Dear visitor,
Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant
contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced
by Vodafone customers.
Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders.
You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.
Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.
More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly.
Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints.
The site will remain online for as long as possible as a
reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.
It has been a privilege to run this initiative
and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In
particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their
continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.
You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.
Until next time,
Adam Brimo

I have several of the issues mentioned re drop outs and late sms but I have also, up until recently had my phone turning on then off. I was told to send it to the manufacturer for repair however, strangly, this only happened at my house and to my wifes phone also. Anyone would know two phones side by side doing this similtanously was not going to be an individual phone failure issue. After all, they both worked fine every where else. Also when I purchased these phones I was told by 3 (Vodaphone)that outside the capital cities they roamed onto and shared the Telstra network. However whilst travelling in Aust. recently I was unable to get coverage in some towns and when I rang to enquire they told me they had no coverage in this towns. Begs the question, whose network do they use in the country and it is Telsrta, is it selective?

3906 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is massive fail at 27 Dec 2010 04:52:12 PM
My wife and i were with 3 without many hassles free calls to one another great reception in most places, thought we up date our phones to be made to jump over to vodaphone the two phones are ok , but we are in the middle of a perfect coverage area they tell us at home , but my wife and i have zero reception at home so no free calls to one another, and very hard to contact the outside world, so our home phone bill has gone up, pathetic service would not join them again, and want to get out of our contract asap, does anyone think it's possible?
3901 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Worst Network EVER at 27 Dec 2010 04:51:40 PM
I was a vodafone customer for about 3 years, i moved from Victoria to Jindabyne in NSW, which is at the base of Mt Perisher, as i was moving my contract was up i went into vodafone to talk about reception in the area i was moving to.
I was assured i would have great reception, was told broadband 3G coverage was avaliable, so i renewed my contract and moved.
When i arrived in Jindabyne i had no reception AT ALL. I then entered into an argument with Vodafone over this issue and they told me they have a tower in Jindabyne and it's not possible for me to have no reception. They sent me new sim cards, i drove 2 hrs to canberra to replace the handset but nothing!
The only way i got reception was to drive to the highest point in town and i would ger 3 bars.
It got to the point where i moved into an appartment at the top of the hill so i could always recieve calls and txt.
This went on for over 12 months and not once did Vodafone admit there was a problem and they told me noone else in the area had ever complained.. i found out of the local technician that vodafone had been trying to repair their tower for the last 18 months but with no success!
Eventually i went to the telephone ombudsum (can't spell that) and filed a complaint, when i called and told them my issue and who it was with, they said they weren't suprised and have had this with Vodafone a lot!
They cancelled my contract with no charge and i am now on Telstra. It was the most frustrating experience of my life, in the end i suppose you get what you pay for... but with vodafone i was paying and not getting!
WORST NETWORK EVER!! Stop spending money on marketing and spend it on fixing your product!

NO coverage!! - Yet I bought the service from Vodaphone less than a 2 minute walk away! Go figure.
Vodaphone did not want to help in solving the matter and simply kept feeding me B.S. that they had a new tower being built that would solve the problem next month, then the next, then the next and so on.................

Trying to Get my Blackberry Storm fixed/replaced. Vodafone tells me nothing is wrong with the phone. but clearly there is. i call the company only to be place on hold for hours on end, when i do get through the operators hang up or give me false information. in melbourne its sometimes hard to get reception. we sign up for contracts but its a 2 way street. Vodafone are in a binding contract with us to provide a service. when i try to cancel my plan i am told i have to pay in excess of $1000 to break the contract. Optus is a far better Telco. at least they treat you like a person.

