Dear visitor,
Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant
contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced
by Vodafone customers.
Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders.
You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.
Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.
More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly.
Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints.
The site will remain online for as long as possible as a
reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.
It has been a privilege to run this initiative
and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In
particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their
continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.
You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.
Until next time,
Adam Brimo

I've been a customer of Vodafone for over 10 years up until now I was a happy customer. On Saturday December 11th 2010 I had NO SERVICE for phone calls, text messaging, mms, 3G or internet service, repeat NO SERVICE!!!On 13/12/2010 I received a text from Vodafone apologizing for the disruption and services are full restored, but the network keeps dropping in and out no 3g service. I then received another text from Vodafone 16/12/2010 notifying customers "due to the disruption all calls and text made in WA will be free". Well that's very nice Vodafone but it would help if the network would be up and running again. There's no point offering free calls when your customers don't have any service.

Halfway through a 2 year wireless internet contract.Initially told my area had a good signal I wouldnt have any worries. 70% of the time the signal is poor. 20% is very poor and the other 10% is good, Tried calling got no real help there so cant wait till my contract ends

Each time I recharge my prepaid service, I get thank you and marketing sms' sent to me - unfortunately between 2am and 5am Perth time! I've complained and sent mails to vodaphone, but no-one responds. The local store advises they cannot do anything but send mails to their channels as well, basically no help at all, and I cannot turn my phone off at night as I am on call.
7760 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Completely a Failure at 28 Dec 2010 09:01:37 PM
I am in Real Estate and my phone is my lifeline. I was told by Vodafone staff that their coverage was excellent in Baldivis and surrounding area's. It is not, it is very very poor and my phone often drops out without warning. Sometimes my message bank does not filter the messages through for 24 hours. It is not and unfortunately because I can't tolerate Telstra I feel I don't have many options. I know that I have lost business and possibly frustrated many clients, not to mention myself!
7721 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Awful at 28 Dec 2010 08:36:45 PM
I was with vodafail for 2 months into a brand new contract. I had constant bad reception, not receiving calls, delayed text messages etc. I complained to them and after filling out a few questionnaires etc after a week they admitted that they legally had to let me out of the contract for free because I wasn't getting the service I was paying for. Although I was disappointed in the service I was happy that they were the ones that said I could be let out of the contract free of charge. I'm surprised alot of you haven't been able to do the same!
7712 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Extreme FAIL! at 28 Dec 2010 08:30:16 PM
Besides the recent WA outage. I notice the data is slow, sometimes almost as slow as the older, GPRS/EDGE. Calls drop out every 5 to 10 minutes, ending with a very load BE BA BEEP noise. While the coverage is 'ok' it is almost NEVER at full bars on Dual-Band 3G OR 2/2.5g. When I lived in Adelaide it usually sat at 3 or 4, in Albany it is now 2 to 3 bars. The Telstra/Optus phone I have are both at 5. Vodafone is bloody shocking, and I want to leave the contract... guess I will have to wait it out.

