26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

Border of Tarneit and Werribee, No 3G and sometimes no 2G. Phone constantly drops out inside house so have to go outside to call people. No good because computer is inside house so end up using land line......no good for business and the so-called unlimited cap is pointless.

3G reception is non-existent. 1km south-west and it's perfect, I just don't live their. Considering the area I live in is one of the fastest growing areas in Victoria I would have thought Vodaphony would be eager to cover it. Even Werribee plaza is a drop-out zone, and they have a Vodaphony store.

Mobile phone companies should have a duty to inform you before purchase that 3G is NOT reliable / available at your own address. To not inform you is a form of false advertisingand providing misleading information. Both of these breach the fair trading Act. The ACCC should demand this practice be stopped.

I'm not a big fan of Telstra but if Vodaphony don't fix this issue ASAP then they can have their phone back and a get one that actually works from Telstra.

I have two phone contracts with Vodafone, Vodafone says I should have full 3G coverage in Townsville. I do not. I called them 2 months ago, and, according to customer service rep, cancelled my contracts free of charge. I found out today that they didn't cancel them, and I'm now being slugged with overdue fees

16199 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Network Congestion at 8 Mar 2011 02:04:19 PM
Since Vodafone made the decision to switch from their 3g network share aggrement with Optus (2100 Mhz)on the towers to make the switch to combine (2100Mhz) services on the 3three network towers.
It seems the Vodafone customer has to share the (2100Mhz) network with 3three,Vodafone and Telstra.
Thus creating severe network congestion issues.

Mr Nigel Dews sends me an email asking me to check out his sorry statement.. I genuinely believed that Vodafone was on track to get it's issues sorted.. Then comes my time in Claremont WA at the Soundwave festival 7/3/2011.. In the 6 hours I spent there I was unable to send or recieve any calls.. I sent 1 successful text and recieved 1 text.. I made one successful check in on Foursquare.. You could claim that there we're to many people trying to access the network but that isn't my problem.. My friends with their Telstra and Optus plans had next to no issues all day.. Seriously folks "Infinity" ??. Infinitely offline..

16195 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is VodaFraud at 8 Mar 2011 12:46:30 PM
I still am unable to make and recieve calls that do not disconnect due to network error within a few seconds. My signal strength shows 3/4 to full yet once call is made I get broken up voice then a few seconds later disconnection.

I returned to the Crazy Johns store at Strathpine and spoke the the Manager and asked what's being done to rectify this situation, they told me it's been fixed and I'm under contract to keep paying the $69 a month for this lack of service or they will take recovery action.

Also when I purchased the phone the sales person informed me that I could change down my monthly plan at no cost.
The manager looked up who sold met he plan and said Oh that's Robbie he told lots of lies to customers to sell phones that's why he no longer work's at my store. If you have an issue take it up with him personally at the North Lakes store.

So not only do we have a company that sells a service that's not functioning they knowingly have sales people working for them that mislead customers to sign up to them.
6 Jun 2011 11:49:32 PM: hmm i highly doubt thats what happened. If you think you can downgrade to a lower plan when your still in contract, you're delluisional. Wouldnt everyone then start on a 'high' plan just to get the better phone free and then drop it down to a low plan??? its commonsense, not 'misleading' information from a sales rep

To try and keep customers in the last 6 months of their contract, Vodafone are offering early upgrades to 'valued customers'. They are offering to waive any remaining monthly instalments left on a current mobile contract so you can start a new 24 month plan with them. As if anyone nearing the end of their contract would be so stupid. I want mobile reception with my mobile.

I normally have Vodafone reception dropping in and out, especially 3G. But I normally have at least 2G reception.

Today, my reception has been terrible. I couldn't count on my hands and toes the amount of times today that I've seen "Could not activate cellular date network" come up on my iPhone!

Very frustrating.

Perhaps vodafone should stop spending so much money on advertising: newspapers, magazines, radio, tv, sporting teams, arranging to drive a formula 1 car around Bathurst, etc, etc and just spend some money on, oh I don't know, giving their customers some reception! Just a thought

16186 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Reception Issue at 7 Mar 2011 08:22:17 PM
I live in East Hawthorn in Melbourne and the Vodafone reception is hopeless. The network can disconnect completely and much of the time I have zero bars and a cross for "no reception" showing on my phone. Often I have to go upstairs in the house to get viable reception. It is hard to believe Vodafone reception can be so bad only 10 Km from the centre of Melbourne. Despite this East Hawthorn isn't even on the Vodafone upgrade list despite Customer Service advising that this is an area with "bad reception".

It looks like the only option is to change to another carrier.

16177 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is working only intermittently at 7 Mar 2011 04:32:51 PM
I have had a 3G connection issue with my Vodafone Mobile Broadband involving DNS Server not responding according to Windows 7 network diagnostics. The net was working fine until yesterday at 8.15pm. Since then, when I do connect, I can load a webpage and then it fails to load anymore after that, often resulting with the network notification icon to display no internet connection available, even if the signal is 3-5 bars. Then the connect becomes intermittent, dropping out due to DNS issues. At times, I cannot connect at all and this results in RAS Error 635. GPRS mode works fine at least. 3G is always dropping connections. This is definitely a network problem, as I haven't changed anything on my pc for the past few weeks. Lame, considering there are apparently no network issues stated under SA in their website's network status page. I've called Vodafone and went through 2 hours troubleshooting, nothing was resolved. I wonder if anyone else had those DNS issues.

16173 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Incompetent, unhelpful, deceitful. at 7 Mar 2011 12:18:10 PM
Wireless broadband:

1.Low bandwidth has often resulted in slow data delivery, especially during peak times and on weekends. This is usually caused by an ISP who values profit above customer service and connects too many subscribers to a network node with inadequate bandwidth. As a domestic user I expected this from a company with a reputation like Vodafone's, and tolerated it.

