Dear visitor,
Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant
contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced
by Vodafone customers.
Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders.
You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.
Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.
More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly.
Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints.
The site will remain online for as long as possible as a
reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.
It has been a privilege to run this initiative
and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In
particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their
continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.
You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.
Until next time,
Adam Brimo

Having taken up Vodafone as a business client, I find it continually discouraging when the network drops out either whilst I am on a phone call to a customer or trying to locate a service.
I don't understand how the reception for other network clients is fine and mine cannot keep up. My clients like to be able to speak to me when they can and recently even just a trip to Toowoomba put me off the map!
Last year, on a business trip to Japan I was assured I would be able to roam from overseas. Having arrived in Japan, I found this was not the case and spent days on the internet trying to get my service up and running.
Only 4 days prior to leaving did I finally have the coverage I was promised would be ok. By that stage a wedding cake order had been cancelled as the Bride had been unable to locate me and I had lost other clients enquiring about orders too.
'Not happy Jan'
Now with issues on my iphone, I have not been able to use it whilst on contract with Vodafone and find it disheartening that the contract and the waaranty don't go hand-in hand. As far as I'm conerned if I'm still paying for the product and it fails through no fault of my own, I shouldn't have to wait to have the phone replaced or pay for the replacement.
The system is ridiculus and as soon as my contract is finished I will be changing suppliers.

Terrible coverage, I work in the Brisbane CBD, little reception at best of time and 3G rarely connects.
I've had calls just drop out and lose reception for no reason. Will be attempting to leave Vodafail shortly and to try my luck and give my money elsewhere.
Vodafone, don't provide the service I am paying for.

13745 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is VERY UNHAPPY! at 21 Jan 2011 10:46:15 AM
I have been a loyal customer of Vodafone for 6 years. I renewed my contract, signing up for 24 months with an iPhone 4 in September 2010.
About a week in, I noticed that my 3G data speed was rapidly decreasing - this has NOT improved in the last 4 months. This didn't worry me too much at first but then the SMS problems started. If I was on the 3G network, I was unable to send SMS but obviously if I de-activated the 3G then I couldn't browse, get emails etc. It took me 45 minutes to get through to someone who told me that Vodafone was doing upgrades in my area and it should be fixed within 2 hours. 3 days later it was finally fixed.
However, in the last 3 months I have had more that 5 times where I was sending text messages then a few hours later realising that I had not received any (ater sending a test to myself). When I called the first time, I was told that it was a problem with my sim and to reboot. This didn't work so I was given about 10 different options to go through before it started working again.
The next time it happened, I was on hold for 56 minutes before getting through to someone that could not understand what the problem was and I had to be put through to his supervisor who wasn't much more help but eventually gave me a code to disable call barring on incoming text and told me that I must have played with settings to cause this! I know for a fact that I didn't touch ANY settings and after some investigation, found that there was not even an option for call barring within the iPhone menu!
The third time this happened, I called vodafone and was on hold for 18 minutes before being disconnected. I called back, went through all the prompts and then LARA said "Sorry, something went wrong. You'rell have to hang up and try again". This happen 9 times before I finally go through to someone who told me that I had to fully restore my phone because it was a handset issue. Tried this, took 2 hours, didn't fix it. I called back anda further 30 minutes on hold got me back to someone else, I asked for the code and was bluntly told that there was no such code for call barring. 20 minutes later I managed to get him to look for it, speak to his supervisor and give it to me. Luckily I remembered to write it down as this same issue has happened a further 2 times since then.
On top of that, I constantly get call drop outs and no 3G even in CBD.
And the icing on the cake? I tried logging into Vodafone online and was told my password was incorrect. Upon trying to reset, I was told I wasn't even registered. So I went through the registration process and what do you know, all my details are exactly how I left them!
I have never had any reason to change before but I am seriously considering moving to another Telco because this is pathetic!

I had a phone on a 24 month contract, with insurance.
After 13 months one day my phone stoped working.
it was out of the 12 month warrenty, and the insurance would not cover the phone because there was not an "Event" eg dropping it. It just Died.
So I was left with 11 months left on my contract and no Phone.
Multiple to customer service and speaking with managers etc, they pretty much said...too bad so sad.
I hate you Vodafone.

