Dear visitor,
Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant
contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced
by Vodafone customers.
Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders.
You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.
Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.
More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly.
Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints.
The site will remain online for as long as possible as a
reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.
It has been a privilege to run this initiative
and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In
particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their
continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.
You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.
Until next time,
Adam Brimo

It's getting really frustrating when i can't access how much money is left on my cap. Every single time i SMS the number, or call through.. the service is temporarily down, try again later - how convenient?! This happens every single time I try to check it, so I will refuse to pay any fees that im billed if by accident i do go over! I won't even start on the lack of reception..
21 Jan 2011 12:54:27 PM: Stop gabbing on the phone so much.

I have had bad coverage for the past 3 months. When you call to report the issue it takes for ever and in the end have not got the time to hold on. text message sending and receiving are not sent straight away also receiving text the next day. We have always had pretty good service but the last 3 months have been a shocker

I got a call from Vodafone yesterday. They advised me that my contract is almost up and they wanted me to renew my 2 years 599 business cap contract.
I asked them why you guys are still trying to sign up new customer and ring your existing to try and get them to renew their contract even though the network is almost unusable.
The data service is like the slowest thing I have ever seen. It takes about 3 minutes to load up SMH website in the middle of CBD!!!!
Obviously I had a go at the guy. I tell you what it was the best feeling in the world. I have been waiting for this phone call for almost a year.

21 Jan 2011 12:57:48 PM: erm yes that's because everyone in the CBD is trying to load stuff. The uptake of mobile data could not be predicted (nor could Facebook, twitter, etc) therefore they're playing catch up with bandwidth problems.
Phone tough talk to the poor bloke who's asking if you needed anything. Why not go big yourself up at the corporate office and demand to speak with the CEO. Outstanding citizen of the year. Tosser.

Well after 2 mths of compliants and being told by Vodafone that "yes coverage is very patchy in your area" they have released me from my phone contract. Apparently Vodafone will send me a pre-paid bag to return my iphone 3G. (Holding my breath in anticipation!)as they can only release me from the service part of the contract, not the phone payments. Ported my number to Telstra last Friday. YESTERDAY (Thursday) I get a call from Vodafone customer retention, asking how they can keep my business! HAHAHAHHAHAHA too late.

21 Jan 2011 10:55:47 AM: two thumbs up
21 Jan 2011 11:08:28 AM: Three thumbs down.
21 Jan 2011 11:08:54 AM: Firstly telstra has cap plans that are pretty comparable to vodafones in regards to price. Secondly what your saying in regards to vodafone saying that they are cheaper but their service isn't as good is a load of rubbish. Vodafone has never stated that "you may not be able to use your phone due to complete lack of signal pretty much everywhere" before you sign up for a contract. Finally it's one thing to offer a lower standard of service for a lower cost but vodafones service is near non existent. It would be like going to a mechanic because they were slightly cheaper and then they give you your car back and all they had done is sit in the drivers seat. I doubt you would be sitting there going "herp derp but it was cheaper so it's all good" if that was the case. So basically get a real clue
21 Jan 2011 11:59:05 AM: You are quite wrong. VF is basically selling a product. To sell a product it must be by law "fit for purpose" and this is where VF fails. The service they are currently providing is not fit for the purposes that VF is advertising. As a result many people end up have a phone that has as much functionality as a paper-weight.
21 Jan 2011 12:35:00 PM: 1:08 - If Telstra is "pretty comparable" then why not go to them in the first place? and if you learnt to read I wasn't saying that Vodafone was saying they are cheap and therefore their service isn't good.
To state the there is no coverage at all is just plain stupid. If you look at the contract (oh that's right, you didn't) it makes no guarantees that you will have service 100% of the time.
Your mechanic example is just plain ridiculous. Since it's a car and my safety is on the line then I don't take it to the 'cheapest' nor would I accept someone not doing anything at all.
1:59 - It is fit for purpose. I am on 3 and use it on a daily basis but put up with the dropouts and sometimes poor connection because it's cheap.
If you'd bothered researching your consumer rights (oh that's too hard as well) then you would have been at the TIO and out of your contract long ago.
Easier to have a whinge, snivelling on a website, blaming everyone else rather than getting of your collectives and doing something about it.

Having taken up Vodafone as a business client, I find it continually discouraging when the network drops out either whilst I am on a phone call to a customer or trying to locate a service.
I don't understand how the reception for other network clients is fine and mine cannot keep up. My clients like to be able to speak to me when they can and recently even just a trip to Toowoomba put me off the map!
Last year, on a business trip to Japan I was assured I would be able to roam from overseas. Having arrived in Japan, I found this was not the case and spent days on the internet trying to get my service up and running.
Only 4 days prior to leaving did I finally have the coverage I was promised would be ok. By that stage a wedding cake order had been cancelled as the Bride had been unable to locate me and I had lost other clients enquiring about orders too.
'Not happy Jan'
Now with issues on my iphone, I have not been able to use it whilst on contract with Vodafone and find it disheartening that the contract and the waaranty don't go hand-in hand. As far as I'm conerned if I'm still paying for the product and it fails through no fault of my own, I shouldn't have to wait to have the phone replaced or pay for the replacement.
The system is ridiculus and as soon as my contract is finished I will be changing suppliers.

Terrible coverage, I work in the Brisbane CBD, little reception at best of time and 3G rarely connects.
I've had calls just drop out and lose reception for no reason. Will be attempting to leave Vodafail shortly and to try my luck and give my money elsewhere.
Vodafone, don't provide the service I am paying for.

