26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

stuck in a contract with vodafone most areas i work in i get no coverage as of a few months ago, which leaves me unable to do my job, at times lose coverage for hours whilst in the middle of sydney (newtown)

27 Dec 2010 09:32:16 AM: Yes, I could not get coverage in Newtown either however Virgin works real good, still waiting on my complaint to the telecommunications ombudsman
27 Dec 2010 10:28:35 AM: Have you asked Virgin whose network they use? They don't have their own network, but buy air time from Telstra, Vodafone and Optus!!!
27 Dec 2010 10:30:42 AM: Virgin uses optus
27 Dec 2010 11:05:56 AM: Virgin is owned by Optus!

After complaining to Vodafone about a faulty handset, I received this email from the Vodafone correspondence team. Check out the attitude!

"Hi again xxxxxxx,

If any of the points in our correspondence have not made sense to you, please specify so I can try and paraphrase the common rationale that is being applied.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind regards,

1935 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is FAIL FAIL FAIL at 27 Dec 2010 11:10:22 AM
Not a vodafone customer, but a 3 customer (for the last 4 years). Since 3 joined forces with Vodafone, my reception has greatly decreased. As example, until recently I had perfect reception in Newman, WA. This year, shortly after the amalgamation of the two companies, I now have NO RECEPTION in Newman, WA, and limited reception in parts of Perth, WA.
27 Dec 2010 07:04:21 PM: you live in the middle of nowhere get a telstra phone and stop complaining about something thats easily fixed
1 Jan 2011 08:59:13 PM: Easily fixed? Turn it up,you reckon paying out a contract amounts to easily fixed????
5 Jan 2011 10:52:26 PM: HearHear!
%#*$ you, "27 DEC 2010" - Their coverage is sh!thouse, why should it cost us $2000 to drop a sh!t contract. That's not a solution, Dickbag.
10 Aug 2011 07:57:02 PM: Was it an amalgamation? Didn't 3 take over Vodaphone....so really it's 3 to blame

Good on ya vodafone from christmas eve i havent been able to use my phone (vodafone pre paid) i couldnt send any txt call etc really dissappointing ,worse thing my partner also has vodafone (iphone - contract) so we both couldnt call out or txt ?????? i could also repeat most of the complaints that have already been mentioned ! Not happy
27 Dec 2010 08:36:32 PM: The network is over sold. Now I'm sitting at home & upset with my boyfriend why he didn't ring me. Vodafone should pay back all the money to their customers for this December as no one can really call or the phone keep cut out!!!!! This is really so shame on them VODAFAIL.
28 Dec 2010 10:37:30 AM: Exactly the same problem here. Coming to realise that the Vodaphone network is absolute rubbish. Have only had major issues over last 1.5 months. Today, no network connectivity for 3 hours. Bizarre FULL bars on Nokia 6120 Classic phone but no ring tone, just comes up as "Network Busy" (when calling out), or "Not in service" when being called :( :( Nokia N95 on Telsta plan right next to it, no problem!

Not happy Jan!!!

4262 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Abysmal at 27 Dec 2010 05:43:03 PM
I am so glad I watched the news tonight and have seen your website! Thank you!

Their customer service is just disgraceful - I don't know how they are allowed to get away with it.
the below is a complaint letter that I sent to them a couple of month ago. No one responded to me. I am going down to vodafone tomorrow to get out of my contract if I can - I encourage everyone to do the same - having no customers is the only way to hurt these organsiations - vote with your feet!

27 Dec 2010 05:59:18 PM: Your letter looks close to the letter I wrote to them not that long ago. I'm still waiting for that call...All I have been getting is automated email replies
27 Dec 2010 11:36:07 PM: maybe you shouldn't be such a racist dickhead
29 Dec 2010 06:33:51 PM: LOl you idiot......Commonwealth Bank got the lowest score in customer service out of any of the major banks. Im not defending Vodafone nor am I trying to make Commonwealth Bank sound bad but seriously do some research before you make such stupid comments. P.S all you have to do is ask to cancel your contract, they will cancel it for you or come to a compromise. I was annoyed that I was paying $100 a month for shitty coverage and they cancelled my contract. Done happy :-) ......ohh and if you think that vodafone has tight ass CFO, you might want to google what commonwealth banks profits were last year. The board decides to cut costs to make money for share holders. Share holders at the end of the day want more profits so therefore favour cheaper decisions, the CFO is mearly a puppet in-between the public and its shareholders.........so who do we blame SHAREHOLDERS!!!! no further comment....

9 Jan 2011 04:29:17 PM: Hullo friend

very sorry to hear from your issues . For all the viewers , please understand vodafone is upgrading its towers and that is why is the reasons for all this . vodafone is trying to give its customers cheapest and best services to all . The main reason two company telstra and optus is jealsouy and cant win in business side , so they are tarnishing the image of vodafone.vodafone has invested 8billions for its towers and 8.3ghz frequency which is equal to telestra. People need to be patient . customer care in India is par excellence services . Indians are well educated and well mannered people .if aussies understand indian english then there is some problem in vocal bury and ausi phonics. Guys cant we just grow up?and let us stop being racist .and for all your worries on vodaofne , you will be definitely compensated .
31 Jan 2011 04:42:47 PM: Oh yeah and are you authorised by vodacrap to lie on their behalf, and mislead some people into believeing we will be compensated?
13 Feb 2011 11:47:48 PM: I fail to see how pointing out that the majority of us cannot understand Indian or Egyptian accents is racist.... its just the truth. We cant understand what they're saying. Who wouldn't rather have Australian operators where half the conversation isn't asking them to repeat what they just said 3 times?

Calls drop out all the time, the net is so very, very slow. My doctor's surgery got agro with me because I couldn't be contacted. I didn;t known they were trying to contact me.
I thought I was going mad, I thought it was just me until I found this site. Now I'm stuck in a plan. I feel overwhelmed by the size and power of this corporationy corporation.
Thank you vodafail.com for easing an element of the pain.
9 Jan 2011 10:12:19 PM: Contact the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman - the lack of service is a breach of contract. They are pretty helpful! Good luck!

I live in North Bondi, my phone constantly has call failed, poor reception and drop outs. I can't even make or receive calls in Bondi!!!!
I laughed at Vodafail site and thought what a great idea. I have been with "Vodafail" for years and the network has progressively become worse and worse.
The charges are enormous, we have near the most expensive networks in the world, massive call connection charge, where are the customer's rights?
From now on I will refer to this company as Vodafail until they fix their network.

7776 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Not Happy at 28 Dec 2010 09:13:40 PM
I had been a Vodafone pre-paid customer up until 4 months ago, when I decided to go on a contract with them for the new iPhone.
Up until recently, I always valued Vodafone as my provider. However in the process of changing over to contract I was confronted with the worst customer service I have ever recieved from any place I have ever been. I was promised delivery in 2 weeks, and after 4 weeks it still hadnt arrived. Each time I called (after 1 hour in a queue) I got the response that 'I would recieve mine in the next batch that was to come in stock.. I ended up asking to speak to a manger which in turn got my phone delievered within 2 days and also had a credit applied to my account for the delay.
Since being on contract, I have had poor reception in places where I used to have full reception, my voicemail messages are always delayed, and the internet connection is extremely slow.

Vodafone have excellent deals and all my friends and family are with them, so we take advantage of the free Vodafone to Vodafone talk. however if it was not for that, I would definitely have changed providers.

I expect to recieve what I pay for!

7909 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Great Service at 29 Dec 2010 12:50:31 AM
Im a happy Vodafone customer and they have helped me in solve all my issues. But what i don't understand is that when i first saw this website the dude that made this i think his name is Adam or whatever said

"In short I am a disgruntled Vodafone customer after using the service for less than 6 weeks. After my relentless attempts to contact Vodafone customer support to resolve my issues (the usual dropped calls, no reception, poor battery life and delayed voicemail messages) I have no choice but to create a website to express my dissatisfaction to the world"

I get how vodafone is responsible for dropped calls, no reception and delayed voicemail. But for someone of his intelligence and for a so called software developer i don't know how he can say poor battery life is a fault by vodafone. Does he mean that Vodafone sents out some signal to make the phone use more battery power? Poor battery life is caused by the manufacturer! As for the coverage map on this website, HAHAHAHAHA what a joke!! True the Vodafone coverage checker isn't the greatest but that doesn't mean the one on this is any better. Just now i was able to enter in several post codes and say the reception was 100% and 0 dropped calls. Oh and the message saying your ip is blocked for spamming purposes. Hahaha just takes 2min to get a new ip.

I just can't believe how stupid some people are. I was at a store today checking up my plan. Sadly the system was down. But it came to my surprise at how stupid some people in this country really are. I saw a stupid lady blaming the sales rep like it was her fault the systems were down and its people like her that are causing problems. Seriously to all the keyboard warriors that spend time on this stupid website complaining about their service, if you have the brains then instead of wasting time here just call the telco ombudsman. Heres the website even
Soo simple. But im sure people just want to sit here and continue complaining. So how about instead of sitting on this poorly made website, you get ur lazy ass to a land line phone, and call the telco ombudsman. Why dont you go on and join up with Telstra the number 1 telco provider in AUS??? You will see that their complaints line is longer than their service line and dont get surprised when they charge you thousands of dollars for their service.
29 Dec 2010 12:56:14 AM: You sound like a desperate captain going down with a sinking ship.
I admire your misguided loyalty.
29 Dec 2010 12:58:55 AM: Im a happy customer and i agree vodafone has and is still experiencing problems. But venting here isn't gonna solve it is it?? If people want a solution no point posting it up here. Its just like a blog page. Go to the website i posted to get something done about it instead of wasting your time here for nothing
29 Dec 2010 01:03:03 AM: Yet here you are posting :/ this site is about gaining a collective of people to show vodafone that customers are not willing to put up with the poor service they are providing. Sure people will still go through vodafone and the tio and even the lawsuit to gain compensation / be free of vodafone, but first it is about making the company and the wider Australian audience aware of the problem
29 Dec 2010 01:03:45 AM: This website has gained a huge amount of publicity on radio, television and print.
29 Dec 2010 01:05:26 AM: Gaining a collective of people to show customers?? HAHAHAHAHA good luck to that!
29 Dec 2010 01:08:05 AM: This website has had over 1.2 million hits in 12 days. Check any webtracker. I think it may be working.
29 Dec 2010 02:13:08 AM: ok so what is 1.2 million hits gonna do? Is it gonna magically make the reception better?? Is it gonna magically cancel your contract?? Is it gonna magically make me a millionaire?? Is it gonna magically make the battery life better on my handset?? Because according to the maker of this website, Vodafone is responsible for shitty battery life.
29 Dec 2010 03:24:26 AM: Errr Vodafone is responsible for replacing handsets with faults, that they provide with plans.
It took them almost 6 months to replace my sisters faulty iPhone! Which had a programming fault. And thats how long it was sitting in Vodafones incompetent hands for. Once Apple got it, it was a matter of days!
Just not good enough!
29 Dec 2010 03:54:11 PM: So it was Apple's fault to begin with correct??
29 Dec 2010 08:10:07 PM: vodafone staff are quote "not qualified" according to apple, to deem an iPhone 'faulty' so cram it up your arse before you go around making radical statements and blaming the wrong people
29 Dec 2010 09:06:14 PM: Ummm... Just so your aware, as it seems your not.. Poor battery life could mean a few things... Your phone is continually looking for reception from voda, therefore killing the battery life... it could also mean he waisted many hours away from a charger trying to get through to customer support... which will kill your battery life with lenghy hold times.. Not all of us can sit on hold at home or work for 2 Hours with the charger plugged in! Oh yeah, and voda are responsible for the handset you purchase off them!!
1 Jan 2011 12:04:26 PM: I also have had no problems with Vodafone, silly me just changed over to Telstra to go on one of those bundle plans. Man, bad move. Now that they have bad customer service being switch from one person to another with no good outcome. I went straight to the ombudsman and its all sorted. Maybe some of you VF customers should do this. Was a very simple process.
2 Jan 2011 05:46:46 AM: Hey numbnut, the site lets it be known that we as consumers have a voice (this country democracy) just cant believe how stupid you are. Amongst other things, lots of us are now aware that the problems are with the network. Dont you get it?? fone continually seaching uses more battery power.cant believe they let stupid people like you out of your country, maybe they try keep the intelligent people and let them make a meaningful contribution
2 Jan 2011 01:28:02 PM: Poor battery life can be attributed to poor network quality. When your phone is transmitting (ie. making calls, using internet, periodically checking in with the tower) it is sending signals to the mobile tower. If reception is poor, then signal quality is degraded to the point were communication between your phone and the tower is effected, your phone will compensate for this by increasing transmission power and thus draining batteries faster (conversely when signal quality is good your phone will reduce transmission power in order to conserve battery life).

