26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

7880 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Dead in the water at 28 Dec 2010 11:26:41 PM
As a business customer I have had countless missed calls, the only reason I know they are missed calls is when voicemail pipes up a couple of days later.
If you do try to call that poxy computer system you will finally get some person from I think Sri-Lanka as it's cheaper than Deli. With all the technical training of a chimp I assume where they work is where the only power is so it fires them up, they them treat you like you have only just climbed down from a tree yourself.

After some 10 years I have just walked away from them. I walzed in to a Vodafail store got my customer number then walked across to Optus. I was up and functioning an hour later.
Since changing over my phone has started ringing again. hmmmmmmmmmm

Vodafone has gone from being ok / average to lower than the ant excrement on the soul of your shoe. If enough of us walk their network may function again but at what financial cost to them? Sadly I suspect not enough to send them broke.

I live in the Sandgate area in Brisbane. We have been told that the signal we get for both wireless internet and mobile phones if good for our area. RIGHT. Basically, phone drops calls, continually reconnecting call. Text messages are set and dont get received until a minimum of 30 minutes to 48 hours after sent (48 hours was most extreme case I have had). I can usually get through ot the call centres (where ever they are located these days) and do speak to someone but predominately get fobbed off with lame BS excuses as to what I am experiencing or told that it can't physically happen on the network. RIGHT, you arent using it. MY wife uses an IPhone 3GS between Greenslopes and Sandgate on VODAFONE and get the worst coverage with continual drop outs and data lose.
Once out of contract I will most likely be moving unless there is a massive improvement VODAFONE.
28 Dec 2010 11:28:16 PM: I have had text messages take three months.
28 Dec 2010 11:41:18 PM: You would think all the Vodafone consultants and pathetic losers would be in bed by now instead of replying to these posts, how sad it is to feel insecure in your ability to express yourself or your company, or do your job at the moment hey?

I had a friend send me an MMS on Xmas day, I received it on the 28th.

I lose reception while sitting at my desk at work, for no reason at all.

I often send messages (mostly MMS) that are never received, or can't be received as a regular MMS is - again for no apparent reason.

NOT ONLY DO I NOT GET SIGNAL IN MY HOME, MY CALLS DROP OUT, I HAVE PROBLEMS SENDING SMS AND MMS AND THEN TO TOP IT ALL OFF, AFTER I RING UP AND HAVE TO SIT AND WAIT FOR OVER 3 AND A HALF HOURS TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE ( IN INDIA????!!) IM TOLD THAT THE LINE IS CLOSED AND TO CALL BACK, THEN I RING THE NEXT DAY AND FINALLY GET TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE WHO TELLS ME ADJUST SOME SETTINGS AND WILL RING ME BACK TO SEE IF THAT HELPS.... BUT THEN I GET WOKEN UP AT 6AM BY VODAFONE CALLING ME BACK... AND AFTER TELLING THE LADY ON THE PHONE THE TIME SHE SAYS SHE WILL CALL BACK, AFTER MISSING HER CALLS TWICE I THEN RECIEVE A CALL BACK THIS MORNING AT 5 AM!!!!!!!!!!! WAKING MYSELF AND MY NEWBORN AND MY HUSBAND UP!!! NEEDLESS TO SAY NOT ONLY WAS I NOT IMPRESSED- I WAS IRATE!! ESPECIALLY SINCE CALLING UP VODAFONE AGAIN TO ASK ABOUT MY COVERAGE ISSUES AND BEING ACCUSED OF LYING AS APPARENTLY THE CALL CENTRES DO NOT OPEN THAT EARLY THE MAN ON THE PHONE RUDELY TELLS ME!!!
21 Jan 2011 04:27:15 PM: It's not just Vodafone who do the 5am calling trick. I've had Telstar do it to me, too. Because, you know, the entire country is on Eastern Daylight Savings time, remember?

7870 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Terrible 3G & Messaging, Poor Local Vodafone Shop Service at 28 Dec 2010 11:09:22 PM
I live in Ipswich Sth East QLD and have been disappointed in Vodafone ever since i resigned August last year. I live about 1 klm from the CBD and have the signal drop from 5 bars to no service constantly during the day. I also get sms ranging from 30 mins to 24 hrs late, not good if you are in Business Vodafone.
Apart from the lengthy delays on the phone to customer service. Its had enough to understand the Mumbai consultants who promise you a callback, but it never happens, its even harder to take the empty promises of "it will be fixed in 24 hrs, but never is"
Another thing that bugs me is the Local Vodafone Shop at Riverlink, Ipswich. I don't think i have ever come across a ruder bunch of so called "consultants" in my life.Ask simple questions and they pass you off to call customer service on you phone(i thought that is what i went to the shop for, customer servive, what a joke). My last visit i was ignored for almost 20 mins before actually being served, preferring to serve people who just walked in the door. When i finally got served i asked them how much it would cost to be released from my contract (a simple enough question)but they could not tell me, again saying to ring "Customer Service".
Obviously it is more important to sign up new contracts constantly then to actually look after your existing customer database.
Why is Vodafone spending millions buying Crazy Johns and the 3 network, TV and Airtime during the cricket, when the existing network is where they should be spending the money and get it up to scratch.
I hope they relise that one happy customer can create another 10 customers thru referrals, just imagine what 10,0000 unhappy customers could do for a corporations referral base.
Pick up your act Vodafone otherwise acquiring Crazy Johns and 3 network may not have been the best place to invest you money.

