26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

I am a current employee of vodafone and i would just like to say that we have processes and policeys that we have to follow in store. we can not waive high bills, replace handsets, get you out of you contrcat or anything like that.. im sick of customers coming into stores and abusing us because we unable to help them, its not that we dont want to its becasue we cant get the autorisation, i dont think anyone would appreciate us coming into your place of work and abusing you the way that we get abused... we all start the day with a smile on our face but when we recieve death threats or have things thrown at us we are going to be less inclined to help you... when our system is down again that its not our fault! please take this into consideration before you walk into our stores calling us f*&k heads..
- pissed off employee
14 Nov 2011 04:12:28 PM: I agree, totally. Customers should value your help.
15 Nov 2011 04:54:20 AM: As the point of contact and often the point of sale of a poor telecommunications service you and your team are the shop window of Vodafail.

Users have a choice, they can complain about their issues and try to get them amicably resolved, or make the choice, eventually, to leave that service and proceed to a more responsible provider.

You also have that choice, use it.
18 Nov 2011 10:53:51 AM: Mabye if your call centre actually did something people wouldnt be pissed off .
18 Nov 2011 01:42:06 PM: People who abuse the customer service staff in stores are just being dicks, but when you consider the mess they have had to deal with in regards to vodafone, it's not hard to see why people act like that, not that it excuses it.

Perhaps you should redirect your anger at the customers back towards the company you work for. Is there some way you can provide customers with contact information for people who might actually be able to help them get out of their contracts, etc?

My phone constantly drops out and I struggle to get reception in my own house which is only 10 mins from CBD!!!!

Also, if someone returns a missed call from me it goes to some other person! The last time this happened (three days ago) my friend got talking to the other person and they said they were with Telstra and had only had the number for two weeks but were constantly getting calls for me and getting very pissed off about it!

Thank goodness I only have two weeks left to run on my contract ...

I am with three and was sent the bill from Vodafone. I rang the number on the bill waited 24 minutes and was put through to Vodafone who said no you have to speak with Three. I questioned this and he said I will put you through to a Supervisor and was hung up on. I rang back to speak with him again and apparently no one by this name works there. Amazing. It took over 38 minutes the second time to speak with someone.

In July 2011 Vodafone advised that they are upgrading existing towers as well as building 2 new towers in Ellenbrook and that the completion was due in August 2011. In August that goal was revised and the new date was October 2011. It's November now and there's still no changes, no improvement [my benchmark is the Ellenbrook Shops, in front of the SC the coverage is as bad as in my house].
Called them to discuss the situation and if they can give me more precise answer when the upgrade will finish. The bloke promised to personally call me back the following day. At least I didn't believe him.
10 Nov 2011 08:23:39 AM: I complained directly to TIO and voda rang me back and offering me a early termination of contract with no penalty.
They said , they will send me a pre paid satchel to send my handsets to them and ring them to advice the post ref number and they will organise the cancelation.
BUT..............iti am still waiting for the prepaid satchel to arrive.

We switched to Vodafone and were assured of good coverage in all areas of Perth and surrounds. This simply is not true. Several suburbs have no coverage: for business this is a disaster. As a result of the misinformation I have had to spend an additional $110.00 per month to get additional services elsewhere. So it wasn't a saving at all. I won't talk about the call centres or attempts to fix it. Take it from one who has tried them for two years.. the promises are generally just empty words.

2 Nov 2011 06:41:11 AM: I believe that as the devise has not been delivered then you can go elsewhere, if the devise arrives after you have signed up with another provider simply do not accept/sign for delivery of the devise.

Customers have been in the exact position as you and the above is the action they took.

However some customers have also complained that they have been billed by VF even though they do not have a mobile! Strange ehh??

We have had 7 Vodafail services in PWA in out family. Of the 7 services two have had to churn to Telstra due to moving to the country = no Vodafail coverage generally, my wife works in Lesmurdie = no Vodafail coverage, 1 child lives in Roleystone = no Vodafail coverage, one works in Caversham = no Vodafail coverage, one lives in Maylands pennisular = no Vodafail coverage, mine is the only service that works reasonably. Think this is a pretty poor show of a network performance, needless to say both Optus & Telstra both have 5 bars coverage in all these areas
2 Nov 2011 03:39:37 PM: mate they cant make it work on the east coast what hope do u think u have in the west. i think vf think pitt st sydney is as far as they have to go anything west of the kent st is country & too hard.

After 5 months of faulty handset, no signal, call drop out, not receiving calls and payments not being recongized I finally got vodafone to let me out of my contract . This was after they did a network coverage test on an area I did not live in. Being let out of the contract is only the start of the issue as they insist I return the handset, which is fine but they will only accept it in a post bag they are meant to be sending to me, I have been waiting 8 weeks and have made 2 follow up calls to find out where this bag is and eventually got them to agree to me taking the phone into a store, which I tried to do today only to discover the store had no idea I was coming and won't help me, after I refused to leave the store without the issue being resolved they took my phone and would not provide me with anything in writing the store hopes to receive the post bag by the 11tg of November (making it 9 months that this has dragged out) the store call security on me and had me removed for insisting I get something in writing
29 Oct 2011 11:41:09 PM: In regards to their customer service, I personally helped a customer in their store as I couldn't sit and watch as they ripped off some little old lady, if you're still with vodafail and don't want to spend all you're credit on retrieving voice mail dail1219 and your voice mail will call you for free

Brand new pocket wifi2 is averaging 26kb/s. Reminds me of the year 2001 on dialup!
26 Oct 2011 07:04:05 PM: These pocket wifis actually have a PROFOUND DESIGN FLAW - the antenna is behind the battery which has metallic cover.

