26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

I've been billed incorrectly (in my opinion) but every time I try to call Vodafone to go through my bill with them, I get cut off! This is absolutely infuriating as each time I've waited before getting cut off is approximately 20-30 minutes! When I tried the 'call back' option I thought that someone would be ready to speak to me when they rang me back - but no... I waited another 22 minutes only to be cut off again!!! How is this even allowed in this day and age????
4 Jan 2011 10:43:27 PM: thats right in your opinion. which is more than likely wrong likew the rest of the whinging fucks on here
5 Jan 2011 02:28:46 AM: Why would you bother even dribbling this sort of garbage in here? You do understand the website you are looking at and reading and replying to is a complaint site for vodafone customers yeah??

10373 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is not very at 4 Jan 2011 04:21:35 PM
Ok first let me say this:

I am a vodafone Customer AND Employee (no - not one of the ones that can fix ur issues or give u discounts) Im not trying to pretend that vodafone has the best reception but god damn its cheap!! You want the best reception? go to telstra and pay $149 a month for what vodafone will include for $79. How come all these complaints only started on that saturday when the phones dropped off. If service is as bad as you all say it is why not complain earlier? Why not try to exit the contract within the first month? Im quite confident in saying that 90% of these complaints are just people trying to get out of thier contracts and get a new phone because they heard it was possible.

Flame me if you want but someone needed to say it.
4 Jan 2011 04:29:21 PM: If you are right, I am in the 10%
4 Jan 2011 04:30:31 PM: I've been with Vodafone for 10 yrs and (apart from its ridiculously slow website and a few bill issues) I have been happy - UNTIL - the last 3 months. Excessive amounts of texts are not being received (but charged) and excessive amounts of texts I send are not being received or being received a day later (and being charged). On top of this - bad reception, calls drop out and even up to a year ago it would distort my voice - like some sort of robot then cut the call off.

I am *NOT* trying to get a new phone out of this - I am merely highlighting and unacceptable issue I've experienced for 3 months now - my contract ends in 8 weeks anyway and I plan to go to Telstra - where yes I will get a new phone - and one that I can actually use!
4 Jan 2011 04:32:24 PM: No need to flame you, as everyone is entitled to an opinion. I personally disagree with you as these people could have easily got out of their contracts before this site existed using the TIO. The only thing this site has done is how other Vodafone users they are not alone in experiencing no coverage, dropped calls, sms/mms arriving hours to days later etc.
4 Jan 2011 04:33:10 PM: *show not how (my bad) :)
4 Jan 2011 04:56:14 PM: OP: Fairly sure others have said what you said, including an article in October with Vodafone suggesting something similar: http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/business/vodafone-says-customers-tried-to-whinge-their-way-to-free-iphone-4/story-e6frez7r-1225932587861

What you are saying (and representing yourself as an employee) does not help the situation, but rather shows the chronic 'blame the customer' mentality that has got Vodafone in this mess in the first place. It is true that some people may be using this opportunity to falsely get out of their contracts - but I think many, if not vast majority do have legitimate concerns - ie. experiencing unreliable service.

Which 'that saturday' are you referring to? This website is was started by someone who was a new customer to Voda and experienced issues from the start and complained from the start. This was November through to early December. By the time he made the website, he'd already been put through the ringer by Vodafone 'Customer Care', they blamed his phone, his sim, even blamed him for trying to contact them.

Those others who had been with Vodafone for a long time had no cause to complain until the recent months (throughout 2010 especially later in the year) of deteriorating network service which your company tried to cover up.

No one here is suggesting Vodafone was always this bad - it wans't, which is why it is EXTRA disappointing for the long-time users of Vodafone as they feel betrayed by a company they had supported for so long.
4 Jan 2011 04:58:01 PM: I am not trying to say that SOME customers are experiencing issues. And yeah the hold times are shocking but i dont think anyone could handle the abnormaly high call volumes. All I am trying to say is that ALOT of people are taking advantige of this situation.
4 Jan 2011 04:58:39 PM: customers ARENT*
4 Jan 2011 05:03:55 PM: "Go to Telstra if you want the best reception"? what kind of idiot comment is that from a Vodaphone employee?

You cant justify not giving someone a service they have paid for just because its cheaper? that's moronic talk if i have ever heard it.

I can see why you work at Vodaphone.

Try calling Vodaphone to complain, you will have to wait in line for hours and probably have to call back repeatedly and tell different people the same information over and over because the goddamn phones drop out.

The way i see it is like this:

If i buy a phone with intention of actually using for what it supposed to be used for and it only works half the time, well i would call that broken.

regardless of the price its broken.
So in my view someone needs to fix it.

