Dear visitor,
Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant
contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced
by Vodafone customers.
Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders.
You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.
Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.
More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly.
Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints.
The site will remain online for as long as possible as a
reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.
It has been a privilege to run this initiative
and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In
particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their
continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.
You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.
Until next time,
Adam Brimo

Stranded on the other side of town unable to pay for parking as I am unable to get money out as I am unable to connect to the INTERNET on my VODAFONE iPhone (despite full reception and 3G network!). Internet banking taking 30 MINUTES to load and then timing out. Stranded for two hours without connection in the middle of the city. HOW CAN YOU NOT HAVE INTERNET IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY. 14486 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Intolerable at 24 Jan 2011 05:05:23 PM
I am a 3 customer and over the past few months the wireless broadband speed rates have become a joke. This must be connected with Vodafone in some waym shape or form. I am now out of contract with 3 and they tried to keep me by suggesting I move to Vodafone for improved service...yeah right!! Good bye 3 and hello to Optus for mobile coverage and Internode for wireless broadband.
2 Feb 2011 11:17:12 PM: Completely separate networks so no relation at all to Vodafone
14484 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is the worst phone provider!!! at 24 Jan 2011 04:56:33 PM
I was with vodafone for 5 years and only in the last 6months started experiencing terrible coverage and even worse customer service. after trying to make a complaint several times and having to wait in excess of 1hour to get through to customer service, i changed to optus. the only good thing that vodafone ever did for for was waive the early exit fee that i would have had to pay. thankfully i am no longer a vodafone customer.

I'm in a contract for phone and broadband but have NO internet coverage inside or outsde my place and the only reception I (sometimes) get for my phone is the kitchen window ledge so I have to climb up on the kitchen bench to talk or send messages!
14477 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is breaking the law at 24 Jan 2011 04:40:23 PM
They've caused me so much pain that I'm going seeking criminal charges via the ACCC rather than just compensation via the TIO.
I have referred this matter to the TIO, however they are an alternative dispute resolution agency and I believe there have been criminal breaches of the Trade Practices Act, relating to not being able to provide a service as advertised, and continuing to advertise that service.
1. Calls going straight to voicemail without ringing despite bars being present to indicate signal.
2. Delays in voicemail and SMS messages sometimes by 1/2 day / 1 day despite bars being present.
3. Calls dropping.
4. Calls unable to get through.
5. No signal / dropped signal on a regular basis.
6. Botched connection for overseas and 10 day response means missed calls and service for 10 days.
7. 3G network often not working, replaced by a 'o' or 'E' symbol.
8. Data packets not downloading.
9. No reception in most of my residence, and the parts with better reception aren't strong enough to hold a call, or hear the caller.
10. Entire Western Australian network down for several hours.
All of the technical issues are present regularly between Sydney and Illawarra, in my regular travels to Melbourne and also during travel in throughout Western Australia. They are equally present in metro and regional. These have cost me lost business, lost reputation and most importantly, inability to deal with 2 family emergencies while traveling.
These issues appear to be endemnic and persistent and not isolated. As a result this really needs to be an ACCC flagship case.

14476 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Very! at 24 Jan 2011 04:40:17 PM
End of last year, my sms's were being sent multiple times, 8 or more sometimes, and when I tried to ring the customer service, and speak to a human to rectify my dilemma.. after waiting over an hour from my land line phone, I gave up, and made a complain to the Telecommunications Ombudsman.
After a few days, someone from Vodafone eventually rang me, knowing I had made a complaint to the Ombudsman, and offered me free credit for my pain.. which was nice, until it ran out.
I went to recharge my credit, using the same credit card I had used for the past year, and it said I had no card registered? Ok, so I jumped online tried to register my card.. I entered all the details in, and it came up with some error, and to try calling 1555. So, after waiting over a year last year, I had hoped that they may answer sooner from the mobile on their network.. :( No.. I was on hold for over an hour and a half this time.. The call started at home, I packed up my gear, walked to the bus stop, was on the bus over 50 mins, and eventually lost the signal when the bus went into the underground bus station.. Quietly I think it would not have answered even if I had been there for 3 or 4 hours.. anyways. It kept sporadically telling me.. " Hang in there. We';ll be with you really soon" ... really soon??? Compared to what?
I have been unable to make calls/send text messages from my mobile for over a week and a half. I have no idea what happened to my credit card information, but I know they DID have it prior to November 2010, as I had used it to recharge ever since I'd been with Vodafone, and the card details are fine as I use it daily for my grocery shopping etc.
I have given up on Vodafone and think I'll give Virgin Mobile a go?
Vodafone Customer service 0/10 :( FAIL!

What appears to be deliberate stalling, and passing the buck, hours on hold, no offer of resolution or compensation.
I informed them of their potential breaches of contract, Trade Practices and Privacy Act. They were ill informed, and unable to escalate to anyone with the authority to do anything other than waste my time.
I told them to let me out of their contract because they were in breach of contract by not providing service and they told me that I would be charged if I changed providers without their technical dept getting involved. They promised to have their technical dept call me and they did not do so. I have been unable to get through since.
They have admitted fault, come up with every excuse under the sun, never apologised, offered compensation or even a token remedy.
Refund the full amount of charges since the inception of my contract and enable me to transfer my number to another provider without penalty. I am happy to return the handset upon transferring my number to another provider, provided Voda supplies a pre-paid envelope.
$xxx in wasted time which could have been spent billing clients instead of on hold to Voda.
$xxx in damages for lost business, missed opportunities and trauma caused by not being contactable by my family.

Looks like they've got 10 days to respond under TIO rules. Will be interested to see outcomes.