13733 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is crap at 21 Jan 2011 10:34:22 AM
I have been a Vodafone customer for 9 years but was pre-paid until 15 months ago when I signed a post-paid contract. Had no issues at all and thought they were great until September when my phone was disconnected apparently due to an upaid bill from April was supposedly direct debited from my account but failed to go through and it 'didn't show up in their system until September. This bill was paid and I had the bank statement and reciept from Vodafone to prove it but even if it wasn't paid, my phone was disconnected without any warning - no email, no text, no letter - I simply couldn't make outgoing calls or send texts one morning. Poor form. I had to call Vodafone and waited on hold for 1hr and 23mins before being connected to someone only to be chastised by an Indian gentleman who I stuggled to understand but was clearly annoyed at me for being annoyed when according their system the bill hadn't been paid. After my 1hr 23min hold, I spoke to this guy for 15mins before being told I was speaking to the wrong department anyway and that he would put me through to someone else. I waited a further 48mins on hold before being connected to an Indian woman who was of no use. By this stage I was VERY frustrated and after 12mins of discussions with her I asked to speak to the cancellations department and was put through (strangsly no hold time that time). I finally spoke to someone who was helpful but it still took 31mins to clear up the mess and get an apology for the mistake and a credit added to my account as was required to re-active my phone. Then of course you have to hang up and wait 20mins, turn your phone on and off and then it should be working. And I was then advised to call them back if I had any further issues - yeah right! I'm totally keen to waste another I spent 3hrs and 15mins on the phone in order to get them to fix THEIR MISTAKE. Not happy at all. After 9 years and what is definately more than $14,000 in expenses with theme, I am not impressed. That's what you get for customer loyalty. I will be terminating my relationship with them this year as soon as my contract ends.
13727 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is BIG TIME FAIL at 21 Jan 2011 10:29:55 AM
Have been on $49 cap for over 1 year, and never exceed the cap limit. The last 2 billing periods have been $172 and $96!!! with no significant changes to the calling. Large number of dropping out events have been noted on the bills. Dropped into a Vodafone stall, and they refused to help. Unable to get through on customer care line. In the meantime I refuse to pay the bill - guess I will just wait to they cut off the phone!!! (Can I still keep my mobile # if I sign up with another carrier?)
21 Jan 2011 02:04:56 PM: Yes you can. Don't cancel it on vodaphone's end, your new provider can port your number across. This would count as an early termination of contract so vodaphone would charge you to do so. Boycotting payments would do little in your favor as it would count against your credit rating if it goes through to a collection agency, so see if voda is willing to waive any due to your issue.

I can't make a call in any buildings, not even my own house. The coverage is so inconsistent. When I travel out of coverage areas and then return, it can take hours to receive messages after I have regained service. Stuck in a contract for 2 years.
13654 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Epic at 21 Jan 2011 09:46:31 AM
Vodafone customer for 3+ years here. I've been enduring constant dropouts, flakey reception and poor 3g data speeds for too long. I have an iPhone 3GS in 24 month contract with Vodafone (expiring December 2011, which can't come too soon.
I am in a rather unique situation because I also have a work phone which is an iPhone 3GS as well, same version of OS (4.02), but work phone is through Telstra. Telstra coverage is almost flawless (I travel interstate for work weekly) and always where I have limited to no coverage (3G or normal network) on my personal Vodafone iPhone 3GS I can compare to the Telstra coverage on the work iPhone 3GS. Telstra is consistently better every time I check, and I don't think I've had a single dropped call on the Telstra iPhone.
Vodafone on the other hand I'd say 40% of my calls are dropped (yes, even when I'm in CBD area in different states), or get to the point where its chopping in an out and the person on the other end of the call cannot here me.

13644 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is failure to honor warranty at 21 Jan 2011 09:41:38 AM
i bought an i-phone from a vodafone store and on its last 3 months of its warranty the phone failed and was sent to vodafone for repair (together with my friend's i-phone, so there's 2) but it took over a month for them to get back to us saying the units were water-damaged when in fact they cant show us any proof it was water-damaged (and i can tell honestly that the iphone hasnt been wet at all)and they were charging us over $300 each to repair it. So I just decide to get my i-phone back from them and it took another 4 weeks before we received it. Eventually the warranty expired while the unit in their hands, I took the i-phone to a private technician and he repaired it for $80 and no water-damaged like vodafone claims. How's that for warranty????
13638 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is really SH!TTY with overseas texting at 21 Jan 2011 09:37:38 AM
Is it true that you cannot just freely send text messages to Canada? This is what I have been told by a service consultant at Vodafone. She said that they only have texting agreements in place with two Telcos in Canada. And they aren't necessarily the biggest two.
So consequently I cannot send text messages to my daughter. When I explained my predicament the consultant suggested that perhaps my daughter could change providers in Canada. Never mind her contract though. I am a new customer with Vodafone, and never in a million years would it have crossed my mind to enquire about the ability to send SMS messages.
If someone knows otherwise - please respond.
Not cool Vodafone!

