Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

14002 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Way too fail at 21 Jan 2011 05:37:08 PM
I have been a vodafone customer since last four months. It was okay at first place but has been weird since last few weeks. I have been dealing with dropped calls, no network coverage, more than a day delay of voicemail, delivery failure of text messages and mms within Australia and even overseas, very very slow 3G, takes forever to load even facebook. No wonder I am one of those furious vodafone customers. We neef to put a pressure on them for a month free of service, wont pay monthly cap. Hope this helps the vodafone authority to fix it with a promise of good service!

13951 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Vodafone is a disappointment at 21 Jan 2011 03:10:29 PM
I have noticed for some time that when I pick up my mobile to answer a call (before enough time has lapsed that it's transferred to voicemail) the call would disconnect at hello. At other times when I make a call I can hear the ring tone but I cannot get through, the call disconnecting itself before reaching the other person. Because I don't use my mobile as much as other people do, I've just put up with the problem because I can't be bothered to switch to another telco. It was only after I read several SMH articles about Vodafone issues that I came to realize that this problem I was experiencing and still do is widespread in the Vodafone network. It's truly disappointing, Vodafone comes off as being unprofessional and not trustworthy.

13928 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Pretty fail at 21 Jan 2011 02:44:12 PM
Mainly very inconsistent 3G, I am in CBD and get very poor response.
Only really experienced serious call issues this week (not withstanding the December outage).
Had numerous dropped calls, inability to place SMS , but seem to receive ok (of course I don't know how many I am NOT receiving.)
Made worse by lack of local support after 5pm (call centre closes at 8pm EST)
Incorrect information about fault line being open 24 hours (still haven't found a 24 hour number).
Promises to receive call back after several hours attempting to connect were not followed through until I complained in writing.
Have asked to be released from our current contract so that we can find a provider that can provide.
We pay over $5000 per year for mobile services and do not think it unreasonable to be able to get coverage and response. Back to Telstra as soon as I get that release.

13862 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Worst telco ever at 21 Jan 2011 12:47:25 PM
I have been with Vodafone for 6 weeks and have had 95% dropped calls. This spans usage from Mornington Peninsula to Armadale to Torquay. It occurs whether I am driving, walking or sitting absolutely still. How can I be on a call, sitting still with full reception one minute and the next droppped? Did someone move the reception tower? Ridiculous.
21 Jan 2011 01:20:00 PM: It's cos priority users came onto that tower and shunted you off.

Call dropouts and I cannot call any number with +61 (oz code) at the front of numbers or any other nations code. I havent experienced delays in sms though.
21 Jan 2011 01:29:02 PM: 0011 61 and then the overseas number (or local mobile number) minus the preceeding zero.

13790 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Not happy. at 21 Jan 2011 11:20:35 AM
I had never really had many issues with vodafone until about 3 months ago when I started a long distance relationship. My last 3 bills have all been over $300 due to me going over my cap, which is understandable, BUT when I went in to the vodafone store to discuss moving to a higher plan, they told me to call customer service, who in turn told me that as there was no plan higher than mine anymore I would have to pay a $540 cancellation fee and then re-enter another 24 month contract on a different plan. Ridiculous! I was happy to stay loyal to vodafone and pay a bit more each month for more useage, but I think they took one look at my last 3 bills and realised I'd keep paying them the $300-$400 phone bills I was racking up! Very disappointed, never get good coverage and constantly get dropped calls too.

I have delayed voicemail, no network coverage at times even when I am in CBD, my calls regularly drop out or last no longer than 2 mins and when I complained to Vodafone, after waiting for 6 hours for them to call me back, my mobile dropped out just after I launched into my complaint! Customer service of course did not bother to ring back. So not only do I have numerous Vodafone problems, I can't even contact them to complain about it. We recently moved and have no home line and I am so dependent on my mobile, yet everyday, it fails me. Driving me to have high blood pressure!

Have lost count of the number of times Vodafone just drops my call. It happens at least 50% of the time and usually after about 10 minutes. The call just drops. It nearly always happens when making Vodafone to Vodafone calls, which are free excpet for 20c flagfall. I used to think it was a deliberate move to make some sort of money from these calls by making me call again, therefore paying another 20c!!!!!

Dropped calls, data connectivity almost always falls down to EDGE instead of 3G. Quite often I get voicemails without missed calls (when I'm well within the coverage) and people tell me that they were routed directly to my voice mail.
I can't rely on my cell phone any longer !!

13654 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Epic at 21 Jan 2011 09:46:31 AM
Vodafone customer for 3+ years here. I've been enduring constant dropouts, flakey reception and poor 3g data speeds for too long. I have an iPhone 3GS in 24 month contract with Vodafone (expiring December 2011, which can't come too soon.

I am in a rather unique situation because I also have a work phone which is an iPhone 3GS as well, same version of OS (4.02), but work phone is through Telstra. Telstra coverage is almost flawless (I travel interstate for work weekly) and always where I have limited to no coverage (3G or normal network) on my personal Vodafone iPhone 3GS I can compare to the Telstra coverage on the work iPhone 3GS. Telstra is consistently better every time I check, and I don't think I've had a single dropped call on the Telstra iPhone.

Vodafone on the other hand I'd say 40% of my calls are dropped (yes, even when I'm in CBD area in different states), or get to the point where its chopping in an out and the person on the other end of the call cannot here me.

13590 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is extreme at 21 Jan 2011 09:15:16 AM
Here is a list of the issues I have had in the past 3 week I have been a customer.

1 - Multiple dropped calls when calling another Voda customer less the 1 km away with the CBD.

2 - Failure to set up a new pre paid sim x2. Firstly after completing 90% of the process I got transferred and needed to go through the entire process again with an actual person. Secondly after completing the entire set up process and waiting for my number to come through for 6 hours, I called and was told nothing had been recorded and needed to do it all again with the customer service rep.

3 - After setting up my vodafone online, i then needed to reset the password, entered my number and was then told i had failed to answer my security question 3 times and was locked out for 24 hours.

