Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

Vodafone Hutchison fixes faulty handset policy
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has accepted court enforceable undertakings from Vodafone Hutchison Australia as a result of an investigation into alleged misrepresentations about consumers' rights to a remedy for faulty mobile phones.

The ACCC was concerned that from 1 May 2008 to 8 June 2009 (prior to Hutchison 3G Australia's merger with Vodafone Australia to become VHA) Hutchison implemented a handset direction which involved staff making representations to its customers that the only remedy available to them for a faulty mobile phone was a repair.

Generally the only time a customer was able to obtain a replacement mobile phone was during the 'early life failure' period, which was normally 14 days after purchase.
VHA has since acknowledged that in making these kinds of representations it was likely to have breached the Trade Practices Act 1974.

"Hutchison created an untenable situation where consumers with 15 day old faulty mobile phones were told they were only entitled to a repair," ACCC chairman Graeme Samuel said.

"Suppliers of goods and services need to realise the Trade Practices Act implies certain statutory rights into consumer contracts. Mobile phone retailers need to know that often consumers' statutory rights will extend beyond the manufacturers' warranties.

"Statutory rights give consumers a basic, guaranteed level of protection for goods and services they acquire and such rights cannot be excluded or limited by suppliers. In fact, any representation by a supplier which seeks to limit the statutory rights available to consumers is illegal," Mr Samuel said.

The types of remedies available to consumers should be assessed on a case by case basis. For example, if a mobile phone is faulty the consumer may be entitled to request a replacement from the retailer rather than accept an offer of repair. Such a right is usually available for a 'reasonable time' after the consumer received the good. A 'reasonable time' depends on factors such as the cost and quality of the good.

To address the ACCC's concerns, VHA has undertaken for a period of three years to:

extend the 'early life failure' period during which replacement mobile phones are provided to consumers for faulty mobile phones manufactured by Nokia, Apple, INQ and Research in Motion (Blackberry) from 14 days to 28 days* after purchase
provide all customers who acquired a mobile phone (except for mobile phones manufactured by Apple) in conjunction with a service contract on or after 1 December 2009 an express repair warranty for the entire length of the customers' service contract. That means a customer on a 24 month service contract will receive free unlimited repairs if their handset is faulty for the entire two year period
provide all active pre-paid customers who acquired their handset on or after 1 January 2010 an express repair warranty for 24 months
provide all active pre-paid customers who purchased their mobile phone prior to 31 December 2009 an express repair warranty for a period of 12 months from date of purchase
take all reasonable steps to provide a loan phone to customers while their faulty phones are being repaired, and
take all reasonable steps to ensure repairs are completed in a timely manner.
*Significantly, VHA has expressly acknowledged there will be circumstances where a consumer is entitled to a replacement outside the early life failure period but prior to the service contract coming to an end. VHA's undertakings will apply to both its '3' and Vodafone customers.

"Everyday consumers across Australia have to deal with the inconvenience of a faulty mobile phone. Often the real frustration begins when the consumer takes the mobile phone back to their telecommunications provider for a remedy."

Common complaints received by the ACCC include:

consumers face long repair times, sometimes with no loan phone being provided
consumers experience repeated faults with their mobile phones but each time are told they are only entitled to a repair rather than a replacement, and
consumers being told that after the initial 12 month period in which the manufacturer's express warranty applies, no remedy is available; this is despite the consumer being locked into a 24 month service contract.
Mr Samuel said this undertaking sends a strong message to other mobile phone retailers that they need to lift their game.

"At minimum, they need to ensure consumers have access to a reasonable remedy for the entire period of their service contract.

"It is simply not good enough that a customer is tied into a service contact for two years when the retailer is only promising to fix a faulty mobile phone for the first 12 months."

16 Jan 2011 05:49:49 AM: I'm not sure what the point you are trying to prove here, yes there were new recommendations made regarding repair, I can remember when all this happened I had just started working at Optus at the time? All the phone companies have made two year warranties on their handsets except for Apple who will only sell the extended warranty themselves, not just Vodafone.

The fact that apple are controlling things beyond these recommendations is the strongest of examples that any phone companies hands are tied when it comes to repair warranties, now all the phone companies are having to pay an extra cost just cause the people that make the things wont conform, all any of the companies were doing was following the standard warranty agreement set down by the manufacturer.

16 Jan 2011 12:17:03 PM: And still, Vodafone has flouted that undertaking, repeatedly, going by numerous different posts on this site and elsewhere.
They are feral.

11854 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is long hold, no reception, drop calls, poor customer service at 10 Jan 2011 08:51:56 PM
I am a new vodafone customer not even a month has passed but am not at all happy with vodafone. i thought vodafone is better than 3G so i transfered my nbr to vodafone on 12th dec 2010 n was told my fone will activate in 48hrs but it did not. so i kept calling vodafone customer care 14th dec2010 but was on hold for minimum of 2hrs n got disconnected so i went on calling but always was on hold for so long. so i called 3 and asked, so they said to call vodafone n request to import my nbr from 3 to vodafone i did that too n was told by vodafone IVR that my fone will get activated in an hour but it did not happen so i again kept callin vodafone customer care but on hold n nothing else till 17th dec2010. so i went to the 3dealer on 18thdec2010 from whom i had taken my fone n after one hour my fone was activated. but i started facing problem with my handset so again i called vodafone customer care {VCSR}but again on hold for hrs together again n again n no answer at all. by luck i got some live person n i was asked to go to the dealer n change the handset . but no use. again i called many times but always was given different answer by VCSR.at the end i went to the dealer they said they cant change the handset but will repair so i gave it to repair. so i am using my sim on my old handset. am facing coverage problem, calls drop out, also wanted to chk my balance so logged on to vodafone.com.au but failed in all the above problems the website isnt working i cant login plus no answer on thw fone it gets disconnected wenever i call csr saying that they have some technical issues how many times should i call csr? am fed up not even a month n so many problems with vodafone. its jopeless also i have complaint to the customer care ppl i got to speak to abt the long hold they gave an answer its due christmas n new year they have such a long hold. i dont believe this. i want to end my contract with vodafone n go back to 3 am happy n also want compensation for wasting my time n energy
10 Jan 2011 09:27:51 PM: why didn't you just go to the store?
10 Jan 2011 11:52:16 PM: For goodness sake some people should do some basic research to see who they are doing business with - 3 Mobile and Vodafone are merged now and operate under a single umbrella called VHA. They share networks and have minimal coverage.
13 Jan 2011 08:03:21 PM: They don't share networks and the coverage is quite incredible (the Newell Hwy is my favourite stretch oh and using your phone in broken hill is cool). Congestion is the enemy. For goodness sake some people should do some basic research. ;)

Vodafail took money out of my account when they weren't supposed to. When I finally got hold of a staff member they admitted it was their mistake and to get my financial institution to reverse the debit from my account. This didn't make sense to me but I jumped through the hoops - not surprisingly my bank said it was Vodafail's responsibility to get the money back into my account. I called Vodafail back and was told money would be put back in but it would take 5 business days. Even after I said my mortgage comes out of the same account that week and needed that money they said nothing could be done about this but they could give me text credit!! Am taking it further but seriously can't believe the drama. And I have the other problems of calls dropping out, slow or no web access and hours waiting for a staff member to call back. I want out Vodafail!!