Poor customer service - being on hold for more than half an hour before giving up.
Calling back the next day and waiting 40 MINUTES before getting to talk to someone about a handset issue and then being told "it is the battery", when I had already bought a new battery for it (as I assumed this was the problem).
Paying for a contract but having no phone for a month while the handset was sent away to be fixed under warranty and then being without it for an extra week when they can't even be bothered to let you know it is back from repairs.
Getting your supposedly "newly replaced" phone home and trying to charge it and realising that it is no different to the one you sent in for repairs over a month ago.
Realising that you'll be without your phone for another month or more with no guarantee it will work when you get it or a claimed new replacement back...
As soon as I am out of contract Vodafone will NEVER get my business again!

13584 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Unimaginably incompetent at 21 Jan 2011 09:12:21 AM
I switched to vodafone from 3 because they were the only company to offer the handset I wanted. When I got my new phone they said it would take a few hours for my number to transfer from my old sim to the new sim, however within about half an hour I noticed the 3 mobile sim was no longer active. So naturally I was rather excited. I booted up my new phone with vodafone sim included and waited for my number to activate... and I waited. After a couple of hours I thought it was getting a tad ridiculous but I couldn't go back to the store because they had closed for the day so I called the good old help line. After holding for what seemed like an eternity (close to 45 minutes) someone finally told me that it was likely a manufacturing fault and told me to take my phone in to the vodafone store the next day to verify. I did this and someone with the same handset as me traded sim cards and you guessed it, the phone was working fine but my sim wasn't. So what they did was give me a new sim and transferred my number accross, saying it would be 2-3 hours before it transferred again. I waited about 6 hours before I contacted the vodafone "customer service" again and explained my story and he said he'd have to consult some other people and get back to me. They got back to me the next day and asked me if I'd tested the phone etc (as I had already explained to them I had done) and when I reiterated my frustration he said he'd have to consult some other technical staff who could not be contacted til the next day, but he assured me I would be contacted.
To this guy's credit he did get back to me and he explained that there was a problem with my account... it had not been activated by vodafone staff. He assured me that it would be up and running by that evening and took it upon himself to get this done. It was not, so I called them back and was just given generic instructions to reset my handset and try again, etc. Still no luck. The next day when I woke up I finally had service, an entire 4 days with no service and this came for me at a time when I had recently moved to a new city without a job. I could not organise my job interviews or anything and I explained this to the vodafone staff and eventually I was given the royal bounty of the first months fee waived from my contract. Hardly a just reward. Anyway, the story doesn't entirely end there, but I won't go into as much detail.
Although I could now make and receive calls I did not have my full service activated. I was still unable to send or receive mms and had no internet connection. I called "customer service" again and held for close to 40 minutes before being walked through setting my phone up and then being told my service would be activated a short while after hanging up. Anyway, long story was it hadn't. So I called again and whoever I had spoken to hadn't activated whatever they needed to on their end, but this issue was fixed this time.
In addition to all this about 50% of the time I make calls from home I get a bad line where either I can not hear what is being said or the person I'm talking to can't hear what I'm saying. Sometime when I send sms messages it fails many times before it finally sends and on odd occasions it sends multiple messages, I've had upwards of 10 duplicate messages sent.
The funny thing after all this I received my first bill and it was for the full amount. I had to contact them again and remind them they owed me a month but I didn't bother to call them this time, I just emailed them.
One thing is for certain, the next time I buy a phone I'll make sure it's from a different provider.

I took out a contract for a mobile 3G broadband stick last year. It's only ever worked badly (despite living less than 3km from the nearest tower). Vodafail won't let me cancel the contract and instead I'm lumped paying $49.95 a month until the contract finishes. HATE!

Whenever I go inside a building, that's it. No reception. I usually have to be a few metres away from a building to get any reception at all. Not very convenient if you have to make an important call regarding something INSIDE THE BUILDING that you need to stay close to, hm? I can't even use my phone in my own house. Usually I have to wonder around to find those 'special' pockets of reception that are few and far between. If someone calls or texts, I won't know anything about it until I go outside. The only exception is when I'm in the city. How can the reception be so different 20 minutes drive away?
13558 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Very poor reception - calls just drop out at 21 Jan 2011 09:03:58 AM
Live just 1 hour north of Brisbane. I and my 2 sons are all with vodafone did this to support their sponsorship of motor racing. Our reception is pathetic. If there is a tree or anything else in the area there is no reception.... Even in our house we have to go outside to either send or receive calls. When people visit who are with other Telecos they are able to receive calls etc. Have also been having problems with calls just dropping out, You then have to recall them which makes Vodafone more money. Not a bad ploy...........

