26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

Im currently with 3 mobile broadband, i have been for the past 3 years, since the merge with vodafone my connection is shocking, it's slow, drops out, theres no one to help. Do i have a case as well. Im tempted to swap to optus.
28 Dec 2010 11:20:53 AM: You do have a case, as 3 neglected to inform their customers that they were being brought out by Vodafone. Fun part of the story: Vodafone use Optus towers. So switching to Optus will literally do nothing for you.
Honestly your only way to get decent reception is Telstra, but they overcharge to the shit because they know they have the best reception. You'll ALWAYS have mobile & internet coverage, but your bills will be double the price for half the benefits (free texts, calls, etc).

3642 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Blocking vodaphone numbers at 27 Dec 2010 04:25:29 PM
I recently had my number with vodaphone and changed to it a another network. On changing it over ended up that everyone on Vodaphone could no longer call me, even though I could call them. After sitting on the vodaphone help line for over an hour to try and get this sorted I was told I needed a vodaphone friend to ring through which I thought was pretty unfair to then make them wait an hour for an issue not their fault. why inconvience my friends for an issue that isn't their fault?

3641 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Slow 3G wireless at 27 Dec 2010 04:25:27 PM
I live in Nth Illawarra, for the last 10 weeks the Vodaphone 3g wireless broadband has been very slow. From the exact same position in my house the signal strength varies so much from "very poor" to "very good" but averages "poor." Consequently using the Internet is usually SLOW. A month ago I found it impossible to make a phone call complaint to them, so I emailed them. A Dirk emailed back and said to call them and that my email complaint status was "resolved." Wrote back to Dirk and said it was not resolved and to answer my email, instead another direction to ring them, What a ruse to piss off legitimate complaining customers. After this I actually got thru and logged my complaint, never heard from them again since (well over 3 weeks ago). Extremely poor customer service, am seriously considering sending a letter to Vodaphone soon saying they are in breach of contract and I will not pay my monthly installment. So glad Vodaphone are receiving so much bad publicity, I will never recommend them, crap 3 G wireless broadband and even crappier (non-existant) customer complaint handling. What makes me even madder is they spend big money sponsering V8 Supercars and the cricket - how about spending it on delivering its contracted serice reliably and not so slow.
29 Dec 2010 10:09:31 AM: Interested in chatting to Vodafone customers in the Illawarra for a story in the Illawarra Mercury. If you'd like to help out, email Matt at mjones@illawarramercury.com.au. Thanks.

Me and my partner are with 3 (vodafone) and our coverage is the worst i have ever experienced. We will stand in one spot and the coverage will drop in and out constantly, we were told we would get coverage at our house but it is very poor. We have tried calling customer service and explaining our situation but they put us on hold and inevitably the phone drops out because of the poor coverage. We cant make phone calls and have a conversation with anyone because the phone drops out and we find that really fustrating when you are running a business. We will be changing provider when our contract ends.

27 Dec 2010 04:33:34 PM: I had similar problems getting a new Nokia N8 also, but persistence and patience finally paid off, and i do like the new Nokia N8, and Three have always provided excellent coverage to Brisbane metro and the Sunshine Coast, which is all i ever wanted. I now can have cheap calls to my partner, and friends on Three and Voda, but i'm so glad i didn't make the switch to Voda. Three has a better name then Vodaphone anyway, they look after their customers. Bit like the Great Optus Debacle, but don't get me started on that ... because i am NEVER GOING NEAR THEM AGAIN !

Mount Annan NSW dropouts loss of signal strength all the time every day. Since the merge with 3 it has increased. After 2 hours on hold speaking with different sections I was asked if I wanted to cancel. In the end the contract was cancelled because of their inability to provide the service as contracted.

Hello There

I became a Vodafone Customer around MAy/June this year 2010 With a number of calls to try to get our "Free" Internet wireless internet s stick to work it took from Ma/June till around October before they said we could even cancel our contract also to make matters worse we called Vodafone multiple times to get our "first" bill sent out to us and we even tried to get the online bill to show up and yet we still have not EVER received a bill and we more then likely owe more then $5,000 dollars for two phones which i think is ridiculous we will have to pay this once the bill does come its not our fault that vodafone is run buy a usless CEO who cant even get the bills sent out!

