Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

16883 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Vodafone low signal causes iPhone battery drainage at 21 Apr 2011 11:47:13 AM
Proven: iPhone 3G/3GS/4 with good signal (3 or above bars) has 17% better standby time than low signal (2 or below bars).

Vodafone has low signal in my area (14km away from CBD) is causing battery drainage on my iPhone 3GS.

call dropouts is another issue!

The Vodafone network is a disgrace and it's "robbing" it's customers of benefiting from a decent network. I switched over to Telstra this past weekend. All I can say is "why didn't I do this way earlier?". Fantastic signal strength from Telstra, as well as way faster internet '3G' connectivity. No more dropped calls, text messages fly through - to name but a few. Vadafone better do something about their terrible network soon, or else they are going to lose many customers. Thank you to Telstra for making my mobile experience more pleasurable! DO NOT SIGN UP WITH VODAFONE!!! Support the other networks.

oh and by the way
SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO(REMOVED SOME OF THE O's)OOW INTERNET!!!!
27 Apr 2011 02:21:51 PM: Same here...and I was astounded at how easily they volunteered the 3 month discount. Everybody get on the 25% x 3 month discount bandwagon while it lasts.

In the meantime I am writing to Wayne Swan (My local member) and the TIO to make formal complaints and then the media will be next.

Vodafone...get your sh*t together!

16743 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Dropped calls during 2G/3G handoff on the iPhone 4 at 10 Apr 2011 09:27:33 PM
In my case (iPhone 4 user), the dropped call issue seems to be related to 2G to 3G "handoff" (and visa versa). If this is an iPhone problem, why did Vodafone sign off on the technicals related to the handset (after all, Vodafone has over 380 million customers worldwide, surely that means that they would have significant leverage over Apple/Jobs to get the product right!!).
13 Apr 2011 12:11:02 AM: If they don't sign up for iPhone they'll lose a lot of the market who are suckered into the iPhone's hype machine. Unfortunately Apple's technology is lazy and unpolished, but they still sell.

I use my CJ's phone and internet as after hours system with my photography business to contact / maintain contact and upload images to my server. The telecommunications service in Forster NSW is awful to say the least.I want out after over 2 years with this company the recent lack of decent service and then today to find my 'local' (Port Macquarie) store has closed is the straw that broke this camels back.

16694 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Supreme Fail! at 6 Apr 2011 12:05:01 PM
Where do I start? Vodaphuckt is the antichrist of telecommunications! Their unbelievable waiting time to get customer service (funny name that) on the phone just makes you puke and so you try the website - same, but worse because you have to wait soooooooo long for pages to load because the site is soooo overloaded with disgruntled people who just tried to call them! Add to this the call dropouts (good going guys -each time the call drops out, I have to pay another flag fall on the re-connected call)and the crappy customer service and you've got a business going broke by the minute. I called them to express my dissatisfaction (I have been a customer for about 10 years) and the best they will do for me? They offered me a up-grade to a more expensive plan - at my cost! The only advantage? I didn't have to pay the break fee from my current plan and also i would have to sign up for another two years!! Gee, how generous Vodaphuct!

16627 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is pretty bad at 3 Apr 2011 08:58:44 AM
Dropped calls, poor battery life, the list goes on. Why am I sticking with them? When I signed up for the contract the vodafail employee messed up, meaning that I get a couple of gigs of data, 300 minutes of phone calls, unlimited texts and an iPhone 4 for $29 per month - I'm not being charged for the handset. Least they could do, given all the network problems I've been having.

16547 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Vodafone sent my phone to the wrong address and insisited I pick it up from there, it took 2 months to get a replacement! at 1 Apr 2011 09:54:10 AM
I went on a contract, Voda sent me a faulty handset, I ordered a replacement handset from Voda & they sent it to the wrong address! For two months they insisted that it was the right address and air express got it wrong; after receiving the order from air express it was evident Voda got it wrong (Vodafone still to this date imply that I gave them the wrong address, because I don't know where I live...). Anyway, they told me to pick it up from this wrong address, as they didn't want to incur additional costs in fixing their screw up. In the end, after making a big enough noise (and 5 hours on the phone) they agreed to send a new handset & would recall the one sent to the wrong address. The handset I got was also faulty, DOA to be exact... (HTC Desire HD).

After all the issues with dropped calls on the network as well as never working data, I decided to can Vodafone and go with Telstra :)
1 Apr 2011 03:49:54 PM: it sounds like when i re-signed my contract with voda and got a new phone the girl used my debit card medicare card and license for I.D. and then went on to give vodafone my debit card details. But of course their workers wouldnt do that i MUST have given them the details and authorized the direct debit?? To which i replied "if i gave it to her why would i be ringing you saying i didnt??" in the end i got a refund of what they took from my account and got to add this to my TIO complaint which helped my case.