11851 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Bad reception at 10 Jan 2011 08:25:05 PM
To be honest, I'm note sure if I can make a complaint towards 3 on this site, but 3 is own by Vodafone and I think they merged already and I've been told 3 now are using Vodafone network as well. I found they're really S*&%! I live in Inner city but have the worst reception ever! Either keep dropping or no reception at all! I am using one other provider and they have good reception anywhere I go. What's going on Vodafone/3???
10 Jan 2011 11:45:40 PM: I suggest you google "Vodafone and Three merger" and read the many articles.
VHA is a 'merger' between Vodafone Australia and Three Mobile (formerly Hutchinson 3). Since the merger 3Mobile users are being effected because they used to roam onto Telstra's secondary GSM network when out of reach of the small coverage of 3Mobile cells. Telstra withdrew the arrangement and now 3Mobile users roam onto Vodafone's network. The effect of this is that Vodafone's already stretched network is now overloaded and beyond designed capacity. The result is poor facility for both 3Mobile and Vodafone users. If you are having troubles with 3Mobile then you will have to take that issue up with them and perhaps the TIO. It does not relate to the core matters covered by this site!

11848 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is CUSTOMER SERVICE DISCONNECT at 10 Jan 2011 08:04:23 PM
I had a new contract begin Jan 6- this was for an iphone4 that I ordered on 16th Dec (3 weeks ago). I received a phone call to confirm delivery on Fri Jan 7 and had to confirm someone over the age of 18 would be at the delivery destination. I waited home all day-NO IPHONE. I then called customer service and after waiting online for 115minutes was promised it would come on Monday 10th. Guess what-NO IPHONE. I then called customer service, was on hold 45mins before the line dropped out. I then called again straight after, waited another 45mins before the line dropped out. I called back 4 more times and after getting to the menu and pushing the options i needed, it said "I'm sorry there has been a technical error. Please try again later". This is utter rubbish. I haven't mentioned when I called 3 weeks ago to order my iphone, I called 17 times and was disconnected immediately every time. I am aiming to terminate my new contract and also my partners contract if possible. FAIL.
10 Jan 2011 08:09:33 PM: This also happened to me! Although I ordered mine the beginning of December. Anyways waited at home all Friday and today. Called up and asked for the consignment number. Looked up my deliver on the AaE website and it said that they only received the item at 8:20PM today! I won't receive it until Wednesday. So much for the multiple phone calls telling me my phone will be here Friday.

we have been with vodafone for a very long time! my husband was going to leave the company and go to Telstra, because of the coverage issue. He was told within several months vodafone woul have coverage everwhere in Australia, and was offered a $10 month discount! He is still on the same plan, so am i, but we cant even get coverage in our home, except for a tiny area in the dining room. The calls are always dropping out and reception shocking at times. could you tell me where we stand with my contract. Were on a $29 month contract each and not happy! Please can you advise us if we can get out of the contract! Thank you very much! Pam.
10 Jan 2011 08:05:11 PM: Hello Pam, you should have no dramas at all. Firstly try and escalate the issue through Vodafone, explain the problems and that you are not happy with the lack of service you are receiving. If they are unable to help you, escalte your issue to the TIO. The link at the top of the page titled 'How To Complain' contains a link to the TIO.

Best of luck, and let us know how you go.

11840 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is they suck at 10 Jan 2011 07:48:41 PM
I am a long vodafone customer and really never had any problems with them so I decided to upgrade my current plan last week. However I had a changed of mine and wanted a different phone than the one I originally asked. The accounts department said thats ok but upgrades department refused and they would only do so if I reject the delivery of the phone.

So I rejected the delivery today and thought I should call them to get the phone I wanted. Waited 1 1/2hrs for upgrades team, spoke for 10s (I havent even finished yet) then the lady transferred me somewhere. Surprisingly, the line dropped out. I tried recalling upgrading department to be told they are closed for the day.

I then decided to ring complaints.... waited another 1 hr, only for a dude at billing to pick up my call.... he wasn't helpful at all and instead said I should call back tomorrow and he was going to give me the upgrades teams direct number. After I hanged up, I realised that number is the same number as 1555 (so its not the direct number).... I just felt cheated out of 2 1/2 hrs of my life and been played like an idiot

is there anyway i can get out of the upgrade (ie. cooling period as I have not yet receive their phone since I rejected the delivery).... after what happened tonight, I want to go to Telstra

Does anyone know the answer?
10 Jan 2011 09:17:54 PM: has vodafail place u on a contract?
10 Jan 2011 09:29:35 PM: should of gone to the stores, my mate got the phone he wanted similar story to yours
10 Jan 2011 11:40:34 PM: NSW has a Cooling Off Period - Check with Fair Trading
11 Jan 2011 02:17:45 AM: I signed up on a 24 month contract with Vodafone. After a couple of days of shocking reception and constant dropouts, i decided to try to get out of my contract. I receive and iPhone 4 as part of the agreement but didn't open it.
After numerous phone calls to Vodafone they finally agreed to allow me to cancel the contract free of any charges except for the first month as long as i didn't open the phone, which was the case. Today i received a satchel and returned the phone. I have been with Telstra for 4 days on a $129 unlimited cap and let me tell you this is the best thing i could have done. Telstra's reception is second to none, and internet browsing is awesome. I can justify the extra expense as it is well worth it in the end. their prices are now extremely competitive and they have the best network by far in Australia and quite possibly the world!
11 Jan 2011 09:27:01 PM: So you signed up on a contract and had shocking reception etc all on a phone YOU DIDN'T OPEN using an iPhone 4 MicroSIM.

Mate, get back to work in your Telstra shop and tell them they should hire smarter people.

11839 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Over It!! at 10 Jan 2011 07:43:08 PM
I've been a vodafone customer in Aust & NZ for 13yrs now. I am shocked that a company I held in high regard for many years can go down-hill so fast. I have x2 mobile broadband internet dongles that were on a 2yr contract. They finished in August last year.
In August I called them to check what date my contract expires. I was paying $39- per month for 3GB good for Aug 2008 but not 2010. My dongles were ancient and slow.
I asked why they hadn't offered me an upgrade on my plan or a new dongle or anything over the last 2yrs. The response from a guy in Mumbai "that's your problem to sort out". I didn't say anything that day but I knew my relationship with vodafone had come to an end.
I got a new contract with another telco in September. That was the easy part. The hard part of this ordeal is cancelling this expired plan. In October I made my first attempt to cancel, managed to get rid of one but found out the next month the other was still ongoing.
I called back 3 times in Nov & Dec waiting around 30-40mins each occasion to eventually find out the cancellation dept systems were down. On the third time I told the guy to put notes about our conversation and he said cancellations would call back within 4 working days. Never happened.
I called tonight and spoke to Lorna. Took 1 hour to get through. She promised to call me back at 6pm ESDT tomorrow. I said to her don't promise if you can't keep it. I will post my results of what happens.
10 Jan 2011 11:38:38 PM: Send them a snail mail - it will get faster responses!

I've tried ringing, I've gone into stores, its useless. I dont have the patients to deal with their lack of customer service, though I cant get out of my plan because whenever I go into the store the always say to come back when your phone starts playing up or to update your software. There are no more god dam updates! I've given up.