4 Jan 2011 05:05:20 PM: Why would customers want to leave a network with a free or discounted phone only to go to a more expensive network?

It has been pointed out time and time again that Vodafone gives customers the best bang for their buck, but since they are not providing that service with no coverage, sms/mms arriving hours to days later, and continual dropped calls, that is why customers want to leave.

It makes no logical sense at all that they would leave for a free or discounted phone as the monthly fees at other providers is way more than Vodafone.
4 Jan 2011 05:08:39 PM: Even if a lot of people are take advantage, Vodafone have only themselves to blame for allowing the situation to get to this point so that there IS something to be taken advantage of.

It's not your fault at all, but I do believe senior management made a big mistake when they decided not to communicate their network update and related outages to customers OR Voda staff..and as a result, staff unknowingly lied to customers. Also, I'm sure a multi-million..neigh, multi-BILLION dollar company, after going cheap and hiring off-shore call centres can afford to hire a few more and deal with this situation more appropriately from now on.
4 Jan 2011 05:11:30 PM: sorry mate you know how many customers have got out of their contracts only to resign with a new phone on voda? these are the customers I am pissed off at.
4 Jan 2011 05:36:08 PM: In your mind I am probably the 10%. I Thought due to the fact I signed a contract that I HAD to put up with the lousy coverage. I live in downtown Coolangatta and my mobile internet only gets the "Edge" Or "HUSPA" connection which = One page every 10 mins. The genius who created this site has made myself and many others aware that Vodafone is NOT providing the service of which I signed into, in which case, we would be crazy to suffer on paying for a service that barely exists.

As for the comparisin in networks and vodafone being "cheap"......Perhaps You havent done your research of other companies. Virgin's rates are extremely comparible and they offer fantastic customer service, along with COVERAGE - as I sit here HAVING to use my partners "Virgin" mobile internet as my vodafone does not work at home!

4 Jan 2011 05:41:27 PM: i dont want a new phone, im quite happy with my old one, i just want RECEPTION so i can make phone calls on it!!
Yeah its cheap, thats why i was sucked into signing a contract, but ever since i have i have had constant problems, with overcharging me on bills, cant use internet, cant get reception most of the time, get lots of voicemails when my phone never rang. now i realise its cheap coz its crap. how do they get off charging people $79 for NOTHING
4 Jan 2011 11:52:14 PM: i got out of my first contract and signed up again cause the customer care people told me there was "nothing wrong with reception" and it might be my phone etc...

now have new phone and still the same problems. Are you going to say that i have just "jumped on the hate Vodafone bandwagon"?
5 Jan 2011 01:26:13 PM: Im not trying to pretend that vodafone has the best reception but god damn its cheap!!

haha cheap? seriously? I really don't think that being charged over $180 a month for a phone I cant even use cos of the shit reception is cheap!!
6 Jan 2011 01:13:21 PM: Your statements are ludicrous!!! People are not making this up! I had suffered in silence thinking it was my phone not the network... I have had more than one occasion when I hve had no service and my husband has not been able to contact me and has been worried! I have a baby... it happened yesterday... I had no service for 6 hours but yet I am paying for that! Vodafone is not cheap as you state! I have been with Vodafone for 12 years and stuck with them without comparison as they used to offer loyalty discounts etc... that dies off quite a few years ago and it appears you get better deals prepaid now! So after 12 years I am changing tomorrow... I will not have my baby and I put at risk due to no service!

10371 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is EPIC FAIL! at 4 Jan 2011 04:14:33 PM
i switched from telstra to vodafone about 6 months ago and have regreted it every day. I may have a full bar of reception and be on a phone call with someone on a land line but half way though our conversation it drops out. This happenes at least twice a day. It ends up costing me because i need to call back when every this happens. I to have contacted vodafone several times, once i was onhold for an hour, and nothing has worked. I get the same notification saying that my network has been lost and i have to search for this which takes time. Its extremly frusting as my job requires me to be contactable. People have complained about trying to call me and apparently my phone is off when i know for a fact hat it has been on! As soon as my contract is up, i am changing from vodafone and i am never coming back!!!!
4 Jan 2011 04:38:47 PM: Check out the 'How To Complain' tab at the top of the page, take it to the TIO and let us know how you get on!! The TIO should be able to help you out of your contract, then you can use your iPhone 4 on a decent network.

