26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

19451 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is VERY UNHELPFUL at 16 Sep 2011 05:07:23 PM
I just attempted to call Vodafone with one objective - to cancel my mobile broadband contract which is past the 24 month period. After being on hold, then requesting to be called, I got a call back 5 minutes later.
After going through a few questions including being interrogated as to why I want to cancel my contract (I no longer need the service), he put me on hold, then told me that the cancellation department was experiencing system difficulties, and told me to call back in 24 hours. How is it possible that such a large sector of a telecommunications company can be 'down' - and down at the exact moment that I need them!! WHAT ARE THE ODDS.

I swear they are TRYING to make their customers hate them - whenever I call, they have some excuse as to why they can't do something simple for me. Last time it was to change my online password, and now to cancel my contract. AM I ASKING TOO MUCH!

I can't wait to be rid of them. They make everything so much harder than it should be.

Bought a broadband modem. Was told it can be unlocked for free after 6 months. Then when 6 months passed was told need to pay $25 to unlock it. Paid online but the UNLOCK CODE DOES NOT WORK!! Have talked to call centre, written to their tech people, no one is bothered. Not only was the original information misleading they have taken money and not provided the service. So difficult to contact them - everything goes to their idiotic all centre people who don't have a clue and keep send reobotic replies that do not address the problem!!

I bought a Voda SIM in the UK to use on my UK-Europe trip. Put 20 pounds on the phone in Italy, and it magically disappeared 2 days later although I only spent 4 pounds of it.
Rang Voda who confirmed that they didn't know where the credit had gone, and only gave me 10 pounds back.
I used 2 pounds (roaming internet) and lo and behold, all my credit magically disappeared.
Called Voda -again-, put on hold for 10 mins (paying roaming costs off my partner's phone as mine has no credit with which to call!), and told that the reason is still unknown to them and they won't give me any credit as it'll probably disappear again.
Refer my case to the faults team who might resolve in a couple of weeks but will be unable to call me as I'll be back in Aus by the time they fix it...
In the meantime I'm stranded with no map or internet or credit to call/text, and Voda refuse to help further.

FAIL.

19439 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Beyond comprehension at 15 Sep 2011 06:36:58 PM
I was made to migrate from Three to Vodofoney. Mobile broadband service: non existent. I call support, four times over 2 days, roughly 2 hours of hold music. The first three times, "Hello ... anyone there? I am sorry. I cannot hear you. We are experiencing technical difficulties. Please try again later." Finally get through. "Sorry our operating hours are 0800-2000." Time now 2030 (after roughly 1 hour of holding). Strange. Finally get a return call. The usual troubleshooting questions all of which I have already tried. My phone, laptop and phone on non vodafail network connect to the device via wifi. No internet. Last suggestion by operator, "Plug the pocket wifi modem into your laptop using the provided USB and see if connecting to the internet is okay." I hang up.
16 Sep 2011 06:20:18 AM: With all the bad experience people have with vodafone (and all the bad/fail news of vodafone), don't ever ever ever ever migrate to that provider. I was vodafone customer myself and then decided to migrated to 3 and when my contract ended (thanks God), will swith to other better provider 1000%.
Don't be tempted with all those false advertisement, sophisticated mobile etc. they just don't work.

Well i posted last week about my ongoing call drop outs, connection errors etc.

After 3 FAILED attempts at contacting Vodafail (they did not respond) I finally decided to contact the TIO. Surprise surprise, I was contacted by their "Customer Resolution Representative" within a few days.
And consumer power WINS! I have been released from the remaining 18 months of my 24 month contract, with NO EXIT FEES!!! So i'm porting my number back to Optus. I am returning my current crap phone (Nokia C7) back to Vodaphone free of charge, and I dont have to pay another cent!

I urge ALL of you to contact the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman, and you'll likely get the same result.

All I can say is I'm very happy with the end result :)

19431 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is They would fail at failing at 14 Sep 2011 05:41:54 PM
Where to start?

First they quote me a international data usage rate that is 100 times (not exaggerating) more than the data rate actually applied. Spent two weeks complaining to their call centre that there is a difference between 0.008c and $0.008 per kilobyte.

Went through the ombudsman and Vodafone finally reluctantly agreed that they made a mistake. I stated that after all the time wasted I wanted to cancel my contract without penalty. Was left a message to call them about this additional request and provided a number to one of their customer resolution team members. Every day for the last 2 weeks I call that number and am advised that this so called Sarah is on the phone. In total I have left 4 voicemails and 10 text messages. Have even gone through the pain of dealing with the call centre just so they can send an email to Sarah to call me... still nothing...vodafone sucks

19429 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is unlocking the mobile at 14 Sep 2011 01:36:04 PM
i just want to unlock my old phone,
*first i call voda and they said there is no one there in authority to give me the code and to do it online.
*i went online and typed in the imei number from the phone and a message saying "imei not found"
*i sent a message to voda (as it gave me the option) so they can investigate why that is etc.
*they sms'd me after 3weeks waiting saying to go online to voda website to unlock the phone
Here you are everyone, this just shows exactly what they do with problems. they dont read our situations, complaints etc. just send any template responses that is not relevant to the situation and hope you go away.
this phone is going straight to the rubbish bin!!
14 Sep 2011 08:39:11 PM: Have you tried posting on their community forum or on the facebook page? Sometimes that helps you get a better response. If that fails then you can always go to the TIO and they will get Vodafone to call you within 10days. It takes a bit of time but they will get it sorted.

I use a MacBook, and Firefox browser, with a frustrating issue with the pocketwifi mobile broadband.