Also i do have to say i that in the 6months i have had my phone my wireless internet ALWAYS drops out and will not work at ALL and when i am on the phone it will drop out and my partners phone will have reception but it wont take incoming calls and any messages he gets are delayed by HOURS. VERY ANGRY AND OUTRAGED BY VODAFONE And will happily take legal action against Vodafone for false offer, lack or service and reception!

i have a blackberry storm that is supposed to offer great things, but saddly vodafone does not supply a quality service.
prior to the 3g changeover the service was bearable, but it has gone backwards since then.
i pay $69 a month, plus $10 for data. but it's just a hit and a miss. if i send a text to my wife(who is also on vodafone), in the morning, 9 times out of 10 the message arrives in the afternoon.
the service is nothing short of a joke.

Im a local business owner on the central coast NSW Australia who needs phone to work.
I have multiple call drop outs daily, 3G does not work at all. Other data is super slow.

I was advised by Vodaphone customer service to sim swap, did that, got 2 new handsets and the issues still remains.

All the above issues and Im trying to run a business with no or very poor telecommunication. Vodaphone customer service would not cooperate and there offer was $100 credit towards my bill.

My issue have been ongoing for in excess of 6 months. $100 does not cut it.....

Well i am a customer of Voda threw mobile and internet, I have made several complaints about my internet service to many of their customer team members and they still refuse to do anything about making myself as a customer a satisfied person, only reason i am still with them is cause i am on a contract and i deff will not continue with this company after my contract has ceased.
When i 1st applied for the internet i asked the customer service member what the reception would be like in the area which i live and she replied me excellent and u will be very satisfied, little did i know that was a very un true answer and i have had nothn but poor 2 very poor service since being on the vodaphone contract..Great site 2 complain cause there is no real point in callin them cause not only dont they listen but they dont do anything to make the customer happy and want to stay with them, but quite often i have had the vodaphone team member close the call on me...I HATE VODAPHONE and i can not wait till my contract is over...Thanx!!!

I changed from Vodafone to Optus more than 2 years ago because of continual drop outs on Vodafone's network coverage and voice mail messages continually not being received until the following day particlarly on Friday afternoons.

3622 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Ate Their own words at 27 Dec 2010 04:24:29 PM
After months of cold calls from the tele giant, they finally got hold of me to upgrade to a iPhone. I said why not it's for free but on a 99cap (business mind you). Excited to get the phone I had excessive dropouts and bad data transfer rates. After days of complaints, I screamed my brains out to the operator to speak to the managing supervisor. They tried to tell me the network has trouble supporting that phones frequency. ( What The? You offered me the upgrade). Eventually I threatened to take them to consumer affairs and they waived the disconnection and fee and gave me the option to return the phone (DID I... Nop) Im with optus now
And I'm happy as Larry. Not only that vodafone are still sending me bills that I'm in $300 credit even though I disconnected a year ago. Worst Service Ever. Eat Shit Vodafone!!!

I have been with vodafone for 3yrs on a 1x mob ph & internet contract plus 2x mob ph on prepaid contract, experiencing the same poor customer services everyone else at times when I point out to vodafone the poor quality of service I was recieving. I had to be patient with their mannerism of handling the complaints in a non professional manner but always the no solution provided or being compensate for the loss of business. I am coming up to the end of my contract in June 2011 and will not be resigning with this corporation.

3619 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Pathetic at 27 Dec 2010 04:24:24 PM
Constant drop out in signal within the Sydney Metropolitan Area, mainly in areas from around Leichhardt to Strathfield. I travel this route to and from work everyday, I constantly experience a loss in signal and have to turn my iphone off and back on again to re-gain the signal. I have informed Vodafone of this probelm, I even managed to get ahold of a tech and he is aware of the problem, which exists for thousands of vodafone customers in the Sydney metro area, and Vodafone will apparently look into it. I also enquired about ungrading my iphone to a new iphone 4, and have been informed by several Vodafone customer service team members that in order to upgrade my iphone (which other carriers do for free), that i would have to cancel my current contract, pay out the difference and then sign up to a new contract.... what a rort that is!! No thanks.

I received a letter from debt collectors saying I owed Vodafone money for an account I never knew I had. It took over 3 months and god only knows how many calls to get through to Vodafone. As far as I was able to find out, it was a computer problem that made another account when I resigned up to my mobile broadband plan. In the end Vodafone sent me a letter informing me that my name was used in fraud and that I didn't own them anything. They never gave me anything for the pain I went through with the debt collectors (they had hired) and with Vodafone. If anyone wishes to resign up with Vodafone, do it in store!!!

I signed up for Vodafone telling them I lived in Geelong. I was told the coverage there was very good, but when I tried to surf the web, the signal said "POOR". You would think I have dial up with the SLOW speed it took to download a page.
I then moved to Ballarat to find there was NO signal at all. I went to a Voadafone store in Geelong to explain the issue, but all I got was "I don't know, can't help you" Not helpful at all. I'm not happy and can't wait for my contract to run out so I can got to another carrier!!!!!!!!!!

