Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

19736 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is VODAFAILED MOBILE DATA AGAIN!!! at 20 Oct 2011 07:29:24 PM
Internet keeps dropping out - DNS lookup fails time after time. Server closes connection without sending data, browser times out because response too long..... Vodafone need to URGENTLY resolve Internet Gateway issues with THEIR ISP. Too few ports available or what? The network is always OK but the Internet connection is a BIGTIME FAIL!! My wireless Telstra connection just hoons along with no slowdown, but I signed up with Voda 'cos their mobile data rates are more civilized. I want Vodafone to honour its contract with me by supplying continuous data. Like I said, their High Speed network is OK, just the Internet connection sucks - a gateway issue, not a network issue. Please get this right & stop blaming it on network upgrading which is NOT the root cause. I reiterate, Voda's Internet Gateway is the bottleneck - PLEASE, PLEASE FIX IT!!!
20 Oct 2011 08:22:20 PM: Vodafone are upgrading their tower. No internet connection until end November 2011. When I was assured it will be "brilliant". No concept of basic consumer law. They won't consider refund for period service is unavailable.

19706 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is terrible at 18 Oct 2011 01:36:12 PM
I needed a new phone and ported my service from 3 to vodafone on a Sunday. I was told the service should be active within 24 hours and to ring vodafone customer service if it wasn't connected by noon the next day, i.e. monday.

I waited until Tuesday morning before contacting vodafone customer service, waited on hold for 20 minutes. When I got to speak to someone that person told me they would transfer me to their connections team. That person then hung up on me.

I returned to the store where I got the phone to seek their assistance. After 30 minutes I was told that it would take another 24-48 hours to connect my service, because they had thousands of iphones to be registered.
I told them that this delay was not acceptable and asked for the contract to be cancelled. I was told that this was not possible. At this point I threw the phone on the floor, tore up the contract and walked out.
Good luck to vodafone in getting any money out of me. I will be going elsewhere for my new phone.
Vodafone can kiss my 4king azz.

I have a Huawei Pocket WiFi 2. It connects OK to my home computers/devices. It connects OK to Voda's data network. Voda's data network DOES NOT CONNECT CONSISTENTLY with the Internet. It goes fast-slow-slower-STOP-wait-slow-slower-stop-slow-STOP-wait-slow etc... Pages perpetually time out in my Chrome or my Firefox browsers, DNS lookup failed, server shut down without sending data etc, etc. There is no firewall issue with my machine. Telstra mobile data just hoons along when I use my back-up prepaid Next-G pocket Wifi unit. Vodafone says they have no faults/issues with their data service(well....according to their Indian Helpdesk)...... THEY DO!!!! VODAFAIL BIGTIME!!!

Vodafone offered to renew my contract and supply me with a 16G iPhone 4GS free of charge which I agreed to being none the wiser. The next day I noticed online that I was intitled to a 32G iPhone 4GS on my current plan free of charge. They initially refused to upgrade my phone until I asked to speak to a superviser.

19683 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Mobile broadband at 14 Oct 2011 10:26:56 AM
Had mobile broadband, which uses the mobile phone network. What can I say, many problems:
Drops out on average 10-15 times during an 1 hour surfing on the net. Doesn't matter when in the day.
Won't let me connect. Period. Have to shut computer down, and restart- 2-3 times most sessions to connect.
Connects, signal strenght good, then no internet access.
Poor signal strenght 90% of the time, even when it says 'good'
Massive overuse bills? why???? i can never connect!!!
General bad service in stores. Got put on a phone to india, in a vodafone store to canceln contract. Anyone think its weird to be in a store and have to call another country to get service.

Poor Poor Poor - Hope Vodafonel; vodafails big time.
18 Oct 2011 07:30:30 PM: Their new data network is OK - good coverage etc. It's their Internet Gateway that is totally screwed! That gateway is the point at which Vodafone's data network connects to the actual Internet. For some EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING reason, the gateway bandwidth is just like an octogenarian with prostate cancer trying to piss. Hardly any flow with an occasional spasm of data. It should be flowing like the piss from a drunken teenage hoon - BUCKETLOADS!!! This is Vodafone's REAL issue and it's DRIVING ME NUTS as I, for the life of me, cannot see any technical reason for such a HUMONGOUS FAIL!!! GET IT RIGHT VODAPEOPLE!!! Honour my contract!

19667 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is As fail as fail gets at 13 Oct 2011 12:42:57 AM
Girlfriend's phone has been off all day (or so I thought). Got home and we both noticed that she had no bars. Not the first time it's happened. Switched to over to 2G GSM and 1 bar intermittently dropping in and out. Switched back to 3G and get the good ol' searching....

Called Vodafone and got through to a rep in under 5 minutes (not bad). Had a mouth full of food as I was anticipating a longer wait. Explained everything to the rep. Call dropped. Nice rep called back. Call dropped again. Nice rep called back again. Rep advised of upgrade to the area. I refused to accept the excuse (as it has apparently being going under an upgrade for the pass 6 months). Mentioned to the rep that since Vodafone can't provide a service that my girlfriend signed off on, then they were in breach of the contract and we wanted out. Rep didn't have a standardized answer to that, so has arranged for their cancellation team to call us within 3 business days?? (their back logged cancellations list must be huge lol). Not looking for compensation, just wanting to leave Vodafone without any cancellation fees for the remaining 18 months and the hassle of contacting the TIO.

My Vodafone contracts ends next month. No brainer on what I'm going to do with that. In fact have been with Telstra as long as Vodafone, so Telstra gets to take over my second service too (and also my girlfriend's when we sort this mess out).

Anyway, fingers crossed =)

19657 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is unreliable at least at 11 Oct 2011 05:31:47 PM
Mobile broadband delivery on the Gold Coast is a dismal failure. I have contacted their help desk on numerous occassions and been put through the same hoops each time.(I am on my third SIM card) The service fluctuates between 3G and HSUPA, download and upload speed is up and down like a yo-yo (mostly down) and drops out completly every 5 minutes. I can't use Skype or download any volume of data. All my attempts to have it fixed have been a very frustrating failure. They know that they can't deliver the service here and yet they are still pushing the "service" through their retail shops and signing up new customers every day .

after randomly sending me out 3 phones, and never sending me a return address. I held onto the phones in the packaging until voda contacted me. they finally sent me a letter saying "please pay for the extra 2 phones or return." Still without a return address. I have been trying to ring them for 3 days now. I have rang 6 times and been placed on hold from a variety of 42-79 minutes with no on ever picking up. I have been to a 3 stores around Brisbane and they apparently cant help me and the only advise I get is "you have to contact voda by phone"

Network drops out on the Gold Coast. You call the 1300, do all the IVR steps including your pin authentication; get told they are busy but they will call you back with your place in the queue. They do call back - But then start asking you Who you are, and your phone number again. They have no idea who the customer is they are calling back despite making us jump thru verification hoops to even talk to them in the first place.
11 Oct 2011 02:40:00 PM: I just tell them that I have entered that information already at that if they can't access it they must not work for Vodafail :) screw them, let them waste their time.

On 4 different occasions I have been hung up on by vodafail. Im switching carriers and if they charge me I will complain. My initial call was to complain that my service in the middle of the Gold Coast which you reckon would be at least 2 bars, was completely non existent. After hanging up on me and switching me to about 5 different departments I have chosen to not put up with their weirdness anymore! I was on the phone (including me having to call back) for nearly two hours.

Over the last 2 days my internet won't connect. Nothing. The message is either "connection failed" or "network currently unavailable". I've checked all the settings - nothing different from every other day when it is connected (and then it's as bad as if it was dial-up), no settings have changed. I'm in the MIDDLE of Brisbane CBD, how is that possible???? And it's been "unavailable" for 2 whole days now. 2 whole days that I'm paying for yet not receiving any data/internet service for whatsoever. Thankfully I can receive calls fine, but messages? Don't know, doubtful. Frickin' Vodafail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

19583 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is life changing failure at 5 Oct 2011 10:49:23 AM
When updating a contract with Vodafone in feb 2010 I also updated my contact details. However they only updated my mobile account, and not my mobile broadband usb details. I now have a credit default over a measly $260. Despite vodafail having a current mobile number, email address (where I receive my billing) and postal address, they sent the mobile broad band bill to an address I haven't lived at since 2008.

I go to get a personal loan from my bank for a motorcycle (which I can easily afford) and BAM credit default, WTF???? After much investigation and dealing with vodafail terrible call centre I was told. "each account is separate, you only updated contact details for one account. So despite they didn't update all my details, they couldn't use my name, DOB and drivers licence number to contact via my "separate account".

A five year credit default will change my life who knows what could happen in the next five years (currently 26). The complaint is now with the ombudsman. I will expect nothing less than having the default removed from my otherwise clean credit history.

Vodafail's shitty service ruining lives. Way to go.

No mobile reception in Chapel Hill. Hardly ever full signal for most of my daily trips in the western suburbs of Brisbane. I spent 4 hours at Jinderlee today with zero (yes zero) reception. 3 drop-outs per trip on my daily commute of 8km between Chapel Hill and Milton. Unusable internet 95% of the time, just hangs, never decent bandwidth, even on 3G, the speed is a joke.
My company pay for the contract so I am stuck with this pathetic network. My friends and family have Telstra and Optus and they are very happy. Being on Vodaphone is like being the dirtiest, smelliest kid in the classroom.
I am their sworn enemy and I bad mouth Vodaphone to anyone who'll listen.

