26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

5846 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is gradually getting worse at 28 Dec 2010 06:07:51 AM
I've been with Vodafail for YEARS and been satisfied until recently. Things have noticeably been on the slide. After receiving regular email bills & text reminders, suddenly they stopped. I'm starting to have drop outs too...strange! My contract finished in December '10, there was no reminder as expected. I spend time on the line with customer service & it's more challenging to feel confident that whatever my issue is will be resolved. I've lost a lot of faith. Now that my contract/s are up, I'm seriously going to consider moving to another company. I will deal with this today.

5845 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Primitive at 28 Dec 2010 06:07:20 AM
I signed up with Vodafone after being a long time Optus customer. My parents got a new iphone and I did to.Since then it has been nothing but a horrible experience. I am a single mother of two kids who go to day care I need my phone in case the child care need to contact me but if I am at work I do not have reception on my phone even though the person sitting next to me has full reception on their phone, they are with optus.I have tried to contact Vodafone but it is near impossible. I dont receive messages when they are sent. Calls drop out there is really poor recetion no matter where I am.I have to walk around trying to get it. I was charged with excess net charges even though I dont use use it as it is impossible to do so it took me three days to contact Vodaone customer (not Care) to talk to someone about it and finally got on to someone only to be told that there was nothing they could do about it even though I asked them to look at my other bills that clearly showed that I do not use the net on my phone but they were not interested all they did was take money of it which still made it double my monthly amount.I dont use the net on it as it is impossible to do so.I am so over it it is the worst thing I have ever done I need a reliable service in case my children need me but with vodafone I cannot expect this.

5843 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is WHERES MY SAT NAV? at 28 Dec 2010 06:05:47 AM
i got roped in as well. i got a new nokia n97 mini for "free" on a 24
month $29 contract with the first 12 months being half price at $14.50.
my first bill is 41 dollars. i rang them and it said there was a 40
minute wait to speak to someonbe. after 29 minutes, the line went dead.i
was furious!when i got through, they said i hadnt 'activated' the
discount yet, they transferred me to the "discount activation" centre
which was closed. i rang back the next day, and left a message for
someone to call me back. they said i was billed the full rate pro rata
and that my discount would start from the date of THIS call not the date
i started the contract. i got a text message sayinbg my discount starts
from now, so i saved it so i can give it to the ombudsmen when they try
to bill me more than %14.50 next month! the nokia comes with sat nav
which was a selling point for me. too bad the internet connection drops
out or takes to long to load a page, the sat nav is rendered USELESS!!
IF YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO IS THINKING OF SIGNING UP WITH VODAFONE, TELL
THEM TO forget it!!

5842 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is slow at 28 Dec 2010 06:05:45 AM
The data speed in Melbourne is super slow, sometimes 3g isn't even working. Been out for couple of drives the last couple of days to Torquay and Phillip Island and half the time no 3g, and sometimes to reception either. Not good when your relaying on google maps. Lucky we have some friends on virgin with us, their data is reliable and fast. They had no problems from Melbourne to Phillip island in fact the only problem was their battery lift because they could use their phone's the whole way!
Come on Vodaslow, get with it!

St.Lawrence, Central Queensland, tower, does not seem to be maintained any more. Everytime the area loses power, Vodafone disappears, sometimes days on end, been with them since 1996, in different areas, calls drop out continuously, now only have one prepaid mobile, main mobile with another seemingly more reliable carrier, in March 2010 reliability increased, just walk away, I did.

5837 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Poor Equipment at 28 Dec 2010 06:02:02 AM
Vodafone is absolutely crap!I have complained to them numerous times and it still gets me nowhere. I hardly ever even have ANY reception. Calls drop out all the time. I completely HATE THEM and tell everyone I know never to go with them because they are so rubbish. Can't wait til my contract is done, I will change over to someone, ANYONE, else!!!! My boyrfirend works in the Telco industry and I know that Vodafone often have their equipment just sitting out in the open in a desk, (one time was sighted on a desk in SCHOOL!), and he says it is the worst equipment he has ever seen since wokring in the industry for the last seven years. No wonder they are so crap.

5836 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is near complete fail at 28 Dec 2010 06:01:53 AM
i've been a customer since 2000 and the reception in the last 3 or so years has been bad. even when i'm calling from city to city, i have dropouts. even within seconds of the receiver answering the call. personally, i think they want to make money from connection fees. sometimes i have to call 4 times just to have a conversation.

the other issue is MMS. i sent a picture of my new puppy to some friends and i got messages from some people - one person received the message SIX times! others 2, others 4, the lucky ones got it once.
i tried to complain and called 1511 and after battling it out with voice activated lara, i got to talk to someone in a call centre overseas. she pretended not to hear me when i starting making the complaint and get this - she said that she can't hear me and the connection must be faulty (tell me how can a telecommunications multinational be allowed to have poor connection to the phone help desk??????) - then started reciting "please call back during the business hours of ..." to which i was appalled and tried to get her to 'hear' me, she repeated herself again.

then i said - "you're lying"
to which she replied (with perfect timing as if she'd heard me) - "goodbye"
ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so i decided to call again and after waiting for 30 minutes, gave up.

so i emailed complaints. they gave me the run around. eventually after being passed through 2 people, i was advised to call yet another stupid number. i give up!

i have decided to pay for the MMS's and switch telcos as soon as my blasted contract is over.

i don't normally get riled up but this multinational is really giving me the expletive.

