26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

Everytime I am ready to make a call my phone reads as having full coverage (all bars) but when I press the call button it goes down to one bar and either wont connect or when I receive a call it does the same thing. I basically have to play phone tag with whoever is calling me. The same with the mobile internet! Very frustrating!!

11639 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Shocking at 10 Jan 2011 08:17:56 AM
I'm sure I'm only reapeating what everyone else has been saying...continual dropouts, failed connections, voicemail notifications being received days late.

I've been a vodafone customer since they first launched in Australia...come the end of my latest contract I will be moving to another carrier.

What a shame that what was once such a great service and company has been reduced to where they are.

11638 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Hideously bad contact details at 10 Jan 2011 08:16:57 AM
Apart from talking (uselessly) to a robot vodafail's phone numbers don't answer for hours if called, when they do answer it's usually by an offshore heavily foreign accented person who sounds like he learned English from reading comic books or the back of cornflakes packets.

Email is my preferred way to contact people, whether it's friends, family or business. One can write a message, read it prior to sending for correction & then keep a record of what was said. Vodafail has the below message on their site for email contact ---

Contact Us

Apologies, but our email form is temporarily out of order.

To talk with someone directly, please call 1555 from your mobile or 1300 650410 from any other phone.
You may also wish to view our full list of contact numbers for specific enquiries.

Not sure if they ever had an email contact, certainly this has been showing on the site for a very long time. Total disregard for their customers, "Just give us ya money & don't complain because we don't give a shit" is their attitude.
10 Jan 2011 08:24:07 AM: when they do answer it's usually by an offshore heavily foreign accented person who sounds like he learned English from reading comic

Where did you learn yours? from their tutor?
10 Jan 2011 08:34:14 AM: Please keep the comments about accents, English capabilities and offshore locations to a minimum. The point has been made. It's Monday and I want to have a good day. Vodafail.com mod
10 Jan 2011 08:44:35 AM: Hmm this is pretty embarrassing and offensive. Racism won't get you far, friend.
10 Jan 2011 09:08:32 AM: My reply to your replies: Sorry for my choice of words, bit hard to keep emotion out of it when dealing with vodafail. Not being racist & not meaning to have a go really at the poor bastards who are in India trying to earn a living. It's the frustration of dealing with a company in Australia who has no regard for their paying customers & seemingly purposely makes it incredibly difficult to contact them. When finally you do get through all the defenses by being persistent you get answered by a person who has no local understanding of what it could be like to deal with the company that employs him or their customers. He is probably given some training & a script to memorise & left to fend for himself.

The fault is with the management not necessarily the employees.
10 Jan 2011 09:25:35 AM: Thanks for taking the time to reply and the apology, much appreciated. Vodafail.com mod
10 Jan 2011 11:13:57 PM: As an Indian living in Australia reading this forum regularly, this comment disgusts me. I happen to know four languages from growing up there - how many do you know?
11 Jan 2011 09:53:08 AM: In reply to the Indian living in Australia. I am able to communicate in 5 (international) languages. It is obvious VF has no regard for it's paying customers, without being racist I point out that somebody in Mumbai who has never set foot in this country would have no understanding of local nuances & customs, which is obvious from the poor attempts at Australianising their conversations.

As an aside & to introduce a bit of humour: Some time ago an elderly relative of mine asked me to call her phone company to inquire about her phone service problems as she was a bit deaf. The company was Telstra & the help-line was answered by a polite man with a heavy Indian accent & asked him if I had been transferred to an Indian call centre. His reply was bloody hell no I'm in my office in Chatswood, Sydney. We both had a bit of a laugh.

11637 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Reception is crap at 10 Jan 2011 08:13:44 AM
I have too signed up for vodafone thinking it would be a better dealer and coverage and reception wise was good as they tell me. Using my 3G to connect at times is shocking and takes long to load or even not load at all. Fase advertisement and if i knew any better i wouldnt have gone with vodafone. Customer service is shocking too, long waits and you get handball around to get a problem solve and you have to repeat yourself 20 times what the issue is and still it doesnt get solved.

11633 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Poor Reception Mobile & Wireless Internet at 10 Jan 2011 08:10:27 AM
I changed to Vodafone prepaid mobile & wireless internet in Jume 2010 being told by one of the sdalespeople that the coverage for both will be strong. I live in Melbourne my suburb is a very established area and can never get a clear reception on either. Both services are always dropping out and I use both for personal & business reasons. They treat customers with disrespect as well when trying to talk with a customer service rep. They would have to be without any doubt the worst company I have ever dealt with. James

Managed to get a $174.79 credit for data charges overseas as it was explained and roaming activated at the North Sydney store in Greenwood Plaza that calls would come out of my post pay credit then once that was used I would pay on top of that but that wasn't the way it worked. You pay for ALL overseas costs on top of you regular cap.
Well that was back in Sept and the credit was meant to be applied to Oct account, then Nov account and again Dec account balances. It's a monthly process of ringing up and going through it all again and I'm readying myself for this months call.

