26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

16461 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Mostly, but not entirely at 29 Mar 2011 05:59:39 PM
Call reception is awesome, I've never dropped a call or had a late sms.

However - I can honestly say that in the 6 months i've been with voda, I have not been able to access the 3G part of the network. What is the point of having a smartphone if I can't use the internet or look at emails...?

Since last Friday, 25 March 2011, my Vodafone mobile broadband in North Sydney, postcode 2060 has been pretty much non-existent and is still down today, 29 March. Loads of phone calls to Vodafone and they've told me yes the network went down last Friday, momentarily there are glimmers of hope, "their network people don't work weekends !! "- unbelievable for a technology company. Simply put no end in site and I understand many adjacent areas of Sydney and NSW are all affected by this issue. I get extended days and more MB but what use is that when there is no network and no end in site to the problem !!!!!!!!!!

16451 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Extreme fail in Macleod, VIC and also on the train to Melbourne City at 28 Mar 2011 11:01:38 PM
Unbelievably poor reception in Macleod, VIC, even though the web-site mentions perfectly fine reception (http://www.vodafone.com.au/tools/checker/index.htm) around the region.

I'm personally lucky if I get one or two bars of reception from the front bedroom, whilst my wife is able to get one or two bars of reception from the kitchen.

Apparently, coverage is also meant to be good all of the way into the city of Melbourne, but reception drops out completely whilst on the train at areas of Eaglemont, Ivanhoe and Jolimont (in particular).

Obviously, a severe breach of contract and will be looking into ways to cease this contract and transfer to a reliable service network. Very disappointing.....

Highest regards,
Steve.

Since moving from mornington to frankston two weeks ago the reception on my mobile and broadband is practically non-existent.i rely on both to keep in touch with my family here and in the UK.Continual dropout,.no service etc at all times of the day and night.I was assured by the salesman in mornington when I bought my contract that moving to frankston would not affect the reception and yet when I rang the customer service I was told that yes, Frankston is a bad area and I should be able to get out of my contract.I haven't heard from them for a week now but I will not be silent. I am a retired teacher, living alone andI need my internet!!!

16436 Someone from TAS thinks vodafone is Mammoth! at 28 Mar 2011 12:21:51 PM
I was a 3 customer, who called them to change my rate plan. They referred me to vodafone to get a better deal as they are the same company now. Huge Mistake! Took them 1 month to activate my SIM! Ever since I have had problems trying to sort out being put on a 24 month contract when I was on no contract with 3 and have my own handset. Who in their right mind would want a 24month contract when they have their own handset! Trying to sort that out at the moment. Have had issues with them not being effective in activating my services, so I have had to call seperatley for call waiting, voicemail, no of rings on my phone, all things that should be dealt with at the time of connection. I called them today, as I have no coverage on my phone, called from a landline and GOT DISCONNECTED! Normally when I call on my mobile, I can accept that but calling on a LANDLINE AND GET DISCONNECTED???? Their service is atrocious. Not to mention I had a shitty wireless modem with them for 2yrs in contract, thank god that ran out, the coverage was shocking, and the billing, I had to monitor and record month to month, as at times, I would receive bills in excess of $500 for one month, luckily I took print screens from my document that proved the increase in GB usage from one day to the next, which was a discrepancy of about 30gb, when my plan was for justr5 at the time. They suck, anyone thinking of using their service, save your pain. Last week I was actually in tears emotionally wrecked from the grief I have had in trying to sort it all out. I have been ringing 3 to get them to sort for me as they led me to that path. They gave me the name of a supervisor who called me saturday to say that I needed to call the welcome team to sort out the 24month contract issue. Am dumbfounded that I keep getting to the front of the queue in terms of resolving this. Today I awake to no service on my handset, so can't sort out the other issue until this is resolved. IT IS EXHAUSTING!
28 Mar 2011 01:07:19 PM: Called to discuss, got billing who said their transfer system down had to call back, got thru to tech support, went thru process, unresolved, still no coverage, spent 30mins on phone and got cut off again (on landline) purely crap service!!! And my mammoth comment above means their lack of service is MAMMOTH!

28 Mar 2011 03:39:47 PM: I might add that I have called to be told supervisors would ring back, probably about 6 times and no one rings. On hold now to sort out the 24month contract issue. Am ringing so much that I have today got the same guy I spoke to last friday ahahha what a joke! He told me there are connection issues today as their call centre hasn't had any calls for two hours lol And... I just got cut off again! :-(((((
28 Mar 2011 03:55:09 PM: PS to the Vodafail team, thanks for giving me an OUTLET!! xx
31 Mar 2011 11:15:44 PM: No worries at all, we hope you get your vodafone troubles sorted. TIO is definitely the place, they will start fining vodafone if they don't solve your problem quickly.