Vodafail have no idea on how to treat customers, or even produce any kind of customer service what-so-ever. I have no reception at my house. The phone is continously dropping out with no reception (in the middle of the city), with calls and internet (called at least 10 times in regardss to the interent!!) on phone. SICK TO DEATH of speaking to people I CANNOT understand (WHERE IS THE AUSSIE SPIRIT..!!) Trying to get something done.. and they offer an additional INTERNET SERVICE! Seriously guys.. you cant get one thing operating.. WHY IN GODS NAME WOULD I WANT ANOTHER..

I recently purchased a new phone contract through Vodafail, after having pre paid with Vodafone for a couple of years. This prepaid was costing me a maximum of $79/month, every month. I was told that by going on a plan with my new phone with a $69 cap that the calls would be much less and that it would be a lot more economical for me. For the first three months...fine, but now all of a sudden they are saying that I have gone $260 over my cap, and I have not made any more calls than usual, and being in Real Estate in Qld my phone does not ring all that often ! I also got this new phone to enable me to access emails, but after several Indians telling me that my phone is connected to the internet, and should be receiving emails, and have internet access, I still only have a standard phone with no internet access at all. I took it into the Vodafone store, and because I had purchased it directly from Vodafone by phone, they did not want to help, and said that they did not know how to set up email or internet access on my phone. I have sent numerous emails re my account and my internet access but with no success. I find that they are very prompt in asking for their accounts to be paid, but in nothing else.

Signed a contract in August 2010, $99 unlimited plan with 3GB of data. Can hardly use the data as most of the time my phone says "data connection lost". I have to continually restart the browser and try to get where I am going. What is the point of 3GB when you cannot even use a fraction of it effectively?

After 3 hours on hold with Vodaphone regarding the above issues and being passed and dropped and passed and dropped, I decided - screw this,I'm going to email and they can call me. 5 emails later and 6 weeks, no call. I have no reception while at my house or my parents house, my partner is self employed and constantly misses calls regarding jobs because of reception coverage, I cancelled his plan months because of the lack of reception and told the customer service team that and they said there was nothing they could do, only now to be told they should have let us out of the contact instead of me paying $400 for the service to be cancelled because of the lack of range. Their company is a joke, and I can't see it getting any better for me in the short term, considering we are not pushing the 2 month mark and no answers.

My husband purchased a phone (from Officeworks) which was locked to vodaphone even though the salesperson assured him it could be used with other networks. The only option then was to pay the $50 to unlock it. Unfortunately the instructions did not work. I then called vodaphone and was on hold for 1hr 40mins to an overseas call centre. When I finally got an operator she was of no help - all she had to do was to walk me through the instructions to see if it would work but reading from a set call centre script will never give you high levels of customer service. She asked how many times I had tried to enter the code (twice) and then said possibly that was too many times and I would then need to send my phone to Nokia to have it unlocked. After much patience and perserverance on my part I was able to obtain additional instructions from her and the phone has been unlocked. Had I not perservered I would have been left with a useless Christmas present. Given my experience with Vodaphone I would never consider using their network or services.

13415 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Competence vs Greed at 21 Jan 2011 08:08:02 AM
I have been a Vodafone AU customer for over 2.5 yrs...
Generally, I would rate their overall performance as limited to poor...
Initially I had issues with 3G USB modem (provided by VF) connectivity, which would successfully establish a connection to the local tower, but then not forwarding any traffic (unable to ping VF DNS or WWW IP's) beyond the gateway (but was still able to ping the 3G gateway address)...
Logged an ongoing fault (problem) with VF (got (Ciaro of all places) which got followed up initially with a call but then several mths later, once again with a call requesting authority to close the job..?? (No resolution and no info even suggesting VF understood the issue)
I find the 3G voice network also randomly drops calls in the Brisbane CBD distrcit, most often when I am busy and least need it..!!
Generally my "gut" feel on Vodafone is that they have the potential and competence to run a high-end reliable network, but the level oversubscription model employed across their infrastructure platforms for voice and data is less than acceptable...
The underlying cause of this I strongly believe to be the VF business model...
VF AU (perhaps internationally) runs on the premise of an enormous debt facility, so the business model essentially pushes the capability boundaries of the underlying infrastructure (+ traffic engineering QoS/Tos) models) to ensure maximum revenue streams support this debt facility, thus providing end-users of the consolidated network services a poor, unreliable quality of technical service alongside a complete disregard for the supporting services, again, the employment of automated IVR systems etc to minimise staffing overheads, why, again to reduce the debt facility....
At the end of the day, I think VF actually can competently provide the services they claim to sell, but they need to investigate their underlying business models and the underlying technical infrastructure to find a "happy medium" that allows them to support the debt facility they require to offer services (which may need to be reduced) while providing consumers of the services a reliable and satisfactory level of service...
I am an ICT Analyst with aN Network Engineering background in Telecommunications and would be happy to work with the executives at VF to investigate and analyse the current VF business metrics and identify strategies to return VF Service Consumption into an uplifting experince for their consumer base..!!!
My name is Morgen Lofting and can be contacted on www.likedin.com.au...
Have a great day...

