26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

16259 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Stupi-fail at 11 Mar 2011 11:28:22 AM
Well, I cancelled my 12 month contract in September last year, switching to Optus and keeping the same number. Since then I've receive a text from Vodafone every month telling me that I owe them -$0.32 and it will be debited from my account on the 30th of the month.

Three main issues here:
1. I turned off direct debit THREE times and they still took money out.
2. This wasn't for my account, the account number was totally different to the one I had, had.
3. After almost six months, surely they'd have figured out that it was 32c they owed me and they could just drop it and leave me alone.

So I called them, after being on hold for 10 minutes I spoke to someone I could barely understand. I gave her my mobile number and the account number in the account number in the messages. Her response "This isn't your account number" "I know that, that's why I'm calling you to complain." "Oh, well I'll cancel this service for you and you shouldn't receive any more texts. Are you happy with the resolution today?" I hung up.

Now I'm wondering if they do this to many people. How can a company be so poorly managed?

I called the TIO six times on them in 12 months! It took 2 weeks of back and forth between stores and call centre, 2 calls to the TIO and one two hour phone call to get the account changed from my mother's name into mine. I constantly had issues as stupid and easily fixed as that.

Immediately after switching from 3 to Vodafone I started having reception issues, I'd kept the same phone just a new sim. When I asked Vodafone they told me it was a fault with my phone and I would have to buy a new one and see if the problem resolved and if it didn't I would have to purchase a new sim. Great solution.

One month they took money from my bank account AFTER I'd paid at Australia post (and asked them to turn off direct debit... three times). This meant that there was a double up in payments so it appeared on my next bill that I didn't owe anything and they told me not to pay it. So I didn't. In the meantime they refunded money into my bank account and then sent me a dishonour fee. It took three phone calls to sort that one out and a TIO complaint.

The list is endless. Needless to I haven't experienced any of these issues with Optus.

Well...my issue is this: 3 sucks...if you are in a brick house (outside of the CBD Melbourne) there is maximum 1 bar of reception, i use an iphone (3gs), and if im on the phone, talking, theres a 50% chance it will drop out...

Vodafone has merged with 3...very funny. the 2 worst telecoms merge.

Please can someone make a 3fail website please?

For a 48 hour period I received no text messages and then they all came through within an - so my phone was constantly beeping. Messages from friends and colleagues that required quick responses meant that I was very embarassed and had to apologise - friends are understanding, work colleagues not as much - saying 'something is wrong with my phone' is like the modern-day equivalent of 'the dog ate my homework'. I have been a loyal Vodafone custoomer for over five years and have never had any issues (well any that weren't rectified) before now. Disgruntled.

Border of Tarneit and Werribee, No 3G and sometimes no 2G. Phone constantly drops out inside house so have to go outside to call people. No good because computer is inside house so end up using land line......no good for business and the so-called unlimited cap is pointless.

3G reception is non-existent. 1km south-west and it's perfect, I just don't live their. Considering the area I live in is one of the fastest growing areas in Victoria I would have thought Vodaphony would be eager to cover it. Even Werribee plaza is a drop-out zone, and they have a Vodaphony store.

Mobile phone companies should have a duty to inform you before purchase that 3G is NOT reliable / available at your own address. To not inform you is a form of false advertisingand providing misleading information. Both of these breach the fair trading Act. The ACCC should demand this practice be stopped.

I'm not a big fan of Telstra but if Vodaphony don't fix this issue ASAP then they can have their phone back and a get one that actually works from Telstra.

16186 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Reception Issue at 7 Mar 2011 08:22:17 PM
I live in East Hawthorn in Melbourne and the Vodafone reception is hopeless. The network can disconnect completely and much of the time I have zero bars and a cross for "no reception" showing on my phone. Often I have to go upstairs in the house to get viable reception. It is hard to believe Vodafone reception can be so bad only 10 Km from the centre of Melbourne. Despite this East Hawthorn isn't even on the Vodafone upgrade list despite Customer Service advising that this is an area with "bad reception".

It looks like the only option is to change to another carrier.

Our Vodafone signal is always low and we experience constant drop outs at home and on the local roads for our mobile phone service. I had a Vodafone modem for my laptop and the service was so unpredictable I cancelled the service at the end of the contract. Amazingly i still get monthly accounts for this service - even though its then credited off - seems they cant delete the account from their system???

