Dear visitor,
Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant
contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced
by Vodafone customers.
Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders.
You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.
Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.
More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly.
Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints.
The site will remain online for as long as possible as a
reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.
It has been a privilege to run this initiative
and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In
particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their
continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.
You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.
Until next time,
Adam Brimo

1893 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is not what I signed up for at 27 Dec 2010 10:57:37 AM
I have had to keep my blackberry on 2G for 6+ weeks just so that I can receive calls and sms's. Mind you, all my calls drop out. I have been on Vodafone for 10+ years and I'm ready to switch to Virgin. I'm sure the staff in the indian call centre are lovely, but they were No. Help. At. All.
1892 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is equal to apple at 27 Dec 2010 10:57:23 AM
what kind of phone do you have that you are using the Vodafone network? an iphone? the iphone was clearly advertised before, to be a bad reception phone. Do you have a iphone? give us an idea what kind of phone you have, when you comment, so we get an understanding what you are using. I blame the iphone equal to vodafone. They are both as bad as each other!
27 Dec 2010 10:59:25 AM: Thank goodness, some sense from someone regarding the iphone. Looks great, very nice to play with, semi-useless as a phone.
27 Dec 2010 11:01:25 AM: 1700 people have posted on this forum. Thank you for your wisdom, but I'd suggest that the common denominator is the Vodafone network. Even the Vodafone CEO has admitted that the network is failing.
27 Dec 2010 11:12:42 AM: i know this, i agree.. but, the iphone is a terrible phone for reception, just google this fact, and you will see the amount of information out there regarding this. BUT ppl still buy it, and now whinge. I think they are both equal bad, and should be both terminated, NOT just vodafone
28 Dec 2010 10:19:44 AM: Never have any trouble with my iphone4 (that's on telstra) way better than any Nokia brick I ever had! (can't stand the Indian call centers with telstra though!)

Try walking down george street in sydney city centre after you have come out of the post office..
I had to turn off/on phone twice before it would connect to the network..
Thought it was my old htc android phone, upgraded to a new htc desire hd and it still behaves the same!!!

We live in the northern beaches and consistently have issues with the Vodafone data service dropping out recently. It has been getting worse in the past few months rather than better.
27 Dec 2010 11:15:19 AM: Northern beaches people hate you too.
27 Dec 2010 11:23:40 AM: the person who lives in the Eastern Suburbs and hates northern beaches residents is probably a renter or up to his eyeballs in debt and living beyond his means!
1882 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is dreadful at 27 Dec 2010 10:52:50 AM
I'm a lawyer. Several clients have actually blamed me for cutting them off. Other clients say that I don't answer their calls or that they get messages saying the mobile is unattended or whatnot. I have complained-they said they would check on the antenna servicing the area but there was no feed-back, not a dickey bird and the service remains patchy-I have to stand in a certain doorway of my house to get get good reception-woe betide me if I move away from it! I have their bill and now they have my complaint
1880 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Big Fail at 27 Dec 2010 10:51:24 AM
The Top Ryde Shopping Center has had no mobile coverage inside it's doors for Vodafone customers for nearly 8 months. When I rang Vodafone to find out why this was, they told me that it was not their fault. It was the Shopping Center itself that had not turned on the internal transmitters and, despite several requests from Vodafone, they refuse to turn them on. Now for a new center that is trying to get customers through the door this sounded very strange to me. So I rang the center to find out why they were not turning them on. Spoke to a lovely girl there who said that they were quite happy to turn on the transmitter for Vodafone, but they had to pay the fee for it's use like all the other mobile companies and that they had refused to do so. If this is not a case of leaving your customers out to dry for what must be peanuts compared to what they make out of us everyday, then I don't know what is.

1872 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Epic fail at 27 Dec 2010 10:46:56 AM
Vodafone used to be good. Really. They did. As opposed to 3 (who are now part of Vodafone in a bizarre twist), who were expensive, had little to no coverage, and whose IT depatment made chimps look like engineers.
For some reason, and only in the past 5 or so years, Vodafone has gone really bad.
Coverage can only be described as crap, the word "plan" is used very loosely, and "customer service" seems to be an outdated, frowned upon method of solving a problem.
Personally, I think I have only suffered as much as the next person, but it is the fact that we are suffering at all that bothers me!
Why do I think sitting on the phone for "18 to 23 mintues" is acceptable? Especially when that seems to translate to approximately 45 to 90 minutes, and just in waiting time. Why do I just accept the fact that I can no longer use the email function on my iPhone unless I go into the Safari application and log on from there, apparentley because "Vodafone no longer supports that function", even though it did so just fine for 3 months!? And why do I also accept the fact that every second month or so, I "accidentially" get charged an astronomical amount, have a 40 minute conversation with Vodafone's tech support who unable to give any type of assurance whatsoever, and then I'm surprised when it happens again!?
Thank you for a place to share this Adam Brimo! Hopefully I will get away from Vodafone before my 30th birthday!

