Dear visitor,
Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant
contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced
by Vodafone customers.
Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders.
You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.
Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.
More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly.
Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints.
The site will remain online for as long as possible as a
reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.
It has been a privilege to run this initiative
and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In
particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their
continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.
You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.
Until next time,
Adam Brimo

I have consistently not been able to make or receive calls either at home or work in Canberra - with about a twenty minute drive between the two of them.
Called VodaFail on 22/12, told them I was signing up to a new plan that afternoon as I couldn't handle not having reception until after Christmas and was told they would call me back in 3 days to discuss getting out of my contract, on the alternate number I provided them with.
4/1 - they called me back on my vodafone number - not the alt. number that I told them to call given that I couldn't receive calls on my vodafail number. Now I've been told I need to wait on hold for over 30 minutes or wait for them to call me back in half an hour - most likely to have nothing fixed again.
And they're half an hour call back time is laughable - last time it was closer to three hours!

Ive been with Vodafone for years. But lately I can't even make a call in my lounge room. I walk around the house like an idiot trying to get reception. I live in albury/Wodonga. Population about 100,000.
Very frustrating. Annoyed that I'm in a contract.

Bad coverage, drop outs, unable to use the internet to check anything, the customer service used to get street directions (when unable to access google maps due to connection issues) costs an absolute fortune and even then the directions, are at best, completely unable to be deciphered. Angry customer here, what a waste of money!!!!!!!! The only reason i'm still with them is because I am on a contract. The worst bit is that my handset sucks....i called to buy an iphone and got COMPLETELY talked out of it and into a Samsung Jet because iphones were out of stock. The sales guy totally sucked me in. UNHAPPY!!!

i first had problems with service in march 2010. when i rang them and reported the problem i was connected to an overseas operator that had no comprehension of the problem and told me that vodafone were experiencing problems with an under sea(water) cable that had been cut. I was baffled with how an undersea cable had anything to do with a domestic mobile service. I am now quite irrate as i have been on the phone for approx 50 minutes and was paying wages for someone to cover for me while i am trying to sort out this mess, My phone is used for business and because i have no reception i have to ring vodafone from a land line, i demand to speak with a supervisor. this is not granted and i am told that the problem would be solved in a couple of weeks. with this i now ring and put in a formal complaint with the telecommunication ombudsman's office. The girl there was in disbelief when i told her the excuse made by vodafone. and recorded the complaint. within an hour i had vodafone call me and confirm that they were over loaded and had to reroute calls through different towers to keep up with demand. I told them that this is not acceptable with terms of the contract that i had signed and that they were in breach of contract and would seek legal advise over the matter. instantly i was told i would not be billed for the previous month or the current month.
now for payback. my business sells phone credit and i had informed them that i was sick of customers complaining about poor reception so i did what i thought any person would do and started handing out the ombudsman's number and encouraging people to register formal complaints

I signed up for a two year contract with vodafone, consequently paying for a phone I can hardly use. Every call drops out at some point. If a am lucky to get a few minutes of call time, the reception breaks up so it's nearly impossible to have a conversation. Crazy Johns showed me the vodfone coverage map and told me I would have 'no problem'. I could hardly use my phone between Adelaide and Queensland (even though we stayed on main highways); nothing in Coffs Harbour; and the Gold Coast coverage is dreadful.
10838 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is a Massive Fail at 6 Jan 2011 09:07:26 AM
I have been a Vodafone customer for over 10 years. I never had this much problems, the last few months have been plagued with dropped calls, no data connections. The area where I live (Hurstville) seem to be a massive black spot! even GPRS data converage is minimal and even that keeps dropping out.
Similar things happen in North Sydney and that area has one of the best coverage from my experience.
I have to constantly turn off Data connection and turn it on again to re-established connection and that's no guarantee that the connection will hold.
Disappointed!
Will be moving to Optus if these issues are not fixed soon!

After getting a call from Vodafone for our business mobile saying we can save you $40 a month we changed 23/12/10 that even took a while. We have no reception in our house which being a small business the calls are made from little else in the rural areas! It has has taken hours & days speaking to many different people only to be told the mobile is not listed under business & you go to the bottom of the que again. Finally today they ahave raised a trouble ticket and someone will call us Monday!!! So much for small business people trying to make a living.

I shot a video about Vodafone's performance is an average situation.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FY2Hf44LOoc
My story: I signed up for Vodafone about 18 months ago because my girlfriend was a big fan and we both got the $69 iPhone 3g plan when it became available.
We lived in Randwick (6km from the CDB) but we had problems with the coverage straight from the beginning. Basically I couldn't make a call inside my apartment without a dropped calls. As for using the internet it was constantly changing from 3 bars through GPRS (2.5G) to No service and back.
Back than I was a student and I didn't use the phone too much at home so it was fine, however I noticed it was gradually becoming less reliable and slower and slower to a point when when the internet totally become unusable at peak times.
My girlfriend decided to quit her contract she contacted Vodafone 4-5 times waiting someone from customer service to answer the phone for hours. At the end Vodafone let her go so now she is with Telstra. You cannot compare the the quality of the two services. No drop calls, customer service in 3 minutes, internet is about 10x faster download and 30x faster upload speeds.
I often have to use her phone to look things up and make calls.
Disclaimer: I used to be a Vodafone employee in Europe working for the network support team. While I was there Vodafone did exactly the same, it offered unlimited GPRS internet for cheap. Within 2 months the data service was unusable. The funny thing is most of us didn't have phones with GPRS, so we couldn't test it on the field.
I guess it is the same here. I suppose most Vodafone employees have blackberries. They are also located in Chatswood where I guess coverage and the 3G performance is great.

