Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

3911 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is very bad at 27 Dec 2010 04:52:32 PM
I signed up with Vodaphone in february 2009 for a two year contract. I have never before experienced such a bad level of service from any other mobile service provider as I have experienced with Vodaphone. On 24/11/10 because of bad coverage, disgusting service to name a few issues I signed up with Telstra and quit my contract early. What an amazing difference the coverage is to start with.
Some of the issues I had with Vodaphone were no coverage in so many areas on the Gold Coast. I thought the Gold Coast was a major city in Australia and that coverage with Vodaphone would be good. Think again.. Other issues that I was confronted with were.
1. I signed up to a plan as advertised for $79.00, Vodaphone then charged me GST on top of this, no information was given to me by the sales person when signing up about the extra cost of GST. When I went back to query this they told me I should have read the fine print. Very Deceptive Vodaphone.
2. I signed up with them and the phone I was convinced to get- The Blackberry Storm was supposed to be the epitomy of Phones and EXCLUSIVE to Vodaphone. Not a very good phone at all. No wonder it was exclusive to Vodaphone, none of the others wanted it.
3. I paid extra for insurance as the phone was an expensive one. When I lost the phone and went to claim through insurance to get another phone they made me pay $250.00 approx to get it replaced. What the hell was the insurance for then, if I had to pay for a new phone. Also another issue not advised to me by the salesperson. Yet again more deception from Vodaphone.
4. These are only some of my issues I have had. I can't count the amount of times I have gone into a Vodaphone store and got such bad service from their staff.

3843 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is DISHONEST at 27 Dec 2010 04:45:27 PM
My children have signed Vodafail contracts for many phones, yet at our hom e we get NIl reception. Vodaphone like most other Telco's operate dishonestly in the way they state you will have full reception at your home address, which is in urban Brisbane. Vodafone are just a bit more dishonest then the rest.
Great to see this site up and running. People avoid Vodafone at all costs. They are a dishonest company running over its consumers. Worse then the Qld Govt and that is a big statement. DISHONEST DISHONEST DISHONEST

3829 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Always Loosing Connection at 27 Dec 2010 04:44:19 PM
I am an Invalid Pensioner, and i am on the net threw a wireless modem (3g) and i also have a touch phone connected to Vodafone which drops out all the time and i still get charged the same amount. My Internet drops out and i have to continually reboot because of this, and they charge me and take more and more of my downloads because of this, i can not afford to be charged extra as i am on a pension and they don't care, and when i ring them it's always an Indian speaking person and i cant understand what there saying, they have charged me $300 once because of automatic updates and re connections which is not my fault, this mounth is the same, i have gone over and i am frightened about my Bill. I never use all my calls on my Phone or my internet and i never get renburst for left over or not used services, this needs to change.

Take a photo of your phone the reception it has etc. As an example I just took a picture of my iPhone with only one bar with the calender on so you can see time, date, reception the non existing 3G symbol. It has my desk in the background so they try and get out of it they are going to have a challenge.

The next photo was literally a "No Networks" available warning - classisc!

Bought a Dell inspiron package with Vodafone 2years ago which included the notebook & wireless Internet, that became a total waste of money after the inspiron's motherboard failed after 9 months of use previous to the hardrive failing within 3 months. I tried returning the product from the place of purchase with a response that it was Dell's problem, so I rang Dell who responed by saying the product was out of warranty. I asked about our consumer rights in QLD with a stern reply that this doesn't apply to Dell. Went back to the Vodafone store of purchase with a response from staff 'if you ring customer service & ask for loyalties they might help you if your lucky!' I tried ring the C/service but there was no loyalties option. I give up! so I'm still paying for this contact which I don't have the facilities to use which were supplied by Vodafone, Thanks VODAFAIL

3773 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Constant Dropouts!~ at 27 Dec 2010 04:39:56 PM
I have had my new IPhone on a vodafone plan for only 3 months, but am thoroughly sick of its poor performance. I thought the phone was faulty, until I went into a Vodafone store, and the young lady showed me that she couldn't get network coverage either. In a city of 60,000 people? Disgraceful! Constant "network error messages", sites taking up to 5 minutes or more to load (if at all) and THEN giving an error message, and phone calls that drop out so much that the call either ends itself or I end it in disgust. What the heck am I paying for??!!

