Dear visitor,
Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant
contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced
by Vodafone customers.
Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders.
You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.
Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.
More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly.
Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints.
The site will remain online for as long as possible as a
reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.
It has been a privilege to run this initiative
and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In
particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their
continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.
You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.
Until next time,
Adam Brimo

113 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is F@#king Nightmare! at 17 Dec 2010 01:36:12 PM
My phone is my business and without it I loose customers. Not only is my phone dropping out every 5 minutes but one of my biggest gripes is dealing with foreigners in these overseas customer services centres. I don't think any of them have had any proper training and they are hopeless! So much for customer service! Vodafone should have full customer support in Australia!

110 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is 110% at 17 Dec 2010 01:32:18 PM
I live in Glebe, Sydney. For an extended period I had no reception at all within a quite well-defined geographical region taking up most of the suburb. I contacted Vodafone repeatedly, -on my mobile phone from an area where I did have reception- to find out what was going on. They refused to help me beyond telling me to do several things to fix "the problem with my handset" which required me calling back on another phone. After I explained the problem, and the fact that this was a -large- problem BECAUSE I HAVE NO OTHER DAMN PHONE. I perservered like an IDIOT for several weeks. Reception returned, for about a week, and then failed again. At which point, I caved, and switched to Virgin. I highly recommend that course of action for anyone else, even if it does mean paying to have your handset unlocked.

108 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Line drop outs, no cellular network, VM, billing issues at 17 Dec 2010 01:31:52 PM
I work for a small business with 26 employees and we signed a contract with Vodafone and the phone has never worked properly at all. We have informed Vodafone and they are still fixing it for nearly 10 months. We have lost business as well. ( As the customer wants to discuss a quote on the final day and they tried us and we did not get the call and we got our VM after a day, when the customer went with another vendor. Hope this gets resolved.

Fell for their sales spiel to close down Telstra deal and upgrade handsets.
WHAT.A.JOKE! My husband through his work is also with Vodaphone and no word of a lie it's nothing for us to be talking and get cut-off up to 5 times during a 7-8 minute conversation. It's too infuriating for words. Despise Vodaphone more than anything! (Figure they rig it this way to be able to chanrge flag fall over and over and over and over and over.) Just con artists. 106 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is MAJORLY at 17 Dec 2010 01:31:07 PM
I have been a VODAFONE customer for over 12 years. We (my company) have 12 phones currently on a business plan.
The data service is soooooo slow and yes when you are on a call for a long period of time it drops out even if I am in a good reception area.
ALSO I've had an issue with their MyVodafone website for over 4 years. I have made many attempts to try and fix this problem (even one time I was on the phone with them for over 1 hour) but at the end nothing is solved.
My contract is due on April, 2011.
I WILL NOT RENEW OR SIGN UP ANOTHER NEW CONTRACT WITH THEM EVER AGAIN.

105 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is so 1990 at 17 Dec 2010 01:30:18 PM
So sick of not being able to use the internet on my iPhone. The only thing I can rely on - is no service, doesn't matter if its on the bus, in the street, in my office - it all sucks. When I asked vodaphone why this was happening, they suggested I upgrade my service - pay more, get nothing more... no thanks.

