Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

6051 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Disgusted at 28 Dec 2010 07:44:21 AM
My contract runs out in August and I have had nothing but problems with Vodaphone, even to the point where I have had to carry another service providers phone just in case I have no coverage. I have had people try to call me and it says my phone is switched off, could be in the middle of a call and it drops out....I have now had to close my business as a driving instructor due to lack of work which I feel is caused by Vodaphone. My business runs by text message and mobile calls. If people can't get through they go elsewhere :(:(:(

6049 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Frustratingly Failing at 28 Dec 2010 07:42:47 AM
My reception from home is almost non existent and YIP I signed up for a two year contract for almost $80 per month. If I stand in the right spot, holding my mouth in a certain position, occasionally the phone call may not drop out. Failing that, I can be found walking around the house waving my phone in the air with my three children 6,5 and 3 chasing after me- occasionally I can stand out in the middle of the road and HURRAH I might even get three bars reception. Not only am I paying $80 per month, I am also paying additional costs of calling from my landline, when I shouldn't have to use it at all. The reason I paid $80 per month is so that I could call NZ with my $550 credit that I should have access to. I recently complained to Vodafone who told me that Yes, I am in a low (NO!) reception area. This isn't what they told me when I signed my contract - they were more than happy for me to sign the dotted line, accepting a service they couldn't even provide. They have offered to reduce my monthly fee to $50 per month and waive my current month's bill or alternatively I can buy the handset for $450. What's the choice? I can't afford to buy the phone at this point so it looks like I am stuck with another 18 months of no reception and using only using the phone when I am out of the house. Go Vodafone.

6045 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Massively Fail at 28 Dec 2010 07:41:40 AM
I was signed up to a 2 year plan with Vodafail only to find out after 9 months of angst that my home is not in a 3G area! Went into a Vodafone store at Chermside and the girl told me I should call the tech department to see about cancelling the service. Went through the usual with the guy who then transferred me.... to a closed department.

I never got even decent 3G coverage - I catch a train from the city to Strathpine and I can't even load a webpage between Northgate and Strathpine station, which is about 15 minutes!

Let's just say I can't wait til the cancellations department opens....

I will say though, in fairness all of the staff I've dealt with or spoken to have been very polite and professional (dud transfer aside).

6039 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is where do I start? at 28 Dec 2010 07:40:05 AM
I had been a faithful customer of "VodaSucks" to the point I had 2 phones and a USB modem with them all on post paid. after not being able to contact my partner who worked all over the country side with his job I became more and more frustrated. As for the USB modem well lets just say if you are running a small business from you home computer do not rely on that. Anyway I rang the call centre only to be out sourced to speak to some one posing as an American to cover the Indian accent (GRRRRRRR) I asked how much it would be to get out of my contract as I was over not being able to speak to my partner due to him never having reception. the Person gave me some "who ha" that the phone should only work perfectly in the billing area????? what the hell is that crap? they claim that they have towers every where yet for some reason conveniently they didnt happen to have one in the area he was staying at the time...or the time before or the time before that. so anyway they told me it would cost a small fortune to get both numbers out of the contract but would look into waving the fee for my partners phone. after telling me this was they case but I would have to pay for my number to be dropped I decided it was better to move on and pay my way out. when I got my last bill surprise surprise I was charged for both.... this story will be continued as I am looking in to getting the whole thing waved.
But wait there is more back to the USB I still had time left on my contract for that when I decided to got with Big pond so I told my mum to give me the $40 per month so my younger sisters could use it. all was goo until one of my sisters mates stole the SIM card out of it. anyway we soon figured this out and let Vodafone know so they could cancel the SIM. how ever they didnt so I got this massive bill for Phone calls made from the SIM. after 2 hours or more on the phone to the Indian call centre I finally go it waved but had to pay for they over expense and to cancel the contract.

6038 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Voda****ed at 28 Dec 2010 07:40:04 AM
Have been with Vodafone for the past six years. Like a relationship it started out well. A year and a half ago I upgraded to an iPhone with a new contract. The relationship seemed better than ever, until a few months ago. First I thought it was nothing.... The sudden drop out, the delayed messages. Everyone goes through it right??? Well it don't stop, now I can't even make the shortest of call without the network dropping out. The constant change of mind- no service to full 3G service in less than 10 seconds, backwards and forwards. I'm losing my patience. I don't think this is working out.

6035 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Why should we have to pay for this crap??? at 28 Dec 2010 07:39:44 AM
I have been with Vodafone for around 12 months. I live on the Sunshine Coast just south of Noosa, when I went into the Vodafone store I was told that coverage on the coast was exceptional, I have now found otherwise! I didn't realise how bad it actually was I am trying to run a business from the number and never have reception and when voicemail messages are left sometimes dont come through for a day or two, not a good look for clients.

6033 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Poor and slow network at 28 Dec 2010 07:38:07 AM
My major complaint is the paucity of the network coverage. I'm a long term user of vodafone and value the service generally. For many years now the Vodafone shops have been promising much better coverage, extended service and most recently the linkage with Hutchinson promised coverage equivalent if not better than Telstra. It has not occurred!! Coverage is appalling.

Data sessions are dropped frequently in the Heathmont area to the point of frustration. One moment the USB modem is connected, the next I'm completely disconnected from the data network. My modem works well in most other locations, so it's just another issue to look into.