10368 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Painfully annoying!!! at 4 Jan 2011 04:02:02 PM
Several times a day i go without service! i always get a notification on my phone saying 'network lost' and then i have to spend around 5 mins each time searching for my network. As im doing this i go without receptions. Sometimes i will look at my phone for the time or something and i will have no service! ive contacted vodafone so many times and i always end up being on hold for 30 mins or so and to make it worse, most of the time, my service drops out half way through the conversation. They never call me back and then i just have to waste another half an hour of my work time on hold to vodafone!

Saturday the 11th of December when I had no service at all for a few hours, were they gave us free calls as an apology.

10357 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is pissed off at 4 Jan 2011 03:25:31 PM
Firstly they tired to over charge me on the first bill, then there was Saturday the 11th of December when I had no service at all for a few hours, were they gave us free calls as an apology. The next bill I received was due a week earlier then the previous one (I don't see how it can't be set up in the system to be due same date) and when I called Vodafone I got no help at all. I received message from Christmas Day 4 days later, when I send a picture message my friends seem to receive it a numerous amount of times. Last night when catching up with a friend, I suddenly find myself with no service at all (and I was at carousel shopping centre, not like I was out bush), I had nothing for over half an hour (which my friend thought I was standing them up), then for the next 4 hours it kept dropping in and out. I had no problems when I was with 3 and the only reason I joined Vodafone was because it was the last I-Phone 4 they had in stock and since the companies were joining I thought I would have the same great service, how very wrong I was.
6 Jan 2011 01:17:37 PM: I too was at Carousel and in exactly the same boat... it took me nearly an hour to find a public phone because no one would let me use their phone and I had a baby... and no one could tell me where the public phone was... the guy in All Phones can get stuffed because he actually just made up where the phone was!!! I am lucky as I am out of contract and am moving tomorrow!

10349 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is extremely at 4 Jan 2011 03:10:24 PM
I live in the outer part of the Perth Metro (no more then 30 minutes from the CBD and according to vodafone its a covered area) and for the last few months i'm lucky to get reception; it drops out all the time. I can be sitting in my room and at one end of my bed get perfect reception and then move to the other end of my bed (so no more then a 1 meter away) and lose reception! Same thing happens at my work as well and if I want to use contact in the swan valley/the vines area I have to borrow a friends phone cause these area don't have reception even though they as well are "covered coverage" areas!
Then again it doesn't matter where I am, I can be in subi and i'll have no reception, while my friend who has the exact same phone but with a different carrier has perfect reception, so I know its not a phone problem, its Vodafone!
So glad that my plan runs out in a few months time, already found the company and plan that i'm changing to and going to complain like mad to vodafone to be let out of the contract early and for free!

Changed from 3 to Vodafone a month ago so as to get an iphone 4 and have had absolutely no problems at all it has been fantastic. No dropped calls, no missed txt msgs, excellent reception and download speeds, immediate reply from txts sent locally and to family in Europe and the UAE. Spoke to the customer service section once as the guy at the store entered my email address incorrectly in my account details and they were friendly, helpful and efficient. Seems very strange after reading all the problems others seem to be having. Feeling quite put out that my experience has been excellent!

i live in Thornlie, WA. Approx 18kms from the CBD. i have one spot on my property where i can go to and make and recieve calls on my mobile phone. Even in this one spot my phone still gets cut off, or it does not connect or reception just drops out for not reason at all. I only have one bar out of 5 for reception, i could understand if i was living in Dalwallinu (250kms north of Perth) but not when i live in a capital city. We go to Mandurah about once a month to visit my wife's parents, who live in Dawesville, again little to no reception there either. Bad, bad, bad, and very frustrating.

I use my Vodafone mobile for business and my calls drop out constantly. I am forced to travel into the office more often so that I can use a landline. I do not live outback, merely 15 mins from the city and yet I often get no signal. It also cuts out in the middle of Perth CBD which is unacceptable. When I spoke to Vodafone they told me it was my handset (iPhone 3GS) and not the signal and to send it to the repair centre, but there was no replacement offered! I cannot afford to give up my phone as I use it for email on the go, so I just have to suffer. I will be contacting Vodafone to attempt to cancel my contract which has 10 months remaining and move to Telstra.

10272 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Complete at 4 Jan 2011 11:15:36 AM
I live in Dunsborough in the South West of Western Australia in a holiday town that can get an influx of 10000+ people per year. Over the past 3 weeks I have had phone conversations drop up to 4 times per call, people tell me that they have sent me SMSs which I have never received and that sometimes my phone is completely unreachable. All the while I am 1km from one of the most popular holiday destinations in the state.

I hate to think of the work and social opportunities I am missing due to Vodafone's inability to consistently provide the basic service expected of a mobile phone company. Frankly it is unacceptable.
4 Jan 2011 11:28:19 AM: If possible can you use the 'Your Coverage' tab at the top of the page, it will help others if we can provide hard evidence to Vodafone about their lack of network coverage.