New Ebill......yeah great, how about putting peoples names on them.....When you have 2 contracts in one house, whos bill is whos? You have to log in to find out. 7868 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Pretty Bad at 28 Dec 2010 11:01:05 PM
Ive experienced sms messages delayed to whoever I send it to and being a hearing impaired person who cannot understand speech on the phone anymore, this is my lifeline...Ive had to change from 3G to 2G just to ensure texts get through. Ive had this problem since early 2009.
Currently, my phone is in a family members name and got this phone back in March 2010...for the first time, they did not send a paper bill for November, so this family member had to find out why...turns out they started sending it by email to someone else, which I gather may be the previous owner...this family member wanted the months bill waived but they only took $20 off. Thats ok, but for the bill to be sent to someone else? Really this is very incompetent since Ive had this number 10 months now. Are they passing phone numbers that are cancelled too soon? What about the level of privacy? My bill shows my address and phone numbers of people relevant to me and sent to someone else to look at?
But back to the sms problem, has been bit better with switching to 2G but why should I with the so-called coverage theyre supposed to have?
I used Vodafone pre-paid back in the early 2000's and everyone said they were very good and they were...what has happened along the way?
Im sharing this as a person who relies on visual equipment to communicate (non face to face contact) and if there is an emergency, as being hearing impaired and I dont have a landline, if I cant get a message out there, then this is a very severe problem.
I want to see a better level of service right across the board!

Dont need you to smear my post with utter crap.
28 Dec 2010 11:31:33 PM: Ha, if you believe it happened
28 Dec 2010 11:33:40 PM: maybe you are...you cant spell and you certainly are not humane...got better things to do than to answer to morons with maliciousness...might be "disabled" in your 'eyes' but too intelligent for idiots like you.

I have been with Vodafone for only 2 weeks, because of their new infinite unlimited plans. I moved across from Optus, live in Brisbane city 4000 post code, service is shit, 3G is slow, can't even use internet on my mobile. So much for my new Vodafone exclusive HTC Desire HD. Misrepresentation and Vodafone's non-disclosure on how bad their network really is. Misleading to customers and they need to be sued. Class action, I think so!

7864 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is SHAME ON YOU 'NO SERVICE' VODAFONE at 28 Dec 2010 10:47:17 PM
We live & operate a business on the Sunshine Coast in Qld and have three 24 month phone contracts with Vodafone (unfortunately), two business and one personal. When we took out the contracts 14 months ago we were assured that the reception in our area was excellent & widespread.....famous last words. The reception in both our home & business is completely unacceptable and if we do manage to fluke reception the drop out rate is extreme. There is only one area in our office where we get reception if we're lucky. The majority of our business calls have to be conducted outside and around a corner, simply unacceptable, and as a formality at the beginning of each call we inform our clients of the likelihood of the call dropping out and assure them if this does happen, we haven't hung up on them.
Text messages sent and received can take up to three days, some simply don't arrive.
Home reception is virtually non existent.
We've made numerous calls to Vodafone 'Customer Support' (inappropriate choice of words) and all to no avail. We pay $113.99 per month for each business contract and $55 per month for the personal contract, totaling $282.98 per month. Money very unwisely spent but contractually bound.
Great to see someone take the initiative, and time, to take Vodafone to task, thank you, and hopefully a class action will make Vodafone sit up and take notice of all its disgruntled customers.
SHAME ON YOU Vodafone, you have no right to call yourselves a 'Service Provider', unless of course you include the prefix 'NO'.
28 Dec 2010 10:53:38 PM: dude enough with "shave your balls in protest". be orignal and make it interesting!! I challenge you are a new action of protest per comment that you comment on ;)

That, and I'm so tired of mms messages taking up to 16 hours to send or receive. and their mobile Internet being so slow, even with 'full' service (if you can call it that).

Recently switched from Vodafone from 3 (which is owned by Vodafone) because Vodafone promised greater coverage and I am getting far less coverage than before and to make matters worse I am now getting Christmas morning txt's this evening, Dec 28th. 3g coverage in Sydney is appalling. Had to go to Bathurst for a few days for work and the signal there was far, far better than in Sydney. Even when I am in an area that has decent coverage, all it takes is a concrete constructed building (which is all of them) and I'm down to 1 bar or often no service at all. IN CBD SYDNEY????????

What kind of modern telco cannot supply uninterrupted service indoors in the CBD of the country's largest city? Idiotic.

7842 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is EPIC at 28 Dec 2010 10:17:58 PM
I have been a vodafone customer for a while however I recently travelled overseas and activated global roaming. Upon returning to Australia I noticed that I wasnt receiving text msgs on time, able to make calls when I wanted, or able to receive calls most times. I contacted vodafone on several occasions to discuss my issues but it took about 5 calls and most of the day to speak to someone there. ONce I did the customer service operator told me to disable 3G and go to the slower 2G network to resolve the issue. WHen I stated that it would slow my internet connection down the operator said it would only slow it down a "little". I believe the advice goven by vodafone was not the ideal solution. Also, I wanted to unlock my iphone (which is no longer under contract) to which I was quoted a fee of around $75 to unlock it. This fee is ridiculous and overpriced!

