Dear visitor,
Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant
contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced
by Vodafone customers.
Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders.
You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.
Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.
More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly.
Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints.
The site will remain online for as long as possible as a
reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.
It has been a privilege to run this initiative
and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In
particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their
continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.
You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.
Until next time,
Adam Brimo

3845 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Fail at 27 Dec 2010 04:45:33 PM
They informed us when we signed up that we would get full coverage in our town and if we didn't we could get a refund, after a week of no coverage i went in to complain. They said to wait a little bit longer while they fix/upgrade their tower. It didn't happen, i rang Vodafone and they said they couldn't refund the few months we payed for but would cancel the contract if we sent everything back. And now i have a default in my credit history.
3844 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Shocking at 27 Dec 2010 04:45:30 PM
The only time I have had decent reception was while I was in the USA and was roaming on the AT&T network, my coverage here in Australia is terrible, constant call drop outs, data fails about 90% of the time. This is not what I signed up for. I have only just signed a contract and I want to know can I get out of it?
3843 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is DISHONEST at 27 Dec 2010 04:45:27 PM
My children have signed Vodafail contracts for many phones, yet at our hom e we get NIl reception. Vodaphone like most other Telco's operate dishonestly in the way they state you will have full reception at your home address, which is in urban Brisbane. Vodafone are just a bit more dishonest then the rest.
Great to see this site up and running. People avoid Vodafone at all costs. They are a dishonest company running over its consumers. Worse then the Qld Govt and that is a big statement. DISHONEST DISHONEST DISHONEST

Voda outsource Australian jobs. Take $$$ from Australia, then send it to India and the Phillipines. There should be taxes imposed on companies that avoid paying Australian workers.

Can I return my modem and receive my money back plus my $29 dollars for the credit?

3835 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Bad Reception at 27 Dec 2010 04:44:43 PM
Whats the point of having "INFINITE CALL PLAN" when you have INFINITE RECEPTION DROP OUTS! Unluckly I have instead the next worse plan, a Vodafone Cap plan.
I can't believe that I have to apologise to 1 out of every 4 people that I speak to over the mobile when the reception cuts out. I try to keep phone calls short to reduce the chances of the reception dropping. Regardless if for business or for personal use, this is really poor service. I have accepted that this the norm for Vodafone and when my contract ends this year, I'M OUT!

3834 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Very at 27 Dec 2010 04:44:38 PM
When I joined Vodafone more years ago than I can remember part of the service they provided was the ability to send text messages over their website. At least two years when logging into www.vodafone.com.au as a customer one still sees the link "Send a TXT online". When selecting this link the page that comes up has the message: "Sorry, this function is currently unavailable. Please visit us again shortly". As I said, this was at least two years ago, which makes a mockery of their statement "Please visit us again SHORTLY". pkdancer.

I am an Invalid Pensioner, and i am on the net threw a wireless modem (3g) and i also have a touch phone connected to Vodafone which drops out all the time and i still get charged the same amount. My Internet drops out and i have to continually reboot because of this, and they charge me and take more and more of my downloads because of this, i can not afford to be charged extra as i am on a pension and they don't care, and when i ring them it's always an Indian speaking person and i cant understand what there saying, they have charged me $300 once because of automatic updates and re connections which is not my fault, this mounth is the same, i have gone over and i am frightened about my Bill. I never use all my calls on my Phone or my internet and i never get renburst for left over or not used services, this needs to change.
3828 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is at 27 Dec 2010 04:44:16 PM
Where do I start?? I have been a Vodafone customer for 10 years. I am now wondering why I have put up with the crummy service they NOW provide. Extremely poor coverage, I have complained about this many times and I just get excuses. Since the customer service has been moved overseas the level of service has hit rock bottom. I've had the worst service ever from vodafone in the last month, yet I am still waiting for my complaint letter to be read and actioned by a real person and not by an automated email response. The last off shore customer service man I spoke to continually said sorry to me and to give Vodafone a couple of weeks/months to sort out the issues. I'm sorry to YOU Vodafone but I have been waiting for years to sort out your crap. I regret signing up with them for another 2 years! I will gladly tell my pain with Vodafone to anyone that can try and bring them back down to earth and improve their services.
3827 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Seriously crap service at 27 Dec 2010 04:44:15 PM
When making a simple local call, my I-Phone Vodaphone provider will drop out at least three times, and its costing me a fortune to call back over and over again. Also, I constantly have a "No Service" or "Searching" message on my screen. This can last for up to three hours, and happens at least once or twice a week. My text messages will not go through on occasions, and I also do not get my voicemail messages, sometimes up to 24hours later!! I am extremely unhappy with Vodaphone, am tired of calling their "help line" (their help is just part of their crap service) and then being put on hold for a minimum of 20minutes, while the call usually drops out anyway. I am going to be taking my complaints to the ombudsman, and will seriously try to get out of my current contract!!
3826 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is extremely dissatisfied at 27 Dec 2010 04:44:01 PM
we have no network coverage, put on hold for to long(1-2 hours)waiting and in the end vodafone just hang up on us,we can't text or make phone calls, bills never come on time and vodafone charge to much for the services they can't deliver,we are in and out of vodafone stores to solve problems but we going nowhere, what is the point using this company,we are done for good with them.