I have had terrible trouble with call coverage, causing excess voice-mail usage and consequent expense. I am living in the Brisbane area this never happens with my work phone on optus, and I don't think they are much chop either but at least it works..

I have had massive data useage recently. I have had to to manually switch on & off my data connection/synchronisation on applications (HTC magic) as failed attempts to download files/email has caused massive re-attempts and excess data usage.

I receive robotic messages from Vodafone with nonsensical messages. I have never been contacted back after attempts to contact them.

11629 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is MEGA FKN FAIL! at 10 Jan 2011 08:06:42 AM
f*&K me where do I start??? well I will point out the obvious first, their data is seriously so fucked up that dail up internet is faster then this bullshit!!! 2nd, their customer service all based in india and most of the time they dont know what they are talking about and dont give a shit about your problem because I am sure 100's and even 1000's per day call their fuckin call centre in Mumbai, India...
3rd, this recent issue with Vodafone in the news about some security breach, seriously WTF?
I am sure there is a shit load more issues, if I list all of them I am sure I will be typing all fuckin day! fuck I hate vodafone right now....
I am currently on hold at the moment YAY! I swear those fuckers owes me approx 40hrs of my time which I have spent on hold with those sons of bitches!!!
10 Jan 2011 08:48:13 AM: "2nd, their customer service all based in india and most of the time they dont know what they are talking about and dont give a shit about your problem because I am sure 100's and even 1000's per day call their fuckin call centre in Mumbai, India..."

Seriously? That doesn't even make much sense.
They're actually the ones that will help you out of this mess. When will people learn. If you speak to them with this tone, I hope they don't help you. They're working overtime, as are retail staff, to try and resolve as many problems as they can. Get a grip, and lose the racist attitude.

10 Jan 2011 01:19:47 PM: The accents, English capabilities and offshore locations points are actually valid - I have no problem with outsourcing but it's incredibly frustrating speaking with staff who have no flexibility in their responses and don't have the ability to deal with your unique issue. They have the right attitude, but not the skills to be of any use a lot of the time
11 Jan 2011 07:01:22 AM: Let the racism and criticism aside, the fact of the matter is that we are paying a high sum for services that a company can not provide, that is a fact, this is 2011, and we are we going to?, no where... is it that we do not have enough qualified people to run a network in Australia? surely we have, rather than sending business out of australia, in order to evade Taxes, and cut cost, but despite we are still paying for it and big,, 3x $99.99 caps a month,,, only for an individual.(Myself),, think about it!!!

I've only been with Vodafone since October, but already I'm faced with the issues that everybody else seems to be having. Reception is mostly crap in my area and consistently drops from 3 bars hsdpa to 1 bar edge more than 20 times a day. This is just astounding, the reason I moved from three to Voda was to get better reception pfft bad decision. Get your act together Voda or else I'll be getting on my merry way like thousands of others!!

Firstly, who the f*ck names an automated answering service, and equips it with smug casual phrases and a 1-900 phone-sex voice? "HI. I'M LARA... I'M SORRY, I DIDN'T QUITE CATCH THAT. YOU'LL HAVE TO SPEAK MORE CLEARLY...." Am I the only person who wants to find this *Lara* machine and take a sledge hammer to it? Catch THIS, Lara.

Their have been countless fails, but the standouts are:
using a loophole in my story of how my phone broke to tell me that those specific circumstance meant it couldn't be replaced even though I was still under (a ridiculous) contract.

I almost never use my phone, and they conned me into a contract that had a $30 base charge, calls and texts charged on top of that. I'd been led to believe I was signing up for a $30 cap plan.

Oh, and I called them before heading overseas, after wrestling with their useless website. They assured me I was signed up to use my phone o/s. When I got over there, my phone didn't work no matter what I tried. When I rang them, they confirmed both that it wasn't working, and that according to them it should be working. That was the extent of their help. I was in the US for two weeks and they didn't fix the prob in that time.

Iphone users, are you aware that the iphones are primarily designed to work on Quad Band networks? Telstra Next G is the only quad band network in Australia. The iphone uses 3g (aka Tri band) that Optus and Vodafone provide as a back up system only. Using 3G forces the iphone to use alot more battery power to get signal.
If you're lucky enough like I was to have vodafone cancel your contract, sus out telstra, their plans are competitive with vodafone, same cost, just a little less data but your battery life will double, and even if you only have 1 or 2 bars of signal, you'll still get a really clear call on quad band!
10 Jan 2011 01:21:36 PM: Apple iPhone 3G and 3G 3 is 2100/850mhz 3G compatible
Apple iPhone 4 is 850/900/1900/2100mhz 3G compatible

Vodafone use 2100mhz in capital cities for 3G services and is bringing on line a 850mhz 3G network in mainland cities some of which is already in place.

In regional areas Voda use 900 mhz for 3G.

As a consequence the iPhone 4 should in theory be compatible with all the Voda 3G networks while the Apple iPhone 3G and 3G will only be compatible with Voda city 3G networks.