I use the Vodafone mobile broadband service and although their coverage map shows that I should get good reception in my town of Raymond Terrace, it's only occasionally that I get a strong signal of three bars out of a possible five, normally I only get one or two bars. Irrespective of the number of bars though, on many occasions even if I do have three bars, there is no download or upload activity happening for long periods of time even though it shows I am connected.

Extremely poor reception, Call drop outs, unsent and unreceived text messages on a regular basis. I have given up attempting to contact vodafone. Am extremely angry at this point as just the simple thing of sending a text is unpredictable, and has caused a lot of grief with my family, friends and work due to this. Several months ago I would send a text and either none or 10 were received. The text message issue has only been for several months however the call drop out has been going on for years for me and as I travel to Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra regularly this issue has occured everywhere not just in Tasmania. Yep not happy right now.

Almost every call I have, whether I commence or receive the call drops out after a very short time & then I cant get the person back - sometimes for hours, I often dont have service, I cant browse applications (they wont stay connected), delayed messages, failed mailbox, and the list goes on.

Worse, is the lack of customer service, waiting at times for up to 37 minutes before a person answers the phone, and then only to drop out before I can log my fault.

Hi All, About a year ago I was having problems with Threes internet service, it was slow and generaly unuseable. I fought and fought with them to get released from contract. After at least 20 phone call and 2 trips to Melbourne they offered me to go across to Vodafone without charge. Oh what a mistake. It has now been a year and so many drop outs and phone calls later, I final have just had enough. The worst part, I study online and had a MAJOR exam, yes you guest it the internet dropped out and I failed that Exam. That was the last straw. I have now been fighting for over 6 months and had so many technical support help calls so that i can just get out of this mess of a company. So many major problems later and I have finaly told them enough is enough. I have now been realeased from contract and have sent there usb stick back. I will not be paying any charges from them, I would love to look at sueing them for the loss of marks in my schooling. My advice, DO NOT GO NEAR THIS COMPANY!

Other providers have much easier to access usage info.
Last time I called I had to wait for a callback which was helpful but would have preferred faster resolution

5825 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Poor Service Does NOT REFLECT ADVERTISING at 28 Dec 2010 05:52:31 AM
Over the past 6 months I have been unemployed and looking for a job so my mobile was critical. I have had numerous times when calls have failed to reach me only to be diverted to voice mail and then subsequently had to ring the other pary and be charged for the missed call. I also experienced the "network busy" issue on numerous occasions in the heart of Sydney. When visiting country NSW recently, my phone was useless due to the lack of coverage.
Obviously the advertising does not stack up against the reality - this is a major issue for the ACCC and the Department of Fair Trading to investigate.

5822 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Appalling at 28 Dec 2010 05:50:08 AM
I have been a Vodafone customer since 2000, and at first was pretty satisfied. Just last year I upgraded my contract to receive a new phone and some discounts with 3G data. Then this year a USB modem to supply data to my new Macbook. When I agreed to terms I was adamantly told I was in an area which received good service and coverage.Again and again I explained I had no land line at home and the USB modem would be my only source of connection for data transfer. I was also lied to about the price I was to be charged for my contract. I negotiated a price for the USB modem, which included a 25% discount. My USB modem arrived in the post, with instruction to phone Vodafone to connect. In order to connect I was instructed I had to verbally agree to the contract which was supplied to me with USB modem pack, which differed to the one I had negotiated over the phone. I was then instructed to agree to the contract provided and it would be rectified once I had done so. When I later inquired to the amount I was paying, and explained my situation, I was told in no uncertain terms that no such discount was, or could have ever been offered. A check of my supposedly recorded con-versation when I first negotiated failed to appear i guess, as I was never granted an explanation I was promised. I swallowed this and moved on. Then in the last six months I have suffered endless connection and data download problems. I have complained and they have filled out trouble tickets. At different times I have been told differing accounts of why my data connection is either slow or not working. Rangining from the construction of the building I am in, which has not changed, the position of my building, which has not changed, that I am in a bad area, or area of low coverage, which is the same area I was in when I first agreed to terms with Vodafone, which worked fine. I live in a one bedroom house with no construction of houses in my immediate area, which was another excuse offered by Vodafone. When trying to discuss problems with customer care, at times being on the phone for over an hour dealing with people who are obviously not interested or understanding of your problems it becomes very frustrating. My latest call to Vodafone on Boxing day must have interupted Xmas celebrations at their call center. During the cheering and applauding in the background my helpful customer care operator would be non responsive, at times not listening to my explanations, then I was being treated as if I was being difficult. I was told that where I live had been experiencing difficulties ? No kidding!!! I was also told that there would be no improvements in the near future and that was that !!!!! Not good enough VODAFONE !

I was with Vodaphone initially with my wireless broadband and the performance was absymal - I kept calling customer support - they were nice enough but nothing really changed. I went on to 3 wireless broadband but Vodaphone took over 3 and lo and behold my broadband service dropped out for a few days! I was thinking Oh Not Again but I called customer support and the person was really helpful. Told me there had been an outage in the area. I dont expect perfection - I'm not perfect! no one is. The support person was really helpful and polite and everything she told me was accurate. The service was up and running again in no time and I haven't looked back - it's been TOTALLY hassle FREE. Not only that they topped up my data with a bonus 200MB for the inconvenience so I can't complain. As far as I'm concerned they tried their best to make amends and came through - that's all you can ask of any service. You can't expect no technical hitches ever.