Can barely get reception where I am, even though I am near an antenna. Have tried multiple phones and nothing works, even others have the same issue.
Then there's the whole issue with the Android OS updates... takes them that long to make the latest update available that it is no longer the "latest"... Pretty piss-poor effort vodafone!

3755 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is data pains at 27 Dec 2010 04:37:29 PM
When I signed up 18 months ago on a 24 month plan, It was suggested I get the largest plan available, so as to avoid paying high data costs if I go over my limit. Vodafone data tranfers are so slow on my HTC phone, that even if I was to do nothing but down load data for an entire month, 24/7, I would still be struggling to make my limit. I should have being more realisticaly informed on a less expensive plan, for the usage I told the sales person at the time I would use. I calculate I am out of pocket each month because I was told I would need a bigger plan. Once my contract runs out,(aprox 6 months) I will be cutting and running from vodafone, unless they pic up there act with down load speeds. And yes....I am in a down load hot area, the service is worse when I am out and about.

3737 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Over use messages - thanks after it hit $400 at 27 Dec 2010 04:35:49 PM
I have a $79 plan with Vodafone.
I was using my phone heavily due to a family incident.
I regularly tried to check the account balance on 1512.
The service "was temporarily unavailable call back later".
So I did call/sms and then try getting to speak to a human - who eventually conceeded the service had failed and was out of order for at least a week.
She referred me to the online web site and I could check it there.
I asked how can that be so if you cannot access it and help me - she said it works.
Two hours later trying online - and smsing the 1512 number - still "out of order".
Eventually after another week I started getting your service is abnormal please check your account usage by contacting us, using 1512 or checking online.
Still no access, no help.
I stopped using it.
Called the vodafone help line who said they could not help me as the balance and usage system was unavailable.
Funny 2 days later my bill was generated with a $432 bill for excessive usage.
When i called "customer service" and ended up speaking to a supervisor she said "you used it, you pay, or we will place it in the hands of a debt collector".
Being upset I wrote a letter and explained the situation and the lengths that I went to manage the situation.
Despite the letter with the detailed explanation I got a letter back "thanks for your recent letter, you used this amount of service so you are required to pay".
Thanks Vodafail.
28 Dec 2010 08:49:43 AM: If the balance check system of my credit card was down and i overspent on that i would still be charged for the money i spent on it. Why is this any different?

15 Jan 2011 10:54:08 PM: Is it possible, at all, that somebody with access to the system, could have put someone else's call on to your bill?

I have had promises that they are upgrading the networks since Sept 2010 and it hasnt happened yet. Very upset customer

Over Vodafone full stop! I call up to complain about the service and was on hold for over 33mins to be told 'there were no problems reported' - Yes there is, so she transfers me to the team that looks after the technical side.. on hold for another 10 mins so I hang up.. I emailed Vodafone directly to lodge a complaint, I recieved a reply stating there were routine upgrades but not a major problem and changed the status of my complain to 'solved' - I replied stating it was not solved and I requested a consultant to call me as I cant be sitting on hold for another 30 mins + I recieved a further reply stating that If I wanted to have it resolved I have to call my self. I find this disgusting that a telco would do this. I have constant drop outs, msg fails and no service on my ph. I want to change to Optus now!!