10833 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is How fail was George Bush? at 6 Jan 2011 08:51:48 AM
Ive woken up today to call barring on my phone. 2 weeks ago i recieved a reminder text from Vodafail advising that my bill was over due and paid the full amount requested. After 6 attempts with 'Lara' to contact a person ( no matter what option I chose after saying call barring I was referred to making a payment ) I spoke with another inept Indian who informed me that the payment had been recieved but that the amount that vodafone originally requested was incorrect and that their is currently $118.64 overdue. This number sounded familiar so while on the line I checked my current bill - $118.64 and due in 5 DAYS! When I tried to explain to this to the call centre operator he just could not grasp the concept. When I asked him to explain why, when he can confirm that the amount that was overdue he agrees has been paid, my phone still has barring activated the only response i can get out of him was that ' the 118.64 must be paid in full before the barring can be lifted.' When I asked to speak to a supevisor he informed me that there was no need as he was equipped to handle my query. When I explained to him that he wasnt he told me that I could either pay the bill or call back and speak to customer service - and wait in line again. I will not be paying this bill and I will certainly be trying to recoup some of the money I have paid over the last month for access to a network that barely has coverage and even then rarely makes it through a call. Screww you Vodafone, I really hope someone blows you up!
10832 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Terrible and disapointing at 6 Jan 2011 08:51:43 AM
I have been with Vodafone since getting a phone years ago. After returning from overseas i again went back to vodafone, what a mistake!!!! My phone is forever telling me it has a 'connection error' when trying to call out - it generally takes 4-7 attempts to call someone before it dials through. Too bad if its an emergency!!! I have the text missed calls option - when people attempt to phone me it states that the phone is unavailable (mind you this is while im at work in the CBD). Text messages are sent with a delay and I will recieve picture messgages sent to me days later - upto 4 is the longest currently and thats if they are recieved at all.
I travel regularly to Coffs Harbour - according the the Vodafone website and newtwork coverage zones there is a great deal of service - i cannot recieve calls or send text while there. I travel southward and get on the highway returning to Sydney only to have texts come through while i'm in the middle of nowhere! Go figure!!!
Billing!! After making payments to my monthly bill I will still recieve texts saying I owe money and my phone will be disconnected, when calling 1555 it will say my outstanding balance is still the amount with no credit. When calling I wait 20mins then request a call back 'to my surprise 4 hours later they call me only to advise that yes my payment was recieved.
For such a large network company I dont understand how things can go so wrong. Vodafone was once a great provider but now ' bring on my contract coming to an end!!'
Lets all hope Vodafone listens to its customers and does something about it before 'Vodawhat'

Consistently receive NO reception or ROAMING reception in areas that should be and have confirmed to be 100% perfect reception areas. Happens all over Canberra too, which is so frustrating because it always seems to happen when you need it most.

10828 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Incredibly. at 6 Jan 2011 08:33:46 AM
I have been with Vodafone with my mobile phone for about 12 months now.. and I thought I was alone.. Constant drop outs.. 3G internet on my phone barely works.. I lose all reception/signal in metropolitan areas during my 30 minute train ride into the city each morning.. I joke that MMS messages may take up to 72 hours to reach their destination - but it's no joke at all. I have SMS blocks - for example a 4 hour block where no SMS messages come in or out - then I receive them all at once, sometimes these SMS messages have been quite urgent, but when the sender tried to phone me, they thought my phone was off because that robot lady told them it was turned off. But it wasn't, as far as I knew I was in full reception.
This is an on-going, constant issue since I started using Vodafone, I just figured I had to sit tight and deal with this severely inferior and inadequate service.
It's truly disgusting.

She has been trying to phone me for the past 20 minutes.. Finally she gets through. Thanks alot vodafone for worrying the HELL out of me AGAIN. Cant wait to cancel .

3G dongle connects ok via HSUPA with 2 to 3 bars (I'm about 900m from the Brisbane CBD and in a valley so I guess it's a remote site) but I can't maintain a connection with skype, email or browser - I get about 1 minute of slow feed, then 2-5 minutes of waiting.
Vodafone, I've been a loyal customer for nearly 10 years, but I'm starting to consider moving... please get your act together!

I have been with Vodafone for over 8 years, and I can not believe the current issues I have had. I know that I have lived in the same house for over and then all of a sudden I coudln't get reception.
To make it worse, I had a massive backlog of texts and voice messages come through all at once... days later! Which meant that I was uninformed of an important birth, in which I found out 3 days later, I should have been at the hospital days before!
Not to mention having an enormous impact on business and personal responsibilities.
I couldn't bare it anymore, was having too much of an impact... I have since changed providers. Thankfully my contract had finished, but the last few months paying for a unreliable service has made things disasterous!
Now to clean and patch up Vodafone's mess they have created.

