26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

27 Dec 2010 09:05:45 PM: Most of the time, we dont come to realise that the phone is not accessible. Only when one checks by calling the phone, one realises that phone is not accessible even though its turned on. Very, very serious problem with vodafone reception. After about 3 months of our usb internet not working properly and ringing Vodafone multiple times and them blaming it on my computer or repaires and also Vodafone replacing my USB and sim card we are still having problems cancelling our contract. I'm sick of ringing up the call centre being on hold for about 30 minutes at a time (I have a life) and then when speaking to someone they cant do crap to help me or I can't understand them. I even tried to ring the head office (in Sydney) to complain and they ended up putting me back through to India again!!! All I want to do now is cancel my contract, but they wont just do this as they have to do an investigation on why its not working (if it frigin worked then I wouldnt want to cancel it). I'm so sick of their recpetion and customer service, they dont help crap and blame it on the customer saying it's their problem. Very much over it now, going through the investigation at the moment and they will most likely turn around and say I have to pay the cancelation fee as they will say it's working like they do every other time. I have put in a complaint to TIO, so hopefully something will be done to improve their shit service!!!! Something needs to be done!!!!
27 Dec 2010 09:30:43 PM: I have had a similar frustrating experience trying to cancel my contract. Try to wait and hear Lara give you the optin for cancelling your contract - yeah right! the voice recognition systenm is useless to me anyway - all is does is pick up the noise of my kids in the background - when I spoke to someone eventually, they said to ring when my kids weren;t around - how helpful! i have been trying to cancel my account with them, but a) i am always onhold for hours b)the cancellation team isn't in and will need to ring me back c)if I stay they will give me a free phone, which only ends up being the deals offered to the ordinary public, not a special deal for me and d)they say they need to ring me back to cancel my account - that's their procedure. My procedure is: I ring you, tell you to close my account, end of story.
The website is useless and when you try to ask a question, it gives you an automated response back, after this you get an automated email. Upon responding to this, another automated email. Does anyone real, other than the 3 persons they have sitting in India, work for Vodafone???? It's a pity, I had been a customer for 13 years...

5222 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Pathetic at 27 Dec 2010 08:59:07 PM
We've been loyal Vodafone customers for many years. We have personal & business accounts. The service the last 3-4 months has been disgraceful. When we've complained to Vodafone they'd tried to blame the phones rather than their service. This is despite the use of iPhones, Nokias and Blackberries. The same problems, same locations, the same rubbish.
Vodafone has lost us for good. No apology, re assurance or compensation will repair their PR damage. They've demonstrated that they don't value their customers by not informing us of the pending problems but actually denying they existed. All while still advertising for new business on a system that is flawed. They deserve to go broke on their blatant arrogance alone. Glad our contracts are finished as there is no way we would renew with them.

Have been with Vodafone for a few years, in the beginning it was ok, no problems with coverage and always able to contact staff quickly. Now unable to speak to anyone, on hold for ages, then get disconnected constantly. Have missed many urgent calls as they went straight to voicemail and no callback for 2 days. Bad coverage hardly any signal at my home. Vodafone store staff unable to help me either. So frustrating going around in circles.

Im with Vodafone prepaid and use my credit card to top up each month..Last month, for some reason, I could not get through to top up my prepaid..took 4 attempts to add $29 buddle to my phone.... 2 days later I checked my Bank statement and Vodafone took out $29 x 2... Annoyed, I rang vodafone spoke to someone in India and said they would fix my problem up.. In short they would extend my expiry date to the 13/2/11 instead on 13/1/11.... GREAT!! I though but after 4 more attempts to contact them they have not fixed it up... They sent me a email to say it is all fixed now... So I checked via 1512 and NO SURPRISE still not fixed... How easy is it for them to fix.... I guess NOT !! Frustrated. After many years with Vodafone... I will go to Virgin

I no longer have a problem. About 3 years ago I went to Crazy John's. When I found out it was Vodafone I told the salesperson I can't have Vodafone as I am a Carer and due to the lack of coverage in my suburb I could not be without a phone. I was assured that the coverage had improved since my previous experience with Vodafone some years earlier so I signed a contract. Later that day I was without coverage. The service in and around the suburb of Windale is a disgrace. I tried to get out of the contract on the grounds I was told lies by salesperson. The attempt was unsuccessful. I paid out the contract and went back to Telstra.