3822 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Customer Online & Call Centre Serv ice at 27 Dec 2010 04:43:50 PM
I have had a fairly small problem (as I still only use the older GSM service !), as I couldn't re-charge my Mobile, so I called the Customer Service call centre . Many hours later, and speaking to numerous people who kept referring me to someone else, I gave up ! So I sent an email, and 1 week later received a message apologising for the delay, and hoping I had solved the problem in the meantime ! I hadn't, but decided to go into a Vodaphone store instead .It was a good move as I was quickly served by a friendly lass, who soon had my phone re-charged - problem over ! So it seems that besides the reception problems, Vodaphone have a real problem with their call-centres and email customer services !

3821 Someone from NT thinks vodafone is CreditRatingFail at 27 Dec 2010 04:43:42 PM
I cancelled a data plan with Voda several months ago and moved city. They billed me for 4 months of 'no usage', forgot to cancel it and put a bad mark on my credit rating! I didn't even receive the mail because I had moved. They forgot to disconnect me, then when i didn't pay the $120 I wasn't aware of, they listed me with a credit agency. Awesome stuff, thanks guys.
3820 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is 75% at 27 Dec 2010 04:43:36 PM
I am tired of Vodaphone and other large telcos stealing my unused prepay funds by not recharging by the due date. In my case I lost $75. keep recharging or loose all the accumulated free call times. The catch is even tho you have plenty of credit if you dont recharge by the due date you lose all. This is equivalent to old fashioned highwaymen. They are stealing our money. We could have text reminders recharge at least. At most the money we spend is ours and account recharge periods should be at least 6 months. Why not ? ? ? the answer is of course that it serves them to maintain the current system Vodaphone prepay customers forfeit millions. They steal just like the big banks do. Its a corporate disgrace and lacks business integrity.

My service constantly drops out when I make calls from my prepaid mobile. I have been a customer for 7 years waiting for them to upgrade their service and coverage and am increasingly becoming disgruntled because I have been loyal and patient. I tell others not to join with vodafone if they want good reception and have no previous issues with telstra or optus as I have (home internet problems unrelated to mobile service)

Used Vodafone 3 since 2006. Since 2008, Vodafone 3 service in Melbourne has been atrocious. Unable to complete any call with a duration longer than 5 minutes. The network would always reset calls crossing the "Hour". I have bills showing multiple cases of repeated flag fall to same receiving number.
Both my wife (used a Vodafone Blackberry for business) and I left at the end of our our contracts, and will never use Vodafone again.

3806 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Very fail at 27 Dec 2010 04:42:27 PM
I was a 15 year customer of Vodafone and was, up until the last few years, a happy customer. Then they started by forcing me to accept emailed bills (I need Hardcopy bills for tax purposes) which meant they shifted a small but not inconsiderable cost upon me. Then I started to notice an increase in dropped calls, poor reception, and delayed delivery of SMS and voicemails. Needless to say I paid my way out of my latest contract and moved to Telstra. Telstra have been fantastic: cheaper, far far better coverage, and immediate delivery of voicemails. I won't be returning to Vodafone, and intend to transfer my wife's mobile over to Telstra ASAP.

When I called customer service loyalty team at 8am on the dot (because thats the time they open), I was still kept on hold for 45mins. I hung up and called back later to be told they are experiencing a high number of calls and they will call me back with the promise I wont lose my place in the queue and then 5 hours later I get a call from someone who couldnt even help me. I joined in March 2010 after being unhappy with the reception and dropout from 3.What makes me very unhappy is that I explained to the salesperson the reason I was leaving 3 and they failed to inform me that they are one in the same now.I need the phone for work but there is absolutely no reception at work and only 1 bar at home I have to roam around the house to try and get some reception. When I complained to vodafone they told me to do all these useless things but nothing worked.I should be allowed to opt out of my contract since the phone is not doing what it is supposed to.
21 Jul 2011 10:46:48 PM: Hey do you have 1 bar of 3G reception? If so you can switch over to 2G and you should get 5 bars.
However, using the internet in 2G mode is significantly slower. On the up side though, your battery will last quite a bit longer.