I can not be bothered waiting on hold anymore, that LARA service they have is absolute rubbish, get some people on the line to assist your customers!!! I have cal;led previously and was told there was no network issues, do you think we are that stupid!! anyway if there is no resolution I will be changing to another carrier as many have already!!
13745 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is VERY UNHAPPY! at 21 Jan 2011 10:46:15 AM
I have been a loyal customer of Vodafone for 6 years. I renewed my contract, signing up for 24 months with an iPhone 4 in September 2010.
About a week in, I noticed that my 3G data speed was rapidly decreasing - this has NOT improved in the last 4 months. This didn't worry me too much at first but then the SMS problems started. If I was on the 3G network, I was unable to send SMS but obviously if I de-activated the 3G then I couldn't browse, get emails etc. It took me 45 minutes to get through to someone who told me that Vodafone was doing upgrades in my area and it should be fixed within 2 hours. 3 days later it was finally fixed.
However, in the last 3 months I have had more that 5 times where I was sending text messages then a few hours later realising that I had not received any (ater sending a test to myself). When I called the first time, I was told that it was a problem with my sim and to reboot. This didn't work so I was given about 10 different options to go through before it started working again.
The next time it happened, I was on hold for 56 minutes before getting through to someone that could not understand what the problem was and I had to be put through to his supervisor who wasn't much more help but eventually gave me a code to disable call barring on incoming text and told me that I must have played with settings to cause this! I know for a fact that I didn't touch ANY settings and after some investigation, found that there was not even an option for call barring within the iPhone menu!
The third time this happened, I called vodafone and was on hold for 18 minutes before being disconnected. I called back, went through all the prompts and then LARA said "Sorry, something went wrong. You'rell have to hang up and try again". This happen 9 times before I finally go through to someone who told me that I had to fully restore my phone because it was a handset issue. Tried this, took 2 hours, didn't fix it. I called back anda further 30 minutes on hold got me back to someone else, I asked for the code and was bluntly told that there was no such code for call barring. 20 minutes later I managed to get him to look for it, speak to his supervisor and give it to me. Luckily I remembered to write it down as this same issue has happened a further 2 times since then.
On top of that, I constantly get call drop outs and no 3G even in CBD.
And the icing on the cake? I tried logging into Vodafone online and was told my password was incorrect. Upon trying to reset, I was told I wasn't even registered. So I went through the registration process and what do you know, all my details are exactly how I left them!
I have never had any reason to change before but I am seriously considering moving to another Telco because this is pathetic!

13737 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is EXTREME at 21 Jan 2011 10:38:56 AM
I am with vodafone on a 12 month contract. My contract expires in march. My partner is with vodafone on a 24 month contract. We have poor coverage most times, drop outs and delayed text messages. The record for a delayed message was 3 days, where i asked him to pick me up from the train station. This has occurred countless times. i had a job interview call which never called and went straight to voicemail ( where i check it had full bars of reception) I also text my friend to let her know i would be late for a lecture, where she received it 1 day later. There are times where the vodafone reception just disappears and doesnt come back for minutes. Total disgrace. i will be switching carriers to optus when my contract expires in March.

The vodofone coverage map shows good signal strenght at my residency which is not rural and now I can't make calls without having to go outside and my Internet speed is pretty much useless.
13731 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Big at 21 Jan 2011 10:32:06 AM
I'm 10Km from Melb CBD, yesterday I only had data reception on and off also voicemail messages turned up about 2 hours after the phone call. I had registered a complaint online in early December which recieved an email reply suggesting if I didn't reply in a few days they would assume it was resolved. Interesting!
Thanfully my contract runs out at the end of the month so I will be moving carriers very quickly. Having said that my problems with them started a few months into my contract when I called up to change the "best mate" number. I had my phone blocked and demands to pay out my contract. (Apparently someone clicked a wrong button and I had only called up to do it as the website wasn't working) This resulted in many hours on a landline phone to every country but Australia to try and get my phone back online.
Like everyone else, I've missed appointments due to calls diverting straight to voicemail and then not registering for hours, texts turning up hours after being sent, had calls drop out, zero reception at inconvenient times and infuriating attempted conversations with call centre staff and Lara. There isn't going to be anything about Vodafone I'll miss.

Im a new customer to vodafone and unfortunately im on a contract, i was sent a faulty phone and spent all up about 5 hours on hold with their customer service line, being put through from technical to the next ludicrous area they could pawn me off to. After putting through my complaint for what seemed like the hundreth time they finally emailed my the receipt for the phone so I could take it in to get fixed. One month later I still haven't heard from them as to the whereabouts of my phone, I call them only to be told that there is liquid in my phone most liekly from the battery leaking due to intense humidity and that I will have to pay $352 to get this fixed. How ridiculous is this? Not only am I paying $75 dollars a month for no network coverage and a phone that constantly turned off, I had to pay for the weather? Not only is customer service horrible, their policy is absolutely ridiculous!
21 Jan 2011 11:20:45 AM: If you signed up before jan 2011 lodge a complaint and say you want to be heavily compensated because vodafone have breached the contract terms and conditions.

