Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

I have spent HOURS on the phone to Vodafone in the last 2 months about the amount of call dropouts and poor coverage with my iphone. Last Saturday, a fellow from Vodafone phoned me and said the problem is a network issue and Vodafone will let me out of the contract if that's what I want. I told him that's what I want. He said I had to phone the store where I bought the phone to organise the disconnection including the return of the iphone handset. I phoned the store and they said only Vodafone deal with this issue and I have to phone Vodafone back. Since then, I have spent HOURS on the phone to Vodafone, on hold yet again. The last I heard was last Monday when Vodafone said they would phone me back in 24 to 72 hours to arrange for my disconnection. That call didn't arrive until today. The phone rang twice. I answered it and as soon as I did, the phone dropped out. What a surprise... not. Then I got an SMS from Vodafone saying they have tried to call me and I didn't answer my phone so phone on 1555 for further queries about my complaint. I phoned 1555 and was on hold for 20 minutes. I hung up. I then phoned their 1300 number and was on hold for another 25 minutes. I hung up.

HOW PATHETIC VODAFONE. NOT ONLY IS THEIR NETWORK TOTAL CRAP... BUT THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TOTALLY, TOTALLY NON-EXISTANT. I am totally, totally sick of Vadafone. And I am totally sick of being on hold to them trying to get my contract cancelled.

I SIGNED UP IN OCTOBER 2010 AND I AM SO OVER VODAFONE!!!

I'm a sales rep, so i need to be on the phone alot, but it's hard when your making a call, and for no reason the call drops out, with full signal strength, WTF, and trying to use the internet, i spend more time waiting for a page to load it's a joke, ans the other week i found out that i haven't been able to receive any picture msg, when i rang vodafail, i was on the phone for 2 hours, they did fix the problem, it wasn't the phone, it was something on there end, so thanks Vodafail for all the messages i have missed. And now to missed calls and voicemail, sometime my phone doesn't ring, and about 30 mins later i find out i have 3-4 missed calls, one hour later i have the voicemail arrives, sorry but thats to long. Why is it when i call to complain i can't talk anyone in Australia, the people from overseas are rude, and they try to make you feel like you are lying about your problem, or they rush you, the fact you just spent 30 mins on hold, your pissed off, because the same thing keeps happening, these people in the call centres, need to learn, 1) how to speak english 2) how to be understand what we Vodafail customer are going thur 4) how to fix the problem quickly.

Went into a v/f store a few weeks ago to enquire as to why I was not receiving a voicemail message.... The store calls customer care, they advise that the problem is all fixed. Fixed as in - they changed my plan, took all my credit (I recharged a $79 flexicap voucher 7 days ago) and when I called back (on hold for 45 mins), I was told that I had called and changed the plan according to the notes. WTF?

Look, I know its hard making millions of dollars ripping off people, but seriously, I have better things to do then spend hours on hold to an offshore call centre who seriously lacks any form of customer service standards.

I amazingly got through once to a pom who lives in Mumbai... I bet he gets no complaints at all... People would seriously be happy to speak to someone who has a good comand of the english language.

Pick up your act Vodafone, or Im seriously taking my business elsewhere.

Vodafone has to be one of the most frustrating companies to deal with and to be a customer of.

Customer "Care"? I've never felt any 'care' over the phone - sitting on hold for an hour was as long as I lasted before giving up to find an email address to air my complaints. That way at least I could communicate and make the most of my time whilst I waited for a response.

My billing appears incorrect and hadn't updated my 'best mate' number so that I could receive free calls, leading to over charging. Then I find out that after being a loyal customer for a number of years that I care not to remember, that if I signed up to day I would be receiving nearly double the value for the same amount of money. It would be nice of vodafone to reward customer loyalty by atleast offering them the latest deals instead of leaving the owness on us to find out what the latest plan value is and request to be changed accross to the new version of the exact same plan. Fortunately, they would let me transfer my plan.

Don't even let me get started on reception. I can't make a phone call from my bedroom. Enough said.

Can't wait until June when my contract expires.

I tried to call to cancel my mobile broadband When I finally got to speak to someone, I was told they couldn't look up my account with my name and address. I was going to complain, then I got hung up on. I called again with the SIM number and was on hold again, so I left my number to get someone to call me back. I finally spoke to someone who went through all my details, and then told me I had to speak to the cancellations department. I was put on hold for another 55 minutes, waiting to speak to the right department. When I finally got through I had to repeat everything again and then dodge repeated attempts to get me to stay with Vodafone. How about no.
27 Dec 2010 08:32:52 PM: Forgot to mention, cancelled mobile broadband because despite living in Fitzroy on the edge of Melbourne's CBD the reception was so bad I couldn't open emails except at like 2.30am (except on weekends when the network was busy then too). TERRIBLE.
28 Dec 2010 08:00:47 AM: Hi, Im doing a story on Vodaphone for ch 7 tonight. Would you please give me a call on 9697 7823? Thanks Lynda

5069 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Who else hates Lara???? at 27 Dec 2010 08:16:01 PM
I'm amazed at the decline in standards from Vodafone over the years. I joined 7 years ago on the old 'No Plans' and was always really happy - great customer service, reasonable coverage, good deals, competitive prices, and I used to get a present from them every year for my loyalty. I've since gone on to have capped plans for my phone and mobile broadband in the last 3 years, and don't have too many good things to say about the company anymore.

I get reasonable service on my mobile, but mobile broadband is a bit of a joke. Coverage is VERY limited - I've never had more than 2 bars or 'Poor' service. Not to mention it recently dropped out completely for about a fortnight. Right before exams. Thanks. The same thing happened to several of my friends at the same time.