19560 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Billing and Poor customer service at 2 Oct 2011 11:06:52 AM
I recently swapped my existing contract from 3 to Vodafail, as they are merging. When i did, my first bill consisted of 2 plan charges. My existing $79 cap, and my $29 cap from years ago, plus excess usage charges. That plan did not even exist, it was ended when i started my $79 cap... yet i was charged both. I called them, they could not explain why this had happened and told me i would received a credit on my next bill. Today i receive from vodafail on the 7018 number that said i owe "$146.23 due to usage not covered by plan allowance". I call them and ask what is this about? He told me he can't help me, he can't access that information until tomorrow when the billing comes out. I said to him, no, you sent me a text about the charges this morning, you need to be able to explain what they are about. He was evasive, and i kept querying him (him being Glennn, ID number 39395). He said to me "how are you not understanding what i am saying" implying that i was stupid. So i got his name and ID number. But got nothing out of the call. I have NO idea what the charges are about. When i look at my online usage it says $0.00. Yet the text says i owe 146.23. Nothing but incompetence since i have changed over.

I was with vodafone for about 8 years, i noticed data reliablity in Brisbane was beginning to become beyond a joke,I mean speeds were comparable if not better than what i see with telstra next g now, but the data drop outs were frequently ridiculous.I can guarantee its not a handeset issue because the moment i switched to telstra i immediately got 5 bars reception (something of a rarity with vodafone)on my galaxy s2; also on the train ride into the city i now almost never get any data/call drop outs even in tunnels. So yeah, the moral of the story if your experiencing this subpar service just port to another provider, whats the worst that can happen? obviously it cant sink any lower that vodafone.

19554 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Extreme fail at 30 Sep 2011 04:13:09 PM
Suffered with extremely poor levels of reception and at times, equally poor customer service for around 18 months.

Reception issues are to the extent that almost all calls are very distorted, and the vast majority of calls have to be made at least twice due to the distortion/drop outs (my itemised bills are testament to this!)

After 3-4 calls to customer care, Vodafone offered 3 months of line-rental at a discounted (50% rate), promising that the network in my area would be upgraded to dual band during this period. I have experienced no notable changes.

I am also a Corporate Friends and Family customer with a Vodafone line that used to be serviced by Mobiz, but needed to be ported to Vodafone when Mobiz closed shop. This should have been a simple process of submitting an application form.

I have now submitted my forms twice, and allowed five weeks for my service to be ported over but to no avail.

The most frustrating part of this all has to be the time spent (2.5hours so far) trying to firstly navigate through the automated portion of the customer care, then trying my utmost to stay calm whilst talking to customer care.

The Australian-based Business Team have been particularly helpful (shout out to Gemma and Aidan), but their offshore counterparts seem to be instructed to LIE and insist that they cannot transfer customers through to Australian-based extensions, unless pressed hard on the matter.

This is by no means a racist rant, and it's clearly not the fault of the operators themselves, but it is poor form of Vodafone to be creating so many hurdles for what should be relatively simple operations such as contacting a specific team member when provided with their precise extension number.

Ultimately, I am almost certainly switching to Telstra shortly, happy to pay a premium for what appears to be a premium service (coverage etc) based on friends and family members' experiences.
3 Oct 2011 03:10:48 PM: what a shock am in roma qld & have fast internet (can watch that facetube thing) & am able to make phone calls. what a gr8 service lucky i am with telstra as there is nothing else to do in this town.
11 Oct 2011 08:06:14 PM: Just a quick update - THERE IS HOPE PEOPLE! (please excuse the caps, but I want people to pay attention.

I spent a total of 4.5hours on the phone to Vodafone today, the outcome being 100% waiver of cancellation fees, 100% waiver of outstanding handset contributions on both plans. (10 months and 14 months remaining on contracts.)

The moral is, persevere when trying to get your issues resolved. My connection was terminated 3 times during this process (I won't go so far as accusing them of hanging up on me), but I stuck at it, and managed to speak to both supervisors, then ultimately the manager in the "retentions team".

- Main tips are to be polite, whilst reiterating your frustrations.
- Kindly refuse to be put on hold without receiving extension numbers in the event you get cut off.
- Kindly refuse to put up with the bullshit of repeating your entire story to the lowly operators that answer 1555, and insist that you be transferred to the relevant department/extension. Works best if you explain its in both yours and their best interest not to repeatedly waste time in this way.
- Seek reassurance that the person on the other end will call you back immediately in the event the call drops out.

Best of luck guys.
2 Nov 2011 09:10:41 AM: I am from Victoria and had same issue about MOBIZ shutting shop. Today I spent 2 hours of my day on the phone to various customer service representatives trying to resolve the problem.

Problem: In August I closed my Mobiz account and switched over to Vodafone Prepaid. In September and October I have still received invoices for call charges for Mobiz, even though I dont have an account with them any more. The amounts are still being direct debited from my bank account.

What did I do: I called Mobiz. But of course, their phone number on the invoice just sends me to 1555 the standard Vodafone customer care. Talked with 4 different representatives who all followed the same steps within their powers and came to the same useless solution of "try calling back in 48 hours". What does 48 hours fix other than that they wont have to fix your problem?

My next idea: Call Hutchinson Corporate Australia. Straight through to a local operator who listened and seemed to find my problems slightly humorous as if she's heard it all before, but understood what I needed. She put me straight through to a Australian Business Team who followed the exact steps the other people had done before.

HOWEVER, this time the girl (Rebecca) while putting me on hold had already taken the initiative to go and speak to her supervisor about how best to solve my problem. Although she had the same results as the other customer service people I had spoke to she told me that she would make sure she gets to the bottom of it for me. She actually WANTED to help and took down my invoice details, customer details and all of that and said she would personally track down with the accounting and invoicing team what has gone wrong and why no one knows if MOBIZ exists anymore.

Obviously I will have to wait a few days for her to follow it up, but I must praise this person from the Business Team who actually showed INITIATIVE in following up the problem to find me a solution.

It actually would SAVE Vodafone money by employing more people like this team (more expensive local customer service operators) who show initiative and can solve a problem on their own within 10 - 15 minutes, instead of the current system of outsourcing to overseas where the people just follow the set script and don't seem to WANT to help you out with your problems and you end up spending 120 minutes on the phone with no resolution.

Why is it that the Australian customer service representative straight away approaches their supervisor without you even requesting them to, when the Indian customer service ones you have to ask like 5 or 6 times and they still refuse to put you onto their supervisor as if you are going to dob them in for doing something wrong. Obviously there is something wrong with how things are being run down there and the culture that top management are sending down to lower employees.

I have made the terrible mistake of signing up for both phone and internet. I have only just returned to oz and wasn't aware of the upgrade service problems, of course the salesperson told me I would have excellent coverage!!! I was informed after many failed attempts of contacting vodafone to turn off my internet on my iphone so that my calls will stop cutting out ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!! what is the point of an iphone without internet!!!! I am outraged I have taken this to the TIO because I want OUT and they are refusing to let me out of my contract without paying. They are a terrible company, that provides terrible service and are ripping people off.

I had a default added on my Credit history from vodafone 3 years ago. I ended my contract with Vodafone and went prepaid so now have been a vodafone customer for around 7 years. However, when I ended my contract I paid over $1200 to finalise it and was told it was all finished. a couple months later i recieve this bill for over $500 dollars. So I rang vodafone asking why i was billed and had this indian rep that i couldn't understand they said it was the exit fee so i said no i finalised this contract ages ago i shouldn't be billed this extra amount and demanded to speak to a supervisor. Then was put on hold for ridiculous amounts of time or put through to another person i couldn't understand. I rang so many times with the exact same outcome then was sent a letter informing me I had been defaulted! i was younger then and had never (and have never since) been defaulted so i stupidly paid the amount immediately. i have only now become aware of my rights (which are i should not have been defaulted if i was disputing the bill) or the TIO. So I rang Voda and informed them on this but they say they don't have any records of me disputing the amount! which made me so angry because it was a huge headache for me at the time! i lodged an enquiry with the TIO and they say my complaint is ligit but they can't help because it was over 2 years ago. i need to contact the Resolutions team... or go to fair trading! Resolutions team never answer the phone... so fair trading it is! if anyone else knows how i can have it removed let me know!

Signed up for the pocket wifi 3 weeks ago. Received it without any instructions or a number to call to activate sim, no worries, I'm smart, I sort this out. Wifi doesn't work. Call the call centre, told to reset wifi, still doesn't work. Told that its cos my area has poor reception (what a joke, I live in the CBD and the wifi shows full bars of reception), told it must be my computer. Rang the next day to try and cancel, told can't do it without talking to tech support. Spent another hour on the phone with tech support, who manage to get it half working by bypassing the server. Told to go into a store for a sim swap. Did a sim swap, took 24 hours for the sim swap to take effect (no service in the mean time). After the sim swap, the wifi will not even connect to the service anymore! Rang again to cancel the service, told that it must be a device error and to go in to get a new one. Go into store again, collect a new pocket wifi. Same issues. Back on the phone, reset device about 6 thousand times, and changed every setting on my lap top. Told to go into the store AGAIN to get another sim swap. Did that, took another 24 hours for it to activate, STILL DOESN'T WORK! Rang again to cancel, put through about 5 different people, last one said would call me back in 30 mins. 3.5 hours later (at 10.45pm) got a callback to say they can't solve the issue, have to go back into the store. Back into a store, spent an hour whilst all sorts of things tried, yet ANOTHER sim swap, store sim card, store device, etc etc. Girl from store got onto the phone to tech support on my behalf, still no resolution. Told will be called back again. Called back when I was in the middle of something, asked them to call in 15 minutes, 2.5 hours later, still no call. Got back on the phone to ask what was happening. Guy on the other end said he couldn't help me, will get someone to call me back. I asked to speak to one of the managers. Called back in 30min by someone that proclaims to be a manager who decided that he will be the only one I will ever have to deal with from then on (what a joke, never heard from him again) and promises a call back the next day between 8 and 11am. 5pm and still no call back. By the way, 3 weeks now since I got the stupid thing, spent over 20 hours going into stores and calling India, 2 different devices, 4 SIM SWAPS, reset countless times and STILL NO SERVICE! What a joke, what a waste of money! At least we're helping keep all those Indian call centre staff employed and maybe their families can afford dinner now. NEVER AGAIN VODAFAIL!

