Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

10672 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is They got problems! at 5 Jan 2011 03:05:03 PM
I was on hold today (around 3pm Brisbane time) trying to sort out a network issue with a lovely Bumbai staff member when the call dropped out. I then received the following text messages from Voda.
First..."We're sorry (my name) but the call just got disconnected. You do not have to ring us back. We'll call you at the soonest possible.

Second...We are currently having an issue making outgoing calls. As soon as that fixes we'll ring you back either today or tomorrow. We'll try our best to call today. VF

Gotta love it, as the issue of calls dropping out is what i was calling about and they are having the same issue as well....

Some please help them.... to help me!!

10670 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Phone is a brick at 5 Jan 2011 03:02:08 PM
I had network issues in my old house and I lived on the fourth level apartment with good open windows and didn't have any network, but I didn't realize until I moved to another suburb and the network issues became even worse. I left Virgin 30$ per month plan for iPhone and now I'm stuck with a brick. Absolutely no data access and I would be lucky if I get two bars of network. No network at my work even. Phone only works when I am outside. I just want to get out of the contract now asap, wasting my money with vodafail. Whoever asks me I just tell them not to switch to any provider using the vodafone network.

My voicemails never come through until days later. I have no reception in my house and people are constantly telling me my phone is switched off. I have tried calling vodafone only to be put on hold for so long I decide to hang up. I am contantly on the phone and my calls drop out.
I have also been charged excessive amounts for overseas data which I think is ridiculous.
I want to get out of contract and change to Optus or Telstra. I am over it!

I never have any phone recpetion in my house. Vodafone clearly stated that the 3g reception was good. as i work from home my mobile is a nessecity, after 10 seconds it drops out and so i have to swtich it network over to 2g. now im stuck with this crap company for 2 years and dont understand what the call centers are saying to me with their basic knowledge of english. the best is when i go to check my cap usage and i get some stupid sms saying the system is experiencing technical difficulties and the 3g is so slow and the whole situation is frustrating and no employee at the vodafone stores will help you.

10666 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is FAIL at 5 Jan 2011 03:00:32 PM
I've been with vodafone for over 3 years. Recently the reception has become worse than ever, taking between 1-2 minutes to actually connect a call every time, if it ends up connecting at all. Sometimes I have to try 4-5 times before it goes through. I usually resort to hanging up and calling from my home or office phone because I can't be bothered waiting for it to connect, if it ever does. It's a little scary if there was an emergency and I actually needed to use it!

I barely have reception in my office which is not at all rural. Depending on the day my 3G coverage varies massively, somtimes doesn't work at all. Voicemails sometimes take days to come through. It kills me to pay $100 a month for a service that barely works. The useless website doesn't help either, with pages taking forever to load or not being able to be processed.

The worst part was when I had my phone off for a week, turned it back on, and no messages came through. I knew that I had received some, waited a day, still nothing. Called vodafone and was told that "sometimes they just get lost, they don't know why, they might come through eventually" and there was nothing they could do. Tried to get at least 25% off of my monthly bill as they weren't providing any service to me for a week, nor providing me with texts or voicemails I received during that week. Had to speak to the manager and ended up getting $10% off, never got the messages...

10660 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is at 5 Jan 2011 02:39:27 PM
I've been with Vodafone since 1998...

My iPhone reception is pretty crap... I have to wait around 30sec for it to actually start calling the number... And normaly I have to restart to just get a signal.

But the worst customer service was when my mobile broadband account was up for renewal. The 'customer service' (used lightly) person upgraded me to a better mobile broadband deal if I signed an extension to my contract. I did, and found the next month I received two bills for two separate mobile broadband plans... When I rang to question this, they asked for which account was I wanting to discuss... to my knowledge I had only ever had the one.

They never cancelled the old account.

When I had to explain what had happened (as they had no record)... They then told me I would incur a disconnection fee for the old account.

After I threatened to leave Vodafone for my internet and terrible mobile phone account they decided it best to wave the fee...

how nice of them.

10658 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is an expert at misleading and deceptive conduct at 5 Jan 2011 02:37:24 PM
After being told by VODAFONE that hand held coverage was available in a Central West NSW town I was relocating to and then to be stuck with a mobile plan for 12 months with no coverage in that town, it caused plenty of grief. The other surprise and disappointment was just how little power the ombudsman really has over these wayward telcos in resolving issues.

I just spend 2.5 hours on the phone with customer service to complain about my lack of coverage. I get no coverage at work, none at home and none in various other places I frequent. My calls drop out or fail etc.
It would seem they are going to conduct quite a thorough investigation... perhaps I will have a gain... but i won't hold my breath!

10653 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Bigtime Fail - worse if overseas at 5 Jan 2011 02:31:04 PM
Other than the lack of reception over recent months the worst was when I was overseas and I lost my phone and needed to deactivate my sim card. It was a nightmare in terms of cost as I was being put on hold at international rates for up to an hour and then the phone would just cut off - this happened on three separate attempts - arrgggh!!!! Vodafone - get please get your act together your service has gone downhill bigtime.

10651 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is The worst!! at 5 Jan 2011 02:27:22 PM
I live only 10 minutes from the city but reception is terrible. I don't remember the last time I was able to have a conversation on my mobile without it dropping out. The last week has been the most frustrating of all, my partner is overseas and gets my voice mail EVERY time he calls.

I also don't usually receive MMS until days later (if at all), not so great when we are having a conversation about something and I get the picture a few days too late!

I have also been asked by so many people why I have not responded to their texts.... Well the answer is easy, I never received them. Vodafail indeed!

Six weeks and my contract is up, if I even hold out that long! Only wish my internet was the same, still another year of pain.