For weeks I have missed incoming calls (diverting straight to voicemail) and had been unable to send or receive MMS messages. Thought I had that sorted after a painful call to Vodafone. Today I spent another frustrating hour on the phone after calls started diverting to voicemail again and text messages weren't getting through. The operator finally admitted that Vodafone network problems are the cause and after checking all the settings on my phone, assured me that I won't have any more problems. I in turn, advised him that I had better not because they didn't want me calling again!

Have 3 mobile phone services in Beaumont Hills, (kellyville)2155 suppose to be one of fastest growing areas 5-10 years ago yet Vodafone reception is terrible, never caught up, constant drop outs on Brampton drive until you get on Samantha Riley Drive. Terrible reception at homes on Hadlow close, Comet and Smalls Creek drive. Would expect Vodafone to have a half decent service in Beaumont hills. If you live here avoid Vodafone, can't wait for my contract to expire

Yay for this website! I'm thinking they may be getting the point now!?!
We are so use to a world that is so disposable - including customers. You normally get a 14 year old who doesn't give two hoots about what you really want whether it is at McDonalds or at a company like Vodafone. Gone are the good ol'days where the customer was always right and you actually got service...which is what I don't get from Vodafone. I get service in 1 part of town but not over here, or there, but I do here but not there. Also within buildings, like a hospital, NO service...hhhmmmnn. Other friends on other providers do, but not me??? And here is the best one, a friend who doesn't have a home phone line as they have their mobile on that "you don't need one plan as you have your mobile", has NO RECEPTION IN HER HOME!!! Go figure!

Time, angst, hassle. Not able to access emails on interstate business trip, data dropouts constantly, when I ring, queue and complain, they have seen fit to credit me $20 !! What an insult. Standing in CBD Sydney, cannot access my emails? What kind of service is this. Class action - good idea. If promised service is not given, we should demand it.

5176 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is words can't even describe. at 27 Dec 2010 08:49:07 PM
I have spent two hours on hold to their customer service number, i had to hang up because the phone i was on ran out of battery. I had everything i was going to say and every record i had right in front of me, but no, it never happened because no one could be bothered to pick up the phone....and they're a phone company. BIGGEST JOKE. This was after i'd been in-store. Even the guy behind the counter warned me what i was in for.

They are charging me for a phone i have not used... and the bill is growing even without use. They claim it's a time delay, but why after six days of being switched off is it still adding on costs? Shouldn't they just do it at once and be done with it? Of course not, that is the LOGICAL thing to do.They are also showing me i have an unpaid bill. i have a receipt and over a week later apparently i still owe.

Vodafone struggles to provide decent coverage....anywhere!

The picture messages i send wake my contacts in the middle of the night over 24 hours after they were originally sent. Aren't I popular the next day? Thanks Vodafone. To receive messages, i have to actually send individual messages to each contact before i get just one that could have been sent hours ago.It takes ten minutes to open a single page on my iphone due to the little "Searching" in the corner that makes me want to throw my phone at the wall.

The 24 month contract is more expensive than one for a new iphone 4... and i'm receiving less for my money. Their three months early exit offer is clearly not enough, make it three months into the contract and they've got themselves a deal.

Their "spend and entitlements" page does not update, or does so very slowly ensuring their "valued" customers have exceeded their plan and then still tell them they can text their little heart out.
All in all, what can i say...
Will i be going back? Certainly not.

I actually haven't had any problems with Vodafone at all. I know a lot of other people who haven't either. Everything has its issues you just have to give it a chance or go to Telstra or Optus or whoever and pay through the roof. As for reaching an Indian Call Centre most companies in Oz use them so thats nothing out of the ordinary is it.

5168 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is No Coverage in a Metro Areas?! at 27 Dec 2010 08:46:46 PM
I joined Vodafone about 5 years ago in regional New Zealand where the coverage was good. I moved to Australia believing this would continue. I signed up for a 24 month, $29 post-paid plan as I was attracted initially by the free calling to 3 and Vodafone. Of course to enjoy such a service, it is necessary to have coverage! At my parent's house in Wollongong I kept a measly 1 bar or no bars downstairs despite the house being on high ground apparently near a Vodafone mast? In Shell Cove, near Shellharbour, I get no coverage at all. I literally have to walk up the street holding my phone in the air to get one bar. I receive constant drop-outs. I also receive no coverage between Waterfall and Sutherland which I find ludicrous - these suburbs and those between them are less than an hour away from Sydney! Vodafone however deny there are any issues with their coverage in any of the areas I have identified problems. They blatantly lie on their website and get away with it. Why should I pay for a service that does not work and be involved with a company who deny any issues exist?