Internet access to some sites (such as this one (but couldn't use the CAPTCHA so posted this at work), yahoo.com.au) are fine, but reported a problem on Thursday 08/09/2011 regarding access to a range of other sites e.g. www.google.com, www.gmail.com, www.myvodafone.com.au, www.bom.gov.au. Spent 30 mins on the phone and was advised the technical team was investigating with no estimated time to resolution, and to keep trying. Called Vodafone again on 12/09/2011, another 30 min call and got told the same thing, but other callers had lodged this issue with about 500 people affected. Requested them to post this issue on their outages page so people could be updated, and requested a called back when problem was resolved but was denied on both fronts.

They did offer some "consolation"... which was "credit" back for lost data but was advised I would have to call back to request it.

Why would I want to call back again after making two 30 mins calls already?

Vodafone, TERRIBLE customer service, and seem absolutely unwilling to take proactive steps to keep customers up to date on the situation. Regular updates and transparency should be a minimum if you can't provide satisfactory resolution in a timely manner. 5+ days is not good enough.
16 Sep 2011 06:23:10 AM: To tell the truth, i experience all of these before. call customer service is bloody useless and wasting of your valuable time. You need to spend at least an hour with 70% musics. terminate the contract if you can and insist that they can't provide the service and you have the right to terminate the contract. switch to other provider.

So i called vodafone to ask some questions about my bill...and we all know they have the "call back" feature...whereby instead of holding on to the phone while being placed on hold, they'll call you back when your call is ready to be taken...nifty idea i thought.....well it would have been if it was used properly!
So i decided to use this option, and was told by the bloody annoying automated message i'll get a call back in 2-5minutes.

I'm on a $49 cap with an extra 2 GB of data.
After 5 months on this contract I get my first bill for overusage of data.
I checked the data usage on the bill and I can clearly see a spike where
The data has jumped from 70 mb a day to between 220-340 mb a day.
And its continuing at the same rate. I absolutly have not used extra data
in this period. VF won't credit me or do anything. At the rate I'm going I will have used 9 gig in a month. What can I do? I need the internet on my phone.
Also my internet has decreased in quality often showing up problem with connectivity.
I need to leave ASAP.
16 Sep 2011 11:41:24 PM: I had the same thing happen to me for the first time ever in my contract, i never exceed my cap amount, did nothing different and then they tell me that i went over by 1500 dollars. i am in the process of fighting them about it based on my previous usage history. i am lodging a TIO complaint on monday if they dont sort it out.

Pretty much forget having a conversation from Parafield to Gawler - to many dropouts. No reception at home or office in Gawler. Limited reception along the Northern Expressway or Port Adelaide Expressway so cannot make calls. Very disappointed in service support. Rang a number of times over the past year and been told your area will be upgraded over the next 6 weeks - must be a directed response to customers. Have a prepaid through another telco and reception is good across all areas. On Vodafone contract at $200 per month and never gone over - probably because I am unable to make calls. Not Happy Jan!

19420 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is ID RATHER BE DIE THEN DIAL 000 FROM A VODAFONE ACTIVATE "FONE"/SIM at 12 Sep 2011 08:14:13 PM
I along with others had the same problem of droped calls/reception but chose to largely ignore them; in exchange for "unlimited" calls & text. Recently i sold/transferred my HTC desire HD to a friend since he was so keen on the fone and the plan i got was old school with extra GB data and i was paying out the phone for him; all for getting the galaxy s2. The port went across before i could apply for my 2nd service 10% discount. That made me :-( Ok so my fault; then i rand up for anything for members, was told i can't get 2nd service 1. Then i went in store see if they could match the online deal atleast as i liked the independant store i got my initial plan....he said he couldn't but he could still offer me an ok deal...so i tried online sales chick "Lauren" offered me 10% members discount...then i said ok look i'll tell dealer this and i'll ring you back; dealer told me i should just go for online deal...rang back the girl wasn't available...spoke to another guy who said oh it's a system trigered thing sorry you got told this...we can only offer you 1 month free, then i argued tooth and nail and finally after talking to his supervisor he offered me 2 months free; i agreed ...he then sent me an email with a credit check thing; so i sent my docuemtns back and ofcoure they failed me./ when i rang back to ask why./..they said i had to do a new credit check as i was now an NEW customer; not existing...and veda credit had a hit against my name and also i had made an application & it declined in the last 30 days...which is totally untrue. so i rang vereda credit or watever those useless uncontribuiting people to society are called; and they said ah no sorry we don't do vodafone checks...call them again and ask to clarify; so sure enough i rang back up and i was told...oh sorry the online application maybe was something in our system but no it's just this 1 application and dun & bradstreet sent us back a credit hit...and i am like ok and i was a customer of yours till 5 days ago and direct debited and not in arreas and now i am a NEW customer and you will take some report over keeping me as a customer and having my final payments cleared off...after numerous calls to numerous departments ofcourse these guys woldn't budge...most of the people are fine but in the end they are all robots to the system...i really hope all these people lose everything they have and default on every loan they have and then see how it's really like when u really default. i don't even know what that stupid credit hit is...could be 1 little personal paper bill unpaid from the 3 times i've moved in last 4-5 months building houses...but don't worry they've stuffed with the wrong guy they will get 0 from their outstanding balance and all this could've been avoided if someone from credit team gave me a call and understood the fact i am now having to wait 10 days to get a crappy report that states some measily 100-200 bucks was unpaid 4 months ago...in the meantime i can't port my old post paid number in my name coz i can't get service and i have to harass my friend (more like acquaintance) into porting this number to pre paid and then into my name which will take more time (oh and already it's taken them more then 7 days to port his 3 number to vodafone and it still hasn't been done) i think vodafone should get out of australia...and go back where it came from...if it wasn't for the infinite plans nobody should ever connect to them.
also their call centres staff 50% of the time can't understand things even when u spell them out...i would only recommend vodafone to a dead person.