Even a school child knows that you don't obstruct the antennas path with metals or conductive materials.

I just get amazed - what kind of a w**ker would make such an design, or what kind of another w**ker would pass it through the quality assurance process.
Have they actually tried using it?

I am 3/Vodafone and I continue to have issues with poor or no reception, phone shuting down and restarting, and not recieving messages till the day after. My phone has very limited reception in my home so I have to go otuside by a tree in the front garden to make a call or send message as this is the only place I seem to get reception. I also have trouble sending mutimedia message as they sit in my outbox for days before they actually send. I was also recently in Townsville for 2 months and was billed for all data use during this period (even thou I have a data packeage that I pay for on my contract). When I spoke with customer service I was advised that it was because I was on roaming...I was still in Austraila and not in a remote area?!? I also tried to explain to them at this time that I was having alot of reception difficulties, and whilst I was doing so I kept dropping out, so they asked if they could call me back on a landline beacuse they couldn't hear me clearly...I made the point that this is why I wanted out of contract but unfortunatley my phone dropped out before I heard their reply!

19726 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Like the Simpsons without Homer. at 20 Oct 2011 02:06:48 AM
I was originally with 3, which was fine for a while, but mother made me switch to Vodafone for some upgrade reasons. So I've been with Vodafail for about half a year now and my first incident occurred with the last bill that I need to pay soon.

I understood why I have the amount owing, but I was not happy with the way they were charging me, and how SLOW their service is. Basically, I posted on their 'Vodafone Community' about how I didn't like receiving a bill I was unaware of, considering I am a loyal customer and text to 1512 everyday just to make sure I'm on track with my usage. They never let me know that my exceeding amount was $78, instead it stayed on 0 the entire time up until the bill arrived. So I asked them if this was a way of milking money off customers? Telling you you're not exceeding and then charging you under the radar. I told them I would've been happy to pay that amount if they did their job or upgraded their service and notify me earlier about how much I was exceeding.

Now the point is, instead of replying to my post and helping me out...I receive a 'private' message saying my post was removed because I wasn't being nice and it didn't flow with the guidelines of the post forum. They also said I should 'treat them like how I want to be treated' - which then ended with a "Thanks for your help in keeping the community a friendly, productive environment for all members."

Really? I'm sorry, but I'm pretty sure that majority of complaints don't end with a friendship bracelet. I wasn't a happy customer, and that was expected. I didn't swear, I wasn't being racist, I didn't do anything to offend anyone. Deleting my post instead of fixing the problem? Nice work, Vodafone! Now you're IGNORING customers. Hooray for poor customer service!

On talk and text prepaid and as I had a lot of credit on my phone thought I would top up with $10 before my expiry date. So loaded the recharge and it told me that I was on a different plan, thought ok a new plan no problem. The it gave me my new balance $10. They had removed my existing credit of $17, when I rang they told me that to get my credit back I had to get another $10 credit as the talk and text minimum recharge was $20.00 What right has Vodafone get to take my money? Isn't it my choice of how much I can afford/want to recharge? Will be changing suppliers once phone release is up.

19687 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is SuperFail bridging the gap for newly arrived folks at 14 Oct 2011 06:59:12 PM
Cant buy the mobile prepaid sim card - described to my feedback to them:

I am a newly minted PR to Perth and i find it incredibly difficult to be your customer. though i find your prices very competitive, i must say that it is infinitely frustrating to sign up for a prepaid mobile broadband service form the online store and/or in-store. today, i was set to get the BYO Modem Prepaid package for $29 and upon keying in my details for credit card it kicks me out every time with the attached error "There seems to be a mistake..." - i've gone through the process countless times with other cards and with my wife's details and it all comes down to this error. I've also called over to the sales at 1300300404 and ive gone through the whole process with "Mark" and the same outcome is expected - FIX IT! the error is not from the customers end.

I decided then to go in-store to get the package. After an arduous process of getting a bank statement, i just got to know my credit is rejected because my current employment status is "unemployed". I've just got here and am finding a job as i've explained to the store sales. (who i must say is not very knowledgeable to the products for online).

Why is Vodafone so prickly and insensitive to the situations i face? there are many people who no doubt will be great vodafone customers if you get down from your high horse and understand im not a freaking terrorist and just a family guy who needs broadband.