I have also been sucessful in two refunds from vodafone after submitting complaints with the telecommunications ombudsman regarding very poor wireless usb internet coverage.

I hate vodafone (and all sub class networks for that matter) - but cant afford the premium services and good coverage of Telstra.

Cheers,

Aaron of Canberra

7835 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Really Poor network in CAMP HILL BRISBANE at 28 Dec 2010 10:02:30 PM
I live 7km from Brisbane CBD (Camp Hill)and I get virtually zero data coverage and limited phone reception, I have to go outside to get a clear line...once I have a clear line it continually drops out. A half hour conversation may take 5-6 calls because the person I was talking to tries to call back after the line drops therefore it goes to voice mail when I call. So much for having internet on my phone literally does not work...where I live I get no data coverage, where I work I get no data coverage therefore I only get to use this when I am in the CBD.
25 Nov 2011 04:58:14 PM: The best way is go to the tio and when you phone vodafone get there employee number every time you call them and write it down in a note pad once you have done this call the tio by a landline phone 1800 062 058 www.tio.com.au and i had the same problem with optus and the tio can get into the departments where the public can't get to then the provider will call you and say i want to port my number out. I did it and i was in the middle of a 24 month contract and all i had to pay was the remaining payment on the handset and nothing to the rest of the contract and when i got the call i went to the telstra shop and ported my number and i haven't looked back and telstra uses 850 mhz on there next g and iPhones work very well on the network

7830 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is The worst at 28 Dec 2010 09:58:41 PM
Got my plan nearly two years ago...was promised coverage out of the cities as I was moving to Broome so this was vital to me before signing. Upon leaving the store i had issues from day one with service and was told I needed to switch from 3G to 2G in some areas...I agreed to the plan as it was supposed to be 3G....the problems continued to such an extent I made them create a file and list all my calls for the next few months. I tried to get out of the plan but was by now remote and had no phone for over a week...with a charge to me to call them back everytime from a landline. Countless calls to customer care to no avail but by now out of the cooling off period and was locked in..very long history of complaining. Moved overseas but still had to honour plan, and have prepaid...which I had to do with Vodaphone as I still had my Vodaphone 'Storm' Blackberry which I have also had nothing but issues with...HAVE TRIED TO CALL ALL DAY TO DUMP THEM ONCE AGAIN BUT AFTER WAITING OVER HALF AN HOUR TWICE AND TOLD I HAD COME THROUGH TO A WRONG DEPARTMENT THEN SENT SOMEWHERE ELSE AND HAVING THE PHONE DROP OUT AGAIN!...I THEN WENT INTO THE STORE...ONLY TO BE TOLD THEIR SYSTEMS WERE DOWN AND THEY COULD NOT HELP ME OR TRY TO CALL FOR ME. Here is the great part....I purchased $20 phone credit which seemed to go through but tonight when I once again tried to use the phone to again try to cancel my existing plan which I am still being overcharged for when I don't use it...MY CREDIT HAD NOT BEEN APPLIED!!!!! ...SO NOW I HAVE TWO VODAPHONE NUMBERS...ONE I CAN'T GET THROUGH TO CANCEL EVER AND ON A PREPAID THAT I CANNOT USE TO TRY TO END THIS NIGHTMARE.

7829 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Vodafone is dishonest at 28 Dec 2010 09:58:31 PM
Despite all the network issues, Vodafone technical support is still telling customers who call that their SIM card may be faulty, or their phone may be faulty. This is so dishonest! Vodafone should be required by the TIO or ACCC to contact customers individually and advise them of the network issues. It should also be required to provide refunds and allow people to cancel contracts without penalty. And finally the TIO and ACCC should order Vodsfone to cease signing up new customers until it can provide the service they are paying for. The ACCC and TIO need to step in and protect customers from Vodafone..

I live in the city, in Brisbane, and my network coverage is constantly going out. I am often sitting around waiting for data to come through and have given up on many occasions. I am unable to receive network coverage in a shopping centre! I am only a new customer and had I known I would never have gone with vodafone... and I was a three customer for years - I can't understand how a merged company with three can be getting such a different experience. I don't care so much that all my complaints go to India but I do want them listened to and I do want coverage, as after all, that's what I pay good money for!! Yours truly, outraged customer.

Not so bad as others. Just a dumb salesman who told me I'd get BB support on a cheap plan which was a lie.
Then it took 50 + calls to Customer Support to find why I had no reception. 3 months ago a nice Indian dude finally pointed out that the BB model (Storm) I'd contracted into had no HOPE of connection in Central Vic due to band availability.
Eventually was sent a BB Bold 9700 which is far better but useless unless I pick specific areas on kitchen bench etc.
Look; the VF staff have done their best to help and have given some major rebates and enhancements.
It's liveable-with and easy to manage in a neolithic way. But I'm tech-wise and know enough how to maximise a poor handset.
But I wouldn't want my life to depend upon it.