6026 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is MASSIVE FAIL at 28 Dec 2010 07:34:18 AM
OMG I thought It was just me, or my crap computer... I signed up for a Mobile Internet Plan last Easter, chosing Vodaphone because they had the best prices. I was going away for a week and I needed mobile internet to continue to work during that week. I was assured that I would have 3g coverage in the area I was going to in country Victoria, in a rural city.
This was not the case and after a few days when I finally got some coverage it was so slow I gave up and used a dial up internet.
But hey it was just a week, I would be back in Brisbane soon and then I figured it would still come in handy.
FAIL. I live in Northgate, close the the Brisbane Airport and only 10km from the Brisbane city center. On the intermittent occasions I do get reception it is only 1 bar and it is often just 2g network which is slower than a dial up connection.
I still have a few months left on the contract, I didn't think there was anything I could do and it's only a $30 a month plan. I had a small moment of victory when I went into the shop I bought it from to complain and told every customer in that store that the reception is horrible so don't do it :D
It makes me happy to find this site
Thank you and good luck with the class action to those involved.

6023 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Regular data drop-outs at 28 Dec 2010 07:33:05 AM
About 6 months ago I was a happy customer with 3, until one of their changes put me into a black spot. I rang 3 multiple times until they at last admitted that it was their problem. They offered to swap me over to the comparable Vodafone plan free of charge, which I accepted. They claimed Vodafone coverage was perfect in my area Prospect (inner Adelaide metro area). But after signing up, it soon became apparent that Vodafone data service was patchy (regular drop-outs). I have become so used to these drop-outs that I have a command prompt window open with a command continually pinging the web ('ping /t <site>'). From this I can verify that a regular drop-out has occurred. I also know where the best signal in the house is and can only use the laptop there!

6022 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Deplorable Service (3G) and Billing at 28 Dec 2010 07:32:25 AM
3G Service (Coverage/Connection): Connection ALWAYS drops out... I always have to disconnect and reconnect repeatedly... time-consuming and very frustrating...

Customer Service: A CALL TO VODAFONE TAKES A WHOLE HOUR!! HOLD TIME TO GET ANYONE IS ALWAYS 20+ MINUTES!! Then you have to wait another 10-20 minutes in order to get the RIGHT someone!! I have problems but don't have the time to sit on the phone 20 minutes to finally get someone!

Billing: I ordered the service in September 2010 and never received a bill. In 3 months, NOTHING... I kept trying to view my statement online, but the feature wasn't working. I wanted to wait for something from Vodafone because I didn't want to pay for a call and sit there for an hour waiting for resolution - I just don't have that kind of time. I had begun to assume that bills came out quarterly UNTIL THE SERVICE WAS DISCONNECTED for seemingly no reason. Then I tried to call for 4 days in a row to find out what was going on and connection to the call center from Adelaide was down... I had assumed that the lack of service was because of a massive network failure. I then got through, after a week, paid the balance I was told over the phone with the late charges waved, to have a bill FINALLY COME THREE WEEKS THAT INCLUDED $50 of LATE FEES!!! I don't agree with it, but I paid it... who would I call and what would it solve?

6021 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is call failed again at 28 Dec 2010 07:31:42 AM
I live 5kms from the city and my reception has fallen to an all time low. I have the 'call failed' message so many times now that I could just throw my iphone in to the bay! I complained to Vodafone that reception in my area had all but disappeared, but to no avail. Also just as infuriating is that every other server has improved their reception reach except for Vodafone. I can be just one hour out of Melbourne and have NO reception at all while friends on Telstra have full bars in the same place. Vodafone promised that they were going to have equal if not greater coverage than their competitors. They have not expanded for more than ten years.

6020 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Sick mof very poor reception at 28 Dec 2010 07:31:21 AM
I've been with Vodafone for several years now and never had much problem until about 12 months ago. Now the best reception I can get in my home in central Geelong is 1 or 2 bars, and as soon as you leave a metropolitan area you get nothing!! We have lots of family in the country and enjoy holidaying down the coast, and we have had to learn to give our relatives the phone number of someone we're staying with if they need to conact us. We are in Warracknabeal at the moment which is a reasonable sized country down but still nothing, and the people we're staying with are shocked as this is the first network they've heard of that doesn't work here. And I distinctly remember asking the salesgirl when I signed up for my new plan about coverage and she said it wouldn't be a problem. And that's just my mobile phone, don't even get me started on the piece of crap that is Vodafone mobile broadband.....the worst thing imaginable!! So glad this site exisits and hopefully it will make Vodaphone pull their finger out and do something before they lose a hell of a lots of very disgruntled customers!

I live within a three kilometre radius of my parents within the same postcode but get no service at my parents, I phoned vodaphone on the 25/12 as I was sick of it only to have the call centre staff tell me there is nothing he can do about it. This was after I had phoned the second time and was on hold for half an hour before speaking with some one.....IN INDIA!! it was lovely to find out he has perfect 3g vodaphone coverage!! I have now refered my complaint to the Telecommunications Ombudsmen I'm tired of paying top dollar for a sub standard service.

6016 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is abhorrent at 28 Dec 2010 07:27:32 AM
Vodafone,
Your network is in serious need of an overhaul, your customer service is abysmally disgusting and your excuses and apologies are offensive. This should have been fixed months ago.

You need to get off your metaphorical backsides and do all you can to fix it. You need to come clean with exactly what is wrong with your network, how you intend to fix it and how long it will actually take to fix it (none of this 'we think it will take...' banter, we've already had enough of that).