16538 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Poor overall service at 1 Apr 2011 09:15:36 AM
This is just a general complaint about vodafone as a customer for abotu 4 years now this is now my 3rd contract with vodafone and i have to say it's gotten a lot worse. I was happy originally with my sony phone but iPhone is a whole other level of terrible as far as vodafone is concerned. My iphone 3G was bad enough with dropped calls, slow internet speed and lazy phone but iphone 4 has reached a new heights of epic fail. I can't get onto anything on the net with my iphone 4 becuase it simply drops out due to "timed out service", phone banking changed my life but i can't do that at all with westpac or commbank, ebay, facebook forget it, i can't do anything via my phone. I went to NSW and the internet was non-existant. I have finally sent a mass complaint to vodafone directly and i'm glad that i'm not the only one just plain angry now at how bad the service is yet vodafone don't fail to send you bills every month on time, that' just about the only service they're providing!

16490 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is abominal at 31 Mar 2011 10:38:24 PM
After around two years with Vodafone, they've started charging me call time for all of my internet access. Over a period of a month, anytime I am not connected to wi-fi, they are charging me a phone call. On average, it's two six hour phone calls every day for a month. I haven't changed my phone, my plan, my usage, anything. After an hour long phone call, I was told that the large bill was due to increased internet usage. Then the second time I called, after prooving the total in my usage was acceptable with my plan, I had now made too many phone calls, and texts. I've used half an hour of phone calls in a month on a $49 cap and they're saying that's over the limit? I don't think so. I've sent multiple emails through their web form. The first two with no response, the third with a copy paste job about how Vodafone does not make mistakes.

Vodafone, I am now happily with Telstra. No dropped calls, no late voicemail, no slow internet, no douche bag on the phone with no idea about what's going on.

I've wasted hours trying to fix this and Vodafone won't even look at the bill. They just tell me they're not wrong. Awesome attitude, from the top, all the way down.

I have an account with three/vodaphone with e billing. Today I received my bill through the e mail erver. When I wanted to watch and print the bill as I always do the 3 customer care the answer was "wrong pin" so I tried again.Same result . I didn't give up, entering my pin very carefully. Same result and a message stated that the account was blocked. It gave a phone number to call and guess what. After several tries with accessing the right connections I waspromised to speak to a customer care person. after a few garbled noise the call disconnected.
This happened 4 times and I still cannot find out how big the bill is. Stinks!

16390 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is useless dross at 23 Mar 2011 08:02:41 AM
I brought with me an iPhone 3GS from Ireland to Australia as part of my migration. Initially the speeds were great out near Casula and Liverpool about 4 months ago. Since returning to Australia in late February, I've been beset with awful data speeds, (<0.20 Mbps) and constant timeouts and connection failures, not to mention the frustration of dropped calls and texts arriving hours late.

Managed to get the iPhone unlocked by contacting Vodafone Ireland, who are actually incredibly reliable, very pleasant and have the best network in the country. Cannot believe the Vodafone brand is so awful here. Porting to Telstra as soon as I use up my credit. (Not data; that would take years)

I just got a nasty Letter from a company NRG - saying I am in default on my Bill.
My last bill was dated 7 DAYS ago and SAYS I am in credit and DO NOT PAY.
So Vodafone are now sending my details on to Debt collectors and sending me different bills to what they send them.
And NRG when I called them the delay on the calls is terrible - so slow.. and so I called vodafone and of course.. Im put on hold !
On top of dropped calls and bad data connections - this is the last straw....
15 Mar 2011 03:06:41 PM: I had almost same problem, contact the TIO, you wont need to pay a thing if you're correct :)

16307 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Useless at 15 Mar 2011 01:44:51 PM
On a business account, and calls are dropping out, and client e-mails taking an age to download (sometimes up to 15mins). Rang Vodafail while out on lunch, in the MLC Center in Sydney, almost no reception in the center of our biggest city. Returned to work, and had three dropped calls while waiting, and in total spent 2 hours waiting to get to a lady who said they would not release me from my contract as my residential address is in an area that will be upgraded next month and that is my "nominated area of usage". I never nominated any area, and the whole idea of being mobile is exactly that, otherwise I'd be working with a land line all day.

My second issue was one where I had a broadband USB key plan. Zero reception in Crows Nest, Sydney. Got out of that contract and signed up for a new plan and an iPhone as a solution for mobile e-mail access. Vodafail said they would send a box for the USB key to be packed in to be returned. They never sent the box. A year later when I was with my phone provider checking sometyhing else, he looked at my account, adn they were still charging me for the USB key and full plan, even though he had notified them to cancel the plan 12 months earlier. They had this noted on the system, but wouldn't give me a refund as they said it was my fault for not checking my bills. I work for myself, so have a direct debit set up, all paper work goes to my accountant. After a lot of arguing, they agreed to refund 50%, through a credit on the account.

This company are a joke, and I cannot wait to be free of them.

16244 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is USELESS!!! at 10 Mar 2011 03:38:51 PM
I have been a loyal customer with vodafone for over 7 years now, having multiple phone contracts and mobile broadband accounts over the years.