I'm seriously ill so I'm home a lot and have zero coverage about 90% of the time. When I went interstate for treatment I couldn't call home from my mobile because I got a message from Optus saying my home phone was disconnected???? Some text messages take 3-4 days to be received. I have complained and was told it was my handset or my sim card as I can't afford to replace either I am just waiting for my contract to end so I can get away from Vodafone. Let's not mention the constant billing stuff ups and of course they were all in Vodafone's favour too including billing for things I never even asked for like internet access for my 80 year old father who can't even figure out an ATM.

13356 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Useless at 21 Jan 2011 07:50:08 AM
I have both an Iphone and a 3G wi-fi dongle with Vodafone.
With the Iphone trying to access the internet, especially in the evenings, is pointless as it will just hang and time-out despite the fact that I am in a metropolitan area and I normally have 3 or 4 bars of network coverage. I frequently suffer from delayed or undelivered received texts and I am often told that any call made to me goes straight to voicemail, which I may only receive after a couple of days. When trying to send a text the phone will normally hang before displaying that the message couldn't be sent in which case I have to disconnect from the network (which can take a couple of minutes) and then re-connect. The same goes for placing phone calls, sometimes it will just hang and when you try to disconnect so that you can re-try it freezes the phone.
On the 3G internet side I am experiencing very similar issues. Particularly in the evenings my internet connection will give up. The software suggests that I am still connected but it will also show that the data transfer rate is 0 bits/s. Again the only way to get back on is to disconnect and then re-connect. I may have to do this every few minutes.
Out of metropolitan areas the coverage is woeful, my Telstra work mobile is far superior.
Like a lot of people here I didn't realise that my problem was so widespread. I'm glad that I'm not the only one as with more voices we should be able to get a suitable solution.

I also get txts 2 days latter, a few times i got txts 24 hours latter while talking to the person who sent it. I often get call failed when trying to ring someone and often give up trying to ring. I also have problems connecting to the net which keeps telling me I need to check my connections. When i lived in NZ i did get the same problems but since living in Australia I have had so many problems with my vodaphone and enternet connections. When i purchased my USB stick i had problems connecting to the net and was told by vodaphone shop that there was some thing wrong with my computer when i did take my computer in to get looked at i was told that it was the USB stick and that it had a weak signal Vodafail refused to replace it so i got to keep it. I have reducing phone coverage - coverage is dropping out in more places now than when we first signed up, continue to get my calls disconnected - how on earth can you ever put a figure on this when we use our mobiles for our business. It is frustrating and causes many arguments between my husband and myself. I am totally fed up with Vodaphone - and to top it all off they cancelled my business plan back in August and my bills were over $1000 per month - and it wasn't until I rang to find out why - no explanation was given why it was cancelled. Been using Vodafone for about 9 years I moved from Brisbane to just outside Toowoomba thought it was just my old phone because it was pre 3G bought a new phone last year on contract it has all bells and whistles ,still had problems so then thought it may just be because of where I lived but others on different networks had reception. I called vodafone a few months ago and was put on hold for ages as well. I complained about the constant drop outs and delayed SMS messages that remain in the outbox and are not sent unless I physically resend. Reception can be shocking, no service it comes and goes all the time. I make 1 call and then the network is unavailable. Its crazy. You call and you can't even talk to an Aussie. They told me the same as they have been telling everyone else. It was my phone. There is nothing wrong with my phone. I used to be proud of being with vodafone and now I am embarrassed. After being with 3 for two years, they were prefect. Never had a issue or anything, when my contract ran out, i was eager to sign up again with 3 only to find that they were changing over to vodafone, but was assured that everything would be the same, only billed through vodafone now. Since signing over to Vodafone in mid November 2010, I have had my phone replace twice already as problems with no service or wont call and constent freezing. And my partner is also with Vodafone, signing up from Telstra, on the same phone same plan four days after me, and has had the same problems - Having his phone replaced, he doesn't seem to get some messages from me or me from him. I don't know weather it just wont send to any other Vodafone customers, but the frustration, and the problems we go through thinking one of us is in trouble when no response, or ignoring the other is very frustrating. I never had this problem with 3 and he never had a problem with Telstra. If I could, I would cancel my contract and change to another network, as this is just appualing of a large network to be so slack like this. Get your act together Vodafone, and get these problems sorted as you are NOT holding up your end of the contract here by suppling me with me paid goods.!!
21 Jan 2011 08:32:03 AM: Ditto. Since the Vodafone took over 3, all the people I know on 3 have experienced severe network issues, with phones failing to have any signal, or locking to G (GSM/GPRS only) and refusing to go back to 3G/HSDPA. It has got so bad that we have been forced to try to make our phones roam to Telstra prior to using the Vodafone network, as this is more reliable.