On Saturday December 11th 2010 I had NO SERVICE for phone calls, text messaging, mms, 3G or internet service, repeat NO SERVICE!!!On 13/12/2010 I received a text from Vodafone apologizing for the disruption and services are full restored, but the network keeps dropping in and out no 3g service. I then received another text from Vodafone 16/12/2010 notifying customers "due to the disruption all calls and text made in WA will be free". Well that's very nice Vodafone but it would help if the network would be up and running again. There's no point offering free calls when your customers don't have any service.

7814 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Total fail at 28 Dec 2010 09:39:31 PM
My husband signed a two year contract for two mobile phones with Vodafone and we were promised that we would have no problems with coverage and service after having problems with another mobile company. Total lies just to get our business, if I was one of their employees I would be embarrassed being dishonest and telling absolute lies to customers to make a sale.
Like a lot of other Vodafone customers my husband and I have very poor reception and service if at all, sometimes our phones cut out during calls and some days it can take at least three days before text messages are sent or received. I don't know how many times my husband or someone else has tried calling my phone and cannot get through because I have had no service. Some days I go out the front and stand on the middle of the road just to try and get enough service to make a phone call. When my husband did ring and complain he could hardly understand the operator because she could not speak clear and proper English and for nearly two hours she had my husband pulling apart the phones and putting them back together I don't know how many times and and it didn't make any difference like we knew it wouldn't and he argued with her that it was not going to make any difference.
Vodafone offer great plans but you cannot benefit your monthly call credits because of their poor effort to provide their customers with the quality service that we are all paying for. Shame on you Vodafone and all your staff that are employed to lie and rip people off!

Other than constant dropouts and ZERO reception at allot of places, I am wondering why the government has not empowered the TIO and ACCC to get this solved before now.
The Laws are there, but the TIO has no power to do anything and the ACCC wont do anything.
This Telco mess has been going on for 10+ years, and still no resolution.
Go Figure!

AUSSIES GET SCREWED BY ALL THE TELCO'S.

We are reaping what we sowed. All the telco's are rubbish because they throw money at the government come election time and we all tolerate it. Just came back from a business trip to China and got full broadband coverage even when i was three days travel away from Beijing. Go three days west from Sydney and see your coverage. THE MORE YOU TRAVEL YOU LEARN WE ARE THE NEW THIRD WORLD - GET USE TO IT.

7809 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is intermittently at 28 Dec 2010 09:36:08 PM
I live in a densely populated suburb south of Brisbane where I would expect excellent coverage to be available all the time; unfortunately this is not the case, especially with my 3G not actually receiving/sending any data packets at times. It appears that the issue predominantly occurs in areas lower in altitude (now if Vodafone say that is expected, I say that is pretty lame given the advent of mobile technology in the past 5-10 years). Also regardless of the coverage area I am in (including Brisbane CBD), every second or third time I make/receive a call, the call gets connected, but neither me nor the person at the other end can hear a thing. I thought maybe it is my handset and reset all settings to factory settings (as until a couple of months back it was all good), but the situation remains. So everytime I make/receive such a 'virtual' call, I or the caller at the other end loses their credit for nothing. Very frustrated and I had no idea that such issues were so widespread; three cheers to the good work mate. You can count me in on any initiative that would escalate/resolve this issue.

After being to I would receive signal at my principle place of residence I signed up to a 24 month $114 cap. Once I got the phone home I had no signal at all, not even at the front of my house! Dealt with the issue for almost a year only being able to use my phone in the centre of town and in various other restricted places I had become fed up with paying dead money to VODAFONE! So after contacting customer care and talking to some call centre in "Melbourne" various times I finally took them to the Telecommunications Ombudsmen, even Vodafones response from that complaint was not overly satisfying. Saying my service was being investigated but would take 4 to 5 months to complete. I said I was not happy with this and then they said I would break the contract (12months) early, but it would cost $1000+. After fighting it some more the termination fee has been waived but was told I would have to pay full price for the handset $850 for an IPhone 3GS. I continued to tell them that the phone is outdated and obsolete. They lowered the price to $300 but still I am not willing to pay that, I believe I should be allowed to keep the phone after the pain and lies I was sold from the start! Still not happy and think that compensation would be in favor! Not to mention the local Vodafone store closed down almost a year ago....wonder why?!?!?!? Was then told when I was switching to OPTUS using a new IPhone 4 I would have the same issues because Vodafone and OPTUS use the same networks! How wrong are they! Get next to full signal outside and still medium strength inside! They need a wake-up call and its about time!

I'm an occasional phone user i.e $30 last about 9 months, mainly used when the car breaks down type of thing. on a number of times i have been unable to phone the racv, due to lack of coverage(live pakenham work port Melbourne)and have had to purchase second phone (telstra) for such occasions here i general lose my money as the car doesn't falter that often, but it's still a necessity in case it does in one of the many black spots.Once another carrier offers an extended usage time ala 365 days, i will with great speed leave vodafone, at home the phone will die for upto 48hrs probably 4 times a year and for what ever reasons I have dialed the 1555 number it has left me that baffled i now just let things go because either I can not get to the department to which i seek or I hang up after 45 min. on a time i did get through i was directed to there cweb site but that did not have a link to my initial inquiry. so now I don't bother.