Alright so I thought it was just my fam that got a dodgy network and could out dial out of our "full bar" phones. Initially I thought it might be an issue with the iPhone. Right until it happened on much older phone and then on a htc as well. Now if we didn go anywhere and remained within shouting distance thus wouldn't be a problem but because my gran - while extraordinary for her age is still 96 and we like to be in constant contact with her. On numerous occasions we have been unable to contact her and her us because of poor network that leVes us receiving messages like the handset is off or is unavailable or similar nonsense. We just all keep hoping that this doesn't occur in an emergency situation ..

I have delayed voicemail, no network coverage at times even when I am in CBD, my calls regularly drop out or last no longer than 2 mins and when I complained to Vodafone, after waiting for 6 hours for them to call me back, my mobile dropped out just after I launched into my complaint! Customer service of course did not bother to ring back. So not only do I have numerous Vodafone problems, I can't even contact them to complain about it. We recently moved and have no home line and I am so dependent on my mobile, yet everyday, it fails me. Driving me to have high blood pressure!

13715 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Iphone4 and Drop outs, Cant hear me on the phone and getting messages late! at 21 Jan 2011 10:21:07 AM
Well apart from dealing with Lara and trying to get her to do what is needed, the hardware being the iphone4 has numerous problems, everything from 40 second calls ending up with the person not being able to hear me, to drop outs, people cannot call the phone it just goes to voicemail, the voicemail messages get sent to the message bank hours later, txt messages coming through hours later. Being a business phone we are losing business. Our customers are experiencing bad service which is refelcted on us giving this service level all because of vodafone's lack of service! Because we are not aware of their calls, we cannot speak to new customers and help and this affects our potential income! Vodafone fix the problem stop running me through the same hoops everytime! I check the outage page and i have all the coverage bars so no reception problems. The issues are becoming more and more frequent! with no answers and everytime i call they seem to be oblivious to anyone else having these problems! Promising call back at certain times and then not calling alterntive numbers i've provided???
Good site! well done on setting up the forum to vent and let the wider public know about these problems! Getting the Iphone is just not worth these problems!

I have my iPhone with and my Mobile broadband with Vodafone.
My phone drops out frequently and so to does the mobile broadband.
I will often receive voicemails days later that are often urgent.
My mobile broadband will frequently drop at at night time around 10/11 and will sometimes not come back on again until the next day. This affects my business practices as I often cannot send important emails.
When I tried to lodge a complaint to Vodafone I had to give a ridiculous amount of detail regarding each instance of failure and due to its complications I abandoned my complaints.
I called the 'customer service (hahaha)' line a few days ago and waited over half an hour before hanging up.
Vodafone coverage is also particularly bad throughout parts of NSW where I recently went on holiday.
Not a happy camper.

Terrible reception, using an iPhone. Phone is constantly on 'E' service - at work in West Perth, driving up the Freeway north and pretty much everywhere except for home where we have a Wi Fi set up for the internet. Also holiday in Moore River - 1 hr north, out of 10 friends, every single one gets reception from other providers - Telstra, Optus, 3 etc, on various phones - iPhones, Nokia, Android etc BUT me - I got NOTHING! My 2 year contract is nearly over & I WILL BE TAKING MY ACCOUNT ELSEWHERE.

13701 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is call drop outs and flagfall charges at 21 Jan 2011 10:10:46 AM
I experience call drop outs on a regular basis, to people on all networks. What is ridiculous is that when the call drops out, I will have to call again and get charged for flag-fall (connection)again and again! And this is eating into my monthly call credits.
At times when I call people, and the line seems to be blank, no ringtone, no hangup, just silence. Then I'd have to wait for a while and then it'll be fine, standing in the same location.
The thought that it maybe a handset issue is also far fetched, as I have a Vodafone exclusive mobile phone, so either way it'll be Vodafone's issue.
To be fair, I'll add that despite my first two bills being COMPLETELY incorrect, Vodafone call centre staff where very professional and helpful, albeit waiting on the phone for a long time.

More than 2 hours on hold to Vodafail on 5 separate occasions over the course of a week trying to speak with a PERSON in customer service.
Ended up emailing my concerns, all problems that I have seen increase since December 2010: calls dropping; service completely dropping out; emails loading 2/3/4 times over; voicemail dropping out; not receiving messages at all, or much later than they were sent; poor coverage, even driving down the Mitchell Freeway! The response received from Vodafail was that my "concerns are not valid" and they have refused to release me from my contract and have said I need to phone them to discuss my concerns with a Vodafone representative...only I don't have 4 hours to wait on hold nor the inclination!
I am NOT getting the service I signed up for nor the service I am paying for. I have not received a personal apology, let alone any refund, for the considerable amount of time my phone has been disconnected from their network nor the inconvenience the above issues have caused.
Vodafone, you are rubbish.

Vodafone coverage in 3337 is horrible. Cuts out and never gets reception.
Other day called vodafone and was told there was a 30 min wait and we will call u back. they called me back and when it went to put me through to the actual operator it dropped the call, so i had to wait another 30 minutes for vodafone to call me.
also my vodafone iphone 3gs insurance expired in late september.. in oct i sent my phone for repairs and they said to put it through insurance as wifi wasn't working. It took vodafone 1 month and they didnt call me back after i left my phone with them. I called vodafone and they advised that some report had been misplaced and that my phone claim was in limbo, but then quickly they sent me an email saying it had been denied because it wasn't damaged enough! so next time i know i need to break my phone or run over it, so insurance will cover it!