11837 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is delayed sms at 10 Jan 2011 07:35:20 PM
arrrrgh, getting so sick of the delayed sms's!! and the most annoying part is i can simply just make a phone call or send another text to prompt them to come through.. seems kind of stupid to me! shouldn't they just automatically come through :(
10 Jan 2011 11:33:04 PM: The symptoms you describe are common and relate to the phone handset and the network failing to maintain contact with each other. Your handset generally stays in contact with multiple cells and they cells track your phone so they know the best cell to route your calls/sms/data through. It would seem that your reception is so poor that the network loses track of you and doesn't know where to route the traffic until you make a call and tell the network where you are. When you hang up the backlog of undelivered email and SMS are delivered.
In my technical opinion this is clearly related to poor coverage and poor network management.
11 Jan 2011 05:53:39 PM: either way all these problems are because vodafone's nextwork sucks! go with optus or telstra. i just changed to optus and i'm never looking back. GOODBYE VODAFAIL!

The 4th time i finally connected to 'lara'. With my enquiry issued, i was placed on hold for 57minutes before I reached a 'real' person.

Only to find that the department I wanted was closed for the day!!!!! I was then placed on hold AGAIN while the operator found me the right place to complain (at my request)

11828 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Borderline fraudulent at 10 Jan 2011 07:07:29 PM
I am in Cairns, QLD. According to Vodafail, the area I work (Edmonton) they cover the entire suburb. I do not get even one bar on my phone, my phone only shows 'Emergency Only'. I have to walk 50m down the road to get two bars to make a call. I recently changed to Telstra, they enabled me to keep my existing phone number, and I now have five full bars where I work - go figure. If they are advertising extensive coverage and it is obvious that no coverage exists, and they take your money, then isn't this fraud? Definition of fraud - 'Obtain a benefit by deceipt'. The benefit to them is a financial gain through decieving the client that they will be provided a service. The deceipt is that they actually do provide a service. No service, take money = fraud.

Its 2011 i dont see why i still have to hold my phone as high i can to search for flowing reception. Your service is rediculous. I call to cancel yesturday and was on the phone for 116mins before the opertaor told me that i have to call during the hours of 8am to 5pm. Why did your stupid usless voice recognition transfer me to an area that is closed.

Click below and sign up. Time to get the show on the road.

http://www.piperalderman.com.au/vf/

i give vodafone and optus equal rating. If only telstra wasnt a rip-off. I love thier service.
10 Jan 2011 07:05:42 PM: I do agree that Tesltra are slightly more expensive, but worth every penny (imo). Fastest web browsing speeds (on 3G), Best Coverage...I guess the old adage, you pay for what you get applies.

In relation to your situation, the TIO may be able to help alot quicker. Check out the 'How To Complain' link at the top of the page.

I was fishing at Stanwell Park where i had a missed call from a family member who required emergency care. I went to answer the call and it continually dropped out. Thankfully my uncle was with me who had full reception with Telstra. I worry that if i was alone and required emergency services. I continually loose my network and recieve error messages. I am currently also recieving sms upto 10 days late. I am still currently recieving people happy new year messages 10 days later. Over 15 times i have been left without recpetion for more than 15mins. Enough is Enough. See you in court Vodafone. Your service is not worth $79 a month. I think walki-talkies are more reliable.
10 Jan 2011 07:49:03 PM: i think 2 cans tied to a piece of string would get better service then vodafone.

11823 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is A wee frustrating at 10 Jan 2011 06:40:13 PM
I just want to talk to someone at Vodafone. It's a minefield. I've already posted about the issues everyone is having ie I get the dropped out phone, delayed text messages etc. For e.g. my sister is in flood in Toowoomba, incidentally she is also on Vodafone. She sent a text to my family who are mostly on Telstra. They all got the text and I still haven't received it.
Anyway I need to speak to Vodafone about upgrade of iPhone. I rang them 3 times today whilst on lunch break and I kid you not, 3 times I got to a point either in a holding queue, or I say 'upgrade' and I was dropped out. This was a call from Pyrmont in city.

A few days ago I contacted Vodafone customer/technical support about the constant drop outs and an investigation resulted in no action. Today I find I no longer have a mobile connection and have just spent over an hour trying to talk to someone and once again no success, still on hold. Something must be done about it. So much for customer service.

I beleave vodaphone brought out 3 as I'm with 3 from the moment they switched system my reception took a dive for the worst so my intrest in all this is has any one else put this to you That it might be 3 customers being affected as well ? . I also noticed that no news reports have mentioned this. I just hope that my privacy has not been breached along with other 3/vodaphone customers. Tank Kurt
10 Jan 2011 07:02:49 PM: Again, 3 and Vodafone are both owned by VHA. Vodafone did not buy 3.
10 Jan 2011 11:21:33 PM: I suggest you google "Vodafone and Three merger" and read the many articles.

11811 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Help all round. at 10 Jan 2011 06:11:28 PM
C'mon guys! If you work for VHA, lets reply to these complaints in a respectful and helpful manner. There is not point coming onto this site and trying to start a bitch fight - we are employees of Vodafone and should be trying to minimise customer angst.

With us being helpful as much as possible on this site, hopefully we won't be abused as much in store.

In saying that, just because we work for the company does not mean we deserve name calling or taunting that should be pointed else where. We can only do so much.
10 Jan 2011 06:31:45 PM: ...? Who works for Vodafone? I sure don't. They rely on us for their business to exist, but that doesn't mean we are employees.
10 Jan 2011 06:44:35 PM: The original poster is.
10 Jan 2011 07:37:36 PM: You do realise that revealing yourself as a VHA employee on a public forum, even if you are trying to help, is pretty stupid? It's a breach of contract and if you get found you get fired :)
10 Jan 2011 08:34:23 PM: ^^ clearly this person has absolutely no idea what he/she is talking about. How do you know its a breach of contract unless you work at VHA and ACTUALLY filled out their contract? P.s im not an employee either I just think alot of people here get too ahead of themselves and arent very logical.
10 Jan 2011 08:40:20 PM: Actually that person makes alot of sense, Most work contracts state you can't post on websites as an Employee of the company or to represent the company, without the approval of Management. So by identifying yourself as a VHA employee they may indeed be breaking a workplace contract (sorry I am not sure what VHA contracts say).

We do appreciate the constructive posts that VHA Employees have made (when they have been constructive and not attacking people), and as long as VHA management do not mind, we encourage more to talk to their customers to aid them through these issues.

Regards,
vodafail.com moderation team.
10 Jan 2011 09:21:08 PM: There is a point in coming to this site. This site was developed ONLY for Vodafone customers that are fed up and left in the lurch by Vodafone.

If Vodafone wanted to 'minimize' customer angst these issues wouldn' exist. Do not come onto this website claiming to work for VHA unless you are willing to cop a lot of crap from unhappy Vodafone customer.

Regards,
Ticked off Vodafone customer.
10 Jan 2011 11:11:30 PM: VHA staff posting in this specific section of the site are really off-topic!
Mitigating or attempting to mitigate on behalf of your employer may seem to be an admirable action to take; however it may also be seen as inappropriate behavior by your employer, and/or Vodafone customers like me who regard your posts very cynically as a paid puppet voice of the company who has failed to meet the expectation of us customers.

