Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

420 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Major Fail at 17 Dec 2010 03:49:53 PM
I have been a Vodafone customer for over 5 years now. Last year I signed into a mobile broadband internet contract at $40 month. Their broadband service is hopeless! Can never get a signal and when I do it drops out within minutes. Since June of last year I have been paying for a service that doesn't work. I have phoned numerous times to report the issues only to be sent another modem, another SIM and a wireless dock all of which have failed. For four months now I have been calling to complain about the service and register the problem. I am always told that the "cancellation team" will phone back but they never do. After waiting on hold for over an hour last week I finally was able to speak to someone who informed me that the matter needed to be investigated and that I could not break my contract without paying a fee. A fee! I've been paying $40 per month for a service that doesn't work! After informing Vodafone that I would be taking my complain further they decided to reduce my mobile broadband from $40 month to $10 and was told that this was a very good offer! They fail to see that I am stil paying for a service that doesn't work. I will be taking this further as this is in no way good enough.
Another issue (not a major one but still an issue) I have informed Vodafone of my change of address six times over the past 12 months yet they still have the previous address listed.
Had it!

418 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is THE WORST! at 17 Dec 2010 03:46:46 PM
It is rare that I will have a phone call without it dropping out at least once. The record so far is 12 times throughout one conversation with a friend. In trying to reach customer service, I called 9 times only to be put on hold and then for the call to just drop out. I am the most easy going customer but this is out of control. Thank you for creating Vodafail and I hope the ACCC either does something about it or shuts them down. They are cutting corners to save a dollar at the expense of the customers. It's the worst service of all time... and that is saying something.

416 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is MASSIVE FAIL at 17 Dec 2010 03:43:39 PM
CALLS - Every time I go to make a call, the phone will hang for 30-60 seconds before it can connect through. Every second call I make will also drop out after 5-10 minutes.
DATA - my contract comes with 2GB of data - my smartphone will consistently tell me that I have connectivity issues. One minute I can get it connected to my work emaail, the next it drops off and constantly displays "error conencting" message, somtimes for hours on end.
VODAFONE CUSTOMER SERVICE - tried yesterday for 3 hours to get through to speak to someone, anyone except GODDAM LARA!!!!! After being on hold for anywhere between 15-45mins, my calls simply drop dead. This happened 4 times yesterday. HOW DO I SPEAK TO SOMEONE???

For over a month my Vodafail's crappy reception and coverage have caused chaos as txt messages from weeks finally get to my phone at a WEAK reception area... I took my phone to the Vodafail kiosk and they just told me to swap sim cards, did that and still fail, at least, Vodafail is consistent, I don't get my txt messages until days after, Vodafail doesn't inform customers, until they have a riot on their hands...=.= voda FAIL!

I'm a city dweller and over the past 2 months i have had numerous problems, with call drop outs, phone freezing during a call, receiving voicemail 12 hours later but no missed call and no data streaming! But the biggest and most ridiculous problem of all is how sitting in my lounge room (not moving) my phone will go from full reception and 3G status to low to searching to no reception in a period of 5 minutes?!? then I have to turn my phone off and try again! Seriously fix this problem!

412 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is OH MY GOD at 17 Dec 2010 03:40:59 PM
Thank you to the blessed individual who set up Vodafail. I can't make calls from my bedroom (which is in Newtown - hardly rural) and have to go out onto the street searching for a signal. And I was just charged $30 in data fees over a weekend when I didn't even pick up my phone!!! Then had to spend half a day on hold to Customer Care (oh Lara your voice is like fingernails down a blackboard) to be told they couldn't supply the details of said downloads. They agreed to credit my account when I said it was obviously an error but how am I ever to trust my bill again. AHHHHHGGGGG

411 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is totaly crap!!! at 17 Dec 2010 03:40:23 PM
I have been a Vodacrap customer since about 2000 ... but recently they have gone to the dogs. Apart from having become accustomed to getting voice mail messages up to a week after they are sent, dropped calls (almost each call from the center of Sydney), and 'no service' many times a day I have had a MAJOR issue with the Vodacrap outgoing mail server.