My account number is 218955903

I have recently recieved a new iphone 4 and renewed my contract for another 12 months.. hoping this would fix the multitude of problems ive been facing over the last 6 months. These include dropped calls, no service, customer service won't help with the complaint, and worst of all the potential loss of business due to poor reception and dropped calls.

I run my own electrical contracting bussiness in the sydney cbd and metro area but am finding it EXTREMELY DIFFICULT! to do so as every second call drops out to prospective clients, and more often then not i get voicemails from clients that have been unable to get through. This being due to poor service in the middle of sydney!!

The internet speeds make it pretty much useless to complete anything on the phone, as now i dont even bother.

The Phone i am using cannot be the problem as it is brand new with a new sim card and i have friends on the same plan who have full reception and not a problem.

I have contacted customer support numerous times only to be put on hold and transfered over and over again for an hour each time.. with no success!! I have logged a complaint with vodafone and am unfortunatly looking to cancel my contract with them and switch to a new service provider.

This is costing me a fortune in lost bussines!

16227 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is EPIC FAIL at 9 Mar 2011 07:27:38 PM
Dropped calls. Shocking coverage in Kilburn, Prospect, Blackwood, Bedford Park, Marion, Woodcroft, Hackham, and the Barossa... just to name a few. Voicemails and SMS not received for hours (absolutely useless when work calls me and asks me if I can come in when I've not been rostered on, for instance). Cannot make calls or receive calls for large blocks of time... thank god I've not YET been in an emergency situation... or had family trying to contact me urgently! Trying to use the internet on my iPhone 3GS is painful whenever I leave the house, even gave up trying to use the internet on my phone in MELBOURNE recently. Also, my phone is usually rendered useless when in a shopping centre (no service whatsoever). SMS that refuse to send, or take numerous attempts to send. SMS sent that are not actually received are extremely frustrating, not to mention trying on friendships and relationships!

I've been a Vodafone customer for 9 years (at least), unfortunately, the majority of my problems started a few months into signing a contract for the iPhone in April last year. Never really had much of a problem previously as a prepaid customer. I'm paying $79 a month on my contract, is it too much to ask that I can AT LEAST make and receive phone calls ALL THE TIME? I had my landline disconnected when I took out this contract with Vodafone, having never had any problems with my service previously, and trusting that I would be able to make and receive calls all the time.

16138 Someone from Somewhere else thinks vodafone is Extremely at 4 Mar 2011 03:47:51 PM
I brought an iPhone, asking specifically about coverage in my home area. I was told there wouldn't be a problem. A week of dropped and missed calls, I get a follow-up from the salesperson, I mention the dropped calls, he tells me to switch from 3G to 2G - sort of making an iPhone pointless. After a year of dropped calls, I finally get out of the contract - told by Vodafone customer services that I shouldn't have been sold the phone to begin with. They offer me a year's refund in costs. When my next bill comes, the money is there, but I can't get it. Vodafone since changed their story and said that the refund was to keep me with Vodafone - which they knew wasn't possible. Oddly enough the phone call where I was offered this refund is the only one not recorded!

Vodafone lied to me, offered conflicting and poor customer service.

From the top:
1. Despite having mid-high signal strength, phone calls bounce to message bank.
2. Message bank messages take minutes to play or time out.
3. Text messages can be anywhere from instant to overnight in delivery.
4. Call drop-outs increasing. Return calls don't go through - "call failed."
5. 3g barely works, continually drops.
6. Internet access continually times out.
7. Severity of issues increasing.
8. Call dropouts to tech support...

Just received an SMS from Vodafone advising me that I need to update my email address so they can send me my bill electronically, otherwise I'll be charged a $2.20 fee for them sending out a paper bill.

My email addresses have always been up to date on the system. I have not been sent a single email from Vodafone. And now they tell me they can't send an email to a fully functioning email address that has been up to date on their system for the past 2 years.

Well done again, Vodafone. I'll be costing them a lot more in Ombudsman fees if they charge me that $2.20. Over it.

Not to mention the constant dropped calls mid-conversation.

15717 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Vodafone is terrible. at 18 Feb 2011 12:26:22 PM
Don't know where to begin - long term problems with both customer service and coverage. Latest problem? Noticed that I had a direct debit coming out of my bank account from vodafone which I never permitted - I have never given any company permission to regularly direct debit my bank a/c. Vodafone had my credit card details after I made a one off direct debit last year. Phoned up to complain and request that my contract (due to end june) be cancelled due to this issue and other extensive problems and instead of honouring my request to cancel the contract, they offer me a 'free handset upgrade' and suggested an iphone. However I find later that the 'free' upgrade was only if I agreed to another 12 or 24 month contract - so not really 'free'! During this phonecall I had to speak to numerous different departments and each time I was transferred to the next department, the phonecall was disconnected. I would wait for a cbk just in case but after waiting for a bit, I would phone back and be told I would have to wait or get a cbk. I would select the cbk option and when somebody would finally call me back, the call was disconnected again. I was getting so freakin annoyed. I was on the phone to vodafone on and off for around 3 hours and I had to phone them around half a dozen times during this time due to dropped calls. I am constantly having businesses, friends and family claim that they have been trying to phone me with no success, however no missed calls appear on my phone - occasionally a voicemail comes through hours or days later. The internet coverage is crap. I'm so sick of the vodafone pain...........................there are real staff working for vodafone - they just appear to work in another country, NOT australia.