Not impressed what so ever!!

i have been with vodaphone for over 9 yrs. i was going to change to telstra at the end of my last contract but vodaphone gave me a deal i was happy with. this is where it ends. every bill since has billed me over $160 over my cap. in all the years i've been with them i've been over maybe 6 times. i call 1512 regulary to make sure i'm not over but with my last bill on the 28th november it told me i had $40 credit. On my bill statement it starts charging me as of that day. Even though i didn't use my phone much they are telling me i used grossly over my cap over the next couple of days. i had $4 credit today, made 1 call in which went to message bank so i hung up straight away. My credit now goes down to $2. Then it drops out all the time so they charge you another '$1.15' straight up to remake the call. Then there is the internet. Most of the time i can't get on. Then there is the fact i can't understand what customer service is saying to try and rectify my problems. Waiting in line up at vodaphone at the hyperdome qld for 2 hrs with a 3 yr old,8 mths pregnant to find out the guy couldn't help me, i have to talk to someone i don't understand in India.

3645 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is This has been going on for 6 years at 27 Dec 2010 04:25:36 PM

I could not get coverage at my home in Nudgee.
The phone get dropping out. Full signal on the phone then nothing and vice versa.
I complained direct to Vodafone who blamed the handset.
After three times being "repaired" and then replaced by a new set it was pretty obvious it was not the handset.
My house mates are connected with Optus and Telstra and they have no problems.
In fact they can attempt to call me sitting across the room and they will get "phone is turned off message" even though I am sitting across the room with it on.
Vodafone eventually did a "drive by" and in their words "an assessment" of the signal in the area.
When I called back to find out their findings they refused to talk to me.
I asked for a discount or compensation due the missed calls, the delayed sms messages, the delayed mms, and of course the frustrating drop outs which forced me to use my home phone.
They refused - without any explanation.

Other frequent areas of drop outs in this region are on the north side of the Gateway Bridge - both sides.
Around the Pimpama exit on the M3.

The list goes on!
I am please to know that I am not "an idiot" or a "complaining customer" as I have been made out to be by Vodafone.
With these testimonials that I have read it seems that more people have been disadvantaged than advantaged by this poor provider.

After sitting on the vodaphone help line for over an hour to try and get this sorted I was told I needed a vodaphone friend to ring through which I thought was pretty unfair to then make them wait an hour for an issue not their fault. why inconvience my friends for an issue that isn't their fault?

I received a letter from debt collectors saying I owed Vodafone money for an account I never knew I had. It took over 3 months and god only knows how many calls to get through to Vodafone. As far as I was able to find out, it was a computer problem that made another account when I resigned up to my mobile broadband plan. In the end Vodafone sent me a letter informing me that my name was used in fraud and that I didn't own them anything. They never gave me anything for the pain I went through with the debt collectors (they had hired) and with Vodafone. If anyone wishes to resign up with Vodafone, do it in store!!!

Am no longer one of their coustomers, but had to wait to get out of contract. Was sold a dongle that did not work at all and was on a 79 cap which I could not use . I had to pay $100 to get them to reduce the cap to 49 but was only able to use phone when I went to work.I was a customer of theirs for a good 20 years. Was very disapointed with their response to my problem.

I live on Bribie Island. On numerous occasions I have rung my son(also a Vodafone user) His phone rings through to voicemail but he never hears it ring. I was accusing him of not having his phone on, but have discovered after trying to ring him in the same room, that his phone just does not ring. He has also sent messages late at night after work so I could pick him up - I did not receive the messages until up to 3 hours later.

3522 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is what a joke at 27 Dec 2010 04:17:41 PM
been signed up for the last 2 months, must have had my head buried in the sand coz never heard of this many problems before. Changed over from 3, which in Townsville provided us with roaming via Telstra, and always had a reliable edge signal. Whilst in Melbourne my wife and i got our new phones on contract. We had good coverage, even whilst in the Yarra Valley, full HSPA signal. On returning home to Townsville however is where the problems started. My phone's battery was crap, barely lasted 10 hours on standby doing nothing on the phone. Was told by the phone support, goto the store have it swapped over on early life. Got to the store to be told that it couldnt be done as I had got my phone from a dealer not the company, and would have to wait 2 weeks for it to be sent out in the mail. I cracked it. After hours of arguing, the store eventually caved it and gave me a new phone. Amonst all of this, when asking the phone support about my signal issues, the guy said "we can only guarantee coverage outside, we cant guarantee it inside your house". What the? I cracked again. How could i get brilliant signal from 3 (roaming on Telstra) anywhere i went in Townsville, and not with these idiots when they are the same company now? Am very disappointed, should have stayed with 3 until they disappeared as least would have reliable signal.