We have two mobiles and wireless 'broadband' with Vodafone. We've had monumental dramas with Vodafone, but mainly with little or no reception on the Central Coast. Vodafone (India) told me their coverage map was designed for 'marketing purposes' and not a true indication of actual phone reception. They reduced our internet fee from $49pm to $9pm after being told this was against the law in NSW. Yesterday our phone bill was reduced because Vodafone are 'upgrading their network in Terrigal/Erina for the next month' (although they don't advertise this on their site). We look forward to our contracts ending.

Extremely poor reception unless im within 1km of a relay station, data speeds are ridiculous, and dropped calls no matter where i am has become so damn frustrating!
My girlfriend changed to Telstra (from Vofafail), and the service is unbelievably good! No dropouts anymore, fast data, very good reception wherever you go..
Everytime i use my phone and it drops out, or is slower than connecting to dial-up, she shows me her phone and, my gosh.. full bloody reception each and EVERY time!
Vodafone, time to wake up. You have 2 months before i switch to Telstra.

Trying to determine remaining contract. So I attempt to use myvodafone (lost password - my bad). However it the tells me I have forgotten my mothers maiden name in my secret question. Im 44 for *%$# sake, I know my mothers maiden name. After Lara (IVR) informed me that she had technical problems and couldnt help me (3 times). I finally got through to india to get a temp password. When I did access my Vodafone I discovered that my mothers maiden name was replaced with a string of java script code (my mums maiden name wasnt java script). But alas my vodafone wont tell me my remaining contract, so back to Lara and she still hanging up on me more because she has problems. So 1 and a half hours later I am still trying find how long i've got before I can dump them...I feel her pain.

I was charged in excess of $500 for internet fees, when I was not using the internet at all on my phone - the Vodafone system was logging my phone on to the net every two hours!!!! It took 6 months for this issue to be resolved, but I will never forget this as it has affected my credit rating. Vodafone are the most difficult company to deal with - I have had to contact them four times recently and each time I have called I have been on hold for over 45 minutes and then when I finally got through to someone the line would cut out and no one would ever call back. When my contract is finished I will be going with anoyher provider - never to be with Vodafone again.

bad reception on the line from glenfield to Sydney CBD. and also the data usage is poor as well - whats the point of having 2GB a month if I can't utilise it all, at best i'm lucky to even have used 100MB a month out of the 2GB.

6 Jan 2011 07:18:14 AM: Agreed, Telstra's NextG network rocks :)
6 Jan 2011 07:19:33 AM: if only they had cheaper plans with more calls and data then the whole of australia would flock to telstra
6 Jan 2011 07:19:35 AM: If Telstra actually became more price competitive, they would have 75%+ of all mobile customers....It is only for the fact they are so expensive that they only have about 50% market share.

6 Jan 2011 12:08:34 PM: I think one of the reasons Telstra is so much more expensive, is that it costs them a lot to provide the coverage in remote(unprofitable) areas. They are also subject to a Service Delivery ""thing"- they get fined if they don't address a service problem within a time frame- that costs money.I wish the same thing existed with dealing with customer problems. It is two weeks since I contacted Telstra about charges wrongfully applied to my landline bill and they haven't contacted me by phone or email.
And there is also the simplest reason- many people stay with them because it is daunting trying to sort out what's what from all the mobile phone plans and possibilities and "familiarity breeds contempt" and Telstra is probably charging people for their inertia.I would suggest this is why Commonwealth Bank customers also have much higher fees, and fewer features, associated with their accounts.
And, Telstra also has costs associated with importing a CEO and having to pay him to go away.

We have 6 mobile phones in our family 5 connected to Vodafone (4 on plan) and 1 to Telstra. While away in Jervis bay the Telstra phone had constant and full reception. 4 of the 5 vodafone (the ones on plan) had little to no reception and absolutely no data. The one phone that had somewhat good reception was the little $140 prepaid phone but no data. The other 4 phones that had little or no reception 2 x iphone 4, 1 x Samsung Galaxy 1 x Samsung all contract phones.. So maybe if the little cheap prepaid has reception we all need to change over to prepaid and get better coverage? Typical get punished for being on plan!
10812 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is unreliable mobile broadband at 6 Jan 2011 07:08:46 AM
I have been using the mobile broadband service for 9 months now. I use it at home and always have very strong to excellent signal strength. I use Skype and Yahoo messenger a great deal and find that if left idle while connected the data traffic simply stops - connection manager says Im connected but there is no data traffic web pages will not refresh, yahoo Messenger says it's disconnected. To fix the problem I have to unplug the USB stick modem and re-establish the whole connection. Other issues as well - Yahoo Messenger will not send my webcam video - similar issues with skype
10809 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Fraudulent at 6 Jan 2011 06:57:05 AM
Vodafail is actively and knowingly defrauding Australian customers. Promising a service, knowing that this promise is fraudulent and then lying that it is your problem with your phone or area while continuing to take your money. I was with them for 3 weeks and it was the worst company I have every had to deal with. I am so glad I did not sign up on a contract although my unlimited $99 uncapped cost $186 for three weeks! How do you explain that? I even used my own phone and did not get one from them.
Vodafail will end up a Harvard Business School Study on how to piss off and lose as many customers as possible in the shortest possible time. Good luck with the class action!

Though, now this website has made it possible for people to see they are not alone, Vodafone's dirty little secrets about it's performance are out, and now something will need to be done, perhaps by the ACCC, because the tactic of frustrating and f*cking with people until they just give up and put up with it until the end of their contract cannot work any longer.