DO NOT EVER consider recommending vodafail's mobile broadband. I travel frequently and spend a great deal of time in the St Kilda area. At best I am able to achieve broadband speeds from an alleged 3G service. And Perth has not proved to be much better. What a WOFTAM. When I complained, they basically said tough shit. SO off to the ombudsman I go so I can get out of this crappy plan. They tried to tell me it was my equipment’s fault, ummmm nice try, I tried an Optus prepaid sim and it worked faultlessly... So long Vodafail, the only pleasurable part of this relationship is leaving.

Hi there,

as I'm sitting here typing this I'm watching as the time keeps ticking over on the Vodafone customer care (hah! don't make me weep with frustration) line while I'm on hold. I've now been on hold for one hour, six minutes and35 seconds and counting. I'm pretty outraged that the last time an actual person has been on the line to me was at 37 minutes and 40 seconds and at that stage they told me the wait would only be another 2-3 minutes.

I'm trying to sort out an issue with my mobile broadband which for the last 2 weeks has been cutting out continuously, the last time while I was trying to download a movie from iTunes. Now my credit card has been charged for this, so I've paid, but I haven't received the item as my broadband cut out half way through.

I'm incensed by the whole thing and beginning to suspect that there's a pure 'on hold' cul de sac line that doesn't progress in a queue.

I have tried over the last few weeks to email them with my issues but have had nothing back but automated response emails which no-one ever follows up. I just also tried to get their customer care number from Telstra so i could ring through on my other phone while the on hold line kept ticking over. To my utter disgust, the Telstra operator told me the Vodafone customer care line number had been pulled from the white pages in december last year and so I couldn't get the number.

I'm beyond furious now as I've been on the line for an hour and a quarter and am about to hang up and ring them back and give them an earful. Luckily for me I'll shortly be out of contract and I will never, ever be going back to vodafone and will be talking friends and family out of ever signing up with them. I am also going to make a complaint about this through the ombudsman.

Hope you go down in a ball of flames, Vodafone.

sincerely,

a very dissatisified customer

Husband was suppose to pick us up in Melbourne CBD. Cold, wet, baby wanting to get home. Not only was I not able to contact him for 20 min, he was unable to contact me. His calls to me where coming up with call failed, whereas my calls to him went straight to voicemail. 16106 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Who Knows at 3 Mar 2011 10:28:15 AM
I find it funny that everyone on here is moaning and complaining about Vodafone, Some of these people have just signed up in the past month or so, do they not read the papers, listen to the news and look into the network that they are signing up to? There has been enough media coverage about Vodafone over the past 6 -12 months.

I also find it funny that most of the people on here seem to think that it is ok to use foul and abusive language in their posts. Would you speak like that to someone at the TIO? Would you also refuse to talk to the TIO if that person is Indian? I doubt it, So why do we all seem to be so annoyed that we are speaking to an Indian on the other end of the Phone? They are also people and they are in fact trying to get a resolution to your problems, so I think it is time that we spoke to them with a little respect and humility.

I agree with most of the comments on here, VODAFONE are having network problems, it is effecting a number of people, each of us deals with this in different ways, I was 12 months into a 24 month agreement with a iPhone 4, It cost me $850 to terminate my contract, however it was money well spent in my eyes, Everyone has a choice, You can all terminate your contract, or you can all carry on moaning and complaining until your contract expires and you have spent the same amount for a sub standard service.

30 Mar 2011 11:26:40 AM: That's very true. Aussies are whingers.
2 Apr 2011 02:22:17 PM: Fool. Why pay $850 to terminate a contract when you are getting sub-standard service? You should have gone to the TIO. Soft-touches like you just encourage the corporates to screw their customers.

16098 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Doesn't like Lara at 2 Mar 2011 06:19:07 PM
The Vodafone automated voice system is absolutely hopeless and is there to as a barrier to providing service to customers. It is almost impossible to get through to a real person and it makes customers go through hoops in the hope they will go away and give up. When Lara didn't like my answers it cut off my call instead of transferring me to a person and I had to start all over again. All I want is to talk to a real person to gat my phone working. Finally got to a person who said my issue had to be handled by another department, so I was transferred to another robot which advised that it was now outside the business hours of the department, and then cut me off. Vodafail's support service is absolutely appalling.

16083 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is slow as sheet at 2 Mar 2011 02:27:15 PM
Mobile internet has been very very very slow for me. Some other annoying things are the marketing txts and inefficient prepay topup service.

Have sent a email to vodafone:

Im am using an iPhone 4 with vodafone prepay.

Have tried resetting the phone.
Loading websites is very slow and mostly times out. Any applications that use data wait a long time when trying to access the internet.
This is consistent across most of Melbourne even with full 3G signal.
When placed next to a phone connected to the telstra network the telstra one will take around 3 seconds to load a web page, the vodafone one takes minutes.
This has been happening for a long time now.. more than three months.