I am in the process of working with debt collectors regarding a vodafone bill. I didnt recieve my first iphone bill for 2 months, despite calling them 3 times asking for my bill which of course takes hours because the call wait line is endless and the customer service reps incompetant. I then had my iphone stolen and when i called them was told i could get a new one which i could pay off over 6 months. I then recieved a $3000!!!!!!! bill for 3 months worth of charges (what the hell?? I was on a $79 dollar per month contract) and the new iphone which was to be paid within 2 weeks. Goodbye good credit rating, hello years of terrible service and no help. Im so happy this has been started, i thought it was just me! Its about time these big corporations were held accountable! The best part is that i cannot now switch service providers because of my credit rating

I could not figure out why friends and family had repeatedly told me that they had called me, but my phone did not ring or no voicemail. I called Vodafone (and lost hours and hours off my life that i will never get back)and was told that it was my phone settings and that between the hours of 11pm and 6am, Vodafone were upgrading the network in my area. This went on for months. More phone calls and more b/s from Vodafone. Eventually, i was told that i had to turn off the 3G on my phone so it can work properly. Now i am stuck with slow downloads on my 'smart phone'for email and internet and still i pay a premium contract price. Reception in my area is still cactus between 11pm and 6am. Bring on the fight !

At least every second call dropped out every day for 12 months. I spent a total of 120 hours complaining about my service. It was almost in[ossible to make myself understood. They tld me to turn my 3g off. I told them that if I had to turn my 3g off, they would end my 24 month contract and refund the $10 p/m for the iphone. Finally I had enough and called the ombudsman. I got a complaint number and called voda back. They asked me to send the phone back and they refunded the $130 I had paid for the phone. They did not refund the 13 X $79 I had paid for their shitty service. I never used the data as it was either so slow as to be unuseable or not in 3g so were not able to use it. I am with telstra and its shitty billing system but at least I can use the data and the calls don't drop out much

We live in the Illawarra and rarely get reception in our house :-) We never have 3G internet and often don't have enough reception to make a call. If I am lucky enough to make a call it drops out. Vodafone keeps on telling me to turn off 3G then turn it on, it is just not good enough.

5100 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Bad at 27 Dec 2010 08:25:01 PM
I've had a 24 month contract with vodafone for 18 months. Over this period, I have had regular call drop outs, no reception coverage in metropolitan areas in and around Sydney, late voicemail messages (by up to 3 days), failed text messages almost daily and unreceived messages.
I called Vodafone to see what was going on and after 50 minutes I finally got through to someone in an Indian call centre who said they would transfer me to someone in technical support to check my network coverage. I waited another 35 minutes to be transferred, before giving up since no one took the call.
The second time I called I asked for the payout figure on my account since I was sick to death of all the network issues and I was told that i couldnt cancel my account without paying $600 exit fee despite the fact that the vodafone service was not living up to the services stated in my contract. I am less than impressed by vodafone's breach of contract and denial of any wrong doing and of the unhelpful service I received when calling for assistance.

As of the last 3 weeks I am unable to send messages to my best friend, who is also on the Vodafail network. I am being charged for them and getting delivery reports but she is not recieving them.
SMS messages sometimes take more than 1 day to be delivered. UNACCEPTABLE!!!
I constantly get the connection error when trying to call out, also in the last 3 weeks. EXTREEMLY FRUSTRATING!
Should be able to pick up my phone and call and text when I feel like it.

5094 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is grief at 27 Dec 2010 08:23:54 PM
I bought a Vodafone broadband internet, cap 39.99, in June. I had to go through a lot of trouble to return the service package because the coverage in Rockdale NSW was literally 0.

I then bought 3 mobile broadband plan. I was happy with the service till the day 3 merged with Vodafone. Since then I haven't had a day of normal operation.

This is bloody ridiculous. We're living in a first world country yet internet (and thus IT) is far behind some "third world" countries I had the pleasure to know.

I am paying a lot for something I don't get - literally.

In regards with the mobile services, I have 100% cases of undelivered incoming international SMSs, phone calls from people that have never DIALED my number.
Software/hardware glitch? Perhaps... but that's not an excuse.