10806 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Unacceptable at 6 Jan 2011 06:38:24 AM
I depend on my mobile phone as my major communication method. However, reception is poor to non-existent in both my home and my places of work (inner Sydney and the inner suburbs of Sydney). Text messages take up to 36 hours to come through.
Repeated logged calls via email with Vodfone have resulted in them NOT giving me any helpful advice (e.g. answering a specific question with a tenuously related piece of boilerplate text from their website). Or my questions are simply not acknowledged at all.
I've tried to call Vodafone during times when I've had enough signal strength but that resulted in
(a) being on hold for longer than I can stand;
(b) speaking to somebody who just could not answer the questions.
This is a PAID "service" for which I am not getting an acceptable level of service.

Been on a plan for 18 months now, counting down the days that I can change to a service that will give me coverage. I am in Dapto, most of the time I am lucky to get a couple of bars but that does not stop dropped calls from happening. If I am downstairs in my house I have to sit the phone over by a window to get any reception at all, if someone calls me I then have to run upstairs before answering or I will lose the call. 3G, HA! If I stand on one leg and wave my arms towards the Sun God Mardok while uttering a chant maybe, otherwise forget about it.

Yesterday I was telemarketed by a Vodafone Direct employee (02 8061 8120) who said he was looking at my account usage and he commented that I "made a lot of calls". I told him he would have seen that over the last year about 80% of my calls are consecutive repeats to the same number at the same time due to Vodafone system failure and that their actual bill should be about a quarter of what it is. About a second later the call was terminated by him (maybe the phone dropped out?) BUT HE NEVER CALLED BACK!!!!! He had hit his complaint kill switch - HAHAHAHAHAHA - it proves the point doesn't it.

Sending picture messages is a joke. I sent one to a friend 4 days ago. He has never received it. I was sent picture messages on Christmas Day - they arrived 4 days later. Spent almost 5 hrs (on various occasions over the last week) on hold. Was promised someone would call back. On the occasion that a girl (who mumbled her message on my voicemail - the call, of course, went straight to voicemail) did call back, was not to be found anywhere. She asked me to call the help line - I did. No one knew who she was and there were no notes on my account. I spent 50 min on hold trying to get through. The chap who did take my call said there were no known issues with Vodafone. I laughed and hung up. I finally got through to someone in the business accounts area. he has promised a mth free, and pending the result of an enquiry by the technical dept, release from my contract. They promised to call me back on Jan 6 - but I'm not holding my breath.

After several experiences of ringing the Vodafail call centre in India, I have wised up to their various excuses to try and make me think a)this is a localised problem just happening in my area b) my phone may be faulty - switch it off, take the battery out and try again (and of course, lose your call to the call centre) c)I am one of the few Vodafail customers who is having ongoing problems. Don't listen to these excuses, tell them up front that you know about the NATIONWIDE debacle that is called the Vodafone network, that there are more than 10,000 people who have already signed up on this website and are ready to take a class action and that you want a credit for every month the service continues to be crap!

Dropped calls, no calls at all over Christmas, couldn't even dial 121 for voice message retrieval and text messages have arrived 2 or 3 days later, some have never arrived. As for the mobile broadband, this is a pathetic joke, even dail-up is faster and more reliable.
I stood on St Kilda Beach between Xmas and New Year with the big Vodafone Cricket promotion underway, and couldn't even make a call! I hope none of those hundreds of people sitting on Vodafone boxes watching the cricket were silly enough to be sucked in by the promotion and sign up!

Been a customer since 2001 and signed up for the mobile broadband in 2010. They are always charging me for the services I've never signed up for. Each month I'd need to ring up at least once and be put on hold for around 2 hours to try rectify the problem. When you ring up, you always get passed from one operator to the next! How frustrating is that!

I live in the Adelaide metropolitan area and have been with Vodafone (Mobile Broadband) for 6 months. When I checked the coverage calculator on the Vodafone website before signing up for the contract they showed my house was in "Standard Coverage Area". Their standards speeds are pretty slow on the ocassions when it connects. Other networks work well and at good speeds from my house.
I have been trying to contact Vodafone to disconnect the connection but have been kept on hold for extended periods (more than an hour at times).
I have finally sent them an email and requested that they discontinue the service and decided to hold payments to Vodafone till they respond to my request.

One of my rooms I have some connection for calls but Internet is hopeless!
What angers me, that according to their coverage map this area should have both cellular and Internet, but of course this is not the case!
The other issue which seems interesting to me is that in some places is shows Edge connection, but when I try to open any page says no connection.

1.5 years ago I purchased a blackberry storm from the local Vodaphone store in Armidale NSW. I was assured it had all the same features as an iphone including (I was very clear) wifi capability.
two days later I returned to the store, the phone was rubbish reception was horrendus (even in the centre of armidale I lose reception) and I couldnt find its wifi capability something I required for work. I was assured it was there and to check online. After two and a half weeks of argueing with the store about the phones lack of feature equality with the store I was told to call Vodaphone direct. After over two hours on hold they informed me that the cooling off period of two weeks had expired and to return to the store so back I went. Same story from them dispite the fact I had been arguing with them two days after purchasing the phone. I finally track down thier national sales manager and threaten legal action in small claims court for false and misleading conduct, I was informed "bring in the phone and its accessories and I will give you an old model iphone". Great, the next day I take EVERYTHING in minus the box (phone charger cables manuals ect). I am then infomred that the sales staff had been directed that if I did not have the box that they would not take back the phone AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH !!!! back to vodaphone, they didnt care and I was diorected to continue complaining with the store direct. Well it has since closed down and the nearest store is approximately 180km away in Grafton.
I give, up use my phone for another few months and then throw it against a wall in rage, bugger all reception, rubbish phone with none of the features I was informed it had.
So here I am paying for a phone contract I havent used for about 12 months and waiting for my contract to expire.

