Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

16671 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is at 5 Apr 2011 02:03:25 PM
5-April-2011: The local 3G tower in the NSW Central Coast (Lisarow, Ourimbah, Niagra Park Area) the tower is currently down since 6am this morning on and here is the response I received from Vodafone:

Question: Vodafone coverage within Australia

Answer:

Australia:

Vodafone's GSM (2G) network covers up to 94.52%* of the Australian population. Our GPRS (2.5G) network covers 92% of the places you live and work in Australia. 3G available to 94% of the Australian population. Capital cities and larger regional centres operate on UMTS 2100MHz and smaller regional centres on UMTS 900MHz. 3G services are available in Vodafone's 3G areas - compatible device required. In metropolitan and some regional areas, Vodafone's 3G network operates on UMTS 2100Mhz. In smaller regional areas with Vodafone coverage, Vodafone's 3G network operates on UMTS 900Mhz. All 3G 900Mhz devices available from Vodafone are 2100Mhz compatible. However, not all 2100Mhz devices are 900Mhz compatible. Customers with 2100Mhz devices that are not 900Mhz compatible will experience GPRS (or Edge, where available) coverage in 3G 900Mhz areas. Slower speeds can be expected outside Vodafone's Mobile Broadband areas. Individual customer experience may vary - many factors affect access, capacity and speed. See www.vodafone.com.au/coverage for more details.

Important: While the highest standards are applied in preparing coverage maps, 100% mapping accuracy cannot be guaranteed.

Overseas:

When you’re overseas, you can get online access using our GPRS network in over 60 countries, with a growing number of 3G and 3G broadband networks throughout the Asia Pacific and Europe. So next time you go overseas, pack your laptop and device and stay on top of your workload.

Please Note: For the latest coverage information in Australia or overseas, visit: www.vodafone.com.au/coverage.

no reception and delayed voicemails
6 Apr 2011 07:21:28 AM: I hear you about the vodafail voicemail service. I often receive messages 2 and 3 days after they were posted. When I check the date and time the call was made, I recall I had my phone with me for that entire day (and switched on) and did not receive the call (ie phone did not ring).

16667 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is very fail at 5 Apr 2011 11:41:54 AM
Signed up 3 weeks ago (wish i knew about all this beforehand) because of the awesome unlimited plans vodafone has....since then only 1-2 bars of reception if any. cant use the net successfully unless at home on my wifi. My grandfather was dying in his nursing home this last week and i couldnt ring anyone to let them know, had to ask for other peoples phones.....

so....rang vodafone.....they were polite, spoke well and helpful so far.....ive been given 50% off my bill for the next 3 months and have been told to ring back in a week or so if no improvement (apparently the tech team are working on it) and i can arrange to be released from my contract....

so we will see i guess..

Can't unlock my own phone from the network since I did report it stolen 2yrs ago but found the phone again in the house.
Customer service keeps telling me to goto
https://unlock.vodafone.com.au/voila/handsetunlock/self-service.html
then asks me for a phone number that I haven't used for 2yrs and also cannot find my name on the system.

Therefore I have no choice but to throw the phone in the bin

Worst reception.
Waiting on important phone calls. Reception bars are full, but callers can't get through.
Even vodafail tried calling me to sell me on more products, but ended up sending a text saying they couldn't get through.
Impossible trying to get service as well.

16653 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is real bad at 4 Apr 2011 02:40:46 PM
Using a Vodafail Data card in Wynnum 4178. 3G drops out frequently and signal strength varies from hour to hour....maybe it's go something to do with the wind, birds flying past, coulds in the sky....I've been told it's got nothing to do with the Vodafail network.

When 3G drops out 2G simply fails to work what so ever.

I was told by the helpdesk that my antivirus interfered with the signal strength. That might even be believable if I had the card plugged directly into my notebook. I don't - it's plugged into a Netcomm router.

I know there is nothing wrong with the router as I've used it with other 3G services and also via Vodafail in Perth/Sydney in the past.

When are the network upgrades actually due...is there a project rollout plan to review the status of certain areas.
4 May 2011 11:10:58 AM: The bayside and the sunny coast have some of the worst reception rate from my experience! Used to have a 3 mobile broadband card and it worked fine until last year when 3 and vodafone merged. Fail! Same goes for my phone service unfortunately :(

I traveled from Echuca to Port Fairy on the weekend and only had reception at Echuca, St Arnaud, Horsham and Port Fairy. Vodafone can not be defined as a network but a select series of outposts.

As for Sunday a truly utter debacle where the Hospital Switch could not get hold of an on-call specialist to come in for an emergency case. Being on Vodafone and oncall could endanger patients lives.

16642 Someone from TAS thinks vodafone is Mega Fail at 3 Apr 2011 06:39:37 PM
I went from Telstra to Vodafone about 5 or 6 years ago because at the time, they weren't too bad. Needless to say after the last couple of years of crappy service I have now gone back to Telstra. Last year I had quite a complicated pregnancy (and before anyone says about a land line, I live in a rental property which has had all the phone outlets ripped out, currently negotiating with landlords on this one), so a mobile was a must. In the last couple of weeks before my son was born, there were DAYS in a row where I had NO reception whatsoever. A phonecall to vodafone informed me that I lived in an area with no coverage, and never had. I laughed! I had reception not even a week before! I had lived in this area for the whole time I had a vodafone phone, so obviously I just IMAGINED I made all those calls for the last 3 years! Then they basically said because it was pre-paid they didn't give two hoots. There were other problems at the time too, like the multiple text message thing that I have read a lot about on here, and being cut out or not being able to call. I will be sticking with Telstra in future!