Only Vodafone could manage to lock my iPhone to their network, without keeping any record of said iPhone. So, my number was ported to Telstra this morning but my handset remains stuck with Vodafone and it's going to take at least 5 working days to fix it... 5 working days by Vodafone standards means a month too, by the way. How? How can they be so incompetent? I'm just trying to LEAVE FOREVER and they even find a way to stuff that up for me!
29 Mar 2011 08:08:09 PM: FYI all iPhones are lock to their respective network, learn then complain
1 Apr 2011 09:17:00 AM: did you read the part where they said vodafone don't have any record of said iPhone? Learn to read, then comment.

Vodafone seems to have serious troubles providing reception, at all.
Over the past 6 months I can't tell you how many times I've had no reception, its lasted hours, even over night sometimes.
I can't make or receive calls or texts.
Is it really that hard vodafone, everyone else seems to manage, right?

I signed up for a $29 cap last year with a HTC Magic. They told me it could do Exchange email but it couldn't. Then they pushed out an update to Android 2.2 after 6 months which allowed me to use email but the phone lags so bad, it takes forever to even type a message. I asked them to cancel my old plan and give me a new one.
After 2 hours on the phone with customer service, they let me cancel the old one for $350 and put me on a new contract with a new phone. I only hope reception and network speeds will get better..

I signed up in January and double checked with a rep and the internet that I could get coverage in a town called Whyalla. I have had 2 months of horrible coverage: sms, mms failure, phone calls cut out, people can't hear me, no internet usage available and they won't end my contract because they need to do an "investigation into the problem because no one else has had any issues" Yeah right! They can't tell me how long that will take and they will only let me cancel if I pay the 1000+ cancellation fee, which they will kindly reduce by 50%. Rubbish!!

2x iphones 3gs zero reception in own home. Limited reception Darwin and Zero reception surrounding areas. Delays in receiving SMS up to 4 hours in some cases. Contract due to end in 4mths. Told to wait till end March upgrading system. Nothing has changed. What can you offer to convince us to stay
Then to make matters worse we tried to talk to customer service and waited over an hour and still didnt speak to anyone.
14 May 2011 11:55:24 PM: many of the older houses in Darwin have little or no reception in them with most phone companies this is due to the concrete bunker design of many of the houses built in the years after cyclone tracy. and believe it or not i just got back to Darwin from Brisbane i live in Tiwi and there is better reception in darwin on a whole than brisbane or the sunshie coast.... at least in darwin city i have 3 bars of 3G in Brisbane i was lucky to have 1. and dont even get me started on when i went up the sunshie cost... no signal at all anywhere.

Can't sort out my service issues (unusable slow data, inconsistent reception and call drop outs) cause tech team says nothing is wrong... even though i have screenshot evidence which they don't take into account... only their own investigation. Basically vodafone customer service thinks I'm full of s*** cause tech team investigation says nothing is wrong... and no point trying to argue with tech team guys... they are always right! Been getting ripped off for months and they want me to pay cancellation fees to get out of the contract. I've had enough... I just hope I can resolve matter by going through ombudsman and or ACCC.

16413 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is FAIL FAIL FAIL at 24 Mar 2011 08:56:46 PM
I've had no coverage the entire day. There's no announcement on their website apologising for the inconvenience and there probably won't be. I'd rather pay out my contract and give Vodafail the finger.
I've emailed their "contact us" address which gave me an immediate automated answer (crap) which didn't even relate to my problem. So I've asked for an answer ASAP ... won't hold my breath.
25 Mar 2011 06:21:21 PM: I called VOdafone today to complain about all the network issues i've been experiencing over the last few months. They have offered me three months at half-price on my current cap plan to make up for all the inconvenience and said that if i'm still not happy with the service I can cancel my contract without penalty. I contacted complaints department first who then put me through to another department which offered me the half price contract i mentioned above. Try that and see how you go. And make sure they don't charge you any penalties for early contract cancellation!! Good luck.

16411 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Taking the piss at 24 Mar 2011 11:33:11 AM
Vodafone changed the cap plans in July last year and they are available to all customers - if you know about it, and if you know they are available to all customers.
Was told that it would be too hard to tell customers...
Since I am two days past my billing date, my change can of course only be made in a month...
Just complained and spoke to an ultra rude staff person (who i could barely understand). I was told that my complaint would be put in my account notes...wicked.
I was going to complain about the fact that i don't get internet, and often don't get mobile coverage in Bondi, but there is no point. Vodafone just sucks, plain and simple...every little aspect of vodafone can derilict my balls.
Never again.

24 Mar 2011 08:59:27 PM: OMG 3 days! I've just got through day 1 without service. Looking forward to going back to Telstra - don't care that I'll be paying more at least it's damn good service.
27 Mar 2011 10:09:49 AM: You won't be paying more with Bastards Inc. (I mean Telstra). THey have great new prepaid plans which piss all over anything that Vodafail have (and no, I don't work for any Telco).

16403 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Unbeleivable at 23 Mar 2011 05:11:10 PM
So the network is still down totally out here, at least they have come clean and added to the network fail site http://vodafone.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail_network/a_id/3730 the 3rd one in QLD.

