26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

9472 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Worst connection ever at 31 Dec 2010 09:33:52 AM
I have list a numorous calls which have dropped out for no reason. I think in one month I came across over 40% of my calls have failed half way through. My bill hit over $200 when I have a $69 cap....since my calls fail alot of the time, and used 1.4gb of my 2gb limit...I could not figure out why so much. After being on hold for 1hr and 46minutes I gave up. Went to the voda store and said I need to call 1555 to resolve the issue. I walked out saying if they answered my call I'm sure I would. Another problem is that I loose all reception in places where I should have at least 4 of 5 bars. Turn the phone off and on again sometimes helps. The net is slow as HELL....I mean my mates 3G stick works better underground than me being a full reception area!!!! Figure that one out!!!!!!!

I'm sure if they passed on the company would not hesitate to continue billing them! Give these people away out and peace of mind.

9439 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is phone and internet at 31 Dec 2010 08:40:32 AM
Due to an injury I am working from home, I have internet and phone contracts with Vodafone. I live in an area on northern beaches which Vodafone deams as good coverage. Due to loss of connectivity with my phone during teleconference meetings and my inability to get a signal to connect to the web I have now lost my job as I cannot meet deadlines nor participate in phone conferences.

The worst experience to date would be the delay in text message reciept. My ex husband sent me a text message as my little boy had been in an accident and to get to the hospital I did not recieve the text until 2hrs later! I have requested so many times to be realeased from my contracts as I am paying for a service they cannot provide. For all of us who legitimately cannot get coverage let us out of our contracts. It's like Vodafone are stealing from us. They take our money each month but don't deliver on service.
31 Dec 2010 09:48:24 AM: I love it how people are relying on texts to pass on important information. Pick up the phone and call.

My business partner and I had same phone for almost 2 years with Vodaphone we experienced the drop outs at an alarming rate on both phones especially in the past 8 months or so, whereby every 3rd call or so dropped out in middle of conversations to businees clients. My Business partner has moved to Telstra drives around, has done so for last 2 months not a drop out from his telstra phone. Yet with my Vodaphone phone standing still ai metro area or where even Vodaphone reception is high it still drops out in an instant. I have 5 months of this to endure until I can walk away from vodaphone.
Trying to call them is now a 2 hour + wait that was on 30Dec2010.
Vodaphone from where you are now you can only go up you cant go down any further.

9436 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Gone at 31 Dec 2010 08:27:22 AM
I have just left Vodafone and returned to Telstra. With Vodafone, I had dropped calls and failed calls most days. There is an area very close to where I live, along the Cooks River Earlwood, where I have NEVER been able to make a call. I always get "Call Failed", and that strange rising pitch signal. I was near the end of my contract, so I was able to unblock my blackberry and give it to one of my children, while I got a new HTC Desire from Telstra. I have had not one failed call so far, and only one dropped call in two weeks. And that is just the phone. Vodafone 3G coverage was extremely patchy, often dropping to GPRS and even EDGE, and the internet on my blackberry was so slow as to be useless. It simply was not worth using the internet for anything. Opening attachments to emails took forever. Now, I can look things up or download files quickly. I just opened a 1.1MB attachment in a few seconds. I have usable internet on my phone for the first time. As for cost, when Vodafone phoned me to sell me a renewal, they could not tell me how much of my cap I was actually using and whether I should go for a cheaper cap. I strongly suspect that I should have been on a cheaper plan, but they could not/would not tell me that information. With Telstra, I have halved my plan costs. Telstra may be more expensive, but they were quite willing to advise me to go for a cheaper plan and upgrade if necessary, instead of selling me the most they could get away with. As for their "support", forget it. The day that I went to Telstra, and the straw that broke any shred of loyalty to Vodafone, was the day AFTER Vodafone had those huge outages in Sydney a couple of weeks ago. I found I could not make phone calls or send texts. I phoned support and was kept on the line for an hour and a half, with the support guy in India repeatedly assuring me there was no outage in my area. He made me reboot three times, he made me swap SIM cards with another phone, and had just suggested we go back to factory settings (which would have involved a huge amount of time setting up my phone with BES all over again) when my employee told me her Vodafone phone was not working, and nor was her friends in another part of the city. So there was an outage, despite the repeated denials! I was at the Telstra shop within half an hour after that.

I have been with vodafone for around 17 months now and the reception issues l have experienced in the Sydney metro area are to numerous to list. Once l lose reception my phone often does not find it again unless l power down and restart. I have tried contacting them at least 10 times, but each time l try I am waiting a ridiculous amount of time. When my contract is up in July, I will be out of there asap. I hope everyone else does the same.