3834 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Very at 27 Dec 2010 04:44:38 PM
When I joined Vodafone more years ago than I can remember part of the service they provided was the ability to send text messages over their website. At least two years when logging into www.vodafone.com.au as a customer one still sees the link "Send a TXT online". When selecting this link the page that comes up has the message: "Sorry, this function is currently unavailable. Please visit us again shortly". As I said, this was at least two years ago, which makes a mockery of their statement "Please visit us again SHORTLY". pkdancer.
3828 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is at 27 Dec 2010 04:44:16 PM
Where do I start?? I have been a Vodafone customer for 10 years. I am now wondering why I have put up with the crummy service they NOW provide. Extremely poor coverage, I have complained about this many times and I just get excuses. Since the customer service has been moved overseas the level of service has hit rock bottom. I've had the worst service ever from vodafone in the last month, yet I am still waiting for my complaint letter to be read and actioned by a real person and not by an automated email response. The last off shore customer service man I spoke to continually said sorry to me and to give Vodafone a couple of weeks/months to sort out the issues. I'm sorry to YOU Vodafone but I have been waiting for years to sort out your crap. I regret signing up with them for another 2 years! I will gladly tell my pain with Vodafone to anyone that can try and bring them back down to earth and improve their services.

We were with 3 and had good cover on the surf coast in vic.But when we went to renew our phone plans we were talked into going with vodaphone which we have found very poor. The phone keeps droping out all the time unless i"m in melb, and even some calls go straight to phone bank.Overall we should have stayed with 3 moblie where we were happy.
3811 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Irrevocable at 27 Dec 2010 04:42:59 PM
Used Vodafone 3 since 2006. Since 2008, Vodafone 3 service in Melbourne has been atrocious. Unable to complete any call with a duration longer than 5 minutes. The network would always reset calls crossing the "Hour". I have bills showing multiple cases of repeated flag fall to same receiving number.
Both my wife (used a Vodafone Blackberry for business) and I left at the end of our our contracts, and will never use Vodafone again.

3806 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Very fail at 27 Dec 2010 04:42:27 PM
I was a 15 year customer of Vodafone and was, up until the last few years, a happy customer. Then they started by forcing me to accept emailed bills (I need Hardcopy bills for tax purposes) which meant they shifted a small but not inconsiderable cost upon me. Then I started to notice an increase in dropped calls, poor reception, and delayed delivery of SMS and voicemails. Needless to say I paid my way out of my latest contract and moved to Telstra. Telstra have been fantastic: cheaper, far far better coverage, and immediate delivery of voicemails. I won't be returning to Vodafone, and intend to transfer my wife's mobile over to Telstra ASAP.
3801 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Coverage what coverage???? at 27 Dec 2010 04:42:07 PM
I have vodafone mobile internet, I am lucky when I can conect to get coverage that is only poor, most of the time it is very poor (this is vodafones own classification of coverage). Coverage so weak it won't even bring up google homepage.....And I though dial up was bad! WONT BE RENEWING CONTRACT!

3794 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Absolute ****, ****, fill in the blanks yourself at 27 Dec 2010 04:41:18 PM
My wife signed up with Crazy Johns, who use the Vodafone network, in Feb 2010 and has complained several times about the service to no avail, and still has 14 months to go on her contract. The coverage in the Geelong area is, according to the Vodafone map, 100%, but when we visit our Daughter in Lara she has to go outside and stand in the road to get coverage, and even then it's intermittent. Try one of the shopping centres and all she can get is Emergency numbers - what a joke. It's about time we started to fight back at these telco's over their so called 'Great Service', maybe not through a class action, but through a mass court apparance if we all refuse to pay the bills.

Vodaphone staff doing "favours " to criminals to access my details .
Its scary stuff why its in the wrong hands!
Vodaphone has breached The Privacy Act.
Its a gross breach of privacy almost negligent exposure to criminal activity !
our private details accessed on the internet'we are surprised how easily the database could be opened.