4 - Tried to register my Credit card online, never used it before ever, but was told i had tried to register it too many times and could not complete.

5 - after being told by a CSR that the amount i topped up would determine which prepaid plan i could go on, i had to call customer services to change plans.

This is all within 3 weeks, after 3 years living in the UK i cannot believe how backward and prehistoric the vodafone network is in Australia. It is extremely expensive and incredibly hard to do anything involving changes to your account.

Oh and i forgot, after picking up a my new sims from a vodafone shop telling them i needed micro sims for a iphone 4, he gave me normal sims. I returned to the shop and then cut them down, but i still needed to trim the smaller sim to phone the phone.

Joke. Is Telstra any good?
21 Jan 2011 09:41:19 AM: Telstra gives $200 credit welcome pack when you join for the first time.
21 Jan 2011 09:54:44 AM: was with 3 ever since they started and joined voda in September 2010 then just recently joined Telstra last week.

Telstra got the best reception and internet speed hands down. i had to upgrade my data pack to 2gb because it was that fast. With vodafone ive never gone past 1gb due to the super slow speed. Also! Less than 5mins waiting time when calling their call center!!

Telstra all the way!

13540 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is its not my phone at 21 Jan 2011 08:55:55 AM
it all started a few months ago when i couldnt connect to a call. i would need to attempt my call at least 10 times to get through. and the i would be happy chatting away and then bam call disconnects about 5 mins into the call with the message connection error. i rang customer service i was told the wait was over an hour so i chose the call back option. i did not receive a call back until 4 hours later and guy was not helpful. he kept telling me vodafone has no faults and that it was my phone. i kept informing him that i have tried several phones and i got the same error. he was insistent that i restore my factory settings so i did and it made no difference. in the past few weeks the service has gotten better but i would still like to see vodafone admit they were in fault and credit my bill for the inconvenience.

After spending 3 hours on hold to transfer to customer service, I was advised that the csr was going to transfer me to a department that could assist me. She transferred me to a call q that was closed. I was alos told that move form post pay to pre pay that I would need a new sim card which I bought and it was all a load of rubbish, didn't need to spend $30 at all. 13426 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is lies lies lies! at 21 Jan 2011 08:13:46 AM
after promising coverage at my girlfriends house in Freeing within 3 months... we are 1 year later and still no improvement. there is no signal there at all. Their promises were the reason we both signed up (and that we could get free calls to each other).

After a lot of pressure they released my girlfriend from her contract because of the lack of coverage and she paid out $100 for the phone which she was happy to do. They refuse to release me because even though i made it clear when getting the phone that i would be up at her house a lot of the time (2-3 days a week) i didnt put her address on the form i put my address because SHOCK HORROR THATS WHERE I LIVE!!!!!!

They refuse to let me out of the contract because i didnt list her address even though vodafone misrepresented what they were telling me when i signed up.(on a side note they also lied to my dad about coverage when he signed up 6 business phones with them).

The guy on the phone said "if i go to the shop, find the person who said this to me then call back and get them to admit that they lied to me when i signed up, then i could be released from the contract" WTF!!!!!!

Anyway, added to that i am now on my 3rd iphone because of signal loss and dropped calls which were blamed on the phone, i spent a month paying for the phone and data package for the iphone whist using some crappy basic nokia without internet on it. It was quite obviously a problem with the network not the phone.

Anyway the ombudsman said i have a case and is now investigating.

13389 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is lets not go there! at 21 Jan 2011 08:00:27 AM
I have a loyal Vodafone customer for many years (when they cool, funky and progressive!). Over the three months it has been disappointing to see Vodafone customer care quality service going downhill (once upon a time, Vodafone were great with customer service with people who actually did cared!). I have had problems like most who have experienced dropped calls, lack of reception in areas that once had full reception and receiving texts late (or never!), or lack of mobile internet coverage (I seem to be on "E" most of the time). The biggest disappointment, however, is the incorrect billing of phone calls and the adding extra charges out of thin air! This has happened to me twice already and it is really annoying and frustrating. I depend on my phone for business and it would be great if Vodafone came back to their grassroots and be the awesome telco that you wanted to deal with. Somehow, it seems to be only a distant memory...

I have a 12 months contract with Vodafone and I have a pre-paid too. I can seriously tell I am experiencing the worse coverage I have ever seen.
Inside my house I only have coverage in one room, and even in there calls are dropped making a phone conversation a hassle.
When I was in the hospital last year, I did not have coverage at all, having to walk outside and search for spots where I could get at least as much signal so I could send/receive text messages.
Not to mention the customer service which is really bad, I feel like an idiot when I have to talk to Lara!
Just my 2 cents ....

13350 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Distressing death due to delayed voicemail at 21 Jan 2011 07:46:44 AM
I'm a doctor and have a 24month iphone 4 contract with vodafone. There are no pagers available so the hospital is reliant on my mobile to contact me. The coverage inside the hospital fluctuates and so when I am in the centre of the hospital there is no signal. This week I had 2 calls from nurses 30min apart about an increasingly distressed patient. I was not notified of their call and received a voicemail alert 30min after the patient died from cardiorespiratory arrest. I have been troubled with dropped calls and delayed voicemail alerts since signing my contract in September 2010.

Disgruntled 9 year verten of Vodafail! (mind you only the last say... 2 years has been terrible)
*my sms's are delayed just yesterday one was delayed 6 hours, NOT cool
*A bucket load of "call failed" at least 10 a day!, NOT cool
*Consistently getting bull*#@! reception, NOT cool
*And dont even start me with the customer service. OMG after on average 30 minutes on hold everytime i get someone who not only cannot speak english very well, they dont understand me and its obvious they are not in the great land down under due to the silence when they are not talking, crackly sounds and massive delays when they are talking! I tried the 'go to the bloody store and talk to someone there' tactic and wow they apparently cannot help you at all ... out of the 7 different stores i have been to all but one told me to " call 1555 customer service" the other one asked if i'd like to know i could get out of my contract and in his words 'sign up to a better provider".... hmm EPIC VODAFAIL!

