26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

1297 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is The worst! at 21 Dec 2010 08:11:13 AM
They say problems have been fixed but I couldn't send or receive sms or make/receive phone calls for most of the day yesterday. If a phone call did eventually make it through, it pushed a bunch of sms with it.

I've been with vodafone forever, this is SO disappointing...

1296 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Useless. at 21 Dec 2010 08:06:50 AM
I used to have vodafone mobile broadband. The coverage was shit so I cancelled my contract and sent back the USB modem. This was 3 or more months ago. I noticed in my emails that they are still billing me.. So I called them. After being on hold for AGES they transferred me to a different department, then told me I had been transferred to the wrong department. I gave up trying and just hung up. I called back the next day and again, they transferred me to several wrong departments. To this day they continue to bill me. I'm not even going to bother trying again. Their customer service is just bullshit. If they can't tell that me not using any data mean I DO NOT HAVE THE INTERNET ANYMORE then they are morons.

no reception to make or receive calls, no reception to send messages. Dont forget the occasional "sim not allowed" message.
I would have thought some part of the contract signed with vodafone said they had to actually provide a service for the money they charge........

Was with 3 for a number of years and happily recommended them to my friends. Had no issues untill they 'teamed up' with Vodafone. Since then I have struggled to get reception in Ferntree Gully, Caulfield, and King Street Melbourne. I have now apologised to my friends who signed on. Avoid at all costs.
21 Dec 2010 03:07:33 PM: You do realise that nothing changed with the 3 network when they merged... So laying your problems at Vodafones feet is kinda stupid.

1292 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Fixing my service at 21 Dec 2010 07:34:57 AM
ok well i get put on hold for a very long time like 40 minutes and i couldnt ring the 1555 number as that was not working so i called the 1300 number and then get told i will be charged for it after holding for 40 mins , and then i get put on hold through to section and section and still get no where , and then i get told to ring back on the 20th which i did but was on hold for 50 mins so gave up and will try again later , i need to sort out what i need to pay to cancel my contract or at least upgrade with no fee for the shit service im getting and pay for each month, im sick of talking to people that dont speak english and dont care !!! i pay $90.00 a month for god sake i should get some type of service with someone that cares !!! VODAFAIL alright
21 Dec 2010 12:57:20 PM: im sure they speak perfect english.. just have an accent!!
21 Dec 2010 01:11:12 PM: I find them extremely polite and pleasant to talk to.
21 Dec 2010 01:39:41 PM: they probably think the same about you accent hahaha
21 Dec 2010 06:59:36 PM: No need to get racist- If Voda the F*ck employed Scots speaking at a thousand miles an hour it would be worse, Jimmeh. And you'd be frightened they knew where you lived. (Just joking, Jimmeh)

22 Dec 2010 03:23:54 PM: Or, if you want true Australians, how about Tony(The Man) Mundine and all his family?
22 Dec 2010 09:26:26 PM: if you want to speak to an australian you can ask to be transfered to loyalty and retention
22 Dec 2010 09:26:49 PM: or alternatively get off your ass and go to a store
27 Dec 2010 07:52:20 AM: It is not racist to want to spend your money with a company that has staff you understand. No, they don't speak perfect English. No it is not just an accent. No it is not all Indian call centers - just the half baked discounted ones that VF use.

1291 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is hopeless at 21 Dec 2010 07:28:43 AM
Was with Vodafone for 5 years but the service performance was getting worse and worse that me and my partner had to leave the network. When I called the customer service line to ask when my contract would be up, they asked why I was thinking of leaving Vodafone, I answered as honestly as I could "Your network is so unreliable I can't make/receive calls and sms..." the rep just answered "oh... okay... is there anything else I can do for you today?" FAIL VODAFONE... FAIL!

1286 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Bad in hospital area at 21 Dec 2010 06:27:10 AM
No-one mentions the link with Mobile 3 (my 'official' telco). I couldn't make any calls from the Women's Hospital/Melbourne University area in Carlton on a Sunday morning (19 December). In this area Sunday morning is quiet (no students and after the exams) so phoning should not be a problem. At the same time my brother was getting good wireless reception through another carrier (I called using his wireless and Skype) An hour later and two kilometres away I could finally make calls. 3 users have been suggesting service quality would go down with the merger with Vodafone. Well, they are right!
21 Dec 2010 03:08:43 PM: As above, the networks are still seperate. Blaming Voda for 3's network failings is again a misguided thought.
21 Dec 2010 06:18:31 PM: yes..the networks are separate, but they have only been concentrating (hardly succeeding) getting voda brand up to # 1. There is hardly any improvments being made on the 3 side as the push is to make sure VODA does not fail.