11624 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Security Breach at 10 Jan 2011 07:22:14 AM
Twice I have called, this morning, to Vodaphone, with regard to my lack of internet account access. This has been a problem that has been ongoing for nearly a month now. The consultant had me re-register and the problem was solved. The main issue though, was on both calls, they gave me personal account details, without me giving them an initial pin, via voice or keypad, and I did not have to offer any password or details to verify who I was.
This was after I had advised the operator that this had occurred, on the first call, and he said it would be escalated and fixed! Scary stuff, considering the account is also in my wife's name!!!

Is someone actually doing something about the complaints on this page...
10 Jan 2011 07:25:40 AM: This page shows that we are not alone in our problems with Vodafone. Vodafone is the one who has to do something to solve all the problems that people are experiencing but we can direct people to the right places to file a complaint.
10 Jan 2011 07:39:09 AM: Part of the research process is to gather information from all possible sources, vodafail.com is doing just that, also rest assured there is at least one very large corporate entity that regularly visits these pages!!!!
14 Jan 2011 10:19:32 AM: Fair's fair. If anybody who's aquired a password can trawl through their database, then they should be allowed to watch what's being written about them- and then issue acunningly worded statement full of vaguariea and faint promises, or,more likely,
completely ignore it and think of cricketing triumphs
14 Jan 2011 05:02:39 PM: One customer at a time viewable only. So don't worry. People whinging on a page like this is NOT evidence for court merely hearsay. Why be vague? who is the giant corporate entity? Vodafail 'team' you pride yourself on transparency. Right? Right?
20 Jan 2011 12:30:56 PM: @14 Jan 2011 07:02:39 PM: You wrote "People whinging on a page like this is NOT evidence for court merely hearsay." A curious similarity to a post elsewhere by a person claiming to be a Vodafone Store Manager

No reception. Unable to send or receive calls. Makes having the phone redundant. I live only 10 kms from Melbourne CBD in a major 'hub' near major hospitals. Of thousands of attempts to connect/receive, maybe one or twice in the middle of the night have given me a few minutes talk time before it cuts out again. I am paying good money, for (literally) absolutely nothing.

11619 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is i have proof my credit card and personal details were leaked during this security breach. at 10 Jan 2011 07:00:12 AM
I spent most of yesterday on the phone to customer service only to be told my details were stored in a secure area and the passwords are now changed every 24 hours meaning it was impossible for anyone to now gain access to my personal details on file. (which include my credit card number, address, phone number car rego and so on)

My big issue is:

Everyone at Vodafone is telling me that the problem is "fixed" and my information is "now" secure.

Well it obviously was NOT secure beforehand, which is a damn big breach of the Privacy Policy which states my rights on the contract I signed. Meaning they have broken their end of the contract. However after numerous attempts to explain this to the foreign customer call operators I have been told that I am not entitled to be let out of the contract. (A contract which has been broken by its own operators)

This isn't my only problem though.

Not long ago my credit card details were stolen and used on online gambling websites across the globe. Now I use my credit card to pay for everyday expenses such as petrol, food and the occasional movie or product from Kmart. The thing is though, none of these places actually store my credit card number or details. They simply accept and process the payment.

I also used my credit card to make payments to Vodafone most months for my bill. For some time I was set up on automatic payment for the bill also. Meaning my credit card details were stored with Vodafone. Since I am still a customer, that means somewhere my credit card details are still stored on their system. I cannot think of any other place my details would be stored other than their system.

Process of elimination points the leaked credit card details straight at Vodafone.

I explained to the Customer Care operator this morning that I have bank statements showing unauthorised transactions, I also had my bank investigate the case who confirmed the credit card had been breached. I also explained that Vodafone is the only company who stores my credit card number.

All I want it my contract terminated and my details erased from their system; weather or not it is now secured.
10 Jan 2011 07:09:44 AM: You're right they did break their own contract and i'd suggest that you take this to the telecommunications ombudsman or whatever it is because vodafone staff are trained (like many others) to try and tell you that you can't leave even if they've broken the law.
10 Jan 2011 07:11:11 AM: We would be interested in finding out more information about your situation. Feel free to contact someone@vodafail.com
10 Jan 2011 07:31:19 AM: I just filed a complaint with the ombudsman! The thing is though Vodafone does not know how many of its customers details were leaked. They don't even know who's details were leaked. If thats the case not only my details, but potentially every single Vodafone customers details have been available at some point of time. Meaning Vodafone has broken its Privacy Policy for every Vodafone Customer, am i correct?
10 Jan 2011 07:36:13 AM: Yea I think that is correct and that is why we need the ACMA to investigate this. We just don't know whose details have been leaked and to whom.
10 Jan 2011 08:36:04 AM: Another class action i think! A suit for compensation for every customer who's details were exposed....Hang on, you don't know who's details were exposed! That means everyone is eligible for compensation!
10 Jan 2011 03:35:54 PM: As a voda employee let me tell you that I CANNOT see and/or access your credit card details once they have added to the system in question. The root of this alleged leak is that staff like myself could hypothetically give out or sell their username/password access to the system. Furthermore, all customer details are not just open all the time, you have to search for a specific customer via name or phone number. So hypothetically, if there were customer details leaked you would have search one by one for every one of vodafone's 6/7 million customers

About 90% of the times, my mobile has Zero signal strength throughout my house range and because of this reason, I'm pissed with the problem of either the caller not able to reach me or the calls are getting cut half the way.