Not just me, but everyone in my building was affected. Not to mention shocking 3g disconnections all the time at my place of residence.

vodafail has progressively got worse. the service was quite good when i joined a couple of years ago however now calls regularly drop out, i miss calls while driving through blackspots that exist all over Darwin (especially around the airport), i get 1 bar in my bedroom and fluctuating 1-3 bars elsewhere in my city unit. accessing the internet from my mobile is just as bad. I also have a wifi dongle that worked for about the first month but then became sporadic in reception - often no reception at night and could only log in early morning - and then dropping out in the middle of using the internet - til i gave up using it mid-year. i have used the dongle interstate with moderate success (however reception in perth CBD where i stayed in november was very sketchy). picture sms - forget it - they either come through early morning (think 1 or 2 am) or not at all. unless the service improves dramatically i will not be renewing with vodafail.

10637 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Very fail at 5 Jan 2011 02:03:08 PM
When I make a phone call, after 3 - 4 minutes the call disconnects, I phone the person back and then its fine. However I make alot of calls during the day so having it cut out on me initially on all the calls is very frustrating.

Also, the service is poor. Sometimes I cant even get reception and I am supposed to be in a 3G network area according to Vodafone.

For a week we had no service at all. It was reported to them and was eventually fixed, however I lost a lot of business during this time, where is my compensation?

My contact expires in August, and I am on a $114 p.m plan with an iphone, however I would like to pay it out, but vodafone wont let me, I phone up to get the payout figure then they ramble on with some other information that isnt applicable so they are making it difficult to exit the contract.

I hate Telstra too as they are rip offs, but what am I to do.

I signed a contract with vods 2 years ago - first phone had to be replaced after 3 weeks then again after 18 months. calls were dropping out and most of the time I had no service. They told me it was because I had an iron roof!!
Tried another phone with my sim and then I got better service. Comaplained to vods and got a new phone and an internet usb connection. Had these for 6 months now and can NEVER maintain any internet connection. They told me I had to connect to their slower network as 3G wouldn't work for me. Its been 3 months since I used them and I now have a telstra prepaid and my contract continues. I have spent in total over 17 hours of calls trying to get my coverage foxed and i give up. Never ever again!!!! I will pay the extra.

I live in the inner suburbs of Sydney and found I had no Vodafail coverage inside my house , not a unit a house without highrise around.
Secondly they didnt even have 2g coverage in Warrnambool Victoria which is a town of 30 000 people ... they said it was an extended network which never worked as a result... poor performance...
Thirdly when i called to request the matter to be looked into they found no cause and asked what can they do to keep me as a customer, flat out laughing I said
" nothing mate nothing will make me sign a new contract with Vodafail as Coverage is not there , hour wait time to chat to Voda , and endless call dropouts ... mate I am finding a new service provider"
Left him speechless
Thanks for the vent and hope we all make a change ...

10630 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Very much at 5 Jan 2011 01:49:50 PM
I recently purchased the HTC Desire HD, and it was recommended that I port my number over to Vodafone from 3 because according to the customer service representative, 3 is being phased out. I thought fine, same company right? But now I feel nothing but regret. I have NO reception at my desk at work (where my phone is my everything), sometimes get texts weeks after they've been sent and I'm constantly struggling to find any 3G service in Sydney. When you've got a phone with the capabilities that mine has, it causes huge frustration. As well as this, I struggle to get any help via customer service if I have a problem (this is after being on hold for 45 minutes of course) - currently, I paid my first bill 3 weeks ago but am still receiving notifications that I owe Vodafone money. I'm only two months into my contract but am seriously considering paying it out and switching companies.

After being with Optus for several years our company was convinced to switch over to Vodafone in Feb last year. The service was poor - lack of coverage in suburban areas and frequent dropouts. We lost business and it caused so much stress to our Managing Director that in March he had a heart attack and was hospitalised! We are now back with Optus. We continue to receive calls from Vodafone's call centre asking for us to change. Needless to say we decline.
6 Jan 2011 07:58:44 AM: By the way we contacted the TIO about our issues and they were extremely helpful. It's a pain to go through the process, but worth the effort.

I live within 6 K's of the Brisbane CBD and either my house is wrapped in lead sheeting or VF network coverage is not quite what they say it is... After two iPhones nothing has changed, any wonder their plans are so cheap, I guess I'll have to go back to Telstra if I want to send texts, make calls or surf the net...

Maybe we should only pay part of our plans, just like VF are only providing part of what they promise (in their contract)...

10625 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is :@ at 5 Jan 2011 01:36:22 PM
I have a USB internet plan with Vodafone. When I first got it, the speed was amazing - faster than some of my friends using ADSL2+ broadband. About 2 months ago the internet would drop out at 8pm on the dot every day for a week and no matter what I did I couldn't get it back. Then for a week or so I couldn't connect at all. I tried to call Vodafone customer service and got circled around with everyone telling me I had come through to the wrong section (because apparently post paid mobile broadband doesn't even have a section) so I eventually hung up to try again and 'Lara' glitched up and I couldn't get through at all. I eventually gave up and just tethered the internet from my iPhone. THEN about a month ago my connection speed dropped to less than dial up - especially if I was using something like SKYPE that doesn't use much bandwith at all. I would have full reception in that little satilite tracker but it appeared as if I had no connection at all some of the time. I didn't want to have to deal with the customer service people again so I went into the store to ask about it. The kind lady appologised for the service as she'd obviously had quite a few people coming in and complaining. She explained to be that if I call up customer service then they can guide me through some steps to change a few settings on my computer and if that doesn't work they will cancel my plan with no financial penalty. I think I am going to take my laptop into the Vodafone store and they can pay for the phone call, however long it may be, to a 1300 number because luckily for me, my phone is not with Vodafone.
5 Jan 2011 08:03:29 PM: It might be of some interest to you good folk Re: Vodafone shop service. This is, in part, a good news story for a change. A few weeks ago I went to the Vodafone dealer at Seven Hills shopping centre here in Sydney - West Metro. They were able to activate my "no service" phone via a new sim card all done in 10 minutes. They can do this because they use a dealer only commercial line to a dedicated dept.in India. They don't have to run the "LARA GAUNTLET" like we mere peasants have to endure.

