Dear visitor,
Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant
contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced
by Vodafone customers.
Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders.
You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.
Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.
More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly.
Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints.
The site will remain online for as long as possible as a
reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.
It has been a privilege to run this initiative
and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In
particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their
continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.
You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.
Until next time,
Adam Brimo

i'm pretty sure that i read something in adelaide now, that vodafail has come to the final realisation that they have coverage issues, it did state that if you were experiencing constant dropouts and no 3g that you could be released from your contract, personally, used to work for optus, and especially wth the usb device that if they could not give coverage, u were released from your contract, personally i would take any issue wth coverage, phone drop outs, speeds- that they advise you should be getting and aren't straight tho the TIO.. their number is 1800 062 058.. but they will ask if u have spoken to a manager, and if not please do so... and then call the TIO for futher assistance.

3540 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Pathetic at 27 Dec 2010 04:19:17 PM
For years I have received terrible phone reception from Vodafone living in suburban Melbourne. I can't hear people, calls drop out, people can't hear me, the phone doesn't get reception at all for hours at a time, sms messages are late in delivery, voicemail messages are delayed for days & this all happens constantly. I've since changed to Telstra where I get better reception in the middle of outback W.A. than with Vodafone in Nunawading.
3539 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Poor coverage at 27 Dec 2010 04:19:17 PM
Notice difference when 3(three) was taken over by Vodafone.
Looks like 3(three) is now on the Vodafone network - although they are yet to admit this. Drops out continually - coverage poor.

Despite Vodaphone saying they are putting in extra towers a number of years ago there is still no coverage in Korumburra Victoria and poor coverage in the southern Mornington Penisula Victoria. Also frequent call drop outs.
No wireless broadband in Western Port Bay Victoria area.

3537 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is costly at 27 Dec 2010 04:19:05 PM
Ive recently moved to Melb from Sydney - I get a bill $400 over my normal spend amount. So I call Vodafone to question my bill and I am told that its because of network upgrades! They tell me it should be fixed within a couple of months and that it will be worth the wait once the "new" network is up and running and that these kind of things happen in order for a better service. I asked the Vodafone rep why I should be expected to pay for a upgrade and I explained that I keep getting calls dropping out, cant access emails, voice mails that dont come through, and work cant reach me when I am on call - and considering I am in one of the Emergency Services my phone is absolutely required! The phone rep offers me a $112 credit as good will, not as a admission of liability he says. I asked about cancellation fees because of the poor performance and they tell me $998 ! Shonky shonky shonky! Im logging my complaint with the TIO and will be trying my absolute hardest to ditch Vodafone as soon as I can.

3532 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is SHITHOUSE at 27 Dec 2010 04:18:38 PM
We recently signed up to an iPhone with vodafone. The service is crap with constant no service in areas where friends who are on telstra or optus have full bars. How is this possible Vodafone? I also find that text msgs to other vodafone customers do not get through at the time they are sent.....rather 5 hours later....I am glad someone has the guts to stand up to them. I will never go with vodafone for any service again. Although I am unable to get out of my contract without paying it out I hope this site ensures that they don't get any further customers. Maybe they should stop sponsoring and paying those cricket stars for the ads and put the money they pay them into making our service better. After all we are the people who pay their wages.

been signed up for the last 2 months, must have had my head buried in the sand coz never heard of this many problems before. Changed over from 3, which in Townsville provided us with roaming via Telstra, and always had a reliable edge signal. Whilst in Melbourne my wife and i got our new phones on contract. We had good coverage, even whilst in the Yarra Valley, full HSPA signal. On returning home to Townsville however is where the problems started. My phone's battery was crap, barely lasted 10 hours on standby doing nothing on the phone. Was told by the phone support, goto the store have it swapped over on early life. Got to the store to be told that it couldnt be done as I had got my phone from a dealer not the company, and would have to wait 2 weeks for it to be sent out in the mail. I cracked it. After hours of arguing, the store eventually caved it and gave me a new phone. Amonst all of this, when asking the phone support about my signal issues, the guy said "we can only guarantee coverage outside, we cant guarantee it inside your house". What the? I cracked again. How could i get brilliant signal from 3 (roaming on Telstra) anywhere i went in Townsville, and not with these idiots when they are the same company now? Am very disappointed, should have stayed with 3 until they disappeared as least would have reliable signal.
3521 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is voda who? at 27 Dec 2010 04:17:39 PM
I stupidly suggested to my partner that she sign up with Vodafone mobile broadband because her building had no broadband wiring. Now she has moved in with me and has to continually re-connect. Vodafone mobile coverage here (Sydney northern beaches)is diabolical too.
Last year I was on the mid north coast of NSW with absolutely zero Vodafone service with friends sitting next to me talking on their Telstra and Optus phones. Vodafone sucks