Called vodafail for their lack of coverage to cancel a contract. Told them i had to get optus in the interim (with a new number) to receive work calls from home. They suggested i divert my vodafone calls to my optus number, continue paying the vodafone contract and they'd take $20 off my $79 unlimited contract that im currently on...say what??!
22 Sep 2011 10:29:07 PM: It sounds like they want you to pay while admitting the service doesn't work. You don't have to accept that outcome and if they can't sort it out then go to the TIO for a better a resolution.

25 Sep 2011 07:45:04 AM: After experiencing the TIO for great lengths of time...even they have proven they are a waste of time...Vodaphone very conveniently ignored all suggestions by the tIO and the TIO did nothing about it....taken the issue to the Communications Dept...No longer with Vodaphone

What you all have to realize is although you have all had a bad experience with vodafone not everyone has. This year there has been so much bad press come out about vodafone yet 100's of people in qld each month and thousands across Australia each month are signing up to the network. And triple those numbers are upgrading each month so they are obviously happy customers.
21 Sep 2011 08:54:28 AM: how much have voda paid u for your comments
21 Sep 2011 04:43:32 PM: Haha nothing and I'm not against what most people on here are saying. Lots of people on here have valid complaints and I think it's good for people to know some of them but too many people on here go on about how vodafone should have their license removed etc etc which is just ridiculous. Every company has their fair share of complaints... None of them are perfect. If you want the best quality pay the most money... Simple. Telstra doesn't have plans as cheap as vodafone so you get what your paying for
22 Sep 2011 04:45:05 PM: I "upgraded" from a happy '3' customer to a very unhappy Vodafone customer - not by choice, that's just what's happened, oh I wish I could turn back the clock there's no way I would've agreed to change over.
Currently taking the issue to the TIO after not getting anything resembling a satisfactory response from them.

I just received my Vodafone bill and got a $202.69 add-on for 1,902,509 KB of national data on a Nokia 6760 on 15-Aug-11. However, the phone was used only for phone calls and e-mail so I am at a loss to figure out how one can amass that much use (the phone normally uses 8 KB to 215 KB). Called Vodafone customer service (India) and after 45 minutes had to talk to a supervisor (Kripa) as the original customer service agent would clearly not listen to my complaint. Received a call back from Kripa a few days later and stated that Vodafone investigate the charge and the data usage was from the phone and that I now had to pay the entire charge. I asked for the list of websites or other data sources where the usage was incurred from...she stated that that information is confidential and they do not keep track of that information. I know that all data backed up and monitored by government security agencies...so she was unwilling to provide me with any information on where the Nokia 6760 downloaded that much data. As they were unwilling to reduce or eliminate the charge which is a normal practice with US cellular carriers (including Vodafone's affiliate Verizon), I stated that I would pay the bill but complain profusely to others I come in contact with, as well as file a complaint with ACCC. I also switched out the SIM on the phone to a simple unlocked Alcatel voice/SMS-only phone as having a smartphone is a "ticking time-bomb" in American parlance to being assessed major league data charges regardless of whether one actually used the phone for Internet and e-mail or not!
19 Sep 2011 11:57:33 PM: I also lodged a complaint with the ACCC and am mighty unhappy because they only told me to write to my local minister... hopeless. they let Vodafone get away with blue murder.
20 Sep 2011 12:22:33 PM: Sorry, just realised that swearing is not allowed. Feel free to delete my "Oh F*ck" comment.
20 Sep 2011 08:22:40 PM: No worries commenter above! I've removed your comment as you asked but some swearing is fine. Just so long as it's not excessive or directed at one person. Thanks for dropping by.

I bought a Voda SIM in the UK to use on my UK-Europe trip. Put 20 pounds on the phone in Italy, and it magically disappeared 2 days later although I only spent 4 pounds of it.
Rang Voda who confirmed that they didn't know where the credit had gone, and only gave me 10 pounds back.
I used 2 pounds (roaming internet) and lo and behold, all my credit magically disappeared.
Called Voda -again-, put on hold for 10 mins (paying roaming costs off my partner's phone as mine has no credit with which to call!), and told that the reason is still unknown to them and they won't give me any credit as it'll probably disappear again.
Refer my case to the faults team who might resolve in a couple of weeks but will be unable to call me as I'll be back in Aus by the time they fix it...
In the meantime I'm stranded with no map or internet or credit to call/text, and Voda refuse to help further.

FAIL.

I'm on a $49 cap with an extra 2 GB of data.
After 5 months on this contract I get my first bill for overusage of data.
I checked the data usage on the bill and I can clearly see a spike where
The data has jumped from 70 mb a day to between 220-340 mb a day.
And its continuing at the same rate. I absolutly have not used extra data
in this period. VF won't credit me or do anything. At the rate I'm going I will have used 9 gig in a month. What can I do? I need the internet on my phone.
Also my internet has decreased in quality often showing up problem with connectivity.
I need to leave ASAP.
16 Sep 2011 11:41:24 PM: I had the same thing happen to me for the first time ever in my contract, i never exceed my cap amount, did nothing different and then they tell me that i went over by 1500 dollars. i am in the process of fighting them about it based on my previous usage history. i am lodging a TIO complaint on monday if they dont sort it out.

19419 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Confusion at 12 Sep 2011 04:39:19 PM
This is the editorial from the Sydnet Morning Herald editorial regarding Vodafone and other telecommunications companies --

"Your call is important to us"

MARKETING researchers refer to a critical tipping point at which customers become sworn brand enemies, consumers so passionately enraged by service failure that they will bad-mouth a company at every opportunity and go out of their way to sabotage the business in any way they can.

The "Vodafail" website is, unfortunately, a good measure of the extraordinary level of customer rage among telecommunications consumers. The parody site offers dissatisfied customers a chance to share their pain - and compete for various dubious honours such at the longest time spent on hold (257 minutes continuously). The site was constructed by a frustrated customer during the time he wasted trying to resolve his problems with Vodafone, which makes an obvious point. Yet the telecommunications industry has been fully deregulated since 1997 and such competition is supposed to deliver price and service benefits. What has gone so wrong that more than 200,000 Australians complained to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman in 2009-10, double the number of complaints annually in the considerably larger British market?

First, Vodafone is no standout when it comes to poor service and confounding consumer information. It seems all telephone companies go out of their way to exploit the increasing complexity of telecommunications services to their advantage, making consumer choice virtually meaningless.

Take the so-called cap on which most mobile phone contracts are based. "Capped" means limited or shut off, and so implies a maximum payment. But in a phone contract a cap is a minimum payment. Go over the cap and call prices and data costs rocket.

One case highlighted in an Australian Communications and Media Authority inquiry, released last week, featured an overwhelmed father who was unable to determine when his daughter had reached her $129 cap and found himself facing a $4544.71 monthly bill. Research by the Brotherhood of St Laurence found that if the first 15 hours of mobile phone use cost $79 a month, the next 15 hours put the bill up to $889. Other consumers are paying too much for plans far above their usage. With smartphones and service "bundling", the market is just getting more complicated. The authority's proposal that ''cap'' and other misleading terms be banned and that the true, comparable cost of a two-minute call, for example, be disclosed makes good sense. It's up to the phone companies to turn their reputations and service levels around. It would be real failure of the market and the industry if regulators have to step in to clean up the mess.
13 Sep 2011 03:01:23 AM: "MARKETING researchers refer to a critical tipping point" .... Vodafone certainly managed to find it!
13 Sep 2011 08:49:49 AM: Yea the article makes a lot of really good points. They have so many ways of saying something is unlimited even though it has a limit. You have to be really diligent to work out when you are going over your cap and determine how much each call is costing.

19386 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is The worst - how to get 50% your bill for the next three months by complaining at 8 Sep 2011 06:32:55 AM
I have been so hacked off with the terrible serviec, dropped calls and slow internet I phoned up complaining on Monday. They offered me 25% my bill for the next three months. I said that's not good enough and after more wrangling I got 50% off for the next three months. I accepted but the next day I got quite annoyed with the service again and phoned up to cancel my contract. I am 5 months away from the end of my contract but told them under no certain terms that they were going to terminated my contract for free, allow me to keep my iPhone which is under contract and allow me to port my number. They tried everything in the book to keep me but I just stuck at it. The call did drop twice during all this due to the crap service and had to repeat my demands. I passed this onto several people I know and they have successfully done the same. As soon as I got out of my contract I went to Telstra and handed them the porting account number and within 10 minutes my number was ported and working on a $49 plan and 1.5Gb data which is much better than the $79 plan I was on.

Give it a go and persevere. They will try everything to keep you but I told them they could offer me a Ferrari and a trip around the world but all I wanted was a phone service that WORKED.

19370 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is where I come from, we call that pathetic at 6 Sep 2011 11:14:19 AM
This morning, I was awoken by a text message alerting me to the fact that my current months bill was in excess of $1700, and that I should call an unfamiliar customer service number immediately to avoid account suspension. Since my billing cycle only started a couple days ago, and I have recently been checking my usage every night, I was very surprised that I could have gone over, when last night there were no excess charges. Having googled the provided customer service number and finding no relevant result I began to suspect a scam, and very warily logged into myvodafone.com to examine my usage. The resultant page explained:

Sorry for the inconvenience
- There has been a communication problem and your request has not been processed. Please try again later.

No matter how many times I tried reloading, I was taken to the same message. When I viewed my account summary, the only page I could successfully load, the Amount owing was more than $1900, and there was still no way to see the description of charges. So I called vodafone, (the regular customer service number, not the one included in the text) and asked many questions regarding the charges on my account. I was told that there were currently issues in their system, and they would not be able to look into my account details. The nice woman then told me to wait 24 hours and call back. As I was quite distressed that my account might be suspended, I told her that I did not feel comfortable waiting around for a full day, at which point she told me to call back in three hours, and the problem should be fixed... (It wasn't)

I am hoping that my account is experiencing the same glitch that the call center is having, and when I wake up tomorrow, this will all have been a dream. Sadly, having found his site and read a few stories that sound closely akin to my own, I feel I may be in for the long haul, and will no doubt lose a considerable balance from my bank account.