The reason I did this was out of frustration with Vodafail India. I posted about this yesterday & I'll give the link at the end of this post. What they did a few weeks ago was to offer me a new $29 plan @ 12 months. On that same call I pulled the plug on my Vodafail G3 broadband service due to a lack of a connection for 4 days? I signed up with Virgin. My phone/sim was working fine, I was on that same phone (after waiting 70min)for "SERVICE". What made a difference was the prospect of losing another customer. Vodafail has a "special" department & their people there can authorise concessions, as revealed when I asked about that. However what they did was put me off the air for 3 + days? All they said was that I should have a phone service within 24 - 48 hours. By that stage I was just plain tired, so I did'nt think that it was'nt right until later. There was no way I was going to call LARA again. What I think should have happened was that my working sim would have been transferred over with my same phone nunber? What they did however, was to allocate me a new sim card(= new coded number)? How they were going to get that sim card to me from India was beyond me? Perhaps teleport it like they did in Star Trek (beam me up Scotty)? I only realised their blunder when at the Vodafone shop the salesgirl(on the dealer hot line) had to ID my existing sim, cancel the Indian sim & ID a new sim provided by the shop. Alls been fine since then no drop outs or anything. I'm using a basic Nokia flip phone.

Previous post ref: 10188 Sweet & Sour dated: 4 Jan.2011 03:36:57am

WHAT WOULD BE MORE EFFECTIVE WITH ALL THE PROBLEMS EVERYONE IS HAVING WITH VODAFAIL IS INSTEAD OF TAKING A LEGAL CLASS ACTION IS TO CUT OFF THE MONEY SUPPLY TO THEM. A CLASS ACTION OF DISOBEDIENCE, LIKE BE PREPARED TO PAY THEM, AS PER YOUR CONTRACT BUT NOT UNTIL THEY GO BACK TO A BETTER NETWORK (MORE EXPENSIVE FOR THEM). THE CORE OF THE PROBLEM HERE IS THAT THEY ARE CUTTING CORNERS IN THAT NEVER ENDING SEARCH FOR INCREASED PROFIT. LIKE THEY'VE ALREADY DONE WITH THEIR G3 NETWORK. PERHAPS AS AN INTERIM MEASURE FOR THE "CAMPAIGN" BUY A BASIC PHONE AND A LESS EXPENSIVE SERVICE E.G. SAVVYTEL. I'M SURE THAT IF 30,000+ CUSTOMERS STOPPED PAYING THEIR BILLS & STOPPED USING THEIR NETWORK = NO PHONE CALLS, COUPLED WITH BROAD MAINSTREAM PUBLICITY ( HOW ABOUT DISRUPTING THE VODAFAIL SPONSORED CRICKET FOR EXAMPLE?) THEY'D BE REACTING QUICK SMART.

A RELEVANT PHRASE HERE IS "MONEY TALKS & BULLSHIT WALKS".

10623 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is ULTIMATE at 5 Jan 2011 01:33:20 PM
Originally, was it Vodafone Fail or iPhone Fail.... well when my contract came to renewal (after Apple had issued me 6 new iPhone's) Vodafone has said.. definatley an issue with Apple, try the HTC. I had only experienced a few issues whilst living and working on the North Shore / Western Suburbs.

Move to the Northern Beaches and its a whole new problem. At this same time i recieved a HTC mobile on the $99 unlimited plan and if i try to drive from work (Northern Beaches) - Home (Lower North Shore) the reception drops out in 8 different spots. At work i need to walk 50m outside to get reception when 50 other staff have full reception on different networks.

This issue was "escalated" by a Vodafone Store and 4 calls to Vodafone and they have done notrhing in 2 months.

I JUST WANT MY PLAN CANCELLED WITHOUT PAYING EXIT FEES.... OH AND TO MAKE AND RECIEVE CALLS AND SMS...

10622 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Can't get reception on the Hume Highway at 5 Jan 2011 01:27:22 PM
I travel regularly on the Hume Highway between Melbourne and Albury and consistently have reception drop out from the moment I am out of Melbourne until I hit Albury. Seems crazy to me as it's a main transport corridor servicing thousands of people a day. Why can't I make a call?

On a drive to Western Australia in November saw me have reception only in Ceduna, Port Augusta and Margaret River. I went days without reception but most of my time was spent in well populated areas.

And my least favourite blackspot? The corner of Bourke and Russell Streets in Melbourne's CBD. I guess maybe that's a remote location too huh?

My 8 years of loyalty to Vodafone is about to amount to a transfer to Telstra when my contract ends in July.

Well I have signed up on 24 month contract with iPhone 4 at $69 Plan Cap, and service has been ridiculous and almost all day except when I am in Sydney CBD I get full strength of reception and really sick of it.
I called up Vodafone and was told that this maybe iPhone4 design issue and not Vodafone, but it is definitely Vodafone issue as my other prepaid phone with voda sim gets same issue. I was fed up with following it up and with the support desk who can barely speak English I was wearing low on patients.

I asked to have my contract terminated but was asked to pay $1400 to opt out but I bluntly refused.

I wish I had signed Optus contract.

I've been a customer for 10 years and had previously been their walking billboard of advertising. Loved them. Reception even in small regional towns. Since January 2010....rubbish. I was advised my handset was too hold and to upgrade. I wanted to buy an iphone outright. I was convinced to get it for close to nothin on a plan and my $79 cap would provide me more than I'm currently getting. Rubbish, bills for $500 per month later proved my old school contract was far superior. Then to add to this, my reception has not improved...perhaps worse. Messages sending and received days late (if at all). Emails not sending. Dropped calls. And what do I need to do...and endless list of tasks...still getting no where.
To make matters worse I recently had voice surgery and haven't been able to speak...Vodafail single handedly took away my only communication means of texting and emails. Way to go...feeling so isolated.
PS using Virgin broadband to write this. Excellent service.