The worst thing though is the customer service. I've never gotten through to the right person/department straight away when calling, and I've often had to call multiple numbers. Setting up my mobile broadband, I kept getting told the number I had called wasn't correct - despite using the number that was in the setup instruction booklet, or calling the number that the previous operator had told me to call.
Recently trying to upgrade my plan, I actually yelled at an operator. Not intentionally, but I let out a loud, stern "NO!" when the person that I had been transferred to to change the plan attempted to transfer me back to the department I had just been transferred from.
In another instance, when trying to find out what was going on with a mobile broadband error, I spent 20mins on the phone, just to have the operator repeat my problem back at me and tell me that myvodafone.com wasn't working. Which I had also mentioned to him (and which it pretty much never is anyway...)
These things are frustrating, inconvenient, and a waste of all of our time. I don't mind being put on hold or transferred if my problems are going to be fixed! I think vodafone customer service suffers from a severe case of micro-management - no one person ever seems to think the customer's problem or issue is their responsibility!

Grrr vodafone. Grrr.
27 Dec 2010 08:33:44 PM: same...joined vodafone in 2001 and they were great, have definitely noticed a decline in the last year or so.

Can't view my postpaid bills because website says my number is not registered with them! I've been logging in for one year and now suddenly it doesn't work! Why do I have to pay if I can't even view my bill? Customer service hanged up on me twice, after thirty minutes of being "on hold". I have an iPhone 3GS. Voicemail display service no longer works (used to list my voicemails on iPhone). My voicemails don't come through until at least a few hours later or even days later! Time on voicemail also wrong. I also experience call drop outs even when I may in populated suburbs/areas. I can't always call people - says "call failed" - even though the person I am calling has good reception. At my work, people on certain other networks have reception - not me. I have to quit Vodafone asap!

I have a Blackberry Storm. I've had it nearly a year. I used to get the odd CALL FAILED, but this has increased to, I'd say, 30% of all calls failing. I'm having to take the battery out at least once a day as I get this white screen with APP ERROR and have to reboot my phone. I spent over one hour on hold Christmas Eve, only to get through to some intellectual halfwit in Timbuktu, with a limited knowledge of the Queens English. He offered no solution whatsoever on how to fix my phone. I hate Vodafone and will be breaking my contract after seeking legal advice. Oh how I wish I stayed with Telstra.
27 Dec 2010 08:30:18 PM: You do realise the white screen and app error is actually a problem with your blackberry right? Better seek legal advice about them too

Vodafone fails on so many levels. Customer service (or lack there of) I am not sure why vodafone thinks their customers have endless amounts of time to sit on hold to the custer care number, and if you choose to email Vodafone rather than wate time you don't have on hold to them, there is a zero chance that they will resolve your issue by email. And the continuous drop outs of calls which is so infuriating, and extremely unprofessional when your on a business to call to have to call back often times more than once, the inability of apps to load and work makes makes it almost worthless having a smart phone. I can't send emails from my iPhone since October and Vodafone have still not rectified the issue. I look forwarbto my contract ending so I can switch to a better service provider.

After buying out 3 Mobile, Vodafone proceeded to supply me with dial-up speeds on my mobile broadband. Every time I rang-up they would put me through a range of tests, when all along they knew it was their crappy service. An apology is too late as I wasted almost 20 hours of time on hold with this crappy company. Get out fast!!!!

4963 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Worst telco on earth at 27 Dec 2010 07:49:10 PM
My mess is too long to write about but in short I have changed telco's as I am totally sick of vodafone & their complete contempt for their customers.
The problem I had revolved around a new phone that did not arrive so I requested a refund but Vodafone said I did not order one despite the money being taken from my C/C. After more than 10 hours total on the phone to a customer service person in India I handed the whole lot over to the Ombudsman & had my refund within 10 days. Vodafone offered me $100 credit as compensation but this was in the form of "extras" on my pre-paid account that I dont use anymore.
I will NEVER use Vodafone again nor will I recommend them to anybody in fact I would activley discourage anybody from using Vodafone if for no other reason than their complete lack of customer service.
I have dealt with a lot of companies in my life but Vodafone is the WORST for customer service & Lara is a complete waste of space!!
Years ago I was with Hutchinson Communications (crap) then with Orange (still crap) then with 3 (reasonable) & for anybody that dosent know they are all the same company rebadged each time. Vodafone bought Hutchinson (3) & now they are on the Vodafone network (complete & utter CRAP).

I complained at my store about the sudden failure of my wireless USB broadband and after the usual "oh it must be your computer settings" blame-the-customer game, the store manager finally confessed that it was Vodafone's infrastructure not being set up to cope with the demand and it was causing service failure all over the place. Meanwhile, they were happily signing up new customers in the store. I had to go and buy a Telstra prepaid unit just to keep my business running. I am stuck in a contract until May 2011 with my phone and also suffer the dropouts, the texts/pxts that arrive hours or even days after sending. Unable to get through to customer service of course - you get runaround the menu and then put on hold forever. They just do what they want, and it's the consumers' job to be the police.

4955 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is DISGRACE at 27 Dec 2010 07:46:25 PM
Hello all, 7 day ago i signed up on the $69 cap. This is used for my business.
Fortunately i didn't open the iPhone 4 they sent me. After being on hold for over an hour i finally got to speak to someone. After numerous transfers and , i made it clear that the service is not up to the required standard and that my business had suffered as a result of the continual drop out and bad reception issues. Initially they wanted a cancellation fee, but becuase i didn't open the box to the phone and because of my persistence, they said they will cancel the contract as soon as i drop the phone off to Australia Post.
Bootom line, their reception sucks and so do their internet services.
Also today i signed up on Telstra's $129 Cap. I have wireless with Telstra which is as fast as broadband and it never cuts out, also i don't get charged for excessive useage and have never had one problem with them. Telstra's reception is the best in the country. Telstra's prices have also come down alot and it is now time jump on board. It is not worth the money you think you save with vodafone when the reliability just isn't there! Another disgruntled EX VODAFONE CUSTOMER! Your VODAFAIL website inspired me and i thank you for taking action! TELSTRA all the way!!!!!

I recently wanted to upgrade my contract to get a new phone only to discover that I could not upgrade it in store - only by calling customer service. I called on a Monday and was on hold for 1.5 hours with no success. At one point they had called me back only to put me onto someone who could not do/handle what I needed and then put me on hold again. I had to work and so called after work on the same day only to be put on hold again.

