26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

4828 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Absolute failure at 27 Dec 2010 07:22:06 PM
Plenty has been said about Vodafone's appalling network. The only thing to exceed it (in a negative sense) is there telephone support. I have spent hours on the phone stating the bleedin' obvious only to be lied to, jerked around, and disconnected. They're united team when they're selling you something and are happy to facilitate, transfer you, do whatever, but if you have a problem,
"I'm sorry you've called the wrong area, you'll have to call someone else". And don't get me started on f***ing 'Lara'. I have already change companies so I'm no longer affected. My memories of God-forsaken Vodafone are so traumatic that I will never use them again, even if they fix things.

Not told when signing up to an iPhone contract for 24 months that Vodafone doesn't receive a 3g signal in the suburb I live in (ACT 2905) and will require the assistance of a wireless booster. Vodafone's solution switch to 2g coverage while I'm at home which is painfully slow. Phone constantly drops out on phone calls, wont receive voicemail messages for a couple of days after they were left. I was on hold to my bank for 30 minutes and half way through a loan application I completely loss reception and dropped out. I have complained to Vodafone but their trouble shooting steps are unreasonable as they require another iPhone to compare with.

4788 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is prepaid and internet at 27 Dec 2010 07:15:29 PM
I am a single parent and cant afford a contract. Vodafone promised a prepaid service to which I would be able to use as little as $10 to recharge my mobile phone and internet so I wouldn't have to use money from my food bills to keep in touch with family and friends around the world. I have had to spend alot more then just $10 to keep these items running as they didn't tell me that I would need more then $10 to be able to finish my schooling. Being on a tight budget I can no longer afford to recharge my internet for school so I have had to stop. I feel like I have failed because the service provider is trying to bleed me dry.

Well after taking 3 attempts to even access this page through the voda 3G connection I have finally made it. Over Christmas no phone coverage at all in primary CBD. Excessively slow net and a Indian call centre operators who don't know their hand from their butt. I'm tired of it. I use to fly the flag for you Vodafone but now.... Well I'll keep it civil.... Disaster is all I can say

I am have two mobiles, one with Vodafone and one with Transact which runs off the Vodafone network. Both phones are not getting SMS's on time or not at all. Obviously this is a common problem because I had to ring CBA to turn off my SMS security verication because it just did not work.
I am also expriencing problems ringing overseas mobiles, the receiver can not hear my voice. Use a Telstra mobile or landline and it works straight away.

its about time someone was able to do something about the service. i tried going into the store in Elizabeth city center and they practicably called me a lier and was really rude about it too. they tried to say i have full service when i know i dont, it always drops out in my home no matter what room. iv even had to buy a home phone so i didnt loose calls from work. even sometimes i cant even message and have to wait till it comes back. they said it could be a faulty sim card and yet even tho they replaced it, nothing has changed. im paying heaps for a service they dont even give me properly. i hope this law suit helps everyone like me out that can not afford to do something about it.

My reception cuts in and out both at my work place and at home. Both places of which are located in the north and south side of Canberra. Phonecalls are always a challenge and my voice-mail messages take days to come to my visual voice-mail. Not to mention text and mms messages. I get them (MMS) at least 8-9 hours minimum after a friend tells me they have texted one. Its so pathetic and disappointing, I'm glad this website exists. What's more, how about Vodafone actually upgrades their towers like they always say over the phone?? How about they take some of their sponsorship dollars away from things like the cricket and focus more on their service.

4466 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Very at 27 Dec 2010 06:10:26 PM
I always have one or two bars of reception, i have never had full reception ever since joining on vodafone a few months ago. my phone calls drop out constantly. i have tried contacting them through their customer service line, had no luck, they told me they could not access my information (billing) untill a certain date, they then promised they would call me on a specific date and time. That day i checked on 'My Vodafone' and I found out i could access the information that they claimed they could not get. On top of that they never called back on the day and time they said they would. On top of all that mess, when i got my phone bill the next month, they told me i owed $165 that is overdue, for some unknown reason, since i am on a $79 UNLIMITED plan. When i called to ask where this $165 fee came from, they could not explain it and told me they had to speak to their manager and they would call me back. It has been 2 weeks since that happened and they still have not called me back. Not happy at all, If i knew this was the service you get with Vodafone i would of gone with another company.