9429 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is the devil at 31 Dec 2010 08:11:52 AM
My phone constantly loses reception, text messages dont go through for hours some times. Other times they just aren't received. Just yesterday i left my house keys in a friends bag and it took me 40 minutes to be able to call them and get through without it saying call failed.
I cant even begin to count the amount of times my phone has dropped out mid conversation and i have to call back, which means every time i call back i am charged the 30c connection flag fall.
I could list many problems i have had with vodafone but it could turn in to a novel. Unless anyone on here is a publisher and thinks it might be a good book idea where i could recoup some money i have lost to vodafone i might give it a shot...

The majority of the time my phone doesnt ring but a couple of minutes later the call comes through on message bank which means I have to call the person back. Text messages taking ages to get through. There is a black spot that my line keeps dropping out. The worst complain I have is the lack of service. I upgraded my phone and plan, they sent me a blackberry to replace my i-phone (not my first choice) when i recieved it and did the up dates, the phone blacked out and i could not turn it back on, they sent me a replacement, and the same thing happened but in this instance they requested that I take it to a store, I live in Tamworth and the closest "Store" is 3-4 hours away, I was then advised that the good guys sell there phones, when I got to the good guys they only sell pre-paid and dont deal with the normal phones, I was then advised by vodafone that they would send me another new phone, which would arrive in 5-10 days when after 10days i hadnt received the new phone i rang and was advised that was being sent an I-phone and that it would not arrive til the middle or Late January... so i am now playing the waiting game, oh and i am still being charged for the new handset, that i cant even use.

I rang Vodafone over 5 months ago to cancel my account due to call drop outs, delayed messages and little to no service coverage in my area. I got an email today telling me that I owe them $325.87 for the last 3 months! I haven't used this phone and am now on hold while waiting to speak to their "investigations team" so they can look into the coverage in my area before they cancel my account - this was supposed to be done months ago! I have recently found a way to get out of my Vodafone plan without paying any exit fees. I asked to be changed from Post-Paid to Pre-Paid. They did it straight away and I havent paid any money to Vodafone since. The only issue is that I cannot use my old mobile Vodafone number because it is currently registered under a Pre-paid account (I havent put any credit on this account) - instead I have gone to a different provider.

The pain of changing my mobile number was far less than the ongoing frustration of the Vodafone service, or lack thereof.

Good luck guys!

Magically an IPhone 16gb appeared in front of me. We sat down to do the paperwork and then i informed them i was actually transfering from 3. The Iphones magically vanished again. How can vodafone have such a low regard for existing customers. I have been with them for over 5 years, but after this act of total disrespect I will be taking my business elsewhere.

My GF has just received a photo I sent to her 9 DAYS AGO! It also appears that the network no longer recognises my phones ability to send photos via my mobile handset !! Bad weather appears to also adversely affect the network , why is it that in the middle of the Parramatta CBD ( outside , not in a building) the reception will intermittently disappear , then magically re- appear , then in the middle of a call ( still being stationary mind you ) go back to zero , with the subsequent loss of the call ! I had less dropouts when the mobile network was first introduced all those years ago !!

I've been a loyal Vodafone customer since OneTel went bust and haven't been elsewhere since. I have 2 mobiles and 3G mobile internet with Vodafone. I've been pretty happy in the past but these last 3 months have been bad for 3G in Turramurra and in the last 3 weeks the 3G network has been so bad that all I have is GPRS at the speed of the late 90's on copper phone lines and 486 computers! Contracts are 2 way and not one way. I agreed to pay for a service and not be cheated and lied to only to give away my dollars without anything in return. So contracts can be broken if either party stops delivering their end of the bargain. Basic contract law!!!So Vodafone had better deliver some compensation to their customers until it's fixed or refund or else it looks like another OneTel to me!

I've been using vodafone ever sinse I had a mobile so that's 6+ years. I split my time between Sydney at Uni and rural NSW where I grew up. Service used to be great, but the last few years it has been, frankly, crap. Randomly service drops out, and ranges from full to none in a matter of seconds. Calls drop out, the internet doesn't connect, messages don't come through.
This also happens in Sydney.
Vodafone's treatment of rural people is also a fail. I went on a contract with them at the start of the year, and they wouldn't recognise my rural address, as it was a property name, not a house number. They kept telling me that it wasn't a real address because it wasn't on google maps... excuse me? I think I know where I've lived for the last 21 years. They kept cutting off my phone, and I had to pay to use other phones to contact people, which they never reimbursed me for.
I'm nearly ready to be done with vodafone. When my contract runs out I don't think I will return to them.

