Dear visitor,
Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant
contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced
by Vodafone customers.
Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders.
You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.
Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.
More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly.
Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints.
The site will remain online for as long as possible as a
reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.
It has been a privilege to run this initiative
and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In
particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their
continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.
You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.
Until next time,
Adam Brimo

16384 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Call Waiting at 22 Mar 2011 05:51:23 PM
Yesterday after waiting 30 minutes to get through to customer care as soon as they answered trading hours were up so they just hung up mid conversation. When I tried calling back I got the answering machine. :( My wife and I both want new handsets & my contract has been finished for many months but my wife has 4 months left on her contract. I would like to negotiate to get her contract finished early so we can both be billed at the same time, but cant even get through to the right people. However, I do get annoying phone calls in the middle of the work day trying to sell me new contracts, and when I suggest my proposal, they put me on hold to a different department... NEVER TO TAKE ME OFF HOLD!
16383 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is worst telecom provider ever! at 22 Mar 2011 05:23:16 PM
Locked into my contract on an iphone with vodafone a year ago! as all iphone users know, data download is a very important necesity with almost all iphone apps and im sure its the same with other smart phones! when i first purchased my iphone through vodaphone my data download speed was amazing! facebook, safari, google maps and all other apps were fantastic and all loaded within a couple of seconds! then! sometime around november 2010 my data speeds sunk to incredible lows! facebook takes about 5 min to load status updates from other users! 5 MIN!!!!! its probably not even 100bytes of data and it takes incredibly long! something that used to take all of 2 seconds!!! Most of the time facebook and other relevant apps time out saying lost connection with server! obviously vodafone have cut there network range or hardware somewhere along the line to save costs! its been slow and getting worse ever since! it makes having an iphone completly usless!!! its time for vodafone to get there sh*t back together or let me outa my contract!! i pay 80 a month and get 1g of download! i recon if i kept my phone on constant download it wouldnt even be able to download a gig worth of data in a month its that slow! so how does this seem fair? iv tried ringing through to vodafone customer support but they just blow it off to an overload on the server at the time (too many people on vodafones servers at once) well how about u upgrade ur network and pay for the extra network coverage and demand so we as consumers who pay get what we are rightfuly paying for! i must admit some days vodafone service drives me over the edge! and it seems everyone of my family and friends with vodafone is copping the same treatment! everytime i see a vodafone add i cringe with anger! and often tell people do not make the same mistake i have and contract with vodafone! its unfair that someone should be locked into something that they are not fully recieving! add to this data problem the constant no service and friend calls that amazingling neva ring or eventuate, the txts not recieved and then the txts recieved all at once!! not to mention customer credit card details and information leaked! the only thing vodafone hasnt failed in and the only txt i always recieve is the txt saying my vodafone email bill has arrived please pay promtly! vodafone is byfar the worst telecomunications network on the planet... Literally!
16360 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Maximum Fail at 20 Mar 2011 08:34:08 PM
Desperately need to get in touch with my father over a business matter and yet again the vodafone (vodafail) network is down and my phone is set to 'Searching', despite being at home (carine) in my house on top of a hill which normally has full reception. Even at work in subiaco just 3km from the city centre, I am constantly experiencing difficulties with the network, I can NEVER use the internet through their alleged "3G" network because speeds are either not working at all OR so painfully slow that I could walk to an internet cafe and be done by the browser loads the homepage of my target site. Vodafail in every way and form of modern communications! Ridiculous!
16314 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Wrong Billing at 16 Mar 2011 12:30:58 PM
Vodafone has been billing me incorrectly over the last 4 months for calls to another mobile. When i reviewed my bill i can say a consolidated amount of $1000 wrongly billed to my account as my plan states that vodafone call is free.
2 weeks ago after 40 minutes wait for customer support the person told me that he the database department in NSW is close right now so he will send my request and they will get back to me by 5 working days.
12 working days now and not a single phone call. i have to basically waste more time and calls for them to try to fix this situation. this is horrendous.

3G Mobile internet--why does mine always revert to Edge? its slow, and for the $ per month I am better off getting one through the phone line from another ISP
and last time I rang I spoke with guy in the Netherlands (Call Centre) sooner I get away form this the better.

16297 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Epically at 14 Mar 2011 09:42:28 PM
No reception in country towns when every other service provider has it; no reception in large crowds at festivals when every other service provider has it, hell barely any reception in my own home in freaking Subiaco!
16290 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Deplorable at 14 Mar 2011 01:27:14 PM
I too have a problem with delayed SMS. It's ridiculous trying to hold a conversation when you have to wait for FOUR HOURS in between replies. I would think that vodafail has some sort of legal obligation to deliver messages within a reasonable time frame providing both handsets are online.
I did some research and have seen numerous attempts by vodafail to defend this problem. They say that message delay occurs when there is excessive load on the message centres. THIS IS BULLSHIT. 1. I'm sure there is not excessive load on the system at 0130 in the morning (I often message during my night shift) and 2. vodafail customers shouldn't be copping the burden of vodafails incompetent network management and underfunded SMSC infrastructure. Perhaps if they spent less money on that useless bloody 'Lara' voice recognition system, which, by the way never works, they might have a bit to spare on their network of God forbid living customer service reps.
AN EPIC VODAFAIL BY ANY STANDARD

Little or no bandwidth available in my home suburb or generally anywhere although it is marginally better in the City!
16250 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is stupidly! at 11 Mar 2011 01:17:10 AM
vodafone just had a "network congestion" again. I have a company that I am trying to establish, and I work after hours, on the phone with my partners alot during after hours. vodafone reliability is seriously starting to annoy me!
16240 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is SMS to Spain and Portugal? at 10 Mar 2011 12:06:17 PM
I've been the Wireless broadband user for 3 years now. After I complained about the speed which is 2-3 kbps in the evening, so dail-up is 10-20 times faster, they offered me $10/month for the service.
Now, looks like I've been charged for the SMS sent to Spain and Portugal while I was sleeping and Internet was shut down! For two months I needed to contact the Customer service about this charge and spent hours on the phone. They even said this might happen in the future.