Useless service. People are always complaining to me that their calls go straight to my voicemail, even if it says my phone has full reception!! Calls drop out all the time and reception drops out and goes in to "searching" mode ALL THE TIME. I have to restart my phone to try and get service back. One of the most annoying things is the time is takes to connect to a call even though it says I have full reception - sometimes I can dial a number and it takes over a minute to connect!!

13680 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Billing at 21 Jan 2011 10:05:20 AM
Hi,
My main issue with Vodafone is the difficulty I had trying to set up direct debit facilities to pay my bills automatically. I advised Vodafone of my credit card details and was assured that direct debit had been set up on my account. Approx 2 months later I noticed that I had not been billed. I rang up Vodafone again and again gave them my credit card details. They assured me that on the next billing date my credit card would be charged for the 'overdue' amount and the next bill.
Next month I experienced the same problem. Vodafone did not bill me the outstanding amount nor the current bill. I again rang Vodafone to again give them my credit card details.
Next month I had the same problem, except the way I learnt about it was because Vodafone had disabled my account - due to non-payment.
I again rang Vodafone (please not that EACH time I rang Vodafone I was on hold for an average of 30 mins)and complained. After much back and forth with an extremely unhelpful foreign call centre operator (I do not blame them, they are the frontline to Vodafone's issues and don't deserve the anger they receive). In the end they gave me a $50 credit on my account and assured me that they reversed all 'late payment' fees - I had been charged 1 per month.
The next month I get a rather nasty automated sms from Vodafone telling me that my account wasn't paid and to please pay it or my account would be disabled. I range them back (another long wait on hold) and paid my bill over the phone. At the same time I decided to remove my credit card details from my account and I would pay my bills manually from now on.
I got online some time after this to check and see if my credit card details had been removed from my account. They had not.
For the next 3 months I went to their website and manually removed my credit card details. None of these attempts worked. Finally (last month) I rang them again (another long wait on hold) and had the call centre operator remove my credit card details. They have now been removed.
At the same time I told them that I had had enough of Vodafone and told them that I wanted to break my contract and move to another provider. They told me that they could arrange that for me, however I would be charged an early cancellation fee. I decided to stay as my contract expires on 24 April 2011.
My other issues with Vodafone are the same as those I hear in the media. I have poor coverage, even in my home and I live 5km from Sydney City, delayed SMS's and call drop outs.
I am completely over Vodafone and will NEVER sign up with them again.

13673 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is HOPELESS at 21 Jan 2011 09:59:57 AM
Oh where to begin!
I've been with Vodafone for over five years and here are a few gems...
1. Originally on a $79 cap plan I had exceeded my limit a few months in a row due to friends and family moving interstate and OS so I rang Vodafone and they suggested I change to a different cap, so I changed to the $99 cap which was more cost effective. I was worried about my contract so actually recorded conversations to ensure my contract would stay the same - no problem I was told. After 3 months on the $99 cap I changed back to the $79 cap. THEN - when I called to double check when my 24month contract expired I was told the year - 2014!! Because I had changed my original cap plan they added 24months with each change! And so began a drama that lasted over a week while the problem was fixed to prove that I could change cap plans freely (as stated in my contract which was meant to expire in 2008!)
2. COUNTLESS MMS and SMS messages that never get recieved and STILL charged for (upon calling the call centre I was told there was no way to actually prove that messages were not recieved so I was to be charged regardless - this was said by an Australian call operator).
3. EXTREME waiting times to speak to a customer SERVICE operator for Vodafone and this is AFTER their call centres have been outsourced to Asia.
4. Call service operators who NEVER understand the problems as they can only help with information on their computer - this leads to repetitive conversations of them reading from a screen and not actually resolving the issue OR understanding the issue.
5. Poor, poor, poor reception all over Sydney for iPhone.

we have 14 phones and 1 internet sim all with vodafone. we joined on a corporate plan with promises like conference calling, call transfers between users etc. all of which is useless because of the constant drop outs and lack of useable service.
In one conference call a few weeks ago we took over an hour to have a 10 minute discussion and had to add people back in to the conversation dozens of times as they constantly dropped off the conference.
the time it takes for text messages and voicemails to be delivered renders them completely useless as the topic of them is usually over before we even get the messages.
The internet connection connects as HSUPA or GSM which is much slower than 3G most of the time despite all phones showing 3G coverage.
Vodafone customer service is unable to offer us any useable assistance other than to blame us, whiile their billing department is perfectly competent and charges us a flagfall for every reconnection call, every SMS and voicemail and charges us for 3G internet that is not being delivered.
Can't wait to get out of this SCAM!

I had a best dial up speed when it didn't drop out at home and no coverage at uni. I rang 4-5 times on hold from 30 minutes to over an hour which involved a sim card replacement and testing spanning a few months. I was also promised 2 months free which didn't occur. Finally I was allow out of the contract after 5 months, costing me $200-300 and disrupting my thesis.

What a lie I don't get any reception in my work building and I get hardly any at home. and talk about call drop outs i don't think Ive ever had a full conversation to someone that I haven't had to call back. They lied. When I went to a Vodafone store to speak to someone to get some help they told me it wasn't their problem and to call customer service. I told him that it was upto a 3 hour wait and didn't have that kind of time and he told me "They are the Breaks" I will never use them again as soon as my contract is up which is in 2 years unfortunately I will be going to Telstra. I should have listened in the first place and gone with them what a mistake!!!!!

