26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

9323 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is VERY!! at 30 Dec 2010 08:58:12 PM
I lose reception time to time and sometimes when I try to connect to the internet, i lose the connection.

Lucky me i chose the 20SIM only package, if i were on a plan contract, i will be pretty much screwed!! I have only been with vodafail for about a month changed from 3. Thought 3 was worse, but this is much worser!!

I am trying to change to iinet but having troubles syncing to iinet. It looks like vodafail trying to stop me moving!!!

No wonder vodafail and 3 teamed up, cos both are so bad!! Do not go both!! Even though its cheap, its bad!!!!

9319 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Frustrating & lacking in the one main service it's supposed to be providing - NETWORK COVERAGE at 30 Dec 2010 08:51:06 PM
80% of the time in my home I will have "no service" on my iPhone. I rarely get 1 bar of service & when I do it's a race against time to either send or receive any messages before the "network lost" alert appears. It was extremely frustrating to get a new phone on a plan which I defiantly can't complain about - except that I can't actually use it in my home. Extremely dussapointing indeed & defeats the purpose of having the phone. If it weren't for having wi-fi Internet in our home, the phone would be completely useless to me 70% of the time

9317 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is So Slow I just gave up....again! at 30 Dec 2010 08:40:22 PM
Today and practically right now, I still having issues trying to even load up facebook. I have an iPhone 4 and have gone through all the troubleshooting items both with apple and suggested stuff on the vodafone website but the issue still remains. I rung up and was told to take my sim out, blow into the sim holder and wipe the sim card and see what that does.......yeah let me tell you, it does jack! The guy was helpful but I am just over the general slowness, dropping out of calls (which again has been happening quite a bit both in the city and western sydney). I am currently thinking about jumping ship to another carrier as the hassles i have are driving me mental. I need a phone to help me call my partner as i am in a wheelchair and travel to and from work via the train (I meet my partner at the station to get home - transport isn't that great in the harbour city you know)and as it keeps dropping or delaying text i just need something more reliable. Sorry i am rambling but enough is enough. Will try again in the morning to contact customer support and see what they say

9314 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Very at 30 Dec 2010 08:34:27 PM
I've been a long term Vodafone user.

Apart from the usual call drop outs, lack of data with full 3G / H signal strength, inability at times to make outgoing calls with full signal and drop outs during data usage, the one thing that has really annoyed me over the past year and a half is their inability to solve technical issues and their willingness to pass the buck.

I first logged a fault with Vodafone over 18 months ago, the problem being a fault on the myVodafone website that prevented me to change phone settings such as call diversion. Having been with Vodafone for well over 10 years, this hasn't been a problem in the past.

I have made multiple calls to Vodafone (I have lost count how many, but would be around 5-10); each time I would have to explain my situation again (apparently it was supposed to be recorded on my account each time but it never was), and each time I would be transferred to someone else and I would have to explain the situation again. Some calls would last over an hour and I have explained the situation up to 3 times to different people on a single call.

Each time a promise would be made to have the issue escalated and resolved, but each time it has lead to empty promises. I have even been told they are too busy to look at the issue.

I gave up trying for a few months but decided to give it one last go, I believe my last call was made in Sept/October, I have since received a $70 credit and two additional calls (the first time someone has actually called me back despite promising to do so on previous calls) from Vodafone to say that they are still looking into the issue.

I honestly don't think they will resolve the issue.

Totally shit coverage anywhere! Tried to download a update for my IPhone let's me download a portion of it then I loose all signal! Get error 3150 the network connection could not be established! Didn't get the update but got charged for the download.
Just drove 50 kms to a high coverage area and tried again got nearly to end of download but vodafone disconnected me again , so no update yet charged again!
Really pissed off now can't get a update , check emails ( which I need for my business)
I'm on my mobile writing this cause that thank god isn't vodafone!
Spend hours and mega bucks in calls to them to speak to someone who I can't understand , to be told your in a black spot! Well is the whole of Perth a black spot? No vodafone just sucks!
Nothing resolved by ringing them except I'm left wishing I could reach through my mobile to strangle them!