16239 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Extremely at 10 Mar 2011 11:34:40 AM
We have been having constant problems with calls dropping out while talking and then when clients try to call back the message they get is that the number you are calling has been disconnected or the number is busy or the number is no longer available. Also not receiving txt messages until a day later if at all. I have contacted Vodafone only to be told by their technical division thet they can't detect any problems. We have asked to be let out of our contract without incurring any exit fees but they have refused to do so. We have now contacted the Telecommunications Ombudsman because we can longer run our business with this poor service

16224 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Total at 9 Mar 2011 03:37:06 PM
When I purchased the phone I asked the sales person if the coverage maps were corect and that coverage is available to Mahogany Creek/ Mundaring and was told it was. Coverage is non existant in many areas. Call drop outs is common place. Calling Voda Support is a waste of time - the customer service response is ponderous to say the least.
16218 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is EXTREME at 9 Mar 2011 12:34:24 PM
No coverage most of the time, takes between 5-10 mins to load a page.. drops in and out of service and not to mention the call centre is NOT helpful one bit! After around 10 years, you would think that they would try to help out their loyal customers. I am officially sick of vodafone, yet i am locked in for other year.. what do I do??????!
16196 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is TEARS JUST TEARS - SOUNDWAVE 2011 WA FAIL !! at 8 Mar 2011 12:56:20 PM
Mr Nigel Dews sends me an email asking me to check out his sorry statement.. I genuinely believed that Vodafone was on track to get it's issues sorted.. Then comes my time in Claremont WA at the Soundwave festival 7/3/2011.. In the 6 hours I spent there I was unable to send or recieve any calls.. I sent 1 successful text and recieved 1 text.. I made one successful check in on Foursquare.. You could claim that there we're to many people trying to access the network but that isn't my problem.. My friends with their Telstra and Optus plans had next to no issues all day.. Seriously folks "Infinity" ??. Infinitely offline..
16188 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Very high at 7 Mar 2011 08:29:30 PM
Perhaps vodafone should stop spending so much money on advertising: newspapers, magazines, radio, tv, sporting teams, arranging to drive a formula 1 car around Bathurst, etc, etc and just spend some money on, oh I don't know, giving their customers some reception! Just a thought
16187 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Extreme at 7 Mar 2011 08:25:36 PM
Vodafone is shit!! How shit you ask? Well, as I was trying to access the vodafail site, I had no less then 3 messages telling me that safari could not access the site, despite me clicking on the link from a google search. Also a bonus of having to try three times to watch a clip on you tube about vodafail. Apparently I couldn't connect to the Internet. Hmm, that seems to be happening quite a bit lately. Goodbye vodafone, or should I say vodafuck!?
16185 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Extreme at 7 Mar 2011 08:18:15 PM
I have an iPhone, but don't get to use it anywhere near as much as I'd like to. I wonder why? Oh, that's right, vodafone doesn't allow for you tube, google, emails, face book, the downloading of a still photograph taking less then 2 minutes, etc, etc. I'm probably being unreasonable, I mean just cos I pay for data downloads in my cap, doesn't mean that I have the right to use it. Ive been a vodafone customer for over 7 years, but can't take it anymore, I'm porting my number tomorrow. Goodbye vodaf**k, hello optus!!
16180 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is dreadfull reception at 7 Mar 2011 06:02:20 PM

16166 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Ridiculous at 6 Mar 2011 09:27:25 PM
According to Vodafones website, we have perfect reception. Truth is, we have zero reception 90% of the time and the other 10% goes from 2-3 bars then back to zero when you pick up the handset. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! Vodafone is seriously letting us down! And we are quite willing to change provider.
16150 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is EPIC FAIL at 5 Mar 2011 01:33:04 PM
Constant call drop outs, zero reception in my house which is in a supposedly high reception area. Crap customer service. the customer care line should be called the lack of care line. My handset has a billion features but if you try to use any of them it completely cracks the shits.. I WANT OUT!
16136 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Very! at 4 Mar 2011 02:05:09 PM
It's all about reception and data download issues for me. Really, I am lucky to get 1 bar in my house now (it was not always like this) and using the net via my handset is an absolute nightmare! If the net actually connects (as I always have a time out or connection error) it takes what seems like a life time to access the smallest of sites like Facebook etc.
16127 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Lack of service at 3 Mar 2011 09:54:37 PM