7700 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Incredibly Poor at 28 Dec 2010 08:26:07 PM
Their reception is poor, their plans are poor, their merge with 3 is bad for the public and therefore poor, their "VodaCare" or help line is VERY poor and Vodafone as a mobile service is well, you guessed it.. poor. FIX or loose me as a customer!!!
7691 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is at 28 Dec 2010 08:20:47 PM
I am absolutey fed up with vodafone. I am stuck with the contract unless I pay them out. They are in breech of their contract by not providing the service that we pay for. Why should I pay for it if I dont get the service. My complaints are: no.1 bad reception alot of the time No.2 call drop outs (alot of the time) No.3 No notification of calls coming through has been going straight to the voice msg bank Not even a ring! the following day the notification comes through this was 12 hours later !! & yes my phone was fully charged. ( I had no idea people rang me!!! I had missed calls whereby no notification came through for these even as missed calls. I work for an agency oncall to my horror one of the calls was for work which I did not recieve therefore missed out on work for the day !! And this is the service that I pay for ??? No. 4 when you ring customer service to get help these human robots continuously trouble shoot until you get so frustated...(a complete waste of time (the problems still exists today) then you realise "Hello!! this is as bad as it gets" for a phone company - Welcome to Vodafone or was i hearing right - VODAFAIL.
7686 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Very Fail at 28 Dec 2010 08:17:31 PM
I signed up for an iPhone in May and have nothing but problems of which Vodafone has kept blaming the phone for. I constantly get told to reset my network settings as that will fix the problem. It does for about a day and then I have to put up with the dropped calls, call fails and then people calling me on my husbands number saying I have been trying to call you for three days and your phone has been off???? I run a business and my phone is on 24/7. BIG thanks for setting this site up and creating awareness. I used to work for Vodafone and this company was a fantastic place to work. Since the merge the service and attitude is not the one I remember working with only a few short years ago. My loyalty is wearing thin and it is breaking my heart. Bigger isn't necessarily better by the looks of things. It appears Vodafone shouldn't have gone near 3 that had a terrible reputation prior to the merge.
7672 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is And they charge me for this... at 28 Dec 2010 08:11:01 PM
Well for over 10 years i have been reporting a black spot around the Uni of WA driving into the city and back. I have repeatedly complained about voicemail messages that have been received days (yes days sometime weeks) after they had been left by callers to me. I have complained that the time stamp on voicemail is East Coast based. Basically i have nothing to report other than complains to Vodafone - they are certainly happy to charge for this lack of service and when you call for any of these issues and report them you are told "sorry it's a software error" that is either being worked on or can't be fixed - can't be fixed what a bloody joke!. Regular dropout of calls and data connections. Mobile dongles that don't work with/support Windows 7 out of the box and when you call them you are told oh you simply download software - NOT IF YOU CAN INSTALL the bloody modem in the first place....
I could go on and on... I would move to Telstra tomorrow given the option to get out of my contract.

7656 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is TOTAL FAILURE at 28 Dec 2010 07:59:44 PM
I used to have full service at work and home. I now have 1 bar service (no 3g) in the CBD, and i have either no service or 1 bar, living 15mins out of the city..
I have spent probably close to 6 hours on the phone (on hold) to Vodafone in the last few weeks.
Even after the Vodafone guy came out and admitted to the network issues, the tech support
people continued to tell me there is no network issue, and it is my phone.
I then read out the press release to the CSO who then hung up on me!
*On Sunday a friend sent me a picture message around 12 midday. I received it today at 8am*
I currently have a case in with the TIO (who have passed the 10 day deadline), and i doubt i will get the resolution i require... out of my contract with no cost. I do want to keep my iphone4... if i DO need to send it back, fine, but i dunno what good a used phone will do for them....
Also, I have been with Vodafone for about 10 years now, and in the past never had many problems with them other than some stupid billing ones, but since the merger, i cannot believe how fast their decline has been.

7645 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is MEGA FAIL at 28 Dec 2010 07:54:06 PM
I live in Perth & have only been with Vodafone for a few weeks. I have so much trouble with reception. My phone always drops of out of service when I'm on calls, trying to make calls & trying to send texts. I haven't done anything about it coz I thought it was just me but after seeing this on news report I can see I am not alone & Vodafone obviously have some issues that they better sought out ASAP!
7642 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is shocking at 28 Dec 2010 07:53:32 PM
I'm on a $40 month by month usb internet plan (10gb), which has been ok regarding reception (most of the time) and the bill has been $40 month, until this month. I nearly fell over when I got a $163 bill. Thought I was only allowed 10gb and was sure thats all I used as the notification to let me know I'm getting close to my limit never popped up. How can they charge $163 for a $40 plan. Vodafone, you lost my vote, and my business...
28 Dec 2010 08:14:17 PM: thats not a vodaphone problem. All phone companies have the same basic billing system, if you go over your cap you have to pay extra. It's not there problem that you dont understand that or go over the amount you where meant to use.
29 Dec 2010 04:17:52 PM: if you exceed ur data limit, you pay the extra youve used..u have access to your data balance ..it is ur fault for not keeping an eye on what ur using..NOT VODAFONE'S FAULT ...geeeezzz

7523 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Epic Fail at 28 Dec 2010 06:52:30 PM
1. Poor to no reception in many places, including my home (I live 15mins from the Perth CBD).
2. Calls go straight to voicemail without even ringing. Have had many occasions where family and friends have attempted to call me with my phone fully charged, yet I get no ringing, instead a msg saying I have a voicemail. If people do not leave a message, I do not receive any notification of them having called me.
3. Calls dropping out halfway through conversation
4. Had listed my mobile on my resume when I applied for several jobs. In the couple months, I never heard back from any, even to say I hadn't got the job. Decided I would use my dad's mobile who is with Telstra, got a call back from the first job and resume I sent out. I realize this may be purely coincidental but also could be related to vodafone as I have no way of finding out missed calls unless a voicemail is left.