The vodacrap outgoing mail server (ie I can receive but I can't send email) has not been working since JULY (6 months). They say it is intermittent... I disagree, it is constant. They have acknowledged it is a technical problem with their server, on many iphones, and not with settings on my handset. During the many calls made to the help desk I was typically told 'we are working on it' but they can't provide any information on when it would be resolved. Alternatively I have been told it would be resolved in a few days... which never eventuated.
When I emailed Vodafone complaints I got:
"Thank you for your email.
I regret the difficulties you have been experiencing with this issue and that you have not been kept up to date. The issue has been bigger than fist anticipated and this has led to the delays, please be assured it has Vodafone's full attention and it's being treated as a high priority.
Kind regards,
Sharon
Correspondence Team"
No kidding the issue is bigger than you thought... that was at about one month into your outgoing mail server not working!

In desperation I have contacted the TIO ... but effectively they have just referred the problem back to Vodacrap, which, you guessed it, they have not solved.

.... thanks for letting me vent my frustration!

410 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Massive at 17 Dec 2010 03:40:19 PM
I had their mobile internet USB device on contract and had repeated dropouts whilst living in Melbourne, then they screwed with the billing date causing me to exceed my data limit and end up with a referred debt. Only recently did I get this fixed but still had to pay the monthly service fee while I had the device even though it worked like crap, we then got their prepaid one and same issues again in both Melbourne and Albury. Since gone to Optus, costs more for the data but I get 1mb+ instead of the 50kb I was getting on Vodafone. I think they can see how many times I had to reconnect and should be able to guage that as a reason for full refund of ALL costs associated with the service. When I spoke to them 2 weeks ago they said they have no issue with the service.....

409 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Very Bad at 17 Dec 2010 03:40:08 PM
I thought it was a problem with my iPhone 3GS - phone would lose coverage, calls went straight to voicemail and could not make calls even when the phone showed reception. I was going to buy a new phone. I solved the "problem" by turning off 3G and running off the much slower 2G network. Then I saw the SMH article and realised it is Vodafone's 3G network and not my phone!

406 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Very fail...Trust me I know - I just finished working there! at 17 Dec 2010 03:38:09 PM
I have been with Voda since 2000, over 10 yes now. It is the mis-management of technology and how it can best serve the customers. Whole organizations works in silos or separate business units, very disconnected, especially after the merger with Hutchison or '3 Mobile'. Managers look after you depending upon which previous organization you worked for.. They gave tried to get the culture working but it's just hard work and people have their heads in the sand. I had to get outta there. No one really does any diligence checks about massive network or customer impacting changes, they happen on the fly and people working there have a typical cow-boy attitude of just 'winging it'...

404 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Epic Fail at 17 Dec 2010 03:37:11 PM
I am a reasonably long time Vodafone customer (4-5 years). I have Vodafone Cover Me insurance with my monthly plan. I have two numbers and two phones and pay approximately $150 a month including my insurance premiums. I recently broke my phone and, much to my amazement, was informed that I would be receiving a refurbished handset. I couldn't believe what I was hearing... Absolutely incredible. Anyway, I immediately wrote to them and explained that I would never have elected to pay for insurance if it did not involve receiving a new phone in the event of an accident. Naturally, being Vodafone, I heard nothing for an entire month (not even if my claim had been approved.) I finally decided to give them a call and some horrible sounding woman told me that it had been decided that I would still receive a refurbished handset, regardless of my complaint. Thanks for telling me! Then goes on to say that she can approve it right now over the phone and have it sent out to me (so why couldn't this have been done several weeks ago, sorry?) Anyway, it arrived today with no micro-sim, even though I specifically mentioned that the micro-sim was damaged and could not be used. So I went to Vodafone and they actually tried to charge me for a new sim at the shop! I managed to convince her that that was BS and she ended up giving it to me for free. THEN I get back to activate it at I can't get through to Voda customer care to activate the SIM, I just get redirected by the automated service to a voice system about payment methods that I didn't even want, then a voice that says 'Sorry, we seem to be experiencing difficulties. Please try again later.' Good work Vodafone! F$%king dumb sh#$s.

3G model locked to Vodafone (PCMCIA card plugged into a router), all bought as a package from a Vodafone company store. Router (Linksys) branded Vodafone externally and internally. Get FULL 3G SIGNAL in William St, but 0 bandwidth - very common practice. Oh, Vodafone said "we won't support the Linksys router", despite having SOLD it to us.

402 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Total Fail at 17 Dec 2010 03:36:10 PM
Totally unacceptable service - depend (like many) on my mobile for work and it can drop out from full signal to no signal in one place without me moving a millimetre. So bad on a recent event I had to divert to landline (took nearly 2 hours for the mobile connection to stay up for me to do the diversion mind you) and be tied to my desk, miss calls - all on a time critical event.