16120 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Over it! at 3 Mar 2011 04:47:06 PM
After recently returning to Australia after living in London I decided to go on a Vodafone contract as I use to be with them years ago as a pre-paid customer. Within days of receiving my new handset I was unable o access any internet sites. I called Vodafone and after many hours on the phone they told me that I must of gone and deleted my internet settings. They advised me they would then re-send me the settings in the form of a text message... this never happened. Next day I waited 2hrs for them on hold and when I got through the lady advised me that there was no record of my call. She advised she would re-send the settings to me. 15hrs later the message appeared on my phone. Now the problem is since then my connection has never been the same... I can only connect sometimes and if do it is the slowest, most painful thing in the world. I wrote Vodafone an email and surprisingly within 2 days I had a reply saying that they would not be charging me this month or for the next 3 months. And if my service is not sorted by then I will just write them another letter and get another 3 months free. I am not paying for a service I am not receiving!
16115 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Epically at 3 Mar 2011 12:55:13 PM
My mobile broadband worked decently for the first month. Now it's slow as hell, can't even load the front page of Facebook properly! Is it due to server issues, or anything? I sit next to a glass window so there should be no signal issues. It tells me "Connected: Very Good" most of the time. And yet my ineternet access is pathetic. I'm on a school comp now because I couldn't get past the front page of this site on it. Gah, Vodafone..
16113 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is at 1 Jan 1970 09:00:00 AM
I seem to never have an reception and if I do it is only 1 or 2 bars with calls dropping out. I rarely have 3G. I get text messages up to a hour after the person sent it and it can sometimes take days for people to receive any MMS I send.
16094 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Epic! at 2 Mar 2011 03:47:18 PM
Was a custoner of Vodafone since October 2007.
August 2009 received advice that my contract was due to expire and was offered a new contract and a new handset. I had been happy with the service I had received from Vodfone so (ominously) agreed to renew my contract. I advised I was moving to Perth from Adelaide and advised my new address details so that they could deliver my new handset.
September 2009 discovered that reception at my new home in Perth was virtually non-existant and that I had to travel 5kms to get decent coverage. Contacted Vodafone to advise them of this and to follow-up the wherabouts of my new handset that I had not received. I was advised that Vodafone would complete tests to measure reception near my home and that it would take 2 weeks. I was also advised that I should have received my handset by now as it was delivered to my address in Adelaide. I told them I had advised them I was moving and had given my new address details but these changes had not been made on my account. Vodafone advised they would resend my handset to my Perth address.
Given the poor reception I had at home I signed up to a Telstra contract and redirected my Vodafone number to the Telstra number so that I could receive calls - I was looking for work at the time and had provided potential employers with my Vodafone number some weeks before.
In November I received an account addressed to my Adelaide address via mail redirection. I AGAIN contacted Vodafone to update my address details and to enquire about the tests regarding poor reception. I was advised they would contact me in this regard as soon as they could. I then, rather stupidly it would seem, paid the account in full.
In February 2010 I received another bill addressed to my Adelaide address. I had not received any further contact from Vodafone regarding the poor reception or the handset and had not received any calls from Vodafone despite the diversion to my Telstra number still being active. I (erroneously it seems) assumed that the contract was null and void as i had not received any service of any reasonable level since the renewal of the contract in August 2009.
I had not contact from Vodafone for 10 months until...
December 2010 my sister has a chance encounter with the new tenants living at my old address in Adelaide who provide her with 2 letters - 1 is an account from Vodafone. The other is advice that they have passed the matter on to a Debt Collection Agency. Fed up of the poor service I had received using the Customer Service Line I decided to email Vodafone. This also allowed me to keep a written record of my contact with them. I sent the email on 24/12/2010. I received no response.
On 25/2/2011 I sent another email to Vodafone seeking a response to my email of 24/12/2010.
On 1/3/2011 I received an account from Vodafone for $638 being the outstanding amount for "service" and a cancellation of contract fee chharged to my account in December 2010. Absolutely fed up I called the Customer Service Line and speak to a CSO. He was perfectly polite and listened very patiently as I relayed the whole story to him. He advised I needed to call the PDR department on 2/3/2011 so that they could resolve the issue. I asked if he could update my address details to show my Perth address (the 4th time I had asked Vodafone staff to do so) and he told me he couldn't do that!!
Today I call Vodafone again. The first time I got through the call was disconnected mid-sentence. The second time i got through I spent 1 hour speaking to 4 different people before I finally got to speak to a manager. He advised me that, as I had "failed to advise my new address details" I was liable for the full amount. I told him I had advised my details on numerous occasions but that they continued to send accounts to Adelaide instead of Perth. He then told me that it was my fault for assuming that I didn't have a contract with Vodafone anymore. My argument is, if I never received a handset, was not receiving accounts and had no reception, why wouldn't I assume my contract had been cancelled! He went on to tell me that Vodafone's records are accurate and that he can see no record of me contacting Vodafone to advise them of the issues I was experiencing. I asked if he had any record of the contactmade my Vodafone to me in August 2009 when my contract was renewed...he said he DIDN'T!!! I asked if there was any record to show that I had never received the handset. He advised he would have to look in to that and asked if he could call me back in 5 minutes. I waited 2 hours for him to call me back and when he did he told me he would have to call back again on 3/3 as he had meetings to attend.
I have since lodged a complaint with the TIO.
Unbelievable!!!

Even though it says we are in full coverage here in Ellenbrook in Perths north the coverage here is poor. Can not make or receive calls. Reception jumps up and down from nothing to half then back to nothing.
Just outside the suburb we can get great reception. Vodafone have said they have upgraded the phone towers but if they have it didn't work. I suspect its lying.

15692 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Pretty bad! at 17 Feb 2011 02:10:48 PM
I have family and friends frequently calling me on my home phone because my mobile has been consitently "engaged" or going straight to voicemail, even though I had not been on the phone. So annoying! They don't seem to mind taking my money each month even though their service is completely substandard.
Who has actually broken their Vodafone contract under the "null and void /unfulfilled contract" scenario discussed by the ACCC?. I would like to give it a go and would like to know how others have fared...

17 Feb 2011 03:22:58 PM: Hmmmmmm......could be a dodgy strategy......best bet is to check out the How To Complain tab at the top of the page..........eventually you will probably end up at the TIO, many people have had very good results and satisfaction using that route.

Where to start?? Firstly they cannot spell my name right - apparently "Elizabeth" was too out of the ordinary. They cannot get my phone number right - I sent it off because it needed to be replaced. 2 months and after numerous calls to Vodafone and the insurance company - They finally realised it wasnt MY fault and that they had written down my number wrong. And the worst FAIL of all - they cannot get my credit card number right, so each month when I get debited, the next month I also get an overdue notice. Ive contacted them so many times I cant remember, wasted numerous hours of my life on hold, as well as many trips in store. Each time I was told that they have updated my details on the system, yet the problem still occurs, even though I always have money in my account. I have given up, and simply pay it as a normal bill. So my credit rating is probably screwed thanks to them and their incompetence. And yes my network coverage is non existent.
15621 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Maximum Fail at 15 Feb 2011 10:39:23 PM
I use my phone for both work and personal reasons. And over the last 2 months- December and January Vodafone has by far provided the worst customer service that I have ever had to put up with. I dont pay the amount on my bill for a phone that is without service in most areas around Perth. I called Vodafone in regards to this poor service and was not impressed with the way that they responded and now they have gone and barred my phone because I refused to pay for a service that I did not get.
15620 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Complete fail! at 15 Feb 2011 09:38:53 PM
The worst reception I have ever encountered. There are areas close to the city that are complete NO SERVICE and you have to keep resetting your phone and walking around and finally some reception, so you write a text and oh no, the reception is gone before you get a change to send it. I'm tired of missing out on work simply because I was uncontactable or not able to respond. I want OUT of my contract asap.
Oh and I'm also tired of ringing them...you are 4th in the queue, you are 3rd in the queue, you are 2nd in the queue...I'm sorry, the service you have called is currently closed, please call again tomorrow between 8am and 8pm" well the service was open when I tried ringing 2 hours ago!