3795 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Technically Incompetent at 27 Dec 2010 04:41:27 PM
After purchasing a Nokia n97 on a Vodafone plan I have had nothing but continuous call drop outs (up to 3 - 4 per call at times) over the period of 6 months. I then changed to another model / manufacture of phone believing the n97 was riddled with issues, only to find similar problems but on a slightly less scale. Speaking with Vodafone they were very quick to blame Nokia with their n97 saying that they had know it had issues however continued to sell it even after numerous complaints about it from the client base. Vodafone has extremely poor coverage within the metro area of Adelaide and I would definitely recommend that users not subscribe with them until they can commit to a network upgrade (more points of presence). They are very quick to blame the manufactures without taking a look at their own inadequate infrastructure.
3794 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Absolute ****, ****, fill in the blanks yourself at 27 Dec 2010 04:41:18 PM
My wife signed up with Crazy Johns, who use the Vodafone network, in Feb 2010 and has complained several times about the service to no avail, and still has 14 months to go on her contract. The coverage in the Geelong area is, according to the Vodafone map, 100%, but when we visit our Daughter in Lara she has to go outside and stand in the road to get coverage, and even then it's intermittent. Try one of the shopping centres and all she can get is Emergency numbers - what a joke. It's about time we started to fight back at these telco's over their so called 'Great Service', maybe not through a class action, but through a mass court apparance if we all refuse to pay the bills.

I live in Coaldale, which is about sixty kilometers south of Sydney. Recently I subscribed to Telstra's broadband network due to the frustration I feel toward the Vodafone network. The situation for me was and still is deplorable. Currently I DO NOT have reception at all when I'm at home. I now use Skype through the Telstra broadband connection to make calls from my mobile, as I'm still on a contract with Vodafone.
In August my sister Rose died. I was at home at the time of her death and out of range of the Vodafone network. My family had no way to contact me to inform me that Rose had died. The situation for me was that if I wanted to make a call using the Vodafone network, I would have to walk a kilometer to the local train station and often wait for a weak signal to make a call, which then would often drop out.
Rose had been dead for two days before I found out what had happened. A friend came over to where I am living and said I should call my family. She told me that she had a call from my other sister Christine telling my friend of what had happened. I was guttered. I asked my friend if I could use her phone and I was able to speak with my family for almost an hour before hanging up. I spoke to Christine for more that an hour without interruption on a different network in exactly the same location I fail to receive a signal from the Vodafone network. I can't help feeling absolute in my contempt for the Vodafone organisation, and any company that use the Vodafone network.
For a telecommunication company Vodafone, in my opinion, have no concept of how important it is to be able to communicate... just ask Larra.

RE:Vodaphone Class Action
Dear Sir/Madam
Thankfully i found your firm ,i would like to be part of the class action.
i have been having serious problems with vodaphone we are in Port Macquarie have terrible reception on the mobile phone (PERSONAL DETAILS REMOVED)
we were promissed coverage which failed and has caused embarresment and loss of business.
most times frustated to the point of anger constantly line dropping out whilst conversing with local& international clients.
in as well to our frustration with Vodaphone with the service they provide.
now there is a major breach of the companies privacy obligations and "unbelievably slack security"
"negligence exposing my family to criminal activity "
Vodaphone staff doing "favours " to criminals to access my details .
Its scary stuff why its in the wrong hands!
Vodaphone has breached The Privacy Act.
Its a gross breach of privacy almost negligent exposure to criminal activity !
our private details accessed on the internet'we are surprised how easily the database could be opened.
"who we contact"
"my date of birth"
My entire call list everyone i had been ringing or even text and the time i spent on the phone is visable !
personal details from vodaphone database.Name ,home address drivers licence ;credit card details. "Unbelievable"
Serious lapse in security by this rogue mobile phone giant.
Now my personal details ,are accessible from any computer globally.
i cant get on to vodaphone as i ring when i have coverage wait for 30 -45 minutes get frustrated and hang up.
its difficult to go to another carrier why i cant transfer the number as its under contract.
they are collecting money from my bank account for services i cant get full benefit.
it appears to me they Vodaphone are collecting money by misleading me and by deception .
i am extremelly pissed of with Vodaphone misleading me into signing a contract with them.
My email was tampered with by some criminal !
our home has had unscrupoulus criminals intimade my family for money!