19419 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Confusion at 12 Sep 2011 04:39:19 PM
This is the editorial from the Sydnet Morning Herald editorial regarding Vodafone and other telecommunications companies --

"Your call is important to us"

MARKETING researchers refer to a critical tipping point at which customers become sworn brand enemies, consumers so passionately enraged by service failure that they will bad-mouth a company at every opportunity and go out of their way to sabotage the business in any way they can.

The "Vodafail" website is, unfortunately, a good measure of the extraordinary level of customer rage among telecommunications consumers. The parody site offers dissatisfied customers a chance to share their pain - and compete for various dubious honours such at the longest time spent on hold (257 minutes continuously). The site was constructed by a frustrated customer during the time he wasted trying to resolve his problems with Vodafone, which makes an obvious point. Yet the telecommunications industry has been fully deregulated since 1997 and such competition is supposed to deliver price and service benefits. What has gone so wrong that more than 200,000 Australians complained to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman in 2009-10, double the number of complaints annually in the considerably larger British market?

First, Vodafone is no standout when it comes to poor service and confounding consumer information. It seems all telephone companies go out of their way to exploit the increasing complexity of telecommunications services to their advantage, making consumer choice virtually meaningless.

Take the so-called cap on which most mobile phone contracts are based. "Capped" means limited or shut off, and so implies a maximum payment. But in a phone contract a cap is a minimum payment. Go over the cap and call prices and data costs rocket.

One case highlighted in an Australian Communications and Media Authority inquiry, released last week, featured an overwhelmed father who was unable to determine when his daughter had reached her $129 cap and found himself facing a $4544.71 monthly bill. Research by the Brotherhood of St Laurence found that if the first 15 hours of mobile phone use cost $79 a month, the next 15 hours put the bill up to $889. Other consumers are paying too much for plans far above their usage. With smartphones and service "bundling", the market is just getting more complicated. The authority's proposal that ''cap'' and other misleading terms be banned and that the true, comparable cost of a two-minute call, for example, be disclosed makes good sense. It's up to the phone companies to turn their reputations and service levels around. It would be real failure of the market and the industry if regulators have to step in to clean up the mess.
13 Sep 2011 03:01:23 AM: "MARKETING researchers refer to a critical tipping point" .... Vodafone certainly managed to find it!
13 Sep 2011 08:49:49 AM: Yea the article makes a lot of really good points. They have so many ways of saying something is unlimited even though it has a limit. You have to be really diligent to work out when you are going over your cap and determine how much each call is costing.

Been hearing for sometime that Vodafone are fixing everything and it's all going to be great. Yet walking through the CBD in Australia's largest city, I can't make a phone call...

Pitt St, Sydney, is not exactly the Outback now is it Vodafone?

Ironically I was only making the call as 3G data was so slow I couldn't look up what I needed - yeah, Google searches are really taxing on the network.

Anyway, it seemed easier to phone a friend for the info, but Vodafone had me beaten there too.

Bring on contract expiry.
15 Sep 2011 12:25:45 PM: Contact the TIO, its so easy, just google them and enact a complaint online. I did this last week because of the same problems as you (I had 18 mths remaining on a 24 mth contract) and just yesterday, Vodaphone agreed to release me from my contract so i can port my phone number elsewhere without penalty fees. All i have to do is return my phone (which was crap anyway, so I'm more than happy to do that- and it was free so I havent lost any money)
Consumer power can work. make sure you contact Vodaphone first with your complaint- be polite in your emails to them- outline what the problem is/your disappointment with the service etc. If they fail to respond adequately within a week, then contact the TIO and enact a complaint. I am very happy with my outcome :)

I signed up a two years contract with vodaphone, it's a $59/month cap plan. The sales person told me that I have $350 credit each month to use, and I asked him if that includes international calls, he said 'Yes' and saying it's about $1/minute. My first month bill turned out to be over $170 because of extra international calls not covered in the plan while I was having almost $300 reminding in my credit. It's bullshit! I went to the store, and a different sale person saying the international call is not included, and ask me to check with customer service. Another time is when I went overseas and sent one email via my iPhone to Australia, and they charged me $83 for that message and wouldn't explain to me why it costs that much. The reception is the worst mobile reception I ever experienced, my company located very close to sydney CBD, and many times I don't even have one bar of signal, and whoever I called get cut off within 30 seconds. The customer service is confusing and not professional neither. I called this month to finally terminate my two years contract, and they kept asking me if I want a new plan or transfer my loyalty to my friends, and why I don't want to continue my contract. The reception was so bad I cann't even hear her voice properly on the phone, it was quite ironic! I was very upset and became quite angry, I said to her ' I don't want your new plan or any other services, I just glad this one is finished and I don't want to continue because I don't like your services at all.' I just so happy now that my contract is finally over, and I don't need to deal with Vadaphone ever again, the worst company ever!!!!!