I have been with VF for more than three years and have never experienced such shitty service and quality as I have the past three months. Websites fail to load and call quality is so bad that I often borrow my partner's phone (Telstra) to make and receive calls. WTF Vodafone?
BUT I do have to say that reception and Internet connection is very good on the Epping-Chatswood rail line. It's funny that VF is able to deliver such good quality service more than 150 metres underground yet fails to deliver aboveground.

1853 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Not sure - but its a fail. at 27 Dec 2010 10:40:09 AM
I don't know if its a Vodafone fail or a Commonwealth Bank one, but I rang the bank and everything is fine with my cards and accounts:
I am registered for the Bonus Bank scheme, I wanted to purchase the Nokia E71 with the $14 I had on my account - turns out if you're with the Commonwealth Bank, you CANNOT make a purchase with Vodafone online.
For the record I was trying to use my Debit Mastercard = no go.
Tried using my brother's Commonwealth Band Mastercard, with his permission
(a regular credit card) = no go
Now I have $20 in my Bonus Bank account and that's lovely, but I can't use it.
Please explain?

1851 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Unable to call with call dropouts at 27 Dec 2010 10:39:12 AM
I have been a vodaphone customer for few years now. In the last year I have been very annoyed because of inability to make calls when I really need to, call drop outs, and delayed text messages. I have same issue with my wifes vodaphone. Same is occurring with my friend with vodaphone too. It is a shame that vodaphone has not fixed the issue. Hope this website will give them the slap they need.

1846 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is extremly at 27 Dec 2010 10:36:04 AM
I had Vodafone mobile internet for about 9 months and got constantly fed up with how slow the service was. Meanwhile trying to complete online study made it worse. When I sighned up for it the sales person assured me that it was as good as adsl broadband...oh how he lied! I was on a 12 month contract and figured i couldn't get out of it but got so wild that I rung up the call centre, was on hold forever, don't get me started on how rubbish Lara the animated service system is. Finally got to speak to someone in Mumbai India and explain my story to 3 different people. After long discussions I managed to end the contract early but have wasted over $500 in a service that I beerly used.
1845 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is ridiculously pathetic at 27 Dec 2010 10:34:52 AM
Besides all the issues everyone else is suffering (dropouts, slow data, delayed SMS,pathetic customer service, etc, etc, etc) the manufacturer of my so called "smart phone" released a software upgrade for the phone addressing a few of its many shortcomings several months ago but Vodafail is not releasing it for download. The only reason I can think of is: why make a customer more satisfied with his handset (with manufactures' faults) if you might be frustrated enough with it to prematurely buy another plan/phone from them?
I would be glad to join a class action.

Been trying to log into my Vodafone account online for years in order to change details etc. Sometimes it works, other times it tells me it's the wrong password, then I have to enter my birthdate and then it tells me MY OWN BIRTHDATE IS WRONG.
Yet instore, all is fine and dandy. I don't get it, how is it my details can change so often by someone who isn't me or with my authority?

27 Dec 2010 11:14:47 AM: I just posted my own story but I had exactly the same problem with logging in on-line also. When I tried to contact them via the website they made it so hard and time consuming you just give up. They don't respect people's time and I am sure they have set it up deliberatly to discourage you from contacting them. They think we're all idiots.

I was a customer of Vodafone for 4 years. I had nothing bad to say about this company until the beginning of this year (2010). I began receiving complaints from friends that they could hardly hear me, calls started to drop out and I would have maximum reception bars on the handset but when I attempted to make a call it would not connect. Also reception issues where vodafone said I had reception I had none.
Unfortunately for vodafone my contract expired in November. I gave them a call (after waiting an hour) to see what was going on and to see if there was some explanation onto what was happening. I was advised that I needed to provide them with 3 examples of time, place and phone number dialled before they would consider my complaint. After waiting an hour and a further 30 minutes to register this complaint, it sealed Vodafones fortune for me.
After being a loyal customer for 4 years, it has become apparent that they really don't appreciate the customer and the best thing I ever did was switch to Telstra. As a previous Telstra customer about 6 years ago, I was a little hesitant as I had, had a few issues with their customer service at that time. To my delight, I have had nothing but exceptional service and reception from them and would recommend that all you people having problems with Vodafone walk with your feet. Hit them in the hip pocket.

1840 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is crazy bills at 27 Dec 2010 10:29:51 AM
I gave up trying to work out why my bills were at $450 per mth. I had been with vodafone for over 10years..and then this year started to experience both poor reception and poor customer service. I explained that there had been no change in my call pattern and I am on a business plan $79 cap plan which is for high users and that my bills were insane. I had constant complaints from clients and friends. I decided to bite the bullet and payout my contract and went to crazy johns on an umlimited blackberry plan to stop the bleeding. I thought this was risky but I needed a quick fix and entered into a $79 unlimited plan. for some reason I have experience better reception and customner service from crazy johns than with vodafone which is all a bit weird..maybe due to blackberry service..No excuse to vodafone...prior to my decision to leaving they offered me a deal to extend my contract with an extra phone which i agreed and then they palmed me off to someone else who reneg on the deal...absolutely ridiculous..
1838 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Was good now POOR at 27 Dec 2010 10:28:44 AM
I run a business, travel constantly and work out of 4 states. My Blackberry is my most important business tool. Many parts of Melb CBD, Sydney CBD and even Canberra experience block outs. Because Voda USED to be good - I thought is must have been my new Blackberry and was about to hound them!
I do have to congratulate Vodafone Management on 1 thing - they are starting to make Telstra under Sol look competent!