Enough for me, I've dumped vodafail and gone to Telstra for my phone, ipad & mobile broadband. Now have service in areas I've never seen a signal before and so far no dropouts - relief!

401 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Cataclysmic at 17 Dec 2010 03:34:11 PM
I'm one of the lucky ones. I was with them for a year with an iPhone 3GS - mainly because Telstra was expensive and we're in an Optus black spot here. Always had call dropouts, but accepted it as part of the digital network - until, that is, we had a blackout at home and a sick child. Phones were out, and I couldn't get a signal fro Vodafone anywhere, despite being in their "3G coverage area".

Once child was sorted at hospital, I'd had enough. They told me "go out on the road to make a call - we only guarantee signal to the street - despite being on the top of a hill and facing the tower.

I packed up both phones, cancelled the plans and ported the numbers and told them to shove the service - they had breached their contract. They reluctantly agreed to termination fees, and allowed me to port that day (to Telstra), but took them 2 months to send me the post-paid satchels to return the phones. And the whole time they kept billing me - PLUS $1000 cancellation fee !!!

While their customer service may have improved in some areas (i.e. the Twitter guys were very good), their network SUCKS

This has too often been in relation to work offers and as I am a sole trader I have missed out on at least $20,000 worth of work that has gone elsewhere because I have not responded to clients requests soon enough. I have the same issues as everyone else, constant "call failed" when reception has full bars.... 3G service is appalling and half the time I never have any reception in Rozelle!! Its 5 mins from the CBD WTF??
I called and complained in November - as one one day I had absolutely no service, nor did my 3 friends... I was offered a $10 discount off my bill. After escalating the complaint further, they eventually advised that I would get my monthly bill for November waived. It did not surprise me to receive the November bill, and sure enough, I was charged!!! When I rang to complain the consultant I spoke with claimed to have no idea about the ongoing service issues. Clearly vodafone has failed to even brief their customer service team of these issues, which only makes dealing with them more difficult (not to mention the issues faced with communicating to someone who does not speak English well.
I hope the ACCC rips them to shreds.

We have just gone to VodaFail with iphone4. The reception and dropout are useless.Thank godness we kept the 3 phone which show 6 bars reception when Voda has 1 or none. We ere also asked to go back to 2g but with little results. We requested a transfer to 3 and this was denied. We have wasted hours on the phone and lost numdreds of calls. Clearly in its present form Voda is not fit for use in business and they should be prepared to refund all fees to date and fix the network.

I've been a vodafone customer in Aus for the last 6 years & 5 years prior to that in NZ. I used to love vodafone.....until 3 months ago. For the last 3 months I have set my phone to 2G only removing myself from the 3G nightmare. I have gone through every test there is over countless hrs on the phone and in the store. New sim, new settings, it's your phone, etc etc everything OTHER than THEIR network.

To my anger when the SMH article showed up detailing the massive issues being faced by customers on the 3G network. As such I have complained, complained and complained. They offered me a 30 dollar rebate. Considering I haven't been able to use my 1gig data allowance for over 3 months on my $79.00 cap this is an insult.

I have just read on the SMH website that the issue has now been "fixed" and the 3G network should be back to normal....as such I have switched my phone back onto 3G and will test over the weekend. However, since writing this my phone has said "searching" with a no signal icon on my phone....I am not holding out hope...telstra here I come!

367 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is As lost it's way at 17 Dec 2010 03:05:17 PM
I've been a Vodafone customer since 2004 and have been happy with their service up until the last year now. Vodafone has NOT done a thing about their networks coverage, in fact you can't even drive from Melbourne to Swan Hill/Mildura and use your phone and in areas where they have coverage (going on their coverage maps) you end up with crap coverage or no coverage. Their base station in my town is always going off line and we have had days of no service at all and their customer care people tell you there is no issues and it must be your phone. Bullsh@t it's my phone. If that's the case the 5 (old) mobile phones I have are faulty?? No it's your stupid network that's at faulty. I have only just a couple of months ago moved the other family members mobiles that were on with Vodafone to Optus. Optus might not be much better but at least their network where I am works and they are improving and installing more base stations. I was told for Vodafone managment after I sent them a letter about their poor network coverage that the number one reason people leave Vodafone was because of coverage in country areas and you know what they are doing about that? They are spending money on their network and putting up more base stations in the cities, WTF!!! You have coverage problems in the country so you put more base stations up in the cities? How does that help the coverage in the country?? It's pointless having great plans when you don't have coverage. Vodafone needs to wake up to themselves and spend money and fix their network. Vodafone are going to end up being a city only mobile phone carrier.

