Dear visitor,
Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant
contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced
by Vodafone customers.
Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders.
You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.
Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.
More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly.
Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints.
The site will remain online for as long as possible as a
reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.
It has been a privilege to run this initiative
and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In
particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their
continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.
You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.
Until next time,
Adam Brimo

ok so i work for vodafone and my mobile is with vodafone so i feel your frustration, but i just want to put out the point that IT IS NOT STAFF'S FAULT, this is our job my store prides on customer service and thats why our customer enjoy coming back to us, but we are getting customer personal abusing us calling us very horrible names. so please just remember we are human. we are facing the same issue you are with our phone, so be poliet its not hard
18 Jan 2011 06:41:11 PM: Sorry mate but thats how big business operate. They hide behind a wall of staff hoping you won't take it out on them because its "not the staffs fault". If you can get the senior management to step down to the coal face and let people give them an earful, you won't cope as much flak. If you are having the same probs we are having maybe you should expose your internal knowledge to the TIO.
19 Jan 2011 09:56:04 AM: I feel so sorry for you - I used to work for a telco. People never realise that is isn't your fault! Hang in there, hope you have a good manager. I've definitely spoken to a couple of awesome Vodafone reps in store before
12926 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is COMPLETELY at 18 Jan 2011 01:59:16 PM
I have been a loyal Vodafone customer for 12 of the last 14 years and up until the last 18 months haven't had a bad word to say about them. I even managed to get most of my family and friends to switch so we didn't have to pay for calls to each other. Now who's the jerk?
Here is a list of the problems I've experienced lately :
Call Failed at least once a day
Failure to connect at least once a day
International roaming if it worked was usually only txt, voice was unusable.
3G data speeds are worse than dialup days.
They online customer portal has locked me out 5 times in the last 3 months.
You can't pay your bill in store
I've had days were I can't call out at all and have to power my phone off for a couple of hours to get it working.
Vodafone has been nothing but awful service for me and for the first time in my life I'm considering becoming a Telstra customer as I can't handle this completely inconsistent and unreliable service.
Make it better vodafone, this sucks.

i had insurance on my handset, once it broke i tried to get vodafone to replace it, for 8 months i was stuffed around, sent to vodafone stores to get paper work for insurance, the people in the stores would tell me that paperwork didnt exist, vodafone insisted it did. they were not helpful at all. i ended up just paying the contract out. i will never deal with vodafone ever ever again.

I am an iphone user and recently switched from 3 to Vodafone after experiencing multiple difficulties with signal in the area that I live. With Vodafone I am finding that the 3G network is dropping out constantly, no service status intermittantly, and text messages not being received until 3 - 4 hours after they have been sent.
I would like to know what Vodafone are doing to resolve these issues?

Very bad reception since October 2010, alot of dropout calls and receiving messages 8 hours later. Not good enough. Have complained to Vodafone a few times, they obviously have a problem that cannot be fixed. I am not paying my Bill until I get the service that I am paying for.

I'm in Brisbane, fortunately not impacted by the flooding. However my family back in Spain have been panicking. They haven't been able to contact me as I have had no coverage - NOT simply due to the instance of the flooding.
90% of the time when I look at my phone my carrier is "Searching".
In the end I had to use a friends phone. My mother was so worried she was about to book tickets to come all the way to Australia to search for me.
Sounds like a vodafail to me.

I have been on vf for about 6 weeks. Since I first activated I have been unable to get reception in my house. If I force my phone to GSM i can get a few bars from one corner of my house. Almost every call I make or receive drops out and i can forget about data completely. The coverage maps show full 3G coverage. I wish i could invoice this mob for the time that I have spent in store and on hold trying to resolve this issue. I could pay their cancellation fee and they would still owe me money.

I live in Brisbane and was recently caught in rain with my iphone in my handbag. I did not take the phone out during the rain, and when I got home to recharge the phone it did not switch on and heated up. I wasn't too concerned as I have insurance and have been a customer of Vodafone for 4 years. The next day I went to my local store to tell them what had happened and to make a claim. Firstly, the employer told me to go to the police, lie, and get a police report stating my phone had been stolen. He told me this would be easier to make a claim. I told them I wouldn't lie to the police. I then called vodafone from the store to make a claim, as the employers did not know what to do and said they have nothing to do with insurance. Whilst I was on hold, the employer told me not to say that I had been caught in rain. Assuming he would know best, I made my claim and said the phone had stopped workin. When they asked me whether it had been wet, I told them it was in my handbag when I was caught in rain, but I did not take the phone out. They then said it would be a three week wait. On getting off the phone, I asked about a loan phone, in which the store told me they didn't have any, and did not try to get me one. As a result, I went to another store which told me the same thing and advised me I would have to buy a new cheaper phone in the meantime, despite still paying my contract for this month. I eventually tracked one down at Crazy Johns. After all of this, the Vodafone employers guaranteed me that if the claim was dismissed my phone would be returned to me.
This afternoon I received a letter from the insurance company stating that my claim had been rejected as I did not provide sufficient reason for why the phone stopped working. To make matters worse, they have not returned my phone, nor offered any type of replacement phone or options of leaving my contract. I want to leave Vodafone as the service I have been dealt with has been dishonest, inconsistent and unhelpful. I feel that employers of the company advised me to lie (even to police!) and as a result, have hampered my chances of getting my phone repaired. At the moment I stand without a phone, and a $90 plan to pay off for the next 12 months. Disgusting.