Its very much annoying for me since almost 2 months.

I got myself an iPhone mid 2010 - Vodafone shop in World Square forgot to transfer me to new contract so got slugged big time for data - over $300 for first bill which was only for 10 days - tried to fix over and over and over again - customer service were not only useless but extremely rude - kept refusing to help because I would not send my password through email - was concerned about security when now know there is no security anyway lol - each month they would tell me it would be fixed for the next month and was not - long story short after literally hours waiting on hold and being transferred to Mumbai etc ended up paying approx $100 more than should have due to running out of energy trying to fight. Am considering joining the class action but who has the time? This is what big companies rely on - most people cannot spare the hours needed to rectify the situation. Time is money and my time is worth something I believe - maybe I can claim by the hour for the amount of time I have spent trying to get somebody from Vodafone to take some responsibility. I had to explain to Vodafone that as where I purchased my phone were agents of the company they were acting on behalf of the company and the company was responsible for the error - how can customer service not know the basics of consumer law? Also what's the point of having phone with internet when connection drops out constantly!

11615 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Dropouts at 10 Jan 2011 06:44:52 AM
I have been a Vodafone customer for over 10 years. For the last 12 months service has been really bad with constant dropouts. They blamed my new iPhone, I was unable to resolve any problems I had after many calls and frustrations with customer support at the corporate level. So I moved all our phones to Telstra and reception is absolutely fine on all iPhones and no problems since. We will not be paying our last bill and will take legal action to recover costs for failure to provide a service as per Vodafone's contract.

I wonder if this is the "secure website' - it seems to also be listed on Google. https://teamrooms-vista.vodafone.com/SSOLogon/manual_login.jsp

All you need is a user name and a password, and you're in !
Why not have a try, or ask a friend who works at Vodafone if this is right and borrow their logins
10 Jan 2011 07:44:19 PM: You wont get any customer info from that website :) you may find out about our staff incentives/family and friend discounts...
10 Jan 2011 07:49:32 PM: I do find it interesting that a quick google search gets you to the front door : https://203.20.35.230/content/images/RetailEscalations.html

You might want to suggest to management to stop allowing google indexing of your personal sites :)

Or you can even get to this front door:

http://www.vodafonechannel.com.au/site/dcp/australia/enau/home/p_home.jsp#

I know in both cases either at the front door (second link) and after a click or two in the first link a password and login is required, but I can't say any other telco allows google indexing of their web portals. Food for thought anyway

11611 Someone from Somewhere else thinks vodafone is incorrect billing at 10 Jan 2011 06:24:03 AM
Vodafone have sent a bill to my girlfriend which started off at around £300 to about £500 over a time period of about three months. We knew this was incorrect and decided to look at the bill and came across numbers she didn't know or even call, numbers calling for one second and also trying to say my number at 1 20 am.

I was not awake at this time in the morning nor was my girlfriend. Since she canceled her direct debit to Vodafone they have increased the bill to around £599 just because she refused to pay the bill she didn't run up and therefore has been threatened with debt collectors.

She has some evidence showing that she did not run up such a bill and even asked for a cap in front of citizens advice and they agreed to put that on and they then didn't they also canceled her contract without her approval nor did they inform her until she phoned.

Then they wanted her to pay money for re - activation she did this and then the bills started becoming like i explained earlier can anyone help me fight this as i don't know what to do.
10 Jan 2011 06:39:05 AM: I think it'll be very difficult to prove anything. They have the information in their systems but won't go through them to check. Given their call centre is in India you will be lucky to get any sort of satisfaction from that avenue. About the only course of action you have is to maybe go to the telecommunications ombudsman if you have one. That won't get rid of your debt to them though. I'd pay and then close the account at the same time and go elsewhere. Sorry.

I'm not sure how it works but many of my messages seem to have their own agenda when it comes to arriving on time. Often when I send my partner an sms (he is with Vodafone as well) it can take half a day before the message actually arrives! It could have to do with the fact that, living in the inner city of Sydney, we have very poor reception and often no coverage at all...

11606 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is impossible to contact at 10 Jan 2011 06:10:21 AM
I have for four days tried to reach Customer Service with regard to a Billing enquiry. The auomatic system is the only one that can provide details of amounts due in a previous bill - how to clarify anything such as regular payments or to set up automatic payment, the wai was quoted by the on hold message as being up to 50 minutes on each of the four days I tried and on each occasion i the four days I tried to contact the company. I an PISSED OFF !
10 Jan 2011 06:19:09 AM: A bit more on this - I finally managed to contact them, and landed with the Phillipines call centre. When I asked for information on when my contract was due to expire, i was asked WHY I wanted that information ! They tried to sell me a new contract before telling me my contract expiry date - it all seems a bit dodgy to me. I also asked about how many people had accessed my account details (in relation to recent media reports of leaked account info0, and the consultant had trouble fluently reading the (obviously 100% complance verbatim) scripting provided by Vodafone. Not good even for the public perception of looking after the customers.