14469 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Just Plain Sucks... at 24 Jan 2011 04:13:22 PM
Moved to Australia from NZ about 18 months ago - had Vodafone in NZ so stuck with it here. Two basic complaints:
(1) Coverage - For 2 weeks prior to the New Year, my girlfriend & I were campervaning around Gippland. For those 2 weeks for about 98% of the time we had no service. We should have just left the phones at home.
(2) I am on a pay-as-you-go plan and really resent the fact that if I do not use my credit (which I have paid for) by some certain date, the Vodafone just takes the balance. To me, this is like the bank saying if you do not spend everything in your cheque account by X date, the money is ours - how would that go down? Also, I find it really irritating that the way you find out you have no more credit is when you try to txt or make a call. Surely they know when you are getting low and could give you a heads up so you might me able to do something about it. I recently had that happen to me after I got on a tram & was trying to call my girlfriend - if I had been sent a txt that I was low I could of topped up at hundreds of places in central Melbourne. But what can you do on a tram???????

14466 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Unprofessional service at 24 Jan 2011 04:09:46 PM
Changed to Vodafone for a "better deal" from another provider with whom I never had a problem in 6 years. Firstly, I wait almost 3 weeks to receive my new phone in the mail. There are no instructions included in the package regarding the account activation process. I call customer service for help only to be hung up on 3 times. I try to call the mobile number given to me by the girl who offered me the deal ("just call me directly if you have any problems...") but she's on holidays for the next 3 weeks. Perfect. Finally get through and activate the phone except they haven't transferred my old number over and have given me a new one which I had specifically asked them not to do. Rather than attempt to call them, I go to the store. Two staff behind the desk say it's impossible to transfer my old number over when luckily, the young guy stacking the shelves overhears the conversation and says "just type in the number you want transferred and click 'transfer'". I get minimal reception at home with frequent drop-outs (never had this before) and the touch-screen handset is a disaster to use even with my skinny fingers. Lucky last, they've started billing me from the day they posted my phone out so now I'm paying the bill to Vodafone and to my old provider this month. Whatever saving I was going to make this year is gone in the first bill. Stuck in the contract for another 23 months.
24 Jan 2011 04:24:12 PM: Check out the 'How To Complain' link at the top of the page. Escalate your issues to the TIO, and you will no doubt be able to get out of your contract penalty free. Let us know how you get on :)
14465 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is sounding very worrying at 24 Jan 2011 04:09:42 PM
I am a current 3 user and am very worried about the reports that we will be forced over to Vodafone soon.... Considering http://www.three.com.au/cs/ContentServer?c=Page&pagename=Three%2FPage%2FThreeLayout&cid=1236150599184 still says that you don't have to move over but still use 3 services worries me even more.
Vodafone, get your sh!t together before I am finally forced onto your network or I and my partner will drop our dealings with you and move to Optus or Virgin (won't go near Telstra as they are nearly as bad)

24 Jan 2011 04:25:51 PM: I guess that is your choice to make, but FYI, Telstra's NextG network is the best network for performance and coverage in Aus. However Optus' network would be in second place, so you should be fine there as well.

i am stuck in a 24 month contract where i never get any reception at all. i have to travel 20 minutes to get 2 bars of service and even then my calls get dropped and messages don't get sent.
i have paid my bills but they still bar my calls.
they would have known when i signed up for my contract that i wouldnt have any reception where i lived. but instead of letting me know, they have me stuck in a useless contract!
i have a 4 month old baby and today i was 50 minutes from home when i became stuck. i had no way of contacting anyone and had to walk to a service station in 34 degree heat to use a phone.
when i rang today to try get it sorted out i was on hold for 30 minutes and was then hung up on by a woman who i could hardly understand.
RIDICULOUS!!!!

14459 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Epic at 24 Jan 2011 03:02:35 PM
Delays in Voicemail of up to 2 days, disappearing incoming SMS's, an inability to reach Vodafone Call Centre staff - and when on the one occasion, I did make it through, I was called a liar by the supervisor of the Call Centre - which was retracted as soon as I asked to be disconnected (back here in Australia). When reporting my issue via email - I was told that it was because of 3G network congestion, and I should try and find a 3G blackspot so I can failback to the 2G network.
These guys used to be great - but they have grown faster than their ability to manage it. Less money on Advertising and Cricket sponsorship, and more money on providing a reliable network - or release me from this contract...

aside from all the reception issues with calls and 3g i have an issue with my insurance. i had an iphone 3 stolen whilst in new york. 2 weeks after the phone was taken and i was home i went to vodafone and put in my claim and paid my excess and then had to wait 14 weeks to get another phone sent to me. in this time i was guarenteed a new phone "in two weeks". during this time is spent between 1 - 2 hours on hold on 3 seperate occasions. vodafone also kept charging me insurance each month although i had no phone to insure. i had to go and purchase another phone of much lesser quality than an iphone but was still paying $79 cap + insurance per month on a phone i purchased myself. i was very dissapointed in the service and the dissmissive attitude i gotwhen i finally got through.

So it is a big question for customer -- where to go?
Or as a customer we have to live with such poor service.
Sometimes question comes weather we are really living in developed country?