30 Dec 2010 08:30:24 PM: good point mate!
30 Dec 2010 10:25:10 PM: My phone (nokia E63) allows me to look up my account balance (real time). Though I am on pre-paid. If there isn't something like that for caps, I think vodafone should make it!

i have a phone that continuously turns itself off for no reason. i will be in the middle of a call and and it will turn off when the battery is fully charged. i have gone to vodafone many times to ask them to help me and the only solution they gave me was to pay out my plan and to get a new phone which will cost me more than what the phone was worth to begin with. im sick of the bad coverage and hate it that im stuck with a phone that wont work and no one from vodafone seems to want to help me.

the network is already bad enough. and the customer service on the phones are not either because they do not even have any records of what deal we signed up for. even the the staff members are not fully corporated with our complaint as they do not believe what we are saying is right. therefore they are not doing anything abut it. 15 people in my friend circle signed up for a deal and none of them are satisfied as the customer service people lied to us or did not put the deal they provided in the system. their goes our big bucks and goes our respect and loyalty to vodafone. our connection was disconnected because they were on a fault. NEVER AGAIN.

9305 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is the failiest of all fails at 30 Dec 2010 08:02:21 PM
My co-worker and I were at Vodafone Select for 18 months.
The whole time we were there we recieved complaints of poor reception and experienced it ourselves.
We were informed that the reception was being improved throughout the entire employment but instead we watched the network go downhill.
Text Messages are rarely recieved on time, sometimes even coming through the next day.
Our service is constantly dropping out, making calls almost impossible.
Internet reception and speed is pityful.
If a customer complained all we were advised to tell them is that "they're working on it", clearly, this wasn't the case.
My co-worker and I have recently seeked other employment, with Telstra. Where we can now RELY on the product we are trying to sell.
Over all Vodafone is one big failure and we are ashamed of ever working for that company.
Get yourselves out of your contracts!!!

All year I have been having problems with voice messages. Visual voicemail works on and off on my iphone 3gs, but mostly off! Any voice messages can take several days to arrive.
Also, Vodafones website says they have full coverage in Bywong NSW (just outside ACT) but there is little to no reception at all.
There customer support via the phone is extremely slow. They repeatedly ask for the same details during the one call, and transfer me (slowly) a lot, and no body seems to be able to help.
LARA is nothing but infuriating!!!!

9298 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is completely at 30 Dec 2010 07:52:03 PM
Having been a loyal customer of vodafone in NZ first for 10 years then OZ for the last 3 years I am finally taking the leap to telstra. This decision is based on the poor coverage both with broadband and mobile calls/text that I have experienced for three years hoping things would improve and they haven't if anything the situation has gotten worse. This example is for today I received a message from vodafone advising I had three new messages, my phone hadn't rung and the messages were left the day prior on my phone by friends. For the last week and about 5pm every day I have not been able to make/receive calls or text. Vodafone your customer service is just as bad as Telstras, When I cancelled my broadband account there was a credit of $50 on there, it took three months and many phone calls to get this this money transferred to my mobile phone account as I thought this would be straight forward and easy, I would have been better off getting a cheque posted out! I could go on about the coverage and service problems I have encountered only to be informed from the Customer Service staff that it was the phone I had, a phone that your company sold me. Shame on you Vodafone your roll out of improving the system should not have taken three years and the Customer Service you provide is seriously lacking!

9296 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Warning Regarding Voicemail! at 30 Dec 2010 07:51:00 PM
Hey All just a heads up, if you have voicemail the vodafone system may block all incoming calls and send them to voicemail, the vodafone "help team" at this moment must be only 5 people. Hung up on 3 times and total call time of around 2hrs, and there fix was to delete my voicemail box and all custom settings without even asking me or providing a real fix. So dont use voicemail, you may want to avoid voicemail at all cost as you may loose all incoming calls and voicemails. Also, vodafone cant give you any kind of reference to the issue, other then the persons first name of the staff member ask them to spell it and keep and nope of date/time/name of person and the issue notes