9361 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Major Epically,Infinite FAIL at 30 Dec 2010 10:44:55 PM
At first I got the Sony Ericsson c902 on plan from you guys from about 2-3 years ago and i had to return it 3 times due to the phone being a peice of crap. The fourth time the phone was okay, but there was dropouts, message delays and terrible reception, but eh i thought maybe you guys will fix it.

Anyways i decided to stupidly switch to an nokia n97, the customer service girl on the phone told me that its a really good phone. Anyways after a month the phone was buggy as well, dropouts, message delays and the terrible reception was terribly worse and i thought eh ill return the phone and get a new one.... maybe its the phone?

Anyways i got a new one.... SAME FRIGGIN THING!! I even switched my sim card to another phone and its still terrible.

9355 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Was OK a few years ago at 30 Dec 2010 10:20:14 PM
Calls drop out often and callers complain they have to phone twice to get through. By the way the Nokia N8 is not good, keyboard is too small as a consequence of the screen being too small, and the touch screens not nearly responsive enough.
Vodafone will not exchange N8 for a cheaper phone even though it is only 2 weeks old.

9352 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Full Bars...but no calls, SMS, 3G, nothing. Not happy. at 30 Dec 2010 10:13:00 PM
I work in Surry Hills in Sydney CBD and have no reception at all. Everyday I work I enter a 'blackhole' where no signal gets in or gets out. It's not until the trip home from work that I start to get any reception and receive SMS that would have been sent to me hours ago.

I don't use my phone as much as some people but I guess I am entitled to any compensation too. I use my Wifi network at home instead of 3G. I shouldn't have to but it appears that Vodafone does not have 3G. I will be definitely looking into the issue further.

9343 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is vodafone in india should be replaced with people that know what they are doing and care!!! at 30 Dec 2010 09:55:07 PM
well i got into a 24mth mobile phone contract sometime in july with 2 phones.they gave us nokia n97 phones. both phones are not working properly but mine is really bad. i have taken it back for repairs in november and it broke again when I needed the phone the most (my mother fell and went to hospital in an emergency situation) the phone didn't work for me. that was on a weekend so I took the phone to Castle Hill Vodafone on Monday 20 dec and told the shop assistant all the problems. The person there told me that he had written an email reporting it. i had to take phone home and they would call me within 48 hours. Ha! Ha! I had to call them back after Christmas to find out what was happening. I spoke to India. Assistant tells me it was in my records that I was getting a new phone, made me choose one of 3 phones. Also said they couldn't send it out, I had to go to Castle Hill store to pick it up. Gave me their email address so I could write to them to tell them to prepare the phone. So I did exactly what I was told to do. I got an email back from Castle Hill 5 days later on the 29th of december telling me to go and pick up the phone. i went today only to be told I can't have a phone, they made a mistake!!!! I went out of my way to go to that store, and that is the result I got. Aside from that, because Castle Hill has taken so long to reply, I called India again on the 28th of December. The assistant told me to go to any branch nearest to me to pick up the phone. My mother is in Westmead Hospital and I live in Kurrajong. If you see that on your map, you'll see that Rouse Hill is the closest to me going to the hospital. So I went there on the 28th at 3:45pm. The assistant Farze told me their system was down. I insisted he could still help me and give me my replacement phone. After insisting he called India and we waited 1 hour 1/2. He started shouting at the Indian assistant and told her she didn't know what she was doing. (I could have told him that).
Anyway ended up waiting 1/2 hour to speak to the supervisor, a lady called Pinky who refused to give us her employee ID. and refused to speak to me. She refused to give me the phone. I wasted 1 1/2 hours of my precious time where I could have been with my very ill mother, and did not resolve the case. The next day 29th December I called Vodafone India on 1555 and spoke to 5 people after a span of maybe 40 minutes and didn't resolve the situation. The phone calls were made in the hospital bed of my mother.
The situation is: I am using a very old Nokia phone that doesn't even work properly. My Nokia N97 is in the closet because it doesn't work. I am on an plan and paying for it monthly without a proper phone. India office is suks, no one is efficient enough, no one can make decisions. There is nobody in Australia that I can speak to that has any authority. What can I do? if I break the plan, they will charge me. I refuse to pay for inefficient services.
Please help!
30 Dec 2010 10:03:15 PM: Have a look at the 'how to complain' link at the top of the site. It will take you through the process of getting out of your contract. You will end up at the TIO, but it is your best bet.
23 Jun 2011 01:05:58 PM: lady i have had problems with vodaofone too but i dont post peoples names on a public website. if you want to complain you can but like the website suggests we are not trying to target the staff so dont mention names we are angry at the network not the innocent staff who are just trying to make a living

There was no ETA two weeks ago and there STILL isnt any ETA to fix the issue. Giving them another couple of days - then TIO here I go.

