Dear visitor,
Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant
contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced
by Vodafone customers.
Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders.
You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.
Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.
More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly.
Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints.
The site will remain online for as long as possible as a
reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.
It has been a privilege to run this initiative
and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In
particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their
continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.
You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.
Until next time,
Adam Brimo

21150 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Huge failure!! at 18 Mar 2012 11:15:01 PM
Just joined Vodafone, I mean vodafail from 3. I was told I have excellent coverage in my area prior to signing up. Well that was a big lie!! I have had dropped calls after dropped calls, extremely bad reception and zero reception in one room of my house. Well what a joke vodafail is. They are heavily advertising for new customers, but they can't even satisfy their existing customers. I have been with them for 3 months now, haven't paid a bill yet because I have complained... I'll be switching to another provider for sure! Thanks for letting me vent

A day in the real world of Vodafone. Burleigh Heads, Robina, Gold Coast Qld. Business customer with three mobile phones. First call, 7am, 15min call while mobile, 2 dropouts. 10am no network across two phones, with one on the 850mhz network, duration over 5min, over a 4 hour period. Received email 1:00pm from head office to ring a customer, normally receive sms as well, receive sms one hour later. 2pm receive call, other party can't hear me, call dropout. 3:30pm receive next call while driving, call dropouts 2 times. 4:00pm receive another call while still, another dropout. 6:00pm receive another call, call terminated due to voice quality. 6:30pm received old emails from an 18hr period, in one go.
At Home with Vodafones new stronger wifi2 850mhz Mobile broadband. Load time to load Google page 4min, tried to get on Vodafones website, to have a bitch with them, page wont load after 5 attempts.
So just what part of there investment are they using to improve the network, because, this sort of network problems happens across most of the Gold Coast. It even gets worst on a rainy day. LOL

Constant dropped calls, and SOS (emergency calls only) in lots of place. Was on the phone to the boyfriend, when I walked under a bridge signal dropped (?!), but came back after I passed the bridge. If they didn't have the cheapest iPhone 4S deal on the market, I would never have gone with them.

20871 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Very bad data at 15 Feb 2012 12:21:11 PM
I can accept the minor call dropout, but the data connection is so far and beyond, tested at the City central station at Sydney, 9k download and 4k upload (with full bar). sometime it wont even download any data. overall about 70 - 80% I getting no connection or very slow connect. So whoever out there got told by vodafone there is nothing wrong with they network, and maybe it is they sim card, it is certainly not. because in the M5 tunnel you can get about 1Mbps to 3Mbps+ or sometime 5Mbps connection. (tested). my guess is that Vodafone is shaping speed, can't see why you can get full bar connection and no getting any data. maybe they using the data for other customer who is on prepaid account??

I recently moved to vodaphone because vodaphone bought the 3 company that I was with in Australia Melbourne. From the very first day I was with Vodaphone I noticed the network coverage was significantly worse off than what I usually get previously. I have constant call dropouts on my new mobile phone the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the internet was really slow due to the Vodaphone network as well. Even at work, where I work right in the centre of the CBD, the vodaphone network is still really really slow. I cannot read my emails on the phone or anything.
I seriously regret not going to Telstra...
I seriously regret not going to Telstra...
15 Jan 2012 02:55:09 PM: Remembering, when in the CBD, you are competing with over 2mill other individuals using the exact same towers. Telstra and Optus have the same issues.
26 Jan 2012 08:35:32 AM: are you sure about that??? lol Ummmm no, i'm with Optus and rarely experience congestion on the Optus Network when i'm in the city. The internet runs extremely fast on my iPhone and i rarely experience call drop outs.
20571 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is ABSOLUTELY DISCUSTING at 10 Jan 2012 07:15:14 PM
I have been a vodafone customer for approx 5 months now and have had nothing but trouble. I have called vodafone numerous times and complained about the service, constant reception dropping out, Call dropouts, MMS issues (unable to send and receive), Internet just wont work keeps timing out. Each time they transfer me through to there technical department and ask me to do the same thing i.e. restart phone, clean simcard etc. This just does not work! I have clearly advised vodafone that this just does not fix any of my issues, they then decide to blame the fault on my handset. I have tried my simcard in numerous phones and still have the same problem. Today (10/1/2012) i spoke to male by the name of pratesh or ritesh who advised he couldnt find all the notes in my account? and advised due to the network issues he has to transfer me to the technical department Again, oh boy this is frustrating, I spoke to a male advised him of my issues and said he couldnt help me, i asked to speak with his supervisor, he asked me to hold and hung up on me. I am again trying to get a hold of vodafone and so far have been waiting 20 minutes and still havent been able to speak to anyone.
20483 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is beyond belief at 29 Dec 2011 08:05:45 AM
I live 10km from Parliament House in Canberra, yet my signal on the 3 network continually shows "Roaming". This is unacceptable coverage for Australia's national capital. Call dropouts occur seldomly though. My phone is a Nokia N97 mini, it is rebooted every month. Fortunately 5 months of my 3 contract remain and then I will switch to someone else.
29 Dec 2011 08:01:26 PM: ok, 3 network is different to vodafone network, the 3 company is different to Voda too, until they merge (which at this stage they have not yet, at least not in practical terms) the network is not the same.
its always roaming for you because three have a really incomplete network and when 3 customers cant get 3 reception they automatically roam onto telstra.
voda customers dont roam, they use only the voda network. I live in canberra and have no issues with the coverage, but know lots of people that have trouble with their 3 coverage, the same as you. Moving to Voda would stop the roaming thing, but being on this website im sure you know that comes with its own concerns