I then tried again the next day, put on hold once again and finally got through, again to be put through to the wrong person, being put on hold AGAIN.

Internet access is constantly limited and inconsistent.

Not a happy customer!

My brother fell very ill over the lead up to christmas day so i had been on the phone to my family constantly for updates on his recovery.. in ponit form below..

1) If had been on my mobile for over 15 minutes- it would drop outs- so i would call somone back and it would just have no dial tone for about 20 seconds before it dials..

2) No reception outside my house!! and its on the main street.. where i had ALWAYS had reception in the past.. where as now.. no a F'n Chance!! I have to walk 100 meters down the road to make a call or even recieve a call or SMS!!

3) While on the phone to vodafone customer service- To just ASK if there was anyway i could improve on this.. even to just get a new phone.. I was put on hold for almost 2 hours before somone picked up and then hung up!

4) To complain about above i was put on hold for 30 mins.. i so hung up and called again and demanded to speak to manage.. was put on hold for a futher 25 mibnutes before i hung up again..

5) Wrote an email (From the voda website) to complain about above i STILL havnt had a reply.. I thought i would try my luck again today over the phone and was AGAIN!! put on hold for a another 20 minutes. .

6) As i have only JUST signed up for a "infinate" Plan.. i cannot get out of it.. i dont see vodafone getting back to me.. so i have no choice but to stay .. I could just not pay my bill.. At least i would get some attention.. But then ill end up with a bad credit default.. no win!!

7) My sms's, PXT's- came 2-3 hours late!! one day i did not recieve TXTS for 2 days!!!!! 2 WHOLE days!!!

I have been with vodafone for 9 years!!! and have never experienced HELL in my life..!! after my contract i am NEVER comming back.. such a F'n disgrace!!

Missed calls, voice messages come through 5-6 hrs after they have been left, don't receive text messages, only way can use data is to connect to telstra home wifi, has to get a pre paid telstra card for when I am on call at work, missed free front row U2 tickets because the person calling me couldn't get through, have spent 4hrs on hold, done everything the technicians asked, lodged a complaint still no answer.

My partner and I renewed our Vodafone contracts in May. We had been with them for 2 years prior and never had an issue. After signing on for another 2 years with higher plans so we could use internet, data etc, we have had nothing but troubles! Call drop outs, terrible coverage, missed calls, unable to make calls, SLOW loading for the net and just unable to use the net are a daily occurance.
So...I call to complain and it drops out 5 times while on HOLD. By the time I finally get to the bit where they can call you back, they do a week later! Then the girl in cancellations tells me that theres a clause in their contracts that "only guarantees coverage at the home address". From what Im reading, we are pretty lucky and get ok coverage at home, but seriously what the hell is the point of having a mobile if you cant take it MOBILE!!!
It also seems we have had worse coverage since complaining...

I have been with vodafone for a few years and was ok until the last couple of months where I started to get call drop outs and an inability to access my data. Trying to contact vodafone for a resolution is just ridiculous, after trying to call and being told there was a wait time of an hour I used their email complaints facility and though they say that you must respond within 120 or they close the job apparently they have no such time restraint, and when finally I had a response I was told to give 3 calls that dropout within the last 72 hours I said I couldn't since I had started to use my work phone (optus) as it was more reliable. I have contacted the TIO and am still waiting for a resolution. Don't call them for advice either, you'll be transferred between departments all of which want to blame your phone, and tell you that the reception in your area should be ok - well its not, hence the reason for my call!!! Still cannot believe that they pride themselves on their service, I would hate to see how they viewed bad service.

I dont seem to get the answer for that.. Not told when signing up to an iPhone contract for 24 months that Vodafone doesn't receive a 3g signal in the suburb I live in (ACT 2905) and will require the assistance of a wireless booster. Vodafone's solution switch to 2g coverage while I'm at home which is painfully slow. Phone constantly drops out on phone calls, wont receive voicemail messages for a couple of days after they were left. I was on hold to my bank for 30 minutes and half way through a loan application I completely loss reception and dropped out. I have complained to Vodafone but their trouble shooting steps are unreasonable as they require another iPhone to compare with.

I had an I phone with Vodafone for a year in melbourne, I actually had no network issues, and the phone worked okay in Ballarat.

However, the customer service was a nightmare! I left vodafone to upgrade to the 3GS earlier this year and switched to OPTUS. I asked for a final account and waited. And waited. And got one after three months showing that vodafone owed me about $40. So I sent an e-mail to the big V that took a week to be answered, saying that the e-mail team can't do a refund! So I tried the phone team, spent a while on hold and finally got through. After a 15 minute argument I was told that it would take 6 weeks to send me a cheque for the money, no interest would be applied and if I didn't like it someone would contact me. I asked the guy to get anyone to call me back to explain the 6 week delay for a cheque, noone ever has. Small fry I know but bloody annoying!

My phone has very bad reception, cuts out and the times I have rang Vodafone, I am on hold for at least an hour and by the time you do get through, you get hung up on before you even get to say a word. I ended up contacting the store where I purchased my phone and vented my frustrations on the manager. I have regreted the day I signed up with them and so want out!!!

4740 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Reception and service at 27 Dec 2010 07:05:19 PM
I have been with Vodafone for approx. 5 years. before that I switched from Telstra to Optus but they were both horrible ... the Vodafone store people were really friendly and said that the service would improve as major work was being done in my area, over the past 5 years reception hasn't improved in my area ... in fact i think it has gotten worse! It used to take me 5-10 min on hold ... the other day after buying a new phone after my iphone was stolen when someone broke into my house (and my car) I reported it stolen. They were quick to lock down my phone but when it came to reactivating my new sim and new phone I was on hold for nearly 2 hours and even then I had to call again due to a call drop out on their end... and again to unblock incoming calls.
till an hour ago I thought it was only me. On top of that I purchased a new phone to replace the "new" iphone.