The mobile internet service you are currently providing me with is unusable and has been for some time. This is unacceptable. Please resolve immediately.

15996 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Monty Pythonesque at 25 Feb 2011 04:40:52 PM
I'm from Ascot Vale in Victoria. At least I can keep my friends (using other networks) amused with the truly ridiculous antics of Vodafone/3. Constant call drop outs, no reception, poor missed/delayed texts, uncontactable "customer service"... well, hang on; that's not exactly true. I can receive and make calls - if I go into the backyard and lean against the clothesline, or stand in the middle of the road. And I have been able to contact "customer service" on a couple of occasions. After waiting so long I've been able to mow the backyard. Twice - the grass re-grew. They could possibly be providing a fantastic service, but just in a different language. An effective tactic, that one. Well, to be fair, I did speak to someone in customer service once who spoke English. They explained to me that the problems were either (a) in my imagination or (b) could be solved by immediately upgrading my phone (and did they have a deal for me!!). I particularly loved the suggestion that, if I experience loss of reception, I should call them immediately. Firstly, if I have no reception, how do I call? And second, by the time anyone answers the phone, we'll likely have revolved several times around the sun. Funny, my partner's phone (other provider) has no problems at all(oh, unless trying to speak to me), and has never needed to call customer service. Now that's an idea!

I have been with Vodafail for a long time now and recently upgraded while living for about 6 months or so in Tasmania. I on the phone said to the sales guy, 'we are moving to Sale/Traralgon area in 6months time can you make sure we have coverage'. His response was that we should have no problem. The coverage maps suggest this also.

However, once here, I was confronted with constant call drop outs, poor quality calls, awful data and various other connection issues. I called, got put on hold, put to technical department and then finally to the retention team. I told them of my woes. The rather scornful bloke on the other end basically said he wasn't cancelling my contract because my conversation with the sales guy was never documented. I protested saying that the coverage maps said we would have full and unabated coverage. He said that he was sorry and offered me to change to the unlimited plan (45 per month) and we would have this free for two months. I said to him thanks, but this means nothing if our phone is constantly dropping out and being a pain. I then told him I'd take it further. He said I couldnt' go any further but him.

I called complaints later and spoke to an English guy (from the UK) and he said sorry a million times before suggesting (surprised me) to go to the TIC....so here I am. Nice phone, beautiful two months free...but a coverage that is so awful I may as well try and establish my own network by launching some satelittes. With 18months left on my contract, I can't tear it up unfortunately...

Woe to Vodafone, the worst telecommunications company..and that's saying something considering we have Telstra....

Last year November, I chose not to be ripped by Telstra anymore. I switched to Vodafail considering the advantages (iPhone4 paid out in 2 years, $500 worth of calls, 1.5Gb internet). How would I know Vodafail was indeed a fail? I suffer with 3G reception in Melbourne CBD. How come your phone shows full bars of 3G reception and takes ages to load a simple website? Gotta be VODAFAIL. How come your calls drop when you walk on Collins Street in Melbourne CBD? Gotta be VODAFAIL. How come you check your phone at home in Caulfield North and find it searching for carrier? Gotta be VODAFAIL. The sad thing is. We live in Australia, the so called 1st World Country. And you really have not many true alternatives in mobile communication. You either bend over for Telstra, or get a crap treatment by others. Proud to be an Australian indeed.

I'm trying to get my usage details from the vodafone website, as my monthly rollover date is tomorrow.

"Please note: Due to continuing delays, this information is only current as at approximately 72 hours ago.
We hope to have this reduced to normal by Friday 25 February.
For more up-to-date information, some customers are able to:
- Call 1512 for your current months remaining entitlements, or
- Call 1555 and selecting option 1 for touch tone, option 1 for accounts then option 2 for amount owing.

We apologise for any inconvenience."

Vodafone is completely useless.

I have also been trying unsuccessfully for 3 weeks to get the date that my 24 month contract is up.

I have two nokia phones one on a $29 cap and the other a $49 cap. Vodafone emails me a copy of my bills with records of all my calls. At no time have I exceeded the the caps (also shown on the bills) and I am being charge in excess of $140. I was previously on a vodafone prepaid $49 cap with an older phone and very rarely exceeded my cap. I only got the new phones because I was begining to have reception troubles, but with the new phones it has been a lot worse than before.

I can't believe what I have just read on today's The Age Online, quote "The telco says it has since increased the capacity of its network and resolved most of the major issues around dropped calls and delayed texts and voicemails." This has been the worst week for call dropouts in all my time with Vodafone! Either they are being dishonest with the public or this is the best service we can expect, either way I am jumping ship at the end of my contract!