Moved from the uk 18 months ago where I had a phone with vodafail. So when I landed here I stupidly thought I would stay loyal.God what a foobar that was!!Lived in Qld for most of the 18 months then moved to WA because of work.Drove all the way across and can count the times on 2 fingers I had reception.I now lived on 90kms outside Perth and the amount of times my calls are dropped or I have no reception at all is to put it mildly totally pathetic and unacceptable from a firm that takes $80 a month off me.Worst of all is that Ive got another year to run on my contract!!!I will go crazy!!
7425 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Epic Fail at 28 Dec 2010 06:28:49 PM

I live in a pretty densely populated suburb, and I can't even recieve calls sometimes, or make them - and at times can't even get my GPS working when I need to find business addresses.
They are shoddy and I will feel much better telling them that their coverage sucks. They do not deserve $80 a month to provide piss-poor service and to have coverage that barely lets me hold a conversation, or even check my mail on the go.
Sod them!!!

No coverage, calls dropping out, text messages arriving 50 times in a row or taking 12+ hours. Customer service does not exist, phone to call centre who are more interested in selling me an upgraded plan, then say, after 25 mins hold and 5 mins talking that they will put me through to someone who can help, after which the phone hangs up. Try online help, they WILL NOT answer, they keep sending authorisation checks which are completed but not understood or read, after several emails I get one back that says it has been 120 hours since they asked me to provide information which was supplied in each email I sent. I have left Vodafone for good and gone to Exetel. Good luck if you are with them, I hope you can get out of your contract.

I visited my Brother in QLD 3 XMas's ago out in Western QLD just out the back of Brisbane. I had a great job working IT training in WA for four of the big hospitals.
I had no coverage and could not inform work that I had missed my flight, and being XMas, could not return for a week or later.
The WA Government politely told me they were not renewing my contract in the coming Months.
90% Coverage my bum, I'm still looking for work, and back in QLD with another provider

My phone constantly cuts out every 6 minutes. I can't call my son his on vodafone it keeps sayong"he has incoming call restrictions" He doesnt an when people try to call me it does the same. Any timne you call its always over half an hour have been on hold upto 95mins. Got no compensation when my phone was less then 2weeks old an had to be sent away for repairs. lost all ringtones which I still had to pay for. I want to swap to telstra.

This is the poorest level of service and worst value for my money... Ever. I am paying for a smart phone which is rendered completely useless by the lack of reception and paying for heaps of calls and data which I can't even use. Only a couple of months into a nightmare of a 24 month contract......get me outta here! I was hoping that I would never have to go back to Telstra, but vodash&t clearly aren't capable of providing a goddam thing. Why don't they spend less money on sponsoring every televised sporting event and more money on fixing their service issues???

3 wireless broadband customer-the network was always shaky never downloads at the speeds the signal strength says it should. Tried downloading a 2gig map for Tom Tom today at 3 bar high speed indication was 7 hours. The network dropped out after 3 hours. Start again. will just pay the additional charges not worth dealing with customer service. a complete waste of time
6744 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is very at 28 Dec 2010 04:08:59 PM
Was with vodafone, because it was cheap. Then realised cheap meant network problems, slow speeds, dleayed texts, crappy customer service. Switched to telstra. Pay a hell of a lot more on my phone bill but my god it is a million time better. I've had a few issues with telstra too, but one phone call and it's all sorted out. In fact telstra is incompetent enough that you can scam them out of bills and everything !!! But damn their reception and net speeds are superb!!
Guess mummy was right. You do indeed get what you pay for.

Drp-outs, drop-outs & more drop-outs. Lack of signal or very signal in my home just 2km from CBD. Calls overseas - often the reciever cannot hear / call drops out - thought this was their end, but when using a phone on a different network, no problem. Bah Phooey.

