Dear visitor,
Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant
contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced
by Vodafone customers.
Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders.
You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.
Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.
More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly.
Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints.
The site will remain online for as long as possible as a
reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.
It has been a privilege to run this initiative
and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In
particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their
continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.
You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.
Until next time,
Adam Brimo

Constant call dropouts, and not being able to even get a connection most times.
To top it all off, I'm still being charged for the calls that drop out, and then have to pay again to call the person back a second time and finish my conversation and to apologise (although I don't know why I do as it's not my fault). No help with customer support either by having to wait on the line for over 45 minutes for the call to then either drop out or disconnect.

You all know it.
Lara is a cow, the customer service is rubbish, 40 minute wait the other day only to be told that the 'Faults' team is closed, crappy reception, dropped calls.
The good news for me? Contract expires 19th January.
Screw you Vodafone. Never again!

lots of call dropouts in the jindabyne area over winter 2008 and 2009 ski seasons, but you couldn't even get on to customer service without your call droping out. I was told system is being upgraded back in 2009. looks like its still the same after years of complaining.....I got a free $49 recharge after i called the ombudsman, after spending $150+ on call dropouts over winter....
don't beleave the system is being upgraded, it never will.....still lots of call dropouts in jindabyne.

I signed up with Vodafone hoping that I would not get the harassing aggressive Optus marketing. I am wishing that i could rush back to Optu!!! Agressive marketing is much better than no coverage and constant dropped calls. I often have to reboot my Iphone 4 just to get internet coverage or finish a game that is 'hung up'. Sick of it all!!
2886 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Serious Fail at 27 Dec 2010 02:51:04 PM
I keep getting dropped calls and signals. Phone calls will drop and I have to remake the calls again and hence rack up additional flag fall charges.
When connecting to the web on my iphone at home, I usually get dropped connections and when reconnected, I will find that I am now connected via a third party signal (since the third party has a stronger signal), hence incurring unnecessary third party charges!

2827 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is ABSOLUTE CRAP at 27 Dec 2010 02:36:47 PM
I signed up to a Vodafone Contract in JULY 2009 with the purchase of an iPhone 3GS. In the first week I noticed that I did have better reception at home the 3, which is the bottom of the pit of all telco's. Over the months I noticed a slow decrease in the quality of reception, and now in DECEMBER 2010, I can't get any reception on my Mobile Phone at home. Having called Vodafone on many occassions, the only solution they have is to move around or go elsewhere where there is reception. What Kind of service is this when I am paying them $69.00 pre month on a Fixed Term Contract and can't receive or make calls at home. Add to this the Thousands of call dropouts, SMS messages which take up to 8 hours to get to the recipient, and extremely poor coverage, VODAFONE is not worth slagging on.
I was travelling in Austria in March 2010, and bought a Pre-paid card, with one of their cheapest networks, and never had less than 4 bars of reception, even inside buildings, in tunnels and up in the mountains. This was absolutely incredible, I even had semi reception when I travelled into Slovakia and Hungary. This is what you call service, you get exactly what you pay for. Australian companies are just focusing on making money and providing crap services. This is a problem across the board, Telco's, Gas, Electricity, and whatever other utility service is available. What about the Customer Service Call Centres in India, This is an absolute joke, and invasion of privacy when you have to confirm private information to someone in another country.
Australia is no longer the lucky country, well maybe for the money hungry corporations, which are mainly overseas owned.
Everybody should band together and SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH", Let's get these companies, especially VODACRAP to lift their game, and the best way to do this is by leaving them, the more customers they lose the better. The government is not doing anything to protect people against getting ripped off by these companies, the Governemnt doesn't give a shit, Politicians have their phones paid by the Tax Payer anyway, so they are never concerned.
I have sent a scathing complaint to VODAFONE about my problems, both in writing and over the internet, and if they don't meet my demands, I will just drop the contract, and stop paying them. They can try and recover money from me, and at the same time I will be fighting to recover money from them. Oh yeah, I have also sent one to A Current Affair.....SPREAD THE WORD......

I travell overseas a lot and you are right about the telcos overseas, great service and cheap too, not like these theiving pricks here. Dont worry the big wheel will turn on Vodacrap, they will loose customers, and as dumb as they are, will ask why ??? Go figure..
2700 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is call dropouts at 27 Dec 2010 02:03:44 PM
Currently i am paying $59 cap for an Iphone4 which gives lot of call dropouts and could not receive the messages even though i am in the full network area. Spoke to the customer care 8 times just to find out that i need to repair my phone via three store. I am in regional area where i cant use the promised 1gb internet free usage, Otherwise I would be charged extra dollars on that. At the end of two years i would be paying them 1500$ just to receive 1/3 of the calls made to me.