I have consistently faced dropped calls (Call Failed), data dropouts (need to restart the phone) and basically NO SERVICE for over 6 months now. I drive an 80km journey each way to work and have coverage for probably 15 minutes of it. I'm not in the bush, this is the F3 between Newcastle and the Central Coast. After growing tired of the 'network upgrade' story, I rang Customer support and left a message for them to call me back in 39 minutes. The automatic service did call me back, unfortunately I had three failed calls and gave up for the day. I tried again the following week and was escalated to the Network team.

No access to web services. I have complained twice to Vodafone, and have been given a months free "coverage" but have explained to them that I now have one month's free "non-coverage" and want the issue resolved. Sick of talking to people who can't resolve this issue.

I never really thought that I had a problem until this news about Vodaphone surfaced. I hardly use my mobile, only in emergencies, or recently when I moved house. But my pain is similiar to others. My mobile would drop out constanty, requiring me to ring again, again and again, or my caller having to do the same.
As to retreiving my message on the 121 number, sometimes I would have to ring this number between 5-10 times in row just to get the message.

13173 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is 40% at 21 Jan 2011 06:29:33 AM
I just assumed that Vodafone, being a smaller telco, had less coverage and I just had to deal with it. I miss the days when I lived in New Zealand, where Telecom NZ let you dial a certain number so you could reconnect to a dropped call and get a minute free!!

I don't make lots of calls, but the calls I do make are mostly poor in quality, with people on the other end asking me to repeat a lot of things, or are unable to hear me well at all. It doesn't matter where I am; in the city, on the road, or at home. When people I talk to ask what carrier I'm with, I say Vodafone, which is invariably followed with, "Oh, I see", in an understanding, sympathetic tone. It's embarrassing sometimes.

TXT messages are rarely an issue, and I communicate mostly via that method, but I know I use txt's more that I would normally because I feel like making a call is just too painful if I'm worried about call quality when I'm calling a customer, for example. I'm only 6 months in business and I've been using pre-pay, but now I need to go on a plan due to pre-pay costing me the earth, and then some. I've delayed going on a plan purely due to concerns with being stuck in a 2 year contract and having rubbish service.

Since Vodafail came into existence, I've bee keeping an eye on quality issues and I can confidently say, there are two main issues for me. 3G internet can be slow to start and transfer a few kilobytes of data (I only check Gmail and my business mail), and call quality is mostly abysmal.

Thanks to the publicity surrounding Vodafail, I now know those issues are widespread and I assume I'm similar to many people in thinking those issues were symptomatic of not being with Telstra, or other larger telco.

I used to work in a call center for Telecom NZ, so I instinctively knew calling to complain would be a waste of breath and time as call centers and their staff are not set up to deal with such issues. Besides, the 45 minutes it took the last time I called Vodafone to sort out a simple roaming issue was an extremely painful 45 minutes of my life, so I rarely call Vodafone unless I have a really simplistic inquiry!

I have a nokia e63. I am averaging 4 call dropouts per week, delayed sms and mms. Internet tends to run real slow at times and sometimes i cannot get onto the internet. I have also found that when the phone has full coverage at times and try to make a call it keeps saying connection error. Also when others try to ring the phone has full coverage but does not ring but goes to messagebank. I have to switch the phone off and on.
21 Jan 2011 05:46:26 AM: Sounds to me like the mobile tower in your area is conjested your mobile can get the signal but there is no capacity in the system to make or receive a call.

I live in Canberra, about 10k from Parliament House. Yesterday (20/1/11) three calls to my Vodafone at home from a car service company located 15k away dropped out, with contact only made through fixed line. This is not the first time this has happened; it it the first time I twigged the problem was with Vodafone. Could someone please advise on an alternative service. That works.

Many dropped calls. No reception or very poor reception in many areas of Perth, including my own home. SMS message taking many hours to be delivered. Sent one yesterday at around 11.30 am and it was received by my colleague, also in perth, at 7pm - 7.5 hours later!!We are a small business and rely on our Vodafone service to communicate. It has never been great, but recently it has become unacceptable. I was in Indonesia during December and was very impressed with the strong signal strength even on remote islands!

No Service, Repeated and numerous Dropped Calls, Unable to make calls or receive them even when phone indicates sufficient reception, people call but phone doesn't ring or even register a missed call and I only ascertain the missed call later when the phone indicates that a voice message exists, Text messages sent days before and not recived until days later and in one case I received a text message several months after it had been sent - though in that particular case I had actually received that text. It is an absolute disgrace!