About 4 years ago Vodacrap was OK. I believe they oversold their bandwidth and now its crap. I can rarely get a call to go past 3min. Its starting to affect my business. This morning I had to re-boot my phone 3 times in order to make a call when the wifes phone worked fine. Friday afternoons around 4pm are a joke, just forget about using VodaCrap. Bite the bullet and go elsewhere.
6684 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is EXTREMELY FAIL! at 28 Dec 2010 03:14:24 PM
We (when I say we, I mean 3 of us who are all with vodafone under the same roof) live at the top of Western Australia in Kununurra. Vodafone almost always gives us great full bar reception. For the past 2 weeks we have been lucky to even get one bar, delayed voicemails, txt msgs etc. Not only did they charge me $1200 for a phone bill but they made me pay it twice as it did not show up on their records as paid. Then when contacting customer care (who was somewhere in India might I add) he said he could not reimburse me my second payment of $1200 it would go into credit instead... so $2400 wasted on them just in time for Christmas!

Ive been with Vodafone for about 7yrs after getting rid of optus.I have NEVER had a problem with reception, data service and i have never had to contact them with any complaints...until now!!!!!
There are days i cant even send a message or ring anyone.as i am a single mum of a small child i rely on my mobile for emergencies etc and this has become a big problem. The reason i chose Vodafone in the first plase was because of the value for money and no dramas....VODAFONE,SORT YOUR ISSUES OUT OR THERE WILL BE ALOT OF CUSTOMERS LIKE MYSELF,LEAVING YOUR "SERVICES" FOR A BETTER AND MORE RELIABLE NETWORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I changed from Vodafone to three about three years ago becauce of the poor coverage,I was very happy with three until recent times Now my phone dropes out
My calls go straight to voice mail and that's in Malaga Guildford area.
I am still being charged for calls from 3 to Vodafone that should now be free I have been on to the call centre but they are just stupid people working in the overseas call centre who don't understand English.
Come on Vodafone lift your game or get out of Australia

I have been with Vodafone for a while now using a prepaid plan; I believed that the issue of my phone not ringing but calls going straight to voicemail was a problem with the phone, so I bought a new one. The problem is still happening. Recently I tried to unlock my new phone from the Vodafone network (in preparation to changing carriers) and this was very difficult! At first I couldn't get passed a certain point on the website so I called customer service, only to have "the voice" tell me to try their website. There wasn't an option for what I needed to do and no way to get through to a real person. As if all of that isn't enough, I now have a crack in the screen on my new phone, and when I rang Vodafone, they told me no point in trying to have it fixed, just buy a new phone!! Can't wait to change carriers...
28 Dec 2010 04:30:41 PM: have you ever thought to go into a store to unlock your phone ? instead of talking to the VOICE. why is it vodafone problem that you have a cracked screen? did vodafone break it ? NO! so its not there problem its yours .so go get it fixed or buy a new one.

Vodafail have been charging me like a wounded bull for Excess data Downlaods that I am not making.
Their Mobile Broadband is so slow it is easier to use a Internet Cafe down the road than bother logging in.
My phone drops out for no reason and has shitty reception...never mind the way the company offers the same contract I signed at even less money to "New" customers 1 week after I sign my contract.
Customer service staff who do not speak english well enough to understand what I am asking for or complaining about and who don't speak english well enough for me to be able to understand them.
I managed to get released from my Mobile Broadband contract, thanks to the TIO, and I will NOT be renewing my phone contract when it expires in another couple of months...Hate the idea of going to Telstra but may have little choice. :-(

Nothing to add concerning the problems I am experiencing with Vodafone performance, they've been mentioned here numerous times already. However, after waiting on hold for hours this morning without getting through to so called 'customer care' I told lara 'complaint' and got through straight away. This happened twice this morning. So I suggest responding to lara with the one word - complaint and you may not need to be kept on hold for hours. Both Indian call centre operators (Sarah and Dexter) were helpful and courteous, cosidering the constraints and no doubt adversity they are being subject to. I wish you all the best of luck in resolving your issues.