2.Response has often failed for lengthy periods, probably due to overloading of the Domain Name Servers. This is usually due to poor configuration and incompetent management.

3.Complete failure occurred at the beginning of the year, and required my robust altercation with shop staff, all of whom demonstrated a complete lack of technical knowledge, in order for it to be restored.

4.Connectivity has at times been impossible, suggesting that the system is both faulty and overloaded.

5.Complete failure of the service occurred last Wednesday and the service remains unavailable. No changes have been made to my equipment, the modem is recognized by the server, acquires IP addresses for the host, gateway and DNS servers, and I can ping the servers. At first I was also able to ping other machines, one in Australia and one in Singapore, so connection had been made to the Internet, but client software reported an inability to access the required domains, suggesting failure of the DNS.

Thanks for the site.
Firstly, I tried to question whether I should be on the maximum monthly charge which I was put on by a Vodafone sales person. This is ABOVE my contract. To get out I'm told I have to pay $518.
Secondly, when I asked for help someone at V said they would call me back and NEVER DID.
Thirdly, coverage is poor and built on lies. I am on the Hume Highway regularly (HIGHWAY ONE Vodafone people) and there is no coverage.
I've been a loyal customer, have spent at least $10,000 with the company.
And the treatment is reprehensible.

Getting no 3G @ South Brisbane all morning. iPhone 3GS usually gets 2-3 bars + 3G. Today I get a rare 1 bar + 3G dropping out to 4 bars and no 3G. I've rebooted the phone several times and hit airport mode to reset network. Still having massive issues. Usually get random drop outs of data too generally.

According to Vodafones website, we have perfect reception. Truth is, we have zero reception 90% of the time and the other 10% goes from 2-3 bars then back to zero when you pick up the handset. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! Vodafone is seriously letting us down! And we are quite willing to change provider.

Hi XXXXX,

Thank you for your email.

Please be advised you will need to provide your residential address as the coverage can only be investigated based on the address that you contracted with.

Can you also please provide the nearest cross street to your residential address.

You will also need to provide three specific coverage issues within the past 72 hours.

Kind regards,

To whom it concerns,

I think you fail to understand the actual coverage concern I have raised - it has nothing to do with my residential address (therefore I will not be providing it for you) - my phone works fine at home, along with many other areas. The purpose of my original email was to highlight that you have a coverage blackspot in the area in which I work. I have next to no reception on my iphone when I am in XXXXXXXXXXXX, Richlands Queensland.

This really is a simple matter that could easily be resolved by:
a) Vodafone sending a technician to XXXXXXXXXXXX, Richlands to test coverage
b) identifying a lack of coverage in the area
c) admitting there is a coverage issue and updating your "coverage map" to suit
d) rectifying the issue and improving coverage in this area.

As I have said in previous correspondence (but I will repeat myself incase you didn't read the first time - Telstra mobile coverage is 100% in XXXXXXXXXXXX - both indoors and out side. Vodafone coverage in XXXXXXXXXXXXXX is pathetic to say the least.

I have been a Vodafone customer for many years, and quite frankly if Vodafone continue to send me emails making this a drawn out process and making silly excuses I will sooner transfer my account to Telstra and encourage all within my networks to change from Vodafone too.

Vodafone - I am giving you the opportunity to value your customer and retain me. If coverage in the area is improved I will have no problems continuing to be a Vodafone customer. If coverage is not improved in the region I will no longer be your customer. Therefore the outcome is in your hands.

What I fail to understand is why Telstra coverage can be perfect! And after all these years Vodafone coverage isn't on par.

Your speedy response is greatly appreciated,

XXXXXXXXX

Hi XXXXXX,

Please be advised in order for me to be able to raise a Service Request for our technicians to investigate I will require you to provide the specific addresses that the coverage issues are experienced along with three examples over the past 72 hours for each of the addresses as without this information the Service Request will be declined.

Kind regards,

Emil

> Dear Vodafone,

Thank you for your response. The specific address is XXXXXXXXXX Richlands Queensland - thats pretty specific to me. The entire street! But if you really require a pin pointed located a good place to start is XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Richlands.

Secondly - three examples have been provided previously with the coverage complaint - but for your reference I have copied them below -
> 1. Monday 24/05/2010 - low signal strength dropping to read "NO SIGNAL" on regular occasions both outside and inside building NO 3G coverage at all.
> 2. Tuesday 25/05/2010 - low signal strength dropping to read "NO SIGNAL" on regular occasions both outside and inside building NO 3G coverage at all.
> 3. Wednesday 26/05/2010 - same as above
> 4. Thursday 27/05/2010 - same as above
> 5. Friday 28/05/2010 - same as above

Look forward to hearing your response this time - as I have said this is your opportunity to retain me as a valued customer of Vodafone. This process of emailing back and forth having me answer countless questions that could easily be obtained if you sent a technician out to the location specified to investigate signal strength is not a very good example of the efficiencies of Vodafone, nor is it a good reflection on the value that Vodafone place on their Customers.

Hi XXXXXXX,

Customer (XXXXXXXXXXX) 02/06/2010 07:28 AM

> This is ridiculous. Shall I bold the FIVE examples of coverage issues below so that you understand that I have provided them now on 3 occasions!

1. Monday 24/05/2010 - low signal strength dropping to read "NO SIGNAL" on regular occasions both outside and inside building NO 3G coverage at all.
> 2. Tuesday 25/05/2010 - low signal strength dropping to read "NO SIGNAL" on regular occasions both outside and inside building NO 3G coverage at all.
> 3. Wednesday 26/05/2010 - same as above
> 4. Thursday 27/05/2010 - same as above
> 5. Friday 28/05/2010 - same as above

Obviously all the above mean there is no COVERAGE on a regular basis which means I cannot use the phone nor receive emails etc... because the COVERAGE is so inconsistent in Richlands Queensland.

Hopefully this meets your needs to raise a request now. Where are you based to not understand what I have written?