I've been with Vodafone on / off again for a little over 5yrs and have never experienced any problems with them or my handsets!! I previously owned a Nokia N82 (that was with 3)and the phone did it's job. I wanted to upgrade and got sucked into getting an iPhone 4 which is Vodafone.
*Dropped calls
*Unable to talk longer than 2hrs, have to ring back and start again
*Delayed messages - local / international
*I'd say 80% of the time when I send a PXT / MMS it fails on me, have to restart phone and then resend it!!
*Reception goes up and down (Liverpool area)
*I've now lost all photos / videos / voice recordings that have been sent between my girlfriend and I!! What's up with that??? They haven't been deleted off my iPhone!!
Thanks for reading
Have a blessed one... :-)

Whether I am in the middle of our local fully developed town or in the surrounding suburbs Vodafone coverage drops out - usually during a call - no matter if I'm standing still or moving around. This happens in FOUR different post codes!!!!! How much more pathetic can they get? Why do we have to suffer this?? I pay $129 per month for this RUBBISH service? 14436 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Signal strenth and late voicemails at 24 Jan 2011 01:00:48 PM
My Vodafone phone is both a personal and work phone. Over the last year I've had numerous calls drop out plus voicemail message notifications delayed. I have just started a new job which requires me to be out of the office most of the day. It is extremely frustrating when suppliers and collegues are unable to contact me due to a lack of coverage even though I do the majority of my work in Melbourne CBD. Over the last week my mobile phone has been my main source of contact. I have been running an event and my key suppliers have been unable to contact me or their voice and text messages have been coming through at least an hour late. I also used to have Vodafone internet however I left them at the end of my contract due to a lack of reception. I was never able to download music, movies or even photos on Facebook. I also could never use Skype to talk to friends and family overseas. I'm now looking to break my contract and find another supplier however I'm concerned that Vodafone will charge me even though they haven't met their carrier obligations.

14434 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is has terrible customer service at 24 Jan 2011 12:57:49 PM
I used to use vodafone for the local customer services who were fantastic.
I just called to ask why i'm getting repeated "Network Busy" Messages and was told
a) Restart My Handset
b) Someone who is trying to call me at the same time so it shows Network busy.
c) It might be because the network is full.
a & b are very miss leading.
I'm now connecting to sales to find out what I can do to get out of my PLAN this service sucks and I just got a bill for a few hundred bucks.
Vodaphone had me for life, and lost me when care was outsourced. and lately with network performance.
I'll never recommend vodafone again, and will get my family off the network asap.

The sales team just told me my Network issues are due to the flooding in Queensland.
I'm not going to bother with vodafone i'm just going to find an alternative i'm tired of it.
I don't mind paying for good service. Anyone know telstra's care team is offshore too?

14432 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is How to Terminate at 24 Jan 2011 12:20:21 PM
I was able to terminate my contract due to poor 3G coverage at my home and workplace. I had an Iphone 3GS which relied on 3G coverage to fucntion correctly. Further to this when I was in range the 3G performance did not conform to the standard definition of what a 3G service should represent. You must specifically inform VFone that THEY are in breach of contract and that they have not been ablke to rectify the problem and subsequently you want the service terminated. They will send you a bag to return your handset. Insist on speaking to a supervisor the moment you have been answered. Your other option is to call the business support line (Aust based) and ask to be connected to priority care.. Hope this helps.. Remember Vodafone must perform thier side of the contract just as much as you must perform your side.. If you dont pay they cut you off, so how is it different if they dont perform you cut them off!
GOOD LUCK...
GOOD LUCK...

14426 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Vodafone is a complete FAIL. at 24 Jan 2011 11:35:53 AM
I knew years ago from experience with a 12 month contract with Vodafone; so unfortunately I learnt first hand / the hard way at how terrible their coverage was. Not just that, the terms in the contract were rediculous... ie. off peak / on peak, so called "special rates" & their classic vodafone to vodafone calls where it doesn't cost much ... anyway, the only reason I signed up was due to their coverage claim, in that it appeared to be better then Telstras!!?? Remember that TV advertisement with Kramer in it... yeah, well say no more...
anyway, that was a few years ago, & ever since I have not been back or recommended them to anybody... there is no real need to "bag" them so to speak, as all one needs to do is give people the facts, that their coverage is pathetic.
what has got me staggered however, is that
why people keep whinging & complaining & signing
up with them is a joke ...
everyone by now should know how bad they really are...
if you don't then you've been living on a desert island or under a rock.
Stop signing up with them people...!
When will you learn...
...or, go ahead, sign up with them, & then shoot yourself in the foot ... :-)

14423 Someone from NT thinks vodafone is No signal and data download speed at 24 Jan 2011 11:20:28 AM
From Darwin,NT and I have been paying $69.00 every month from Aug/2009 in a 2 year lock-in contract with 400$ calls and 1 GB data.I have not been using the 50% of my limit just because in Darwin, Vodafone coverage is limited to the city area and even in CBD where I work, it is available in the window side of the buildings. In my home, I get coverage only in one room in the suburb of Leanyer.Need a way to get out of this crap and only Telstra works a little decetly in Northern Terriroty.

14421 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is at 24 Jan 2011 11:12:31 AM
Consistent drop outs are my biggest issue and finding difficulty to get coverage most of the time. I contacted Vodafone this morning and waited on hold for only 1 min before i was connected to a staff member in Mumbai. He was friendly, sympathetic, and very helpful. He has organised for my enquiry to be escalated which i know is what most say and never get results, but we will see, he said a report will be filed and i will be contacted once complete which he said should take no longer than 5 days. He credited $75 to my account for the inconvenience of the poor service over the past couple of months which doesn't sound like much, but i was honestly expecting nothing. We discussed the option of me being able to withdraw my contract if the issues with the network aren't resolved in 2 months which is when he advised it should be back to working properly. The report that will be completed will assist me in gaining the desired result, is how he worded it so will wait and see what happens from here. Just wanted to let you know my story as i am a very frustrated customer aswell but feel a little better after having spoken to them.

