26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

Dropped calls, no calls at all over Christmas, couldn't even dial 121 for voice message retrieval and text messages have arrived 2 or 3 days later, some have never arrived. As for the mobile broadband, this is a pathetic joke, even dail-up is faster and more reliable.
I stood on St Kilda Beach between Xmas and New Year with the big Vodafone Cricket promotion underway, and couldn't even make a call! I hope none of those hundreds of people sitting on Vodafone boxes watching the cricket were silly enough to be sucked in by the promotion and sign up!

10770 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is beyond repair at 5 Jan 2011 08:57:35 PM
A question I wanted to raise on this site is... has anyone experienced calls regularly dropping out at intervals such as 5 mins 2 seconds... 10 mins 2 seconds etc?

This occurred in various areas of sydney for me and another person I know also using vodafone from mid 2009 to early 2010. I would check my phone at the time, there would be reception and I would be abe to call back or others would call back immediately. This would happen consistantly for about a week then it would be back to "normal" for 2-3 weeks then it would reoccur!! At times I can remember having literally dozens of dropped calls per day and it would regularly happen 2 seconds into the minute of a call... most of them at 5 mins 2 seconds.

Interestingly enough this just happens to add up to extra $$$ for Vodafone, as we are billed for that entire minute or 30 sec block, of which we only used 2 seconds. Then, we are also left with little option but to call again so we incur 2,3 or more flagfall charges for the one call. If this was intentional its an interesting way of increasing their income from calls by 10 - 15% at 5 minute drop outs. Considering Vodafones honesty and "ways" it appears they were INTENTIONALLY dropping calls in certain areas for a given period then moving to another area to minimise customer complaints. One thing they would have banked on for this "scheme" to work (if it was that).. is that their customers would not unite against their ways.

So... Anyone else with a similar experience?
5 Jan 2011 09:20:51 PM: mm..I've seen comments previously that mention calls drop off at a set interval, but not sure if it was 5mins 2 secs. Sounds strange and since I'm not telecoms expert, have no idea what would be the cause.

Some people have also suggested the dropped calls thing as a way for them to make more money, but I think logically, they do themselves real damage by not providing a good service-and they would know that. Logically, they (senior management) would care about the longevity of the business and therefore try to engage in sustainable practices (ie. make profit sustainability)...but then again.....they have made some pretty major mistakes lol.
5 Jan 2011 10:12:47 PM: I had the same problem until I deliberately broke my phone, it always happened at about the 5 minute mark in late 2009 and early 2010. I began toi think they just wanted to get additional connection charges.
5 Jan 2011 11:01:20 PM: Hi there I posted above.. thinking as logically as I could, nothing else made any sense. Especially when you see that happen over and over again... phase out and return a couple of weeks later, dropping calls the first 2 seconds in.. you realise there is a good "chance" there's intent behind it. Especially when they stand to benefit immediately. Maybe they needed a short term gain.. to fund their longer term needs. Who knows, altho it would be interesting if it was wide spread.

As close as I came to making my phone also spontaneously explode hehe.. thankfully I didnt because the problem was consistent between my Nokia N73 and Blackberry 8310. There must be more people out there that experienced this.. it just went on for so long I was left expecting it to happen after a couple of weeks of grace !! I remember the BB call logs would look something like.. 5:02, 5:02, 3:02, 10:02 for the same call.. It was flippen ridiculous!

Most of the time I experience very poor or no reception in the CBD area.

10731 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Extreme Fail at 5 Jan 2011 06:38:34 PM
I have been having issues for months including dropped calls, no internet and no coverage. I can now only connect to facebook on my iphone if I am connected to a WIFI connection. My voicemail has disappeared. i generally have to make about 10 phone calls to someone as my calls continually drop out. A family member sent me a xmas message on xmas day and i received it on 29/12. My partner was trying to call me for 45 minutes and could not get through despite me having full coverage at the time. Through all this I have contacted vodafone on many many occasions and have spent in excess of approx 20 hours on the phone only to be told that there appears to be nothing wrong. I get no where at all and I am extremely frustrated.
5 Jan 2011 06:41:58 PM: Well, you have tried 20 hours is an extraordinary amount of time to get issues resolved, sadly it is the norm for Vodafone. Check out the TIO details in the How To Complain tab at the top of the page. Good luck and let us know how you get on!!!!

10663 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is horrific at 5 Jan 2011 02:47:18 PM
I use my phone for business, as vodafone is the carrier of 'choice' at my employer. I am constantly apologising to customers for them not being able to reach me. I have even had a customer tell me there was something wrong with my mobile and it had apparently been disconnected. He sounded like I hadn't paid my bill or something and it was pretty embarrassing even though I assured him it should be working and that vodafone just have a very poor service.

Dropped calls, failed calls, receiving texts hours after they were sent. 3G failing for no reason. It's a joke.

I have intermittent signals, dropped calls, no service when I used to have reasonable/good signals. Same areas, bad signals! VODAFONE SHOULD JUST SHUT DOWN. No point having promos on new plans and mobiles when you cannot deliver....just close down already! I am changing service provider for sure!!!

10637 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Very fail at 5 Jan 2011 02:03:08 PM
When I make a phone call, after 3 - 4 minutes the call disconnects, I phone the person back and then its fine. However I make alot of calls during the day so having it cut out on me initially on all the calls is very frustrating.

Also, the service is poor. Sometimes I cant even get reception and I am supposed to be in a 3G network area according to Vodafone.

For a week we had no service at all. It was reported to them and was eventually fixed, however I lost a lot of business during this time, where is my compensation?

My contact expires in August, and I am on a $114 p.m plan with an iphone, however I would like to pay it out, but vodafone wont let me, I phone up to get the payout figure then they ramble on with some other information that isnt applicable so they are making it difficult to exit the contract.

I hate Telstra too as they are rip offs, but what am I to do.

10632 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Failed and moved on at 5 Jan 2011 01:55:09 PM
I live in the inner suburbs of Sydney and found I had no Vodafail coverage inside my house , not a unit a house without highrise around.
Secondly they didnt even have 2g coverage in Warrnambool Victoria which is a town of 30 000 people ... they said it was an extended network which never worked as a result... poor performance...
Thirdly when i called to request the matter to be looked into they found no cause and asked what can they do to keep me as a customer, flat out laughing I said
" nothing mate nothing will make me sign a new contract with Vodafail as Coverage is not there , hour wait time to chat to Voda , and endless call dropouts ... mate I am finding a new service provider"
Left him speechless
Thanks for the vent and hope we all make a change ...

I with my family, ie 6 of us moved to Vodaphone at the end of October. We have all experienced call drop outs, I have been unable to make or receive calls. When I went to 2 different Vodaphone shops they told me it was the iphone not Vodaphone and told me to use 2G. I also noticed that there was no recpetion in Gulgong in the central west although both Telstra and Optus can be received there. I am really disappointed and don't feel I am getting value for money.

I've been a customer for 10 years and had previously been their walking billboard of advertising. Loved them. Reception even in small regional towns. Since January 2010....rubbish. I was advised my handset was too hold and to upgrade. I wanted to buy an iphone outright. I was convinced to get it for close to nothin on a plan and my $79 cap would provide me more than I'm currently getting. Rubbish, bills for $500 per month later proved my old school contract was far superior. Then to add to this, my reception has not improved...perhaps worse. Messages sending and received days late (if at all). Emails not sending. Dropped calls. And what do I need to do...and endless list of tasks...still getting no where.
To make matters worse I recently had voice surgery and haven't been able to speak...Vodafail single handedly took away my only communication means of texting and emails. Way to go...feeling so isolated.
PS using Virgin broadband to write this. Excellent service.