I also found out today that i haven't received at least 4 sms's that were sent to me. It sometimes takes hours or even days for me to receive a picture message. Coverage is spotty and unreliable. Several times over the past week I have had no signal at all.

I am sending SMS messages to my wife 8 times per message, including ones I sent 4 hours ago. She has text me, getting nothing. Calls either get engaged tone or congestion message. To top it off, a real estate agent was trying to call me today to get a final offer on my dream home, couldnt get me and guess what?? I got beaten on the house. Damn you Vodafone, I will take this as far as i can. TIO already contacted, your useless service team contacted and I will crush you.

It's my wife's phone (I'm with a different carrier), and its been going on for months, delayed massages, poor coverage, calls dropping out, and now she's in QLD, I need to pick my daughter up from friends, and i've been trying to phone her for a few hours to find out where and what the friends phone number is. Ok so bad planning on my part, I should have had the number and probably could have pre-arranged it - but I didn't think I needed to. Friend is probably trying to call her to with a "where is he?".

Ditching Vodafone later today, contract payout pain, but its not good enough. Aaarrrggghhhh!

Dropped calls, poor battery life, the list goes on. Why am I sticking with them? When I signed up for the contract the vodafail employee messed up, meaning that I get a couple of gigs of data, 300 minutes of phone calls, unlimited texts and an iPhone 4 for $29 per month - I'm not being charged for the handset. Least they could do, given all the network problems I've been having.

16616 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Mobile Broadband at 2 Apr 2011 11:23:45 AM
At the end of February 2010, I went into a vodafone store in the ACT to investigate possible mobile broadband plans. I was assured that where I resided in the ACT had good coverage and so signed a 24 month contract.

The coverage since that date has never been up to scratch, sometimes taking over 40 minutes to download lecture recordings that I require for University. Throughout the second half of 2010 i spent much time on the phone to vodafone (costing me money every single time as I was not offered callback) and in one week alone spent at least 5 hours in the store troubleshooting. My sim was replaced AND the modem, however the bad service continued.

Recently, I went into the store again and spoke customer service on the phone, I was not able to convince them to terminate my contract without waiving the early exit fee despite the fact they have not upheld their side of the bargain.

I was assured coverage would improve in the next three months and was given three months credit on my account (which i was thankful for) and also a network enhancer was to be sent to home within 5-7 days. FOUR WEEKS later and I still have not recieved this network enhancer, even after another trip to the store and a further lengthy telephone call.

This is just part of what I have been through with vodafone and needless to say when I am either released from my contract or finish paying it off I will never go with vodafone again and will ensure that I do my best to ensure everyone knows just how much trouble they have caused and how much money i have wasted on a second rate service.
2 Apr 2011 04:51:55 PM: You shouldn't have to put up with a lack of service while Vodafone keep charging you every month. Fill out a complaint to the TIO (linked to from the how to complain page). They will make sure Vodafone can resolve the problem or let you out of your contract without paying.

16615 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Problem call closed without resolving the issue at 2 Apr 2011 10:47:09 AM
I reported 5 delayed missed-call notifications to Three Customer Support. Three decided to close the problem report without informing me, which I discovered today, when reporting another delayed missed-call notification, the 6th in 2 weeks. I was then informed that the networking team do not work on weekends therefore the soonest today's problem will be investigated will be Monday. If the problem was urgent, forget expecting Three to investigate any problems over the weekend.
Its about time this lack of support is publicized on current affairs programs on TV and radio.

16612 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Insurance at 1 Apr 2011 10:56:23 PM
Apart from the constant disappointments mentioned above, I made an insurance claim some months ago to replace a 6 gig iPhone, as the new model iphone was released at the time of the claim they could not supply one. Three months later I was finally told why it was that they could not supply me with a 6gig phone and asked me to pay extra for the 12 gig phone.I refused and asked for a replacement phone and they told me that the replacement phone would be sent to me with in a week, a flat out lie. Two weeks later I was again waiting on the phone for how many hours I can't remember cut of multiple times and transferred to the wrong people multiple times only to be placed on hold again for hours on end.

Finally I managed to speak to to a floor manager he looked at my file and told me that my claim had not been processed and I would receive a new phone in a week, during the conversation I had my address changed to forward the phone to.

Two weeks later I am on the phone again for hours on end being transferred to the wrong people only to be told that the phone was sent to my previouse address. You would think I am joking but I happened again two weeks later.

The hole time was being charged a monthly bill plus insurance including the premimum for the claim at this time I told the floor manager that I was in the process of launching action with the ombudsman and they had two days to get the phone to me.

For my trouble vodafone gave me three months credit and up graded my phone to a 16gig phone
And removed the insurance premium but could not supply me with an adjusted bill.

Close to six month later I received my replacement phone, I asked them to remove the insurance coverage yet it is still on my bill. My contract is now finished so I tried to cancel the pan to day during my lunch break but I only have an hour on my lunch break and it wasn't enough time to get through I had to go back to work.

Rubbish.

22 Apr 2011 12:49:08 PM: Never having had insurance for any phone, i don't know what is covered. Logic would dictate your bills should be paid under the insurance policy until your insurance provided replacement phone arrives. So I would re-read your insurance policy carefully to fully understand the cover and then call the Insurance Industry Ombudsman if the stated cover was not fully provided. I would also ring the Telephone Industry Ombudsman for failure of your provider to resolve your insurance issue as they were the brokers of that policy and bear some responsibility.

16610 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is As fail as it gets at 1 Apr 2011 09:41:17 PM
I now have NO 3g mobile broadband coverage in my home (in one suburb next to the Adelaide CBD - Bowden) for 2 days now.. And I work from home so this is terrible for me. I call vodafone - they check my coverage in my area and say it should be perfect. Also says full coverage on their web map.