Regards,

XXXXXXXXXXX

Customer (XXXXXXXX) 02/06/2010 07:59 AM
> Emil,

Within the previous 72 hours the dates on the initial examples provided could simply be changed.

1. Monday 31/06/2010 - low signal strength dropping to read "NO SIGNAL" on regular occasions both outside and inside building NO 3G coverage at all.
> 2. Tuesday 01/06/2010 - low signal strength dropping to read "NO SIGNAL" on regular occasions both outside and inside building NO 3G coverage at all.
> 3. Wednesday 02/06/2010 - same as above

Hope this helps,

Please let me know the outcome.

I moved to Brisbane from Perth about a month ago. I used vividwireless while in Perth, but they don't yet have coverage in Brisbane. So, I had to buy a new prepaid internet service. I went with Vodafone. I've had it for 3 weeks, and I already hate the thing.

It drops out constantly, it never gives me a speed greater than 3kbps, and most of the time I'm forced to restart my computer before it will find the network again. I contacted Vodafone, they said all these problems were caused because I was outside the coverage zone. Lies. I'm actually close to the middle of the Brisbane coverage area, I checked it before I bought the darn thing.

Here's hoping they fix it, or at least give in to my demands to refund me. I'm honestly surprised that Vodafone are still in business, given the horrible service they offer.

Friends call my phone and the ask why i dont pickup or call back, reason the call never made it to my phone at all!! did a test call with another fone next to me guess what according to his fone my phone is ringing, in reality the opposite happens. Nothing wrong with my phone swapped sim with another carrier phone works perfectly! we should push for a freeze on new customers till their network is up to speed. But wait! there is more.. with launch of ipad2 things are going to get worse!!!!

16138 Someone from Somewhere else thinks vodafone is Extremely at 4 Mar 2011 03:47:51 PM
I brought an iPhone, asking specifically about coverage in my home area. I was told there wouldn't be a problem. A week of dropped and missed calls, I get a follow-up from the salesperson, I mention the dropped calls, he tells me to switch from 3G to 2G - sort of making an iPhone pointless. After a year of dropped calls, I finally get out of the contract - told by Vodafone customer services that I shouldn't have been sold the phone to begin with. They offer me a year's refund in costs. When my next bill comes, the money is there, but I can't get it. Vodafone since changed their story and said that the refund was to keep me with Vodafone - which they knew wasn't possible. Oddly enough the phone call where I was offered this refund is the only one not recorded!

Vodafone lied to me, offered conflicting and poor customer service.

16136 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Very! at 4 Mar 2011 02:05:09 PM
It's all about reception and data download issues for me. Really, I am lucky to get 1 bar in my house now (it was not always like this) and using the net via my handset is an absolute nightmare! If the net actually connects (as I always have a time out or connection error) it takes what seems like a life time to access the smallest of sites like Facebook etc.

16125 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Terrible at 3 Mar 2011 07:33:35 PM
I had been using my iPhone as a wireless modem while on holiday in Sydney, and it worked a little better than in Brisbane (that is, it worked some of the time instead of hardly working at all). Over the month, I had downloaded about 100 MB on average per day for about a week and a half (coming close to my 1.5GB limit). Around the end of the billing cycle, I came back home and had a few days when I wasn't tethering, and hardly used my data at all (since I knew I was close to my limit).

So I was pretty shocked when they sent my bill, and said that I had downloaded 980 MB on the second last day of my billing period, and other data that I could not have possibly downloaded - my service is so terrible that 3G in Brisbane tends to just time out and you have to refresh up to 10 times before you can get anything to load, and VHA alleges that I downloaded so much in Brisbane where 3G doesn't work! The amount was more than three times bigger than the most I had been able to download in a day in Sydney, where I was in an area where the 3G sort of worked...

The total charge was $550, which was a massive shock when my bill is $54 usually ($49 + iPhone payment).

I emailed them, and even though it said that they would get back in five working days, it was more like eight working days (and a weekend in-between) so it was almost two weeks before I got the response. Even though it was impossible that I had used the data in question, and they were clearly in error, the best I could get them to do was to reduce the bill by 50%, which is ridiculous.

I want to file a complaint with the TIO, but the problem is that really only Vodafone are the ones who can prove that they made the error, and I doubt they would be happy to help - they are probably pretty happy to be able to charge ridiculous amounts for data that they aren't providing, and there being absolutely nothing the user can do...

What's more, the people at the store seem to have set up my account to automatically charge my credit card when the bill is due, against my will (I pay my bills by B-pay, usually as soon as I get them) and I told the people in the store that was how I was going to pay. So it tried to take $550 out of the card account and when that was declined they decided to charge me an extra $15 dishonor fee on the next bill. Again, totally their fault and totally nothing I can do about it.

Vodafone are nothing but criminals if you ask me. Not only did they happily sign me up when their network has been over-capacity for at least a year, but they gouge me for services they're not providing and that I didn't use.

1) I GET SENT MY INVOICES ONLINE AND IT WILL NOT DOWNLOAD THE WHOLE INVOICE AND IT WILL NOT PRINT, SO HOW THE F*** CAN I GET A TAX INVOICE FOR MY BUSINESS!
2) I WOULD ESTIMATE THAT 90% OF MY CALLS DROP OUT MIDWAY THROUGH THE CONVERSATION - A GREAT WAY FOR VODAFONE TO GENERATE MORE REVENUE - EVERY CONVERSATION IS BASICALLY 2
3) RECEPTION IN MELBOURNE IS SHOCKING, EVEN IN THE CITY
4) SMS AND VOICE MESSAGES SOMETIMES ARE DELAYED FOR HOURS
5) THE OWNERS OF THE COMPANY SHOULD SACK THE CEO AND HIS ENTIRE MANAGEMENT TEAM BECAUSE HAVING NOBODY AT HEAD OFFICE WOULD MAKE NO DIFFERENCE. THEY SHOULD BE EMBARRESSED

Have requested my account notes 4 times now, each time with the 5-7 working days spiel. Months on still no notes to support my TIO dispute. Conspiracy??