Vodafone sets up taskforce to fix network issues as 9000 express interest in class action
Ben Grubb
January 5, 2011 - 12:05PM
Vodafone has set up "a number of taskforce teams" to try to fix network problems following a class action legal threat in which about 9000 customers have expressed an interest in joining.
Sydney law firm PiperAlderman last month sought disgruntled Vodafone customers to press a class action over dropped calls, bad reception and poor data performance.
Today it posted an update on its site saying that approximately 9000 Vodafone customers had registered their interest.
Advertisement: Story continues below
"In the next five to ten business days, we will be sending group members a request for further information relating to their specific circumstances," it said. "Upon receipt of this information, we will process it and take the matter forward."
Vodafone has faced customer backlash over thousands experiencing poor service over the past few months.
The company initially blamed software bugs and argued that there were no serious problems with its network. However, just before Christmas, its CEO, Nigel Dews, issued an apology.
In it, Dews reminded customers of plans to "significantly" upgrade the Vodafone network.
In a blog post yesterday, the company's director of customer service and experience, Cormac Hodgkinson, said Vodafone had set up "a number of taskforce teams" that were "working to continue to resolve the current network issues which have been affecting some customers".
Hodgkinson also said Vodafone was "monitoring and testing the network across the country to evaluate its performance".
"While signs are encouraging, there are some customers who may not be experiencing these benefits as yet, and we will continue our program of work to ensure that customers see improvements over time."
Between January and March, Hodgkinson said, the company would be upgrading approximately 141 sites which transmit signals to mobile devices.
"These improvements focus on areas where there is either high traffic where capacity is a priority (which will help with data performance) or in areas where coverage is a priority (which will help with general coverage)," Hodgkinson said.

5 Jan 2011 12:21:16 PM: VODAFONE CLASS ACTION UPDATE Wednesday, 5th January 2011
Thank you to all of you who have registered your interest in the class action. To date, approximately 9,000 Vodafone customers have registered their interest.

In the next five to ten business days, we will be sending group members a request for further information relating to their specific circumstances.

Upon receipt of this information, we will process it and take the matter forward.

In the meantime, for your convenience, we set out answers to some frequently asked questions.

What information do I need to give you?
At present, we ask that group members await our request for further information, which will be sent within the next five to ten business days. This request for further information will enable us to assess the claims against Vodafone.

Can I make a claim if I am not a current Vodafone customer?
We are currently investigating claims of persons who have been Vodafone customers at any time in the past 3 years. If you have been a Vodafone customer at any time in the past 3 years, you should register your interest.

Can I make a claim if I am a 3 customer?
Due to the number of enquiries we have received from 3 customers, we will investigate potential claims against 3. When we ask you for further information, we will ask you to identify yourself as either a 3 customer or a Vodafone customer.

Can I make a claim if I am having internet issues?
Due to the number of enquiries we have received from internet customers, we will investigate potential claims relating to Vodafone's internet service. When we ask you for further information, we will ask you to identify yourself as a mobile, fixed line internet or wireless internet customer.

Can I make a claim if I have phone compatibility issues?
When we ask you for further information, we will ask you to identify any phone compatibility issues, and investigate this issue as a potential basis for claims.

What are the next steps?
The next steps are for us to gather and process the information provided by group members, identify legal claims available to group members, identify the value of the claims, and apply for litigation funding. Upon successfully obtaining litigation funding, we will work with the funder to prepare a claim to be filed in court.

What is litigation funding?
Litigation funders pay the legal costs of taking a case to court. Usually, upon a successful outcome, the litigation funder will be entitled to reimbursement of the legal fees it has paid plus a percentage of any compensation to which group members are entitled. This commission is usually in the range of 25-40% of that compensation. If litigation funding is obtained successfully, you will be asked to enter into a litigation funding agreement with the funder.

How long does the class action process take?
The class action process depends on a number of factors, including the attitude of the respondent, the amount of time taken to gather all relevant information, and whether a negotiated settlement is reached without the need for a hearing in court. This process can take 12 to 24 months.

Updates
We will provide further updates on our website on a regular basis. Please check our website regularly for these updates.

10570 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Mammoth Fail! at 5 Jan 2011 11:48:31 AM
I get next to no signal in my current house, my old house, my workplace, or indeed anywhere else I frequent. I live/work/socialise in and around the Sydney CBD! I never step outside of a Vodafone 'strong' network service area and yet I suffer dropped calls (including several when I'm on the phone to 1555... Oh, the irony!), text messages that refuse to send immediately, picture messages that are often received 8 or more hours later by the recipients, and consistently blown out bills from repeatedly re-making calls and attempting to send text messages multiple times. My last website complaint got a response from this alleged 'taskforce' of Vodafone's requesting the following information:

Mobile number and alternate contact number
PIN to authorise access to your account, this is generally a 4 digit number
Full Name
Handset Make and Model - if iPhone, please ensure latest software update has been made
Fault Address Line 1 - Street #/Name/Type
Nearest Cross Street?
Fault Address Line 2 - Suburb
Fault Address Line 3 - State/Country
If in a multi storey building, what level?
Successful calls previously at same location? Y/N
When did this issue begin?
Successful calls currently at other location? Y/N
Does the sim card have the same issue at the same location in a different Handset?
Type of coverage that is now showing on the handset? 2G or 3G?
Have you tried manually selecting 2G or 3G?
How many bars of coverage is showing on the device?
Examples within 72 hours for dropped or failed calls (time and date)
Provide the called number for Failed calls,Dropouts

Ummm, are you serious?! I have work, uni, life, etc. to be going on with- I absolutely don't have the time nor the patience to write you an essay proving what is wrong with your own network when you already know!! I think it is a disgusting way to operate a business to put the onus of proving adequate or inadequate service onto your customers instead of yourselves.

So disappointed and frustrated, Vodafone. And my wireless internet stick was equally awful to the point where I no longer even try to use it- it frustrates me to the point of distraction.

I cringe when I pay bills- I resent giving the money to Vodafone for such sub-par service.
5 Jan 2011 12:44:08 PM: That is an extraordinary number of questions for V/F to ask.
Perhaps it is just to discourage complaints, they make the process so long winded.
It is a laugh they want an alternate number to call you on :they obviously realise they may not reach you on your Vodafone number due to their crappy network.
5 Jan 2011 06:11:51 PM: How is a company to know when calls have dropped, time, date and where, yes it my seem to you like an essay but I'm sure their not mind readers. As an example you don't go to a doctor and say I have a pain and expect the doctor to let you know straight away what is the cause without him asking questions about your history or getting you to take a test. Now picture a base tower trying to get calls/sms through, without stating what time or dates when you had these issues looking through that base tower information pad for your info is like looking for a needle in a hay stack dude! I feel more sorry for the staff who are here coping it all, when its not their fault yet some customers I'm sure love to take it out on them. Just when NAB had a system issue they cop it BIG TIME, poor buggers. I would be livid to with coverage issues or queue lines but at the end of the day that person your speaking to is human after all and remember its not them that has caused your problem directly, their managing the best they can, it won't help matters with abusing them.

10562 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Failed Miserably at 5 Jan 2011 11:36:28 AM
I live 5 kms from Perth CBD in an established suburb. The vodaphone service is very flaky, fluctuating and unreliable. The signal strength bars on my phone vary from zero (no service) to 2. Call dropouts, incoming calls going straight to voicemail, poor data-rates are very common. I complained to vodaphone, and documented 3 instances with date, time, screenshots as required in their complaint process. They raised a network fault, and informed me that a technician visited my home and made 2 calls of 5 minute duration successfully closed the issue. They cannot guarantee reception indoors as something in the structure would be interfering with the signal. My house is a standard brick and tile residence and when I put a Telstra sim in my phone borrowed from my friend I get 5 signal strength bars.