19414 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is pocket wifi is rubbish at 11 Sep 2011 10:28:12 PM
Iam located in Burwood Vic 3125. Have not had mobile internet since 6/9/11. Its now 11/9/11 and still no service. On the phone with customer service 3 times for a duration of 30 minutes at any given time. After all that and 3 phone calls later I am informed that there are network upgrades for pocket wifi service! During upgrades customers in my area will experience problems with this service. I was told that the time frame is indefinite for my service to be reinstated?! I was told to keep trying the service daily to see if my service comes back on. Cancelled my pocket wifi service as
of 11/9/11. Not good enough vodafone. I have a business to run! Signed up to a naked adsl service with iinet with a modem/router. Despite the great deal with iinet I am still out of pocket because of voda. I changed my mobile service from voda to Telstra and havnt looked back since and have been very happy despite Telstra being more expensive. Vodafone you are failing your customers rapidly! Get your act together! Telecomunictions giants can go broke too!

19412 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Worst Customer Service EVER! at 11 Sep 2011 09:21:05 AM
Yesterday I decided to update my mobile phone from vodafone to another service provider. I've been having problems with my phone since I got it and was told there was nothing I could do about. I've also had problems where vodafone have completely forgotten to send me bills. But I've just sucked it up and waited till my contract was up. Yesterday I was told that to switch from vodafone to another provider I needed my account number from vodafone. I was told that I could just walk into a vodafone store and they could just write it down for me since I didn't have a bill on me. I walked into the store and was told that I had to call customer care myself to get the account number. The staff in the store were not busy, the few customers in the store were all being looked after. And they had 5 staff members on and could have spent the 30 seconds looking it up on the computer, but i didn't question it and I thought whatever I'll call 1555. Luckily I only waited two minutes to speak to someone, but when I asked for my account number they refused to give it to me. They asked me why I needed it, I told them it was for business. Like I need to give a reason - it's my business.
They put me on hold, a minute later came back and told me they were putting me on to their supervisor. I was put back on hold, finally someone came on and again I asked for my account number. This went on for about 5 minutes. They were stalling and refusing to give it to me. I was trying to be polite, but I was so frustrated by this point. All I wanted was my account number - I couldn't believe how hard it was to just tell me. When I explained again that I needed it for business, that I was moving to another network they reluctantly agreed to give it to me if I would stay on the phone for another two minutes afterwards to go over a new plan or network problems. The person finally gave me my account number and I repeated it to confirm. They then started to go into their spiel to keep me on the network so I quickly interrupted and thanked the person and then hung up before they could say anything else. WORD TO THE WISE: because I was very unwise, If you need to change service providers, take a bill with you so you already have YOUR information on you and don't have to deal with vodahell!
11 Sep 2011 11:00:24 AM: I am having this same problem porting to another provider...seems I am not the only one being told by Vodaphone to "port" elswhere.... where do they get the right to order this action.....
11 Sep 2011 09:50:27 PM: From the UK, SAME BLOODY PROBLEM! The staff even went to the extent of accusing me of racism when I complained about their call centres in India & Egypt being ineffective! I lost a family member in a tragic loss and no one was able to contact me because VODAF&(* wasn't providing the services they should be. Just spent an hour on the phone with them, my Sunday morning is ruined and SO UPSET! Can we please do something about this? Is their any one that can help??? Frustrated to the point where a grown man may cry!
12 Sep 2011 01:25:14 PM: Hello,

I used to work in a "Port-In Department" for a DIFFERENT service provider - definitely not VODAFONE, and in case a customer would like to transfer a number that they used to have from their original service provider - and in situations wherein we already have the customer in our line, but doesn't have the Billing Account Number - we normally initiate a call out to their service provider. Explaining the situation and what we need from them. As long as the number pass "eligibility for transfer" the original service provider should (at all times) provide us the account number (provided that I/we can verify the account from them - the PIN/Password or even the last four of the SSN on the original account) this is actually something that FCC allows, since that information in needed in order for the number to be switched to a new carrier.

But you are also right. As long as you have a print out of your billing statement then there must be no problem locating that in the bill itself. That information is normally supplied in the print out.

But just to clarify one thing. Please remember that NOT all numbers from your original service provider can be transferred to a new carrier. That is why we always perform - Number Eligibility Check. For example your number with Vodafone is 111-222-3333 and you wish to use that number with the other service provider, as long as the number is eligible to be transferred over then you're good. But let's say the new carrier supports 111 as the area code, but then doesn't support the prefix or the rest of the numbers then unfortunately the request will not push through as the system won't allow us to submit the ticket for the number to be carried over.

14 Sep 2011 01:21:28 AM: I am from australia; point isn't if the call centres are in india, phillipines, or monaco....they under pay those people, train them to scripts and they don't understand the same way people from the same language talk...if you can't afford to be here and hire local people for customer service **FU*K off from here
16 Sep 2011 06:16:23 AM: I don't think you need account number. You just need your existing mobile number to transfer to another provider. Make sure you have ended your contract with "vodafaulty".

11 Sep 2011 04:30:16 PM: How much did Vodafone pay you to spam a 'complaints' page. Loser!
11 Sep 2011 09:40:06 PM: Walk down the road and tell us how good the coverage is haha, from "cracking" to nothing.
11 Sep 2011 10:53:25 PM: $10 aye, sounds like the employees discount!
13 Sep 2011 08:18:13 PM: acctually 2gb mobile broadband with vodafone is $10 go check out there page
14 Sep 2011 06:26:31 AM: Reading some of the replies it's funny how some people always look at the bad side of everything and put down everyone and anyone. I wonder if if they have any love for anything or do they sit at home without love. So I will say I love VODAFONE and I'm on a great mobile deal. I'll say it again $10 for 2gb data, now that's cracking : )

19408 Someone from Somewhere else thinks vodafone is Vodafone is a USELESS Internet "service" provider at 10 Sep 2011 04:58:48 PM
At the start of August 2011, Vodafone NZ screwed up their outgoing email server. About 80% of emails were simply being bounced without any attempt at being sent by their server with an error message because it thought they were spam. After a week and a half someone finally deigned to "fix" the problem. Apparently the fools had set the spam filter too high and the server was simply rejecting messages.

