Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

3444 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is EPIC FAIL! at 27 Dec 2010 04:12:09 PM
I made the mistake of taking 3 contracts, 1 for me, and 2 weeks later, 2 for my sons. Constant call drop outs are my main complaint - many times a day i would recieve calls, only to lose them, or not be able to make calls at all, and when we had the fixed drop out for hours a few weeks ago, I made numerous calls, only to have customer service drop my calls (and they wernt from my mobile!) My sons were left stranded on that day, and I had no way of finding where they were - and when I rang to complain, all Ive had is "very busy, try again later". Due to the reasons I need MY mobile, I cancelled my contract, at a hefty price, which wasnt discounted due to my reasons or unsatisfaction. If I could afford to, id be cancelling the other 2 straight away, but this isnt an option.
I have tried to call, but can never get a person on the phone (the longest I waited was 43 minutes) and my emails to complaints dept have been ignored - no response.
Upgrades have been in the works for so long, but as far as Im concerned, its too little, too late -

Well i am a customer of Voda threw mobile and internet, I have made several complaints about my internet service to many of their customer team members and they still refuse to do anything about making myself as a customer a satisfied person, only reason i am still with them is cause i am on a contract and i deff will not continue with this company after my contract has ceased.
When i 1st applied for the internet i asked the customer service member what the reception would be like in the area which i live and she replied me excellent and u will be very satisfied, little did i know that was a very un true answer and i have had nothn but poor 2 very poor service since being on the vodaphone contract..Great site 2 complain cause there is no real point in callin them cause not only dont they listen but they dont do anything to make the customer happy and want to stay with them, but quite often i have had the vodaphone team member close the call on me...I HATE VODAPHONE and i can not wait till my contract is over...Thanx!!!

Calls have been dropping out have no coverage at all. Don't receive phone messages! As I rely on my phone for work having no reception or not receiving messages has caused me loss of work and money. Received no help from Vodafone just put through to a call centre who can't/unwilling to help or understand the issues.

I live and work in Redfern - although my apartment is on the top floor and am a Three client - since Vodaphone took over 3 my wireless internet drops out each time I go on line, in addition, my mobile (also 3) does not work in my apartment - to receive calls it is necessary for me to go outside!! Extremely frustrating, only wish I had not signed a contract with 3.
27 Dec 2010 04:16:17 PM: I live close by too and have exactly the same issues with 3. Messages not sent, constant drop outs and very slow and frustarting internet.

Over the last 2 weeks there has been at least 3 days where I havent had any signal and as I live in country WA I usually have to stand in the middle of a road just to get a decent enough signal to have a conversation it's completely unacceptable.

I lived in South Yarra in Melbourne and the range was terrible. Every call dropped out after a few minutes. Imagine the amount of money they are making. When I moved to Paddington in Sydney a few months ago I was experiencing the same problem. I got better reception from overseas providers when I was trekking the Himalayas or canoeing along the Mekong Delta. I decided to change from Vodafone a few weeks ago and have noticed a MASSIVE improvement. But I wonder how many of my hard earned dollars did Vodafone take away from me....
20 Jan 2011 01:57:32 PM: As many as they could?
And the pain may not end there. They are required to keep you details for years- so if anyone's been illegally using your credit card details, tell the Credit card provider that you have been a Vodafone customer.

My husband works 10 mins from where I live and every time he rings me he get a "Network Service unavailable" or "this number is not connected". I live in Corrimal and my husband works 3 suburbs away in Bulli. What the heck..... My calls drop out and i am only on a $30 pre pay so I have to make 2 calls instead of 1...very annoying. Another problem I have is my service drops out completely so I get the "Emergency Calls Only" for anything up to 2 hours at a time. Bad luck if I need to make a call urgently to my husband or 1 of my 3 kids.. Just about had enough Vodafone......fix it or I'm gone and I have been a loyal custumer for 8 years now ... Shame on you !!!!!!!!!!!

I joined vodafone about 4 months ago, firstly they put me on an old contract with less credit and downloads and when I finally spoke to someone to complain they said it was the salespersons fault but they couldn't correct it until the next month..no apology, no offer of reimbursement for lost date and credit.
The first month my data was fast and quite good so I increased it with another 3g now I can't even use 3g because nothing opens and I have had to pay money to another provider to use the internet.