12849 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT IN ALL ASPECTS at 17 Jan 2011 04:10:01 PM
Hi, I'm just here to advise all our Vodafone customers who are upset with our fantastic products and services to stay with us. Please give us another chance, we are taking our time attempting to somewhat resolve the national UMTS network issues via adding more GSM towers. That will alleviate capacity, since Vodafone has an strong client base of about 4.5 million highly satisfied customers and counting. Our merge with 3 has boosted our client base even further to about 7.5 million+, proving that Vodafone Australia is clearly the best option for a provider. If you all are still not satisfied with your current network service, then you should gently contact our wonderful foreign call centre. The adept technical support team will resolve the issues you are experiencing as fast as possible by offering unlimited escalations, language barriers, and misinterpretations. How great is that? You shouldn't be unhappy about our state-of-the-art Lara voice menu because she will provide you with all the transfers you need, including a bonus of up to 3 hour wait times, countless hours of exclusive music on hold, and the typical call cut off when you need it. We even conveniently provide no call back option since we don't want you calling back about how fantastic we are. Not only that, we have specifically poured our vast investment into Lara's voice recognition option so you all can enjoy a aggravating experience. We hope you believe she is a human, complete with our finishing touch of fake keyboard typing noises when she handles your account recharge or status. Vodafone is proud to announce the Infinite Plans. Not only do we want you calling and messaging as much as possible, we want every new or loyal customer to benchmark our network beyond the limit, leaving it unusable for other angry customers here. Included with the plans are super generous offers. You get frequent call dropouts points, almost no reception across the nation, exclusive sent messages arriving ages later, special barring of sending messages, lucky jackpot of erratic working calls, guaranteed lightning fast 3G speeds of 10Kbps average, and even limited access to your My Vodafone account. That's just unbelievable! If you are still not convinced to stay with Vodafone, then we'll let you in on a VIP offer. Your customer details will be accessed by criminals via our respectful employees. Don't worry, nothing is wrong, we'll reset the passwords every 24 hours and you won't be able to login to your My Vodafone account because we locked it down. If you are still concerned with that great offer, then just gently contact customer care, we'll offer you a special limited time 50% discount on your plan for 3 months. If you are going to leave Vodafone, then we'll give you another incredible offer of 3 months credit to your plan, so that you're stuck with us. Please stay, we don't want to face the TIO. Visit your local Vodafone store, the excellent caring staff will troubleshoot your mobile device or offer you another plan. This is Vodafone's primetime, please if you do leave, refer us to another potential customer because we need a big market share. Don't worry, Vodafone will take respectful and honest care with their customers. As you can see, there is no reason to leave. We offer the best products and services compared to other competitors. If you have any further inquiries, please gently contact our helpful customer care. If they can't get to you, try turning your phone on and off many times, otherwise find the ultra elusive call back option and we'll get back to you shortly as we are always so busy handling countless appraisals from our caring customers. If we don't get back to you, then wait 5 business days. If we get back to you and you're issue is not resolved, then it's not our problem. So please, we beg you not to abuse our sensitive compassionate staff in store. They are trying their absolute hardest to help you while serving under the company's oppressive commands. If your issues are still not resolved then give us a year to fix it, otherwise just leave with the help of TIO. All I can say is that those who leave are missing out on our famous marvellous products and services. We have the Infinite Plans, what more could you want? We are proud to be an Australian registered company with a call centre overseas. We hope you enjoyed reading this and are reconsidering your complaints. We hope you are convinced by what is stated here, to stay with us because you chose us for the best possible network in the first place. Thank you for choosing Vodafone. Power to you. - "An abused Vodafone Employee" P.S. - If you are having bad service for extended periods, please cancel your Vodafone plan as soon as possible, with the help of TIO for no penalty if you have to! They are so terrible recently. Rest assured.

17 Jan 2011 07:39:42 PM: hahaha. glad i kept reading
18 Jan 2011 10:10:31 AM: 'Excellent caring staff' What a joke, all they care about is protecting their own arses. Don't forget to vote using device near the main counter. My experience, first time bullied and threatened by 'manager', second time - someone who tried to help despite being hung up on 3 times by VF...ed 'Accounts' staff. Third time, didn't listen to my complaint despite restating it several times, could not understand I had a Virgin phone and a VF...ed mobile broadband and insisted on punching my mobile phone number into their system. Do I need to explain? Just utterly useless.
20 Jan 2011 06:38:41 PM: I knew it was fake because they were being polite.
21 Jan 2011 01:09:09 PM: I used to be a Vodafone staff member, I was always polite and used to get just as angry at the customer (non) care people as every one else. I left the job because my hands were tied by ridiculous policies. In the old days if your phone didn't work because it was faulty we just gave you a new one, none of this repair for months on end bullshit. If you dropped your phone in water that was it and there were options. If your service was shit you got released from your contract and when you wanted to upgrade there was an amazing team in Sydney and Hobart that we had DIRECT lines to and could upgrade from store stock on the spot.
There are very few of us old schollers left because the company , depite all their happy happy corporate meetings. DON"T CARE ABOUT THEIR STAFF. How are they in a position to give a shit about customers if they don't even give the staff the ability to help them.

I've been a Vodafone customer for a decade. They were excellent back then. Until 3 months ago my phone has went through call dropouts and bad reception. I can't believe what people are telling me is true, that there is serious issues with the network. I thought I was alone in this problem, but this vodafail site shows I am not. I think it's time for me to switch to Telstra since my problems are not resolved by the customer support that also dropsout. Why do you customers think Vodafone's network is failing on us?
14 Jan 2011 06:48:18 PM: too greedy, selling far too many fones than the network can cope with, money they have made should have been invested in the network but those nob heads wanted to look good by showing huge proffits. should have invested in infrastructure
14 Jan 2011 07:30:39 PM: i had problems with my network about 6 months ago i couldnt get my texts or send them and if i did get them it was the next day at like 4 in the morning, so i went to my local store they said they were putting more towers in, 3 months nothing still same problem, I call up vodafone care they give me a code to put in my phone it fixed the delay but now to this day no new towers and the service has gone down hill

11927 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Epic at 11 Jan 2011 09:01:08 AM
The service is just getting worse. I would have believed with all this negative media attention and even the issue of apology we would have seen some improvement, but it's actually becoming disgraceful.

I had raised a complaint on the 7/01/2011 which came through email today (11/01/2011) advising that my handset needs to be troubelshooted.

I've had different phones and sims and still the exact same problem regardless.

- Call dropouts
- Calls sent direct to Voicemail or Engaged tone
- 0% throughput for data service

I honestly cannot believe they still think this is somehow related to the handset. I know it's most likely procedure for them to troubleshoot the phone in the first instance, but they did not even acknowledge the current network issues across Vodafone.

I have however sent back a blazing response advising i will be keeping a log of all dropped calls, undelivered calls from customers and data throughput for the next month and cancelling my service if there is no imrpovement as a breach of contract on Vodafones part. Oh, and seeking legal action for lost revenue.
11 Jan 2011 10:59:12 AM: And the reply back was to troubleshoot the phone, despite the fact i already advised i had tried other phones with the same result. Interesting though, as soon as that reply came through i no longer see 2G or 3G data and Voicemail wont display.

I'm curious if they are just trying to piss me off further?