2 Jan 2012 03:47:09 PM: Thanks for your thoughtful comments. "Incomplete network" seems to fit in well with incomplete service from VF. Presently waiting to see when the shared 3 & Telstra network on 2100MHz dies and I soon expect to be approached by VF marketing droids offering deals to be moved over to VF.
8 Jan 2012 09:34:40 AM: 3 stoped roaming from Telstra early 2010. They only roam on Voda now :-)
4 Mar 2012 04:00:47 PM: Found out last week that 3's 2100MHz network that is shared with Telstra will stop working after 31 August 2012. Put that in your diaries!
20409 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is At least 65% FAIL at 23 Dec 2011 08:53:21 AM
I am one very frustrated individual. Since switching to Vodafone, I have had nothing but reception issues and dropped calls. Since I don't use a landline, I depend on my phone to contact and be contactable. In the Blacktown area where I live, in my home I cannot get more than one bar of reception on my phone, and that is if I am lucky. Usually there are no reception bars lit on my phone. If I am lucky enough to receive a call while at home, it will be distorted and marred by constant drop outs. What if there is an emergency? I would be stuffed.
I have spoken to Vodafone customer support about the issue at least on 10 different occasions, and each time I am told to be patient, that the Vodafone network is being upgraded in my area. Well, this has been on going on since at least April of 2011, and here it is almost 2012, I cannot reliably make a call from home. I am thinking now the only solution is to get out of the contract and go with another service provider.

I am new to Vodafone after my partner talked them up during the recent system upgrades media circus. However since connecting a new iPhone 4s two weeks ago I have had around 8 dropped calls and about 6 failed call attempts to the same number over a two day period. The closer it gets to Christmas I feel my sim is taking longer to connect to the Vodafone network at startup. Voice messages are turning up on the phone the day after they were sent. And forget about calling someone in a shopping centre if you see them wandering around on a different level, you may as well be on different planets! But if that leaves you wanting to vent you could always throw your phone at them... They will meet you at the escalator faster than redial!

20029 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Makes my blood boil - vodafone is criminal at 17 Nov 2011 03:13:42 PM
I have been a Vodafone customer for about 4 years. In that time, I have been consistently faced with the most incrediblly incompetent and infuriating service I have ever experienced in my life. Dealing with dropped calls, no coverage, bungled payments is mind bogglingly infuriating but pales in comparison to going through the process of speaking to a Vodafone consultant in India, which takes an hour each time when you actually get through, and they have no record of previous agreements reached for the account on earlier extended calls. Just today, I had my phone cut off out of NOWHERE after calling vodafone on Monday to get a payment extension until Friday, which was granted. I actually paid my bill onWednesday - but SURPRISE, my phone is blocked by Thursday morning. Vodafone is a joke and a failure! I am a peaceful and relaxed person most of the time. My home was recently unfortunately burgled and we lost most of our valuable items. The next day, the police were trying to call me ALL DAY - they called me 10 TIMES - and although I had full service on my mobile, none of the calls came through. I know this is something to do with vodafone Because other people tell me the same thing REGULARLY. With 100 percent honesty, I can say my anger and frustration at being burgled was only a fraction of the sheer frustration I went through going through a run of the mill conversation with a vodafone employee the next day who (surprise!) had no record of a $100 credit being applied to my account a month earlier after I complained about the issues with coverage and being overcharged. Thanks for wasting another few hours of my life Vodafone, for NOTHING. I honestly don't have anything in my life that makes my blood boil like this. Vodafone is a DISGRACE and an embarrassment to our nation. They have lost yet another longstanding customer that would have stayed if they didn't so consistently royally screw things up for $200 per month. EXTORTION.
18 Nov 2011 04:36:48 PM: The lesson here for everyone is to make sure you get the CSR's full name, his VF id, the incident number of the call (yes they do have them), record the date and time and what was said.
Using these few simple steps does focus their mind set and when I have used this method the CSR's are slightly taken aback but they are then aware you also have a VF record of the call..............unless they cut you off before giving the required information.........yes that has happened to me as well..........

A simple one really. I would like to cancel my contract with vodafone as they provide poor service compared to Telstra. I have many dropped calls, called voda a few times, been offered different settings. Didn't improve one bit. When I finally called the cancellations team, I get yelled at by the person.

19901 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is GETTING WORSE at 8 Nov 2011 02:52:24 AM
Service is worse in the last 4 weeks. 20 "CALL FAILED" and dropped calls in a row, every single phone call drops out!!!!.....on two different handsets and numbers....SMS never arrive or delayed by hours.....full signal 3G yet unable to download data and calls diverted to call catcher despite full signal....all this in metropolitan Sydney....IT IS GETTING WORSE NOT BETTER.....resolution involved customer service going on about my handset (there are 2), my SIM (there are 2) or that my area doesn't seem to have any problems. Reducing my monthly spend as a gesture of goodwill was in fact downgrading my plan with less benefits.....a smokescreen!!........I'M LEAVING

Call dropouts constanlty... soon as I dial the number, drop out, as soon as someone answers, drop out .... mid conversation, drop out. So frustrating, I've had to use the landline, which is going to be quite pricey this quarter. All this started when I received a message to say upgrades were being done, more like downgrades. Trying to get on to customer service is a joke, there is none.