I live in the Gold Coast and am committed to a 2 year vodafone plan.

I went onto a high end plan so that I could replace my landline.

The vodafone coverage maps show that I am saturated by perfect 3G coverage, but the 2G and 3G coverage is so bad that I am unable to make or receive phone calls from inside my home!

Telstra service is perfect in my home, so I'll be moving to them ASAP/

I got a 24 month contract on a phone that didn't work from day one, after taking it to the vodaphone shop many times to get fixed, I was told there was nothing wrong with it. It kept loosing reception, not receiving messages and glitching. After being frustrated for a year I went back another time and asked for an upgrade to add a new phone on my plan. I was told there was no such thing as an upgrade... so I left. Then a few months later I got a new plan with vodaphone (worst mistake) and I was told by the guy that he would never sell this phone to anyone.... funny that because he was the man who sold me the phone.... after a few months of having this new phone I was overcharged on my bill, so I called vodaphone only to speak to a man who asked me if i wanted an upgrade on my phone.... THE UPGRADE THAT DIDN"T EXIST IN THE FIRST PLACE, THE UPGRADE THAT COULD OF SAVED ME A NEW PLAN AND MY MONEY.

I have been a vodafone customer for about 5 years and never had too much of a problem with them. A few months ago when i moved to cairns my trouble started with Vodafone. I had no reception, after numerous phone calls, numerous hours at a time waiting for customer service and quite a few drop outs and i finally got a little compensation. I was also told the service would be better and if anything it has gotten worse!! I have tried to break out of my contract with them as they aren't providing a very good service as one of the major phone providers. I was told that i would have to pay!! HOw is that fair?? They are quite happy to take my money but can't seem to provide me with a decent service. I will quite happily tell people to reconsider choosing Vodafone as they are no where as good as what they used to be. It has gotten to a point that i have reception but no calls are coming thru to me! How ridiculous!!

Some days it would stay on for a couple of hours when i tried to contact someone to find out whats wrong ,some Indian would answer and i couldnt understand him. When I went to their shop in Cairns, I was told they couldn't help I had to ring up support, back to square 1. Same with my phone, I'm trying to start a business and the connection is ratshit I try to talk to my girlfreind and it keeps dropping out. Continual loss of service in various Brisbane metropolitan areas, phone calls dropping out, internet usage on phone incredibly slow or non existent due to no coverage,(I dont even bother using it now), once again in most Brisbane metropolitan areas where I should have coverage. Whilst living at Graceville I didnt have service in most of the rooms in my house apart from the back deck while I stood on a railing. Have missed numerous texts of importance only to find out they had been sent several days previously. They convinced me to enter a new contract and recommended a Sony ericsson xperia over the iphone4 that I wanted, (most of my friends have them in either the telstra or optus networks and experience no problems). Its the worst phone Ive ever had, but they offered me my first three monthly bills for free So I stupidly took it. Then of course they continued billing me until I complained. Now stuck with a rubbish phone, with terrible coverage for calls, texts and especially internet for the next 2 years!!!! Previously had vodaphone wireless USB broadband but gave me no service when I lived in a inner city Brisbane suburb, had to sign with another provider for internet. Incredibly frustrating calls to customer service with people who I either cant understand or they cant understand me. Have been a customer for over 10 years and its never been as bad as it is now!