Constant call drop outs, data drop outs, roaming constantly to try to get a connection are all common problems I have had in the last three years. Not to mention the lack of coverage in areas which I believe are not remote across Australia. Long waiting times on call service line have continued. Any form of compensation on the bill? No chance.

My husband had a vodafone mobile for aout a year before he passed away, we often spoke about switching to a new carrier howver never got around to it before he died.
For the entire period we never received bills, the phone would be constantly disconnected due to unpaid bills, vodafone would promise to resend the bill and demand the outstanding amount be paid or the phone wouldnt be reconnected, as we had a business we could not be without a phone so we would pay the bill but still the bill would not arrive. We complained about this numerous times we were assured it would be corrected however prior to my husband diying 4 motnhs ago it was still not reticifed and they have been chasing payment for his final bill even asking to speak with him and becoming irate when they are told it is not possible.
During the time of all this happening the reception on the vodafone was crap even when we were standing right near a tower the phone would constantly drop out and we were forever having drop out issues.
Thankyou for putting this site together and allowig us to air our vodafails!

A couple of months ago, as soon as my calls connected, the phone cut out and that was that. No calls could me made or received. Both my husband and I are with vodafone so we were unable to contact anyone for a week or so. I rang a number of times and complained that there was no point having a contract with vodafone if I couldn't ever make or receive calls and the best I got was 2 months credit for both of us. What's the point of credit if you can't use the phone though!!
CAn anyone confirm if they have successfully been able to get out of their contract???? AS much as it pains me, I think a switch to Telstra is the only option if in Tassie.

Phone has full service but callers are being told that it is switched off or out of range. Text messages being delivered up to 6-7 hours later than being sent (and usually all at once). Voicemail messages being delivered up to 48 hours after being left. "No Service" in the centre of major metropolitan areas.

We are moving our business of nearly 2000 staff to another provider who actually know what they are doing.

As per all other complaints I have known about this conspiracy for quite some time. I have talked to quite a few people about this being a conspiracy as in continous drop outs, connection failures, the phone turning off, rebooting on its own, and it is a pain in the arse. For one phone call I can end up re dialling up to four times, which means I am being charged the connection fee that many times. This is Vodaphones way of making more money out of me for that one call. Not happy at all. Will be seeing Vodafail soon.

I am signed up for 24month contract at $114 per month - since then I have had hardly any coverage in the area that I live , continual drop out and excessive billing over my $114 per month. A lot of the time when I call my message bank it drops out and I have to recall again when I have reception. My business depends on phone calls and it is embarrassing and costly to have to keep calling my clients back. I not only want out of contract but want to be compensated for lousy service. 3878 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is international calling barred to certain countries : Cuba at 27 Dec 2010 04:48:45 PM
Vodaphone blocks calls to Cuba and also FROM cuba, this is after advertising on their website that you can make all international calls in certain cap plans. But once you sign up with then on a contract they say oh you can call cuba and "we dont know when it'll be fixed". They are highly deceptive in their advertising and border or illegal or fraudulent practices. I realize that this particular problem will not affect many people but Australia is a multicultural country and this sort of deceptive behaviour by vodaphone affects the Spanish speaking diaspora in Australia.

So here it is. As ex staff member of Vodafone, I was disgusted to find out that Vodafone actually charge you on their premium 123 service to wait on their queues. When you ring 123 in sit on their queue, which lately are long and often you pay to sit their listening to advertising and music. Instead of actually charging you when a rep answers your call they decided to charge you to wait on the queue. Once upon time the Service Level on the 123 calls was around 95% calls answered within under 30 seconds. As a caller on 123 this Service Level is out the door. I spend so much time waiting such that I never call this service ever again. To make matters worse most customer service calls are handled overseas and after trying to get a copy of a plan agreement 5 times I will not call their customer service lines ever again. Instead I call friends that still work for Vodafone to help. I cannot believe that Vodafone can charge YOU/US to pay a premium charge to wait for their insufficient staffing levels to be able to answer your call. How is this right. The next time you call 123 and you go through to a queue remember you are paying top top dollar to listen to their advertising and rank music.
27 Dec 2010 04:53:50 PM: You're calling a premium number and complaining about cost? Just call the 1555 number then if you don't want to pay, it's not like they force you to call 123.