However, is anyone else experiencing delays with receiving messages (in particular MMS)?
14 Oct 2011 02:01:01 PM: I live in adelaide, south australia and the last few months my mms messages either never ever go thru or take up to several days. This has gone on for several weeks. When my credit runs out, i am going to change from vodafone prepaid to telstra prepaid, the 60 dollar long life plan where every recharge gives me brand new expiry date- year fren date of recharge

19665 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is structured at 12 Oct 2011 06:06:34 PM
I am not in a mess with Vodafone, I am an individual in the loop. I would just like to inform people who do have some issues that there are little things you can do to improve your service and coverage. When you are provided with a phone and handset sometimes you may be given a less quality sim card. This really does affect the performance. if you have a i phone and have issues for instance nip into the store and ask for a sim swap. Most numbers were given a 56KB sim card and not a 128KB card. This small implementation does help alot. As to why these were not sent out originally I cannot tell you but these little implements will dramatically improve the service.
13 Oct 2011 04:53:26 PM: Shouldn't the call centre be telling people to swap the sim card instead of saying they are "upgrading". the lack of courtesy and professionalism from the call centre is as big an issue as their woefully inadequate network is.it is anything but structured as you describe it.

After putting up with poor coverage, constant dropouts and no coverage at all which has cost me thousands in missed work I was forced to port my number to a different network. I am now being told they want to charge me a cancelation fee as I ported before their cancelation team could call me back to cancel the contract. I was not informed of any early cancelation cost when speaking with customer service. The reason they could not call me back was that I had no service at all unless I went to a different suburb. I will never use vodafail again even after being with them since at least 1998. I will warn anyone about signing up with them as well and my family will also be changing networks.

Once again my new Samsung Galaxy smartphone is reduced to a paperweight. Texts I sent yesterday still haven't reached their recipient today! Right now I cannot get any internet services. Calls drop out constantly, you can tell they are about to when syllables start disappearing from the other party's conversation, or all of a sudden you realise you have been talking to yourself for the last 2 minutes as the call dropped out silently. Call quality is bad, and coverage is woeful. I can stand in the Perth Underground railway station with absolutely no signal whereas all around me other people (obviously not with Vodafone) are chatting merrily away on their phones. Country reception - well there's an oxymoron - there isn't any! Go more than a mile from a major town and that's it - no coverage! Suburban coverage is hit and miss, more often a miss. How does this company stay in business? I have a complaint in with TIO and hope to be out of contract soon and going to another carrier whose initials start with Telstra. Worst - carrier - ever!

Attention: Vodafone Customer Support
Reference: Denial of Mobile Phone Service - Account 6XXXXXXX
To whom it may concern,
I have, for some time now been putting up with poor mobile phone service. We have waited for the well publicised network improvements to no end.
The main problems we have experienced are:

calls continually dropping out between 30 sec and 3 min
having to dial a number of times to get a connection
poor voice quality
denial of internet access in areas as close as 3km from the Perth CBD,
continual denial of voice and data services in the Perth Metropolitan area, particularly in the suburb of Leeming,
very poor network access in rural areas where other network operate acceptably, and
dysfunctional customer service including, failing to call back when lodging an enquiry and inability of operators to answer a basic question.
We believe we have been extremely patient with Vodafone denying us reasonable access to a service for which we are paying. The service is at times so poor that it is affecting our business.
We request that our mobile phone contract be immediately terminated for mobile number 04XX XXX XXX. We look forward to an immediate and prompt response.

SMS are also delayed . I am seriously thinking of changing over from Vodafone...been with them since 1996. Also had problems setting up auto payment after credit card was replaced. Website was down for what seemed like weeks. Other family members on Vodafone experiencing the same issues - get their messages late at night etc and multiple times.
26 Sep 2011 07:40:10 PM: ...how many more reasons do you need to make you leave them. it's like a husband that beats you continuously... yet you keep going back. Give them the flick, and if they won't let you go, drop a line to the TIO here: https://www.tio.com.au/making-a-complaint/submit-a-complaint

19514 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Why bother having Mobile. at 23 Sep 2011 08:14:07 PM
I Can't call out i cant text. Inside my House or outside my house. I sometimes even go up the street for a bit better and it still drops out. No matter where i am i'm scared to be on the phone to long because it could drop out at any time. Theyre customer service is a complete JOKE! i cant call them because ill get put on hold so long it will cut out. so i tryed putting an on-line complaint in. off there website i got an auto response saying i have good reception so i changed the complaint to outline there lack of thought. they then proceeded to e-mail me ( auto response ) the same msg as the previous auto response about 94 percent of Australians have great service.I since have not had a reply but it has not been 2 working days yet which they said it will take. so maybe 2 weeks. i live in a house of 4 people (including myself) and we all have massive problem no matter Where we are. we are all changing providers.

19508 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Lost us at 22 Sep 2011 09:03:51 PM
My wife has canceled our three contracts with vodaphone six months into a 2 year contract. Nice phones but never any signal. We were asked to wait two more months and the signal would improve. We paid no penalties or extra fees to tear up the contract...just had to use the magic word....ombudsman. Am now with Virgin and the phones have never lost a signal since. Great work. We pay a bit more a month but at least we can use what we pay for.

19491 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is On a Scale of 1 - 10, 100! at 21 Sep 2011 07:01:38 PM
How are these clowns in business in Australia, let alone spending big on advertising and sporting sponsorship??? Sh!thouse coverage WA statewide, constant dropping out, not getting SMS/MMS, near zero internet coverage, and the final kick in the groin once I cancelled my contract..