Was also informed via email that my calls arent 'dropping out' and look like they only have minimal reception so I cant hear the other person and to ensure I don't get billed on a quiet line "make sure you hang up your phone properly."

Seriously?!?! Hope to be released on parole from my Vodafone contract. Thinking of going Virgin Mobile for mobile broadband and mobile phone service- anyone got any horrors there I should know about?

Does anyone have the contact details for Nigel the CEO of Vodafone? Wondering if he can help me without being flicked around 5 times?

16106 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Who Knows at 3 Mar 2011 10:28:15 AM
I find it funny that everyone on here is moaning and complaining about Vodafone, Some of these people have just signed up in the past month or so, do they not read the papers, listen to the news and look into the network that they are signing up to? There has been enough media coverage about Vodafone over the past 6 -12 months.

I also find it funny that most of the people on here seem to think that it is ok to use foul and abusive language in their posts. Would you speak like that to someone at the TIO? Would you also refuse to talk to the TIO if that person is Indian? I doubt it, So why do we all seem to be so annoyed that we are speaking to an Indian on the other end of the Phone? They are also people and they are in fact trying to get a resolution to your problems, so I think it is time that we spoke to them with a little respect and humility.

I agree with most of the comments on here, VODAFONE are having network problems, it is effecting a number of people, each of us deals with this in different ways, I was 12 months into a 24 month agreement with a iPhone 4, It cost me $850 to terminate my contract, however it was money well spent in my eyes, Everyone has a choice, You can all terminate your contract, or you can all carry on moaning and complaining until your contract expires and you have spent the same amount for a sub standard service.

30 Mar 2011 11:26:40 AM: That's very true. Aussies are whingers.
2 Apr 2011 02:22:17 PM: Fool. Why pay $850 to terminate a contract when you are getting sub-standard service? You should have gone to the TIO. Soft-touches like you just encourage the corporates to screw their customers.

So I have finally cracked it with very poor coverage for phone calls and 3G for some months in the Sydney CBD, North Sydney and Pyrmont area, and lodged a complaint with the TIO. I have taken about 20 screen shots as evidence of my issues and they just confirm what everyone else is experiencing. Voda today told me I could cancel my contract after a 50% discount for a total of $590.... this was after offering me a $65 credit for my issues, yes $65.

I'm concerned how long it will take for the TIO to action given the volume, but have had enough.

16103 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Worst ever! at 3 Mar 2011 07:30:06 AM
The 3G coverage is terrible and seems to be getting worse and my calls drop out ALL the time. I continually have to switch my phone off and on to get it to find the service. I work in Parramatta and live on the North Shore and the coverage is equally bad all over. I was told by the ever-useless call centre that it's because i am using an iPhone, will they never tire of that rambling?
I have the latest software, my husband, who is on telstra has NO problems at all!!!!
I phoned customer Service yesterday and had to phone 5 times as the call kept dropping. The guys I spoke to on the other side didn't know that Sydney is a city, they kept asking me to quote the postocdes of the suburbs I was having trouble in, I said "ALL of Sydney", the guys said "I only have North Sydney and Sydney here, are you having trouble in both places".
After 5 phone calls where you have to continually give them your mobile number and pin number - so they can identify you!!! (what's up with that???) - I almost had a total melt down when the woman told me I would have to pay around $350 to get out of my contract! I told her I would have to keep it then but would be doing everything in my power to make sure that everyone I knew, knows how terrible Vodafone is and that if they were thinking about it, they should use ANY other network!!!!
I HATE VODAFONE!!!!!!!!!!

16100 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Totally Useless at 2 Mar 2011 07:40:16 PM
Once upon a time...I stupidly went on a 12 month $49 contract with VF + $10 for insurance.
Around 1/2/11 my phone suddenly decided not to charge. Left it on charge all night didn't charge.
2/2/11 Charged it all day at work, still didn't budge so decided to bring it to VF Morayfield. Didn't have a loan phone so they told me to go to Northlakes.
3/2/11 Went to Northlakes, Loan phone was not up to par with the money I'm paying them so they told me to go to Chermside and go to FoneBiz.
4/2/11 The phone charged a bit, lasted me a half days worth, was still calm and collected. And was Ok with not having a phone on the weekend.
7/2/11 Went to Chermside Fonebiz, it was under warranty so it was free, turnaround was 2-3 days.
9/2/11 Got the phone back from Fonebiz, was working fine, they upgraded the software didn't find anything wrong with the battery which was initially the first diagnosis. Phone was working fine and charging for about a week and a half.
20/2/11 Left to charge at night
21/2/11 Woke up to find phone not charged at all (again) Still cool and calm.
23/2/11 Went back to Chermside to Fonebiz but stopped by Chermside Vodafone to let them know (they didn't have a loan phone anyway) Guy was rude, told me to go to Milton (their service centre) at 4pm during rush hour telling me that they're open til 5.30pm and they'll fix it in 1 Hour (I knew it was bullshit). So wnet to Fonebiz and told them what happen, said they'd have to send it to Sydney (10-12 days). Decided to just send it via VF.
24/2/11 Went to VF Northlakes (seeing as they were the ones who told me about Fonebiz in the first place). Sent it away, no loan phone want me to go the 3 to see if they have one and by that time I was no longer a cool cucumber, was an angry red tomato.
Rang VF customer service to let them know I have no phone and everything and told them to waive my fee til they fix my phone. They took note and put it on record.
2/3/11 Phone was ready, come pick it up via txt message. So went after work, and guess what,,,,Yeah thats right They couldn't fix it. Here's what their 'report' said,"The handset has been assessed and has been deeemed to have been subjected to physical distress which has damaged the unit. This is unable to be covered under the handset warranty" What utter bullcrap, I did not drop my phone, and wouldn't Fonebiz picked up on it when I first got it fixed?
Day of hell continues..Rang VF customer service about it.
The best they could do... Pay them $125 for the exit fee to go on another contract with a different handset or pay them $293.96 + 60 to get out of the whole contract(might as well pay the $60 a month it all adds up the same)If I go via Insurance I still have to pay them a fee (ridiculous) They think money just grow on trees or they think I have a goose laying golden eggs. Either way they want me to pay them money for services that I am not getting. My old phone is locked on another network and it doesnt have 3g which I'm paying for.
Tell me how is this fair?? Do I have a leg to stand on if I take this further or should I just shrug it off and pay them the $293 just to get the hell out of their evil, money hungry clutches?