11810 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is criminal at 10 Jan 2011 06:09:22 PM
Thanks to the maps and info on the Vodafail website and other sources including the ACMA databases; I have been able to identify the locations and radiation patterns of the VHA Vodafone cells in the immediate area surrounding the suburb where I live in inner Brisbane. The results were interesting. I live approximately 450 metres from the nearest cell which has 2 antennas with radiation patterns facing directly towards me. Every day I have full and long interruptions to my ability to make and receive voice, SMS, and data on my personal Vodafone service.
In contrast my work phone (identical handset to my personal one) is on the Optus network and also uses the same physical site for its cells and has an identical radiation pattern from its antennas and NEVER has any interruptions to the service and has any break in service for voice, SMS or data!
I am sick of lost/missed calls, dropped calls, delayed/interrupted voicemail, SMS delivery delays of hours and days.
Vodafone you are not providing the services to the level that I was led to believe when I signed my contracts, you have failed to meet your obligations under that same contract and your network usability has dramatically deteriated since I contracted you to be my provider.
On a recent trip to a major NSW rural centre (A major town with a large University) I discovered the hard way that only EDGE data was available on Vodafone in the area instead of the 3G data services available on Optus and Telstra. Whilst this may be due to the handset not being 900MHz capable but that does not explain why my 900MHz compatible Vodafone USB modem with wifi docking station was also only able to obtain EDGE data services at approximately Dial-up speed!
Voda you suck!
10 Jan 2011 06:34:07 PM: Well said! Vodafone are failing to keep up their side of the contract.
11 Jan 2011 01:26:59 PM: I'm in a large rural town with an uni and I am admiring my beautiful full bars of 3G signal strength. Never have an issue here. I love my Blackberryand I love where I live.
13 Jan 2011 07:22:01 AM: Lucky you :-)
Maybe all of australias vodafone customers should move to your rural town. I finally found a spot in sydney 500meters down the road from me where I had 4 bars of reception in 3G.. I got so excited i had to youtube something. NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE REGARDLESS OF WHERE I HAVE BEEN IN SYDNEY !! Anyway... Then I moved about 10 meters and lost signal.

Vodafone you dont deliver a service you deliver unforgettable stress and pain.

11809 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Completly at 10 Jan 2011 06:06:08 PM
I'll try cut it short. Was on a plan and had a overdue bill that wasn't paid due to loss of job which got disconnected. Eventually when I had the money I rang to pay the bill and the early termination fee. I got transferred around to 5 different departments with each 1 telling me a different figure. The final figure was given to me and it seemed lower then I expected, so I questioned if it was the whole amount. After being told yes I asked about 4 more times is that definitely it. Was told yes so I asked if there was nothing owing would I eligible for a new plan. Was told yes so I went and got a new phone that day on a new vodaphone plan. All was good until I received a bill for $1400 3 months into the contract. I rang customer care many times and each time they said it was the early termination fee from my last contract, I told them the story everytime asking them to look into it as I asked many times for the final payout figure. They made me out as if I were lying. How do u sign onto a new plan with the same company if there is $1400 bill still owing?? In the meantime of trying to sort this out I paid my monthly bill but refused to pay the $1400. I kept ringing bck trying to sort it out but after 3 months of the $1400 bill not paid they automatically disconnected my plan and sent me an early termination fee or nearly $2000 for the new contract. This is ontop of the $1400. I managed to get the new ETF wiped after many calls but was sent to debt collectors for the $1400. I was defeated after all my efforts and couldn't afford a bad credit rating I started to pay it.. After paying only $500 off a bill that was there error, my next payment came back saying I was $100 in credit?? My credit rating still got marked as unpaid default even tho i got a letter saying I'm in credit and I cannot get anymore phone plans. I just accepted it and are on pre-paid now. Credit rating stuffed and I dunno if I owe money or not all over a bill that I tried to pay and they couldn't give me the right figure! PATHETIC
10 Jan 2011 06:37:36 PM: This is a disgusting new low. Yet its easy to believe. What does that say about Vodafones reputation?! Whenever you speak to them - no matter how innocent the matter may seem - get a referral number for the conversation and save it.
11 Jan 2011 01:32:44 PM: You would have had the early termination fee explained to you at sign up. Even if an error was made (as you suspected) why should you not owe the correct amount. Mistakes can be made. The best and fairest solution would be to reverse your upgrade as you were misinformed. The early exit fee gets generated when you re-sign. You don't owe it till you end your previous contract.
11 Jan 2011 01:52:49 PM: Vodafone is the equivelent of Ye old highway robber exept in modern times. They do NOT care about customers like you and i and do NOT care about our problems in there ideas if you lose your job and cannot pay there bill they will send a 3rd grade english student to help u in your problem rather then hiring someone who has at least passed primary school and can understand simple enquiries. I simpathise for you as the same may happen to anyone.
11 Jan 2011 06:11:26 PM: Sorry you're really hard to understand 3:52. Are you referring to 3:32?
11 Jan 2011 06:12:27 PM: Since when did the world owe anyone a living? It's
11 Jan 2011 06:15:20 PM: terrible losing your job but it's business and you signed a contract. how's your mortgage? How are your credit cards? Why is a phone contract any different?

You guys are litterally all little girls. Holy shit. This media crap is allegations, no one has actually got evidence saying their information was obtained from Vodafone and used to assume their identity. Go to Telstra then, where they send out LETTERS to random people with your name address ect. where they obviously arent alegations because people are recieving these letters.

Fact of the matter is you get a call drop out and you (the little whiny bitches that if one thing goes wrong they spit the dummy) start collectively bitching about shit.

Grow up a bit, or go to Telstra who axe jobs left right and center, over price customers, treat their customers WORSE then crap and exploit the shit out of the rural market. And trust me. Ive been on both sides of the fence (both consumer and working there) and my time at Vodafone, customer and employee was unbelievable.
10 Jan 2011 06:06:30 PM: atleast Telstra's mobile network works, Vodafone can't even get that bit right - quite an important KPI for a mobile phone operator wouldn't you think?
10 Jan 2011 06:12:53 PM: Haha love how that reply ignores the privacy breach just because it's Telstra.
10 Jan 2011 06:18:08 PM: The Telstra privacy breach was serious just like the Vodafone one is - atleast Telstra's mobile network works, Vodafone can't even get that bit right - quite an important KPI for a mobile phone operator wouldn't you think? Hopefully that is acceptable to 08:12:53PM we wouldn't want them to be upset.
10 Jan 2011 06:22:29 PM: Perhaps 08:12:53PM is upset because they can't make any calls - BTW, atleast Telstra has coverage in rural areas [Outback NSW for instance]- I can see they they are being really exploited by having to put up with Telstra Coverage when no one else does.
10 Jan 2011 06:42:10 PM: @10 Jan 2011 07:56:54 PM, Firstly you come here as an employee, and you whinge and bitch at the customers that keep you in a job (good going, no wonder people don't want to be with your company anymore).

Then you go and try to drag down a much bigger (and better in so many ways) competitor just because you can't hack that your company is failing in so many ways.