1283 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is must be forced to assist at 21 Dec 2010 05:20:42 AM
Vodafone - please expect a civil suit to cover your customers lost business and time.
It really doesn't matter what you do from here. You're a bunch of dishonest bastards.
Funny thing is that the staff in your stores seem to agree. I've been to three stores to deal with my ongoing issues and the staff freely admit what a dodgy outfit you are. Specifically, they admit that the customer service system (which one staff member said you had spent $90B on - I think not), was causing more harm than good. All your staff mention that they have a gag order imposed, but they don't seem to care (I guess that's because they're so pissed off with you too). Your staff have freely admitted that there are obvious signs of a downturn in customer sign ups (but also admit that head office is happy to give out numbers on new connections, but not disconnections).
This is not made up. If you want store details, dates and times, then don't worry Vodafone, I keep records of my interactions with your 'team'. Just like so many others do.
Dealing with Vodafone is becoming a part time job!

1276 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Veryfail at 21 Dec 2010 04:36:12 AM
I'm suffering like the rest same hassles as the above .I am a loyal person and I am trying to ride it out ,Been with them since day 1 .I travel a lot and what I dont get is there service works unreal overseas but is so useless here.A lot of times I get abused by people for cutting them off when it's the drop outs causing teh hassle. The killer for me was I spent 3 weeks ago 3 days and at least 2 hours each day with Vodafone trying to repair my email connection from Optus to Vodafone only for them to admit 3 days later that their is a service problem between the two of them - My email on phone is still not working.
I can say one thing truly that if I pulled out every bill for the last 3 years Vodafone will owe me half the money in recalls I have made in drop outs.
So why not a class action law suit ? I am certain Vodafone owe me about $4000.00 in recalls and redials the last couple of years.
How about a class action Law suit?

1274 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is really? at 20 Dec 2010 11:19:12 PM
Is the creator of this page really blaming Vodafone about battery life?
(says on main page)

What the......that doesn't even make sense, ummm wouldn't that be Nokia or whatever?
21 Dec 2010 12:11:48 PM: A phone that has to search for reception constantly uses more battery.
Me and my friends have proved this when we went away to a remote
place and our phones all ran out of battery quicker because they
were searching for reception the whole time. Der.
So no, not Nokia or whatever.
21 Dec 2010 07:18:17 PM: True- I was advised make 2G the default, and only switch to 3G when i really want 3G
27 Dec 2010 11:16:18 AM: Indeed. 2G consumes considerably less power than 3G, even in areas where both 2G and 3G have a strong signal. The fact that 3G signal strength is much lower than 2G across most of Vodafone's network compounds this problem. I notice MUCH improved battery life if I lock my phone to 2G (and just flick to 3G when I need data).
27 Dec 2010 10:19:00 PM: You'd probably notice better service as well.

I don't understand how some of you are complaining about the network when it obviously isn't affecting everyone. I'm currently using my vodafone to write this comment.this page loaded in three seconds. And I have had no call drop outs. Except for when I'm in a tunnel which is understandable. I think a lot of the problem is the user and not optimizing their phone.
21 Dec 2010 01:01:31 PM: Yeah the technology has progressed way faster than the users ability to cope with it.
27 Dec 2010 12:22:06 PM: I work in online teaching technology such as IP video conferencing. I co-wrote the plan for the Aarnet National Video conferencing service and its associated quality assurance. I have installed transmission equipment for microwave and satellite. I know more about the related technology that most users on this page all put together.. MY PHONE SERVICE IS CRAP, I dont need LOSERS like you telling me that its MY FAULT.. TYPICAL VODAHO BS, go away you STUPID IGNORANT VODAHO TROLLS. If I did MY job as badly as Vodacrap does, I WOULD BE FIRED.
27 Dec 2010 12:24:17 PM: The ACCC has said that Vodafones service is CRAP and NOT UP TO STANDARD. Do THEY not know how to "optimise" their phone too?? Would you like to suggest HOW I "OPTIMISE" my Nokia phone TO PICK UP SIGNAL INSIDE A BUILDING AT WORK?

1271 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Front Line Troops at 20 Dec 2010 10:54:13 PM
Hey everyone, I actually work in a Vodafone store, first up just wanna say yea somethings going on but just wanna point out and maybe ask a few things of you guys! I'm not here to rain on your parade and yea defiantly have noticed a increase of customers coming in with problems, about 1 in 10 customers.