I am with three, the little company spat out by smellstra. Since Vodafail have started to integrate the networks I have had reduced coverage, dropouts and slow to nil Internet connectivity. Even in areas (ie. At home) that used to have three to four bars now only have one - the call centre operator I spoke to tried to convince me that iPhones one bar was the same as other brands four bars - what a load of tripe ! I recently spent a whole night with no Internet connection when I was trying to monitor a web site foe work - the connection to 3G was good on that occasion. The call centre blamed it on my phone, which their company had sold me, it was not the phone, it has since worked.

Location is Emu Plains, NSW 2750

16094 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Epic! at 2 Mar 2011 03:47:18 PM
Was a custoner of Vodafone since October 2007.
August 2009 received advice that my contract was due to expire and was offered a new contract and a new handset. I had been happy with the service I had received from Vodfone so (ominously) agreed to renew my contract. I advised I was moving to Perth from Adelaide and advised my new address details so that they could deliver my new handset.
September 2009 discovered that reception at my new home in Perth was virtually non-existant and that I had to travel 5kms to get decent coverage. Contacted Vodafone to advise them of this and to follow-up the wherabouts of my new handset that I had not received. I was advised that Vodafone would complete tests to measure reception near my home and that it would take 2 weeks. I was also advised that I should have received my handset by now as it was delivered to my address in Adelaide. I told them I had advised them I was moving and had given my new address details but these changes had not been made on my account. Vodafone advised they would resend my handset to my Perth address.
Given the poor reception I had at home I signed up to a Telstra contract and redirected my Vodafone number to the Telstra number so that I could receive calls - I was looking for work at the time and had provided potential employers with my Vodafone number some weeks before.
In November I received an account addressed to my Adelaide address via mail redirection. I AGAIN contacted Vodafone to update my address details and to enquire about the tests regarding poor reception. I was advised they would contact me in this regard as soon as they could. I then, rather stupidly it would seem, paid the account in full.
In February 2010 I received another bill addressed to my Adelaide address. I had not received any further contact from Vodafone regarding the poor reception or the handset and had not received any calls from Vodafone despite the diversion to my Telstra number still being active. I (erroneously it seems) assumed that the contract was null and void as i had not received any service of any reasonable level since the renewal of the contract in August 2009.
I had not contact from Vodafone for 10 months until...
December 2010 my sister has a chance encounter with the new tenants living at my old address in Adelaide who provide her with 2 letters - 1 is an account from Vodafone. The other is advice that they have passed the matter on to a Debt Collection Agency. Fed up of the poor service I had received using the Customer Service Line I decided to email Vodafone. This also allowed me to keep a written record of my contact with them. I sent the email on 24/12/2010. I received no response.
On 25/2/2011 I sent another email to Vodafone seeking a response to my email of 24/12/2010.
On 1/3/2011 I received an account from Vodafone for $638 being the outstanding amount for "service" and a cancellation of contract fee chharged to my account in December 2010. Absolutely fed up I called the Customer Service Line and speak to a CSO. He was perfectly polite and listened very patiently as I relayed the whole story to him. He advised I needed to call the PDR department on 2/3/2011 so that they could resolve the issue. I asked if he could update my address details to show my Perth address (the 4th time I had asked Vodafone staff to do so) and he told me he couldn't do that!!
Today I call Vodafone again. The first time I got through the call was disconnected mid-sentence. The second time i got through I spent 1 hour speaking to 4 different people before I finally got to speak to a manager. He advised me that, as I had "failed to advise my new address details" I was liable for the full amount. I told him I had advised my details on numerous occasions but that they continued to send accounts to Adelaide instead of Perth. He then told me that it was my fault for assuming that I didn't have a contract with Vodafone anymore. My argument is, if I never received a handset, was not receiving accounts and had no reception, why wouldn't I assume my contract had been cancelled! He went on to tell me that Vodafone's records are accurate and that he can see no record of me contacting Vodafone to advise them of the issues I was experiencing. I asked if he had any record of the contactmade my Vodafone to me in August 2009 when my contract was renewed...he said he DIDN'T!!! I asked if there was any record to show that I had never received the handset. He advised he would have to look in to that and asked if he could call me back in 5 minutes. I waited 2 hours for him to call me back and when he did he told me he would have to call back again on 3/3 as he had meetings to attend.
I have since lodged a complaint with the TIO.
Unbelievable!!!

16083 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is slow as sheet at 2 Mar 2011 02:27:15 PM
Mobile internet has been very very very slow for me. Some other annoying things are the marketing txts and inefficient prepay topup service.

Have sent a email to vodafone:

Im am using an iPhone 4 with vodafone prepay.

Have tried resetting the phone.
Loading websites is very slow and mostly times out. Any applications that use data wait a long time when trying to access the internet.
This is consistent across most of Melbourne even with full 3G signal.
When placed next to a phone connected to the telstra network the telstra one will take around 3 seconds to load a web page, the vodafone one takes minutes.
This has been happening for a long time now.. more than three months.

The mobile internet service you are currently providing me with is unusable and has been for some time. This is unacceptable. Please resolve immediately.