Additionally you say that like your company doesn't do the same thing, yet posted just today on whirlpool is a post that proves vodafone have sent someones personal details to someone else?

Post here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?r=27609105#r27609105

10 Jan 2011 06:45:50 PM: Wow, settle down, and you say others are 'whiny bitches' who need to grow up! Take a deep breath dude. Sheesh.
I am on this site because my network problems have been going on for months, not because of the privacy breach (which shouldnt be taken lightly but shouldnt be exaggerated either). Don't assume that everyone is on this site just to bitch, as you have just done, but realise most are here because of genuine concerns and ongoing issues.
10 Jan 2011 09:41:57 PM: I wouldnt care if Telstra's customer service personnel could only speak Chinese, I would never have to call them about a network fault. Just got out of my contract 12 months early after one phone call to the TIO. Go to Telstra everyone....if you have a problem...ring the TIO and get a solution - thats what they are there for. Who cares what third world country these companies operate their businesses out of.

I have been a customer of Vodafone for many years and, until recently, havent had any major troubles other than busy music festivals. For the past few months I haven't been able to connect to the internet, or if i do it disconnects in a matter of seconds, my phone has dropped out and I have been experiencing trouble areas where my reception almost never works. I rang Vodafone (foolishly assuming that my years of loyal payments would make them want to help me) and waited on hold as patiently as possible to be told that my phone network had to be checked for 72 hours before I could even try to cancel my contract, and if I did then I would be charged money for doing it.
As I havent heard back from them I assume I will have to call again and am predicting Vodafone will tell me that there's nothing wrong with my connection and that the problem must be a defect in my mobile (which it is not).

Does anyone have any advice on how I can cancel my contract without being charged a fee? Surely they have breached my contract by not providing me with the service that was promised. And now I hear about all these security issues!.. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I don't want to continue paying for- or be charged for leaving- this substandard network.

Living in North Wollongong in 2010 you would think think that mobile phone reception would be high but no. I constantly have no signal and the 'Network Lost' message on my iphone screen. I occassionally in one corner of the townhouse have one bar of signal but this means it takes a long time to load anything and if i dare go for a walk in the house or go to get something the signal will drop and i will lose my call. I have no signal in Westfield Figtree and often when i am driving i will lose signal which is scary considering i commute and hour to work, i would hate to ever break down as i wouldn't be able to call anyone. I am very often inconvenienced by this and regret getting a contract with vodafone, i am a very frustrated customer...

11791 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Deader than Dodo... at 10 Jan 2011 04:36:37 PM
Hi,
I was a Microwave satellite communications technician and an Austel licenced telecommunications technician.
When I assisted Vodafone to put their mobile networks together around 15 years ago, they were the place to be.

Telstra had reliable coverage, but at great expense. They never seemed to be there when you really needed the coverage or the customer service.

Optus had lousy coverage with excellent customer service. But in direct competition with LIFELINE, they could counsel the customer to the point of curing mental illness...(if the line didn't drop out first...)

The end result of all this was that about half of all mobile calls were connected, completed and subsequently charged exorbitantly by Telstra.
At least when the other half of calls dropped out, you had someone who you could whinge to at Optus who would say "Yes" quite a lot.

Out of this came the shining beacon that was Vodafone. With their reasonable call rates, customer service and coverage!!! Once the news was out, all the technicians switched to vodafone in a flash.

Yes coverage! Vodafone had their own equipment! Without even resorting to network rental arrangements like all the other carriers had to do - 3, boost, dodo etc.
Because of this I used Vodafone for mobile telephone service for over 10 years, still do unfortunately.
Not for much longer!

Then I bought a prepaid broadband USB modem through Vodafone. After going to numerous Vodafone stores to wait AN HOUR to be served, only to find that the USB unit had "sold out" or was "out of stock". I then arrived at 2 separate Vodafone shop locations actively listed on the Vodafone website that were out of business.

I could have had the USB modem delivered by carrier pigeon by then, or made one myself with a broken digimon and a stick. As a tech I have installed (or failed) 4 of these units now, no two are alike. PC compatibility issues are rife.
The $49 USB modem does not even work in most netbooks, effectively making them underpowered miniature desktops.

Reception is appalling. I can see the tower from my house, it is 30 metres away. Line of sight!
As for the install - It would have taken less time to write the prepaid broadband USB software myself than to install it.
Registering, connecting and doing the initial install was the single most slow, painful and emotionally harrowing process I have had to endure in 20 years of software installation. It must be illegal under some convention somewhere...

Vodafone must have their website powered by underfed anorexic dyslexic hamsters.
These Hamsters are multitasking as the overworked software engineers...
The dead Hamsters in the bottom of the cage used to work customer service...

Mobile Broadband reception still drops out in the slightest breeze like UHF used to. I have tried USB extension cords (with some minor increase in signal strength) and modified broadband antennas. I am now blasting myself with enough RF to create my own personal cancer cluster or reheat a meat pie in three minutes...
At least it keeps my coffee warm while I sit through the install program - AGAIN!!!

Short of putting my PC in a Faraday cage and raising my own antenna mast or installing a parabolic dish on my head I cannot see Vodafone providing anyone with a usable mobile broadband connection.

Let's face it Vodafone, these towers were never designed to carry this amount of data traffic at this bandwidth.
The equipment is 15 years old, outdated, superseded and needs to be able to provide a continuous, consistent, reliable and strong signal. Roaming from tower to tower, 3G to GPRS and back again is painful, costly and disruptive.

Retailers should install "Vodafone" recycling bins at the front of retail premises. The junior work experience kid's arse has been turned into a thrashed USB port by the sheer number of returns this Christmas.

It's only 30 metres from my place to the tower. Hmmm... Maybe if I get a long piece of coax and climb up there and hard wire the bastard myself....
Oh sorry! That's called ADSL - YOU MORONS!!!!
10 Jan 2011 04:42:03 PM: I raise my glass to you sir/ma'am. That is beautiful! If that doesnt get a firecracker up their clacker then nothing will
10 Jan 2011 05:02:05 PM: I had the problem and where i live it above my unit and still had shit reciption good luck 30 mtrs away.
10 Jan 2011 05:06:27 PM: Golden post!
10 Jan 2011 05:47:29 PM: Eloquent and precise. Once my USB finally connected it didnt drop out, however, that could of been due to the sudden sluggishness of my laptop after an arduous installation that seems to have swapped all the memory space for programs wanting daily Vodafone updates. Surprisingly my phone connection is the reason I am on this site. Good luck with your plight, something tells me you'll be needing it.
10 Jan 2011 07:14:24 PM: A very articulate, informative and humorous post!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!
11 Jan 2011 08:57:31 AM: Did you try taking the sim card out and then putting it back in?
11 Jan 2011 08:06:48 PM: I love the history walk. I too have been long standing customer and sang the praises of Vodafone in its early days. All too sad now that the last few years have been so disappointing. At least this year my Christmas and New Years messages to friends arrived on time. Not like the previous 3 years where my messages took up to 3 days to go through. Looks like many people have left Vodafone to allow my messages to get through!
13 Jan 2011 08:14:13 PM: Yeah mostly comedy gold until you call them Morons. Seriously though the only trouble shooting that really needs doing with all the ones I've been helping people set up is to start a new user on the computer. The sticks don't like sharing assets that are already being used. Alternatively the powered up pocket wifi soap on a ropes are brilliant for increased pick up. Like how you plug in a antenna into the ac adapter and sturf for to increase teh receptron on your TEEvee. Sorry my inner moron came out...