It's clear that the problems you are having with your network are not software problems. Before anything is rolled out to a production system, it should be tested and tested and tested, then tested again for good measure. I find it hilarious, but at the same time frighteningly disturbing that a 'software fault' was able to cause these problems. I find it disturbing that it has taken so long for it to be fixed, and even when you claim the problem has been fixed, a large number of your customers still say it has not been fixed.

You need to dump any off-shore customer call centres you have and start employing Australian people in Australian based call centres. The customer service you are currently providing (or lack there of) is pitiful. You knew that there was a problem, yet the customer service 'representatives' that you employ off-shore still read from the script they have been provided and really didn't give a rodent's backside whether the issue was known or not. "Yes, I have turned my phone on and off. Yes, I have reset my phone. Yes, I have tried another SIM card. Yes, I have tried another phone." Sound familiar? They were retroactive and not proactive, which has destroyed your image. Customer Service is everything. I don't own a business and yet I know this basic principle, something which you need to be educated on. There is no point in selling a product if you can't even back it up.

You need to stop making excuses and claims that you're "working on it". We are sick and tired of it. These excuses and lies are inflicting untold and widespread damage to your brand, image and reputation: all of the media coverage, social networking coverage and this website on this issue are undeniable examples of this fact.

I was once in high regard of Vodafone but after witnessing and being subject to your disregard with your customers and service, you are not even an after-thought, I actively discourage anyone from signing with you because of these problems, even on a pre-paid based service, you're just not worth it. Customers will pay more for a service that works! I can tell you now, your current behaviour and attitude will not fix things, you will only exacerbate the vast damage that is being inflicted to your image (and later on down the track, profits, as that all that seems to matter to Vodafone).

Case-in-point, despite all of the customer complaints of poor service and poor customer service (because of capacity issues, one would assume considering the problems described by others are further reaching than a 'software fault'), you still decided to go ahead and aggressively market your 'Infinite cap' plans. Now, if you're suffering from capacity issues (that is not enough hose for the water you're trying to deliver, so to speak, since it seems you need to be educated on this), won't the rolling out of these plans make the problem worse?

Use logic, Vodafone, seriously! Fix your network first! Like I said, there is no point in selling a product if you can't support it. In fact, it's driving your customers away, and placing you in bad stead with the ACCC, the TIO and future customers because they're seeing all of this negative publicity.

I've had enough. I'm off to Telstra. Paying more for a service that works is a bloody sight better than what a joke of a service you are offering. I gather many feel the same.

And that is putting it nicely.
30 Dec 2010 07:42:39 PM: Well said and i echo you thoughts too, as do many of us up here in the Hunter Valley in NSW, the service is just SHIT, no other word for it... And like you i will be changing to Telstra in the new year... Good on you Vodafone, telsta love you, all the way to the bank....
2 Jan 2011 06:22:55 AM: Well said.If my small business were to get paid for not providing services while agressively seeking more customers to not provide them with services and charge them, I wouldbe prosecuted.
5 Jan 2011 09:30:03 PM: Thats a bit harsh, they have acknowledged there are problems and as a result are busy recruiting thousands of people to do an audit of the systems failures.Any idea what such an audit would cost them?
5 Jan 2011 09:31:54 PM: Its free, theyve conned the gullible sustomers into keeping logs...days,dates,times,location,tyopes of failures!
7 Jan 2011 02:39:05 PM: My bestie worked for VP in their tech department - building/fixing networks etc.... has done for 14yrs. He has always supported VP... UNTIL NOW! or until mid last year. He thinks they are a joke. He says they don't listen to what the IT techs say is needed. They refuse to admit they have no idea re the problems. He says resetting, new Sims etc are a joke and they do it so it appears they are "doing something" He now uses Telstra. And he has left VP.
I changed from "3" to VP because "3" had coverage and customer service issues only to discover VP has bought "3" and they too have coverage and customer service issues. They wont let me out of my contract and I am forced to suffer at the hands of their incapabilities. I have 12 months left on my contract and it cant come soon enough! What a waste of money, time and effort!
9 Jan 2011 02:59:05 PM: whos VP???? lol
9 Jan 2011 04:33:10 PM: Haha lol, u are so funny, a comic genius, my sides are hurting
10 Jan 2011 09:53:07 AM: To play Devil's Advocate for a moment - if the call centres were to be moved back onshore, running costs for the customer service staff would triple. That's around 2000-3000 staff per week to multiply it by (just added that in for scope). This affects prices of plans, ability to expand/maintain networks, and overall revenue to invest money back into the company.

As you can guess, I used to work for VF. The culture there was always amazing, more pre-merger. Nigel Dews, CEO, always pushed employees to do the right thing, for customer experience. It just so happens that they're not very good at it. It seems that once a Telco hits X number of customers, it becomes unmanagable. The shame of it is that none of the Telcos are good on a mass scale. Telstra has great coverage, but it's expensive and provides poor customer service (even from an industry level). Optus is mid-range, fairly much across the board. VF is the most competitive price-wise, which has overloaded their network with people wanting a good deal, and it's why you spend X hours getting your issues resolved.

I left VF because I couldn't deliver promises to customers any more. I couldn't sell products and keep my integrity. You're never going to please everyone, but there should be balance.