Hey - what about getting a site going in NZ. We have the same problems here but it keeps getting swept under the carpet
5 Jan 2011 10:47:20 AM: Are Vodafone supporting the Australian cricket team?
From my information the Australian Cricket team have been performing a lot better than Vodafone Australia.
So, Vodafone, how about spending less money on spin and visibility and more on the actual service that customers are paying for?
5 Jan 2011 10:54:13 AM: Perhaps that way you wouldn't be getting so much (free) attention because of the Vodafail website.I suspect your shareholders lose a lot of money because of that free attention in the long run.The price of their shares will be in Vodafreefall.
20 Jan 2011 01:41:34 PM: OP- That could be explained by the call centres being in India. Here Vodafone store staff behave uncannily similar to carpet salesmen.
Could be the only genuine closing down sale coming up.

Last week my partner and I(both vodafone) all of a sudden had could not send or receive txt's or calls, dispite having reception. A few days later we were able to send and receive txt msg's however they're delayed. If we drive about 2km down the road we our phones work again. This is proving to be quite dangerous as we have an 18month old and I am in the last stages of pregnancy, and god forbid I need to call a doctor or ambulance. It's like our house has fallen into a blackhole. We live right in the main section of our town too. I have driven down the road on a few occasions and tried to call but I do not have all day to sit on hold. Myn partner and I would both like to get out of our contracts without payment as this is NOT the 1st incident we have had with Vodafone, and let's be honest it won't be the last.

Almost daily my internet wont work.
I've given up on using my 'smartphone' to browse the internet.
Only sticking to facebook and gmail because it's too much of a struggle to load other things and i frankly don't want to be waiting 5 minutes for the load bar to move a milimetre.
In saying that - it consistently tells me i'm not in a coverage area - even though there's bars of reception and a 3g symble.

Then there's the times when i'll receive no messages at all.
Even though i have FULL reception.

Then later in the day my phone will vibrate non stop and i'll get 5-6 messages all at once. I KNOW they werent all sent at that second.

Stop failing vodafone.

There's also the times i'll have no missed calls.
My phone wont ring.
Again - with reception.
But i'll eventually get a message hours later informing me of a voicemail.

Hi
Vodafone ,Three broadband connection $49 cap for 24 months , so not possible to come out of the contract due to huge exit fee .
Connection is such that it will not remain stable for more than 15 minutes , speed drops , gets disconnected . One hr work takes 3 hrs
Broadband modem hardware have pathetic quality goes bad every three months . Even in warranty the customer service refuses to change it and asks to buy a new one for $50 .

It seems Vodafone is either making too much money or the business of a Telecom operator is un viable that they have to retort to practices which are no less than cheating the customer .

Thanks for providing the forum to at least vent out

Signed up for the Pocket Wifi deal. Great device, but not happy with the reception in the Hornsby area in Sydney. I place the device in a location inside my girlfriends unit where I get 5 bars of 3G reception. The 3G service often drops down to the low speed "H" network or I lose service entirely. This makes surfing the web very frustrating. I have to try all manner of tricks to get a connection back again. I hope that Vodaphone realise that this wave of complaints from its customers is not a situation to be ignored. I think it's fair to say that there will not be a magic solution to this, it will take time. If it takes too long Vodaphone will lose a significant number of customers to other telcos.

I cant ring Vodafone from my phone as the calls drop out or the quality is very very poor. IThe messages come through days after they are sent. Calls do not show up. I am unable to get the net on it as It tells me there is no 3g or Wi fi available message or no interent connection available. If I ring Vodafone Lara I am unable to even speak to someone as the calls drop out or the person on the line does not understand me or I am told to turn the phone on and off .I went to the store at Blacktown and the staff are so rude I dont even bother to go anymore.Very unhelpful.

I got a wireless dongle on a 24 month contract so I could access work emails when I traveled. Didn't matter where I was, reception was always "very low" and I had to reboot half a dozen times to then wait 5 minutes for a simple email to download. I just couldn't rely on it anymore so, even though I don't like Telstra, I got a bigpond dongle and never had a problem! I waited 24 months then canceled the contract but they continued to send me monthly bills. Every time I tried to ring I was put on hold for ages then cut off. I started ringing the new sales number as they only take about 20mins to answer that one. When I eventually spoke to a person they assured me my contract was now canceled but wanted to argue about the date - I then figured out they were in INDIA! where it was actually the day before. So now all our private details including credit cards are available to anyone in India??????? I went straight out and canceled all our business mobile phone contracts and took them to Telstra - cost me a fortune but got great customer service and reception in places Ive never had it before!

I have been having network coverage issues for over 4 months now. It doe not matter where I am -I am without coverage 99% of the time. My text messages and voice mail messages are delayed sometimes by over 24hours.
My mobile is so important to me as I have a young daughter and I also atend dialysis daily. So many times the nursing staff have tried to conatct me on my mobile and it goes straight to message bank -and I do not recieve the message in time. While I am on dialysis my daughter attends vacation care, what if they needed to conatct me .....they cannot reach me because I have no network coverage. My mobile phone is also important as I could recieve the most important phone call ever to say they have a new kidney for me. So as you can see my mobile is so necessary for me.
I have rang Vodafone numerous times, many times I have had to hang up after waiting on hold for over 40mins. When I do speak to an operator they tell me me to -restore factory settings and select manual (under settings/network)and they say this should fix the problem, if not ring back in 24 hours. I ring back in 24 hours and they want to do exactly the same fix that we did yesterday. I try to tell them that we did this yesterday -so then they tell me to swap sim cards over and it could be the phone that is the problem not Vodafone.I have asked about exiting my contract early without a fee and they will not do it.....I am realy desperate. Any help would be great.