A final bill arrives with a due date of 22 Sept 2011, then a letter of demand dated 16 Sept for that invoice lobs in, threatening to do untold things to my credit rating, and seizure of my assets for $70! And of course, the Indian call centre to deal with again, after arguing for an hour to cancel the contract last month.

If Vodafones Australian offices were to burn to the ground, I'd probably send a tanker of diesel in for the fire fighters to put it out with.

Ironically, one of the anti-spam captcha words is service....

My partner has vodaphone, and I can never call him! I find I have to ring the number 2-3 times, hang up when I get message bank for the call to go through. Every time he's surprised because his phone shows reception. He also gets messages in clumps about 3-4 times a day because not a single one goes straight through.

19473 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Arrogant at 19 Sep 2011 03:57:46 PM
I have been with 3 for a number of years and have always acknowledged that their coverage is not good outside of major cities...........but that is not my complaint. 3 have always been first class on customer service and could be relied upon to assist where possible and advise if there was a problem. I had chosen for my personal mobiles (which included the wife and all the kids as well - 5 services in total) because i had had difficulties with billings in the past with Vodafone and it took me a year to get my name off a "bad credit" listing that they had instigated.

Imagine my dismay when i discovered that 3 was now part of Vodafone. Still, have to give everyone a second chance..............

Now, my eldest son was sent a message regarding upgrading his phone (it comes out of contract in 3 months) and the same week we all received notification that 3 was now part of Vodafone "officially". He decided that it was time he had his own account rather than using mine so we needed to transfer ownership and then he could upgrade to a new phone.

I called 3, explained the situation and they told me no problem but that the new phone would be with Vodafone as they were now all one Company. I asked about the ownership transfer and was told that it should be fine and could be done by phone but would be easier "in-store". Knowing all the ID problems normally associated with transfers I thought, yes in-store would be easier.

We arrived at the recommended store (Innaloo, WA) and noted the big new signs with 3 and Vodafone on them but also noticed a large queue.......but that is normal so we queued for approximately 30 minutes. The somewhat harrasses sales lady finally spoke to us somewhat rudely and we explained what we needed to do. We were then informed that they would not do it in-store because it took too long and because they were a Vodafone store and not a 3 store. No amount of arguing would help and we were told to call 3 and do it on the telephone. We were also informed that Vodafone and 3 are seperate Companies.

After an exchange of words we got the message and went outside the store and called 3. I explained what had happened and was told that the gorl in storw was incorrect but as we were on the phone they would do the transfer there and then. It took about 30 minutes in a noisy shopping centre but we got through it and the changes to ownership were made.

Needless to say, I was still a little upset with the store so i went back in (queued again) and complained to the Manager saying that i wanted to lodge a complaint. She listened then told me that the sales assistant was correct and that they did not have to deal with the issues from 3. Apparently all the stores had complained about having to deal with ownership issues from 3 and that 3 was supposed to be a seperate Company and all changes should be done on the phone. Again, apparently they had been told that a memo had been sent to all phone staff advising them not to direct 3 customers to stores!!!!

I explained that I had spoken to three different operators at 3 over the past week and that they all appeared unaware of it. I was told that it was not her problem and to take it up with 3.

Fortunately we only have 3 months left on the Contracts.............good to see that Vodafone have not changed and are as inept and unhelpful as ever. I am never going to recommend them to anyone, and cancel all services at the end of Contract...........I suggest that all 3 customers do the same thing......Vodafone will muck you around, overcharge you and be down right rude to you if you dare question them.
20 Sep 2011 08:17:48 PM: That's a shocker, if you can't put up with it for another three months then you can probably get out of your contract without having to pay. You'd have to lodge a complaint with the TIO which would take about a week after your initial complaints to Vodafone. Otherwise, all the best with a new carrier in 3 months. Goodluck!

19451 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is VERY UNHELPFUL at 16 Sep 2011 05:07:23 PM
I just attempted to call Vodafone with one objective - to cancel my mobile broadband contract which is past the 24 month period. After being on hold, then requesting to be called, I got a call back 5 minutes later.
After going through a few questions including being interrogated as to why I want to cancel my contract (I no longer need the service), he put me on hold, then told me that the cancellation department was experiencing system difficulties, and told me to call back in 24 hours. How is it possible that such a large sector of a telecommunications company can be 'down' - and down at the exact moment that I need them!! WHAT ARE THE ODDS.

I swear they are TRYING to make their customers hate them - whenever I call, they have some excuse as to why they can't do something simple for me. Last time it was to change my online password, and now to cancel my contract. AM I ASKING TOO MUCH!

I can't wait to be rid of them. They make everything so much harder than it should be.