11789 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Regret of switching at 10 Jan 2011 04:33:42 PM
I switched to Voda for a cheaper Iphone plan. I did not know that Voda have bad network and bad 3G data connection. 1st month I'm with Voda, GPRS keeps being disconnected. Downloading video shows format is not recognized once every two times trying. 40mins waiting time to speak with customer service and then the call dropped out. And the data quota shows less than what I signed up for. Customer service even had a long response from their own system and promised to call me back but no call yet. The signal is ok at home or at work but really bad once I go to lower ground while my wife's phone still have some signal. I found all of those in less than 1 month. Can I still cancel the contract?

11788 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is digging an even deeper hole ? at 10 Jan 2011 04:30:23 PM
After contacting them today to cancel a contract which they said they were previously allowing, I was told that 'I' have to prove in '3 ways' how Vodafone has failed me ? I was told, "you can say poor coverage" or something else, and then told how 'I' have to document it and then go to a store to "prove it". Obviously after their little team meeting this morning this is the new directive, but are they kidding ? Idiots !! Good luck with your PR disaster, makes for a really great case study in PR FAIL !!
10 Jan 2011 04:40:18 PM: BPity the poor Voda employee I met today. He's a Business IT student and absolutely exasperated and embarrassed. My "canceled" contract has been reactivated within hours!!

11786 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is MEGA FAIL!!!!! at 10 Jan 2011 04:23:12 PM
How do you contact Vodafone in SA??? Look in the 2010-2011 White Pages, with the exception of a store at Golden Grove, there's no listing for Vodafone, nothing for "3", nothing for Hutchinson Telecom. So how can I get my phone fixed (which went haywire within 2 weeks)? Store I got it from wont exchange it because I dont have the box it came in & the phone's manufacturer arent helpful either. They have no(kia) idea.
10 Jan 2011 04:32:53 PM: Is it an N8?

Of course they won't just exchange the handset - there are policies in place.

How many days from point of sale have you had the handset for?
Do you have a proof of purchase?
Did you buy it from a retailer or dealership?

We need the full sales kit so we can do the exchange - all we swap is the handset unless the accessories are faulty also.

You can call 1555 from your mobile or 1300 650 410, but customer care has been in serious meltdown today so the store is your best option. Please reply so I can help.

Also, whats your postcode? I'll try and find store numbers for you to contact.
10 Jan 2011 04:42:49 PM: @ Jan 2011 06:32:53 PM: I have heard they are in serious meltdown.........what is the problem, any idea/facts?????
10 Jan 2011 04:46:18 PM: It started having problems less than 2 weeks after getting it, i went back to the store with all accessories & pamphlets that came with the pack & receipt. Only thing missing was the box. Already had Vodafone contract, got the phone as an "upgrade". Got it from glenelg store
10 Jan 2011 04:50:43 PM: The issue is that i cant access the social application (facebook, twitter etc). Ive called Nokia & vodafone & all the suggestions/methods have failed. even restoring factory settings doesnt get it working.
10 Jan 2011 04:52:10 PM: BTW it is an N8 phone. On Nokia's website, there's a discussion there about the fail of the social apps, but no mention of any carriers.
10 Jan 2011 04:56:11 PM: Do you have the box though?
All you need is to bring the handset and the box. We put the new handset in your box, and take the old one and place it in the new box for serial validation when we send it back to servicing.

If it is within the 28 day cooling period, which is why I asked for specifics, you have the right to have a new handset of the same model and same colour on the spot.
That is if the store has it in stock. All you will need is the receipt, and if you don't, we can print a proof of purchase to send with the faulty handset.

There really shouldn't be a problem if you have those things. If you send away the handset 3 times back to servicing, you have the right to be authorised for a handset swap to a different handset.

If we cannot see the fault in store, though, we do have to follow policy and send it away for servicing straight away. If it is physically or water damaged, that 28 day cooling period does not cover such faults, and insurance is the only way to get a new handset.

As for customer care:
It's just traffic from my knowledge; they're working overtime and I think the service crashed for a few hours. That's it.
10 Jan 2011 04:57:34 PM: Ps
Customers have great difficulty with the Ovi application with the N8. If this is the only fault, unfortunately you will have to take that up with Nokia.
10 Jan 2011 05:09:18 PM: Box is the one thing I dont have. Learnt my lesson. I took it back within 2 weeks but staff member who served me made no mention of cooling off period. Time to getting on Nokia's case then to fix it or replace handset. Thanks for the info.
10 Jan 2011 05:13:25 PM: Not a problem, hope this helps others too.
Good luck.

In January last year I signed a contract with vodafone for the iphone 3 on a $49.00 per month contract with insurance for theft, loss etc, as per the sales clerk in the vf store - or so I was lead to believe. In July last year my phone was stolen from my parents house and when I went to arrange a new phone was told my contract did not have insurance included, the sales clerk should not have told me it was and there is nothing they can do except shut the phone down and give me a new sim card, oh but I can get another contract for the same phone if I wanted to - pay 2 contracts for 1 phone???? I chose nt to get cuaght in another contract and now I'm lucky to be able to make a call off the new sim card due to reception issues, line cuts out, no service etc. All I want is out of this contract with no penalties against my credit history and to NEVER have to give vodafone another cent EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!! Customer service provides me with no response to this request other than "you can end your contract in January 2012", um, that's when the contract ends, very cleaver voda-ripp, not happy at all.
10 Jan 2011 04:08:55 PM: Insurance is $9.95 a month, did you ever pay for it?. They will not cancel your contract unless you return your handset. Or you will have to pay a cancellation fee.

I have all the usual problems, as stated on this forum;

faded calls, dropped-out calls, no messages recieved, phone doesnt ring when a call comes through...:-<

My issue No 1. Now, im not an expert in the telco industry, so how am I to know whether it is my phone or Vodafail coverage? Why should I have to make this distinction, is this not Vodafails and my phone retailers job? Why cant they resolve these very basic issue, and why are they marketing AND CHARGING for these obviously faulty products and service!!

Issue No. 2 Why as consumers, are we not covered by the basic consumer laws that state, when you buy a service or a product that fails to meet the requirements that are being paid for and that were laid down in the contract, you are entitled to a return, credit refund, or total refund?

10 Jan 2011 03:18:16 PM: You have already posted a fair few positive comments with very little content, mainly consisting of personal attacks. We have left some of those up so everyone can see your immaturity.
10 Jan 2011 03:21:39 PM: MY IMMATURITY? this is a website where you complain about vodafone, its stupid you have no idea what your doing destroying alot of things, when vodafone falls telstra will own,

One guy pissed off with coverage takes class action against vodafone, did someone make you go with vodafone, or did you walk in and sign the contract yourself?