Signed a 2 year contract in Nov 2009 and have had nothing but problems since. 2 software reloads and a new handset have made no difference. Call dropouts and no reception in places like Batemans Bay and Narooma. Add to tath the terrible assistance you get when you ring them, and Vodaphone is simply a joke.

My plan was to sit it out til Nov 2012 when my contract would be up. However with this website, maybe something can be done to show Vodaphone they can't offer a service that doesn't actually exist.

The fact they came out on the news tonight and apologised for the bad service shows they know something is wrong.

Looing forward to seeing what happens from here.................

I thought I was the only one. Vodafone used to be at the top of its game - looks like it's another case of getting too big too quickly. I was out one night in Sydney and had to get a friend to a medical centre urgently - I tried using the map on my i-phone but the 3G cut out, then the signal was out so I couldn't dial the medical centre for directions. In the end we drove to the nearest hospital. Thankfully my friend was okay - it could have been more far more serious though.

I have had no 3G coverage for about 3 weeks now in Gungahlin area and all over Canberra.. I thought it was my phone. I contacted Vodafone and waited 90mins for me to speak to someone.. Just to tell me how to switch 3G off my phone and I could make and receive calls. With this function now switched off! I have unlimited and rely on this phone for work and personal calls.. I visited a local vodafail store on christmas eve wanting to cancel my account and they said that they could not process this.. That I had to call disconnections and I said..what another 90 min wait on the phone!! I am so over it.... also my mobile broadband is due to expire next month and I am disconnecting that too.... this is flamin' ridiculous! The sales person at Vodafone also said the 3G failure was widespread over Canberra and they have had no response to their emails to the company! Go figure...

I have been with Vodafone for years and never really had any problems with either reception or customer service. Over the last 6 months I have no reception in most places and when I do it takes minutes to even start ringing a number, my voice mails take hours and/or days to come through and when they do I cant even access them!! When people try to call me it goes straight to voice mail or just beeps and my phone doesn't even ring!! I have called their customer service so many times and keep speaking to useless people who tell me that "Australia is a large country, so you cant have reception everywhere" and if I want to leave I have to pay a massive exit fee... anyways I have logged a complaint with the ITO and they were great and say I have grounds to get out of my contact. I would urge everyone to do the same! I am still waiting to hear from Vodafone but hopefully this time in a few weeks I will be with Telstra!

2 year contract with 16 months left, living on Bribie Island, QLD. We can go for days with no service. When we get service it is zero to all bars, varying by the minute, most times, no 3G at home mst times so use WiFi all the time at home which I did not need to do with Optus.

Given up trying to talk to the Indians several times without success as even after an hour wait, no answer, I don't have that sort of time.

I have access to 2 x Nokia and 1 x Huawei smart phones, all with the same problems so it is not the phones. I am in the industry and know that their cell site is badly designed and there is not enough equipment to handle the traffic. We are approx 500m line of sight from the cell site.

Fortunately I send most of my time away from home and most times, the service is OK as I am overseas. If only Vodafone's Australian network was as good as their NZ network.

My wife is on Telstra, no problems, Optus was not brilliant but OK, Vodafone sucks.

I have had no billing problems and their shop in Morayfield was excellent but one of their shop in Chermside was the pits, 1 1/2 hours to open an account???