3520 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is poor service at 27 Dec 2010 04:17:30 PM
Sat 25dec am no 3G service in my area southwest sydney (Ingleburn). Rang vodafone service number and connected to Mumbai India then line cutoff.Rang again and finally some guy took all my details and raised a report for the network team. Today 27dec the 3G service is working again. For such a large worldwide company they better do something soon for their customers. Its simple maths: vodafone+happy customers=profits. Or put another way:other networks+happy customers=no vodafone,no employees,no board,no CEO.
3519 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Stuck with a contract I can't use. at 27 Dec 2010 04:17:28 PM
I live in the Gold Coast and am committed to a 2 year vodafone plan.
I went onto a high end plan so that I could replace my landline.
The vodafone coverage maps show that I am saturated by perfect 3G coverage, but the 2G and 3G coverage is so bad that I am unable to make or receive phone calls from inside my home!
Telstra service is perfect in my home, so I'll be moving to them ASAP/

3517 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Care-less and Crazy! at 27 Dec 2010 04:17:21 PM
I'm trapped into relying on Vodafone through their subsidiary Crazy Johns. Totally unreliable both for coverage (I live in Northcote in Melbourne) and for service and care. All I have EVER had are empty apologies. On one phone call I was on hold for over 5 minutes while the employee read through my endless stream of issues with coverage and bad service. DONT use Vodafone or any company that shares their network.

3511 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Terrible beyond Bad at 27 Dec 2010 04:16:39 PM
To be fair I have a company phone but I believe I should also be part of this website. I have numerously complained to our HR department on how bad the drop outs and the time to receive messages. All our sales reps have the same problem. We would be talking to a customer and all of the sudden with full reception bar, the calls just dropped out. We have to make the call again to complete our conversation. At times we have to do this 3 or 4 times to complete a business deal. When one of us send a message, especially with hot deals for customers, the receiver doesn't receive the message till 3 or 4 hours later. Few times I receive messages up to 24 hours later.
Looks like they don't care what we feel as long as they are paid for the 3 or 4 calls we made to complete the conversation.
Vodafone, get more financial help from your UK head office and upgrade your network!!!!!

I am not, because I dumped them. In the bush Western VIC they have many dead spots which will see you stranded with no coverage. They are not on all sites like Optus/Telstra so OPT OUT. Vote with your feet and go to someone else. They wont go and build new sites in 24 hours so walk.

I have two phones through vodafone and spend about 250 to $270 a month with them one month they sent me a bill for $500 I thought it must be because I did not pay my bill on time on there system the next month it was even more $1000+ they started sending me letters that I must pay or have my service cut off, I am very busy but had to ring them to see what was going on they told me that my unlimited plan was limited which pissed me off, but there was still no reason for the bills to be so high I spent two days on the phone trying to sort it out instead of running my business and earning money I was talking to people who couldn't care less about the issue at hand.
I ended up speaking to someone in head office in Sydney I think they worked out that my blackberry was connected to the net the whole time which it is supposed to be but they where billing me for each minute when there not supposed to.
There service is crap and let's me down on a daily bases it is so consistently crap I am totally used to it now.

The past 6 months have been the worse. Constant call drop out even in Melbourne's CBD!!! I try re-dialling only to get busy signals or get the vodafone number you are calling has been switched off only to redial again and get the caller (clearly phone hasnt been switched off). Yesterday my wireless broadband dropped out 25 times in 2 hours... Im on an umlimited plan but my partner is on 49 cap and always go over because he has to text because he cant get through. I dont understand why this is happening when all telecoms use Telstra's mobile towers?? Seriously Vodafone get your act together.

My multiple attempts to contact them and discuss any issues ever since I have been with them have led to frustration, frustration and even more frustration. Not to mention a total waste of my precious time. If I ever hear the voice of Lara again...
Trying to email them is just as hopeless and then when this proved unsuccessful, their emails tell me to call them!
Customer service..if I looked after my family the way they look after their customers, I would have had my children taken away and my husband would have left me!