Another issue at Vodafone

http://www.theage.com.au/technology/technology-news/vodafone-forced-to-give-free-calls-after-recharge-debacle-20110218-1ayti.html

The article states at the end that

'The telco says it has since increased the capacity of its network and resolved most of the major issues around dropped calls and delayed texts and voicemails.'

This shows that they no longer deserve any patronage from anyone. Nothing has changed at Vodafone but they are constantly trying to make people think they have changed.
18 Feb 2011 09:44:56 PM: I am really glad they gave ppl free calls. It's crap that they can't get their sh*t together and let ppl recharge, but at least this time when they stuffed up they admitted to it and gave ppl something back.

If this had happened 3 months ago (it all changed thanks for vodafail.com) then they would have made ppl call india and chat to Reggie for 3 1/2 hours, only to be told that nothing was wrong and it was all in their head.

I will never use vodafone again as long as I live, but good on them for doing one, very very small thing right (for once!).

15665 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is ripping me off at 17 Feb 2011 06:20:48 AM
I've renewed my contract with vodafail twice and have always been with themn. It wasn't until recently that I realised the service I was paying for was supposed to be better than it is.

At least for the last 3 years I've experienced dropped calls, poor reception, inability to connect to 3G data and I always assumed it was the phone or just normal. It takes me anywhere between several minutes to an hour (if I leave it that long) to get my iPhone 4 to connect to the internet in order to retrieve emails or for an app (that's if it'll even connect at all).
Sometimes even if I restart my phone it still won't connect. Meanwhile my friends on other networks have no or little problems with any of this. I've missed calls due to poor reception and haven't got the voicemail until over 24 hours later. The funniest thing is when my phone is in my pocket with reception, a call doesn't come through but a text message from the person does come through moments later saying they tried to call and I haven't moved! WTF?!

So I've reported this to vodafone and haven't heard anything in over 7 days... If I don't get some kind of resolution I'll be requesting my contract be terminated due to a breach under the Trade Practices Act 1974 subsection 58(b) whereby: "a company shall not... accept payment or other consideration for goods or services where, at the time of acceptance... the corporation will not be able to supply the goods or services within the period specified."

I've also joined the Class Action suit to try recoup the money spent on a service not provided to me as promised under contract.
17 Feb 2011 10:37:18 AM: why will you re contract with them when you specificly know they have issue with coverage honestly its like buying home brand over normal brand.
you had an option to go telstra and optus

I must start with saying that the customer service staff at the new Pitt street mall Vodaphone store were very good and this in no way is an issue with them.
After recieving my HTC Desire HD(Vodaphone) on boxing day i have had nothing but problems with the network . Constant dropped calls in the Sydney CDB,Hurstville & Pennant hills areas.
To add to this the 3G network works when it feels like , my phone constantly either drops calls or has such poor reception that i can barely make out what the person is saying .
I have started highlighting my bill with the dropped calls and noting the times that my 3G fails & the sms's dont send however i am not sure what to do next . I also have a Telstra Iphone 4 ( Work phone ) which works at all times and is super quick while the Vodaphone network is down which makes the issue even worse

If i have two more years of this i

12 Feb 2011 08:22:25 PM: Bars mean nothing with these clowns, fone shows coverage yet nework overloaded and calls fail, data slower than dial up. Dont wait for them to fix it, they tell lies, I finally went to telstra, my business is no longer suffering while vodacrap deny any problem, or when the problem was undeniable, spent 8 weeks promising to "fix it by tomorow"

In wa the 3G network has gone down hill badly. From no reception to dropped calls. This is only on the 3G network. I have forced my phone into 2g mode otherwise I would keep missing about 50percent of my calls. Of which my voicemail may alert me to this 48 hours afterwards. I'm even paying $10 per month for data that is useless.

15498 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Useless at 11 Feb 2011 02:56:04 PM
So a couple of months ago my Oct/Nov bill came to 320 bucks! Every other bill has always been in line with my $79 cap and never over and I definitely didn't use it more that month than any other... It was however the month that my phone started dropping calls, losing signal and generally being totally unreliable.
I've contacted customer services a number of times about the billing issues - which they say are not their issue but mine and clearly that's what I spent... It's ridiculous.
Anyway yesterday I finally had enough and rang customer services to cancel my contract because of that and the constant drop outs - they basically tried to say that it was obviously that I lived in a poor coverage area! Paddington in Sydney - I tried to make the point that the drop outs are TOTALLY RANDOM and occur for no apparent reason, I can be with other Vodafail customers and they'll have signal or vice versa but they didn't really believe it.
Anyway they're now doing an investigation - which I think is a total waste of time. they need to admit that there's a problem with individual phones dropping off the network not just the network coverage.
They also need to sort out my ridiculous bill and stop denying that also!!!
I totally agree with complaint 15280:
In short: Billing problem; dropped calls; incorrect advice/ promise by vodafone staff; on-hold for too long; overcharged; poor customer services....
11 Feb 2011 10:35:25 PM: so stupid. my phone is also going under investigation. ridiculous. ten working days the guy told me. thats two weeks.
17 Feb 2011 09:41:50 AM: Just go to the TIO and end the pain. They told me they were 'investigating' it. I really believe the only way it will be sorted out is to use the TIO. I found them extremely helpful. 10 emails to VF..k over issue and phone calls and visits to store didn't.