After battling with a Vodafone mobile and wireless internet service for many months of call dropout and abysmal download speed I gave up and went to Telstra. As much as I hate paying through the nose for Telstra plans at least they work.Vodafone are good on the promotional glitz and have a good website but apart from that forget it.
2600 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Poor at 27 Dec 2010 01:42:55 PM
Dropped calls, poor or zero coverage in excellent Telstra coverage areas. Massively delayed voicemail messages - does not live up to promises made to gain contract. Very disappaointed, however still 12 months to go on contract - I won't be renewing with Vodaphone unless things change for the better.

2490 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is On a scale of 1-10... FAIL at 27 Dec 2010 01:15:56 PM
Signed up at the end of November to get a Windows Phone 7 device. The phone is crap but that's a side issue. I blamed the phone for many problems at first until swapping the sim out to a new phone resolved none of the problems except battery life. Call dropouts are unbearable, data shows up as unavailable even when there's 5 bars of reception, their automated 'customer service' is a waste of time, and I can't disable voice mail which I never wanted and specifically said I was only signing up if voice mail was disabled.

Hi, I can't express to you how happy I am to find this website, finally I discovered that its not only me that i'm suffering with Vodafone !!!
I have 2 plans with vodafone, one for me and one for my wife, and i can't tell you how horrible is the reception, we always experience dropped calls and no reception, I have lost count how many times people call me and when they get through to me they say why is your phone ALWAYS OFF, mind you my wife and I never turn our phones off but its clearly the EXTREMELY POOR coverage from vodafone that is causing this! to be honest I don't want to sue Vodafone for money as much as i want them to fix their bloody stupid retarted network !!!
Optus is not better at all I was with optus for 2 years before vodafone and trust me guys they are the same crap! the only good network with the best coverage is Telstra, but they are an absolute RIP OFFs !!
So if the vodafone people are sneeking into this website and read the comments and they are reading mine now, I say, PLEASE do something to enhance your coverage and services.
Thanks for whoever created this website.

2297 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Data only works 50% of the time. at 27 Dec 2010 12:26:31 PM
I have an iPhone 4, which you kind of expect to browse the internet on, and connect with apps, etc. roughly half of my connection attempts just time out. When it works it's pretty fast, but loading a complex web page with lots of graphics almost never works, or takes over 5 minutes.
Me: Let me look that up on the net for you...
Me: Umm, it's usually faster than this. (a lie but what are you going to say?)
Me: Yeah, well ok, I'll look it up later and let you know.
There's also the occasional dropped call and the dreaded "No Service" (one no services lasted a few hours until I left home).
I'm switching to Telstra when my contract runs out, but thanks for giving my some place to bitch in the meantime. :)

Hi, just heard about this site on ABC Newsradio and thought it was a great idea. Have been a customer of Vodafone for over 9 years and recently I upgraded to the new Nokia N8 having previously been using a Nokia 6220 Classic with no trouble at all (for almost 2 years). Have had almost 2 weeks of call dropouts. dead zones (where I never used to have any trouble before), and a couple of "sim registration fails". I've found that if I have the phone on speaker, it seems to work a bit better but that is not always possible when in public places. Also complete loss of signal for no reason which requires and restart to correct. Haven't contacted Cust service as it's the holidays etc but thought I would wait and see if it improved. Did get a new sim card which sort of helped a little. Thanks for this site. regards, John W.
2195 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is fail x 100000 at 27 Dec 2010 12:03:13 PM
i currently work for a 3/vodafone dealer and the biggest regret i've had this year was moving from 3 and signing up to vodafone. firstly, my number from 3 stopped working, but the number didnt actually port over to vodafone for a few days so i was stuck with no phone and no number over these few days. after that, i had shitty reception (though somewhat understandable as i got the iphone 4), however internet speed was poor. as the weeks went by the call dropouts increased, poor reception increased, internet speed became more and more slower. then there was the incident on a saturday not too long ago where voda had no reception for hours. then just before xmas again my phone cut out service for around 1-2 hours. i work for vodafone and i even think people should steer clear of them..

I have had countless emails (ok, I counted, about 10 replies), and two endless phonecalls which were bounced around, regarding the inability of the iphone they provided me with to receive MMSs
They suggested a number of times that it is not their problem, and that instead, I should contact the service providers of ALL my friends, and ask THEM why they aren't sending the MMS's through
Vodfone infuriates me
Also, of course, I have dropped calls, voicemails not received, and texts which don't go through.