A drop out occurs when your phone has maxed out its transmission power but still cannot maintain adequate signal to noise ratio with the tower. On a side note, the increased transmission power equates to an increase in the energy of the microwave radiation emitted from your phone antenna, most of which passes through your brain...
9 Jan 2011 09:36:39 AM: I have two identical phones however one is already with Telstra and the other still with vodafail (not for much longer). The phone with Telstra uses about 1/4 less battery power over the day. It will still have 1-2 bars of battery consistently at the end of each day. And they both do the same amount of work.
22 Jun 2011 12:01:22 AM: A phone that has to constantly search for a weak signal will experience reduced battery life as the voltage from the battery is used to amplify the receipt and transmission of radio signals. This is basic telecomunications physics.

29 Dec 2010 08:05:02 PM: apparently no one you racist bogan
5 Jan 2011 09:20:48 PM: well sometimes its from india and sometimes its local, both personally i found Indian service way better. they also give me call credit if thereare any complaints
5 Jan 2011 11:08:37 PM: I completely agree with the comment above, being annoyed that "Customer Service" is being handled by people who are not fluent in your language is NOT customer service. while the person above is emotive and angry he does'nt use racism. Racism would be saying "I this the Indian customer service team are a bunch of idiots". I bugs me how so many topics have become socially tabo under the "racism" flag.
6 Jan 2011 11:32:41 AM: getting ripped off with lousy service isnt anything to do with racism, having people ill equipped to perform a job with language issues is the most frustrating experience ever..Lets face it as Aussies we tend to call a spade a spade if we are unhappy we tend to voice it in the most basic and verbal manner. If that is racism you may want to look at your own interpretation of the politically correct handbook which coming from my experience is hell bent on pandering to those that believe it is possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
6 Jan 2011 02:58:00 PM: hahaha RACIST BOGAN
6 Jan 2011 04:05:38 PM: @6 Jan 2011 01:32:41 PM:I feel genuinely nauseated after reading you verbose reply- you "Aussie"- hardly "the most basic and verbal manner". In fact, it resembled basic slick PR Politician spin, with an ante-diluvian attitude and hidden agenda- so, wild guess, you're "underemployed" after we Aussies flushed away the Little Turd on November 24 2007?
Or overworked spamming for Voodoofone? You tell me, you "Aussie". BTW, most of us write it as WE say it- "Ozzie"
ref: "Ozzie ozzie ozzie oy oy oy" (May be somewhere in VF's cricket promo footage)
26 Apr 2011 08:16:43 PM: Aussie is correct I believe we are on a Website not a Cricket match. I also have an issue with understanding who I talk to when trying to make a complaint to Vodaphone. How can someone try to help you if they cannot understand you and you can't understand them !!!!!! This is not racism it is just FACT....

8389 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Doesn't fail too hard at 29 Dec 2010 12:49:48 PM
Look. I've been reading many of these complaints, and many people have simply ignore the complexity of the issues that they face. For example, handset problems:
-One person claimed that their handset broke and Vodafone refused to fix it. Now, the reason why was never made clear- but I believe that they may have had an iPhone. The iPhone, unlike every other handset that Vodafone stocks, is covered by only a 12 month warranty.
-Another person claimed that they got no signal with their iPhone 4 whenever they went to make a call. This is the iPhone's problem, again. Holding the iPhone 4 in your left hand kills the signal- and that's not Vodafone's fault.
Then, you have people who didn't actually troubleshoot:
-One person claimed that although they could see the Vodafone network with their mobile broadband device, they couldn't connect. I had the same issue- it turns out you must go into settings and pick "contract" or "prepaid" depending on the service you have.
-Another person claimed they were unable to send a text message or access the net with a nokia phone after getting a phone unlocked from another carrier. This may be because they didn't set up the short message service centre (SMSC), and they didn't set up the access point.
Also, I've noticed some racist comments being made about the service centre. Look, again, most telcos outsource- and frequently to India. They try their best I hope. Tell them that you know your rights, and if the coverage is not good in the location, and they troubleshoot and nothing works, ask to speak to a supervisor. You are allowed to by the rules to get a supervisor to speak to you if you ask 3 times. and they can break contract.
I hope this has helped. As for me, I love Vodafone. I have a Nokia N900, fine with mobile internet, but my mobile broadband sucked in terms of speed, so I asked, and they broke the contract, and sent back the modem.
Regard, Dr. B (a happy Vodafone customer)

5 Jan 2011 11:52:11 PM: How much are you paid by VF?

I tried to cancel my contract 20 days after making it due to False and Misleading conduct by the sales staff and issues with recieption. NO was the response over and over again for 4.5 months.

8711 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Mulitple Issues on $49 plan at 29 Dec 2010 07:22:54 PM
My vodafone contract was an absolute debacle. The phone kept breaking down (not their fault I guess), I had insurance on the phone so after about the 6th breakdown, i thought I would claim on the insurance to get a new phone. So I call to get the details, and was told that the excess on my insurance was going to cost me more than the cost to me to walk into a Vodafone shop and buy the phone outright that they were offering. I told them that it made no sense, to no avail, bad luck they say.

So after this, I realise it isn't worth paying the insurance ($10) per month. So I call the ever helpful Lara to say take off the insurance charge please. They say "no problem, done". The next couple of months my $49 plan starting charging me excess, so my bills started coming through @ $350 per month. I call Vodafone to say this is not right, I want my money back. They say no. I argue, and ask to be transferred to a manager, this billing is not correct. I finally am assured a refund as they say they accidently took off my data plan instead of my insurance. So with no data plan, my bills sky rocket. They say they will pay me back in installments, I say no, this is your fault, pay the money back. After 2.5 hours on the phone, they agree to repay me. Weeks pass, and no money comes back. I call again to ask where is my refund. The response "Finance has said no, your bank details are not correct". But wait, the bank details are the same as the ones you charge me every month for my plan. What is going on? "The refund has been rejected" they say. Why is that? So 2.5 hours later, I am explaining the problem over and over. They say again there will be no refund. But you said weeks ago they will be a refund. Arghhhhhhh !

So I go to a retail outlet. They look at the problem, and say they will contact head office on my behalf to rectify the problem. I was so happy finally for some customer service. The outlet calls a couple of days later, saying, no, they can't help. I must call Lara. I nearly cry.

I call Lara again and go through the process of being on the phone 2.5 hours. I talk explain from the start the issue, what the problem is. Then I talk to the manager and finally they agree to repay this over charging back. They offer to pay in installments, I say NOOOOOOOOOO, this is your mistake, pay me back the money please !!!!! And finally 2 months later, the over charging is repaid.

Next step, to get the insurance charge that they kept charging back. I call Lara, and get..... Vodafone Egypt, assisting Vodafone Australia. I explain the problem, and they say, OK, we understand, we will investigate and call you back............

AND I'M STILL WAITING......... MONTHS LATER. I can't go through the hardship of calling them again...............
29 Dec 2010 07:42:17 PM: Wow! How are you not in jail for murder? I feel for you!

10531 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Very at 5 Jan 2011 10:59:50 AM
I have had a mobile broadband USB device for over a year now and have experienced nothing but trouble since day dot. I have complained numerous times. Some days I cannot connect to the internet at all and other days if I get a connection, it will drop out constantly. When I first signed up with Vodafone I was assured a number of times that I was in a very good coverage area. I was extremly cautious before I signed up with the 24 month plan. I am so disapointed with the service that I have received from Vodafone. The hold times are crazy and when I actually get to speak to someone I am told they will call me back. Well guess what - I'm still waiting. All I ever wanted was to receive the service that I pay for yet Vodafone continue to direct debit from my account every month. My husband & I have both mobile phones with Vodafone and have been with them for years. As soon as my contract ends I will be changing suppliers. If I can get out of my contract for the broadband I will. I am sick of not receiving customer service that I am entitles to as a consumer. I have even failed a uni online test as my connection dropped out so many times, my test time ran out!!! Vodafone - let me go so I can get another internet connection that works - my future relies on this!!!

I have poor reception at home in a bayside melbourne suburb and no reception at work in the eastern suburbs. My internet connection always drops out or switches between networks so freezes the page. So I moved house a few k's away (not due to reception issues) and the reception is still no better. I have a few people tell me they've sent me text's or called and I have not got it. Or alternatively I miss a call and get a text saying I have 4 VM, where were the texts for the other 3??

Vodaphone is a scam, they don't care about the customers, they don't care about their service and they don't care when the phones they sell are shit!

I feel disgusted with such unfair fee and will move to another provider once my mobile services contract will expire next month.

Signed up to the Vodafone iPhone $29 CAP 24 month contract, at the time of signing up it came with 550MB of included data (50MB + 500MB bonus). Due to delivery delays we received the phone some weeks later, subsequently AFTER signing up to the contract, the $29 plan had its included data reduced to 200MB.

Despite joining before this plan change, we were only given 200MB!! Numerous calls explaining this is not what we purchased/signed up for were ignored. Eventually we had to engage the TIO to beat Vodafone with a stick to give us what we signed for.

Beware, Vodafone does not know how a contract works!

Yes the wait times can be long, but they have introduced the call back service where you can leave your contact number as opposed to sitting on the phone! The way I see it is, if you have an issue that needs resolving, practice patience and wait it out. Simple.

1363 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is worst. fail. ever. at 21 Dec 2010 04:26:38 PM
For so long I had blamed my phones for bad reception, no internet connection, voicemails that disappeared into the infinate nothingness despite friends INSISTING they'd left them... "This damn phone!" I'd yell in frustration! But after three phone changes in the past year - the problem remained.

Vodafone. You sneaky bugger.

Then in the last few weeks the problems became public ... despite the customer service people (bless their hearts) telling me to reset my phone .. we all now know it's the network's problems.

The other week - I had a car accident. Crying on the side of the road - it took numerous tries to call someone to sob on the phone to who could come help me - and it took numerous tries to call work to tell them I couldnt come in (and even when I got through the person on the other end sounded like a robot). Now I'm missing calls from the insurance company, the insurance assessor and the crash repairs. Even when I get through - the call inevitably drops out a couple of times.

Thanks Vodafone. So reliable. To think - the reason I signed with you all those years ago was because Kramer from Seinfeld was doing your ads. (Yes, THAT long ago) Kicking myself on that one.
21 Dec 2010 06:52:14 PM: They were some great ads.

I can tell you, its not just smart phone bandwidth hungry phones that are effected, for those who think its just iphone/HTC or whatever.

I have a plain Jane 3G phone, and mainly just use it for voice calls, the most basic of service, that requires the smallest amount of digital stream 9.6Kb or one voice channel to be exact, and I cannot even get that! garbled voice reception, dropped calls, No reception, always roaming, No timely SMS. When is the frustration going to stop!