1834 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Epic at 27 Dec 2010 10:26:40 AM
Ths biggest setback this retarded network has caused me was a series of 3 day late voicemails from a prospective employer for an apprenticeship interview which i later found was a sure thing if only i hadnt recieved the multiple voicemails just hours after the interview was scheduled. Since then on numerous occasions i have attempted to complain after many bounced or dropped calls, but the process is too lengthy and painful (for a reason no doubt). Over the christmas period i was away from my girlfriend (also with vodafone) and every single call was dropped at 7 minutes on the dot! Over the past few months i have deterred 5 friends from entering plans with vodafone. Im not a number! And in May i am a free man! Fcuk you vodafcuk!
1831 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Increasingly so at 27 Dec 2010 10:25:08 AM
I've been with Vodafone for a number of years. In the last six months or so, the reception around and in my home as well as around where I work has become very patchy. I often have the phone showing strong 3G signal strength, yet no data through put. I drop back to GPRS mode to get data. In the last few weeks, it has also become common for voice reception in my home to just disappear, with the phone showing 'Searching...'
1826 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Extreme Fail! at 27 Dec 2010 10:22:59 AM
Vodafone has just sent me a message saying I am $300 oweing for services not included in my cap. However they say I am now on the $79 Cap, which is totally wrong, I have never been on this cap, I have always been on the $99 Cap.
I have been calling them but my signal is so bad that it keeps dropping out, which most of my calls have for the past year!

1818 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is at 27 Dec 2010 10:19:57 AM
I've had so many issues with vodafone I'm no longer with them. But most recently I was on the phone for almost an hour, on hold, trying to sort out a billing issue. Finally I had to hang up before actually speaking to anyone because I had to go to work. I have called back twice since and spoken to customer service people in Mumbai who are trying to sort out my billing issue. Vodafone needs to reimburse me the $60 they charged to my credit card after I left vodafone in October. They admit they owe me the money, but they haven't reimbursed me yet.
Last year I travelled for work and a vodafone sales person recommended I use a USB with a 24 month contract for wireless internet. Many of the places I travelled to in Australia had very weak service, if any service at all. I spent hours and hours on the vodafone help-line, and finally vodafone recinded my contract.
My father and sister had vodafone accounts until recently. For the ten years they had their accounts they received extremely poor customer service. at the completion of their contracts they have been charged at least $100 more than they owed, but the process of trying to deal with customer service prohibits any attempt on their part to reclaim that money.

I am a customer of 3. I was Perfectly happy with 3's service ( hqve been a customer with them for 5 years)and had perfect 3G reception at my house (40kms west of Sydney) and in the cbd. Since the merger with voda my phone has struggled to make phone calls at these locations and many more not being able to access 3G where I previously could. This isn't what I signed up for!

1813 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Terrible coverage in the CBD! at 27 Dec 2010 10:16:37 AM
Living and working in Sydney CBD one would expect excellent coverage, yet it is nothing of the sort - often times I am unable to dial any numbers, receiving an annoying 'BEEP' when trying to dail out. Dropped calls both at home and office are a daily occurance, and I know to stick my head up against a windoe if I want to talk for more then 30 seconds.

Maybe if they spent all that money they are spending on TV ads and sponsoring the lame Cricket *yawn* on their network, they might not have these probs.
Vodafone - the only people who care about your cricket sponsorship are the Indians who keep us on hold for an hour in your lame, rude, annoying offshore call centres.

Working in the CBD in Sydney and living just across the Bridge. Reception is consistently full 3G yet calls drop out consistently after 1-2 mins, sometimes calls don't connect and get automatically directed to vmail, data services around circular quay are absolutely pitiful during working hours. One more note, customer service at the Vodafone store in World Square is the worst I've ever seen "we are just a franchise, we can't help you, you need to use the telephone"..... what a cop out. If you have the vodafone logo on your store you are representative of them, sort yourselves out.