14419 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is total failure at 24 Jan 2011 11:04:02 AM
I currently have 6 months left of my contract with 3 Mobile and my handset broke. As 3 Mobile and Vodafone have merged I thought I would pay out my 3 Mobile contract and get a Vodafone plan as it would be cost effective for me. I went to a Vodafone store and was advised that I could simply migrate my 3 Mobile plan over to Vodafone and retain my current phone number. That was 2 days ago and despite being told by the Vodafone store that I would be connected to the Vodafone network within a "couple of hours", I have returned back to the Vodafone store, made several phone calls and still am not connected. Not a good start at all. After researching the many complaints about Vodafone online I have made my mind up. I am returning to the Vodafone store and cancelling everything with them. What a complete shambles. I have had mobile phones with many carriers and have never experienced this before.

14414 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is causing the worst mobile phone experience Ive had in 15 years at 24 Jan 2011 10:46:22 AM
In 15 years of owning mobile phones I have NEVER experienced such ridiculous reception problems and incompetent service. I have to stand in one corner of my workshop to get 2 bars of reception while I talk on my MOBILE phone. Go outside.. and guess what no reception. Vodafone you should convert your business to a circus from whatever it is now.
I wonder how Vodafone would like it if their current customers made their way into their stores and discussed the problems and stress Vodafone is causing in their lives while still billing us.
I wonder how Vodafone would like it if their current customers made their way into their stores and discussed the problems and stress Vodafone is causing in their lives while still billing us.
24 Jan 2011 11:07:41 AM: For all those people complaining about reception here's what id suggest.
1. attempt to get out of your contract and go somewhere better
2. If getting out of you contract is impossible demand a phone that supports the 850MHz Band. Vodafone have launched a new network in the major cities basically to fill the holes but it only works on handsets supporting 850MHz. This would probably fix a handful of peoples issues with reception who live in the major cities. devices such as the IPhone and Nokia N8 support all bands used by Vodafone (UMTS 850/900/2100 and GSM900)
Hopefully this helps some people who are going out of their brain.

Just a note to state that my company has stopped all negations with Vodaphone as there network coverage has became a business risk. The IT department would not stick their necks out with the class action and your web site pointing out issues.
We have 40 mobiles in the business, its not going to kill them but an interesting aside to what effect this web site is doing to the market.

24 Jan 2011 10:46:58 AM: If someone told you that 3 and Vodafone use the same network you should fully complain. Vodafone's coverage is unchanged since the merger (i.e. still uses the Joint Venture 2100 network in the Citys and thier own "Nationwide" network as well as thier own GSM network). 3 on the other hand have the option of using thier own 3G network, the Vodafone GSM network, Telstra GSM network, Telstra Next G network. (Obviously it depends on the handset if it can access all these networks) So this would explain why you are getting better coverage with 3. Such a shame the 3 network is shutting down and Vodafail are forcing everyone across to Voda.

No reception in daylesford (ever), despite being told by Vodafail that it would work there. No reception in my house in Preston. This is a joke and I have 14 months left on my bloody contract. Over the holiday period I had to set my Mobile Broadband to GPRS just to get some dial up speed connectivity. Now it's back on 3G but drops out regularly and is very slow.

I spent 2 hours last week turning my phone off and on again in order to make a phone call....it eventually connected.
Whenever I am at my boyfriends house I don't have any form of reception yet everyone else in the house does as they are with different carriers.
This is pathetic. I pay $80 a month for no service.

I would go to vodafone, but I'm worried that the reception would go up again, and like my wifi issue they'll probably just say they can't do anything because it's working "now"
What should I do?

I have been with Vodafone for about 10 years. It has worked really well until Christmas 2011.
Following Christmas reception has been appalling both at home and at work. Repeated dropped calls, delayed texts, numerous missed incoming calls.
I called customer service on 1555 and went through to the coverage problems section. Went through a few diagnostics. The reception problem was escalated to the network technicians - I should hear back in about a week. I am now using 2G (not 3G) to work around the problem.
I am not happy with the reception problems but the customer service I experienced was ok.

14379 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Maps Are Wrong! at 24 Jan 2011 07:26:31 AM
Vodafone's coverage is not as advertised. Don't believe their coverage maps. If you have an Android phone on Vodafone, please download and use Sensorly to contribute to the real maps, which you can see here:
http://www.sensorly.com/Map/GSM/Australia/Vodafone/gsm-50503
http://www.sensorly.com/Map/GSM/Australia/Vodafone/gsm-50503
24 Jan 2011 08:03:19 AM: Just a reminder that Vodafail is also collecting coverage and indeed users can interrogate Vodafail's mapping service, check out the Your Coverage tab at the top of the page.
25 Jan 2011 12:41:20 PM: Seems fraudulent to me. I think "deceptive and misleading" informaton or advertisng is something the ACCC would be very interested in, if it was doing it's tax-payer funded job.
1 Feb 2011 07:30:32 AM: Sorry but Vodafail's coverage map is subjective, based on individual perceptions, and will be biased (how many people are going to select 0% coverage just because they're annoyed?). I think it would be much better for Vodafail to promote an unbiased mapping application such as Sensorly or similar that will record coverage in all areas, good or bad.
14378 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Unbelievable at 24 Jan 2011 07:23:37 AM
Missed calls on mobile, sometimes SMS's delivered days after they have been sent & poor or no reception on wireless broadband. LARA is a real pain!!! Often takes 20-30 mins to talk to a real person. Staff are poorly trained & often tell me things that simply aren't true, which is really annoying & when one person can't answer a question often transfer call several times resulting in no resolution because no one knows the answer but won't admit it!