19363 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is poor signal at 5 Sep 2011 03:37:24 PM
6169 post code Shoalwater WA signal has become increasingly poor over the last few months to the extent that maximum in our house is one bar and about 100 mts down the street you will get two . It has always sometimes been a bit of a problem even before 3G but you could usually find a spot by roaming around somewhere within our household vacinity . Considered getting rid of our landline but glad I didn,t as thats all we can use in our house at the moment however its quite costly when you are paying for an Infinate Vodafone plan and also landline costs . I have an iphone 4 which has always been worse than the rest of our family Nokias but these are now having the same problem so can,t blame the phones . Tried friends iphone 4 in our house with Telstra and she had four bar signal next to my one .Have been a loyal Vodafone customer for twelve years and have no complaints with their customer service staff on the phone and their stores have always been helpful . I have read all the blurp on Vodafone website and seems they are making every effort to fix this and after my complaint have given a 25 % discount off our three accounts for all of us this month so they are trying . Website states they are doing up grades in the Shoalwater area by September and I was just told on their customer care line to wait until end of September as this should fix the problem . I sure hope so as I don,t want to have to go to Telstra it is such a shame that all this is happening . Looks like Telstra is going to end up with a monopoly again then prices will soar with no competition . My husbands plan is up in November so he will have to switch to another network if nothing improves but rest of family are only 9 months into 24 month contracts so will be getting advise as to how we can get out of these if Vodafone don,t manage to fix this

19362 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is getting worse at 5 Sep 2011 02:37:37 PM
Its just been in the last week or two that my service with Vodofpne has become really bad. I live in Baldivis WA and have had my iphone4 for quite a few months now and up until now, have really had no trouble!
It seems to just cut in an out all of the time and the person on the other end describes it as I am sounding like a robot.
Has anyone that use to have decent Vodafone service in this area, having the same trouble as I am?
6 Sep 2011 10:31:36 PM: I live in Baldivis also and have iPhone 4. Have had no trouble at all with Vodafone but find best reception achieved if I turn off 3G. Usually only get one or two bars of reception with 3G on but get full bars with 3G off. Have never had any problems with calls or txts so guessing I am fortunate compared to all the problems others seem to be having with Vodafone. Really bizare how some people have all these issues with Vodafone and others don't. Hopefully the upgrades will fix all this. Good luck.

19344 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Billing at 2 Sep 2011 02:26:16 PM
This is my firs post here however I should have made a move earlier!
Last December I had finally had it with no reception and dropped calls every though I live 2kms from Perth CBD! I was paying $90 a month for a ridiclous plan with a terrible handset and not getting the service I was so loyally paying for.
I called Vodafone and asked them to have my area tested for reception and heard nothing for 5 days. I then called them back and was informed that they could not offer my reception in my area so I could now exit my contract (which has 12 months left) at no charge to me.
My boyfriend was with Vodafone as well and after a second area test and another weeks wait, they came to the same arrangement.
I posted our phones back to these idiots and and they allowed us to port both our numbers to Optus no problems at all.
SIX MONTHS LATER I receive a phone call from NRG GLOBAL SOLUTIONS asking me how I would like to pay my $1000 phone bill for early exit of my account! I cant even believe my ears. Just when I thought they were out of my life they are still trying to suck every dollar out of me. I call Vodafone and they tell me the account is closed and there is no payment owing. I tell this to NRG yet they insist I send them an email outling this so I do.
THREE MONTHS LATER I get a call from them again. I tell them to SPEAK TO VODAFONE. They said they will not and that I need to speak to them and then get a reference number for payment and give it to them.
This is still un resolved and dirving me absolutley insane! I cant believe what a joke this has become - all because I just wanted to get what I was PAYING for!!!!!!
I work in law and legal action seems to be a good option at this stage...
19 Sep 2011 05:58:06 PM: You will not be the first. I had the same things years ago...........then moved and later found out I had been listed as in default! Took me a year to get Vodafone to finally fix it.

Vodafail have on several occasions mentioned to there customers that they have had technical faults relating to there billing sytems eg people not being charged for data that they should have been (I am sure you have all read the email that was circulated by vodafail) and just recently my partner was sent a text by Vodafail informing her due to a technical fault your account was reported as being paid when it wasn't we have rectified the problem please call Vodafail to organise payment. Yet despite all this they will not admit that there could be a problem with people being overcharged for data they did not use. Over the last week I have found out that 4 of my SMS' have failed. (I have failed to receive 1 and 3 haven't reached the other people). - Now I wonder how many others have failed. This is just the start of a tonne of problems I have with Vodafone. What a total joke this company is...
29 Aug 2011 08:07:49 AM: this happens quite frequently with '3' also - you can have 3 or 4 bars of coverage, but SMS's sent fail. The company's a joke, but for as long as most people pay their bills, expect little change. Complain to the T.I.O., it costs Vodafone upwards of $30 each time a complaint is lodged with the T.I.O. and this amount increases once disputes aren't resolved within 10 days to over $200 a complaint.

After having drama's with Vodafail over charging us on excess fees data for the past few months we lodged a complaint with the TIO. It was my understamding that if the account was in dispute with the TIO that Vodafail legally could not apply any account management action. Suprise suprise today my partner went to make a call from her phone amd they have put a barr on her phone. I rang Vodafail and explained to them that it was illegal to put a barr on her phone while the account was in dispute. He told me it is not and the barr will remain and since the account is in dispute he will get someone from the account resolution team to call me on either monday or Tuesday.