3606 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Severe! at 27 Dec 2010 04:23:36 PM
My phone is fine but my internet is TERRIBLE!

I log in and within about a minute it drops out. I log back in and it's not long that it drops out again. I was told I had great coverage but even when I log on it usualy says the connection is 'poor' and even 'very poor'. Oh my GOD - it just dropped out while I was typing this!

I sent an email enquiry regarding this to vodafone and I received a reply approximately a week later saying they assumed, given the time frame, that I had probably resolved the problem myself and to reply to the email only if I was still having troubles!

Reply I did - I expressed my shock that they would assume their customers would solve their connections problems themselves. I also told them that the only solution I'd come up with myself was to change internet providers! I received a reply apologising and promising 2 months free internet and a cr on my account. Well..I recently received the bill...there was no cr and no 2 months free.

My internet just dropped out AGAIN! Oh ...and again! I better send this before it goes again!

This is really frustrating. I am with Three, which unfortuantely now Vodafone owns. In my home, my mobile is always in roaming (Vodafone) signal, and i am charged roaming data because of Vodafone and Three still being treated as seperate.
The worst thing is, for last week or so, my phone is always displaying " No Service" and "Emergency Call only".
So basically i am paying hundreds of dollars for emergency call only. (GREAT).

well, lets see. I can lose reception NEXT to a phone tower. I drop out of reception completely in the middle of calls (always in populated suburban areas where i should be getting full coverage). I have Vodafone Mobile Broadband. Is this included in the proposed legal action? I find it very difficult to get a signal, and when I do it continually goes off line. Most of the Vodafone offices have closed around Adelaide making it difficult to complain, and I am tired of talking to someone overseas to complain. Thanks

3593 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Bad reception at 27 Dec 2010 04:22:31 PM
Constantly have poor reception and internet connection. Phone drops out of reception and I can't make or receive phone calls. I work on call for a major hospital in outer Sydney which the drop out could cause a major issue. I have had to maintain my home line service so I can be contacted by work because I can't depend on my vodafone reception, so this is a added monthly cost for me. Internet connection poor, and recently couldn't get the internet to connect when I was in the middle of Sydney. I travelled to Mongolia a few months ago and the phone reception offer by the Mongolian telco was a 100% better than the service I get from Vodafone!!!!

trying to run a small 2 man buisness is hard enough but last month a long time customer rang me on my home phone after tracking me down through the white pages,
it took him 3 hours to find me. he was trying to call me on my vodafail mobile to give me some plumbing work that was worth about $2,000.00 to me and had been calling for days, getting recorded messages saying that the line was disconnected, no service , please check this number and the like.
he even gave me a print out of every call he'd made as it was logged on his computer.
what i'd like to know is how many times over the last 2 years has this happened without somebody trying to track me down, how much buisness have i lost! i feel like a fool for beliving these guys. shame on you vodafone, in 10 days my contract is up and i'll go to either optus or telstra but i'll allways be wondering how much i've lost by trusting me most precious buisness tool to vodafail for the past 2 years, shame on me, but more is the shame on you!

Since signing up for mobile plan 12 months ago i rarely can take or make a call from my own house. Reception around the Newcastle area is dismal at best especially considerind it is now 2010. Have wasted so much time and money trying to access voicemail just to be cutoff just as the msg starts to play and have to call again. Worst is I was told it would cost me $700 to get out of my contract. Glad there are so many more in the same position and that now something may be done about it.

I had to pay $100 to get them to reduce the cap to 49 but was only able to use phone when I went to work.I was a customer of theirs for a good 20 years. Was very disapointed with their response to my problem.

I signed up with vodafone due to their great plans.. Little did I know that they were FUCKEN RUBBISH!! No reception, or if there is, it drops out and doesn't come back unless I turn my phone off and on again. Also, i'd try and send a picture msg, or even a plain old text msg, and it won't be received until the next morning at about 3 o'clock!!! It's absolutely disgraceful, and enough is enough!!! I cancelled my contract with them in October, received a final bill, but guess what Vodafone- I had to wait for reception from you guys: you can wait for my fucken money...

Trying to change my address was also an effort- after saying the address, spelling it out to them very slowly, giving the postcode and state, THEY STILL FUCKED IT UP!!! 3rd time lucky, they finally get it right!!

Hope you go bust arseholes- NEVER AGAIN!!!