The list is quite endless: i send and get charged for messages my recipients never receive; phone calls drop out mid call; sometimes when my phone says i have full coverage - and i can make outgoing calls myself - people calling me are told that i am out of range; i have not received messages that others have sent me... and, of course, coverage is in general miserable. I am only 20 kms from the Melbourne cbd and coverage here - despite what network maps illustrate - is generally of bad quality, and regularly disappears. The only reason i don't change is due to my partner and several friends also using vodafone, so the vodafone to vodafone minutes work for us... when there is coverage.

I live in Brisbane and I have an iPhone 3GS on a 24 month contract. I was told by the sales person at the Vodafone shop how good the phone would be and that I would be more than satisfied with the service they provided. Yes i was until i walked out of the shop and tried to use it.

I have had the phone for approx 7 months now and all through that time i have experienced poorer than average service. Phone calls dropping out. Slow loading web pages or not loading at all, Delayed SMS.

I was told by the sales rep when i bought the phone that it was not locked to the Vodafone network. Wrong. When i tried to test a Telstra prepaid simm in the phone i found out the truth. Once i managed to unlock the phone by paying the ripoff fee i found out for sure how bad Vodafone service was. Web pages loaded at waht i would call standard broadband speeds on the NextG network.

I have had occasion to call Vodafone customer care and waited for 1 hour 20 mins before i hung up.

Show me how to join this class action. I am in for sure.

My network fails more consistently than it works. I reset the network up to 3 times a day, otherwise the sms' don't go through and calls can't be made or received. When I called vodaphone they blamed it on the phone, so I sent the phone in for repairs. It took 2 weeks for them to look at my phone (which I paid for bc Im on a contract) and nothing was found to be wrong with the phone. It's vodaphone. Vodaphone's crap. I'd be better off using telepathy as that works more often than vodaphone.

Plus, add to this the standard Vodafone bullshit like having a different contract version on their site than they made me sign (the online one doesn't include their obligations to me) the one that I signed did. I understand why some companies think outsourcing their call centres to far off places might be a good financial move in the short term, but Vodafone and 3 have surely got to be losing customers due to their awful customer service centre.
I try to get a simple message through and they can't do anything about it because they can't understand your complaint without their scripts. So damn frustrating.
Offshoring is fine but offshore to people with some damn common sense and English ability!
5 Jan 2011 05:20:48 PM: optus off shore, telstra off shore
5 Jan 2011 06:08:20 PM: Optus offshore, parts of Telstra offshore, however in both cases, they crap all over Vodafones off shore staff :)
6 Jan 2011 02:22:48 PM: It's especially worse at the moment because Vodafone moved/opened a new call centre in Mumbai, as previously they were somewhere else in India not sure. After a year of drop outs, poor reception, useless data coverage I finally changed my telco.

Happy to pay the exit fee and final bill - IMPOSSIBLE!!!
The store can't cancel the contract - you have to call customer service.
45 minute wait on hold - I get told the contract was already canceled when my number was ported (apparently the store did not have this information), told to just wait for the bill.

Receive notice of bill in email, click on link to pay bill and I have to enter in the amount to pay - I have no idea, and I have been blocked from entering the myvodafone website now because I am with another carrier.

Call to find out how much to pay, wait for 10min on hold then use call back option (will be 30-40 min) - 2 days later no callback

I call again, this time 40min on hold - your bill is $89.83 I am told, now you can pay it.

I try to pay online and get a message telling me the information is wrong, you have to call 1555 - (now clearly this number is not the right one for me now) - another 40 min on a $1 a minute 1300 number coming up, awesome!!!

Can not wait to get a reminder notice and probably a late payment fee.

9 Jan 2011 05:56:19 PM: Can you provide the information or link to information confirming your assertions?
9 Jan 2011 05:57:43 PM: I know that when I have been in both Vodafone and Telstra they use the same system as a form of data entry
9 Jan 2011 06:04:00 PM: They use the same Siebel system, difference is they do use a web portal accessible from any internet connection, additionally they have individual log on's and I believe smart cards. Unlike vodafail who allow web portal access, and general passwords to be shared. Sigh at the Voda Employees trying to pass the buck for their companies mistakes.
9 Jan 2011 06:04:40 PM: 'dont use a web portal'
9 Jan 2011 06:05:43 PM: Do you have evidence to say passwords are shared?
9 Jan 2011 06:06:59 PM: Sure, read the replies from Vodafone Store managers on Whirlpool ( http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1614444&p=1 ) or read any of the numerous news articles that have already pointed it out.
9 Jan 2011 06:08:40 PM: There's more to this than the data entry. All is database. Security is the question.
9 Jan 2011 06:13:07 PM: There are also comments on there about telstra employees looking up people they know. Whats the diff?
9 Jan 2011 06:16:01 PM: Sigh, read the whole thread. That was posted by a Vodafone employee trying to pass the buck (just as this entire thread is). Sure Telstra employees can look information up, but as they have individual log in's, and as they have smart card access it is all traceable. Additionally that information cannot be accessed by Tesltra staff outside of their shop. Where as Vodafone employees have a web portal to access it from anywhere at anytime with general logins and passwords making it untraceable to one person.
9 Jan 2011 06:16:13 PM: two wrongs don't make a right but the Voda breach is massive and dangerous in the hands of criminals who have purchased the information
9 Jan 2011 06:17:41 PM: Two wrongs don't make a right? The only company that has made a wrong is Vodafone. Every other company that uses Siebel has it set up correctly and traceable.
9 Jan 2011 06:19:52 PM: that is true, but why is only vodafone under scrutiny for this?
9 Jan 2011 06:20:30 PM: do you work for every other company?
9 Jan 2011 06:23:58 PM: All will be scrutinised now!!!!
9 Jan 2011 06:24:31 PM: The reason Vodafone are under scruitiny, is because they allow web portal acces, because they allow generic log ins, because a non vodafone employee accessed the network yesterday and showed that anyone can access their network.

Do I work for every other company? No unlike others in this thread, I don't profess to work for every other company. However I do know enough about their security set ups with siebel to know they are not run like Vodafones (or is that Vodafaiiiiillllll)!
9 Jan 2011 06:26:55 PM: Either way, any company can fall subject to leaking of passwords
9 Jan 2011 06:29:41 PM: Yep and with Vodafone you can use that password anywhere you have a net connection. With other companies you would have to be in their store at their Terminals, or have a VPN with the correct 8 (or 9) digit code that changes everytime you access the network. ie, near impossible. You would have more chance of winning lotto :)
10 Jan 2011 11:50:35 AM: thats not true at all
12 Feb 2011 08:49:53 PM: Even a dumb ass like me can see that Vodafails system can be accessed anywhere in the world with the password which doesnt expire, and the person accessing the system can be untraceable. Telstra has a system that requires a password that is changing constantly and anyone accessing the system is traceable. So how on earth could some brainiac be defending vodacrap, by insistin telstra is as slack and as negligent and as irresponsible?

I have to turn my iPhone 3G on and off or switch on Airport mode then back off nearly everyday because the phone will show no signal/3G or EVEN WHEN IT DOES SHOW SIGNAL OR 3G calls wont go through or the internet will drop out. This has been going on for over a year. A lot of the times when friends are around I will compare my signal strength with their optus handsets while they get full reception and I have none. I am on the Northern Beaches of Sydney where millions of people live just north of the CBD, I'm not living in the middle of a mountain range in the middle of nowhere. This is unacceptable.

Also, whenever I try to view my usage online the website is never working.

I'm paying $79 a month + $10 insurance. Not happy.

My phone is with vodaphone, my husband's is with Telstra. Most of the time I have little to no service whilst he has full service with crystal clear reception.
My bill this past month was 5 times the usual amount purely because my calls keep getting dropped and I have to call the person back. Multiple times.
I have rung Vodaphone to have my phone unlocked so I can use as foreign sim whilst travelling; first they couldn't find my phone on their system (it IS a phone bought under a vodaphone contract - unfortunately), then they say it takes a week to unlock and incurs a charge.. Previous phones with Optus were able to be unlocked almost immediately with no charge. It has been a week and still not unlocked.

Grrrr....!!!!! I don't understand how Vodaphone aren't subject to any sort of regulatory or fair trading governance that can call them on their blatant theft and immoral business practices.
21 Jan 2011 03:57:43 PM: They do their best to stand over clients, by referring to various clauses in contract, e.g. dont gurantee continual coverage etc etc.
There is government legislation which overrides their one sided contracts, and the wording is something like.... "Goods must be fit for the purposes which they were sold for"

I was switching to vodaphone from three mobile. As I have a locked phone, I asked the agent (from offshore) if they can check first if they can unlock my phone as I got it from ebay. Agent said, "Sorry, you are not a vodaphone customer yet, call back when you are." I should have packed my bags then.

Took a week before they moved my account, and as expected, the vodaphone sim will not work on a 3 mobile.

Gave them a call, and for a week, they said, just wait, the vodaphone sim will eventually work. Of course it didn't.

They sent me a refurbished nokia x6 after another week, which would turn off at the slightest nudge.

Complaining again, an agent promised to credit me $$$ to buy a nokia x6, but as they are offshore, didn't know Vodaphone has pulled out the model in Melbourne (it took hours to get this concept through).

Good thing I wasnt able to buy as a week later, no money has been credited to my account yet. I called back and THEN they clarify, it will be used to offset my monthly bills, and not transferred to my bank account. (how could you then by a phone with it, then?)

Bargaining ensued. They offered to replace the phone with something like a Nokia 3210 (just those old old models), then switched tactics to a Galaxy... but only just remembered at the end of the conversation that they are putting me on a 2 year contract, offered a refurbished Blackberry but would not have a battery, or anything else for that matter.

Finally, they promised to send me a new smart phone... fingers crossed, they're not pulling my leg anymore.

29 Dec 2010 08:32:24 PM: It doesn't matter if VF can't put transmitters up. If they can't, fine: then they can't go and pretend they can offer great coverage to everyone who walks in a store.
29 Dec 2010 08:57:31 PM: Easy answer to that question- DON"T SELL PEOPLE THE PHONES IF U DONT HAVE THE TRANSMITTERS!!!its not rocket science

I paid for a 3G data plan via TransMobile which uses the Vodafone network. The data connection drops out frequently which makes it impossible to use without feeling frustrated all the time.
27 Dec 2010 09:20:48 PM: I can't even get reception inside my house, unless I'm outside. I live Northside, never figured there'd be a problem here!
27 Dec 2010 11:13:48 PM: I live southside, and I can't get reception in my house either. I use vodaphone, and my son uses Transact, and neither of them work.

3085 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Embarrassingly so at 27 Dec 2010 03:25:53 PM
I signed up to Vodafone because it used to be the least expensive and most widely used mobile service provider. Now, I experience dropped calls multiple times daily and strange intermittent network interruptions in areas wherein previously I had full coverage (full bars on my phone). I can stand still in one spot and watch the number of bars of reception rise and fall dramatically on my phone in areas where I'd never had a problem before. And such problems began for me right about the time that Vodafone merged with 3 Mobile. And what's most infuriating is that Vodafone's customer service is impossible to reach! The number of voice prompts one must go through on the automated system just to reach a real human is excessive, and even worse is the fact that wait times to speak with said human customer service agents have been up to 1.5 hours! I went to the Vodafone shop where I bought my phone and even the staff there told me "Mate, I once waited on hold for two hours when I had to call on the behalf of a customer." Now that's just embarrassing! Australia is a Developed Country so how can this be the case with one of its major mobile service providers?!