In a nutshell, if you don't like the service you're getting, use your consumer sovereignty and don't re-sign with them.
23 Jan 2011 08:27:18 PM: Forget theNUTSHELL and the not resigning crap, go to tio, get out of your contract and move on to bigger and better things now. I did, piece of cake, I am pleased

6 months ago I paid $150 for a Vodafail prepaid wireless broadband dongle (12GB of data/12 months to use). I have never seen the reception meter showing more than 3 out of five 'bars' of service while my prepaid mobile sits beside my computer with full service coverage. I have been on xmas holidays since 17-12-10 and have managed to connect to the net during my holiday perhaps once per every 50 attempts, but when I do finally connect the service drops out before I can open a web page (using a friend's Optus broadband to write this). Of course I contacted customer support and spoke to some arrogant guy sitting in a call centre in India who informs me that the service has suffered some congestion over the xmas period and I should try to be patient. Customer service? I would love to join a class action against Vodafone, WHERE THE HELL DO I SIGN?

I worked for Vodafone and leant how to deal with all the problems but I had trouble with the ethics they used. They have known that from as long as the company has been operating in Australia they had problems with their communication towers but not let the customer know this, this was brought up regularly at meeting and how to through off the customer. Sad things where Customers who brought the latest phone then moved to a place that telestra and optus had reception but these poor customers where locked into a contract, where they had no reception. Now that Vodafone are 3 have joined forces more problems are going to had. Vodafone and 3 having been the same company more more than 12 months now.I was also Sad by how they forced people not to buy one phone over another ect,, And Insurance which was a con..

Significant data issues where there is just no coverage at all, worst of all my phone keeps slipping into "No Service" mode constantly.... absolutely shocking customer service and even though i have always tried to avoid it that big T might just get my ongoing business come contract cancellation time!!

Until today I thought delayed voicemail, no coverage in shopping centers, multiple failed mms', failed txt balance updates etc were all normal parts of the Vodafone service. I can't believe how used to these problems I had become! I guess it's just easier to accept them than to ring their call center to have the problems resolved. They are utterly hopeless.

5998 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is A HUGE FAILURE at 28 Dec 2010 07:20:28 AM
I have been having network coverage issues for over 4 months now. It doe not matter where I am -I am without coverage 99% of the time. My text messages and voice mail messages are delayed sometimes by over 24hours.
My mobile is so important to me as I have a young daughter and I also atend dialysis daily. So many times the nursing staff have tried to conatct me on my mobile and it goes straight to message bank -and I do not recieve the message in time. While I am on dialysis my daughter attends vacation care, what if they needed to conatct me .....they cannot reach me because I have no network coverage. My mobile phone is also important as I could recieve the most important phone call ever to say they have a new kidney for me. So as you can see my mobile is so necessary for me.
I have rang Vodafone numerous times, many times I have had to hang up after waiting on hold for over 40mins. When I do speak to an operator they tell me me to -restore factory settings and select manual (under settings/network)and they say this should fix the problem, if not ring back in 24 hours. I ring back in 24 hours and they want to do exactly the same fix that we did yesterday. I try to tell them that we did this yesterday -so then they tell me to swap sim cards over and it could be the phone that is the problem not Vodafone.I have asked about exiting my contract early without a fee and they will not do it.....I am realy desperate. Any help would be great.

I switched from 3 to Vodafone a few weeks ago due to being told how much better Vodafone is and that they have much better support. Well so far, I've only seen the opposite..! I can't get full reception (max of 2 bars) unless I am in the city, Internet browsing is compatible to dial-up speeds and the online services can't even tell me my useage..!
I want to get out; this has been a fail of epic proportions.

why are vodafone and others allowed to advertise that they have 95% coverage of australia instead of being forced to tell you and give you a map of where they dont have coverage? On a recent trip to cobar, bourke, brewarinna and coonamble,I had no service at all! thats a bloody big area! All the locals knew there was no service out once you pass Dubbo,Why is this not advertised? I then could not use a $40 PRE-PAID as my phone is locked to the network, that is bordering on criminal and denies me my right to a working service!
28 Dec 2010 09:57:43 AM: get you phone unlocked! By law, they have to unlock it if you choose. I got mine unlocked by a Pakistani with a center aisle booth in a shopping centre, who sold phone accessories. He charged me $20 and no I can use ANYBODY'S card

I have a iPhone 3GS & since havign it, I have struggled to get reception. Every call i make drops out & the phone is constantly searching for a network! On the 1st (27/11) of 4 phone calls to my "supposed service provider" i was told that the problem would be investigated & someone would be in touch & i received a text stating the same thing - then nothing! I rang for the last time 2 weeks ago only to be told that it had been investigated & the case was now closed & here's the best bit - apparently "someone" from vodafone had rang me & told me the outcome. Finally after being bounced around from department to department, Vodafone admitted there are "blackout" problems with the area i live in so i was offered to change plans (to their new infinate plan) given the next 2 mths plan fee free & told that after christmas eveything will be so much better because they are currently "improving" the strength of coverage ... well its after christmas & guess what? ... nothing has changed!

My wife an I both have vodafone accounts and we share a wirelss broadband again with Vodafone. Our wireless broadband is painfully slow and has not worked at all for six weeks. We now use our i-Phone for internet. My calls to Vodafone customer service have degenerated into shouting matches when the services representative tells me we have excellent coverage. It does not. We now refuse to pay our broadband account and will be happy to see them in court. I am now on holidays 200km west of melbourne and have absoulutely no phone reception while my sister who has Telstra gets better service than when I'm home in Geelong. Vodafon are a nightmare!

We unfortunately have 3 as our ISP and it runs terribly. As for Vodafone I have had the usual drop outs etc and after contacting the TIO received a call from a Vodafone rep and was told that they were unaware of any issues with the network(they must think I'm an idiot) they also tried to tell me that it is a software issue with my handset, if that is the case why do other people I know with different brands of phone have exactly the same problem. Why can't Vodafone just admit they have problems and stop telling blatant lies to their customers. By the way they have sent me an email asking me to tell them what the issues were. They should already know! I feel this is just a delaying tactic to stop people leaving in droves which I would if there were no penalties such as having to return my handset.