After two years of paying $115.00 per month for what was originally a $79 Cap, i dropped my Iphone. Ofcourse, the screen cracked. After being told to take out handset insurance when i had signed up incase that very thing happened, i was told by a Vodafone rep after a 40 minute wait on hold, that no, handset insurance does not cover a cracked screen. Then to be further told that it would cost $150.00, and my phone would be sent away "for a week or two". The level of "customer service" (term used lightly), is so poor. McDonalds probably has better service. Jeez, thanks Vodafone, my loyalty over the past 15 years has obviously been appreciated by the company! Anyway, plan is up in 2 months, so i shall be changing networks!

3433 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is fails regularly at 27 Dec 2010 04:11:30 PM
I pay Vodafone $130 a month but I'm not sure what I am paying for as their service regularly drops out and prevents me from making calls. I have been experiencing trouble in Sydney for months. At one point, I was unable to make any calls at all for a full week. Thanks for nothing Vodafone. I hope the class action is successful. I would love to cancel my contract but that would mean giving them more of my money.
Another problem I would like to highlight is their crappy customer service. You are forced to wait on hold for at least 20 minutes and the staff usually are unable to solve the problem. I then tried an email form and that took one week for a reply which was generic anyway. On MyVodafone I cannot access my past bills and noone seems to be able to help me, but magically their payment system never fails! Vodafone you suck.

My bills are always too much my reception and drop out phone calls are a joke! My simcard when getting the new iPhone 4 failed 3 times and I was not reimbursed for any of my troubles, vodafone should be sued or take this serious and make there customers happy!!

NO reception ANYWHERE, i don't receive texts until the day after they are sent, and same for sending texts.

I can't make a fucking decent phone call to anyone, the reception always cuts me off and theres no chance of me ever accessing mobile internet through it either. I would be dreaming if i thought it would work.

Ridiculous service and a damn rip off. Good on you for taking action. Its unfair to all us customers who have to pay them for a service we dont fucking get.

3430 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Extremely Poor Reception at 27 Dec 2010 04:11:14 PM
For many months I had my phone connected to a vodafone service. We live in Metford and had no bars on our reception. Vodafone offices still continue to sell phones in our area where the reception is poor. Because I had such poor reception I went into the Greenhills store and told them that they ethically should not sell phones to people who live in the Metford area as no reception exists. The customer service officer seemed non plussed. I believe that they still sell phones to customers living in Metford. Moved to Telstra and reception is full.

So sick of Vodafone Customer Service. They put you on Hold for over 40mins, Then the line cuts out, or should i say they hang up, so you call back get put on hold for another 40mins, finally when someone from INDIA answers they don't even know what you want and really don't get what you want done.. they think that we have nothing better to do than to be put on hold for such a long time.... not including stuffing up my bill so many times. Seriously hate Vodafone will never consider joining up with them ever again.

I have been with Vodafone for going on two years, I was told when I first enquired about vodafone that I could get reception in this 3G area. Yes I could for my internet, somedays every 2 minutes it would drop out and I would have to reconnect. Some days it would stay on for a couple of hours when i tried to contact someone to find out whats wrong ,some Indian would answer and i couldnt understand him. When I went to their shop in Cairns, I was told they couldn't help I had to ring up support, back to square 1. Same with my phone, I'm trying to start a business and the connection is ratshit I try to talk to my girlfreind and it keeps dropping out. I am paying for a service, no matter how much you pay you should get a service... Does'nt this lean to FRAUD????

My service is through Think Mobile. They use Vodafone. I rarely have coverage, but I pay monthly, without fail. I am a sole parent with two children. In the event of a blackout, I need my mobile phone to be working. It usually doesn't. I am told that if I go to Telstra, I'll have coverage everywhere. I'll also have sky-rocketing bills. Telstra charges over and above everyone else. I think that any carrier I go through should be able to guarantee good coverage.

Continual loss of service in various Brisbane metropolitan areas, phone calls dropping out, internet usage on phone incredibly slow or non existent due to no coverage,(I dont even bother using it now), once again in most Brisbane metropolitan areas where I should have coverage. Whilst living at Graceville I didnt have service in most of the rooms in my house apart from the back deck while I stood on a railing. Have missed numerous texts of importance only to find out they had been sent several days previously. They convinced me to enter a new contract and recommended a Sony ericsson xperia over the iphone4 that I wanted, (most of my friends have them in either the telstra or optus networks and experience no problems). Its the worst phone Ive ever had, but they offered me my first three monthly bills for free So I stupidly took it. Then of course they continued billing me until I complained. Now stuck with a rubbish phone, with terrible coverage for calls, texts and especially internet for the next 2 years!!!! Previously had vodaphone wireless USB broadband but gave me no service when I lived in a inner city Brisbane suburb, had to sign with another provider for internet. Incredibly frustrating calls to customer service with people who I either cant understand or they cant understand me. Have been a customer for over 10 years and its never been as bad as it is now!