1983 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is FAIL at 27 Dec 2010 11:20:27 AM
Since Vodafail took over 3 we have been experiencing all the same issues as Vodafail customers. We are at a point where we are so over the dropped calls, no reception and other service fails that we may have to go back to Telstra. Unfortunately, when a company takes over another you don't have a say (of course) but in this case, there should be some system for cancelling contracts etc. We left Vodafone years ago and had never planned to go back and now are stuck until contract runs out.
1851 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Unable to call with call dropouts at 27 Dec 2010 10:39:12 AM
I have been a vodaphone customer for few years now. In the last year I have been very annoyed because of inability to make calls when I really need to, call drop outs, and delayed text messages. I have same issue with my wifes vodaphone. Same is occurring with my friend with vodaphone too. It is a shame that vodaphone has not fixed the issue. Hope this website will give them the slap they need.
1834 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Epic at 27 Dec 2010 10:26:40 AM
Ths biggest setback this retarded network has caused me was a series of 3 day late voicemails from a prospective employer for an apprenticeship interview which i later found was a sure thing if only i hadnt recieved the multiple voicemails just hours after the interview was scheduled. Since then on numerous occasions i have attempted to complain after many bounced or dropped calls, but the process is too lengthy and painful (for a reason no doubt). Over the christmas period i was away from my girlfriend (also with vodafone) and every single call was dropped at 7 minutes on the dot! Over the past few months i have deterred 5 friends from entering plans with vodafone. Im not a number! And in May i am a free man! Fcuk you vodafcuk!

I moved from 3 to Vodafone due to their "better coverage !!!!!!!. The coverage may be broader but the drop out rate for calls is simply NOT acceptable. Even in a high coverage area it sometimes takes me 4-5 attempts to call home.

1813 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Terrible coverage in the CBD! at 27 Dec 2010 10:16:37 AM
Living and working in Sydney CBD one would expect excellent coverage, yet it is nothing of the sort - often times I am unable to dial any numbers, receiving an annoying 'BEEP' when trying to dail out. Dropped calls both at home and office are a daily occurance, and I know to stick my head up against a windoe if I want to talk for more then 30 seconds.

Unable to use my phone at home( Kariong), even though i have line of sight to the nearest tower. Even at Work (Pyrmont) the amount of dropped calls make it unusable. I lucky that work has given me a T sim.
My voda phone sits in y bag, cause it just doesnt work as a phone...Only way i can get data is via my home wireless...everything else is useless.

1772 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is No 3G access, call dropouts etc for months at 27 Dec 2010 09:39:07 AM
I have actually being having serious network issues with Vodafone since June this year. This included,
- not being able to make calls
- entire network out for mins and sometimes up to an hour (ie no reception of any type)
- slow to non-existent data services
- SMS that were either not delivered or delivered over 24 hours late
I live in Newtown within 5km of the Sydney CBD and my house is actually 100metres from the telephone exchange, I have direct line of sight to a Vodafone mobile phone tower.
When I complained in June I was told it was a problem with my handset and went through the whole isolation test. I knew this was nit the problem because,
- I swapped SIM into another handset and had same problems
- my partner is also with Vodafone and was having same problems
- I was unable to call friends living in same area who were on Vodafone
After explaining all this to a Vodafone CSR I was finally given an explanation by Vodafone. The Newtown tower was being 'upgraded' which will take a few months so please 'switch your phone back to 2G until the work is complete'.
The biggest issue by far has been the lack of communication from Vodafone. No letter or email to explain what I was told over the phone, no date letting me know when services would be back to normal, nothing.
In short the access to the network didn't improve and by November I had actually found myself working around the Vodaphone problems by,
- switching my mobile back to 2G
- borrowing my neighbors mobile to make calls who was not with Vodafone
- buying a 3G data card and connecting it to a laptop using another Telco's 3G network
I primarily use my phone for business and have been on a business plan for 5 years. The inconvenience has impacted on my ability to work and I will be joining the class action to seek damages and compensation.
Four weeks ago I swapped over to another network after being on hold to Vodafone for over 2 hours. It actually took less than 30mins to swap to the other network.
I don't think Vodafone still understands how pissed off people are about this. When I complained in writing to Vodafone they denied the problems and said they won't be letting me out of my contract.
Letting me out of my contract is the least of their problems, I would have assumed losing our business, we have 5 contracts with Vodafone and have spent over 10k in the last 3 years was a bigger issue for them.

Very poor reception at home. Phone goes direct to voicemail when im sitting right next to it with an "outside coverage area" message. Dropped calls and poor reception calling out. To be fair though I had the same problem with an Optus connection at this address. Mobile Data speed is very poor though in the city.
1726 Someone from Somewhere else thinks vodafone is Epic fail at 27 Dec 2010 08:50:54 AM
I have had nothing but trouble with receiving calls roaming coverage, dropped calls, lack of 3G network and then when I ring to talk to someone I am stuck on hold for hours...when I finally get to talk to someone they tell me it's not their fAult and it's not as bad as what I say?? Then I ask to be released from my contract so I can go with a provider who actually can offer me the service I need and I am denied that as well - yet I am forced to pay for a service that is clearly unable to be delivered as was sold or promised to me... How can they get away with it? They should just release contracts and listen to the feedback from customers - to ignore us just doesn't make good business sense...