I signed up for iPhone 4. The 3G network reception is extremely poor. I don't get 3G coverage at many places. Why do I need an iPhone if I can only connect to fast 3G occasionally? The voice call signals are also getting poorer and poorer recently. I lost reception sometimes even at my office in Westmead.

13654 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Epic at 21 Jan 2011 09:46:31 AM
Vodafone customer for 3+ years here. I've been enduring constant dropouts, flakey reception and poor 3g data speeds for too long. I have an iPhone 3GS in 24 month contract with Vodafone (expiring December 2011, which can't come too soon.
I am in a rather unique situation because I also have a work phone which is an iPhone 3GS as well, same version of OS (4.02), but work phone is through Telstra. Telstra coverage is almost flawless (I travel interstate for work weekly) and always where I have limited to no coverage (3G or normal network) on my personal Vodafone iPhone 3GS I can compare to the Telstra coverage on the work iPhone 3GS. Telstra is consistently better every time I check, and I don't think I've had a single dropped call on the Telstra iPhone.
Vodafone on the other hand I'd say 40% of my calls are dropped (yes, even when I'm in CBD area in different states), or get to the point where its chopping in an out and the person on the other end of the call cannot here me.

I signed up to Vodafone nearly 2 years ago and can hardly wait to change carriers; I have no phone coverage at all in my house (so that when people phone me I'm not aware of it until I receive a message some time later), which means when I want to make a call I have to go out into the street and even then the signal is weak. This is very annoying because I work from home and often miss work-related calls

I can barley get reception or 3G reception, most of the time i have nothing. The internet keeps dropping out. I have been with vodafone since November 2010 and im one very unhappy customer

I lost my phone in Bali in August. Contacting the number on the Vodafone website meant a 25 minute wait on Hold and then only to be asked why I had rung network connections. the Vodafone consultant tried to give me a 1800 number to call, I explained that that only worked ithin Australia and explained to her again that I was Overseas. this did not seem to register. eventually she was able to put a block on the phone and give me a number for the insurance company to get a replacement phone. this call cost me over $100 as it was made from the hotel phone. I had to get first my sisiter then my Assistant at work to deal with the insurance compant and vodaafone to try and organize a replacement phone. this took six weeks and had to be bought to France by a friend. after the in excess of 15 phone calls and considerable cost I found the phone did not work. I tried to call again but was put on hold and decided to wait till I returned home in late October. More phone calls revealed that they had not removed the original block when they set up the new phone despite the fact that they charged me my monthly service charge and Phone insurance excess and other charges. One telephone consultant even told me that the numbers to call on the website were wrong and needed to be updated (without a hint of irony or guilt). It took 3 months for Vodafone to get me phone working. its like they never have people who lose their phone overseas and have delt with this process in a very unprofessional manner. The problems did continue with the new phone unfortunately and eventually after many phone calls some of the charges had to be taken off the bill which made things slightly better but only fair given the very poor service. I am leaving them as soon as my contract is up.

Is locking customers out of their own web login some sort of ridiculous attempt at 'fixing' Voda's security issues? Or are they keeping people out of their account logins so that they can't see what sort of mess may have been made of their billing history? On 14-01-2011 discovered that my well memorized password had mysteriously changed, considerable time on hold later Voda managed to (temporarily) restore my password and I was able to login to myvodafone.com.au, but NOT see my account usage details. On 20-01-2001 discovered that my password had stopped working again. Still unable to log in, and see calling them again to resolve prob as a waste of my time.
Suffered long term poor network reception in inner Sydney suburbs and I'm hardly ever more than 6km from Sydney CBD and wonder how many people think I intentionally gave them a wrong number when they've tried to call only to receive a 'not in service' message? :(
So glad I'm only a pre-pay customer (or I'd be seriously worried about what is happening to my account!) it's going to be easy to jump this sinking ship as soon as my credit expires. My commiseration to those who have suffered more than me through Voda's lack of performance, especially those on contracts - good luck in seeking fair compensation!

13642 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Poor reception in metro at 21 Jan 2011 09:39:52 AM
I've have 5 services currently on Vodafone over the last two years, reception has been poor in the Melbourne metro area. Even in my home, again in metro, I cannot use mine or any other Voda phone. There is little or no signal and forget trying to use it in my study. There is a spot under my front veranda where I can conduct an almost successful conversation - but try and move from that spot and it's all over. I've complained to Voda a number of times over the couple of years and best they could suggest is to switch off 3G, put the network selection on manual and hope for the best. A month to go on these contracts and they wont see me for dust.
13641 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Draining my LIFE!! at 21 Jan 2011 09:39:42 AM
I am going on my 5th year being a loyal vodafone customer but am really starting to loose my patience with coverage issues getting worse and everytime I call with a problem my call is dropped or it simply hangs up on me.
I have spent my entire lunch breaks on hold and when it gets to about 55mins in either the call drops or they are hanging up as they know its a complaint.
If you tell the automative system u are after a new contract it will put you through to someone, sometimes instantly but as soon as you tell them you are having issues they drop you back into the que and so the waiting process begins again, which usually ends with the call being dropped.
At first I thought it was the iPhone 4 giving me trouble but friends of mine are not experiencing half the problems I have as they are with different carriers. I would really like to get out of my 2year contract but am willing to stay with vodafone on a month to month basis in hopes they will resolve these issues. It would be greatly appreciated if someone has advice on the best way to have my contract dissolved???