Cheers, thanks for listening to a vent.

My modem isn't working, but they refused to send me a replacement, and instead told me to get my computer fixed. I've had several people look over my laptop (including a bloke from Apple) and say there is nothing wrong. Considering vodafone keeps telling me i should reset my modem and the modem won't even reset, i guess its obvious where the problem lies. But they wont send me a new modem. So i asked to cancel my contract - they tried to charge me 359 bucks to cancel. Why do i have to pay over something that is broken? then when i said i wasn't paying that money, they told me that they would send me to debt collectors. I'm still in shock that a simple request for a new modem turned into their service staff telling me that i'd be put into debt collections over a cancellation fee (and note, that is ONLY for the fee - my account is paid and is always up to date!)
6 Sep 2011 01:23:28 PM: WOW! Talk about customer care robots, they are clearly working from cheat sheets for what to do. Derp you're locked into a contract. Derp! Cancellations Fee's apply for early termination of this contract Derp! We dont take any notice or consideration of extenuating circumstances! We read from a sheet. P.S Check your APN settings are correct so that the modem can connect to vodafone's network, also remember that APN settings are different for pre paid and post paid sim cards. You can obtain APN settings from Vodafone's website, also Vodafone employees sometimes have that knowledge themselves.
Hope it gets resolved for you :)

My husband and I were long standing 3 customers. We received a text offer us to swap to Vodafone and receive iphone 4's. Phoned Vodafone to take up offer and was told reception in our home area of Park Ridge South Qld was fine. So proceeded with sign over. Received phones and set-up only to find out reception crap inside our house to the point of no internet connection and call drop outs. And to receive only slightly better reception have to stand outside. We are paying $59 per month per phone for a below average service. Never had an issue on 3 coverage. I now wish we had never swapped but we were miss informed...

They say it would be better but seriously it's alot shitter than the telstra interent at 64kps. Seriously Vodafone, i know you're putting 1 billion dollars into the network an stuff. But pick the game up. I'm getting full reception but interent hardly works. otherwise if it did it's really slow. Ringing customer care is useless. They go through the same technical support over and over again. and seriously it does not work.

For 2 years I have been fighting with Vodaphone over their absolutely poor service.. I have been in discussions with their resolutions and the TIO...although I got a large credit, I have been addressing the issue and found that Vodaphone is solely at fault. Recently because I asked the TIO to review it, I was told by Vodaphone to "port" my services elsewhere. Today I received an e-mail suggesting that I harrassed resolutions. Not the fact (PERSONAL DETAILS REMOVED) but more the fact that Vodaphone have been caught out ripping people off.My internet is already ported to iinet. My mobile is following. I suggest that anyone wanting great service and people who go out of their way to help a customer, then iinet is the one. I trialed their system for 3 months before deciding and it was great. Since porting my net 3 days ago. I have had 6 e-mails making sure everything is fine. As for Vodafail, time to show them customer power.

19334 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Never received a 'fone' but now been black listed... yay! at 1 Sep 2011 04:27:19 PM
Thanks to Vodafone I now been given bad credit rating on VEDA for the first time in my life for a phone that I have NEVER received despite calling Vodafone many times and providing proof that I don't have a phone from them and getting reference numbers from Vodafone they still have the balls to hand me over to collections, this is such a hassle!! This has been going on since JANUARY!! Not happy!! Enough is Enough!!!

The story is: I received a call from a Vodafone girl early Jan 2011 to get me to switch from 3 to them for "better coverage" to which I initially agreed but then changed my mind within 24 hours after speaking to several people that Vodafone is actually worse than 3. The girl then sent me a SMS to say not to accept it when the Parcel gets delivered and send the person with the phone back, which I did. Other than that text I have no proof except... They don't have my signature to say that I have received it. This critical information seems to be falling on deaf ears! I received the first bill in February, called them immediately explained the story and have been calling them every month since then (got reference numbers and all). All I get is they will get back to me but never do and they can't seem to see a record of my calls... strange?? Today I received a letter from their collection agency and it states that my name is now black listed on Veda Advantage and I better pay up or they will come and break my kneecaps (chuckle). I have called them up too but... don't hold your breath to action.

1 Sep 2011 10:12:48 PM: If Vodafone isn't willing to sort out the problem for you then it's best to contact the TIO. You can dispute the amount of money Vodafone is charging you or let them know about what they have done to your credit rating. They will then have Vodafone call you and you'll find they are much more willing to help after a complaint to the TIO.

5 Sep 2011 02:05:19 PM: Thanks for your advice above, I have just come off the phone with Vodafone after 1.5 hours and 4 different people and after making it very clear to the last person after being given the usual run around with her too that I will take this to TIO and Today Tonight after I come off this phonecall if it does not get resolved to my satisfaction. (Its a shame that we have to threaten before any action). She has promised me that my name will be cleared and the full amount reversed in 3 - 4 business days. Well I can only wait and see. I will be back here if that has not happened. Thanks for your support, its easier when you know you're not alone :)
10 Sep 2011 10:10:28 PM: Update: I ended up filling in a form via the TIO online and someone from Vodafone called me back the very next day, confirmed that this should not have gone on for so long nor should it have happened in the first instance. I have received an email from the Vodafone representative which states that the whole amount is no longer outstanding and that my credit rating will be restored in full.

19333 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Catch-22 at 1 Sep 2011 02:17:38 PM
I've been offwork due to illness for several months and as such I haven't had all my bills paid on time. I got an sms and a phone call from vodafone the other day explaining that my bill was overdue and the SMS asked:

"please pay $x immediately by dialling 1527 from your mobile"

whilst the phonecall had asked me to call the same number from my handset if I was unable to pay. Either way, I try to let people know if I'm late for a bill what the situation is and that I plan on paying as soon as possible (I've paid it just now).

However, when I tried to call the number from my handset I was informed that I had call barring in place, which is of course something I was already aware of and considering I'd just been contacted in two different ways asking me to call that number from my handset, I didn't think would actually be an issue.

My illness has made it hard for me to deal with the problems I've had with vodafone, so I've mostly just acceppted it for now with every plan on changing provider when my contract is up. The fact that I tried to contact them the way they asked me to, and they give no other contact options in case they have infact barred you from making calls, has really demonstrated how fractured the administration of their service is, not just how badly they've managed their network.

On the topic of making payments, why does it take 24 hours for payments made via CC on their website to be applied to your account?
1 Sep 2011 02:26:23 PM: Amazingly, my payment was actually processed within half an hour or so, so I suppose the 24 hours they mention isn't always the case...
1 Sep 2011 02:38:39 PM: you should contact today tonight and let them know your story
http://au.news.yahoo.com/today-tonight/contactus/suggest-a-story
1 Sep 2011 02:59:01 PM: I find today tonights reporting methods to be sensationalised and to be honest, offensive. Regardless of my opinion of vodafone, I wouldn't consider contacting today tonight with my story.
1 Sep 2011 04:16:53 PM: who doesn't? it's pitting one beast against another. if you do wish to take action beyond posting on this site, you could try TT as it is pitting one unsavory beast against another. try writing to your minister for a more civilised, albeit ineffective, alternative. as a third alternative, you could do nothing and continue to let yourself be ripped off by this mob and their caper. it's completely up to you - I'm just throwing suggestions out there. In any case I do hope u get better soon =)
1 Sep 2011 06:10:37 PM: Or as this site suggests I can contact vodafone to make a complaint to them. If I'm looking for restitution, and Vodafone don't help me, I can also contact the Telecommunications Ombudsman.
I can't help but think you're from Today Tonight and you guys haven't got enough people complaining about speed cameras or dodgy tradesmen to go after...
1 Sep 2011 06:23:09 PM: i'm not from TT. i was ripped off by vodafone in december last year....... and I haven't forgotten ;)

I complained to: vodafone. this website. the tio. the accc. ...... nothing was done.

i don't wanna see it happen to others.

if you don't want to take your grievances further, then don't - simple. i'm simply pointing out that there are more options available to you - this wasn't appearant to me until severl months into my problems with VF - don't wanna see anyone else in the same pickle! don't shoot the messenger bro! ;)but perhaps if they screw you again in the future (which I guarantee they will), don't come crying here. others have done their bit: 23,000 signed up in a class action. so far you've had a good whinge but haven't done jack to stop it happening in the future ;)

PS i'm insulted you thought i was from TT. do i really sound so thick? :)
1 Sep 2011 06:31:47 PM: The point of this site is to document the lousy job Vodafone are doing. Just because I don't necessarily want to take this particular instance further doesn't mean I shouldn't mention it on here, or that I shouldn't "come crying here" if it doesn't happen again.

Signing up for a class action isn't doing your bit, and you've got no idea whether or not I have signed up to it.

All you know at this point is that I have no interest in reporting it to TT. To be honest, if I thought that it was worth it, and wanted to, I'd report it to ACA before I even considered TT. ACA aren't a whole lot better, but better nonetheless.

I've had a lot of practice with dealing with issues with Telecommunications companies, both for myself and helping other friends through the process, so I hardly think, on your limited knowledge, you're in any place to say I haven't done jack to stop it in the future.

And yes, you do still come across as someone from TT
1 Sep 2011 06:32:58 PM: That first paragraph should end "if it happens again."
1 Sep 2011 09:42:09 PM: with all respect voda have 7 million customers - helping yourself and "other friends" is definitely a step in the right direction but isn't going to do all that much,in fact, its impact is minimal.

as you say you can go to the TIO. watch out, they'll fine Vodafone $30. yes, $30. pocket money. you think they care about you and your friends complaining to the TIO? ans: they don't care about you. or your friends.

you're probably better off going for a "game changer" .... like regulation which could change the way telcos are punished for poor performance and false advertising claims so as to affect their bottom line (i.e. profit - not just reputation). this can be achieved if it has the political drive, and that'll only happen with public support. Public support is achieved through media coverage, raising awareness, etc.