I have recently had to contact the Telecommunications Ombudsmen in regards to an excessive phone bill which had a myriad of errors - Granted - After contacting the ombudsmen as the call centre in Delhi was unable to provide the customer service required, Vodafone resolved my issues but not until I had been to the endth extreme.

Also, the reception is appalling - I am constantly rainsing my phone to the heavens in a hopr that some form of reception will be received - Maybe through divine intervention but alas ... NO DEAL!

Where to start....
- no reception
- drop outs
- ruuuuude staff (over phone)
- continuous stuff ups with bill payments
- cutting off of phone wihout any notice, or giving notice to pay phone bill or they will cut it off, you pay the bill and then they still decide to cut your phone line

I have had zero coverage, drop outs and basically no service the whole time I have had vodafone, i was bribed initially into being transferred from the even more incredibly poor service of 3MOBILE across to VODAFONE and promised for much better reception and reliable service however this was not to be! Far from!
I refused to pay the final enormous bill of $298 which they said verbally that they would waiver however as it was not in writing i had to then pay it as they transferred the matter to Debt Collections Agency. this Company are bullies and I would be very happy to see justice done to these types of companies as i fear the world will one day suffer dramatically should we allow these problems to exist.

Many thanks for taking the time

I live 10 minutes by car from the epicentre of Perth city. It's a residential suburb (ie no tall buildings on either side blocking signal) and my phone is more often than not, set to 'searching' in the reception bar. Its a freak occurrence for me to actually receive a call in my own home! Which is pathetic, particularly when you are expecting a call regarding job offers. Very disappointed vodafone. Particularly pissed that I have 18 months left on this god damn contract. Will not be coming back, thats for sure.

3390 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Customer Service or Lack Of! at 27 Dec 2010 04:08:09 PM
I was unsatisfied with Vodafones mobile reception and when my contract finished promptly switched to Optus. Now my internet plan has finished I can not seem to talk to someone to close my account.
I was on hold for 13 minutes before a customer service operator from some off-shore call centre answered my call, when they found out the reason for my call I was transfered to the 'cancellation department' 1 hour and 30 minutes later I was still on hold, giving up I tried the number again and spoke with a customer service operator. They informed me someone from the cancellation department will call me in 24 - 36 hours that was 6 days ago.
This sort of service is shocking, not to mention my internet reception problem, I am paying for a fast connection but am getting a slower than dial-up speed connection.
I have spoken to someone about this and they blame it on the merge between 3 and Vodafone, that was in January, it has only gotten worse!
I would happily join a class action and voice my concerns and request compensation for not acually getting the service I sugned up for. Shame on Vodafone!

I called the customer care and they said they would send a report to vodafone and i heard nothing. I also have my internet with them but im just waiting to disconnect that as it will cost me $300. The customer service with crazy john's are also rude and wont do anything.I paid over $150 just to disconnect the mobile i could not use.I would advise people not to deal with 3, crazy john's or vodafone as they are all vodafone service providers.

3385 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Doesn't work and don't want to fix it at 27 Dec 2010 04:08:00 PM
Vodafone's SMTP server is broken for over 4 months and no plans to fix it, and they tell me all I can do is to keep calling them each day (and wait on hold for 1-2 hour before they pick up) and continue to be told "we still don't know". Store staff refuse to help with tech support as the wait is too long for vodafone's technical assistance and they have other things to do. Billing is incorrect each month and I'm charged excess use fees even though I'm still under my cap, after 3 people acknowledge the problem and fail to fix it, the fourth says the problem doesn't exist and I imagined my conversations with the previous 3 support agents as they have no record of it.

After I involved the TIO they released me from my contract and waived remaining bills if I leave the same day, admitting they cannot provide the service they advertised due to network issues. I'm now with Telstra who give me consistently strong signal, fast performance and I can even send emails again.