The following week international access to websites was broken, with website requests were taking three minutes or more to be acknowledged and start loading. Yet another week and a half before anyone at Vodafone bothered to look into it and fix it.

Then the outgoing email server screwed up again and bounced most emails as spam. After another week of "looking into it" this problem has SUPPOSEDLY now been "fixed" ... but instead of bouncing emails with an error message, the outgoing emails are now simply being deleted and never arrive at their recipient!

You try to post messages on their forum letting them know there are problems, and your messages are either deleted, hidden or you're told this isn't the right place ... and even worse, my account with the forum has been completely blocked!!

VODAFONE IS COMPETLEY AND UTTERLY HOPELESS!!!!! Xo(
They don't have any ability whatsoever to actually run an ISP and have absolutely no idea what "customer service" is.

Vodafone is the BIGGEST joke of an Internet provider in New Zealand!!

19406 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is NO Reception at 10 Sep 2011 02:15:42 PM
Today 10th September 2011...I have had NO reception since Wednesday 7th September 2011. 3 DAYS!!! I can not get a reasonable answer from Customer Call Centre (Mumbai) I can not access my Vodafone account via Internet because for some reason my sign-in details won't work. WHY is it sooo difficult to get a straight answer??
If I have a power outage, I simply ring the supplier and can receive an answer straight away. Can Vodafone do that?? NO WAY!!
PLEASE explain this problem. I live in Ballina NSW postcode 2478. Other areas around here eg: Lismore, Casino all have "normal" reception.
12 Sep 2011 10:02:49 AM: I live in Newrybar (postcode 2479), not far from Ballina and for the last 10 days have been experiencing similar issues to you. I have a Vodafone moblie broadband connection that is averaging download speeds of 0.10- 0.20Mbps or no connection at all. Interestingly most speed tests I have conducted over the last week show that my upload speed is on average 3-4 times faster than the download speeds (my last speed test shows download 0.14Mbps and upload 0.63Mbps. I should point out that I can see the tower from my house and have had great coverage at full signal strength for the last 2 years, so I know something is not working properly. I have spent over 3 hours on the phone to Vodafone over the last week, testing and trouble shooting. My complaint was passed to Network Services who rang me Friday to advise that it was due to a software upgrade to the towers and that my speeds should increase and return to normal over 7 days. 3 Days later there is NO improvement to the speeds. So I call Vodafone again today and tell them the same, only to be told that all that can be done is for them to pass my complaint to Network services!!!! It's already been there and all they did was fob me off with the network software update BS. Lucky for me, I am out of contract with them so I am free to leave.

$500 charge for internet usage. No change on my usage and usually only use about max 1g on a 4gig plan. had 5 gig used. Worked out it was the network failing and as such when I was dowlaoding fiel to my drop bos it would fail on 90% of dowload and restart again. Took all day to download the file of approx 100meg and as such due to network failure I was charged.
I will give you 25% discount sir for I stuff up, yea thanks for nothing.

19400 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is 10 at 9 Sep 2011 02:39:27 PM
Luckily enough this problem hasn't caused me any big issues, but I paid for something that I never received.
I had gone on a contract last year in September, unlimited calls to ANYONE in Australia, and unlimited pxt and sms. I had asked extensively about unlimited calls to anyone because it sounded too good to be true, but for $80 a month i figured it was worth it. The guys at the store had convinced me that I could call anyone, and I changed from my optus account to Vodafone.
I recently went onto the vodafone website to check up on some details and found that I only have unlimited calls available to vodafone and 3.
Called customer service and he confirmed that, as well as saying that there was no unlimited deals like that available in september, only in december.
I'll be taking this further...

I was $300 over even though I was advertised and repeatedly told that i was on an UNLIMITED cap. the staff were extremely inconsiderate and i had to talk to three separate people to get an understanding - before I had to pay it all out plus un unlocking fee so i could call, text, and use the internet. lets see how i go through the next 23 months with a voda contract..

Hardly ever get good reception. I dont think i have made or received a phone call that doesnt cut out, and i have to call the person back. The hardest to deal with is my buisness. My mobile is my buisness line, and because of the disguisting shocking reception, there are many times customers have not been able to get in contact with me. I have lost customers because they have accussed me of being rude and hanging up on them. They dont understand that i am having reception problems. My husband is with telstra and he never has a problem. Where i get 1 bar of reception he will most likely have 4 or more bars. There are a few areas around where we live where my husband will get only 1 bar, but my phone goes off line, shows no reception. This is very frustrating and upsetting. I need good reception in order to run a successful buisness, and voda phone is hurting me, costing me time and money...Please help me!
9 Sep 2011 08:43:37 AM: We'd recommend that you follow the steps on the 'how to complain' page. First talk to Vodafone about the problems and think about how you'd like the problem solved. Vodafone is upgrading their network but if it's not helping you then you might want to get out of your contract and move somewhere else. If Vodafone doesn't want to help with that then you can make a complaint with the TIO and Vodafone start listening.