12853 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is A VERY SICK PUPPY at 17 Jan 2011 04:57:50 PM
This is a follow on to my post #12532 earlier in the week & relates to a totally unsolicited deal that VF sent me with tempting extras to switch from 3 wireless Internet to them with no more to pay. Basically they looked at my nearly ending 3 account & sent me an offer too good to refuse, which turned out to be too good to be true!
I thought I had sorted my problems with VF when a nice young (sounding) Aussie "account executive" (What does that mean, somebody who applied for the low rate job & was accepted to make coffee & occasionally answer the phone?) agreed to cancel my 1 day old deal because it just totally did not work at all. The deal would be canceled when I returned the modem & software disc by way of a reply paid satchel, which would be sent to my address within 3 days.
No return satchel arrived to date but today, about a week later, I received a call from a nice Indian lady named Poonam & she tells me they want me to check the hardware again before they actually send me the return address satchel because I should give it one more try with their technical dept. My reply was that I am an IT expert & have thoroughly tested their hardware & software & I have determined that neither are the problem, VF just does not have the coverage & the signal is too weak for me to get any kind of acceptable Internet connectivity. This is on top of waiting hours in the LARA queues for days just to get the original guy to agree to cancel my deal.
Anyway, I know live in hope that Poonam can actually arrange for me to back their gear so I can be totally rid of anything to do with this maladjusted, malfunctioning company.
I'll keep you posted on the end result, in the meantime as it's late afternoon I'll have a couple of drinks to dull the PAIN!

17 Jan 2011 05:58:19 PM: Can you please have one for me as well.......thanks!!!!
17 Jan 2011 06:15:44 PM: Forgot to say that the lovely (voiced) Ms Poonam admitted that VF was overstretched on their network (an excuse that doesn't wash but they have been told to say this) due to the merger with 3 & also that was the reason we have to wait so long in queues listening to garbage lies about VF service & garbage music for hours on end. I politely pointed out that this was not the way Australians expected to be treated by a company when doing business & my dealing with her employers who solicited my business from their merger company when they full knew that they could not provide the alleged service amounted to fraud.
Not being racist but as pointed out by somebody else on here there is a massive cultural divide between Australian VF customers & the country & people chosen to answer calls for help when things do not go according to the stated services of this very un-Australian company. Australia Day coming up, maybe us VF customers should celebrate with curried lamb!

My texts never go directly through, they take up to nearly 10 minutes.
Ive witnessed myself sending a text to someone, and then 10 minutes later seeing them and they get the text when im with them!
A few nights ago i was waiting to pick someone up from work, sent them a text saying i was out the front. waited and waited and they never came, ended up going inside and looking for them for a bit, found them and ended up having a drink with them coz they didnt think i was there. and about half way through our drink she gets a the text i sent! GRRR.
Happened again last night. my friends car pulled up out the front, i sent them a text saying come in coz im not ready. and wondered why they were just sitting out with the car running. and i wasnt ready so i was stuffing around for ages. finally finished and got in the car as they get my text.
its so frustrating coz im usually nto even 100m away from them!!! probbaly not even 10m away from them and my texts take way to long!!!

12791 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is 5 bars and NO INTERNET at 17 Jan 2011 06:42:55 AM
Here we go again - 5 bars reception 3G but try to go to a web site (news or otherwise) and no connectivity. Its not the towers, its not the floods, its something somewhere on the network. How difficult is it to troubleshoot, detect, analyse and fix. If your technical staff can't hack it get some people who know what they are doing and fix it.
17 Jan 2011 06:48:58 AM: Some other networks have already stated that in Qld they are giving priority to voice and text over data during the flood crisis. Not sure is Voda is also doing this also or your problem is just lack of Voda capacity.
17 Jan 2011 09:00:28 AM: well if there priority on vodafail is phone and text they arent doing a very good job of it coz those are the 2 things i have the most trouble with!!
12788 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Bad at 17 Jan 2011 01:02:15 AM
Vodafone have changed my plan without my consent in the last month which seems to me to be a massive breach of contract and privacy. Complete with their lack of security and inability to converse correctly with their customers it seems like we might have the next Dodo coming through unfortunately.

Having copious amounts of SMS delayed in either sending or receiving leading to some very awkward circumstances. I know of 4-5 other people with the same issue. This has been going on for 6-7 months so far.
12784 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Never reccommend again! at 16 Jan 2011 09:42:57 PM
For many years I was very happy with the vodafone service so much so that I talked friends into leaving other telecommunication companies that they were unhappy with. THIS I WILL NEVER DO AGAIN!! I am very disappointed that for the past six months there has been many problems with the service, such as;
* Calls dropping out
* 'Emergency Calls Only' more and more often being displayed
* Messages sent and receiver not receiving for days, if at all
* Sent text once and recipient receiving it three times!!
* Unable to use free vodafone to vodafone calls on xmas day
* Due to poor service battery life shortens trying every so hard to find
a signal!!
So Vodafone I shall never recommend your company again and very shortly will no longer be a customer.

