Dear visitor,
Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant
contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced
by Vodafone customers.
Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders.
You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.
Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.
More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly.
Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints.
The site will remain online for as long as possible as a
reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.
It has been a privilege to run this initiative
and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In
particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their
continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.
You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.
Until next time,
Adam Brimo

If you dont get the service you desire refuse to pay your bill at all. Call them tell them you are not paying as they ahve breached contract and tell them you are going to the TIO if they refuse.
I have told all my family and friends to do this and they have all recieved 1 to 3 months credit on their bills. I got 3 months.

I've had the calls dropping out and no service thing happen to me for a while, apology letter has been sent out saying they (vodafone) are trying to fix the problems yet I see no difference it's still crap. Now here's another things that's recently happened with vodafail after not being able to send text messages for a whole day vodafail decides to give vodafail coustomers free text from 8 am till 8pm yet where was the text message apologizing and letting us know about the free sms's? I only found out because my mum saw it on tv. It would of been nice ffor them to have notified all vodafail coustomers , trying to make things better but your still failing to do so. My contract ends in 3 months for sure I'll be changing to another service and I'll be taking alot of other vodafone coustomers with me.
17525 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Left when i could at 28 Apr 2011 05:06:49 PM
terrible, absolutely terrible. Had 3 services with vodafone, two USB modems and a blackberry. Most shite service ever, barely could download anything, make a phonecall or even text anybody and this was in paddington, sydney. 3 kilometers from the CBD. Everytime i had to make a phone call i had to literally place my phone on the windowsill and use a bluetooth headphone in hope that i could get some sort of signal- same thing happened to the modems. It'd heat up, disconnect me and repeat. All night.
Called up several times to disconnect the modem, only one was canceled after 4 months of constant arguing every night before 8pm asking them WHY DOESNT MY MODEM WORK. Told by a consultant in mumbai that my area was congested and not enough towers were put in and that within 4 months there should be a major improvement in network speed and coverage.
um no? IT WAS WORST. had to cancel my plans and actually pay out $1000 something in cancellation fees and move to telstra. can't believe i did that but it was the BEST THING i have ever done for myself. I now no longer envy other people for their signal strength and coverage and best of all, my bills are even lower than what i was paying with vodafail.
Never again.

17524 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is unbelievably bad at 28 Apr 2011 05:05:05 PM
I joined Vodafone last Nov and in my first week y number fell off the network.
I couldn't get calls forwarded to another number so my business went dead for a week while off the Vodafone network.
I was finally connected but Vodafone were unable to retrieve my voice mails for me & I therefore lost all contact with any future & current business that may have left messages.
I then gave Vodafone the benefit of the doubt & continued with the contract only to continuously receive complaints from clients and friends trying to call me but claiming that the call was going to "nothing". I have also experienced this when trying to call my wife who is also with Vodafone. My wife is currently trying to seek employment and only wonders how many potential job opportunity calls she has missed.
In frustration I was forced to leave & join Telstra in order to keep my business alive. I wish to join the class action and find out how I can claim my money back that Vodafone are demanding from me in order to payout the contract.
I can't imagine the amount of money that I have lost & Vodafone have been no help at all.

17522 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is a New Fail at 28 Apr 2011 04:42:57 PM
Stupid me all this time I'm blaming my iphone with poor reception issues, drop outs, delayed vocemail and it's been Vodafone all along. Today just topped it all with "the disappearing voicemail". You know the one - let the call go through to voicemail cos' your in a queue at the bank, you hear it go through to voicemail, you attempt to retrieve the message and all of a sudden - it's gone - yep not even in deleted messages. New one to me. Panic sets in as it's used for work and pleasure, you make few obvious calls and then resort to dialling your voicemail - 121 - remember having to do that years ago? Well thankfully it was there - could've lost a client and follow-up order - thanks vodafone!!
29 Apr 2011 11:52:14 AM: Hey just got that missing voicemail (albeit 21hrs later) along with a current one - maybe there batching these things as a cost-saving excercise?????

They disconnected me and told me it'll take 96 hours to reconnect because they stated i owe them $20.16 .. I then ask them to explain they said it's on my bill, i then look at the bill and state to vodafone there is no such item on my bill.
The person on the phone argued and stated it's there and then question me what bill i'm looking at.. in my mind does it EVEN matter which bill i look at, it has to be there.. * 2 minutes later, they hanged up on me and then stated it dropped out and that vodafone system made a mistake, we'll reconnect your service in 48 hours, i'm like but this is a vodafone mistake sorry sir we can't do anything, as you were physically disconnected.. *
I have other stories regarding my bill, it's just ridiculous..