Constantly having dropped calls, previously never had any, now it happens all the time. text messages not being sent, or taking forever to be sent. Internet downloads are slow, chewing up battery and therefore having to recharge my battery more than normal. What is vodafone doing about it? Cant wait for my contract to expire, will definitely be changing carries, regardless of the cost.

Another issue at Vodafone

http://www.theage.com.au/technology/technology-news/vodafone-forced-to-give-free-calls-after-recharge-debacle-20110218-1ayti.html

The article states at the end that

'The telco says it has since increased the capacity of its network and resolved most of the major issues around dropped calls and delayed texts and voicemails.'

This shows that they no longer deserve any patronage from anyone. Nothing has changed at Vodafone but they are constantly trying to make people think they have changed.
18 Feb 2011 09:44:56 PM: I am really glad they gave ppl free calls. It's crap that they can't get their sh*t together and let ppl recharge, but at least this time when they stuffed up they admitted to it and gave ppl something back.

If this had happened 3 months ago (it all changed thanks for vodafail.com) then they would have made ppl call india and chat to Reggie for 3 1/2 hours, only to be told that nothing was wrong and it was all in their head.

I will never use vodafone again as long as I live, but good on them for doing one, very very small thing right (for once!).

15658 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Data Charge Spike at 16 Feb 2011 09:32:23 PM
Since Oct 2010, I have been getting surges of data which have been spiking my Data Usage. We previously my Data charges were negligible, I am now getting MB spikes which adds up to a few dollars here and then. So my Data charge for the month of Oct 2010 is nearly as much as I spent on voice calls the year before.

I am wondering if anyone else has been getting these problems.

Also reception is now consistently falling to 2 bars compared to much higher signal strength in the past.

Ok, well this is sort of a win/fail situation.

The irony is that I had a win in regards to a TIO complaint that I lodged, 2 weeks later I recieved the text message stating i'd been released from my voice commitment and to call their customer service number, it also stated I would recieve more info in the mail...

After about 6 calls to the customer service number to discuss my options on leaving and to finalise it all, I am no further than
before I raised the complaint, I can't get through! I have left 5 voicemail messages all stating my name, number, tio complaint number etc... it's now been 8 days, and I still havn't recieved any mail in regards to the contract release.

Customer service call centre in Tas is harder to get hold of than their generic indian line...

All I want to do is rid myself of this network.

Fail.
16 Feb 2011 03:38:09 PM: Go back to the TIO with your original reference number and tell them the story, the TIO can further escalate for you, if I am reading your post correctly the incident level is then increased and presto Vodafail have to pay more dosh......I think you will then see some rapid action from Vodafone.

16 Feb 2011 09:14:46 PM: yep def go back to TIO. same thing i did, and vodafone "tried" to call me, but called like 2 times in 3 weeks and both times in the middle of the day on a monday so i was at work and missed it. and then ended up just getting a letter in the mail saying i was released and could port out free of cost. haha.

I purchased an IPhone via Vodafone at the Casino Store in Melbourne in the first week of January 2011, and signed up for their $45 unlimited call plan. I was totally unaware of the network issues that Vodafone was having - was only informed of this by a close friend after I signed up. I didn't see a need to check Vodafone's coverage as I used them years ago and was very happy with their service and coverage. I wish I had. Up until today, 16 Feb I have had serious issues with data downloads (just logging into weatherzone has become an issue - at times it does not load due to network error). My phone drops out and often, calls have not been connecting. In fact, I tried calling home 10 times and after the 11th try - I managed to get through. Not happy at all as I use my phone predominantly for business purposes. I want to get out of the contract - however in the interim, I will join the line of very unhappy customers and will join the suit. The irony of all this, is that I have a 3G Kindle and I get faster connection to the net via this simple e-reader than by Vodafone.
16 Feb 2011 01:46:35 PM: Contact the TIO, I recently got out of my contract, was only with them for 2 months, first ring up vodafail and make a complaint, then go to TIO,they should be able to get you out free of charge, push your way and dont settle for anything less than cancellation from vodafone, if you're losing business they are in breach of contract so you have a right to leave.Goodluck

Charged hundreds of dollars incorrectly due to a 'systems error'. The back office staff are attempting to fix the contract issue and the money will be credited to my future accounts. Not much use to me as I'm now stuck with the interest on hundreds of dollars that was taken out of my credit account due to a stuff up on their part.

This on top of the usual useless reception and service.

According to Voda's coverage maps, I'm blanketed by 3G coverage - by at least 10km in every direction. Yet I often can't get a signal at all (not even 2G), even when outside, with no tall buildings in sight.