11810 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is criminal at 10 Jan 2011 06:09:22 PM
Thanks to the maps and info on the Vodafail website and other sources including the ACMA databases; I have been able to identify the locations and radiation patterns of the VHA Vodafone cells in the immediate area surrounding the suburb where I live in inner Brisbane. The results were interesting. I live approximately 450 metres from the nearest cell which has 2 antennas with radiation patterns facing directly towards me. Every day I have full and long interruptions to my ability to make and receive voice, SMS, and data on my personal Vodafone service.
In contrast my work phone (identical handset to my personal one) is on the Optus network and also uses the same physical site for its cells and has an identical radiation pattern from its antennas and NEVER has any interruptions to the service and has any break in service for voice, SMS or data!
I am sick of lost/missed calls, dropped calls, delayed/interrupted voicemail, SMS delivery delays of hours and days.
Vodafone you are not providing the services to the level that I was led to believe when I signed my contracts, you have failed to meet your obligations under that same contract and your network usability has dramatically deteriated since I contracted you to be my provider.
On a recent trip to a major NSW rural centre (A major town with a large University) I discovered the hard way that only EDGE data was available on Vodafone in the area instead of the 3G data services available on Optus and Telstra. Whilst this may be due to the handset not being 900MHz capable but that does not explain why my 900MHz compatible Vodafone USB modem with wifi docking station was also only able to obtain EDGE data services at approximately Dial-up speed!
Voda you suck!
10 Jan 2011 06:34:07 PM: Well said! Vodafone are failing to keep up their side of the contract.
11 Jan 2011 01:26:59 PM: I'm in a large rural town with an uni and I am admiring my beautiful full bars of 3G signal strength. Never have an issue here. I love my Blackberryand I love where I live.
13 Jan 2011 07:22:01 AM: Lucky you :-)
Maybe all of australias vodafone customers should move to your rural town. I finally found a spot in sydney 500meters down the road from me where I had 4 bars of reception in 3G.. I got so excited i had to youtube something. NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE REGARDLESS OF WHERE I HAVE BEEN IN SYDNEY !! Anyway... Then I moved about 10 meters and lost signal.

Vodafone you dont deliver a service you deliver unforgettable stress and pain.

We live in North Canberra - coverage is next to nothing (although has got better in the last week or so). I run a small business and use my mobile constantly between September-December last year I experienced probably close to 100 dropped calls or calls that just didn't connect.

I have been with Vodafone for close on 15 years (Digicall as they were when I started) and this is the worst I have ever experienced. I still have 18 months to run on my contract and I am just about over it all.
9 Jan 2011 06:03:45 PM: forgot to add - in March last year I changed my dongle (broadband) to a USB stick. They rang me said my plan was just about up - did I want to upgrade, as I had no problems I said yes. They did it all, cancelled the other plan, swapped my direct debit etc --- or so I thought. 4 months later I get a collection notice for my new account. They had still been taking the direct debit so I didn't understand. Well, the person who had done the upgrade hadn't changed the DD details - I was still paying for an account that had been closed!!! I have for the past 6 months been getting an account for a credit of $25 - I rang, asked for it to be refunded. The operator said they would just move the credit over to one of my other accounts, I said okay. 3 months on and I am still getting an account for $25 credit. Vodafone get your act together!!!
11 Jan 2011 11:03:22 AM: Yesterday - my husband who is also on Vodafail rang me and left a message, it was about picking him up because he didn't have bus fare - I finally got the voicemail message 2 hours later!!!

Also since posting this I have experience another 6 dropped calls!
25 Jan 2011 06:57:14 PM: Since posting these I have gotten out of my contract with Vodafail. There were no penalties, I just had to return my phone which I was still paying off. No problems there. I have now switched to another TelCo and have fantastic reception, no call dropout. So happy.

Bare in mind I did spend about 4hrs doing it as I was on hold for most of the time and my phone kept 'call failing'.... (not surprised) took about 5mins once I finally got through to the cancelations department.
Returning the phone is besides the point, you'll end up with a better phone signing with another provider and porting your old number. That's what I did.
Getting an X10 on Telstra Next G delivered on Wednesday.
9 Jan 2011 06:29:30 PM: good to hear
9 Jan 2011 07:47:36 PM: My contract runs out on 2 March. I wish to terminate my vodafail contract ASAP but I do not wish to return my handset. Given the recent troubles, do you think I could argue my point? Does anyone know the implications of not returning a handset?
9 Jan 2011 07:54:19 PM: you have to pay to keep the handset im pretty sure
9 Jan 2011 08:34:21 PM: make them a small offer to keep the handset
9 Jan 2011 09:10:27 PM: Just get the same gander from a different carrier on a different plan. Who cares if you have to return it as you'll have a new one.
Any how if you want to fight for that one I'd suggest contacting the telecommunications onbuson regarding it.
Is it just your hand set your so hooked on? My complaint is about service issues or lack of.

And for the record the X10 is rated highest out of all Smart Phones for best coverage in regional areas, which is where I am.
If you've got nothing civil and productive to write, perhaps you should go back to wanking over porn sites..

11439 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Call dropouts at 9 Jan 2011 03:33:00 PM
An extremely distressing event occurred yesterday morning. I was having some problems with a very good friend and they agreed to call me to discuss the issue and the call kept dropping out and attempts at redialling only failed to connect very briefly. They called later and the call dropped out again, and they tought i had hung up on them! This has caused me great distress and has resulted in an already sensitive situation with a friend escalating into a possible loss of a very good friend. I believe Vodafone is materially responsible for the failure to provide a reliable service. I live in an inner suburb of the ACT!!, so would expect reliable coverage when i need it. I have call logs to demonstrate the failed dial attempts and dropuots. I am considering pursuing this matter further and believe i am entitled to compensation for personal distress and loss.