6490 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Very! at 28 Dec 2010 12:14:34 PM
Virtually NO reception at home (and therefore my home office from where I conduct business). There is literally only a tiny bit of reception in one tiny corner of the house about 1 square metre - outside of that, forget it - even OUTSIDE the house...nothing. Frustrating to say the least, let alone inefficient, and time-consuming when attempting calls/internet access or even just answering a client call!! If it wasnt for my landline and home WIFI for backup, I'd really be screwed. As it is, I am losing a lot of money on unused VF calls on the so-called "plan" as I simply can't use it! Its not just my home (Tapping WA 6065 - a popular Perth suburb), but also in other areas like Joondalup - a major local business and shopping district, which should have excellent coverage, and to VF's credit normally does... however last week there was ZERO coverage for two days there!!?? The inconsistency and generally poor reception, dropped calls, etc is simply unacceptable for a major player like VF, regardless of what plan you're on - and I'm on a pretty expensive one...

I am a reseller of phone credit and sell about $15,000 a month in phone credit. Previously with Telstra for many years I changed in May this year to Vodafone for their unlimited service for both my wife and I as it was a good deal and I use my phone constantly for business. The story so far: phone sits on No Service half the day so I can't use it and I work and live 3 km from town, call drop outs all the time (3 on one call yesterday) the internet is so slow and crap that I don't even use 100MB of my 4GB download available, delayed text messgaes and lost ones, customer service non existent, have complained several times after being put on hold for ages to India and all the crap bullshit excuses in the world. Had enough and want out of both contracts and am going to the TIO. Vodafone sucks and should not be allowed to provide a phone service.

I have a vodafone wireless internet, i always get a bad signal I am in the middle of there so called coverage area. The download speed somtimes reaches the dizzing heights of 20 kbps. I know it is cheaper then telstra but what is the point if the signal is worse. Don't get me started with the customer help line. All I can say is unless you are running a buisness and you need help outside of buisness hours or on a weekend or a public holiday. And that animated voice ( what ever her name is) is just so annoying. I made at least 4 phone calls once until I go someone to tell me there was a problem with the network and that was why my internet was not working.

I just had my first bill after two weeks - $92.00. I can't get through to customer care for hours, when I do they say they're fixed it and they haven't, and they're just taking it from my account and NOT DOING ANYTHING! I feel so helpless.

-drop-outs every few minutes whilst on calls.
-inability of callers to leave messages on message bank.
-incoming calls have been lost and not recorded as missed calls.
-low battery life.
I've had this phone for only a month or so. During the Christmas period i have missed out on important reunions with family members. I am frustrated by the constant dropping out of reception during phonecalls. This is absolutely not acceptable and i'd rather not be paying a monthly fee for such a poor service.

I have had phone calls constantly dropping out after a few minutes over the last 3-4 months, out of character billing (ie. consistantly around $80, then all of a sudden $280 with no difference in usage). Bad reception in Kelmscott and Bertram, plus not getting 3G coverage in many built up areas, such as Perth city when we are there on a weekend. Not receiving paper bills in mail after changing address, which in turn leads to my phone being cut off as we didn't realise we had a high phone bill. (no msg was sent to advise of cut off, otherwise I would have sorted it out). Very disappointed. Will never use vodafone again once I'm out of contract.

6275 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is No coverage!!!!!!!! at 28 Dec 2010 09:34:28 AM
I live in town, not rural Margaret River Wa. I must admit to being duped by 'The best deal' hook when I signed up with Voda-phony, although in my defence I did check with them first what they're claimed coverage in our area was like, being reasured it was equivilent to Telstra. (gulible) For the past eight months of 'service' I would estimate around only 60% of the day I have at best a weak signal (1-2bars) the rest of the time NO SERVICE. I thought it unique to just rural areas until I went to friends homes in Balcatta and Ellensbrook in Perth to find then same weak signal. Voda-phony gave us free calls all day a couple of Saturdays ago for compensation for poor service, which is of little use when your phone keeps dropping out. Anyway enough complaining from me just give us what we pay good money for service. Ash

My hubby and I moved from VIC to WA and were recommended to change carriers as the one we were previously with were predominantly for City use so we changed to Vodafone and we can't even get reception at our house, which is in a residential area, i have to walk out to the street, where there's no buildings, trees etc. to try and get a phonecall or send a text Arghhhhhhhhh!!!!!! Luckily hubby's got a work mobile and we use the landline at home but what a waste of 2 x contracts :(
hard to change while you're on a contract too