I am constantly experiencing drop outs. I will be mid call and my phone cuts out. Other times, I will not even be able to connect to make a call!! Ill have a full bars of reception, and yet I cannot make a call! Sometimes, my friends will try and call me and I wont be able to receive the call. Also, my texts are often delayed - I either receive messages well after they are sent, or my friends receive my texts well after I send this. THIS IS A CONSTANT EXPERIENCE. IT IS NOT ONE OFF.

As for my internet - I am often receiving the "no web gateway" or something like that message. I can sometimes try and log on 5-10 times before I get a connection. I CANNOT RELY ON THIS EFFING SERVICE.

I called Vodafone months ago to inform them of this. They advised me that I was suppose to LOG all my issues - dates and times. Then they would consider reporting my issue and tracking it. This was unacceptable. I do not have time to PROVE to Vodafone what type of shit service they are doing. Having come across this website, I was absolutely SHOCKED to find out that these issues are common.

What can I do now?

My Vodafone phone would send multiple copies of the same message to the same person, sometimes for days. This also happens to a friend of mine. It is becoming very annoying to my friends and frankly very embarrassing to me; there are some types of messages that if you send repeatedly they tend to mean something else other than what it was originally meant to read. But this problem also caused me to lose money from all the messages that I did not send; I still keep my vodafone to receive messages and calls but I am using another provider to send messages. Thank you for your site to allow us to voice our complaints because i have never had feed back from the company after making a complain about 6 months ago. It's sad because I have been with this company for a few years now. Sally

In the last three months I beleive i have had to make three connections at least to complete one short call at a time due to constant drop outs. Text messages are arriving sometimes one day after friends sent them. Missed many social activities and caused disarray with family re: children pick ups etc: Why are we expected to foot bills on time for a service that vodafone itself will not address. I am sure the bad pr will hurt them long term and why have they not allowed consumers to cancel plans or offer free service untill correction of network. Shame on you vodafone for using your consumers as a research and development experiment with your hardware and software issue's at our cost. You should be held accountable for the true cost to your consumers including the grief and frustration of getting concise answers from your staff.

3375 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Ultrafail at 27 Dec 2010 04:07:09 PM
Back in August I rang up Vodafone to pay my bill with Visa. Voda took a double payment of $127, and refused to take the hold off the second payment. When I went into the store, they first said they couldn't do anything, and then said if I wanted to contact Voda directly, to expect an hour on hold at least. Two weeks later the BANK released the hold on my account.

To avoid this again, I decided to pay at the post office. I went into the store again to complain that my service had been disconnected. Apparently it takes two weeks for Australia Post payments to clear, and I shouldn't bother calling again.

If I call Vodafone directly from the SIM, I'm still told I need to have the phone number. Of course I don't know the phone number, it's a mobile broadband account. Sometimes I don't always have access to my bills (such as if I'm at work), and then I'm told they can't do anything.

My service sometimes drops out in the city, and I can't get 3G coverage in Mount Gambier or Warrnambool. I can get GPRS but it consistantly drops out.

I am tired of Vodaphone and other large telcos stealing my unused prepay funds by not recharging by the due date. In my case I lost $75. keep recharging or loose all the accumulated free call times. The catch is even tho you have plenty of credit if you dont recharge by the due date you lose all. This is equivalent to old fashioned highwaymen. They are stealing our money. We could have text reminders recharge at least. At most the money we spend is ours and account recharge periods should be at least 6 months. Why not ? ? ? the answer is of course that it serves them to maintain the current system Vodaphone prepay customers forfeit millions. They steal just like the big banks do. Its a corporate disgrace and lacks business integrity.

Constant cut outs / drop outs. No data connection although clearly connected to 3G. Voicemail unavailble over 50% of the itme. Told by sales that I was on an unlimited plan $99 and scored a bill for $250 for one month. Main thing that drives me crazy is erratic coverage. The overall coverage is very limited but even in areas in the direct vicinity of a tower the signal drops out mid conversation. Will be happy to have my contract cancelled but dont want to have to pay the fees to break the contract.

Have had numerous problems with both vodafone (and 3 since their merger).
All started a couple of months ago, got one of their mobile broadband things worked for maybe a month then just refused to connect to the internet. Rang their customer care and all the moron could suggest was to remove the sim card and put it back in each time it didnt work so when he suggested it like a 12th time he couldnt understand why i cracked it and abused him! tried uninstalling it and that still didnt work. Was then told to take it to my local store and they would give me a temporary replacement while they sent it away so went into the store but was told that they couldnt do anything I had to call customer service.
Then got a mobile bill for $1050.00 when i had only used about $60 worth of calls / sms apparently the rest was charges for the internet which I had only used for maybe half an hour one day.
My boyfriend had an iphone with 3 and they tried to charge him $1300 for roaming because there was no reception and we were living in central geelong at that time.
In the end we got sick of fighting with people that just sent us around in circles and called the ombudsman who released us from the contracts, only had to pay $35 for the iphone contract he had as that was the amount of calls that we actually made.
vodafone then tried to overcharge my boyfriends sister as they did to him, once again got the ombudsman involved and got out of the contract only having to pay for the calls that were actually made and not the roaming.