I share the same pain as everyone else on the vodafail network. Like so many here and out there I have been with vodaflop for so many years and never had a problem! As a electrical technician i travel allot, and in some common areas and locations i get low to no reception for long periods of times, very annoying for both me, customers and employer. My theory is when vodafail toke up 3 and advertised these unlimited plans and bundles it all went to $#!t....my wife is with 3 and its not as bad as vodaflop but it still aint no where near as what the other telcos provide and service. Another unhappy customer whos prepared to jump ship! Thanks for nothing Vodaflop / Vodafail

9293 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is total fail at 30 Dec 2010 07:48:14 PM
My story is too long to type in here. Briefly, I had problems getting my new handset and Mobile Broadband modem delivered to me. It ended up taking months to receive the modem. I was assaulted in June and my phone was stolen. They would not honour the insurance policy unless I paid $300 excess for a $330 phone. I had to spend money on a prepaid phone. When I finally received my new handset I gave the other phone away. Unfortunately the set up procedure failed, and I was without a phone for weeks. This played a part in me becoming unwell and I was hospitalised for two months. I finally received my broadband modem and got to set up my phone in October. It took a lot of phone calls to reduce my bills for that period when I had no phone, and I had to pay off a lot of money. I thought that wasn't fair as there wasn't a sim active on it, and my old number had been blocked since June. It is now at the point where I can't stand calling them again to complain. I always get transferred to all the wrong departments and cut off. My new modem I got in October has failed to work properly the whole time I've had it. It usually works for 2-5 minutes before it cuts out. My bill is massive. I am a pensioner and can't afford it, but I must have agreed to it and now I have to wait another two years to change companies. It has been nothing but trouble and has contributed to my illness.
30 Dec 2010 08:37:05 PM: Your experience sounds truly horrible. Besides the suggestions listed under 'How To Complain' on this site, considering you are unwell, I think you might like to contact your local community legal centre to book an appointment and see if they can sort it out on your behalf.

I have come to the conclusion that Vodafone uses street lights instead of towers, ie when you leave the row of street lights, (city) you lose reception ! Further evidence to my case in point, when I lose reception at home (often) if I walk out to my rear deck and point my iPhone to the nearest street light (and raise my right hand) reception comes back ;(

I just terminated early my 24 month 3G mobile Broadband contract in New Zealand. The service is not that good here in New Zealand either. the 3G network never operates at peak performance and for $75 dollars a month its total rubbish. It doesn't matter whether you are on contract or on pre-paid you still pay a fortune for your phone calls at nearly 90 cents a minute. Up until recently Vodafone New Zealand was charging their customers $1 dollar to speak to a customer service representive at their Egypt call centre. Vodafone never again. terry - Auckland - NZ

9283 Someone from TAS thinks vodafone is the pits at 30 Dec 2010 07:37:26 PM
I have to stand in the middle of my west hobart yard and face east for the phone to work. I am lucky if the phone does not drop out. I have installed a high gain antenna and hands free davice to my vehicle so i can actually make and receive business calls with fewer drop outs. The drop out problem is frustrating, I have resorted to invested in a Telstra phone to call customers as it is equally frustrating for them to be cut off at random all the time. I have tried to get out of my contract with Vodafail and they simply say sorry that I am liable for the full term cost of the contract should I cancell. I point out to them that I am not getting the service that I am paying for, and it is already costing me extra money with lost customers and down time through constant droped calls and third world reception.
30 Dec 2010 10:23:15 PM: I'm also in West Hobart and find Vodafone's 'broadband' service is useless. The modem connects to 3G but data speed is often sub-dialup. The signal strength is abysmal (-95dBm, which is very low: about one-tenth of the signal from Optus and Telstra). On the other hand, Vodafone's 2G phone service is mostly OK, apart from inside shopping centres.

I was conned into a 2 year contract and asured by the sales person that I would have coverage in the areas I work. Service was so poor - even in a town the size of Castlemaine - that I gave my phone to my mother in Melbourne and pulled out my old telstra mobile which I am still using as it gets service nearly anywhere. $700 wasted. Complaints to Vodafone were useless and we all know there is no where to go with the contracts so I paid for two years for a service I couldn't use. They saw me coming...

At home I get limited reception but often find that calls don't come through ie the phone doesn't ring even though it shows 2 bars of reception - the calls go directly to message bank. It happens when I'm right beside the phone so I know it hasn't rung. Txts sometimes take hours to arrive & sometimes don't get to my phone until the next day even though the phone shows reception. WTF? Very unreliable.