I never thought I'd say this but I think im going to switch to Telstra ... they seem to be stepping up in the deals ... f**k i got approx. 20 months left till i can switch!

4725 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is supremely! at 27 Dec 2010 07:01:34 PM
I use a vodafone dongle to acess the internet. They have had several 'problems' with yahoo and general connectivity, network coverage etc. When I ring them to speak to them I can either be on hold for an hour and a half or being insulted by rude, and obnoxious persons who have little graps of the English language. They have, on several occassions extended my data allowance and expiration date to apease me. This has been fine - but the problems never gert fixed! When I rang up exaberated they refused to authroise a refund as I had already been using their service!
The staff have blatantly lied to me on the phone by saying that they do not give data allowances or any kind of recompense - then when I demand to speak to a supervisor they offer data allowance to try to make me happy!
half the time i question whether i even get through the right people!
I am fed up and would be quite happy if they never existed. They are really uselss, overpriced and offer little or no customer satisfaction.

My contract ran out 12 or so months ago & I was contacted by Vodafail to renew, enticed by the iPhone. I was told that a $69 cap should cover my needs & at first it did. Then suddenly after a couple of months with the same usage my bill sky rocketed unexplainably. I enquired & was given a spiel but my query was never really answered. In fact every time I rang I was put on hold for great lengths of time & then told the same spiel. Soon after my coverage was affected for no apparent reason & even though the bill was being addressed, the service was restricted to incoming calls & then cut off completely. Then I was charged $800 for the cancellation of the service. It took Vodafail 2-3weeks to send me an itemised bill justifying their actions after asking on several occasions for this. I was then contacted by a debt collection agency about the matter. After paying the debt collection agency and them confirming the payment, I contacted Vodafail 3 weeks later to ensure that they had in turn received the payment. First I was put on hold for over 45 mins without having spoken to an actual person & transferred to 4 different irrelevant departments. I hung up as I was at work & my charge was about to run out. Two hours later I tried again & was on hold for a further 25 mins. Eventually I spoke to a man of Indian origin who was extremely rude & who hung up on me without even beginning to answer my query. I then went to a Vodafail store to speak to someone face to face & to possibly get my old number back. I was told it would take too long & would be easier if I switched servers to Optus & in MY time I could possibly get the number back after 2 hours online. My payment was never confirmed & I was sent on my way. The coverage & customer service leaves alot to be desired.

4692 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is dissapointingfail at 27 Dec 2010 06:54:34 PM
Up until a few months ago, I had been a Vodafone customer for almost 10 years, with very few problems. I live in a rural town, and although there are some small vodafone drop out zones in my area, in town coverage has always been really good. Anyway a few months ago both mine and my partners phones suddenly lost coverage completely in town and the surrounds. We had been overseas for an extended period before this so gave it a little time in case this had something to do with it, but quickly realised that once we were in the nearest city we had coverage again. Long story short after one month, several unanswered emails and waiting on hold for hours only to be disconnected, all I got from Vodafone was a completely unhelpful email, and was informed that according to their systems coverage in my area was still fine!I moved straight to another telco and have since learned that the exact same coverage drop out was being reported by several other customers in my town at the same time, all of whom have switched to other providers. Vodafone just lost a whole town of customers, and they couldnt even be bothered to investigate. very dissapointing.

Signed up to vodafone, my fail. Anyway I wanted to keep my phone number, no problems there, so I thought... I didn't recieve a sim, I recieved a bill for a new phone number, kept me on hold for almost 2 hours before I gave up, sent them an email and no reply for over 7 days.

If their debt collection department rings me, I will have finally spoken to someone.

Sticking with my current TPG plan, $49 for $1000 worth of calls and 500mb data, their call centre picks up quickly and are very helpful... too bad they don't have a little more data for my iphone, but I will deal with it.

Not happy with vodafone.

I've been with Vodafone since 1998 and I would have to say that they were a real competitor against other Telco's until the last 2-3 years. Since then the service went completely downhill starting with vodafone customer rewards program for long standing members. However I signed a contract with them about a year ago with the release of Blackberry storm smartphones and I'd have to say I have spent hours of time completely wasted following up on major explanations as to why my phone bills were over $200 dollars. When speaking to a service rep my bills were reduced several hundred dollars. So lets imagine this - if one did not follow up on why, which the telco never explained as to why I was immensely overcharged, then I would of been charged. So instead, I waste hours of my time on hold waiting for them to fix a problem they caused. This is just the start. I will be a very keen participant of the class action being organised and I know Piper Alderman is a solid firm with strong roots in the legal system. Whoever started this I applaud you.

My issue with vodafone is that i have been trying to recharge my prepaid plan for the past 2 weeks. I have tried doing it online but i was unsuccessful and was advised to contact vodafone to resolve the issue. First time trying to contact them I was put on hold for 4 hours and still didn't speak to any representative.

So the next day I called again and after 40 min i ended up speaking to a representative and was informed that they still couldn't resolve the issues and was told to call back the next day to check if the issue had been resolved.

The following day i contacted vodafone again and this time was told that the systems are down and for me to call back the next day.

Next day i call them and was still informed that the system are back up however they could not figure out why the recharge was not going through.

Now i have been with out credit for a total of 2 weeks. I am sick of this and now with tossing up going with optus or telstra

So I called Vodafone the other day to upgrade my plan, and after being on hold for 25 minutes they put me through to ... wait for it ... ANOTHER VODAFONE CUSTOMER ... yes that's right, someone who doesn't even work for Vodafone!! As if that isn't bad enough, I then hung up and called back again, only to be hung up on ... twice! After spending most of the day trying to get through with no luck I eventually went into a store the next day, who, actually were very helpful. They upgraded my plan and advised me someone would call me about ordering my new handset. They called alright ... 3 hrs later, and advised I couldn't get the phone I wanted because I had to be a customer for at least 3 months ... I HAVE BEEN A CUSTOMER FOR 8 YEARS VODAFONE YOU MORONS!!! I explained the only reason I changed my plan was so I could get the phone and advised I would be taking the matter further as I couldn't believe they could treat their loyal customers with such utter disrespect ... it was then they MAGICALLY found a way around the problem and ordered my new handset. Amazing!! This is aside from all of the connection issues I have with my phone and my home internet (it drops out at about 9 - 10pm every single night ... what the??)! Over it Vodafone! Your customer service is disgusting and the connection issues are a joke!!