10 Feb 2011 04:50:21 PM: sign the class action with Piper Alderman, it will take up to 2 years, and you won't get all of what you lost, but you will at least be likely to get some compo after it goes through the courts!
11 Feb 2011 02:42:25 PM: If you're problems are that bad it's probably not the network but either your phone or sim card, WA has a service centre that can test your phone and swap your sim out? Have you tried either of these options or are you just wasting your time complaining...

I live and work in the city and have tolerated bad service for the last few months, but now I am almost 9 months pregnant and NEED to know that I will be able to use my phone if need be rather than getting the old 'No Service' message(have no landline). I have actually broken the on/off button on my phone from overuse, trying to get it to research for the network. I have sent Vodafone numerous emails, and they appear to be helping, asking for three examples of failed calls in the last 78 hours - I keep telling them that no service is my main issue and they keep asking me for examples of calls. How can I give examples of failed/dropped calls when I can't even make calls to begin with?!!! Grrrrr

15280 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Hopelessly ridiculously pathetic at 6 Feb 2011 07:38:54 PM
We have renewed 4 new plans with Vodafone 3 months ago and the following happened:

All 4 plans were incorrected registered and despite spending over 4 hours with Vodafone, and on each occasion being reassured that they have been rectified, all 3 plans are still being overcharged;
Existing auto debit details did not roll over and I was threatened with a disconnect notice by SMS;
One of the new phone was both incoming and outgoing call barred and we found out that there were 3 months of payment in arrear when we first used the phone; we informed Vodafone calls were never made and no inovices were received either by mail, SMS or email while the plan detail were also incorrect. Vodafone denied our information and informed that invoices were sent to a Hotmail account; however that particular account is not attached to a Hotmail; SO THE VODAFONE STAFF MADE THE STORY UP!!!!;
We were informed that credit will be applied on the incorrect charges and late fee will be waived; as of today, they are still showing on our bill; We have been over-charged and the so called Help Desk is not helping at all!
And yes, calls have been dropped every now and then even in Sydney Metro

In short: Billing problem; dropped calls; incorrect advice/ promise by vodafone staff; on-hold for too long; overcharged; poor customer services and irresponsible directors!

Data speeds are shocking and have constant dropped calls. I see the following messages appear so often on my phone I'm starting to think it's an iphone feature ''Cannot activate cellular data' 'No Service' and 'web page unable to load. Why am i paying $79 a month for again?

Vodafail can go f@## themselves but before they do that i need to get out of my contract.

The sad thing is, when i do move to another service provider, I will be so greatful for an average of 3-4-5 bars of service that i will think it's a priviledge rather than a standard of service I SHOULD receive, that i'm paying for.

Feels good to vent. :)

Since July 2010, I have experienced everything from no data coverage in my suburb at the weekends to call dropouts, delayed text and voice messages. I have spent up to 2 hours on Saturdays and even working hours (almost every 3-4 weeks since) trying to explain the problems as they occur to Vodafone customer service teams. My company-issue mobile, my personal mobile, my iPad and mobile broadband are all with Vodafone. In fact, in early December, the security alarm system in our premises was triggered at 1am but the security company was unable to get through on my mobile - and - I didn't receive their voice message until 12noon. Surprisingly - and - fingers crossed, my issues seems to have improved since all the publicity about Vodafail.
Although, an incident that occurred this week has prompted me to post this.
My boss is who is also a Vodafone customer is currently overseas. He travels overseas on a monthly basis. This week, he received a text from Vodafone advising they have suspended his service. Account is up to date, ie: no outstanding invoices. When I enquired as to why service was suspended, I was told that there was an UNBILLED roaming charge amount of $3,000+ incurred in the current cycle and that this amount had to be paid before service would be re-activated. Notwithstanding the fact that my boss has been a long standing Vodafone customer, frequently incurs up to $6,000 in roaming charges AND account is always paid in full when due.

I live and work in the Perth CBD. In my office I very seldom get any 3G coverage and when I do it is almost unbearably slow. I frequently get dropped calls or 'call attempt failed' when I try to call people.
I think this level of coverage in a CBD is totally unacceptable considering the money I pay each month.
Vodafone's customer service is almost nigh-on impossible to reach. I havent got 45 minutes to throw away on hold waiting to speak to a customer 'service' representative.