Vodafone has the gall to form a social networking team to spread lies and rumours about other network providers and the operator of this site.

That's a slap in the face of your upset customers Vodafone.

Why do you need to reinforce your lying, cheating, substandard ways? Perhaps these young savvy people can be put to better use by actually helping.

I would be happy to provide examples of Vodafones mischievous behaviour from this site and others.

My bother-in-law passed away and the family tried to call not knowing my problems with coverage so they left a message which I didn't received until the day after away he passed away! My daughter had a miscarriage while I was holidaying in Lorne and I didn't get the message until I was on the highway back to Melbourne. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER VODAFONE!!!!!!!!!! I will not be staying with this carrier once my plan has expired unless drastic measure are taken to solve this issue!!! Coming from 3 onto Vodafone, I expected to receive the same coverage in Brisbane as I received on 3 with the bonus of getting reception outside the city as I travel to rural areas frequently.

I did not expect to receive no recpetion whatsoever at my workplace in Chapel Hill, or have mobile internet so slow, that every thing I try to use on my iPhone 4 just times out. Even at home when standing in the same spot, my reception goes from 3 bars of 3G, to no 3G as soon as I try to access something.

I can't believe when you sign up, they tell you everywhere is covered. CRAP!

I have been with vodafone for over 10 years, since I purchased my first mobile. Over the past 18 months I have notioced a decline in coverage and service. When calling the so helpful "customer Service Desk" to explain my concerns I was told "I live in a well covered area in Sydney". How can this be when my phone drops out at least 50% of the time and constantly cuts in and out of service in my house without moving the phone. In my opinion, mobile phones have come along way with the use of technology, people are not only using them for making calls but internet use as well and this use of data must have some effect on vodafones own capability.
Why then is Vodafone still recruiting customers when they can't support their existing customers. I've had enough of their lack of service, lousy and unreliable reception they offer. I'll be switching companies at the end of my contract if I don't get out of it beforehand.

5971 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is No reception; no customer service. at 28 Dec 2010 07:04:26 AM
For nearly two years now I have suffered at the hands of Vodafone. I had been using Vodafone for a long time without too many problems, so I decided to get a new phone with them on a $29 cap contract (over 2 years), as the $29 caps had been doing me fine previously. Within a short couple of months of signing that contract Vodafone changed networks, and I was in dire straits. With the frustration of next-to-no reception and constant dropped calls, I feel that they were in breach of contract, as the contract I signed was for the previous network. I have attempted numerous times to sort out this problem. To cut a long story, the final straw was to be told that I could not contact the appropriate people by email, I had to phone them. They could not transfer me, I had to phone them! I tried to point out the irony: How can I phone them when I have no reception and/or the calls simply drop out? Their reply was, "Yes, I understand, but that is the only way we can help you." How much I loathe that "I understand"! I have now given up and am waiting for January 19 to finish the contract; it will be interesting to find out what their reaction is going to be when I demand that they unlock the phone because I am going elsewhere in the hope of receiving better customer service.

5963 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Premium Texts at 28 Dec 2010 07:01:39 AM
I have been recieving weather texts everyday (which are a premium service), and it costs me $10 per month. I have tried countless times to cancel these premium texts and I keep recieving them. I have tried to do this by calling the customer assistance number at least 20 times, and then I tried even going in store to cancel them. They told me that they cant do anything from the store, and that I need to call the customer assistance number. This has gone on for the last two years and I am still paying for and recieving texts I dont even want!
Also, the coverage is horrendous and the waiting times to get any kind of assistance over the phone are ridiculous (and when you do finally get onto someone, good luck if you can actually understand them)! Thank god I only have 5 months left on my contract, then it will be good riddance Vodafone!

5957 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is fail at 28 Dec 2010 06:58:39 AM
I was happily with 3 for ages, no problems, then signed up to vodaphone for a combo phone internet plan - I was told they are merging, and if there were any dramas it would be ok. with vodafone internet kept dropping out (nearly missed an ebay purchase haha). many calls later, often on hold 20-35 mins, and often calls dropping out, they eventually agreed to release me from the plan on condition i signed back up with 3, returned the phone etc. Also in early days I sent internet key back thinking that might be the problem (no charge) and it checked out ok by their people, but they had that for a week and no replacement in the meantime. I was lucky bcs I still had an internet plan with 3 at the time, which never dropped out. So initially when vodafone wanted to 'investigate coverage' which they said could take 6 days I argued against this. they said their computer or whatever showed good coverage in my area. I think it was only because of my 'proof' with the 3 internet working fine and the vodafone one constantly dropping out, that they agreed to release me. I emphasised to them I wasn't trying to get out of being their customer or pay a lesser plan, I just wanted to switch back to 3, afterall they were merging so what was the problem??? sigh. lots of time wasted on calls to sort this out. btw got sick of Rob Thomas when on hold. ALSO to end it off, they then charged me for the full plan (got a bill for $1500) because they had no record of receiving the phone back yet, so that took quite a few more calls to sort out. i realised i had nothing in writing to prove they had agreed (over the phone) to release me. hey vodafail, keep up the good work!