1689 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Mega fail at 27 Dec 2010 08:24:41 AM
I was with Vodafone a couple of years ago and they were brilliant. I switched to 3 because they had the phone i wanted, then came back to voda last year. What a mistake. It to 3 days and countless calls and store visits to port and activate my number, and since then I've suffered constant call dropouts, lack of reception, slow or nonexistent data speeds, continually having to reboot my phone to get a 3GS connection, 24 hour delays in receiving voicemail, calls going straight to message bank when the phone is switched on in a so called high coverage area, you name it. I'm going back to 3.
27 Dec 2010 08:34:50 AM: Vodafail and 3 are the same company. Apparently they are investing in the vodafail network (!!?!!!) and not in 3
27 Dec 2010 10:15:51 AM: Btw, most customers dont understand the process of porting and blame the company for delay when it's generally customer ignorance and incorrect information being supplied.
1681 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is useless at 27 Dec 2010 08:21:56 AM
Multiple dropped calls, bad reception, calls dropping out even before answering. Went from a hopeless 3, to Vodaphone. Even worse, in spite of the promises. Can take six or seven calls to comllete a short convesation. I now ask people to ring the landline. Sometimes, this takes 3 or 4 calls just to pass on the landline number ! ! ! ! !
1643 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is It fails about 80% of the time at 27 Dec 2010 07:58:01 AM
Call dropouts, missed calls without receiving the actual call, poor call quality, calling the same number a few times to make the call (cell towers don't respond quickly), constant redial to make a short call, very poor reception in 4509 postcode and no service inside the building in most areas of Brisbane North-side where I work. Vodafone has oversold its subscription and has failed to upgrade the towers to accommodate new connections.
I think NBN is to blame, all telecom companies have stopped upgrading due to NBN roll-out. Goodluck to tll those think Optus or Telstra are better. It is the same shit different name.

27 Dec 2010 01:55:45 PM: Um dude, the NBN has got nothing to do with mobile networks. In fact it is the complete opposite
27 Dec 2010 02:21:14 PM: It is networks like Vfail that the Coalitions Alternative to the NBN Policy relies to fill in the gaps in their plan. Gee that'll work great won't it? Mr Turnbull might get a good connection from his harbour viewed ivory tower with direct line of sight to over 5 trans towers.I'd shit myself with Joy at the 12mbs or 7 mbs that mob BB is theoretically capable of, Often 7Kbs is as good as it gets, and speeds in bps are sometimes the best available, if at all. Bring on the NBN, and don't let any entity at all associated with the Vodabone-of -Contention anywhere near it.
27 Dec 2010 02:33:35 PM: I have a HTC Desire with Telstra and the reception is amazing. I have reception on Fraser Island and Stradbroke Island, whereas my friends who have Optus and Vodafone phones get none. I get reception constantly around Brisbane and I have an incredibly fast data connection and a reliable carrier. I've been with 3mobile before (for 3 years) and was frustrated as my phone dropped calls when it constantly changed between 3g and roaming. Now, I'm on NextG almost all the time, and if not, I receive Edge. I will continue to be a Telstra customer as they truly have a network that actually works.
1635 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is 3 at 27 Dec 2010 07:54:07 AM
Call dropouts on average every 20min, every time I drive over the Gladesville bridge when on the phone the call drops out, and very very very poor reception at Drummoyne. I'm on pre-paid and will move to Telstra soon. From all accounts the other telco's are just the same - with less friends reporting issues with Telstra.
1621 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is 100% at 27 Dec 2010 07:44:40 AM
I signed up on a 2 year contract with Vodaphone about a month ago. I was originally concerned that there was something wrong with my phone when I was continually getting 'No Service' or barely any reception all over Melbourne, including in the CBD, as well as the countless dropped calls. Rarely can my phone hold onto a 3G connection, and the times that I can actually use apps on my phone that require a decent connection are few and far between. Now i'm on holiday on the Gold Coast and it's no different. It's reassuring to know there are thousands more out there in the same boat, but I am also bitterly disappointed about this. Hoping Vodaphone gets its act together very soon!

27 Dec 2010 09:21:39 AM: You don't have to pay if you are not receiving the service you signed up for. Contact the Department of Fair Trading. Goods and services have to be fit for purpose. Stand your ground but be aware that unfortunately the customer service people on the phone and in the stores have no idea that you have a legal right to not pay if you are not receiving your service. Read all the fine print in your contract and document everything with dates, times etc.

I live in the inner south of ACT, and work in the parliamentary triangle. For months now, the usual garbage of dropped calls, not being able to make calls, texts that can take up to 2 days to arrive or be delivered. I also have vodafone for wireless broadband - I honestly can't remember the last time I managed to get 3G, and I have given up using it at home, it takes too long to load and continually disconnects itself.Talk about frustrating. The service is beyond substandard, it's virtually pointless because it's so unreliable. By the way, I don't have an iphone, so it's not that, I use a brand new Samsung.