My daughter managed to miss the bus this afternoon from school, she's 15 and couldn't fight her way out of a wet paper bag, but she wasn't able to contact any of us thanks to the network being down, so had to walk 2 klms home, flashes of Daniel Morcombe went through my head. So I just called Vodafail and said that's it, last straw, if I wake up in the morning and the network is still down I want to cancel the contract at no cost which they agreed to.

So they have 15 hours to get it going or I'm out, I'm not having my kids put in bad situations.

BTW, they were adamant that I couldn't speak to anyone in Vodafone Australia which I find incredible.
23 Mar 2011 05:12:02 PM: Sorry, forgot to change the state from ACT to QLD
23 Mar 2011 05:23:01 PM: Would also like to add, I have been with Vodafone since 1991, ie 20 years. I always liked their service until a few years ago when all the dropouts ans missed calls started happening. I suspect it was the advent of 3G when the rot set in, it was a poorly rolled out network. I will say the gent from the cancellations team was very well spoken, sympathetic and apologetic. Kudos to him, pity his employers couldn't help him.... If Vodafone Australia are reading this and want to contact me the cancellation account number is 213260618.

30 Mar 2011 12:12:23 AM: i live in carramar, and i have also been on the phone to vodafone. They launched a week long investigation into my coverage problems and said that there are no problems with coverage in carramar. Whenever i come home from a day out, i have to manually switch my network selection from "Dual" to "GSM" otherwise i cannot make/recieve calls and txt. The bad thing is that the mobile internet is soooo slow on "GSM". For those of you that are reading and dont know how close Banksia Grove and Carramar are, they're less than 1 min apart. Just goes to show that Vodafone really needs to sort out their shit in the Perth North Metro suburbs, especially with the increase of residential development!

16393 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is progressively worse to the point of madness at 23 Mar 2011 12:49:55 PM
Melbourne CBD/Collins Street. Data drops out constantly (mobile broadband/Huawei dongle) especially when on HSDPA. After a few minutes connection, HSDPA usually shows 0 bps download and hangs. This happens day and night. The past 3 weeks its gotten worse. Constantly switches back and forth between 3G and HSDPA.

Unreliable coverage in the heart of one of Australia's largest cities. This is MELBOURNE CBD folks, not the back blocks.

I have held my tongue for the past few months, knowing that Vodafone was attempting to resolve these much publicised failures, but now I am about ready to go atomic.

This is absolutely unacceptable and a breach of its service contract. If Vodafone cannot deliver a workable service they are not entitled to market it.

I brought with me an iPhone 3GS from Ireland to Australia as part of my migration. Initially the speeds were great out near Casula and Liverpool about 4 months ago. Since returning to Australia in late February, I've been beset with awful data speeds, (<0.20 Mbps) and constant timeouts and connection failures, not to mention the frustration of dropped calls and texts arriving hours late.

Managed to get the iPhone unlocked by contacting Vodafone Ireland, who are actually incredibly reliable, very pleasant and have the best network in the country. Cannot believe the Vodafone brand is so awful here. Porting to Telstra as soon as I use up my credit. (Not data; that would take years)

I live inb Samford Village north west of Brisbane. There is only one transmitter here and it has been down now for 24 hours. I rang them to report it yesterday morning and to see whats happening last night, they said it would be up at 7 this morning, well guess what, it isn't!! Now I work from here, so today I'm faced with having to get in the car and drive over the hill to Ferny Grove to get reception. Don't know if you are aware but it is going to be 30+ degrees ie really hot, so do I have to swelter in the park in the car to carry out business?

NOT FREAKING HAPPY!!!
23 Mar 2011 10:58:15 PM: They told me on the phone 23 March it was due to upgrading and we would have no reception for up o 3 months. I checked the website and it says it is an unforeseen issue NOT an upgrade. I have been offered 3 months at %50 discount. 3 mobile is also affected.

This is the same with my phone. All it shows is half a set of bars in HSPDA mode. Locked into my contract on an iphone with vodafone a year ago! as all iphone users know, data download is a very important necesity with almost all iphone apps and im sure its the same with other smart phones! when i first purchased my iphone through vodaphone my data download speed was amazing! facebook, safari, google maps and all other apps were fantastic and all loaded within a couple of seconds! then! sometime around november 2010 my data speeds sunk to incredible lows! facebook takes about 5 min to load status updates from other users! 5 MIN!!!!! its probably not even 100bytes of data and it takes incredibly long! something that used to take all of 2 seconds!!! Most of the time facebook and other relevant apps time out saying lost connection with server! obviously vodafone have cut there network range or hardware somewhere along the line to save costs! its been slow and getting worse ever since! it makes having an iphone completly usless!!! its time for vodafone to get there sh*t back together or let me outa my contract!! i pay 80 a month and get 1g of download! i recon if i kept my phone on constant download it wouldnt even be able to download a gig worth of data in a month its that slow! so how does this seem fair? iv tried ringing through to vodafone customer support but they just blow it off to an overload on the server at the time (too many people on vodafones servers at once) well how about u upgrade ur network and pay for the extra network coverage and demand so we as consumers who pay get what we are rightfuly paying for! i must admit some days vodafone service drives me over the edge! and it seems everyone of my family and friends with vodafone is copping the same treatment! everytime i see a vodafone add i cringe with anger! and often tell people do not make the same mistake i have and contract with vodafone! its unfair that someone should be locked into something that they are not fully recieving! add to this data problem the constant no service and friend calls that amazingling neva ring or eventuate, the txts not recieved and then the txts recieved all at once!! not to mention customer credit card details and information leaked! the only thing vodafone hasnt failed in and the only txt i always recieve is the txt saying my vodafone email bill has arrived please pay promtly! vodafone is byfar the worst telecomunications network on the planet... I signed up on a business plan with 3 handsets which were to be used by sales reps travelling throughout Queensland. Over the past week I have been informed by both current business clients and new that they are leaving myself and team voicemails with return call. This would be because WE DON'T GET the voicemail and we don't get the missed call.