Have had numerous problems, stemming from call reception problems, drop outs, broadband and internet connections, multiple billing, incorrect billing, dealing with that horro of a voice recognition menu option "LARA" who not only doesn't recognise simple english, doesn't offer options that you need, and drops-out mid-call, then the 40min + wait to speak to some moron in Mumbai or wherever (always Inidian accent) who always says problems are due to some "software" upgrade and "really sorry but nothing I can do about it"...bu115h!t...sick to f'ing death of it. If they are consistently doing software upgrades, perhaps they should spend sometime getting it right before implementing and having to continually fix! The website is just as bad...MyVodasuck would be a better name. I am tearing what little of my hairy I have left waiting for my contract to expire so I can go elsewhere. Oh, almost forgot to mention how crap their shop staff actually are when you try and see them in person...even less helpful than foreign call-centres. YOU SUCK EVERY WAY POSSIBLE Vodafone!!!! The worst thing I every did was join up to Vodafone. Every bill I have received in the last 24 months was incorrect. Every month I was on the phone for 2 hours thryingh try to sort out their mess. Back in April Vodafone charged me $4,150.00. All these calls were made overseas even though that I was in the country (& not overseas). I offered to show them my passport to prove that i was not overseas at the time the calls were made. They did not seem interested in seeing my passport & advised that i need to pay the bill or they would cut me off. I am still trying to sort this mess out with them. I have never been with a phone company who does not give a SHIT about their customers.
When i rang up to complain about the phone (& internent) service droping out -
they claimed that I just had to deal with it & hung up..
I finally changed my phone & internet to Telstra who have been fantastic.

My wife and I only recently finished our 24 month contract with Vodafone which was the WORST experience we have had with ANY carrier ever! The problems started when we decided to get Vodafone Mobile Broadband, I use the term Broadband loosely! Sitting at home in Suburbia (14ks out of CBD) for the first Month of our contract we could NOT even get the thing to connect to the network? 20+ Calls of frustration insued, Vodafone REFUSED to cancel our contract even though we were not getting ANY service that is meant to be supplied in our agreement that we both signed! It went around in circles, the customer centre could not authorise anything to be done, so they put us through to the head office and they refused to do anything either! Over and over again we got the same answers, 'we are looking into it it appears to be a problem in your area' 'we are sorry but it is Telstra slowing things down' bla bla, how can it take a month to fix a service issue for an area?
When it DID finally work it would cuttout, dropout and speeds were pathetic! I used to take my laptop into work and from the middle of the CBD in Melbourne I could not get it to connect to the internet half of the time then when it did it would dropout or slow down! When I complained to Vodafone about this they said it must be my laptop.... ? ? ? How the hell can it be my laptop the software was installed off their disk? Or I was told that I must be too far away from a tower, I was in the middle of Collins St! Pass the buck back to the consumer?
Abosulte worst waste of space I have ever seen in a carrier we will NOT be making that mistake ever again and have warned family and friends away from them too!

I live 12km west of Melbourne GPO and the reception issues is dreadful and atrocious. Now i regret ever leaving dial up connection since those speeds were like ADSL broadband compared to the snail speed im getting now from wireless slowband.Ring up Vodafone(Lara tells me how important my call is) only to get somebody in Egypt who keeps telling me that its the internet provider that is the issue.Under the main view,(vodafone internet connection)the upload and download speed meter hasnt moved for 18 minutes(on windy days).Good reception usually means poor speed and vice versa. Its a joke with Vodafone 3G,HSUPA and EDGE

Customer for 2 years, first twelve months excellent. For the past 12 months my payment even though they are often paid in cash and at PO they are not credited. Currently 4 months behind according to vodafone. Staff at Camberwell great have assisted to get payments credited ion the past but this time they are struggling and have been trying for over a week prior to Christmas. Vodafone India tell me to read out the receipt numbers, then tell me they won't credit them because I could be making them up. Phone goes straight to message bank. Phone cuts it self off when I go to Daylesford every 2 weeks. Often needs Vodafone assistance to get back on. Reception poor in many regional places. On my plan I am now being charged extra for Victorian calls outside Melbourne. $79 plan now $93
3736 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Below average service at 27 Dec 2010 04:35:33 PM
Right where I live is a "black spot" or "blank spot" for vodafone reception. I don't live in the middle of the nuga-wuga, I live in a Melbourne suburb ! The whole idea of having a mobile is privacy and flexibility. When I am in my room I cannot make or take any mobile calls, the reception drops out. When I do have a call I have to walk around constantly to try to keep the reception on tap. Even sending a text message can sometimes be a saga, where I have to watch the reception meter in the top left hand corner carefully before pressing "send". It's just as well I am not a big phone user, and I get by with my nokia/vodafone mobile. I don't plan to switch, but if my circumstances changed I would be forced to .