After 9 calls managed to get 1 order cancelled. 17 calls to discover the 2nd order is not arriving within 2-4 working days as promised, before I went on holiday, but 10 workings days later. So its arrived, I'm out of AUS, and I no longer want it. I have a bad feeling about this iphone and getting tied into a contract after so many calls. So arranged to handset delivered back to store. So 2 visits later, the handset still can't be officially given back. The computer lines are down...again...... Hopefull visit #3 tonight will be successful for my poor friend & delivery person. After working at Vodafone I'm shocked at how bad things have got. They need to up the ante very very soon.

19387 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is False advertising at 8 Sep 2011 11:33:39 AM
Ok, so got a e-mail from 3 a few months ago saying they would wave my last few months contract if i signed up to a new vodafail plan. Called the number, and asked to be put on a 45 infinite plan (but with 1GB of data cause the GF has it) they said we cant offer you a lower plan then what you are on already (49 iPhone cap) so i say "ok, ill wait till im out of contract" on the 30/8/11 I signed up online for a SIM Only Infinite 45 plan. Website shows that it's come's with 1.5GB Data, Infinite txt/calls blah blah. Fine print says "extra 1gb promotion will continue till the 30th November 2011" so I add to cart, confirm sale all the time checking it still say 1.5GB. A week later (after Aust air post sent my order back to vodafail, Couldn't find address? Bull!) I sorted it out in store and collected my sim, paid my first bill and ported my number. Signed up for My Vodafone and checked my entitlements and data say "500mb". So I call vodafail...

1st Call: I try to explain the details and female (Indian) just repeats "No, that plan only comes with 500MB" no matter what I tell her, she is not listening. I tell her to check the website, she says "I don't need to, I know what it comes with" I hang up and double check online to make sure I'm 100% with the details... And I am.

2nd Call: Speak to another Indian male who double checks the website and says "ok, let me put you on hold..." 20 min later he returns and says "ok sir, I have confirmed that the website is wrong and you are not entitled to anything more then 500MB" after I explaining how ridiculous this is and the BS I have already been through he just repeats the same as above so I ask to talk to someone higher up...

On hold again...

5min later I'm talking to a manager who again repeats the above statement... I'm starting to get angry by this point so I inform them that it is false advertising and breech of contract blah blah... So the manager says "The best I can do is give it to you for 6 months after that you can cancel or pay..." I say this is BS, im not paying for something that was included in the plan I signed up for. Manager repeats himself again... (This is going nowhere) so I inform him I will be speaking to consumer affairs and discussing my rights in this situation. I hang up as the manager try's to keep me talking on the phone. I call consumer affairs who tell me it's false advertising at least and put me on to the ombudsman, I make a complaint. Now waiting to hear back from Vodafail... All this BS over 1GB of data!!!

19386 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is The worst - how to get 50% your bill for the next three months by complaining at 8 Sep 2011 06:32:55 AM
I have been so hacked off with the terrible serviec, dropped calls and slow internet I phoned up complaining on Monday. They offered me 25% my bill for the next three months. I said that's not good enough and after more wrangling I got 50% off for the next three months. I accepted but the next day I got quite annoyed with the service again and phoned up to cancel my contract. I am 5 months away from the end of my contract but told them under no certain terms that they were going to terminated my contract for free, allow me to keep my iPhone which is under contract and allow me to port my number. They tried everything in the book to keep me but I just stuck at it. The call did drop twice during all this due to the crap service and had to repeat my demands. I passed this onto several people I know and they have successfully done the same. As soon as I got out of my contract I went to Telstra and handed them the porting account number and within 10 minutes my number was ported and working on a $49 plan and 1.5Gb data which is much better than the $79 plan I was on.

Give it a go and persevere. They will try everything to keep you but I told them they could offer me a Ferrari and a trip around the world but all I wanted was a phone service that WORKED.

Hey guys, I moved from 3 to Vodafone and because 3 is so completely terrible I've actually had fine reception & no dropped calls. Great.
HOWEVER, today I received a $900 bill for the last 3 weeks due to 'data over use' although there has been no change to my use of data.
They claim that the 8 hour data download charges starting while i'm asleep at midnight are my own fault because I didn't shut down my applications. No warning of the overuse, not notification of the phone shut down, i'm not even at the end of the billing cycle & the phone isn't overdue. Surely this isn't okay?

How annoying. This has been the second time in two months Vodafone has cancelled my picture messaging services. I was under the impression my messages were sent to my friends, only to receive messages from them asking why they had to download them off the internet and some bull like that.

I've taken my phone to the Vodafone store demanding to know what this and they told me that "oh sorry, your picture messaging service was cancelled". Did I ever ask for it to be cancelled? NO. And when I ask them why they can't give me an answer.

This is ridiculous. How can Vodafone get away with cancelling services without informing the customer?

19370 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is where I come from, we call that pathetic at 6 Sep 2011 11:14:19 AM
This morning, I was awoken by a text message alerting me to the fact that my current months bill was in excess of $1700, and that I should call an unfamiliar customer service number immediately to avoid account suspension. Since my billing cycle only started a couple days ago, and I have recently been checking my usage every night, I was very surprised that I could have gone over, when last night there were no excess charges. Having googled the provided customer service number and finding no relevant result I began to suspect a scam, and very warily logged into myvodafone.com to examine my usage. The resultant page explained:

Sorry for the inconvenience
- There has been a communication problem and your request has not been processed. Please try again later.