Vodafone's SMTP server is broken for over 4 months and no plans to fix it, and they tell me all I can do is to keep calling them each day (and wait on hold for 1-2 hour before they pick up) and continue to be told "we still don't know". Store staff refuse to help with tech support as the wait is too long for vodafone's technical assistance and they have other things to do. Billing is incorrect each month and I'm charged excess use fees even though I'm still under my cap, after 3 people acknowledge the problem and fail to fix it, the fourth says the problem doesn't exist and I imagined my conversations with the previous 3 support agents as they have no record of it.

After I involved the TIO they released me from my contract and waived remaining bills if I leave the same day, admitting they cannot provide the service they advertised due to network issues. I'm now with Telstra who give me consistently strong signal, fast performance and I can even send emails again.

My Vodafone phone would send multiple copies of the same message to the same person, sometimes for days. This also happens to a friend of mine. It is becoming very annoying to my friends and frankly very embarrassing to me; there are some types of messages that if you send repeatedly they tend to mean something else other than what it was originally meant to read. But this problem also caused me to lose money from all the messages that I did not send; I still keep my vodafone to receive messages and calls but I am using another provider to send messages. Thank you for your site to allow us to voice our complaints because i have never had feed back from the company after making a complain about 6 months ago. It's sad because I have been with this company for a few years now. Sally

In the last three months I beleive i have had to make three connections at least to complete one short call at a time due to constant drop outs. Text messages are arriving sometimes one day after friends sent them. Missed many social activities and caused disarray with family re: children pick ups etc: Why are we expected to foot bills on time for a service that vodafone itself will not address. I am sure the bad pr will hurt them long term and why have they not allowed consumers to cancel plans or offer free service untill correction of network. Shame on you vodafone for using your consumers as a research and development experiment with your hardware and software issue's at our cost. You should be held accountable for the true cost to your consumers including the grief and frustration of getting concise answers from your staff.

Cuts out randomly, voice messages and txt's coming thru 3 hours late. I've lost business and I am sick and tired of the excuses. I've called the call centre several times and although have been great they simply have no idea of the simple problems at hand. Typical responses, "take the sim card out, have you got coverage on your mobile..." I'm sick and tired of it I want out..!! To cap it all off I was somehow mistakenly placed on outgoing bar for paying my account twice by accident, so I was in credit but to explain this to someone took 3-4 hours of my time, then they bar all my business services....and I could not make any outgoing calls to my fleet...Finally the response I got was that they had made an error and could not understand how the billing system barred my services..well I can understand because I'll be barring voda real soon.

Bullshit the 1st tour I did I had no coverage from Roma to Mount Isa 1400kms of no coverage along one of australias main highways and telstra has coverage all through there. I paid it out and got a teltra phone. After this expeince I will neve use them again as im sure theyve lost alot of customers the same way. The latest annoyance is people i message getting the text around 8 time (at a charge to me) or getting my texts the nexts day !! Too bad if your trying to organise something. People try to call and get my voicelail even if im in service. I have had better coverage in 3rd world countries !! What about today ... I called my sister who is with vodafone also. We call each other to use our vodafone to vodafone credit.. You think your getting free minutes but they charge of your main balance ?? What ... you ring them to complain and they cant see how it happened and most of the time they dont understand what im saying... Pathetic Vodafone ! What a disgrace. I signed up to a $115/month unlimited txt/mms/calls to anybody plan in October 09 and it was okay at first. I live in the Sunshine Coast hinterland and figured bad reception was just part and parcel of living in a semi-remote area. At first I got reception out the front of my house and on windowsills in certain rooms, but eventually the reception diminished all together. I didn't even get reception out the front of my house anymore and had to drive 2km up the road for the phone to get one bar of reception and no 3G service. I was now paying $125 a month (stupid phone insurance) for a phone that I could barely use. I wasn't even getting reception in Maroochydore (central Sunshine Coast) anymore. I thought something was wrong with my phone, so I took it into a couple of phone shops and they told me absolutely nothing was wrong with it. I called up Vodafone to complain FIVE times and was told the first 3 times that they would call me back within 2-5 days. They never did. I got more infuriated with each call and eventually the Indian on the other end told me that I could have my plan cut off and I just had to send my phone back to them. I missed out on countless shifts at work, phone calls and text messages from friends due to Vodafones beyond shitty service. I'm now with Telstra and I get reception EVERYWHERE in my house. Not just on windowsills and outside. I get full service outside. I now realise that I shouldn't have put up with Vodafones shitty service for as long as I did!!!