101 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is so so so fail! the worst! at 17 Dec 2010 01:29:12 PM
Like many of you I was a relatively satisfied customer on prepaid. I've been a customer of Vodafone's now for 5 years. In May last year I signed up for a two year contract so I could get an iPhone and was immediately dissatisfied with the network coverage. Isn't 3G supposed to make coverage better?!
Recently the coverage has severely worsened, every call that I make drops out at least once. I can't have professional or other important conversations on my vodafone number because the calls ALWAYS DROP OUT. And I live in Kings Cross in the heart of Sydney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just ridiculous.
Voicemails never appeared on my iPhone on time - regularly appeared several days later. People would get very frustrated with me because I hadn't returned their call when I didn't even realise they'd call. Because Vodafone would also just divert them straight to voicemail, even when I should have had perfect reception in the middle of the city (and it said I had full reception).
Anyway, I've had $10 a month raped out of me since I signed up for insurance. When I needed to claim, I lodged a claim online (in October). They sent me an email with NONE of the details I needed saying someone would contact me in five days. No one ever called. When I finally got around to dropping my phone in to Bondi Junction yesterday the unhelpful salesman said I needed a claim number. When I checked my email at the store, there was no freaking claim number. I showed him this was the only thing they'd ever sent me on the matter. He said I would have to call the claims dept and get it myself before he could help me. I asked, couldn't he just look it up on the system? No, he said, I needed to call them myself from the store phone. Wouldn't take long. I SAT ON HOLD TO VODAFONE FOR TWELVE MINUTES WHILE IN THE VODAFONE SHOP.
Did you know they have a thing called a 'Churn level' or 'Churn number'? I asked another naive looking salesman what it meant while he was logging my phone into their system (mine said 'very low'). He said it's the category they put vodafone customers into based on how likely they are to leave the company. I said to him 'Well, after sitting on hold to vodafone because of your screw up for 10 minutes while in the vodafone shop, maybe you should change mine to extremely high, because come May I'm outta here' and he just laughed.
I'd encourage you all to call vodafone and insist that they change your 'churn number' to extremely high. They don't take people's complaints seriously.
When I had no service all day at the big day out this year (like thousands of other young vodafone customers at homebush) I called and complained a few days later. Vodafone's response? Have 300 free texts. OH THANKS A F**KING LOT, I'M ON A F**KING CAP YOU DOUCHE!

97 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Service only works 50% of time at 17 Dec 2010 01:27:42 PM
Constant drop outs during calls...never able to load web pages on iphone...pathetic coverage. This has been going on for at least 6 months. I contacted the TIO and Vodafone were forced to let me out of my contract. I hope Vodafone loses a huge amount of customers as they continue to suck people onto their network with cheap plans that don't perform how they are meant to. They deserve to be investigated by the ACCC. They obviously don't mind signing on more customers but are reluctant to spend real money on their network. PATHETIC Vodafone...hope you lose a large part of your customer base. You lost me after being with you for many years. I'm now a very happy Optus customer and guess what??!!?? my phone works now!!
96 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is More fail than fail at 17 Dec 2010 01:26:19 PM
I am at the stage where I know that first time I try to make a call it will fail after around 30 seconds. I now initiate the call, immediately hang up, turn airplane mode on and off, then try and hope i can eventually hear the ringing tone. pathetic at its best. internet, simply forget about it during business hours, sometimes my iphone gets stuck in a loop of trying to fetch email, which eventually drains the battery in about 2 hours.
voicemails - more often than not come at best 24hours after.
Note for next contract - Screw vodafone!

95 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Evil at 17 Dec 2010 01:26:00 PM
I can't imagine how a Corporate could offer worst customer service. I have spent hours and lots of my Vodafone credit listening to their hold music. When they screwed me with an over blown bill, they told me to get lost. When I complained to the ACC, they rang back immediatly to kiss my @ss.
94 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is 7-8 fail at 17 Dec 2010 01:25:34 PM
Two days later I get voicemails. Downloads freeze halfway through if they even get that far. Drops out of reception. Call failures. No internet connection. 3G working tirelessly but nothing coming up. I need porn dammit! But more so I need it for business and work opportunities.
I am a 10+ year customer, regularly paid 1.5x plus my bill in extra data costs while on my 3GS and was happy to do it because I didn't wait more than 30 seconds for a page to download. Fix this shit, Vodafone, fix it now.

I tried to call customer service all afternoon yesterday and after I went through all their tedious options, the call would drop out, in the same place, every time.
91 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is pathetic at 17 Dec 2010 01:24:28 PM
Had only received my new IPhone on Voda for 2 weeks and was downloading at 20kps whilst my colleague was downloading at 220kps with our phones sitting next to each other!!
Another time..I had to wait for 5 minutes outside a friend's place before I got reception again so that I could call him to tell him I had arrived!! He lives in the middle of the city.