Its technolodgy.. its going to mess up sometimes!! MY internet with bigpond was SHIT so did i create a website about how crap it was..NO i changed providers. So quit your moaning and do something about it.
Yes its annoying but this kind of thing happens with any network.. they all have their faults.

hard to change while you're on a contract too
28 Dec 2010 09:34:20 PM: 'do something about it' ? - like what exactly?! That's what people are complaining about... They can't do something about it, because they're locked into contracts. I think this website is everyone's effort of trying to 'do something about it'. If you want to make a pointless complaint about pointless complaints, why don't you setup a website about it? Geez
28 Dec 2010 10:10:48 PM: if you dont want to be locked into a contracts buy your phone outright! People are on contracts cause it means they get a phone worth $500 for free...You cant have everything, so if u dont want a contract dont get it.. its very simple!
29 Dec 2010 10:05:38 AM: Thats not the issue, people are frustrated because they are unable to sought out the issues with Voda. If people were able to talk to someone and sort out their issues i don't think there would be so much Voda hate around. IT is the poor customer service that is irritating people, I would be happy to deal with the coverage issues if the company was willing to actually communicate with their customers and show us that we are worth something to them. Basically Voda hasn't just failed in their service their PR department has failed big time too

I had xperia x10 on a $80 CAP.There were heaps of issues with the phone,so i wasnt able to use the features properly plus reception wasnt that good as well. Therefor i had to give my phone back to vodafone so they can repair it, after two weeks i got a call from crazy johns that your phone has been repaired. when i got to use the phone again the same problem were there which i asked them to repair but sadly it wasnt fixed. so the guys at the shop said unfortunately they cant do anything about it but sending it again for repairs therefore, i didnt have any choice except for sending it away then getting another brand phone. well now after two weeks i recieved a call from crazy johns that your phone has been repairs and its here at the shop. This time again when i turned the phone on at the shop , now i see they have fixed first problem but the key pad isnt working now. crazy john people were friendly but they couldnt do much according to them only vodafone can change my phone or the brand. Therefor i had to ring vodafone, so i explained them the situation i am in. the person who was on the phone said that vodafone cant change the phone brand which is highly unfair.it's gone away twice to get fixed and later they tell me they cant even change it.Vodafone should be able to do better than this.Sucks to be stuck in a service like this.
i am hoping that some action will be taken and that the phone is replaced to a differnt brand that works just fine.
Cheers

My husband signed a two year contract for two mobile phones with Vodafone and we were promised that we would have no problems with coverage and service after having problems with another mobile company. Total lies just to get our business, if I was one of their employees I would be embarrassed being dishonest and telling absolute lies to customers to make a sale.
Like a lot of other Vodafone customers my husband and I have very poor reception and service if at all, sometimes our phones cut out during calls and some days it can take at least three days before text messages are sent or received. The whole family was with Vodafone for about 10 years. Relatively no problems in that time.
Switched to another network three years ago (better offer) and have only recently swapped back to Vodafone due to the need for a Blackberry (previous network company did not offer them).

Nothing but problems ever since I took out my contract. No reception in places that other companies have outstanding reception. Drops out sometimes for no reason, for ages, only to receive network in the same spot a few minutes later. Calls failing, even with reception. No internet access, even when I have some/a lot of reception.

Glad to see I'm not the only disgruntled and disappointed 'Vodafail' customer!

I was told by several stores that Vodafone in 2009 had made significant upgrades to their network, providing much better coverage around Australia. Looking at their maps, it looked like it would be completely fine in my country home.

When I get the phone, I find the network is just as useless as it always was, and using internet tethering is very difficult in my country home.

Vodafone coverage maps are extremely misleading and claim coverage in areas which have zero reception. (and I'm not just talking about a few dead spots)
28 Dec 2010 09:38:03 PM: I know what you are talking about, I live in Hervey Bay and the vodafone reception here is disguisting. I sent them an email explaining how their coverage map is misleading and that I should contact the ACCC about misleading information.

I had been a Vodafone pre-paid customer up until 4 months ago, when I decided to go on a contract with them for the new iPhone.
Up until recently, I always valued Vodafone as my provider. However in the process of changing over to contract I was confronted with the worst customer service I have ever recieved from any place I have ever been. I was promised delivery in 2 weeks, and after 4 weeks it still hadnt arrived. Each time I called (after 1 hour in a queue) I got the response that 'I would recieve mine in the next batch that was to come in stock.. I ended up asking to speak to a manger which in turn got my phone delievered within 2 days and also had a credit applied to my account for the delay.
Since being on contract, I have had poor reception in places where I used to have full reception, my voicemail messages are always delayed, and the internet connection is extremely slow.

Vodafone have excellent deals and all my friends and family are with them, so we take advantage of the free Vodafone to Vodafone talk. however if it was not for that, I would definitely have changed providers.

I expect to recieve what I pay for!