19644 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Massive Fail at 10 Oct 2011 10:06:50 PM
Following a handset upgrade in August I was forceably transferred from the 3 network (where I was quite happy with the network coverage) to the Vodafone network & that's where the problems began.
Dropped calls (which I'd never experienced before ) and black holes in data coverage, were the main complaints along with being unable to connect anytime I went into a crowded area (such as a football game).
Anyway, after 2 verbal & 4 written complaints to Vodafail where they didn't want to know about it & only at the end did they even offer a 50% discount for 3 months off my plan (big deal) I took the matter up with the TIO (thanks to the advice from this website!).
Thankfully adding the written complaints in left Vodafail with little to stand on, they initially offered 50% off for 3 months then release if I still wasn't happy, but one more push had them releasing me immiedately.
Quite the mess, but in the end it's worked out & I have the advice on this site to thank for it because I went about it the right way. Suggest if ur in the same boat, you do likewise.

Since being convinced by the '3' Priority Care team that the Vodafone network is far superior and transferring over, I've had no-end of network issues incl. dropped calls (particularly when on the move), poor/non-existent reception where the phone won't even ring, unable to use simple mobile internet functions (such as email, facebook & the like).
After contacting Vodafone support on a number of occasions, by phone initially & now via email, providing very detailed evidence of my issues all they can tell me is they've investigated the matter & found no issues with the network coverage - and then proceed to offer me 50% discount for the next three months.
Curious they would offer me a discount as compensation where they've supposedly found no issues. Three phone calls & another four email incidents logged without reasonable resolution - I'm now taking it to the TIO to get some action.

19477 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Epic Fail at 19 Sep 2011 08:54:54 PM
2 Months ago, I had no network coverage on my phone, which took almost a week for vodafone to fix.
On top of the usual call dropouts and bad customer service, which I have called to complain in the past, I was extremely frustrated. They advised that the issue will take up to 7days to be fixed. UNACCEPTABLE. and they had the audacity to send me a bill for the month. Just at the end of last month, my blackberry completely failed on me. I took it in to the store and asked to have it repaired. The salesperson said that he's seen a similar case and that it's a software issue, and therefore I'd have to wait a few days. What he had not told me is the fact that I will have a data loss.
The following week, I went and picked up my phone, only to realise that it has been swapped over with a new handset. The problem I had with the phone was the screen, and I had lost everything. Not a single contact number. I was upset at the fact that the storeperson failed to mention anything about possible data loss. After the incident, I got my phone bill, which I refused to pay. If anything, I deserve something for the data loss. I called up vodafone to complain. They told me that they will give me a month fee off for the network problem 2 months ago. However, they can't do anything about the data loss. The man from mumbai made me feel like an idiot by saying it's common sense to expect data loss even if the storeperson doesn't tell me that there will be data loss. I argued, the storeperson is not a trained technician, and he has every right to inform me that there may be data loss, it's the storeperson's mistake and I should not suffer from his mistake. Nor does the customer care person have any right to talk to me as if I lack common sense. When my screen breaks I do not expect my phone to be replaced if I don't get told of it. Then he started cornering me for not backing up my data. Nothing worked on my phone. I couldn't even call out or receive the phone without having the screen working properly. I'm about to lodge my complaint to TIO. I'll see what they do after I lodge my complaint. All I'm left with is anger and frustration.

Then he started cornering me for not backing up my data. Nothing worked on my phone. I couldn't even call out or receive the phone without having the screen working properly. I'm about to lodge my complaint to TIO. I'll see what they do after I lodge my complaint. All I'm left with is anger and frustration.
20 Sep 2011 08:20:32 PM: The TIO is the way to go. Within a week or so someone from Vodafone will call you and try and sort it out. They will be more helpful now that the TIO is involved.

19386 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is The worst - how to get 50% your bill for the next three months by complaining at 8 Sep 2011 06:32:55 AM
I have been so hacked off with the terrible serviec, dropped calls and slow internet I phoned up complaining on Monday. They offered me 25% my bill for the next three months. I said that's not good enough and after more wrangling I got 50% off for the next three months. I accepted but the next day I got quite annoyed with the service again and phoned up to cancel my contract. I am 5 months away from the end of my contract but told them under no certain terms that they were going to terminated my contract for free, allow me to keep my iPhone which is under contract and allow me to port my number. They tried everything in the book to keep me but I just stuck at it. The call did drop twice during all this due to the crap service and had to repeat my demands. I passed this onto several people I know and they have successfully done the same. As soon as I got out of my contract I went to Telstra and handed them the porting account number and within 10 minutes my number was ported and working on a $49 plan and 1.5Gb data which is much better than the $79 plan I was on.
Give it a go and persevere. They will try everything to keep you but I told them they could offer me a Ferrari and a trip around the world but all I wanted was a phone service that WORKED.

19384 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is been fine until it all fell apart at 7 Sep 2011 05:33:13 PM
Hey guys, I moved from 3 to Vodafone and because 3 is so completely terrible I've actually had fine reception & no dropped calls. Great.
HOWEVER, today I received a $900 bill for the last 3 weeks due to 'data over use' although there has been no change to my use of data.
They claim that the 8 hour data download charges starting while i'm asleep at midnight are my own fault because I didn't shut down my applications. No warning of the overuse, not notification of the phone shut down, i'm not even at the end of the billing cycle & the phone isn't overdue. Surely this isn't okay?