First up we really can't do much for you in store, were not allowed to advise formal tech support, and we can't cancel contracts or waive any fees' or usage charges, all we could do is call the cust care number and hand the phone to you, it's just the way it works.
The only other things we can do from our store is send a phone away under a warranty or do a Sim swap, that's not to say that's all you can do, it's just all we can do, everything else goes through customer care.

I have seen in our Vodafone store many many incidents of customers upset and with good reason, but taking it out on staff I have sent 3 staff home early last week and two the week before in tears, I even had to call security at one point. Please go easy on staff guys, and maybe unless you wanna do anything in regards to this besides a Sim swap or sending your phone away, you'll truly be wasting time coming in, it's really all we can do.

Don't quote me on it, but if you ask me I think the problem may be the amount of iPhone's running on the network, AT&T had massive problems with reports of as little as 10% of Iphone users chewing 90% capacity, Vodafone have been installing new towers with this in mind but the desire for this phone is ridiculous i think they have just sold to many iPhone's, and apple still can't supply em' fast enough to meet demand.

i don't know all the details of the network upgrading, but I really do believe if people keep demanding this phone from us at the rate they are we'll never be able to catch up and everyone will suffer.

Once again I may be wrong, and it doesn't justify it, but it would explain it.
21 Dec 2010 01:19:56 PM: Cross sell! There are other phones that smash the Iphone for technology, passion and freedom to do as you choose with it!
21 Dec 2010 10:09:53 PM: if this is the case then why were voda so hell bent on signing everyone up? mate of mine used to work there and he said targets go up and up and up. to obviously get bonus you would have had to have reached that target right? so why make stores targets so high if you know you cant support that many people on the network that you are signing up? this is in no way directed at you but it is very poor. I think it is putrid how people abuse staff and I agree with the store can't do much. people really need to think of contacting complaints departments so calls relating to problems are recorded and record them yourself so that if you need to go to TIO you have evidence, not just, 'oh my phone hasnt been working for months, i dont care that it is out of warranty, i could have brought it in and i didnt". as well as providers providing good service, people need to take ownership of their things and not take it out on staff when they dont.
22 Dec 2010 02:27:23 PM: I love how someone casually throws out the "switch sell", when you work in an area where people have more money than sense and teenagers with the same attitude towards money.. its hard to attempt a switch sell to something that they "HAVE" to have... I agree that there are many "better" handsets than the Iphone4, but when your dealing with wankers who just want a status symbol its not as easy as you make it sound...
27 Dec 2010 01:25:13 PM: get over it i worked for a failing telco on phones try that, moneys money suck it up

1266 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is the worst network in AU at 20 Dec 2010 10:16:53 PM
I've used Voda for over 5 years in Queensland. Like everyone else, I was initially sucked in by the cheap rates, and the old adage 'you get what you pay for' has never rung more true. Started with prepay, went onto a contract around 3 years ago. About 18 mths /2 yrs ago all the family's different Voda handsets started dropping calls more regularly, callers could hear us answering but we couldn't hear them, and calls we made were not dialing through (handset shows a call is in progress but she's all blank). Different handsets from LG, Motorola, Nokia, and differing locations. I went through the help desk scenario, talked to techies and CSRs, even got a call back from a team dedicated to making it appear they cared. All with the same result in that the network problems were recognized, & network fixes were either 'coming' or had been 'delayed'. Many times on hold, waiting. I ported my number to my land line provider with a new contract, but AAPT uses Voda's network to carry, stuck in the same boat (fool!). Done all the SIM resets, handset resets and tests. My work mobile is on Voda also, when it drops a call I immediately check my other phone to try making the call (Blackberry vs Nokia) and even though both show signal neither works = NETWORK PROBLEMS. I can be anywhere in the Brisbane Metro area. Coverage in Metro isn't so much the problem as Network availability. When it's not actually down, overloading is crowding out the slots available. It's not rocket science and they know all about it, no mystery. They just don't want to spend money fixing it, which means they don't give a toss about their customers. I know that not many Telco's do here in AU, but these pricks take the cake!! I am now going to force the issue and get the hell out. Well done...
22 Dec 2010 09:56:24 PM: ACTUALLY, the company has spent over 50 BILLION dollars this year alone on network upgrades. so stick that up your ass
27 Dec 2010 12:17:36 PM: wow all that money and such a CRAP NETWORK.. Someone needs to be fired.. (and nice attitude from an obvious VodaHO troll AS USUAL, just like their "Customer Service" or COMPLETE LACK OF..