Vodafone's website is all but useless. When trying to log in to My Vodafone, four times out of five I get an error message (I'm CERTAIN my details are correct). If I do successfully log in, clicking on any of the links within My Vodafone (e.g. to check my usage) usually just sends me back to the login page!

DZ

Upgraded to a I phone 4 07/02/2011 after my 24 months contract ended in Dec 10
Local Vodafone dealer rang to activate micro sim card advised should be ready in about 2 hrs.
Well Tuesday 08/02/2011 afternoon rang Vodafone to ask what is happening, was told should be ready in 24 hrs no explanation as to what the issue is, sorry for the inconveince.
Wednesday 09/02/2011 still nothing rang Vodafone again was told that there is a back office issue with swapping sims need to wait 24 hrs to be rectified.
Thursday 10/02/2011 spoke with floor supervisor was told that its a back office issue and that they will need 24-48 hrs to rectify, after much persistance was told that my old sim was not deactivating properly and that the new micro sim would not activate because of this, supervisor said that he will call (still waiting).
Tuesday 15/02/2010 more than enough time to rectify the issue was told that my account details have been suspended and to rectify the issue will take 24hrs - 10 days,
Tried different avenue by calling the Sydney head office was told that they will put me through to a senior Australian supervisor lol straight to customer care service in India
My question to Vodafone do you care that your long term customers are being treated in this way?
Not impressed at all Vodafone get your act together
21 Feb 2011 01:33:29 PM: Update-

Still waiting for any responce from Vodaphone, finally received a sms asking me to contact them as they had tried to contact me but no responce, very strange considering that l had no missed calls or sms's from them.
Tried to contact Vodaphone and somehow got in the waiting line for Myki (Victorian travel card disaster, oh not once but twice)
Finally had enough went back to the shop where all paper work was completed, explained the whole story, after much discussion apparently i was not listed as a customer via name, phone number or account number, the only way they could retrieve my details was via drivers licence number, email was sent via store to head office sales support explaining the whole issue.

21/02/2011
15:00 still no contact from Vodaphone including store, l decided to ring them instead there excuse is that Seibel (Vodaphone customer data base)has a major error which she explained that the replied email they originally sent has no time frame as to when this issue will be resolved.
Store manager then asks "would you like me to ask for a time frame?"
What a joke talk about customer service hahahahahahaha

At the end of the billing cycle, i have been stuck on 3333.33 mb, left out of my 8GB...so, i have used it with great trepidation for days, for fear of going over my limit. I connected with Vodafone via Crazy Johns on the 4th of February, 2011. Every day since then I have not been able to access the internet without sometimes up to 50 attempts due to not receiving a strong enough signal even though I was assured by the Salesperson that the reception in Oakleigh was quote "excellent". They were not interested in helping me and said I have to ring Vodafone directly. After ringing Vodafone directly on the 7th of February, 2011 I ended up speaking to someone in Mumbai, India. They told me that they would run tests and contact me within 3 to 5 days. Well it is now 7 days and I have not been contacted with any explanation as to why I am paying for a service that is completely useless. I have been with Vodafone a week and already hate them. After 6 happy years as a loyal 3 customer with no trauma with service, ever, I have had to switch to Vodafone pre-paid as I'm moving overseas and 3 mobile pre paid didn't have the handset I wanted. So, loaded up my $49 credit last Sunday, migrated my number over (having had the same number for years didn't want to lose my contacts) and lo and behold on FRIDAY NIGHT i.e peak mobile usage time for no reason and with no explanation my phone stopped being able to call out or send messages. After trying to contact the 155 number multiple times, and only hearing bloody Lara I finally got through to someone who explained it was an issue that would be resolved within 24 hours, not a human error, and therefore could not be sped up. I waited my 24 hours and BOOM saturday night no service still. Called again multiple times and was told the team who fix these 'technical issues' wouldn't be in till Monday and the rollout of the soloution may not come through till Tuesday, possibly even Wednesday. They also would not explain what the issue was. So for the last two weekends I have been without service and stranded. Absoloutely abysmal service and I see no good reason to stay with Vodafone, having spent $100 in the last week on Credit and being unable to call anyone is about the most frustrating thing I've experienced as a customer in a long long time.

In short, I will most definitely be migrating my number to another provider and staying the hell away from Vodafone once I have been allowed to spend my credit. What a joke.