When Switching to Telstra I had to go to the Vodafone store to get my customer number. It took 45mins in a queue for them to look up the system and obtain my number. I Then walked back to the Telstra shop and was served within 10 secs of walking in the door. When I spoek with Vodafone at one stage I was advised that if I could log three dropped calls within 48 hours they would help me terminate my contract early. 347 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Its the worse decision I have made at 17 Dec 2010 02:53:54 PM
My partner and I recently changed network providers and we shopped around and as he was with 3 and always had good reception we decided to go with 3. However, we were asked by a staff member at 3 "why 3? Why not Vodafone? We will be getting rid of 3 soon so you're better off with Vodafone", so we went with Vodafone. It is the biggest mistake of my life. If I thought I had bad reception with Optus I had it even worse with Vodafone. I had no reception in the city or even if I apparently did have reception I couldn't make calls. Internet is slow, I receive text messages over 4 hours after they are sent (and that's being generous), my friends ask me why my phone is switched off etc. Its CRAP!!! I should have just stayed with Optus!

Annoying yes, however have you ever tried the call centre at Optus. I think that is the angriest I have ever been. I can only describe it as white anger.

343 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Give me a shotgun and leave me alone in the room with Vodafone... at 17 Dec 2010 02:52:30 PM
Just this morning I sent the following e-mail to Vodafone. Then I saw a news article on SMH and this site was linked to it.

--- Sent today 17/12/2010 at 9am ---
Hi,

A couple of years ago, after being with Vodafone Prepaid for several years, I had a number of bad experiences with credit disappearing and poor Customer Care calls and decided to port my number to Optus, a decision I was extremely happy with.

Several weeks ago, I decided to purchase the HTC Desire HD (only available through Vodafone) on a 12 month contract and so I ported my number back to Vodafone in order to get the phone. Since then, several things have occurred that have made me regret my decision and I would like to express my dissatisfaction:

1. My number took a little over 48 hours to port, despite being told that it would only take several hours by the lady at the store. This was only a minor inconvenience, granted, but an annoyance still.

2. I have had a number of occasions when people have been trying to call me and my phone comes up as being switched off or unavailable. I believe reception with the Vodafone network, while decent, is so choppy and I can't predict the reception blackspots, usually in the same area that I otherwise receive great reception. This is disruptive to my work (I work 2 jobs and really need my phone on me at all times due to the nature of my work).

3. I paid my first phone bill (due 30 December) on Monday (13 December). Despite this, I have received a number of e-mail notifications and text messages subsequent to paying, telling me that I still owe the money. It is now 4 days later and MyVodafone still lists money owing. Can you please fix this.

4. I have tried for two days to call Customer Care, at various points throughout the day. I constantly receive the message that "due to unexpected large volumes of callers...." nobody is able to take my call. Top this with the fact that Customer Care are only open on weekdays from 8am to 8pm, and the aforementioned problems, this is ridiculously poor customer service.

I'm sorry for the negativity of this message, however I've completely regretted moving back to Vodafone and am contemplating leaving your company again if things don't improve; I have regretted my decision to leave Optus and it's only 3 weeks in to my 12 month contract.

Can you please tell me how you are addressing the problems I'm experiencing.

Many thanks,
XXXX

Service has been steadily getting worse for the past 6 months with hours and hours of "No Service" messages without any ownership from VF that there's an issue. Yesterday at 5pm I had NO SERVICE again between Crows Nest and Frenchs Forest for over an hour whilst trying to inform my young children's carer that I would be late. What's worse is I'm under contract till August and do not have time to waste waiting on a ridiculously long customer service cue. As far as I'm concerned they're breaching their contract with me but as the consumer you have no recourse. Shame Vodafone. You have to wonder if this is the work of the Hutchison Leadership Team after the takeover. Merger my %$%^#.

I even paid out my contract as it was that frustrating!!!!! Vodafone should just shut down as there is no solution for this issue!!!