I have been a longterm customer of Vodafone - by longterm I mean 10yrs + .... and in that 10 plus years where do I begin?!
I cannot describe the frustration - the difficulties in communicating with a communications company!
I have had lost calls, dropped calls, sms messages that time out and don't go through ... or finally come through at 3.11 am (for some weird reason)... I've had no, limited or non-existent data or broadband - 3G is dodgy at the best of times, incorrect billing ... and the icing on the cake was when they refused to sell me a new fone (for my partner when he changed jobs) because I've paid my bills late (occassionally ... as a protest) because I was a "risky" customer ... they are fortunate enough to still have me as a customer only through my pig-headedness!
When you try to speak to a person ... you get the infuriating Lara .. (I hate Lara) ... and the cycle of "we're really busy at the moment ..."
It is not unusual to have wait times to customer service in excess of 45 minutes ... whereupon you get a call centre who has no idea of the problems, denies there is a problem, blames the customer/client, insists that you go through a stupid procedure to re-set your phone, and still have dropped calls, bad reception and overcharges on your bills at the end of it.
Trying to contact them with a complaint is a nightmare - trying to email them is even worse - I have a list of replies stating that my complaint has been dealt with ... it never was, and probably never will be!
Contrast this with a well known car insurance company that I had to deal with on New Years' Day .... less than 3 minutes ... TALKING TO A REAL PERSON ... had my claim sorted.
Vodafone is just good enough and apart from the class action - I think they should be investigated under the Trade Practices Act for false and misleading conduct ... and maybe we should get the ACCC involved too...
Constant misleading rubbish is all we get fed from Vodafone.

Changed from 3 to Vodafone a month ago so as to get an iphone 4 and have had absolutely no problems at all it has been fantastic. No dropped calls, no missed txt msgs, excellent reception and download speeds, immediate reply from txts sent locally and to family in Europe and the UAE. Spoke to the customer service section once as the guy at the store entered my email address incorrectly in my account details and they were friendly, helpful and efficient. Seems very strange after reading all the problems others seem to be having. Feeling quite put out that my experience has been excellent!

Vodaphone discovered a new way to limit my unlimited plan - give crap coverage, call dropouts, delayed voicemail, delayed sms, patchy internet speeds.

My bars go from 3 down to 2 down to 1 and then no service - wihtout changing postion in a matter of 4 seconds - WTF.

I'm on a business 69 cap and pretty much if I want to use the service at all I have to run my phone in 2g mode. If I enabled 3g on the HTC magic I get dropped calls, SMS's don't make it, or arrive! 2G web surfing is not possible so I am constantly switching between the 2 services. I have pretty much stopped using the phone for out going its completely unreliable. The only good thing is that we're now running froyo but nothing has really changed at all. 3g still drops out constantly. This makes me very sad. I've been with Vodafone for over 3 years. I'd switch carriers but its a company phone.

10302 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Poor at 4 Jan 2011 12:57:41 PM
An observation about Vodafone (VF) coverage and peformance - we have been with VF for nearly 4 years and during that time we have observed that coverage has unquestionably and noticeably degraded. This despite the promises made by the staff when we re-signed after the 1st 2yr contract period. We are a business with 12 phones and we work throughout Victoria so we often experience no service/dropped calls and have several Telstra pre-paids which we use when working in these "no-go" areas. These "No-Go" zones are not diminishing - we still have the same problems today we had 4 years ago - what's worse is that we are experiencing more drop outs in local areas where we work and live - not to mention the 1 and 2 day old messages which lead to unhappy clients who you fear are thinking you might be fibbing when you tell them you didn't get their message for 2 days. We left Telstra after 10 years because they were incapable of stringing the words customer and service into the one sentence and were completely infexible to small business - we voted with our feet. Its nearing the time to vote again and we warming up the running shoes to make a fast getaway from VF - but where to go? The thought of going back to Telstra (despite their superior network) really chaps my hide and it seems from other peoples feedback that Optus is no better - Yuk!

10289 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is service down, but not out. at 4 Jan 2011 12:04:07 PM
It's a good thing we live in a civilised country other most of the people here would be locked up.

Time for some balance to the discussion.

I have been on Vodafone pretty much since they started in Australia, using both voice and data, travelled overseas, and used vodafone in my business, as well for my family - (corporate and private).

Overall - i find them good - but not great - but honestly are the others any better??

So - first -The good.

1. 99% of the time i can make a call or use data when i need to.

2. Vodafone Business Support (and we only have six handsets - so we are not corporate by any stretch) - has never let me down. 'Consumer' assistance - 'Lara' is useful, but the rest is - in a word - a frustration.

I will also assume for the best part that Vodafone in Australia - unlike Telstra - have been able to optimally locate their Cell tower locations, unlike Telstra who needed to make use of their analog locations - which where sub-optimal for GSM.

But the not so Good.

1. i don't think i have ever - in more than 15 years - had good reception in any of the homes i have lived in - and others have shared similar stories - conclusion: Vodafone need to increase their output power somewhat.

2. Cell handover issues - as a regular - hands free whilst driving - user I can say that Vodafone have issues (and other may also) when a cell handover occurrs from 2G to 3G - with the result - dropped call.

3. Data on my phone - in some situations has been - just like the Telstra advert describes for 'other' networks.... hopeless.

Of late:

4. i have experienced the - delayed time to start call issues - that other have described.

5. Bitsy data - with my phone switching from HSDPA to 3G and back constantly - for some reason, and in most cases no traffic on 3G, only on the HSDPA - ??? Why did it need to change!

So in balance, i am not entirely happy with Vodafone, but choosing to stay with them out of loyalty, and better the devil you know that the one you don't. The comments of other Vodafail respondents having ill considered rants - are not helping - unless they are fact based, and constructive (having said that, i understand and relate to the frustration - but then changing providers is probably what you need to do.)

So, this has only made me less loyal, but not enough to change - yet! Who knows once everyone leaves vodafone, and they fix the network - they'll be the best network in Australia with very few using it.... food for thought.
6 Jan 2011 10:26:15 AM: haha your kidding me right...man your so very loyal with your money maybe you have so much you can spare me some ,,but lets not do any electronic transfers or any other telecomunications deals whilst using anything vodaphone is connected too ...haha bloody ha

Signal is getting more variable with call dropouts in the ACT. Txt messages sometimes take days to arrive (record for us so far is a week).

Up until Dec 2010 I had Vodafail's prepaid mobile broadband for 12 months. I live in Richardson in the ACT. The service degraded over this period to the point where I could not get a reliable connection and when I did it was at less than dial up speed being prepaid I was able to walk. For the record I used this service in Blacktown, NSW during this time and the service went from poor to non existent. Just could not establish a connection even with Vodafail's support desk assistance

I've changed phones at my own expense and tried friends phones. I'm at my wits end with this. And so sick of hearing Lara tell me Rio hang in there. I know for a fact you won't be with me really soon. Release me from this contract so i can get a Telstra Sim.

Well, I switched to Vodafone from Optus at the beginning of December and I have to say it's like Night and Day. Vodafone 3G service is vastly superior to that of Optus. I've been with Optus for years and I experience all the problems people are complaining of on this site, but since changing to Vodafone a month ago - smooth sailing! 3G data works ALL the time EVERYWHERE and is always FAST! With Optus it fell back to 2G half of the time that it actually worked. I no longer get dropped calls and calls get placed first time every time.

Anyway just thought I'd pipe in, there are lots of haters, no one telling stories from the other side.