vodafone reception has gradually gotten worse.
Firstly I have poor reception at home but top reception of telstra!
Secondly I'm constantly reseting the phone to find reception.
Thirdly I fly alot and when I get off the plane in perth and turn on the phone, I'll loose reception three to four times while travelling o teh great eastern highway to fremantle.

I bought new mobile couple of months ago and I have been trying to register for MY VODAFONE since 02/12 but no success. I tried to contact customer service but the wait was too long and again no success. I have tried again today (14/02) and I have been told the MY VODAFONE website hasn't been working for a while and they are trying to fix it. It has been two months and they still can't fix the problem.
So I have requested since I won't be able to check my balance would they be willing to put call barring once I've reached my cap limit or warning message.I've been told they don't have the system setup for it and they asked me to sms 1512 to check my balance. According to them 1512 updates the info every 24 to 48 hrs. Fortunately I kept all my messages and I sent one on 27/01 and another one on 08/02, both of them have the exact same info,it didn't give me update information as they said. They are going to look into it and get back to me.
Also, while I was on the phone with VODAFONE, the line drop few times and I spent almost an hour just to get few info.

From December 2010 when I churned from Telstra (to Crazy Johns) I have had the following issues:
1) Little or no service in all areas of Perth
2) Cant make or receive calls in my house even though it shows full 3G coverage
3) SMS delayed by hours/days/weeks
4) "Network busy" or "Connection Error" messages on nearly every call I make
5) Calls lasting about 30 seconds then dropping out (in full 3g service)
6) Middle of the CBD showing 2 bars, non 3G
7) People call me but it goes straight to Voice Mail. VM SMS is delayed by hours/days/week
8) Customer service is crap. All I get it "turn the phone off" "turn it back on" or "please be wiping the sim card".
9) On hold to technical support for over 90 minutes (had to hang up eventually)
10) Can not understand the customer service person (speak english please...)
11) Days go past where I can not make calls (phone shows full service and full battery).
11) My wifes Vodafone phone has excatly the same problems so it is not my phone.
If you havent moved to Vodafone/Crazy John's and are thinking about it...

In wa the 3G network has gone down hill badly. From no reception to dropped calls. This is only on the 3G network. I have forced my phone into 2g mode otherwise I would keep missing about 50percent of my calls. Of which my voicemail may alert me to this 48 hours afterwards. I'm even paying $10 per month for data that is useless.

These are the emails I sent to Vodafone at the end of January trying to explain my frustrations with having no service... me not having service on my phone ended up being a danger for my life!!
"I am writing to inform you of my frustration with having limited or no service on my phone for the past few weeks or more.
I can not make a call, when I can it drops off part way through the conversation and I can't call back because the service doesn't return.
I can't send a text as is aways goes to my outbox telling me it'll try again later. It never ends up sending because it never get service long enough to do so.
I still live at the same place, I still work at the same job, so the location has not changed but for some reason, my phone is not getting signal and I am feed up.
I have tried turning my phone off, taking out battery, looking at the network in my phone. NOTHING seems to work!
I went to a Vodafone store yesterday and the lady gave me a new sim card. I changed the sim card when I got back to work, only to discover that I still had no signal. I went there again today and they said there is nothing they can do as they think it's that network itself!!
What I'm I suppose to do with a phone I can not use when I need to use it due it not having service!!!??? It is SO frustrating!!
I don't see why I should be paying for a service I am NOT getting!
Please contact me with help to resolve this urgently."
My reply back to Vodafone after they offered 1 month free access:
Thank you for your reply and thank you for offering 1 month free access but I can't explain how frustrating it is to not have service on my phone. Over the weekend I had none apart from tiny windows of service returning to my phone only that when I quickly tried to use my phone to call or text that it would drop out again.
How long am I *not* going to be able to use my phone for?
I live by myself and it's nice to know I can use my mobile (as I don't have a land line) at any time to call someone if I need too. Not having my phone working freaks me out *a lot!!*"
After sending that last email in January, I had someone break into my house while I was sleeping - at home alone!! Buy time I woke up a realised someone had been through the house I discovered my phone had NO SERVICE to call for help!!!!!
I sat up freaking out thinking they could still be in the house or come back until I finally got service on my phone to finally call the police!!! Anything could have happened to me!
Thank god they left me alone but not having a phone I can use in an emergency is a very scary thing and I can not sleep easy at night!!!
This needs to be sorted ASAP! The only thing that was keeping me with Vodafone was that I didn't want a new number and their prices are good but I have found out since I can keep my number a move to a new provider. Think I might have to do that from a safety point of view.