This is my firs post here however I should have made a move earlier!
Last December I had finally had it with no reception and dropped calls every though I live 2kms from Perth CBD! I was paying $90 a month for a ridiclous plan with a terrible handset and not getting the service I was so loyally paying for.
I called Vodafone and asked them to have my area tested for reception and heard nothing for 5 days. I then called them back and was informed that they could not offer my reception in my area so I could now exit my contract (which has 12 months left) at no charge to me.
My boyfriend was with Vodafone as well and after a second area test and another weeks wait, they came to the same arrangement.
I posted our phones back to these idiots and and they allowed us to port both our numbers to Optus no problems at all.
SIX MONTHS LATER I receive a phone call from NRG GLOBAL SOLUTIONS asking me how I would like to pay my $1000 phone bill for early exit of my account! I cant even believe my ears. Just when I thought they were out of my life they are still trying to suck every dollar out of me. I call Vodafone and they tell me the account is closed and there is no payment owing. I tell this to NRG yet they insist I send them an email outling this so I do.
THREE MONTHS LATER I get a call from them again. I tell them to SPEAK TO VODAFONE. They said they will not and that I need to speak to them and then get a reference number for payment and give it to them.
This is still un resolved and dirving me absolutley insane! I cant believe what a joke this has become - all because I just wanted to get what I was PAYING for!!!!!!
I work in law and legal action seems to be a good option at this stage...

19307 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Disgusting at 31 Aug 2011 10:19:28 AM
I have been overseas and disabled my iPhone's 3G and Internet Capabilities altogether. 7th day into my 9 day holiday I get a message in a nutshell saying the following "You have $350.00 outstanding from your account" - I call vodafone straight away. They tell me that it may be a phone or a billing issue due to data usage (excessive), they need to investigate it. They promised to call me back. I arrive in Sydney, and the next day my phone gets barred and I can not call my employer and tell him that I have been delayed for work. We lost $4000 that morning. It gets better. I call vodafone that night and they tell me that they can not do anything until their team in sydney starts work at 8am. I call again at 8.30am. Have to explain my story all over again, then get redirected to their sydney team to get an error "Sorry we operate 9am-8pm" instead of going back to the guy who I just spoke to it hang up. I called again at 9.30 5 times until I finally got through (My phone dropped connectivity because of the infamous vodafone "service"). Then the guy tells me the following, my iPhone accumulated $390 worth of data roaming. Because it downloaded and uploaded 30Mb of data in total, I can see that you have launched a dispute and think that this is false. Unfortunately we can not disbar your phone until you pay that sum (even though its not due for an other month) (In case you are wondering New Zealand charges it prepaid customers 50c a Mb rate - thats the highest - Vodafone is charging me $10/Mb< for services that I did not use + Dissabled my number and calling until I did so). The problem is on their side and I end up paying for it. Before I could reply the phone call was dropped. I want out of my contract, you can have the phone and I am going to Tesltra. I am having dropped calls and I can not use internet if I am traveling faster than an average butterfly. Sure people tell me that their customer service is not as good but the best customer service not having to ring "customer service" in the first place. I am getting in contact with Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman and speaking with vodafone personally
31 Aug 2011 06:05:12 PM: If you want great customer service and cheap call rates I suggest Amaysim. I have even convinced my partner now to sign up with them after her troubles with Vodafail for being overcharged on data she did not use.
19297 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Self explanatory at 29 Aug 2011 10:48:42 PM
I used to work for Vodafone, and hated it! Not initially because of the company itself, but because of the call centre-which is now Vodafone's fault for lack of training and informing staff exactly which department does what so that they don't toss the customers from one department to the next.
Imagine making 20 of those one call centre phone calls a day and you will understand the pain I along with half the Vodafone staff experienced.
I haven't worked for them for about a year now, but unfortunately I signed myself up to a contract before leaving them. The problem these days is the call centre regardless of any miscommunication have absolutely no authority to do something within their department. There is no one to speak to any more who can resolve any issue!
I can go on and on about my mobile broadband issues and being charged per month when it has been in repairs for 6 weeks, Or how about staying on the phone for hours being thrown around like a rag doll from customer service department to collections team to be hung up on as soon as I ask for Loyalties and Retention (apparently now called 'Cancellation team') which is the only department that jumped to fix the wrongly applied barring to my phone which cost me days of important business calls and emails (I upgraded from Vodafone Rep to an Advertising agency) and should really be with Telstra, even though there service is equally poor, at least we won't get any dropped calls.
Anyway, I will not bore you with my pain story, I'm sure others have covered every problem. However Vodafone CEO if your reading this, you can say goodbye to your pretty penny because I can guarantee you that your business is already down the drain, the only income you will receive from here on in will be the left over contracts, which if like mine will end within this year and I will disappear from your pathetic Siebel software which gave away customers details.
P.S your company is not shit because of the slow service or dropped calls every now and again, because people don't care - nothing is perfect, it's shit because your to busy sitting on your yacht enjoying your passion fruit mojito to notice your untrained staff are failing to meet each customers expectations-and that is an understatement!