12780 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Extremely at 16 Jan 2011 08:34:56 PM
Well I have been on Vodafone for many years now, and I can only say I have never really had issues with coverage. I am a prepaid customer all these years. A few years back, I tried to get a contract with Crazy Johns. At the time my application was declined on "bad credit". My credit rating was clean, and I found out it was Vodafone (who is the service provider for Crazy Johns) that was declining me. I called them to ask what the problem was and it was a bill I had forgot to pay 4 or 5 years or so earlier. Said bill DID get paid all those years ago, but it had been forwarded to their debt collection office. Because of this, I was "not a good customer" even though I had used their pre-paid service for all those years. The customer "care" call ended in me requesting to talk to someone else as the operator I had was not helping me, only telling me I was a bad customer. She said someone would call me on Monday morning - that never happened.
So I forgot about that episode and still, remained as a pre-paid customer with Vodafone. This year (about 7 years after my late paid bill) I tried ot sign up with Crazy John's again. "7 years" I thought, "surely I'm not still blacklisted". DECLINED. Ok, so now I was seriously considering another provider but then Vodafone brought out their recent infinite package, and I have been trying to hold out long enough to see what competition comes out.
Today I went to call on my pre-paid and had no credit. No worries, I'll use the website to recharge. Go to Vodafone website, cant log in. "incorrect password". I had this happen before. Vodafone changes my password or just loses it or something (i don't know? no other website on the entire internet does this to me?). So I do "Forgot my password?" and it says, "your phone number isnt in our system" WTF!!?!?!?! Ok, so then I'll resign up. Step 1 enter phone number, step 2 get temp password SMS to my phone, put it in the form FAIL. Website just... FAILS. Doesn't load up the next step. Just sits there. Not loading. Not waiting for data. Just "Done." Status bar should have said "FAIL".
So now, more pissed off, I thought, how about I try that password just SMS to me to log into my account? Go to login page, try that, now it still says wrong password. Ok, try "forgot password" again. This time it decides that I _AM_ in the system and asks my secret question! Ok, type in the correct answer and it sends me a tem password to my phone to login with.
Get temp password from SMS, try to login - FAIL.
Now seething, I decide to call Customer "Care" as a last resort. After fighting with some voice automated menus, I get forwarded through. From what I heard of the message, it said something like, "We've got more calls than we expected. Please call back later." and it hangs up on me. After seeing red and considering through my phone THROUGH the plaster board wall I decided rather to drop the phone on the bed next to me and say to my wife,
"I'm sick of this. I'm getting a new provider."

17 Jan 2011 04:47:05 PM: Just curious was this after the '3' merger? '3' used to label me as a 'bad customer' if I downloaded some files. I'm not talking movies here either, maybe a CD.iso, then they would cut me off and I'd have to ring them etc etc. I was not over my limit at any stage, just used more data download than they deemed ok apparently. Unfortunately I joined Vodaf..ked to get away from this nonsense with '3'.

12757 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is FAIL at 16 Jan 2011 03:48:50 PM
My phone always goes from 100% coverage to none. This happens all day at no particular time. Yes this has been costing me income as i am in high end sales, self employed and i have had clients lose my call only to call a competitor and purchase from them. I once was a Vodafone dealer with 4 stores in 1998 and the network was great. The massive increase in users has not been matched in network capacity, now its catch up time at everyone elses expense.

We are having numerous problems.
1) Receiving sms messages days late sometimes don't get them at all, also mms messages have not been received at all.
2) Phone will constantly cut out during a phone call. Also when dialling a number it will connect then instantly disconnect.
3) 10 minutes into a phone call it will disconnect, when we call them back it will do it again at 10 mins.
4) One minute wew will have reception and then the next we will have nothing even at home where we should have reception.
5) When we contact customer service we are put on hold for more than an hour, or if we get them to call us back they don't at all we end up trying to call them back.
We have been a loyal vodafone customer for years and have never had a problem until now and we have not had the response we should be getting. They are not being loyal to us at all.

We have been a loyal vodafone customer for years and have never had a problem until now and we have not had the response we should be getting. They are not being loyal to us at all.

Ive been a customer of Vodafone since 2000. Only untill about around 2-3 months ago it went to crap. Voicemails hours later, text hours later. Interent speeds like 56k. No service on phone so cant make or recieve calls some days for half the day. 2 months ago my phone and internet bill went through the absolute roof 3 times normal bill. GO to complain and cant get through cause it drops out. WTF vodafone what happened to you, you suck!!!

Been on hold for over 10 minutes. Want to Log in to My Vodafone but it says my username has been disabled. Nothing has changed since last time I logged in a few days ago (it can't be flood related!). I also want to find out when my contract finishes and how much it will cost me. While I am with Vodafone I will continue to post my painfull experience with Vodafone. Vodafone never again.
16 Jan 2011 06:16:58 AM: 10 minutes are you serious, there's people on hold for hours you fool, there is every reason it could be flood related, if any of there system servers are in Brisbane, then yes they wouldn't have power or be working, why is it everyone feels here that Vodafone are somehow exempt from floods?
its just selfish and self centred!

12687 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is causing havoc in floods at 15 Jan 2011 08:11:50 AM
In and around the Brisbane CBD, I've had a horrible time using my phone while these floods are going on. I've given up on 3G entirely, almost every phone call drops out, often I sit there for 6mins with full bars trying to send SMS's to friends getting supplies at Bunnings, often I get "Emergency calls only" for a while, and often reception drops in and out of "No service" even though I've been at the same place all day.
It's made things really hard for us when family members are trying to contact, or our clean up group gets split.
I simply don't want to pay my bills anymore. I don't see why I should have to pay so much when so much of my time is spent persevering with this shit. I feel like I should be getting paid to stay on with them or at least be given the chance to break contract (god knows they're certainly not keeping up their end of it).