I have two phones through vodafone and spend about 250 to $270 a month with them one month they sent me a bill for $500 I thought it must be because I did not pay my bill on time on there system the next month it was even more $1000+ they started sending me letters that I must pay or have my service cut off, I am very busy but had to ring them to see what was going on they told me that my unlimited plan was limited which pissed me off, but there was still no reason for the bills to be so high I spent two days on the phone trying to sort it out instead of running my business and earning money I was talking to people who couldn't care less about the issue at hand.
I ended up speaking to someone in head office in Sydney I think they worked out that my blackberry was connected to the net the whole time which it is supposed to be but they where billing me for each minute when there not supposed to.
There service is crap and let's me down on a daily bases it is so consistently crap I am totally used to it now.
Thanks to who set this site up and letting me have a whinge.

Ridiculous service and a damn rip off. Good on you for taking action. Its unfair to all us customers who have to pay them for a service we dont fucking get.

I have a Vodafone prepaid mobile broadband stick which I mainly use whe travelling. I recently topped it up as we were moving house within the ACT to Kambah and did not want to be off the net while bigpond did their shift.

Couldn't get any coverage at the new house however even though it is in the standard coverage map. Called up Vodafone got an Indian guy at the call centre - he had a look at his version of the coverage map and advised me that where we are only has an outside coverage i.e. the modem won't connect to the network from inside the house but might work from outside.

So we went outside with the laptop and tried to connect on the street - needless to say it didn't work but I have a feeling the call centre guy must be having a bit of a chuckle.

Fortunately for me I have only lost the pre paid value but I really feel for those who have signed on for bigger contracts with this company.

Virtually no mobile broadband signal in Canberra. Constant dropouts which I thought must have just been me til i was talking to mate online in a different Canberra suburb, and he dropped out at the same time as I did - another Vodafone customer... Then, after 20 months of having problems with getting their wireless internet usage meter to work, and getting charged for excess usage, I have finally given up on this crap provider and gone to Telstra with 4 months to run on my Vodafone contract. That's how over it I am - I am paying them $100 month for a 'service' I am no longer using just so that I can use my internet uninterrupted.

I rely on my phone for my wireless broadband and it often takes quite a while to get any connectivity. It is also incredibly slow. I have called Vodafone customer service many times and been told my only option is to pay out my plan (ie $70 x each month left) in order to leave the contract. I just don't have that kind of money! I am paying full price for a service which rarely works. You couldn't get away with this in other industries outside telecommunications.

We are a small company in Canberra and we were contacted and convinced 2 years ago by a Vodafone salesperson to move all of our mobiles over to a more cost effective group account. We initially told the salesperson that coverage is not suitable for us because we need support for people travelling interstate and into regional areas. However, the salesperson convinced us that within 3 months that the Vodafone network was undergoing a major upgrade and that coverage would be even better than their competitors. We have finally moved back to Telstra - we fell for the oldest trick in the book. Before the move back we even struggled with suitable coverage with Vodafone even in our office located in central Canberra.

So the touch screen on my phone stops working. Okay, fair enough that's from overuse not Vodafones fault.
But then I go into the store and ask them about it. They tell me "Oh it costs $40 for you to give us your phone to fix and then we'll minus that off the actual repair bill. It should take around 2 weeks to find out what's wrong and then fix it."
So I ask what do I do in the meantime? I need a phone.
The lady tells me, "We do have replacement phones, but we've got so many repairs sent off right now, we don't have many left." I don't really care at this point, even if I have a brick phone as a temporary replacement.
So she goes and looks at the replacement phones and comes back. "I'm sorry, we do have replacement phones, but we don't have any chargers for them."

Seriously? Vodafone? What kind of business doesn't have chargers for their phones? Really?
So the next day i go to one of those little mobile phone repair shops that they have in the malls. $80? Half an hour? And my phone is fixed and back to me.

Seriously Vodafone, step up. You suck and will never be getting anything from me. Ever.

It's the Broadband. We signed up for the 2GB plan {yes, this was a little while ago}. The signal kept dropping out during a download of updates for some of my software. I'd carefully check the meter, and it showed we'd used less than 100Mb of data, so I kept going.