3G internet likes to randomly disappear for days at a time. Every time i look at other providers for wireless internet, the 3G comes back within seconds (surprise?). The icing on the cake was weak security issues so everyone could take a look at personal details. Voda-Mega-Fail.

I have a phone on vodafone and I had $25 credit on it then I sent a message. Soon after I got a message saying you do not have anymore credit please recharge.I did recharge $20. I then talked to my friend the line broke up $10 off my credit has gone for a 5 min. call. Then my friend tried to call me she couldn't get the line so she sent me a voicemail message. I went on to voicemail to listen to the message soon after the line broke up I had no credit. Then I recharged $15 to sent a message, my message was delayed. And again no credit at all left.

No wonder Vodafail can sponsor so many events, teams, etc, with towers programmed to drop out every 30 sec throughout metro NSW and if your'e in country NSW forget it, buy a carrier pigion you will get a better result. Here i am sitting in the office my phone has not moved yet the signal strength has gone from full to 0 every 30 to 40 sec "Please Explain" are your towers mobile??? how is this possible, ahh maybe its the wind. I will Support ANY action against this scam of a telco. Vodafone is a scam.
28 Apr 2011 06:47:32 PM: The random reception bars is one of the great mysteries of Vodafone, I can save you time on hold by telling you to turn your phone on and off again, wiping and replacing your sim, and after that that their must be a problem with "YOUR" phone.
Suggest that the network is at issue, and they will tell you that they have upgraded and tested the towers in your area, and are "VERY" satisfied with the results of that test.
Replicating the test, probably involves affixing a 6 M antenna with a high gain signal booster to your car and driving around your suburb until you find a single bar of reception and then signing off the work sheet.
My test involved driving around with both a Vodafone and before moving to NextG, an Optus phone. Most times I would look at the Optus phone on 3 or 4, and the Vodafone on 1 or 2 if at all, When I did see 4 bars on my Vodafone, I almost fell over, I couldn't believe it.

I was on the 29$ plan paying an extra 15$ for unlimited txt to any phone in australia. I was over my phone so my partner gave me his new Samsung, the Samsung phone I was using is exclusive to Optus therefore if I had put my Vodafone sim card in it it could not connect to the internet, which I was fine with because that was making my bills go through the roof. Got a txt from Voda stating that my monthly spend on this number was $529.89, thought to myself, this isnt right. So I logged into myvodafone internet account and it stated that my next bill is $603.46 which was a big woah! I rang the customer care line and they said that i was charged for data usage. I could not connect to the internet, therefore I wasnt using any data. My partner rang up the TIO because I was not happy with the reception I had plus the bill didnt make me any happier. They said they'll get back to me in 10 business days to talk to me about it and get my 4 digit enquiry pin. They rang me back the next day and asked me what was going on and I told them about my bill plus the fact I wasnt happy about the reception I was receiving. The TIO representative asked me if I wanted to cancel my contract and without hesitation I said yes. They let me walk out with no extra payments and now been with Optus for 3 weeks and I'm loving it. Get unlimited access to FB and I also have unlimited txt to anyone in Australia and 700$ call credit and unlimited calls to any Optus number in Australia.

Well I can't talk in my house without the mobile dropping out. I was just on hold to my bank with a ten minute wait for service and it dropped out on me. So I had to use the landline phone - and presto! Another ten minute wait (plus I was now charged for the call!) Twice if you count the call coast Vodafone would take!

I had to cancel Vodafone due to their apaling coverage. I use my phone for work and was told to get rid of them. In the process ive now received a bill from them of $1000 for cancelling a contract????? I did not have a handset subsidy and did not sign a contract. I was also a vodafone customer for over 5 years. The response I received was too bad you have to pay it!!!!! Customer service basically said there was no way around it - anyone?
27 Apr 2011 09:11:01 PM: call the TIO
27 Apr 2011 10:32:10 PM: If you didn't sign a contract there wouldn't be a cancellation fee. Are you sure you weren't in a contract? A bill of $1000 usually means you've cancelled around 4 months into a 24 month contract.

My partner lives in Wollongong and I constantly have trouble sending txts to him as well as ringing him. Txt messages can take upto 2 days to get through and then they all go through at once. When I ring I continually get a message saying the number I am calling is out of service or switched off. What a lot of rubbish. He is a nightshift worker and his phone is on 24/7. He works in Sydney and we constantly get calls drop out no matter where he is. I can even txt my own kids in the same house and still not get through to them. The whole idea of my children having mobile phones in the first place was so that I was able to contact them whenever I needed to. What a joke!!!!! Please fix your problems as my contract is due to expire in a few months and I will most certainly be changing my provider.