11389 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Pretty Bad at 9 Jan 2011 12:37:02 PM
Yep Vodafone suck bigtime. Living in Franklin (Gungahlin) my wife and I supposedly have full coverage. Well that be a lie. We both have iphone 3GS's and we are lucky to get 2 bars when outside the house and when inside it is a crap shoot between 1 bar and nothing at all. Have also experienced call dropouts, text message issues (eg: receiver gets them 6 hours after sending them, can't send them at all). My favourite was when we went to see Bon Jovi in Sydney and the SFS. Missle of Sydney and I couldn't get coverage. And.... don't get me started on the call centre. Bravo Vodafone, Bravo!!!!!

11345 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Criminal at 9 Jan 2011 10:01:07 AM
Good to see that Vodafone is at least one thing: CONSISTENT. Now all of our records including credit card details, bank details and other identifying info of customers is readily accessible on the web to those that want to commit fraud, WHAT DOES ONE SAY HERE! Are they trying to make up for the lost income from call dropouts by charging for personal info to criminal organisations?
WAKE UP VODAFONE, NOW YOU REALLY HAVE NO WHERE TO RUN AND HIDE !!!!

11268 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Not Providing An Acceptable level of service at 9 Jan 2011 04:48:57 AM
I have had the same Service problems as Most- Delayed text send and recieve, dropped called ,etc. i decided to complain via email. The Alarm Flags in my head were raised when on the Vodafone Site i was required to enter my PIN NUMBER on a Non Secured Site (ie: the Secure Icon Was Missing from Vodafone Page). I hesitated about this but i guess becauase of anger at poor service i continued.
Now i read of a MASS distribution of Vodafone Client Details on the internet. NOW I AM VERY CONCERNED. Be Careful Dealing with Vodafone. YOUR PRIVATE INFORMATION IS NOT SAFE.

11200 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Exceptionally at 8 Jan 2011 11:45:09 AM
After reading some stories on this site, my problems with Vodafone are all too familiar with mainstream complaints. Call dropouts after a few seconds, meaning another call cost charge/connection fee a few times in one conversation; hardly any reception where I live (Bunbury area, south of Perth); trouble sending smsand pxt as most times pxt not even send!!; on hold for extremely long periods of time and when I finally reach customer support are then re-routed to same number to dial or even back to original person, have trouble understanding non-english support teams!!; no satisfaction when trying to quiz my account and they cover up inadequate esponse with 'fake' niceness; cut off my service without prior warning and generally...a great desire to cancel contract ASAP!!
Not happy.

11194 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is EPIC FAIL at 8 Jan 2011 09:47:43 AM
I have had ongoing problems with vodafail over the past few months with poor internet coverage, call dropouts and not being able to make calls when my iphone tells me i have full reception! "Call failed" is something i have become very familiar with. As of yesterday morning i have not been able to make or recieve ANY calls, however my phone is still telling me i have ample reception. Some messages are getting through and others aren't. I am extremeley frustrated as i am unable to contact vodafone via phone to find out whats going on nor can i find an email address on their website as the "contact us" email facility is down. How convenient.

I posted about my frustration on facebook and somebody suggested i need to turn of 3G, i have no idea how to do this or what this means.
8 Jan 2011 10:22:26 AM: It means setting your network from 3G to say, 2G. It is a setting somewhere on your phone (phone settings?) depending on what phone you have. On my blackberry is under manage connections -> mobile network options. You can always post back on facebook to ask for more detailed instructions.

11183 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is They called me with a script at 8 Jan 2011 08:12:36 AM
I have had all of the problems on this site, dropped calls, texts that would have been faster sent by pigeon post. So bing a good chipmonk i complained on the vodafone website and THEY CALLED ME - it was so unpected I wondered if it was a hoax. Some poor bozo on a chain read the script telling me that they had taken note of my problems and would TAKE THIS INTO ACCOUNT WHEN PLANNING improvements in the area. They had now idea when this would be. Rather than say I would take this into account when planning to pay my account, i went to Telstra and signed up. See you in 10 years vodafone.... that is if the company still exists. I have a new word for Vodafone's board to learn - NOW!

8 Jan 2011 05:05:33 AM: Go back to store, you are entitled to 2 high visibility fluro shirts to be used when making calls from middle of the street,
8 Jan 2011 05:28:16 AM: I also read they are giving fuel vouchers so we can drive around and try find areas of ok coverage, also they are giving out distress flares so if you get in trouble and network down, you can send a flare up and hopefully someone will help
8 Jan 2011 11:39:38 AM: What about food vouchers so you can eat while on hold for hours. Perhaps some arrangement about toilet breaks also?