I am a '3 Broadband' customer living in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. The last week or so, I have been unable to get reception to connect to the internet. When I called them, I was advised that 'the QLD floods caused it'. Yet, when I advised them that a work colleague who lived up the road, the phone operator simply hung up. That solves that problem hey!
14368 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is EXTREMELY at 24 Jan 2011 03:15:42 AM
I went on a vodafone $79 a month plan and recieved a Nokia N97 handset which the vodafone customer service rep highly recommended. My reception was either non existent or extremely low which was strange considering I was living in Bardon, 5kms from the CBD of Brisbane. Also the handset was appauling in function and frequently lagged or dropped out. My workplace has issued me with a HTC desire HD handset with Telstra. The reception is flawless, data is much faster and the handset is fantastic. Only problem is Im still stuck on a plan with Vodafone for another year. Wondering if I can join the class action still or not????

I have been very unhappy with the service vodafone provide - data dropping out in particular. Only of late (last few months) has my 3G sevice dropped out within surburban Melbourne (less than 8 km from CBD) on a regular basis.
Whilst in Hobart for Christmas, I had several occasions that ALL DAY I could not use my phone at all as it had NO RECEPTION. The irony being I was even across the road from the Vodafone store while this happened. Really not good enough.
Luckily, my 24 month plan ended on 22 jan. I rang up today to lower my plan to its original amount and confirm I was on a month-by-month deal now. (I was advised by store staff that I could not do this in store, but had to ring) Rather than being lowered from the $49 cap to $29 cap, after over an hour on the phone I had been placed on a 24 month contract of $49 a month. I could not understand the operator, who had a very thick accent and breathed very heavily into the call, and it seemed he could not understand me. Luckily staff were able to assist me in store after several phone calls and faxing my contact. I was then placed on a $29 cap for month by month. I never agreed to signing a contract, as never told I was verbally entering a contract at any point.
I have changed provider today.

My reception would keep on dropping and as I run a business, it makes it difficult to get in contact with suppliers. When i call up Vodafone, i speak to Lara, which is hopeless and then am put on hold for several hours. Sometimes it even gets cut off and other times i decide to hang up instead of wasting my time. Eventually i found a forum online (not Vodafone website) that assisted me in my problem. I was very disappointed in Vodafone's service and hope it improves.

I recently moved to Bathurst from Tamworth and i have to say that for a town of that size, reception is crap (customer service isn't much better)! Even tho it says i have full 3g, do u think i can load a webpage? Yet back in Tamworth yesterday, web pages load without a hitch! I asked the staff in the store @ bathurst why i couldn't get webpages to work and they looked at me like i'm an idiot. Hmmm, lets try a test then. In Bathurst, pages don't load. In Tamworth and Dubbo, they load fine. In all cases it showed full 3G. If i have to put up with this for the next few years, i'm going back to telstra!
23 Jan 2011 07:16:13 PM: Check out the 'How To Complain' link at the top of the page, Just escalate your issue to the TIO.
23 Jan 2011 07:17:29 PM: i hear u. its sad tho that store staff obviously don't have a clue about network issues - they're probably as much in the dark as the rest of us, but still, the whole "you'll have to call customer service" schtick is getting quite old.
23 Jan 2011 07:20:41 PM: Thanks to 09:16:13pm - i think i'll just pay out my contract and swap to telstra - not even worth going to the TIO. I'm really annoyed that i can't load webpages here! my flatmate has the exact same phone (iPhone) as me and is with Optus and he has no issues here at all. oh well, that's life i suppose!
23 Jan 2011 07:22:50 PM: TIO would save you paying out your contract, but the choice is yours. Best of luck :)
23 Jan 2011 07:44:24 PM: i have a similar problem - VF staff told me to reboot my phone whenever it happens. yeah right, i'd constantly be rebooting my phone! the only time i can load a web page is if i'm lucky enough to connect to HSPDA
23 Jan 2011 07:45:43 PM: sorry neglected to mention i'm in penrith, so larger area than bathurst
14351 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Very poor network engineering at 23 Jan 2011 06:50:22 PM
I have lived here in far northern Sydney for 12 years. 12 years ago, I signed up with Vodafone and my service worked well in all parts of the house (for sveral years). I moved across to Telstra many years ago but my wife is still with Voda. Her phone only works upstairs. Vodafone's coverage has gone *backwards* in 12 years. Vodafone are not "failing gracefully" from 3G to 2G. Thats a serious engineering problem which needs to be fixed (I should know).

I have been with Vodafone for about 5 years now.
I never really noticed the Coverage issues because I never used data on my phone. But now that I have a brand new N8 which I got from Vodafone at the start of November, I have used to internet on it ALOT. Several times a day at least.
I barely ever get decent 3G reception. When I'm sitting in my bedroom on my phone about 70% of my bedroom gets 0% reception. The places that do get reception seem to be very random.
I would like to believe it is my phone, but it isn't. It is the Vodafone network.
Thank you.
Regards,
Paul Smith.

I have experienced numerous occasions where I am in a high coverage area and the phone call I am on cuts out and I have cut the other person off on the other end. Then it suddenly has no signal at all then later on after turning off my phoneand back on in case it isn't the signal. But no it still doesn't come back until about half an hour later.
It is frustrating!!!
Previously also I have had a few weeks where I have sent texts messages and the receiver receives the same trext numerous times off count so far was 7 of the same text.