Have to pay my monthly plan plus insurance for nothing! Cannot receive calls, cannot make calls, cannot get out of my contract. My husband was standing next to me and rang my number from his mobile(other Telco) and I never got the call and we live in Brisbnae - not on the moon!
22 Dec 2010 09:19:41 PM: there is obviosuly something wrong with either your handset or your sim card. by going into store you can get a replacement sim which is free of chanrge that can dramtically increase reception. The staff can also troubleshoot with u and if the service is deemed faulty you are of course free to break the contract.

1263 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Are you serious? at 20 Dec 2010 09:04:12 PM
To the recent posters from Tassie, it is great that you are all getting great reception. There is obviously a problem that seems to be hitting NSW, ACT and parts of Queensland the hardest. I think calling people moronic because they expect a phone and internet service provider to honor their side of the contract is a bit short sighted.

Say you are in a car accident, or your kid is having an asthma attack while you are at a park and you are having the same issues experienced in this post. If you couldn't phone for help I bet you're attitude would change considerably.

Just keep in mind that people are frustrated with their service from Vodafone at the moment (and yes, it is actually a problem - a simple Google search would show that Vodafone is under investigation from the ACCC).

1247 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is its like reusing toilet paper at 20 Dec 2010 06:11:55 PM
Got on vodafone plan over a year or so back. Have had problems since get go. Call drop outs, bad coverage, bad call quality, phone internet issues, multiple handset issues etc. Called vodafone multiple times but could not get through to anyone. In fact, after waiting for half hour, the actual vodafone IVR system would drop calls. Before the introduction of 'Lara' you did have a 1 in 80 chance to talk to someone in a call centre in india. But they talk more, listen less and read off a scenario script that meant they would ramble on about what they are NOT able to do and what the problem MAY be, rather than talk about when and how it would be fixed. But they will bar your phone for non-payment regardless of your problem being related.
After complaining to TIO I finally got a response from the Vodafone Resolution Centre, but you could not talk to a more useless person. Issue still not resolved. Bare in mind one thing. The TIO complaint is a formal process, however there is also a response framework and as long as Vodafone responds within that framework, it is safe from any serious penalty. A real resolution is open to interpretation, as does the root problem. The TIO does try its best to help you but the laws and regulation that equip them, appear loose or not up-to-date enough to hold any Telecommunication Company to any reasonable Consumer Standards. But then again why should Vodafone do anything about its service standards. The Industry sector it is a part of, does not have any real regulation to deliver quality. Its not as if any of the other Telecoms are any better. And they have no reason to be. Our national telco is Telstra........ and how many complaints has Telstra had and for how many years........... and how good is it today................ I am glad to see someone ACTUALLY take a stand and others flocking to support, but sorry folks this is Australia. The Telco's and the Banks are bigger than our leaders and the leadership qualities they have. We will always be on the back-foot with them. There will be someone there to pacify you but no real resolution. The NBN will be a grand failure and all these existing Telecoms will be there to fill the gap, in the same way they are doing now.
The ACCC getting involved is a huge positive. There is a lot of public trust in the ACCC and I look forward to their findings. Hopefully they can also look into why Australians are paying one of the highest mobile rates in the world and not just for one of the worst coverage.

And good on you for starting this website and taking a stand.
21 Dec 2010 12:17:01 PM: Thanks, the ACCC definitely looks to be investigating. Hopefully they have something for us soon.

My company changed to Vodafone from Optus a couple of years ago. This decision was purely based on price. I can't get a 2G signal in Pyrmont (backwater I dont think so) and the phone always cuts out at the same point on the M4.... (that well known road in the middle of country NSW). I also get random call failures including three today.... WHAT A JOKE!
21 Dec 2010 01:10:34 PM: I can understand your frustration we have had a number of calls from customers we lost 2 years ago on the pricing issue wanting to return because of the significant investment that has been made into the Optus network over the last 2 years, giving customers increasing Network coverage with each passing day. No network is ever going to be perfect, but the commitment Optus has made to improving their infrastructure, with billions of dollars invested each year means that they are constantly working to improve what they have and that customers are getting the best experience possible. We are also now far more competitive on price then what we were 2 years ago. If you would like to test the network we do have demo services please call and speak to Nathaniel on 1300 22 88 35 and he can possibly organise one for you to try.
27 Dec 2010 07:28:18 AM: I had an iPhone with Optus. It didn't work in my house where I live, in Paddington, Brisbane. Most calls dropped out. Most calls had poor voice quality and fadeouts. After 6 weeks of involvement with tech support, the tech support person told me I was in a black spot that he couldn't officially acknowledge exists, but if I return the iphone I would be released from the contract.