I've had to switch off the 3G on my phone because I can't actually be sure that I will receive calls or txt messages of any kind at the time they're sent - or even within 24 hours. Extremely frustrating!

I have screen shots showing no service at various places around Sydney CBD where I live and work.

Not sure how "SomewhereElse" thinks this is an overblown issue - do you work for Voda by any chance - only someone who wasn't actually experiencing the problems would think it wasn't an issue.

Our problem is that since July 2010 we have been unable to send an email from our iphones. I have an iphone 4 and my husband an iphone 3GS. According to Vodafone they have had a problem with their server and the Apple software and since July have not been able to work out how to fix it. We have managed to be given a reduction in our monthly plan fee until the problem is fixed but they have no idea as to when we will be able to send emails. They initially suggested we send emails via the web but we aren't happy with a substandard service. Only after calling the ombudsman's office did we get any refund for the partial service. We'd rather have the full service! Interestingly, we are currently in New Zealand for a couple of weeks and spekaing to Vodafone users here they don't have any trouble sending emails. Our email addresses are via our company but that should not effect the ability to send an email from our iphone.

Terrible reception - poor coverage in Sydney metro and random drop outs even in the CBD!
Messaging - Missing or Delayed MMS with some up to over a day!
3G data - What data? 56K modems can download pages faster than Voda's mobile "broadband"
Customer service - should be renamed to customer suffering department. If your experiencing delays, where was the extra resources and communications? The Head of Customer Service should be fired. What a joke.

I called Vodafone straight after work to report some missing texts and the recording says they are now offering customer service 24hrs a day. Great!

Then I get a '40 minute wait' message. I leave a message and they called me back 1.5hours later. I told them I was missing a large number of texts over the last 2 months. She said she would transfer me to the 'Technical Department'.

I then get a '20 minute wait message' which was *immediately followed by* another message saying, "Sorry we are closed for the day, please call again tomorrow." and I was hung up on. Wth happened to their 24 hr a day service?!??!

Really nice way to deal with a phone call - not.

Went to a Telstra store the very next day to look at new plans.

281 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is an EPIC FAILURE at 17 Dec 2010 02:27:28 PM
On the weekend of 27/28 November I literally had NO Vodafail service for the entire weekend. At first I thought my new handset was faulty, so I charge up my old handset and put my SIM in. That didn't work so figured it was Vodafail.

Does Vodafail's "Lara" work on the weekend? No! The 24 hotline number was constantly engaged so I ended up ringing up the 24/7 business line - from my landline of course as my mobile didn't work at all. The woman told me she couldn't help, left me on hold for ages and then eventually I got a dead phone line and they'd hung up on me. Lovely.

My sister in WA got an apology text yesterday - I never got one and I'm in Sydney where many of the problems have been. Where is my apology?

I'm talking about customer service this time, and the endless phone queues and run around whenever you call them.

I tried to change my number to vodafone earlier this year (my employer was taking over my phone account) and the operation they said would take 'a few hours' took 6 days. I called them every day, was always kept on hold for over an hour, and was told every time that it would be resolved in a 'few hours'. I was hung up on several times - not on purpose, because I was being rude, but accidentally, because they didn't know how to use their hold/transfer functions. The first day I spoke to 4 different people just trying to get my number transfered, the first of whom was the worst informed customer service person I've ever worked with (I knew more them him).

And I suspect the whole thing too so long because they had me black marked because I got angry when they refused to refund my credit after I'd been on the phone to them for hours. They tried to claim it was my fault for calling the number from their store's website instead of the number for existing customers - even though I was a new customer and had never heard of either number.

Wasn't offered insurance for new phone at the time of upgrade, and since told that it can't be purchased after getting the phone. Calls dropping out. Constant searching for 3g and therefore draining my battery, have since turned off 3g and oh guess what... my battery has now lasted over 30 hours. Customer service is a complete joke... at least 60 mins wait whenever you want to speak to them. I live about 8kms from Sydney CBD, I would expect to have a better connection/reception and I am like everyone else on here disapointed to say the least with these issues, call fail, call cannot be connected, can't always get your balance from 1512 as its not avaiable and even when it is you never know when the balance was updated....and then of course you have to look at your balance and then take 10% (GST) off your remaining balance to figure out what you actually have left so that you don't go over your cap... or maybe this is a ploy to get you to go over it to make yet more money from you..suck it up vodafone, sort out the issues before too many more customers walk away!!!!