I really feel that I have been trapped into a contact by deceit. I was 20 months through a 24 month contract with Three Mobile with GREAT reception and coverage in Mitcham SA, then I moved closer to the CBD and get terrible coverage. When I called to complain, they said I could switch to Vodafone which I did, assuming I would be on the same contract, and I could cancel if no good. I now find I have been trapped into an additional 12 month contract with Vodafone, with terrible, terrible service..... I have complained with no avail (they just keep raising a ticket, and I never hear back....)

Does anyone have any suggestions?
2 Apr 2011 08:24:01 AM: It seems conversations are one way, appears the TIO is the next step, details found at the top of the page under How To Complain tab.

You will get results with the TIO.

Vodafail.com Moderation Team
3 Apr 2011 08:59:54 AM: I highly doubt they've added 12 months to your contract. It physically can't be done unless you take a new handset. Have it checked out.
30 Apr 2011 09:42:58 PM: Go into a store and ask what it was that they did when you were migrated across to Vodafone and whether you were in fact resigned. No matter what the outcome was, they will be able to reverse it or, they will be able to release you given the amount of trouble tickets that have been raised. There is no point going straight to the TIO without following the correct procedure, as the TIO only deal with reasonable claims that have had sufficient effort put into trying to find a resolution. They will not provide a quick fix.

At work in the middle of our national capital city and I have one bar of 2G reception. Where I am staying in Canberra, I am lucky to have any reception...all of 12kms from the centre of Canberra.

Back at home in Melbourne our (wife and son) other 2 Vodafone handsets have awful reception...10kms out of the city and the calls drop out regularly (all within direct line of sight of a massive tower).

It is rare for a call to not drop out...I haven't mentioned 3G data/internet access - what's the point? It has been so long since I can recall it being useful that I had almost forgotten how useful it can be. 3 x Iphone handsets (3G, 3GS and 4) all rendered useless, courtesy of Vodafone's 2nd rate underwhelming network.

Received the message from the Vodafone Australia CEO...very polite, very positive - talk is cheap and what you are delivering is not acceptable.

I will be cancelling the Vodafone contract for our 3 services...this problem has been going on for at least 12 months and there is no end in sight

I have to count myself lucky here are Vodafone agreed to release myself and my partner from our contracts with no penalty and it only took me a month of calling them! Argh... We had to move back to Telstra and pay extra to get new phones but at least we now have excellent coverage, 3G and our txts don't go missing.
Three months into our brand new iPhone contracts (about October last year) we suddenly dropped from adequate to almost non existent. It took 3 weeks of calling them every couple of days and spending ridiculous amounts of time on hold and being transferred all over the place. They finally conceded that they were at fault. The reason I was given was that they were upgrading their services and that meant some low priority areas lost some signal!!!
I wont ever use Vodafone again.

Calls often fail (say 1 out of 5 at the moment) I have been patiently just putting up with this (perhaps the silent minority these days). When you pay over $180 a month for 2 phone accounts such a basic failure to deliver just basic connectivity has driven me to the point where I think I will just sign up with telstra (who I never thought I would use for mobile given there expense).

I have been struggling to get proper reception when I'm on the Eastern freeway. What if my car breaks down and I can't call for help. I've gor limityeed reception in Doncaster and when I'm in Abbottsford my calls are constantlky dropped. I won't even talk about connecting to Facebook or twitter which is a very ardeous process. I have 4 mobiles with vodaphone (2kids and wife) and cant even use my fre V2V calls, because we struggle so much with reception. I'm not a fan of Telstra, but when i was with them I never had so many issues. I will stick with Vodafone for the time being.

16563 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is bad at 1 Apr 2011 11:22:01 AM
Why is reception so bad along major railway lines? Traveling from Lilydale to Melbourne CBD there's 3G coverage at Lilydale itself, then it cuts in and out for the next 15 minutes, making it useless. Then coverage becomes OK but 3G is still lost at Nunawading (approaching road underpass), Box Hill (arriving in enclosed station) and Hawthorn.

I did find this handy however when I was using a Vodafone GSM/2G phone, every single time it passed Surrey Hills it would lose all coverage, if I ever had anybody annoying on the phone I knew it would lose signal there!!
21 Apr 2011 07:11:17 PM: Every time i arrive are Flinders street station I lose reception and have to reset my phone to get it back. Its the middle of Melbourne's CBD how can i not have access to the mobile network!?!

Watergardens shopping center. Try walking in the BIG W. As soon as you get in 2 meter, poof goes the reception to no service.

Within my home, one side of the kitchen get 1 bar and other side of the kitchen drops the calls!

WTH, WTF!
1 Apr 2011 05:57:41 PM: Tell me about it, was leaving watergardens via the train statIon side and the phone went from about 3 bars to no service out of nowhere and wouldn't change back until after I had gotten home and reset the phone twice. Even now posting this at the southern cross shopping center the phone switches from 1 bar to 'searching' to no service and i've been sitting in the same spot for half an hour!

16559 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Not Good at 1 Apr 2011 11:00:13 AM
Living in outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Have been with 3 for a few years and reception in my area was never great but there was always one or two bars and it would switch to other providers when necessary. Since Vodafone took over, the reception has been much worse and the phone is constantly switching to No Service. I need to turn the phone off and back on to pick up a signal and it no longer switches to another provider when reception is poor or unavailable.
1 Apr 2011 11:24:53 AM: Samething here. My wife had a phone with 3 and even though the reception was bad, it was still ok. Now with VodaFail, shit just hits the fan...
1 Apr 2011 03:21:15 PM: I am also in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne and am experiencing exactly the same problems as you. Since the frigging merger with Voda, my reception is worse, from 3 bars to 0 with a total drop out (without moving the mobile). Also have to turn the mobile off then on to pick up a signal, which it does, then drops off again. And consequently also receive delayed missed-call messages 24 hours later, as others have reported. Whats with this crap service!!!!
11 Apr 2011 04:14:50 PM: I get this exact problem, but I live one block from the Victoria Market (Howard Street)! This never happened when it was just 3 backed up by roaming on Telstra. Fail! If I didn't have the Pennytel app on my iPhone working, then most of the time I would struggle to send a text message while at home.