My phone has always randomly dropped out and not go txts but until recently I always thought it was the other persons phone. A few weeks ago I was having all sorts of problems, so thought it was my phone. Changed phone same dramas. Connection error, no service, all really good when your trying to talk to clients, organise subbies and do break downs!! This was in WA, now Im on holidays in Sydney and its happening over here. I couldnt even ring 1555 or 121. So I get on a land line to call them. I use the call back feature and am surprised that I got the call back so soon(2 hrs). The guy was friendly enough, but had no idea what he was talking about. Then said he would put me through to technical. The waiting game began. Hung up after 30 min then tired to call back but didnt get the call back option. So back to square one. WHO the fuck in Vodafone and who can help me?? I want out. Im going to a dealer tomorrow to cancel my contract!

- call failure, calls dropping out
- text messages delayed by a day
- internet slow & unavailable "cellular data network not found ..."
- apology text messages from Vodafone at 4am my time!!
- 107.36 min phonecall (from a landline) to Vodafone trying to find out what i can do/resolve the issue
- couldn't find my street address in the system (spelt it for the 4th time & then asked where the guy was based ..... BOMBAY of course)
- put thru to BILLING, then GENERAL, then TECHNICAL - no issues in my area, apparently my "sim card" might need replacing .....
- they're going to "escalate" the issue for me - tomorrow - because the development system they use to do this is down
- going to call me at 10am tomorrow to confirm a reference for the "escalation" ....... i asked them to take into account i was on the west coast & not to call/message me in the middle of the night
- basically i'm not stoked on being charged for something i'm not receiving & am going to do what i need to get out of Vodafone
- unfortunate because i'm not a fan of the other providers but Vodafone are not leaving me with any other option

Reception in my area is very good when I first joined vodafone, I was with them for years before up untill it went wrong. However in the past 2-3 months reception just dropped, I can send messages, but my daughter, who is also on vodafone can't receive them unless she turns off the phone and turns it back on again. my phone has access to the internet but I don't get any reception, not a thing. Stupid vodafone. And even for bad service, i still have to pay a sky high bill, and I barely even use my phone.
2 Jan 2011 02:01:21 PM: heaps of people are commenting on the fact that problems either started or got worse over last 2 or 3 months, lets just hope impending class action may be enough to get them to adress the problems. but lets face it Telstra have the lions share therefore biggest bullies, Optus second biggest bullies although definitely still bullies, and vodafone try but lately they stuffed things up
2 Jan 2011 02:08:25 PM: My choice in mobile networks is not made up by which company has the biggest bullies, it is made by deciding who has the best coverage and performance. With that in mind, Telstra's NextG network wins hands down, followed by Optus, and lastly Vodafone/3.
2 Jan 2011 09:40:11 PM: are you thick? Telstra has the lions share i.e best coverage, followed by optus then voda...
Hey numbnuts, the fact telstra have the best coverage is the reason they get away with being bullies, optusnext best coverage, next biggest bullies

9897 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Totally dismal at 2 Jan 2011 09:15:01 AM
The reception in my area wasn't good, but the real killer was the utter incompetence of the so called "help" system. Something that should have been a simple online task taking less than a minute took an entire month to achieve. The appalling LARA was the the most frustrating, insulting and inefficient piece of rubbish ever devised, and nothing that I was told, either by the call centre or by email ever happened within the promised time, if at all. I'm still waiting (you get a lot of practice at waiting with Vodafone...) for confirmation that they have finally cancelled what they laughingly call a "service". It's now a week since they told me it would take "between 45 minutes and 5 hours". NOTHING ever worked reliably with Vodafone - neither their reception, the website, the email help nor the call centre. A truly abysmal company all round, made worse by crass PR attempts to insist that customers aren't now being subjected to long waits.

Was at Karratha, WA a couple of weeks ago and was dropped off numerous times every day during calls to loved ones back in Perth and Melbourne. Couldnt even make calls in most cases. I think it is shocking that a company as big as this making billions of dollars cant get the only service they provide right. THey have been in this business long enough to know how to get it right. Any excuse that they have aint good enough. Just get it right. I pay $79.95 per month for a service that I aint getting!