I just spent an hour and twenty minutes on the phone to vodafone, to make a complaint. After redirected to "different" departments twice, both of which could hardly understand english I got cut off!!!! Which is ironic considering the reason I called to complain is because every-phone call I make gets cut off. I do not receive calls. I do not receive text messages on time and can rarely send a text message without getting "sent failed" I am absolutely furious with vodafone. I have been with your network for approximately five years yet no loyalty or understanding is being showed to me. I pay a lot of money to get absolutely nothing. I am sending this because I am unable to speak to anyone on the phone despite being on hold. I expect to get some kind of compensation for this otherwise I will be withdrawing from vodafone as soon as I can as my contract is drawing to an end. I will also look into taking further action. I have lost a lot of business in the last few months because of vodafones pathetic, unreliable and unprofessional network.

Vodafone kept debiting my credit card after I cancelled it online. When they finally responed to my repeated email they told me I have another 12 months of contract. I signed a 1 year contract in September this year. Ever since I had dropped calls, no reception, lost customers. They kept telling me they would have to check the reception with their own tests, then they said it was the sim card, they replaced the sim card, IT SEEMED WITH EVERY CALL THERE WAS A DIFFRENT EXCUSE AND A NEW DELAYING TACTIC, EVENTUALLY after many hours on hold and many calls and threats to take them to Consumer Affairs for false advertising (telling me I would have reception in my area) and charge them for my lost business, they AGREED to let me out of my contract at no charge. They gave me a cancellation number and I went straight away to Optus, I haven't had a problem since, EXCEPT I am still waiting for the return bag to send their phone back!! I have phoned again 3 times. So the saga isn't finished yet....
My advice is, keep calling! Ask for Cancellations department! Demand they let you out of your contract and threaten them with Consumer Affairs etc. And Don't give up, !!!

I've been with vodafone for over two years with both a mobile and usb modem contract. My bills have never been over the prescribed amount until about May of 2010. After May 2010, my usb modem bills went from $39 each month to $200+...
including one bill which hit $1,000. After repeated phone calls to them about the problem where I was put on hold for 45+ minutes each call, including one where I was on the phone for more than 3 hours and then told that the section I need was now closed, I asked for them to cancel my contracts.
They told me they could wipe the $1,000 bill in its entirity as long as I stayed with vodafone. I told them that was black mail considering it was a mistake there end to begin with.
They offered me higher data plans, none of which offers have actually been followed through.
I have since managed to have my phone contract cancelled, but each time I ring to get my usb modem cancelled there is always some reason why they can't do it.

My mobile phone was dropping out mid calls and making really strange noises.
My internet service is very poor. I get approximately 5 - 15 minutes before I have restart it. Very frustrating.

Totally over vodafail.

I have been a loyal Vodafone customer for 8yrs, but this is just shocking. On one day I was on the phone to "customer service" 3 times... first I got cut off after being on hold for 20mins (Angry? You bet!). Then I rang back and this time got the option for the callback... 2hrs later my phone rings. The chick in "customer service"was less than helpful, didnt help that their system was down also. What a joke... They tell me to call them back (What!?) so I do, tell them my problems (mainly not sending/receiving sms) and they go on to blame my sim card for all my service dropouts/delays. Pfft. Not likely chump. I gave examples of a friend and partner as they are having the same problems. She suggests their sims are dodgy.
too. Are you for real?! So then I get forwarded onto "tech support". Why? Beats me! Surprise surprise they can't tell me anything. Then I get hung up on.... pissed? Of course. But, lucky for them they rang back. So I go get a new sim... has it fixed anything? What do you think? Of course not. I totally can't be bothered calling up again to sit on hold, only to talk to Some useless person in "customer service", with a shocking delay in response (you can't make me believe they are in Aust!). I'm over it, and lucky for me my plan runs out in Feb!

Next day, internet not working again, called back Vodafone who told me to uninstall internet then reinstall and they hung up the phone. Turns out the computer would not let me reinstall the internet, Vodafone told me there was nothing they could do so I asked to be put through to disconnections. I was advised I would have to pay for the service for the next few weeks as they cannot disconnect until the end of my billing cycle (so I'm still paying for something that doesnt work). Have been with VF for a LONG time, however, signed up a two year contract in Feb 2010 (because I found their service to be excellent, Customer Service was crap, but never needed it in years). In July 2010, while wife was sick and tired of 3, I convinced her to switch over to Vodafone as well, BIG MISTAKE. It appears she brought all her problems with her;

1- Call Drop Outs.
2- Extremely Slow Internet.
3- No Coverage needing REBOOT (Blackberries are a pain in the arse to REBOOT)
4- SOS Only needing REBOOT.
5- 3G Constantly Dropping even at FULL 3G coverage a second ago.
6- 'SIM Unregistered' Message needing REBOOT.

Called VF, you know how frustrating it is trying to talk to bloody Lara while at work? Twenty five minutes first hold, problem not solved.

Second call, told to leave number and will get a call in just over thirty minutes, no call back for 52 minutes.

Called again, on hold for over 25 minutes when another call is on hold, switched over, 26 minutes later, been put back on hold, still not sorted.

I have avoided having wife's iPhone break my head numerous times (mostly because she loves her phone), but this is ridiculous.

My uncle passed overseas three days ago and while on the mobile talking to his daughter to share the sorrows, the phone drops out after a five minute conversation. to top that off, my sister calls me from USA because she is very depressed, but I can't call her back because the 'Sim Unregistered' message...

I will call them every time there is a problem and demand out if it keeps happening regularly hence forth.