I returned the iphone. But then Optus' billing department pursued me for $1000 cancellation fees. They sold the debt to a collection agency, which sold it to another, which reported me to a master Australian credit place, which downgraded me. Amex then automatically cancelled my cards and my frequent points.

What a lot of work. I'm still working to restore my credit rating. What an awful experience, Optus.

Mobile internet is appalling! Web pages require several reloads to finish loading properly; they take 30 seconds to load a medium-sized web page.

Calls drop out every 2-5 minutes, despite perfect reception, and both parties not moving during the call.

SMSes sometimes do not get sent, despite near-full bars of reception.

1241 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Incredibly crap at 20 Dec 2010 04:49:18 PM
It all started in January when I had to suspend my brothers contract for three months as he was going overseas. They failed to do so and continued to charge him for the months it was supossed to be suspended. $50 credit given for each month. Next, I set up my direct debit to pay my bills one I had paid that day. I asked the operator when the next debit would come out, she said the next month. 2 days later, I was debited money from my account which they were not supposed to do and waited 2 hours on the phone with them to fix the problem but only to be told that it would take 21 days for the money to be put back into my account. Credit given $100. But not given because they did not apply it to my bill and then overcharged me?? WTF?? Get it together.. Next, my brother, whose contract was under my name decides to go onto his own contract as he is old enough to changes it over at the vodafone store BUT it is not done correctly and then has to spend 5 hours total on the phone and at another vodafone store the next day to fix the issue. THEN! they fail on the next month to change his contarct into his name $50 credit given to both him and myself. The next months bill comes in... HIS CONTRACT IS STILL UNDER MY NAME!!! It takes them 4 months to change it correctly. With 2 months free service added to my pile of credits given. As well as two really shitty Blackberry Storms (which they knew were terrible phones but failed to tell their customers about even though I complained numerous times with no compensation of a new one), crappy service probably about a day of phone calls to India and drop outs, Vodafone have really pissed me off this year... and to top it off! they want to offer me another 24 months of crap! hmmmm... get it together vodafone.

I'm a small business owner, moved one of our numbers to Vodafone so we can get the HTC Desire HD. I'm afraid given my recent experience with Vodafone 3G and customer service I don't think I will move the rest of the business mobiles across to Vodafone. Tried calling Vodafone but like the other Telco's they don't employ human beings in Australia and try everything to avoid answering their phones and deal with customers. Unfortunately the other Telco's are no better so where do we go? I guess it's true, a recent comment by a senior executive for one Telco said "If Australia's biggest Telco doesn't offer customer service so why should we invest time, people and money in improving customer service" Unless Telstra lifts it's game and offer REAL customer service at REAL competitive rates the other Telco's will simply sit on their fat rear ends, take the money and run. Telcos in Australia don't give a s*#t about customers simply because there is no real competition.

1234 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is a huge disappointment. at 20 Dec 2010 03:00:35 PM
Have been with Vodafone for over 6 years and have always been quite satisfied with the service. But I did notice that over the last year and ESPECIALLY the last 2 months the service I am receiving is unacceptable. I first spoke to a CSR about 4 weeks ago (get them to call you back - its quicker altough this didnt happen the first time i chose that option!) and was told "technical issues" will be solved "soon". Over the last 2 weeks the problem has been unbearable. I live and work in Parramatta CBD in Sydney - one of the largest urban centres in Sydney - and I have had no 3g at all for days on ened, been getting messaged at 3 in the morning and vica-versa from messages that were sent hours/days ago and the last few days i have been left totally INCOMMUNICADO! No internet/messages or phone calls. I called them again and explained that I know what's going on and that i think its deplorable that they are denying any real explainations and continue to sign up new customers!!! The guy was actually o.k. The best I could get out of him was a $50 credit on my 2 phone account ($140pm) and a promise that all we be fixed by the first week of January. I said we will wait until then because we've been happy with Voda for many years but if not fixed by jan 10 i will be terminating the contract with no further charges to me. When he began to advise me there would be a termination charge (Got 11 months left) I cut him off and said that from a legal stand-point VODAFONE has ALREADY broken the contract by not providing a service that has been willingly paid for. Even if thhis problem does get fixed soon - I don't think we will ever begin another contract with Voda due to their inexcusable behaviour and arrogant attitude towards the customers who keep their bloody business afloat.

I have been working in Telco and IT for 15 years and have used Telstra, Optus and Vodafail! I absolutely believe they have a "weighted fair queuing" policy. The longer you are on that network the more chance you have of being kicked off. They do this because it's taboo in the telco sector to not allow customers to connect (GOS). Because they under engineer the buggery out of their networks, the people who get booted off phone calls are the ones that have been on longest! Apart from the fact they can't hand off calls between towers when you're driving around. Even if you do not move and have full coverage you always get bumped off. Absolute joke!