10 Jan 2011 03:24:32 PM: wow moderators on a website, it annoys me this site is up, do you really need 12,000 people to write in with there problems to take voda to court?
10 Jan 2011 03:31:17 PM: Before this thread turns into a bunfight, can everyone please take a deep breath........hold it...........breathe out.........there, that is much better. Please debate in a mature adult fashion or your posts will be deleted. Thanks Vodafail.com mod
10 Jan 2011 03:42:49 PM: i agree with your comment i just dont agree with this site, aimed to slander and hurt a business.
Not just vodafone, but everysingle big business
10 Jan 2011 03:50:05 PM: Time to clarify a few things:

@10 Jan 2011 05:21:39 PM: Nobody is destroying Vodafone except for Vodafone themself. All this site has done is bring a community together to show everyone they are not alone. This site would not exist if everything was 'peachy' because everyone would not be having problems. Again in case you missed the point of this post, Vodafone have put themself in this predicament, not anyone else. Finally the person that started this site did not start the class action (I don't even think he has registered for the class action, but I am not 100% sure if he has or hasn't), the class action was started by the Law Firm 'Piper Alderman', and they had already received many complaints from customers before this site was started.

So time to take some deep breaths, get your facts straight, and then come up with a common sense reply.

10 Jan 2011 03:56:41 PM: why are you even bothering to write positive comments on a CLEARLY anti vodafone site. They are the ones causing all these people with so much stress and stealing our money. we'll stop complaining when they fix there company and stop ripping everyone off
11 Jan 2011 04:00:08 PM: I agree, this is not a hate site. This is for people to share their experiences with Vodafone. It is a not site for people that come here either swearing their heads off or/and looking for a fight.

And get your facts straight man. Why come here if you know nothing about why you're here? Stop ruining this site for the rest of us.
11 Jan 2011 05:33:34 PM: Even if every post was a single new complaint about Voda say 11000 posts divide that into say 4000000 customers (theres more than that) and then say times in by 10 cos for every 1 that bothers etc...you get 2.75% of customers complaining including ones that haven't with very generous maths! Simple maths proves that the problem is affecting way less people then this site would make it appear. Talk about blowing things out of proportion. Soon things will be better for you 3% rest assured...

Lightning Ridge, NSW got 26,000 visitors registered last year.
Many and others were from overseas and had been told their vodaphones work here.
Some stay for up to a week buying opal. Vodaphone does not work in L.Ridge. People refuelling aircraft, lost etc are very angry that their phones do not work. Many are told by vodaphone that they will. Please put a sign at sydney/brisbane airport Vodaphone does not work in L Ridge.I have tried talking to voda sales staff and emailing. The ombudsman said go to ACMA who said go to ombudsman. I am not a customer !!!!!

11760 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is 110% FAILED at 10 Jan 2011 03:09:03 PM
At this very moment I have attempted to contact customer service 1555 from both my mobile and the 1300 number on my home phone so I can finalise my final bill to switch to another carrier as my contract has ended. Attempt 1, 2 & 3 saw the call drop out after about a minute and each call back resulted in me having to sit through a 30 second spiel about how Vodafone takes customer infomation security seriously etc. The 4th time had me on hold for 25 mins, finally got through to someone and spoke half a paragraph only to have the call drop out. The rest of the frustrating calls resulted in a message from Lara saying ' We are experiencing technical difficulties, please hang up and call again'. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???????!!!!!!! THE ONLY DIFFICULTY VODAFAIL IS HAVING IS THE LARGE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS THAT ARE COMING THROUGH.
I have been with Vodafone for many years, both pre-paid and contract on numerous occasions - I WILL NEVER GO BACK. VODAFONE GO TO HELL.
10 Jan 2011 03:20:13 PM: im up to the 9th attempt i know what your going through ...
10 Jan 2011 03:46:07 PM: 5 attempts both on mobile and via landline, CAN'T get through, keeps dropping out
13 Jan 2011 08:16:34 PM: Don't bother trying at the moment or for the next few days. I need to get through tomorrow to help out a customer.

11759 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is extremely bad at 10 Jan 2011 03:08:39 PM
Massive call dropout, sms take forever to send and most of the time I can not access the internet. When I first received my vodafail handset it took 4 calls and numerous transfers to different people just to set up my handset for internet access, which rarely connects.

I was with 3 for years and then just changed over to vodafone last Feb and has been disaster after disaster.. Call drop outs, messages and voicemails received 12-24 hours late and then they cant give me a reason. You call up and wait 45 mins to actually speak to someone and also get charged for the call. Pathetic, just pathetic, wish i had just gone to optus...
10 Jan 2011 03:09:33 PM: 3 and Vodafone are the same company, they use the same network.
call toyota they give a fu*k
10 Jan 2011 07:14:44 PM: They do NOT use the same network. Same company (VHA), 2 networks (Three & Voda) If they do use the same network, would you care to explain why I had coverage on my 3 phone at Grays Point (NSW) but not on my Voda handset?

Let me guess, 80% of you have iPhones? or smart phones?
iPhones have killed the network
the rest of you just wanna bi**h online
10 Jan 2011 03:19:21 PM: If vodafone want to blame the iPhones then they shouldn't sell them. If you offer the product, you support it with your network. Simple as that.
10 Jan 2011 07:41:37 PM: MY girlfriend and i both own iPhones and have perfect recption. But the less than 5% of people not getting coverage that they find acceptable, regardless of the handset they are using should be able to receive a compensation or leave their contract without penalty
16 Jan 2011 12:22:47 PM: So stop offering "unlimited" and phone data plans like 6 Gig for $20. You sell something and then complain it's not your fault when people try to use what they've sold you????? What planet are you on?

10 Jan 2011 03:08:25 PM: Yeah, Go to telstra or optus they pick up the phone straight away when you call.
No computer and no waiting, and they click there fingers and your problem is fixed
10 Jan 2011 03:55:55 PM: Good luck with that, telstra stuffed me that many times
10 Jan 2011 07:16:01 PM: If you speak to Vodafone in a CALM manner, they will more than likely move you back to 3 quite happily....

The thing is you can't even get a hold of customer service? WHAT SERVICE! Spent over 2hrs on hold with absolutely no results/acknowledgement/return call... VODAFAIL!
Can't wait til the end of the month when my contract is up! GONESKIESSSSS! Hello Telstra!

Constant call drop outs when I live in a major urban area, on top of a hill, and even the top level of an apartment building.... it should be ultimate coverage here! It caused a family arguement as someone thought I was hanging up on them and then couldn't get through when they phoned back.... Thanks Vodafail on causing a few tears!!

11750 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Not at all at 10 Jan 2011 02:34:39 PM
I have found Vodafone fantastic, i have been with them since 2001. (both NZ and AU). Staff are great, never had a problem with them at all. counter staff have never been anything but helpful. found the coverage better than optus by far. the phones themselves have never been a problem - nokias, sony ericssons.
10 Jan 2011 02:57:05 PM: Ive also never had all these problems, ive been with vodafone for 7 -8 years and phones has maybe dropped out 5times...
iPhones and all smart phones a S**T and thats why your all having reception problems
VODAFONE IS BETTER THAN TELSTRA at least you can talk to a person
10 Jan 2011 03:21:25 PM: hahaha did you get paid to write that comment? havent your realised half the time vodafone has 1 bar reception or no connection? vodafone better than telstra? hahahahha next joke please
10 Jan 2011 03:54:39 PM: obviosly not paid much, cos comment aint worth s#@t
10 Jan 2011 07:19:59 PM: Not everyone is experiencing network issues. This post just proves it. I'm sitting in Benowa (5 mins out of Surfers) and I have perfect reception.
Just because you have a problem, it doesn't mean that everyone does!
10 Jan 2011 07:30:32 PM: @ 10 Jan 2011 09:19:59 PM, We realise not everyone is experiencing problems, as a matter of fact I have a friend that swears by Vodafone. However this site is just a small percentage of the customers that are experiencing major network problems, and believe me alot of people do not know about this site nor do they post on websites about this sort of stuff. If everyone did know about this site and posted about the problems they are experiencing you could guarantee the number of posts would be alot bigger.