Upgraded my handset with Vodafone over the phone, was told that to insure the new handset I would need to go and visit a store after I had received it.. I did so, and was promptly told that I was no longer eligible for insurance as that needed to be arranged at time of purchase. Apparently they were not allowed to sell me insurance over the phone in the period that I upgraded, so rather than loose the sale, the staff member simply lied.. Now I am left with an uninsured iPhone which they refused to either insure or accept as a return.
Next I moved to a new house, and as my home phone was getting changed I though i could rely on my mobile to stay in touch.. Fail.. Vodafone had NO coverage at the suburb I moved to for two weeks as they upgraded a tower.. not even low coverage, NO coverage, I literally had to drive to the next suburb to get my texts and make calls.. I live in the inner suburbs of Brisbane, the third largest city in the country and they simply turned off coverage for a fortnight. im on a $99 cap, you would think that I would be entitled to $50 off? no deal..
I hate you Vodafone.. more than Telstra even.. and that is a massive call

12676 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Epic failure at 14 Jan 2011 10:24:31 PM
Okay, so i've had my phone replaced 3 times in the 4 months i've had it, i've had my sim card replaced 2 times.
my phone doesn't pick up 3G at all, at the most i get two bars of reception, i went to call Vodafone and what would you know? call failed, about 9 out of 10 calls fail.. they tried to tell me it was my handset and not the network after about 5 hours of calling them they tell me yeah, it is a network problem give it 7 days. i called them everyday for 3 or so weeks and i just kept getting palmed off to different departments, and someone told me at the call centre that they could replace my phone in store for a different handset, uhm no sorry. I'm not sure how many times i've heard "oh that isn't in your case notes" i went into a vodafone shop and got them to write case notes while i was there, i thought maybe the message would get accross apparently not, they offerd me three months free billing period, i didn't call up cancellations because i wanted a free billing period, i want to cancel my contract. I refuse to pay for a device i can't use, i was promised a functional handset and network.
they need to check their case notes, they need to listen to people, they need to get the problem solved when it comes to them, otherwise we're just going to get angrier and it'll only aggravate us more the longer we don't get it fixed.
and most of all, they need a better service. The lady i spoke to today said if i would refer one of my friends to vodafone, sorry i wouldn't do that to anyone i know.

14 Jan 2011 10:32:37 PM: one more thing, people that are going into Vodafone stores about network issues, they can't do anything even if the people at the call center tell you that they can touch your contract in anyway, they can't especially if you have an iphone, don't even bother.
15 Jan 2011 07:52:32 AM: I disagree, stating your problem in a loud enough voice that customers can hear, wasting THEIR staff's time and make them suffer to use their F.... up system, seeing them getting disconnected 3 times, put on hold. Holding up VFu..s resources, and turning their system on THEM, so they suffer from it. Staff can't pretend the system is wonderful when it so blatently isn't. Some may even find it amusing, I just find it wonderfully vindictive to give them what we get.
15 Jan 2011 07:54:02 AM: Oh and don't forget to use the instore button menu to grade vodafone on their 'performance'.
15 Jan 2011 11:33:00 AM: If there was a grading range from a to f, vodafone would generally be a z since mid last year

Vodafone needs to resolve their network issues and it has taken us to the extent of 'whinging' to get their limbs moving. Pathetic. We don't whinge over minor issues, but these are not. They are nationwide and still unacceptably ongoing. Perhaps that journalist needs glasses too.

I live in Broadbeach, Gold coast, Qld and have had various problems with my Vodafone pre-paid mobile phone account for the past couple of months. I have been with Vodafone for about 4 years but I am going to change carriers. Some of the problems I am having are: Not receiving calls, several attempts to make calls (call failed), no reception (emergency only), calls dropping out, phone freezing up or tuning off, battery dying quickly, occassionally not receiving sms.

The absolute worse thing is when there is an impending natural disaster (Brisbane Flood) and your mobile phone goes from the usual PATHETIC coverage to ZERO, NADA "Due to congestion your call can't be connected", immediate hang up.
Is my WIFE alright? I wouldn't find out until she got home through pouring rain and flooded roads. I was beside myself with worry.
There needs to be a law that sets massive punitive measures on large businesses taking on business that they can not possibly service. Yeah, I'm talking to you as well Virgin Pacific

Anyway I got my plan and phone although there are some problems like incorrect address and missing ABN number as it is a business Plan.

I was texted by a mate not to pick him up cos he found a ride home. I never got hte text and after driving 30 minutes each way, then I get the text. Would Vodafone reimburse me some petrol money? Not likely. What if I had an urgent situation? Maybe I should put my life on hold to catch up with their carrier pigeon powered text message services. LADIES AND GENTLEMAN,
PLEASE IF YOU NEED TO CALL VODAFONE:
WHEN YOU GET ONTO LARA JUST SAY "ACCOUNT ACTIVATION". FOLLOWING THIS JUST SAY "COMPLETE REGISTRATION".
The average wait time is between 30-45 seconds. Longest I've ever waited was 2 minutes. Now for the tricky party...
In order to get your problem addressed, make a fuss, be annoying, create problems, be demanding, don't take no for an answer, demand supervisors etc... I'm sure by now you've all had lots of practice with this. Following this, demand that the relevant department call you back or they put you straight across. It'll save you the average wait time of 30-45 minutes for any other department. Don't let them dictate how we should get customer care. Screw their inept policies, procedures and simplistic problem solving/delegation.

14 Jan 2011 11:30:28 AM: You're spot on. Lara lacks any ability to understand accented english. Epic fail. Or maybe because the network is bad, our voice reaches her all broken.
14 Jan 2011 03:28:52 PM: Give that a try, although I have done my best to do this in real life 3 times today at their stores. I'm beginning to suspect they deliberately hire brain dead staff just to frustrate you though. When I was with Virgin and I had to use their automated number system I used to just repeatedly press # till I spoke to a human.
14 Jan 2011 03:36:43 PM: Actually just had an evil thought. Why not use this webpage and lodging complaints by locality to organise for people to meet and protest outside Vodafone shops? Even if we all just milled in and started asking embarassing questions. Normally I am a decent quiet individual, but it is time customers gave Vodaf..k what they have been giving us.
14 Jan 2011 03:53:05 PM: It'd be a bit unfair to throw all that flak at the actual branch employees who are just trying to work.
But if it merely involved standing outside with messages of customer horror stories/complaints with the aim of dissuading potential customers from signing up with VHA? That'd be awesome.