I updated my email address when I left my previous job to receive my bills on my personal address. Continued receiving messages from them that they could not send my latest bill to my email address and they were going to charge $2.20 to send a paper bill. I double checked my account details online, email address is still the personal one I had updated with no spelling errors. Decided to call them and was quite surprised I was actually able to speak with a real person (even though they were probably from an overseas call centre) within 5 minutes of my call. I had left my previous job 6 months ago and the email they had on their system was the old one. What is the point of me updating my account details online if it's not going to be updated on theirs?? Grrr
17455 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Rubbish service in Parra at 27 Apr 2011 04:12:00 PM
I live in North Parramatta (near church & pennant hills road) and the coverage is absolute rubbish. As im renting I have not connected a landline but with all the Vodafone mobile problems and also mobile broadband - it looks like im going to have to get ADSL or something to get service. The mobile continually drops out and mobile broadband is almost non existent.
Does anyone else have a problem in North Parramatta? I been having problems all over the place but Parramatta/North Parramatta is just a 'black hole' for any signal.
Voda has a site to check for the network upgrade/issues and they have stated that there is a problem there but its not a recent problem as the problem has been there for more 1yr. I doubt if they will get anything fixed as they are loosing all credibility and customers to Telstra.
Come'on Telstra, reduce your prices to match Voda and I will be a returning customer. NAB had a 'break up' campaign with the other banks over fees, come'on Telstra you too can do a 'break up' and match Vodafone and we will ALL sign up with you TOMORROW!
So, anyone else with Voda problems in Parra for voice & data?
Telstra you up for lower prices so you get all of Voda's customers ?

Relieved that my contract has finally come to an end. Problems the minute I got the mobile broadband home. Called the tech support who were abrupt and extremely unhelpful. One guy from flat out refused to even return my calls or provide any assistance saying that the account number, sim number and mobile number was not correct?? Eventually rang back in frustration as I am not internet savvy and somebody else agreed to help me. It turned out the woman who sold the broadband had slotted the sim card into the device incorrectly - I had no idea. The first time i used the internet it worked fine. The second time it was slow and kept dropping out. A problem that I have persevered with all year. I have never once had full signal. The best is two bars and I agreed to this contract as I was told that I would get good signal. Even when it is supposedly connected and shows it is downloading a page it comes up repeatedly that internet explorer is not working, refresh page and it happens again and again. Or in the Vodafone Mobile Connect Screen data transfer becomes zero and even though it is connected, it is doing absolutely nothing. Many times I disconnect and reconnect again for the same thing to happen. For a year I have put up with this rubbish, paid my monthly account for crap reception in return. It's not right and clearly I am not alone. Wish I had the foresight to dispute this long ago and get out of the contract. Good riddance to Vodafone. I will be turning to Telstra. You get what you pay for.

Secondly, when I asked for mobile broadband being failed(can't use anytime), they asked me to cancel the mobile broadband. What is the use of Iphone without internet.
The CEO sending out emails saying, apolgies and stuff. It means, we can't deliver but still pay the bills. We can't do anything at the moment, still pay the bill. SMS failures, still pay the bill.
I want to get out of contract and I dont know what to do

Turns out the upgrade is 3G 850 and not compatibile with the 3G 900 phone I am on contract with them.
27 Apr 2011 02:09:00 PM: The 850 towers will still reduce the congestion off the 900 and 2100 towers, so it will still help.

17425 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Seriously. at 27 Apr 2011 12:37:42 PM
What a debacle. I've been using Vodafone for ~8 years, and have weathered a few storms with them, however nothing as seriously bad as the last 6 months. Dropped calls, fluctuating reception, poor SMS performance. 3G internet performance is a joke; its so flaky regardless of how many bars are displayed on the phone. Being disgruntled, and then running into a non-functioning billing service is pretty much the last straw. I can't even pay my (quite excessive, given the lack of actual service) bill due to 1555 and their website both refusing to accept payment after long wait times and filling out tedious forms.
I will be moving over to Telstra. They might be more expensive, however at least I will be getting what I pay for.

Been with Vodfone 11 years, my last plan expired in January waiting to see things improve before starting a new 2 year plan .. this Easter weekend was bad, could not send SMS on Easter day, my phone had no reception most of the time resulting in continuos voicemail messages, when I could call it was broken up. I am trying so hard to stay on as a customer but cannot see any changes as promised over the past few months.