Don't know what the problem is you're all experiencing but I hope it's resolved soon.

9436 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Gone at 31 Dec 2010 08:27:22 AM
I have just left Vodafone and returned to Telstra. With Vodafone, I had dropped calls and failed calls most days. There is an area very close to where I live, along the Cooks River Earlwood, where I have NEVER been able to make a call. I always get "Call Failed", and that strange rising pitch signal. I was near the end of my contract, so I was able to unblock my blackberry and give it to one of my children, while I got a new HTC Desire from Telstra. I have had not one failed call so far, and only one dropped call in two weeks. And that is just the phone. Vodafone 3G coverage was extremely patchy, often dropping to GPRS and even EDGE, and the internet on my blackberry was so slow as to be useless. It simply was not worth using the internet for anything. Opening attachments to emails took forever. Now, I can look things up or download files quickly. I just opened a 1.1MB attachment in a few seconds. I have usable internet on my phone for the first time. As for cost, when Vodafone phoned me to sell me a renewal, they could not tell me how much of my cap I was actually using and whether I should go for a cheaper cap. I strongly suspect that I should have been on a cheaper plan, but they could not/would not tell me that information. With Telstra, I have halved my plan costs. Telstra may be more expensive, but they were quite willing to advise me to go for a cheaper plan and upgrade if necessary, instead of selling me the most they could get away with. As for their "support", forget it. The day that I went to Telstra, and the straw that broke any shred of loyalty to Vodafone, was the day AFTER Vodafone had those huge outages in Sydney a couple of weeks ago. I found I could not make phone calls or send texts. I phoned support and was kept on the line for an hour and a half, with the support guy in India repeatedly assuring me there was no outage in my area. He made me reboot three times, he made me swap SIM cards with another phone, and had just suggested we go back to factory settings (which would have involved a huge amount of time setting up my phone with BES all over again) when my employee told me her Vodafone phone was not working, and nor was her friends in another part of the city. So there was an outage, despite the repeated denials! I was at the Telstra shop within half an hour after that.

Trouble shooting
Thursday, December 30, 2010 in News

Dear customers,
We want to ensure that the network experience we provide meets your high expectations for service quality.
We have been working hard to improve the network and build in new capacity, but if you are still experiencing difficulties with your Vodafone service, we would encourage you to contact us on 1555. If you experience any wait time when you contact us, please select the call back option and we will return your call.
Our Technical Support Team in on hand to talk to you about your experiences, take note of your feedback, escalate the issue to our Network Team, when required, and we will consider cases where we may provide you with account credits, where appropriate, to compensate you for any recent inconvenience.
To investigate the issue, our Technical Support team, will ask you for a few quick questions:
How long have the issues been occurring?
What location / locations are you experiencing difficulties?
On what dates and times have the issues occurred?
What brand and model of handset are you using?
Once we have established this information, here are some of the trouble shooting steps that we will walk you through, which may help to improve your network experience:
Perform a Manual Network Selection on the handset to confirm we have access from the handset to the network
Switch the handset off and on to check if this then re-establishes the network connection
Check for any known network outages or planned work at the locations
Check the coverage at your reported locations
If the issue is not rectified through the initial troubleshooting it will be raised as a fault for our network team to investigate it further.
Following the investigation by our network team, there will be a number of possible outcomes such as:
Confirmation that there is an impacted site and a timeframe for when the site is due to be fixed
There is marginal coverage in the specific area and a timeframe as to when we expect the coverage to improve.
There is conjestion at the site, which we will seek to alleviate as part of our network capacity upgrades.
If the coverage is not due to improve in the short term, or we cannot suggest a device to improve network performance such as Pocket Wi-Fi or an alternative handset, we will consider a number of options such as the possibility of an account credit until the issue is resolved or releasing you from your contract when an appriopriate resolution cannot be achieved within a reasonable timeframe.
Each individual customer issue can have different symptoms, such as problems with making or receiving calls, dropped calls, delayed text or voicemail messages or slow data speeds, and this is why we need to look at each case individually and provide a suitable solution for that issue. Some issues are quickly solved and some may take slightly longer to resolve. We will do our best to indicate a time frame for resolution of your particular issue.
We have a major network upgrade program underway and the sites that will be upgraded to improve coverage in the first quarter of 2011 will soon be published on this website. We will keep this up to date so you get a better picture of coverage improvements that may be coming soon to your area.
Thank you for your patience as we work through these issues to improve your network experience.

Please understand, that you have broken your contracts to more and more customers everyday, you promise things that is so obvious by this website does not happen, are you just trying to be funny!!! You are serious about these problems being fixed and someone will call us back!!! I believe we have all been patient, maybe you guys should just start actually be proactive and not reactive to a situation which is so far out of hand, I really believe you will not be able to fix this in the immediate future. Poor you, what a huge negative to your branding, not even your sponsorships at sporting events will fix this and looks to me, that vodafone will loose a large majority of its customers to service providers whom actually provide a service. Good luck, hope you dont have to join the employment line too soon!!!!

I've been with Vodafone for years and was very happy with their service but the last few months it has been awful - dropped calls, incoming calls not getting through, texts take hours or days (or never) to reach me. My phone battery has to be charged every single day. I have to drive 20 kms to pick up messages and am at the point where I no longer bother taking my mobile with me in my immediate area. I complained (what a process! I nearly committed suicide) and was finally told that yes, the network is overloaded and no, there was no immediate plans for Vodafone to do much about it. Vodafone has offered to waive my exit fees if I want to get out of my latest contract and I'm going to have to do that. Not good enough Vodafone. What HAPPENED to you??

My previous post was #9084.

I have just received an SMS from Vodafone stating:

"Vodafone Update - Ticket closed as all necessary checks has been done by Network tech detected fault at the server Site contact tech support for assistance"

By the way, that is copied exactly from my phone.

So now what? Nothing has changed. I still have a bad signal, call dropouts/breaking up, poor internet connection. All the same problems what I had before.

Did they fix the fault or just detect it? I doubt they did anything.
30 Dec 2010 02:01:42 PM: I think that means they admit there is a network problem for your issues..and let's face it, no one knows when/how/where it's going to be fixed. I guess now you have to decide what you want to do. Do you want to stay and wait for a bit, call up to complain and get some discount, or complain to get out of your contract. See 'How To Complain' section.

9098 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is A joke at 30 Dec 2010 01:26:08 PM
Two days after I received my BlackBerry, pressing the trackball would no longer work. The "Customer Care" line was answered by a speech recognition system incapable of recognising any speech and after much trawling to find a number that would put me through to an options menu, I was subjected to a two hour long wait before a human answered and provided me with, of course, a useless solution. So arcane and impractical was the repair process that I've just worked around the problem. Suffice to say, the Vodafone retail store experience was equally parlous, with bad attitude thrown in. Even the store manager put me through to a so-called Customer Care line which only resulted in another marathon wait. Then, it's the same story of no coverage, dropped calls, emails ostensibly sent but never arriving, achingly slow data speeds. I have never had these problems with Telstra and am now being punished for signing up to a cheap deal with Vodafone -cheap for a very good reason. I will continue warning everyone I speak to against using Vodafone's services, if it can even be called such a thing.

The Network Coverage.

I stay in the Homebush area of Sydney and have been staying here since past 3 yrs. I do use the 3 / vodafone mobile phone service but have been having problems of the network coverage since a long time. I have had dropped calls, no network coverage and also been charged for download even though I do not use it at all. I did complain to the customer service but no positive reply from them. They did tell me that they have checked the connection tower and alls fine at their end so asked me to change the place where I stay, which was like come on. I can't change my house for the sake of a network error. After a long arguement with the customer service the only thing they do is give me a one off $10 credit for goodwill on my next invoice.