16078 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is The worst network + service in the world, literally! at 2 Mar 2011 12:27:32 PM
Over the last 10 years I have used half a dozen carriers across 100+ locations across 4 continents and 10+ countries. Vodafone is the drag of the drags. My service is often unavailable across sydney metropolitan area. On occasions I have had no service for hours where I work in the Sydney Darlinghurst area - which is one of the most densly populated in Australia, so shoudl ahve *outstanding* coverage; after 1h+ trying to get through to somebody vaguely informed at Vodafone I was told that they knew nothing, that nothing could be done and my call got dropped!!! I find the customer service to be slow, monumentally incompetent, usually passing me from one person to another, virtually always loosing my call. The use of off-shore slave labour as call center solutions is nothing new, and I have certainly had many competent/pleasant experiences, but the Vodafone staff are totally clue-less every single time (my good experience in this area was, surprisingly, Telstra, whom I use for my Internet - their call centre staff in the Phillipines were excellent - and *no, I do not work for Telstra, or own shares etc...*).

Bottom line. Vodafone is in abysmal state. The responsibility rests squarely with the top-level management, including the CEO. The only way this company is going to change is if the management team is replaced with people who get the fact that they have *serious* problems, and bring some new ideas. If I was a Vodafone shareholder, I would be asking why the CEO has not been replaced by now - nothing personal, I don't know the guy - it's just basic accountability!

I'm not complaining to much because I have an iphone 4 that I am on contract with Telstra and have had no problems with them. I have telstra cable internet and been very happy with 30mb connection. I use to be with optus and even they were better than this. Vodafone your going to fail very soon if nothing is done ASAP. I'm using the vodafone phone tethering now while I'm typing this messege. I opened up a dialogue with Vodafone (Aus) customer service centre last December complaining about the incredible drop in coverage and in particular 3G coverage in my home suburb of Croydon Park (SA, 5008). Stated how 3 months prior I had excellent data coverage. Then it all went South right at the same time Vodafone issues went public. Vodafone and I determined through their helpdesk my iPhone 3Gs or Sim wasn't at fault. Was told to wait for a resolution on Jan 6!! Hadn't heard anything back so I contacted them earlier this week (end of Feb) and got the reply of `your upgrade options'.

I mean WTF? Seriously? They are charging me full price for 3G coverage that doesn't work and now they have the gall to ask me to upgrade?

Pathetic. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

16019 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is revolting at 27 Feb 2011 08:20:28 PM
after facing many issues with Vodafone coverage, Vodafone came to the conclusion that I lived in a "poor coverage area" (even though I live metres from Sydney Airport). I was offered 50% off my bills for the rest of my contract but I declined and insisted on my contract being terminated. To avoid a cancellation fee I was instructed to return my iPhone 3GS in a special pack they sent out to me.... Weeks later I received a bill for the total amount of my contract. a bill for $414 + cancellation fee of $200. VODAFONE NOW DENY HAVING ANY DEALING WITH THEM even though I have a letter explaining the process I have just gone through. I refuse to pay my bill, its been 3 months and nobody has chased me for it.

Even though it says we are in full coverage here in Ellenbrook in Perths north the coverage here is poor. Can not make or receive calls. Reception jumps up and down from nothing to half then back to nothing.

Just outside the suburb we can get great reception. Vodafone have said they have upgraded the phone towers but if they have it didn't work. I suspect its lying.

Australia has become a monopoly. Money talks, big companies pay for things they want people to hear. Paying for advertising on tv limits what they can say. That's why we have the accc, what do they do fuck all. If I've got a problem with a service that I am paying for in australia it should be handled with Someone in Australia. If that person has my personal details or tells he's mate, Australian authorities have no control to do anything about it. The government is great at taxing every Australian perhaps they should start taxing security issues. When a company like vodafone Australia can rip off every day australians and not be shut down is a joke. Their 3G service is useless, their 2G network is not much better.

My phone calls keep dropping out. My Internet never work and when it dose it takes forever to load
I have been trying to fix this problem since September 2010. Every time I've called to make a formal complaint they keep putting me through to the network service department and straight away it hangs up on me. They have kept me on hold for more than 1hour and 45 minutes and just recently they put call barring on my phone. I just paid $327.14 to unbar it. I will be going to port my number over to telstra very soon. I'm absolutely disgusted with there service. I have been with vodafone for a good solid 10 years. I will never in my life sign up with them again. I am in the middle of talking to my lawyers about taking legal action against vodafone. I've never had a problem like this before and the worst part is that I'm running a business and i lost a $1500 engraving job because it took 2 days to receive an email to my iPhone.

I'm from Ascot Vale in Victoria. At least I can keep my friends (using other networks) amused with the truly ridiculous antics of Vodafone/3. Constant call drop outs, no reception, poor missed/delayed texts, uncontactable "customer service"... well, hang on; that's not exactly true. I can receive and make calls - if I go into the backyard and lean against the clothesline, or stand in the middle of the road. And I have been able to contact "customer service" on a couple of occasions. After waiting so long I've been able to mow the backyard. Twice - the grass re-grew. They could possibly be providing a fantastic service, but just in a different language. An effective tactic, that one. Well, to be fair, I did speak to someone in customer service once who spoke English. They explained to me that the problems were either (a) in my imagination or (b) could be solved by immediately upgrading my phone (and did they have a deal for me!!). I particularly loved the suggestion that, if I experience loss of reception, I should call them immediately. Firstly, if I have no reception, how do I call? And second, by the time anyone answers the phone, we'll likely have revolved several times around the sun. Funny, my partner's phone (other provider) has no problems at all(oh, unless trying to speak to me), and has never needed to call customer service. Now that's an idea!