I'm so glad thhis website is up and Vodaphone issues on TV last night. I thought I was only one. Many times I cannot even use the internet modem, signal coverage is either not at all or very poor. I've used vodaphone broadband for 3-4 months and have had continuous problems, over billed, being cut off when I thought an issue was resolved, long waits, everything little thing I say is repeated back parrot fashion from India, when all I want is the situation resolved.

I'd been a Vodafone customer for 8 years. When I wanted to switch to an iPhone 3g I actually asked when I signed up if I would be able to send and receive emails - YES, OF COURSE they lied, knowing full well the troubles I, at that time, knew nothing about. I was able to finally cancel the contract and return the iphone after days of being lied to by those lying idiots in India, and yet they still keep sending me bills for this now non existent account. Total arrogance from the fools in India. I am now with Telstra, much happier.
17386 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is I'm pretty unhappy with my home reception at 26 Apr 2011 11:25:21 PM
I have resorted to using my home wireless account when I'm at home because I have very poor 3G, G & H reception where I live. I only signed up with vodafone because I really wanted the HTC Desire HD, which was exclusive on a plan with either VHA or 3. My home locality is not covered by the recent or proposed upgrades and that is unfair. Sure, they're giving me a discount on my monthly bill for three months, but then what? The problem hasn't been fixed yet. I'm not happy!

While I tend not to have issues with coverage (other than in the black spot that is my house, but all telcos seem to have this problem). I do have a problem with the fact that I was not alerted to going over my cap or even coming close to it until it was $120 over. Hello $150 bill that a university student could only pay by asking Centrelink for an advance, I would've paid it off, but no doubt they would have charged some sort of interest on it or done something stupid like forget that I was on it and cut my service.

As soon as my contract is up, I'm saying GOODBYE to Vodafail
27 Apr 2011 02:21:34 PM: How have they broken the contract though? Pretty sure there's no mention in the contract up providing 100% perfect service at all times. Hell no Telco offers that because they know it's not possible to provide that.

Wanted to get in touch with my daughter whom I rarely get to see (due to distance) and was unable to wish her a Happy Easter. Don't know what happened, but there is no reception in the Bangalow area of NSW. What a pity that vodaphone ruined the opportunity for a disabled mother that I am to not be able to speak to her only child. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT VODAPHONE?...My daughter is now going to switch to another company & there goes the umpteen hours that I've accumulated so I could call her @ a cheaper rate. Vodafone called TWICE to offer me the deal of the century as I have been a valued customer for over 2 years. It involved Vodafone paying the next 3 months of my cap, sending me a new phone, and better calling and sms rates on my cap. Thinking it was a great deal, I accepted. What they failed to mention over the phone, (and never actually sent any paperwork with the new handset) was that by taking the offer I was signing up for 2 more years. In addition, the piece of crap phone they sent me WAS my upgrade, and not a gift at all. When I found this out after going into my local Vodafone store to complain, the teenager working there claimed she could not help. So, I used the store phone to call customer service, only to be told I was 'ignorant' for accepting the deal over the phone!!! I demanded to speak to management, and finally managed to get a new handset (still not the phone I wanted) and one of the infamous vodafone apologies! Still not happy! I hate Vodafone!

'3' Mobile is now owned but Hutchison Australia (Vodafone) and they have the same issues!
I once had $800+ taken out of my account (I had direct debit set up) incorrectly and never got it back. I had absolute rude pr**ks on the other end of the phone basically telling me where to go.
If we are a day late with a bill for either Vodafone or '3' they disconnect the service. But they constantly are in breach of their contract and we can't even end the contract for that reason? Stupid!
Finally, I used to work for a local debt collection company (in Wollongong) who exclusivley handle the contracts for both Vodafone and '3' and both companies advise all debt collectors to advise 'debtors' that it is not Vodafone or '3' resposibility if you have no reception, your phone doesn't work, basically any of the problems that happen.