11119 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Disgraceful at 7 Jan 2011 04:13:24 PM
I am (was) a very long term Vodafone Customer who up until approximately 12 months ago was reasonably content with their service. I accepted poor coverage in regional areas and was constantly assured every time I took out another contract that 'the network was undergoing upgrades and would continue to improve'. It has since got progressively worse and is now completely unreliable and for the most part, unusable.
Living near the Brisbane CBD I now suffer continuous dropped calls, 1 bar of 3G (if I'm lucky), sporadic and poor data downloads, late SMS or voicemails, poor battery life due to continual network searching and an Iphone that works wonderfully as an Ipod and media device. It certainly doesn't run up a huge phone bill as it is spectacularly useless as a phone.
I also have a 3G mobile broadband USB device that has failed to work at all in terms of receiving my supposed 3Gig of free data per month. After numerous complaints and the standard 'technical investigations' Vodafone agreed to reduce my account by $10 per month after it admitted I lived in a poor reception area (7 kms from the CBD on a hill????).
So now I have a 3G USB device that serves nicely as a paperweight and an Iphone that I can listen to music on.
I now have to rely on a Telstra prepaid (a common theme from others on your website) to make calls. My constant complaints to Vodafone in relation to my phone reception was constantly met with the advice 'Switch your phone to 2G'.
If I wanted a 2G phone I would have damn well bought one. I paid for a 3G service and I don't have it. However their complaints system is so poor, wait times are so long, and requests are met with vague and generic 'investigations' or 'transfers to another team' that their expertise in bureacracy and spin rivals that of 'Yes Minister'or a team of spin doctors on Red Bull.
I contacted Vodafone last night (3 separate calls with an average 40 minute wait time) and advised I was cancelling my service. I was offered the same...wait for it...'technical investigation' (read stalling tactic)and advised I would have to pay the rest of my 18 months of payments (nearly $1200) to be released.
I am now working in direct support of the Queensland Floods in a senior planning position and my phone is critical to my work. I now have the phone switched off and transferred to another phone in order to ensure I am contactable.
I intend to pay the full amount as I am sick to death of dealing with customer service and their mythical 'technical investigations' (you don't need to be a communications engineer to determine that the network simply can't cope with so many smartphones competing for bandwidth)and leave in absolute disgust. Evidence will suggest that a bad customer experience generally results in advising at least ten of your friends of your experience. I intend to tell as many as I can to steer clear of this network as it continues to offer cheap deals and handsets with minimal or no reception.
I have contacted Australia's largest Telco who are very happy to match Vodafones price and guarantee the quality of their network. They also offered an incentive to transfer (they must be doing a roaring trade) and expressed they are dealing with many Vodafone customers who have given up in sheer frustration.
I am now nearly $1200 out of pocket and disgruntled with exceptionally poor serice and coverage. Quite simply I have had enough and will never go back to Vodafone.
I sincerely hope many others are released from their contracts, I have chosen to give up rather than spend my valuable time battling a huge corporation.
Incidentally I am more than happy for anyone from Vodafone to assess the veracity of my complaints and view for themselves the poor state of reception in and around Brisbane (not forgetting the national highway system, regional areas, inside buildings and in full view of Vodafone towers). I doubt however, that they will and fully expect the customer service offer of a 'callback; in 24 to 48 hrs (again a familiar theme on your website)will fail to eventuate, as will my 3G reception.

11 Nov 2011 06:57:27 PM: I had the very same problem and i went to the tio and i ported my number to telstra and i even ported my iPad number from optus to telstra the iPad number was a usb modem number and now i got rid of the optus modem and desposed it into a mobile phone recicabale bin but i would like to see how the vodafone 850 mhz band works and i can get the vodafone 850 mhz in my area but i can't get 2.1 ghz umts 3g on vodafone or optus at leased they are upgrading there towers to 850 mhz and 900 mhz and lte 1.8 ghz and lte is alot more robust then 3g umts 2.1 ghz

11090 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Incompetent at 7 Jan 2011 02:06:37 PM
We have been receiving countless dropped calls, painfully slow mobile phone internet connection and wait times so ridiculous that you can only hang up in frustration. Not to mention a growing number of staff that are absolutely incompetent in dealing with ANY issues and that will constantly flick/transfer you to the 'right' department or just plain hang up on you. I have worked in a call centre before and I know how call stats work and the pressure the staff are put under to reduce reduce reduce their talk time which ends up with the staff just hanging up. It really is coming across as though VODAFONE is just getting too greedy by not training their staff and by downgrading their service and reception so as to lead a price war.

11019 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is horrible at 7 Jan 2011 07:13:43 AM
QUESTION??? I complained in december (the 26th i believe) about handset and network issues. Since lodging the complaint Vodafone have replied asking for bits of information (i.e. date and times of dropped calls) and admitted that the network in my area (southern sydney ) has failed. Despite this admission they wont reply to me with a solution, the last two emails have simply been them asking the same information over and over i.e. requesting my pin number (which they have asked for three times - you can see it in the reply history of the email) and asking about fault information which they already have. Has any one else had this? At what point do you go to the Ombudsman??
7 Jan 2011 07:16:18 AM: Go to the Ombudsman now and lodge a complaint. Once vodafone sees a complaint from the TIO they will actually start trying to resolve your issue because if they don't they get fined.
7 Jan 2011 07:19:37 AM: cheers, sick of the run around - just want the service i pay for.
7 Jan 2011 04:57:35 PM: I went to the ombudsman today because I went into a vodafone store the check when my plan ran out so I could move to telstra, and she tells me that vodafone have added an extra 3 months to my plan without telling me and I can't get out until April but couldn't tell me why. Phoned the ombudsman straight away and they're now investigatng it. Call them as soon as you can and lodge a complaint they are really good.

long gone is customer service.
30 min wait whilst listening to untuned radio to speak to a person in indian call centre who then explained to me they were extremely busy due to the merger of 3 customers... what crap. then i was told she would put through to another line so i could activvate my new sim. Aftter my transfer went through finally, the message said it was outside of business hours please call back and it hung up on me!
I have ignored the 30 or so dropped calls a day, thinking that was the price i had to pay for an "unlimited" service.. it never works. now i have iphone4 and cant get it working. silly me for resigning with what used to be a great company. now they are greedy.

Have been a loyal Vodafone customer for many years, but since I signed up for another 24 months to get an iPhone 3GS, have had nothing but network dropouts, dropped calls and missed calls. Because I use my phone for work, I had to switch off 3G to improve the network signal, but now download speeds are terrible, which pretty much defeats the benefits of having an iPhone!
6 Jan 2011 07:05:21 PM: Come on, Vodafone has fixed those few minor glitches in the system, it has to be a faulty iphone
6 Jan 2011 10:36:35 PM: @6 Jan 9:05pm

7 Jan 2011 06:17:46 AM: Come on, the problem cant be with the network, if its not hardware then perhaps its the neighbours vacuum cleaner causing interference

10956 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is EPIC FAIL at 6 Jan 2011 04:40:39 PM
In short I am a disgruntled Vodafone customer after using the service for more than 6 years. After my relentless attempts to contact Vodafone customer support to resolve my issues (the usual dropped calls, no reception, poor battery life and delayed voicemail messages) I have no choice but to search for a new carrier.

Just today 6th Jan 2011 - I called vodafone call centre 1st 3 times was cut off afer 30 mins each on hold - the 4th call went for 1hour 20mins. I complained about my famous "no service / searching" on my apple i-phone - Ihave 8 months remaining on my contract and all they can say is - Oh sorry sir - we are always upgrading our towers (6 years you told me this) and I will credit your bill this month - Big Woop$69 !!