Its not only that but all my friends when they come to visit me have the same kind of network problem, dropped calls and no service most of the time.

After this I decide to cancel my contract but they want me to pay the whole 24 month contract plant of $49 for each month at once and they will cancel my contract. I was not able to pay off the whole plan at one go, so I decided to keep to hang on with it.

But am really disappointed with the service vodafone provides.

Coverage in Darwin is rubbish. Dropped calls still happening, seemed worse with my HTC for some reason even though it indicated full reception.
What's worse is I had my phone break and the staff at the Voda shop is Cas are in a league of their own with regards to ignorance of their own procedures, politeness, professionality, you know, basic service standards. When I went to get my phone serviced by warranty, they couldn't look up my phone details where I got it from, so I went home and got my receipt. Then, the IMEI was apparently invalid....jesus it took so long.....
The second time the girl had NO IDEA what she was doing and then actually left the store to talk to someone. I was in there for >45 minutes just to get my phone serviced, waiting around while some bloke slowly guided her through the process she hadn't been trained in and couldn't figure out.
Part of the problem, I am sure, is that every time I go in there, I am astounded at the length of time it takes them to do anything on their computer system. Also, I am annoyed that they can't do all that much without ringing home first.
How can I get them to release me? The shop alone is bad enough, and then with the dropped calls....I used to like Voda, but recent experience has made me a hater.

8902 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Terrible at 30 Dec 2010 08:05:10 AM
I have been with 3/Vodafone Mobile for over 5 years now. Previously, 3 Mobile had great coverage and I learned that this was due to a roaming agreement with Telstra. Back then, Telstra coverage was 3 Mobile coverage. Since early this year, I started to experience problems with my mobile phone coverage, dropped signals, dropped calls, poor battery life on my mobile phone. I initially thought it was my mobile phone until I have heard that a number of other 3 subscribers have been experiencing the same.

It looks like 3 has dropped their agreement with Telstra and they are now running on both Vodaphone and the 3 Mobile network. It has been lousy coverage everyday that it makes me want to chuck my phone out. Good thing I have a second phone under Telstra. I will wait until my contract ends in 2011 and stop wasting my money with 3 and Vodaphone.
30 Dec 2010 08:11:30 AM: 3 is still in an agreement with telstra to use their towers. And vodafone doesn't own 3 they are both owned by the same company.

Oh and also your battery life has nothing to do with your service provider

8859 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is DISGRACEFUL at 30 Dec 2010 06:18:27 AM
i have all the same complaints myself, husband and son all signed up 5 weeks ago and got the Nokia 8 we have continued dropped calls or unable to make calls no range text messages going through nearly a day later at odd hours waking people the 3 of us have missed out on work after work trying to contact us and can't get through so they ring someone else making us miss out we have younger children at home who are unable to get in contact with us at work we give up trying to use the internet because it is so bad.I have not been picked up from railway station because i can't make call and then i send text but they don't get it I have continually contacted customer service who end up saying i will just put you on hold and of course then they cut me off i have been to the shop and they direct me back to customer service lines the thing that upsets us is we need phones for work and contact with our children whilst working and it is so upsetting that we signed up without knowing there was these problems no one told us and now no one wants to know you after you have signed up. We are new and very unhappy customers and want OUT OF THESE CONTRACTS so we can go to a network that can give us what we pay for SERVICE Shame on VODAFONE we are telling everybody do not go to VODAFONE and the main reason would be the customer service on top of the Network problems which just make you more angry with the situation we feel we have been sucked in to a big mess

8835 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is very poor at 30 Dec 2010 04:11:42 AM
Company I work for changed from Telstra to Vodafone a few weeks ago - over 800 mobile services - because Vodafone offered a cheaper corporate deal. Since then I and my colleagues have experienced frequent call dropouts and a lot of calls go straight to messagebank even though the handset isn't in use. To top it off the text to tell you there's a message waiting arrives a few hours later. This infuriates clients who expect a prompt response.
Coverage is poor but at least we expected that and data service is so slow as to be useless.

Hi Yah, I've bee with three mobile for about a year now and in the last 6 months i have had quite a lot of dropped calls (even through my Phone Nokia E71, show that i have full reception) and also poor data performance, sometimes pages wont load eve though i have full reception 3G and all. I know Three has a crappy network but it is getting worser and i think it started to happen when Vodafone and Three became one. Even though they have different networks. The call center staff don't seem to care. So all i have to say is Good bye Vodafone/Three hello Optus!

I am fortunately no longer with Vodafone. The 'upgrades' that Vodafone are doing are consistent with the same 'upgrades' they were supposedly doing 2 years ago when I found their service to be sketchy. The exact same issue: Dropped calls / static in the lines / delayed messages / failed messages / loss of network. I was released from my contract by contacting the TIO which concluded Vodafone were not fulfilling contractual obligations. Nice to see that this issue is STILL going strong 2 years later. Well done Vodafone.

8732 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is some hope at 29 Dec 2010 07:51:01 PM
I've been experiencing call dropouts, and a message on my phone which simply said "congestion" when I tried to call last night.
I wasn't expecting much after 40 minutes on hold to Vodafone, however I did get a young man who was very helpful.
They are obviously taking their complaints very seriously.
My other issue was that the only reason I'm still with Vodafone is because of their ashes coverage, however because of their signal, I wasn't able to access day one of the boxing day test on the train home the other day because of the appalling patchy signal.
Was terrible.

8713 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Multiple fails at 29 Dec 2010 07:26:50 PM
In the year I was with Vodafone, as well as dropped calls lack of reception in Sydney CBD and lower North shore, as well as delayed voicemails, I was also cut off twice for spending too much. Even though I have never missed a payment (at Vodafone or at my previous provider) I started receiving threatening texts and automated messages that I had spent too much. When I called and explained I was OS for work (even though I had alerted them b4 I left) I was told this didn't matter and I had to pay immediately or be cut off. I explained that I had jus paid the last month's bill so surely I had another month before this new amount was due. They said it had to be paid immediately. I succumbed (as i could not lose my mobile while OS on my business trip) and asked them to email me the invoice asi would pay it immediately. They then told me that billing was autmated so they could not send me the invoice, I would need to wait to 2 weeks. I told them thati thought this was extortion - you can't just ring and demand payment - sending an invoice was standard business practice. I told them I wouldn't pay unti the sent me the invoice. So they hung up on me and cut me off. This happened on Two separate occasions. I rang and Emailed a number of times - and was relatedly told this was standard practice, I never ever received an apology. When my contact expired I tried leave immediately and got told romps a $50 unlock fee even though I had just spent a year paying off the phone. At that stage I just had to leave. Beware the fancy advertising - this company is a joke.

I attempt to use my voda iphone for business but no longer can. I am so sick of the dropped calls, the failed calls, the total lack of signal etc etc. What is worse is that when I try and speak to someone in AUSTRALIA who really knows what is going on- "there is no way I can put you through"..... The customer service is designed to frustrate and obsfucate rather than to solve the problem. I have tried to unlock my phone from the network to leave- but now even that site doesnt work!. Suspicious ha????

everyone's saying the same things, so i'll only count as a number. Call dropouts, unable to call, poor customer service (even in the store, they call the same number & go thru the same 40 mins of recorded messages - then they hand the phone to you.....) Sms messages missing / delayed.
Surely the network upgrade can't be happening to all towers at once.....and where is the transperancy to customers? If is was systematic, area by area, AND they were upfront about it, maybe so many wouldn't be upset.
I started with V. many years ago because i found their service, (both network & customer)to be better than Telstra, but have been having second thoughts for ages. Get the towers (if this is the issue)sorted & put real people (in australia) on the phones!