19281 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Ugrade becomes downgrade at 27 Aug 2011 03:09:06 PM
Live in Wollongong, have a Blackberry on a month to month basis with Vodafail, everything working well(at least I had 3G functionality intermittently) until last Wednesday when all services dropped out without explanation. Yesterday I received a text message from Vodafone to let me know that a network upgrade was being made text was two days late and arrived after the upgrade was made.
Still having no service after the alleged network upgrade was done, I contacted customer service and after two hours of speaking with a very polite Indian gentleman, and going through the motions of trying to convince me that my Blackberry was faulty (its not I've been through this before with them) he went on to inform me that after checking the signal coverage of my area, it appears that the upgrades to the network have resulted in DOWNGRADE of services available in my area???? WTF?
After five call dropouts during our conversation, the final suggestion was for me to find a neighbour and use their phone should any emergency arise, as Vodafone could not guarantee an uninterupted service from this point onwards.
Thank you Vodafone your alleged $1bn upgrades in your network have resulted in even less coverage in the 3rd largest city in the most populous state in the Country.

27 Aug 2011 04:32:17 PM: Mate, if your on the month to month, leave them. You dont have a contract to worry about. The reception your having now (no reception) is what i get 24/7 here in Shellharbour. I rang vodafone to complain 3 weeks ago about reception, they were meant to call me back within 5days and nothing. Ive been too busy with uni to follow up on the complaint, and when the man was giving me the complaint number he hung up on me. So now when i call they will say, "you never rang before, its not on the system" etc ... back to square 1

After the usual dropped calls and lack of reception, messed up bills I received a new phone to keep me as a customer however the bad service has just escalated. My sim activation is 'stuck' in the 'system' and so I without any service for 24 hours. They can't get one thing right, any other provider would surely be able to provide a better service.. Don't even get me started on the staff, I was told there is no complaints department but they can 'note' it down.

There is absolutely no change to reception and dropped calls in the ACT. I'd be interested to know the extent of any "upgrades" to the network in this area.
15 Aug 2011 09:22:06 AM: Heh - same here. I work out at the business park next to the airport and being the airport, you'd exepect to have 5 full bars of 3G. Nope, just have one bar, two at best.

I am in a $90 a month contract with vodafone and have experienced little to no reception since my signup to vodafone, i have reported the issue three times and each time they assign the call to a technician to investigate the issue and then im told there is nothing wrong.
In the mean time im still paying $90 a month for call dropouts, intermittent data issues even though 3G is available and nothing is being done about it.
I am seriously over the service and customer service offered by vodafone overall.

Terrible service, dropped calls, delayed text, no 3G
19076 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Mega Fail at 6 Aug 2011 09:32:46 AM
My Vodafail story:
I moved over to Vodafail in may last year, and went with a HTC Magic. My fiance was already with them, so I came over to get the free V2V calls. At the time, we lived in Sunnybank and the only place we could get reception was by going out to the street or standing on a chair in the walk in robe. Wasnt too bad as most of my time I worked in the Valley and had reception there. Anyway, after using my phone for a few months it was having issues with dropped calls, random restarts, and sometimes just completely losing the VF network. I had the distinct pleasure of calling the call centre and was advised to take my phone into the repair centre at Milton. As I was told it would only take an hour to re-flash the software, I took it in at lunchtime and came back after eating lunch.
First fail (not including dodgy handset and crap coverage): The tech working on the phone buggered up the mainboard, so we have ordered parts from Sydney so you will need to wait for a week for the parts to arrive.
Second fail: Call them after a week without the phone to find out if it is ready to pick up. Sorry, the part was not available in our warehouse, so we have ordered it from the manufacturer. It will take about 3-4 weeks to arrive.
I am pretty pissed off now, but what can you do. One would have thought that you would keep stock levels up of current phone hardware, but that would be sensible.
Third fail: Four weeks later, I still havent heard anything so I give the call centre a call to find out what my options are for getting a replacement. Unfortunately I have no option for replacement as I am on a 24 month contract, so I can buy out the remaining 21 months to pay off the handset and move to another provider at some prohibitive rate, or I can buy another handset outright and just use the sim. Not excited about either of those options, I gave the repair centre a call.
Fourth fail: Sorry, didnt someone call you to tell you your phone was ready last friday (this being the Thursday of the following week). Uhh, no...
Pick up the phone, use it for a few more months and still have exactly the same issues.
Fifth fail: Back to the repair centre, somewhat more nervously wondering how long I will be without a phone for, and advised that it will only take an hour. After another lunch at Milton, back to the repair centre and deja vu time. Exactly the same thing has happened - main board broken, no parts in the warehouse, and a month before I get my phone back.
I am normally very patient, but that was it for me. The repair centre advised that the only way I could get a replacement phone was to go through customer care, so I left and called customer care later that day. I was then told that the repair centre are the only ones who can authorise a replacement phone, but as it was now after 5 on a friday I couldnt do anything until monday.
One useful bit of information I did find out was that if you have two repairs performed on the one device, then VF are obliged to swap your handset with another to the same value or less.
I went into a retail store, and to the storepersons credit, he was very helpful in talking with the customer care people over the phone and organising a swap to a new handset, a HTC Desire.
Sixth fail: As part of the swap, they needed the old phone back. Luckily the store guy gave me the Desire so I had a phone over the weekend, but then I had to go to Milton to pick up the crap phone and take it back to the Mt Gravatt store. Got to the Mt Gravatt store and the guy I spoke to wasnt there, so they were going to give me another phone, but eventually got it sorted.
The new handset is much more reliable, but VF coverage and data speed is still woeful. We moved to Bellbird Park and now have one bar if we are lucky. My fiance is now 37 weeks pregnant, so I am just hoping that I am home when bubby decides to make his arrival because she probably wont be able to call me and who knows how quickly a SMS would go through. She was working at Griffith Uni Nathan Campus where there was also a distinct lack of coverage, so we just used email to talk rather than attempt a phone conversation.
Her contract is up in the next few months, so we will be moving away from VF. Most likely it will be to Telstra because they at least have better coverage and excellent data speeds in comparison.