8 Feb 2011 12:13:05 PM: I have just spent 40 minutes with the Vodafone techincal team to be told that they have to initiate an investigation in to the network in my area and that I have to give them 3 examples of my phone dropping out or never connecting. I gave them this & now they will only test the 3G network and come back to me in 5 business days, to which I won't have any service for this whole time, THEN I have to switch to the 2G network, try this for 24 hours, get 3 examples and then call back to get that investigation lodged also. This will then take another 5 working days, so all up half a month of no service before they will even contemplate cancelling my contract penalty free. So after experiencing constant dropouts, coverage fails and delayed SMS (great for when you're on call and the alerting uses sms...) I decided to call and lodge a second complaint.

Midway through my phone dropped out, the vodafone customer service rep called back, but because of the coverage dropout it went straight to voicemail. So far they are escalating to their network team, however this has been ongoing since I took up a vodafail service.

I am now looking at a second service with a different provider as I cannot use my phone reliably for work which is 100% the reason I purchased a smart phone with data.

I don't use the data service as it never works, I don't sync my email as it never works (works for all other users on non vodafone), I miss alert SMS's and have call dropouts.

Thanks Vodafone for the quality service!

Next stop will be the TIO and asking vodafone to release me from my contract.
30 Jan 2011 02:44:05 PM: i bypassed vodafone due to their pathetic service and went straight to TIO. they are now letting me out of my contact and waving the cancellation fee.

3 Feb 2011 01:19:11 PM: Third complaint has now been lodged and am approaching the TIO today.

Directory service SMS's don't come through and when you ring back you get 2 messages directly?!!

Coverage in North Adelaide is dying a slow death. Have seen a significant drop in 3G data speeds (proven with speedtest.net) and also numerous (2-3 a day) dropped calls, or outgoing calls that just won't connect in the first place (even with 5 bars reception).

It's becoming impractical to use data features due to intermittent service, and quite embarrassing when important calls are dropped.

Are these issues prevalent with the other carriers, or is Vodafone struggling with the increased demand from all these new 3 mobile users?

25 Jan 2011 09:01:59 PM: As best as some of us can tell, The vodafone network is currently not set up to deal with the latest generation of Smart Phones. Basically they are very bandwidth happy, and are always connected to the network. The claim by building a few 850 frequency towers around the joint, that the smart phones will jump on those towers, leaving everyone else for the other towers. But in all honesty I think they are going to need a heap of them before they even have a chance of fixing the problem (imo looking in from the outside).

Multiple problems. Phone calls drop out, I get the 3G symbol on my phone but surfing the web is such a painful experience. Slow or non responsive. But this is the part that is the worse.

Last November I requested exit my current Vodafail contract and sign up to a new 12 month contract for my wife and I so we could both get the iPhone. I wanted to pay off both fonts over 12 months, which they agreed.

My first bill came through for over $1K. I rang to dispute and the rep told me that this was an error and he would rectify. I checked my account on the Vodafail website about a week later and it still showed over $1K. I rang again and the 2nd rep said she didn't have any notes about this, but would process and change so I would only pay over 12 months.

Then in December while I was on the Gold Coast (with the worst mobile service I ever experience) the direct debit took place for over $1K.

When I came back to Sydney to do some post XMas shopping my credit card was declined. When I found put the direct debit went through, I immediately rang Vodafail.

The rep apologized etc and couldn't see why this wasn't amended from before XMas. This rep promise to fix and a refund would come through with 6 working days.

Six days later - no refund. Another call and I was told another 6 days.

Another 6 days - no refund. Another call an I was told that it's actually 10 working days. Ok fine.

Another 4 days no refund. Another call, more apologies and another 3 more days.

Another 3 more days and mo refund. Another and this supervisor said that because of the Queensland floods, there has been another 3 day delay because they have back offices in Queensland.

Another 4 days (today) and - surprise - no refund. Today's supervisor was puzzled at the Queensland flood reason given before - she said they have back offices in Queensland but none needed to deal with my problem.

Incredible. I'd say about 20-30 phone calls (with repeated constant dropped calls) and mistake and blunder one after the other and still no resolution in sight. I requested for the manager of today's supervisor to call me back.

Complaint to TIO about 7 days ago and now jut waiting.

This has been singlehandely the worst experience I've had with any Telco - and I've been a customer for maybe over 10 years now.
25 Jan 2011 06:43:20 PM: F*cK, this isnt right. How can they do this?????!!!
25 Jan 2011 07:11:33 PM: that is fucking rediculous!!! hope you get your money back. what a joke
27 Jan 2011 02:45:35 PM: Here's an update - i spoke to a manager who even gave me her extension and profusely apologised. Said couldnt do anymore except send emails to some back office to priorotise this case. During the conversation the call dropped and when she rang back she said she wasn't sure why the call dropped. I couldn't help it - i said "It's because of your network".