I use the 'net for email and occasional research. I can never get more than 15 or so minutes very slow connection and that b****y "Lara" on their Help line really should be consigned to the recycle bin. Is this an issue for the Dept of Fair Trading? I'm being forced (after signing a 2 year contract) to pay for a practically non existent service (like many others). I'm going to pursue this when the world returns to normal after New Year.

We cannot ever get reception!! Isnt that bad enough? We pay our contract each month yet don't get the full use of it. I'm always having to reset network settings and then get reception for a few minutes until it drops out again. Sooooo fed up and can't wait till contract ends to be able to change networks. Glad I'm not the only one experiencing this and am very impressed someone had the sense to start a class action and strive for a better service.

Been with Vodafone for 10years and the "service" was/is pathetic. My teenage kids are with other providers and funny enough dont have the same issues on their plans. ie: NO service inside my home (have to go outside to make a call - if I m lucky to get a signal), cant recieve calls (have to power off/on the mobile), when a call is made it is scrappy, wirery sounding and basically useless (the otehr person cannot hear a thing other than static).
Vodafone should re-imburse its customers and release ALL paid contracts as they have NOT provided a professional (or quality) service. ACCC.....why are you asleep on this?????????????????????????????????????????????????
I used to believe in "loyalty"....not any more. Thanks Vodafone.

I think Vodafone are the worst company I have ever had to deal with. I have used them in England and in Australia and both times they had no customer service skills and spoke to me like a piece of dirt. Every time I have to call them I am on hold for around an hour, and then I speak to someone who I cannot understand. It took them over a week to activate my pay as you go sim card as they messed up. No apologies or anything, I will never ever use them again and urge everyone I know who is buying a phone to stay far away from Vodafail!!

No service on my Vodafone Mobile Broadband Card. When there WAS service it dropped out every 5 seconds and i had to log back in. OVER AND OVER AND OVER!! No response when I called to complain. Felt like the complaints line was purposely ignored in hopes that I'd GO AWAY! Left on hold for ages, costing me $1/minute on a prepaid mobile card. Second class customer, because I have NO Vodafone Mobile #(My PHONE is with Virgin, Thank God) and their service number demands your Vodafone Mobile # BEFORE they'll attempt to help you. Answered by this smarmy 'LARA' voice that drops you out without satisfaction to your problem. I had to GO to a Vodafone store for help... even THEY spent 30 minutes on the phone to their OWN headquarters before someone answered! Demanded a payout figure for my (non contracted) service... PAID it on the spot and got an invoice three weeks later insisting I OWED them the $16 CREDIT that THEY owed me. Received additional invoices and SMS's DEMANDING payment of a $16 CREDIT! Had to call AGAIN to get the $16 refunded to me... HAVEN"T SEEN it YET! THEY SUCK! THEY SUCK! THEY SUCK! I HATE THEM! I'D RATHER STICK PINS IN MY EYES THAN TO EVER HAVE TO DEAL WITH THEM AGAIN. I WOULDN'T P**S IN THEIR EAR IF THEIR BRAIN WAS ON FIRE!

5795 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is continuously failing at 28 Dec 2010 05:34:38 AM
I have been with Vodafone for a little over 2 years after being assured by them that they had a better phone coverage than Optus. I spent long periods of time trying to have my service dropout problems resolved but each time it was the same story - "you have total coverage in those areas (?") I changed settings in my phone with the assistance of a service person at Vodafone and then after the first 12 - 13 months of my contract I was advised it must be the phone handset causing the issue and at that point the phone was out of warranty and therefore my problem as it was a Nokia issue. NOkia of course referred me back to my carrier and I was on the "roundabout". When my contract was up I was assured (by Vodafone - funny how easy it is to get on to the "renew your contract" people) that a new phone would assist in the service not dropping out etc. I therefore signed up for a new 24 month plan with a new phone and now find that it is even worse than before with random dropouts and disconnections. I have managed to contact the complaints dept who put me through to the "technical department" who got me to take out my battery and sim card and clean the dust off them!. Of course at the time of speaking to them I had service, even though it was minimal. I find when you can contact them there is never any resolution to the continual dropouts.

I was almost out of the contract, but then they asked for the iPhone back. I asked for the $240 I paid upfront for the phone but they did'nt want to budge. Vodafone were willing to give me the phone and weave 50% of the exit fee.

I explained to them, how can you charge me 50% of the exit fee when you are breaching contract by not providing me a service, they said we cant just give you a phone. I said to Vodafone, I dont even want the phone, I even offered them $120 for the phone they still would'nt budge, so basically just going around in circles.

I now have a case with the TIO so waiting on their respone and have also submitted interest with Piper Alderman who are handling the class action case.