Often, when I make phone calls, I get an ear-splitting screech through my phone, that can only be the network.
If I actually get a call out, there's a good chance they aren't able to hear me.
On the off chance I get a good call, it drops out minutes in.
Plus whenever I call their "Customer Care" line, there's a wait time of >40 minutes.
I've been on hold with the "Customer Care" line for 1:30:00 once, halfway in my phones battery almost died, I plugged it into the charger, then at the 1:20:00 mark, the phone said it's battery was about to overheat!

I use my mobile for work, and I have continuously experienced significant delays in receiving voicemails. There was a period of about six days where none were delivered. This was very embarrassing (and unprofessional) on my part to return calls so late. I live in the st kilda area and in the evenings (particularly) the network coverage is non existent. The next morning I get bombarded with texts and voicemails that I didn't receive the night before. My friends and family think I am rude for not replying!
3695 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Really quite Poor. at 27 Dec 2010 04:31:10 PM
Have been with Vodafone for 10 years straight. Never had worse service than now. I am sure the service has got worse recently, very rarely do I receive 3G and very rarely solid data connections. My calls constantly drop out and I have been forced into Visual Voicemail which I simply cannot rely on. Since customer service moved overseas it is almost impossible to resolve issues through the shuffling of calls from one area to the other (very reminiscent of Dell).

I have used Vodafone for the last 6 years, however about 8 months ago while still living in Perth, W.A, we really noticed the ability to connect via Vodafone going from usable to next to barely tolerable service... Now we have moved to South West Melbourne, Vic about 6 weeks ago and we can not use our mobile internet, we may get 1 text out of 15 and no longer even try to use our mobiles to make or receive calls. I am so pissed, what the hell is the point in having a mobile or the kids having mobiles for emergencies if they/we can't use them, at the moment my husband and I are both on plans and feel we are paying for nothing. So what the hell has happened to the Vodafone service?

I really don't feel like going on about the pain i went through with customer service, when they claimed they hadn't received a payment which i did make and had proof of, i still don't really understand part of it - Ridiculous

I have been a longtime expensive customer of Vodafone. I have persisted while the service, which once was a real alternative to Telstra, but no more. My phone looses service in my home in Kew and my work at Bundoora, all inner suburbs in Melbourne. My husband changed carriers because of this and the transfer out caused my phone to block my ability to call him. this took 2 weeks to fix. Vodafone problem !!! I have lost service twice writing this. I also use this phone for my business. I'm sure it's costing me business. FIX IT. I have complained and was fobbed off!

I first joined Vodafone 10 years ago and I have been a very loyal customer. The coverage was good but in the last 2 years it has got worse. Voice and text messages can take hours sometimes a day to be received. Phone calls drop out, or connection error when trying to dial out when I'm in the middle of Geelong. I hope Vodafone read all of this because they have a huge problem that need to be fixed.

Firstly let me just say that I cannot stand the annoying robot voice 'lara'. It is even more irritating when waiting on hold for over an hour and a half, it continues to tell me that they're 'flat out' but rest assured my call is important to them! Pretty sure they'd answer the phone if my call was important. We have had nothing but trouble with vodaphone since we unfortunately signed up for a 2 year contract. The bills are through the roof, for no apparent reason. One was even in the thousands of dollars. We are now on the $99 cap, which in vodaphone terms means about $200!

Im currently with 3 mobile broadband, i have been for the past 3 years, since the merge with vodafone my connection is shocking, it's slow, drops out, theres no one to help. Do i have a case as well. Im tempted to swap to optus.
28 Dec 2010 11:20:53 AM: You do have a case, as 3 neglected to inform their customers that they were being brought out by Vodafone. Fun part of the story: Vodafone use Optus towers. So switching to Optus will literally do nothing for you.
Honestly your only way to get decent reception is Telstra, but they overcharge to the shit because they know they have the best reception. You'll ALWAYS have mobile & internet coverage, but your bills will be double the price for half the benefits (free texts, calls, etc).