Continuing problems trying to log onto my laptop using vodafone prepaid mobile broadband. Have rung once and spoke to 'someone' who sounded like they were overseas, and at the time my mobile broadband had just been recharged for another 12 months. 4 days of dial up speed (actually when i remember having dial up - i think it was faster)
I was told that this problem would be resolved the following day (making it 5 days with next to no service)
Now just short of a month later - I am experiencing the exact same problem. today is day 3 and I am not going to waste my time phoning them (as I dont have a spare HOUR to be on hold only to be told yeah there are problems and they will be fixed)

Today and practically right now, I still having issues trying to even load up facebook. I have an iPhone 4 and have gone through all the troubleshooting items both with apple and suggested stuff on the vodafone website but the issue still remains. I rung up and was told to take my sim out, blow into the sim holder and wipe the sim card and see what that does.......yeah let me tell you, it does jack! The guy was helpful but I am just over the general slowness, dropping out of calls (which again has been happening quite a bit both in the city and western sydney). I am currently thinking about jumping ship to another carrier as the hassles i have are driving me mental. I need a phone to help me call my partner as i am in a wheelchair and travel to and from work via the train (I meet my partner at the station to get home - transport isn't that great in the harbour city you know)and as it keeps dropping or delaying text i just need something more reliable. Sorry i am rambling but enough is enough. Will try again in the morning to contact customer support and see what they say

9314 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Very at 30 Dec 2010 08:34:27 PM
I've been a long term Vodafone user.

Apart from the usual call drop outs, lack of data with full 3G / H signal strength, inability at times to make outgoing calls with full signal and drop outs during data usage, the one thing that has really annoyed me over the past year and a half is their inability to solve technical issues and their willingness to pass the buck.

I first logged a fault with Vodafone over 18 months ago, the problem being a fault on the myVodafone website that prevented me to change phone settings such as call diversion. Having been with Vodafone for well over 10 years, this hasn't been a problem in the past.

I have made multiple calls to Vodafone (I have lost count how many, but would be around 5-10); each time I would have to explain my situation again (apparently it was supposed to be recorded on my account each time but it never was), and each time I would be transferred to someone else and I would have to explain the situation again. Some calls would last over an hour and I have explained the situation up to 3 times to different people on a single call.

Each time a promise would be made to have the issue escalated and resolved, but each time it has lead to empty promises. I have even been told they are too busy to look at the issue.

I gave up trying for a few months but decided to give it one last go, I believe my last call was made in Sept/October, I have since received a $70 credit and two additional calls (the first time someone has actually called me back despite promising to do so on previous calls) from Vodafone to say that they are still looking into the issue.

I honestly don't think they will resolve the issue.

the network is already bad enough. and the customer service on the phones are not either because they do not even have any records of what deal we signed up for. even the the staff members are not fully corporated with our complaint as they do not believe what we are saying is right. therefore they are not doing anything abut it. 15 people in my friend circle signed up for a deal and none of them are satisfied as the customer service people lied to us or did not put the deal they provided in the system. their goes our big bucks and goes our respect and loyalty to vodafone. our connection was disconnected because they were on a fault. 9305 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is the failiest of all fails at 30 Dec 2010 08:02:21 PM
My co-worker and I were at Vodafone Select for 18 months.
The whole time we were there we recieved complaints of poor reception and experienced it ourselves.
We were informed that the reception was being improved throughout the entire employment but instead we watched the network go downhill.
Text Messages are rarely recieved on time, sometimes even coming through the next day.
Our service is constantly dropping out, making calls almost impossible.
Internet reception and speed is pityful.
If a customer complained all we were advised to tell them is that "they're working on it", clearly, this wasn't the case.
My co-worker and I have recently seeked other employment, with Telstra. Where we can now RELY on the product we are trying to sell.
Over all Vodafone is one big failure and we are ashamed of ever working for that company.
Get yourselves out of your contracts!!!

Moved to SA for Christmas... rarely ANY coverage. Head hunters ringing me and indicating they are not getting my emails or my phone is often in an out service area. I think if the service can't handle the volume then they should credit our december bill.