Before moving out to Kalgoorlie WA 4 months ago I specifically called Vodafone to make sure that I would have full coverage - they showed me the coverage map and said that I would absolutely have signal. Over the past 4 months I have had regular drop-outs and no signal. I've tried calling to complain, but they are no help what-so-ever!
29 Dec 2010 06:18:49 PM: Do you have a video phone? How can you call them and they show you the map??? huh??
29 Dec 2010 08:35:33 PM: "Do you have a video phone?" LOL... maybe you haven't heard of this new fangled thing called the "Internet" :)
2 Jan 2011 02:10:44 AM: SAME SITUATION WITH ME! I was having problems with a different company and was assured that i wouldnt have problems with vodafone ... urgh then you call to complain and get put on hold for hours only to get DISCONNECTED!

i've been with vodafone for 4 years and it's been a FAIL! from day one, don't know how i stayed with them for soo long! every device they sell is a sham and false advertising plus the people that you talk to when you have something wrong with your device cannot help you anyway beacause they either cannot help you themselves or cannot speak english!!!! like seriously give me a break! then i get a notification for supposedly not paying my bill which i just did the week before, receiving delayed text messages 2 hours later, and trying to call people with the phone replying "call failed" how can any of the vodafone customers justify paying phone bills when the reception is rubbish as wel as the customer service???????

I was actually a happy customer with 3 phone company, for about 3 years getting excellent coverage because they used telstra towers. In feburary I signed my daughter up on a plan . 3 never mentioned they where merging with VODA PHONE, once they merged with VODA PHONE ,It all started going down hill. 3 kept telling me it was going to get better this started in feburary,I made several attempts to speak to them and they kept giving me different excuses, then I foumd out they where with VODA PHONE which we could never get where I live hence why I went with 3.I rely on my phone to get my work and in the end was getting no work for months they cost me alot of money in missing work. It got to september and I was totally fed up so rang the telecomunications ombudsman and if it wasnt for them getting 3 to cancel my 2 contracts I had I dont know what I would have done. I feel for everyone out there that is having to put up with this crap. I am now with telstra and will never go back . 3 ruined it all by merging with VODA PHONE.phone companys need to be more honest and loyal to there customers.

Many phone calls later they said they would 'tweak' the tower N86 improved by 1 bar N95 no change, more calls followed and the outcome was the N95 was not compatable to our area (20 mins from freo) Swapped to a N96 and now can use it on the front lawn. Have to select GSM rather than use 3G for both phones to work....We want out now but end of CONtract August....Help!

5406 Someone from TAS thinks vodafone is Poor at 27 Dec 2010 09:58:46 PM
I have been with Vodafone for 4 years now and te only reason i stay is because of the cap plan and not changing my phone number. I cant make phone calls in the shopping centro's in Glenorchy, i try to send pictures and they turn up days later, i cant video call half the time to my parents ( it says it doesn't support it but then will work 10 mins later). I cant get proper reception at Brighton and i get NO reception in Collinsvale ( i use to get perfect reception). Hurry up March so i can find another plan!
27 Dec 2010 10:04:33 PM: Guess what? I had the same problem AT THEIR OWN SHOP IN SHOPPING CENTER IN EPPING, VICTORIA! I took the hand set to 3/Vodafone shop and show them, they thought I was joking until they saw it. Even the people could not believe it! The phone was turn off 3 time to reset and still could not find their network. This is really not good enough!
27 Dec 2010 10:07:22 PM: I tried changing my number - from plan to pre paid service within Vodafone. It took three months and I recieved a double bill the whole time. When someone finally took me seriously enough to refund my money they refunded it as credit on the canceled account and then charged me postage for the paper bill even though I had opted for paperless billing. It's easier to get a new number.

5710 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Completely unreliable at 28 Dec 2010 02:06:27 AM
For the past nine months it's been an absolutely appalling experience trying to use my phone. 75% of all calls drop out at some point, half of those drop out in the first 10 seconds. Internet is completely unreliable, taking over 3 minutes to load the vodafone homepage on my iphone is an ironic example. I have spent hours on hold trying to talk to vodafone about it, most occasions I don't get through at all. It has even dropped out when I'm speaking to a vodafone rep several times and they have never called me back.
I've lost thousands of dollars worth of potential income as a result, and have had enormous strain put on my relationship. I'll be seeking compensation for both loss of work, and mental damages.
5 Jan 2011 09:38:18 AM: You poor baby..
10 Jan 2011 07:10:53 PM: I would too! It rediculous that they can get away with this! I'm going through the TIO right now because Vodafone is unreachable for me.

I have the same problems with calls to customer service continually dropping out. You wait 45 mins and then when someone answers they get as far as "Hi my name is ****" and then the call drops out.

Oh and I love it when they launch an "investigation". They say they'll ring you back in five days when what they really mean is wait for ten days before someone rings up and says "How is this problem going?".

Not acceptable Vodafone.

28 Dec 2010 07:38:30 PM: Especially when no one is listening only charging $$
28 Dec 2010 07:41:25 PM: We understand everyone's frustrations but we should all try to remember that the individual employee in retail stores can only do so much, through no fault of their own. To the original poster, we have the same concerns as well, which is why we have put up the forum rules and we are just swamped with moderating this site at the moment. People commenting on twitter however are beyond our control. We appreciate your understanding as well. - Vodafail Team
28 Dec 2010 07:42:50 PM: They might be putting a lot of money in to fix it but how much is it costing the brand, the customers and how long will it take? Clearly Vodafone failed to anticipate the demands 3g would place on the network and it is now well behind. Not exactly the best time to be advertising ever more generous download limits and pricing. Fix the problems first before you encourage more customers who will simply become disgruntled and angry.
28 Dec 2010 07:45:57 PM: Vodafone should shut it's stores until it can provide service
28 Dec 2010 07:48:15 PM: You really think thats a solution ahahah
How would shutting the stores help dude??
28 Dec 2010 07:51:44 PM: So you know there is a problem! That is why this blog exists, because Voda and its some of its staff are knowingly selling a product that has issues (your words). If I did that in my industry, people would die! Potential trade practise issue?? Hmmm. Pumping a lot of money in to fix a problem? What problem is that pray tell.
28 Dec 2010 07:56:29 PM: this post is 100 percent correct
28 Dec 2010 08:09:22 PM: in reply to post 09:51:44 PM:
Yeah there is a drop out problem... its there with all companies... and yeah i agree thats why the blog exists but my point is be respectful about what you say unlike the comment i copied in the original post.
And no its not the case of knowingly selling a product with issues,,, many customers do face this problem but on the other hand many dont... the network does get overloaded at certain times... but its a problem that it is being worked on...
28 Dec 2010 08:12:20 PM: People may have died already, using vodafone to call emergency services
28 Dec 2010 08:27:57 PM: Obviously there is a problem & obviously Vodaphone is now going into damage control. Vodaphone are probably even spending some money on it - NOW. I wonder though, is Vodaphone spending anywhere near the amount of money that it has recieved from customers on monthly plans (that have had to continue paying their bills)for a service that either doesn't work, or is so unreliable that it is just a complete rip off.
28 Dec 2010 08:28:28 PM: In reply to the original post - first vodafone decided that t can screw up its clients, next thing they ask to have mercy and be patient and respectful. The attitude that vodafone is having from the clients is the reflection of their frustration and anger - instead of begging to be civilized - you'd better keep your mouth shut, roll the sleeves up and show that you can make things better. Do not bring up the rubbish about your resellers - they sell your service the way you portray it and the way you want it to be portrayed - it is essentially vodafone who put the resellers in this situation - if vodafone cares - they should pull the finger out of their backdoor and treat the clients and partners with respect and fix the hangups...
28 Dec 2010 08:30:33 PM: Obviously there is a problem & obviously Vodaphone is now going into damage control.
28 Dec 2010 09:04:42 PM: vodafone just spend too much of their time and money on promoting themselves. they need to start looking after the customers they have before they lose everyone.
28 Dec 2010 09:14:45 PM: Besides, people are generally reflecting those comments at the Company.. Not the individuals. It's not until those individuals show the same level of disconcern and rudeness that it will be returned by your customer - after all a customer selects one service provider over another for a reason. They're not gonna start hating on the company unless the company pisses them off.

Special occasions like birthdays,Christmas friends from overseas..how about if you found someone dying on the side of the road and you try to call for help and your call doesn't get threw Its even sadder seeing someone complain about people complaining WOW you must be a real charmer a person thats on top of the food chain aye LMFAO

i agree with the original post
Its simple you dont want to spend a lot ur gonna have to sacrifice somewhere.... if ur not happy then go to Telstra and pay 10 times the amount ;)
I dont see which is the rip off? paying 10 times the amount for good reception or having to press redial and pay hardly anything.... and if ur worried about flagfall go onto the new infinite plans... and get infinite calls.

8058 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Gotta Follow the Rules at 29 Dec 2010 08:06:03 AM
Until the ACCC makes new recommendations, or the class action gets up, we still need to follow all the rules, yes it has been established and admitted by Vodafone that their is a problem but that doesn't give anyone the rights to stop paying or just port out and cancel, if you do this you will affect your credit file and you will be in the wrong.

Keep a diary of events, establishing the problem.

Figure out exactly what you would like to be done about it, be prepared to compromise!

Contact Vodafone tell them what the problem is and what you would like as a remedy.

If then they can't help you, then contact the TIO, or join the class action.

Wait times are crap at the moment of course because of all the problems, you will have to be patient and wait your turn, and yes it sucks, but until you have actually spoken to them and they have not agreed to help, they haven't done anything wrong!

And remember you'll catch way more flies with honey than vinegar, be polite, be reasonable, be patient, it always works best!

29 Dec 2010 11:03:56 AM: Another good tip, is put everything into an email and send it to them, of course as pointed out on this site you may not get an answer in a hurry, but it is still a log of information outlaying your problems, send a copy to yourself so you have a record, it will all add levity to your cause!

10079 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is at 3 Jan 2011 10:54:58 AM
I was with Vodaphone for some time on both pre-paid and plan. In 2008 in the month of March I was on vacation in the Philippines. Before I left I organised my Vodaphone to be put on roaming by a Vodaphone representative, She was certain that and assured me my phone was now on roaming. So I embarked on my five week vacation to the Philippines. When I arrived I noticed my phone was not on roaming and I could not use it. Five days into my holiday I had an accident at a waterfall in which I sustained a badly fractured right ulnar and radius. These injuries required me to undergo surgery and being hospitalised for three days. Because my phone was not on roaming I could not contact my insurance company and the phone system in the hospital could not make phone calls outside there region. Because I was not able to contact my insurance company I had to pay in full for my surgery and hospital fees. This left me with no money for the rest of my holiday. It was lucky my injuries were not more serious because I could not even contact my family in Australia. You can not imagine how frustrating this was not to be able to contact your loved ones when you are about to go into surgery. When I returned to Australia I informed Vodaphone of what had happened and they were apologetic however refused to compensate me in anyway. I asked them to investigate this and was not informed in any way about an outcome of an investigation. I will never use Vodaphone again and I will always share my experience with people who are thinking of attaining a plan for a mobile phone.
3 Jan 2011 03:55:24 PM: Tip 1: if you arrive overseas and your fone is that important to you, buy a local prepaid sim
Tip 2:If you go to a third world country, take out the apropriate insurance, so if you do require surgery, you can be flown back to Australia
25 Nov 2011 05:24:15 PM: When someone tells me they are going overseas i say to them get a local sim so they don't get roaming charges and you get a local mobile phone number and the same with 3g umts modems and if you take a umts modem from australia you get charged aprox $15.00 per mb and i have herd of phone accounts running into the thousand of dollars with data on phone and modems and that is why get a local sim

4 Jan 2011 07:47:40 PM: Their data network is totally broken, and you cant get a straight story. I get 5KB/s on ozspeedtest in Ryde, NSW with Voda USB stick. My iphones are worse. 10902 Someone from TAS thinks vodafone is Wheres the Upgrades? at 6 Jan 2011 12:47:47 PM
According to the Vodafone website (Network Issues/Upgrades) there is no mention of upgrades of the network for Tasmania for 2011. Has Tassie been forgotten again, poor 'regional' Tassie, always has to miss out. But maybe they can justify this by saying they have good reception here (at the Call Centre!)
6 Jan 2011 02:48:25 PM: I noticed this myself, and commented down the bottom of the blog in which I found the network upgrade page regarding this. I checked the blog again this morning and quite a few of the comments including mine (which included no swearing or abuse) had been deleted. Obviously we HAVE been forgotten and Vodafail can't take the criticism for it.
7 Jan 2011 09:59:16 PM: Uh guys....if you would care to actually read the page you will find that the listed upgrades on the website are for "between January and March 2011".