15508 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Painfully Slow at 12 Feb 2011 09:16:56 AM
I have broadband with vodafone and its terrible. Sometimes it runs in bps not even kbps. I find the more reception bars it shows the worse it is. Also have vodafone for my iphone 4. Completely pointless to have internet on your phone when it takes over 20 mins just to load google. Calls constantly drop out and always loses coverage. Especially in the city or at home (Derrimut). Most frustrating thing is the delay the website shows your usage. I check my usage often on the website. Last month for example, checked the website 4 days before the end of the billing month. Said another 800mb left. I did not use the internet again for 2 days and checked - still saying 800mb. I checked my banking and stayed at my friends house for 2 days. Receive my bill for $30 more than my plan. Apparently I went over my usage. A delay of 4 days are you serious. Its really ripping people on contract off. If you are on prepay it would show your remaining balance immediately and stop the second it run out. Seems ridiculous
14 Feb 2011 09:16:40 AM: I live in Oakleigh and have exactly the same problem trying to log onto google or any internet site. How can the salespeople blatantly lie to your face when you ask them what the reception is like. They are as bad, if not worse the the company they are employed by.

Over the last 4 months I've really began to notice the lack of reception with Vodafone in Metropolitan Melbourne. I found it hilarious that last Saturday night I was standing in the line at Hoyts Cinemas at Chadstone Shopping Centre and I had no reception. It has to be at most 20km from the CBD and the busiest shopping centre in Melbourne and possibly Australia.

I am waiting for the next generation of dual core smart phones to arrive in May/June and when they do, it's goodbye Vodafail and hello Telstra!

15491 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is ridiculous promotion fail at 11 Feb 2011 02:18:03 PM
Have been with 3 for a number of years, and off contract for a few months. Just moved house and 3 reception was consistently poor to non-existent. Tested a friend's Vodafone sim and got much better reception, and despite my better judgement (being well aware of Vodafone's "issues"), went into a 3 store to migrate to Vodafone. I signed up for a SIM only $35 cap with 500MB data (month-to-month, not a contract). The salesman tried to select this plan which appears on the current brochure and the Vodafone website, but could only see one called "SIM Only $35 Cap 6Mths". He checked the details and it said 0 month term, but said to come into the store if there was a problem.

First problem, I tried to register for the My Vodafone online portal. Entered my phone number and was told a temporary password had been sent by SMS to my phone to confirm my identity. The password SMS arrived sure enough... 32 hours later. Obviously it had expired by then. I tried about 5-6 times before I finally got it within a minute and successfully registered.

Once logged into My Vodafone, I checked my data usage, and was surprised to see that I had 250MB data quota on the account. I assumed it was a pro rata amount based on my remaining quota from 3 and waited for the billing cycle to roll over. Nope, 250MB again. I rang VF Customer Care, told a very bored sounding woman my details and the problem twice, and was then told that the call centre did not have access to the plan and that I was on a 6 month contract plan with 250MB data.

So I went back to the store, and spoke to a very helpful staff member. He said the call centre have more access then them so being told to go back to the store was rubbish, but he called Customer Care on my behalf. He actually had to scan the brochure to show the call centre that 500MB was part of the plan. After being on hold for ages, he was told that the "6Mths" on the plan name was part of a "promotion", where I pay half-price for six months. That's the good news. The bad news is for those six months my data quota is also halved. I said, "That's a pretty shithouse "promotion". If I wanted to pay less for less data, I would have gone on a lower plan, don't you think? And also, for a "promotion", it wasn't actually promoted any where!" He reckoned the plan shouldn't have been on the system, and I shouldn't have been put on it. Luckily I'm not on contract so I can cancel this plan or change to a different one if needed (or go to a decent carrier), but seriously, what is the point of advertising a particular plan and then putting users on a lesser plan than the one they asked for? How is that in any way an incentive? Nice to pay less but if I want 500MB I wanted 500MB, not to arbitrarily halve it and charge me less!
21 Feb 2011 10:07:45 AM: Just a follow up on this: I got my bill and of course it wasn't "half price" at all. I've called Customer Care three times about this issue and was told something completely different each time. One of the operators thanked me for being so calm and polite, as she was used to copping abuse from angry customers all day! The last CSR I spoke to said it was a "system error" due to Vodafone increasing the quota in their plans recently (doubtful as they've had this plan for ages), and she said she would increase the quota on my plan to 500MB. She didn't. It seems like they'll tell you anything to get you off the phone! It's also annoying that the CSRs never seem to leave memos/notes on your account about previous calls or complaints - every time you call, you have to tell them the whole story again, and they seem to have no clue what others have told you as none of it seems to be logged. It reminded me of that episode of "The Simpsons" where Chief Wiggum was saying to a caller "Yes, Mr Jackass, I'll just type it up on my invisible typewriter..."
20 Aug 2011 02:16:25 PM: Hi - very similar story for me. I rang a while ago to upgrade my data usage from the measly 50MB I was on. I was upgraded to the $35 SIM only Cap, having been told this included 250MB - plenty for me. Lately I have had some larger bills, and on closer inspection my data plan is still only 50MB! When I called the operator told me that a 50MB plan was the only plan available at the time! Bollocks!