Dropped calls, no reception in different parts of my house, no range 5kms from a major Queensland town of 140,000 people, no coverage from Toowoomba to Goondiwindi so 350kms and 3hrs of no reception along one of Australia's busiest highways, virtually NO 'Live!' coverage so none of the free Facebook and YouTube services they advertise are no cost, terrible voice quality calls, 4hrs on hold for customer assistance in one instance, 1hr waits on five occasions - all times I gave up, painfully slow data transfers, duplicated messages for two weeks including three days when they were triplicated and quadrupled as well as not receiving or sending TXTs for two weeks with no apology or compensation...you would expect this from a carrier in a 3rd world nation, and STILL they market and advertise for more clients!!!

I think waiting on hold for over 40 minutes, then to have your call answered by a clearly Indian person with an overworked Aussie accent is appealing and disgusting, then to be advised that they could not fix the problem I was having right away, and that I'll have to call back in an hour or so to have the issue even considered for correction is a customer service crisis.
Finally, after another phone call and this time over 50 minutes on hold, I was told that somebody would call me back in an hour or so to help me further.. so I waited for the return phone call, and about 4 hours later and nearly 10pm Sydney time, I received a phone call.... and surprise, surprise, the best solution to my problem was to go into a Vodafone store and the staff there can help me!
This is outrageous, shocking and most of all disgusting!
I'm contracted to stay with Vodafone for 8 more months, and would NEVER CONSIDER USING THIS CARRIER EVER AGAIN!!!!!

I am so glad I watched the news tonight and have seen your website! Thank you!

Their customer service is just disgraceful - I don't know how they are allowed to get away with it.
the below is a complaint letter that I sent to them a couple of month ago. No one responded to me. I am going down to vodafone tomorrow to get out of my contract if I can - I encourage everyone to do the same - having no customers is the only way to hurt these organsiations - vote with your feet!

DEAR WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE PROVIDER EVER!

I AM WRITING THIS EMAIL OUT OF SHEER ANGER AND FRUSTRATION AS I CANNOT FIND ANSWERS ANY OTHER WAY. KNOWING VODAFONE I WON'T GET A RESPONSE.

YOUR RIDICULOUS LARA VOICE RECOGNITION SYSTEM IS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING AND DOES NOT WORK. YOU WAIT ON HOLD FOR HOURS AND THEN GET THROUGH TO A DIVISION LIKE TECH SUPPORT WHEN YOU WANT BILLING AND THEY CAN'T HELP YOU. YOU ARE THEN TRANSFERRED BACK ONTO A QUEUE THAT YOU HAVE TO WAIT AGAIN.

LET YOUR CUSTOMERS SPEAK TO A REAL PERSON. A PERSON THAT IS AUSTRALIAN! YOU ARE THE AUSTRALIA DIVISION OF VODAFONE! I AM SICK AND TIRED OF BEING PUT THROUGH TO AN INDIAN OR EGYPTIAN CALL CENTRE WITH STAFF THAT CULTURALLY CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM TRYING TO FIND OUT. I HAVE BEEN ON HOLD TONIGHT FOR OVER TWO HOURS. RESOURCE YOUR CALL CENTRES APPROPRIATELY!!! I HAVE BEEN PASSED FROM EVERY DIVISION, SPOKEN TO A SUPERVISOR AND STILL NO ONE IS ABLE TO PUT ME THROUGH TO A PERSON THAT CAN ASSIST WITH MY REQUEST.

I APPRECIATE THAT YOU CFO IS TIGHT AND WANTS TO CUT COSTS BY OUTSOURCING CALL CENTRES TO INDIA AND EGYPT, BUT YOUR CUSTOMERS CAN'T UNDERSTAND THE INDIAN CUSTOMER SERVICE TEAM'S ACCENT AND LANGUAGE BARRIERS. I JUST FOUND OUT THAT I CANNOT SPEAK TO ANYONE IN AUSTRALIA AT ALL. ASK YOUR MARKETING DIRECTOR - WHAT IS THE POINT OF DEVELOPING A GREAT BRAND CAMPAGIN WHEN YOUR CUSTOMERS ARE TREATED LIKE DIRT AT THE OTHER END I CANNOT BELEIVE HOW BACKWARD YOUR APPROACH TO CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE IS.

IF I DIDN'T HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO I WOULD START A VODAFONE HATE CAMPAIGN ACROSS EVERY SOCIAL NETWORK SITE I CAN FIND.

IF THERE IS ANYONE WITH A BRAIN THAT CAN READ THIS EMAIL, PLEASE SEND IT TO YOU MARKETING TEAMS, BECAUSE I AM SURE THEY WILL CARE MORE ABOUT THIS COMPLAINT THAN ANY OTHER. IF YOU WANT A LESSON IN CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE PHONE THE COMMONWEALTH BANK AS THEY KNOW HOW TO TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS PROPERLY. I FEEL LIKE I MATTER TO THEM AS A CUSTOMER.

WITH VODAFONE I CAN'T WAIT TO WORK OUT HOW I'M GOING TO GET OUT OF YOUR CONTRACT AND TELL EVERYONE HOW ABISMAL YOUR SERVICE IS!

IF SOME POTATO IN YOUR AUSTRALIA CUSTOMER SERVICE TEAM COULD CONTACT ME TO ANSWER MY QUESTION I WOULD BE MOST GRATEFUL.

I WON'T HOLD MY BREATH.
27 Dec 2010 05:59:18 PM: Your letter looks close to the letter I wrote to them not that long ago. I'm still waiting for that call...All I have been getting is automated email replies
27 Dec 2010 11:36:07 PM: maybe you shouldn't be such a racist dickhead
29 Dec 2010 06:33:51 PM: LOl you idiot......Commonwealth Bank got the lowest score in customer service out of any of the major banks. Im not defending Vodafone nor am I trying to make Commonwealth Bank sound bad but seriously do some research before you make such stupid comments. P.S all you have to do is ask to cancel your contract, they will cancel it for you or come to a compromise. I was annoyed that I was paying $100 a month for shitty coverage and they cancelled my contract. Done happy :-) ......ohh and if you think that vodafone has tight ass CFO, you might want to google what commonwealth banks profits were last year. The board decides to cut costs to make money for share holders. Share holders at the end of the day want more profits so therefore favour cheaper decisions, the CFO is mearly a puppet in-between the public and its shareholders.........so who do we blame SHAREHOLDERS!!!! no further comment....