I dread to think how many clients I have lost due to the bad phone reception. After speaking with 5 vodaphone "customer relations staff" who wanted to know the location at which I was having the problem I advised them, how do I know the location if I don't know they're calling?! They gave me the usual story about how they are improving - by that stage I won't have a business so it wont matter!

It gets worse...

I have just now walked out of a VODAPHONE "service centre" due to my Iphone not working. I require a new handset but due to Vodaphone having no record that my Iphone was issued by them I couldn't receive it. After waiting an hour and now being told they can't help me(they couldn't even call to check), I have again sat on the phone, been transferred to 5 people to try and do their job for them by matching my plans with headsets that they issued.

I am astonished at the lack of customer service and will never sign another contract with them.

Been a Vodafone customer happily for years. Moved from Melbourne to Toowoomba, knowing that Vodafone website advertises full coverage in Toowoomba.

Coverage was very poor, had to go outside to talk etc. Even when I had coverage calls would go directly to voicemail. As an on-call doctor, this was clearly not good enough.

Went to the Vodafone store, which is in Toowoomba. They sold me a case for my handset, saying the coverage would then be better. It wasn't.

Rang to cancel my contract, they insisted I speak to technical support. After an infuriating twenty minutes, they said there was nothing more that they could do. Therefore, I signed up on a new plan with Telstra, and rang Vodafone to tell them. They stated that because I didn't contact them first (which I did, both at the store and by phone), my cancellation bill would be $1026. As a "gesture of goodwill" they have reduced this to $776. Pointing out that it is in fact Vodafone that have breached the contract by not providing the service that is advertised fell on deaf ears.

Will await reply from the ombudsman. If no luck there, how can I join the class action?

Just got off the phone after 45 minutes with tech support.
The Problem: phone wont make or receive calls for the past 24 hrs so it has stopped functioning as a phone.
The Phone: HTC HD Desire
After restarting, removing sim, replacing sim, dialing numbers, dialing special numbers, being put on hold to reset some settings. No luck still wont work.
Tech guy asks me to place sim in another handset, as luck would have it, I had a basic Nokia in the car, so basic it has a monochrome screen (Grandma's phone that the kids borrow).
Insert the sim in Grandma's phone and can place calls fine. Tech tells me to take phone to Vodafone store to be sent away for repair. So after 45 minutes i have to take my 2 month old phone for repair ?
After i get off the phone to tech guy i start thinking Grandma's Nokia is solely GSM.
Ok so after placing sim back in HTC, search through settings and select GSM only
Would you believe it makes & receive calls perfectly. At the same time my wife is having trouble with her blackberry on vodafone, although we kept suggesting that it was a network problem in the area to the tech. Selected GSM or 2G mode on the wife's blackberry and Wouldn't you know it she can now make & receive calls perfectly.
Wouldn't vodafone tech guys question the type of handset you are testing the sim in and be very aware of the 3G and 2G differences thus you need a similar phone for a level playing field ?
21 Mar 2011 11:46:33 PM: Vodafone tried to blame their network faults on my phone as well. It's not your brand new phone that works with any other network. It is their system. To get a result you need to complain to the telecommunications ombudsmen, then they will listen and sort out your issue.

Desperately need to get in touch with my father over a business matter and yet again the vodafone (vodafail) network is down and my phone is set to 'Searching', despite being at home (carine) in my house on top of a hill which normally has full reception. Even at work in subiaco just 3km from the city centre, I am constantly experiencing difficulties with the network, I can NEVER use the internet through their alleged "3G" network because speeds are either not working at all OR so painfully slow that I could walk to an internet cafe and be done by the browser loads the homepage of my target site. Vodafail in every way and form of modern communications! Ridiculous!

I am not sure whether this relates to being on the Vodafone network, or whether I have an iPhone, or a combination of both. For the past 8 years I have been able to send messages to my sister in New Zealand. Immediately after changing to Vodafone I have only been able to send her a SMS once. I have confirmed with her that her phone and network are working perfectly. I also receive delayed message replies from friends, sometimes as late as 11 hours later. Vodafone has until the end of this week (tech support is investigating) to come up with a solution or I'm switching. Is Optus any good?