I signed up one month before moving to an area with no service at all despite coverage maps showing coverage. I was unaware that I possibly could have got out of the contract back then and now it only has 2 months to go.
Not only do I have no coverage, I haven't been able to access my online bills for 12 months since changing ISP's. I have continued to pay my cheap ($10pm) plan because I get $130 credit each month and it's useful when away from home. I was told I could get out of my plan once I finally complained to TIO but who would want to give up $10 giving you $130pm calls and sms's. I would love to be able to use my plan all the time. I'd also love to be able to see my bills. Surely paper bills could have been arranged when they realised I had this problem.
I also recently purchased Vodafone (Crazy John) mobile braodband for times I'm in Canberra and Sydney (useless at home)only to find even in Sydney the reception is terrible. I'm now having to use my daughter's internet as the Vodafone mobile internet is too unreliable. I should have learned my lesson by now.
I've gone to the class action site to register but think I need a slap upside the head for being silly enough to choose Vodafone again.

Wireless Internet is very poor. I was duped at the shop when told the area I live in had excellent reception so I signed up for 24mths. Once home the Dongle didnt even work and took me 3 days for a " technician " to go through the steps with me. This didnt work either so I went back to the shop and was told they cant help me and I was to phone the helpline. Great.
Eventually I was connected but still suffer from bad connection speeds and dropouts. Some days I cant connect at all.
28 Dec 2010 08:26:31 AM: I had the same experience in Broadbeach, Qld -4218. Constant problems with the dongle. Took it back to the "Vodafone" branded shop in Oasis centre where I bought it. Was told they were "just a franchise" and could not help, funny how they never said that when they took my money in the first place. They said I should call the helpline or take dongle to the "proper" Vodafone shop in Pacific Fair. First I called the helpline, who of course couldn't help. Took dongle to Pac Fair where an "expert" altered so many settings in my computer that nothing else worked when I got home either. Took my computer to a local "geek squad", they said Vodafone had stuffed the settings. Went back to Pac Fair but of course they refused to refund the 50 bucks it cost me for the geeks. Vodafone is a shit company, happy to take your money and couldn't care less about providing anything back. I'll try Telstra, but who knows if they'll be any better - compared to USA and Europe, mobile telecomms service standards in Australia are a joke and the government does zip.
28 Dec 2010 10:10:35 AM: I was duped at Pacific Fair too. BIG VODAFONE signs everywhere, but they don't seem to have ANY pull with the ACTUAL VODAFONE when it comes to problems or questions. The store in Pacific Fair won't even answer the phone when it's ringing under their nose. I SAT THERE and WATCHED them ignore it! For half an hour! They're NOT INTERESTED in your problems, they ONLY WANT YOUR MONEY! Big smiles to new customers, existing customers can go and get stuffed, we've already GOT you in a contract, and if you try and break free or default on your payments, WE'LL JUST DEFAULT 'YOU' ON THE CRA FOR FIVE YEARS!!! This is how they flog us into line, like good little slaves/milk cows. HATE 'EM
29 Dec 2010 07:34:57 AM: I had a same problem, luckily mine was a post paid but no lockin contract. got rid of them and went to another carrier using the Optus wireless network. Similar problem at home. got rid of wireless internet and went back to ADSL.

I am constantly "roaming" and if I'm not using WiFi (home and office) my 3G coverage is about as slow as a dial-up 56k connection - if I even get 3G.

My partner is with Telstra and her identical phone is amazing..... even in basement carparks she still gets good reception versus me who as soon as I walk inside my phones reception seems to fall apart.

Switching from WiFi to 3G lately I have had to reboot my phone on more than one occasion for it to work.....

Voda this is unacceptable and had I known what I know now I would never had joined the network.

Where do I start? I always blamed my reception in my house on the roof, as many others have already said, wandering outside to make a call/get 3g coverage was my only option. Then my friend walks in with a different network/same phone combination, and it's like trying to tell him the tooth fairy is my wife.

Dec 11, walked into VF store as I had "NO COVERAGE", three steps away from the counter I was told to "read the sign", an a4 piece of paper notifying meof what I already knew...the network was down.

Since that day not even walking outside solves my problems, drop-outs, no service, sluggish phone.

What to do? My old-man always suggested to vote with your feet...

I've had a Vodafone prepaid mobile broadband for about five months now.
When I was planning to purchase mobile broadband I was advised to buy the Telstra version as the 3g coverage was superior to its competitors. Having had previous problems with the telstra unit I did some research on the Vodafone unit. I was assured by Vodafone that my address was well within the coverage area and as I live upon a hill that the signal would be fine.
However when I purchased the product and hooked it up I found that there was no signal at all. I have had to move my pc all around the house in order to even find a signal. Once i found a good signal Ive had to set my pc up in the kitchen, where the signal is the strongest, however the problem is that the signal drops out every 5 minutes or so.all day everyday. Max connection time is about 5- 15 min. Also with my prepaid mobile broadband deal im supposed to get 50 free sms, however the sms feature has never worked. Ive uninstalled the program numerous times and reinstalled it. All with no change. If I try to send an sms I get an error msg. The prepaid mobile broadband costs me $30 for 2gb and 50 free sms.

I don't think I've ever owned an electronic product of any kind that has worked 100% perfect 100% of the time....!

If we look at Xbox 360 "red ring of death" mess, at one point, up to 68 out of 100 were defective and required repair or exchanging with Microsoft directly through a mail-in service, leaving you without your $700 brand new purchase for up to months at a time!!!

Microsoft originally stated that there failure rate was withing the accepted industry standard of 3%-5% as this was later to be found untrue they are still under investigation for it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_technical_problems

All up we are looking at around 10,000 complaints here, and there is about 4 million contract customers, plus how ever many pre-pay.
What we are seeing here is about a quarter of a percent, well below 3%.