ACCC investigates pyramid and other nefarious schemes, what about this one thats staring them in the face. Issues in sydney have been going on for 1.5 years now, started with no 3G coverage near parammata, to full blown calls dropping off. Got told that contract doesnt cover calls being received in your home, ok fine, so i need to get out of my house to receive a call. Then, get offered 40$ wave off for my incovenience, but calls still keep dropping off. calls last barely a minute and i keep getting charged connection fee.last months bill 305, before that 606, before that 400...and for this sort of service? ..i now have a separate telstra fone to which i forward all my calls..so atleast i can use the telstra reception.so that i dont get embarrased with my clients even when i receive callsss. F%&$ off Vodafone...ur hopeless, infact your ex-customers will setup websites to show potential new and already existing customers how worthless the service is, and infact even if i have to busker outside a vodafone store singing crap about vodafone and its reception, i will so do it now. I take that as community service

I have had an ongoing issue with my phone and reception for well over 1 year. I have returned my phone on 3 occasions to get it 'fixed'....nothing has worked. I have begged them for another type of phone to try, however, I have to wait until the end of my contract. I can't get phone reception at my house - my husband is with optus and he has perfect reception! I have been a customer for a long time...I can't wait until my contract ends. When I tried to call because I was having issues with my voicemail I was on hold for just over an hour, then an Indian guy answered who told me to visit the website! I told him I had done this and he said there was nothing he could do as all the 'settings' in my account had voicemail switched on.
Also my date is PAINFULLY slow, facebook, smh.com.au everything takes ages to load (even if it does load).
My friend has Optus, and while he doesn't love them, he said he has never been on hold for more than ten minutes when he has a prob.

I blame Hutchison. Everything they've touched in Australia has turned to sh*t. Optus GSM in the late 1990's, Orange was awful in the early 2000's, 3 simply bled money and never really worked out - then Vodafone merges with them, and *bam* - Vodafone falls apart lol.
But honestly, your all getting unlimited calls, sms, mms & 1GB of data for less than I'm paying on Telstra for $400 worth - expect some drop outs, it's part of the deal.

My mobile can not hold a call on 3G, does not work for extended periods of time in Sydney CBD. Data does not work in SYD CBD. Called Vodafone and after an hour on the phone they told me to call Apple as it could be my Iphone. Needles to say this is total rubish.

Vodafail stuffed up my billings and kept charging my credit card for overdue fees that kept rolling over - even though the bill is directly debited and i always had adequate funds. When i inquired in person, i was told that it related to the billing cycle. When i asked for it to be ectified i eventually got YELLED AT by a female worker in the Macarthur Square branch, in front of other customers. I said that i was going to make a formal complaint. After the complaint, i heard no response. Finally when i rang to end my service with them, they apologised and gave my free $50 credit so that i stay with them. I am now with OPTUS and have not looked back. Much better customer service and better reception. Vodafone is a big bbig customer failure. GO TO THE TIO. Itll make them loose control of their bowels over in the call centre in India.

Had a 3 broadband stick for data when travelling but kept being hit with massive roaming data charges. So while sill in contract, got a new Voda mobile broadband sick as Voda coverage extends regionally. Or so we were led to believe. Since getting it on 27/09/2010, we have not been able to get it to work. Tried multiple computers, it fails. Call Vodafone, on hold for 2 hours before being answered. Told we had to call back next day. Next day on hold for 2 hours. Told it was not activated by the sales person. They activate it, it worked - for the day. Next day it didn't work. Called and on hold for 2 hours again. Re-Activated it again. Next day didn't work again. Repeat above story each time we travelled for the past 3 months.

1781 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is I had a similar problem this time last year at 27 Dec 2010 09:48:03 AM
I lost my mobile BB network in the Byron Bay area this time last year - this was after a software update that took most of the east coast off line for 3 days - but service did not return to my area. Each time I rang it seemed they were using a 'random excuse generator'. After about 4 weeks they told me they would refund my modem and pre-paid spent. But that wasn't the point, it took me 2 weeks of research to determine that VF were the best value for my location. So I contacted the ombudsman. The Ombudsman determined that if they had supplied me with a service for the previous 6 weeks they had no right to now remove the service. Eventually, after 6 weeks my BB was finally returned.
Why do they do these upgrades just before Christmas - surely the busiest time of the year? Why is the call centre no able to directly communicate with the technical teams? If the real problem is overloading at certain times of the year, don't they boost the service during these time?

Vodafone took two weeks to port my number and after several phone calls to them finally got some action. I even had one guy hang up on my when I let him know about how unhappy I was. I have been using the network for around 3 weeks and have not been able to run my business from my iphone due to lack of reception, call drop outs & inability to load maps for directions to client's homes. Very frustrated to read about ongoing problems that were known when I signed up. I am so annoyed as I have now just had a client call drop out 3 times. How bad does that make me look as a business owner??
1778 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is terrible at 27 Dec 2010 09:43:01 AM
Well we are the lucky one's...we were able to get out of our contract. The way we did it is to take their advice. The call centre said to get a technician out to test the service (we had really bad reception at our house in Randwick). They never turned up and after a few follow up calls to vodafone, they finally agreed to let us out of our contract. This took a fair few phone calls, but finally we got out of our contract, without having to pay any early termination fees. We have been with vodafone for about 6 plus years, but the last 6 plus months, the reception has been terrible, the call centre takes a minimum of 40 minutes to get through, and voicemail turns up days after the messages were left. Vodafone did try to bill us an early termination fee on our last bill the cheeky ba$tards, but again we rang them up and got into them, and eventually they agred and reversed the charge.
27 Dec 2010 09:51:06 AM: Me again, but I just wanted to add there is no silver bullet, by getting out of Vodafone and moving to a better telco...we transferred our internet, home phone, foxtel and two iPhone 4's to Telstra, and Telstra were hopeless. The problem is they have the best network. We ended up with $855 of credits, due to the terrible service. It was if when you rang their call centre, as soon as you got of the phone, they would delete all records of any conversation or set-up on their systems they did. They also sent us an extra iPhone 4, which I am just about to sell on eBay...thanks Telstra!!! ACCC you must be given more powers to monitor all telco's as they are all hopeless.