I was with 3 mobile and my contract ended the person in the shop convinced me to sign up with vodaphone. he said that vodaphone would have better signal in the postcode than 3 although i used to get network coverage with 3 mobile and now with vodaphone i have absolutly no network coverage. the most important thing i said to the guy many times was having good signal strength at the places i go. he looked it up and said i would have signal. got home and i have no signal. have been back to the shop many times to try and resolve the issue and i have had no luck, the shop is telling me to ring customer service and i have done that after being on hold for ages they did nothing several times. so my new 2 yr contract is absolutly usesless due to having no network coverage about 90 percent of the time. i have a business to run an the phone is really makingit hard.
3784 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Extremely Fail at 27 Dec 2010 04:40:32 PM
I ended up leaving vodafone, very poor coverage, customer service was an absolute zero! It would take more than half an hour just to get to the right department then the friggin call would 'drop'. Call costs were way over the top! Not good enough!
3783 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Sick of speaking to MUMBAI at 27 Dec 2010 04:40:29 PM
Have had numerous problems, stemming from call reception problems, drop outs, broadband and internet connections, multiple billing, incorrect billing, dealing with that horro of a voice recognition menu option "LARA" who not only doesn't recognise simple english, doesn't offer options that you need, and drops-out mid-call, then the 40min + wait to speak to some moron in Mumbai or wherever (always Inidian accent) who always says problems are due to some "software" upgrade and "really sorry but nothing I can do about it"...bu115h!t...sick to f'ing death of it. If they are consistently doing software upgrades, perhaps they should spend sometime getting it right before implementing and having to continually fix! The website is just as bad...MyVodasuck would be a better name. I am tearing what little of my hairy I have left waiting for my contract to expire so I can go elsewhere. Oh, almost forgot to mention how crap their shop staff actually are when you try and see them in person...even less helpful than foreign call-centres. YOU SUCK EVERY WAY POSSIBLE Vodafone!!!! ARRrrrrrgggghhhhhh!
3782 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Seriously crap service at 27 Dec 2010 04:40:27 PM
3781 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Continual fail at 27 Dec 2010 04:40:19 PM
Shoddy customer service for the last 2 years, but more recently, a complete loss of signal in my house, irrespective of where I stand. This is a completely new problem and has resulted in me standing out in the rain to field calls. Not impressed.
27 Dec 2010 04:43:46 PM: Oh that is so true in my home too. I used to get partly decent service, now I sometimes have to actually leave the house to make calls. Also, I spend a fair amount of time in Turramurra on the upper North Shore, which is a completely "dead area" and has no Vodaphone service whatsoever in certain streets (and Im talking about the Pacific Highway area, not right up in the Ku-Ring-Gai bush area!)
3780 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Absolutely horrible at 27 Dec 2010 04:40:18 PM
I recently joined vodafone on a 24 month contract, and I badly want to get out of it, I switched over from my opts pre paid with great coverage, to my vodafone cap and every day I have trouble with reception and the Internet speed is so slow! Sometimes I can go a whole day with my phone saying no service and it's quite annoying not being able to use my phone when I want, especially when I pay for an unlimited plan. I don't think I'm getting my money's worth at all.

Bought a Dell inspiron package with Vodafone 2years ago which included the notebook & wireless Internet, that became a total waste of money after the inspiron's motherboard failed after 9 months of use previous to the hardrive failing within 3 months. I tried returning the product from the place of purchase with a response that it was Dell's problem, so I rang Dell who responed by saying the product was out of warranty. I asked about our consumer rights in QLD with a stern reply that this doesn't apply to Dell. Went back to the Vodafone store of purchase with a response from staff 'if you ring customer service & ask for loyalties they might help you if your lucky!' I tried ring the C/service but there was no loyalties option. I give up! so I'm still paying for this contact which I don't have the facilities to use which were supplied by Vodafone, Thanks VODAFAIL

Signed a 2 year contract in Nov 2009 and have had nothing but problems since. 2 software reloads and a new handset have made no difference. Call dropouts and no reception in places like Batemans Bay and Narooma. Add to tath the terrible assistance you get when you ring them, and Vodaphone is simply a joke.
My plan was to sit it out til Nov 2012 when my contract would be up. However with this website, maybe something can be done to show Vodaphone they can't offer a service that doesn't actually exist.
The fact they came out on the news tonight and apologised for the bad service shows they know something is wrong.
Looing forward to seeing what happens from here.................