At 3% 120 thousand customers phones could all stuff up and it would be within standard.

The ACCC are apparently investigating but I don't see much coming from it, TELSTRA alone have on average 5 times the complaints on here every single year!

I'm Just Sayin!

28 Dec 2010 05:08:38 AM: my phone works in the CBD of sydney was using it there last tuesday, worked at the airport, working belco to tuggeranong, the only place i haven't had reception is a tiny bit in mawson, which has been like that for ages, and always figured it was just a black spot anyways, but there's heaps of places people here have been talking about not working where it works perfectly fine for me, doesn't matter if i'm sending txt, calling, or checking out FB!
28 Dec 2010 05:24:08 AM: Not too sure where the notion of 10,000 complaints all up comes from. Adam started this site less than 16 days ago and it averages about 350 new pains each day. Using that calculation, the word of mouth, news feeds and other media sources, it is heading, on an annual basis to 130,000 pains, possibly more.
28 Dec 2010 05:54:24 AM: if you look at the top of this page it has an amount of comments broken up state by state and other, it add's up to about 10,000ish I did point out that there were 4 million contract customers, plus all the prepaid, which hasn't been taken into account.

Either way all companies that provide electronic products and services have a percentage of customers that experience issues with product delivery.

There will always be something wrong or not working for a small amount of customers, and what has been represented so far is less than or at most on par with what is already accepted as a reasonable and realistic amount of failure.

Any mobile phone service provider anywhere in the world can possibly face these issues, even TELSTRA, it just depends whats going on at the time, OPTUS had lots
of similar problems several months ago, AT&T had millions of customers affected last year with all sorts of capacity problems, and it takes time to fix it.

If you read your contract agreements that you have signed for, the is a perfectly reasonable and realistic clause that due to network restrictions, maintenance or issues that you may be without use of your phone for periods of time and it should not be used as a single form of communication, and this is really cause nothing works perfect.

28 Dec 2010 06:32:29 AM: Thanks for the clarity. I thought the Everywhere total was the sum of all the complaints received so far and that is what I based my figures on, so now I can revise those figures to double what I originally said. Agree some electrical products do experience issues but I always keep the original Proof of Purchase docket as I understand nearly all electrical products come with a guarantee of fit for purpose usually for a year, unlike Vodafone which appears to guarantee nothing may work. Is AT &T is Oz? I would also be very interested how you define reasonable, I am aware of Vodafone's definition that they (Vodafone)use but I would be interested in your notion.
28 Dec 2010 07:02:20 AM: Apologies if the numbers at the top aren't clear. 'Everywhere' is the sum of all the states and 'somewhere else'. So the number you see next to Everywhere is the total number of complaints. Additionally, I don't think everyone that has had a problem with their service will visit this website so there are likely many more people. Thanks - Vodafail.
28 Dec 2010 07:02:45 AM: The notion is that "things just break down sometimes", coverage issues and related problems are an ongoing issue across the industry throughout the world, no AT&T and it's issues weren't in Australia, but it is an example of a commonly fraught problem for network providers
28 Dec 2010 07:15:09 AM: So it is probably safe to say that AT &T's issues are irrelevant, different country, unknown infrastructure etc etc. How about the notion that Vodafone misled current and new customers about the viability and voracity of their network and only when complaints went exponentially through the roof did they admit that there were Vodafone network issues?
28 Dec 2010 07:23:00 AM: It is true that many phone companies have had problems with the event of high powered Iphone and Android devices flooding the market by being offered cheaper and cheaper out of corporate greed! :-(
28 Dec 2010 10:16:19 AM: Hey 'I'm Just Sayin'' what kind of idiot are you? Do you WORK for these THEIVES? Are you in collusion with them? Why are you sticking up for them? Are you SO BLIND that you can't see that this is HUST THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG? These are just the complaints that have come in SO FAR! AND the fact that FIVE MORE PAGES HAVE FILLED UP WITH COMPLAINTS IN THE LAST THREE HOURS... is testimony to the fact that the common man has JUST FOUND A VOICE FOR HIS COMPLAINTS! Mark my words..... this site will fill to overflowing, because this SCAM has been UNCOVERED AND EXPOSED and AUSTRALIA WILL HAVE IT'S SAY!
28 Dec 2010 10:19:40 AM: in fact... I can't even finish my post because the page is updating so rapidly with disgruntled customers, that I keep losing my place! SPEAK UP AUSTRALIA! EAT THESE THIEVES AND SPIT OUT THE LITTLE PIECES. MAKE ROOM FOR AN HONEST MARKET, WITH HONEST PARTICIPANTS AND STOP SETTLING FOR SECOND BEST!
28 Dec 2010 10:22:45 AM: I posted this morning at 7:30 at around number 5,800... look how many have come on board since then. This is a snowball down a mountain. This thing will avalanche!
28 Dec 2010 03:54:40 PM: i actually work for the OPTUS network team and we had stacks of these problems, our network upgrade team could not keep up with their targets, as our consultants were smashing targets in the yes shops and dealers! it took us about 6 months to get up to speed again and to launch our open network, it's all working perfectly now, go into a yes shop and sign for a plan at OPTUS if you need your phone to work now, otherwise if its anything like what we faced they are prolly only about halfway through fixing it.