My problems are:
1) delayed messages and voicemail even to other vodafone phones sometimes days late. As well as receiving messages all at once instead of throughout the day when they were sent.
2) poor service and call drop outs especially within my house. I've tested this besides other phones with other providers who have full coverage and watched my service decline to zero. My previous telco had no problems with call drops outs or service within my house.
3)fluctuating 3G coverage especially within the city.
4)unhelpful staff when contacted either through the call centre or within a shop.
5) Question really - has anyone questioned the amount of information collected when applying for a contract?? I didn't have to supply as much information for a mortgage.
Thanks for organising the website! I now know I too am not alone and will consider other telcos as this seems ....are there equivalent websites for them???

Venting your tough talkin spleen at the Customer service agent is pathetic in the extreme. They didn't build the network, they don't maintain the network, nor can they do anything to make the network better.
If you really want to make a difference, then you should all call the CEO's phone lines or head office switchboard instead.

Could it be that customers are merely yearning customer service representatives to just do what they're getting paid for?

I had wireless internet for 2 years with Vodafone and it was an absolute disgrace. Constant internet dropouts and failure to log on to the network. The wireless dongle was a useless piece of garbage. We have 5 computers in the house ranging from laptops, Mac's, and PC's, and no matter what hardware was used, the same issues were always there: dropouts, failure to log on to the network. I will never go with Vodafone for anything ever again, and im only 30 years old, so that means they won't get a cent from me ever again, neither will they ever see business from my wife, or any of my future children. Keep doing this to people Vodafone, and your days will be numbered. People get locked into contracts for 2 years at a time, but like me they will leave once the contract is over and will never come back and will slander your name at every opportunity. My complaints were never taken seriously as I was always instructed by "technical support" to do the same thing that the previous drongo told me to do. Eventually I gave up and got another internet contract that has none of these problems, paid my monthly bills with Vodafone until my contract ran out. Vodafone never again!

I always have issues with it disconnecting, or it not connecting at all. i have been to the stores and they said said it was just a bad simcard and so ive had that replaced. but it doesnt change. now i swapped by useage and the customer service guy said i could go up to $39 month for 8GB so i agreed and now it says only 6 on myvodafone. i have emailed to complain and days later no one has bothered to return an email or call. not happy.

I think it's just vodafone australia that absolutely sux! NZ Voda was fantastic! The only reason I'm even still with them, is that I've yet to find another provider for my parents who offer an actual pre-pay service, rather than a direct debit one...as soon as I find that, and my 12 month contract is up, I'm gone. I have random reception issues that they can't explain, and they can't even follow simple delivery instructions. I also had to argue with a customer service rep to convince them my address existed! official complaints laid and nothing done about it...apart from an "apology" GRRRRRRRR

In my case, they made investigated two times but still same problem.most of time my mobile is in no service.
I think they don't care about customers because they shamelessly say cancel the service.

21 Jan 2011 09:42:18 AM: its not just cell burn causing issues. voda have to manage backhaul capacity, backend system capacity and uptime etc etc.
21 Jan 2011 09:51:26 AM: Regardless of the pricing - if a company sells you a phone with attached data usage this should be usable. The many comments here are pointing out that even trying to make or receive voice calls is problematic.
If a company purports to be a telecommunications carrier there is a reasonalb eexpection that the basic services should work clearly that is not the case.
Vodafone are totally in control of signing up additional users. They could put a maratorium on signing on new users say for 3 months until they improve things - however they do not.
They are compounding an already bad situation. Your suggestion that it is user externalisation of the problemm is laughable. To use an analogy if you bought a new $15,000 car versus say a $100,000 BMW - is there an expectation that the cheaper car has substandard breaks or steering. I think not - it functions as a basic car.

After being a vodafone customer for several years starting with a work mobile (that I did not pay the bills for) and then moving onto being a direct customer I have had my fair share of network problems. That is not what I want to post about.
When I decided to leave Vodafone, I contacted their call centre. After around an hour in various queues I finally got to speak to someone and requested that they terminate my service and contract. As I still had around two weeks before my contract was up I was told that I couldnt forward date the cancellation so would need to call back once the contract had finished. This was quite annoying as I really didnt want to have to go through the pain again.
Roll forward two weeks. I called again to request that I cancel the contract. This time I waited in excess of an hour to talk to someone and when I finally did they would not terminate the contract for me. I had to answer a whole bunch of questions about why i was leaving and then get put through to someone else who had some "great offers" to talk to me about - despite my protestations I went back on hold, this time for another 45 minutes (at least).
The next person eventually cancelled the contract.
Roll forward 1 month - I got a bill. Not for the phone service but for two video packages that I had on the phone. APparently termination of the phone contract so the phone no longer works does not automatically cancel these services.
As the bill is only $7 per month, I think I will just pay this for the rest of my life to avoid the need to ever have to deal with Vodafone again!

I have been with vodafone for many years now! Originally pre-paid i was comfortable with my choice of carrier. I then chose to go over to a contract. I have had reception problems for the last year & 6 months, & i was told the exact same thing with every call. Its your phone.. I had by this time changed my phone three different times. I then rang up to cancel my contract & sat on the phone for 1 hour. After i was put through i could not understand the lady. & asked to be put through to the manager. After another further ten minutes on hold i was told that i could have 50% off my cancellation fee. Again i asked to be put through to the manager. Another further ten minute hold before i was put through to the manager. Vodafone's service is unbelievable. You should not have to be on hold for an hour before speaking to someone. I have since changed carriers & havent had a problem. Thanks vodafone for being a FAIL!