She mentioned that the money was applied to my Vodafone account (????) so essentially my future bills will come out of that credit!!!! I was fuming at this stage.

She promised to rectify this, and then she started asking about the network service. So i explained that the network overall is worse now than before. Internet service is horrible, I even said where i work there is a major Vodafone office with a tower etc and I was getting back service there.

She said that she will call back in an hour (i was on my home from work and on the train at this point) and she said she would transfer me to the technical team who will run tests etc.

She said that if it was proven that I'm not getting the service I signed up for then I should be able to get out of my contract with no exit fees. BUT I couldnt keep the phones (which is what I really want as they are both unlocked).

So anyways - an hour later - no call.

Brilliant service - even from the manager. Today is the end of the 10 day period - i'll be following up with the TIO now.

Fingers crossed.

I was speaking to another vodafone user during off peak hours, and in the space of 20 minutes I had 4 call droputs. Considering we are both in Metro Melbourne there is no excuse for such bad service.

14573 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is MEGAFAIL at 25 Jan 2011 11:23:44 AM
Crap data speeds, virtually no 3G coverage in SW Brisbane, delayed messages, Delayed voicemail, dropped calls, failed text messages. I waiting 90 minutes on hold to customer care, operator answered then call dropped, like they hung up on me. Complaint now lodged with TIO as i think 90 minutes on the phone to only be disconnected is a fair and reasonable attempt to fix my problems. How come when Lara asks "is it for the number your calling on?" they cant identify my number and call me back?? Fail cant wait to get out of there

To summarise:

- Poor reception

Solution: switched to another provider. I recommend Telstra. Superior in Reception and 3G coverage; even in underground carparks.

14537 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Didn't know I wasn't alone... at 25 Jan 2011 06:13:40 AM
Heh, I thought it was just me having issues. I get dropped calls inside my house on the eastern side of footscray, near the city, bad internet connections at home despite showing several bars of reception (fluctuating), internet doesn't work as often as it should, even if I'm standing in the middle of the city, near the queen vic markets. I've missed a few calls now too without any ringing and gotten some pretty delayed messages.

The gotcha is... Vodafone is the only telco that I can find that will allow me to use the included value of the caps to call overseas and I do so quite often to keep in touch with family...

Anyone got any advice??

I've been with Vodafone on / off again for a little over 5yrs and have never experienced any problems with them or my handsets!! I previously owned a Nokia N82 (that was with 3)and the phone did it's job. I wanted to upgrade and got sucked into getting an iPhone 4 which is Vodafone.

*Dropped calls
*Unable to talk longer than 2hrs, have to ring back and start again
*Delayed messages - local / international
*I'd say 80% of the time when I send a PXT / MMS it fails on me, have to restart phone and then resend it!!
*Reception goes up and down (Liverpool area)
*I've now lost all photos / videos / voice recordings that have been sent between my girlfriend and I!! What's up with that??? They haven't been deleted off my iPhone!!

Thanks for reading

Have a blessed one... :-)
24 Jan 2011 01:42:12 PM: Sounds about par for the course, have you been in contact with 1555 and what was their response???
25 Jan 2011 09:45:43 AM: Thanks for your reply! I've tried ringing about half a dozen times without success! *waiting, waiting, waiting* I gave up in the end!! *sad face*

Thanks once again!

Have a blessed one... :-)

14427 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is money for nothing at 24 Jan 2011 11:39:09 AM
I signed up with vodafone in september 2010. Ever since I've had unreliable internet connection and call dropouts. About 3 weeks ago internet connect became all but non-existent (1 hour plus to DL a 1MB file - thats worse than dial up if I recall). The reason I signed up was the fact that they offered more data allowance (1.5GB + 1GB for 12 months). I cannot use ADSL at my home so I was planning to supplement my telstra wireless connection with my phone (as a portable wifi hotspot). but the phone (as a wifi hotspot) is as useful as tits....you know the rest. I also use email frequently while I'm out and about for work and study so I've been considerable disadvantaged and inconvenienced with gmail conversations that are "unable to load". I tried 5 times to call 1555 but I'm not prepared to wait over 1 hour to have my call answered ( I think thats reasonable), they alo mentioned a 'callback' option on the website but Lara didn't seem to want to tell me that. Anyway, I called one sunday morning and it was answered almost immediately but an Indian man who asked if I'd turned the phone off and on again or tried the SIM in another phone. I didn't say it, because he's only doing a job, but I thought why should I have to try the SIM in another phone - I got a phone from vodafone brand new. anyway, apparently a 'team' of engineers will investigate the problem and call me back within 5 days....here I wait with bated breath. If not call in 5 days I will contact the TIO and get out of this contract......straight to telstra for me (never thought i'd say that.
24 Jan 2011 01:13:03 PM: I have been waiting more than 5 working days..........biggest lie in the world 'We will ring you back'

14383 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Can't talk - texting at 24 Jan 2011 08:20:35 AM
I have been with Vodafone for about 10 years. It has worked really well until Christmas 2011.