I'm with 3 which is now using Vodaphone networks I assume and the problem I have is that my phone regularly drops out connection (reception) during any phone call in my house(In Glen Waverley which is only <20km from the CBD) and at other various locations around Melbourne. Not only is this the case with reception, the internet connection is horrid. Even on full reception in the city my phone still loads pages very slowly if at all. I have a HTC Desire with the recent 2.2 Froyo upgrade. I hope that this message can be passed on in unison with the thousands of other complaints and something can be done and most of us are locked on contracts with this third class network.

Been using Crazy John/Vodafone for over 2 years now with 4 different handsets and have had constant lousy reception, reception black spots, constant drop outs, slow web speeds, rarely able to get a 3G connection/2G connection, scrambled calls with lots of interference.

Logged a call with Crazy Johns, apparently the call was forwarded onto the Network Engineer team. No improvement since then.

16554 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Its the 'Charlie Sheen Winning' of all fails. at 1 Apr 2011 10:37:41 AM
(1) Cant seem to connect for about 70% of the time I try to call. There's no ring tone, I hear an awkward silence and then an abrubt disconnection. I was for a couple of months, immediately trying to redial and call again until I noticed in my bill that I was being charged a connection fee and an average 6 seconds of talk time (cleverly billed in 30 second blocks) for each of these failed connections. Thats around 60c per vodafail. I could tell it was for the failed connections as I found repeated instances in my bill where I had dialled the same number 4 or 5 times in a 20 second period each call for around 6 seconds. When I spoke to the guy in the Vodafone shop he told me that I shouldnt worry as even with these incurred costs I was no where near my cap. The fact that the reason I was no where near my cap was because I could never actually connect to anyone I was trying to call seemed lost on him.
(2) Cant get SMS's out. I keep getting a fail message and asking me to re-send. I also dont get new text messages unless someone calls me or miraculously I manage to get through to someone (this seems to wake up the network in regards to my phone).
(3) In the middle of Canberra's CBD I cant get bars....repeatedly.
(4) In remedying this Vodafone both in the stores and on the phone ask me to do really techincal things like .....wipe my sim card, or blow on it. Have had the sim replaced and still no joy.

Am now thinking of contacting the ombudsman.

Any thoughts?

I've been a customer for 5 years and over the last 6-8 months noticed calls dropping out frequently (evry second or third call) or not connecting at all. I contacted Voda to find out how much I had to pay out my contract to leave them and join another carrier and I dealt with 'very helpful' (or worried) staff and I was offered 3 months worth of free bills (the cap). I was told that they are working on the problem and to 'see' that the coverage issues will be improved. We'll see...

16547 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Vodafone sent my phone to the wrong address and insisited I pick it up from there, it took 2 months to get a replacement! at 1 Apr 2011 09:54:10 AM
I went on a contract, Voda sent me a faulty handset, I ordered a replacement handset from Voda & they sent it to the wrong address! For two months they insisted that it was the right address and air express got it wrong; after receiving the order from air express it was evident Voda got it wrong (Vodafone still to this date imply that I gave them the wrong address, because I don't know where I live...). Anyway, they told me to pick it up from this wrong address, as they didn't want to incur additional costs in fixing their screw up. In the end, after making a big enough noise (and 5 hours on the phone) they agreed to send a new handset & would recall the one sent to the wrong address. The handset I got was also faulty, DOA to be exact... (HTC Desire HD).

After all the issues with dropped calls on the network as well as never working data, I decided to can Vodafone and go with Telstra :)
1 Apr 2011 03:49:54 PM: it sounds like when i re-signed my contract with voda and got a new phone the girl used my debit card medicare card and license for I.D. and then went on to give vodafone my debit card details. But of course their workers wouldnt do that i MUST have given them the details and authorized the direct debit?? To which i replied "if i gave it to her why would i be ringing you saying i didnt??" in the end i got a refund of what they took from my account and got to add this to my TIO complaint which helped my case.

After experiencing terribly poor data load time for several months I decided to do a speed test from speedtest.net to measure my data speed. While all around me were recording scores between 2 and 5 MBps, my iPhone 4 with Vodafail scored an amazing 0.1MBps. All the while it tells me I have 3G and full reception bars.
I travel a lot for work and need my 3G. I can't check emails, log in to work and I can't keep up to date with friends when work finishes and I have hours in the airport to wait.
Of course, tethering no longer works because I have no reception.
So I am left with no internet on my phone or laptop while frequently on the road.

Really disappointed with Vodaphone and will definetly never be using them again. Is there any grounds in the contract for termination on the basis that the service they provide is inadequate and not what they advertised and promoted it to be? I expect not...