I am in NZ and having the same kind of issues. Dropped calls being the most frustrating. Delayed texts make planning something via text virtually impossible as you can't be sure the message is received.
Friends in Vodafone say moral is not good as staff deal continuously with disgruntled customers.
My partner's company abandoned VF and took their business to Telecom. Constant billing issues where they would threaten to cut off service despite bills being paid on time, as there was a delay in processing payments. Customer services staff acknowledged this but were powerless to do anything more than send emails to the account people. He couldn't get to speak to anyone other than customer services, mind you, even they couldn't speak to anyone else, apparently. Then he discovered that instead of logging the job, they would delete any record of the conversation so they didn't appear to be unable to resolve his problems. (Well, we assume this is the case, because when following up complaints, no one would know anything about prior calls made. In short, it seems management have totally insulated themselves from the customers experiencing problems and as consumers we are powerless to get them to listen! Way to go, Vodafone!

24 Dec 2010 06:11:29 PM: Welcome to the site, just goes to show that Vodafail is in a global meltdown. Your antipodean cousins and others share your pain.
26 Dec 2010 04:08:39 PM: And yet, Vodafone has( and absolutely no doubt will again,) claimed to have had phonecalls that NEVER happenned. Really, these days, no matter who it is, it is prudent to keep records. Though, it is difficult to prove the non-existance of a phone conversation that never happened without a sub-poena. In your case, possibly easier. It would appear Vodafone are not slackers in deception skills.

Subject: My Vodafone service
Good afternoon,
It's with regret that I write this email. I've been a Vodafone customer for many years now and have always stood by your brand and service as a loyal customer.
The past few months I have begun to question that loyalty.
I currently use an iPhone 3GS and have experienced frequent network related issues with delays in network registration (sometimes taking over 5 minutes to locate the network), call dropouts, call fails and the recent Perth network outage. Today was an excellent example of this. I had to switch my handset off several times in a bid to have the network recognise it's presence so that I could make a call.
I have never had a hardware related issue with this handset, however was considering changing to a HTC phone as I am beginning to question whether it could be the iPhone. Friends and colleagues assure me that it is the network as they too are experiencing the same issues.
My problems with attaining network signal have steadily worsened and I am considering changing networks, even with the cost of cancelling my contract, in a bid to achieve a better standard of coverage in metropolitan Perth.
Is there any update available on improvements to coverage in Perth? Surely with the combined networks 3 and Vodafone there would have been integration between the networks by now?
If things don't improve I would certainly consider the option of changing service providers. At this point in time I am struggling to find reasons to retain my service with Vodafone.
I look forward to your reply,
Michael

27 Dec 2010 01:30:53 PM: Update from me. I got a phone call on Xmas eve advising that a specialist network rep would investigate all my issues. He waived this months entire bill (yet to be confirmed) and advised that I would receive a call the following day (Xmas day) to update me on the progress of their investigations. I queried whether they would be making followup calls on Xmas day and was advised yes. It is now 27th Dec and I have had no update and no calls from them whatsoever. I sincerely doubt that my bill has even been waived as promised. Stay tuned.
29 Dec 2010 01:54:59 PM: Another update from me, got a call from same guy as before in the 'high priority' complaints team (?) forgive me I didn't catch the dept name clearly. Not only have I been offered a waiver of this months invoice but also assured if this doesn't turn out well I will be released from my contract without financial penalty. I'm impressed not only at the tone of the response I have received but the fact I actually got a call back. I honestly don't want to change service providers. I hope this does get better! I guess I worded my complaint email rather well...Stay tuned. PS: Can't really confirm bill has been waived until I receive following invoice...

Vodafone isn't the only company having network problems, Optus has been having a rough time too. The networks weren't designed to handle the massive data usage that smartphones offer. People used to complain that mobile downloads were too expensive, and now that the prices have come down they overuse 3G and clog the network! I was furious with Vodafone for all the things people are outlining below - call dropouts, texts taking too long and no 3G. I changed from my iPhone back to a Nokia and NONE of the problems remain. My partner has an HTC and always has full coverage when my iphone struggles.

1355 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is making me sad! at 21 Dec 2010 02:27:43 PM
After months of bad reception, dropped calls, slow data, delayed SMS & MMS messages I rang Vodafone with one question..."How much to get out of my contract?" After only 10 minutes on hold (I thought that was pretty good), the customer service person who took the call couldn't provide me with an answer (this took another 10 minutes to deduce). She said someone would call me back and quess what...they did! However, this person couldn't answer my question either. They were Tech support. They blamed my phone, my sim, my area (Sydney CBD???) and then said someone would call me back in 72 hours. I insisted that I just wanted to know how much to get out of my contract. Finally they agreed to put me through to someone who might be able to answer my question...another 10 minutes on hold...someone answered...and the call dropped out! This was last Friday and no-one has called me back.
I have been with Vodafone for 10 years and I am sad to be leaving them but enough is enough.

iPhone 3GS - dropped calls, constant "no service" messages when friends with the exact same phone and on non-Telstra providers have full signal, the most useless customer service around (and now outsourced, so even worse), nigh on incomprehensible bills that somehow ALWAYS exceed the monthly amount (I'm on an unlimited plan) and an online "portal" from the 1970's.
I have already applied to Telstra for a Business Unlimited Plan. $150, unlimited. A day after I applied a Telstra rep (from Australia) rang up and walked me through the process, as well as giving me his direct line.
That's called a proper company.