Me and my partner are with 3 (vodafone) and our coverage is the worst i have ever experienced. We will stand in one spot and the coverage will drop in and out constantly, we were told we would get coverage at our house but it is very poor. We have tried calling customer service and explaining our situation but they put us on hold and inevitably the phone drops out because of the poor coverage. We cant make phone calls and have a conversation with anyone because the phone drops out and we find that really fustrating when you are running a business. We will be changing provider when our contract ends.

27 Dec 2010 04:33:34 PM: I had similar problems getting a new Nokia N8 also, but persistence and patience finally paid off, and i do like the new Nokia N8, and Three have always provided excellent coverage to Brisbane metro and the Sunshine Coast, which is all i ever wanted. I now can have cheap calls to my partner, and friends on Three and Voda, but i'm so glad i didn't make the switch to Voda. Three has a better name then Vodaphone anyway, they look after their customers. Bit like the Great Optus Debacle, but don't get me started on that ... because i am NEVER GOING NEAR THEM AGAIN !

My phone is fine but my internet is TERRIBLE!
I log in and within about a minute it drops out. I log back in and it's not long that it drops out again. I was told I had great coverage but even when I log on it usualy says the connection is 'poor' and even 'very poor'. Oh my GOD - it just dropped out while I was typing this!
I sent an email enquiry regarding this to vodafone and I received a reply approximately a week later saying they assumed, given the time frame, that I had probably resolved the problem myself and to reply to the email only if I was still having troubles!
Reply I did - I expressed my shock that they would assume their customers would solve their connections problems themselves. I also told them that the only solution I'd come up with myself was to change internet providers! I received a reply apologising and promising 2 months free internet and a cr on my account. Well..I recently received the bill...there was no cr and no 2 months free.
My internet just dropped out AGAIN! Oh ...and again! I better send this before it goes again!

The worst thing is, for last week or so, my phone is always displaying " No Service" and "Emergency Call only".
So basically i am paying hundreds of dollars for emergency call only. (GREAT).

Can not call in many places around Melbourne and I have lost customers due to their voicemail system not notifying me when I had a voice mail come in. I was not told that I needed to call 121 and check my mail everyday. This is not what I paid for. I also believe I have been over charged for many calls when travelling round Australia because of roaming. Also heaps of drop out calls causing so much frustration, also they don't let you know when better deals come out with more Gigabyte download, which I believe is quite sneaky. Also I pay $114

I joined vodafone for wireless broadbrand. The first month I took out was just shocking.. Just slow. It was running on dial up speed. I request to cancel the service and took me hours just to speak to a fucking indian who didnt know what they were talking about and kept transferring me to another area to another area. I eventually spoke to Vodafone in Australia (Tasmania) and they were helpful (better than the indians)
They've sent me a satchel to return the USB and for some reason they didnt get it. It was registered express post.
I spoke to the cancellation area and they've cancelled my contract but I am still getting bills for $XX. So I have to then ring up and wait for fucking hours to get a credit because they can see I have not even used a MB.
Where is it at now? Contract has been cancelled. I recieved a bill a few weeks ago and stated it was in credit. I havent got anything since and I hope it stays that way.
As you are all aware the commercial and advertising is all about making money and getting people to join. All the players who did this got paid who knows how much. But at the end of the day the service is just shocking.

before vodafone brought 3, 3 was the best mobile carrier i have ever seen.
now after vodafone brought 3, my reception on my phone has been going downhill. i used to be able to access facebook from my bed at home, but now, it never lets me.
i thought that it was a good thing that they joined together, because there would be more antennas, but i dont know... just horrible.

I'm sorry for all of you that are finding your mobile service so terrible. I have found Vodafone to be excellent. My experience with Telstra was such a disaster that took me months to get out of. Since I have switched to Vodafone I have been 100% happy with them. Maybe there are others out there who could throw a bit of balance to the complaints?