Haven't been able to hear and properly recieve phonecalls, and inevitably drops out after a couple of minutes if a call miraculously gets through. Takes 20 odd shots to log into facebook, packet data not being available or phone generally shitting itself. Girlfriend holidaying in India still hasn't recieved my txts (sent from my end 12 hrs ago)...and thats just the phone dramas. I used the vf Internet usb dongle for a couple of years in Cloverdale getting no more than 2 bars 3g reception, usually gprs and getting disconnected all the time. Bills seem extraordinary each month too. I send many texts and hit up facebook most days, assuming I am not alone and each mnthly bill is always upwards of 180 dollars...cap shmap, I want off the plan asap. Oh, I also recieved a bill from vf for upwards of 7000 dollars in 2009. I put my plan sim into the usb dongle experimentally and incurred the massive bill after 2 weeks. The fellow on the phone calmly and in a hard to understand language, told me 5500 had to be paid within 2 weeks..!!...Long story short, I called bogus on vf via the telecommunications ombudsman and their resolution centre and got the bill cut down to a more palatable 500 on the grounds of miscommunication on their behalf. Overall vf experience over 2 years = F****D!

5948 Someone from TAS thinks vodafone is Shockingly bad at 28 Dec 2010 06:51:00 AM
I moved from Sydney to Legana just outside of Launceston in July. I have NO reception where I live. None, zip, zero. It's not like I'm out in the middle of the country either. If I drive up to the Legana shopping centre, I still have no reception, I don't get reception until I am almost in Launceston itself, and then it drops out in a lot of places in Launceston. I am in the middle of a 2 year contract, although I've been with Vodafone for over a decade. They want me to pay $120 for every month since I moved here and in that time I have been able to send and receive a few text messages over the full month whilst in town, and to make a couple of phone calls. When I have rung up to complain it is near impossible to slice through the layers of computerised help to speak to a person, and when I do speak to people, they are of no help, but make "a note in my file" which translates to nothing as the next time I call, there is no information available to the next person about my issues. I cannot use my phone, this is a joke! I am trying to set up a business and I do not have the use of my mobile phone. Now I can't use it at all as I refuse to keep paying huge bills for no service. They can't call me to discuss it, because I have no reception, and they can't reach me. You'd think they'd realise there's a bit of an issue when they can't even ring you to talk to you due to your constant lack of reception. I guess my next step is to go to the Ombudsman. EPIC FAIL Vodafone.
28 Dec 2010 06:05:44 PM: So i am unsure how Voda could now you were going to move somewhere with no coverage when you signed up 12 months before you moved ? A little bit of personal responsability goews a long way, Had you of lost coverage at your Sydney address then i think you would have fair reason to complain, But you move mid contract and expect out ? Also if you know they cant contact you on your mobile logic says you would give them another contact number rather than set them up to fail... ???

5945 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Frustrating at 28 Dec 2010 06:49:47 AM
I live in Adelaide's North Eastern suburbs and switched to Vodafone about 14 months ago after being a Telstra customer of over 18 years. Took out a $124 plan which included mobile internet (via USB modem). Having switched to Vodafone my wife also takes a $30 prep paid plan also.

I'll say from the outset that the Technical service received has been excellent - much better than Telstra but the phone and internet coverage, particularly in my area has been very disappointing. Running a small business from home, I find that I cannot have a decent conversation without fear of dropping out (which usually happens). I've actually given up on the trying to get reliable coverage through the USB modem and put it down as a bad investment!

I sent an email to Vodafone reporting the problem and seeking some advice of proposed system upgrades which may improve these services, particularly in my area. To their credit, I received a reply within 24 hours stating that there were no planned upgrades to these services - which means one of two things. Either I will attempt to opt out of my plan and switch back to Telstra or Optus or, if this is not possible, wait until it expires in October 2011 and put up with the the poor frustrating service.

This is a pity because I have found Vodafones customer service to be 100 times better than that of Telstra, but Telsra's reliability is 100 times better than Vodafones - even though you have to pay through the nose for it!

I bet that Telstra are rubbing their hands wathcing this whole episode unravel.

I have missed important medical appointments from failed voicemail messages that I have not been able to listen to / retrieve.
Takes upto 3-5 days to retrieve messages both voice and text.
I have been kept on hold for upto 1 hour 3 different times in one day regarding a phone bill that I have paid, I have the receipt with a receipt number, but the operator did not want to know that, he wanted to argue I hadn't paid the bill. I am still waiting for a hard copy to be posted to me and prove that I have paid for that bill.
I also find their billing system pathetic; why they have to send it in an email is beyond me.
Service drop out is ridiculous: I have hardly any coverage at all;
The last time I spoke to Vodafone about all my issues, I told them I would be looking to change carrier, he wasn't too fussed - told me to have a nice day. This is not customer service.

Despite Vodafone advertising that they had 3G reception in the areas I used it, the reception was so poor, and the experience so frustrating, that I recently switched to Telstra even though I knew I would still have to pay off my Vodafone plan. In fact, it pissed me off so much I have signed up for the Piper Alderman class action after just hearing about it on ABC News Breakfast. Check it out here: http://www.piperalderman.com.au/vf/

As a happy I left before it went to crap ex Vodafone Australia staff, so prior the Vodafone Hutchison Australia debacle... I feel for all the customer we once served and provided an excellent AU based customer service led organization.

At the end of the day after the merger of Vodafone and 3 there is only 1 director remaining, Dave 'Brutus' Boorman. The current 'VHA' ,a left over 85% 3 Management led company, is destroying a global legacy of innovation.