Have provided them of 5 examples - they require more!!! In addition, my reception fluctuates from 0 to 5 bars, calls drop off, can't receive calls (hence the delayed missed-call notifications) and Three DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING other than call requesting MORE information, which is a delaying tactic in my view!!

have been with vodafone since 2000. didn't have many issues until mid 2010 (which coincidentally seems to be when they took the reigns from 3). i get voicemail alerts from calls that i didn't receive the day before, delayed messages. was at the multicultural festival in the city and had no reception anywhere apart from a small area behind the canberra centre. internet coverage is extremely slow.

a few weeks back i got a letter from them appologising for the awful standard of service and how the problem had now been fixed. a few days later i get the same problems with long delays in receiving messages.

add to this trying to cancel my mobile broadband with three (now owned by vodafone) after stating that the service was slower than dial up during peak times the gimp on the other end of the line kept trying to give me special offers like creditting my account with $5 each month for three months like that would help. after 15 mins on the phone he finally said he would cancel it. after i got what was meant to be my final bill i kept getting monthly bills for a few months and had to keep calling them to get the account cancelled. it wasn't until i called, gave them my account number and said "i don't care what you do as long as you put a note on that file saying i had complained to the ombusman's office". screw you vodafone and three, and the crap service you provide. my current contract is almost up and i will be going to another provider when that happens.

I called Vodafone Customer Service when I could not log into internet only to be told after been on hold 30 minutes they had extended the expiry date of my broadband service. I asked when the problem would be resolved only to be told there is no ETA. I asked instead of an extension to provide a service I have paid for. Not impressed. Whether Im prepay or contract, Im paying for a service that is simply not working. Why should I have to swap to another provider simply to get coverage. Relatively happy Vodafone customer in Gold Coast / Brissy for the last 13 years.
Noticed coverage was really going down hill in the last 7 or so months in my office and home location in Bris.. ( all of a sudden I would drop calls in a lift that worked for 4 years!? ) Hadn't done anything about it.

Spending $150 per month, I went OS, had started a new business & on return had missed paying the bill for 3 months. Bad I know!!
I used to get an SMS reminder to pay the bill -- and that was what I worked off.
All of a sudden they weren't doing these?
In the Brisbane airport at 4pm on a Tuesday I get a call advising there is $800 outstanding ( 3 months + global roaming ). I apoligised and told them I would fix it up after I check in to my accom in Launceston in 3.5 hours.

That wasn't good enough, barring activated, pain in the butt to get going again.

Nice service guys.

NSW Eastern Suburbs, North Sydney, 3G experience is modern day torture.

I have been using Vodafone for 5 months now, and I can say there has not been A SINGLE DAY where I have got adequate 3G Data service. I live in Waverley 2024, work in North Ryde 2113 and both locations are densely populated, suburban or business AND both locations are in open hilltop areas.

Luckily I'm not in contract and switched to TPG Mobile 1 day before they were announced in Choice Awards. Given they use the Optus Network, I have no doubt I will have a lot less frustrating times.

Vodafone overcharge, overadvertise and underdeliver and they only reason I've posted this comment is in the hope that it deters just one person from making the mistake of using this 'worse than third world' service, and assists in provoking Vodafone to give a damn and do something real.

Get real... leave Vodafake.

I have called and complained countless times about the lack of reception in my home in Northcote Victoria, Being that i live in a densely populated region of metropolitan Melbourne you would suspect that my reception would be far more superior to a regional outlet, however i recently visited Rockhampton in Queensland, and even though my reception and data usage was extremely limited, i found my reception to be much better than that of my reception at home in Victoria.

I have not only called and called back countless times after several drop outs, I have attended various Vodafone retail centres to enquire about a resolution to my problem, always met with a different excuse.

To take a call at home i must step out onto my balcony and lean over railing.

FML!
1 Apr 2011 07:59:11 AM: Careful leaning over the railing! A better solution would be to contact the TIO straight away, you can find out their number on the 'How to complain' page. Vodafone usually springs into action when the TIO is chasing up your complaint.

In the last two weeks I have received (and reported) 5 delayed missed call notifications well over 24 hours to Three support. Delayed messages have only occurred since Vodafone and Three merged (into VHA). Three support claim they do not retain any networking logs to investigate delayed notifications if they are reported later than 24 hours which I do not believe. If I was a criminal they'd certainly be able to retrieve ANY messages (and calls) that I have made or received. My business has been affected due to the frequent delayed missed-call notifications and I will take the matter up with the Telecommunications Ombudsman.

16500 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Consistently billed incorrect amount for internet service. at 1 Apr 2011 01:06:35 AM
I am getting rid of Vodafone this month after 2 years of pain. (HIGH FIVES ALL ROUND) All I can say is that from the very first month I was billed incorrectly for my $39.00 monthly plan. The situation became ridiculous when I went overseas for 6 seeks and they sent me a $290.00 dollar bill for the month I didn't even use the service at all. I am on an 8Gb monthly plan and I should pay $20 every GB I go over that amount. Last months bill states that I used 9Gb and therefore I am being charged for $230.00. This means that I am being charged $191.00 for the additional 1 Gb. When I called vodafone to complain I was advised that the additional charges are because I receive a paper bill in the mail. I explained that the paper bill is an additional fee of only $4.00 but the Indian guy kept repeating to me that the maths where correct and I have been charged correctly. But this is just one of the many tales of woe I have been through with this hopeless company. At one stage last year they told me I owed them $1600.00 for 3 months use. But what really pissed me off is that in the past 2 years I would say I have spent overall 80-90 hours trying to resolve these issues - Thats more than 2 working weeks of my life wasted that I will not get back. And I don't even want to go into the stories about my coverage for both internet and mobile phones. So my advise is don't even bother calling their call centre if you have any issues. Call the ombudsman and then someone from the Vodafone NZ call centre will call you back and wipe away all your bullshit fees. Also please tell all you friends to stay the hell away from this company as you will end up with third world service in every way. In conclusion I would just like to say "GO TO HELL VODAFONE, YOU PISSED ME OFF FOR 2 YEARS YOU ROTTEN BASTARDS BUT NOW I AM FREEEEEEEEEE".