I have been a vodafone user for over two years. I have experienced constant drop out of conversations over this time. Only recently have I become aware that not everyone experiences this. In my current area of operation (Airlie Beach) I find that my mobile phone has no coverage in areas that other provider's phones have full coverage. I also find that sms's tend to arrive at 3.00am regardless of when they have been sent. I attempted to get out of my contract but received no help from Crazy John's, we sign you up but do not support you, and after a protracted telephone wait (6 hours over two days)with Vodafone, I was offered a reduced tariff on my contract for two months but was told that I could not get out of my contract without suffering a penalty for the handpiece that I have. Although polite, Vodafone have left me in no doubt that I cannot get out of my contract. There were vague assertions that the coverage would improve in this area but have seen no evidence of this.

I have noticed that over the last 6 months I have had very poor network coverage on my Vodafone mobile. I have noticed that when my phone uses 3G for reception it fails 90% of the time, although if it drops back to 2G I seem to have no problems.I have been with Vodafone for well over 10 years and the network coverage has decreased in that time by at least 40%. I also suffer from sudden drop outs as well but had put that down to me using a Nokia "Smart Phone" (N97), but surely Vodaphone can't blame it on every mobile phone on the market.

I think Vodafone have a great marketing team which is a great success but the service, coverage and the genral product they offer to customers is very poor.

As sent to Vodafone complaints email- I am appalled, I used to be proud to be with Vodafone. We had been with 3 which has now merged with Vodafone, we then came to Vodafone to get Apple Iphones. We have had our accounts for almost 3 months now and have not gotten a bill- I recieved an SMS telling me to go to online billing and 2 days later my wife and I both had our phones blocked. I have spent over an hour on the phone to different departments. in this time I have put through 2 payments of $200 to both accounts, after much difficulty in speaking to a real person regarding making a payment for my wife's account to remove the call barring which would take 2 to 3 hours... or so I was told by one of your consultants "Sylvester". I then spoke with Chanduk who is supposedly Sylvester's supervisor who tried to assist me with your AVA LVR whatever automated phone billing system... after 4 attempts he could not access it properly. I tried again 15 minutes later ( approximately 4.20pm QLD time). My wife got an SMS advising her they had tried calling at 6.50pm QLD time- she called them back at 7.15pm QLD time and has not been able to speak to a human voice, or remove the call barring. To think a major international company like Vodafone has no after hours support and only runs it's support network to Sydney/Melbourne time is disgusting... I would hate to be a Vodafone customer in Perth which would lose an extra 2 hours on us in QLD. My frustration is compounded by the fact I finally got through to someone at 7.57pm QLD time to your business support number.... I spoke to a real person who in turn after my frustrated explanation put me on hold- I specifically said to him " if you put me on hold to transfer me please make sure you put me on to a real person" I type this at 8.15pm QLD time while I am still on hold.... what an absolute F$%king joke!!. You don't send bills and when I do pay the bills you still block my wife's phone service. The mobile coverage in our suburb is "erratic" at best and with this sort of customer support (or lack of) makes me wonder what the media would think after your recent negative publicity.
I would appreciate a full apology to my wife for the lack of service, and I should also send an invoice for 2 hours of my time and frustration that I have spent attempting to speak rationally to an AUSTRALIAN BASED VODAFONE CUSTOMER SUPPORT REPRESENTATIVE..

On our first bill, they charged us for our so called FREE wireless device - when i rang up and finally got through after being on hold for what seemed forever and passed to several different departments, they told me it was a once-off fee (but couldnt tell me what for), and that it wont happen again.
And to my amazement - there it was again on the second bill!!
I am still waiting on my credit to be returned for this as they cant seem to add it to my bill. This is just the minor issues we have with Vodafone. Dont even get me started on the coverage - cus apparently its MY computer that has a problem, and no reason why there isnt a coverage signal!

13178 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Very disappointed at 21 Jan 2011 06:32:13 AM
We are a small business with a fleet of mobile phones currently with Vodafone. We originally signed up with 3 but when we did not have coverage from our home office, we were transferred over to Vodafone with the assurance by the Business Sales Rep that we wouldn't have coverage issues. The coverage did improve marginally, but all of our phones have constant drop outs, no service, delayed messages and generally very poor reception. We have had customers tell us when they eventually get us on the phone that they couldn't contact us and it wasn't diverting to message bank! Unfortunately, we signed up for 2 years so I very concerned about how much our business is going to suffer financially in the next 2 years.
I believe that there have been some major misrepresentations made by the Vodafone Sales Rep about the coverage and quality of the service. Definite breaches of the Trade Practices Act!!!