After reception constantly dropping out I made various complaints. I could then not get any reception whatsoever and also could not get any data access as I had 'reached my prepaid limit'. I am not on prepaid.

After I contacted them (only 40 mins on hold), I was advised I would have to call them back later. Was put through to Customer Care (after I asked to be put through to Cancellations) I ended up cancelling my contract and going with Telstra. I was on hold with Vodafone for 1.5 hours with no assistance whatsoever, I was actually told they did not know what to do.

I was with Vodafone for 6 years, my 6 weeks with Telstra has been amazing.
27 Dec 2010 04:43:23 PM: You are very lucky. My experience with Telstra continues to be one characterised by their traditional arrogance as market leader. Recently having had a complaint you cannot even use their service to call when prepay limits expire. There is no number to use .They advise to use the net or use another phone company to call them. How ridiculous. What other company refuses to provide access to their own customer complaints department when you have a problem with service. TELSTRA Bah humbug try lebara little know ,,cheap and wonderful service, great customer entitlements with your account. 3 cents per minute to India for example. My advice
leave the big companies telstra, Voda and Optus. seek out the little compnaies who use the big boy networks in any event.

My daily reception has been so poor that I finally convinced Vodafone to give me a $60 per month credit to put towards a "3" sim card that I use to divert my incoming Vodafone calls due to extremely bad reception, & I have an office in the CBD of Wollongong.
Just this last week I have decided to buy out my contract and take my business elsewhere as the $60 no longer covers my "3" phone costs. How poor. In this day and age that I should have to go to these lengths. And don't get me started about voicemail. In the 3 days to Christmas I was averaging a 1 day lead time for voice messages. 1 whole day to receive the message after it had been left for me.
Internet coverage & 3G, non existent. To get 3G at my home I have to take my phone outside and stand holding the phone outstretched in a South/East direction in my driveway. Who am I? Captain Cook navigating at night???? Not good enough Vodafone. Just not good enough....
You have taken your customer service off shore & have left this local market to fend for itself. You have alienated your staff who man the front line, showered by complaints like mine. They have no support, no answers and no clue. Today I asked a staff member to give me a payout figure and he suggested I simply connect with another service provider and wait for the final bill. What?? Are you serious?
Either get your act together or take your corporate sponsorship and leave these shores.

My mobile reception in South Yarra 2km from Melbourne's CBD drops out every day... People constantly tell me that they call and my iPhone goes directly to voice mail, if I drive anywhere more than 15km from CBD my reception drops out. Also they have over billed me and one time they sent me a letter saying that they didn't bill me for the previous month so I would be double billed in my next billing schedule.

If I try to call customer service I am re-directed to an off-shore company that doesn't understand anything I a saying.

Typical responses, "take the sim card out, have you got coverage on your mobile..." I'm sick and tired of it I want out..!! To cap it all off I was somehow mistakenly placed on outgoing bar for paying my account twice by accident, so I was in credit but to explain this to someone took 3-4 hours of my time, then they bar all my business services....and I could not make any outgoing calls to my fleet...Finally the response I got was that they had made an error and could not understand how the billing system barred my services..well I can understand because I'll be barring voda real soon.

I have a Vodafone prepaid mobile broadband stick which I mainly use whe travelling. I recently topped it up as we were moving house within the ACT to Kambah and did not want to be off the net while bigpond did their shift.

Couldn't get any coverage at the new house however even though it is in the standard coverage map. Called up Vodafone got an Indian guy at the call centre - he had a look at his version of the coverage map and advised me that where we are only has an outside coverage i.e. the modem won't connect to the network from inside the house but might work from outside.

So we went outside with the laptop and tried to connect on the street - needless to say it didn't work but I have a feeling the call centre guy must be having a bit of a chuckle.

Fortunately for me I have only lost the pre paid value but I really feel for those who have signed on for bigger contracts with this company.