i cannot quite believe a company has the gaul to enter the marketplace & offer the kind of shoddy experience both my wife & I have received over the past month since arriving from London. The failures are common it seems from inexcusable times waiting on hold through to drop out & lack of service. Anyone had numbers dialed whilst you're on another call? All quite unbelievable. Service complaints are not uncommon in the UK across the networks but the suffering here in Australia on VF surpasses it by miles. Something offer to be done & I salute the gentleman who set up this site & hope a class action succeeds. Failing that? Something akin to the student protests in London at VF's Australian HQ might be the only way forward. After all, it might not just be a job at stake next time a call drops out, it could be someone's life.
6 Jan 2011 12:36:43 PM: Class actions in Australia are not as glamorous or as anywhere near as lucrative as those portrayed in the movies.I'm not sure the good money part-punitive damages -even exists with class actions. And there are ways for companies to avoid even paying the costs and straight reimbursement awarded against them.
Look at James Hardie and the (now many dead) victims of asbestos; and the work Senator Nick Xenophon has been doing in this area.

We moved from 3 who were pretty useless to Vodafone prior to them becoming the same company. I have been plagued constantly with the same issues.. minimal reception, only 1 bar where we live which is only 8kms from the Perth CBD. Calls go straight to voicemail even when I do have reception, text messages taking up to 24 hours to arrive or send, MMS can take days at a time, voicemail arriving hours, days and occasionally weeks after they have been left. I run my own business and I can't rely on Vodafone to provide the service they have been contracted to provide.
I lodged a complaint with the TIO and ACCC, in the meantime I have moved 4 sims (2 phones, ipad and a USB internet) from Vodafone to Telstra. I will fight any charges they try and send my way with tooth and nail and will take it through the courts if necessary. I have also signed up for the class action.

A question I wanted to raise on this site is... has anyone experienced calls regularly dropping out at intervals such as 5 mins 2 seconds... 10 mins 2 seconds etc?
This occurred in various areas of sydney for me and another person I know also using vodafone from mid 2009 to early 2010. I would check my phone at the time, there would be reception and I would be abe to call back or others would call back immediately. This would happen consistantly for about a week then it would be back to "normal" for 2-3 weeks then it would reoccur!! At times I can remember having literally dozens of dropped calls per day and it would regularly happen 2 seconds into the minute of a call... most of them at 5 mins 2 seconds.
Interestingly enough this just happens to add up to extra $$$ for Vodafone, as we are billed for that entire minute or 30 sec block, of which we only used 2 seconds. Then, we are also left with little option but to call again so we incur 2,3 or more flagfall charges for the one call. If this was intentional its an interesting way of increasing their income from calls by 10 - 15% at 5 minute drop outs. Considering Vodafones honesty and "ways" it appears they were INTENTIONALLY dropping calls in certain areas for a given period then moving to another area to minimise customer complaints. One thing they would have banked on for this "scheme" to work (if it was that).. is that their customers would not unite against their ways.
So... Anyone else with a similar experience?
This occurred in various areas of sydney for me and another person I know also using vodafone from mid 2009 to early 2010. I would check my phone at the time, there would be reception and I would be abe to call back or others would call back immediately. 5 Jan 2011 09:20:51 PM: mm..I've seen comments previously that mention calls drop off at a set interval, but not sure if it was 5mins 2 secs. Sounds strange and since I'm not telecoms expert, have no idea what would be the cause.
Some people have also suggested the dropped calls thing as a way for them to make more money, but I think logically, they do themselves real damage by not providing a good service-and they would know that. Logically, they (senior management) would care about the longevity of the business and therefore try to engage in sustainable practices (ie. make profit sustainability)...but then again.....they have made some pretty major mistakes lol.

5 Jan 2011 10:12:47 PM: I had the same problem until I deliberately broke my phone, it always happened at about the 5 minute mark in late 2009 and early 2010. I began toi think they just wanted to get additional connection charges.
5 Jan 2011 11:01:20 PM: Hi there I posted above.. thinking as logically as I could, nothing else made any sense. Especially when you see that happen over and over again... phase out and return a couple of weeks later, dropping calls the first 2 seconds in.. you realise there is a good "chance" there's intent behind it. Especially when they stand to benefit immediately. Maybe they needed a short term gain.. to fund their longer term needs. Who knows, altho it would be interesting if it was wide spread.
As close as I came to making my phone also spontaneously explode hehe.. thankfully I didnt because the problem was consistent between my Nokia N73 and Blackberry 8310. There must be more people out there that experienced this.. it just went on for so long I was left expecting it to happen after a couple of weeks of grace !! I remember the BB call logs would look something like.. 5:02, 5:02, 3:02, 10:02 for the same call.. It was flippen ridiculous!