I am currently with vodaphone and up until Vodaphone merged with 3 I never had an issue with them, service was good and I had no problems. In recent months I have had numerous service dropouts and recently I have had my family and friends telling me that calls they make to me are going direct to "this service has been disconnected" not even to voicemail. At the same time my Fiance had issues using her iPad on a Vodaphone prepaid simm in the Adelaide CBD, that's ridiculous, towers everywhere and no signal and I have issues in Kidman park not even 15 mins from the CBD and issues in Woodcroft where I live. A month ago my fiance put in a techincal issue report to Vodaphone and a month later.... NOTHING BACK TO US, so now at this very moment I have been trying to get onto vodaphone to organize a way to keep my number but cancel my contract with no exit fees or crap like that for the hassle the put me thought and what do I get, a guy who has no clue and decided to put me thought to the cancellation which comes up with a message saying, sorry this department is closed and hangs up on me. called back and once more waiting and waiting to make a complain about that and to try once more to organize a way to keep my number on a new network but no fees and I gave up after a half and hour because I have a life outside my phone, but I will keep trying. GOD DAMN ASSHOLES
23 Jan 2011 05:35:05 PM: Lodge a complaint with the tio online, takes three minutes, someone from vodacrap will call you, helps if you make some notes of dates and times of their cock ups, demand nothing less than release from contract, even ask for a part refund for what you have paid, surely they will release you from contract, it worked for me, dont know what optus is like these days, but I went to telstra and it is 21st century sort of stuff, I now actually get what I pay for, I am stoked! Good luck
24 Jan 2011 03:02:35 PM: I do want out of my contract but the thing is, I still want my number, need to deal with Vodafail, to get them to hold off the cancelation until I move to Telstra (Only One I can trust now, I moved from Soul to Vodafail), I have been semi lucky at times, but I am constantly having to turn off and on my phone to get reception, drop outs alot but still have semi good use of SMS.

My reception, as we all expect is poor. However, I recently signed up and recieved a Samsung Galaxy S from the voda store in Greensborough VIC.
My phone was faulty, had a massive buzz noise coming from the ear speaker when making calls, to which the "manager" explained that all phones are different and it's normal. She spoke to me in very broken english and was very direct, leading me to believe that communication was going to be very challenging. Her and her junior employee decided that there was no problem, although 5 minutes prior to the descision the junior college admitted he could here "something" .. as soon as his manager said it was fine, he backed down and remained quiet.
I left the store only to return later with a Galaxy s to compare it to and it's owner for proof, she (the manager) could still not hear anything and the phone was "perfect" this time, the junior staff mbr listened and said it was fine. I had noted that her stong chinese accent had dissipated quite alot this time around, and her communication skills were much more adequete and easier to understand.
I had to request that other staff members test the phone, to which she asked 2 others to test, they did so and blantently said they could hear it was buzzing and not as it should be.
The phone was replaced, but I have found out it was a refurbished model.
Not happy, it should not take 2 attempts at the store, 1.5 hours of standing my ground with vodafone staff that are not qualified to tell me that I am wrong and the phone is perfect. Lesson is do not let them play you, be determined and fight... unfortunately you have to with these guys. It's like getting blood from a stone.

A buzz in the earphone is a faulty screen, usually when the backlight is on. Thats a phone fault.

Have posted previously on reception and drop out problems. New problem is that I tried online at the Vodafone sign to have the fone unlocked (the fone is Nokia bought from Vodafone a couple of years ago) As requested I typed in the fone serial number and the site told me there was no record of it. Went into a Vodafone store and they said they could not unlock it either as their system does not have a code for that phone to initate an unlock procedure. All this despite the fact that I bought the phone from them and they offer an unlocking system for their fones. The person behind the counter was reduced to searching with google online to see if he could figure it out that way! He said he has put in a request to sort out the problem and that I might here back in 10 days with an unlocking code. By then I will be overseas. It will be interesting to see if I get the code via sms overseas with Vodafone's global roaming. Last time I travelled with their global roaming it did not work after Singapore!

It is rare for me to ever have full reception, even when in the CDB of Sydney. I've been a Vodafone customer since 2001. From 2001 - 2004 I lived in rural NSW and had substantially better reception then and there than I do now. It has gotten to the point where I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to use my phone when I most need it. I recently even had to resort to using a pay phone at Sydney Airport on a Friday at 5pm as I had no reception.

14317 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Coverage in Rockhampton at 23 Jan 2011 02:33:01 PM
Oh yes Vodafone, so you are sorting things out directly with your customers, try going back over your emails to see how many customers have asked for anybody from vodafone to do just that, and recived no response or got fobbed off.
I have phoned and emaild for months try may, june, july, august, september, october november, then give up, some emails just beg for someone to ring me back, you know my number ( but it doesn't work, so email me I will give you a land line to ring.
I have had to work in Central Queensland for the past few months, and I have no idea how Vodafone is allowed to market phones or Broadband in the Rockhampton area.
I cannot count on my phone working when I need it and my broadband would be best described as not working at all.
But get on the Vodafone website and it Shows the whole area of rockhampton as being a good coverage area. Ask the locals and they tell you that they have a lot of contractors from Brisbane and Sydney come up to work and all complain that they can't get coverage. Why are they able to sell the product as claiming it works.
I am talking about no coverage at the major shopping centre on the north side of rocky, no coverage at Frenchville, no coverage at Central Queensland University or Capricornia College, except for a few minutes here or ther in certain spots you might walk into and message bank fires up to deliver the messages for the day or two, but don't think you can ring the message bank or person back, only if you are very lucky will you get more than a minute or two.
On top of that they double billed me for my old broadband and my new one from march last year to about October, eventually responded to one of my many emails and phone calls, to say they may have stuffed up and would refund me some money, have had no response since (months), they seem to be making adjustments in my account. But despite many requests by email and attempts by phone have not been able to discuss with a real person who sounds half interested.
Have also lodged complaint with ombudsman, spoke to ACCC and Fairtrade, all seem to be unable to do anything much

Have also lodged complaint with ombudsman, spoke to ACCC and Fairtrade, all seem to be unable to do anything much

i've been overcharged (i pay a $79 cap, was charged $150 for absolutely no reason), i wasn't notified when they decided to switch billing info from hard copies to email, i rarely get coverage unless i'm in the most inconvenient place, and quite frankly, if i ever encounter Lara, imma punch her in the face.