9 Jan 2011 04:29:17 PM: Hullo friend

very sorry to hear from your issues . For all the viewers , please understand vodafone is upgrading its towers and that is why is the reasons for all this . vodafone is trying to give its customers cheapest and best services to all . The main reason two company telstra and optus is jealsouy and cant win in business side , so they are tarnishing the image of vodafone.vodafone has invested 8billions for its towers and 8.3ghz frequency which is equal to telestra. People need to be patient . customer care in India is par excellence services . Indians are well educated and well mannered people .if aussies understand indian english then there is some problem in vocal bury and ausi phonics. Guys cant we just grow up?and let us stop being racist .and for all your worries on vodaofne , you will be definitely compensated .
31 Jan 2011 04:42:47 PM: Oh yeah and are you authorised by vodacrap to lie on their behalf, and mislead some people into believeing we will be compensated?
13 Feb 2011 11:47:48 PM: I fail to see how pointing out that the majority of us cannot understand Indian or Egyptian accents is racist.... its just the truth. We cant understand what they're saying. Who wouldn't rather have Australian operators where half the conversation isn't asking them to repeat what they just said 3 times?

I have had problems with them over the years were they have been taking money out of my bank account with out any consent or contract binding! When I rang to sort it out they kept putting me through to the debts area like i was the one that owed them money!! I had to go to the TIO in the end to have it sorted out. Last week I waited on hold for customer service for 1 hour and 20 minutes to try and have my handset upgraded. I hung up in the end because I couldn't bear to waist anymore of my time!! NOT HAPPY

It took nearly 2 weeks to receive the product because it was sent to a distribution centre outside my area. 3G coverage at my home close to centre of Tweed Heads is one bar or less. I phoned Vodafone about reception; phone call took 1 hour 15 minutes, They would look into reception problem & get back in under 72hrs.No they didn't. I phoned twice over 6 days only to be told the service could not be improved in my area.(web sites shows excellent coverage along the coast) I told them I wanted to cancel the service & I was told a return bag would sent to me. Once they received the device my account would cease. Over 2 months latter I received the return bag. I don't know how many hours I spent on the phone to them to finally get the bag. Although I wasn't using the device and had cancelled the service I was still being billed. Vodafone kept telling me the bag had been sent, kept telling me they would get back to me. When I finally posted the device back I kept receiving bills. Vodafone kept telling me they hadn't received the device. I eventually had to find out from Aust post when the device was delivered and tell Vodafone where and when it was delivered. I no longer receive paper bills but I received an email bill last month which was in credit.(4 mths from the beginning of the horror experience now) I have never dealt with a company with such poor customer relations. I spent literally hours on the phone waiting to speak to customer service. Never again will I have anything to do with Vodafone.
Tips for dealing with Vodafone.
Use a handsfree phone when calling them, you can do other things while you are put on hold.
Card games,Free cell and patience are good to fill in the time.
Hands free cordless speaker phone would allow you to go make a cup of tea or get something to eat from the kitchen.
Keep your cool because if you lose it they may hang up on you & you will have to call back and be on hold an hour or so.
Remind them there is a Telecommunication Ombudsman you will contact if you don't get results.
Keep a record of all you phone calls to them, dates and times and results.
Persistance is the only way you will win. I hope you have plenty of time to waste on the phone.
Best wishes
Robert

Been with Vodafone for about 13 years now, i have 2 phones/plans on my account, i have never ever heard from vodafone asking if i am happy, or how they can help etc etc. the last few months the reception here has been going down hill, the last 2 weeks we all of a sudden have no reception in our house and we have to drive around the block to get some coverage. Not good when i am trying to run a business on these phones, now i am using my home phone all the time and that bill is going to be huge, and we are even having to give clients our home phone number so they can get hold of us, its a joke!!! I rang Vodafone the other night, after being on hold for 1hr 23mins i finally spoke to someone who was trying to tell me it was phone(which is iPhone 3GS) even after i told her we have 2 phones doing the same thing, and my next door neighbour the same also, but she continued to make me try and reset all different settings on my phone(about 4 times) and now i have lost all my settings and a fair bit my stuff i had stored on there is gone too!!!! She told me i was in a standard good 3G reception area, and maybe i need to take my phone to get looked at(again i told its happening with all phones) she then said they have noted my call in the system and are looking into it and i should either have the problem fixed or hear from Vodafone regarding this within the next 72 hours, well i havent had either happen, i am furious!!!! i am stuck in a plan on one phone still for another year and a half, and the other is due in 2 months, which i was going to renew in the new year so i can get another iphone for 24 month contract, doubt i will be doing that now, anyone got Telstras number?

I live in Lilydale, a metro suburb and I cannot even get a fraction of reception at my house. I joined with Vodafone when living at another address, and since moving have not been able to gain any reception at home. Other people in my home are with 3 and are able to roam through Telstra. I went into a Vodafone store to ask about roaming. The young girl employee looked clueless and said she would look into it and call me back in half an hour with the result. An hour and a half later she calls to tell me she can't do anything. I then call Customer Service to try and get my National Roaming activated (seeing as the girl couldn't comprehend the matter), and was on hold for 45 minutes before giving up. I then visited another store and had my roaming activated, at which point I was told that any txt or calls made when roaming where not included in my $114 Unlimited Cap and that I have to pay extra for Vodafone's failure of coverage. Then when I returned home I discovered that I still do no receive any reception, even with my roaming activated and turned on. Massive failure Vodafone. I cannot believe I still have to pay for another 10 months of service when I can't even get a single bar of reception at my own home. What's the point in paying $114 for month for unlimited usage when I can't even access any data services where I live?