29 Jul 2011 09:48:28 PM: Well done on keeping a detailed record of your discussions with Vodafone. Will make it easier for you if you need to escalate your issues to the TIO.
Agree with you about the discounts. Not worth much. Prefer to be receiving a reliable service where we can confidently make and receive calls and text, and an internet service that is usable.

30 Jul 2011 01:35:25 AM: Lucky. When I complained about the same thing early this year I got completely ignored. No response past the automated reply. When I complained again in April, all I was offered was a reduced exit fee. They made it sound like a good deal. Just pay $300 and you get to walk away right now and KEEP YOUR PHONE! Woohoo!
Not a cent worth of discount, not a bar worth of reception.

18913 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is woeful at 25 Jul 2011 11:08:23 AM
Seriously tearing my hair out!
Live on the North Shore, work in the Inner West, travel through the CBD every day. Patchy coverage everywhere, missed calls because callers can't get through to me, text message alerts that come through hours after a voicemail has been left, signal strength constantly up and down, data service abysmal, paying 69 dollars a month for something I can't use. My partner and most of my contacts on Vodafone but it's embarrassing how many times I have dropped calls, have to make repeated attempts to call.
Six weeks ago, spoke to customer service, described (very diplomatically and politely I might add) all my issues, found them to be reasonably helpful... albeit it was two hours of my life on the phone to a call centre that i'll never get back. Got callbacks and had my phone reset, established that all the stated areas of Sydney had "network issues"... as a consolation, I was offered for $69 to be credited to my account for 3 months.
Reasonable I thought, although ordinarily I'd have no qualms about paying for something that does what its supposed to. Six weeks later, and two bills have been sent out to me, neither with any suggestion that this credit offer has been applied.
So I ring back again... guess what, no record that the conversation ever took place! Brilliant. So, another hour on the phone through various departments and "engineers" all going through the same charade of calling back, resetting, testing, postcode checks, blah blah blah...
Seriously, what's the best thing to do here? Apparently, this time they've requested the credit to my next bill, and on my explicit request, they made a note on my account that the conversation we'd had had taken place and the outcome stated. However, a discounted bill for the next month or two doesn't actually help me, it just eases the pain a little bit. I still have nearly 12 months left on my contract and the cost to buy my way out of it is over $600...
Help!

25 Jul 2011 02:00:14 PM: It sounds like you've been through Vodafone and they haven't been able to sort much out, the best thing to do is go to the TIO (details on the how to complain page). The TIO will let you dispute the bill and also file a complaint, they will then give vodafone 10 days to sort it out or face a fine. As soon as you go to the TIO, Vodafone gets a lot more helpful.

With 3 people in the house on Vodafone and 2 that aren't and Vodafone tells us we don't have a problem when we can't use our phones in the house yet the other two suppliers that are used can! To top it off the dropped calls and bad reception happens over Sydney. The people you deal with in India have know idea and do you think Vodafone came to the house to investigate NO, they said we DON'T have a problem. Like hell you don't come to my place and find out! People who visit complain they don't get reception when they are on vodafone in our area. Explain that. It's not the mobiles either as we are using 3 different brands. God help Vodafone.

This month I have realised that there is an excessive quota recorded against my account which costed me more than $300. This is due to my internet did not disconnect for 6 days and during this time I have restarted my phone as I experienced very poor internet service. I contacted customer support straight away and later on their technical support and they only willing to give me $60 credit.
I have then written an email outline my request with reasons but they responded me to liaise with their technical support and billiing team whom cant help me any further. They are just ignoring my question. I guess I will go TIO as soon as I have received my bill this month too.

I was a 3 customer,
Last year when I resigned I didn't know that Vodafone had taken over the service.
Maybe I didn't read it in the fine-print.
Certainly no one explained it to me in the shop where I signed up.
I never liked Vodafone and I never wanted to be a customer of theirs after troubles I had with them while traveling in the UK.
Am I now stuck with useless service, incoming calls constantly diverted to VM, no reception, poor SMS delivery and dropped calls or is there a way I can cancel my contract without incurring large exit fees.

I live in Griffith NSW and Vodafone is the biggest joke here. At best I have 1 or 2 bars. And thats if Im in the middle of town. I live about 10 mins out and I have 1 bar at best. Slow internet and constant call dropout. The Mobile phone tower is an hour's drive away near Hay in the middle of nowhere and if i want full coverage i need to go out there and that's when the signal is strongest. The nearest Vodafail store is at Wagga (200km away). Looks like another epic fail. I was visiting Sydney last week and the signal was 3 bars at best. Hopeless!!! Get your act together Vodaphoney!! You are hopeless in reigonal NSW. The best services are Telstra, Austar or CountryMobile.