After more than 4 weeks of being constantly told by clients that I had not replied to their emails I finally checked in with Vodafone (I thought the issue was my Iphone settings or my internet server I use). Finally I worked out it was a Vodafone issue. I have irate clients and furious emails after seeming non replies to customer enquiries. My sent items box on the phone is full of emails that never got delivered, WHY?
I rang Vodafone and they said their SMTP is being rejected by other providers so the servers are dumping my emails. YOU COULD HAVE TOLD ME THAT VODAFONE YOU MORONS!!! I've lost business and customer relationships through this. I could have used my home computer or wireless on my Iphone to avoid this if Vodafone had just simply communicated.............What a debacle, it's cost me several thousand in lost work.

I went into my local vodafone shop today. To upgrade my existing plan to get a new iPhone 4 after asking the assistant if they had the 32gb in stock to which he advised yes we do. I told him I would like to upgrade my plan. He flat out refused stating due to a lack of stock upgrades have to be done over the phone. And will be waiting till the new year. I'm sorry but if the store has stock they can't be refusing to sell me a phone because they make less money off of it.
Has anyone else had this issue
21 Dec 2010 01:01:24 PM: it isnt an option in store to do an upgrade. this was as of last week. all upgrades for iphones and galaxy s' are to be done over the phone. they will give you a credit of $30 to your bill and a delivery date of sometime in jan. They will give you a more confirmed date over the phone. hope this helped
21 Dec 2010 01:06:31 PM: Yes, sounds familiar! I could have had the iphone4 there and then last Saturday if I'd paid around $850 for it. Had to go through the call centre (35 minutes on hold) then the sales line (another 20 mins on hold) and they still wouldn't place an order for me unless I moved from prepaid to a plan. It took another 25 mins to get that in place. So now I will have an iphone 4 by the end of January. I wish I'd found this website before I placed the order!
21 Dec 2010 02:21:42 PM: It's not like the stores don't want to do it, the system prevents them from doing it, just won't let them procede with an order. So before you start launching into an attack on the staff, remember they don't make the decisions like that.
22 Dec 2010 08:09:39 PM: Sounds like you should be complaining to Apple for deliberately restricting the supply of iphones to keep demand and prices high. To be clear - NO ONE from a company store would refuse to sell you an iphone "because they make less money off of it" than selling outright. Systems permitting they would much rather upgrade you than have you walk out empty-handed. Shortage of iPhone 4 is a WORLDWIDE issue, not just a Vodafone Australia one.
27 Dec 2010 10:20:54 AM: To the guy who placed the order for the iPhone 4 above. You can always cancel your order as you haven't yet received your phone. Just a thought.

Been with VF for nearly 10 years, prior to that Telstra. Have watched VF's network quality go from comparatively good to mediocre at best.

I have a Nokia E66 and live in far south-western Sydney where reception is pretty sparse: some days I have full 3G, other days half, and some days only 2G. Once or twice a whole day with no reception at all. If I drive 5 minutes down the road, I get nothing. Mates who live in the same area as I, who are on drOptus, have maginally better reception. I occasionally have delays in sending/receiving txts, but usually don't get drop-outs.

Reception on trains? Don't make me laugh.
3G in regional areas? What's a three gee?

Last straw for me was the 3 weeks of network issues in Sydney CBD where I work. What a joke. Compared to a loaned Telstra mobile (Samsung C5220) on NextG - it just works, and works nearly everywhere without drop-outs and with lightning fast interwebs!!

Vote with your feet people.

I'll be switching back to Telstra next year, even though it costs more. Rather have piece of mind knowing my mobile will work first time every time.

First of all, if you like Lara, you are not normal and you should seek professional counsel.
VF is trenching itself behind recorded messages which are most of the times unbelievingly useless, stubborn in denying simple one-word requests like 'operator' or 'sales' and definitively time wasting.
I'm now studying Hindi hoping to improve communication with the very kind, but at times unintelligible, call centres' operators.
VF culture is based on the principle of treating customers as members of the Mushrooms Club: kept in the dark and fed bullshit.
In all this, VF shows its total disregard towards its clients, who, usually locked in a 24 month contract, must either withstand the serious deficiencies of the service they are paying for or loosing money just to be free to choose a better and fair alternative.
VF could probably regain some credibility if it would, for once, admit its faults and apologise, drop a few sponsorships and use the money to improve its performance and, finally, sack the 'wise guys' responsible for this chaos.
That for sure would sooth the pain.