Can not call in many places around Melbourne and I have lost customers due to their voicemail system not notifying me when I had a voice mail come in. I was not told that I needed to call 121 and check my mail everyday. This is not what I paid for. I also believe I have been over charged for many calls when travelling round Australia because of roaming. Also heaps of drop out calls causing so much frustration, also they don't let you know when better deals come out with more Gigabyte download, which I believe is quite sneaky. Also I pay $114

3581 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is everything at 27 Dec 2010 04:21:49 PM
I joined vodafone for wireless broadbrand. The first month I took out was just shocking.. Just slow. It was running on dial up speed. I request to cancel the service and took me hours just to speak to a fucking indian who didnt know what they were talking about and kept transferring me to another area to another area. I eventually spoke to Vodafone in Australia (Tasmania) and they were helpful (better than the indians)
They've sent me a satchel to return the USB and for some reason they didnt get it. It was registered express post.
I spoke to the cancellation area and they've cancelled my contract but I am still getting bills for $XX. So I have to then ring up and wait for fucking hours to get a credit because they can see I have not even used a MB.

Where is it at now? Contract has been cancelled. I recieved a bill a few weeks ago and stated it was in credit. I havent got anything since and I hope it stays that way.

As you are all aware the commercial and advertising is all about making money and getting people to join. All the players who did this got paid who knows how much. But at the end of the day the service is just shocking.

I joined Sept. 2009 on a 2 year plan of 1gb monthly for $25.
Every month I was charged $30 and nobody in customer service (Cairo) could help, although in the Upgrade Dept. (Tasmania) they could tell me I was being overcharged.
In the end I upgraded to 3gb monthly for $30 as I was being charged for that amount anyway, it was a complete disaster and I cannot wait to change providers, also I was told before I joined I could get 3G, that was also a complete fabrication on Vodafone's part.
When I kept losing 3G I rang customer service and was told my area couldn't provide 3G and would have to use a system as slow as dial-up.
WILL NEVER USE VODAFONE AGAIN. Thank you, it is good to know I am not the only one. Jim Wright.

3571 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Very fail for mobile internet at 27 Dec 2010 04:21:03 PM
Fortunately I am out of this mess now and have Optus mobile internet and it works. That is why I am connected to the internet. My Vodafone mobile internet connection worked reasonably for the first six months of my two year contract. Then it got bad. I called and they told me it was because of my Norton Anti Virus. As I am not majorily IT savvy, I believed them.

A few months later, I had some time and I actually switched off my Norton and there was no change.

The crap ' I will work when I feel like' availability worsened over the next 6 months. It got to the stage where if often wouldn't even work FULL STOP. When it did 'work', it frequently cut out and it was never possible to have more than one webpage open at a time. I had to keep my mobile phone and other devices in another room to reduce its issues.

After more frustration, I was home on a TOIL day and I called vodafone again and was told that someone would call me back and let me know about the network coverage. Gee what a surprise, no call back.

Towards the end of my contract, I started getting calls from the salespeople (obviously trying to get me to sign up again). I told them about the issues and they made absolutely no effort to help me even though I had been paying $50 a month for internet that rarely worked.

It was at the stage where I would go and fill up the sink and wash a few dishes while waiting for the internet to change pages. What a joke, then it would usually cut out anyway.

I didn't bother trying a telecommunications ombudsman or others as I figured they would be dealing with millions of others but it would be good if there was better regulation in the industry.
I decided that I would just go and buy another internet service and pay for two until the end of my contract with vodafone as I really needed the Internet at home to study at night. I got the new Optus service, and I couldn't believe it, Optus worked, it didn't cut out, the speed was reasonable and I could have a few pages open at a time.

I was so angry with having been ripped off my vodafone. I went into the Vodafone store and asked to payout the rest of the my contract and they didn't want me to do it in the store. I had to raise my voice and complain loudly in front of the other customers to get it done. The guy calculated the amount and I paid out the rest of the contract.

A month or two later I got a letter from Vodafone telling me that I owed them $33 dollars, I didn't pay because I was so angry that I had done all the right things and then I got a letter from their debt collectors. Ha ha, what a joke, they were chasing me up for $33 and as far as I am concerned they owed me at least $700 for the time that the Internet didn't work (and that is being generous.

I paid it to get them out of my life. I will never have a contract with that company again. I may use prepaid vouchers on my phone periodically but definately no internet and no contracts.

I do feel sorry for their staff. It must be horrible working there.