We'll all go through it again when 4G rolls out!
28 Dec 2010 10:36:17 PM: ^ ^
exactly. no company is perfect and as the last person said - EVERYONE has problems at one point or another. i have been with 3 different providers and have had problems with each of them. i was in a vodafone store today and people are complaining left right and centre because the heard vodafone are shit. all i have to say is that i never had any service with 3 at my place and with voda i do.

5764 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Very poor at 28 Dec 2010 05:01:14 AM
I took a package deal with mobile phone and nett.My phone drops out on the odd occassion but my net just doesn't last long at all when I have logged on. I have poor reception where I live and it is a local suburb of Adelaide. My signal strengh is Zero to one bar abd even after 15 calls in as many weeks I still have no internet that I can rely on. After many calls and promisses of it being fix they then told me there working on the problem. I went and bought an external antenna which at the location I bought it improved my recieption. Got home and it didnt change a thing. After many hours of running between Voda Fone shop and phone calls I still have little to know internet. When I asked about getting out of the plan I was told that because there looking into the problem they wouldnt waver the disconnection fees. So I am in limbo. Just have to keep putting up with the bad service.

5763 Someone from Somewhere else thinks vodafone is Very Fail at 28 Dec 2010 04:58:00 AM
I was a long standing Vodafail customer in NZ. About 3 years ago they changed their system and according to them 'I fell off it'. It took me 4 days, yes, FOUR DAYS of constant telephone attempts before I could speak with an operator. It seems they had two files for my account, which caused chaos, and cause me much stress and disruption as it was a business phone/contract. Eventually they agreed to pay me NZ$200 compensation. I took the money and vowed never ever to have anything to do with them ever again. I'm now in the UK and it seems that Vodafail have invested heavily not on their communication systems, but on designing ways to avoid taxes using off-shore bases. What a horrible horrible outfit so 'well done' to your guys for setting up this site.

5762 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Poor Reception at 28 Dec 2010 04:57:56 AM
At last somewhere to voice your frustration. I've been a customer of Vodaphone for some years. Why - well for me their plan(s) are the right match, but the downside is very very poor reception. I live on the far south coast of NSW and it is only in a few places that I will get good reception. I even have to go from one end of the house to the other in order to make or receive a call and then have to have the mobile phone at the right angle to catch the signal. I have called Vodaphone and their response is we have no current plans to boost coverage in your area. In this day and age, thats really not good enough. Vodafail is a great tag. Good on you for coming up with it. I hope that this site puts the wind in Vodaphones sail and gets them actively supporting service. Thanks.

5761 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Crazy John/Vodafone at 28 Dec 2010 04:56:15 AM
I was using vodafone broadband internet (mobile). About June this year I started experiencing drop outs and couldn't reconnect. I then called customer service. This happened about 10 times before I got an Egyptian call centre who recommended that I return the modem for a refund! They gave up helping.
I then joined Crazy John. I was unaware that these guys used the Vodafone network. This time it was worse as I got a phone contract aswell. BIG MISTAKE! The problems started right away. 50 calls to custimer service and hundred of drop out or no coverage later Crazy John vodafone called me on Christams Eve admitting that I was in a Low Coverage area (postcode 3041) AND I was being rleased from my contract!! AVOID VODAFONE AVOID CRAZY JOHN. I was so angry that I passed a vodafone store full of people and yelled in there "Don't do it, don't join. These guys a liars and they provide S#!* service!" People actually walked out!

Vodafone bussines customer for past 8 years. Network is worst than ever.
Wish Vodafone would redirect their massive advertising budget from high profile sports to decent infrastructure, they have their priorities wrong. It is their loyal customer base that gives them profitability.

5759 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is terrible at 28 Dec 2010 04:53:49 AM
Where do i start, constant drop outs, same SMS messages being sent out up to 6 times and being charge fo all of them, people not able to get through missing out on casual work because of it, go on a phone plan and have to buy a new phone after 12 mths because the initial one goes faulty and as it is a 24 mth plan i don;t get a new free phone, Look after you customers instead of ploughing money into the Aust Cricket team.Oh ia ma with 3 but soon if you are with 3 your locked phone will be no goo..and guess what...you have to BUY a new one
28 Dec 2010 10:01:29 AM: Not true... I have a 3 MOBILE MOTOROLA RAZR3 and I had it unlocked at a phone accessories booth in a shopping centre. Anyone with a laptop and the right program can fritz out a locked phone and it leaves all you phone numbers in place. Don't be enslaved to these mongrels! Take back you freedom!

5758 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Crapola!!!!! at 28 Dec 2010 04:53:27 AM
I recently transferred to vodafone and soon learned I can't send or receive txt messages oe make phone calls from my study due to bad service. I have since discovered I can add the dining room, baby's room and back deck to the list. We live in a tiny 3 bedroom house so that's about half the house where reception is crap. When I was with optus I had no problems with service.. We live in canberra for Christ sake! Oh and it also takes about 24 hours for my friends to receive a picture mms from me. Vodafone SUCK and I can't believe they're still in business.

when we left Sydney for Culburra Beach, Optus did not enforce our Sydney contract and were ethical but Vodafone insisted on our three phone contracts even though reception is poor and on windy days impossible, even the Vodafone shop employees in Nowra admitted reception was poor to the east of Nowra at Culburra Beach,--we now look forward to getting rid of vodafone for good shortly. dr.htb

5756 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Very at 28 Dec 2010 04:48:49 AM
I have been using vodafone for about 5 or 6 months now and i have come to realise making the switch to them was not the best idea. I made the switch because of their great cap plans and good deals in which they offered, not realising, the coverage they had was very poor. Since I have switched to them, I would say it has been at least once a week where the signal would cut out for at least a few hours. I know it is not just my phone because I have friends within the same town that have experienced the same thing at the same point in time. I am also becoming annoyed at the usage of the internet on my phone and the either slow speeds, "timing out" or "no response" messages I keep receiving when using the feature quite regularly. If I am keeping to the contract, then why aren't they, by supplying me with a problem free and consistent service signal?