I would suggest that the Vodafone plans released prior the merger of a 900 and 2100 network were working and sound, the '3' mentality of knowing better than Vodafone globally, instead they went with 850 as well, with 900 and 2100, Michael 'SMS' Young should stand up and be proud.

It is a shame that Nigel 'SMS2' Dews decided to rid the organization of all of the 'professional' telecoms people and instead leave with the 'Hillsong' and 'car salesmen'...

I would suggest that is another organization that might want to investigate the dealings of the general management for some 'interesting' and questionable business practices.

5932 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Excruciating at 28 Dec 2010 06:44:17 AM
I simply cannot bear ONE MORE MINUTE of this - Vodafone has had a HUGELY detrimental effect on my personal and business life. Every phone call I make drops out at least 2-4 times per call. Sometimes I have to wait 30 minutes or more in between calls between I can even get a signal. 'No Service' is now more typical than ANY reception. Internet drops out around every 20-30 seconds. It's dropped out 3 times while I've been trying to submit this posting alone - unbelievable. I can't get ANYTHING done. It's excruciating and I just can't believe it's been going on so long, with no resolution. I am fit to scream.

5931 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Vodafone is Pathetic at 28 Dec 2010 06:43:58 AM
We have been with Vodafone for years and now I think about the service and reception has always been a problem. I will be at work waiting for staff to get back to me about replacing shifts and my phone coverage will just drop out. hours later i realise when it comes back because the phone doesnt stop ringing with messages and emails. It is even worse in the rain as soon as it rains don't expect any reception. The year we had floods i tried to call my BF (who is with Vodafone as well) with an emergency and could not get through because their is no coverage in crap weather. Lucky his parents mobiles are Telstra which worked fine. not to mention we have been trying to upgrade our pathetic phones for a couple of months now because they no longer work and we had to wait until exactly 3 months left to do so without paying out a contract. They would not even let us upgrade one week before when i went in and showed them how bad my phone was (I can't even see who calls me anymore). We have decided enough is enough with vodafone and we are in the process of changing to Telstra and getting out of our contracts. You might pay more with Telstra but at least if you have an emergency you can count on their reception. So frustrated 6 years with this company and they have gotten worse every year and no one ever wants to help :(

Vodafone fail, again.
4.30 - 6.30am (could still be non-running but I'm on my desktop)
Bondi beach.
No Wireless Coverage.
Not exactly a high usage time.

It's not so much the loss of revenue for me, but the annoyance, frustration and lack of confidence I'm getting for mobile browsing all together.

I'd like to research and learn when sitting watching my baby, but alas, I just get frustrated as my iPhone is completely useless!

I'd suggest any CEO should forfeit their bonuses for such a disgraceful service.

I've been a Vodafone customer for awhile but endured the incredibly poor reception because the 'big' telco ahd annoyed me so I switched. I thought the poor reception and dropping out was due to me living in Darwin, but believed I would be rewarded with crystal clear and prompt everything when I moved to Queensland. No dice. If I'm in a building? fat chance of making a call....Now I'm just waiting for my plan to run down so i can switch to Optus.

5918 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is extremely sad at 28 Dec 2010 06:36:53 AM
i have been a vodafone customer since 2000, and just six months ago i received a call for an upgrade to a iphone and a 24months contract, since then the problem started and i wish i didnt.I have call them alot off times to discuss the problem but nothing gets resolve at the end of the calls.
The first two months into my contract i was hit hard with $$$$ and it never stop there, everymonth it goes up.
I signed up for $79. but i get charged more than that, for some crazy recent, i have given up calling them....
Extremly poor reception text sent late and arrives late and i am to scared to use my phone for anything else because i am already paying to much for just using it for text and phone call so if i try to go online and mms how much more will it cost me and i have no idea why and im now locked in with this contract that i got coned into, which im not happy about.
even though i get crap reception i still pay my bill ontime because i am to scared they might put extra $$$$$s ontop of it again.
before i make a call overseas i check my balance to see how much is there and time myself, i feel as if im a victim to myself?
I feel that they are only interested in getting the money every month and dont care what the customer says and or feels?
please so something about it..

The question was asked when signing up "I have heard about bad signal/coverage with Vodafone and has this improved?" The reply was "YES". I can assure any new customers of Vodafone that this is not the case. The phone was purchased from Vodafone for our teenage daughter so that she could contact us in an emergency and vice versa, she is not even able to get a signal in her own home. We live in Cairns, Far North Queensland. Myself and my husband have our mobile phones with Telstra and have NEVER EVER had signal problems.

Vodafone has been unreliable over the last moths. particularly the 3g network. Loss of signal on a continual basis. with this poor performance of the the 3g network the data has been very bad. Slow, un reliable are the best descriptions. Anything on 3 g has been bad. Having to flip over to 2g is not the answer but at least the calls dont drop out as much and SMS gets through.

5905 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is vodafails in rural areas at 28 Dec 2010 06:30:40 AM
I've signed up for vodafone on a 24 month phone contract, and also had vodafone broadband. Firstly, the broadband coverage is lousy, dreadfully slow and painful to say the least. Out of frustration I've gone to a prepaid telstra mobile broadband and that gets coverage virtually everywhere I travel, and is very fast - but this is not acceptable of vodafone's service. I've paid for service and fail to get it reliably, even in major towns like wagga dubbo and orange NSW.
The contract for the phone is what really angers me. Whilst watching cricket with huge vodafone sponsorship blazed all over it, I'm locked into a contract for service which is very limited in coverage even around town, and frequently has dropouts and service shutdowns. To actually get onto someone human in their 1555 help service is near impossible, and takes so long that most times I've just hung up in disgust. I have 4 sons, and I don't trust vodafone to provide coverage, which is non-existant anyhow between towns, whereas Telstra NextG seems to give coverage anywhere (but is more expensive), so I provide them with Telstra prepaids as vodafone I can't trust for their safety. However you only have to barely venture outside town limits and vodafone is gone, and this is crazy.