I never really thought that I had a problem until this news about Vodaphone surfaced. I hardly use my mobile, only in emergencies, or recently when I moved house. But my pain is similiar to others. My mobile would drop out constanty, requiring me to ring again, again and again, or my caller having to do the same.
As to retreiving my message on the 121 number, sometimes I would have to ring this number between 5-10 times in row just to get the message.

13173 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is 40% at 21 Jan 2011 06:29:33 AM
I just assumed that Vodafone, being a smaller telco, had less coverage and I just had to deal with it. I miss the days when I lived in New Zealand, where Telecom NZ let you dial a certain number so you could reconnect to a dropped call and get a minute free!!
I don't make lots of calls, but the calls I do make are mostly poor in quality, with people on the other end asking me to repeat a lot of things, or are unable to hear me well at all. It doesn't matter where I am; in the city, on the road, or at home. When people I talk to ask what carrier I'm with, I say Vodafone, which is invariably followed with, "Oh, I see", in an understanding, sympathetic tone. It's embarrassing sometimes.
TXT messages are rarely an issue, and I communicate mostly via that method, but I know I use txt's more that I would normally because I feel like making a call is just too painful if I'm worried about call quality when I'm calling a customer, for example. I'm only 6 months in business and I've been using pre-pay, but now I need to go on a plan due to pre-pay costing me the earth, and then some. I've delayed going on a plan purely due to concerns with being stuck in a 2 year contract and having rubbish service.
Since Vodafail came into existence, I've bee keeping an eye on quality issues and I can confidently say, there are two main issues for me. 3G internet can be slow to start and transfer a few kilobytes of data (I only check Gmail and my business mail), and call quality is mostly abysmal.
Thanks to the publicity surrounding Vodafail, I now know those issues are widespread and I assume I'm similar to many people in thinking those issues were symptomatic of not being with Telstra, or other larger telco.
I used to work in a call center for Telecom NZ, so I instinctively knew calling to complain would be a waste of breath and time as call centers and their staff are not set up to deal with such issues. Besides, the 45 minutes it took the last time I called Vodafone to sort out a simple roaming issue was an extremely painful 45 minutes of my life, so I rarely call Vodafone unless I have a really simplistic inquiry!

New customer on 24 month contract. Continual dropped calls. Having to stand in certain spots in the house to make or receive a call so I can actually hear the person. Was talked into changing from virgin to vodafone by an all phones sales person because of great deal plan. Took 4 days and 6 phone calls for phone to be activated. 2 months down the track still no bill so rang vodafone and they had sent it to a rental address of 8 years previous and was charging me late fees and fee for a paper bill. After a very frustrating half hour on phone with a vodafone person, I was relieved of the extra charges and told an email would come through with updated details and the correct bills and amounts to pay - 3 days later they arrived - not updated or amended. I then went into my account online and my billing address and details still had not been changed or updated. I am still very confused and worried as to how they had an address on record of 8 years previous when I have only ever used telstra and virgin phone companies and have had three other addresses since.

13139 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is poor at 21 Jan 2011 05:52:07 AM
I have been with Vodafone for 10 year and on my last 2 upgrades I have had offeres of 6 months at half price from the 4th to the tenth month to keep me happy as a customer. The first time I never received them and after a lengthy 40minute session on the phone where I was told that the female that sold me the phone had not promised me anything only for me to tell them that the person who resigned me was actally a male. So they eventually agreed to reduce my next series of bills by the amount of 6 half months. Since then I have had service issues where my calls drop out and I have also resigned with them about 5 months ago and they have offered a similar 6 months at half price and it has not shown on my fourth and fifth month bills so here we go again. I have had text messages not get to clients regularly and some clients cannot text my phone as it fails every time. During the flooding in Brisbane I did not receive calls for 3 hours so I did not realise that most of my clients were not coming for fear of flooding. My text messages still randomly don't get to clients or I do not receive their texts and my calls drop out at an alarming rate especially vodafone to vodafone.