Turned out later that their meter can take up to TWO DAYS to update, which means if you're trying to be careful with the data usage to not get hit with an overuse charge, IT'S NO USE!!!! You could be over by 1GB {solely because THEIR CRAPPY CONNECTION meant the update had to keep on trying and restarting} and not know!!
27 Dec 2010 01:22:49 PM: Vodafone broadband is the worst ive ever used. i ended up ringing them between 10-20 times to get off the contract because it NEVER worked. They agreed saying i could get off contract and they would send me out a parcel so as i could return the modem. It took THREE MONTHS for me to receive this parcel after numerous (and sometimes abusive) phone calls to them, telling them i would not pay them a penny. Then i noticed they were trying to recover $100 off me through debt recovery!! I couldnt believe it, i didn't even have 1 day of working broadband. Needless to say, they didn't get a cent out of me and the letter eventually stopped... However i still don't know whether this will show up as a black mark on my credit or what. Extremely frustrating dealing with this company.

Reception is terrible most places I go, including the CBD which you would think would have excellent reception. Text messages are usually delayed sometimes taking over 24 hours to make it to their destination. Text messages usually pile up on the network and come in a bulk package, and MMS is not even worth bothering with, they don't show up most of the time. Phonecalls usually cut out after only a few minutes with a network error. Oh and the data service may as well not even exist, my phone connects to Vodafail internet but rarely downloads any data at all.

2310 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Bad at 27 Dec 2010 12:28:47 PM
The last three months have been really bad, continual drop outs even in normally good service areas and trying to get an Ipad connected to a pre-paid service in shop, took me four visits before service reps got it right. Was given the wrong micro-sim on two occasions. Also your call rates stink, looking at my recent calls to Papua New Guinea, how the hell can you justify (copied from my call history):

24/12/2010 12:22:02 Voice 67571733*** 00:00:02 INT $6.39
3/12/2010 18:11:26 Voice 67573210*** 00:01:23 INT $12.39
22/12/2010 19:20:46 Voice 67573210*** 00:00:02 INT $6.39

Two second connection to a voice mail and get charged bloody $6.39, absolute garbage.
27 Dec 2010 12:32:16 PM: WOW that's totally crazy!
27 Dec 2010 10:32:19 PM: sounds about right.

Calling a backwater country to an automated line which is provided by an entirely different carrier and therefore charges Vodafone for you to use.

6 bucks a minute sounds right on the money.

2298 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is BREAK YOUR CONTRACT at 27 Dec 2010 12:26:47 PM
GUYS VODAFONE IS ALLOWING PEOPLE TO GET OUT OF THEIR CONTRACTS FOR FREE. SO IF YOU'RE HAVING PROBLEMS TAKE UP THE OFFER TO BREAK IT. THEN GO TO JBHIFI SWITCH TO TELSTRA AND YOU WILL GET A $200 GIFTCARD FOR SWITCHING!! SO NOT ONLY IS IT A BETTER NETWORK BUT YOU ALSO GET A $200 GIFTCARD FOR FREE!!!!
27 Dec 2010 12:43:47 PM: tell me more!!!!
27 Dec 2010 12:48:53 PM: I called Vodafone 2 weeks ago complaining of poor coverage and to terminate they wanted to charge me $600 since I have about 1 year left. Is there something different I need to do so I can terminate for free and take up Telstra as my provider?
28 Dec 2010 10:58:22 AM: can you do this in store? what about the early exit fee???
29 Dec 2010 09:37:27 AM: but what if your phones locked with vodafone???

2287 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is poo at 27 Dec 2010 12:24:29 PM
I switched to Vodafone a couple of years back. I was in a long-distance relationship in Qld and wanted to take advantage of their free credit between customers deal. On several occasions, while I was halfway through a conversation with my boyfriend, the call didn't exactly cut out - it got switched. Suddenly I was speaking to unknown people. Halfway through a call, my call got patched into someone else's call, and after about 30 seconds of going "Hello? hello? What's going on?" the call would cut out.

When I complained to Vodafone, they told me it must be my phone doing something. I had purchased my Nokia from their store, and it was THEIR NETWORK which was switching my calls. Thank God I wasn't trying to use that service for anything confidential; anyone could have been patched into my calls at any time.