I seemed to have forgotten what its like what to have it... have to have my phone on 2g all the time otherwise my phone battery won't last,.... new HTC Desire HD...and have to turn on 3g to go on the internet or get emails... and I am paying for this lack of service... SERIOUSLY VODAFAIL...SORT IT OUT and only a few k's out of Sydney CBD

was told email would function as per previous blackberry on new iphone4; cant send/recieve emails, $1500 roaming bills, costing me money as needed for work purposes, cant get any help whatsoever - spent so long on hold so many times to be given no answers. you get straight through on a nice clear line to the most friendly service when you want to upgrade, just dont ask for any friendly assistance...
10766 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Useless at 5 Jan 2011 08:43:29 PM
Vodafone you're useless!!! According to your site im in 3G zone yet I get no reception in our bedroom and only two bars of non 3G in the lounge max. Even when in a 3G zone with full reception the internet and apps either dont work or are incredibly slow. Whats worse i was on 3 before now they're the same company so sucked in to me. Sort your S@#T out Vodafone
10765 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is 1000000% at 5 Jan 2011 08:32:56 PM
My move to Vodafone from another carrier occurred when this other carrier continuously stuffed me around when it came to receiving the new iPhone 4g. I happily changed to Vodafone yet after only a matter of weeks my brand spanking new iPhone 4g started experiencing problems. Calls constantly dropping out (important calls may I add to clients etc), poor network coverage in areas that one would assume coverage would be wonderful and last but certainly not least... The slow, painful internet. I don't think it is fair to pay around $80 a month, or ANY amount, for services that I do not receive. Not only are we in the 21st Century, we are in an era where these issues should no longer be issues. Time to step up your game Vodafone, because I can assure you in no time at all will your customers be flocking to the other major phone companies.
10763 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is TERRIBLY at 5 Jan 2011 08:28:33 PM
So, I'm not vodaphone, but Three, but they're both "part of the same family". Reception for me over the last year, PARTICULARLY the last three months has been TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE. Even in the most metropolitan of areas I have no reception, calls keep dropping out. I, too, have the most TERRIBLE of battery life. And all this to a customer of three years. Thank you for creating this site.
10762 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Very bad at 5 Jan 2011 08:26:08 PM
Hello, Firstly thank you for starting this website. Its a sad fact that Vodafone (and some other companies operating in Australia) are so out of touch with their customers and arrogant, that a national campaign has to be started in order for proper customer service to be delivered.
My complaints....
1. Unbelievably Bad Reception: I live in Clayton Victoria and suburb of Melbourne, also by the by where Telstra and others telecom companies have their national telecommunication control centers. We're not talking about rural Australia here, and yet I consistently can't get reception in my living room or walking down the main street. Seriously, not being able to get reception in Clayton is like not being able to get Sushi in Tokyo ..... during a sushi festival.
2. Long Loooong time left on hold: I had to sort out a billing problem ($3500 dollar bill for overseas roaming, thanks very much) and with time on hold, bounced between this department and that, it took over 2.5 HOURS!
Hopefully this information helps in improving the situation
Regards
Damien Lacey

5 Jan 2011 11:02:21 PM: Hey Damien, I agree with your comments about Clayton being metro Melbourne - but seriously, can it get much worse than this: standing on St Kilda beach on front of the Vodafone Summer of Cricket promotion and can't make a call! Could have had a red cardboard Vodafone box seat though! Maybe that complete waste of money on cricket promotion could have been better directed into improving their network.
10761 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Need to pay for an unknown account!? at 5 Jan 2011 08:25:02 PM
Vodafone has debited 2 unknown payments from my credit card from an account which I had no idea of! That's a total of $160+ over 2 months! How weird is this!
Another 2 payments were made to VODAFONE INTERNET, which again Vodafone Pty Ltd has no idea where this comes from... checking out with my bank... but this doesn't look good at all!!!

6 Jan 2011 12:58:15 PM: The credit card companies have some sort of "bad vendor" register, and I have heard that they can refuse credit transactions with those vendors. I am wondering why Vodafone hasn;t made that list?
Both Mastercard and Visa refused to process donations to Wikileaks.Perhaps they could do the same with Vodafone, because, really, Vodafone behaves like a "terrorist" charity, and must cause the card companies so many resources dealing with Vodafone "issues".
I think they could regain a bit of cred after the Wikileaks thing, and I am pretty sure there would be no hacker backlash.Though, *wild speculation*- perhaps VF spends all its ill-gotten gains employing a crack team of blackhats to make sure they always have a way of getting money from anyone who's ever been on their data base.

5 Jan 2011 09:08:57 PM: Couldn't agree more! She is PAINFUL!
5 Jan 2011 09:37:45 PM: i find the forever cheerful Lara the most offensive part of the VF experience. Her almost chuckling demeanour at the end of certain sentences seems to me like a message from those in the boardroom, laughing at us for signing up, lining their pockets with our hard earned dollars & locking us in to 2 years of turmoil. Scum of the earth in my opinion? Lara included

Would hate to imagine how slow other handsets are going...this is the middle of the CBD for christ sake. Im glad its not just me, but at the same time what the hells going on? We pay just as much if not more than other carriers for what seems to be less than half the service.

There are many issues that I have had with vodafone in the last 12 months and after being a patron with them for more than 10 years I am extremely annoyed. One of the main issues that I have had with their service is text messages being charged multiple times on my bill. I have report this to them on the last 4 bills and still this occurs. Why is it that I have to inform them of this repeated error? and why am I waisting my precious time to be put on hold for more than 50 minutes to tell them this????
Very angry!