Calls are being dropped, accompanied by slow internet speeds. After lodging a complaint with the TIO, I got a call from Vodafone 1 day after, unfortunatly I didnt answer the call, and the voicemail said to call 1555. After spending over 3hours + over 2 days, speaking to over 4 people, no resolution was made. I was told the area I am located in (Melbourne CDB), does not have good covereage for the particular phone I am using (HTC Ledgend on 12 month contract). They told me a phone such as the iPhone would be more suitable, or something that did not utilise 900hz? I asked them what they were going to do to help me out, seeing this phone is only 5 months old, they said to keep it and turn off the 3G. I was told "Your phone will work for phone calls, and the internet will be slow though". I asked how do I use services such as youtube and skype (all high bandwith apps) they said "Those will not work once you turn 3G off". Thats great! Great resolution guys, you tell me that it's your fault / the fault of the handset due to the covereage in this area, suggest I get an iPhone and then make no attempt to try and help me out!... Not happy!!!

I have to put up with another 12 months of this pain. Even in places such as Beverage which is on the out skirts of Melb I constantly see SOS calls only on my phone. I am sure that someone in Vodaphone management is studying much of Vodafail. How about explaining why you take 'left over' monies out of pre-paids when users top-up. Is this your way of cashing up from new, unwise customers? And if they are temporary, overseas visitors, they ain't got a hope of reconciliation. If you must use such poor business practice then HIGHLIGHT YOUR POLICY TO THE CUSTOMER.

Till when ill have my parents trying to call me from overseas, with no reply from my side.
Till when ill have to spend tens of dollars calling 3-4 times for a call that was enough to be done in one call?
I have advertised my car for sell over 2 weeks ago, i cant prove it, but im starting to suspect that buyers are trying to call me = no reception.

Hello Vodafone... can you spell I N T E G R I T Y...? Do you know what it means? It means DO WHAT YOU SAY YOU ARE GOING TO DO. That means... provide the service that you contracted to provide to the customer. Your lack of INTEGRITY is the sole reason for all of the flak you are getting on this and other forums. You are clearly in breach of the TRADE PRACTICES ACT dear Mr. Vodafone. Misrepresentation and fraud are reasons why contract parties may cancel their contracts unilaterally. I'm canceling mine. I am only a VF mobile broadband internet user; i don't have a phone account with them. Yet everything I want to do - like close the account - can only be done, first off, by entering your Mobile number! So if you click on their link (only a popup, anyway, disappearing from one second to the next) to "Manage" your "Prepaid Mobile Broadband", you get straightaway asked to enter your VF mobile phone number before anything else can happen! Plain crazy and arrogant! So it seems like I have to phone them to get anywhere - which, by the sounds of it, is only a dive into a gelatinous hell.
10 Jan 2011 07:36:36 AM: Do you have one of those small USB type things to plug into your computer to give you access to the internet? WHen I was with three a few years ago, I had one of those and inside it was a SIM card which is what was giving me my access to the net. That had a seperate number to my phone SIM, so this might be what they mean. For me, the number was written in texta on the SIM inside the USB, but I'm not sure if they only did this so I could distinguish between the two SIMs that I had. Not sure if it will be there for you but you could check.
10 Jan 2011 07:38:54 AM: Actually, if you still have your contract that you signed the details will probably be on there somewhere. It might not be written as 'Mobile Number' but just look for anything that has 10 digits and try that.
10 Jan 2011 07:52:04 AM: Look at your contract for your mobile broadband number. That's what they're asking for. All services have a mobile number. Or ask in store.

My home sits smack in the middle of a major Perth suburb. Vodafone's coverage map shows my area is covered by 2G/3G service. I cannot make or receive calls from inside my home or front the front or back yards. Totally unacceptable coverage. I am one year into a 2 year service agreement. The reported security breach regarding customer details just adds insult to injury. Surely Vodafone are in breach of the Trade Practices Act? They certainly appear to have breached their own privacy policy. My legal advice is that I can unilaterally cancel my contract because they are in breach of same. Has anyone else pursued this line of attack?

First off, I signed up for a HTC legend on a $29 cap, and it was supposed to come with monthly 1GB free internet but this didn't happen. I was only getting 50mb a month, which led to my bills being way more than it should be. This was never resolved.

Secondly, upon purchasing and signing up I tried to log onto the vodafone website to manage my account online. It didn't work, and it seemed as if my number had already been registered. This took about a week to resolve after visits to vodafone stores and phone calls and online help.

Thirdly, I keep getting messages and calls looking for people who I presume; used to have this number.