I have had my new IPhone on a vodafone plan for only 3 months, but am thoroughly sick of its poor performance. I thought the phone was faulty, until I went into a Vodafone store, and the young lady showed me that she couldn't get network coverage either. In a city of 60,000 people? Disgraceful! Constant "network error messages", sites taking up to 5 minutes or more to load (if at all) and THEN giving an error message, and phone calls that drop out so much that the call either ends itself or I end it in disgust. What the heck am I paying for??!!

The worst thing I every did was join up to Vodafone. Every bill I have received in the last 24 months was incorrect. Every month I was on the phone for 2 hours thryingh try to sort out their mess. Back in April Vodafone charged me $4,150.00. All these calls were made overseas even though that I was in the country (& not overseas). I offered to show them my passport to prove that i was not overseas at the time the calls were made. They did not seem interested in seeing my passport & advised that i need to pay the bill or they would cut me off. I am still trying to sort this mess out with them. I have never been with a phone company who does not give a SHIT about their customers.
When i rang up to complain about the phone (& internent) service droping out -
they claimed that I just had to deal with it & hung up..
I finally changed my phone & internet to Telstra who have been fantastic.

My wife and I only recently finished our 24 month contract with Vodafone which was the WORST experience we have had with ANY carrier ever! The problems started when we decided to get Vodafone Mobile Broadband, I use the term Broadband loosely! Sitting at home in Suburbia (14ks out of CBD) for the first Month of our contract we could NOT even get the thing to connect to the network? 20+ Calls of frustration insued, Vodafone REFUSED to cancel our contract even though we were not getting ANY service that is meant to be supplied in our agreement that we both signed! It went around in circles, the customer centre could not authorise anything to be done, so they put us through to the head office and they refused to do anything either! Over and over again we got the same answers, 'we are looking into it it appears to be a problem in your area' 'we are sorry but it is Telstra slowing things down' bla bla, how can it take a month to fix a service issue for an area?
When it DID finally work it would cuttout, dropout and speeds were pathetic! I used to take my laptop into work and from the middle of the CBD in Melbourne I could not get it to connect to the internet half of the time then when it did it would dropout or slow down! When I complained to Vodafone about this they said it must be my laptop.... ? ? ? How the hell can it be my laptop the software was installed off their disk? Or I was told that I must be too far away from a tower, I was in the middle of Collins St! Pass the buck back to the consumer?
Abosulte worst waste of space I have ever seen in a carrier we will NOT be making that mistake ever again and have warned family and friends away from them too!

3755 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is data pains at 27 Dec 2010 04:37:29 PM
When I signed up 18 months ago on a 24 month plan, It was suggested I get the largest plan available, so as to avoid paying high data costs if I go over my limit. Vodafone data tranfers are so slow on my HTC phone, that even if I was to do nothing but down load data for an entire month, 24/7, I would still be struggling to make my limit. I should have being more realisticaly informed on a less expensive plan, for the usage I told the sales person at the time I would use. I calculate I am out of pocket each month because I was told I would need a bigger plan. Once my contract runs out,(aprox 6 months) I will be cutting and running from vodafone, unless they pic up there act with down load speeds. And yes....I am in a down load hot area, the service is worse when I am out and about.

I thought I was the only one. Vodafone used to be at the top of its game - looks like it's another case of getting too big too quickly. I was out one night in Sydney and had to get a friend to a medical centre urgently - I tried using the map on my i-phone but the 3G cut out, then the signal was out so I couldn't dial the medical centre for directions. In the end we drove to the nearest hospital. Thankfully my friend was okay - it could have been more far more serious though.
3747 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is ridiculously comlete failure at 27 Dec 2010 04:36:25 PM
Mobile broadband, and lack of assistance from overseas call centres, costing a fortune in phone calls trying to sort the mess out...on a 12 month contract and am hardly able to use the internet, and when I am able, the speed is non existent. I couldn't use it at all for two months of the contract due to incompetent staff at kiosk/shops constantly giving me the run around with incorrect sim's. For three months I have also been charged an extra $10 per month for the internet key which was supposed to be free with the contract. (This has at least been stopped) I live an hour and a half from adelaide and was assured that my connection was going to be fantastic. I am lucky to get access to the internet for three hours a week, and even then, it cuts out on a regular basis...in fact it cut out while typing this out and have had to try to get back on. Vodafone, you are a pack of mongrels, and your service is pathetic. I have had a gutful of this inferior rubbish, and the second my contract is up, I am ditching the company, unfortunately I have 9 months left. I could go on and on about my dissatisfaction, but I will restrain myself, well a little anyway! I have passed on my complaints to the company as well as anyone who will give me the time of day. VODAFONE, YOU SUCK THE BIG ONE