A. I live on the Gold Coast for the last month I can not make a call from my house as i have no reception, I work in Brisbane & if i am driving along the M1 my calls drop out at least twice on the trip this is every time I am driving to & from work .
B. the worst one was when i was on Hamilton Island & I was flying back to Brisbane my partner left me a voice message on the 4/12/2010 at 9.41 am to tell me he couldn't pick me up from the airport i received this message at 4.15 pm 4 hours after I arrived back in Brisbane as he was not there it caused me a lot of stress as I was worried about him & I had no way of getting back to the Gold Coast, this nearly broke a 17 year relationship .
Over the 14mths of this contract I have been overcharged numerous time my complaints have always fallen on deaf ears , my cap was far to high & not a good deal finally after more complaints vodafone they gave me a better deal.
I am locked into a contract & this is my second time with them it is getting worse I will be thinking very seriously before I lock in again.

8590 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is MEGA BIG fail!! at 29 Dec 2010 04:51:19 PM
Vodafone was great with fabulous customer service until Hutchins(3) bought it out 3/4 years ago has become progressive NIGHTMARE since. Have 3 phones and 2 broadband modems= 5 connections with them and, honest, ALL are stuffed in last few years. Calls don't come through, may or maynot get to voicemail, texts may take 4 DAYS to come through, missed calls, dropped calls, everything already said on this site! Slow broadband, ACHINGLY slow website etc...and concept of 'customer service' is an unlaughable joke. The customer service operators themselves are polite, apologetic and genuine in their desire to help but they are also ineffective and uncertain in their answers and actions, likely to the limitations of information, authority to act and staff numbers in the call centres they work from. Less staff, less equipment and trainig leaves more money for aggressive (if shonky) advertising and managerial payrises I guess. Am in process of transfering phones to Virgin, though wish someone else would offer 365day option as is useful for my spare phone. Also paid $300 for original broadband modems (2) when released, told could disconnect from Vodafone3 after 6 months, not exactly true I found out, as want to charge ANOTHER $75 each for the disconnection fee!! Yes, cheaper to cut my loss of both modems and buy again elsewhere. So my warning to unwary is DO NOT BUY ANYTHING from this company whatever the 'offers' may be as they WILL find a way to trap or abuse your contracts with them!! Joined them 2004, leaving them with 2010. Great website, fabulous initiative!! To critics....yes, all telcos and any other business who want contractual obligations to your wallet for 2 years should have websites like this calling them on their side of that contract!! Well done!

8489 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is I'm fed up!!!!! at 29 Dec 2010 02:22:10 PM
I've been a vodafone customer for many, many years. Early this year I renewed my contract with them (big mistake!!!) and since then the service which was becoming poor has become almost unbearable.

I am a carer for my elderly mother and my daughter (who is very ill)I also have a son and grandchildren in Sydney. I need my phone to be in constant contact with my charges and in recent months there have been a number of emergencies where my phone has either dropped service, dropped calls in the middle of conversations or not been able to get through (just get message bank) and then the person I'm calling doesn't even get a missed call, no voicemail is there and txt messages get to me 3-4 days late, the latest being an emergency to collect my 90 yr old mother - bit late after 4 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've documented all these problems and called vodofone every time, the last time I called I got put through to three different places, each time saying "oh I don't deal with iPhones" I'll put you to that section - well they obviously don't even know how to do that so how can they claim to have good service - I ask you!!!!

Sometimes in my own house I have different levels of service, I could be sitting on my couch talking then walk to the kitchen to make a coffee and bang - call dropped out - no service - let me ask you, what's the reason we have "mobile phones" isn't it to be able to walk around in one's own home??????

I'm fed up!!!!
And I'm outa here!!!!!

8479 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Billing fail at 29 Dec 2010 02:10:24 PM
I recently signed up with vodafone through an NRMA deal for a 12 month contract. The deal is as follows:
- HTC Desire HD
- $69 cap + $15 handset repayment
- 10% off for lifetime of contract (handset repayment not included)
- first 3 months free
- overall $745 for life of contract
- confirmed this was the full deal before signing, when activating the sim over the phone and in the store.
I recently got my first bill, I have not gone over the cap, I have not had any extra charges on my account and yet the first bill - $155.10
I called vodafone about this - waited 2.5 hrs to get through to a customer rep.
She looked at my bill and said that there weren't any particular reasons for the charge. She said she would credit one month back to me but that I would have to pay the rest of the bill as it is policy for them to charge a month's bill ahead of time which is then refunded at the end of the contract. I have never heard of this nor is it anywhere in the contract. When I pointed this out, the CSR said that I could take it or leave it. I then asked what I should do when/if the next bill charges me again - her solution was to call back. I pointed out how long it took to get through to her, she said it's not her problem.

Vodafone - you fail. Your coverage where I am is absolute crap, I can barely use the internet on my device, I get dropped calls repeatedly and 0 bars constantly. You overcharged me on my bill without a reason other than to see if you could simply get away with it. How is this type of treatment legal in the slightest?

8395 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Maximum at 29 Dec 2010 12:50:54 PM
Brief story 1: I was charged $700 for international roaming where Vodafail claimed I downloaded 42 GIG of data - onto an 8gb iPhone! Took me about two solid days to fix upon my return.
Story 2: Was billed excessive use charges ($180) on an $80 capped plan without major increase in useage. Called 1555 to complain and after 30 mins on hold, connected to an Indian call centre: he offered to delete my excess useage if I switched to the new 'infinite' plan. Initially I declined as my 24 month plan ends in two months and I'm counting down the days so I can exit, so I didn't want to 're-sign'. He assured me - after me asking four times - that my contract would still end in two months. ASSURED me!!
One week later I visited a Vodafail store to check, and the f-wit HAD signed me up for another two years!!! This was voice recorded! The Sydney instore guy was helpful and had it sorted after 20 mins (after two call dropouts to the call centre!) but after three weeks, I have just got my latest bill and now my latest charge is $250 on my $80 cap!!! And I barely use my phone. Aaaarrrggghhh!!! And I won't go into the dropped calls, the poor service or any other problem. Vodafone, your service, your network and your call centres are a joke!

8324 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is dissapointing at 29 Dec 2010 11:55:17 AM
I got a new contract in July 2009 and an LG Prada phone. Vodafone then offered me a wireless internet USB with 3mths free. I later found out that the three mths were the 3rd, 8th and 13th mths of my contract, which I wasn't informed of so I rang them and they changed it to the first three mths for me. The internet worked great for a while then I moved to Perth and it dropped out every 2mins. I rang vodafone to fix this and they told me it's the house I was living in, long story short I went to a vodafone store in Perth and asked them to cancel the contract because it wasn't working and I needed internet urgently, after 2hrs of me convincing them it didn't work correctly they eventually agreed to cancel the contract and I returned the USB in ~Nov 2009.

I was also having problems with my phone at the same time, dropped calls, missed calls and calls that don't come through and sms's not getting through for days. In June 2010 I began getting other peoples voice mail messages, I rang and told them but they told me they cant see this happening "it happened". Vodafone's solution to me having dropped calls or low signal was to turn off the 3G and put onto 2G - this means that I was paying for a 3G service and only got a 2G service. I admit that the 2G was much better and I had less drop outs and I could hear the callers better. But I didn't pay for a 2G service or phone. Vodafone have tried many solutions to fix my problems like, replace the sim, replace the phone, which I did, I got an iPhone 3G.