No matter how many times I tried reloading, I was taken to the same message. When I viewed my account summary, the only page I could successfully load, the Amount owing was more than $1900, and there was still no way to see the description of charges. So I called vodafone, (the regular customer service number, not the one included in the text) and asked many questions regarding the charges on my account. I was told that there were currently issues in their system, and they would not be able to look into my account details. The nice woman then told me to wait 24 hours and call back. As I was quite distressed that my account might be suspended, I told her that I did not feel comfortable waiting around for a full day, at which point she told me to call back in three hours, and the problem should be fixed... (It wasn't)

I am hoping that my account is experiencing the same glitch that the call center is having, and when I wake up tomorrow, this will all have been a dream. Sadly, having found his site and read a few stories that sound closely akin to my own, I feel I may be in for the long haul, and will no doubt lose a considerable balance from my bank account.

Cheers, thanks for listening to a vent.

19366 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Extreme Fail at 5 Sep 2011 08:57:12 PM
My modem isn't working, but they refused to send me a replacement, and instead told me to get my computer fixed. I've had several people look over my laptop (including a bloke from Apple) and say there is nothing wrong. Considering vodafone keeps telling me i should reset my modem and the modem won't even reset, i guess its obvious where the problem lies. But they wont send me a new modem. So i asked to cancel my contract - they tried to charge me 359 bucks to cancel. Why do i have to pay over something that is broken? then when i said i wasn't paying that money, they told me that they would send me to debt collectors. I'm still in shock that a simple request for a new modem turned into their service staff telling me that i'd be put into debt collections over a cancellation fee (and note, that is ONLY for the fee - my account is paid and is always up to date!)
6 Sep 2011 01:23:28 PM: WOW! Talk about customer care robots, they are clearly working from cheat sheets for what to do. Derp you're locked into a contract. Derp! Cancellations Fee's apply for early termination of this contract Derp! We dont take any notice or consideration of extenuating circumstances! We read from a sheet. P.S Check your APN settings are correct so that the modem can connect to vodafone's network, also remember that APN settings are different for pre paid and post paid sim cards. You can obtain APN settings from Vodafone's website, also Vodafone employees sometimes have that knowledge themselves.
Hope it gets resolved for you :)

Just received a text message telling me I have spent $580 on usage not covered by my plan, I call them up to ask why I have no notification of this excess usage (1.2gb)and they tell me they have no obligation to tell me when I exceed my data usage.
Yet clearly they do, when it gets up to $580, not $200, not $300, not $400, not even up to $500, they waited till $580.
They tell me that they can now set alerts that will tell me when I am spending alot on my usage and I ask why this isn't a standard setting that EVERYONE would want, apparently they did use to send messages informing people of their usage, but apparently people complained so they stopped???
Anybody else been in this situation, do I have room for dispute being I never agreed to stop receiving these alerts ?
5 Sep 2011 08:31:26 PM: Yea you are able to dispute it as you weren't aware that you wouldn't receive a warning SMS when you came close to going over your limit. If Vodafone isn't going to sort it out then you can go to the TIO and they will force Vodafone to take it more seriously.

I transferred some business services from Telstra. To date I have been put on the wrong plan, numbers have not been ported and I have been run round and round trying to get the problem resolved. The problem appears to be the call centre(s) with calls terminating, poor call quality and language problems. I have been subjected to multiple failed transfers. Fortunately having failed to port the services means I still have reliable service albeit not the one I am paying for.

19363 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is poor signal at 5 Sep 2011 03:37:24 PM
6169 post code Shoalwater WA signal has become increasingly poor over the last few months to the extent that maximum in our house is one bar and about 100 mts down the street you will get two . It has always sometimes been a bit of a problem even before 3G but you could usually find a spot by roaming around somewhere within our household vacinity . Considered getting rid of our landline but glad I didn,t as thats all we can use in our house at the moment however its quite costly when you are paying for an Infinate Vodafone plan and also landline costs . I have an iphone 4 which has always been worse than the rest of our family Nokias but these are now having the same problem so can,t blame the phones . Tried friends iphone 4 in our house with Telstra and she had four bar signal next to my one .Have been a loyal Vodafone customer for twelve years and have no complaints with their customer service staff on the phone and their stores have always been helpful . I have read all the blurp on Vodafone website and seems they are making every effort to fix this and after my complaint have given a 25 % discount off our three accounts for all of us this month so they are trying . Website states they are doing up grades in the Shoalwater area by September and I was just told on their customer care line to wait until end of September as this should fix the problem . I sure hope so as I don,t want to have to go to Telstra it is such a shame that all this is happening . Looks like Telstra is going to end up with a monopoly again then prices will soar with no competition . My husbands plan is up in November so he will have to switch to another network if nothing improves but rest of family are only 9 months into 24 month contracts so will be getting advise as to how we can get out of these if Vodafone don,t manage to fix this

Its just been in the last week or two that my service with Vodofpne has become really bad. I live in Baldivis WA and have had my iphone4 for quite a few months now and up until now, have really had no trouble!
It seems to just cut in an out all of the time and the person on the other end describes it as I am sounding like a robot.
Has anyone that use to have decent Vodafone service in this area, having the same trouble as I am?
6 Sep 2011 10:31:36 PM: I live in Baldivis also and have iPhone 4. Have had no trouble at all with Vodafone but find best reception achieved if I turn off 3G. Usually only get one or two bars of reception with 3G on but get full bars with 3G off. Have never had any problems with calls or txts so guessing I am fortunate compared to all the problems others seem to be having with Vodafone. Really bizare how some people have all these issues with Vodafone and others don't. Hopefully the upgrades will fix all this. Good luck.