I use a Vodaphone mobile usb for internet access when I am away from my home office in Sydney (not Vodaphone). When I am Copacabana on the NSW Central Coast it is pot luck if I can get a connection.Sometimes I can go for hours at time with no connection. Makes working away from the office very difficult. I have rung and they have advised a technician has been to my location and the reception is fine. That is true but it would be more correct to add the words "sometimes". After my contract expires I am out of here.
1772 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is No 3G access, call dropouts etc for months at 27 Dec 2010 09:39:07 AM
I have actually being having serious network issues with Vodafone since June this year. This included,
- not being able to make calls
- entire network out for mins and sometimes up to an hour (ie no reception of any type)
- slow to non-existent data services
- SMS that were either not delivered or delivered over 24 hours late
I live in Newtown within 5km of the Sydney CBD and my house is actually 100metres from the telephone exchange, I have direct line of sight to a Vodafone mobile phone tower.
When I complained in June I was told it was a problem with my handset and went through the whole isolation test. I knew this was nit the problem because,
- I swapped SIM into another handset and had same problems
- my partner is also with Vodafone and was having same problems
- I was unable to call friends living in same area who were on Vodafone
After explaining all this to a Vodafone CSR I was finally given an explanation by Vodafone. The Newtown tower was being 'upgraded' which will take a few months so please 'switch your phone back to 2G until the work is complete'.
The biggest issue by far has been the lack of communication from Vodafone. No letter or email to explain what I was told over the phone, no date letting me know when services would be back to normal, nothing.
In short the access to the network didn't improve and by November I had actually found myself working around the Vodaphone problems by,
- switching my mobile back to 2G
- borrowing my neighbors mobile to make calls who was not with Vodafone
- buying a 3G data card and connecting it to a laptop using another Telco's 3G network
I primarily use my phone for business and have been on a business plan for 5 years. The inconvenience has impacted on my ability to work and I will be joining the class action to seek damages and compensation.
Four weeks ago I swapped over to another network after being on hold to Vodafone for over 2 hours. It actually took less than 30mins to swap to the other network.
I don't think Vodafone still understands how pissed off people are about this. When I complained in writing to Vodafone they denied the problems and said they won't be letting me out of my contract.
Letting me out of my contract is the least of their problems, I would have assumed losing our business, we have 5 contracts with Vodafone and have spent over 10k in the last 3 years was a bigger issue for them.

Finally had enough it took a month 9 phone calls and a total of 3hrs on the phone to incompetent vodafail customer no-service staff to get them to rescind a contract that I didn't even sign up for... Apparently it was my fault for not noticing it was on my bill ! Still only got them to repay half the money I was owed as I couldn't afford to waste any more time arguing with them ! I thought I was alone - but after reading these complaints I realise it is sub standard service I am receiving with Vodafone. I can be sitting right next to the phone it doesn't ring - will get a message sometime later (sometimes don't even get the messages) - poor service where I live (sydney metro) - absolute crap customer service - had to go to the telecommunications ombudsmen three months into the contract. Now it seems my phone bill is creeping up in $$$ every month - I am a low usage user and have maintained $29 average per month for around 5 years - now my bills are creeping up to $60 per month - can see they obviously want me to take up their "unlimited" plans. No happy Jan!!!

So, I find myself turning my phone off and on again throughout the day, just to make sure. Crazy stuff.

Some days i can make up to 500 calls a day testing for drops, data ect and on some days i get 85% - 90% call failures. Most of the issues started when they switched on the EDGE network and then when they joined with 3. When testing the other 2 carriers they have good quality and not the same issues i have been seeing with Vodafail. Unfortunately i cannot swap from Vodafail and i do hope they fix the issues soon.

Working in real estate, calls frequently dropping out when talking with clients. Often I have to call back enquiries from a landline because the reception is poor, this is never convenient in the field. I am also told by many clients that incoming calls aren't going through to my phone, as if my phone were switched off.
The speed for data is a joke. This is the only reason my iPad is with Telstra and not Vodafail. Loading webpages with both devices(iPad, iPhone 4) side by side in both the CBD and the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney further emphasises the sub-par coverage issues Voda is experiencing.
If I had known earlier I would have signed with Telstra. (The price premium for their product was the initial deterrent, now it seems it is well justified.) I'm sick and tired of talking to 1555's Lara. I'm beginning to think ill just have to sit this contract out. Vodafone....never again.