90 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is 3rd world service at 17 Dec 2010 01:24:23 PM
Vodafone sux in the city. I constantly cant send SMS, or get delayed SMS, continuous dropped calls and waiting on hold to Vodafone for at least an hour before being hung up on. I have been with most of the carriers and Vodafone has got soo bad over the last 2-3months that the service is almost non existant.. 3rd world service Vodafone!
88 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Totally at 17 Dec 2010 01:24:11 PM
My phone often simply does not ring, driving people straight to my voicemail, despite me having the phone on and with "full service". I get "missed call" and voicemail notifications sometimes days later. My phone regularly drops out and there are black zones where I know my phone simply won't work. I run a service oriented business and this makes me look bad. Thanks Vodafail!
86 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is bait and switch at 17 Dec 2010 01:23:26 PM
Signed up to the Vodafone iPhone $29 CAP 24 month contract, at the time of signing up it came with 550MB of included data (50MB + 500MB bonus). Due to delivery delays we received the phone some weeks later, subsequently AFTER signing up to the contract, the $29 plan had its included data reduced to 200MB.
Despite joining before this plan change, we were only given 200MB!! Numerous calls explaining this is not what we purchased/signed up for were ignored. Eventually we had to engage the TIO to beat Vodafone with a stick to give us what we signed for.
Beware, Vodafone does not know how a contract works!

85 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Terrible at 17 Dec 2010 01:23:14 PM
I am a 3 Mobile Customer and ever since the 3 Hutchinson network merged with Vodafone my service has dropped significantly. Where I used to get 3 - 4 bars 3G signal i'm lucky to get 1 bar now, and this is in inner Sydney!
84 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Beyond a joke Fail at 17 Dec 2010 01:21:56 PM
We live in Brisbane, near the city and we're lucky to get 1 bar of reception. My car broke down one night and I had to walk to a convenience store to use their phone as my Mobile refused to connect my calls. Calls drop out all of the time, missed my dream job as the Boss rang me (my phone didn't even ring) advising me I had gained the job in a Voicemail, which I didn't receive until 3 days letter. They thought I was not interested and thus offered it to somebody else. My husband is self employed as a Driving Instructor and his mobile is his office. IT NEVER WORKS! I dread the day he has an accident and I don't hear about it.
Waiting on hold for 40 mins and finding out "Lara" has put you through to the wrong department and then waiting another 40 minutes while they connect you.
Paying premium dollars for nothing.
I don't get that we have to meet our end of the contract and pay on time yet they can provide absolutely nothing and that's okay.
Not being able to terminate is crazy. We signed another contract so we could upgrade handsets, as they blamed everything poor on the Nokia N97, upgraded thinking everything would be better with the Iphone and it's just as bad.
So over it! We get treated like crap and that's okay.
Don't get me started on the overseas call centre who you can barely understand!!!!
I want out Vodafone!!!