I've been getting constant call drop outs and sometimes can't even get through at all. There's been some text messages that never even got to the recipient, and I thought they were just being rude and not responding! So I went to my local vodafone shop to ask the guys there (because it's almost impossible to get through to the customer service hotline). At first they blamed my iphone 4 saying these things are notorious for reception issues so I'd just have to put up with it! But I showed them the case I had on it so it shouldn't be having reception issues due to the phone so they changed their story and told me that vodafone was upgrading the local tower. Then I posted on facebook to see if others on the same network had the same issues and found loads of others thought the vodafone network service was crap too! And to think I bought the vodafone shop guy's BS story about them upgrading their towers!

I was with Vodafone for 2 years on a contract, it was my first mobile phone. The last year of that contract I could not make any phone calls or recieve any calls due to lack of reception, coverage etc. I could only text for a year and even they would sometimes be recieved by friends hours later. Put simply, I would get better reception putting my sim card into a rock. After calling vodafone and being able to experience their wonderful customer service whereby I am constantly put on hold for hours at a time, I decided to give up and wait for my contract to end. Once it expired I actually had to still call them and get it cancelled. This was the funniest part because the informed vodafone employee I had "didn't have the authority" to cancel my contract which was already expired, I think he didn't have the ability to complete his job. Anyway he puts me on hold for an hour or so as usual and I hang up and get my brother to ring and ask for the latest phone from vodafone and no surprises here no put on hold he vets straight through to the salesman. I got a new phone with telstra and vodafone continues to send me bills even though it's expired and I am no longer using the phone. Good job vodafail.

I currently use a prepaid usb dongle. I have been travelling to Hobart, Launceston for work purposes for a few years and signed up on contract due to the positive spin the sales people told me here in Hobart. They said a while back that Hobart/Tas was getting a major 3g upgrade. This of course didnt happen until a couple of years ago. I decided not to renew my data contract and went prepaid which is cheaper. The service is awful and data never gets above 50k. I have tested all areas of Hobart and the northern part of Tas and never been happy with the speeds. They must have very thin data pipes to their sites. I feel I have been conned. I will not be recharging my Voda card. I will stick with Telstra as I have their prepaid card as well. I would suggest if you want great coverage and dont mind paying extra stay well clear of Voda.

I had a Nokia E63 with Vodafone Pre Paid, and I was told that I would have coverage on par with Telstra in Tasmania. Needless to say that Vodafone's 3G Coverage is like 2 bars out of 5 in Hobart, and 3 bars out of 5 for Standard 2G GSM. I left Vodafone and went to Telstra, and I can tell you now that the coverage is 200% better than Vodafone. Vodafone's Customer Service Lines are now outsourced overseas, and if you try and call you are ether on hold for ages (shortest I experienced was to have Voicemail removed was 40 minutes - TIMED. Countless times I have called and the call was terminated. I know it was terminated because I was using handsfree and I had ample coverage (believe it or not), I heard the greeting and then the call was terminated... before the issue was explained let alone resolved.

MAKE THE MOST OF NOW??? NOT WITH VODAFONE. Obviously Ricky Ponting is Captaining the Team that deals with Coverage and Customer Service.

The problems started when they started when they started when they started outsourcing their customer service lines to Mumbai, India, Egypt. When it was in Hobart - Service, Price and Coverage were brilliant. Never had a problem. Start sending Customer Service to Overseas and that starts to fail and then the prices go up. Merge with 3 who doesn't want to cover Tassie... then your service coverage begins to fail.... I am starting to see a Pattern here Vodafone!

My mobile coverage over the past few months has been terrible. It drops out, never has service, sends the same MMS 15 times (still says "unable to send") and the Internet is never available!! The only reason u have put up with all of this is because I am in a contract. My husband finished up with his vodaphone contract last week and has now change to a different server, I can't tell you how jealous I am. My husband went overseas in July when I was 6mths pregnant, do you think I could ring out when I needed him? Nope.
Not to mention out USB Internet dongle!! Mmm where have I put that thing I pay for monthly that NEVER works? however, soon after I started using it, I was very frustrated with the poor network reception, call drop outs. As I am a medical practitioner on frequent emergency duties, it really made me very anxious over last two years and most of the time I have to make several calls myself to Emergency department in the middle of night to make sure they are not making unsuccessful attempt to reach me (because of highly unreliable Vodafone network). I had no such trouble with my previous service provider.

7736 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is horrible at 28 Dec 2010 08:45:22 PM
Long story short... Joined Vodafail five years ago and they were good at the time (as long as i stayed in the CBD of Sydney). Two year ago they upgraded me to a Blackberry and it all fell apart. No coverage, late texts, no 3G, no email service, a warranty repair, three attempts to return handset only to be told they wouldn't accept. I live forty minutes from Sydney CBD and apparently have full coverage in my area, it eventually got to the point where my work gave me a Telstra phone (ironically another blackberry) and this solved all my problems. After seeing the news story about this website i rang Vodafone and complained, they gave me $79 credit and asked me to renew my contract. I'm still laughing at their balls to ask me that. I'm switching to prepaid with any other carrier i can find. Teach them a lesson and take your money else where.