This time last year I was with Vodafone. I was in Tasmania and could not make a call from north Hobart to Sydney without the call constantly dropping out. My friend was with Telstra and could receive calls even in the middle of Freycinet national park. Then I went to Malaysia for work and could not connect to Vodafone's partner services properly. My colleagues had no trouble with Telstra. This year I switched to Telstra and have had no coverage or service network problems since ... but Telstra is painfully expensive. Australians simply don't have a choice where Telcos are concerned.

As 3 is now part of Vodafone the ACCC should take that side of the business into consideration.
You try getting a connection to 3 in the CBD or staying on 3 and not roaming to Telstra to pay roaming data charges.
3 is a bigger failure than vodaprone and they are the same company.

MY ISSUES (MAYBE NOT AS SERIOUS AS SOME HERE BUT ENOUGH TO PISS ME OFF!)
- I recently went to renew my contract (dont know why i bothered), I called to Vodafone to ask wheather I can 3 months before it was due to end) I was told yes.
I wanted the iphone4 on the 99 unlimited plan. Was told that I can go ahead and sign up now but there is a 3 weeks waiting period becuase iphone 4 out of stock.
My brother who also had renewed his wifes contract to the Iphone 4, 3 days earlier was told same story out of stock, He inquired weather he can join the contact over the phone and pick up an Iphone 4 from a store, he was told "YES". He eventuallyh went to Rockdale All Phones, on presenattion of his details picked teh phone up and didnt have to wait 3 weeks.
Upon being told that this was possible by my brother I made a call to Vodafone customer care and enquired if this was possible. I was told No, by a call centre personel in India. Line quality was very bad mind you. I then asked about my contract and was told NO i must wait till the end of the 24 month period. I was then transferred to another department only to be faced with a prerecoded message that this department is closed for the day and to call back. WASTED 1 hour on the phone, including waiting period, to have a 5 minute conversation.
I rang the next day, India again and waited on the phone for 40 minutes, Was told I cant renew my contract because crrently im on a business plan. And you cant switch from business plan to personal.
I explained to vodafone personnel that whilst the name of the plan relates to a business, it is still a personal plan and I am not on a business plan as such. This was recognised and then transferred back to another department to someone in Aus, thank god!
She looked into my case, told me there are no issues and I can go ahead, transferred me to renewals, waited another 20 minutes, I asked If i can pick up the phone from a store and I was told NO. I cannot, I must sign up at the store.
I explained what my brother did and was told that was not possible. Then I just gave up. Hopeless, no one seems to know anything...they all need re-training....im sure some are very good, majority just dont know and dont care.

I am with 3 which is now owned by Vodafail/Hutchinson. My service is absolutely OUTSTANDING and I have no complaints other than that I must climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge, face east, hop on one leg for 10 minutes, eat a chocolate donut, send and receive thought messages to Star Trek enterprise space station, pick my nose, rub my tummy and slap my butt at the same time each time I need to make a call.

1727 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Average at 27 Dec 2010 08:52:01 AM
Call drop out and bad coverage contrary to staff advice is main gripe. Calls drop out at several locations around Sydney. Entering Syd Harbour Tunnel from north side, then exiting at East Distributor, New South Head Road at Vaucluse and Watsons Bay, both at the bottom and also up the hill along the ridge. Other unexplainable drop out around other areas. Just not good enough. My work phone with Telstra beats it everywhere but is more expensive. In Vodafone defence I have had no problems with customer service. Steve
1725 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Not too "fail" at 27 Dec 2010 08:50:53 AM
Hi. I have been a mobile phone customer of Vodafone since 1995 and overall I have not experienced any issues to mention. I have a "black spot" in my lounge on the Lower North Shore in Sydney but my lounge is a problem for all networks not just Vodafone. I don't use a mobile internet connection but do use data on my Vodafone Blackberry. Only one month did I have data issues on my Blackberry which caused me to overrun my cap and I was hit with charges which upon query Vodafone promptly credited back.
My home internet is a wireless setup with another carrier so I can't comment on that.
I really hope all of you experiencing problems do get resolution soon. We all depend on mobile coverage so much.