According to the salesman that sold me my phone vodafone operates off telstra towers! If this is so why can I have a telstra phone with full bars sitting beside my vodafone mobile with no bars?? There are only 3 spots in my house where I can make calls. My job requires me to be oncall and I cannot rely on my vodfone to have reception therefore carry 2 phones wth me, my vodafone mobile and a telstra mobile( what a pain). Don't get my wrong I would never go with telstra due to there pathetic customer service and expensive rates but vodafone charge you for service that is not available for the majority of the time.Come on vodafone pull your socks up and stop charging us for no reception!!!

Yesterday I had several calls go straight to voicemail even though my phone was turned on, not on a call, and had good reception.

Also couldn't get any data flow whatsoever in the middle of Woden with 5 bars 3G reception. Even attempting to update the temperature in a weather app, or update Twitter etc (i.e. things that require just a few kB of data) would time out.
5 Jan 2011 02:10:04 PM: works for me in woden perfect on my HTC legend

10596 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is exceptional poor, fluctuating inconsistent service at 5 Jan 2011 12:28:34 PM
I have been a vodafone customer pretty much since the advent of digital telephone technology and i have never experienced the poor, fluctuating inconsistent reception service that I have over the past several months. It is now at a stage that I actively monitor my reception and will often see my level of reception go from a full 3G service to searching to no service. This is unacceptable for the 21st century.

10595 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is VERY FAIL!!!! at 5 Jan 2011 12:28:26 PM
I am tired of making calls to friends and clients, and during the calls the connection drops out. so then i have to call back again to that same person, which then this eats into my capped plan and then leads to extra cost to some one i was originally speaking to first time , my bill just came this month at 235 dollars, from previous months being either on the 69 cap or just going over by a few dollars, i am also tired of trying to get onto the mobile internet coverage and not being able to get through on the service that i have signed up to.. now do i get a rebate for the lack of service! i bet not..
The mobile coverage is crap i will be lucky to get on the internet in the Queens Park area of Sydney, and i can see the mobile tower across from my balcony...total joke.
Thank you Vodafail for organising this site for us, your naming of this site is spot on.....

This is now beyond a joke.

10593 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is EPIC FAIL at 5 Jan 2011 12:22:17 PM
I have been with Vodafone for more than 8 years and recently I switched to a Blackberry 9700. I pay $49.00 per month (not much i know) and for this i was told i would get "super-fast 3G reception". Sadly i believed the staff at Vodafone. The harsh reality is I am lucky to get "3G" reception for more than 30% of the day. I live in the Kellyville area and the bulk of the time, I get "EDGE" reception which is terribly slow. I'm not even going to start on how many "drop-outs' i get during a phone call.
Vodafone used to be very good but they have really dropped the ball when it comes to reception for Smart Phones. Shame really..

I have been on the phone to vodafail since 11.32am and ir is now 2.18pm, and still no answer. They keep hanging up on me when transferring me. Last night I was on the phone for nearly an hour, was told I would be called back, he tried but couldn't get through because I had no coverage.
I'm a single working mum I don't have time for this bull.

I've told them I want to end my phone and mobile broadband contracts. Simple. But no, I'm wasting my time, neglecting my child, while waiting for someone to answer my call.

Vodafone sets up taskforce to fix network issues as 9000 express interest in class action
Ben Grubb
January 5, 2011 - 12:05PM
Vodafone has set up "a number of taskforce teams" to try to fix network problems following a class action legal threat in which about 9000 customers have expressed an interest in joining.
Sydney law firm PiperAlderman last month sought disgruntled Vodafone customers to press a class action over dropped calls, bad reception and poor data performance.
Today it posted an update on its site saying that approximately 9000 Vodafone customers had registered their interest.
Advertisement: Story continues below
"In the next five to ten business days, we will be sending group members a request for further information relating to their specific circumstances," it said. "Upon receipt of this information, we will process it and take the matter forward."
Vodafone has faced customer backlash over thousands experiencing poor service over the past few months.
The company initially blamed software bugs and argued that there were no serious problems with its network. However, just before Christmas, its CEO, Nigel Dews, issued an apology.
In it, Dews reminded customers of plans to "significantly" upgrade the Vodafone network.
In a blog post yesterday, the company's director of customer service and experience, Cormac Hodgkinson, said Vodafone had set up "a number of taskforce teams" that were "working to continue to resolve the current network issues which have been affecting some customers".
Hodgkinson also said Vodafone was "monitoring and testing the network across the country to evaluate its performance".
"While signs are encouraging, there are some customers who may not be experiencing these benefits as yet, and we will continue our program of work to ensure that customers see improvements over time."
Between January and March, Hodgkinson said, the company would be upgrading approximately 141 sites which transmit signals to mobile devices.
"These improvements focus on areas where there is either high traffic where capacity is a priority (which will help with data performance) or in areas where coverage is a priority (which will help with general coverage)," Hodgkinson said.

5 Jan 2011 12:21:16 PM: VODAFONE CLASS ACTION UPDATE Wednesday, 5th January 2011
Thank you to all of you who have registered your interest in the class action. To date, approximately 9,000 Vodafone customers have registered their interest.

In the next five to ten business days, we will be sending group members a request for further information relating to their specific circumstances.

Upon receipt of this information, we will process it and take the matter forward.

In the meantime, for your convenience, we set out answers to some frequently asked questions.

What information do I need to give you?
At present, we ask that group members await our request for further information, which will be sent within the next five to ten business days. This request for further information will enable us to assess the claims against Vodafone.

Can I make a claim if I am not a current Vodafone customer?
We are currently investigating claims of persons who have been Vodafone customers at any time in the past 3 years. If you have been a Vodafone customer at any time in the past 3 years, you should register your interest.

Can I make a claim if I am a 3 customer?
Due to the number of enquiries we have received from 3 customers, we will investigate potential claims against 3. When we ask you for further information, we will ask you to identify yourself as either a 3 customer or a Vodafone customer.