It's no wonder Tasmanians are thought of as being backward...
8 Jan 2011 10:05:11 AM: Well they could make us feel as though they are thinking of us, if only to say they are considering 'upgrades' outside of the January to March time frame. Then there is the matter of Vodafone removing/deleting customers comments relating to this...
8 Jan 2011 02:35:30 PM: WTF are you on man? Vodafone as a company have nothing to do with this site.

Unless of course you're talking about their own site, in which case, anybody who runs an online blog can reserve the right to moderate comments and remove those that are considered to be abusive, trolling attempts etc. You see it on Whirlpool all the time.

Has it ever occurred to you that they may actually be going through an assessment process to determine what upgrades happen, where they happen and when they happen? It stands to reason that the areas facing the biggest problems will get done first.

The state of Tasmania has less than a quarter of the population of the city of Sydney, so do you think that the number or percentage of people having problems is going to be anywhere nere comparable? Of course it's not.

Tasmania's turn will come.
8 Jan 2011 06:53:53 PM: To the previous comment: I'm fairly sure the OP is talking about the Vodafone website and the blog where they posted planned network upgrades. People are calling Vodafone Vodafail, so it does get confusing sometimes. And I agree with you, they have to start somewhere when fixing stuff. There have been a few comments from people in TAS to say they are not experiencing issues, so maybe that's another reason they have not been prioritised.
11 Jan 2011 01:04:16 AM: @7 Jan 2011 11:59:16 PM Just to be clear on that, is that 2011 on the Christian Calendar?
11 Jan 2011 10:19:10 PM: http://vodafone.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3730

Look at it for yourself. Tas IS NOT listed. As for the population being less? That's a fair call. But the percentage of the population being less? Where did you learn maths? The size of a population has ABSOLUTELY NO relation to the percentage of a population. Moron.
14 Jan 2011 10:47:32 PM: Guys look I agree the coverage in Tassie needs to be improved in a Lot of areas however.... I used to live on the west coast as well as cradle mountain where my only option was Telstra, after enduring countless years of overpriced plans with little value and bills upwards of $300 per month I finally moved to a location where I had a choice. Vodafone plans are the best value on the market the customer service has been in the past fantastic and I made the conscious descision to go with this company even though the network does not cover a large area of our state. I keep a Telstra pre paid sim card for places that don't have coverage to use in emergencies but honestly it doesn't get used that often. I have found however for the most consistent coverage older style phones are the best, stay away from the so called smart phones as they seem to struggle with switching between 2g and 3G networks and this is where it is dropping out, don't believe me? Try it yourself the smartest thing about smart phones is the marketing behind them
14 Jan 2011 10:49:59 PM: Smart phones work perfectly on Telstra's NextG Network (Best coverage and performance in Aus) :)
18 Jan 2011 11:28:03 AM: I use to work at Vodafone 3 or 4 years ago, back then they were talking about Tassie becomming 3G within a year - Don't hold your breath - Want FANTASTIC service, swap to Telstra - I travel around the state & only found a small spot travelling to Coles Bay the only non-reception area on my Iphone 3 & 4.
22 Jan 2011 10:03:38 AM: @ 12 Jan 2011 12:19:10 AM - Again, if you have a look at the page, it says "between January and March 2011"; why would a state be listed when there are no scheduled upgrades for that period?

As for maths and percentages, do you mean to say that (for instance) 20% of 500,000 is comparable to 20% of 3,000,000 in terms of raw numbers? FYI that is 100,000 vs 600,000. Sure, they're both 20%, but a there's a big difference when you break it down. Who's the moron now?
20 Jul 2011 06:56:54 PM: well here we are in july 2011, vodaphone still useless

11082 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Very Fail at 7 Jan 2011 12:46:24 PM
I have not been able to use my 3G network properly for many months. I made a complaint about 6 months ago after major frustrations and just gave up and dealing with a 2nd rate service. I went into a store one day and I was advised to turn off the 3G network as it "really doesn't work well anywy". Whenever I have full bar on my 2G network I have tried to switch over to 3G and goes right back to no service. why should I have to pay full price for a service which is not meeting up to its expectations. I tried to call vodafone today and there appears to be no option for them to call back as after 10 minutes I gave up. I run my own business and sometimes I have 3 h ours of voicemail deliveries due to non delivery. I have not used visual voicemail for many months due to it not being reliable. Very very frustrating,
7 Jan 2011 02:12:15 PM: Also have been told by staff to turn off 3G which does improve the call reception but leaves you wondering whether we have just stepped back 10 years in technology and why we are paying for a 3G service we are even advised by VODAFONE doesn't work.

13892 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Ultra fail at 21 Jan 2011 01:40:40 PM
Drop outs, data non existent, when it is there it takes ages to load a web page, I thought leaving 3 was the right thing to do.... FAIL!
21 Jan 2011 02:07:11 PM: 3 went through the same pain. In the early days they couldn't transfer from 3G to 2G(roaming) without dropping the call. While this mainly applied when you were on the move, if you were on the border between coverage areas it wasn't unheard of to drop calls while stationary. These problems have been largely smoothed out by 3 but makes you wonder if this is what's happening with Vodafone.
22 Jan 2011 12:49:00 AM: I will have full 3G reception, not even touch my phone and I lose all reception. Messages CONSTANTLY fail to send. extremely frustrating. I have missed many shifts at work thanks to it not working. I have been in a rush to find people in the city and I have to use someone elses phone to ring them because even though my phone will have reception, it just disconnects me. And it's not my phone, I had to get a replacement recently due to dead pixels and that was the same. I've been with 4 different telco's and nothing this woeful.
22 Jan 2011 12:51:44 AM: Oh and the insurance team is as useless as a wet rag. Asked if my battery was covered due to water damage and he did not understand that. Just went 'huh?' and then went on about something to do with the phone being covered by insurance when I wasn't asking about that. Somehow couldn't comprehend what a battery is and that it can be removed.
22 Jan 2011 03:52:36 PM: As a small business owner, I was at the point of paying whatever it cost to get out of my contracts and sign up with a less disreputable, and more reliable network.
Lodged complaint online with tio, took 3 mins. Vodafone released me from 2 contracts ( 1 had 18 months to go). Signed up with telstra, pay the same get 3 gig instead of 1 gig, got an iphone 4, the difference is like comparing dial up to cable, get texts when they are sent, people I send texts to get them straight away (unless they are with voda). My business prides itself on reliability and proffessionalism, our only drawback was vodafone.

The Vodafone executive board should be forced to resign.
21 Dec 2010 09:49:47 PM: And walk away with the standard Golden Handshake/Parachute? There may be ways of getting them jailed. Or dumped in the middle of Belanglo forest with only a VeryF*cked phone and sim.
22 Dec 2010 10:24:47 AM: I agree, the Vodafone board should be brought to account for this fiasco.

i dont want wooly apologies about we could have been more upfront.
i want transparency now. What is the problem? When are they fixing it? When will it be fixed.

While the apparently incompetent management fumble about, I feel sorry for the poor staff in the stores.

2408 Someone from TAS thinks vodafone is reaping what they've sowed at 27 Dec 2010 12:52:43 PM
Poor reception in Hobart CBD and surrounding suburbs - weird black spots in main shopping centres or certain suburbs.

The worst issue for me is the 3G speed. Using the speedtest app averages 2.00Mbps down and 1.0Mbps up in Melbourne CDB - Hobart CBD averages 0.10Mbps down and 0.50Mbps up.

These are not the '3G' speeds I want to be paying $79 a month for. I'd be interested to know what other people average in Tasmania.
27 Dec 2010 02:24:31 PM: Launceston= hit and miss. in the CBD its fine, out in the northern suburbs its shit. As soon as you get up near Prospect and start heading towards the NW Coast then there is no reception for over half the trip. Dodgy and intermittent on the NW Coast. It reverts to GPRS and wont work in some areas. All in all: annoying and not worth it.
27 Dec 2010 03:46:46 PM: Half the time 3G works really, really slowly in Hobart CBD and the other half of the time it's switching between 3G and EDGE. Surely someone can make Vodafone PROVE that their network is 3G and that people can USE it?
28 Dec 2010 02:45:09 PM: I generally always use gsm/edge because 3g is just not worth it, I know i will get a signal and data speeds I can deal with but 3g, I just give up... I once called VF to complain, they did not believe me, wanted me to complete a 50 question complaint feedback form thing, could not be bothered because they made reporting of outages etc too difficult. I gave up on my wireless broadband when it would create a net connection but would not transmit, either up or down...
28 Dec 2010 08:43:14 PM: Vodafone data in Hobart is absolutely crap. I have done extensive testing all over Tasmania. Actually Devonport has been the best I can get. Northern suburbs of Hobart around Brighton, Bridgewater, Gagebrook, Old Beach are a waste of time.
Telstra is better but still nowhere near their 7.2 they advertise.
28 Dec 2010 10:47:18 PM: what would you expect in hobart im surprised you use mobiles down there i would of thought you would be putting the 6 digits on each hand to better use like playing banjoes and dynamiting catfish in the dam
29 Dec 2010 01:22:50 AM: I've been with Voda for about 3 years now, I haven't been able to get 3G on my mobile 'broadband' anywhere in Launceston, so I only use it in Melbourne where I get a 'poor' to 'good' 3G signal. I got an iPhone last year and have found I can get reception in the City and in Norwood but not in Newstead (directly between the City and Norwood!) No reception in Prospect, Hadspen, Newnham or Rocherlea apart from the occasional one bar of reception to recieve a message that can be up to three hours old. I hate the idea of going to Telstra because as far as I can see they are a major rip off. They are unwilling to match Voda's plans or caps even though they have the client base and the reception. I don't even use their home phone survice anymore. Has anyone else signed up for the 'My Say' email survey? every time they ask if I have any comments on improving their business all I badger on about is reception. I hope everyone else is doing the same.
I really hope this all makes a difference,
29 Dec 2010 11:30:12 AM: i have been using vodafone internet connection for about a year now and for that that time i get nothing but a constant poor connection and alot of the time none at all i live in glebe nsw and you would think that i would get fantastic reception , i have talked to several vodafone people about this issue and still nothing gets done about . mark murray
31 Dec 2010 08:03:36 PM: no planed 3g in any of tassie.....
1 Jan 2011 06:54:36 PM: n
1 Jan 2011 07:01:39 PM: maybe mr mark murray could move elly-may and the cousins north to stay with him, knock back a cask of lambrusca and swap vodafone war stories, that would be entertaining enough ,you wont have to give yourself grief about the internet then.
7 Jan 2011 09:24:00 PM: "No planned 3G in any of Tassie...." So I guess that the "3G" on the screen of my phone and my ability to make video calls are figments of my imagination?

Granted, I get the odd drop out, but f*** me, I used to get those on Telstra too (not that you'll hear anybody admit to it on any online blogs). They can happen with any wireless network anywhere in the world.

I'll bet that you'll find that most people who are reporting problems are using new generation smartphones such as iPhone or any phone running the Android OS.

The reason that they will be having more problems than anybody else is because smartphones are constantly synchronising data in the background for various apps.

Say for the sake of the argument that a mobile tower has 50 channels available to carry voice calls, video calls, and data connections.

Voice calls only use one channel each, so that 1 tower can simultaneously handle 50 voice calls.

Video calls and data connections on the other hand, take up 2 channels each, therefore reducing the total number of simultaneous events that it is able to handle.