22 Dec 2010 09:31:01 PM: Vodafone obviosuly was created just to make ur life hell. That is exactly what they want to do....
28 Dec 2010 09:46:00 AM: I have been a Vodafone customer on prepaid for over 5 years. A year ago I decided to upgrade and go on an Iphone plan, that's when all the problems started. 2 months into my plan my phone had massive faults and had to be replaced. 6 months after that my replacement Iphone had to be replaced due to a faulty switch. Just before the end of my first year my replacement phone was having massive reception issues (my husband had slightly better reception on his Nokia). I had VERY limited reception in Brisbane city and in most locations on Brisbane North-side. I rang up Vodafone and argued with them over several days and they finally agreed it was their problem (I reply on my phone for work). They agreed to replace my Iphone for a Nokia. Since replacing my phone again (phone 4) in just over a year, I STILL get VERY POOR reception. I'm very unhappy and I want out. I am over poor quality handsets, poor reception and lack of customer service.
83 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Average at 17 Dec 2010 01:21:09 PM
I dont see what the big deal is for the most part. I have a vodafone blackberry in sydney and would never call the service great but its concistantly average. Optus is just as average in my experience. Telstra network rocks but they have the WORST customer service and their plans are a bit behind now aswell. The network will get better, all this whinging will make sure of it.
82 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Robbers at 17 Dec 2010 01:20:52 PM
I have vodafone mobile broadband on a two year plan with 6G allowance.
I keep a close watch on my usage using the software from the modem, i stopped using the vodafone modem last month when according to the modem software i had reached 5.5 mg. My bill therefore should have been $39. I received a bill for $300 dollars with my invoice saying i had used 8Gb of download. I am not a foll and would not have used this much download. I contacted Vodafone, the best they could offer was to give me half of the payment back.
I addition to be ripped off my a false claim of the amount of download i have used i have just been sent a bill of $89 dollars for the month of December, even though we are only half way through the the month.
ALSO, the internet connection is very poor, speed is very slow with frequent drop outs.

I work for a software company that offers 24/7 support, which I am on the roster for.
* phone doesn't ring and only sometimes missed call is shown.. Also, voicemails always appear late (> 1hr later)
* call dropouts & call failure when dialing.
* 3G drops out without warning, making iPhone apps useless.
Living & working in crows nest Sydney - service like I'm in Cobar.
They said it was my 10yr old sim card... Got a brand new one with the iPhone 4... No difference!
Is there a Trade Practices Act problem here? I think so!

I signed a 2year contract with vodafone about 1month ago- I have come to realise this was the worst decision of my life.
I have been experiencing little to no reception- majority of the time. delay in recieving msgs. unable to send messages- at one stage i was resending messages an average of 10times before they would actually send. No one could get through to my phone. this is shit.
I called up costumer service, was put on hold for an hour before i spoke to a person in India. Who told me it was a handset problem/sim problem and I should return to my vodafone dealer to get new settings and a sim. This is funny because I had just got a brand new samsung galaxy when i signed the contract.
I returned to my vodafone dealer and they told me. They;ve been experiencing the same problems with vodafone themselves- ie cannot sign contracts because the vodafone system is down.!!
Vodafone SUCKS even their franchisee's think so. what a load of bs and waste of money

Vodafone you could have a big legal case to answer. If I get any more phone drop outs etc...during work hours I am going t spend the money to take legal action as your service is my ability to function at work terribly limited. You are going to suffer massive customer losses if you don't sort your network out now!

There are times when I simply CANNOT get onto the internet - and I live within site of a communication tower! I have been into a store and sent an email but had not joy there - I've not event tried to call them as I would use up my entire monthly allowance just waiting to speak to them.

No service, dropped calls, messages are 5 days late, my customers think I don't return calls, etc...
On hold for hours, no real help or advice...I would like a refund, or/and a different telco.
Very frustrating!!!

71 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Pathetic at 17 Dec 2010 01:14:52 PM
My wife and I have been loyal vodafone customers for god knows how long.
mobile broadband... a joke! snail pace slow at best but the bulk of the time doesn't connect or drops out.
As for the iphone... yeah shows reception can't load a page, drops out all the time often for the day... texts may or may not be received.
What shits me the most is the contempt they treat us with...
2 hrs to get someone then they screw you around lie thru their backteeth when they know exactly what the problem is... Been waiting 2 days for disconnections to call back...
Where do i go? Telstra? Optus?