I almost signed up for the recently promoted VOID-A-PHONE infinite deal. How many customers with other networks did cancel their contracts to sign up???
VOID-A-PHONE must have already had complaints about the lack of coverage before offering such an incredible deal. Dont worry - I still get bad service but at least I get coverage. Phew

I was with 3 and wanted to cancel so they put me onto vodashit, for 2-3 months I had insane call dropouts that the Indian fucks blamed on the iPhone, I was amazed if I ever saw more than 1 bar of reception for more than 5 secs.... Anyway after a week of complaining every day to cancel supervisors they agreed to give me 5 days to fix it and after 3 days I called up n went off my head again and yay the fucking cockheads cancelled my contract, I am now with telstra and not a single dropout. Happy times

Can't use it @ Eastlands Lower level. (6 kms from CBD) No coverage on the East Coast of Tasmania (St Helens)
On hold for ages with Customer Service
Told me my Blackberry Storm is unlockable, Got on EBay paid $1 US and it is now unlocked and will be my work phone very soon when this contract expires.
All phones are UNLOCKABLE. Check Ebay, don't pay $50 unlocking fees
28 Dec 2010 08:46:50 PM: Email is constantly not working. Keep having to turn network connections off & on so it will reset it self. No coverage in the middle of Centrepoint either.

7723 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is disgraceful at 28 Dec 2010 08:38:19 PM
I run a business and on many occasions I have to ring our client twice to communicate. What is worse when we recieve voicemail messages a day later after our clients call.

I could be siting in my office in Carlton and the phone wont ring but it would go straight to voicemail

It has come to a stage of where we are considering cancelling all 4 contracts with Vodafone and look for alternatives.

With all the coverage this has recieved I will give them the benefit of the doubt for another 4 weeks but if it continues they can expect cancellations from me - contatct or no contract

I was with vodafail for 2 months into a brand new contract. I had constant bad reception, not receiving calls, delayed text messages etc. I complained to them and after filling out a few questionnaires etc after a week they admitted that they legally had to let me out of the contract for free because I wasn't getting the service I was paying for. Although I was disappointed in the service I was happy that they were the ones that said I could be let out of the contract free of charge. I'm surprised alot of you haven't been able to do the same!

28 Dec 2010 08:39:32 PM: I might as well have a rock. Not much point having a phone if I can't use it!!!
28 Dec 2010 08:41:58 PM: I second this...people don't even have food or clothes do you see them complain NO...all of you get a REAL LIFE.
28 Dec 2010 08:46:12 PM: Australia is a very backwards country in comparison to network service providers in Europe. I come from Easter Europe, my country has only existed as such for 20 years, and the telecom service providers are miles ahead in their development. I never experienced any problems with my mobile phones living in Eastern Europe, but as soon as I arrived in Australia - Vodafone has given me lots of trouble. The way Vodafone is treating its customers would be completely unacceptable where I come from. How has Vodafone gotten away with it so long?
29 Dec 2010 08:44:47 AM: Was in UK July/Sept and found 3G not good outside major centers. In Aus we get Telstra 3G in most of the tinpot towns as we travel. Wakeup - support Telstra to get even better coverage - forget the hopeful telcos that don't have the infrastructure!!

my wife and i are with vodafone. both mobile phones are indicating strong signal, i.e. full reception in rosebery. however, we can't send text messages and get any phone calls (both outgoing and incoming calls). tried using the home line to call and the answer i get was - "the mobile service you have called is currently unavailable, please try again later"
28 Dec 2010 09:41:27 PM: I get this message a lot. I know the number I am calling is available. Even tried calling my Dad while standing next to him and got this message. When he calls me it goes straight to message bank. Doesn't even ring. Then they charge me to collect the message.

7712 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Extreme FAIL! at 28 Dec 2010 08:30:16 PM
Besides the recent WA outage. I notice the data is slow, sometimes almost as slow as the older, GPRS/EDGE. Calls drop out every 5 to 10 minutes, ending with a very load BE BA BEEP noise. While the coverage is 'ok' it is almost NEVER at full bars on Dual-Band 3G OR 2/2.5g. When I lived in Adelaide it usually sat at 3 or 4, in Albany it is now 2 to 3 bars. The Telstra/Optus phone I have are both at 5. Vodafone is bloody shocking, and I want to leave the contract... guess I will have to wait it out.

i have recently changed to vodaphone due to their great deals (infinate calls etc) but i have rarely been able to use my phone due to coverage issues, dropouts etc.
The latest being at this minute when i am trying to book flights from queensland to melbourne for a family funeral, I have at this stage dropped out 8 times and counting make that 9. Not good enough.
I also have coverage issues from one street to the next within the hervey bay region. Vodaphone get your act together.