I am pretty much over the fact that my calls are cutting out, having no reception too much, the internet not working too well and the voicemails coming through hours or days after they were left... and to top it off, when i call Vodafail there is a 45min wait... umm hell no, just makes me more aggitated... i feel sorry for those who have to work in the call centre! I just dont bother to wait that 45mins because its not fair if i were to take my frustration out on them! Boy this network is frustrating!
2 Jan 2011 04:52:38 AM: No need to get frustrated, just take sim out, wait a couple of mins and put it back in, this fixes a multitude of problems.
Thats what I have been told that many times, I almost believe it!!
2 Jan 2011 07:08:28 AM: Try doing the exit SIM thing at Karratha.........it just dont work. Also, this is a multibillion dollar giant. Imagine if you had to fiddle with your light switches 4 times before the light comes on, or if in the middle of readying, your light just goes out. Would this be acceptable? I would not give them an ounce of breathing space. they have been in the game long enough. Period!

Every call i make or receive either drops out or experiences some issues. Some attemps to call i make dont even go through. I regularly lose reception when a couple of km's from the perth CBD.

I do not receive a reasonable proportion of sms's until a few days later. mms's substantially longer.

I use the internet tethering on my iphone for my home internet use. Currently the broadband works a max 10% of the time. and when it does it cuts out every minute or so and is terribly slow. The 2g internet is fine but thats not what i pay for.

I live less than 4km's from Perth CBD. There is a tower approx 1km on a massive hill from me. I can see it if i went out the front of my house. and no f*cken reception?

The fact we are all paying for their services and the fact they are not delivering their services as outlined in the contract is a joke. I want out of vodafone asap.

I wouldnt expect to keep my job if i only worked less than 10% of the time. so why should vodafone be different? As such, i will not pay them when they are not doing their job.

BTW customer service was a joke. waited 2 hours for the call back (although i must admit the call back idea is a good one - not sure if this is a common thing its just the first time ive experienced it). in the end all i got told was reset the phone - which made no difference.

So i currently write this using crappy 2g speeds. takes several minutes for a page to load. seems slower than i remember the old 56kb modems on dial up connection used to be.

We signed a contract stating we will pay $XXX for them providing YYY. If they dont provide YYY thats a breach of the contact. they dont care about that but. I garantee as soon as we stop paying $XXX theyll be chasing us for every cent!
2 Jan 2011 07:10:32 AM: RIght on the money. these guys are taking us all for a ride.......then have the gaul to throw million dollar XMAS parties where they all pat themselves on the back for another year well done! After my new handset valued at $550 was replaced three (3) times because it was faulty and after 3 months, trying to communicate with vodafone, I was given a replacement phone valued at $100 and im still paying $60 a month. I was advised that the replacement phone had to same features but has nothing compared to the phone I signed my contract with. 1 year into my contact and am still fighting with voadfone about my phone, their service and reception problems.

Rubbish reception

Call drop outs

I've been trying to call through and opted for a call back, half an hour later when I got the call back was put in hold for over half an hour and then hung up. Called back, stayed on hold for 30 minutes when I spoke to someone he admitted Vodafone were having network issues but could offer me no solution. He wanted to put me through to the technical dept and when I said I didn't want to be placed on hold he couldn't tell me how long the wait was. I asked to speak to his supervisor and without a response from him I have been placed on hold.

I had no problems, it worked everywhere I needed it to up until about a month ago. Call drop-outs, no reception at my partners house who lives about 5 km away from me (I live about 15 minutes from the heart of Perth) I had reception there fine with 3 and for the first month with vodafone, there slow ping speed and finally random network drop-outs ranging from a few seconds to a few hours. My wife and I are with Vodafone for the last year, and we have another year to go. Today things got really terrible, when we are at the same shopping centre, and we both could not call each other! Not only that, both our internet connections are out. A bit much for coincidence for 2 phones. Went home and checked VF website...no outages in WA. Where the hell were we then? My wife went into a VF shop in Carousel with her iPhone, and they offered to switch her phone to 2G. I am glad she did not go along with that, as we paid for 3G, not 2G. I can understand 2G being used outside the metro area, but 8km from the CBD; you've got to be kidding! And let's not forget the phone lines are dead. Will be calling VF first thing tomorrow morning. Don't care if I get India or moon. I'm sick of being with VF, and can't wait to dump them.
31 Dec 2010 07:54:58 PM: Shopping centres can be strange places, when my wife and I were in a particular shoping centre in Melbourne and one of us was in one of the three supermarkets we could never cantact each other. Could never work out why but everytime one of us was in this supermarket they could not be called. We were not with Voda but another network in the end I assumed the equipment in the supermarket was causing intereference to the network. Not saying this happened in your case but it looks strangely familar.
31 Dec 2010 08:11:38 PM: giant metal and concrete cages are not good for phone coverage. some shopping centres and buildings have cell towers concealed inside to improve coverage but rarely for more than 1 or 2 of the carriers at any given location.
1 Jan 2011 11:13:17 AM: It is funny but we were in the same boat Thursday night (30.12.2010). Bloody Carousel is the biggest mall in town and it is impossible to find anybody. We were searching for about two hours before finally VF came back for about 2 minutes. My wife was scared that she may not be able to find me, about 9 pm without any money. Both myself and my wife joined VF a couple of months ago and I am amazed that by paying 120$ a month on my account for these two phones, we cannot even call each other. This is probably the 10th time "No Service" has happened to us. Let me know where you end up with VF; I may look into getting out of their network. I had problems when I joined VF (Nobody could call me; and it took them 4 weeks to resolve it - I was on the phone to India everyday for about 45 minutes) - I was even couple of times accused of lying by their customer service when they fixed the line so VF numbers could call me; but nobody else.
1 Jan 2011 07:25:40 PM: funny how so many people that are complaining are iPhone users - is it at all possible that the phone is the problem and not the network?
1 Jan 2011 08:22:20 PM: iphone users does seem to be the trend. i guess they moved on from apple "antennagate" to "vodafail"