I coughed up $199 for the Vodafone Prepaid Nokia E71 only to find that I cannot access Facebook for free. I thought social networking sites were SUPPOSE to be free? but no vodafones gotta make sure they get their cut of the pie. The only way to access FB is there the VFinternet which means is u have to have credit or thru my own wifi which is a fat lot of use if im 100 miles away from it. I have been thru the Ovi Nokia store for an app but that looks like its ready to shut down cause that was bone dry. I've only had this fone for 2 days and when I took it back to the store and explained I wasn't happy with it they fart arsed around with the settings which don't work and then refused to replace the fone for a similar model BECAUSE they don't have the 14 day "right of return, change ur mind policy" ACTUALLY l don't think they have any policies!...The only solutions are:
1.DO NOT buy the VODAFONE NOKIA E71 and/or
2. Unlock the handset and move Elsewhere...VODAFONE YOUR FRIKN USELESS

Over the past 2 weeks, reception for my iPad and iPhone have dropped dramatically to the point where it is impossible to use the Internet regularly as the reception is either poor or non-existant. Is there any reason for this that anyone is aware of and if so, will it be fixed? Vodafone is terrible... I have been with vodafone ever since they first started in Australia, in fact I have never had any other provider.

I have noticed particularly in the last 6 months how crap Vodafone really is. The consistantly poor reception and very very frequent drop outs rates are insane. It's funny how no matter where you are e.g. outside, in the middle of the Brisbane CBD, still I am getting poor reception and drop outs.

SERIOUSLY VODAFONE SUCKS!!!

I am a lazy man, this only reason I have been vodafone so long is because I am to lazy to change, but I am definately going to now.

P.S. I HATE YOU VODAFONE.

Regards,
G.P.
21 Mar 2011 11:27:45 AM: Are you sure your phone is ok? I never have any reception problems in Brisbane CBD, ever - usually full bars.

Whether I actually get a data connection is another matter... I may well spend longer waiting for the bus timetable to load on Vodafone's piece of crap internet, than waiting for the actual bus.

I originally signed up with vodafail in 2009 with a contract on a Blackberry Storm, I had huge coverage issues and was told by the Vodafail store that it was the phone. I paid it out (big bucks) and resigned for 24 months with a Galaxy S as I was told this would solve my problems. It made no difference. In frustration I called 'Mumbai' and after what seemed like hours of argument cancelled my contract and had them release my number. I run my business off my mobile and over the time I know I have lost some serious money over this. I now have received a bill for $1376 for an early termination fee. I have been given no consideration that I was forced into the cancellation action and after another frustrating day with 'Mumbai' told them I'd see them in court. I have no intention of paying this bill. This company is possibly the worst for communication and understanding that I have ever encountered. They are not getting another cent out of me.

On a business account, and calls are dropping out, and client e-mails taking an age to download (sometimes up to 15mins). Rang Vodafail while out on lunch, in the MLC Center in Sydney, almost no reception in the center of our biggest city. Returned to work, and had three dropped calls while waiting, and in total spent 2 hours waiting to get to a lady who said they would not release me from my contract as my residential address is in an area that will be upgraded next month and that is my "nominated area of usage". I never nominated any area, and the whole idea of being mobile is exactly that, otherwise I'd be working with a land line all day.

My second issue was one where I had a broadband USB key plan. Zero reception in Crows Nest, Sydney. Got out of that contract and signed up for a new plan and an iPhone as a solution for mobile e-mail access. Vodafail said they would send a box for the USB key to be packed in to be returned. They never sent the box. A year later when I was with my phone provider checking sometyhing else, he looked at my account, adn they were still charging me for the USB key and full plan, even though he had notified them to cancel the plan 12 months earlier. They had this noted on the system, but wouldn't give me a refund as they said it was my fault for not checking my bills. I work for myself, so have a direct debit set up, all paper work goes to my accountant. After a lot of arguing, they agreed to refund 50%, through a credit on the account.

This company are a joke, and I cannot wait to be free of them.

Somehow (gee I wonder how after it's come out that Vodafone do not store sensitive client information to an adequate standard) the credit card which was linked to my Vodafail plan was accessed by a third party. This third party proceeded to unlock 3 vodafail handsets (why anyone would want to be on this network is beyond me), since alerting vodafail they have made no attempt to rectify this matter, regardless of the phone calls and investigations into the deduction which we have launched. Today I discovered that my phone has been bared, as I have not paid my previous bill. The reason this bill went unpaid was due to the fact that the credit card previously linked to the account was destroyed after the fraud by vodafail (or as we suspect a vodafail employee), further more I viewed payment of any bill as affirming a contract which under contract law I should have cause to repudiate. How on earth can they be allowed to operate in such a manner?!
15 Mar 2011 12:35:48 PM: This has to be the most shonky large size business in Australia and it being allowed to continue screwing innocent consumers around when it should be shut down. This company makes a mockery of the laws in this country.