Most calls go to voice mail, not ringing - even when the phone is on me, I will receive 'missed call' messages. Have spent ages checking volume and ring types - I thought it was just me.
Have to go outside to receive most calls if I am not on a hill, and that's in Sydney! Just signed a new 2 year contract, can I get out of it? harri2090

Basically I dont receive some messages and when I text people...I find out later that they didn't get a message I had sent!
In fact I have a family member annoyed with me cos I didn't reply to a message.....that I never received!
6 Jan 2011 05:37:21 AM: I have an SMS Burglar Alarm.
I actually received the message 4 hours AFTER the breakin. Then they came in a set of lumps.

Clearly their SMS provisioning is not real time, and at the HIGHEST data cost/rates in the WORLD it is simply criminal that ACCC or the like does not get a covering statement for all NEW customers that their network is overloaded and unreliable with frequent localised performance problems. That would teach them there is a real COST and consequences for endlessly grabbing new money on what they cant deliver.

They tell me there is no SERVICE Level agreement for SMS. There are 2 problems: They oversold their capacity (and did not care), and the regulator at the wheel has been sleeping. I would have hoped Telsta would have put the boot in - but no - and they should know.

Bring on the class action.

9255 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Big fail at 30 Dec 2010 06:51:16 PM
I signed upto Vodaphone due to the great sound plans/caps (good value and low call rates).

I had excellent coverage boasted to me and it has been horrible. I live in Bray park outside of brisbane. I get horrible reception and multiple call drop outs ( The record has been about 4 drop outs in a half hour conversation) The data is painfully slow and my battery drains rapidly ( it's always going flight by the time I drive home from work).

I am on a 24 month contract and I want out badly. Why pay for 2 GB of data when it's too slow to bother using it??

Also my mobile is my only phone ( no land line) so reliability is important to me.

9252 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Very disappointing at 30 Dec 2010 06:43:54 PM
Went into the apple shop in Robin just before christmas to sign the wife up to a new contract with Three so she could get an Iphone. The salesmen said he wasn't able to do a three contract as it was an upgrade from an existing 3 customer. These had to be done through Three. However he advised us that he could upgrade her to a Vodafone plan and that it was a much better one as it had much more included for the same price.

He said the reason behind this is that In 6 to 12 months all existing Three customers will have to move over to the Vodafone network so the company is discouraging people signing up with Three by making the contacts with Vodafone a better deal.

I expressed my concerns that I knew Three's reception work well for us at home and I was hesitant to sign with Vodafone as it was unknown. He however show'd me their coverage Map and that our area was fully covered. I said I believe those maps don't paint the full picture and it varies greatly depending on where u are in suburb and what kind of dwelling your in. He assured though that the coverage would be fine. Not wanting to wait 10 weeks to get a phone through Three we reluctantly signed up.

Since we have had it we get nothing but 1 bar of reception on their 3G network, That doesn't seem enough to make the internet work, We often get call drop outs and it will often will roam on Vodafone's 2G network. We are now locked in to a 2 year contract with a phone that doesn't work like it should and we can't get out of it.

Apple have acknowledged and rectified issues. Vodafone has shown nothing but contempt and is dragging the Apple brand through the mud.

Let the games begin!
30 Dec 2010 06:30:31 PM: Vodafone is just one of many companies having problems, and who have had problems dealing with capacity of Iphone and android devices, AT&T had millions of customers out of service for that very reason

9245 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is disinterested & pitiful lack of service at 30 Dec 2010 06:23:35 PM
My daughter has a prepaid vodaphone account. She keeps her phone on her at all times as she is my carer and I have serious medical problems. Today I had a fall and spent hours on the floor all because vodaphone refuse to do anything about their pitiful service. The main issue is that for some reason all calls to her phone are sent straight to voice mail and she receives no notification of any messages left. This has been going on for months. At first she thought it was her handset that was playing up so we tried a different handset - no change!! Despite numerous calls to vodaphone - and extended waiting times to speak to a consultant - nothing has changed and they dont even seem interested in investigating the problem. After today's incident my daughter again phoned vodaphone and the consultant told her there is nothing they can do!! More like there is nothing they want to do!