Can I make a claim if I am having internet issues?
Due to the number of enquiries we have received from internet customers, we will investigate potential claims relating to Vodafone's internet service. When we ask you for further information, we will ask you to identify yourself as a mobile, fixed line internet or wireless internet customer.

Can I make a claim if I have phone compatibility issues?
When we ask you for further information, we will ask you to identify any phone compatibility issues, and investigate this issue as a potential basis for claims.

What are the next steps?
The next steps are for us to gather and process the information provided by group members, identify legal claims available to group members, identify the value of the claims, and apply for litigation funding. Upon successfully obtaining litigation funding, we will work with the funder to prepare a claim to be filed in court.

What is litigation funding?
Litigation funders pay the legal costs of taking a case to court. Usually, upon a successful outcome, the litigation funder will be entitled to reimbursement of the legal fees it has paid plus a percentage of any compensation to which group members are entitled. This commission is usually in the range of 25-40% of that compensation. If litigation funding is obtained successfully, you will be asked to enter into a litigation funding agreement with the funder.

How long does the class action process take?
The class action process depends on a number of factors, including the attitude of the respondent, the amount of time taken to gather all relevant information, and whether a negotiated settlement is reached without the need for a hearing in court. This process can take 12 to 24 months.

Updates
We will provide further updates on our website on a regular basis. Please check our website regularly for these updates.

Brand new phone resets itself 10 to 15 times per day. Calls drop out all the time in the middle of Brisbane. Not worth waiting for data retrieval unless connected to wi-fi. 3G coverage is terrible even in Brisbane CBD so using Facebook, Youtube or similar is just a waste of time. Have been on hold with Vodafone customer care for over 110 minutes, 4 times in the last 2 weeks. Keep sending me to different departments and i find it very hard to understand some of their staff. Extremely frustrated

10576 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Very Fail at 5 Jan 2011 11:55:09 AM
I have had issues for the past 6 months with data and MMS. I have been with vodafone for many years but it is has only been when i got my Iphone, 6 months ago and actually started using my phone for things other than calls and text :)

At first I thought the slow data was just part and parcel of it being through a mobile phone, but then MMS message became 50/50 as to if i got them or not. I rang vodafone and was advised to try it in a different phone as my Iphone may be having some issues. So i went and bought a cheap vodafone prepaid handset and put my sim in. I tried this out for just over a month with the same issues as the Iphone. So i rang again and was told to go into a store and they would help me out. I went into the store and spoke to a guy that didnt seem to interested in helping but he spoke to me about a sony ericsson and he advised i shouldnt have an issue with it. Waited until start of November and thought I would give it a go and ordered it. When I received it I still had the same issues. I rang the call centre again only to be told try another phone - I advised them that this was now my third phone in less than 6 months so it could not be that - they then told me to go into the store and get a new sim card as it was probably just because the one I had was old. So I went into the store and got this new sim and this did not fix the problem either. So I rang back and was told that they would escalate the issue and would get back to me (this was the end of november 2010), they also told me that there was no issue with their network and it was probably going to turn out to be an issue on my end - kind of rude they way they said it too.
Anyways I got a voicemail to call them back at the start of December and try to do so throughout the whole of December but the wait times were just too much to set aside the time.
Finally got ahold of someone today 5th Jan who tried telling me all the same things the last people did (i.e that it was my phone or my location or my settings) I told them to look at my notes and that I had been through this and three phones. They went silent and only then said that they were having some issues, didnt know when it would be fixed and would not offer anything to make up for running me around and three phones later as he advised it was my choice to follow their technical trouble shooting requests.
I think I have given them a fair go to be honest and resonable with me as a customer, I think it is time to go somewhere else.
Thanks also to vodafail for letting me have somewhere to vent :)

I live in Freshwater on the northern beaches & travel on the bus to Sydney CBD daily along Military Road. I continually have my phone calls drop out along military road and am never able to connect to the net from my iphone when i'm anywhere whithin range of the harbour bridge. On other days my phone won't even give me any service to send text's or make calls, let alone 3G access to get on the net - the best yet is that on military road i get the signal on my phone that says it's on roaming because it can't connect to 3G. For crying out loud, living in the Sydney Metro area I should have 3G coverage wherever I am & shouldn't have to put up with this crap. I switch to vodafone after being with Optus for 10yrs and I am seriously disappointed. Oh not to mention the ridiculous on hold time when you try to ring & get an answer out of Vodafone!!!

10574 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is more pain than gain at 5 Jan 2011 11:51:17 AM
I have internet service on my mobile but it rarely works. What is more frustrating is the number of calls that drop out. Everytime I have to call the number back it costs another connection charge. I have become cynical enough to believe it is being done deliberately by vodaphone. I had excellent coverage at home until a few months ago now I have to stand outside to stop the call breaking up or dropping out. I am checking my contract as I believe it can be voided because I am not getting the service I pay for.

There is the current typical Vodafail mess of... rarely able to get reception to make calls, send sms, use data services unless i stand in 1 certain spot in my workshop or venture outside and even when Im outside I feel luckier than a lotto winner if I generally find reception. I dare not complain that I dont have reception when Im at home or visiting friends as I guess Vodafail hasnt commited to that or generally providing services within homes.. after all it is a mobile with which we can roam the earth looking for reception when we need to make a call right?? Thanks Vodafail.

A question I wanted to raise on this site is... has anyone experienced calls regularly dropping out at intervals such as 5 mins 2 seconds... 10 mins 2 seconds etc?