Fourthly, just recently, reception has been nothing but fail. It started a couple of weeks ago where I had no reception for a couple of hours on a saturday. Now my messages struggle to get sent, people cannot seem to call me even when my reception bar is almost full, etc etc.

Lastly, I hear my information is very readily available to others due to Vodafone's poor security.

I feel that we deserve at least some sort of compensation, or termination of my plan.

Their call centre is absolutely hopeless - no way of getting through. Was on hold for 3 hours the other day (had phone on speaker whilst working) and in the end got a message saying sorry our lines have now closed for the day and you will need to call back tomorrow. I think I could call at 9am and be on hold till 6pm and get the closed message! Then if they do answer you will be in the wrong section (because Lara never has the right option) and you go to the back of the hold queue in the supposed right section. Am expecting a delivery of a replacement phone and was told it would arrive by courier on Friday. Waited around all day for it and guess what - yep it never arrived! So now i've decided we'll just see what Monday brings as given up trying to get in contact.
10 Jan 2011 01:54:54 AM: Vodafone customer care is open 24 hours!!
10 Jan 2011 07:29:25 AM: Open 24 hours, but customers should not have to spend hours on the phone for each and any enquiry! I have consistently been kept on the line for over an hour, every time I rang, while I get put through countless different sections, none of whom can answer my query. Twice, upon reaching the hour and a half mark, I have hung up with my issues still unresolved. And even then, with every person you get passed to, the information is inconsistent, or non-existant. Occassionally staff are rude, usually just plain useless. (My issue was with incorrect/misleading billing using vodafones own product!! So hundreds of dollars overcharged, followed by countless hours of time on the phone, with unhelpful staff, who won't acknowledge a problem with their own billing system information.) Significant financial pain and hours of anguish/anger/frustration - vodafone is nothing less than a traumatic experience.

11585 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Extreme Privacy Breech at 9 Jan 2011 11:14:54 PM

***********PRIVACY WARNING**********

Without releasing the personals details of others I have been waiting for the right opportunity to expose a certain event I have experienced on the Vodafone Network. Yes I have all the regular problems, drop outs, poor reception even in prime locations, connection delays and so on. But the most concerning of all issues was my recent experience with voicemail. I have been on multiple occasions listening to my voicemail box to retrieve my messages and the most absurd thing happened. I began to hear messages which had nothing to do with me, in fact after listening for a while I discovered I was somehow patched into Vodafones message server and I was being streamed message after message which belonged to almost anyone and everyone. I was able to record details of individuals, their personal lifes, contacts and who they were talking to. Everything from the average joe to local politicians. After this occurred I began to freak out, what if others can hear my messages, what if this error has occurred before. While I waited sometime thinking to myself what to do about this it happened again. Another call to voicemail and instead of my messages endless playback of message after message belonging to everyone else. This only stopped when I decided to hang up and no input controls such as delete or skip message would work.

VERY VERY VERY SCARY.

There are more instalments to this saga, including vodafone's denial and ignorant responses, unfortunately at this stage I will have to post that later.
Also want to point out, vodafone have poorly managed their merger with the three network, their reception is extremely bad when compared to both Optus and Telstra, internet service is very poor both speed and reception wise. DO NOT USE VODAFONE.

10 Jan 2011 01:39:01 AM: Vodafone is clearly in breach of the Trade Practices Act and should be sanctioned for it. They entered into service agreements with customers after representing to customers that they provided service coverage in customer areas of interest. Clearly this has not been the case for many customers. Vodafone thus behaved in a manner that was/is misleading and deceptive, or likely to be misleading and/or deceive, and thus has breached the Trade Practices Act. Customers may thus cancel their contracts unilaterally because the contract was entered into under false pretenses under the part of Vodafone.

Vodafone cut off my phone and gave my number to someone else in September. Someone at a senior level went into my account, cut off my number (ie disabled my account) and gave my number to a customer they were signing up. It took DAYS on hold - one day I was on hold for SIX hours to get through to some operator in India who then handballed me to various departments, and no one could help me. I couldn't call from my Vodafone - they'd cut my service. So had to tie up (And pay for) my landline to contact them about the mess they'd created.
Eventually I went into the local Vodafone shop - three days in a row - to use their phone. They were very helpful and they USED THEIR OWN PHONES AND PHONE CREDIT to get my number back.

I got my number back. They Vodafone billed me $460 for service cancellation!

I got the disconnection/contract cancellation charge reversed and I was told, as compensation, that I would get the following month free. The bill came in for that 'free' month at $463.00! I'm on a $29 cap!
I called again - only two hours on hold this time. I was told that the person who had authorised the month's free credit had left the company and left no notes. I pointed out that had been billed incorrectly ($7 to retrieve voicemail? Hello?) and after a few more hours on hold came back with an offer of $463 phone credit - but not get my money refunded nor would they agree to release me from my contract (I was over it by this stage) .
I agreed to the credit - about 15months worth.
The next day they debited $29 from my account - my monthly charge.
Added to this was an overseas trip when my roaming failed. I was unable to receive calls, conduct business or receive necessary text messages to do banking/book flights etc.