I'm getting sick of having to call every month since I resigned due to my bill being incorrect... First it was the fact they had cancelled my insurance, but were still charging me for it.. Then after telling me they wont be charging me for it anymore, THEY STILL DID. And now after asking for 4-5 months, they will only give me a credit for insurance for two of those months!
I'm SO very tempted to cancel my contract and have to pay out the $1000 or whatever it would cost just to be rid of them!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRR
16 Aug 2011 08:19:19 PM: I think as the moderator has suggested a few times, if you follow the TIO path, you'll be able to have your contract cancelled free of charge. - I'll assume as a Vodafone customer you have other issues too. - You just have to lodge a complaint or two and then you'll have legitimate grounds (at that point, Vodafone will more than likely suggest the free cancellation).
17 Aug 2011 12:02:39 PM: The person above is correct. There is no need to pay out a contract for service that you are not receiving. Once you go through the TIO you will receive a call from Vodafone within 10 days and they will discuss your options. If you can, keep a record of all the problems you have had and how many times you have called Vodafone. Then keep insisting that you want to get out of your contract without paying.

It might sound a bit tedious but it's well worth it if the service isn't getting better. Goodluck!

SMS's are continuously going missing. Both incoming and outgoing. Which has been making my life incredibly miserable when I don't think people are talking to me.
DATA is unreliable, when there isn't a major outage, when in the CBD unable to get reliable data connections.
I have problems making and receiving calls on DAILY basis
When I do manage to get through, the voice quality makes it almost unusable. It's gotten to the point where I don't bother using the phone any more. Being unable to communicate is very depressing.

I get $30 text and talk and even though I sometimes run out of free text, I never run out of credit within the 60 days. Its been less than a month, I still have 88 free texts left and yet $20. worth of flexi-credit has just vanished!!! I'm changing to another carrier, I recently lost $149 worth of 3/vodafone mobile broadband credit due to it expiring early. Like everyone else here I also get such bad reception that the wifi I bought is pretty much unusable. I certainly would not be able to watch a youtube clip with it. I also have a vodafone dongle which is almost as slow. Something which ought to take a couple of minutes online takes at least twenty. Pages do not load, website unavailable etc. The girl at the vodafone store told me that she had the same wifi and her reception was crap, too. Of course, nobody at the store told me this the day I bought it, only the next day when I went back. Basically, I bought something that does not work. I am a prepaid customer so do not have the contract problems many people here have. When my credit expires, that's it. So far, considering the problems I've had, my 14 GB data has lasted me seven months, though I imagine I would have used that credit by now and happily paid for more had it worked. I do not use the internet the way I would like to. It's too slow to check emails unless I have a reason to look, facebook is slow and youtube is not a realistic option for me through vodoafone. Any business genuinely interested in keeping its customers should not have its complaints dealt with in another country. Invariably they do not understand my problems, know about the offers etc. Plus, I feel it is inappropriate to complain about poor internet coverage to someone who probably lives in poverty and does not really have anything to do with vodafone beyond reading a script and pointless troubleshooting which cannot improve their coverage. So I will not complain again, as I believe Vodafone in Australia probably do not even receive my questions anyhow. I will merely switch to another internet provider that actually works.

Just spent an hour and a half discussing a mysterious charge on my current Vodafone bill, transferred through the office like a beach ball. When i tried to ask what the charges related to they advised they could not disclose the information due to their privacy act. If i am unaware of what the charges relate to and they cannot tell me how can anything be resolved? When i asked them to be removed was transferred again, but again no help. What is stopping every telephone company adding these charges and when ever there is an enquiry telling the consumer they cannot disclose it due to their own protection? What Bullsh**.

When i signed up to the original contract, it was said i would receive 3 free months, was this info ever sent to where it needed to be, don't think so, spent countless hours trying to fix this and on my 6th attempt with customer care they finally rectified the matter, not just on my account but my girlfriends also.

Handset is also busted after 8 and a half months and was told to go to Vodafone/3 repair shop and would be fixed in an hour, when i got there they told me to go back to the shop where i originally purchased it, did so and when i went back the girl behind the counter couldnt understand as to why i was back again... yet another blunder

Vodashi* in my mind... waiting now on a call back from the TIO after leaving another message, can these guys get anything right?
5 Aug 2011 10:19:10 PM: ask them to quote clause and verse of the Privacy Act and watch them choke....why??? because it doesn't exist....charges on your account after confirmation as account holder Pricay Act doesn't exist....they MUST tell you....

Vodafone pretty poor through out year - keep telling me it's my fault - told them I'm a tech and trapped them on sooo many issues - which seemed to frustrate them immensely - last two months _pityful - the more I phoned in the bigger it got until today when I finally relented and gave an address really close to me [ coz I dont trust them in India anymore] - then it totally failed - supervisor offers new modem/sim free / then says no its the network but refused to answer me if it was all of wa or my area - then said my area poss out coz getting many many calls from my area with bad coverage - seemed Dodgy to me - suspect blocking of sim [ from data received from me today to ?enable? service request to fix - MaB by next friday] Don't believe because I trapped them by using diff modem just up the road. [and mine? - No Network] - and used at my house = other modem OK 3G - mine No Network.mine previous switching between HSDPA/EDGE/3G all the time - but never downloads on 3G - switches to HSDPA immediately - Constant dropouts _ disconnections for hours - voda sez its to fix /upgrade - then seems shaped to between 87 - 400 kbps MaB 800kbps if lucky afta -- pages loading worse than dialup - constant exit/reconnect or reinstall - but only lasts for a short while Have wasted more than 5Hrs on them today 31.7.2011 - Bad Bad Voda - sooo much more to tell - Grrr!!!