"you still come across as someone from TT". prick ;) :)
1 Sep 2011 10:11:06 PM: I think it's best to raise the issue directly with Vodafone via their customer support line as some people have suggested. If that does not work (or they don't sort it out properly) then please do contact the TIO. Although the fine for Vodafone might start off small it increases to well over $1000 if Vodafone doesn't solve the problem.

An official complaint to the TIO will generally be all you need to get the problem solved.

Vodafail.com Moderation Team
2 Sep 2011 12:35:53 AM: iagree that the TIO does eventually resolve the issues, whether that be by letting the customer out or whatever. but the point is vodafone would have already sucked $$$$ from the customer. if you do the math $$$$ - $30 = profit. so Vodafone still end up in front - what disincentive is there for them to ever stop their behaviour? none (ok. $30, and up to over a thousand dollars, but if you look at how many reach over $1000 its extremely few). their reputation gets a beating but they obviously don't care, and can still market their products aggressively (bad press hasn't stopped old Clarkie jumping back into their commercials) and get heaps of sales. Vodafone sales reps still say they're signing up 70-100 people per month which is just as many as they were pre-vodafail. it shits me royally.

19305 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is A Joke at 31 Aug 2011 07:49:07 AM
Well I'm now convinced we are not going to see improvement in vodacorpse network soon. Just finished a road trip from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast as well as taking in the Hinterland. I placed the handset in 3G perfer mode to see what would happen. During the trip the handset was spending more time flicking between 3G to 2G to no network. Not once did the handset lock into one mode longer than a few kilometers of driving. The surprise came up on the lookout in Maleny over looking the whole of the Sunshine Coast.... No Network. Now from this lookout you see the city suburbs ocean, so god knows why no reception. By the time I check in to a Motel in Marcoola, my handset battery went flat due to it trying to lock in to a strong enough signal for reception. If I had of left my Handset into 2G mode I would of had 30hrs of battery life, not 5 hours, by having the handset flicking between modes to get a strong signal. Now I'm hearing Vodacorpse may take up to another 12 months to complete the upgrades to there Network. So I wish Vodafone would stop misleading the public by listing updates to there network, because my tests show they have very little to convince me to stay with them, and I'm now counting the weeks when I say goodbye to there Network that was designed for anyone that doesn't rely on reception.

After loads of problems yesterday trying to access Vodafone's website to check my usage, worked well this morning though, why can't they have a simple graphic usage meter like Telstra? Log in, and there it shows how many percent you've used this billing period. With vodafone you got to get out a calculator and add the data used, assuming you know when your billing period actually starts.

Leaving Vodafone. Not paying my bill. Complaint made to T.I.O. last week. What a useless phone company.
Also their website claims to show service in Tinana, south of Maryborough. 1 bar of signal, 8-12kb/s network speed. Pathetic. Telstra, same location (Ned Kelly's), 220-300kb/s network speed.
29 Aug 2011 09:45:20 AM: Im from NSW and ive had the same problem with both my mob and net at the same time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SybJwg7Pg5k
I was with 3, then i upgraded to vodafone (2months ago) as i thought if 3 had good coverage, vodafone should be the same as its the one company now.
Im tired of running all over the house looking for which room has temporary reception, and i have no idea when my billing cycle ends. My next move will be to the TIO if im not able to cancel the contract without charge.
29 Aug 2011 10:15:34 AM: The TIO is the way to go if you don't get anywhere with Vodafone. After filing a complaint with the TIO, someone from Vodafone will contact you within 10 days and they will generally be much more helpful. Goodluck!

29 Aug 2011 01:24:25 PM: lol. Tassie here and I hate checking Internet balances too. I am sick of having to enter my Mobile number 3 times, having to validate it etc on their website. One login should be enough...
29 Aug 2011 02:18:54 PM: It's funny that you have to go to the TIO just to check your balance :)
29 Aug 2011 03:47:11 PM: The TIO is for helping you get out of your contract without being charged. Although the reason you want to get out of your contract might be that you can't check your balance and have billing problems as a result.

Vodafail.com Moderation Team
29 Aug 2011 07:40:00 PM: vodafone don't want you to be able to check it that way they can get you to rack up expensive bills. they don't care if you go to the TIO as someone said on this page it only costs them $30. as if they care!....
29 Aug 2011 07:43:22 PM: what really surprised me is when I got my Telstra 7Gb/$49 business mobile broadband a/c, my registration was rejected, and I expected to speak with somebody with an indian accent to get my access fixed. I almost fell over backwards when I spoke to somebody with an aussie accent. I almost fell of my chair (in relief) when she said she was located in Artarmon, Sydney !!!! And I got my access password fixed in a jiffy. I regret bagging Telstra in the past.... Will be seeking to get out of my "3" contract, as often i get 'no service' in the middle of Robina, as well as Robina Town Centre. The Australian way of doing things (and business) leaves a lot to be desired. If I were Prime Minister, I would give every aussie the opportunity to travel o/s and experience things how they are done in a civilized country. Ring Suncom and you talk to a local-accent human after just 2 button-presses. Ring Swisscom and you identify yourself as a business or residential customer by way of a button-press and you talk to a local human. Why does life down-under have to be so different? Whilst I say thank goodness to have dual citizenship, I fail to see any reason why I should be proud to hold an aussie passport. The Swiss one cost me Fr.85 (about $90) to renew last year. I dare to think what it would cost me to renew my aussie passport in 2 years' time... $200? or more?
29 Aug 2011 07:46:01 PM: Bingo, 29 Aug 2011 07:40:00 PM; you hit the nail right on the head. They want to sting you left right and centre. and they know you'll pay your bill no matter what the amount it. THat's the reason why everyday essentials like electricity, petrol and such is so dear here. People just keep on paying up. Shame I'm not a real aussie, i just don't have that privilege of having a bottomless pocket and a limitless budget....
29 Aug 2011 07:59:58 PM: 3 days down, I do wonder (and hope) the T.I.O. has some clout in resolving ones' problems with loserfone.... A former housemate has taken her complaints with Vodafone to her lawyer, as they have tarnished her credit rating on account of gross billing errors. The TIO has confirmed the receipt of her complaint, 10 days had passed, no answer from Vodafone. They then disconnected her service, she attempted to churn her number to Optus, but Vodafone would not release her number, then she started getting letters from Vodacrap's collection agency, now she applied to get a Telstra service as Optus isn't crash hot, and she was denied the initial service application on account of an outstanding debt with VodaFraud...... Where will we draw the line on this and let them get away with this??? Honestly.. this goes beyond a joke

Was transferred from 3 to Vodafail with the "guarantee" that i would receive better network coverage. Two months on after the fact I not only receive 4 to 5 call drops outs, multiple "call fail" messages, SMS sending failures, shoddy at best call quality and not to mention the abysmal internet quality. I call the ever helpful Vodafail only to be told that I live in an area that they know has network issues and that i also happen to work in an area that has known network issues. I am told my residential area has no planned upgrades but that my work are will be upgraded in the next 3 months; i am then asked if this is acceptable...clearly not i reply. I also mention that even when i am in metro/cbd brisbane, i show "full" signal + 3G and still experience similar issues. Vodafails response is to offer my 50% discount for three months and if no network improvement noticeable then they will be willing to "revisit" the issue, again no no i say. Asking why i should have to endure another 3 months when clearly i should have been made aware of the poor network coverage in my area PRIOR to my transferal i am told that this is the "best" they can offer. Oh dear Vodafail...when will you learn...I have already convinced 5 fellow colleagues not join Vodafail...however sweet their deals seem to be...all i can suggest fellow suffers is that you do exactly this, on mass spread the word to anybody and everybody eventually Vodafail WILL have to do something...

19225 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is epic fail --> last straw !!! at 23 Aug 2011 09:40:56 AM
Goodbye Vodafone. Has the audacity to charge me for excess usage, I supposedly used 5.5Gb of data on Aug 14, when in reality used about 150Mb in the 2hrs I was on-line, turned device on, went online, checked usage and wrote in diary, switched device off and went to be. COMPLAINT LODGED WITH T.I.O. TODAY ! They even charged me for usage when I was up at Maryborough, staying at Tinana where they have NO SERVICE, and over the 3 days I supposedly chewed up around 3Gb of Vodafone's data, even through the device was in my laptop bag, and turned off, not used due to lack of network coverage, so I used my friends' pre-paid Telstra NextG (and was very impressed with their network speed).

Did the unthinkable yesterday and walked into Telstra store Robina and signed up to their NextG 'ultimate' business plan, $49/mth for 7Gb and the Sierra 753S Aircard.

www.ozspeedtest.com - did a speed comparison (3Mb file speed test)
Test#1: 0630 today : location: Bronte Crt, Robina
VodaFraud: 72Kb/s
Telstra NextG: 304Kb/s
location: Bronte Crt, Robina
Test#2: 0930 today : location: Max Brenner's, Robina Town Centre
VodaFraud: 102kb/s (a little bit better)
Testra NextG: 317kb/s

VODAFONE - YOU SUCK ! goodbye vodafone.
PS: Telstra $49/7Gb is a business plan, you need an ABN - and you get the WiFi device for free
If you don't have an ABN, the stand-alone cost is $59/mth for 7Gb, and you have to pay $299 for the device up-front, but you get a credit of about $250 in your 1st or second bill I'm told, and the device is network locked. Mine is unlocked under the business plan. Just tried it with the VodaFone SIM, works fine, but no improvement in network performance over the Huawei E585 pocket wi-fi. Same readings.
If you have multiple Telstra services, you can get your $59.95/7Gb plan for as little as $39.95

23 Aug 2011 09:51:13 AM: when I went into the Robina Telstra shop, I asked to do a speed comparison test in a real-life situation with my laptop, their rep Pat was most helpful.
The real-life situation was logging into my sendoutcards.com site, going to main menu, create card, create picture plus card, upload a 3.3Mb photo, drag photo into front panel of card, then stop timer.
On Vodafone, this process took 4min25sec
Pat turned on the Telstra NextG little black wifi, gave me the security code, I refreshed back to the main page, start timer, same sequence as above, the whole process took 1min4sec.