1723 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is amateur and arrogant at 27 Dec 2010 08:47:04 AM
I had a Vodafone Broadband service. For five months or so it as pretty good and I chose to go onto a long term plan. Thats when the problems started - try 27 hours for an i tunes update download or buffering 16 times during a 30second song trial. The cost on my non vodafail mobile to continually call Customer Help was a big cost to me. Each time I woild be told a different reason for the problem. On one occassion they supplied me a new modem which was not compatible with Vista - in 2010 believe it or not. They told me to download a software update, but with no connection I asked how and the moron suggested I go to a public library!!! In the end after months of being told the 'network was being updated' I contacted the TIO, who gave me a number for Vodafail in Australia and a group of people based in Hobart whose only job is to deal with complaints made to the TIO. Very shortly after Vodafail refunded all my money and cancelled my contract. I suggest everyone with a Vodafail problem do the same.
1722 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Changing from prepaid to plan big mistake at 27 Dec 2010 08:45:46 AM
On trying to change from prepaid to plan via customer service, I spent (no exaggeration) at least 10 hours on the phone to vodafone to the past week. One of which was and 2hr 11 min call which ended on me being hung up on (accidentally or not) by the service.
I wanted to keep my same number, they sent me out a sim card which i put in my phone. They cancelled my prepaid simcard, but once I had put this new sim card in my phone I realised it was not my number, and furthermore I was unable to receive calls or texts on it! This was ongoing for over 2 days, being unable to be contacted. I rang on numerous occasions, each time having to repeat myself, to no avail. They would say 'we have fixed for you', but then nothing would happen!
Finally it worked. But now the internet on my phone isn't working. I have rung them no less than 3 times on this issue, with no improvement. My internet still doesn't work.
I am SICK of sitting on hold and talking to dip shits on the other line who seem to just LIE to get you off the line.
Worst idea ever, changing from prepay to postpay, if you are thinking of it, DON'T do it, it is not worth the pain.

27 Dec 2010 09:14:19 AM: Check the settings on your phone. On some handsets you actually need to go and switch on data in the set up or connections menu - it's not something that the customer service people can do for you once it is activated on your plan. Also check and ensure that you have 2G and 3G activated so that you can use your phone in a variety of areas.
1721 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Very at 27 Dec 2010 08:45:41 AM
As others have said, this is just silly.. I'm on holidays right now and I have to use my sisters phone (Telstra provider) because I can't get signal half the time with mine, I'm only in Queensland for gods sake (NSW resident).
Even in NSW there can be days where despite restarting my phone multiple times I will receive the 'no service' message, other times calls will simply fail or drop out..
I've basically had to get used to the fact that the only way I can communicate with anyone is by SMS, even that seems to mess up too often now though.
I'm getting out of my contract with these pricks asap

Hi. I am really sorry to hear so many people are having such dire problems with Vodafone. I have been a customer of Vodafone since 1995 and have been happy. I live on the lower North Shore in Sydney and have a problem spot in my lounge but this is the case for all carriers. I use Optus for work and have many more problems with their over-subscribed network.
I wish everyone well and hope that Vodafone does take your complaints seriously and deals with it very soon.

None now ( but maybe in the future after the buyout) ..My contract ended and I changed to 3. Before I left Vodafone I requested the following note be placed on my file: " If at the end of my contract I re-sign with Vodafone, please have someone come around to my house with a shotgun and blow my head off." " Why would we do that?" was the agent's comment . " Because I'd have to be out of my f***ing mind and I wouldn't want to be alive!!"

In the city a friend tried to ring me several times and it rang out with no voicemail. I had my phone on the whole time. Several friends have experienced this with my phone. I needed to speak to a work colleague prior to an important meeting but the same thing happened.
Also my phone coverage is next to nothing more often than not. Calls drop out I'd say more than 50% of the time.

1716 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Dropouts and help service at 27 Dec 2010 08:43:30 AM
I allways thought my problem were my fault!
I have two accounts with Vodafone which I've had for some years and I have certainly experienced many of the probems mentioned by others, but I have always assumed that my problems were the result of my error, errors on the part of the caller or called number or just general shortfalls in the technology.
I frequently experience dropouts, in fact about every third call drops out. But I have assumed that either I or my call partner was holding the phone wrong and or pressing a key during the call. I have assumed that this is easy with touch screen phones.
I have had so many calls that drop out as soon as they are answered that we have joked about the service provider initiating the dropouts to generate more revenue through redialed calls. It's a standing joke among my closer friends who have experienced this the most. It doesn't seem to matter which handset I'm using, the problem remains the same.
And I too have had so much difficulty trying to log on to my Vodafone account that I have stopped using it. Actually there may be some benefit here, because I've begun to compile a book of handy password using the ones Vodafone has issued me with when I contact them. The only dely in publishing is that I need just one more password, but I can't get on to Vodafone to get it.
I'm both amazed to see that others have experienced similar problems, and appalled to see the extent that a company is able to fail in it's obligations without any overseeing authority pulling it into line.

1714 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Should be renamed to VodaFlop at 27 Dec 2010 08:40:53 AM
I too have been a Vodafone customer almost since its arrival on the comms market in Australia. I have both a mobile phone (iPhone 3GS) and a mobile broadband contract. If possible, I would like to get out of both.
On the phone side of things, I get constant call drop outs and most annoyingly the "dud" tone when the network cannot make a call. And when it can make a call, there is usually a long silence while the connection is made. I too am forced to use the GSM network, but still have connection issues.
On the boradband side of things, their softweare is unreliable. I often have to go into (Win7) Device Manager to remove extraneous USB controllers which causees RAS errors and hence no connection. Once connected, there are numerous dropouts, not to mention extremely poor download speeds.
On the support front, I refuse to talk to offshore support people as they are trained only to read scripts without listening to your issues. And I am still waiting for Vodafone to contact me after attempting to have one of my issues escalated.
Who do I turn to to get a service that I am willing to pay for?