Now they want to do a investigation to confirm the service / newtwork is fine in my area which goes for 2 weeks before they decide weather or not I can leave with out termination fees.

Its been 6 years thousands of $$$ Im sure you can spot me $500 and let me leave for good.
6 Jan 2011 05:55:11 PM: When in doubt, give the TIO a shout ;)

10901 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is a Blue Whale sized fail at 6 Jan 2011 12:42:19 PM
So I decided to give vodamoan a call last night while i made sure i entertained myself with something else... expecting to wait. 40 mins later they answer.. in a very helpful tone mind you.. all happy happy :-)

I politely asked them why the wait was so long and their explanation was umm... kinda... not quite convincing. They were very busy in their call center but not because they have lots of customers calling them lol.. short staffed? I asked... No. She tried to get me off topic.. so in response to her question hehe I asked is there something wrong with their network... she says No..quite a few times reassuring me!! I mentioned that I didnt want to sign up a new contract if they are having network problems and I have difficulties getting through to them. She assured me that wasnt the case, altho never did quite explain the delay. So she starts asking me questions about what service I am interested in.. and I reply... could the delay be a result of vodafone failing to provide the services they claim to in their contracts? Or could the volume of calls be some of the 10,000 plus people who have logded their complaint on vodafail.com in the last 2 weeks and the have legal action pending? Have you heard of them?? Or could it be some other people who are in the same position I am forced into with my vodfone where I have to chase reception, constantly deal with dropped calls yet still pay the bill etc etc. I was met with silence from her end.

All of a sudden she suddenly became aware of the network issues.. and apologetic when I started to tell her the problems they have caused me over the last year lol.. so nice of them to care so much they apologise!!

Yet the "so n so" would have signed me up then and there if they could have, even tho i made my concerns clear.

They are doing the same thing 3 was doing years ago.. playing down their problems till you gave up or died from stress.

Say NO to contracts !!

10863 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is call dropouts, random loss or reception, internet decides when it wants to be there or not be there... FAIL at 6 Jan 2011 10:43:02 AM
i can be on the phone and without any reasoning a call will dropout.
other instances 3g and internet just dont exist, or i get a stupid repeating message timeout, lost internet connection, (i'm on there alot as an ebayer)
i can randomly receive messages half a day later than when they were sent, and sometimes get the next one first,

BUT best of all, when my phone is with me (always) and i have plenty of so called reception, people will attempt to call me (also with plenty of reception) and the call will go straight to voicemail (without any call divert on)
i have only made the jump to voda from optus prepaid,
voda have been ok dont get me wrong but is there a better network provider out there?
anyone with any suggestions that live in the kingsgrove area in sydney?

10838 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is a Massive Fail at 6 Jan 2011 09:07:26 AM
I have been a Vodafone customer for over 10 years. I never had this much problems, the last few months have been plagued with dropped calls, no data connections. The area where I live (Hurstville) seem to be a massive black spot! even GPRS data converage is minimal and even that keeps dropping out.

Similar things happen in North Sydney and that area has one of the best coverage from my experience.

I have to constantly turn off Data connection and turn it on again to re-established connection and that's no guarantee that the connection will hold.

Disappointed!

Will be moving to Optus if these issues are not fixed soon!

10834 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Dropped calles, limited coverage, Pathetic data rates at 6 Jan 2011 08:52:09 AM
I shot a video about Vodafone's performance is an average situation.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FY2Hf44LOoc

My story: I signed up for Vodafone about 18 months ago because my girlfriend was a big fan and we both got the $69 iPhone 3g plan when it became available.
We lived in Randwick (6km from the CDB) but we had problems with the coverage straight from the beginning. Basically I couldn't make a call inside my apartment without a dropped calls. As for using the internet it was constantly changing from 3 bars through GPRS (2.5G) to No service and back.
Back than I was a student and I didn't use the phone too much at home so it was fine, however I noticed it was gradually becoming less reliable and slower and slower to a point when when the internet totally become unusable at peak times.
My girlfriend decided to quit her contract she contacted Vodafone 4-5 times waiting someone from customer service to answer the phone for hours. At the end Vodafone let her go so now she is with Telstra. You cannot compare the the quality of the two services. No drop calls, customer service in 3 minutes, internet is about 10x faster download and 30x faster upload speeds.
I often have to use her phone to look things up and make calls.

Disclaimer: I used to be a Vodafone employee in Europe working for the network support team. While I was there Vodafone did exactly the same, it offered unlimited GPRS internet for cheap. Within 2 months the data service was unusable. The funny thing is most of us didn't have phones with GPRS, so we couldn't test it on the field.
I guess it is the same here. I suppose most Vodafone employees have blackberries. They are also located in Chatswood where I guess coverage and the 3G performance is great.

6 Jan 2011 12:11:12 PM: Nice work on the video ;-)

All the best with getting out of the vodafone contract. Ive kept away from contracts for over 2 years now since my experience with 3. I pay up front and when they fail us like vodafone is now we can wave bye bye without ever having to ring them and be messed around for hours :-)

My girlfriend changed to Telstra (from Vofafail), and the service is unbelievably good! No dropouts anymore, fast data, very good reception wherever you go..
Everytime i use my phone and it drops out, or is slower than connecting to dial-up, she shows me her phone and, my gosh.. full bloody reception each and EVERY time!

10805 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Major Fail at 6 Jan 2011 06:35:04 AM
Been on a plan for 18 months now, counting down the days that I can change to a service that will give me coverage. I am in Dapto, most of the time I am lucky to get a couple of bars but that does not stop dropped calls from happening. If I am downstairs in my house I have to sit the phone over by a window to get any reception at all, if someone calls me I then have to run upstairs before answering or I will lose the call. 3G, HA! If I stand on one leg and wave my arms towards the Sun God Mardok while uttering a chant maybe, otherwise forget about it.