I got fed up with no signal in the centre of Perth CBD which has been ongoing for me for the last six months. I took my complaint to Vodafail and they told me to change SIM, didnt work. Change handset, didnt work, report anytime that I didnt get a signal and where, did that for three weeks. Only to be told, yes we do seem to have a problem dont we!
I then started losing my patience and trying to get out of my contract. I was told on Monday that they have recognised a problem in Perth and they are planning to fix this by June (didnt specify which June btw). I then decided to take the initative. I ported my number to Telstra after complaining to the TIO (ombudsman). Informed Voda... only to be told that I hadnt spokent to the contracts team (which I have, a Sunil and also a Lionel). They then informed me (BTW it was Lionel) that I would have to pay 300 dollars to cancel. I informed that I had a complaint with TIO and that while this was in play the account was in dispute and that they cannot charge me until any resolution. At this point they then said OK we will half the amount to 150 bucks. I said nope as I was aware of other customers who broke there contract for free.
Sorry this is a long post and I will see what happens now but I am going to refuse to pay

I renewed my contact with Vodafone at christmas as never had issues with them before. Was deciding what handset to get and told Nokia N8 good. Found out it was useless within 2 days and hate it. It never let me use theninternet, at home or out and about, Apps rubbish and expensive, can't send MMs or emails and so on... Asked to change to a different type of phone (thought iphone but now not too sure. One customer sales advisor told me "tough, you chose it, you are locked in for 2 years" one told me I can change it and I have a 28 day cooling off period and can cancel my contract, and I was told by someone else they couldn't fix my handset and I could get a new one and to go to Vodafone store and just tell them it's all in my notes. The store said they had no iphones and couldn't be bothered helping me.
I wrote to vodafone and my email was sent to complaints dept nearly 2 weeks ago, and nothing.
All I wanted was a different hand set and I would have been happy, but now I want to leave the company, after over 10 years, and my husband will leave in a few months too.... Great work Vodafone. Solve easy problems fast and you might have a business in a few years.
No as bad as people missing out on business calls, but still so so frustrating.

I was trying to get my broadband internet reconnected after vodafone didnt debit my account for four months (thanks for the call/email.. anything!). I rang and got LARA the biggest waste of time. What happened to press 0 and we will transfer you to a customer service officer? Once I finally got the right word that Lara understood it kept asking for a mobile number.. it's mobile internet why the hell would I know the number? So if I hit random numbers it eventually hands up on me. Eventually I got through to some indian and was transferred twice before that person hung up on me. Then I tried again and the fourt person finally knew what the problem was.
10 Feb 2011 09:57:35 PM: When ever you get through to Lara, just say "customer services" and that should take you straight to a person. (Who no doubt will tell you they will put you through to someone else) Lately there is an option to use your keypad and not speak to Lara....

After having prepaid mobile for 6 years, finally went onto contract in September 10. The Samsung phone could not get reception at my workplace. It took 3 months and many many hours (28 all up over several weeks) waiting on the phone to convince vodafone to exchange handset for a Nokia. I now get reception at work. If and when the phone works. 70% of the time, at home and work, calls go straight to message bank. Then I cant even make phone calls on it to retrieve messages. Cant get calls and cant make them. For this I am paying a monthly fee. I cant afford to spend another 28 hours of work time over more weeks trying to get the issue resolved.

3:30pm-4pm NO SERVICE AT ALL!! Rang up support and they are of no help as they insist service is working. I am on the business plan too! How can anyone running a business with a mobile network that has no reception in South Perth??
8 Feb 2011 09:45:17 PM: No reception in Perth CBD area at various times thruout the last 2-3 days, suspect possible tower upgrade.
As a workaround change your phones to 2G and it should come back.

Signed up to 2yr contract about 4 months ago. Had serious network fail issues since - couldn't make or receive a single call on Christmas Day, New Years or Australia day....nice! COntacted Vodafone by e-mail, they actually called back a couple of days later, gave me one month contract fee credit and said issues were fixed. They weren't! If anything, dropouts etc are getting more frequent. I looked at the upgrade section VF website, no upgrades due in my area in Q1 2011 so unlikely to improve. Sent them another e-mail two weeks ago saying issues not fixed. No reply yet. Sent them another e-mail today but will be lodging issue with TIO and looking to cancel contract and go with another provider.

I have managed to get out of my contract 7 months into it, due to bad coverage and upgrades in my area which was never disclosed to me when I signed my contract.
A big thanks to the TIO, they have been a great help and have also helped me with Vodafone resolutions, I was able to port out of my contract with no costs... Yet.. I say Yet!!
only issue at the moment is that my Iphone 3/16g is locked with Vodafone and in one of my conditions with my complaint I asked that I keep my handset and that it be unlocked, Vodafail did agree, but I am having major issues with the handset at this stage and I am unable to put another carriers sim card in to it.
I will try my last resort which is restoring it back to its factory settings via I-tunes, this is supposed to unlock your handet??? how im not sure.
If anyone else is having the same issue as me would be great if you could advise me where to go from here.
Cheers

Poor reception...even in my own house! No reception interstate. (Melbourne) delayed sms by up to 3 days. (xmas time) Signed up for a $69 cap and am charged twice that each month. Barely use ph, as it works out at approx 1.13 per minute. Not at all what I expected. Way too frustrating. Have changed companies now.

Poor coverage at my house. Having to have private and business phone calls on my front lawn.
Being given access to the internet, but being in the CBD of Perth and having poor or no reception "no active cellular network" comes up regularly.
Calls cutting out from someone 30 metres away while working and using vodafail to vodafail to communicate, or in this case not communicate.