Never receive voicemails, text messages come through delayed, having to constantly restart my phone to use data, calls constantly drop out, people can never get through to me and their customer service is just as pathetic as the network itself.

I have come to an agreement to cancel my contract with them (6 months left) without a charge, but they want me to pay off the balance of the phone still. I'm reluctant to pay this considering the trouble I have been through.

Funny thing is, I cannot end this issue as it it now impossible to get through and talk to someone.

Vodafone is excellent in the field of - appalling...
Honest to god I have spent more than 24 hours of my time to customer service having issues unresolved.
I have missed job interviews, meetings with friends and given my stress levels a good kick start.
Billing issues with the USB internet, poor customer service (so much so that they blamed me for the faulty device), extended periods of time taken to correct errors made on behalf of customer service reps, it goes on and on
I also think the merge with 3 has made vodafone coverage astronomically worse.
People with control need to fix the endless problems that is Vodafone Customer Service.

I wish the people behind this class action all the best.

5087 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is So Fail at 27 Dec 2010 08:22:29 PM
Vodafone has to be one of the most frustrating companies to deal with and to be a customer of.

Customer "Care"? I've never felt any 'care' over the phone - sitting on hold for an hour was as long as I lasted before giving up to find an email address to air my complaints. That way at least I could communicate and make the most of my time whilst I waited for a response.

My billing appears incorrect and hadn't updated my 'best mate' number so that I could receive free calls, leading to over charging. Then I find out that after being a loyal customer for a number of years that I care not to remember, that if I signed up to day I would be receiving nearly double the value for the same amount of money. It would be nice of vodafone to reward customer loyalty by atleast offering them the latest deals instead of leaving the owness on us to find out what the latest plan value is and request to be changed accross to the new version of the exact same plan. Fortunately, they would let me transfer my plan.

Don't even let me get started on reception. I can't make a phone call from my bedroom. Enough said.

Can't wait until June when my contract expires.

-most of my calls drop out
-i hardly ever have reception
-even if i do have reception, people try to call me alot but it just goes straight through to voice mail
-i signed up to a $49 a month cap and up it to the $99 unlimited a month, and when my bill came it was over $200 i think it was, i rang and told them it was wrong but i still had to pay it. It was suppose to then be fixed but it happened again, and i had to pay a higher bill yet again. It then got fixed but i had to wait until the next month for it to start.

5069 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Who else hates Lara???? at 27 Dec 2010 08:16:01 PM
I'm amazed at the decline in standards from Vodafone over the years. I joined 7 years ago on the old 'No Plans' and was always really happy - great customer service, reasonable coverage, good deals, competitive prices, and I used to get a present from them every year for my loyalty. I've since gone on to have capped plans for my phone and mobile broadband in the last 3 years, and don't have too many good things to say about the company anymore.

I get reasonable service on my mobile, but mobile broadband is a bit of a joke. Coverage is VERY limited - I've never had more than 2 bars or 'Poor' service. Not to mention it recently dropped out completely for about a fortnight. Right before exams. Thanks. The same thing happened to several of my friends at the same time.

The worst thing though is the customer service. I've never gotten through to the right person/department straight away when calling, and I've often had to call multiple numbers. Setting up my mobile broadband, I kept getting told the number I had called wasn't correct - despite using the number that was in the setup instruction booklet, or calling the number that the previous operator had told me to call.
Recently trying to upgrade my plan, I actually yelled at an operator. Not intentionally, but I let out a loud, stern "NO!" when the person that I had been transferred to to change the plan attempted to transfer me back to the department I had just been transferred from.
In another instance, when trying to find out what was going on with a mobile broadband error, I spent 20mins on the phone, just to have the operator repeat my problem back at me and tell me that myvodafone.com wasn't working. Which I had also mentioned to him (and which it pretty much never is anyway...)
These things are frustrating, inconvenient, and a waste of all of our time. I don't mind being put on hold or transferred if my problems are going to be fixed! I think vodafone customer service suffers from a severe case of micro-management - no one person ever seems to think the customer's problem or issue is their responsibility!

Grrr vodafone. Grrr.