This occurred in various areas of sydney for me and some people I know also using Vodafail. It occurred from mid 2009 to early 2010. I would check my phone at the time, there would be reception and I would be abe to call back or others would call back immediately. This would happen consistantly for about a week then it would be back to "normal" for 2-3 weeks then it would reoccur!! At times I can remember having literally dozens of dropped calls per day and it would regularly happen 2 seconds into the minute of a call... most of them at 5 mins 2 seconds. Interestingly enough this just happens to add up to extra $$$ for Vodafail, as we are billed for that entire minute or 30 sec block, of which we only used 2 seconds. Then, we are also left with little option but to call again so we incur 2,3 or more flagfall charges for the one call. If this was intentional its an interesting way of increasing their income from calls by 10 - 15%. Considering Vodafails honesty and "ways" it appears they were INTENTIONALLY dropping calls in certain areas for a given period then moving to another to minimise customer complaints.

Please note that in all cases above Vodafail = Vodafone :-)

Anyone else with a similar experience?

10570 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Mammoth Fail! at 5 Jan 2011 11:48:31 AM
I get next to no signal in my current house, my old house, my workplace, or indeed anywhere else I frequent. I live/work/socialise in and around the Sydney CBD! I never step outside of a Vodafone 'strong' network service area and yet I suffer dropped calls (including several when I'm on the phone to 1555... Oh, the irony!), text messages that refuse to send immediately, picture messages that are often received 8 or more hours later by the recipients, and consistently blown out bills from repeatedly re-making calls and attempting to send text messages multiple times. My last website complaint got a response from this alleged 'taskforce' of Vodafone's requesting the following information:

Mobile number and alternate contact number
PIN to authorise access to your account, this is generally a 4 digit number
Full Name
Handset Make and Model - if iPhone, please ensure latest software update has been made
Fault Address Line 1 - Street #/Name/Type
Nearest Cross Street?
Fault Address Line 2 - Suburb
Fault Address Line 3 - State/Country
If in a multi storey building, what level?
Successful calls previously at same location? Y/N
When did this issue begin?
Successful calls currently at other location? Y/N
Does the sim card have the same issue at the same location in a different Handset?
Type of coverage that is now showing on the handset? 2G or 3G?
Have you tried manually selecting 2G or 3G?
How many bars of coverage is showing on the device?
Examples within 72 hours for dropped or failed calls (time and date)
Provide the called number for Failed calls,Dropouts

Ummm, are you serious?! I have work, uni, life, etc. to be going on with- I absolutely don't have the time nor the patience to write you an essay proving what is wrong with your own network when you already know!! I think it is a disgusting way to operate a business to put the onus of proving adequate or inadequate service onto your customers instead of yourselves.

So disappointed and frustrated, Vodafone. And my wireless internet stick was equally awful to the point where I no longer even try to use it- it frustrates me to the point of distraction.

I cringe when I pay bills- I resent giving the money to Vodafone for such sub-par service.
5 Jan 2011 12:44:08 PM: That is an extraordinary number of questions for V/F to ask.
Perhaps it is just to discourage complaints, they make the process so long winded.
It is a laugh they want an alternate number to call you on :they obviously realise they may not reach you on your Vodafone number due to their crappy network.
5 Jan 2011 06:11:51 PM: How is a company to know when calls have dropped, time, date and where, yes it my seem to you like an essay but I'm sure their not mind readers. As an example you don't go to a doctor and say I have a pain and expect the doctor to let you know straight away what is the cause without him asking questions about your history or getting you to take a test. Now picture a base tower trying to get calls/sms through, without stating what time or dates when you had these issues looking through that base tower information pad for your info is like looking for a needle in a hay stack dude! I feel more sorry for the staff who are here coping it all, when its not their fault yet some customers I'm sure love to take it out on them. Just when NAB had a system issue they cop it BIG TIME, poor buggers. I would be livid to with coverage issues or queue lines but at the end of the day that person your speaking to is human after all and remember its not them that has caused your problem directly, their managing the best they can, it won't help matters with abusing them.

Have been trying to contact Vodafone for network issues and call drop for last 2 months. Never been able to rach the right team. Been on hold for hours and hours untill now. They play passing the buck, one team transfers to another to another saying its not the right area/team. Am sure i chose the closest/right options and selections given by vodafone.
Have sent emails but no response yet.
Been to few stores, was told they dont take complaints.
Can someone suggest how to reach these worst customer service on earth. Will anyone have email address of Customer Service Head and CEO.
5 Jan 2011 12:55:38 PM: Maybe visit their swish new VHA Head Office in North Sydney at 40 Mount Street. Level 7. If your lucky the CEO might invite you in for a latte.
Perhaps if a few thousand disgruntled Vodafone customers lobbed on their North Sydney doorstep they might feel less insulated from their unhappy customer base ?

10563 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Slow Data at 5 Jan 2011 11:36:41 AM
I recently went from Vodafone BIB to 2GB Data plan. The plan comes with 1.3GB local data and 750MB GPRS. I switched over in November 2010 and have noticed that 95% of my data usage is from GPRS with only a few MB for my local data. I would assume that my local area would be the state I am staying in which is CBD/Metro WA. Each time I use Voda's data network, my phone loads everything very very slowly. In frustration I often switch to my local wireless connection as this is much much faster. What is the point of having a data plan when you can't use it.

I have just lodged an email complain and will see how long that takes to get resolved. I don't want to stay on the line for 2 hours as the call back service is often not available when there are too many callers calling in to make complaints. Has anyone been successful in getting out of their Vodafone contracts without panalty? I was happy with Voda when I had my Blackberry but since going over to Android/Iphone, I think the service has dropped dramatically.

10562 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Failed Miserably at 5 Jan 2011 11:36:28 AM
I live 5 kms from Perth CBD in an established suburb. The vodaphone service is very flaky, fluctuating and unreliable. The signal strength bars on my phone vary from zero (no service) to 2. Call dropouts, incoming calls going straight to voicemail, poor data-rates are very common. I complained to vodaphone, and documented 3 instances with date, time, screenshots as required in their complaint process. They raised a network fault, and informed me that a technician visited my home and made 2 calls of 5 minute duration successfully closed the issue. They cannot guarantee reception indoors as something in the structure would be interfering with the signal. My house is a standard brick and tile residence and when I put a Telstra sim in my phone borrowed from my friend I get 5 signal strength bars.