Hi I can't wait till both our contract's run out in 2 months, for the past nearly 2 years, it has been constant drop outs, and lack of coverage. When visiting Lancefield/Romsey there is no coverage. When I complained to some locals, they said "you aren't with Vodafone are you? It doesn't work here"
As I'm going to be visiting there regularly this year I can't wait until I can go with someone else who offers a decent service for the $$ we pay. Also had problems with late voicemails & texts, and when signing up got a 10% discount on the contract, with 2 months free, this has never happened, gave up being on hold and talking to several different people who all promised to fix our account, never have got the 2 free months, and no 10% discount. Absolutely hopeless. Think we might have to go back to Telstra, they are rip offs but at least you get the service you expect.

I just got the new iphone with vodafail 6 days ago. Was told when I got the phone that if the coverage was bad either in my place of work or my home that I would have cause to cancel my contract. Came to work and guess what.. no service! I work in East Melbourne. Have now spent a total of 3 hours and 14 minutes dealing with them on the phone and have been told that yes we do have problems with our coverage, but you need to wait 5 business days for us to 'investiage' your claim. I have spoken with 7 different people on the phone and have got nowhere. What was interesting was that they kept on trying to offer me better plans or free stuff. I am on a $49 plan, and they offered to upgrade me to the $70 plan for free, not bill me for 2 months, and also give me a credit. I asked how this would help me when I GET NO SERVICE!!! What a complete joke. I have signed up for the class action law suit against them and am going to take this as far as I can. I want out as soon as possible, and I will never ever recommend them to anyone.

I have delays in receiving text messages & voicemail messages. The other day I received a txt message from my brother 6 hours after he sent it and we are BOTH with Vodafone. The worst thing is my coverage has got worse since I renewed my contract in November. I should have gone with my initial instincts and signed with Optus instead. Goes to show what you get when you get sucked in by being offered a free iPhone 4!!!!!!!!!
Now all i want is to get out of this contract and go with a telco that gives a stuff and provides a decent service. PLEASE GET ME OUT !!!!!!

I HAVE BEEN USING VODAFONE FOR LAST 10 YEATS AND NOT ITS TIME TO THINK ABOUT OTHER AVENUES. AT LEAST EVERY 5 MINUTES I WILL GET DATA LOST MESSAGES.THIS IS SOO IRRITATING AND MOST OF THE TIME I WILL NOT HAVE RECEPTION FOR EITHER CALL OR SMS.I AM USING THIS CRAP FOR MY OFFICE WORK AND CLIENT HANDLING.BUT I WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR SIGNAL OR LOOSE MY CONVERSATION.THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS WHEN I GO AND ASK VODAFONE RETAIL SHOP THEY PRETEND LIKE THEY DON'NT KNOW ANYTHING AND WONT DO ANYTHING AND ASK US TO CALL CUSTOMER SERVICE WHICH IS NEVER BEEN ANSWERED.IS THIS THE CUSTOMER SERVICE?THIS IS FULL OF CRAP.NEVER BUY VODAFONE OR NEVER RECOMENT TO ANY ONE.

Here is a list of the issues I have had in the past 3 week I have been a customer.
1 - Multiple dropped calls when calling another Voda customer less the 1 km away with the CBD.
2 - Failure to set up a new pre paid sim x2. Firstly after completing 90% of the process I got transferred and needed to go through the entire process again with an actual person. Secondly after completing the entire set up process and waiting for my number to come through for 6 hours, I called and was told nothing had been recorded and needed to do it all again with the customer service rep.
3 - After setting up my vodafone online, i then needed to reset the password, entered my number and was then told i had failed to answer my security question 3 times and was locked out for 24 hours.
4 - Tried to register my Credit card online, never used it before ever, but was told i had tried to register it too many times and could not complete.
5 - after being told by a CSR that the amount i topped up would determine which prepaid plan i could go on, i had to call customer services to change plans.
This is all within 3 weeks, after 3 years living in the UK i cannot believe how backward and prehistoric the vodafone network is in Australia. It is extremely expensive and incredibly hard to do anything involving changes to your account.
Oh and i forgot, after picking up a my new sims from a vodafone shop telling them i needed micro sims for a iphone 4, he gave me normal sims. I returned to the shop and then cut them down, but i still needed to trim the smaller sim to phone the phone.
Joke. Is Telstra any good?

21 Jan 2011 09:41:19 AM: Telstra gives $200 credit welcome pack when you join for the first time.
21 Jan 2011 09:54:44 AM: was with 3 ever since they started and joined voda in September 2010 then just recently joined Telstra last week.
Telstra got the best reception and internet speed hands down. i had to upgrade my data pack to 2gb because it was that fast. With vodafone ive never gone past 1gb due to the super slow speed. Also! Less than 5mins waiting time when calling their call center!!
Telstra all the way!

I regularly catch the train from Melbourne to Bendigo and whilst on the train I get no reception on either 3G or GPRS and yet I see other people happily talking and emailing. I have tried with several handsets with the same lack of result. My contract is up soon, so no more Vodafone for me.

When I signed up with vodaphone around september 2010, I got this fancy samsung galaxy S, The phone itself is sweet. What shits me is that I was told my deal would allow me 2GB of data every month. Turns out this isn't the case as I've received a bill/s for almost three times my monthly cap amount because of apparent excess usage and I dont use it that often. No more than I did with my previous provider and I averaged around 100-150mb a month. This was a real piss off, not to mention the constant loss of network, go to catch up with mates in the city, and cant call them to find where they are. Why? BECAUSE VODAPHONE SUCK MONKEY BALLS!