I am a Doctor at RPA in Camperdown and I have experienced at least 3 occasions where there has been absolutely no service for more than 4 hours at a time. Not only is it incredibly frustrating for someone who relies heavily on constant communication from work, but it is makes me look like I have my phone off on purpose. And, oh, I can not answer my pager either as my phone has no reception. I am talking perhaps 6 km from the centre of the biggest city in Australia and to have nothing is ridiculous. Three days ago I received a message sent to me 4 months ago! Admittedly, it doesn't happen often - but when it does it just makes me count the days until my contract is pver.
28 Dec 2010 02:10:20 AM: I live in Camperdown on Mallett St. I use Vodafone 3G for my laptop. It was good until late December and now it drops out at times, I may be wrong but before I just used to have 3G and HSUPA but now there is an EDGE network as well and since that appeared things are just randomly dropping out. I am onto my my first Iphone4 after 3 x 3GS Iphones played up over a 3 month period...I have contacted Vodafone from the very start and they told me it is Apple... Iphones are a crap phone, I should have got a blackberry!!! Great support of your suppliers Vodafone!
What prompted this flurry of phones is the following:
1. No service at times for up to 20minutes
2. Calls cutting out mid conversation - very annoying when you're trying to run a business)
3. Not receiving messages for days at a time.
4. Getting the Call failed signal for - sometimes at least an hour.
5. People calling me and not being able to leave a message or get hold of me because I was apparently on the phone.... when I actually wasn't!
6. Phone freezing
7. Won't send text messages - says it fails but have service apparently.
8. Major disruption on connection..... sounds like the transformers movie.

Thats about it at the moment but after many calls to vodafone (which the last one also involved legal action as my business is suffering) They have now assigned me to a technical investigations team (because according to them it shouldn't be happening where I live or work - 15 minutes for Sydney CBD... Really!!!
Thanks for the website, I wanted to do this but I don't have the tech experience! I feel your pain too!!!
Now who's for a class action??

To those trying to get out of their contracts - stay strong on what you want when you get a CSR, and whittle them down until they raise it enough times with their supervisor to give in.

They got me to try several 'things' like changing my phone, using someone elses SIM in my phone etc.etc. and then concluded it was my SIM that needed replacing.
Because they 'get old'.
I have another phone and SIM with exactly the same issue - oh that must be getting old too.
They keep giving me the run around.
8 weeks on, I still have the same problems and now they are starting the whole 'diagnostic' process again. "take your SIM out, give it a clean..." What the?

1205 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is bad in WA, worse in NSW at 20 Dec 2010 12:31:01 PM
My list of problems (which are probably the same as everyone else):
- calls not coming through at all.
- voicemail and texts arriving hours, sometimes days after they were sent.
- poor to non-existent internet access
- crappy customer service

It's bad in Perth and, oddly, even worse when I'm in Sydney.
My partner is with Telstra, and guaranteed, any time my phone is *not* working.. her phone is. Vodafail big time - counting down the months until the end of my contract!
22 Dec 2010 09:44:26 AM: I experienced the same thing with the Voda mobiles at work. We run about 80 and they've been doing this on and off for the past year. Lately it's become worse. I thought my bill was strange when everyone's voicemail bill increased by 50 percent.

1203 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Absolutely disgraceful at 20 Dec 2010 12:14:44 PM
Checking in here from Perth. I live less than 20km from the CBD in the metropolitan area and rarely get more than one bar reception and woeful 3G data connectivity. Am experiencing all the usual difficulties of dropped out calls and unsent text messages. Rang vodafone a while back and they blamed the phone (which is why im stuck under contract) have since bought 2 more phones outright and now have a iphone 3GS and all experience the poor excuse for coverage that they offer. Cant wait for July to get rid of these criminals!!

1202 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Hanging in there at 20 Dec 2010 12:14:25 PM
Until a few months ago I had a mobile broadband service and a mobile service with VF. The broadband service deteriorated to the point it was unusable and after many calls and emails to customer service I went the TIO route .. end result is that the mobile broadband service contract was ended. Given that the service in my area improved I decided to keep the service but be free of the contract; at least that way VF retain a customer and I retain a service for as long as I want!

1197 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is unhelpful at 20 Dec 2010 11:56:09 AM
Poor infrastructure, poor customer service, poor public relations. They should be banned from taking on any new customers and be forced to offer ALL existing customers a release from their contracts. Lets then see how long they stay in business. Their profits are measured only by the deceptive marketing strategies they have in place. It's the telco equivalent of a Ponzie scheme and should be investigated by the ACCC.