Data consumed for this operation: 7.6Mb on Vodafone, 7.5Mb on Telstra - about the same, according to the data usage display on the respective devices.

There were 2 other telstra reps, and about 4 in-store customers watching this little test of mine, because another person there was enquiring about the telstra nextg service. When I said, that'll do for me, let's get started and sign me up, so did the other lady who was there enquiring about nextg.

25 Aug 2011 02:06:47 PM: Downloading 7.6MB in less than 5 minutes on Vodafone! That sounds like a huge improvement from what I used to experience, I'm sure many others still aren't that lucky.

23 Aug 2011 09:45:09 AM: Vodafone should have its telecommunications license suspended so that they are not allowed to take on any more new customers until they can provide a decent service to those already on their over-stretched network - here we are struggling to get a decent service and they're out there like wildfire, promoting their $39/12Gb plan, attracting more users onto a congested network.

19199 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is unfair at 18 Aug 2011 11:37:00 PM
i am a recent ex employee of vodafone. without going into details of how terribly unfair i was treated during this process i just wanted to let anyone reading this know that their are ways to work around the system, sometimes it just takes an insiders know how information.
as of about a 2 months ago vodafone introduced a new policy which allows managers and assistant mangers to issue credit onto contracts for disgruntled customers IN STORE, ON THE SPOT. not many people are aware that as of right now you can walk into a vodafone store and state they are not meeting their end of the contract (supplying customers with reliable service) therefore you do not have to meet yours (paying your bill). customers who said this line to my manager in store usually got their last months bill amount credited to their account. in other words the next month was usually free when people said this.

sometimes the manager would say they cant do anything for them blah blah im sure you have all heard it before however im telling you right now they are lying. i have seen it with my own eyes. more often than not customers who were aware that the manager had authority to credit the account got what they wanted. so some tips for you all
1. walk into store and state that service has been terrible - slow speeds and drop outs work best because it cant be proved wrong using coverage checker. the staff member who served you will usually get coverage checker up so say you travel around through multiple post codes. that way they cant blame outages. your word against theres.
2. if your declined keep going back in and make sure you state you are aware the manager can give you a FPR
3. if they still decline you credit try another store. in the end its the managers decision to credit so keep going until you find someone dumb enough to do it ( my manager certainly was. remember be persistent.
4.repeat as many times as you can. continuation of this process can often lead to cancellation fees being waived because head office get sick of crediting people accounts.

boom. goodluck guys. stick it to the pricks.
19 Aug 2011 01:54:50 PM: I do not like Voadone at all but you have just proven in one posting that you are just as bad as them as you are suggesting that we commit fraud by doing 'it as many times as possible'

Sounds like vodafone is better off without you and the sooner that people like you leave the sooner they might have some good staff that start listening to customers.

Disgusted by your post!
19 Aug 2011 03:51:25 PM: 19 Aug 2011 01:54:50 PM

you lost your right to be disgusted at anyone when you decided to work for Voda.

Vodafone is a scam and everyone knows it. If you work for them you deserve to go to jail just like people in organised crime. You steal people's money or use extortion with threats of debt collectors et al. You are a disgrace, a con-artist, and a criminal low-life. The OP at least came to his senses - Vodafone is a fraud, and the authorities that fail to crack down on it let down our whole country (7 million customers - seriously, when will the government step in?)

In any case, I hope you see that just like the mafia and all other criminals, Vodafone staff are idiots who use scams, extortion, and other criminal methods to extract profit from honest, hard-working and unassuming members of the community. They do no good for society, and only seek to line their own pockets no matter what the expense to others. And just like members of organised crime and other breeds of criminals, rest assured, their time will come.

Every time I try and use data that is on my plan with Vodafone it doesn't work! Simply taaaaaaaaaaaaaakkkkeeeeeeeesssssss forever and I'm bloody well seick of it. I switched from 3 to Vodafone to have a data plan (as 3 is always roaming where I live and it costs 25cents a MB-rediculous) and it doesn't even work! Everyone I speak to hates Vodafone and agrees. I honestly think they'll end up going out of business unless something is done soon.
23 Aug 2011 10:44:21 AM: 3 often roams in Robina, which is smack bang in the middle of the Gold Coast - this ain't out in the sticks, FOOLS ! Bye bye 3, bye bye Vodafone. Going back to Telstra 100% - at least they have network coverage, costs a little bit more, but switching to Telstra you'l be out in front, consider the time wasted dealing with Vodafone and 3's pathetic network coverage.

19182 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Monolithical at 18 Aug 2011 01:56:29 PM
Well I WAS with Three and they suck. I could never get reception at my place, then it would roam to Vodafail network, then it would drop out when I moved my phone. Fail again.

So I rang up to cancel my contract and low and behold it still in my Dad's name, even though we changed it over to my name several years before that. So I had to wait Three weeks before I could get it in my name so I could disconnect.

The day finally came when I could change over to Telstra Freedom Connect Plan. I do this after an hour on the phone. Then I get a nice email saying that I have been billed $49 for an extra day of usage. This extra day was on the day of the swap, I used a Wopping 8MB of data and no calls or text. I then got a second bill for another $20. So I rang up Three. After half an hour waiting then half an our of talking I was finally able to get $20bill wavered but I still had to pay my $49 for a few hours usage.

I am now away from Vodafail and Three and never regret the decision for a bit. I have a HTC Desire S on the Telstra next G network and I always have reception, full bars in my house. I always like to do small speed tests in places I never got Three reception and low behold I can pull at least 100KB/s every time.

After all Three put me through and the crappy network I swear that myself and my children will never use Three and VodaFail crappy services.

Three sucks in Three ways here:
* Three weeks screwing me around
* Three extra bills for one month
* Three+ years of my own ignorance

It's never nice to receive a bill higher than you expect, I'm sure I can help solve what is causing it with you. Sounds like you're educated and aware of the billing corrections recently made and the effect they've had on previously unbilled data services and I appreciate you posting what has happened to date.

We'll be able to look into what may be causing the data use and ensure it's avoided in the future. You mentioned that you don't use any services that are related to the billing corrections made (Peer to Peer, VoIP and Secure HTTP), however some applications and sites may communicate via secure HTTP as part of normal operation and previously you wouldn't have been billed for the data used. This can increase the amount of data you're billed for, even though you haven't changed your usage style/habits. You also mentioned you're in an area of reduced 3G coverage; the coverage checker gives an indication of expected network performance, but you certainly may be able to retrieve data at that location.

You mentioned that data sessions were listed during times that you were either at work or asleep; whilst this may seem like an error, there is a high possibility that if your handset is switched on, it can be retrieving data in the background. This could be an application checking for updates, or simply checking in and letting the application server know you're still around. These small increments of data use will extend a session time over a long period.

If you can let me know what model of handset you're using I can give you information on how to stop background tasks and help eliminate extra data usage. Do you know how much extra data you used overall? We've got a range of mobile internet packs to add to your data quota if you think you'll be using all your allocation next month, you can see these packs on our website here.

I'm sure we'll be able to solve this for you and help ensure you don't receive an unexpectedly high bill again.

19157 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Total at 16 Aug 2011 12:16:39 PM
I keep getting system alert messages telling me that a "transaction has failed due to insufficient funds". I have never made any transactions on my phone. I have an iphone 3gs and my itunes account is not even linked to a credit card. I rang VodaFail and they said they would de-activate premium services. But does that mean I miss out on features I might want in the future? Why can't they just de-activate the ILLEGAL premium service that has NO AUTHORITY to charge my VODAFONE account in the first place. Maybe they could send the details of the company along to the police so they could do something about it....oh that's right, it's not the job of the police to catch corporate criminals who rip off everyday people...everyday. They would rather be out catching people who have their arm resting on the window whilst they are driving (yes it happened to me).
16 Aug 2011 01:47:39 PM: I've been getting those messages all day yesterday. I was wondering why am I getting these messages.
17 Aug 2011 07:18:26 AM: the error message you are getting is because VODAFONE is blocking those illegal premium services for some reason a company has got a hold of your mobile number and are trying to send you message to charge you for something you do not want. in hindsight they are doing you a favour, yes those messages are annoying but VODAFONE is not allowing them to charge you!
1. continue having your premium services barred and no longer receive that error message.
2. get them unbarred and put up with the error message.
also you should thank the police for pulling you over and telling you to keep your arm inside the window, because if you rolled your car you would lose your arm. (and yes it does happen)
30 Aug 2011 07:56:10 AM: if you rolled your car, you're driving like an idiot at totally inappropriate speeds.

19148 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is massive fail at 15 Aug 2011 01:55:33 PM
Massively inadequate coverage in 4069 Queensland (Kenmore, Chapel Hill etc....). No 3G (what the... the suburbs are 7 kms from the CBD). You ring Vodafail to complain and they say there is no problem. Hello? You rang me back on my home line because my call dropped out more than once - how is there no problem.