@10 Jan 2011 04:57:05 PM, it is funny, I keep hearing vodafone employees blaming the iphone and smart phones in general, yet they work perfectly fine on Telstra and Optus networks. The only inconsistent is the Vodafone network that cannot cope with the extra bandwidth smart phones require.

11749 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Megafail at 10 Jan 2011 02:33:49 PM
In short: for the last month (and for some time before that but not to
the same extent), I have experienced terrible service from Vodafone.
Calls dropping out repeatedly, text and voicemail messages not arriving
or being very delayed, network dropping out completely and needing
repeated reboots of the phone, and extremely slow data. This is in every
location, not just at my home.

My experience of calling Vodafone has been:
1. The network team telling me it's a problem with my phone (iphone 3GS)
2. The iphone team telling me it's a problem with the network
3. The network team telling me that it is a problem with the network at
my house but that I then needed to talk to the iphone team
4. The iphone team telling me that is incorrect and I have to deal with
the network team to troubleshoot
5. Call dropped out
6. Spoke to the technical department who told me there was no problem
with the network at my house
7. Asked to speak to the disconnections department after being sick of
waiting and getting shuffled around
8. Disconnections department telling me that there is a well documented
issue with the vodafone network in Melbourne due to the 3 merger but
they could only disconnect me without a fee if I spoke to the network
team
9. I informed her I didn't want to wait another 45 min on hold so could
she have network call me back
10. Waited for call back, never happened
11. Called back and spoke to technical team who said they could only
escalate me to network if I troubleshooted with them which I couldn't at
the time as only phone around was my mobile which I was using
12. Called back later on my partner's phone, kept waiting over 45 min
only for the call to cut out
13. Next day spoke to technical team again, troubleshooted but this did
not help
14. Advised that could only escalate further if I could document 3 drop
outs at my house over 72 hour period, and if claiming a widespread
problem it must be 3 drop outs in each of 3 different documented
locations
15. Over weekend have had repeated delayed texts, call drop outs and
ridiculously slow data but in widespread locations including my home.

I emailled this to Vodafone customer help because i couldn't bear to deal with Lara and her mega wait time and this is the reply I received:

"RESPONSE:
Question: Why is there an unusual or unexpected charge on my current bill?
Answer:
View our online Bill Explainer here

If you notice unusual or unexpected charges on your bill, this may be due to the following reasons:

1. If this is your first bill since connecting to Vodafone, all standard charges for new accounts are charged from the date of connection until the start of the next bill cycle, plus one month of access charged in advance. This monthly fee charged in advanced will cover the next billing period. On your second bill, there will only be one monthly access charge. This is for your next billing period and is paid in advance. If you change plans, part of the monthly access charge that you have paid in advance wil be credited on a pro-rata basis................" etc. etc.

What the...?

10 Jan 2011 02:58:30 PM: iPhone are very bad, there reception is crap on every network ive tried i have a blackberry now with vodafone and its perfect
10 Jan 2011 03:22:05 PM: Vodafone call centre person told me that it is my iPhone's fault because they need too much bandwidth. HOWEVER - 6 months ago and all before that, my service and data speed were perfect! They can't blame the product. And besides that, by selling me a phone on a 24 mth contract they are endorsing it and agreeing to support it, so its just rubbish. It's the network and nothing else.

Woeful 3G coverage - Cabarita NSW. I am now operating on one bar of 2G cover in the very same place where I used to get six bars of 3G. Jumping thru hoops to eliminate any issues with my phone etc. Promises of call backs to advise where investigations are at - never happen. Hugely long wait times in support queues. I just want to cancel my service - nothing else. No compensation, just let mt quit!!!

I currently Live in Casey my partner and i get very little to no reception in our own home, we do not have a home phone. I have just got off the phone to Vodafone (after a 2 hour phone call, including being "disconnected" twice! Finally speaking to a helpful Customer service officer, aftyer running through all my settings on my Iphone 3GS and realising all my settings are correct and it is just their crap network they have now launched an investigation into the coverage at our house. If it comes back that it can't be fixed straight away they will be cancelling our contracts we send our phones back etc. So for all you people out there that don't get reception or get little reception at your own house call VOdafone and go through the steps, it may take a couple of hours, but be patient and you maybe able to get out of your contract! Next stop Telstra...

11746 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Not at all at 10 Jan 2011 02:22:21 PM
I don't have any issues with Vodafone, having been with them since 2003.

I use Nokia phones (private and business), not iPhones (which also causes problems), and have full signal, wherever I go.

Some people want the world, for a good price. Want better? Go pay more cheapskates.
10 Jan 2011 02:35:53 PM: With all possible respect, I'm happy you're not experiencing the issues so many of us are. However, just because you're not having issues means you're lucky. I'm currently paying $100 per month for my mobile service, not exactly 'cheap' when I can get the similar or better value with a more reliable service from Optus or Telstra.

There are too many people using the network, because they didn't think ahead about the consequences of loading up customers on a network that couldn't cope.
10 Jan 2011 02:37:04 PM: Look Tosser - people are not asking for 'the world', they are asking for decent reception and to be able to rely on their phones to work for them when they need them. That is not too much to ask.
10 Jan 2011 03:00:54 PM: You expect so much as a customer it is true, customers are sh*t... telstra $129 a month for unlimited calls, awesome reception!
Vodafone $45 a month for unlimited calls, reception drop outs, (dont have a stupid iPhone)
10 Jan 2011 03:17:12 PM: Agree. I have no issues either and I have an iphone and live 60km from the city. Vodafone are fantastic. As far as the person who wrote the "look tosser" comment - no wonder you have issues. Not necessary, as with every company in existence, there are good and bad experiences and people who are having good experiences with Vodafone should mention these also.
10 Jan 2011 03:25:51 PM: Can you please keep the name calling down?? Please debate in a nice constructive fashion or your posts will be moderated. Thanks Vodadfail.com mod
11 Jan 2011 09:23:51 AM: It's great that some people are fine with Vodafone. I was happy for 6 months after moving from Three, then in mid December the service went to hell.

Release me from the contract as Vodafone are failing to meet their obligations and I shall move network happily. I am not happy paying for a hit and miss service that has resulted in my missing important family messages, and failing to pick up work related calls.
11 Jan 2011 02:47:08 PM: Wanting a predictable connection with a network is not 'asking the world'. If a connection is advertised at a 'good price', it should be delivered. Also, getting the best value for your money does not equal 'cheapskate'. Why would a consumer pay more for a service than they have to, if there are no apparent differences at the point of sale?