I know my 3 (vodafail) contract is almost up say about 2-3 weeks to go. i went into a vodafone store to cancel my contract but because i still have a few weeks he said i will have to pay out $12.50 as ive cancelled my contract early my point was why should i keep paying you pricks when im not even getting a serivce im payin for cut the story short he went on and on about it and the main point was i still have to pay . i said no im not payin extra i will come back in a few weeks and cancel it then.he had the nerve to say would you like to upgrade I dont tink so LOL
21 Apr 2011 02:03:55 PM: Lol! i had the same thing with my 3 mobile. They said i couldnt cancel in advance once my contract ended at all! They said i also had to call the day before my contract ended to cancel it, no earlier no later. Im suprised they didnt specify a time. I was considering going to Vodaphone but im pretty sure im going to Optus after rwading all of the above.

15457 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Major fail at 10 Feb 2011 03:05:55 PM
I have been with 3 (now part of Vodafone) for several years and had no problems, until I moved to Melbourne ... before applying for a rental property I went into the 3/Vodafone store to ask about coverage and was informed there was full coverage (for mobile and mobile broadband) where I wanted to move to. Of course, when I actually arrived in my new city, alone and overwhelmed, I found that I had next to no coverage for either my phone or internet. Going back into the store was no help and I then spent many phone calls backwards and forwards with 3 "Customer Care", being transferred from one department to the next with long hold periods between.

Finally they agreed to release me from my 3 contracts if I agreed to try Vodafone first. I stated that I did not want to do this as I had been a Vodafone customer several years ago and had been very dissatisfied with the service and reception - Only to be told that the network had been 'significantly' improved. I was given a credit on my account of $30 to enable me to purchase Vodafone prepaid SIMs to trial.

It took 1 hour instore to get signed up for the SIMs which ended up costing over $50 (once any data allowance was included) - for which I refused to pay and made the staff call 3 Customer Care to sort it out themselves.

In short, the Vodafone reception was, as I knew it would be, even worse than 3's! So I rang Vodafone to ask for this to be recorded on my account so that I would have all the documentation required to be released from my 3 account. The person I talked to kept telling me that there should be adequate reception where I lived and that it must be a handset fault (despite it working perfectly prior to my move) - he kept insisting that the only way he could help me was if I called back on an alternate number. No matter how many times I explained that I was alone in a new city with only a mobile phone and no alternate to use, he kept telling me the same thing. I ended up in tears on the phone and even when I told him that I couldn't even have a conversation with my mum without it dropping out, and that I was worried that if I needed to call an ambulance or the police that I wouldn't be able to, he just kept telling me to call back on an alternate number. In the end, I hung up in tears.

3 had also tried the 'alternate number' sham for the purposes of running 'handset checks' but had at least understood when I told them (for the 10th time) that there was no alternate number.

So, 3 finally agreed to let me out of my contract for the mobile and internet, without the cancellation fees. But they were unable to stop the cancellation fees from appearing and told me I would have to call back after my bill arrived to get the cancellation fees removed. I am also told that I am required to pay out the remaining handset installments on my phone (some $450).

A bill arrived and I rang 3 today to confirm if my direct debit was still active (given that they've cancelled my online access to my account details) and in the process found that they had NOT cancelled my internet account in January as I had asked, and been told had occurred. And they were expecting me to pay whatever pro-rata charges there were since this time.

I refused and spent quite some time outlining to the representative I spoke with that it was not my fault the previous person I had spoken to was obviously incompetent and had not done the job they said they would or made notes that this is what had been discussed. And highlighting that I intended to take this matter (and the overall completely horrific service received from 3 and Vodafone) to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman - at which point they agreed to 'make an exception' for me and waive the pro-rata fees on my internet account.

The distress this has caused me - in terms of having to justify myself and make my position clear to people who keep reinterpreting it and choosing to only focus on one aspect of my story, as well as having to repeat the whole, convoluted tale each and every time I have been transferred to a new department - the isolation I have felt all alone in a new city - and the waste of time this has all been has convinced me to make a complaint to the TIO and to never trust Vodafone again (Optus wasn't much better either - their reception was also substandard and the 3 hours I spent standing in their store on hold to their customer care team left me in tears and with a migraine - all to access their 30 day reception guarantee a mere 3 days after signing up).