5754 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is amazing fail on the android 2.2 update at 28 Dec 2010 04:46:05 AM
okay, i was in sydney on holiday and i had bad reception. on top of that, my phone barely works after the upgrade to android 2.2
28 Dec 2010 04:56:53 AM: Their 'up grade' in NZ turned out to be a downgrade for me, and many many others. There were so many complaints it took customers days to get through to them to report problems. They are so sharp to answer calls when trying to sell their contracts, but when things go wrong vodafail are almost non-existant.

5753 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is 90% at 28 Dec 2010 04:45:36 AM
I've been a 3 customer ever since they started up here in Australia and, after the amalgamation of the 3 Hutchison and Vodafone companies, I pretty much assumed the coverage would be as superior as 3's - Boy was I wrong. I started a contract on the new Xperia X10 with Vodafone only to find that my phone likes to randomly switch itself on and then off - This can happen a dozen times, one after the other or until I take out the battery. I called for tech support on their Customer Hotline and instead of talking with Vodafone they patch me straight through to Sony Ericsson's Tech Support, who then tell me that I need to call Vodafone. After this happening several times I ended up wandering over to a Vodafone store and they tell me that I need to call Vodafone. Heh. I have a contract with Vodafone and paying for phone insurance YET instead of helping me with an issue THEY need to resolve I get palmed off to another company who have no idea why I'm calling them.

The issue with coverage is a joke. Most of my mothly cap goes towards romaing data charges, who cares if I'm on an unlimited plan. I have to worry about being charged 20 odd cents per MB of data that isn't included in the plan. I live in an inner city suburb and at home I'm always roaming. I can rarely send or receive MMS' and the call quality is disgusting, with occassional drop outs, due to the reception clicking in and out of 3G - Sometimes I have no reception at all, but this isn't a major issue with me. I still have my 3 phone, thank God, and I tend to gravitate towards that most of the time.

Final summation: Don't get sucked in to their awesome plans! When it's too good to be true, it almost always is.

~ Ciaran, Brisbane

Absolutely tatty .. i moved from three because off the call drop outs. Little did I know that I was moving to a far inferior network. Shocking Data. Continuous call drop outs. Sometimes I cannot make any calls. This is used for business and a lot of the time I cannot conduct business.

Phone drops out all the time, I live in Newcastle, they debited my account twice for the same bill and despite countless emails and phone calls to vodafone over the last three months (in which they said they would rectify the problem I hear nothing) my contract is up shortly and I'll be giving them the shove. Their customer service sucks!

5749 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Atrocious at 28 Dec 2010 04:29:21 AM
I spent two hours, 3 weeks ago, in a Vodafone store in Chatswood with a very helpful customer service guy(thanks Gareth). I was there due to the ongoing appalling level of reception in metro Sydney and the fact that I could no longer send emails from my iPhone 3GS. He spent two hours on the phone with his own fellow Vodafone staff, knowing the very best way to short cut the usual call centre traps and delays and he still got absolutely nowhere!!! I am totally reliant upon my ability to send email from my mobile. I run 3 different business email accounts from that phone and now I can't trust the email service at all. What is most concerning.....and I'm sure is being experienced by many other Vodafone customers is that when you send an email from your mobile, it actually appears in your "Sent Box" as s sent message. The scary thing is that your email NEVER arrives to the intended receiver. You believe you have sent an email, but it NEVER ACTUALLY ARRIVES!!!
This is incredibly frustating and that's before I even get onto the shocking call drop out rate I have been experiencing over the last 3 months. I live in Balmain, 5 minutes from the largest CBD in the country and I can't hold on to a call. I can also identify a minimum of 3 dead spots or drop out zones (guaranteed to fail) in a 5km drive from Balmain to Sydney CBD. How much of a joke can this be??

I have been a very loyal fan of the Vodafone brand for over 15 years, but I am now reaching breaking point. I am doing my best to avoid going to Telstra and would never consider Optus. Vodafone.....your time is running out FAST.

5748 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Biggest Fail at 28 Dec 2010 04:17:51 AM
Vodafone contacted me to say my contract on 2 phones was up for renewel. So I went ahead with this. My phone was meant to be a $79 cap 2 yrs unlimited with a new Iphone mobile. My wifes was meant to be a $49 cap 2 yrs plus $5 for the new galaxy mobile. My wife got the new mobile but vodafone put her on the $79 cap. I got nothing, no new contract no new mobile. Now they are billing me for my wifes $79 plan, rang and said I didnt want that make it the $49 plan. I asked why my new contract hasnt started and why I didnt get the new Iphone. They told me there were no record of the new contract and if you wanted the iphone you would not be able to get it unless you went to the shop and went on a waiting list. They have sent me a bill for over $500.00 in which I refuse to pay. I actually talked to a lady on the Phone about getting these 2 new contracts and phones and she put me on a recording through Vodafone so that it would be legit. They say there is no recording. Dont know what to do.