I will constantly have to walk to the top of my street to receive texts which is extremely inconvenient. This has bin an ongoing problem from the first week i got my new mobile. If this continues it will just build up stress in a world where there is to much already. They need to make a change soon.

Hi i live at Marsden Brisbane and have had 4 months of terrible service from vodafone.

Everywhere i go the phone disconnects and drops out whilst speaking to people. As a business person this is not good.

Is there any chance of getting help. My whole family are on vodafone and it looks like no way out of our contracts, we only want good service.

Thanks
Rolf

27 Dec 2010 04:14:08 PM: You've got a long road in front of you! The first step is to start documenting every problem that occurs (time, place etc.). Ring Vodafail and start going through the trouble shooting process - they will first blame your phone and do a whole lot of things to try trouble shooting this. This won't be the issue, and next you will be asked to provide details about the issues (tim, place etc.) - they will waste months stuffing around with this. Vodafail are trying to make it hard for you and want you to quit and put up with the crap service (putting you in hold for hours is also another method to keep you on the contract). I did't quit and after 3 months got out of the contract. Also try the TO, just start documenting all the issues. Good luck!

3285 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is BULL SHIT at 27 Dec 2010 03:50:29 PM
I have upgraded from an Iphone to a Sumsung Galaxy, I agreed to continue paying off the Iphone MONTHLY as well as the Galaxy, I am fine with this it's what I agreed to. I recieved my bill and it showed I owed on the 14th of December for $1,200 since then I have been contacting Vodafone to get the matter sorted but I either have to wait 40 minutes until someone answers or over an hour before they call back. when I spoke to Vodafone about their mistake they claimed I agreed to pay out the Iphone for $1000 this is not true, I advised them to check their phone recordings which they claim they don't always record their calls. I advised them to call during my lunch break,,,they failed they called me while I was working...I advised them to call me back the next day as I was on holidays telling me they sorted the problem,. They still haven't. When they did call me back, they transfered me through to another department so I could speak to someone else, but I was on hold for 6 minutes. I still have not had the problem sorted out and it is the 27th of December...

3283 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is by saying that you can get 3G network coverage and charging for same at 27 Dec 2010 03:50:11 PM
As I didnt have a permanent residence at the time I signed up for a 12 month contract with vodafone on the condition that I would be able to link up with Wireless Vodafone 3g Broadband, every since I have been with Vodafone I have had problems with the 3G Wireless Broadband, when I tried to speak to someone in Charge and make a written or verbal complaint I was informed that there was no one that could take this complaint, so for the past 12 months I have been ringing the Vodafone faults line, with that wonderful voice Called LARA , Vodafone need to do something about this also.
Vodafone (INDIAN TECH"S) informed me after 11 months of problems with the 3G network that there was NO COVERAGE OF 3G IN MY AREA but they have taken 12 months contract payments , whick when I asked them about , their reply was, " TO BAD YOU SIGNED UP FOR A 12 MONTH CONTRACT, AND IT YOU WANT TO LEAVE BEFORE THE TIME IS UP THEN YOU HAVE TO PAY THE CONTRACT OUR, the balance of the monthly payments!!!!!!! What a wonderful company this Australian Vodafone is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live at Shorncliffe, northern suburb of Bisbane. Catch the train into city to work. I watch other train travellers having phone conversations but my Vodafail shows no signal for large sections of the 30 min journey. This has been the same every day for 18 months. My contract is up in 6 months and that's it for me.