27 Dec 2010 09:36:18 AM: Contact the Ombudsman and/or Department of Fair Trading - handsets and services legally have to be "fit for purpose". There is very good advice above on what you can do - record everything from the problems (times & dates) as well as the attempts you have made to get a solution. Legally they are not upholding their part of your contract if the service and/or handset are not working!
1713 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is not good enough at 27 Dec 2010 08:40:34 AM
I signed up with Vodafone nearly 2 years ago.... was assured at the time it would give excellent coverage. Not even remotely true. I travel a lot out of Sydney for family and work. My partner's phone (Telstra) has to be relied on. When he's not with me on work trips I have to let people know I'll be 'off the air' for slabs of time because I'm on Vodafone. This is not what I expected, or was told, when I signed up at Vodafone in Neutral Bay. To add insult to injury, the signal in my home (in Balmain) fluctuates widely and it can be hard to get (and keep!) a signal in the house.
27 Dec 2010 09:03:40 AM: Forgot to mention: it always, always dropps out just after rounding the bend after the Anzac Bridge heading to the city from the inner west. On a recent trip to Qld the Pacific Hwy had either no coverage, or (occasionally) one tenuous signal bar, all the way other than the main towns. Trips to western NSW - to Parkes and Forbes and so on - similarly have very few coverage areas. This is lousy for the State-wide work I do. Vodafone really is (currently) only a Sydney metropolitan service - but even there it's not nearly good enough....
1712 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is No signal and no Internet at 27 Dec 2010 08:40:24 AM
My phone has been losing signal and I have to reboot it a few times. But the worst wasn't that. I've got the USB to connect to Internet and it took me almost an hour to connect for the first time. I am lucky to be online at the moment as I don't know how long is going to last. I am in Neutral Bay and I never had this problem before.
I received my sms one hour later and some calls go straight to the voicemail and I am sitting next to my phone... This has been happening before Xmas day until now...

I was put across to Vodafone by my work as part of the firm's plan. I live in Harrington Park and get NO reception at home. On the train home it drops out over huge distances. I am constantly having to reset my network when I can see a mobile phone tower and yet have "No Service" coming up on my phone. I regularly lose calls. This is undoubtedly the worse reception I have ever had. Damn that's a big whinge but completely on the mark. I would cancel my contract today if it wasn't linked to my job's plan.

Hi After being with vodafone for 4 years and being on the business plan, I couldn't make calls, custmers struggled to call me, after changing my phone and sim contacted the network many times they finally gave me over $800 credit on my account. Great but still my phone would be better if my phone worked and stopped dropping out!!! Truth is vodafone used to be great but the last 6 months the service has been very poor and frustrating and has lost me money. They did offer me to end my contract but I hope the service just picks up again!!

Phone reception is usless in Lane Cove. Calls drop out at least once every two minutes, it takes several attempts to send a text message, usually it says there is no reception and that the message hasn't sent, so I resend and it ends up being sent multiple times. Data is a joke, takes 5 minutes to load a page. Mobile internet USB is the same.

Have spent countless hours contacting and sometimes speaking with call centre but no fix. The call centre said they had escalated my problem and would be contacted by a specialist but this never happend. I have been into my local vodafone store, they could not resolve the issue and also said they had escalated the problem and I have to be contacted within 48 hours, no one has contacted me. It's a complete joke. I need email on my phones to run my businesses.

Sent to SMH - There is another area of Vodaphone's activity that needs looking at and that is the use of its name overseas. So far as we could ascertain from questions asked in Malta the company effectively franchises its name to independent overseas companies without any supervision.
Trusting the name "Vodaphone", we entered into phone plans in Sicily with Vodaphone Italia. The service varied from appalling to non existent - Credits just disappeared and no-one including the local "Tobacchis" could sort anything out. One "Tobacchi" spent nearly an hour on the phone to them, so it wasn't just a "language difficulty"
Appealing to the English speaking Vodaphone Agencies outside of Italia was useless. They had no proper technical or managerial relationship that could help. We were left with the impression that overseas persons using Vodaphone's Italian network were at the mercy of very questionable business practices.
This abuse of a company's own name via unsupervised trade name franchising is surely "unfair trading". We specifically emailed Vodaphone in Australia (using Wifi in MacDonalds) and asked if at the very least they would communicate fully with their colleagues in Italy - to no apparent avail. Indeed when it seemed too complicated it appears they just dropped us.
As to what the franchise status of the Australian company using the name is - I didn't ask. All we ever wanted was reliable iphone and ipad services. We got practically nothing, however much we "recharged" our accounts in Sicily
I would never use a company with Vodaphone's trade mark name again - not Italy - not Australia -anywhere!