3487 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is in need or a major upgrade.. at 27 Dec 2010 04:14:56 PM
I waited over 3 hours in total of a 6.5 hr phone call. And was then bounced around from wrong department to wrong department (OZ to India & around again). Let's start at the beginning.
I was with 3 mobile broadband and had horrible internet connections with them. So when they started merging they suggested I move to Vodafone because they offered more data for the same price. It started out ok but soon went down hill. I was promised a month free and a free modem. Modem arrived it went well. Then it slowed to a crawl. I rang them. They said there system had started charging me from the first month of the billing cycle, as if I had used 8Gb in a second and then proceeded to charge me above the cap price. I was assured he would ring me back at the end of the month and that my account would be placed into high priority and would be resolved asap.
Well no phone call, but they did leave a voicemail supposedly on my mobile broadband modem! How am I supposed to listen to that? They have my mobile number and they know this is an internet connection. No bill either. SO I contacted them again. Was promised another free month for my pain etc. Soon after the modem stopped connecting to the net at all. Again called same thing, sorry sir, blah blah blah. Worked again but now the connection metre says 4 bars constantly buy 0 data comes through. I have to refresh 6 or more times to get anything to load.
I called again and this was the 6.5 hour call I referred to at the start. Again things were promised and nothing has ever been done. I was then sent two bills totalling $190 odd for the first two months that were supposed to be FREE months.. Not bad VF..
So here we are now. I know the towers are being upgraded in our area "soon" but that does not excuse the poor billing and customer service.

I had to move unexpectedly and the new area i am living in does not have any coverage at all. I must have spoken to 10 different vodafone employees either via phone or an outlet and I got a different story each time. In the end, I could not get out of my contract and am waiting to pass the contract onto someone else. Not happy Jan!!!

3484 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is A prepaid rip-off at 27 Dec 2010 04:14:45 PM
Not only is this service bad (I have now changed to Amaysim) but its fees are over the top. The amount of money they must spend on sponsoring the Cricket Test matches and also a yacht on the Sydney to Hobart must be astronomical. I think Vodaphone Directors must feel they are in a stratisfied atmosphere (along with a number of their pommie counter-parts) that they can snub their noses to their clients.

Turned it on and found that 2 feet from their shop at willows in Townsville they have no coverage, one to two bars of coverage through Townsville. Don't go out of town though you get none.

I have recently (2 months ago) transferred to vodaphone from telstra after having bad reception on my telstra internet stick. My new vodaphone pocket wifi device has worked everywhere I have taken it even in areas that vodaphones map said had no service. I am wondering if this is a stunt put up by telstra as in my experience telstra sucks and does not deliver what they say they will and vodaphone has always been reliable. I live in launceston so I cant vouch for their coverage on the mainland, but it is good here.
3473 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Extremely!! at 27 Dec 2010 04:14:11 PM
I have been with Vodafone for two years, until early November I'd had no network problems so re-signed for another two years and bought a HTC Desire HD. BIG MISTAKE. I don't know whether the phone is partly the problem, or whether it's purely down to the poor coverage and service from Vodafone, but from the day I brought the phone home I have had problems. If I am lucky enough to get a 3G signal in my apartment - which is one train stop from Sydney CBD, so should, theoretically be a full coverage area - it lasts only a minute, so making calls, keeping the call going, and being able to hear the person I am speaking with is difficult. As I write this I am unable to make calls or receive calls at all, it has been the same since 11am, so seven hours so far today. And it isn't the first time.
When out and about I'm unable to surf the web, Facebook doesn't update and accessing email takes a long time, and often times out. Twice now my phone has completely frozen, meaning I lost all call information and texts; very annoying!
Oddly, my husband has a basic Nokia phone which is connected to the Vodafone 3G network, he has no signal problems in our apartment, and rarely drops calls, so I am wondering whether the Vodafone network problems are magnified when using iPhones or Android phones; does anyone think that makes sense? Is it technically feasible?
I have called Vodafone Customer 'Care' on numerous occasions; I can't recall a more frustrating experience. I was passed from 'Customer Care' to 'Upgrades' to "Tech Support' repeatedly, each time I was told only another department could help me. The 2.5 hours I spent arguing with the sales rep in the Vodafone store saw me leave with a replacement phone, but of course that didn't solve any of the network problems.
Does anyone know where dissatisfied customers stand legally if they simply stop using the Vodafone network, and stop paying the monthly bill? As far as I can tell, Vodafone are not upholding their side of the contract, so does that give due cause to pull out?