69 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Big fail at 17 Dec 2010 01:13:47 PM
OMG. Where do I start. My company has been giving Vodafail so much money for the last few years and he service has been terrible. I get constant drop outs, call failure, terrible browser connection. I am a loyal and excellent paying customer but enough is enough. I am going to get out of my contract when I have the energy to face the horrible process of explaining terrible service to some poor person in another country who will understand most of what I am saying. Please stop telling half truths Vodafail.
67 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Not as fail as optus! at 17 Dec 2010 01:13:41 PM
Like many vodafone users, I suffer from poor service with optus. Poor service with mobile reception, internet usage and customer service. The telcos abuse their position as market share dominators and refuse to rectify any issues until you go through the pain of contacting the TIO. I had an optus customer rep refuse to verify my identity on the basis that it happens to also be a girls name. The issue was only rectified by optus when I contacted the TIO. I never have reception on the train, my phone drops out and forget about using the net. The ACCC needs to watch for anti-trust behaviour with so much of the market share belonging to a few clowns.
64 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is complete at 17 Dec 2010 01:11:21 PM
Calls drop out constantly, voicemail messages not received until 12 hours or more later, sms not going through. I live in inner city Sydney and am tied to vodafone because my company uses it. Have been told by a Vodafone rep that Darling Point is a 'black spot' for reception!!!

Yesterday I was on hod for 1 hour and 59 minutes. I was transferred though 3 different people, none of which could help or even listen to the prooblems I was experiencing. the 4 operator finally spoke to me and admitted "yes, it is pretty bad service in NSW right now." ..."but hold in there and it will improve in january"
In the mean time, will Vodaphone pay for me to use another netowrk so I can make or recieve calls from customers???????????? will they refund my monthly bille since september??????????? No. I doubt it.

62 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Terrible at 17 Dec 2010 01:10:40 PM
Dropped calls, unable to connect or call others, call fails, and incoming calls go straight to voicemail. Been ongoing for 3 months!!
Spend tens of hours trying to deal with the 1555 team. Everyone you speak to knows nothing. 1555 calls take almost an hour to answer and then you get cut off - intentionally I wonder?
Website also works intermittently, and don't waste your time speaking to them in India especially if they 'promise' to call you back.
Dial 1512 for balance updates and 'Lara' almost always tells you they having technical difficulties.
Unless someone (e.g. ACCC) can impose a hefty financial penalty nothing will change.

This is going to be my last stint with Voda. Been with them for over 10 years and it has never been like this..

massive issues in Syd CBD and surrounds. After spending close to 3 hours on the phone to vodafone, getting hung up on, calling back, getting hung up on again! Finally get to talk to someone and get released from my contract that had 14 months left to run. Thank god for that! Can't live without my blackberry!!!
47 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is not so bad for me at 17 Dec 2010 12:55:46 PM

46 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Epic Fail at 17 Dec 2010 12:54:32 PM
Have both mobile and mobile broadband - in short, not impressed. As a self-employed consultant, my mobile and broadband are critical to getting my work done. With hardly any coverage in the CBD, its makes work rather difficult. Worst still personal events were unfolding on Saturday's epic coverage fail that I desperately needed my mobile..... As soon as my contracts are finished, I will be taking my business else where.
45 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is arrogant at 17 Dec 2010 12:53:47 PM
I live and work in Sydney CBD, and cant use my iphone for internet, and can barely call.. fine if I leave the city. After days and weeks arguing via twitter and email, I've come to the conclusion that their staff have no comprehension skills (or were playing dumb). I guess I should move house to where my phone works?
43 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Epic Fail at 17 Dec 2010 12:51:21 PM
Reception is dreadful. My phone is constantly either on the Edge network or receiving no coverage at all. We call it 'Nodafone'. When it takes forever to load a page or even make a call, 'Slodafone'. This is my first contract with Vodafone and it will be my last. Roll on August!
41 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is very!! at 17 Dec 2010 12:50:43 PM
I am not with Vodafone, but my mother and daughter were until recently (both have just changed carriers). My daughter lives in Sydney (near CBD), but frequently her calls were interrupted when the signal dropped out, or was so patchy that I could not hear what she was saying. When she visits me (in Broken Hill, NSW), she has to go outside to get reception and even then it is patchy. My mother lives in the same city as me (only a few streets away), but often could not get a signal or could not receive calls. Both have recently changed providers.