After numerous problems with coverage and service, I called VF early in February to ask them how I go about cancelling my account. They said that they would do an investigation on my address (home) and if they couldn't offer me a better coverage, they would let me out of my contract. They promised to call me back within 5 working days to advise. 2 weeks later, no call back. I called again (after switching my phone off and on again 3 times as it wouldn;t work) and spoke to a woman who was very rude, she told me that VF Tech Support had called me on 11th February and explained everything to me. I told her that I had received no calls from VF to which she continually told me I was incorrect and repeated the same thing over and over. She then told me that they have coverage problems in Freshwater (despite the fact I usually have 5 bars and 3G) and would be fixing within a month. When asking her again "how do I go about cancelling" she transferred me to another department for which I spent 50 minutes on hold before my phone dropped out. What do you do? Frustrating Coverage, woeful irreverant service, continual LIES.

I'm in Adelaide, near Victoria Park Racecourse. I was on Virgin for 5 years with no problems at all. Switched to Vodafone when I bought the iPhone 4 in September. Since then nothing but trouble. 3G network rarely ever works, and have to keep on 2G to get calls and use Data. The past few days I have had no Data coverage on 2G either, and the few calls that did get through dropped out or were full of noise... Totally useless network! It has to be bad when you can't get a reception in the heart of a major city!

I finally got out of my contract today. Email vodafone and report your drop outs. Keep a log of them. After they tell you to switch to 2G because their network is crap. Then report it to ombesman, the link is on the Vodafail main page. They will then let you out of the contract. The last three months have been embarrassing, trying to do business with a phone that makes you look like a dick. Aswell as the drop outs, no service, no Internet, no email, I have also had crosslines. I heard a bloke talking to he's bank, I had people ringing me and talking to someone else, I had messages telling people that my phone was disconnected.
After all this and being a loyal customer for 8 years. I wasn't even given an apology, after vodafone having to get back to me within 10 days by the ombesman, they did it on the last day. Thanks vodafone.

I have been with Vodafail for a long time now and recently upgraded while living for about 6 months or so in Tasmania. I on the phone said to the sales guy, 'we are moving to Sale/Traralgon area in 6months time can you make sure we have coverage'. His response was that we should have no problem. The coverage maps suggest this also.

However, once here, I was confronted with constant call drop outs, poor quality calls, awful data and various other connection issues. I called, got put on hold, put to technical department and then finally to the retention team. I told them of my woes. The rather scornful bloke on the other end basically said he wasn't cancelling my contract because my conversation with the sales guy was never documented. I protested saying that the coverage maps said we would have full and unabated coverage. He said that he was sorry and offered me to change to the unlimited plan (45 per month) and we would have this free for two months. I said to him thanks, but this means nothing if our phone is constantly dropping out and being a pain. I then told him I'd take it further. He said I couldnt' go any further but him.

I called complaints later and spoke to an English guy (from the UK) and he said sorry a million times before suggesting (surprised me) to go to the TIC....so here I am. Nice phone, beautiful two months free...but a coverage that is so awful I may as well try and establish my own network by launching some satelittes. With 18months left on my contract, I can't tear it up unfortunately...

Woe to Vodafone, the worst telecommunications company..and that's saying something considering we have Telstra....

Having spent quite some time trying to sort out my phone service - which has not improved at all I am now 'trying' to sort out my USB Modem. I get Poor or Very Poor reception where I live and for a while have not had a problem. However there was a two week period recently where I could not connect to the Internet at home, it was working last week and now it isn't again! As I am working (or trying to) work from home it is extremely frustrating. I have to get to the local library and use their computers if I need to do anything involving the internet.

I phoned Vodafone technical services this morning and was connected to an operator after a 12 min wait, we were on the call for a total of 20 mins when my call failed - no one has attempted to call me back so I guess it is up to me to phone back, make a cup of tea and 'wait'.

I am not happy with the phone service, the USB Modem and the lack of any helpful service from Vodafone and want out of my contract.

Last year November, I chose not to be ripped by Telstra anymore. I switched to Vodafail considering the advantages (iPhone4 paid out in 2 years, $500 worth of calls, 1.5Gb internet). How would I know Vodafail was indeed a fail? I suffer with 3G reception in Melbourne CBD. How come your phone shows full bars of 3G reception and takes ages to load a simple website? Gotta be VODAFAIL. How come your calls drop when you walk on Collins Street in Melbourne CBD? Gotta be VODAFAIL. How come you check your phone at home in Caulfield North and find it searching for carrier? Gotta be VODAFAIL. The sad thing is. We live in Australia, the so called 1st World Country. And you really have not many true alternatives in mobile communication. You either bend over for Telstra, or get a crap treatment by others. Proud to be an Australian indeed.

been having intermittent coverage on both mobile internet and mobile phone for days, had no coverage for 13 hours yesterday. wanted to cancel my mobile broadband contract and was able to contact vodafone only when coverage was back... because it is my only source of communication.

however i was told that i need to find a telephone to contact vodafone when i was not able to connect to the internet. first, the waiting time to get to a customer service person on the other end takes a really long time, secondly, that person would most likely transfer you to another department whom you would need to repeat your issue to (again). without vodafone coverage in my area, i'd be spending a bomb on calling vodafone from another telco.

thanks for the inconvenience.

I forgot to mention,
Few months I think around November 2010, I purchased a vodafone 3g usb dongle (prepaid) and was trying to connect. The connection was a bit low and I called up vodafone customer service. AFter the usual waiting to be answered, the guy at the other end asked me
" Is there a tree near your house?"

I found the question really silly and asked why? and the reply was "because sometimes that obstructs the 3g waves"

Hmm... makes complete sense to even break the walls of my house so that I get better reception (sarcasim intended just incase vodafone still doesnot get it).

I am writing this to understand if any of the problems that I have mentioned are stille existing?

I used to be with Vodafone, but gave up on them largely because 3 problems

1. No network coverage in shopping centre. Even Virgin/ Optus gives me excellent coverage standing at the same location within a shopping centre.