1196 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Obviously not getting the message. at 20 Dec 2010 11:52:20 AM
Dave from the Vodafone social media team, please give up now.
It's obvious that you are a junior who can't do anything to help.
Formulaic stuff - "we hear you"....aaaargh. Sounds like you've been to a half day "dealing with difficult customers" class.
We all know that you can buy time by pretending to empathize, pretend that you are listening and promise to act.
Dave and Vodafone, listen up. WE WILL NOT STAND FOR YOUR SUB-STANDARD RESPONSES.
How is Twitter going to help me?

Dave, a story for you;
I have already lodged a complaint with the TIO. it's taken 7 business days but one of your customer service reps called me back and left a message and a phone number. I was in a meeting and unable to take the call. After the meeting I called back on the nominated number and guess what Dave, I was put in a call queue for 15 minutes and then the line dropped out.

So Dave, and Vodaphone - this 'social media' strategy won't fool anyone. It's obvious that you still think we are idiots.

Everyone else, vote with your feet. Complain to the TIO that you aren't getting what u paid for.
Go to another provider. Tell everyone you know about how poorly Vodafone has acted. Do it over Xmas lunch.

I walked into a Telstra shop yesterday to discuss plans just in case I can break my contract.
It was like a breath of fresh air.

Meanwhile, the staff member at the Vodafone store next store freely admitted how frustrated many staff are by their own employer and how bad they feel selling contracts to customers when they know that the service doesn't work.

Vodafone, sort yourselves out and stop forcing your staff to lie.

1194 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Vodafone Epic Fail at 20 Dec 2010 11:47:07 AM
21 Dec 2010 09:40:28 PM: You're the only one. Sorry.
22 Dec 2010 09:14:04 PM: If you would like service from an Australian vodafone has great staff in the store whom u can ask to call customer care on your behalf. You can explain the issues you are having with the phone and the service. Troubleshooting will be done, credit will be placed on your account, and if teh issue cannot be resolved you can be released from your contract.
23 Dec 2010 10:15:23 PM: You can only be released out of your account after tens of hours on hold, numerous complaints and then complaining to the TIO. Vodafone doesn't let you leave that easily, it takes a lot of time and effort.
23 Dec 2010 11:54:41 PM: Sweetheart you must be really missing somthing in your life grow up its a phone service
24 Dec 2010 07:56:03 PM: hahha..Emma, pure brilliance! Best.Comment.Here. And to the last post - yes it is *only* a phone service that isn't working properly for a lot of people, so they come to this site, *only* for sharing the difficulties people have been having with said service. You must be missing something in your life also - empathy and a sense of humour.
27 Dec 2010 07:35:19 AM: Totally agree with the comment above. All the Vodafone employees who are commenting on here are totally devoid of any empathy or sense of humour. It's a huge part of their problem. The CEO apologies and they still try to blame every problem on the customer.
27 Dec 2010 11:36:48 AM: That's great Emma. And yes! That effing Lara! That is what made the phone calls so painful. She's deaf and patronising!
5 Jan 2011 11:33:45 PM: To the two VF customers below

@22 Dec 2010 11:14:04 PM: BULL!!!!!! I've been going around in circules with VF for bloody ages and now its with the TIO with no resolution so far. release me from a contract, I think I'll see birds fly upside down first!.

@24 Dec 2010 01:54:41 AM: Actually mate my phone is a connection to my cutomers, as a small business owner my phone and data services are FUNDAMENTAL without which I lose money. Hence why my phone is now thousand little pieces and I have another contract with Telstra who are providing a better saervice and customer support.
22 Jan 2011 10:44:06 AM: LOL pure gold Emma

1192 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Customer Service Failure at 20 Dec 2010 11:41:33 AM
If Vodafone is in so much trouble (mess) at the moment, why dont they open up an Australian customer service department with some serious support - instead of waiting up to an hour for someone in India to answer the phone. The line quality to Inia is also shocking and I found it really hard to understand the person on the other end.

1183 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is JUST THE WORST at 20 Dec 2010 10:44:02 AM
I have been with Vodafone for over 10 years and in all that time have not had any problems UNTIL NOW !!!
After telling the NON-service people that I was having problems and believed it was due to a faulty network they went through the usual procedures - turn off you phone, take out the sim etc etc etc - they would not believe me that their network was the problem. I then went around my building and got the numbers of 13 other people on Vodafone and rang back the NON-service dept and confronted them with what I had found "Oh yes sir, since your last call we have been notified of a network problem " - what a load of CRAP.

I am now prepared to sign up with TELSTRA (never thought I would say that) because I can not go through this Vodafone crap any longer.