Well i signed up to voadfone back in perth was told coverage was wonderful that was b.s.Since being on their network ive had nothing but trouble and dropped calls missed calls even in my own house here. They are trying to say its from the insulation in my roof.Well funny that because it was happening outside in the backyard too. Also sms messagesd that i sent werent getting to people till up to 24 hours later or not at all i rang them again about this the excuse was oh the network must have been busy. Also internet acces is useless as well constant drop outs and unable to access sometimes at all,3rd world countries have better internet access than vodafone does.Since being onto the ombudsman plenty of times i had the contract cancelled but im still recieving bills from these morons and well im just throwing them in the bin and when a debt collector turns up im going to tell him to shove off vodafone is the most useless network out there...Im sure to tell other people that you are better off with someone else other than vodafone dodo network is better and has better coverage but i go into rural areas somethiem and trust noone even though they are expensive ive gone back to telstra...Vodafone should be ashamed of their network and also their customer service people they take ages to answer the phone and cant even speak english properly useless vodafone shame on you ....basically legally scamming people out of their money....utterly disgusted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Call dropouts, 3G dropouts (turning off 3G works for call reception and calls are much more reliable), terrible throughput/speed for internet browsing regardless of location - i've never even come close to using a quarter of my monthly allowance as pages time out all the time!
Vodafone advise my speed issues should be fixed in about 3months, but only for the 1 location they would allow me to provide... my house address, where I don't use 3G!

The usual story. Unfortunately I have both a mobile phone contract and wireless USB stick with them. On the phone it's dropped calls, no reception, messages not sending despite apparently having reception. With internet, despite being in a capital city, it's terribly slow if it chooses to work. Sometimes it only is available in the corner of my courtyard with the computer held up above my head...not really conducive for use!
It's annoying, yes. But it's also incredibly unsafe.

I was informed by vodafone that my handset was the reason why I was getting bad reception/dropped calls/talking to robots sounding voice etc. I had a Blackberry Storm so it was at the time a good phone. I upgraded through thier loyalty program (PFT what a joke) and got a HTC Desire HD (What I would consider to be a top of the range phone) and my reception is evn worse. I live in metro Adelaide and cannot get reception in my lounge room. I was at the shop yesterday and could not make a call as I had no reception at all, Then I figured it out. Although I had walked into my local shop, I must have been incorrect as to the placement of said shop, whereas it is obviously located on top of a mountain in a foriegn country where I cannot get a signal.....silly me. In short Vodafone lied about my reception handset issues and tricked me into signing a new contract, issuing me with a new phone (Goodphone mind you) and delivering the same useless reception that I had before. NOT HAPPY!!!

Dear Vodaphone, you suck. How is it you think it acceptable to offer the absolute cluster f@#* of a service you peddle to your suffering customers. Dropped calls, intermittent web access, delayed SMS delivery, you name it - that is when your "service" is not in a state of meltdown.
How kind it is of you to offer free SMS messages between 8AM and 8PM this Sunday in response to yet another outage shared by all on Easter Sunday.
Thank-you, but with all due respect you can take your free SMS's and shove them. If you really want to impress me, try taking the revenue you plan on forgoing with these useless free SMS's and put it toward FIXING THE BLOODY PROBLEM!

What a debacle. I've been using Vodafone for ~8 years, and have weathered a few storms with them, however nothing as seriously bad as the last 6 months. Dropped calls, fluctuating reception, poor SMS performance. 3G internet performance is a joke; its so flaky regardless of how many bars are displayed on the phone. Being disgruntled, and then running into a non-functioning billing service is pretty much the last straw. I can't even pay my (quite excessive, given the lack of actual service) bill due to 1555 and their website both refusing to accept payment after long wait times and filling out tedious forms.
I will be moving over to Telstra. They might be more expensive, however at least I will be getting what I pay for.

I struggled to get 3G on my HTC since XMAS and thought it was my Nokia N95 8G that was the cause. After 2 months of dropped calls, limited access etc. I have nbow upgraded to the HTC Desire HD and found some relief.
Then Easter... No TXT access & limited service AGAIN! Is this going to turn into a 3 months affair where I struggle to get access AGAIN!!!
I can't believe I had to watch ACA to see the story on VHA offering FREE TXT to their subscribers this Sunday.
Whoopdy-FKN-doo VHA I'm on an UNLIMITED plan so I get UNLIMITED TXT anyway...
Just get it right! More towers in Hobart and TAS for that matter & take a look at the East Coast!
I am embarrassed to say that I worked for VHA for nearly 10.5yrs.
All I can say is that since Grahame Maher CEO it has never been the same!
Grahame would turn in his grave if he could see VHA has gone to the dogs!
RIP Grahame.