The reception is some bad it is not funny. Dropped calls, no net, just ridiculous.
The lies of the customer service reps, the false tests and the utmost waste of time is just mind boggling.
They cannot possibly continue to offer service contracts when the network cant even handle it!
They should be suspended from taking on new customers until such time as the network issues are resolved satisfactorily!
If you are with them get out... If you are not run...

Apart from dropped calls, lack of signal and most of the symptoms mentioned here, I always pay the bills for two phones on the Vodafone web site which is fine until you are trying to pay the account in the month your credit card expires, because even if you are paying in the middle of September and your card's expiry is the end of September, the card has expired according to the web site. If you try and use your new card which starts in October, then the system declines the card altogether, so you cannot actually pay your bill at all. Even calling and finally getting through to the call center, even they could not help because they found the same situation that that could not overide. So their solution was to extend the due payment date to the 1st day of the following month. What moron wrote that system?

I did manage to get their cancellations department to give me one month's credit and they assured me they're working through trying to get the network issues resolved. Have been with Vodafone now for almost 3 months....and I can safely say that their Service is CRAP! I get almost no reception at my house....calls dropout....and call quality is very very poor. But hey....Vodafone is still getting my $60 every month!! Please help me get out of my CONTRACT !!!!!!!!
1038 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is rubbish blackberry at 19 Dec 2010 05:38:54 PM
As a vodafone customer for 9 years, The last year with my nokia data was fairly slow, however 12 months ago got a blackberry handset upgrade. Worst ever, internet slower, call dropouts, late messages, the works yet my fone showed Full 3G reception. Numerous calls (24 in total), being transferred from person to person to person to whoops we hung up on you, no assistance $600 to get out of contract and now with Telstra Nxt G. Never looked back except always perfect reception and data speed superb. I wish i still had my $600 though.....
1021 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is GLAD I CHANGED at 19 Dec 2010 03:28:19 PM
I am a doctor working in a busy hospital. Was with Vodafone for 2 years, was getting absolutely NO reception in the hospital, dropped calls virtually 60% of the time. Recently switched over to Telstra and I have full reception everywhere and never a dropout. Although the plans are 10-20 dollars more expensive per month, I'm actually using less becuase I never get dropped.
In short, I will never go back to Vodafone.
In short, I will never go back to Vodafone.

i got out not that long ago, SMS messages would arrive up to 12 hours late, phone always went to message bank even if it said it had service, very sad, dropped calls, no reception in so many areas its not funny.......
Im out and in Optus, havent had an issue since, infact after a bad storm a work collegue lost all Optus coverage, rang up, they kept him informed over a period of 3 weeks as they had to replace an entire tower hit by lightning and destroyed, after the new tower went in service is better than before the storm.
I dont think VodaFail would ever be that proactive ever.... goodbye vodfail, never to see me again!!!!

991 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is dismal at 19 Dec 2010 11:13:48 AM
I went to Telstra after Vfone would not fix the problem of dropped calls, service interruptions and dismal download speed, only fob me off with tests and stalling (read go away) responses. I kept a Singapore Starhub phone and it would serve as a check to see if Vodafone, Optus or Telstra had service at my home office. It corroborated my assertion Vfone did not have continuous reliable service in my neighborhood. Complaining took too much time, offered insults to my phone skills and was a waste of time. I now want to dump my account but have not done so as I fear another imbroglio. I was with Vodafone for 15 years (remember Digicall?) and it worked well overseas but in the year 2010 it did not work in my neighborhood satisfactorily.
977 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Pathetic at 19 Dec 2010 09:35:30 AM
Sat 11th Dec - Perth CBD - 1130 to 1930 that night phone says full service yet when people called us the call disconnected, no calls in no calls out. A week later only after complaining online get this "response"/"excuse" i QUOTE: "Whilst issues such as this are rare, please note the network is not entirely free from interruption and we are unfortunately not able to guarantee that service will be available at all times. " PATHETIC vodafone