Anyone else with the same problem in the Western Suburbs of Brisbane and what dd you do about it?
17 Aug 2011 06:58:30 AM: VODAFONE are working as hard as they can on their network at the moment & are rolling out the new 850mhz towers, they are trying to get to every customer as fast and efficently as they possibly can, your call drops outs can be due to a numerous amount of factors, your sim could be faulty and i would advise you go into a store and swap it for a new sim, your area has an 850mhz network already up and running so your handset may not be 850 compatible which can be resolved in by either going into a VODAFONE store or calling MUMBAI to work out a deal with you on how you can get the best service possible. VODAFONE are not just sitting there twiddeling their thumbs they have the best network team working as fast as they can with the new towers, upgrading existing towers and replacing the towers equipment with huawei - number one leading brand. the 1 billion dollar investment in the network is showing all through QLD. if you don't have it yet you will - thats guaranteed. VODAFONE can only help you if you take the first step in wanting to help yourself - first choice would be walk into a store.
18 Aug 2011 03:47:23 PM: Excuses, excuses.
I hated Telstra for their crap customer service.
The only thing worse than crap customer service is crap network service.
18 Aug 2011 03:47:29 PM: Excuses, excuses.
I hated Telstra for their crap customer service.
The only thing worse than crap customer service is crap network service.
26 Aug 2011 08:44:56 AM: Is that even a reply from an actual Vodafone representative - I doubt it.
30 Aug 2011 08:06:48 AM: 850MHz offers superior coverage over 2100MHz so it is well suited to the 'bush' or rural Australia. North America is the only other major country using this technology, it's something like a 60% reduction in the number of cell sites required for a UMTS 850 network when compared to UMTS 2100 for the same coverage footprint.
UMTS850 also offers better penetration into buildings than UMTS2100. Once Vodacrap's upgrade of their base stations to 850Mhz is complete, there should be a significant improvement in the quality of service, but only if your handset is 850Mhz compatible, having said that though, the migration of customers onto the 850Mhz band should see a significant reduction in congestion on their current 2100Mhz networks.

Remains to be seen how close to Telstra's coverage Vodafone will get once their rollout is complete, because Telstra still have substantially more base stations than any other network in Australia. Telstra does have a bit of an unfair advantage in their ability to provide base stations as they own significant infrastructure, and are using many existing DCRS sites in rural areas, whereas Vodacrap and Schlopptus have to put in their own, or lease roof space on a building.

I have just started a new $29.00 cap for 1gig broadband & mobile phone.
I overused my broadband without knowing that I would be charged $600.00 a gig overuse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! totalling $4000.00 because I stupidly left my computer on to download 1 show & it downloaded 20.....vodafone will now destroy my redit rating because they will not aloow me to pay it off, which is completely unreasonable!! there was never any txt notification that I had gone past my amount. there was no mention of overuse charges being absolutley insanely ridiulous!! I can not find any info on there excess use charges anywhere??
Is this even legal??? help :(
11 Aug 2011 09:44:28 PM: listen carefully here's what you do.

1. call vodafone, tell them they told you (at the time of sale) that the plan you were selecting was appropriate for you (tell them you told them your typical usuage patterns and they recommended it for you).

2. tell them you are not paying and that you want them to wipe all but the $29 you are supposed to pay (tell them it's a CAP!!)

3. Don't spend all your life arguing if them. They'll almost certainly reduce it but they'll try get as much as they can out of you. If you're happy to pay what they say, then by all means give them your hard earned cash. But otherwise, if they don't bring it to $29, file a complaint here:
http://www.tio.com.au/ComplaintForm/ComplaintFormS1.asp

4. Insist that they told you the deal you signed up for was a good one for you, given your usage. Let them know you were told it was a "CAP" and that you interpreted this to mean that you would not have to pay more, because you thought it would cut you off or taper your usage once you went over your CAP allowance - as a CAP should do.

5. Be persistent but patient. Keep in mind you do not have to pay a cent to Vodafone for as long as your complaint is with the TIO.

IF these steps do not resolve your issue, go to your administrative tribunal (http://www.qcat.qld.gov.au/), lodge a complaint (it will cost you around $30 last time I checked) and repeat the above steps in the court (don't be afraid of going to court - Vodafone tries to scare people so they have to pay their rip off bills).

Good luck, let everyone know how you go! and don't forget to tell 20 friends never to use Vodafail again!
13 Aug 2011 10:49:14 AM: Great advice. Don't give in and be persistent, it might take some time to get sorted but it's worth it.

Vodafail.com Moderation Team
17 Aug 2011 07:00:01 AM: 1. it is not vodafone's issue that you downloaded 20 shows instead of 1.

2. it would have been explained to you that vodafone do not send messages to tell you are going over that is your responsibility to make a MYVODAFONE account on the vodafone website so you can keep a track of your data usage.

3. your plan is not a cap so you can go over and you have obviously experience this, if you wanted something that would cut off when you got to your usage you should have gone PREPAID.

4. Vodafone do make payment plans with customers who have exceeded over the plans so they will allow you to pay it off your just being ridiculous.

5. Filing a complaint with the TIO will be pointless as your scenario is completely your own fault and vodafone are not reliable for any of these accusations - if you do call all that will happen is "if" and only if what you are saying about vodafone not setting up a payment plan with you is true then the TIO will just make them set one up ( a complete waste of your time)

6. NO CUSTOMER IS EVER TOLD THAT THE $29 CAP IS A CAPPED PLAN - walk into any vodafone store and ask a staff member is this plan a capped plan, i guarantee you will get told NO because its not so lying and saying that you were missinformed will get you no where.

7. vodafone is not trying to scare you into not going to court, but you will have to have hard evidence that what ever this bo-zo who gave you this advise is saying is ther truth which is very doubtful claiming missinformation is not how you will get results.

VODAFONE IS NOT TARNISHING YOU CREDIT RATING - YOUR DOING IT TO YOURSELF.
18 Aug 2011 02:00:08 PM: Regardless if the guy download 20 shows instead of 1. Why the hell is vodaphone allowing so much data overhead then?
18 Aug 2011 04:19:10 PM: Still -- even if it was 20gig, $4000 is extortion.
What's your cut, mate?
29 Aug 2011 08:07:10 PM: Telstra have a $300 cap on excess usage - signed up for their $49/mo/7Gb plan - I queried what happened if I went REALLY over my limit big time. Maximum $300 on excess data usage. A sting but not a major sting...... at least Telstra makes is easy to check your usage, and it shows a bar graph instead of expecting you to add up numbers/figures.....
31 Aug 2011 08:07:55 PM: I agree with you, a sting of $300 is still going to hurt, but it's nothing like $4000. That can put people under extreme financial pressure. It's unscrupulous. Good on Telstra.

Has anyone had problems with the Nokia E5? I have had countless trips and calls to Vodaphone because of handset failures (like hangs and restarts mid call, mid text or internet page). After much grief, and only 3 months into a 24 month contract, I "begged" or a replacement phone when the Vodafone store staff, despite being very nice, coudn't even set up the email to get it to work (after 2 trips to the technicians to be software updated/reloaded -why on a brand new phone?). In the swap the the fantastic (so far) Samsung Nexus, Vodafone now want to charge me an extra $5 a month because the phone is "worth more" (both were on teh $29 cap). Apparently, among the harrassment calls from All Phone telephone sales to renew my contract, they offered me a Combo Deal with the USB of internet access. I have registered my disatisfaciton with the store in question and have now submitted a complaint to the TIO. I have had more use out of my old Nokia phone in the past 3 months because the E5 is always away being fixed or is just too unreliable. Yes, I have service problems too and I work in the CBD, in Newcastle recently, only in range for about an hour but I am hopeful that the promise of fixing their network is true. I can put up with that, but the insult of so much inconvenience then being charged an extra amount for the next 21 months was too much for me. The staff have tried hard including the help desk in Mumbai (who offered a small credit for loss of phone the 2nd time it had to be sent away). They must be so sick of the negativity everyday; I feel sorry for them.

19110 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is chronic at 10 Aug 2011 07:32:46 PM
Been trying to get an explanation as to why im paying $80 a month for a service that only works 50% of the time. This has been going on for months now and they still have not resolved the issue. To make matters worse i went overseas for a month and fell behind on my payments, my phone is now barred - i asked them to kindly un bar it as i will make payments weekly and they are sticking to their guns and making me pay the full amount before i can use my phone again. $80 a month for a network that hardly works and now they have the balls to barr my service because i fell behind payments. No comprimisation, What a joke. What can i do ??
17 Aug 2011 07:07:51 AM: You falling behind in your payments is Vodafone's issue how ? when you signed the form you were signing an agreement that you would pay your bills on time and a month in advance and they only way vodafone will bar your account is if you have not paid two months bills in a row. So i fail to see how Vodafone is responsible for this.

19092 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Not blocking IMEI at 7 Aug 2011 04:28:36 PM
My iPhone 4 was stolen last weekend, upon realising that my phone had been stolen I immediately phoned 1555 Customer Care, however every time I selected the 'lost of stolen phone' option the call cut out. I attempted to call for about 3 hours, then waited until the store opened the next day. I then went into the store, was 'greeted' by incompetent and rude staff who needed me to spell out what my issue was and what I wanted them to do. Finally they gave me a SIM swap but were also unable to get through on 1555 to block the IMEI, I left the store and continued to call the 1555 number, finally 20 hours later I got through and was informed my iPhone IMEI would be blocked within 48 hours, 7 days later and according to both ATMA and Vodafone my IMEI remains unblocked. I have phoned Vodafone numerous times and they are confirmed that they had not blocked it and had no idea why they couldn't do it. They continue to say they will escalate the issue and that they will phone me back, and yet they have not rectified the issue, nor has anyone who has said they will call me back done so. In the meantime for insurance reasons I asked VF to email me a copy of my contract, they said this would arrive in my inbox within 24 hours... 6 days later and nothing. This is one of many concerns I have with Vodafone, I have had 6 months of poor dataspeed and no reception despite working in the city and living 2 ks from the city... I am so over VF and I WILL get out of my contract.
7 Aug 2011 04:42:30 PM: ppl in the store get paid to make sales and couldn't care less what happens to you after you've signed the dotted line. You've tried contacting VF so now go here:
http://www.tio.com.au/ComplaintForm/ComplaintFormS1.asp

and they must get back to you within 10 days
10 Aug 2011 04:10:52 PM: That's not true. If you go into a store and politely ask the staff to help instead of yelling, MOST people in the vodafone STORES (not dealers) will be more than happy to help you as they get paid for being there regardless of what they're doing. I used to work in a CBD store and refused to help customers who were rude. Obviously not everyone is like this, so unfortunately those people have a bad experience.
12 Aug 2011 08:51:22 PM: how do you think customers felt after being lied to, placed on hold for total 20 hours on ten occasions, and after being conned, then not given a refund. gfys
17 Aug 2011 07:10:54 AM: 1. you need to realise that the store people are there to help you and your mood does rub off onto them, you come in yelling and screaming - no matter what your situation is they will give you shit service in return because who are you really to be yelling at them first thing in the morning for something they ARE NOT responsible for.
2. waste your time with the TIO because that will get you know where, vodafone have not breached their contract in anyway.
3. you have lost your phone blocking the imei only stops someone else from putting there sim card into it - you still don't get it back they can use it for videos, apps (if you have any) just the sim can not work inside it so you have not only wasted your time worrying about getting your imei blocked for no reason but you are carrying on and realistically blaming vodafone for you losing your phone.
4. want a copy of your contract - go into a vodafone store (calmly) and ask them (nicely) to print you off a copy.