Since I've been switched from "3" to Voda I have to walk about outside my house until the reception is sufficient to send an sms. I can't wander about outside all day just in case someone sends me an sms! New base station electronics won't improve reception, the coverage pattern will not change, Voda needs more towers and aerials. If they were serious about solving their immediate problems they'd change the "roamimg" threshold on their customers phones so that they stay "roaming" until a useable/reliable Voda signal is obtained. Analysing the "roaming" bill will identify areas that need more coverage. Building a new "850" network won't help existing customers whose 'phones can't use the 850 band.

I too have a problem with delayed SMS. It's ridiculous trying to hold a conversation when you have to wait for FOUR HOURS in between replies. I would think that vodafail has some sort of legal obligation to deliver messages within a reasonable time frame providing both handsets are online.

I did some research and have seen numerous attempts by vodafail to defend this problem. They say that message delay occurs when there is excessive load on the message centres. THIS IS BULLSHIT. 1. I'm sure there is not excessive load on the system at 0130 in the morning (I often message during my night shift) and 2. vodafail customers shouldn't be copping the burden of vodafails incompetent network management and underfunded SMSC infrastructure. Perhaps if they spent less money on that useless bloody 'Lara' voice recognition system, which, by the way never works, they might have a bit to spare on their network of God forbid living customer service reps.

I run a small business with 15 users all connected to Vodafone. We have been loyal customers since 1998 growing from one phone to now 15. My CFO has been instructed to get out of our contract as soon as possible. I am not normally one to complain however, spent 15 minutes last night trying to re-dial a phone number. I am on my phone constantly for an hour per day at least while travelling (and on hands free). I would have at least 10 dropouts per day which is ludicrous, yet alone frustrating. My friends on other networks do NOT have this problem.

I am changing and I have had enough.

In my opinion, Vodafone need to communicate to every customer or in my opinion they risk losing their business.

If I treated my customers the way they treat me, I would not have any left!

I'll be brief:
Almost all of the updated network sites are to be on the 850 bandwidth: http://blog.vodafone.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/Full-List-of-Site-Upgrades-and-Planned.pdf
Many phones sold by VF to customers, locking them into 24 month contracts don't do 3G/HSDPA on 850. (Incl: Brand new Nexus S, Samsung Galaxy, HTC Desire HD, and HTC Trophy.)
Check the specs yourselves: http://www.gsmarena.com/
Ergo, they are not even fixing their network. This is profoundly rediculous. I have no idea who is sitting around boardroom tables at VF making these calls. Thank-you Vodafail for providing the forum.
15 Mar 2011 01:25:56 PM: as telstra use the 850 band will this interfere with there cust
16 Mar 2011 10:49:39 AM: Those are new towers going in, you seemed to have skipped over the upgrading of existing towers, but I guess that would suit your agenda better wouldn't it. The problem with the current network is congestion, what handset is causing this congestion? The iPhone, which runs 850mhz, so by freeing up the other towers to handle all the other handset it's going to be a benefit.
16 Mar 2011 11:14:06 PM: And who is it by their sales pitch that advertises iPhones to work on their network?

OMG. Where do I start. Five months of huge bills as a result of having to constantly call people back due to - No Network Service, and the not so wonderful iPhone 4.

Just spent 2hours to Vodafone Retention about:
1. Wrongly Direct Debiting my credit card $00's without authority
2. Poor or No network service - causing constant re-dialling
3. Poor Handset (iPhone) causing no network connection

Their solution ... started as a $200 credit ... went to $300, then $400, then $500 ... plus a replacement handset (only if we sign for another 24 months.

What we were asking for was a $675.72 credit over the five months (we're on a $99 plan), and a replacement handset that works for the remainder of the contract.

They refused ... so here we go ... off to the TIO, to the Class Action, and I'm thing of lodging a Minor Civil Dispute for breach of contract ... so I can claim some of my costs too.

16265 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is getting worse at 11 Mar 2011 02:44:30 PM
I am a first time complainant. It started months ago, with text messages being received 3 days after they were sent. Last weekend, I was in the country (Portland, near Bathurst) - no reception. Today, at 3:15pm was expecting a call for a job interview. No call received. Called them at 3:50pm - they had been calling my number (they had the right number) and my phone has not rung, there is record of missed calls nor any record of voicemail .. the caller said that she called 3 times, and the calls did not divert to voicemail. Rang customer service - INDIA - informed me that number was diverted to 'another number' which I do not know the number and have not diverted my calls. Now I'm worried that people are calling me - and my phone is not working/ringing! I have decided to not pay my latest Vodafone bill as I am not satisfied with the 'service'.

I left my optus account early because the antena in my Iphone 3g failed. Voda offered me the best price but having the new Iphone 4 with vodafone is pointless as the 3g network is useless rendering the iphone to an expspensive phone that now struggles to send an sms in the CBD.