Most of the time you'll find anywhere up to 100 "keep up with the Joneses" types (most of whom just have to have an iPhone because it will be the answer to their coverage problems) crammed into an area that is covered by a single tower, all with their background data turned on so that their Facebook etc keep synching throughout the day.

Bang - there you have it - instant congestion.

So to those who think getting an iPhone 4 or similar phone is the answer to their problems, I'm sorry - but it isn't. By using one of these types of phones, you are in fact directly contributing towards your own problems.

For the record, yes I happen to be a Vodafone customer, but I am not (and have never been) an employee of Vodafone, although I will admit to having worked in the mobile telecommunications industry in the past.
21 Jan 2011 08:47:46 PM: Mornington - lucky if we get 45kdownload on wireless internet

3571 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Very fail for mobile internet at 27 Dec 2010 04:21:03 PM
Fortunately I am out of this mess now and have Optus mobile internet and it works. That is why I am connected to the internet. My Vodafone mobile internet connection worked reasonably for the first six months of my two year contract. Then it got bad. I called and they told me it was because of my Norton Anti Virus. As I am not majorily IT savvy, I believed them.

A few months later, I had some time and I actually switched off my Norton and there was no change.

The crap ' I will work when I feel like' availability worsened over the next 6 months. It got to the stage where if often wouldn't even work FULL STOP. When it did 'work', it frequently cut out and it was never possible to have more than one webpage open at a time. I had to keep my mobile phone and other devices in another room to reduce its issues.

After more frustration, I was home on a TOIL day and I called vodafone again and was told that someone would call me back and let me know about the network coverage. Gee what a surprise, no call back.

Towards the end of my contract, I started getting calls from the salespeople (obviously trying to get me to sign up again). I told them about the issues and they made absolutely no effort to help me even though I had been paying $50 a month for internet that rarely worked.

It was at the stage where I would go and fill up the sink and wash a few dishes while waiting for the internet to change pages. What a joke, then it would usually cut out anyway.

I didn't bother trying a telecommunications ombudsman or others as I figured they would be dealing with millions of others but it would be good if there was better regulation in the industry.
I decided that I would just go and buy another internet service and pay for two until the end of my contract with vodafone as I really needed the Internet at home to study at night. I got the new Optus service, and I couldn't believe it, Optus worked, it didn't cut out, the speed was reasonable and I could have a few pages open at a time.

I was so angry with having been ripped off my vodafone. I went into the Vodafone store and asked to payout the rest of the my contract and they didn't want me to do it in the store. I had to raise my voice and complain loudly in front of the other customers to get it done. The guy calculated the amount and I paid out the rest of the contract.

A month or two later I got a letter from Vodafone telling me that I owed them $33 dollars, I didn't pay because I was so angry that I had done all the right things and then I got a letter from their debt collectors. Ha ha, what a joke, they were chasing me up for $33 and as far as I am concerned they owed me at least $700 for the time that the Internet didn't work (and that is being generous.

I paid it to get them out of my life. I will never have a contract with that company again. I may use prepaid vouchers on my phone periodically but definately no internet and no contracts.

I do feel sorry for their staff. It must be horrible working there.

7459 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Mind blowing fail at 28 Dec 2010 06:35:51 PM
I signed up with them then when about to travel overseas, wanting international roaming turned on, thats all i was after.
while sitting at the airport waiting for my plane, I called the "customer service" line after 50 mins on hold my plane was boarding and had to hangup, going overseas without phone coverage.

Then, 3 months later when moving overseas i tried again, firstly going to a vodafone store, they told me they call the same number I do and may have to wait several hours.
So I though id just try again when at the airport. after over 1 hour on hold in the first attempt, then another 40 mins on hold an hour later ( had to hangup cause we moved areas and lost signal)

So now that I moved to newzealand, I emailed them (finally hunted down an address from their mess of a website.)
I told them i want to cancel my contract because of the horrid service.
They email me back stating they will send my final bill, they did, i got it in newzealand, but thought it's paid via direct debit.

Now the fun part.

8months later i move back to Australia, after no further contact from vodafone, not via the email address or actual post( I know they've got my address, i got the one letter)

I am greeted with a debt collection notice for $130 that when I call vodaphone they put me straight to the debt collectors office as soon as I give my details, not even telling me I'm bring transferred to a different company.

So i pay the bill, but afterward find out that I now have a flag on my name and nearly missed out on getting a home for my family because of a $130 debit.

No one at vodafone ever got back to me to clear my info or to let me ask why i was not contacted further regarding this outstanding amount.

I'll never go back to vodafone, not for ANY reason.
30 Dec 2010 06:03:25 PM: That sounds like a big load of shit. "Oh I am going overseas; might just leave it until I am about to board the plane to put international roaming on." Think about shit before you type it, internet warrior.
7 Jan 2011 09:11:26 AM: You are correct, a Telco default for even $130 can cost you a LOT more than the initial amount disputed in money, lifestyle and lost opportunity which you will never be compensated for. Telco defaults on people's CRAA's are one of the most common form of listings, damaging, and amongst the most expensive to remove, though the success rate is around 80%. Let me know if you want some assistance to try and remove it. PH

Basically I dont receive some messages and when I text people...I find out later that they didn't get a message I had sent!
In fact I have a family member annoyed with me cos I didn't reply to a message.....that I never received!
6 Jan 2011 05:37:21 AM: I have an SMS Burglar Alarm.
I actually received the message 4 hours AFTER the breakin. Then they came in a set of lumps.

Clearly their SMS provisioning is not real time, and at the HIGHEST data cost/rates in the WORLD it is simply criminal that ACCC or the like does not get a covering statement for all NEW customers that their network is overloaded and unreliable with frequent localised performance problems. That would teach them there is a real COST and consequences for endlessly grabbing new money on what they cant deliver.

They tell me there is no SERVICE Level agreement for SMS. There are 2 problems: They oversold their capacity (and did not care), and the regulator at the wheel has been sleeping. I would have hoped Telsta would have put the boot in - but no - and they should know.

Bring on the class action.

11848 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is CUSTOMER SERVICE DISCONNECT at 10 Jan 2011 08:04:23 PM
I had a new contract begin Jan 6- this was for an iphone4 that I ordered on 16th Dec (3 weeks ago). I received a phone call to confirm delivery on Fri Jan 7 and had to confirm someone over the age of 18 would be at the delivery destination. I waited home all day-NO IPHONE. I then called customer service and after waiting online for 115minutes was promised it would come on Monday 10th. Guess what-NO IPHONE. I then called customer service, was on hold 45mins before the line dropped out. I then called again straight after, waited another 45mins before the line dropped out. I called back 4 more times and after getting to the menu and pushing the options i needed, it said "I'm sorry there has been a technical error. Please try again later". This is utter rubbish. I haven't mentioned when I called 3 weeks ago to order my iphone, I called 17 times and was disconnected immediately every time. I am aiming to terminate my new contract and also my partners contract if possible. FAIL.
10 Jan 2011 08:09:33 PM: This also happened to me! Although I ordered mine the beginning of December. Anyways waited at home all Friday and today. Called up and asked for the consignment number. Looked up my deliver on the AaE website and it said that they only received the item at 8:20PM today! I won't receive it until Wednesday. So much for the multiple phone calls telling me my phone will be here Friday.

282 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Massive FAIL at 17 Dec 2010 02:28:10 PM
First of all - I myself is a telecomunication engineer working for one of the leading vendors. I called their helpdesk when I was trying to send SMS to Sweden but it did not work. But I could receive SMS from that same Swedish mobile. I asked the helpdesk guy about text message agreement between Vodafone and the Swedish operator Tele2. But the guy did not want to listen and kept saying I was using wrong number. I asked how come the same number works when I try from 3-mobile? He didnt answer and asked me to try his suggestion. And his suggestion was to add 0011 instead of + (when you dial overseas from Aus), country code, CITY CODE (which is only applicable for calling land lines) and then mobile number beginning with 0. So, the number for SMS should look like: 0011 46 03 071234567. Or just to explain how dumb that was I am giving example using Australian numbers - 0011 61 03 0411576891.

I told the guy that this would definitely not gonna work cause CITY code is not applicable in mobile number system. But the Indian guy got angry and he was so rude and said - "you first try what I tell you to try. who is the helpdesk? if you know how to do it, why did you call helpdesk? first try my recommendation, and if it does not work, call back again." and he hung up.

Of course it did not work and I called back the next day. Talked to an Australian girl this time and she agreed that what that Indian guy said was rubbish. But still she could not help to figure out why I cannot send SMS to Sweden but can receive.

Finally, after waiting for 3 months without a solution, and facing other issues like no coverage in my bed room, or underground car parks or even in safeway/coles, I decided to move to Telstra. Could be a little costly but their NextG got the best possible coverage.

27 Dec 2010 06:58:26 PM: You dont know how lucky you were, not being able to send sms to Sweden, try running a business and not getting any sms messages from anywhere, and not being able to receive calls, and having callers who cant even leave a voicemail message, but insted the vodafone message gives them the impression that the phone has been disconnected. Even Vodafone couldnt retrieve sms messages sent to or tell me who had tried to call me. "it all dissapeared" they said. This went on for eight weeks.Try running a business with this going on and being continually assured it will be fixed by tomorrow. I still get crap receptiona lot of the time, some sms messages dont come through and at times callers cant reach me, cant send emails at all ( vodafone did acknowledge they had an ongoing problem with email).
Vodafone (via a senior manager who I wont name) refused to release me from contract.Perhaps its time to email her again and with all this publicity maybe I should suggest she look at releasing me from the contract, refund what I have paid. As for her her denials regarding a lot of these issues that have come to light more recently, I may include ..."I told you so"
27 Dec 2010 07:36:51 PM: 'I myself is a telecomuication engineer', mate, Why don't you learn english first and improve your grammer before making race based comments. Yes, Vodafone's coverage is shite and most probably their call centre is nearly entirely manned by people of Indians origin (mind you, so is telstra & optus). How about sticking to highlighting what issues you're having with Vodafone and keeping your racial issues to yourself.
27 Dec 2010 07:43:24 PM: Well, speaking of grammar the correct spelling is 'grammar' not 'grammer' :)
better 'clean up your backyard' before you preach buddy ...
27 Dec 2010 07:46:47 PM: I think he is just stating that the Indians are a pain in the you know what to talk to because they don't speak fluent English and pretty much just know enough to read a script in front of them. Useless, they piss me off
27 Dec 2010 07:54:40 PM: How in the hell was this guys comments racial/racist or whatever. Your a bit of a sensitive little princess arent you.
27 Dec 2010 08:15:26 PM: How can the guy's comments be perceived as "racist"? He was stating that the guy he was speaking to was "Indian", that is hardly offensive!
Vodafone is constantly disappointing it's customers. When you are frustrated, it is extremely annoying to be told by someone at a call centre that your problem is easily resolved using the technique they suggested when you know it's ridiculous and it won't work.
So lay off about your racial views 27 Dec 09:36:51 PM - you're the one with the issue!
27 Dec 2010 08:17:23 PM: I understand how annoyed you would have been but you don't have to point out what race you spoke to. It appears to me that the guy you spoke to were dumb because he is an Indian????
27 Dec 2010 08:19:08 PM: Not "were" but "was".
27 Dec 2010 09:07:31 PM: But its true, most of the time when you speak to an offshore helpdesk the last thing you get is help, all you get is frustration at the lack of communication from the so called helper.
28 Dec 2010 07:38:24 AM: whenever my phone was on 3G i have to use area codes to call down the street. lmao, im guessing down my street is long distance now
29 Dec 2010 08:05:35 PM: you are all sad, stop hating here, proper spelling or not. at least were all on the same page when we say vodafone sucks. they have coverage outages all the time and there response constantly is that tower or signal updates are being performed as to the reason there is difficulty, however that is what the have been saying for 2 years as i worked for a vodafone dealer. plus i used to call the indians everyday and i would tell them how to do there job
31 Dec 2010 09:59:19 AM: Vodaphone has Customer service in India, now when I say I spoke to CS in India and Indian told me so and so I am racist?common people what a easy way to abuse...or are you ashamed that you are from India?
31 Dec 2010 10:32:38 AM: Dont people realise that English is the most dominate spoken language in India. I believe they also have the world highest percentage of English speaking persons too.
1 Jan 2011 02:12:26 PM: to be honest u guys seem to be having fun putting up with all this, and since u are putting up with all of this i think u guys deserve to be treated like this. How difficult it is t change service providers ??????
1 Jan 2011 07:42:11 PM: What a fool you are, dont you know what a contract is, dont you know that telcos prey on the fact that customers are locked into contracts??? That is how difficult it is to change service prividers!!!
2 Jan 2011 07:26:49 PM: Yeah i have been trying to change my service providers and it could cost a rediculous amount so shutup you obviously know nothing
4 Jan 2011 04:42:44 PM: Re: 31 Dec 2010 12:32:38 PM
Actually its China :)
4 Jan 2011 07:42:54 PM: According to Wikipeadia India is second to the USA in highest percentages of total number of population that speak English. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_language
9 Jan 2011 02:18:15 PM: i think people are pointing out the fact that they are indian because you can actually understand how their comments would sound to a customer who is annoyed by the crappy service they are getting. I work in telco and the amount of times i have had a indian answer my call and be rude, speak over me, swear, hang up and over all annoy me are very high to the few that are amazing at their job. like a chic named star at virgin....she is awesome at her job!!! and a guy from voda who says his name is tom is awful, rude and pisses me off. I actually hang up if i get him (hehehe a little bit of pay back)