Since January 24th 2011 I have rang Vodafone 4 times regarding the sending of my mobile phone bill in the mail. Always get the same answer its in the mail.
Account is now overdue at no fault of mine. It also took them five & a half days to connect my mobile phone. I have requested to be released at no cost to me from my contract as this service is a disgrace but have not heard back from Vodaphone as yet.

Voice messages appear even though my phone doesn't ring on nearly a daily basis, simple text only sms fail to send after numerous attemps (less than 50 characters in one case), data speed slow to the point of being absolutly useless. This all takes place in the Melbourne CBD!!! If they can't get it right here what chance do they have elsewhere. I've been with Vodafone for 6 months and am considering breaking my contract and re-joining with Telstra!!

I changed from Optus to Vodafone to save 5 bucks about a month before their network crashed and now am having to deal with what they call a network. My mobile data is like going back to dial up internet with really, really... really... slow data speeds and pretty much non existant mobile tower switching. Every time I move a suburb my phone doesn't register on the network to the point where I have to turn it into airplane mode and back out to reset it's connection with vodafone.... 5 bucks...

If I don't get released from my contract soon, I'm definitely signing up to that class action lawsuit. They make excuses, saying "oh they're just upgrading that area now. It will be completed in _____ (whatever the next month is)". "I'll just put you over to our technicians who should be able to fix the problem for you"
9 Feb 2011 11:54:44 AM: Reality check: Vodafone don't give a f*ck - have you not noticed 15,000 others on here saying the same thing?

go to the TIO and complain, or call their cancellations department and start shouting at them and don't stop till they cave in. Also sign up with PA if you've lost money/job/income because of VF.

Otherwise you need to get real cause they don't give a f*ck about you. they only care about $$$$$$. you're wasting your breath/time/energy/remaining sanity.

15378 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Complete at 8 Feb 2011 09:23:22 PM
We moved suburb last week from Caulfield North to Prahran, less than 2 Kms away,

And my partner and I are both on Vodafone.

We have no reception in house and very low in the middle of the street and backyard (prone to dropping out constantly)

When we were sold the devices we got the Vodafone bs of we cover 90% of australia, so of course we assumed that would metro area for sure.

Now we are up the creek. I work emergency call and I soon will be out of contract but my partner recently signed up to a 24 month contract.

We need help. Vodafone is a complete fail, and should not really be able to claim to provide service, even in our old address our signal was very poor 24/7 but at least useable. We have tried a few diff handsets but they just suck, plain and simple.
9 Feb 2011 07:07:37 AM: Contact the TIO, they will get you out of your contract penalty free.....

15376 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is No Coverage. at 8 Feb 2011 08:12:42 PM
I bought a HTC Desire HD Smartphone in December 2010 through Vodafone on a monthly plan. Great phone with all the bells and whistles. However, I have had the words "Limited service, emergency calls only" emblazoned across my screen since I got it (by the way, I live in metro Melbourne not in Timbuktu). Despite numerous calls to Vodafone and even face to face contact with the 15 year olds who work in their stores, still no joy. They have now taken my phone to be "checked" (a process they said could take 3 weeks). A very unhappy customer!
8 Feb 2011 08:39:53 PM: You do realise that they can't have 15 year olds working in their stores right?? Employees need to be 18 years old - otherwise they would need a parent/guardian there to sign the contract on their behalf.
Oh and your phone isn't being "checked" it's been sent to a repair centre
10 Feb 2011 04:00:41 PM: im guessing 1st replyer is one of the teens who work there xD

Download rates from the Vodafone Wireless Modem are continually dropping to 0.00 kbs and changing from 3G to HSUPA which is so slow that I just give up trying. I have lost the opportunity to purchase items on E-Bay due to this recurring problem and believe that Vodafone should somehow increase their transmission signals.

Got a second month-to-month sim Nov because I was going over my mobile broadband data allowance. Unbeknownist to me (until it was waaaaay too late) it wasn't linked to my main account so even while I was religiously checking my usage, I managed to rack up $270 in excess usage fees ... and the account wasn't being paid as I just use my vodafone, I don't pay attention to the emails (have learned that lesson!) I didn't even find out until I went into the store about something else... what's stupid is I'm probably the only one so happy with their pocket wifi coverage I use up to 20 gb a month on it... it's their customer service & systems that let them down :( (@meinmelb on twitter)
9 Feb 2011 02:49:24 PM: I cant even access my account online havent been able to for a week (since i set it up, cant text the number to get it either) its F***** UP