28 Jan 2011 09:00:28 AM: When I switched to web billing when I had a choice, they only transferred my monthly payments, not ones for excess usage etc. Ten emails, 4 visits to stores, phone calls total waste of time, money and energy. Then they made web billing compulsory and screwed me over usage, news their cloud server hacked, their incredibly bad security practices and a DNS server that hasn't worked for MONTHS not minutes. Lara with her pseudofriendly voice and totally fu...d 'Customer Service' . TIO fixed it pretty quickly.

I am not an angry customer here but I was at a Vodafone shop yesterday to test to see what I was reading was correct. I tried a phone in the shop and went onto the internet on it. It had full bars and on the 3G network. I noticed that the internet was extremly slow and kept coming up with an error messege. I would never buy from vodafone anyway. They really are vodafail if there shop was also showing signs of crappy service.
23 Jan 2011 03:15:49 PM: Agree, with my local Vodafone shop the signal is very good but as you walk away...........presto............it gradually gets worse until......nothing!!!
Like you said, a crappy service.

I just want to share my experience of Vodafone in Auckland, NZ.
For two years (2007-2008) I found as a Half Moon Bay resident, paying on an annual plan, reception had continual dropouts on account of transmitter clashes according to two of their technicians. Receipt could be coming from Glendowie, St Johns, Highland Park and other points of the compass.
Now back in the area in 2010, on a prepay I find that:
1) I get through to Vodafone to be able to select the options for adding funds without problem, but although the 12 digit prepay numbers are dialled correctly, they do not necessarily get heard correctly. Today (23.1.11) on entering the correct number for a new prepay voucher, although this number was only entered once, Vodafone automatic voice advised me that I had exceeded my attempts (only one) to enter the voucher number.
2) Yesterday, although a V8 card enabled me to dial an Australian Vodafone mobile number correctly twice, on the third attempt, I was informed by the automatic message system, that calls to that network number were not permitted!
3) Worse, on 29 November, I was speaking to a landline source a few minutes before midday. Yet a critical text message, lack of receipt of which has potentially affected my longevity, sent at 12.01 by the same source, did not arrive until two hours later! Thanks, Vodafone!

Originally lived in brisbane, joined vodafone 5years ago. No reception issues however furthest I ever went was sunshine/gold coasts.
Moved to Wagga Wagga for work for 24months where reception was rather pathetic unless I was in the town centre. Since moving back to my wife, in the ACT (12months ago) had similar problems of dropouts, no connections, delayed sms and overall rudeness from the call centre when I queried them about a bill issue.
For these issues to be in the aust capital city..... rather amusing i thought.
However chose to continue using but drop my cap from $99 to a lower one. Spoke to a hard to understand however extremely polite call centre girl. She informed me it was policy that you had to exit the contract, costing around $800 and they would be happy to start me on a new 24month contract. After 'enquiring' with her supervisor, this fee would not be waved for any reason. This was explained to me when i signed the contract....apparently.... i wouldnt have signed if they told me this policy.
All this after my wifes carrier (optus) charged her an admin fee of $33.95 and gladly changed it down with NO extension to time in contract. They did this INSTORE aswell.
Subsequentally I laughed it off, cancelled my contract and am now an optus customer.... Only fault there was choosing the samsung 'tradie phone'.... more fragile than a house of cards but anyway.

23 Jan 2011 09:51:30 AM: PART 2. Didnt cancel my contract on the spot, chose to think about it first.
to cancel my contract I went into vodafone Belconnen, young sales rep sat me down and asked why, told him and he was more than happy to cancel it for me.
Something was wrong with his system and he couldnt do it online, had to ring customer care..... yippee.... Got a rude man that either couldnt comprehend english or wasnt interested in anything other than SALE SALE SALE!!!. REFUSED to acknowledge my cancellation request, issues, resolutions. Further continual offers of different caps for me to sign onto. after 15mins of keeping my cool, I became quite angry and due to what i said, I cited what my griefs were very abruptly and in hindsight quite rudely. I probably cost vodafone the 6 or so customers looking at signing up. LUCKY FOR THEM.
The sales rep took the phone off me after realising we were just going around in circles and he instructed him to cancel my cap immediatelly, after 5-10mins of arguing with him my cap was finally cancelled, alot of apologies came from him, it wasnt his fault though. I do rate the service of the sales rep and the original call centre ladie, however their hands were tied to solve my issue so their employer hindered their customer service ability.... I learnt from my mistakes, no amount of 'research and investment' vodafone make will get me to return.
p.s sorry for the novel.

Vodafone network was good this year but over December Xmas 2010 it was and still is atrocious.
I have experienced (and when I say "I" I mean my corporate group plan which consists of 4users who have experienced the exact same issues), call failures, call drop outs, and slow voicemail or no voicemail.
I use my mobile for business 90% of the time so it is vital for me, I a, a builder and I need it to order materials contact trades and organize jobs. Without this my business suffers and I have to constantly ring people back as the calls have been failing.
In summation I am thinking of changing carrier, and joining the class action against vodafone.
If everyone with the same problems joins then we can make a change..