I have only been with Vodaphone for 3-4 weeks. I cannot use my mobile (Iphone 4) at my desk at work or make or receive calls at my home. I was previously with 3 and was encouraged by Mobicom to change to Vodaphone and take advantage of the upgrade in phones - 10 in all. We are experiencing no service in 4 of our major work areas, where we did have service previously. The dropped calls is the worst and the delay in texts is atrocious. I have experienced good customer service but no solution to the problem has been offered. I am extremely disgruntled with the level of coverage and Vodaphone has not provided the level of service that I signed up for. 2 out of 10 vodaphone
17410 Someone from TAS thinks vodafone is at 27 Apr 2011 10:24:04 AM
I have been with Vodafone for around 4 years. I have put up with the dropped calls, bad reception (most of the time, no signal/reception at all), voicemails being delivered 24 hours after the call has been made, with family and friends telling me my phone was off, incorrect, phone is always on. I work in the CBD (Hobart) and sometimes cannot load facebook (in my lunch break of course), iTunes or Safari at all, it just continually tries to load the page unsuccessfully. When a call does connect and I answer, I can hear the person on the other end, but they can't hear me, or I can talk for a few minutes, then they can't hear me, all I get is "Where did you go?" or "Hello"??? so I hang up. Enough is enough in this day and age of modern technology, we should be able to talk, surf the net, buy a song, send a text and say hi to friends on facebook from our phone with no interruptions or service problems. I am hoping nothing happens to my daughter or myself, as I have my vodafone service to rely on for a 000 call should I need it.
17408 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Poor Reception at 27 Apr 2011 09:59:28 AM
I am in Bendigo Victoria and use my mobile extensively for work. I am often in areas that simply have no reception (My Factory in East Bendigo), on the train to Melb, or simply slightly outside the CBD. I get dropped calls, no reception, and the icing on the cake is - full signal and I get an sms telling me to call voicemail. I call voicemail and the time of the message is less than two minutes from my call to voicemail to when voicemail recorded the message. The message is someone calling to talk to me. When I speak to them, I ask if they heard my phone ring and they always state that it went straight through to voicemail. This is most frustrating as the phone had full signal and simply didn't ring.

As a roadtrain driver I am dependant on phone services. So frustrated (on daily basis) by Vodafones poor reception &/or dropped calls (whilst paying premium prices) I will change to another service provider.

I have been having issues with my phone ever since i begun my contract with Vodafone last year. I am constantly facing problems relating to:
1. dropped calls
2. delayed SMS and voicemails
3. dropped coverage consistently during the day
4. slow data and internet
5. phone constantly freezes
6. multiple charges for a single SMS
7. SMS's sending multiple times without my permission (THE LIST GOES ON)
Vodafone assured me that the coverage in my area was being improved over a month ago but all i have noticed is increasing problems and no solutions..Disgraceful!

I live near Goulburn on the land, have no land line so have had to rely on mobile service with Vodaphone which is driving me absolutely batty. Every single phone call drops out sometimes up to 3 times in one call. I have to go outside as I have no reception inside. Not looking forward to winter when the weather gets below 0 degrees. Brrrrr. So many times people are unable to contact me, and are unable to leave a message as voice mail does not work. I need a phone company that I can rely, I worry if I am on my own and there was an emergency what would I do!! Vodafail get your act together.

Since I joined Vodafone last November, my phone kept dropped out, my friends even urged me to change the plan, but I've signed 24 months contract, annoying! annoying! annoying!
17246 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is 3G unconnectivity at 26 Apr 2011 06:53:13 PM
Hi, I live about 1/2 hour north of Brisbane's CBD and cannot get 3G coverage from Vodafone at home. This means that I cannot use the internet on my smart phone. I also get frequent dropped calls. If it doesn't improve by December this year, I will switching mobile phone provider. To add my email address to my account took about 4 months. I rang, went to the store, updated my account online many times, but it still took 4 months.

I live on the Central Coast, and I constantly have dropped calls, and sometimes, my phone doesn't even ring at all! I'm a volunteer firefighter who requires a reliable phone to be contacted. How can I when it doesn't work!?
Sorry Vodaphone, but if one of your stores was on fire, I can't help put it out because I never even heard about it... Not that I would anyway.

17179 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is a joke that is getting worse by the day at 26 Apr 2011 06:43:01 PM
I have been with Voda since 2000 and have experienced pretty much all of the issues suggested - dropped calls (often 3-4 times in the one conversation), wrong bills, on hold for an hour, hopeless customer service (I am meant to have an account manager - they keep quitting !) and don't get me started about Lara (who they don;t program to recognise "shut the F up").
How do I get out of the contract that is due to expire in Sept ? I think 11 years is enough loyalty to get an exit bonus (or is that bonus exit ?)! If I have to keep a log of all the issues from now on it will only make me worse.
Cheers

I live on the corner of Burke Road and Wattletree Road in Glen Iris, I get fluctuating reception in my apartment and dropped calls. Most times when people try to call me, it goes straight to voicemail. Luckily I don't pay for this 'service' as it's a corporate plan provided by my employer. Vodafone: sell your piece of junk network to someone who can run it properly and get out of the game while you still can.
17171 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Ongoing network issues at 26 Apr 2011 06:09:03 PM
I'm not going to go into too much detail but see the merit in joining the anti-vodafone movement.
I joined the "lack of" Network in november 2010 and have counted over 100+ dropped calls, massive network related dropouts / reception issues. Voice mail not coming through for hours and in some case days at a time.
Usually I'm a patient person who just gets on with things but this network has driven me mad. Considering I reside in the Sydey Metropolitan area & am a very busy business man travelling around this service is unacceptable.
I've lodged 3 formal complaints already but since Vodafone has opted to lock me into a contract I guess we all wait?

Got away from vodafone 6 months ago and have never looked back. Now the problem is uninformed friends and relatives who think call dropouts and crappy coverage are "normal" for a mobile, and it's so frustrating being on the other end of the call.. knowing that there is far better out there for similar or even less money.
There is no excuse anymore. Vodafone should just take the massive share price hit and shut up shop in Australia. It is simply astounding that they haven't been forced to do so already.