Following Christmas reception has been appalling both at home and at work. Repeated dropped calls, delayed texts, numerous missed incoming calls.

I called customer service on 1555 and went through to the coverage problems section. Went through a few diagnostics. The reception problem was escalated to the network technicians - I should hear back in about a week. I am now using 2G (not 3G) to work around the problem.

I am not happy with the reception problems but the customer service I experienced was ok.

24 Jan 2011 08:57:04 AM: 2010 not 2011
24 Jan 2011 09:17:12 AM: This is exactly what has happened to me. i have used Vodafone for prepaid for years and moved from Telstra to them a few months before Xmas 2011 because of their great plan deals.. i never had a problem until a wk or so before Xmas where the service in my area was horrible i could not even make calls, msg or use the internet on my mobile. within a wk viola, my phone just stared working again. Come Friday 21/1/11 the same thing has started happening again!!

40 minutes ago I rang vodafone to lodge a complaint about my service etc. The lovely lady Lara, told me it would be more than 30 minutes.. Ok fine fine, 40 minutes later Lara calls back,"I will put you through to someone now", music begins playing I am waiting 3 minutes later the call dropped out on me. So now I call back and ask Lara to call me back again.. If it happens one more time I think I am going to stick pins in my eyes.. This is crap, I can't even connect to an employee without the call disconnecting.. *bangs head against the wall* thanks a lot vodafone!

14273 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Infinite Fail. at 23 Jan 2011 08:36:26 AM
I'm on the $55 p/month post-paid sim only plan... when i signed up it was 500mb of data a month, now it's 1Gb, not only did they fail to tell me this but when i rang customer service (after waiting 25mins) to get it upgraded... THEY SAID THEY'RE BUSY AND WOULD DO IT LATER?!?!?!?!?!?!?

THEN, I got a bill saying I owe them $172.80 for this month because of excess data usage. WTF. I figured it's just because they hadn't added the extra 500mb yet... then i look at the bill for when i supposedly used so much data and what do you know, THEY HAVE ME USING $25 OF DATA ON A DAY WHEN I WAS ON WIRELESS ALL DAY!!! and more data used on days where i was working all day and had my phone off... I don't have apps that use the internet that much so how about Vodafone stop MANUFACTURING my bills. These lies are bullshit, and i'm not paying that bill, not with all the dropped calls and late texts etc.

VodaFAIL.
23 Jan 2011 08:49:00 AM: There's no way for them to bill you when your using wifi. Your phone must of dropped out of wifi or you had an app downloading in the background or you had tethering enabled.

System may of been down when you called to do a rateplan change that's why they told you to call back later

3 dropped calls in a row while driving - 1 to parents & 2 to clients.
What did I expect? The usual drivel so I don't even call these days. It can't be great for a client to hear "Sorry if I drop out, I am with Vodafone."
Their reply "Oh - I understand. That's OK."

It's now hit the masses...

14119 Someone from Somewhere else thinks vodafone is Failing for a long time at 22 Jan 2011 07:45:56 AM
Where to start? I live in Dunedin NZ, actually in a village just 25Km south of the city centre. For 14 YEARS I have been trying to get coverage improved by VF! The latest generation of phones are worse than ever, coverage is now less than 25% of what it used to be and yet I still have to pay full monthly rates. Multiple calls, letters, pleadings, letters to the papers. NOTHING but broken promises! Aside from no coverage or the multiple dropped calls the international roaming charging is nothing short of a rip off. My latest bill of $500+ following two weeks in OZ is case in point. I even turned OFF all data roaming services and made or received hardly any calls as I was using Skype over a WiFi connection. There are charges for data on the account that don't even conform to their own reported charging plans. Go figure?
24 Jan 2011 12:14:11 AM: Hey- that's Vodafone.

14080 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Dropped calls & reception issues at 21 Jan 2011 09:43:44 PM
I changed to VF 2 years ago and regret the day I signed the contract. I've had problems since that first day. I live 10 minutes from the CBD in Adelaide and my phone constantly drops out. Friends say they text me messages that I hardly ever get or they appear hours later. I work in the city of Adelaide and I sometimes do or sometimes don't get reception in my office. I've got 2 months to go and I can't wait to get out of this terrible nightmare...good bye VF
25 Jan 2011 05:53:55 AM: Why wait? Complain-if they don't let you go, TIO. Click on the "How to Complain" link on this site before you even start, because you will need records.

14026 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is appalling at 21 Jan 2011 06:59:10 PM
I have experienced dropped calls and messages that never went through both to me and by me. My bills have been huge, I have never just had to pay the cap amount. I am beginning to think that they have ripped me off big time. I rarely use the internet and have stopped making calls due to the high cost of my bills. I have complained many times to the outlet where I was sold the phone and others, only to be told "bad luck you are stuck with it until your contrat finishes". I have spent hours on the phone waiting for customer service (what a joke!!). Vodaphone are innept, incompetent and downright rude. They are morally bankrupt and should be held to account for the grief they cause people.

Extremely unhappy customer!!