I have just cancelled my contract with vodafone after nearly 2 years, after having reception problems for nearly 1 month, customer service told me they would look into it and get back to me in a week, after 1.5 hours on the phone i took the next step and went through to cancellations and got out of my contract without any fees which was the only possitive thing about the whole situation
13580 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Moderate at 21 Jan 2011 09:10:28 AM
My reception in my apartment literally went to nothing for approx. 4 days in December. I'm assuming because they were doing their rolling repairs. I switch to 2G and it worked. But I pay for 3G not 2G.
My real anger comes from all the stories of people ringing up and getting bills credited after argueing with them for a long time. I'm not a confrontational person, I don't want to ring up and abuse staff and ask to speak to managers just to get a credit on my bill. They should just give everyone a credit on their bills until the problem is fixed.

Whenever I go inside a building, that's it. No reception. I usually have to be a few metres away from a building to get any reception at all. Not very convenient if you have to make an important call regarding something INSIDE THE BUILDING that you need to stay close to, hm? I can't even use my phone in my own house. Usually I have to wonder around to find those 'special' pockets of reception that are few and far between. If someone calls or texts, I won't know anything about it until I go outside. The only exception is when I'm in the city. How can the reception be so different 20 minutes drive away?
13575 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is promise a lot but deliver rubbish at 21 Jan 2011 09:08:54 AM
Very slow and sometimes unable to browse at all on an Iphone and an Ipad. I also recall losing the service completely in Northmead. On calling them, I got told to reboot devices, etc even though i repeated several times that both my mobile and my wireless broadband stick showed no service. The indian CS insisted that there were no network issues, and I insisted in turn to be put through to someone in Australia, whereupon I told them what the issue was. Coverage was restored several hours later... why not tell the truth , Vodafone?

I'm not in a mess anymore as i finally switched carriers.
I lived in St Kilda East at the time and could never get reception!!! it was so frustrating, the only place i could get coverage in my appartment was in one corner of the balcony (not fun in on winter nights). Whenever i complained to them they simply stated that 'that you are covered on the map so you DO have coverage' .... NO vodafone ... there was no coverage. And no it wasn't my hand set, i swapped it three times and friends with vodafone also had the same problems. Also because there was no coverage my messages weren't getting through till days later.
I learnt quickly why they have amazing deals. I'm now with another carrier, there customer service is annoying but unlike vodafones i hardly have to use it as i have perfect coverage!!

Signal mostly at one bar, but cannot receive make calls. 3G just doesn't exist as internet mostly doesn't work and when it does it goes after loading half a page. Even when there is 3G coverage, the Internet connection cannot be established and I have to put my iPhone in aeroplane mode 3-4 times for the connection to be established.
13567 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is 100% at 21 Jan 2011 09:06:14 AM
I have both my mobile (which I stupidly recontracted myself for another 2 years in Nov) and mobile broadband with Vodafone. My mobile - drops in and out all day every day, I work in Sydney CBD so you'd think there would be AT LEAST 3 bars of coverage, nope. I travel on the train from West Sydney through Parramatta every day and there is barely any coverage any time along my daily commute. Mobile broadband - The last 4 months I have had the mobile broadband nightmare of nightmares, barely 2 bars of reception, I connect only to be disconnected within a minute or so sometimes within a matter of seconds. Each session I spend on the net is filled with me reconnecting at least 50 times in every half hour. Seriously.
After numerous times waiting on hold for up to 45 mins at a time I got through to the "technical" department (after actually getting through to someone twice previously that morning but due to no call drops outs had to call back again and again). Their solution to my coverage problem was to get into my car, put my laptop on my lap and drive around till I found coverage in a nearby street and then call them back!!! So they expect me to drive around continually looking at the coverage bars on my laptop screen to see when it picks up then pull over, call them back abnd sit on hold for another 45 odd minutes.... wow how has this guy not been made the president with his ingenious solutions! I let him know what I thought about that idea and asked to be put through to someone to disconnect my broadband as as far as Im concerned I am not getting what I am paying for, excellent! No, not really as I was on hold to the disconnection dept for another 30mins and hung up. Fumming, I attempted this fun excercise in the morning. This time asking right off the bat to be disconnected and again told I had to be put through to the disconnect dept "NO WAY!" told the cust service girl to get them to call me, Im not playing this game every day. Was told they would call me within 48 hrs. 5 days later, I get a call, saying that i am in contract for another 3 months and I would be charged a cancellation fee and that I had the option to fix my coverage problem but had "declined" the tech persons offer to resolve it. How is it acceptable to send a person driving around with a laptop in hand surely at the risk of having an accident or getting a fine for using a laptop while driving! There solution was a joke! After an hour of agruing with this guy and getting no where, I hung up. I wish to god that I had never reconnected my mobile phone with them or got mobile broadband, compensate your customer vodafone, we are paying for a service we are nto receiving, they are not holding up their end of the contract! oh btw, even if u sign with them and have coverage issues, bad luck. Coverage is not guaranteed, even in the middle of Sydney CBD! What a joke.
I now yell out "Vodafone Sucks" each time I walk past any Vodafone outlet, hoping the new customers will listen to my warning and stear clear! God help us all.