My husband and I were long standing 3 customers. We received a text offer us to swap to Vodafone and receive iphone 4's. Phoned Vodafone to take up offer and was told reception in our home area of Park Ridge South Qld was fine. So proceeded with sign over. Received phones and set-up only to find out reception crap inside our house to the point of no internet connection and call drop outs. My sisters old mobile phone, a Nokia 6300, around 3 years old.
I went to the vodafone website to get the unlock pin so i can sell it on ebay.
My sister must have had like $1000 of recharge credits over her use of the phone and yet vodafone wants us to pay $25 to get a unlock key number code.
Optus on the other hand use to be (prob still is), once you recharge a certain amount, your able to get the phone unlocked for free, but here after 3yrs still not good enough.
Looks like rubbish time for the phone, such a waste as it still works great.
My other phone, i typed in the IMEI number and this message comes up: "Handset Unlock - Handset IMEI Not Found"
So 1 handset cant be found in their system, the other needs a $25fee which is more then the phone is worth.
Here come the question, WHAT IS LEGALLY YOURS!! you've paid for it over its life span and yet you cant own it fully unless you again pay them bastards.

19354 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is very angry with Vodafone for being inflexible at 3 Sep 2011 02:01:02 PM
VODAFONE IS UNREASONABLE AND VODAFONE EMPLOYEES LIE

My husband drove off for coverage of a significant lifetime event to a very new address in a very new suburb, not findable in either the Melways or Google Maps. The client was to call him on his Vodafone.

When I rang to check the number said "incoming call restrictions"

This was a surprise as we had topped up the day before - perhaps someone had made an error.

I rang to see if Vodafone could help.. I was told (after 45 minutes of constant effort with Dilip who kept repeating that he couldnt help me because I didnt know my husbands PIN) that he couldnt help. I asked for some other way to identify the account.. by say repeating details that only we would know or by other identifying details.. no such luck. I offered to pay more money if somehow the bill was in error anyway.

Dilip kept saying that

a) there were no supervisors working on Saturdays

b) he was a supervisor

c) he was a manager

d) he was the floor supervisor

e) all the supervisors were too busy

f) if I wanted to talk to a supervisor I would have to wait

all of these responses were repeated despite their contradictory nature, and despite my insistence that our need was urgent, and that if our client couldn't contact my husband then our small family business could lose a very very significant sum of money, due to not being contactable, or significant delays in a fast moving event.

I have two major gripes.

a) I wish Vodafone employees would not lie when someone wants to go to through to a supervisor.

b) Vodafone needs to have some way of bypassing the PIN in the case of real necessity such as being flexible about other identifying methods

They also removed my Vodafone facebook post.. how on earth do you get to talk to them in a hurry?

What is the point of having a mobile if you cant use it when it really matters!!
4 Sep 2011 02:15:40 PM: There is no doubt that Vodafone employees lie.

For 2 years I have been fighting with Vodaphone over their absolutely poor service.. I have been in discussions with their resolutions and the TIO...although I got a large credit, I have been addressing the issue and found that Vodaphone is solely at fault. Recently because I asked the TIO to review it, I was told by Vodaphone to "port" my services elsewhere. Today I received an e-mail suggesting that I harrassed resolutions. Not the fact (PERSONAL DETAILS REMOVED) but more the fact that Vodaphone have been caught out ripping people off.My internet is already ported to iinet. My mobile is following. I suggest that anyone wanting great service and people who go out of their way to help a customer, then iinet is the one. I trialed their system for 3 months before deciding and it was great. Since porting my net 3 days ago. I have had 6 e-mails making sure everything is fine. As for Vodafail, time to show them customer power.

Furthermore, I cant even get through to Vodafone's Customer Support and Complaint Centres via my Mobile (It won't let me make the call let alone wait in queue).

UPGRADE YOUR PHONE PLANS, NOT DOWNGRADE' with an arrogant manner. After hearing
the story of my friend, he blushed and ticked over 'sorry under certain conditions we may allow customer to downgrade, but you need to sign a new plan
with us and there may be some surcharge...' BULLLLLLSHIIIIIIIIT! WHAT A FAIL!!

15 Sep 2011 02:31:28 AM: The iPhone is free on a $79cap, but $10 extra on a $59cap. Therefore you cannot downgrade your plan (as this would result in you paying nothing for the iPhone on a cap which generally has an installment cost). Only in an instance where the installment pricing is the same on the downgraded plan, may you do so.

Sorry mate, you aren't above company policy and basic logic. Get over it.

This is my firs post here however I should have made a move earlier!
Last December I had finally had it with no reception and dropped calls every though I live 2kms from Perth CBD! I was paying $90 a month for a ridiclous plan with a terrible handset and not getting the service I was so loyally paying for.
I called Vodafone and asked them to have my area tested for reception and heard nothing for 5 days. I then called them back and was informed that they could not offer my reception in my area so I could now exit my contract (which has 12 months left) at no charge to me.
My boyfriend was with Vodafone as well and after a second area test and another weeks wait, they came to the same arrangement.
I posted our phones back to these idiots and and they allowed us to port both our numbers to Optus no problems at all.
SIX MONTHS LATER I receive a phone call from NRG GLOBAL SOLUTIONS asking me how I would like to pay my $1000 phone bill for early exit of my account! I cant even believe my ears. Just when I thought they were out of my life they are still trying to suck every dollar out of me. I call Vodafone and they tell me the account is closed and there is no payment owing. I tell this to NRG yet they insist I send them an email outling this so I do.
THREE MONTHS LATER I get a call from them again. I tell them to SPEAK TO VODAFONE. They said they will not and that I need to speak to them and then get a reference number for payment and give it to them.
This is still un resolved and dirving me absolutley insane! I cant believe what a joke this has become - all because I just wanted to get what I was PAYING for!!!!!!
I work in law and legal action seems to be a good option at this stage...