3472 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is epic fail at 27 Dec 2010 04:14:01 PM
I got a 24 month contract on a phone that didn't work from day one, after taking it to the vodaphone shop many times to get fixed, I was told there was nothing wrong with it. It kept loosing reception, not receiving messages and glitching. After being frustrated for a year I went back another time and asked for an upgrade to add a new phone on my plan. I was told there was no such thing as an upgrade... so I left. Then a few months later I got a new plan with vodaphone (worst mistake) and I was told by the guy that he would never sell this phone to anyone.... funny that because he was the man who sold me the phone.... after a few months of having this new phone I was overcharged on my bill, so I called vodaphone only to speak to a man who asked me if i wanted an upgrade on my phone.... THE UPGRADE THAT DIDN"T EXIST IN THE FIRST PLACE, THE UPGRADE THAT COULD OF SAVED ME A NEW PLAN AND MY MONEY.

Im unfortunately on a locked in plan with Vodafone for another 12 months.I live in the metropolitan area in sight of a Telco tower but never get more than two bars on the signal strength. I regularly get the no service message and calls I receive, especially international always drop out. Interesting I have VOIP on my computer and those international calls never drop out.
3468 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Fail to the max. at 27 Dec 2010 04:13:49 PM
Me, my mum, and my stepdad are all on vodafone and we can NOT call each other when one of the person's in the call is at home. We live in balgowlah in sydney, central, in what should be perfect coverage, however we just get NO reception at our house. Mum and I can stand next to each other in the kitchen and try call each other and the call won't even go through. If someone is out and tries to ring one of us at home, it usually takes them a few 'call dropped's to get our phone to actually ring, and then if we don't run to the very few areas of the hosue where there is one bar of reception, we aren't able to make a decent phone call. I would understand if we lived way out in the bush that we would have dodgy recepction but in the middle of suburbia on sydnye's northern beaches is rifdiculous. Not to mention i can NEVER connect to the vodafone WAP while i amout and about in manly, balgowlah, and similar suburbs. its actually ridiculous how delayed our texts are to each other, and we now call the home phone and pay rather than try and actually get through on our mobiles to each other. Absolute joke
3467 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Super Fail at 27 Dec 2010 04:13:45 PM
Most people go on a cap to save a little money, but its seems Vodafone knows how to make you spend money. To have a 5 minute conversation in my house you have to make 5 calls, as there is never any reception in the house, and the phone always drops out. Nice to know they are charging a connection fee for every one of those 5 calls.
With a house hold of vodafone users, looks like vodafone will be loosing 5 loyal customers.

I was offered a broadband contract for Bathurst 18 months ago. After I signed up, I was then told the actual service would not start for 3 months. To date, I have never had broad band speeds. The usual connection speed is less than 2kbps.
As for phone coverage, often there is coverage, but no bandwidth so that the system is busy for hours.

My vodafone iPhone struggles to have one bar of range at home, despite the fact that I was assured that I lived in an in-range place in SA. On the occasions when I do have enough range to make a call or receive an incoming call, the phone almost always drops out whithin minutes of making a connection. When I spoke to store where I purchased my vodafone, they said it was most unusual and that they had not had any complaints from other clients! Clearly, this is not the case!!
Now that I am locked into a two year contract to have a phone that has no reception, what can I do?

Have come from the UK 3 months ago, where I was fine on my Vodafail contract. Signed up the wife and I for Vodafone when we got here, and was astounded to find that could not receive international SMS's despite signing up for that. Spent more than a considerable amount of HOURS attempting to get through, at first I was told the problem was with those overseas not Vodafone and the phone was put down on me. When called back again, after an hour I was told that there was a problem with 0426 codes and it would be dealt with in two weeks! No apology, no callback to advise when connected. This was two months ago. I still cannot receive international texts from everybody who has claimed they have attempted to send them. I cannot spend more and more time holding on for rude and disgraceful customer service. You are a total disgrace, and this is not what I signed up for.

It is rare for me to have reception. I get no reception at work. At home. At my parents'. In my yard. I'm lucky to get some reception if I wander around in the front yard. There is almost no point having this thing. Even if it were an emergency I don't think I'd be able to call for help.
And even though I paid my bill on time (on the due date) they still, 2 months in a row, charged me a payment dishonour fee of $16.50.
It's beyond a joke.

I have been a vodafone customer for about 5 years and never had too much of a problem with them. A few months ago when i moved to cairns my trouble started with Vodafone. I had no reception, after numerous phone calls, numerous hours at a time waiting for customer service and quite a few drop outs and i finally got a little compensation. I was also told the service would be better and if anything it has gotten worse!! I have tried to break out of my contract with them as they aren't providing a very good service as one of the major phone providers. I was told that i would have to pay!! HOw is that fair?? They are quite happy to take my money but can't seem to provide me with a decent service. I will quite happily tell people to reconsider choosing Vodafone as they are no where as good as what they used to be. It has gotten to a point that i have reception but no calls are coming thru to me! How ridiculous!!