We were with three for many years and happy but at renew time I switched to a VF plan (I wanted the HTC Legend) and since then nothing but trouble. Dropped calls, poor reception, no reception, poor customer service and incorrect billing both on my new plan and on the wife's which is still with 3. What a mess. BTW I must say the staff in the shops try their best to help but the phone support (join the kill Lara campaign anyone?) and on line services are bad bad bad.
952 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is woeful and incompetent at 19 Dec 2010 07:37:48 AM
Increasing instances of dropped calls and unable to make calls, even with full signal. Very unhappy with this lousy service. Very unhappy with indifferent call centre operators in India. Very unhappy with Vodafone. Will be changing back to Telstra.
951 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is patheticly shite at 19 Dec 2010 07:34:51 AM
dropped calls if i can actually make any. failure to send or receive text messages. zero data coverage. plus the gall to charge me roaming whilst i'm still in sydney, purely because their own network crapped out and they had to piggyback telstra's.
936 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is NO SERVICE !!! at 19 Dec 2010 06:21:16 AM
Have 3 phones on a business plan all the same problems. Dropped calls that frustrates customers and my staff are getting abused now because of Vodafail's poor service. Voicemail takes hours and even days to come through. I will have full 3G reception and in 10 seconds standing in the same place, same position the service will drop out (NO SERVICE) come back as low reception no 3G etc.
Trying to talk to a customer rep is like sliding naked over sand paper. The Vodafail network in India is just as bad from the sounds of things.
Tried to terminate the contract and was told to pay the contract in full.

In many occasions- probably once every week- I cannot use internet on my phone for no obvious reason. In the same location where there is usually good reception, this happens. I have experience many call dropouts. Until I read the article on this, I had been waiting for some spare time to change the mobile phone I got with Vodaphone couple of months back. I am disgusted!!
933 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Totally f*****d at 19 Dec 2010 06:02:53 AM
Was with three for many years, but as soon as Vodafone bought them out, nothing but trouble. Dropped calls, poor reception, no reception, poor customer service. Switched to Telstra, which i hate, but much better service, and price is about the same, but no dropped calls, the person who answers the call, fixes the problem, not being put through to another and another department.

I have been a Loyal customer of vodafone for last 6 years . Paying $1200 each year but what do i get in return ? Poor reception and dropped calls . Cant stand any more. I do not have any reception inside my house and i have to go out to receive a call or make a phone call. Seriously Vodafone pull up your socks and put more network tower or i am going with telstra.
21 Dec 2010 04:16:39 PM: My advice would be pay a few more dollars.. rather than hope they install more towers?!
27 Dec 2010 06:49:46 AM: Optus is actually better than Telstra in WA I've found (I have phones signed to both networks).
884 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is pathetic at 18 Dec 2010 06:47:44 PM
How can you get congestion causing call dropouts and inability to dial out in the middle of Melbourne on a so called "Tier one" telco? I couldn't even call for an ambulance if i needed to. On top of the voicemail delayed delivery "feature" , constant drop outs and the blackspots this really shows how poor the network has become. 3rd world mobile networks perform better.
21 Dec 2010 03:20:33 PM: 112 is an emergency number that you can call and it will find the closest network tower and use it, no matter the company.

Dropped calls going down a hill, dropped calls around the house, its ridiculous. Never EVER going with vodafone again or 3. They are crap and load all these customers without updating the infrastructure. Buildig your bottom line may be important but it will be your downfall if you dont keep customers happy.
844 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is substandard and unable to deliver on contract at 18 Dec 2010 02:09:52 PM
Called Vodafone to register call dropouts, lack of coverage etc;
A recorded message recommended I leave my name and phone number so that a consultant could call back when I had progressed in the queue.
Over an hour later, I did get a call back - only to be put back in the queue! 10 minutes later, a consultant answered. And then my call dropped out.
Vodafone, you really are doing the wrong thing by your customers. And ultimately you will be forced to apologise and compensate. Your lack of responsiveness wins you no fans. In Australia, consumers appreciate transparency.
I, a customer for over 8 years will be leaving and not coming back.
My lifetime customer value will be going somewhere else.
Do the maths Vodafone and sort yourselves out.
If you are not with Vodafone and are considering signing up with them, don't. Read this forum, search the whirlpool forums and read the news. Vodafone have a terrible network and poor, poor service.

842 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Very poor at 18 Dec 2010 01:55:30 PM
My company changed provider from Telstra to Vodafone 12 months ago. I have experienced nothing but constantly dropped calls, inability to connect calls and poor data coverage. I work in The Rocks in NSW and our office is in an area where their is apparently a "black-spot" meaning we receive very erratic, intermittent services.
I sometimes receive voicemails 6 -8 hours late. My customers think that I am being rude and not responding to their calls. Our company first reported the issue 10-11 months ago but it is an ongoing issue for us.
I say return us to Telstra so we can enjoy trouble free, drop-out free, instant voicemail services.
Thanks

Messages coming through from calls 12-18hrs late, but the phone was on in the first instance showing reception! Data transfer rates are appauling, dropped calls etc.... At the end of the day you pay for a service that is simply not being provided. Over 1 hour spent on customer/technical service, 40 minutes of which you are kept on hold for the next person to ask you exactly the same thing! Then advised it will be escalated with a response expected in 'about' 6 days. Completely unacceptable.