I go on holidays to a place called Hat Head (near Kempsey). I am with a company called Just PrePaid (uses the vodafone network). I use to get coverage there on and off , usually at night. In the past three years , it got worse - no coverage at all. I tried to complain to vodafone, online. But when it asked what my account no. was, I couldn't answer because my server is just prepaid. Nothing has changed. The vodafone dealer in Port Macquarie told me --- vodafone had their towers worked on by contractors. These blokes pointed the towers out to sea -- if you were a boat you are right. He told me to make a complaint --- to who???? Also I was told they don't use the 3G network there causing more coverage problems

There are billing errors after billing errors and every time credits are meant to be applied or issues resolved THEY ARE NOT. Customer service reps lie, to contact them it is a nightmare especially when trying to navigate their call centres and I am spending hours on managing my phone service.
The reception is so bad I have suffered lost business and disgruntled customers.
I have not even begun resolving the poor service as I am still trying to resolve billing issues. If I decide to ignore there mistakes my service will be disconnected and false debts transferred to collectors.
I am being harassed and bullied by Vodafone and their incompetence.

I constantly have my phone dropping out. I can never ever get reception at uni (I go to the University of Wollongong so not a rural area or anything at all). When I call customer service, I am transfered to several different people, on hold for hours, and the phone usually cuts out several times. Reception disapears for no reason.
In short, Vodafone is the biggest joke of a company! They need to compensate their customers, but we all know they won't do that. As long as their CEO's have their money to roll around in, they don't care that they are ripping their customers off!

Oh screw it I would perfer to spend my $ on fliers preventing people from signing up.

I live on the Central Coast, and I constantly have dropped calls, and sometimes, my phone doesn't even ring at all! I'm a volunteer firefighter who requires a reliable phone to be contacted. How can I when it doesn't work!?
Sorry Vodaphone, but if one of your stores was on fire, I can't help put it out because I never even heard about it... Not that I would anyway.

I'm not going to go into too much detail but see the merit in joining the anti-vodafone movement.
I joined the "lack of" Network in november 2010 and have counted over 100+ dropped calls, massive network related dropouts / reception issues. Voice mail not coming through for hours and in some case days at a time.
Usually I'm a patient person who just gets on with things but this network has driven me mad. Considering I reside in the Sydey Metropolitan area & am a very busy business man travelling around this service is unacceptable.
I've lodged 3 formal complaints already but since Vodafone has opted to lock me into a contract I guess we all wait?

I have two vodafone prepaid mobiles (wife and myself) we can be sitting next to each other and i have full reception and she has none, how? (or vice versa). I have prepaid mobile broadband for my laptop, the reception is unbelievably slow, for an example it's taken me four attempts to put my comments on here because i got the shits waiting for the page to load and turned off my computer. As soon as my credit expires i am taking my business elsewhere. VODAFONE YOU SUCK!

Poor coverage cost me two public holiday shifts at my casual job, has left me basically uncontactable 80% of the time and has left my poor mother worried I've fallen off the face of the planet.
Being a uni student (therefore strapped for cash), I thought Vodafone would be a cost-effective option...instead, it seems to me that it's losing me money more than anything else.
I can't wait to switch to another carrier, Vodafone, YOU SUCK.

I was making my way back from Anzac on the train and where i would usually get 3g reception i wasn't even getting, i wasnt even getting 2g reception. I spent the whole ride turning airplane mode on and off to only have 'no service' appear. I am very appalled as what use to be a fun train ride surfing the net or texting friends has become this nightmare.

December 2011 - when my contract expires with Vodafone - can't come any sooner. I can't wait to go to Optus or Telstra where reliable mobile phone service is what you pay for. I can't forget the time when I made a request to Vodafone via their website to have my mobile on global roam and when I went to my destination, I discovered my mobile had absolutely no coverage. Having arrived late at night in an unfamiliar destination, I expected to have mobile coverage so I could call my friends and family to know I landed safely. I was lucky enough to have a relative who had an old phone I could borrow for the length of my stay and in a country where I could buy a local sim card. I am very disappointed with Vodafone for this very poor experience....
I also want to ask the powers that be: how can one party (i.e. the consumer) terminate the contract and avoid paying the exit fee as a result of the other party's (i.e. Vodafone) failure to provide a decent, reliable service? How many complaints must one have made in the past?

My Vodaphone mobile keeps dropping out within the first 2minutes of a phone call no madder who I'm calling or what network the other person is on and my location doesn't seem to be the problem either as is just started happening 1week ago. Was on hold to VHA's customerservice for 65min but then gave up, but realized latter that I need the problem fixed urgently as it's now affecting my job, still on hold again with VHA customerservice and it being 60min! I'm changing networks ASAP, not happy Vodaphone!
26 Apr 2011 11:32:01 AM: I know what you mean, I'm now with another network provider and my calls constantly drop out when I call someone that's with Vodaphone, all I can say is considering today how important a mobile is to the average person it's well worth the few extra dollars per month for a reliable service provider
The Telstra store was busy, not much going on at the Vodafone shop.