3570 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is The worst company ever at 27 Dec 2010 04:21:03 PM
Last year I was without phone or internet coverage for 34 days!! And I lived in Dulwich Hill, about 10 mins from the city. I spent at least 16 hours on the phone (from various locations other than my home) trying to sort the issue out. Because I was under contract, vodaphone refused to let me go with another provider without paying a $760 exit fee (at this stage I had been with out service for about 25 days and I lived alone ). They finally released me from my contract on day 34 and I went with another provider. They then stuffed up the paper work and sent me a letter threatening legal action for breach of contract,...then when I called there was no record of the conversation that released me from my contract. It wasn't until I absolutely broke down that they transfered my call to Australia and it was sorted once and for all. The whole ordeal lasting over 2 months!!!

27 Dec 2010 04:31:32 PM: I experience the same problem and have been for a very long time. I am back in a contract with them because I was stupid enough to believe Vodafone that the coverage in my area will improve because they were taking over Three and also if I get a new handset, the coverage issues will resolve. Vodafone has taken over Three and I got a new handset - still the same problem.... actually worse. I have to sometimes turn my phone off and then put it back on to get coverage. I bought a $ 99 / 6G wifi stick with 3 months use limit for my laptop to use in country NSW at a town called Gunning while working there. It's about 1/2 hr west from Goulburn NSW and about a bit further in distance/time to Canberra ACT south. Vodafail coverage maps showed the area well in the "Total Coverage" area. It was on this information and assurances from the dealer that I purchased the stick from that it would deliver. Not only did it not work there at all, it hardly worked in Goulburn, a significantly major city center. It constantly dropped out there rendering any internet void. Vodafail took my money, assured me it would provide a service & did not deliver. There was still about 5.85G on the stick when the 3 months expired. Now I got a this wifi stick and I don't need it now that I'm back to my cable as the job in the country is complete. Thanks vodafail, it's got to be the easiest 100 bucks you made. I guess I & others could operate like you lot too. You know...like take your money FIRST to say....paint your Vodafail sign purple instead of red or just not do it at all... but where would we all be if we treated our customers like you do?

I've actually managed to get rescinded from my contract, but it took 2 months. They tried to sell my handset back to me but then gave me the wrong unlocking code twice and only left one more chance. They then waited right up until my bill was due to give me the code after I screamed at them. They just wanted their money before they helped out. My longest wait on line was 1 hour and 35 minutes and I still didnt get anyone and hung up. I've fought this fight since the 20/10/10 along with my wife's line, but each time you ring up you got someone different with a different view and opinion. From what I learnt the lady who handled my initial complaint actually left the company herself! Just not before resolving mine.
Anyway, we've now moved over to Telstra and Vodafone is trying to get $68.18 out of me for the phone which I returned and have the tracking number, and over $630 for my wife's which she also returned. They refuse to give us an email or anything in writing and now we dont get the freecall to them because we're with Vodafoone. My advice to everyone is stay on top of this class action and send your complaint to the TIO. Vodafone dont give one i-ota about us as customers, just money. Its a sinking ship and I'm disappointed massively after 10 years with them. They wont see me back regardless of the carrots they wave.

i signed up with crazy john who is a subsidiary of vodafone, chose the 'data' option for my $49 plan.

got home, phone polls between 2g and 3g so badly that calls CANNOT be maintained and quite often fail to come through at all (my friends told me often that my phone would say that i was out of coverage or some such nonsense)

so i figured out i can get semi stable signal if i turn off the 3g capabilities of my f**king smartphone which then renders the data useles.

complained to CJs about it and theyre like.....yea we dont care.
awesome.

in short, vodafone and its subsidiarys can all go f**k themselves.

also, my sister on 3 has similar problems relating to data as she cant use it due to the lack of vodafone signal.

3549 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is extremely at 27 Dec 2010 04:19:51 PM
I live on Bribie Island. On numerous occasions I have rung my son(also a Vodafone user) His phone rings through to voicemail but he never hears it ring. I was accusing him of not having his phone on, but have discovered after trying to ring him in the same room, that his phone just does not ring. He has also sent messages late at night after work so I could pick him up - I did not receive the messages until up to 3 hours later.

3547 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Broken Contact at 27 Dec 2010 04:19:44 PM
Aren't Vodafone the ones that have broken their contract to provide a phone service, which is currently, for me, non-existant, so surely we as users are at no obligation to pay unless Vodafone honour their agreement to provide a service.

Whenever i am moving and talking on the crappy Vodafone network (eg driving) and my phone swaps from one tower to the next i simply get cut off and the phone call cancelled. Then i have to call back and apologize to the caller that crappy Vodafone has hung up on them due to their lack of technical expertise. This happens consistently and regularly. When i am stationary and connected to the same tower it does not seem to happen. Vodafone is a joke how hard is it to transfer a call to the next tower