Well, I switched to Vodafone from Optus at the beginning of December and I have to say it's like Night and Day. Vodafone 3G service is vastly superior to that of Optus. I've been with Optus for years and I experience all the problems people are complaining of on this site, but since changing to Vodafone a month ago - smooth sailing! 3G data works ALL the time EVERYWHERE and is always FAST! With Optus it fell back to 2G half of the time that it actually worked. I no longer get dropped calls and calls get placed first time every time.

Anyway just thought I'd pipe in, there are lots of haters, no one telling stories from the other side.

Don't know what the problem is you're all experiencing but I hope it's resolved soon.

So we signed up in Sept 2009 with new handsets for 2 years. now, 17 months later both our handsets are unusable. We have not damaged them or misused them. One, a Sony Ericson, will not charge and will not read the Sim 95% of the time or you could be in the middle of a call and it would cut you off with a sim read error. (tried new charger, new battery and new sim, vodafone sent it to be repaired and it came back stating there was no fault to repair)The second handset is an iPhone 3GS 32GB which has also had a new sim in a half hearted attempt to correct a connection issue. Incoming calls are usually fine but with over half of all outgoing calls my call "fails" mid conversation, sometimes i find myself calling people back 4 times just to finish my business with them. Vodafone claimed no fault in this connection issue and issued me a new sim. the phone was fine for about 3 days and then it started again. upon taking it back i was advised that i was out of my 12 month warranty.
I have yet to find a single Vodafone employee who is even vaguely familiar with the Trade Practices Act 1974 (to be renamed tomorrow as the Competition and Consumer Act 2010) and they are all baffled when i try to explain their liability for the faulty goods they have supplied me.
After refusal to repair my goods (we now refer to them as bads instead of goods) i called their retentions team to discuss my alternatives which i thought to be reasonable.

1. waive my cancellation fees and re contract both my plans with new handsets
-or-
2. Repair my phones.

Unfortunately the call centre staff who are clearly not in Australia have no concept of consumer law so they will not even discuss the repair option. They have offered a discount on my cancellation fees which is just not acceptable. I barely see why i should be forking out a few hundred dollars to fix their problem.
So today i call them back with my TIO reference number, (i requested a call back that was meant to be between 16 and 25 minutes wait, turned out to be 90 mins) they took my number, looked at my file and said i was lucky to have been offered a discount as I'm not entitled to one and there is nothing more they will do.

As this is an unresolved complaint with the TIO i will wait till the 29th of Jan and see if any more comes of it, as it has to be resolved by this time. If not we will be leaving vodafone in September when our contracts end. Taking with us collectively 8 parents, 4 grand parents, 7 brothers and sisters, 15 nieces and nephews, 2 children and as many friends as we can. Our family are all on vodafone because we are so when we move away they will all follow.

I barely think my request is unreasonable considering they are in breach of the Trade Practices Act. My husband and I are not in a position to just pop out and buy new phones but we shouldn't have to. This is one company that has really fallen over itself in recent times (pretty much since it conglomerated with 3 mobile)