I have had enough! Text messages are being received up to 2hours after being sent and i have not been able to send a text or make a call over a 24 hour period. Now over the last week i am getting texts from my colleges and friends saying they can't call me. I have tried getting my friend to call my phone while we were sitting opposite, first time was disconnected, second time got through, and third and fourth time were also disconnected. Now just last night i was chatting to my friend and our call was dropped out god knpws how many times. Now i realise after reading others have the same issues that it is not my handset, IT IS the vodafone network that is letting me down, plus because of this i have possibly missed business calls regarding future work prospects that i have been anticipating over the last month.Icant even connect to the internet. For what i pay to have a full service thi s is just not acceptable.

18985 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is constantly drops out.... at 30 Jul 2011 03:16:07 PM
I am having constant dropouts on my mobile internet connection - using either the pocket wifi or even the dongle. It shows me that I am connected to the internet but I am often unable to open web sites. I am constantly having to re-connect and refresh the web pages as it is constantly dropping out on me. This is every time that I use my connection I have to do the same thing, so if on the computer for 3 hours at night - approximately half that time is spent trying to re-connect or refresh. I have rung several times complaining about this only to have someone try to tell me it is nothing to do with the service but some setting on my computer. Due to the instability of the connection, I am unable to log into my accounts on my own computer, so am having to do all that from work. I have even tried a replacement sim card and there has been no difference. I am unfortunately currently on a contract and as I'm not getting the service that I'm paying for I am wanting to get out of the contract.
I even put complaint about this direct to vodafone and got a response back telling me to get a replacement sim and that complaint was solved..... They obviously didn't actually read the complaint in the first place.
1 Aug 2011 12:50:18 AM: I have this issue as well. I doubt very much that it is computer related, more Vodafone-related. I live in West Perth. When this occurs, I try getting reception with the same modem and try out two different computers. The same issues will haunt me on both computers. And I have tried all possible solutions. Definitely Vodafone's fault here.

Vodafone has such limited coverage. Once out of Perth you are dead. Hills area so patchy it's unusable.

The coverage on Forrest Highway to Bunbury, on the hole is unusable for most of it.

18969 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Not receiving calls, calls dropping out at 29 Jul 2011 02:21:23 PM
I have been with vodafone for around 10years and i have had enough! Text messages are being received up to 2hours after being sent and i have not been able to send a text or make a call over a 36 hour period. Now over the last week i am getting texts from my colleges and friends saying they can't call me. I have tried getting my friend to call my phone while we were sitting opposite, first time was disconnected, second time got through, and third and fourth time were also disconnected. The many promises of upgrading the network and improving the service is a load of crap, it has gotten worse over the last year and i don't intend to be a sucker anymore and hand over my hard earned money to such a bad mobile service. ADIOS VODAFONE! U have now lost a loyal customer.

18968 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is shocking at 29 Jul 2011 01:35:43 PM
due to upgrading local network, when people call me they may get a message telling them "THIS NUMBER HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED." Or they go straight to voicemail. This will last for 3 months!!! It's intermittent and there is nothing vodaphone can do about, they are not even willing to look into this issue for me. They offered 25% discount, without me asking as they know the upgrade is creating issues. But there is nothing on their website stating there may be issues. Area is (North Perth). Whats the point of having a phone when I can have no idea that someone has tried and failed to reach me. What if the call is urgent??? I don't understand why an upgrade needs to affect the current service to this degree. Not happy at all.
29 Jul 2011 01:52:10 PM: North Perth issues: yep often hear -days/weeks later- that friends think i've been cut off or not paid my bill.

Have a CJ Pre Paid wireless broadband account. Was drawn to this by the 365 day expiry. Live in regional rural WA and required the plan for when visiting Perth and/or Geraldton. Interesting that in Geraldton the reception is great. Constant 3G coverage and no drop outs. As for Perth, EPIC FAIL, only 2g/gprs available, slow as and getting slower. I am considering going over to Telstra who also have a 365 day expiry but sadly only offer half the data. Where we camp in Perth is only 150mtrs from a 3 tower and 2km from the Vodaphone tower on Hepburn Ave.

18892 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is huuuge fail at 23 Jul 2011 07:22:14 PM
I've had terrible reception and data coverage since I signed up with Vodafone back in December 2010. I finally had enough so I called to complain and they said I live in an area with bad coverage but that they would be upgrading it in the next quarter. Gee thanks! I had to of course call them on my husband's phone because mine dropped out while I was trying to ring them.

They offered $20 off this month's bill (I usually pay $49 a month) and 25% off the next 3 months. Although I can appreciate the gesture I've just had enough and want something that works.
So I lodged a complaint through their website asking if I can cancel my contract without paying early exit fees. Their automatic reply system must have picked up these words in my complaint because I immediately received a generic automated reply with info on how to cancel my contract - by paying early exit fees!
The status of my complaint was listed as SOLVED.

I don't think so!

I called again and they had absolutely NO record of this written complaint. So I had to explain myself for the 3rd time. I was offered to be transferred to the 3 network because "it seems that it gives better coverage in my area". It seems? I again asked for my contract to be terminated but they wouldn't budge. I told them I would go to the TIO and they said "that's fine, you can do that but we can't cancel your contract".