Pretty tough as I am trying to change jobs. My service was actually alright until December hit. I would say I went from a 100% satisfied customer to 5%. Moved to SA for Christmas... rarely ANY coverage. Head hunters ringing me and indicating they are not getting my emails or my phone is often in an out service area. It is a bit better back in Sydney but again... it just frequently says No service.

I think if the service can't handle the volume then they should credit our december bill.

I called vodafone on 27th December to report network issues, I was speaking to the customer service department about the cost to cancel my contract for both my services, the person i spoke to asked why, told him because of network issues, he told me i could lodge a complaint with technical services and if they couldn't fix my issues they would cancel my contract with no cost to me. I was then placed on hold for 45 minutes. When my call was answered, the operator asked what area i was in, as i was at my brothers i gave her his address, however did tell her that is not where i lived and was not experiencing issues there. She never asked me what my address was. This lady was exceptionally rude and kept talking over the top of me. I told her that i wanted to lodge a complaint - she told me she would need an alternate number to contact me on, i tried to tell her that i had no other contact number as i have no landline, she told me she couldn't help me unless she could call me on another number. i asked to speak to someone else as she was not listening to me and preferably in australia as this is where i live, she told me she could not do that as all calls go to India. I hung up on her. I later received a call from her supervisor to whom i said i could not speak at that time. she then called me back at 7am the next morning.. as i write this i am on hold to vodafone and have been for 34.15 mintutes, however they keep assuring me someone will be with me soon!!

I'm still on hold. Taking a screen shot every 30 odd minutes just to prove it. At just on 2 hours, it went from being on hold music to the phone ringing. Just waiting to be cut off any minute now >:( - I'm ringing to complain about the usual: poor or NO service in metro areas (Canberra and Sydney), poor data service and calls dropping out or not even being received at all. I applied for a job last week and am waiting on the call. May or may not have happened, I don't know. As I have naked DSL, I don't have a home phone for them to call me, so my mobile is my only means of communication. My plan expires in June 2011, but thats not soon enough. My new bill is due, but I wont be paying it. As far as I'm concerned, I'm not getting the service I am paying for, so why should I pay?

9227 Someone from Somewhere else thinks vodafone is Fraudulent at 30 Dec 2010 05:32:12 PM
I have the HK version of Vodaphone, 'Smartfone'. What a joke. The service flat out does not work in our office building where I need it most. My colleague who uses 3 loves it - we have the same phone and hers works fine. Vodaphone destroyed her credit in Australia and she knows them well. When I went to Australia, I begged them to get the roaming right, as I needed it for business. The roaming didn't work at all, and they have charged me a humungous amount for its use. Just got off the phone with them and they insist that I have to pay. Done with these clowns.
30 Dec 2010 09:03:10 PM: thats what happened to me, they screwed me over with the roaming, they promised me no charges, and "forgot" to mention all the things it charges for, came home from a overseas trip to a massive $250 phone bill. and they refused to help me when i told them their salesperson promised me there would be no charges.
20 Jan 2011 12:53:34 PM: I think that is where Vodafone really is making money. Unsuspecting tourists/immigrants who recognise the brand from overseas. And when they get robbed by Vodafone here, they probably don't even know about the TIO. And if they do, they may not have the time here to be ground through the slow processes of that industry- funded self-regulatory body.
26 Jan 2011 06:34:21 PM: Oh yeah for sure they set out to be deliberately evil and unscrupulous. It is a huge conspiracy and the company is also run by Lizards disguised as humans and we need to contact David Icke for help!

9223 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is MASSIVE at 30 Dec 2010 05:14:56 PM
Eversince the first outage I am just having problems everyday. Call drop outs, lack of service and best of all I dont get a missed call but I receive text messages saying that I have message on my message bank, on retreiving the message I realise that I suposedly missed that phone call 2hrs ago. Yesyerday whole day I had network problems where I work in the cannington area. I am off to Telstra, I just hope all the mobile providers who piggy bank on Vodafone take some action, the likes of Crazy John, Macquiry, Lebara etc etc