19076 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Mega Fail at 6 Aug 2011 09:32:46 AM
My Vodafail story:

I moved over to Vodafail in may last year, and went with a HTC Magic. My fiance was already with them, so I came over to get the free V2V calls. At the time, we lived in Sunnybank and the only place we could get reception was by going out to the street or standing on a chair in the walk in robe. Wasnt too bad as most of my time I worked in the Valley and had reception there. Anyway, after using my phone for a few months it was having issues with dropped calls, random restarts, and sometimes just completely losing the VF network. I had the distinct pleasure of calling the call centre and was advised to take my phone into the repair centre at Milton. As I was told it would only take an hour to re-flash the software, I took it in at lunchtime and came back after eating lunch.

First fail (not including dodgy handset and crap coverage): The tech working on the phone buggered up the mainboard, so we have ordered parts from Sydney so you will need to wait for a week for the parts to arrive.

Second fail: Call them after a week without the phone to find out if it is ready to pick up. Sorry, the part was not available in our warehouse, so we have ordered it from the manufacturer. It will take about 3-4 weeks to arrive.

I am pretty pissed off now, but what can you do. One would have thought that you would keep stock levels up of current phone hardware, but that would be sensible.

Third fail: Four weeks later, I still havent heard anything so I give the call centre a call to find out what my options are for getting a replacement. Unfortunately I have no option for replacement as I am on a 24 month contract, so I can buy out the remaining 21 months to pay off the handset and move to another provider at some prohibitive rate, or I can buy another handset outright and just use the sim. Not excited about either of those options, I gave the repair centre a call.

Fourth fail: Sorry, didnt someone call you to tell you your phone was ready last friday (this being the Thursday of the following week). Uhh, no...

Pick up the phone, use it for a few more months and still have exactly the same issues.

Fifth fail: Back to the repair centre, somewhat more nervously wondering how long I will be without a phone for, and advised that it will only take an hour. After another lunch at Milton, back to the repair centre and deja vu time. Exactly the same thing has happened - main board broken, no parts in the warehouse, and a month before I get my phone back.

I am normally very patient, but that was it for me. The repair centre advised that the only way I could get a replacement phone was to go through customer care, so I left and called customer care later that day. I was then told that the repair centre are the only ones who can authorise a replacement phone, but as it was now after 5 on a friday I couldnt do anything until monday.

One useful bit of information I did find out was that if you have two repairs performed on the one device, then VF are obliged to swap your handset with another to the same value or less.

I went into a retail store, and to the storepersons credit, he was very helpful in talking with the customer care people over the phone and organising a swap to a new handset, a HTC Desire.

Sixth fail: As part of the swap, they needed the old phone back. Luckily the store guy gave me the Desire so I had a phone over the weekend, but then I had to go to Milton to pick up the crap phone and take it back to the Mt Gravatt store. Got to the Mt Gravatt store and the guy I spoke to wasnt there, so they were going to give me another phone, but eventually got it sorted.

The new handset is much more reliable, but VF coverage and data speed is still woeful. We moved to Bellbird Park and now have one bar if we are lucky. My fiance is now 37 weeks pregnant, so I am just hoping that I am home when bubby decides to make his arrival because she probably wont be able to call me and who knows how quickly a SMS would go through. She was working at Griffith Uni Nathan Campus where there was also a distinct lack of coverage, so we just used email to talk rather than attempt a phone conversation.

Her contract is up in the next few months, so we will be moving away from VF. Most likely it will be to Telstra because they at least have better coverage and excellent data speeds in comparison.

Major Incompentence on the part of Network Architects & Admins...
What is going on there..??

I have to flood ping a gateway or DNS server for like 20 secs to wake up a "sleeping switch port" (oversubscribed) to get some level of throughput...

The oversubscription model is not designed with the underlying infrastructure capabilities in mind...

I suspect the underlying debt ratio (financial business model) is heavily reliant on an unrealistic oversubscription model to generate the required revenue streams capable of servicing the underlying debt facility...

What has been experienced to date is typical of short-term improvements (a reduced oversubscription model) in performance which coincidently disappear once media has changed it's focus from Vodafone (VF) and the VF propaganda machine has blurted out how committed it is to customers and network improvements while re-establishing the previous oversubscription ratios because the underlying debt facility requires it...

The root cause is not in the technology, it's in the financial business model that supports VF...

Nearly all business use debt facilities to provide operating cashflows, but, a carrier like Telstra has invested nearly $4 billion in it's 3G network, but they have chosen to offer less value for money to end-users but provide superior network coverage and performance using an oversubscription rate that is aligned to the underlying capabilities of the network platform architecture...

Fix the root cause of the problem and you would win a base of loyal customers committed to a business that is committed to providing performance and value...

Definitely no improvements since the media firestorm of some months ago....

19024 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is FAILLLLL! at 2 Aug 2011 12:01:48 PM
Been with Vodafone with my iPhone 3GS for over a year and no issues... been really happy until a few weeks ago when I received an email saying that, based on my usage, I may incur additional charges based upon a new charging policy that means Vodafone would start charging for some things it hasn't previously charged for (such as visiting Websites that require you to enter login details). Okaaaay... not happy, but fair enough I would just change my usage habits.
Coincidentally, a few weeks later (ie, at the end of July) my internet and email speeds on my iPhone 3Gs have dropped to a snail's speed. Sllooooooow internet loading times, emails with attachments that take forever to download (a 400kb attachment took nearly 15 minutes to download this morning) and sometimes I can't even connect to the AppStore or iTunes. Been going on for about a week now...
On the phone to Vodafone now...

Vodafone has loss of up to 300,000 customers !!!!!

The following is part of the news from The Australian newspaper --

"VODAFONE Hutchison Australia is today expected to reveal an exodus of mobile customers from its network, with analysts tipping the departure of up to 300,000 in the six months to June 30".

Full report can be found at --
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/australian-it/telecommunications/mobile-exodus-from-vodafone-as-analysts-tip-the-loss-of-up-to-300000-customers/story-fn4iyzsr-1226106225824

My congratulations to the person who started this website. It goes to show the "power of one" and the effect that one person can have when you get the information out.

2 Aug 2011 09:15:55 AM: if they have lost that many why has the network not started too improve!!!!!!!!!! but i must say that i was on thursday island last week & i had signal just wasn't voda
2 Aug 2011 09:27:57 AM: it hasn't improved because they're still marketing like crazy... they con people into joining and a month later, once they've found out about all the problems, the customer leaves. if you get a phone just for show, and you don't actually ever use it, you'll be fine with Vodacon. But if you ever want to use it to make a call you'll have to go elsewhere, that's why people are leaving, because some people, some strange, strange people, want to make phone calls.

mind you, every time someone leaves it's not simple, you have to learn another language in order to converse with "customer service", you'll be subjected to their baboon-like manners, and finally, when you've negotiated till you thought you couldn't anymore, you'll discover the coveted TIO, who will get you out within 10 days. Now, about 40 days or so after you were first looking for a phone carrier, you are back to where you started, and you can then go to Telstra, Optus or one of the others.

This is the cycle and it's worse than water torture.

Voda is a waste of time, waste of money and a waste of space.
2 Aug 2011 10:12:31 AM: Thanks, I originally started the website to get my personal Vodafone problems sorted out but I'm really happy that I've been able to spend some time on it and help everyone else out as well. I don't think of it as the power of one though, if all of you didn't share your stories and speak up to Vodafone then nothing would have been done.

It shows that when we come together to solve a problem, we can achieve a lot more. Vodafone has said they are investing heavily in their network (now) but I imagine it will take a couple years before all their customers see the benefits.

Life and work in Brisbane City, no coverage, no confirmation from VF as to why, "there is a technical issue, we dont know when it will be fixed, we are sorry..."

THats what we can expect after waiting for 25 minutes, then they call you back within 17 minutes, only to give you this rubbish.

How much more do they need to do before the Federal Government launches an enquiry into the abuse and mockery of the Trade Practices Act this company is actively participating in. We have endured 19 months of what has been the WORST performing contract I have EVER signed and I sing many on a daily basis. Deep breath....only 152 days to go until contract expires. I receive sms messages offering phones and other contracts from them, I would rather a couple of cans and piece of string than this service they offer.

The Federal Government should hang their heads in shame.

Also having the same problems in QLD, where internet isn't working on the phone. They keep telling people to check status updates, but the service status updates say there's nothing going on in QLD.

Also, what the hell kind of contact centre says "we're currently experiencing higher than normal call volumes, please go online for your question", which to me translates to "lolz, we're busy, piss off". Plus in this case, that is moot, because not being able to connect to the internet is the ACTUAL PROBLEM (ignoring the fact I am posting this from my home computer :P).

Anyway, not much we can do, just really needed to vent.