10756 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY USELESS at 5 Jan 2011 08:09:17 PM
Well where do I start!!!!! I had been happily using 3 mobile broadband for almost 2 years and then I got an email from Vodafone to say "hey change to us at no cost on a month by month plan with a free wifi modem and get extra download for no extra cost" well this was the lure for me as I just purchased my daughter a laptop for Christmas, so I signed on the dotted line on 17th December - FIRST MISTAKE! After receiving all the goodies in the mail on 20th December I quickly rang them and asked them to activate the sim to get me off and running. Well 23 phone calls later and about as many different stories I am still not connected. I reported them to the TIO and rang the sales people (and spoke to somebody in Australia!!!) and begged them to help me which I admit they did and promised - once again it will be resolved in 24 hours crap...well then I thought why am I doing this? Rang them back (was on hold 30 minutes) then got cut off!!!!!!! The rang back again was on hold 40 minutes and then the phone at the other end rang for 3 minutes before somebody picked up. Told her to cancel my account and DO NOT DARE SEND ME A BILL. Went to my local 3 shop signed up again and was connected in 30 minutes!!!
5 Jan 2011 08:15:29 PM: A word of advise, be careful, Vodafone may pursue you for termination fees, keep a note of all of your conversations, date, time, who you spoke to, their id number, and the outcome of the conversation. You may also have to take the matter to the TIO details may be found on the How To Complain tab. Good luck !!!!

Why they can't give discount customer half price plan?

in order to make customer happy and be loyal with Vodafone until the issue resolved should give customer discount half price plan from $69 to $34 per month or waived 12months contract

If that is the case, imagine OP's (and all NESBians) increased difficulties communicating with people with foreign accents overseas. Difficult for both sides of the conversation. Hope you get some chickensh*t amusement from that!

6 Jan 2011 08:12:44 PM: Hold on a minute cowboy, that phrase (Sorry, I didn't quite catch that........) is taken from none other than Lara on 1555 when she does not understand fully the response given to a question. Where does the word 'horrible'come into it??? So no I don't understand as you make no sense. Suggest you take your pious, sanctimonious and patronising attitude, lube it up and shove it where the sun does not shine. Good enough for you??

7 Jan 2011 01:40:36 AM: @6 Jan 2011 10:12:44 PM:."I am aware that you may be having some issues with my performance................." You are probably right- it's been so long since I've even tried 1555. And I have noticed several posts that could not be misinterpreted (!) as anything but swipes at NonEnglishSpeakingBackground-ians,and one I just didn't find funny, after a poster had written of his/her need for a reliable phone because of his/her disability.Plus the usual teenager/VF spam insults. My only excuse is I was in a particularly foul mood at the time. And "horrible" is in the very first line of the post-up the top.You think I was being " pious sanctimonious and patronising"- I think you were being downright abusive and it's a pity you could direct it somewhere a little more deserving- senior VF management?:-)

I'm a 3/Vodafone customer (thankfully only for another 2 months as my contract is about to expire and I can't wait to change!)
I've had to endure substandard service and overpriced bills for almost 2 years now.
A few examples:
- Constantly had echoes on the phone. Left the handset in to 3/vodafone 3 times, only to be told each time there was nothing wrong with the phone. Vodafone/3 refused to change/upgrade the phone.
- Was holidaying in New Zealand. Phone worked fine for 2 weeks on roaming, then stopped working completely. Emailed 3/Vodafone for assistance, but received no reply.
- Phone constantly (ie several times on a daily basis) cuts out during business and personal calls.
Thanks for setting up this website - its a great initiative and great to know I am not alone in my terrible experiences with 3/vodafone!

I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one experiencing these problems.
I live less than 3.5 kilometres from the centre of Sydney and get no reception in my house! As we decided to get rid of the home phone, as it was superfluous - I am in trouble when I need to make a call. I needed to call an ambulance for my son and had to stay in the one spot and hope that the phone didn't drop out - as it regularly does! Not a time that you should be worrying about things like this!
When I am lucky enough to have some reception it constantly drops out and goes from full service to no service, without even moving a step away.
I constantly have problems with my voicemail - they don;t come through for days - if at all and the same thing often happens with SMS.
Switching to Vodafone was the worst decision I have ever made. My company phone is with Telstra and as much as I do not like them as a company - the reception is fantastic and I have not had a problem with them wherever I am in Australia

Signed 2 year Contract with Vodafone August 2010. Phone HTC Legend and am experiencing ongoing BAD reception. Calls fail while speaking, phone doesn't ring because of bad reception therefore up for extra cost to retrieve messages, 50% of time can't ring from home office. Customer Care in 'Mumbai' tested local towers and say they're not faulty. Also early confusion with accounts. Regret leaving 3. 10745 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is not working for me at 5 Jan 2011 07:33:26 PM
I live within 200m of Vodafone store at bondi beach, were I unfortunately signed up to this circus. Would you believe that when I went to the store to.complain about lack of 3g coverage, they told me that there has always been data issues in my postcode 2026. They then said that I can use 2g.
I cannot use data ever! Phone constantly not working.
To rub the salt in the wound, I just saw Vodafone ad on tv.8gb data modem including free pocket WiFi. I am lost to understand how the authorities allow this vile practice of selling contracts they can't deliver. When will government say enoughs enough?
For me, I plan to leave Vodafone as soon as I call TIO. I cannot wait to join 2011!