With any luck someone from vodafone will see this and realise how petty this is on their part, without your customers you are nothing and if we have to leave vodafone we will be taking at least 36 other customers away.
31 Dec 2010 05:09:20 PM: @ 9261, Your contract signed only permitted repairs with the the year of the contract, any handset bought fromt the 1st of Jnauary 2010 onwards now carries a two year warranty, execpt any Iphone. You claim to be familar with the trade practices act yet not with your own contract you signed. Your fault take responsability instead of blaming others.
31 Dec 2010 05:16:27 PM: To the person that replied to this, no need to post it as a reply and as an original post ;)
31 Dec 2010 05:18:19 PM: the contract i signed gave me a voluntary warranty for a 12 month period however the trade practices act grants me a statutory warranty for a period of time that corresponds to the quality and price of the item purchased. Ergo for a mobile phone, for example, an iPhone, one could expect that it should last 2-3 years without fault. the law states that if infact an item is no longer covered by the voluntary warranty this in no way impacts on the consumers right to claim repairs, replacement or a refund on the statutory warranty. Any such wording in a contract that implies you waive any rights to a statutory warranty are unlawful and i really think it is you that needs to read up on your consumer rights information.
31 Dec 2010 05:29:50 PM: hhhmmm apparently hitting refresh will re post your last post...... sorry about that.
31 Dec 2010 05:33:17 PM: Not if someone comes along and mods it out >_>
31 Dec 2010 08:19:24 PM: lol who's being petty?

Would you take out a 24 month loan for a car and then when the car breaks down after 17 months complain that the bank won't waive the remaining repayments? Good luck
1 Jan 2011 06:48:36 AM:
1 Jan 2011 06:49:39 AM:
1 Jan 2011 07:29:04 PM: in the case of the "statutory warranty" shouldn't you be assaulting the manufacturer of the handset? just a thought
2 Jan 2011 12:06:02 AM: no irrespective of the manufacturer it is the sellers responsibility, its unlawful to require a customer to seek the manufacturer for warranty issues. and i really thing comparing a car to a mobile phone is a bit overkill. ive paid for these phones, im not asking for my money back im just asking vodafone to comply with australian consumer laws, nothing more. wow for a site thats meant to be about vodafone failing you all seem to be quite supportive of them.
18 Jan 2011 07:46:07 PM: actually you generally get the phones for free with most contracts, you generally only pay for your calls. also, it is the manufacturers fault. Vodafone hardly makes the phones now do they? therefore its not their product that is faulty! durrr.
18 Jan 2011 08:11:48 PM: Actually the phone is not for free, generally the handset repayment is built into the caps...so if you are on a cap plan generally about 20-40 per month is the handset repayment.

We have a business to run and it's just not good enough. 4 hours of no reception, delayed text messages by over 4 hours, inability to access "my vodafone" to pay them some money due to my pin not working despite being the same as on their system (and being re-done twice already), shitty reception and spend 10 mins trying to get to the right department only to be transferred to another dept.
They are quite happy to charge me a late payment fee but when I can't access my account to pay them, shouldn't they be paying me the fee? They gave me free calls on a Saturday for the 4 hours of non reception, but what about the other times they're not up to par?

Hey,

I am using Vodafone Iphone since last 2 months and from past few days call drops, no calls and slow internet data connections are becoming common in vodafone.

I am looking out for job and am expecting calls from employer on my vodafone number. But this mess doesn't allow me to receive any call thereby resulting in delay in job change.
I think I have done a big mistake getting vodafone connection unless vodafone suitably compensates for the same...

Just posting an apology on website doesn't serve any purpose. Vodafone needs to compensate all for loss of calls and data during past few days...

Its wait n watch situation for us.

In case vodafone doesnt do anything... i am sure i would not recommend vodafone to ne of my friend...

Lets wait n watch...

Unfortunately Vodafone has the government contract, which means government dept, hospitals and emergency services have to use Vodafone - unless they can put across a very good business case to get a Telstra phone! What makes it ridiculous is that I live in one of the newest, most technology savvy suburb in Perth, and I can't get coverage for my work mobile, which is supposed to get emergency and alarm messages sent to it via SMS - last week one took about 10 hours to be delivered!!

This is after I have gone through all the right processes to lodge a service request regarding poor coverage!

I have been using Vodafone for the past two and a half years. I selected them because I did not need remote coverage, and like the free mobile to mobile deals, bettered again this year with free v2v and v23. Most of my family are on it. I note long delays in SMS, particularly when the kids are supposed to let us know what they are doing, voice mail, some times a couple days late... And of course, I have miserable reception at home! But then 3 was bad, Optus no better. Telstra is the only network that is reliable. I have also noted that when in Sydney on business that I rarely get 3G so can't use Internet or tethering.

It took me five attempts this morning to make a phone call...
9.09am could not connect
9.10am 1 minute prior to drop out
9.12am 2 minutes prior to drop out
9.15am could not connect again....
9.15am finally got my phone call through but cut it short to aviod drop out. I had to go and stand in the middle of the sun in the middle of a park like a statue in order to prevent the phone call from dropping out.
31 Dec 2010 11:32:15 AM: My internet is also with vodafail until i can get through to them to let the dongle use another service provider....
also my sister and i are doctors, both with vodafail (for now), both have difficulties being contacted while we are on call..