I'm on hold for 72 minutes after "Lara" informing me of an "over 30 minute wait" when I first jumped in queue. After being on hold I get a CSO who can hardly string a sentence together and is so quiet that I have to keep asking him to repeat himself. After nicely (after all it's not the CSO's problem that my handset keeps crashing) explaining my issue he ends up grunting and then hanging up on me. Sadly this is what I've come to expect from their Tech Support.
I have no gripes with Vodafone support being offshore but I do expect civility and prompt service when I'm on a 24mth contract with them. If you don't have a good disposition, don't work in such a heavily customer focused role.

14 Jan 2011 11:26:32 AM: You are being unfair to employees of call centre. Why blame wage earners when all they can is follow management instructions?
Vodafail can easily instruct call centre to increase number of employees to answer phone calls quickly.
Vodafail can easily instruct call centre to increase number of employees to answer phone calls quickly.
14 Jan 2011 11:43:06 AM: The offshore call centre employees are ok at their job. Its just that it is becoming more difficult to reach them. Problem is, we don't know if the call centre employees lie about network maintenance. They also go around in circles with their statements, which often encompass things that customers here have complained many times. Without a solution, this further aggravates an already aggravated customer.
21 Jan 2011 11:29:42 AM: how is this unfair? I'll tell you what's unfair, we are in Australia, paying Australian dollars, but getting the lowest type of service from another country. Why should I waste 10-30mins of my life repeating something to customer service when if this was locally based with proper english speaking people, I'd say it once, understood, problem resolved or at least escalated.

have two mobiles through Vodafone, one for myself and one for my partner. Both of us are continiously pulling our hair out at the absolute lack of reception that is available through their service. It is not unusual for us to receive text msg many hours later after they have been originally sent. Voice mail services aren't much better either....but here is what really gets to me. I am an Australian Defence Force member about to be deployed overseas for a period of 8 months....and in preperation for that, I contacted Vodafone to request a suspension of my phone for the period that I am away as I would not be using the service. Let me point out that i merely wanted to SUSPEND my service not cancel it, so when I returned from active duty, i would recommence my mobile telephone service. I was told that the maximum amount of time they would suspend my service was three months and that i would have to pay out the remainder of my plan if I wanted it for longer. Tell me this, we as Australians support this company by signing up with them and paying our bills on the due date month in month out, but when i comes to providing support to us, it is simply too much to ask. I am 100% behind this website and what it stands for and it couldn't be put simpler...VodaFAIL!

supposed to have excellent coverage in the area I live according to their map, can't use phone inside house and frequently drops out when finally able to make call. delayed messaging is a huge problem, need phone for work and to keep in contact with child. vodafone never replied to complaint email. told by local vodafone store it was my 'outdated' phone and sim card, so purchased new one and had to go back to store 7 times to get set up properly. on prepaid, what entitlements do I have, don't want to pay to switch service providers
14 Jan 2011 10:15:46 AM: if it's prepaid just goto another provider (not 3 as they are the same), and port your number over from vodafone. this will cancel the vodafail sim.
12561 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Useless! at 14 Jan 2011 05:02:09 AM
In Toowoomba we finally get service back! It only took 3-4 days and after 1 night it is out again! What a great surprise for all of us Vodafone users!!! Just checked at 5:57am and again network down. Do we have to pay for days we have no service in out contracts / plans or whatever Vodafone staff want to call it? Is there a contract agreement at any point that states when out of signal or service Vodafone will not bill you for those periods or days? I guess if I go without proper signal or service for a month then I shouldn't pay for the signal or service I went without for the month right? Anyone have an idea on this? Why should anyone pay for something they don't get?
14 Jan 2011 06:05:30 AM: i rang them yesterday about lack of network coverage in my area. Told the indian that I have had no coverage for the past month or so and he wrote off my current bill. If you can get through to them just keep hammering the person then you get, that fact that you have had no service and that you are not paying your bill :)
14 Jan 2011 06:47:21 AM: Did you get the chap's name, id and the reference number of the call???
If not............you may be in for a surprise at the next billing cycle!!!!!