Vodafone has since agreed to refund ALL the money they've incorrectly taken from me - $463 plus $29 =$492. They said they could do this in 10 working days, which, after negotiation, I got down to five. The money hasn't come through yet - stay tuned. I asked again to be released from my contract but they refused.
I have yet to discuss with Vodafone compensation for distress, loss of income (I run my own business and spent days away from it at a crucial time trying to get my phone number back - which by the way was on all my business materials). The people on the front line - the ONLY human beings I was able to talk to face to face were at the retail outlet and did what they could to help... - what about their distress? I wasn't the first customer to come in with a service complaint.
If I could get out of my contract I would, and I if there's a class action happening, I'm in: (PERSONAL DETAILS REMOVED - Vodafail.com Team).

Jinny, NT
9 Jan 2011 10:48:47 PM: Hi Jinny, you can register your interest to take part in the class action below with Piper Alderman. Currently 9000 are queued to take part in the class action law suit against Vodafone. And rightly so :)

I'm in a situation where they want me to pay, get this, 500 odd dollars on usage which I "supposedly" used...like fuck that, I'm not paying half a grand! Who do they think they're fooling? I'm on a $29 cap for fuck's sake, honestly...I cannot comprehend how I could have used THAT much! It infuriates me, because when I went into a Vodafail outlet to get some help, all they could do was show me my bill and tell me that I've "evidently" gone over my cap. Yeah right, like $500 over, seriously? I don't even make international calls!
Now they've barred my phone from making outgoing calls/txts...bastards. They tell me that the only way the issue can be resolved is if I pay up...I refuse to. No way is my money going towards something which I didn't even pay for.

Also, I can't use the 3G network as it simply does not work in Townsville. What is the point of having the 3G network if it doesn't work? The other day my fiancee called my phone and on his end, it rang; on my end, not even a missed call.

I have been on a contract with vodafail since may 2010 and the issues have been endless. to start i live in metro ACT and the coverage is useless, i don't even have service at my house... second my number keeps getting called from different locations all over Australia, a wire cross over or something and forget talking to someone about it they just kept handing me off to the next useless person. The internet is painful to use and they wont cover anything under the extended warranty i took out and pay extra for various stupid reasons Even know the sales person told me it covered everything)and now this confidence breach, you have to be kidding me. We are people not just $$$ i think even pathetic 'Lara' could even understand that.
Not impressed! I want out!

11562 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is epic fail at 9 Jan 2011 08:58:10 PM
Vodafone used to be reputable and a great carrier.... in the past year or so I have encountered a lot of issues with network coverage. It takes ages to load internet on the 3G network and calls are constantly dropping out. They have all the time and money in the world to support a cricket team but cannot even service their clients.

I am disgusted and worried about the media speculation about the leaking of customers information and find it appuling that their functionality to send a complaint/email via their website has been removed. I have called 1555 and there is a automated message at the begining of the call stating that 'Vodafone values their customers and stores information safely'. i did not get a clear indication from this message if the information had been accessed by unsavoury characters in our community... I then waited on hold for 45 mins (i know it was stupid waiting that long). before i gave up. Communication FAIL from VODAFAIL. There is also a pathetic attempt of an explanation on their website which yet again is unclear .

Thank goodness i got out of my vodafail contract by pretending i already had it approved and was told to send the phone back! I was in Melbourne and reception was ok but then moved to Bendigo and it was hopeless even though they told me it was fine the calls would drop out constantantly and using the internet was painful. You may be cheap vodafail but its not worth it when you caant make a call and you cant even talk to a real person - Lara needs to be put to rest. The vodafail shops in Bendigo and Shepparton have both closed down - a sign of things to come...........

I had been a long-term 3 customer and didnt have too many problems with them at all. When i went for a phone upgrade, I was encouraged to jump on the Vodafone network, as they had already bought 3 out.
It was ridiculous, but i had to go through all of the security checks then and there, and waited for 1.5 hours for what was essentially a phone upgrade with the same company!
For the 2 months that i have been with Vodafail, my calls constantly drop out (i'm in Brisbane southside), and have a very low opinion of the company.
I'm also willing to blame Vodafail for the Australian cricket team doing so poorly...after all, they have just become major sponsor!

No coverage in my house. It's raining all the time so I have to go out and stand in the rain to make calls. Internet on my phone only works when it takes it's fancy. I keep getting very big bills that I know I could not have possibly ran up with out constantly calling international. Every time I go in store to talk to someone they tell me I have to call the customer care number which I sit on for a hour trying to talk to someone but never get anywhere. My sister and a friend are having the same problem and my sister keeps getting charged twice for bills as they say she hasn't paid which is absolute rubbish and they won't help her or listen to her. Absolute rubbish!!!!
9 Jan 2011 09:03:53 PM: Just to make it clear I live just outside Brisbane CBD. Also in regards to my last 2 bills being massive I have no been using my phone anymore or any less than I use to yet my bills have been close to $300 more than what they have supposed to have been. I only text and call friends and I'm 100% that I do not owe this money. Will be complaining to TIO as I know I am right. VODAFAIL says it all!!!