15170 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Crap coverage Crap Service at 3 Feb 2011 02:10:15 PM
After my first experience with poor coverage by the Vodafone claimed network, I tested the coverage further by travelling through Morley, Beechboro and Ballajura attempting to make phone calls at various locations. In 10 out of 12 attempts the phone did not have any reception! When it did have reception it was near major shopping centres........obviously they have a tower at these locations or the signal bounces off the large glass windows at these shopping centres (Ha ha). Once I completed this test I sent an email to Vodafone advising of the poor coverage and my intent to retunr the phone and have the contract terminated. In response they sent me a generic email providing information about the 2G Network and their areas of cliamed network coverage, they didn't go anywhere near responding to my request regarding the contract. VODACRAP!!
4 Feb 2011 02:15:43 AM: Yeah I have given up. Your story mirrors mine! I finally received a reply to my emailed complaint and their generic response to all this was - get ready : please forward your query or complaint (there's the proof of generic - definitely not a query!) to network.feedback@vodafone.com.au. Now call me old fashioned - But shouldn't the vodafone staff pass this on for me internally? Is that not how help desks are run?All they had to do was click forward to. Insane
15161 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is EPIC FAIL but finally over! at 3 Feb 2011 10:16:16 AM
I finally had success with breaking both mine and my partners contracts after 3 months of complaining around 3 times a week. They ended up running a coverage test in my area and it appears we are in a low service area (clearly) and we were able to get our plans cancelled, with no charge provided the phones are returned. I think I had called around 40 times and my partner maybe 10 times, sent around 20 emails and was on hold for hours and hours but with some persistence I managed to sort it out. I find the cancellation team were totally useless and the tech support were much more helpful. Even once I managaed to get my contract cancelled they did not want to cancel my partners since the coverage test was done on my account however we live at the same address! After 4 calls in the past 12 hours I got it sorted, FINALLY!. The main thing is, don't give up! Just keep calling and calling. Postcocde is 6167 which is a low service area as advised from Vodafone. Offered me 6 months half price contract to stay also.... I declined! Telstra here we come =) Goodluck!
3 Feb 2011 11:15:33 AM: This is great news for you - really glad you finally got it sorted. Your comment "The main thing is, don't give up!" is uplifting and encouraging, but really... it's 2011! Even the banks have (mostly) re-learned the art of customer service and the importance of keeping customers happy. Why should we need to keep trying and trying to get a fair deal? Should it really be this hard??
4 Feb 2011 08:40:30 AM: No it shouldn't and really their customer service was a whole other lot of complaints I had. However, they make it difficult to avoid people trying. They don't want to lose more customers so they make the process so long winded and frustrating so people give up. I doubt their will be much improvement on the customer service side of things any time soon so I would rather be persistant now so I can get out as soon as I can. There is no secret Vodafone lacks customer service skills but the amount of problems they have at the moment suggests actually getting their service to work at all is the priority =) Once (if?) they have that sorted they may move to tackling their customer service issues. This is why I suggest not giving up because your just going to be stuck with them.

I have been with Vodafone for years and used to tell everyone how good they were. But I have noticed lately bills are wrong, and the coverage is shocking. I have other family members on Vodafone and we are all experiencing the same problems. Connection errors, no coverage. I live in the same place, visit the same places yet now I get no coverage. I don't know whether it is because of the merger with 3 (they have always been bad) but its a big coincidence if its not......my contract is up for renewal in 2mths and I highly doubt I will renew with Vodafone unless they make some serious changes.
6 Feb 2011 04:50:04 PM: 3 is not bad. In fact before the merger they were awesome. No long waiting on customer support, usually 4 or 5 bars of signal strength... after the merger 1 or 2 bars if I am lucky. I also never had to deal with a stupid lara robot voice before (that's a Vodafone system not 3) so I think it's the other way round. Also my calls to support were usually answered in about 5 - 10 minutes tops, now its about that in hours length!!!
15144 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is so very fail at 2 Feb 2011 11:26:37 PM
They overcharged me $200 on my bill, I spent 1 hour on hold, before I finally got to talk to someone. After another 30 minutes on and off of hold it was sorted, but I worry about what would've happened if I hadn't called.
Also my partner, my best friend and I, all with vodafone, have had reception drop out on us constantly. I live in Fremantle, a largely populated area, yet they still cannot manage reception issues. I was warned not to re-new my contract with vodafone because of their horrible reception. I am coming close to breaking point, hours spent on hold simply organising to re-new my contract, constant reception drop outs and the slowest 3g internet ever experienced. Please Vodafone, fix this so I don't have to wait on hold for talking to Lara for another 60 minutes before getting disconnected.

I'm just curious how to proceed and wanted some advice.
I've tried to contact VF twice re drop outs and no service (with documented evidence). I have asked to be freed from my contract without penalty (only 4 months to go) and keep my phone. Didn't get a reply within the 5 days so rang them. On hold for 40+ minutes trying to follow up only to be told that he couldn't access my complaints and would get someone to ring me back within 24-48 hours.
I didn't get a call and ended up ringing Telstra and organising to port my number. While waiting for the new phone to arrive I logged a complaint with the TIO.
Telstra phone arrived today but I'm not sure whether to activate the port yet or whether to wait out the TIO investigation first. I don't want to get stung on a technicality for jumping the gun before I got "permission"...
Telstra says I have 10 working days to activate. Should I wait?
Thanks in advance.

4 Feb 2011 01:33:27 PM: Apologies for the late reply.
Vodafone have 10 business days to respond to the TIO, I note that they (Vodafone) appear to be leaving it to the late working day just recently.
Is it worth asking Telstra for an extension? I feel confident that as they want your business they will comply.
I know what you mean about jumping the gun to get permission, but it is the only advise I can offer.
Has anyone else got anything to offer?
Let us know what you decide and how you get on!

Still waiting to hear from VF. I rang Telstra and they said not to panic as they can't port my number until I give them my VF account number. So she said to let it play out and ring them back as soon as I hear and they'll sort it out from there.