The last straw was when I had broken the car key and was stranded, I rang my mum and she was going to bring me the spare key. I waited 30mins and thought this is taking too long for her to call me when she arrived. I rang her and she said she'd been calling me and the calls were going to message bank. I didn't move, I didn't call anyone because I was waiting for this very important call that never came. I reported this immediately to a local Crazy Johns store, who I was already talking to to get my phone service fixed.

I'd finally had enough, rang and rang and rang, and got the contract cancelled in Nov/Dec 2010, but I had to return the phone and they told me I needed to send them the iPhone - not the LG - unbelievable. I didn't, I only sent them the LG phone. I have a few problems with this, 1) I have paid for half the phone so don't I own half of it? they can't reuse it either. 2) I was told to pay $100 to cancel the contract and not send them the phone. 3) I have since been sent a bill for over $600 which I queried, they said they haven't connect the return of the phone with accounts. I wonder if I'll get another bill?

I just agreed to send them the phone to get out of this contract and have my calls come through.

I have records and details of my complaints.

I've always been with vodafone, never with another provider. Can someone from Vodafone explain how their coverage has become worse. I've read some of the comments here and can relate to all with dropped calls, bad or nil coverage, delay on voice & txt messages. I cannot understand how they have become so bad. I have had to travel on some of our major coastal hwys a few times recently and basically only pick up reception here or there, usually only a major town & never much out on the hwy making me uncontactable much of the time. About 8 months to go on my contract so I will be changing, probably to telstra (can't believe that), their service is terrible but at least their network is very sound.

I have had dropped calls daily since using Vodaphone for the past 3 years. I always thought it was the other person not me or a fluke for ages but now I see it isn't. In addition, I have noticed that where other friends have good reception, I have none. For example when I am at Melbourne Uni in one of the buildings everyone has reception with other networks like Telstra, yet I have none from the second I walk in the building. As soon as we leave the city, reception is adequate at best. Thank you for starting this website as I was just getting used to substandard service which is not acceptable!

Numerous call dropouts on a regular basis. Incoming calls are frequently met with an "out of mobile service area" message. My phone is a business phone, and many customers have problems consistently contacting me.Interesting point on a different subject. I was with telstra and accrued a "On hold" time of 16 hours over a 3 week period. I requested and received compensation for labour charged at $80 per hour for 16 hours that I was on hold!! I received a cheque from telstra for $1000 along with a letter of apology. Might try that with Vodafone!!

7921 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Epic Vodafail at 29 Dec 2010 02:59:26 AM
Let's begin with just over 12 months ago. Relocated to Sydney for 3 months for work, so decided to purchase a wireless USB modem and internet SIM for use where I moved in - a 1 minute drive from the city in Woolloomooloo. Sure enough, when I went to set this up to use for the first time, not a BAR of reception. The device appeared to work okay, but the network coverage was non-existent. Returning the stick to Vodafone proved hardly effective, the amount of prepaid internet could not be refunded, but they would refund me for the stick. What about the time wasted in the first place? And my frustration at not being able to use the service?

For 2 years I have used Vodafone through my employer's Blackberry business plan.. the past 12 months in particular I have seen ramped up call dropouts, no internet service, constant lack of any service at all and 'SOS' state service.. I am sure those of us who purchase mobile handsets and in particular smartphones want full functionality all the time and wherever we go.. otherwise we would simply use landlines or home internet as needed. The fact we pay extortionate amounts monthly in any case to access a service we want to but in most cases CANNOT access on the fly is appalling. Vodafone should survey its Blackberry users to see how many would mind waiting until the end of a busy day transferring from meeting to meeting until they get home before they can answer emails or get into contact with their key client stakeholders.

I have seen it mentioned below, but we cannot forget Australian airports!!!!! I frequently fly between Sydney and Brisbane - both terminals have a Vodafone store housed within. Brisbane's Vodafone network access at both domestic and international airports is nowhere to be found... and Sydney's service is ridiculously intermittent and unreliable. I needn't begin describing what a pain it is to disembark from an airplane and fail at many attempts to get into contact with a family member or friend who is picking you up... I have had the embarrassing hassle of having to ask to borrow another waiting member of the public's phone (which I will note was a Telstra user) to contact my waiting lift.

I am well and truly over this appalling service, and wish that Vodafone could reimburse its customers for failing to deliver over and over again - and what I anticipate will continue to occur for years to come, until their supposed improvements occur!

7909 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Great Service at 29 Dec 2010 12:50:31 AM
Im a happy Vodafone customer and they have helped me in solve all my issues. But what i don't understand is that when i first saw this website the dude that made this i think his name is Adam or whatever said

"In short I am a disgruntled Vodafone customer after using the service for less than 6 weeks. After my relentless attempts to contact Vodafone customer support to resolve my issues (the usual dropped calls, no reception, poor battery life and delayed voicemail messages) I have no choice but to create a website to express my dissatisfaction to the world"

I get how vodafone is responsible for dropped calls, no reception and delayed voicemail. But for someone of his intelligence and for a so called software developer i don't know how he can say poor battery life is a fault by vodafone. Does he mean that Vodafone sents out some signal to make the phone use more battery power? Poor battery life is caused by the manufacturer! As for the coverage map on this website, HAHAHAHAHA what a joke!! True the Vodafone coverage checker isn't the greatest but that doesn't mean the one on this is any better. Just now i was able to enter in several post codes and say the reception was 100% and 0 dropped calls. Oh and the message saying your ip is blocked for spamming purposes. Hahaha just takes 2min to get a new ip.

I just can't believe how stupid some people are. I was at a store today checking up my plan. Sadly the system was down. But it came to my surprise at how stupid some people in this country really are. I saw a stupid lady blaming the sales rep like it was her fault the systems were down and its people like her that are causing problems. Seriously to all the keyboard warriors that spend time on this stupid website complaining about their service, if you have the brains then instead of wasting time here just call the telco ombudsman. Heres the website even
http://www.tio.com.au/
Soo simple. But im sure people just want to sit here and continue complaining. So how about instead of sitting on this poorly made website, you get ur lazy ass to a land line phone, and call the telco ombudsman. Why dont you go on and join up with Telstra the number 1 telco provider in AUS??? You will see that their complaints line is longer than their service line and dont get surprised when they charge you thousands of dollars for their service.
29 Dec 2010 12:56:14 AM: You sound like a desperate captain going down with a sinking ship.
I admire your misguided loyalty.
29 Dec 2010 12:58:55 AM: Im a happy customer and i agree vodafone has and is still experiencing problems. But venting here isn't gonna solve it is it?? If people want a solution no point posting it up here. Its just like a blog page. Go to the website i posted to get something done about it instead of wasting your time here for nothing
29 Dec 2010 01:03:03 AM: Yet here you are posting :/ this site is about gaining a collective of people to show vodafone that customers are not willing to put up with the poor service they are providing. Sure people will still go through vodafone and the tio and even the lawsuit to gain compensation / be free of vodafone, but first it is about making the company and the wider Australian audience aware of the problem
29 Dec 2010 01:03:45 AM: This website has gained a huge amount of publicity on radio, television and print.
29 Dec 2010 01:05:26 AM: Gaining a collective of people to show customers?? HAHAHAHAHA good luck to that!
29 Dec 2010 01:08:05 AM: This website has had over 1.2 million hits in 12 days. Check any webtracker. I think it may be working.
29 Dec 2010 02:13:08 AM: ok so what is 1.2 million hits gonna do? Is it gonna magically make the reception better?? Is it gonna magically cancel your contract?? Is it gonna magically make me a millionaire?? Is it gonna magically make the battery life better on my handset?? Because according to the maker of this website, Vodafone is responsible for shitty battery life.
29 Dec 2010 03:24:26 AM: Errr Vodafone is responsible for replacing handsets with faults, that they provide with plans.
It took them almost 6 months to replace my sisters faulty iPhone! Which had a programming fault. And thats how long it was sitting in Vodafones incompetent hands for. Once Apple got it, it was a matter of days!
Just not good enough!
29 Dec 2010 03:54:11 PM: So it was Apple's fault to begin with correct??
29 Dec 2010 08:10:07 PM: vodafone staff are quote "not qualified" according to apple, to deem an iPhone 'faulty' so cram it up your arse before you go around making radical statements and blaming the wrong people
29 Dec 2010 09:06:14 PM: Ummm... Just so your aware, as it seems your not.. Poor battery life could mean a few things... Your phone is continually looking for reception from voda, therefore killing the battery life... it could also mean he waisted many hours away from a charger trying to get through to customer support... which will kill your battery life with lenghy hold times.. Not all of us can sit on hold at home or work for 2 Hours with the charger plugged in! Oh yeah, and voda are responsible for the handset you purchase off them!!
1 Jan 2011 12:04:26 PM: I also have had no problems with Vodafone, silly me just changed over to Telstra to go on one of those bundle plans. Man, bad move. Now that they have bad customer service being switch from one person to another with no good outcome. I went straight to the ombudsman and its all sorted. Maybe some of you VF customers should do this. Was a very simple process.
2 Jan 2011 05:46:46 AM: Hey numbnut, the site lets it be known that we as consumers have a voice (this country democracy) just cant believe how stupid you are. Amongst other things, lots of us are now aware that the problems are with the network. Dont you get it?? fone continually seaching uses more battery power.cant believe they let stupid people like you out of your country, maybe they try keep the intelligent people and let them make a meaningful contribution
2 Jan 2011 01:28:02 PM: Poor battery life can be attributed to poor network quality. When your phone is transmitting (ie. making calls, using internet, periodically checking in with the tower) it is sending signals to the mobile tower. If reception is poor, then signal quality is degraded to the point were communication between your phone and the tower is effected, your phone will compensate for this by increasing transmission power and thus draining batteries faster (conversely when signal quality is good your phone will reduce transmission power in order to conserve battery life).