21 Dec 2010 12:04:13 PM: My partner has sent numerous emails to vodafone - the response is always we're looking into it and someone will contact you. That started back in October no ones contacted him with a resolution.
In the past 2 days he has spent over 3 hours on hold to Vodafone to try and get out of his contract as he has a phone he can not use, he pays for a service you are not providing. Where is he in regards to this? Exactly where he was when it all started with a brand new phone he can't use due to no reception.
21 Dec 2010 12:12:36 PM: Is the handset faulty? Have you contacted the manufacturer
21 Dec 2010 12:18:03 PM: The handset is not faulty. Vodafone is faulty.
We're not stupid enough to try all other options before hand. He used to work for Vodafone we know the dril. It's a new phone, new sim card. Accept the problem is Vodafone and people may be more willing to give you a second chance for speaking the truth.
21 Dec 2010 04:08:19 PM: Thanks Nigel but you didn't need to use all those words, all you had to say was: Our systems are fucked, our call centre is fucked, reception and internet is fucked but we are trying to unfuck it but in the meantime eat shit...that about sums it up.
21 Dec 2010 08:43:59 PM: Just a few comments regarding the apology:

"recent intermittent network issues"

These issues have been reported for a very long time and are not intermittent.

"various blogs"

Oh..........that would be www.vodafail.com and other various blogs..........

"it%u2019s clear we could have done a better job at keeping you across what%u2019s been happening."

Better words to have used than "could" is "should" and "across" should be "informed".

"We have been working with customers on a case by case basis to understand individual situations, resolve the issues and see what we can do to put things right, but I appreciate that there may be some of you who are still unhappy."

May be some of us who are still unhappy????? By the way, most of us cannot speak to a consultant on 1555 as the average wait is 45 minutes day and night!!!

"As you may know, we are experiencing some busy times at present into Vodafone Care (our call centre), so thank you for your patience"

Really???? Most of us never knew that!!! I wonder why that is???(see above)

"You can also choose to have a call back if you prefer not to hold."

Tried it..........does not work!!!!

"We%u2019ll also keep you across any other network plans that will improve your service"

It's that word "across" again!!!! Try "informed" next time..........there will be a next time.....right???

Finally my bit, Nigel what you have written appears to have been produced on the back of a fag packet in-between holes on the golf course and really without much thought to the content.

It falls far too short of what should be expected from the CEO of Vodafone.

Your lack lustre telecommunications business appears to be in great disarray, but at last perhaps, just maybe, you are beginning to listen and learn from the most important people in your business, us.......the customers.

Check out the comments on www.vodafail.com and your own various blogs.
27 Dec 2010 10:04:04 PM: Nigel,My fone didnt work for 2 months, I didnt get sms messages, my clients got the impression my fone was disconnected, I lost about $50 000 last year and your manager for portability refused to release me from my contract!!! 1386 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Extreme Fail at 22 Dec 2010 05:22:18 AM
When I joined Vodafone 12 months ago, I explicitly stated that not only do I need reception in my home town (obviously), but I need reception where my parents live in a small town on the other side of the Blue Mountains. Vodafone sold me the plan and the phone (iPhone 3GS) and told me I would have no service problems. The reason I need reception at where my parents live is my mother is sick. Sure enough, I get to my parents town and I have reception for probably 40% of the time. Ringing Vodafone, I was told a "network upgrade is taking place soon". I gave Vodafone the benefit of the doubt and over the next 12 months, my visits to my parents hom town resulted in the same reception problems. I rang Vodafone recently about this and they told me that my phone is incompatible with Vodafones network. When I told them it was the phone they sold me, they told me to "turn 3G off". I told them 3G is always off on my phone because it works slightly better, even for data (go figure!) and then they told me next time I am in the town to call them so they can troubleshoot it. I said to them "so I wait until my phone has reception, call Vodafone, be on hold for over an hour in which time my phone will probably drop out, and then if I get through, I will be told that my phone is working. Or I won't have reception and won't be able to call". They then told me to call from a land line. This is where the saga is currently at. I can't wait to get away from Vodafone... And will NEVER go back! I HATE Telstra/ Bigpond but at least their mobile network and 3G are good!
22 Dec 2010 09:07:45 AM: national roaming works in very few places (mainly the back end of Vic) don't bother for NSW. Grab a phone that supports 900Mhz instead and I bet your oldies have a landline that can contact you on the other side of the granite curtain should there be a problem.
22 Dec 2010 12:50:46 PM: Looks like the very example of what is described in a previous blog on this site (refer "which Voda network ??? at 21 Dec 2010 06:13:35 PM"). Voda 3g uses 2100/900mhz but I think the iPhone 3GS is 2100/850mhz hence incompatible with Voda regional 3g which operates on 900mhz.
29 Dec 2010 08:22:38 PM: I had the exact same issue with 3G.. I was getting better performance using EDGE than I was with 3G. Ridiculous.

2131 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is BAD at 27 Dec 2010 11:48:28 AM
I was with Vodafone for years, it took like 4 hours for someone to get a MMS from me. No Reception bad Drop Outs. You think with their call centre in Egypt they could afford to improve their network! But NOPE! They go and buy another Telco "3" yet their own network is crap! I since changed to telstra you might pay a few $$ more but at least it works and their customer service is in Australia. BONUS!
27 Dec 2010 11:50:17 AM: True i once sent a PXT at like 10am, the receiver didn't get it till like 3am in the morning. Let's just say they weren't impressed.
27 Dec 2010 11:52:20 AM: I've had that happen also pisses me off
27 Dec 2010 11:57:58 AM: Some of my texts can take up to 1 to 2 days to be received
27 Dec 2010 11:59:16 AM: it takes me 2 to 3 days to recieve MMS. It's a joke.
27 Dec 2010 12:02:01 PM: Their customer service is shocking too.
27 Dec 2010 12:02:53 PM: there txt/MMS service is a complete joke.. Hours, sometimes DAYS to send or receive a txt/sms.. just usually get the resend later BS..

27 Dec 2010 12:08:42 PM: That one is a real issue their TXT/PXT service is rubbish. I think Australia Post could deliver a message faster then Vodafone
27 Dec 2010 01:02:48 PM: I have been having txt problems too for the last couple of weeks. Its so annoying specialy when your txting a guy you like and u dont know whether they got the txt or not and you are worried why they havnt replied :(
27 Dec 2010 01:12:35 PM: sometimes some of my sms are sent but never received at all !
and I'm ask them why dont you reply to my questions ? and the person's never even got it, am I still charged for this ?
27 Dec 2010 02:35:31 PM: It often takes me a day or two to send/recieve mms. My data speeds suck, even though I am within 2 km of the CBD. I get missed calls without ever ringing, i drop calls, i get patchy coverage. I'm a freelancer, so nothing is worse thatn a telco that doesnt do it right. I just want to swap to another carrier so i can use my phone. I pay $80 a month, and its not good enough. If i'd known about how bad it would have been, i wouldnt have signed up with vodafone.
27 Dec 2010 02:37:32 PM: Like the Tassie centre, Vodafone closed its Egyptian Call centre quite some time ago. My experience with the Egyptian centre was one of technical competence expertise and honesty.
All Vf Australia call centre is now in Mumbai[Bombay] India, where Vf has many regional service call centres. They operate 24/7 but Aust customers are restricted to 8 till 8. Why? Amongst all Indian Call centres, the Mumbai centre is rated the worst on all points by a country mile.
27 Dec 2010 02:56:43 PM: I was in the process of tryng to cancel my plan, when I was asked why - hey, I got no coverage in my home, no coverage in my suburb, random dropouts elsewhere. I was asked if I wanted to talk to the Techo's (in a distinctly indi-gangetic plain accent)to which I said, "No, I've had enough it isn't a technical problem with either my phone, home, suburb or me! I just want to cancel". This was after waiting some 20 mins in the queue. The response "That is nice sir, I'll just transfer you to the technical staff" followed by the equally inept "The operators are currently busy, please hold and we will transfer you to the first available representative". Aaaaargh! I guess there's a good reason they don't like to have a customer contact centre with customers face to face - they'd get the daylights punched out of them!!

Seriously this is not and hasn't been professional for sometime!!
7 Jan 2011 12:16:23 PM: I now just attach a photo to a pigeons foot - it's way cheaper - and much more reliable.

9 Jan 2011 05:12:22 PM: Did you have to give the phone back
9 Jan 2011 05:42:39 PM: vodafone will not cancel a conract until they have recieved the device.
9 Jan 2011 06:19:28 PM: It's an iPhone, and I told they can keep the piece of S%#T!
Bare in mind I did spend about 4hrs doing it as I was on hold for most of the time and my phone kept 'call failing'.... (not surprised) took about 5mins once I finally got through to the cancelations department.
Returning the phone is besides the point, you'll end up with a better phone signing with another provider and porting your old number. That's what I did.
Getting an X10 on Telstra Next G delivered on Wednesday.
9 Jan 2011 06:29:30 PM: good to hear
9 Jan 2011 07:47:36 PM: My contract runs out on 2 March. I wish to terminate my vodafail contract ASAP but I do not wish to return my handset. Given the recent troubles, do you think I could argue my point? Does anyone know the implications of not returning a handset?
9 Jan 2011 07:54:19 PM: you have to pay to keep the handset im pretty sure
9 Jan 2011 08:34:21 PM: make them a small offer to keep the handset
9 Jan 2011 09:10:27 PM: Just get the same gander from a different carrier on a different plan. Who cares if you have to return it as you'll have a new one.
Any how if you want to fight for that one I'd suggest contacting the telecommunications onbuson regarding it.
Is it just your hand set your so hooked on? My complaint is about service issues or lack of.
10 Jan 2011 03:17:43 AM: Someone who thinks an X10 is a better phone, someones in for a shock.

Please keep us posted on how it works out.
10 Jan 2011 06:05:33 AM: You can't get much worse than an iPhone.... You have to reset the bloody thing almost everyday and sometimes multiple times a day to fix it from freezing etc etc etc. I've had my iPhone replaced at the Apple store 4 times due to hardware issues alone.
11 Jan 2011 05:33:27 PM: enjoy your x10, idiot
12 Jan 2011 01:37:37 PM: You knob! It doesn't matter what phone you end up with. It's about having a network that works!
And for the record the X10 is rated highest out of all Smart Phones for best coverage in regional areas, which is where I am.
If you've got nothing civil and productive to write, perhaps you should go back to wanking over porn sites..