I've been a vodaphone customer for four months and have had nothing but problems with my service.
At first it was mostly drop out's or stuttery conversation when I was on a call. Then it was not being able to access the internet to use my gps which was annoying to say the least. I also found I was unable to send picture messages with any consistency, but I soldered on figuring it was just a glitch and would be fixed.
Then I started to get the prerecorded message ...To access your voice mail press Blah blah whenever I used my phone to ring someone and they failed to pick up, even when that person was standing right next to me and their phone was on.
When my partner complained that I wasn't answering my phone, even though it was right next to me (it never even registered the call) I decided I'd had enough so I rang and complained.
They had me do a manual reset which I thought had fixed the voicemail recording problem ( I don't even have voicemail) and told me they would investigate my coverage complaints and I left it at that.
Then last night (a week after my complaint)things got even worse.
I have been unable to ring my teenage children s phone as it tells me I have no network service or just goes straight to the message (if it does ring) that to access voicemail press blah blah or it doesn't ring at all and tells me the person I'm calling can't be reached, again even when the person I'm calling it standing right next to me.
So I rang them, only to be told that they had not loaded a ticket (their term) at my last complaint and that they would do it now but it would take five days to check. They then, after getting me to reload my network and it saying I had no service, checked and claimed that I was not in one of the sparse coverage areas that have been having "difficulties" and that their service would soon improve. I was not impressed and asked that they cancel my contract as I and my daughter have health issues and I need my mobile to be working.
So they tried to get me to pay out the contract of over a thousand dollars, I was furious and told them so, they then agreed to let me out of the contract but demanded my handset back and since I've paid four months worth of their cap for a service that has been erratic at it's best I declined.
Next offer was that I could keep the hand set but at a price I found more than unreasonable considering the trouble they have put me through. not far off what they tried to get me for with the contract.
I have decided to take this further and I'm urging anyone else out there that is having these problems to do the same.
Ps the other thing that really bugs me is, if it's a capped service that they are advertising at a set price, why the hell have I been getting an additional six dollars charged in gst on top of it?
Makes you wish you had shares hey!

2 years contract for $79 per month. Was ok at the time as it was pretty reasonable. I have had dropped calls, slow internet (compared to optus), and rubbish coverage at the best of times. If your service is so crappp, please charge accordingly......stop trying to be up their with the best without proper foundations. Charging Hilton rates and providing Soweto service!

15129 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Had me listed as bad credit for over 18 months at 2 Feb 2011 05:24:33 PM
I racked up a bill of nearly $4000 by using my phone to surf the net over 6 months. I was paying the bill off at $150 a week when they barred my phone, so I went prepaid and continued to pay the debt off. The last payment was made on the 21/04/2009 and Vodf@#kwits confirmed that the debt had been paid. I then had to fight them for 2 months to get a refund on an overpayment that I had made and only got it when I threatened to send them a bell for my wasted time of $1500 as while was talking to them, my truck was off the road. I got the refund in June.
Yesterday I applied for a car loan and was told that I was not able to get it as I still had an unpaid bill with Vodaf@#kwits on my credit report. I then called them up and asked what was going on and they said I still owed them $27.41. And that was after 30 minutes of getting the run around from them. I told the indian twat that it had been paid in full over 18 months ago and he kept telling me I owed them money. It was only after I told him I had written confirmation that I had paid it out that he dropped the extra charges. He then hung up on me. This morning I called the debt collector and they confirmed that the debt had been paid out. They couldn't have been more helpful. Vodaf@#kwits on the other hand, after 45 minutes and being hung up on twice, accepted that they were in the wrong and agreed to send out a letter of confirmation as well as an email copy. I will see if they honor their commitment to change the default on my credit report, but if they don't, the TIO will be called.

I live and work in the Perth CBD. In my office I very seldom get any 3G coverage and when I do it is almost unbearably slow. I frequently get dropped calls or 'call attempt failed' when I try to call people.
I think this level of coverage in a CBD is totally unacceptable considering the money I pay each month.
Vodafone's customer service is almost nigh-on impossible to reach. I havent got 45 minutes to throw away on hold waiting to speak to a customer 'service' representative.

I purchased a phone on the 29 plan for my 13 year old daughter so that I can contact her after school when she's travelling home. The whole purpose of the phone is to ensure my daughter's security between home and school.
Yesterday was the first day of school and the first time my daughter has caught the bus on her own. The arrangement was for my mother to pick her up from the last bus stop in Beechboro WA (an inner city suburb!). About half an hour after the expected arrival time I received a phone call from my mum who was extremely worried about the fact that my duaghter had not contacted her. I tried to call my daughter 11 times and did not get through, instead I was diverted to her voice mail. When she finally did answer the phone (in tears) she said that she couldn't call anyone or receive any calls because she didn't have a signal...............on a main road in suburban Perth! Vodafone is crap!

First off ensure the safety of your daughter, get another sim card from a different provider..........one that works.
Next contact Vodafone on 1555 to explain the issue (take a packed lunch and plenty of water).
If you have tried to contact Customer Care without success or not to your satisfaction the next step is to contact the TIO.
The details may be found on the tab How To Complain located at the top of the page.
Good luck and let us know how you get on!!!

2 Feb 2011 10:59:35 PM: See my comment below - "Not enought F's" - I live cnr beechboro rd and morley drive - same thing. Also the same at friend's house in Caversham. If you have the option to turn off 3g then do so and at least you can make and receive calls. Internet will work - albeit at dial up speed. I'm still without 3G... GRRRRR. I went to vodafone galleria and they informed me that all coverage is fine - until I showed them my phone in 2g mode and 3g mode. Call centre is useless - and always will be - until they set up one locally to deal with local issues.

15100 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Plain Stupid! at 2 Feb 2011 09:56:18 AM
I work in the Perth mall. Our building isn't that huge, but when I'm at work my phone barely rings and SMS doesn't come through until I leave the building.
Best of all, I might get a voicemail on the weekend, ring up voicemail and I might have 3 or 4 left during the week that I wasn't even notified about!
Also 3GS coverage in the malls & St Georges terrace, can sometimes be none! I'd like to know why Perth CBD is in the 6% of Population not covered by Vodafone network???

Have you seen the Your Coverage tab at the top of the page, it allows you to enter you postcode and check out the coverage according to you, the users.
If you have tried to contact 1555 without success then check out the How To Complain tab at the top of the page, it suggests the next actions you can take.
Good luck and let us know how you get on!

The past 3 months have been getting worse and worse - Until today where I have had no reception at all - unless I turn off 3G and revert to GSM. I am now getting 5-10 calls per week going straight to voicemail without my phone ringing or registering a missed call. Call quality is terrible and I'm finally in the "call dropout" team. Don't bother emailing them a complaint - You won't get a response. I called customer service but they told me the sony vivaz isn't compatible - Well, um... yes it is until now! They then suggested I turn my phone off and on - what experts!! I live in Morley - not exactly outback australia! Searching for a new provider tomorrow. What is the opposite of provider - HA - Vodafone!
2 Feb 2011 10:53:08 PM: Still no 3g - 24 hours and counting....
15087 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Superfail at 1 Feb 2011 11:28:26 PM
Data has gone to completely useless over last month. Went to store and was told they are having tower problems and to switch to 2G for better performance. When I asked how to cancel was referred to 1555
Now tonight all cell service is gone. Live in wembley WA. No bars. Nada.