7708 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is EXTREME!!! at 28 Dec 2010 08:28:06 PM
After I switched to vodafone on the 2nd June 2010 I have experienced nothing but trouble. My family and I were going back to WA for a holiday, so I was suppose to be entering into a contract where i would receive good coverage. They told me it would be 98% everywhere, what a joke. The phone dropped in and out, messages were being received anywhere from 1-5 hours later, not to mention the next day. Phone calls were missed, unable to be made or I would have to try again later as my service just dropped in and out. All this for $69 a month, I honestly thought this could be fixed. How wrong could I have been. It has been such a joke really, they have asked me to remove my sim card and try it in another Vodafone on numerous occasions, told me it was the iphone, told me any thing, but it would always come back to being my fault. They would tell me they would have a Tech Support Officer call me, when, in 2015. The amount of phone calls that i have made since taking this contract is ridiculous. The straw that broke the camels back was the beginning of April this year when my 15yr son broke his ankle at school at 10am. After the school had been trying to contact me for hours, I finally recieved the first message 5 hours after the incident, REALLY GLAD IT WASN'T LIFE THREATENING!!! My argument since has been, what if something worse had happened to one of my children or husband, now I really do know that I am only a number to this company. Vodafone still did NOTHING about the problems after this "No Service". Phone continually comes up with "Service Lost - Vodafone no longer your provider" this is something I seemed to have got use to,WRONG.. I rang Vodafone on the 22nd Dec 2010 and was on the phone for over 2hrs, lucky I rang from my land line or it would have been a waste of time (mobile would have dropped out). The Tech Support guy gave me a case ID and told me he would call back on the 24th Dec 2010. During this time, I was to once again record all details of phone calls made and received as well as texting. If I still experienced the same problems when he called back, then they would waive my contract and my next bill. Remember $69 a month since June 2009, and my payout figure is now $372.
Vodafone did text me on the 24 Dec 2010, but I could not call the 1555 number as funny, I didn't have service, why send you this ridiculous number when you can only call it from your Vodaphone account, well you can only do this if you have service right!! Christmas Day no service, Boxing Day no service, 27th no service 28th today guess what Service has done nothing but drop in and out still can't do a dam thing. Have just got of the phone from Tech Support and after 18months of this am now finally getting somewhere. They will now wave my next bill and my payout figure, but I had to return my Iphone after 18 months of paying $69 a month for a service that very very rarely worked.
When i refused and told them that i would take it further (courts), they relented and came back to me and told me I could now keep the iphone and that they will cancel the contract and waive all bills.
No, I'm not holding my breathe just yet, we will wait and see if Vodafone will keep their word. I will, in the mean time keep my phone and find myself another provider.

poor reception, drop outs, the internet service using the usb drive is just as poor as its phone coverage. when i call for help i am put on hold for literally hours and then given no satisfactory reposnse as they simply pass me from person to person (thats if the call does not drop out). i used to be with 3 and given that apprently vodaphone has taken over their towers and has included free roaming in my plan i was expecting excellent reception. i can not understand this terrible service and i am not happy!!

We have all the same problems as everyone else. No signal or hardly any in side or outside the house. Batteries not lasting. Taking a long time to get to get data downloads depending on where you are. So in the end went another service provider which is now costing more money. And we still pay for a service which is useless. Was told the coverage was better than it ever was. In the end a waste of money and time.

7698 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is common sense people at 28 Dec 2010 08:25:15 PM
Seriously just use a bit of common sense. The monopoly of phone companies in australia is not held by vodaphone. So they obviously cant afford and will not have the same level of reception as other companies. Before I signed up to a contract I did a little research and in my area vodaphone barely gets reception...so I signed on with one of the larger companies... common sense. Also although there is less reception around there prices are much cheaper.
28 Dec 2010 08:27:02 PM: I do not have reception issues - like you, I checked this before signing up. I have been a Vodadone customer for many years. It's only been the last 12 months where almost every call drops out. Not something you realise until after you've signed the contract.

After explicitly stating that i needed coverage in a particular area in NSW, and showed in-store, online on their "coverage map" that i would defiantly receive reception, i signed into a 24 month contract. The first time i traveled to the area at which i needed the reception, nothing, not a thing. It had been about 2 months after i had signed so i couldn't exit the contract. Vodafail.

I've just recently switched from optus, after been with them over 10yrs, I've noticed a hugh difference with reception. It drops out alots. I also get texts late and some didn't even get through which resulted in me missing my appointment!! I've called the company directly about this but it's still happens, although less frequently. I am absolutey fed up with vodafone. I am stuck with the contract unless I pay them out. They are in breech of their contract by not providing the service that we pay for. Why should I pay for it if I dont get the service. My complaints are: no.1 bad reception alot of the time No.2 call drop outs (alot of the time) No.3 No notification of calls coming through has been going straight to the voice msg bank Not even a ring! the following day the notification comes through this was 12 hours later !! & yes my phone was fully charged. ( I had no idea people rang me!!! I had missed calls whereby no notification came through for these even as missed calls. I work for an agency oncall to my horror one of the calls was for work which I did not recieve therefore missed out on work for the day !! And this is the service that I pay for ??? No. 4 when you ring customer service to get help these human robots continuously trouble shoot until you get so frustated...(a complete waste of time (the problems still exists today) then you realise "Hello!! this is as bad as it gets" for a phone company - Welcome to Vodafone or was i hearing right - VODAFAIL.

always have a very poor reception everywhere i go. Sometimes i can manage to call someone but half way through conversation it would just loose connection and get cut off.Very frustrating especially when you are having important conversation. It is the same with their internet coverage, most of the time can't even use my internet on my phone due to poor reception. Unhappy customer !!!!