5 Jan 2011 07:40:47 PM: Oddly enough at my local Vodafone store there is 3G reception but.........as you walk further away from it so the signal gets weaker, strange but true!!! TIO details are at the top of the page details may be found on the How To Complain tab. Good luck and let us know how you get on!!!
10744 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Crap customer service and website at 5 Jan 2011 07:29:17 PM
I don't have call drop-out problems, but do have some late delivery text messages. My complaint is almost every time I try to pay my bill online, there is a website 'problem' that results in a frustrating call to the insufferable Robot Lara and a long wait on hold. Eventually I get excuses about the website being down/upgrading/temporarily unavailable etc etc. If I want a paper bill instead, that will cost me extra, but every month when I try to pay online I need to set aside about half an hour, just to give this stupid, useless and uncaring company money it doesn't deserve. The customer service is non-existent and the excuses pathetic. It is impossible to complain effectively. Every time I have a problem paying online because of their crap website, I ask for it to be reported but nothing ever changes. They promise anything to get you off the phone. I stay with this appalling company because I'm on a discontinued "no plan" service that costs them more money than it costs me. That's the only comfort I have in using Vodafone - actually "using" them. I recommend everyone I can against this company and tell Vodafone so when I complain, which is frequent. They don't care. But Optus for my home phone and internet is no better, so why bother going to the effort of switching suppliers? I bet they treat their staff like dirt, which is why they have these problems in the first place: no one who works there cares about the customer.
P.S. The bogus pro-Vodafone online comments on SMH story are surely embarrassing?! Try harder, Vodafone.

5 Jan 2011 07:30:00 PM: Gives a whole new meaning to the term Mobile Phone......!!!! Please enter your postcode on the Your Coverage tab so we can gather the appropriate data and the second thing is contact 1555 (make sure your phone is fully charged and be prepared for a possible long wait) the third thing is take the matter to the TIO details may be found on the How To Complain tab. Good luck and let us know how you get on!!!
5 Jan 2011 09:54:35 PM: umm, why?
5 Jan 2011 10:13:50 PM: @ 5 Jan 2011 11:54:35 PM (if you are the OP).............we've never been able to speak to our friends from within the house...........there is a network issue entering your postcode will identify the problem area...........I presumed (appears I am incorrect) that you would want the problem solved by contacting Vodafone on 1555..........TIO is the next step if you do not get satisfaction on 1555. Have I misread your intentions?? If so may I ask why you posted your issue on here???
10742 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Problems back in 1994 at 5 Jan 2011 07:20:40 PM
I signed a 2-year contract at about 10.30 in the morning, was shown a coverage map which included my home and business in Perth. When I got back to my home at 3.00pm that same day, I found to my horror no signal at my house. I had a signal at the end of my driveway, great. I immediately contacted Vodaphone so I could return the phone and get a refund, to no avail. Next stop the TIO. A couple of frustrating weeks later they said Vodaphone were within their rights and I had to pay out compensation to Vodaphone for 2 years of the contract. This for a useless piece of junk that I had bought 5 hours earlier. Not fit for the purpose??? The TIO is a waste of space and taxpayers money. Expect no help from them at all. Ever.
They are an apologist for the Telecommunications Industry, set up just to calm fears that were expressed when the government excluded them from the provisions of the Trade Practices Act.
I was stuck with a mobile for two years having to go to the end of the driveway in all weathers just to receive and make calls.

5 Jan 2011 07:24:11 PM: That is a bugger and I feel your pain, have you tried the TIO again?? Persistence sometimes pays off, another thing is to join the class action against Vodafone found in the How To Complain tab at the top of the page. Good luck my friend.

10740 Someone from NT thinks vodafone is Extreme at 5 Jan 2011 07:14:51 PM
The mobile broadband contract I entered with vodafone was supposed to be 3G, in 24 months I have rarely been connected to 3G. My contract expires on the 17/1/2011 and you would not believe how hard it is to get through to vodafone's 1300650410 number trying to cancel any extension of my contract. Maybe a vodafone ploy to get an extra months payment out of me. I will not use them ever again, or recommend them to friends or anybody considering using vodafone.
5 Jan 2011 07:19:27 PM: I envy you, finish on 17/1/2011, you lucky person!!!! Try 1555 and ask for Cancellations, be prepared for a long wait (as usual)!!!! If not there is a mail address, I think online.help@vodafone.com.au if no joy then go to the TIO the details can be found at the top of the page in the How To Complain tab. Good luck and let us know how you get on!!!
5 Jan 2011 07:26:04 PM: Thank's I'll try everything.
9 Jan 2011 03:59:01 PM: I have completed a TIO complaint and with a great deal of luck should have this resolved in 10 days. Go Telstra!
9 Jan 2011 04:05:18 PM: You would'nt believe it while I was typing the above sentence, big brother at vodafone dropped me out.
18 Jan 2011 06:51:31 PM: Finished my contract, ended by vodafone after a TIO complaint, YAHOO!. Now connected to Bigpond ADSL2 and loving it. Extreme 10740.
All the best with getting out of the vodafone contract. Ive kept away from contracts for over 2 years now since my experience with 3. I pay up front and when they fail us like vodafone is now we can wave bye bye without ever having to ring them and be messed around for hours :-)