Bought my mobile broadband stick in Brisbane and the Dick Smith guy asked if I was planning to be in any remote areas, because he said Vodafone coverage was limited out of main centres. Well here I am in Sydney CBD (Pitt St World Square) and for the past four days have really only been able to connect in off-peak times. Since when was Sydney CBD going bush ... only when you're with Vodafail apparently.

I have an iPhone 3G with Vodafone. They can't work out why I can't send emails from my mobile when I'm not at home using WiFi.
Calls drop our regularly.
Often calls go straight to wife's message bank for no apparent reason (also 3G iPhone with Vodafone), and vice versa, but does not show there is a message in message bank.
Text messages slow to arrive, especially MMS.
General coverage is terrible.
All of the above is very frustrating as we have a toddler and another baby on the way. If anything was to happen, it might be too late before I'm aware of anything.

i live in an area where i have almost full reception on my i phone 3 and constantly experience drop outs, even trying to talk to technical support was useless because my phone would drop out when i was on hold. when calling from another phone on my many attempts to talk to technical support i was put on hold on average an hour and a half. one time i was on hold for 3/4 hour to techincal support and after the phone dying from the battery running out i called back to find out that i had been on hold after the support team had gone home.... i am now waiting to hear if i have a chance of getting out of my contract without any cost.

Check this out and before you write me off as crazy I mean really check it out... maybe this explains where Vodaphone and 3 are coming from and why they realy dont care about this mess they are in. Vodaphone is the worlds largest carrier and as far as they are concerned they are laughing all the way to the bank. Any press is good press. I read in the Herald Sun recently about vodafail and the class action and 2 pages later Vodaphone has a full page advertising article promoting their new plans. Surely they must be in breach of some law (trades practises act perhaps???) that says if you cant service the customers you have now then you shouldnt be allowed bring any new customers on. Its kinda like selling a car with a faulty part and instead of recalling it and fixing the problem you just keep on sellin more cars... crazy!
As I said before Vodaphone is the worlds largest mobile carrier. Three mobile was (maybe still is the 2nd largest)
After researching some more obscure aspects of these 2 companies it seems they may have been in bed together since the start (of 3 anyway).
The following website shows the motivations and inspirations behind some of the worlds largest corporations logos. Copy this link into your web browser and see for yourself and decide
http://pakalert.wordpress.com/2009/06/20/top-5-most-sinister-corporate-logos/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_jOGAwpmCs - Vodaphone logo mystery
and if that wasnt strange enough it seems like the 3 merger must have been done when they began...
check out the 3 logo here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cb87bpnoQww&feature=related
(FYI there is a 3 network and Vodphone network in Italy)
You decide what is going on. When I was a kid back in the early 80's the priest used to say at church that in the future we would all bear the mark of the beast 666. Seems like he was right seeing as I now carry it around everywhere I go with every step I take being recorded and tracked.

I will be honest, It use to be pretty good for me. I have been with them for 12 years.
Now, the reception is poor in multiple different handsets, txts can take an extended time to be received by a recipient, 1555 Customer service has shockingly bad waiting times.
Recently I called to find out when my contract ends, which was Feb (one month away). I told them I will likely lower my contract at the end of the month, not really interested in another handset or go as far as canceling and porting my number to a new carrier. The customer service operator didn't even talk about it or offer anything to me or suggest talking to sales, just said "is that all you wanted to know?".
In my opinion they obviously don't want my business anymore or at least provide a deal to longer term customers or attempt to pursue me to stay.

14225 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Pretty bad at 22 Jan 2011 10:25:52 PM
I signed up on a 24 month contract with Vodafone in late 2009, assured that they provided complete coverage to 15 km out of my WA town. We live right near the centre of town, so until June 2010, while I was on maternity leave and sticking pretty close to home, all was okay. Then I went back to work part-time as a visiting teacher. Only one of the six schools I regularly visit has adequate coverage. My boss can't reach me when I'm at the other five. She's frustrated and so am I; I can't make or take calls from my base, 2 km from the CBD, either.
I'm originally from Brisbane and happened to be on a family holiday there until last week. During the floods crisis, I was staying with my sister, caring for her two and my three children and trying to help her move all her furniture upstairs. My husband had taken a short break with his very unwell mum and was frantically trying to reach us, as was my mum and our other sister, seeking updates and offering support. On Tuesday 11th of January, I had mobile phone reception only about 20% of the time for SMS and telephone calls. My sisters, with Optus and Telstra, and my husband, with Optus, had no disruptions to coverage at all. This made an already stressful situation more difficult. The limited coverage for my phone continued over the following four days. I've had enough, I want out.

I was a customer of Vodafone continuously for over 18 years , at first when the network was 100% Ericsson it was clearly the best network, it work everywhere i went and worked well. Since they started installing non Ericsson equipment in the last 5 to 7 years the quality fell, due to giving contracts to the lowest bidder. having spent most of my life in communications it is well known that there is some equipment out there that just does not communicate with others on a signalling level and therein lies the problem, you have to introduce interface equipmet that translates signals, introducing delays. The last three or four years the network became so hopeless and my bills grew so big that i had prepaid accounts on other telco providers to reduce costs, i was solidly loyal to vodafone in spite of this. in 2009 when my most recent contract fell due i was offered a new phone and new plan and because i had so many problems i extracted a verbal guarantee from the telephone salesperson that the problems were over if i took the new handset or i could cancel my contract. two days with the new phone and nothing had changed so i called in the promise, i got several new handsets sent to me over three weeks proposing to solve the problem but in the end they had to honour the agreement and cancel my contract. i moved to telstra and service was vastly differnt, it took vodafone 7 months to send me a refund cheque after calling them week in week out for my refund, alas i read they have bought huawei equipment, all i can say is good luck vodafone you made your bed now lie in it.