I used Vodafone for 2 months here in Sydney before switching over to Telstra.

Even though Telstra is a lot more expensive, I can't even explain how good their coverage is, the speed of their 3G data networks which runs laps over Vodafone's so-called 3G (but really just EDGE speed most of the time) and the clarity of their voice network (3G). I rely on my iPhone daily, as a money making tool. If your life or income depends on Vodafone, don't hold your breath.

I have a Blackberry with Vodafone and a Wirelss Internet Mobile thing with Vodafone. I recently moved from Craigieburn to Greenvale in Victoria. When living in Craigieburn both the GPRS on blackberry and ability to get internet on the wireless mobile internet were working maybe 20% of the time, the rest of the time I was out of range or on "edge". I thought it was because I lived in a peasant neighbourhood and by moving to Greenvale ( a slightly less peasant neighbourhood) my reception issues would improve. But no, extremely poor GPRS on Blackberry and ability to get reception on wireless internet still both sh*t!! My Internet reception for example, when connection is actually successful, the reception is rated between Very Poor and Poor (and it only connects probably once every three attempts).

Cant get reception inside my local shopping centre.....in Melbourne might I add! At least 50% of the time when I try to log on to my email account via my phone I get the "communication error" and cant log in. All other times it takes minutes to log in, while my partner who has the exact same phone but with a different provider is online in seconds......internet is useless and way too slow! My main problem is reception....its a disgrace, I live 20 minutes from Melbourne CBD and its third world reception...in fact, the reception is probably better in the third world! Get your act together vodafone....not that I care anymore anyway, im definitley changing providers!

Multiple business mobiles on one account, mostly repeated call drop outs in Sydney and Metro area's, delay of SMS messages, up to several days delayed in fact. Have tried swap handsets, sim cards, other tests, several complaints to Vodafone in writing (mail and email). Problems continue, not as bad as 3 months ago, but still present, and considerably less quality coverage than Optus or Telstra

vodafone@custhelp.com: A good starting point email
customer.enquiries@vodafone.com.au: Another email, that used to get through, they may have since discontinued

-PXT send but only about 30% are received by other iPhone users on voda and other networks
-They neglected to tell me that they have been overcharging me $50 a month for 9 months due to the blackberry data now included in the $79 cap (was sorted after 3 days worth of calling)
-Ever since they have been a sponsor of Cricket Australia, Australia have sucked!

I was with three and wanted to stay with three but was told I needed to move to Vodafone.
I was then charged a $100 exit fee from three that I wasn't informed off.
When I asked about reception in country areas and was told that the agreement three had with telstra would most likely roll over to Vodafone.
Turns out I now don't have reception at either of my parents houses and even in Melbourne I find reception drops out regulary.
I wish I could go back to three!!!
5 Jan 2011 05:24:13 PM: Activate national roaming thru 1555 which will enable voice and txt on telstra network when there is no voda coverage, this agreement with 3/telstra concludes aug 2012
6 Jan 2011 02:25:48 PM: Did you go to a multibranded 3/Vodafone store to get your new Vodafone plan? If you did and you had less than 3 months to go on your 3 plan then the cancellation fee should be waived. If you fall in that category call 3 to discuss applying the credit or refunding the cancellation fee.
The agreement with Telstra is not rolling over to Vodafone FYI

I sit in my office in the Perth CBD and people who attempt to phone me say it goes straight to voice mail, even though the phone has reception bars! Very frustrating when it is a work related call and I will only see that they have called if they leave a voice message that may come through in an hours time. The reception never used to be this bad, sometimes I need to turn the phone on and off before text messages can be sent or received, very frustrated and time to look at a new provider I think.

I have had a mobile broadband USB device for over a year now and have experienced nothing but trouble since day dot. I have complained numerous times. Some days I cannot connect to the internet at all and other days if I get a connection, it will drop out constantly. When I first signed up with Vodafone I was assured a number of times that I was in a very good coverage area. I was extremly cautious before I signed up with the 24 month plan. I am so disapointed with the service that I have received from Vodafone. The hold times are crazy and when I actually get to speak to someone I am told they will call me back. Well guess what - I'm still waiting. All I ever wanted was to receive the service that I pay for yet Vodafone continue to direct debit from my account every month. My husband & I have both mobile phones with Vodafone and have been with them for years. As soon as my contract ends I will be changing suppliers. If I can get out of my contract for the broadband I will. I am sick of not receiving customer service that I am entitles to as a consumer. I have even failed a uni online test as my connection dropped out so many times, my test time ran out!!! Vodafone - let me go so I can get another internet connection that works - my future relies on this!!!

10528 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is PEOPLE CAN'T REACH ME EVEN IF I M IN THE MIDDLE OF SYDNEY CITY at 5 Jan 2011 10:55:36 AM
My friends have been complaining to me everytime of mobile switched off or not reachable.
Its not a made up story but this actually happened to me. Me and my girlfriend went for shopping to sydney city. She was standing next to me calling on my mobile got THE MOBILE YOU ARE TRYING TO CALL IS SWITCHED OFF ! despite of full signal strength on my mobile.

I was working from home and my boss was trying to get hold of me over the phone. He couldn't contact me as my phone was out of reach despite of my phone being in the absolutely good coverage area.

I had been customer of vodafone then switched over to 3 and then back to vodafail. If i go in the basement I can get optus and telstra signal but couldn't connect to vodafone.

Oh dear Vodafone, please fix the signal problem I am with you for the next 22 months.