I have to make phone calls from my front verandah - no other place in my house has reception. Reception is patchy in my street - will drop out when you get to the bottom of the road. Texts are delayed due to no reception - i have to leave my phone outside if i want to guarantee a chance that it will keep its bars. I spent 45 minutes on hold to voda to complain after their website lists my area as "standard" coverage- their suggested solution was to go get a new sim and that maybe it was my nokia with the issue. Scathing email to the company resulted in a request to contact their "tech" department - from my phone which does not have reception ... likely. After 3 years of substandard calls cutting out, reception and lost business ... i hope you guys can fix it

Have had issues with wireless internet for months. When you call them for assistance they advise to go into the store. When you go into the store they advise only vodafone over the phone can help. When you call back you spend over 30 minutes on hold only to speak to someone who cannot understand you & you cannot understand them. THEN they tell you to go back into the store, where the vodafone store has been changed to "3 store" and they no longer can help with vodafone issues & give you another address. Mobile number was ported to Vodafone years ago and now on a 24 month contract. The mobile number was given out to someone else over east. Our friends get her and her friends call us. After months of being on hold to sort it out Virgin have said it is an issue with Vodafone. Everytime I call Vodafone I get some bloody non english speaking person in India and have to explain the whole situation over and over. They tell me its not their issue so I ask to speak to superviser. Once again after telling my story to another 3 workers I finally get the superviser who cant help me as it is not their problem. Having struggled through limited Mobile Broadband Coverage in houses in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, all of which are in areas of full coverage according to Vodafone's coverage maps, the last straw recently came when my ex and I tried to split the numbers currently under my name onto seperate accounts. We got the run-around of shop-front people saying they couldn't do it, we had to ring Customer "support", only to be told that we could do it at a shop. More than 12 hours between us later on hold, we still haven't been able to resolve the issue - I've been told the authorisation has gone through and would be effective immediately, only for her to call and be told that the authorisation hasn't been made. Oh, and I am writing this through a Dial-Up speed connection for which I am still paying Broadband rates. My fancy new Smartphone suffers from the same bandwidth strangulation. I don't have a positive thing to say about Vodafone, and am seriously considering leaving them, except that previous experience with other carriers hasn't exactly been positive.

I was loyal to Vodafone for over 10 years. I went camping with a mate and my phone was thrown in the fire. I sat on hold with their 'upgrade' department for 35 minutes before I was cut off. I called back again and spoke to an operator who told me I would have to wait another 25 minutes. I decided to just go straight into a Vodafone shop instead. I called first to make sure my upgrade could be done from the shop, and was told there would be no problem. After sitting there doing all the sign up stuff for 15 minutes, I was told it could not be done. I am now with Telstra and let me tell you, my phone now works everywhere on calls, which it certainly didn't with Voda. My broadband works everywhere, even in the country town where I grew up, which Vodafone had no chance in. My advice is to get the hell away from Vodafone as fast as you can. They are absolutely hopeless, with absolutely no customer service skills, and I would like to stab Lara to death.

Full reception but cant call or talking and suddenly it drops out. This is crap as i run a business and are always on the run from job to job and need my mobile to operate my business. Data speeds are slow and takes forever to open up the first page its like it needs to warm up and old computer so it runs on optimum speeds. Not very happy and i just recently signed up again to upgrade my plans and get a new phone. I think i will take this to the ombadsmen so i can brake the pathetic contract i signed and move onto someone else who has better ratings. This is not good enough anymore and its been going on for too long now.

Hi
I am so over Vodafone there billing service is a discrace i received a email bill from them saying I owed $15 odd and when I logged on to pay it told me I owed $78.99 and when I sms 1512 it told me another amount. I called the customer diservice section to be placed on hold for 45 minutes to be simply told we are not sure and ill put you through to our billing department.
I spoke to a woman there who said she would look into it and asked for my password (not my 4 digit access pin) but my password and when I refused she said well i cant help you and hung up on me.......
If Vodafone cant look into a billing problem where do we go from here.
As for the service in Fairfield my phone has 1 bar and im told its simply my fault and upgrade the phone. if thats the case I will ask Apple whens the new IPhone 5 coming out. LOL

I have reccently changed to Optus due to never ending problems with Vodafone. I can be on the phone and suddenly have my call drop out and then try to make calls and they keep failing. My friend then tried to call me back and got a different person. This has happened to me on many occasions yet no one at Vodafone can ever offer any assistance. I was unable to make calls (including emergency calls)and could only receive some txts for over 24hrs. When I went in to the nearest voafone store they informed me there was an issue which was being resolved but they could not tell me what the issue was and when it would be resolved. Since I couldn't make or receive calls I had no way of getting updates. They also told me I may be able to get compensation however I had to call their customer service number. I tried this once my phone was working again however after being transferred from several departments and waiting on hold for and extended period of time I gave up. In the end I was tired of terrible reception, bad customer service, randomly not getting voice messages for days and very slow internet so I gave up on Vodafone.

3960 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is shithouse at 27 Dec 2010 05:00:37 PM
always dropping out. SOme indian call centre worker has told me to execpt these drop outs until January. Had no reception for 3 days straight and was told to get my phone working I need to turn off my 3G settings. What a load of Shit?
Will not be paying any bills for Vodafone and Im happy to swap providsers asap. I cant get a simply amount off anyone in vodafone as to how much is left on my contract with those tools. 20 minutes on hold, phone dropped out. On hold again for an expected time of 12-20minutes. After holding a second time for 14minutes, vodafone service cut out again. I gave up. They suck. Everyone I know in Cronulla cant get calls in or out a majority of the time. DO NOT PAY YOUR BILLS!!! They are a scam!

I have called vodafone, been into the store where i purchased my broadband from and no one can answer my question!I use my internet on average 2hrs a day. I also bought a fone on plan didn't recieve my bill via e-mail as stipulated in my contract. When i try to call vodafone im always on hold for more than 45mins, and you speck to people that can't speak english. I'm just feed up !!!!