I went from 3 to vodafone as it had free vodafone to vodafone and I got an iPhone 4.
I was blamingbthe phone for crap coverage and was even going to get new phone..... Deeply sorry Apple, you rock, love the technology .... Keep it happening . Now as far as vodafone, enough said on this forum, nearly everyone shares my pain about the lack of Internet coverage/ phone coverage. Damn annoying and scary, just wonder if I were in a life threatening situation, sure Telstra would come good, vodafone is crap, cannot wait to get out of contract....

Living in the city you would assume that network coverage would be no issue.. clearly it is. To preven my calls from dropping out i'm forced to walk upstairs to my nighbours apartment and talk on their front door step. I know Perth is the most isolated city in the world and all... but seriously get your shit sorted Vodafone!

16487 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is going downhill at 31 Mar 2011 09:48:09 PM
To everyone.

I worked for this company pre and post Hutch merger. I can tell you that both internally and externally things have gone down hill fast. Dews and his team have completely ruined the internal culture of Vodafone and all they seem to care about is making a profit at the expense of their staff and customers.

I can tell you right now that the network upgrade is happening but at a snail's pace. It will be at least 18 months before things are even close to being stabilised and even then the speed of the network will pale in comparison to the other networks.

Yes I am a disgruntled ex-employee, I am devastated at seeing a company I loved and worked hard for (10 years) be ruined all because the (ex-3/hutch) senior exec team are no longer focused on the customer or it's people.

To all reading this, things will not get better for a long time, get out now and please don't take any excuses from the off shore call centre, go to the TIO.

Terrible reception regardless of where I am, with or without interference. The internet keeps dropping off too that often it won't sync my eemail until I get home where I have wifi. I'm basically paying a monthly bill for nothing.

16483 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is response to the letter from the CEO of Vodafone. at 31 Mar 2011 06:41:52 PM
Dear Nigel,

I hope you don't mind me calling you Nigel, but seeing as you addressed me by my Christian name, I thought I'd pay you the same discourtesy. I'm sure we have never met personally. But then, Vodafone has always had a somewhat cavalier attitude to customer service, and not only in my experience. The letter of apology (3/3/2011) you sent to me and thousands of other customers was a kind of hilarious insult, and I think even the type of people that subscribe to bestiality websites collectively scoffed at your vapid excuses. I'd have thought it was a risky career move to apologise to your customers in the Telco business, seeing as it's an admission of guilt, which for my money makes you liable to compensate people for legitimate grievances-but that's an unpleasant topic to bring up at this fledgling stage, so we'll come back to that, but for now, I'll say this: apologies don't put dollars back in our pockets, Nigel. If you really wanted to apologise by 'snail-mail,' (which is apparently faster than your connection to 3G) you would have to bulldoze about 500 000 hectares of Tasmanian old growth if you wanted to be comprehensive about it. You say, in the second paragraph of the introduction, that you 'aim to provide our customers with an excellent customer experience and the best possible value, but recently our network and customer service performance, particularly in December and January, fell well below the standards we set for ourselves.' Fuck me, Nigel. That statement alone starts my mind spinning like a one-armed bandit. There's so many goddamn dirty questions (or confirmations of my suspicions) that you've thrown up for all to see that I don't know where to begin. I'll get to most of them in due course though. Pour yourself a Scotch.

Firstly, if the network coverage and customer service had only fallen below par in the months you mentioned, I might not be writing this note, but the fact is the service - both network and customer - has always been an abomination in the face of value for money and basic, honest, human decency and conduct. Secondly, I was amazed to discover that you have standards that you set for yourselves. What, pray tell, might these 'standards' be? It strikes me as standard practise in the Telco industry to yank customers around by their contracts like a choke chain without ever revealing what kind of obligations the service provider has to them, the paying customers. Let me stress that: PAYING CUSTOMER. That's right, old son, you work for me, for all intents and purposes or at least, that's what you should be doing. But all you do is take my money while alleging that you are providing me with something in return. In shabby reality, you're not. I am routinely overcharged for a service that I cannot even use in my own home or suburb. And it's patchy at best throughout the region. You might think we're a bunch of parochial morons out here in the sticks, but cellular technology has been available to us for at least ten years, believe it or not. Word is we'll even be getting the internet soon. Does Vodafone offer internet connections? I'm thinking of getting 56K dial-up. I don't have a landline yet, but I'll get one, because I'll be damned if I'm going to put up with your bullshit any longer.

Yes, a landline. I guess that way if I have to call the police or any other kind of emergency service, the phone connection is less likely to DROP OUT like it does when I use my mobile phone to call them I hate to have to sue you over some grievous, long term injury that I could sustain on my property. Did I mention that I'm a young woman living alone in a relatively isolated area? Yeah, that's right, I live a whole twenty minutes north of the largest regional centre in the Illawarra, and about twenty minutes south of a phone tower at Maddens Plains. In fact, I believe there is a phone tower in Thirroul, which is five minutes away from me. It's built between an Anglican church and a primary school, though the primary school is for Catholics so, I wonder why I can't call a friend on a lonely night, let alone the police or an ambulance? To the best of my knowledge, emergency services are not equipped to receive Morse code, or read smoke signals, which is about all I have at my disposal if something terrible happened. That was the first lie one of your sales reps told me - that Vodafone has 98% network coverage in Australia. Evidently, while the girl in the shop looked me in my good eye and said that, she neglected to mention that the 2% not covered includes a good deal of the Illawarra. Seeing as this was happening at a store in Wollongong, I don't see any excuse for it whatsoever, though I understand that honesty is not the best policy when you're in the snake-oil business. This brings me to a proposition - no - directive that I have for you:

Seeing as you were foolish enough to admit what a monumental balls-up your engineer gimps and sullen service reps made of December and January, I think it's only fair to expect some kind of compensation. I wonder if you would feel the same? It strikes me that you probably didn't become a CEO by lying down like a smack-whore on the nod and getting fucked by every ruthless exploiter that stepped over your body. Well, I don't intend to let that happen to me, so if you've got a problem with this strong suggestion, try and put yourself in my shoes. I bet you can. You don't get to be the boss just because you've got a smooth complexion or do you? Anyway, how's this? You pay me back the two bills I paid during December and January. By the way, nice timing on your Egyptian-style destruction of the communications system, dude. Right smack bang on the summer holidays. So - the bills amount to $84.89 (Dec) and $81.00 (Jan). If I hadn't somehow mysteriously exceeded my cap ($79), which always seems to happen, the sum total would be $158 for the pair, but seeing as your corrupt and/or terminally stupid Nazi debt-collector types like to overcharge me, it amounts to $165.89. There was no way for me to investigate this apparent skimming, because I have a couple of things going on in my life. Like commuting, working and sleeping. Having been on the phone to Vodafone for eight hours (total) one day, I don't feel particularly inspired to deal with your maniacal rhetoric on a monthly basis over a couple of dollars. But goddamn it, you know you take your cut well as I do, and I think that's a lousy way to make money. It's for bums. You grift people who give you their bank details like idiot tourists buying imitation Rolexes in third world countries. You're nothing but a bunch of hawkers, con-men and scabs. Your marketing department is run by pimps. The whole operation appears to be based - almost completely - on deceit and subterfuge. It's as if your organisation is run by an army of street thugs, and the call-centre workers are on the front line but I'm not saying the others are any better. I don't want you to feel singled out here, Nigel, but as the CEO, I would imagine you should be held responsible for the conduct of a major corporate entity whose moral compass has apparently been hurled into a snowdrift in the Arctic Circle.

Anyway, a few more stipulations regarding the money I am invoicing you for. I would, obviously, like to be released from this 'contract' I'm allegedly bound to. Seeing as you don't appear to take the contract seriously, I don't see why I should. When you show me your policies, codes of conduct etc, (which I was told were internal documents' when I asked to see them) I might entertain the idea that this contract' is in any way legally binding. You want to hope it is, because it's sure as hell not based on good will, is it? Telcos in this country have been getting away with treating people like shit and charging them for it for years. That is not going to happen to me anymore. So, I'll take the $165.89 - every cent, thanks - and be released from the contract without severance fees or string attachments of any kind. That deal goes a damnsight further than fair, Nigel, and you know it. We're talking about real money here, not that Monopoly-fantasy-call credit horseshit you use to dupe the rubes out of their shiny pennies. And I know that $165.89 ain't much to either of us, really, but I'm asking for it because it's money you admitted you don't deserve. Billing cycle begins on the first of the month. Failure to pay within the first 12 days of the new month will result in a $25 penalty fee!. If you are indeed 'working as hard and fast as [you] can to show [the customer] the changes and improvements [Vodafone is] making,' I want to see the evidence. In the form of cash, old mate. Money talks a hell of a lot louder than second-rate apologies beefed-up with pointless technical details. I hope I'm not being presumptuous, but I'm sure you are aware of this.

Explanations don't come easy in your business, do they? It was easier to get an apology out of you than it is to contend with the unmitigated stream of bullshit that I get from both automatons and humans that man your call-centres, which I imagine resemble some kind of third world sweatshop. Believe it or not, I am a professional - a civil servant, no less - and that is how I am able to pay these inexplicably inflated bills you keep hitting me with. Unfortunately, it also means that after a day of dealing with the disabled that I do not have the patience or inclination to deal with your half-bright service reps when I get home. Not that I can call you from my home, because, as I may have mentioned earlier MY PHONE DOES NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT NETWORK COVERAGE. I hope I'm being plain enough for you to follow me here, Nigel- in fact, it's quite pleasant writing to you, because I haven't been transferred to five different trainee phone monkeys who are pretending that the manager is out to lunch. I suppose you have a harem of PAs to screen your mail, but I pray to the heathen gods one of them hates you enough to pass this letter on to you.

Yours Sincerely,

Ms (SURNAME REMOVED)

27 Apr 2011 02:07:29 PM: Has there been any reply to this yet?!
30 Apr 2011 10:42:27 PM: Good luck in suing for compensation based on the fact that you had injured yourself on your property and could not contact emergency services because you had poor mobile services. The fact that you have acknowledged this means it was forseeable, so unless you do whatever is reasonable to overcome this i.e. find a more reliable service suited for 'the sticks' such as telstra (you know, the service renowned for great regional coverage') then you have contributed to your own ill fortunes. I would think the fact that the CEO admitted to and apologised for faults in the service shows courage. You didn't see Optus apologise when they signed up too many users for their network capability.
They simply denied it and hoped no one noticed in the time it took them to install more towers and upgrade their network, for which, like Vodafone, they are constantly still doing.
2 May 2011 02:09:25 PM: That was fantastic. But who is this TWAT above me. Do they work for Telstra?
I have noticed a LOT of pro telstra comments on the site. Is this why they charge like a wounded bull, because that have TWAT monkeys running around commenting on forums against thier competitors?
3 May 2011 08:44:46 PM: Dear 30 Apr 2011 10:42:27 PM,

If that's your idea of courage, I'd hate to see your idea of business sense.