16259 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Stupi-fail at 11 Mar 2011 11:28:22 AM
Well, I cancelled my 12 month contract in September last year, switching to Optus and keeping the same number. Since then I've receive a text from Vodafone every month telling me that I owe them -$0.32 and it will be debited from my account on the 30th of the month.

Three main issues here:
1. I turned off direct debit THREE times and they still took money out.
2. This wasn't for my account, the account number was totally different to the one I had, had.
3. After almost six months, surely they'd have figured out that it was 32c they owed me and they could just drop it and leave me alone.

So I called them, after being on hold for 10 minutes I spoke to someone I could barely understand. I gave her my mobile number and the account number in the account number in the messages. Her response "This isn't your account number" "I know that, that's why I'm calling you to complain." "Oh, well I'll cancel this service for you and you shouldn't receive any more texts. Are you happy with the resolution today?" I hung up.

Now I'm wondering if they do this to many people. How can a company be so poorly managed?

I called the TIO six times on them in 12 months! It took 2 weeks of back and forth between stores and call centre, 2 calls to the TIO and one two hour phone call to get the account changed from my mother's name into mine. I constantly had issues as stupid and easily fixed as that.

Immediately after switching from 3 to Vodafone I started having reception issues, I'd kept the same phone just a new sim. When I asked Vodafone they told me it was a fault with my phone and I would have to buy a new one and see if the problem resolved and if it didn't I would have to purchase a new sim. Great solution.

One month they took money from my bank account AFTER I'd paid at Australia post (and asked them to turn off direct debit... three times). This meant that there was a double up in payments so it appeared on my next bill that I didn't owe anything and they told me not to pay it. So I didn't. In the meantime they refunded money into my bank account and then sent me a dishonour fee. It took three phone calls to sort that one out and a TIO complaint.

The list is endless. Needless to I haven't experienced any of these issues with Optus.
14 Mar 2011 01:51:37 PM: Vodafone Infinite Plans... They will debityour account infinitely!!

Well...my issue is this: 3 sucks...if you are in a brick house (outside of the CBD Melbourne) there is maximum 1 bar of reception, i use an iphone (3gs), and if im on the phone, talking, theres a 50% chance it will drop out...

Vodafone has merged with 3...very funny. the 2 worst telecoms merge.

Please can someone make a 3fail website please?

16244 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is USELESS!!! at 10 Mar 2011 03:38:51 PM
I have been a loyal customer with vodafone for over 7 years now, having multiple phone contracts and mobile broadband accounts over the years.

My account number is 218955903

I have recently recieved a new iphone 4 and renewed my contract for another 12 months.. hoping this would fix the multitude of problems ive been facing over the last 6 months. These include dropped calls, no service, customer service won't help with the complaint, and worst of all the potential loss of business due to poor reception and dropped calls.

I run my own electrical contracting bussiness in the sydney cbd and metro area but am finding it EXTREMELY DIFFICULT! to do so as every second call drops out to prospective clients, and more often then not i get voicemails from clients that have been unable to get through. This being due to poor service in the middle of sydney!!

The internet speeds make it pretty much useless to complete anything on the phone, as now i dont even bother.

The Phone i am using cannot be the problem as it is brand new with a new sim card and i have friends on the same plan who have full reception and not a problem.

I have contacted customer support numerous times only to be put on hold and transfered over and over again for an hour each time.. with no success!! I have logged a complaint with vodafone and am unfortunatly looking to cancel my contract with them and switch to a new service provider.

This is costing me a fortune in lost bussines!

Re: Network Feedback Response

For the third day in a row - I have been unable to make a phone call , send or receive text messages or access the internet from my phone. The problem starts when i wake up in Penrith and persists thru the day at Parramatta.

About the only time my network works is for periods of about 15 seconds after i make a call if i can get thru after seven attempts or at around 2:30 for about 4 minutes.

This is my third email in 2 days to customer service. Please do not email me your unable to reach me on my mobile number... when i have given you the details as well as three landlines.

Getting them 5 hours after you sent them make me so cross, its insulting.

I wrote yesterday and was emailed this morning that the problem could not be fixed as i didn't include my phone number.

I popped out for lunch and received 4 text messages three hours late, these were people I was trying to arrange to meet for lunch that i had texted at 9 am.

I have checked on your website for network disruptions... supposedly none in my area today. my phone shows full service, and 3G.

I am two metres away from a person who is having no difficulty whatsoever.

I tried to call 1555. My phone wouldn't connect.

I called your 1300 number where it wouldn't accept my voice commands from a landline at my work. Then after putting in the options via keypad - i was put thru to someone who had such a thick Indian accent - not only could they not understand what I was saying... Ironically What i was asking for was an English speaking person as i couldn't understand them.

After several minutes of being asked for all the details i had already entered, I was told there is no problems with coverage.

Yet i can still not send a text or access the net and have to make 7 attempt's before i can put thru a local phone call.

Vodafail - you are a Joke.

Please don't say it is an issue with my handset - I put in another carriers sim and i have full service.