10 Jan 2011 03:18:16 PM: You have already posted a fair few positive comments with very little content, mainly consisting of personal attacks. We have left some of those up so everyone can see your immaturity.
10 Jan 2011 03:21:39 PM: MY IMMATURITY? this is a website where you complain about vodafone, its stupid you have no idea what your doing destroying alot of things, when vodafone falls telstra will own,

One guy pissed off with coverage takes class action against vodafone, did someone make you go with vodafone, or did you walk in and sign the contract yourself?
10 Jan 2011 03:22:16 PM: you are a half wit and a fool, the moderators can see your ip adress, and know that you are constantly posting shit.
You are vodafailure
10 Jan 2011 03:24:32 PM: wow moderators on a website, it annoys me this site is up, do you really need 12,000 people to write in with there problems to take voda to court?
10 Jan 2011 03:31:17 PM: Before this thread turns into a bunfight, can everyone please take a deep breath........hold it...........breathe out.........there, that is much better. Please debate in a mature adult fashion or your posts will be deleted. Thanks Vodafail.com mod
10 Jan 2011 03:42:49 PM: i agree with your comment i just dont agree with this site, aimed to slander and hurt a business.
Not just vodafone, but everysingle big business
10 Jan 2011 03:50:05 PM: Time to clarify a few things:

@10 Jan 2011 05:21:39 PM: Nobody is destroying Vodafone except for Vodafone themself. All this site has done is bring a community together to show everyone they are not alone. This site would not exist if everything was 'peachy' because everyone would not be having problems. Again in case you missed the point of this post, Vodafone have put themself in this predicament, not anyone else. Finally the person that started this site did not start the class action (I don't even think he has registered for the class action, but I am not 100% sure if he has or hasn't), the class action was started by the Law Firm 'Piper Alderman', and they had already received many complaints from customers before this site was started.

So time to take some deep breaths, get your facts straight, and then come up with a common sense reply.

10 Jan 2011 03:56:41 PM: why are you even bothering to write positive comments on a CLEARLY anti vodafone site. They are the ones causing all these people with so much stress and stealing our money. we'll stop complaining when they fix there company and stop ripping everyone off
11 Jan 2011 04:00:08 PM: I agree, this is not a hate site. This is for people to share their experiences with Vodafone. It is a not site for people that come here either swearing their heads off or/and looking for a fight.

And get your facts straight man. Why come here if you know nothing about why you're here? Stop ruining this site for the rest of us.
11 Jan 2011 05:33:34 PM: Even if every post was a single new complaint about Voda say 11000 posts divide that into say 4000000 customers (theres more than that) and then say times in by 10 cos for every 1 that bothers etc...you get 2.75% of customers complaining including ones that haven't with very generous maths! Simple maths proves that the problem is affecting way less people then this site would make it appear. Talk about blowing things out of proportion. Soon things will be better for you 3% rest assured...
11 Jan 2011 09:05:09 PM: Hey @7:33:34PM, your reply was shot down in this post:

Hi everyone
I complained to TIO and Vodafone had 10 days to contact me to resolve the situation. Today is the last day and I have heard nothing from Vodafone. Anyone else had this problem? If I go back to TIO will I have to wait another 10 days? I'm getting married next week and will be o/s for the following 3 weeks - I really need to resolve this before I go o/s....
26 Jan 2011 09:57:51 AM: If the Vodafone doesn't respond within the 10 day period then call up the TIO directly. You shouldn't have to wait again as the 10 day period is meant to give Vodafone the opportunity to fix the problem themselves. Seeing as they haven't contacted you, just ring the TIO tomorrow for the next steps.

15092 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Absolutely Disgraceful... at 2 Feb 2011 08:00:35 AM
OMG, where do I begin? Had a lot of problems with the 3 network due to network connection issues and was tricked by being told we could only cancel the contract if we switch to the Vodafone network. Vodafone is even worse than 3, if thats possible! Have been with Vodafone now for 3 months and phone calls are constantly dropping out with call failed coming up on the screen, regardless if I makes a call or if someone else is calling me which happens with every single phone call, text messages sent from other people both here in Australia and also Texas and Cambodia are not being recieved. I have my own business and we are losing clients due to the extreme lack of network coverage provided by Vodafone, with clients calling and the calls dropping out, me returning calls, and dropping out again and again and again... Even calling Vodafone directly is an issue. I am constantly getting call failed coming up, and it also happens when on the phone to Vodafone. Basically, Vodafone can not provide the phone service that I was promised. I have contacted Vodafone regarding the issue on several occasions, sometimes getting through to them, only when calling from my home phone though, other times not. When I do get through to them, they are frikken rude, uncooperative, unhelful, blaming the sim card or the phone, telling me to reboot etc. Yesterday, after being on the phone to them for over 3 frikken hours, they still would not allow me to be put through to disconnections as they needed technical support to tell them there is an issue, as if they dont already know there is a frikken issue as I got disconnected several times while on the phone, and have been disconnected several other times while being on the phone to them also plus the issues everyone else on here is having, bastards! I got the mega pissed with them yesterday while I was on hold and sent an email off to the TIO, and now they are looking into it, fingers crossed I can get outta my contract and go with another company who is reliable and get my business back on track!
2 Feb 2011 12:53:18 PM: Woohoo for me! After lodging my complaint with the TIO yesterday afternoon, I recieved a phonecall from Vodafone Resolutions this morning and spoke to...an Aussie! He informed me that they have agreed to waive my contract without any fees, only thing is I have to send me BlackBerry back, but oh well, no more bs from Vodafone! It is definately worth taking the 10 mins to fill out an online complaint with the TIO, its amazing how once the TIO gets involved, Vodafone changes there mind regarding cancelling your contract. Good luck guys :)

2 Feb 2011 05:44:04 PM: *flips Vodafone the bird all the way to the nearest Telstra store...*

LMAOOOOO. laughed for a good minute after reading that.
I also got the text saying im out of my contract no charges today. im off to telstra to! woohoo (also only got this from contacting TIO)

I am on a $79 with 2GB data plan. Spent 3 weeks overseas, occasionally using roaming to check email and use maps. I return to $2000 usage racked up. One call I was charged at $80.85 per minute. Then for the privilege I was barred from outgoing calls because I went over my cap. DISGRACE!!!! They wont drop the restriction until I pay up but i haven't even been billed yet!
I will be demanding a refund if they take that $2000 and a release from contract. ** UNACCEPTABLE **

1221 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Major fail at 20 Dec 2010 02:02:59 PM
I went into my local vodafone shop today. To upgrade my existing plan to get a new iPhone 4 after asking the assistant if they had the 32gb in stock to which he advised yes we do. I told him I would like to upgrade my plan. He flat out refused stating due to a lack of stock upgrades have to be done over the phone. And will be waiting till the new year. I'm sorry but if the store has stock they can't be refusing to sell me a phone because they make less money off of it.
Has anyone else had this issue
21 Dec 2010 01:01:24 PM: it isnt an option in store to do an upgrade. this was as of last week. all upgrades for iphones and galaxy s' are to be done over the phone. they will give you a credit of $30 to your bill and a delivery date of sometime in jan. They will give you a more confirmed date over the phone. hope this helped
21 Dec 2010 01:06:31 PM: Yes, sounds familiar! I could have had the iphone4 there and then last Saturday if I'd paid around $850 for it. Had to go through the call centre (35 minutes on hold) then the sales line (another 20 mins on hold) and they still wouldn't place an order for me unless I moved from prepaid to a plan. It took another 25 mins to get that in place. So now I will have an iphone 4 by the end of January. I wish I'd found this website before I placed the order!
21 Dec 2010 02:21:42 PM: It's not like the stores don't want to do it, the system prevents them from doing it, just won't let them procede with an order. So before you start launching into an attack on the staff, remember they don't make the decisions like that.
22 Dec 2010 08:09:39 PM: Sounds like you should be complaining to Apple for deliberately restricting the supply of iphones to keep demand and prices high. To be clear - NO ONE from a company store would refuse to sell you an iphone "because they make less money off of it" than selling outright. Systems permitting they would much rather upgrade you than have you walk out empty-handed. Shortage of iPhone 4 is a WORLDWIDE issue, not just a Vodafone Australia one.
27 Dec 2010 10:20:54 AM: To the guy who placed the order for the iPhone 4 above. You can always cancel your order as you haven't yet received your phone. Just a thought.

1733 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is EPIC EPIC EPIC at 27 Dec 2010 09:01:11 AM
Its a hit and miss! Maybe I can make calls, maybe I can't. Maybe I'm contactable, maybe I'm not. Who knows what their magical formula for connection coverage is? What a welcoming experience ... in the first month they barred my incoming/outgoing because I had not paid the invoice. Funny thing (not) is that they barred me because their business sales rep. had not entered any of my details into their system. Then they threatened to re-bar me if I didn't now pay asap.
27 Dec 2010 09:18:49 AM: You can check all your details on the "My Vodafone" section on their website. It is the consumer's responsibility to ensure that the billing details are correct. Under "My Vodafone" you can track your usage, even un-billed usage, and check and ensure that direct debit details have been set up properly. Vodafone will usually try and contact you 3 times if payment has not been received. If they don't receive any response then they will disconnect - same as all carriers and service providers. If you need time to pay the bill, ask them for time and they will usually give it to you within reason.
27 Dec 2010 10:09:09 PM: So ... i'm guessing you work @ VodaFail !!! Get off these forums are deal with the real problems at hand ie - poor coverage, pathetic customer service.
Secondly, why appoint sales reps for business clients? Why have in depth conversations about what Vodafail can do for your business? Why discuss and promise special plans and discounts? ..... and then ... Why not record the customer's address, email etc ... and hey, while we are at it - Why not give the customer a call to alert them? It's a VodaFail Mobile Number - so i'm guessing they probably couldn't connect! No Coverage after all!

Recently, my partner and I signed up for the portable wireless broadband plan for 10gb a month. We were assured that we would have full coverage in our area, and that the coverage would be more than suitable for online gaming. We are lucky to have one bar of coverage, thus meaning that gaming is near impossible due to lagging issues and glitching. Furthermore, my iphone plan is with Vodafone, and I'm constantly going in and out of service when I was assured full coverage in my area.
27 Dec 2010 12:46:06 PM: gaming on wireless will ALWAYS be dodgy with any current network connection or provider I would think.

But yeah painful when you dont have standard service.
27 Dec 2010 06:44:24 PM: wireless with Telstra is fine for gaming.
27 Dec 2010 08:37:49 PM: i agree only telstra wireless would be suitable for gaming.
27 Dec 2010 09:25:16 PM: Online gaming on a USB dongle is never going to be great. Even with Telstra is going to lagg like crap.
27 Dec 2010 10:07:51 PM: Don't game on a wireless connection then complain. Use a landline.

2712 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Signal is SHIT!!! at 27 Dec 2010 02:07:18 PM
Over the past few months Vodafone's signal has gone to SHIT!! I pay money to be able to use my phone but more often than not I can't even get one bar of signal at home or in the city so what is the point of having a phone if you cant use it. I went into the Vodafone store the other day to complain and the guy told me that there is no signal issues and when I told him it wasn't only me having this problem he said that there are a lot of people at the moment complaining just to get out of contract. Vodafone just need to acknowledge there is a problem and fix it!!!
1 Jan 2011 09:05:50 PM: What plan are you on? Didnt the salesman give you the backup kit? The one with sticks and a lighter and some paper. Its for sending smoke signals
15 Jan 2011 10:50:46 PM: Not fair! I had to buy 2 empty cans and an UNLIMITED ball of string.