A drop out occurs when your phone has maxed out its transmission power but still cannot maintain adequate signal to noise ratio with the tower. On a side note, the increased transmission power equates to an increase in the energy of the microwave radiation emitted from your phone antenna, most of which passes through your brain...
9 Jan 2011 09:36:39 AM: I have two identical phones however one is already with Telstra and the other still with vodafail (not for much longer). The phone with Telstra uses about 1/4 less battery power over the day. It will still have 1-2 bars of battery consistently at the end of each day. And they both do the same amount of work.
22 Jun 2011 12:01:22 AM: A phone that has to constantly search for a weak signal will experience reduced battery life as the voltage from the battery is used to amplify the receipt and transmission of radio signals. This is basic telecomunications physics.

I was with 3 and wanted to cancel so they put me onto vodashit, for 2-3 months I had insane call dropouts that the Indian fucks blamed on the iPhone, I was amazed if I ever saw more than 1 bar of reception for more than 5 secs.... Anyway after a week of complaining every day to cancel supervisors they agreed to give me 5 days to fix it and after 3 days I called up n went off my head again and yay the fucking cockheads cancelled my contract, I am now with telstra and not a single dropout. Happy times

I signed up for an iPhone in May and have nothing but problems of which Vodafone has kept blaming the phone for. I constantly get told to reset my network settings as that will fix the problem. It does for about a day and then I have to put up with the dropped calls, call fails and then people calling me on my husbands number saying I have been trying to call you for three days and your phone has been off???? I run a business and my phone is on 24/7. BIG thanks for setting this site up and creating awareness. I used to work for Vodafone and this company was a fantastic place to work. Since the merge the service and attitude is not the one I remember working with only a few short years ago. My loyalty is wearing thin and it is breaking my heart. Bigger isn't necessarily better by the looks of things. It appears Vodafone shouldn't have gone near 3 that had a terrible reputation prior to the merge.

I am on the $99 unlimited calls & 3 gig data plan.

However 1 in 3 calls dropout, text messages are constantly late (sometimes up to 2 days) & data is pretty much nonexistent as I constantly get 'connection timed out' messages while trying to access basic sites like facebook. I don't even bother trying to stream a videos on YouTube anymore because it just can't do it let alone consuming my monthly 3 gig capacity.

I have seen friends phones on other networks (in particular Telstra) and all functionality runs smoothly as it should.

This site is great & hopefully vodafone will finally give it's customers what they are paying for.

Vodafone you are rubbish.

Am actually with Crazy Johns, via Vodafone. Call disconnects/drops out within 4.5 minutes, even though signal strength is 4-5 barrs. Only one barr in most area's for coverage. At sign up I was ensured that coverage was excellent in my area (4573). Text messages sent are delayed by hours, pics at least 5 hours to receive.

my problems wirh voda.........dropped calls all the time , extremely slow or nil data rates, had to complain to the tio numerous times to sort out billing issues as their "1555" customer care number never connects due to coverage issues ( for example one day I called 47 times only to get one connected call at 5pm ) mms msgs go astray but I still get charged, my friends constantly complain my phone is off when it actually isn't , I watch voicemails come through even though my phone is on and shows alleged coverage. fun times indeed - 4225

Why should we pay for a service like this!

Tried 4 times to speak with my friend using my Vodafail prepay sim. Call went through then went dead within 10 seconds, even though call duration was still ticking over. Swapped over to my Virgin $5/mth iPhone 4 and had no problems calling her. I feel sorry for the engineers at Vodafone and surprised they had no rollback plan.

7113 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Is it Vodafone? at 28 Dec 2010 05:31:33 PM
I'm not sure if my case is directly a Vodafone issue. I'm a 3 mobile customer, who I understand utilise the Vodafone network when out of their own 3G coverage areas (mainly capital cities). I spend a bit of time on south coast NSW (Jervis Bay) and have a huge amount of dropped calls, when signal strength shows 100%. Could this be the dreaded Vodafone? Not related, but I live in Riverwood (Sydney) and though I have 100% signal at home, I am continually dropping out. Can't be the phone as 2 other phones doing the same. Are 3 having the same issues as Vodafone or do 3 use Vodafone system around Sydney too??
28 Dec 2010 05:37:40 PM: 3 have their own towers and wherever you cannot get 3 reception, your 3 mobile will roam off of Telstra's network. Excessive roaming on the 3 network of late could possibly be explained by the merging of the two telcos and an amalgamation of tower usage. Vodafone expects this to be resolved in the next 6-8 months. That's what they're telling us anyway. <3 Your friendly neighbourhood VF rep.

7093 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Extreme at 28 Dec 2010 05:25:50 PM
Here is an email I sent to Vodafone only a few minutes ago after being on hold for over 35mins.

Hi,

I've been a Vodafone user for over 15 years and have not have many problems until the past few months. The problems I'm experiencing is as follows:

Dropped calls
SMS takes 24 hours or more to send and receive
MMS messages not receive to I send them to
Mobile internet very slow and drops out
Visual Voice-mail on my iPhone 4, receives messages hours and sometimes days after the message has been left

All these above problems happen when I have what appears to be full signal strength.

I am paying for a service I believe that Vodafone is not supplying.
Also it is very difficult to get through to any customer service staff.
Does Vodafone think that its customers have hours to sit and wait on hold?

I will be reconsidering my service with Vodafone over the next few months and I may recommend to my Family, Friends and Work mates to avoid Vodafone if the want to receive a quality service.

Vodafone should stop sponsoring the Cricket and invest money in its network

I hope to get a reply from this email. But as with the mobile service I doubt it.

Thanks