12559 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is BAD! at 14 Jan 2011 03:13:24 AM
Queensland suffers it's worst disaster in the history of our state. Vodafone services fail and do not work for 3 days straight for me! We pay for a phone service and when we need it there is no service at all! How can this be explained away when Tesltra and Optus were working when Vodafone wasn't? What for those who called for help and did not know about cell phones and the 112 not 000 for emergency that have died?
14 Jan 2011 05:06:45 AM: would have died anyway unfortunately. You are low for trying to accuse Vodafone of causing death because the network went down. You can't prove that's what happened and you are making up scaremongering crap. Did you hear about the offices and main server building in Brisbane that got flooded? How is that Vodafone's fault? How about imagining that you're in water getting swept away. Your phone would be wrecked by the water anyway! give yourself an uppercut.
14 Jan 2011 10:13:53 AM: @ 14 Jan 2011 07:06:45 AM Most organisation, even small ones, would have a disaster recovery plan and also backup plans to be used in the event of natural disasters, such as floods.
Appears Vodafail had neither.
Appears Vodafail had neither.
15 Jan 2011 03:03:32 AM: If a system is implemented then there should always be a redundant backup system to take the entire workload. The redundant backup system should be located somewhere else other than the primary systems. Vodafone users went without service for 3-4 days in this city. There is no excuse and I am stating a very real fact that other telecommunication providers networks continued to work while Vodafone failed and not in part but fully. No Service!!! People could not call relatives and check on them. I have left Vodafone as of Tonight; some hours ago and all those who can will be advised by me to do the same. I will never use this network again in my life. As a technician I have backups of everything and plans to recover any hardware, service or data that I may loose at any time. Was there any system in place for the vodafone network or do they cram as much as they can into a service that is overwhelmed and failing because it has not been upgraded over time to meet service demand to maximise profits. This is 2011 and a company that is national that specialises in Communications via cellular / mobile handsets should be prepared as their competitors must have been and if they can be prepared and continue to provide service why can vodafone not?
12551 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is a joke. not haha funny. at 13 Jan 2011 10:54:47 PM
I naively signed onto a contract with vodafone about 20 months ago, and have regretted it ever since. I have had a few major issues with them regarding insurance, appalling coverage when i live so close to the CBD of the 3rd largest city in Australia, and the fact that their customer service is a joke. like, not just bad, it is actually useless.
within the past 12 months I started a new job working at a major phone dealership, that deals with Vodafone, telstra, Optus and 3. I will not name the company or location, but one of the requirements is that we don't put down other carriers if there is no need. if we do a coverage checker and it looks good, and the plan suits the customer, we do it, and can't advise against it. but in recent months i have been steering customers well clear of vodafone and 3. i just explain my own experience as a vodafone customer, and then show my own phone's current signal compared to a store phone on telstra, and we both have a laugh at how bad it is.
after having no service for almost 2 days now during the floods, a time when we also had no electricity meaning no modem for the internet (NOT vodafone thank god), i was unable to contact friends and family, get help, nothing. vodafone, that is just not good enough. I am now on a one person mission to sway customers away from a useless network. YOUR TURN, VODAFONE!!!

Why can't you make calls from that phone line?
14 Jan 2011 05:12:24 AM: It's cute that you expected Vodafone to be your hero and save you from lack of contact due to electricity outage hell. You should know that emergency services will still work. So what happened to grabbing an Optus or Telstra SIM even? If you're that ignorant.
14 Jan 2011 08:44:15 AM: hes in floods, i doubt the optus and telstra shops were open to get a new sim. ur the idiot. Vodafpne FAILED every one of its customers in brisbane, i live 40 minutes outside the city and luckily wasnt in the floods but my service was gone and i had no way of contacting friends and family in the area, i had to rely on my telstra internet (which worked perfect) to try and find out on facebook if they were alright.

12549 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is flood-level fail at 13 Jan 2011 10:39:07 PM
i am up to my eyeballs with frustration over various issues throughout my contract, last week lodged a complaint with the TIO, but in brisbane at the moment with the flooding, i assumed network congestion would be an issue. I completely lost all signal yesterday morning, and without electricity (which meant modem couldn't work), i couldn't tether or contact anyone. I'm just so lucky i am staying with a friend who is on Telstra. almost 48 hours later i STILL don't have network coverage. and i have been in 3 suburbs today and restarted my phone. still nothing. i feel nothing but loathing towards this telco.
14 Jan 2011 05:14:49 AM: Handset might be water damaged. The network is up. I have friends successfully contacting me from Brissy last night.
14 Jan 2011 03:13:20 PM: I too am in the Brisbane area - Logan area and I have had no coverage for the past 2 days. Thought it was to do with floods but vodafone are not reporting any issues for Queensland. I too have been in several suburbs over the past couple of days and no success anywhere. I know of others experiencing the same issue - so don't think it is water damage.

12532 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is CRIMINAL at 13 Jan 2011 08:25:48 PM
This company is criminal by nature. They only respond when there is a possibility of new business when they can rip off some poor unsuspecting citizen
Any attempt to connect to their phone lines is the ultimate in frustration. Their robotic sex voice LARA connection is utterly useless. Even when you press all the right numbers the sex voice LARA robot tells you there is a problem & to call back later. Calls to Mumbai are answered by polite Indian people with no understanding of the frustration of dealing with a company that keeps people waiting in a queue for hours, which is the norm in India just to make a deposit or withdrawal from a bank or any other everyday procedure.
This company goes out of it's way to purposely make it extremely difficult to make any kind of complaint. Their phones either cut you off or do not answer for hours & if & when they do answer it is by a person who does not understand the problem, their email is sent from non-returnable addresses, they have no public contactable address & they send their hardware from disguised addresses through other intermediary companies.
If there is a vigalante band being organised to lynch the people who run this company please let me know so I can join.

14 Jan 2011 01:53:20 AM: That is so funny. Vodafone is secretive and ekusive, almost to the point of paranoia, and yet people can help themselves to our lives via Vodafone's unbelievably slack control of their system.Did Vodafone use "Catch 22" as a procedure manual for conducting their business?
14 Jan 2011 05:14:28 AM: Try emailing the CEO. I did this yesterday and had 2 calls backs (one from tech support, and one from a team leader at Tech Support - unfortunately BOTH indian, but easily understandable) within 3 hours, also a follow up text message.. Seems Nigel Dews gets things happening.
But be polite and firm. I told him I wanted this sorted, or I threatened TIO intervention..

http://vodafone.custhelp.com/app/ask/session/L3NpZC9sQkM3cFlqaw%3D%3D/sno/0
Can't guarantee it will go anywhere but give it a try!
I subscribed to Vodafu-k's wireless nonexistent broadband service (54KPBS), I could run faster than that. Spent hours on the phone waiting for Vodafu-k's "service" line to answer for days. Today again 1.45 hours in the queue listening to garbage messages & garbage music after being transferred by the nice gentleman in Mumbai & then threw my innocent phone across the room in frustration. Had a couple of drinks & then thought to myself why bother, just cancel the payments from my credit card & lodge a complaint with TIO as advised by people on here & go to a net cafe to research the forums for whichever company has the best record of wireless internet connection. Not going to look for the best deal, just one that works!
Enjoy the rest of your day.