So I have lodged a complaint with the TIO and keeping all fingers crossed that I can get out of this mess.

I have huge problems with making calls which is what annoys me the most. For about 2 days I couldn't make any calls whatsoever. The phone wouldn't even dial the number. HTC Legend is a nice phone but it's driving me insane not being able to use it properly. Don't even get me started on data and MMS....

29 Jul 2011 10:48:05 AM: I got a call yesterday (funny that my phone didn't even ring because of their cr@p reception, it just went straight to vocemail!).
It was from the vodafail resolutions team who advised me that they will be cancelling my contract and waiving the exit fees woo hoo! of course, they didn't leave a contact phone number so i can call them back. i tried calling the 1300365506 resolutions team number but of course you have to leave a message...i just want confirmation before i port over to optus.

nevertheless - success!

So how can one call centre be so incompetent? Are they not trainer correctly or just lack intelligence? Sick of being constantly transferred to the incorrect department! Then sick of being promised calls back that never happen. Not to mention being put on hold for long periods of time and having the incompetent call centre rep come back with an answer to a question I never asked.

I don't care where the Call Centre is, as long as they know how to do their job

18839 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is massive overcharge at 20 Jul 2011 05:31:27 PM
On 11 July and 12 July 2011 there have been three charges for Internet use from my HTC totalling $675.41 for a total of approx 17 minutes. In one instance the usage details show 930863Kb in 6:16:07 minutes being $413.16 in cost (this is not a typo). The phone is on a $49 cap and has barely ever exceeded this cap in the previous 10 months or so. What is going on?
20 Jul 2011 08:15:40 PM: Sounds like it's time to give Vodafone a ring and find out what is wrong. If they aren't helpful you can go to the TIO and they will help negotiate with Vodafone. But Vodafone is your first point of call.

20 Jul 2011 08:21:46 PM: Check out my usage on 18843, $1200 and I have no phone as they have disconnected me!!! Same unexplainable data usage.I tried Mumbai about as useful as Ti&* on a bull!!!
20 Jul 2011 08:32:33 PM: I spent well over an hour speaking with a "supervisor" and was told the charges would stand. I explained that it was clear looking at the history of charges, that the sudden tenfold increase in internet charges from 8 July that the fault lay with them. I said I'd be contacting the TIO and the police as it is theft and therefore criminal. I heard back from the supervisor about 10 minutes later to say that he had been discussing this with his manager and they will be "raising an investigation into the backend billing section regarding this account but were certainly not guaranteeing or suggesting there will be a credit". This may take 5 to 7 days. They said a note was made to hold any activity re collection of payment for this account (valid for 10 days, but account not due for 12 days anyway) Apparently this can be extended.

I think this could be a very widespread problem as I've since read about changes in how Vodafone are charging internet usage from 8 July. Here's a statement they made http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2011/06/vodafone-glitch-made-bittorrent-voip-data-free/#comment-156142
20 Jul 2011 09:07:31 PM: Ahh yea, hopefully they discover the issue and correct your bill. It does sound like they are having problems with tracking internet usage, especially considering they have come out and said that they weren't actually counting secure/voip/bit torrent data.

Hopefully anyone that has a larger bill than normal will be able to file a complaint and have it adjusted. But it looks like it takes the threat of the TIO for them to actually investigate the problem.

21 Jul 2011 12:04:10 PM: Just reread my entry above ... should read "sudden hundredfold increase" not "tenfold increase". Is anyone else noticing huge increase in charges for internet with their smartphone?
25 Jul 2011 09:18:12 AM: Please update me with outcome as I have exactly the same problem as you. I believe this is a wide spread problem. See posts 18843, 18907,18902, 18903 and many more that I have noted since 8 July 2011.

18760 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Extreme FAIL at 18 Jul 2011 05:46:39 PM
Hi there! I signed up with 3 mobile six weeks ago and experienced nothing but issues from day one. I live in Two Rocks, WA, which is 60km from Perth's CBD so I asked the consultant to please check that I would have coverage in my area. I was assured that there would be no problems! HA! I made countless complaints to 3 who (After 3 weeks!!) came back to me with the solution of switching me to Vodafone. I was told that Vodafone has better coverage and the issues would not continue. I have now been with Vodafone for a week and the exact issues are ongoing; phone calls dropping out, unable to make calls "Call Failed" and constantly get the messages "Searching", "No Service", and "Cannot activate cellular data network". On the rare occasions that the internet does work it takes 3-5 minutes to load a page. To top things off, a new error has begun occurring since moving from 3 to Vodafone. When I text my partner, he often gets a text I sent days or even weeks earlier!! I have made countless complaints to 3/ Vodafone but all they do is check my home address, tell me the network coverage is fine and ask me if i have been through all the troubleshooting!! I told them that I will not be resetting my network settings one more time because although this resolves the issue, it will again return to "No Service" within the next couple of hours. Despite my countless complaints Vodafone still say that I will be forced to pay cancellation fees if I choose to exit my contract?!! How can they hold me to the contract when they are breaching the contract by not providing the service I was promised?? I have just lodged a complaint with TIO and currently waiting for Vodafone to respond.