2. Calls to vodafone customer service would take 25 minutes minimum before the call is answered by a human at the other end.

3. No Network for most of my train journey between Sydney and central coast. Painful experience.
20 Feb 2011 10:59:05 AM: all of these things are still problems to this day. vodafone isn't issueing compensation (or even a decent apology to customers*) so you have to go and claim it for yourself. compain to the telecommunications industry ombudsman (complete their form on line) and sign up the online form at piper alderman to get compensation.

*the apology issued was on the vodafone blog (gee, I tend to visit that blog everyday of the week!), and, in it, Nigel Dews tried to paint the situation as a law firm "drumming up business". NOT EVEN A PROPER APOLOGY!!! FU VODAFONE!!!

For the record I hope that Vodafone get sued SO SO BAD!!!!

We have two iphones with vodafone. They tried to tell me it is the phones that are the problem. We get about 90% dropouts, but can't use the phones at home because there is dodgy reception, I spent 80 mins today with various depts. and got the almighty runaround, even though they acknowledged that they had network problems. Their solution was that they would 'investigate' but would not give a time frame. I got really p'd off when the line dropped out halfway through the call to their technical dept. When the guy phoned back about an hour later, he told me I had been on the phone, as he couldn't get through Told him that was typical of my experiences, phone wasn't engaged, just showing No Service. Their latest solution is that I should get another plan with another provider for 3 months while they sort the problem and they won'r bill me. WHO IS THE IDIOT HERE?

15734 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is the pain continues....... at 18 Feb 2011 06:29:15 PM
Ok, So back in the beginning of December I was lucky enough to get out of my 3 vodafone contacts only 10 months In. I made the decision to port to Telstra and have had trouble free mobile since then (thus proving it was their network and nothing to do with the handset) Voda agreed that to waive all termination fees if I sent back the handsets. They made a note of this in the customer notes (which I now have a copy of thanks to a helpful Vodafone store). They sent me bags and I sent back the handsets the same day - that was more than a month ago.

However... I then received a bill for just under $3000.00 for contract termination fees and two subsequent overdue notices. I have called Vodafone three times so far in regards to this (at my expense being on hold now that I cant call 1555 free). All times they have acknowledged that there are notes saying that I have been given authority to cancel for free but for some reason they cant seem to translate this into their billing system. I keep getting told to just ignoor it. And that someone will sort it out.

Once customer service rep actually told me that my service had been suspended for unpaid bills!! HUH!!! Seriously how stupid are they - I am not with voda anymore!!!!!

Now I am seriously worried that they are gonna say sell the debt to a debt collecting agency or put a black mark on my credit rating.

I have just raised this with the TIO - hopefully they sort it out. But has anyone else had this problem after they were told their contracts would be terminated without exit fees?
18 Feb 2011 07:41:07 PM: Yep I had that one with one of my phones.

I actually used their facebook team (more about that experience at a later date) and I made it very clear to that team that the agreement was , return phones - contract cancelled. Then the bill came through...........

I simply said I would not be paying the amount as per our agreement (Which I had in writing), a day or so later they wrote back to say all good contract cancelled.

I have still kept all the documents/emails as I feel 100% certain I shall need to use them again.

One other observation, the mere mention of the TIO appears to get things done.

You will be fine!

Don't know where to begin - long term problems with both customer service and coverage. Latest problem? Noticed that I had a direct debit coming out of my bank account from vodafone which I never permitted - I have never given any company permission to regularly direct debit my bank a/c. Vodafone had my credit card details after I made a one off direct debit last year. Phoned up to complain and request that my contract (due to end june) be cancelled due to this issue and other extensive problems and instead of honouring my request to cancel the contract, they offer me a 'free handset upgrade' and suggested an iphone. However I find later that the 'free' upgrade was only if I agreed to another 12 or 24 month contract - so not really 'free'! During this phonecall I had to speak to numerous different departments and each time I was transferred to the next department, the phonecall was disconnected. I would wait for a cbk just in case but after waiting for a bit, I would phone back and be told I would have to wait or get a cbk. I would select the cbk option and when somebody would finally call me back, the call was disconnected again. I was getting so freakin annoyed. I was on the phone to vodafone on and off for around 3 hours and I had to phone them around half a dozen times during this time due to dropped calls. I am constantly having businesses, friends and family claim that they have been trying to phone me with no success, however no missed calls appear on my phone - occasionally a voicemail comes through hours or days later. The internet coverage is crap. I'm so sick of the vodafone pain...........................there are real staff working for vodafone - they just appear to work in another country, NOT australia.

'The telco says it has since increased the capacity of its network and resolved most of the major issues around dropped calls and delayed texts and voicemails.'

This shows that they no longer deserve any patronage from anyone. Nothing has changed at Vodafone but they are constantly trying to make people think they have changed.
18 Feb 2011 09:44:56 PM: I am really glad they gave ppl free calls. It's crap that they can't get their sh*t together and let ppl recharge, but at least this time when they stuffed up they admitted to it and gave ppl something back.

If this had happened 3 months ago (it all changed thanks for vodafail.com) then they would have made ppl call india and chat to Reggie for 3 1/2 hours, only to be told that nothing was wrong and it was all in their head.

I will never use vodafone again as long as I live, but good on them for doing one, very very small thing right (for once!).

Whe I tried to cancel my vodafone account they asked why and I said poor coverage and not getting sms alerts.

The lady told me that I would have to speak to technical services before I could cancel.

I told her I did not need to do that and I am not helping them troubleshoot their network issues (which are clearly documented).

After 3 more transfers a guy cancelled my account.

I can't believe how much the telemarketers are in my opinion are deliberately misleading customers into thinking they have to speak to tech support before cancelling.

Looks like to combat the mass exodus they are making it harder for people to cancel.

This is dishonest and in my opinion immoral.

What a disgrace. Sad to see a company I liked so much revert to dishonest tactics like this.

Shame vodafone, shame..