I actually really like Vodafone & think its A great company I know right the coverage Isn't that great sometimes...or whenever its cloudy but It does make up for it with great costumer service(I am aware most of you may not have had this experience but in my extensive experience with Vodafone they have been exceptional) I wouldn't change networks because Vodafone is ok.could be better that's true but everything could hey.I don't mean to undermine anyone's opinions here and I hope you respect my opinion & experience here as I in turn respect yours but disagree with the slamming of Vodafone as a whole.
27 Dec 2010 08:16:57 PM: It's great to hear positive stories and I'm sure there are some happy customers out there. Hey i am no longer with Voldephone as I call them(a la the bad dude from Harry Potter: Voldemorte) but it took me 30 hours to get away from them. WORST service i have ever had in my entire life. Just VILE. Basically, the phone worked okay. But then i would get a final demand for my bill. So i'd phone and say 'this is the first bill i've got it, I'll pay it right now etc etc'. This would take hours to sort. Then i would get a letter from a debt collection agency. It went on and on. I ended up in 1000 credit with Voldephone, still getting debt collection letters and phone calls and spending hours on the phone with them. I still get a rush of blood and jaw tension even just seeing their stupid sign. They are the only company i have ever screamed 'fuq you' down the phone at. It was unbelievably problematic and stressful for something that should have been SO easy. BTW, they never record a SINGLE complaint so whatever the issue, you have to tell each call centre worker all over again. I loathe this company so much. They still have about $500 of my money. And i had to throw away the phone i got on the contract with them because Vodaphone locked it and to unlock it they wanted me to courier it to their "unlocking depot in Tasmania." There is heaps more. Thank you for letting me vent this.

I couldn't agree more with all the comments I am reading. Problems I (and many of you face)
1. Reception dropping out
2. Phone not ringing and going straight to message bank, even when my phone tells me that I have full coverage
3. Text and MMS messages not getting through
4. When I dial a number, nothing happens for a while, then if I'm lucky, the call goes through - if not, just goes back to the screen before I dialed the numebr (this has happened on multiple phones)
5. Every time I speak with Vodafone about these issues, they tell me it's a problem with the telephone rather than their network

Why am I still with Vodafone, you ask? I too, ask myself this very question.

I bought Vodafone Mobile Broadband, prepaid 12G, valid for 1 year. I thought this would meet my needs well.

But I have had trouble getting an adequate signal even in cities. I had trouble in suburban Perth, in Melbourne CBD and suburbs, and in my home in the Wollongong area. In Brisbane suburbs it works - slowly. Not too bad in some Southern Sydney suburbs. In Blackburn, Melbourne I spent an hour on the phone trying to get help and eventually got a signal. (The agent was helpful.)

Overall, the signal strength often seems quite poor, even in cities. I have probably wasted the money I spent on Vodafone. To be fair, in the first week of problems they gave me the option of my money back, but I thought it would surely work well in other cities. Mostly it didn't. So I had to subscribe to Telstra mobile Broadband on a more expensive 2-year contract to be sure of coverage.

I would rather have just had Vodafone, which would have been adequate for my mobile broadband needs, but with my work, I need a reliable connection.

Vodafone fails on so many levels. Customer service (or lack there of) I am not sure why vodafone thinks their customers have endless amounts of time to sit on hold to the custer care number, and if you choose to email Vodafone rather than wate time you don't have on hold to them, there is a zero chance that they will resolve your issue by email. And the continuous drop outs of calls which is so infuriating, and extremely unprofessional when your on a business to call to have to call back often times more than once, the inability of apps to load and work makes makes it almost worthless having a smart phone. I can't send emails from my iPhone since October and Vodafone have still not rectified the issue. I look forwarbto my contract ending so I can switch to a better service provider.

Vodafone is the worst Telco company to date. The sooner they go out of business the better Australians will be better off.

Vodafone sends me a bill to pay for mobile phone service, but the service is terrible so why should we have to pay our bills? They broke their end of the agreement.

Vodafone won't be able to fix it for years as they haven't invested in the infrastructure like Telstra has.

There is only one way to fix the problems

I run my own business and my mobile is my only contact. Frequent dropping out and extreme bills is unbelievable.

No services, drop outs etc are not what I pay for. When people call me it goes straight to voice mail which in turn i get charged for accessing.

The services that you're meant to send a text to see how much you have left on your cap doesn't work and expecting only a $49 and getting close to $300 is outrageous.

As I am typing this - I am in between many dropouts - Dropping out constantly for weeks - I rang the customer services - they said to me that there is nothing wrong with their reception and network status - I don't believe them at all - because some days they behave but mostly every night - it drops out too many times - I am losing patience - but the problem is if i go with another service provider - I have to pay all over again for a different modem and as well set up fee - it sucks!!!