No coverage in Toowoomba since at least one day before the flooding rain, so how can the transmitter be down because of the flood???. Not to have mobile service when you need it most is terrible. Now have phone calls I am having them call forwarded to my new telstra sim card but have to pay dearly for this service. Should be free as they are not providing me with any service.

I have been with Vodafone for over 2 years and in that time every month there has been over charges on my account, they have charged my partner for excess data when his phone does not have the ability to use data, and they are completely impossible to deal with when you can actually get a hold of them. I have not been able to ring customer care off my mobile ever and get cut off nearly every time i get through on another phone!!!!! BIG FAIL

Service came back on only to allow Vodafone to send a text to both us on seperate no service periods & advised that our bills were ready then went back to no service again straight away.

Dont particularly like Telstra's attitude but will be changing back as soon as possible at least their network works!

My issues are
1) Poor reception in the 4000, 4078, 4069 and 4121 postcode which is where my brokers do 90% of their business
2) Customers tell us they cannot reach our numbers which always goes to messagebank
3) we get an average of 13 call fails each day when trying to call out
4) The Vodaphone Blackberry regularly turns itself off when in the adjoining suburb of Richlands and then re-initialises - sometimes 2 or 3 times in succession
5) No 3g coverage at most times. City - hopeless, Kenmore - very little 3g and tarragindi at my home absolutely hopeless. Even have no 3g in the cbd and fortitude valley most of the time.
6) Had clients tell us that they've been trying to call on numerous occasions. Phone can be sitting on our desk, or in our pocket and it does not ring
7) our loan updates are received via SMS and these have been received 1 day later which is unacceptable in our business when the settlement of a house is involved
8) Data speeds have been terrible and as we are cionstantly on lender sites for loan uopdates this is unacceptable
Given my brokers are self employed and rely heavily on their mobiles this is now seriously affecting my business.

I also have an Optus phone for work and it's had perfect coverage the entire time.
12468 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Ridiculous at 13 Jan 2011 01:03:13 PM
I live in North Qld and have been Vodafone for the last two years. For the first year I was a prepaid customer and did not mind when I lost service here or there. Since I have been on contract and more recently a new contract with an Iphone to enable me to keep in contact with everyone easily and mostly live off my mobile I have had nothing but dramas, constant loss of service, terrible internet service. Yesterday afternoon I believe everyone in Qld lost service for the whole afternoon. Yet I am still required to pay my monthly contract fee for services I am not fully provided with each month. On top of that I ordered an Iphone late last year which after chasing Vodafone up about its whereabouts was told my order wasnt processed and I would have to wait a further 12 weeks on top of the original 4 weeks wait due to someone simply not doing their job. Even worse when trying to sort out this mess as I had a new contract rolled over but no Iphone when i phoned for assistance not only had I been cut off twice I was then put through to a call centre somewhere outside Australia. I could not understand the customer service representative and he was not fully understand what the issue was. I requested NUMEROUS times during our conversation to be transferred to a centre in Australia where someone could help me. He refused and after arguing with me I decided to hang up. This meant I spent more time and i mean hours telephoning Vodafone going through the initial steps when you first call each time waiting and hoping until I could finally get through to someone who could understand what the issue was and I could also understand clearly. Although this matter was resolved I am no longer a happy customer of Vodafone and the constant service drop outs are simply ridiculous and we as customers are not getting the so called service we pay for. The only issue now is if I decide to switch telephone companies I would be up for huge cancellation fees which Im sure most of us cannot afford and I know I cant. It is very disappointing as when I lived in Europe Vodafone were great. It simply seems that Vodafone Australia just cant get it right.

When I do get a meger 1 bar, it drops out the moment I try to make or recieve a call.
This is unbelievable and unfair that I should pay the same amount of money as someone on Optus, yet recieve less than half.

14 Jan 2011 03:43:57 PM: Regarding billing. Call me cynical but I am beginning to suspect their 'half price for 6mths or whatever' offer is just to get you in. At the end of the 6 month period they then lie to you about usage, or make it impossible to find out WHAT your usage was, in my case for 12 DAYS. And gradually claw back any discounts they gave you and more besides. In my case they actually took nearly 2G off my usage one day before it was up for the month and then put it back.WTF