731 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is MEGA FAIL at 18 Dec 2010 06:50:51 AM
The past couple of months have been more than a nightmare! I have spent literally hours on the phone to some poor call centre worker in India trying to get some sense out of them as to why the service I am paying for is not being provided.
I have missed out on work due to messages not being delivered until hours later all because my phone is not ringing due to network issues.
I get no service, dropped calls, failed calls, late voicemails, no 3G coverage, unable to send texts.. I have just been informed that I live in a low signal area, funny how this happens even when I'm in the middle of Sydney!!
This is totally unacceptable Vodafone!!!!

706 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Thinkmobile alternative at 18 Dec 2010 02:03:01 AM
On your alternatives page, you cross off Thinkmobile as being Voda wholesale. This is only half true - Half their plans are Voda (what they call the "Swift" network plans) and the other half are on Telstra 2G (the "classic" network plans).
I was on Voda pre-paid in 2008 (awful - dropped calls, delayed smss, atrocious customer service) before switching to Thinkmobile Classic (Telstra 2G network). Thinkmobile's network was great for domestic usage but I had some issues sending international smss (their international SMS provider didn't have a service to Taiwan). For the price, Think were great and their call centre is in Australia.

I've been with Voda for 6 years now, and three times has terrible service presented itself. Dropped Calls is common, data for me is usually fine (Live in rural NSW). But traveling to Sydney CBD I experience issues.
Anyway, I tried logging into Vodafones Customer Area on their website, and attempting to access my usage or bill resulted in error after error. Now, this lasted for over a week. That's unacceptable especially considering Voda does not send me paper bills and they don't email me anything either.

after months of no cellular service, dropped calls, texts that don't send, and being fed complete BS from Vodafone customer service, I finally got out of my two year contract. call vodafail
, wait an hour on hold and ask for cancellations. Or call the TIO and tell them your not getting the service you are paying for. I went to Optus and its bliss. They even answer customer service calls! Don't get mad, get out of your Vodafail contract !!!!!

For years I've been convinced that the regularity of dropped calls is to charge more connection fees (i beleive this applies to all providers), when you're on a CAP initially it's not a big loss but over a month it really starts to add up and becomes a good revenue raiser for VF.
Website performance has always been dreadfully slow and I've noticed the recent revamp to the look and feel of the site but I think they have the wrong priorities as there has been zero improvement to performance. For the last two months I've been sent a bill for 'actual' calls made including international, the bill was $300 when I'm on a $69 CAP. They reversed the charge after calling on two occasions and waiting in the IVR queue for an unacceptable amount of time. I also logged a complaint by email (which wasn't easy to find) which was acknowledged by an automatic reply but I never received any further communication. Now I have to go thru the process all over again this month. Basically VF and their offers are pretty good only when something doesn't go wrong because they don't seem to have the processes or resources in place to service exceptions. Unfortunately when you're in a contract your hands are tied and they know it.

Bitterly regret switching from Optus to a 2 year contract with Vodafail. I thought my new phone was the problem for poor reception, dropped calls etc. Took it back for service but it's no better. Vodafail's network is shockingly poor in many areas of Canberra. I've just spent 2 weeks in Perth and it was just as bad there.

I regularly have call dropouts, incredibly slow down load & am really lucky to have more than one bar...in inner metro melbourne?!!! My phone stopped working suddenly and it took me 3 days to get through to someone in vodafone who could help me, and more than 4 hrs of waiting. I did get thru to humans intermittently - one hung up on me almost immediately before i got to talk, one told me she couldnt help because the "systems were down" and a third "transferred" me to another department that didnt exist...and it disconnected me. I wrote them several emails of complaints, and got appalling auto replies, and then finally a "Lara" response that said nothing . Infuriating!!!!!

The customer service is a joke - some third rate call centre out of mumbai where a person reads from a screen and has no idea what is going on.

The list just goes on and on... I've been relying on Vodafone as a business customer and it's become so ridiculous I've signed up for Telstra to get any decent connection service - yet I still have to pay these Vodafone clowns money for a service that doesn't work!

I've been with Vodafone for 3 months now on a new iPhone 4. I work in the middle of the Sydney CBD, and live in a suburb 7kms from the CBD. I get at least 5-10 dropped calls a day. The mobile internet works some of the time only. This all happens when I have FULL 3G coverage noted on my phone. Crazy.
I've been through 2 iPhones now as Vodafone insist it's Apple. The last time I went into the apple store they ran a diagnostic tool which told them how many call dropouts I have been having (date and time included). They changed it for the last time stating to me quite clearly that it is not the iPhone that is at fault; it is a network issue.
The icing on the cake is i have to wait for at least an hour on the phone on 1555 to speak to a real person. Just crazy, especially when you've been at work for 10 hours.
Years ago I was on the 3 network and left them becasue (a) it didn't work and (b) the customer service was non existant. Vodafone bought 3 over this year and inherited 300,000+ customers. This is obviously the problem as 3 did not have their own proprietary network; Vodafone's network now have to deal with these extra customers on the existing infrastructure.
Seems to me that 3 acuired Vodafone and not the vice versa!