I often recieve a txt telling me I have a txt (voicemail) even though my phone never rang. Why can I recieve a txt but not the initial call. Fallout is an all-too common experience. My partner's phone is the same. She will often not recieve txt's sent days before, even after turning the phone on and off. This is really disappointing as I would like to turn off vodafone permanently now. All in all, a poor performance that we pay for. And don't get me started on the pathetic web page that won't allow me to change my int roaming settings!!!!

9467 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is SMS failed, no support at 31 Dec 2010 09:25:13 AM
SMS' appeared to go but were never received, calls dropped out, callers reported that my phone was out of range (i was at their front door and my phone is never turned off), customer support rarely answered and when they did they never assisted.

Bought new phone (N8) to see if that helped...it didn't. Shop staff are ignorant of the problem and are unable to get any feedback from their own support group (i called continually for over three days). Sent email listing problems and received automated replies stating they hadn't heard from me so everything must be ok. I replied only to receive another automated reply so i replied to the replies etc.

Also cancelled modem due to lack of service coverage and recently changed phone service to Optus.

Once they have refunded my fees they can close up so no-one else gets burnt.,

No reception most of the time and when I do get reception it goes up to 1 or 2 bars but loses it just as quick. If I'm lucky in do called good reception areas it may go up to 3 bars, but loose connection as soon as I make a call. Have to go outside and stand in the street to talk and even to just send a sms. Can't send picture messages except when I'm in an area with very good reception which are not many in WA. I'm on a 2 year contract with 11 months to go. Can't use half the credit that I pay for because I almost never have reception. Internet on the phone is also almost non existent

Lucky me i chose the 20SIM only package, if i were on a plan contract, i will be pretty much screwed!! I have only been with vodafail for about a month changed from 3. Thought 3 was worse, but this is much worser!!

I am trying to change to iinet but having troubles syncing to iinet. It looks like vodafail trying to stop me moving!!!

Totally shit coverage anywhere! Tried to download a update for my IPhone let's me download a portion of it then I loose all signal! Get error 3150 the network connection could not be established! Didn't get the update but got charged for the download.
Just drove 50 kms to a high coverage area and tried again got nearly to end of download but vodafone disconnected me again , so no update yet charged again!
Really pissed off now can't get a update , check emails ( which I need for my business)
I'm on my mobile writing this cause that thank god isn't vodafone!
Spend hours and mega bucks in calls to them to speak to someone who I can't understand , to be told your in a black spot! Well is the whole of Perth a black spot? No vodafone just sucks!
Nothing resolved by ringing them except I'm left wishing I could reach through my mobile to strangle them!

The salesperson said that the reception in my area was great, however just about every single call either cuts out or the recpetion is so bad either the caller or myself cant understand what is being said. Iam so dissapointed and angry as its my only phone I do not have a landline and with 3 small children it worries me if anything is to happen and I have no reception to call for help. I have been getting the typical drop outs etc...

I have now been onto vodafone two days now just trying to get to a point to payout my contract

day one was 1 hour on hold then told i have to go via network troubleshooting team before they will negotiate the contract termination,

so I end up talking to the the network team where the guy's says my area has known issues. But i still have to go through all the trouble shooting steps

eg manually set network then master reset my phone (great fun).

so today I phoned them back to let them know how it is went. still no good

I didn't stay on hold I got them to phone back ( 2.5 hours later)

well now my issue is being escalated and someone will contact me in the next 72 hours

A lot of running around to end a contract on amicable terms

i'm in perth, i go to different suburbs north and south of the river, wherever my work takes me, i use data on my iphone quite a bit to check emails and even surf the web using tethering with my laptop. the data network is SLOW. VERY SLOW. on the iphone i have to keep refreshing the webpage in safari several times before it even gets anywhere close to loading the page. on my laptop things are a little better but still slow. i put up with it and never bothered to call up to complain because the call center is ATROCIOUS. in the few times i've had to call, it has been difficult to understand the operator and the wait times have not been short.

I had Voda phone in Merredin WA for a few years I could very rarely get service in our house & at times had to drive to a couple of spots in town where service was good to use the phone.

I complained a few times & was told it was due to work being done on their equipment, I have ditched them now & gone with Telstra.

They also managed to wrongly put a mark on my credit file with Veda, took me days to sort that out, which cost me in phone calls, time & grief as we were applying for finance.

No apogees & no compensation I will never again have anything to do with VodaPhone.