MY PHONE NUMBER IS XXXXXXXXXX.

As soon as my credit runs out this month I'm going to another carrier and reporting vodaphone to the telecommunications ombudsman.

Another ANGRY ANGRY ANGRY vodaphone customer loyal for 10 years and seriously over it.

Giving up.

I am so sick of my vodaphone constantly dropping out.

I will be

a) joining the class action against Vodaphone

b) informing the Telecommunications ombudsman

c) Changing networks ASAP when my credit expires.

I'm over it. I'm standing next to people in a foyer who have full service. I'm in an urban centre location which has supposedly already been upgraded.

I look on your "reported problems" site and it says that 3G was down for 20 mins in my area.

I get voicemail messages two days late, half the phonecalls I get don't even register, and now i can't even send a txt! I have called customer support now on 28 occasions in the last 3 months and am told - they don't have a complaint section to take down my concerns.

I have been a loyal vodaphone customer for 10 years, however I have not been able to make the most basic phonecall or text message or access the internet for 4.5 hours now and this has become a daily occurrence. My Mobile No is XXXXXXXXXXXX

Over it... you want my custom - you have 2 hours before i finish work and get myself to optus or Telstra to tell me what you are going to offer me to stay.

16236 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Bad but got it sorted!! at 10 Mar 2011 09:11:42 AM
I have had the same issues as many others. I live in Central Met Sydney and was having my phone drop out or only one bar. Texts coming late and just not receiving calls etc. Poor service and phone drop out were the main issue.

I called up to get out of contract. I had just put up with the crap service etc and hadn't reported so they did ask me about that. I just said just because I hadn't called them or documented every time it happened it didn't mean I hadn't been having issues. I was bounced around a bunch of times. First I got told if I wanted to know anything about my account they couldn't help as their computer wasn't working and got told to call back in an hour. Second time I said hello to them and that I wanted to cancel and the call dropped/they hung up. Third time they said they would charge me 12 x $79 as cancellation fee (remaining time on 24month contract). I said this is unacceptable and asked to speak to supervisor. They said none were on and that they would get a supervisor to call in next three to four hours. Didn't receive call.
I called back next day (today) and spoke to them again and they consulted with their supervisor. They said they would waive three months and I said that does not assist me if they coverage is crap etc and due to my work (in emergency services) I require my mobile to work at all times as a matter of urgency/priority. More discussions and then they finally agreed to let me cancel my contract and waive the $1000 fee. If i wanted to keep my phone I would have had to pay for it. I said no, so I need to send it back. They said I can port to telstra anytime now. They said they will send me an envelope and instructions to send back my phone. Once they have the phone back in their warehouse they will waive the fees.
Job done.
Good luck everyone.
Just remember to document if you can (take photo of the screen if possible when phone drops out, times dates etc), call them and complain if you are having issues so they have a log, and if you want to cancel explain how phone use for you is a needed as a matter of priority (eg if you in emergency services and need phone to save lives etc). Good luck!

Dropped calls. Shocking coverage in Kilburn, Prospect, Blackwood, Bedford Park, Marion, Woodcroft, Hackham, and the Barossa... just to name a few. Voicemails and SMS not received for hours (absolutely useless when work calls me and asks me if I can come in when I've not been rostered on, for instance). Cannot make calls or receive calls for large blocks of time... thank god I've not YET been in an emergency situation... or had family trying to contact me urgently! Trying to use the internet on my iPhone 3GS is painful whenever I leave the house, even gave up trying to use the internet on my phone in MELBOURNE recently. Also, my phone is usually rendered useless when in a shopping centre (no service whatsoever). SMS that refuse to send, or take numerous attempts to send. SMS sent that are not actually received are extremely frustrating, not to mention trying on friendships and relationships!

I've been a Vodafone customer for 9 years (at least), unfortunately, the majority of my problems started a few months into signing a contract for the iPhone in April last year. Never really had much of a problem previously as a prepaid customer. I'm paying $79 a month on my contract, is it too much to ask that I can AT LEAST make and receive phone calls ALL THE TIME? I had my landline disconnected when I took out this contract with Vodafone, having never had any problems with my service previously, and trusting that I would be able to make and receive calls all the time.

Maybe vodacrap should market there network for people who don't need to be connected to the network. They are no longer a network to be taken serious, god can't wait till my contract runs out, and no doubt I will be getting there marketing people to try to sign up for another 2 yrs of lies. My partner is having the same problems and after countless calls to Vodaphone & visits to the stores there is NO resolution! Customer care says go to a store & the stores say it must be dealt with customer care! When I call someone I might have to call 4 times as it constantly drops out, why should I pay for a service that i'm not getting? I use this phone for work and so does my partner, who is going to pay for the work lost because clients/customers cant contact us?! And now i'm stuck with this for 24 months?

Also my friend works at voda and said its funny cause so many people call up saying they are having all these drop outs(dont you all realise they can see how many dropouts you have so it would be good to stop lying and making yourself look like a dick).