But don't get too excited they completely missed the point and gave me an answer that was totally not related to my problem!! Needless to say I probably shouldn't have expected them to get it right! I only have 4 months left on my contract and Im switching as soon as its up!!! Bye bye Vodafail you've just lost a 6 year loyal customer!

38 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Getting worse and worse at 17 Dec 2010 12:47:11 PM
I have been a customer for more than 6 years. Up until a few months ago everything was fine. Now my wife and I have to try 3 or 4 times to get through to each other on the same network. Mobile Internet is nearly impossible. Ever since they merged with 3 they have also switched to their pathetic network. Two contracts up in new year, where I will switch to Telstra. I have an iPad with Telstra and it works perfectly anywhere. Telstra have come to the party on price, and their network simply works. Goodbye Vodafail. I catch a train from Sutherland (30mins) and would be lucky to have internet coverage for 5-10 mins of that journey. You would think that there would be reception at major hubs like Hurstville or Sydenham but Vodafone doesnt seem to be able to manage that either

I rang up and complained and they said they'd give me a free HTC Desire HD - two months ago. Can't be bothered ringing up again for now.

But still I've yet to receive the replacement handset. On top of this I often get dropped calls, switching from 3G to noG or even no signal. They have a non-existent customer service. Utter failure. 1.5 weeks before I had to go overseas I thought I should use their convenient online iPhone unlocking service to unlock my phone for a $20 charge. Unfortunately, my IMEI number is not in their database even though I signed up at a Vodafone retail shop. I've emailed, I've called, I've left message for their 'unlocking team', 2 months has passed I am now back in Sydney, still no contact about how do I get my phone unlocked. Did I mention my boyfriend whos with T*lstra unlocked his iPhone 3 weeks into contract, took him 15 mins to have his phone unlocked, and it was free.
Oh I would also like to complain the bad reception too, but I can't be bothered just repeating what everyone else has said already.

12 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Pathetically Fail at 15 Dec 2010 08:08:46 PM
Coverage is non existent, You pay for 3G and end up with 2G which on a smartphone is nothing short of an insult. No internet converage. Gets page cannot be displayed for the past two days. Call centre staff attempt to talk over the top of you. Trying to stuff you about as they say they are trying to help. Help yea right. They know its their service not the sim card. Total denial there is an issue. I have experienced call drop outs, not being able to make a call, the promise of full 3G signal and having no service at all. Vodafone is more hassle than they are worth and more stress than anyone should endure.

Your phone service in Brisbane has fully died on my iPhone 3GS (AGAIN) and I couldn't call a taxi to get to the train cause my bus was late. This is NOT the first time it's happened and I've tried resetting and it's a constant issue. How much will it cost to terminate my contract and get away from your shit service?
24 Dec 2010 09:51:16 AM: TIO WILL GET YOU OUT FOR FREE.
28 Dec 2010 09:06:36 PM: They ended up giving me a new iPhone no questions asked and now my service is working fine again. In fact I can now get more than 1 bar of reception with the new handset. So I actually think it was the handset not the reception in the area that I lived in.

Spent over a total of 12 hours on the phone and not once have spoken to a human being.
Shameful.

8 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is BEYOND ABYSMAL!!! at 14 Dec 2010 07:18:03 PM
I have to re-dial every time I call my parents in Sydney, I mean the calls keeps dropping all the time. I can't browse or use the net, my phone has hardly a bar of reception! And I am paying for 2GB of data that is hardly used. Try to speak to someone and expect to be on a waiting call for over one hour, disgraceful! - I recently paid my last bill - $390 including insurance for stolen mobile, which I don't even want to remember what a nightmare this was just trying to get this matter resolved. After paying this bill I noticed VF deducted the same amount by direct debit! - I am now short $390. I mean, I don't get a service but they don't even blink to charge you as soon as they print the bill!!! SHOCKING. I can't be bothered to contact customer service and spend half of my day waiting for someone, AND let me tell you going to a Vodafone store is not any better, AT ALL!!!