11556 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is The Worst ever seen in the last 15years at 9 Jan 2011 08:27:31 PM
Well where to start?,, I have been a loyal customer with vodafone for the last 15 years, where we have had some pain along the years, but boy or boy, nothing compares to today's "vodapain", when you have a problem you'd better call your butcher, as any of the vodafone call centres take just over half hour to answer the phone, and thereafter another 1 hour to communicate to some rather stranger in another planet. Now this did not happen years ago when vodafone had all call centers in Australia, I have had numerous disputes and battles, that came to conclusion that best option is to move along, and change carrier.
vodapain should never merged with any other telco (3), if you are not prepared to cater for services on your own.
Your loss...

My "free" data isnt used until my actually credit runs out so if want to check my emails i get charged for the data usage even though 4 times ive been to 3 different voda shops and to get it looked into and get told the same rubbish.
Ive called numorus times to the call centres, waste of time.
And like everybody else my reception is crap at the best of times and 3G basically doesnt exsist anymore.
Vodafone, advice: get ya stuff fixed, dont leave everybody in the dark and most of all dont have your friggin call centres overseas. Youve lost a customer.

11550 Someone from NT thinks vodafone is Extreme! at 9 Jan 2011 08:19:02 PM
I had a Vodafone broadband bundle with usb on a 24 month contract, was only able to use it about 8 times. Rarely got signal both here and down south where the networks are supposedly 'better'. When i eventually did get some form of connection it was at Dial-Up speed!! and then after 5 minutes the signal was just dropped anyway. Contacted Vodafone on many occasions to try and get a solution but they just told me it was a problem with the area i was in (even tho i have a notebook and am in all sorts of areas all the time!!!) When my plan was finally over and i could finally stop wasting money on something that was useless, i had to ring them and deal with almost an hour of a customer service rep trying to sell me the 'new wifi' thing that will make reception 'so much better' NO THANKS!!!! Would love my money back for the 24 months of unused internet at $49.95 a month!!! Ha a 5gb Limit that i was never going to reach because i would never be able to connect to the internet!!!
SO BUYER BEWARE DON'T GET ANY VODAFONE INTERNET PLANS!!!
10 Jan 2011 06:40:53 PM: What internet plans, they can't organize customer service plans, so us vodafone used and abused don't have a hope in hell!

11546 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is more failing than I originally thought at 9 Jan 2011 08:09:46 PM
In addition to my last post, having read some of other people's problems, just reminded me that I also have tried to send picture and text messages that don't reach people, I get put on hold until I can't stand it anymore and hang up, and my dropouts have been going on for as long as I can remember. I just thought it was common in many telcos! I also have had my voicemail divert straight to msg bank when I have my phone on all the time and live close to the city. I was unable to retrieve voicemail whilst overseas, but could sent text messages. NO, I am not trying to milk the system and weasle out of a contract, in fact my 12 month contract is nearly finished so won't return to VF.

11539 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is try working with them at 9 Jan 2011 07:55:42 PM
ok all carriers have issues...but heres my point from being someone who used to work in the industry.
one yes the call centre support number is crap simce it moved from tassie some years ago.
the systems they use siebel is crap constantly failing. it failed for months when first released.
previous systems were so easy to use

Staff in the telco industry hate calling dealer support as they are hard to hear and yes they dont speak english well....
please remember the staff in the telco industry dont make the issues it usually is the network as a issue we understand and share your pain.

accessing personal info yes it has a web portal and only vodafone store have full access to billing calls ecetera.

VHA as they want to be known have people who dont know vodafones systems trying to help stores as they are brought from three (hutch)
The amount of information from vodafone and training is rubbish there training material is incomplete and has a massive issue with too much unecessary information.
other carriers have very easy to follow and easy to see any issues when processing conections.

words of advice
go through the confirmation with the staff and get all the relevant brochures regarding you plan and make sure the staff know what they are talking about they are the professional and should know this information inside and out.
a easy way is to ask them if they are on the ball ask them call rates and flagfall and txt and pxt msg costs if they know this then you have staff who are knowledgeable with the plans and network.
(confirmation of understanding is something you sign to say you understand all the terms call rates and what you have applied for make sure the copy is given to you)

2nd buy a prepaid sim to check coverage or get a month by month account one you can cancel at anytime to check the reliability of the network

3 if you cant check on you current providers phone select network select manual search and see what names come up

4 ask about what happens if i get no coverage as you are signing up.
as other carriers have a satisfaction guarantee.
10 Jan 2011 02:44:37 AM: Do other carriers also have Seibel training seeing as how they use the SAME system?

i.e. Telstra and Optus.
11 Jan 2011 06:33:55 PM: I love our Mumbai brothers and sisters. Some are even my friends on Facebook. The ending to this post is similar to advice I've given earlier. I love the extra perspectives. Good post mate.