After it was clear that I wanted my money back I was told that I would receive a check within 10 working days. It is too hard to try and correct any problems as it takes up to and exceeding an hour to get thru to call centre staff. It is simply not good enough and I want out of my contract. I think this has become more of a priority for them instead of answering customers with service difficulties that have been on hold for more then 2 hours during a time of emergency and hardship. Showing no compassion at all for the victims of this disaster. YOUR JUST STUPID IDIOTS THAT READ OFF SCRIPTS & THINK YOU CAN SPEAK ENGLISH!!!!!
12 Jan 2011 11:59:36 PM: I can't believe a company like this can still be running in a country like Australia
13 Jan 2011 08:33:59 AM: They wont be much longer
21 Jan 2011 06:13:25 AM: I can't wait to get a copy of my contract and insurance just to see if what they promised is actually written somewhere clearly. My bills have been a nightmare to follow there are so many $ deductions and some gst % add ons I have no idea about..
12397 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is OK at 12 Jan 2011 11:19:55 PM
I love how everyone flips out and goes mental about the flood crisis affecting the Vodafone network. Energex switched off power to nearly 20,000 homes because of the floods. Retail stores shut down because of the floods. Vodafone networks were affected because of the floods. It's amazing you still point your finger at Vodafone when the situation was an act of God.
13 Jan 2011 06:32:45 AM: Act of God maybe, but the network is a critical service. Therefore all those battery backups and generators at each site should have kicked in. Obviously didn't, and has highlighted another flaw in the network.
13 Jan 2011 06:43:12 AM: Im surprised that vodafone doesnt blame the sun, moon and sea on the reception issues. With all due respect to the people affected by the floods... vodafone has earned a reputation of lying so its MORE than expected for them to use this disaster as an excuse. Its cowardly and expected from their theiving kind. No floods in sydney and their network a complete joke... funny that! Voted worst compant in UK for 2010 says it all... congrats vodaMOAN you earned it.
Keep away from contracts and keep the carriers honest.
Keep away from contracts and keep the carriers honest.
13 Jan 2011 07:20:21 AM: Vodafone is blaming their reception problems on the same NON-EXISTENT thing being blamed for the floods - some wanker named GOD. Maybe if Vodashit did blame God, we were all finally know they have admitted to lying as the two are just as pathetic as each other.
13 Jan 2011 07:20:32 AM: Errr Vodafail is one of only 3 networks in this 3rd world technology country and in delivering a 'service' which they get paid for regardless of quality, back up and redundancy of service ESPECIALLY in times of distaster are core to market responsibility. Time for Vodafail to have their licence withdrawn...
13 Jan 2011 10:20:28 AM: I work in the mobile network industry and Optus and Telstra moved heaven and earth to ensure continuation of service in flood effected areas including rapid deployment of temporary cells of wheels sites, generators in advance to keep key base stations operational and choppering technicians to fix individual cell sites.. All base stations are designed to have 4-6 hours backup power but such systems are subject to failure if not regularly serviced. The whole Voda Qld network went down for lengthy period yesterday for their excahnge was flooded in Brisbane but to have this happen with no contingecy or built in redundancy is an absolute disgrace. Telstra and Optus' network had no such issues. Vodafone have been struggling for years to compete with the other carriers and have poored all their money into marketing and product development and have totally neglected their network and onging operations. They are waking up to this fact now but there is no quick fix solutions unfortunately.
12395 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is NON EXISTANT SERVICE at 12 Jan 2011 11:06:39 PM
During the flood emergency in Brisbane, There was completely no service for hours. And when reception did come back, phone calls was limited to seconds before dropped out. I believe Voda are responsible for lives lost and property lost due to unable to call anyone for help ....... also why are they even charing us for service that is non existant ?
13 Jan 2011 06:17:39 AM: You can still make an emergency call when you have no coverage.
13 Jan 2011 07:43:53 AM: Emergency lines were jammed and people were trying to get through to family members for help
12394 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Online complaint fail at 12 Jan 2011 11:00:03 PM
Has anyone noticed that when you make a complaint online it doesn't go through automatically. They send you a cofirmation email where you have to reformat what you want to send and then forward that on again to affirm your complaint or question. I've done this many times. Never had any response. Wish I could charge them my billable rate for emails. I'd have made a couple of thousand by now.
13 Jan 2011 06:53:21 AM: Oh yeah noticed that. They want you to jump through hoops before accepting your complaint. More than once Ive had to send a complaint a few times (same email over).. "typing between their special lines" AFTER THE INITIAL COMPLAINT IS LODGED ON THEIR SITE... just to never hear back from them. I guess if they dont see the complaint there is nothing to worry about. Strange how most other similar web services just send you a confirmation and let you get on with your life. Nooo not vodafone they have to mess you around to hide their problems while still being allowed to advertise and trap more people in contracts they cant keep to themselves.
Pack it up vodafone.. game over you monkeys.

13 Jan 2011 07:22:20 AM: got sent an apology txt message yesterday over their shockingly bad security and when I tried to comment back to them via my phone.....................................it timed out and wouldn't send.

My life and that of my 8year old nephew put at risk because vodafuckup outsources an important service. This will be taken further.

dropped calls, constantly getting message "your provider is no longer available go to settings to change" what a crock, undelivered texts, voicemails, missed calls popping up when phone has not rung, no signal on phone or mobile internet. All for the bargain price of $80 a month.
12365 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is 100% Incompetence at 12 Jan 2011 08:18:05 PM
Purchased a mobile internet package for specific use on Moreton Island.
Zero service coverage anywhere on the island.
I was assured from sales staff that I would be able to access internet from Tangalooma resort- even showed me a coverage map as proof.
Bah! Posted my details on the class action against Vodafone.

12361 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Vodafails in all areas at 12 Jan 2011 07:54:18 PM
I've been with vodafone for over 10 years and when I lived in Sydney-the line would drop out continually and get a message on my phone saying that the network is busy.
Now I live in Queensland and the network is non-existent up here. One moment I have 2 bars and then make a phone call- the next moment, no network coverage. It would be easier to send pigeons with messages.
I'm changing phone companies when damage control due to the floods has passed.

12357 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Dead Loss!!!!! at 12 Jan 2011 07:46:55 PM
I'm in the Ipswich floods tonight and was depending on communication to be available most of the time.
I understand that the network is congested because of the overall scale of this disaster but i at the very least expected to be able to make some calls when the network had a chance to recover.
But true to form Vodafone has gone down completely for the last 10 hrs, while my neighbour is with telstra and has not lost signal all day.
Most of the time vodafone is substandard but i thought just this once it might be fine, but true to form a "DEAD LOSS" #!!??#######
Goodbye Vodafone hello Telstra !!!

12 Jan 2011 08:32:02 PM: No just means everyone should move to a quality Network like Telstra or Optus as they both are working fine for the last 2 days of the flood :)
12 Jan 2011 08:44:34 PM: Just like to add that 3 has been working fine as well - just so the anti-VHA people don't jump on board