Stupid Vodafone! The other day everyone I know on Vodafone who was near me couldn't send messages even though apparently we all had full reception and recently, instead of sending a message once, Vodafone's wisdom deemed it essential to send my message up to thirteen times!!

Rang VF waited almost 3 hours just to ask if coverage maps are true for my area & gave up.Purchased Wireless Internet & would you believe can't connect.Pity the money spent on ball bashers could not be spent on what they are here for.Now with Optus.

I was told when I took out my plan that the phone service was excellent where I live. I barely have any coverage at home. I have to find a tiny corner somewhere were I can get reception and stand with my head in a certain dirrevtion in that corner to make a call. Just impossible!!!!!!!
27 Dec 2010 04:31:32 PM: I experience the same problem and have been for a very long time. I am back in a contract with them because I was stupid enough to believe Vodafone that the coverage in my area will improve because they were taking over Three and also if I get a new handset, the coverage issues will resolve. Vodafone has taken over Three and I got a new handset - still the same problem.... actually worse. I have to sometimes turn my phone off and then put it back on to get coverage. My contract ends in 2011 and I will definitely not be resigning with them again... no matter what they offer!
3564 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is extremely poor at 27 Dec 2010 04:20:52 PM
I live in South-east melbourne and i WAS with Vodaphone. I always had bad reception, I had to go outside to use my phone, and then it barely worked. In the end i was being abused by family and friends because they could never contact me due to the crap reception i recieved from Vodaphone.
In the end i dumped Vodaphone as they offered no resolution, and kept saying it was my phone (which they supplied) and not the reception.
I am now a very happy customer of Optus and have no problem at all with reception.

I purchased a pre-paid dongle that currently has $150 credit BUT can't get coverage, THE RESPONSE ... not my problem...bit of a barbara add but NOT FUNNY, they mumbo and jumbo BUT this is simply a case that the dongle purchased in MOE, K-mart DOES NOT GET RECEPTION for the 3g services in gippsland! and there is a NO REFUND wall I've had this dongle for 5 months and spent hours trying to set up and was eventually told to go to and area that it would work! it was set up and worked in Melbourne BUT i've had $150 credit sitting on the damn thing UNABLE to connect since I purchased it

I'm tired of having to stand out on the front lawn or on the wall in the back garden when ever the mobile phone rings as this is the only place I can get reception. (Narre Warren South - VIC). VODAFONE, start investing your money in improving the services for your customers instead of fatting up the shareholders!

any one who is with vodafone at live in a certain suburb in melbourne, have had no reception for neally 2 wks, and they have done nothing about it.. so we can not receive or call anyone. I have had enough i was on hold for over 1hr to ask them about it,then when i finally got thru they said "u will have to hold again for awhile for me to help you'i didnt hold for another hr so i still have to go without reception at work... do something about it Vodafone
3550 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is mucho grande at 27 Dec 2010 04:19:55 PM
i signed up with crazy john who is a subsidiary of vodafone, chose the 'data' option for my $49 plan.
got home, phone polls between 2g and 3g so badly that calls CANNOT be maintained and quite often fail to come through at all (my friends told me often that my phone would say that i was out of coverage or some such nonsense)
so i figured out i can get semi stable signal if i turn off the 3g capabilities of my f**king smartphone which then renders the data useles.
complained to CJs about it and theyre like.....yea we dont care.
awesome.
in short, vodafone and its subsidiarys can all go f**k themselves.
also, my sister on 3 has similar problems relating to data as she cant use it due to the lack of vodafone signal.

Whenever i am moving and talking on the crappy Vodafone network (eg driving) and my phone swaps from one tower to the next i simply get cut off and the phone call cancelled. Then i have to call back and apologize to the caller that crappy Vodafone has hung up on them due to their lack of technical expertise. This happens consistently and regularly. When i am stationary and connected to the same tower it does not seem to happen. Vodafone is a joke how hard is it to transfer a call to the next tower