Was with vodafone for a few years. Fed up with shoddy waiting times to talk to customer service and bad coverage, I transferred my number to Telstra. Changed my address with them for final bill. My mail was forwarded for 12months in July 2005 and another 3 in July 06. I cancelled in Sept 06 with Vodafone. For 4 months, they were texting me asking me to rejoin Vodafone with special offers, promotions. In Jan, 07 I opened a nasty letter from a collections co saying I had been defaulted and to pay $176.00. When I rang Vodafone for a please explain and asking why Vodafone had not taken any measure to ring my phone or text me if they could take the time to send me promotional texts and why my address had not been changed when I expressly told them the response was in a foreign accent "Madame, we cannot ring everybody" I was really pissed and tied numerous time with their collections co to have my default removed all to no avail. I got a letter from them stating I had paid but it was too late for my credit file! It has come up in any loan I have applied for an I have been knocked back by my own bank recently for a home loan as they said it was the Vodafone default. It's always Vodafone" my manager stated and shook her head. I rang PDR last year (their collections co)6 times in October. The issue is being looked at with our legal team madame. We will call you tomorrow" Each time no one has called! Another bank has approved our loan as they have seen the sense in my explanation which has always been extensive, emabarrassing and unecessary if they had just got their act together in the first place! They should be shut down. I'm a nurse, mum of four, have no other default ever on my file! They have caused me so much grief, I feel like suing! Vodafone is VODAPATHETIC! Thanks for listening and this great website. Louise.

I have 3 Vodafones. One phone has been with them for 10 years. Coverage has dropped in Ashmore Qld so that I can no longer get reception in parts of my home and no reception at all in my office at Loganholme.
We used to get good coverage.
So something is up and has been since begining of December.
I was told by Vodafone staff that an up grade was happening in Ashmore and would be fixed in 2 weeks. It is now nearly 7 weeks.

After moving from Albion Qld 4010 where I had fair VF reception (some patchy calls and data but rarely a dropout) I have now moved to Banyo Qld 4014. Here on my phone I get almost zero reception and MMS arive days late if at all. Data wise I can barely connect to the network with the wireless USB, let alone refresh a website.
I am in the 3rd biggest city in one of the world's most developed nations!! How can a carrier's signal and infrastructure be so terrible? I was with vodafone from 2001 - 2007 and had great service back then. I changed to 3 to get wireless data. No surprise once 3 (hutch) was taken over by VF things went downhill service wise. The move back to VF in 2010 was for larger data use. What a mistake!!
All round fail.

12959 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Its PAINFUL at 18 Jan 2011 09:38:28 PM
On a 24 month contract, i really wish i hadn't bothered!! The cap plans offer great value......but that is all. I live on the sunshine coast and where i live and work has really poor coverage, i wont even talk about data service.....everything is just PAINFUL with Vodafone. i constantly have NO SERVICE indicated on my iPhone and having spoken to the Technical issues department (after waiting for anywhere between 45-60mins) i just feel like it will never improve. i have 14 months left of this.......HELP!!!!!!
19 Jan 2011 09:23:54 AM: Wouldnt you be in bridge with your contract?
19 Jan 2011 11:42:40 AM: Complain to Vodafone tell them you want to cancel your contract. They will tell you there will be a fee etc and that it must be your handset. Then when you are not happy with their response contact the telecommunications Omudsmen http://www.tio.com.au/ put in a complaint and an Australian rep will call you back and let you out of your contract with the option to buy your phone.
12956 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is horrible at 18 Jan 2011 08:58:25 PM
Can't login to MyVodafone. No method available to check how much data I've used or how much credit I have left on the plan. Cannot contact vodafone customer service. Terrible coverage. Facebook is extremely slow: that's when it loads.

I have complained/ attempted to complain to them since I took out a contract 15 months ago for them to provide me with a mobile phone service in inner Brisbane.
Every call is approx 50 mins then it either rings out or I run out of time or they suggested I go to a store.
So 3 or 4 visits to a store some distance away and in the shopping centre 1 of their stores doesn't have mobile coverage unless you step out to the door or beyond !!
At those visits they agreed they had not seen the SMS screen message I was getting 20 or more times per day of "network Lost" . After the 13 month mark 1 consultant suggested it was actually the fault of the iPhone . Within 5 mins I called the iPhone store and had to agree to pay $39 for some prolonged assistance. That was because one of my complaints besides not having mobile service inside my riverside unit in Brisbane, was not being able to sync my phone with a computer because of various messages that they also couldn't explain.
My biggest complaint is the No Service I get in any drive around the city, several times.

12947 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is is a candidate for bankruptcy at 18 Jan 2011 06:21:18 PM
Third attempt to recharge my prepaid mobile on the internet. After hitting the submit button an error quickly comes up to say "please close the browser and try again or try calling 1555 to recharge". I can't break my contract because I have to pay $300. My contract finish on 31 Jan 2012. After my contract I am changing my ISP to Amaysim and my phone to Skpe.
18 Jan 2011 07:29:06 PM: Iam a little confused you say you are on prepay but it will cost yopu $300 to break your contract, this seems a little contradictory.
18 Jan 2011 08:52:47 PM: Probably has two accounts with Vodafone, phone on contract and mobile broadband on prepay. Vodafone wont let the customer recharge. The customer wants to switch telcos, but has $300 to pay if he/she ends the contract. TIO all the way. How to complain section.