- Ms.
16 May 2011 12:12:57 PM: If everyone goes to Telstra They will have a monopoly AGAIN!!!
Vonaphone Prepaid thank Goodness!!
20 Jul 2011 05:30:11 PM: Pure genius!!!!! Will you marry me?
31 Jul 2011 08:03:33 PM: F*cking awesome!
3 Aug 2011 06:35:26 PM: Bit off-topic, but thought I would mention: it's my understanding that you can dial emergency services (000) from any provider and it will be routed through, so long as their is a tower in your area to pick up the signal. So, this means if you have a handset on Vodafone, if there is a compatible Telstra tower in the area, it will accept the call. Don't take my word for it though... I don't like the idea of getting sued! Or, more importantly people dying because of my assumptions. :P
13 Sep 2011 07:36:50 PM: You can always call 000 as long as there's a tower to pick up the signal, no matter what network, even if the mobile doesn't have a SIM card in it. I worked in the 000 call centre: if there's no SIM card in the phone, the call just comes through as usual except without any address information.
4 Jan 2012 11:11:59 AM: That was an awesome read..Someone should make sure VF and the ACMA get that one...I had to print that out...it was totally inspiring....

just like everyone else I have poor reception especially when I am trying to use the web. What's the point of getting 500MB data every mth when I cant even use it? The issue has been ongoing for over 6 mths now and no fix seems to be in place. The only reason why I am still with Voda is because I have been with you for almost 7 years and had no problem it until this issue came up. I hope this feedback will be taken on board

16474 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Badly failing at 30 Mar 2011 05:15:58 PM
Access to network services (Data and Telephony) has been very bad since Saturday, 26th March, 2011. I've experienced drop outs on calls, no SMS connections at times, and very very bad data transfer rates throughout the day. Only during early morning hours data connections seem to be reliable and fast enough. I have experienced this at home so it's not a question of moving to a black spot or less-covered area.
A radius of only 5 km from Perth CBD. I find this unacceptable.
Thanks

I work in North Sydney and I don't get 3G most of the time, and when I do is slower than my dial up back home in Peru in 1998. Moreover, not only the data network is defective but also the mobile network (voice calls). My wife calls me during the day and most of the time it goes straight to voicemail. I tried calling myself and it only goes through after 3-6 attempts.
How crap is Vodafone? its absolute R.U.B.I.S.H.

I joined Vodafone from a recepected leco because they had the phone that I liked. The only problem is the phone has never worked as Vodas reception is awefull. I complained and complained and complained and nothing happened. So I stopped paying my bills and have unlocked my phone and use another sim in there now. I called vodafone and told them I was to cancell my contract and was told it will be 1500 dollars. After two hours on the phone the indian bloke said pay your bill or pay the exit fee either way i dont care.

16466 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is An old complaint letter- at 29 Mar 2011 11:27:11 PM
Dear Cretins,
I have been an customer since 9th July 2010, when I signed up for your 24 month with phone and data deal. During this nine-month period I have encountered inadequacy of service which I had not previously considered possible, as well as ignorance and stupidity of monolithic proportions. Please allow me to provide specific details, so that you can either pursue your professional perogative, and seek to rectify these difficulties - or more likely (I suspect) so that you can have some entertaining reading material
My network connection stopped without warning, resulting in my spending an entire Saturday sitting on my fat a**e waiting for your operator to work out what I was calling about
I spent a further 257 minutes listening to your infuriating hold music, and the even more annoying robot woman telling me to look at your helpful website I alleviated the boredom by playing with my t..ticles for a few minutes - an activity at which you are no-doubt both familiar and highly adept.. I have made 9 calls on my mobile to your no-help line, and have been unhelpfully transferred to variety of disinterested individuals, who are it seems also highly skilled bollock jugglers
I have been informed that the network is available (and someone will call me back); that no network info is available (and someone will call me back); that I will be transferred to someone who knows whether or not a network available (and then been cut off); that I will be transferred to someone (and then been redirected to an answer machine informing me that your office is closed); that I will be transferred to someone and then been redirected to the irritating robot woman...and several other variations on this theme.
Doubtless you are no longer reading this letter, as you have at least a thousand other dissatisfied customers to ignore, and also another one of those crucially important t..ticle-moments to attend to. Frankly I don't care, it's far more satisfying as a customer to voice my frustration's in print than to shout them at your unending hold music.
Forgive me, therefore, if I continue. I thought T were s.it, that they had attained the holy piss-pot of godawful customer relations, that no-one, anywhere, ever, could be more disinterested, less helpful or more obstructive to delivering service to their customers. That's why I chose Voda, and because, well, there isn't anyone else is there? How surprised I therefore was, when I discovered to my considerable dissatisfaction and disappointment what a useless shower of b**tards you truly are. You are sputum-filled pieces of incompetents of the highest order. Telecom - w..nkers though they are - shine like brilliant beacons of success, in the filthy puss-filled mire of your seemingly limitless inadequacy. Suffice to say that I have now given up on my futile and foolhardy quest to receive any kind of service from you. I suggest that you cease any potential future attempts to extort payment from me for the services which you have so pointedly and catastrophically failed to deliver - any such activity will be greeted initially with hilarity and disbelief quickly be replaced by derision, and even perhaps bemused rage. I enclose two small deposits, selected with great care from my cats litter tray, as an expression of my utter and complete contempt for both you and your pointless company. I sincerely hope that they have not become desiccated during transit - they were satisfyingly moist at the time of posting, and I would feel considerable disappointment if you did not experience both their rich aroma and delicate texture. Consider them the very embodiment of my feelings, and its worthless employees. Have a nice day -, you irritatingly incompetent and infuriatingly unhelpful bunch of *****. John

Hey just checking I am not alone
Who has phoned Vodafone about no network connection only to be told that it must be your handset that is the problem and not Vodafone?
Do you find Vodafone operators are slow and difficult?
Have you heard the line that Vodafone is "upgrading the network"?
Do you find that customer service looks to customer faults and not Vodafone faults?
Do you find that compliants logged online are responded to an email with "solved" when nothing is solved at all.