Been with them for nearly 10 years. Started noticing frequent network coverage dropouts about 6 months ago. Just put up with it. Started taking screenshots in December 2010 whenever I lost service. Now have >60 images documenting lost service since 20 December. That's almost twice per day! Sent two email complaints 18th 20th January. No response. Rang on 27th. On hold for 40 minutes. Was told someone would get back to me within 24-48 hours. Still waiting. Raised complaint to TIO 31st January. Porting to another provider on 2nd Feb irrespective of response as am completely fed up.
1 Feb 2011 04:43:42 PM: dont jump the gun, it only tokk me about 10 days to be let out of 2 contracts. otherwise those mongrels will go after you to pay out your contract
2 Feb 2011 01:53:33 PM: Thanks for the tip. So are you saying I should wait to get it resolved with VF before I activate the port?

I have found that on my device HTC Desire HD, I have to set network to GSM in order to get calls at my home location and some others, if set on Auto, calls go straight to voicemail :(
I am currently testing WCDMA only to see the impact of that

14984 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Cannoto call out even to Vodafone at 30 Jan 2011 11:52:38 PM
I try sms, can't sms and have to try 3-4 times. Tried calling even to another vodafone number. Can't send complain to Vodafone and this is what they did.
They sent an email to me with the crap statement about how their coverage is 94% of the population and then set the status to SOLVED.

How can it be solved? Never had this problem with Optus or Telstra. Vodafone only want to collect $$ and not bother about solving their network issue.

14971 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is long delay in sending sms and 'network busy' all the time at 30 Jan 2011 06:28:22 PM
i switched from optus to vodafone because optus didn't have the phone i wanted. now i'm regretting that decision because i'm always unable to make calls as it keeps telling me 'network busy' even when it's not peak hours!
and also, it always takes about 5 minutes for an sms to be sent as it just sits in my outbox forever! even cellular service providers in 3rd world countries are better than this!

few times when I tried it keep on failing. Today 30/1/2011 5.05pm is the latest that we tried and failed. Worse thing I did was moved both my wife and my line from Optus to Vodafail!!

Check out the How To Complain link at the top of the page. If you are looking to get out of your Contract (penalty free) it contains the information you need.
Follow all of the steps, such as contacting Vodafone first, but you will no doubt end up at the TIO who will then be able to assist you (assuming Vodafone don't).
Best of luck, and let us know how you go.

Have not been able to use my mobile for the past 6 days straight which is not only infuriating but pathetic on Vodafone's behalf. These problems have persisted for several months. Spoke to Vodafone and they passed me onto Crazy Johns who told me to call back in a couple of days if the problems are still persisting and then they have several steps in place to determine what the problem is. How much longer will this take? It is simply unacceptable that Vodafone say they are doing "maintenance work" whilst customers are left paying for a service they cannot use. Is this not a breach of contract? Time for Vodafone to assure its customers of quality service or release people from their contracts.

A Small Businesman with reception and dropout issues, my wife works in the city and has to walk outside the building to send a text off.
30 Jan 2011 01:14:59 PM: Many people have to walk outside to make calls and SMS.......it's almost as if Vodafone has an aversion to buildings!!
If you have tried to contact Customer Care without success or not to your satisfaction the next step is to contact the TIO.
The details may be found on the tab How To Complain located at the top of the page.
Good luck and let us know how you get on!!!

14923 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Useless Mobile Broadband During the Day at 29 Jan 2011 07:18:27 PM
I'm so sure Vodafone's current problems ALL come down to not enough capacity to handle the amount of customers they have.
I'm on mobile broadband (pre-paid thankfully) in the northern suburbs of Perth and up until October/November it worked perfectly fine - most of the time. Ever since then though I can - at best - get very slow and/or patchy connection during the day - but MOSTLY none at all. Interestingly though it seems to work perfectly fine very late at night. This (to me) clearly indicates capacity issues - not enough capacity to handle their existing customer base especially during the peak daytime period. I reckon they either can't do anything about this so are denying there's even a problem. Or stalling for time until they can and hoping they don't lose too many customers along the way. We had a similar situation with our small ISP here a while back.
Anyway I now have a pre-paid Optus connection as well and use this one most of the time during the day. I'm keeping the Vodafone one - with the bare minnimum credit - in the hope that they will EVENTUALLY sort out their issues and ONLY because they have the best download limits. If after 6 months they still haven't resolves these issues I'm ditching it completely - the joys of having pre-paid.

The Vodafone networt is intermittent, phone calls drop out, data services are slow or dont work at all, its very rare that this network and its services are 100% working properly on any given day..
seems to have gotten worse since they tok over the 3 Network..
maybe i'm actually on the old 3 Network and they are just calling it the voda network..?
whatever, its not acceptable to have a carrier like this operate in Australia

14818 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Extreme Data Fail at 28 Jan 2011 11:41:12 AM
Data service delivery in the Perth area is terrible.. In most instances I am struggling to attain .7mbps down in most locations.. Vodafone really needs to match their plans with what they are actaully able to deliver.. Great to include 1gb of data in my plan.. For god sake can you give me the ability to use it.. Hopefully Apple will bring out an attachment soon for my iPhone that will take an input for a 56k modem.. Voda !! it really is getting that bad !!!..
28 Jan 2011 03:48:27 PM: So this afternoons test in the Osborne Park area nets .38 Mbps down.. Far from the 3G specification and it's been like this for weeks..
3 Feb 2011 03:59:04 PM: And still it goes on !!! Data Fail Fail Fail...