I live in Sydney and use my phone for work and have too many times to count not been able to send txt messages, received voicemails one or two days late. Calls drop out or reception is poor right across Sydney.
I have IPhone and the data delivery is a joke. I resent payng $74 a month and being locked into a contract with these people
Only saving is work have now given me a Blackberry from Telstra - which works perfectly.

5902 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is FAIL at 28 Dec 2010 06:29:13 AM
I got a month to month plan with vodafone just to try out the service, for some reason i have never had reception issues what so ever, i have a blackberry however which is only 2G, I think people expect way too much from their phones these days, dead set go back to basics and purchase something more practical! all these wankers out there that want and expect their phones to do so much, they are for calls and txt! not fucking internet and facebook, get a life! REWIND 5 yrs I say!!!

One thing that did shit me however is vodafones billing service, I cancelled that plan months ago and continue to get bills, I had a bill in credit and yet to recieve a cheque for $75

I think vodafone should spend more money on their call centres, network towers, coverage maps rather then V8 supercars, F1 and cricket!

Get your shit together!
28 Dec 2010 06:34:40 AM: My issue IS BASICS! Crap reception, or none between rural towns. Constant call dropouts, having to turn off then on the phone to get voda reception and on it goes. All this is capped by call centres which keep you on hold for 20 mins or more, and have operators that barely understand and certainly rarely sympathise with your problems or issues or fix them completely when they do. I'm only on a basic phone, and all I want is reliable coverage and operation. I don't trust vodafail for my kids phones, they all have telstra NextG and frequently have perfect coverage where I have none.
28 Dec 2010 10:46:20 AM: your not an educated person are you? People are only wanting what they have paid for.if you walked into a shop and asked for a milkshake and were handed a glass of water would you pay for it.Wake up to yourself mate

5898 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is I HATE VODAFONE! at 28 Dec 2010 06:28:01 AM
I went with vodafone about a year ago and after 3 months of having no reception even in the middle of a city of 70000 people and being charged extra for things I had no idea about I tried to cancel my plan, it took me a month but they finally cancelled it...well I thought so until they started taking money off my credit card every month without my permission. I called up again and they said it hadn't been cancelled properly and said they would refund the amounts they had withdrawn. So another 2 months later I still hadn't received a refund so I called up yet again and finally they sent through a refund...for only half what they owed me but I was over being on hold for 2 hours while they 'checked my account' so I left it. Then last week I get a letter saying I owe them money!! I called again and was put on hold for over an hour at which stage I had to hang up. I guess I will just have to try again this week but I HATE VODAFONE!

I find it very difficult to recieve reception in large towns and to keep reception.- When I do find some reception the call drop outs are frequent. I have to turn my phone on and off to recieve reception back when I havent moved! I have been shopping and heard a phone salesman use "vodafone has excellent reception" WHAT!!! Soon set him straight to prevent further people falling into the trap. Also the insurance is a joke with noone I know getting their phone fixed withour having to pay a large amount. And having to pay postage to get something that broke inside of warranty terms has got to be illegal.

5887 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Voda network seriously poor and has never delivered as promised. at 28 Dec 2010 06:24:50 AM
As a business user, I left Optus because we lost our local account manager. I switched to Vodafone because a Voda agent (local) promised us we'd always have local support if we had problems. This is has ALWAYS been the case. This has been almost three years. Thanks Red Mercury.

To those complaining about specific phones (particularly iPhones) their poor reception and antennas is well documented. It is your fault. I also chose a phone that delivers poor reception in my home. The good ol' Nokias power on. Suggestion is research the antenna and transmission power.

Now the buckets: the promised expansion to the actual VODA network and increased data speeds have never eventuated. I thought it would be OK as I'm not normally "too far" away from what I believe to be metro or reasonable regional locations.

Data speeds for wireless internet access in Sydney are rarely HSDPA (normally 3G only) and one of the worst locations is the airport (where you really need it). Coverage in Newcastle NSW was hopeless and we're talking one of Australia's largest cities.

What burned me most (as I do travel extensively) was a total lack of coverage (on both phones) at Heathcote in Victoria, a significant regional town in a significant regional area (Bendigo). Heathcote is not much more than 100km from Melbourne, yet reception is only picked around Lancefield.

Forget it if you want to go down the Yorke Peninsula (SA) once you're past Ardrossan. Point to point across the water it is less then 70km so not hard to fire a signal straight across the water. Telstra doesn't seem to have problem getting down there.

Oh, and don't let me forget that Vodafone itself called me to try and poach the business away from their own agent that had supported our business well over the life of our contract. Shame on you vodafone.

We are just deciding what to do now... stay with Voda (for the beaut agent customer service) or take the plunge and go to Telstra for the superior coverage.

But like most here I HATE offshore call centres. So if I can get a local account manager, the decision is likely made.

I laughed at Vodafail site and thought what a great idea. I have been with "Vodafail" for years and the network has progressively become worse and worse.
The charges are enormous, we have near the most expensive networks in the world, massive call connection charge, where are the customer's rights?
From now on I will refer to this company as Vodafail until they fix their network.