10526 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is I thought I was the only one - it turns out I'm not! at 5 Jan 2011 10:53:20 AM
First - access to a line is a joke.
I live right near North Sydney and work in Sydney CBD, so when I look at my phone, I typically have nearly full reception. That is until I go to make a call. The minute I go to dial, reception drops out, so I virtually cannot use the phone. The same happens when someone dials in - I find out about it because they leave a message. And then, when I eventually do get a line, I almost never get to complete a phone call successfully as it drops out. And I live in the middle of Sydney. The middle of Sydney. There's plenty of reception, just insufficient capacity. On my plan I'm supposed to have up to $500 worth of 'free' calls a month - but there is almost no possibility of me ever using this, because I can almost never get a line. I'm on a 24 month contract which ends at the end of this year - then I'm out of there. Switching to Vodafone was the BIGGEST mistake I've ever made.

Second With the Phone - I bought my Nokia N97 last year. It was supposed to have a battery life of well over a week, even with 'normal' use - but I was lucky to get 24 hours out of it - even if I didn't use it. I changed all the settings to the lowest power options possible - and still the Battery would be dead within 24 hours. I went back to the store, adn they replaced the battery. But I still had the same problem. So I went back to the store and they replaced the whole phone. But still - the same problem. So I decdied to just live with it, and I have to charge it every night. Ironically I have an old Nokia - at least 5 years old - in which I have never changed the battery and it has better battery life than my new one.

Vodafone should sack its board for dereliction of duty. How many months has this been going on for. Surely a good CEO would have gotten this under control as a serious priority as opposed to taking everyone's money and delivering this useless service. Where is the accountability ?

Internet broadband at home very rarely connects, and when it does, maybe lasts a minute or two then drops out. Have had this problem for months, but it's getting progressively worse.
Lodged complaint with Vodafone yesterday. Was told there's an upgrade to the broadband in my home area next week. Investigations logged for mobile coverage issue at work and home, said they'll get back to me in 3 days. Totally frustrated and fed up!!

10523 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is 95% fail at 5 Jan 2011 10:48:59 AM
I have been a longterm customer of Vodafone - by longterm I mean 10yrs + .... and in that 10 plus years where do I begin?!
I cannot describe the frustration - the difficulties in communicating with a communications company!
I have had lost calls, dropped calls, sms messages that time out and don't go through ... or finally come through at 3.11 am (for some weird reason)... I've had no, limited or non-existent data or broadband - 3G is dodgy at the best of times, incorrect billing ... and the icing on the cake was when they refused to sell me a new fone (for my partner when he changed jobs) because I've paid my bills late (occassionally ... as a protest) because I was a "risky" customer ... they are fortunate enough to still have me as a customer only through my pig-headedness!
When you try to speak to a person ... you get the infuriating Lara .. (I hate Lara) ... and the cycle of "we're really busy at the moment ..."
It is not unusual to have wait times to customer service in excess of 45 minutes ... whereupon you get a call centre who has no idea of the problems, denies there is a problem, blames the customer/client, insists that you go through a stupid procedure to re-set your phone, and still have dropped calls, bad reception and overcharges on your bills at the end of it.
Trying to contact them with a complaint is a nightmare - trying to email them is even worse - I have a list of replies stating that my complaint has been dealt with ... it never was, and probably never will be!
Contrast this with a well known car insurance company that I had to deal with on New Years' Day .... less than 3 minutes ... TALKING TO A REAL PERSON ... had my claim sorted.
Vodafone is just good enough and apart from the class action - I think they should be investigated under the Trade Practices Act for false and misleading conduct ... and maybe we should get the ACCC involved too...
Constant misleading rubbish is all we get fed from Vodafone.

I have been fortunate that Vodafone cancelled my broadband account without any cancellation fees and now in the process of returning the dodgy USB. All good there..
HOWEVER... my mobile contract is still up in the air thanks to the dodgy service I have been receiving. I lodged a complaint with Vodafone about the coverage only to receive the automated response. It looks like I live outside of the Vodafone coverage area (despite the consultants arguing with me about the reception in my area)thanks to the coverage map on this site. The complaint has now gone to the TIO for resolution but meanwhile I am stuck with a horrible phone service :(

Some days mobile broadband is almost unusable. Regularly logs me off mid session, sometimes within seconds of logging on. Only fix offered by the nohelp line (average waiting time 40 minutes) is to uninstall, re-install and download updated software. So far I have had to do this somewhere between 30 and 50 times in 12 months. Can't wait to get away from this sham of a company. In spite of claims, no network coverage for phone or broadband east of Northam or west of Kalgoorlie (WA).

Have spent over three hours over three separate calls on hold. One of those calls was an hour and forty minutes before speaking to a human being. So much for the callback service - was never given the option.

Their support department has admitted that I have poor coverage indoors at both work and home, in spite of supposedly having "full" coverage at my home address. Tired of paying extortionate prices for lack of service.

However, if I do get out of my contract, what are my options? The alternatives aren't much better. Optus have poor performance in Melbourne, and their accounts department are clueless, and Telstra have an excellent network but the performance of their accounts department appears to be inversely proportional to the quality of their network, and their prices are now almost-extortionate, down from extortionate.

How depressing.

I constantly loose network coverage for the internet and have to use my home wifi. Very interesting though I have spoken to a contractor that works for a company that repairs and looks after the towers for vodaphone and I asked him what was going on. He said They can only go and repair or do work on the towers and network when requested by vodaphone, which surprisingly they have not been asked to do. I have been haveing problems for the last 6 - 8 months. Not happy I can tell you.

10501 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Network dropouts at 5 Jan 2011 09:54:42 AM
I have experienced a huge number of network dropouts in the Sunbury area late last year. At some stages I can't even make calls. It seems to go in phases. Most days are good, but then you get these days where you are speaking to someone and the phone keeps dropping off (up to a dozen time in one call) to the point of frustration. I drive regularly from Melbourne airport to sunburn regularly and at nearly the same point each time the phone drops off as well. Can't they switch tower without dropping off line. Very frustrating.
Recently both my wives and my phone would not even log onto the vodaphone network, so it's not a phone or location issue. I spent quite a while on the phone to try and get the problem resolved, but they tried to insist that it was an issue on my end. Typical!
