26 Mar 2012 - Update Highest Rated Pain Stories Highest Rated Gain Stories Vodafail Local Facebook Page
Dear visitor,

Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced by Vodafone customers.

Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders. You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.

Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.

More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly. Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints. The site will remain online for as long as possible as a reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.

It has been a privilege to run this initiative and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.

You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.

Until next time,

Adam Brimo

Latest for me is someone decided that they would set up a direct debit on my account 1/ without my permission to do so and 2/ with bank account details that dont belong to me !!!! Thankfully, I noticed it before some poor person paid my bill for me ! What a huge breach of privacy, and of course I have put it all down in writing and heard nothing in nearly 3 week. Good on you Vodafone...keep up the great work you bunch of UTTER CLOWNS

19116 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Extremely at 11 Aug 2011 11:38:41 AM
There is absolutely no change to reception and dropped calls in the ACT. I'd be interested to know the extent of any "upgrades" to the network in this area.
15 Aug 2011 09:22:06 AM: Heh - same here. I work out at the business park next to the airport and being the airport, you'd exepect to have 5 full bars of 3G. Nope, just have one bar, two at best.

Tried to recharge online. Website wouldn't recognise my password, and locked my username. Contacted the call centre and was told that my account has been unlocked, and a new password would be sent by SMS. Nothing after an hour, so I called back to be advised that the new password would take "approximately" 24 hours to arrive!
12 Aug 2011 12:42:30 PM: And, guess what? No SMS ever arrived!

19113 Someone from Somewhere else thinks vodafone is THE WORST!!! at 11 Aug 2011 02:33:50 AM
They are criminals, who make up bills when you have already paid and then disconnect you. You then have to pay them their ransom money to be reconnected. The worst thing I ever did was to take out a contract with these CRIMINALS!!!

19112 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Crap with a capital "C" at 10 Aug 2011 10:37:37 PM
Live in Como in the Sutherland Shire of NSW. Have had poor reception for past few years, but recently moved and now have intermittent coverage at best. I run a business from home and have calls drop out or divert to voicemail on a daily basis. Have been calling Vodafone to complain every month or so. Since the move (May) they have offered half price for three months, then after further complaint free for three months, asking me to please be patient as they are doing major upgrades. However, they still insist that my address has great coverage. Yet they are referring the complaint for "investigation". Was told in June to wait until the end of July and if not resolved then could terminate my contract without fees and return handset (HTC Desire HD). Upon calling them on 4th August was told "we can see you haven't been using your handset. How do you know your coverage hasn't improved? We can't cancel your contract. My answer: The phone is switched on every day and I can see the number of bars has not improved. I don't make any outgoing calls (why would I?) - have a second handset for outgoing on Amaysim (uses Optus network and coverage is quite good). People still call me on my Voda phone and the calls still drop out, go straight to voicemail, or they can't hear me.
Anyway, insisted on speaking with a supervisor. Was told they would call back in 24-48 hours. I said that wasn't good enough. They insisted a supervisor would call back within 24-48 hours. A supervisor did call me back about an hour later. Resolved to hold on for two more weeks (until 18th Aug) and if no improvement can terminate with no exit fees. The matter has again been referred to investigations - as a priority this time! What was it the last few times?
I have reviewed the Vodafone blog about their upgrades. I can see there is a planned upgrade in an adjacent suburb (Jannali) for Q3 2011, but it is not noted under the "sites in testing and planned to come On-Air in next couple of weeks".
I am not confident of any improvement by the 18th. I will not be taking "no" for an answer this time!
I have downloaded several apps to help monitor my coverage. I click on "OpenSignal" app every couple of hours and it generally reports between 23% and 37% signal strength.
Does anyone know of an app that can tell the strength of other networks at a location without having to get another sim?
I will probably go with Amaysim once I am out of Vodafone as I am not keen to enter another contract. For $39.90 a month can get unlimited talk and text +4Gb data. That will do me fine.
PS hubby just got iPhone 4 on Telstra NextG and has not lost a single call yet.
PPS I am not even trying to get web / email on my phone - I just want to be able to make and receive calls.
PPS I must say that my time on hold waiting for Vodafone customer service has not been too bad and the staff, if anything, have been overly helpful and apologetic. They just haven't been able to fix my problem.
11 Aug 2011 04:25:53 PM: Same situation as me. I have moved my other phone that have come off contract to live connected, but every time I call them about cancelling my contract as they have promised, they keep finding an excuse to delay.

Also, 1555 hardly ever seems to work!
3 Dec 2011 05:39:13 PM: I live in Jannali and have been going through the same stuff for 12 months. I explain it is killim
Ng my business but they seem to think that charging me half price will keep me happy. They don't seem to understand that their phone service DOES NOT work! Latest is jannali upgrade in January well see if it doesn't I'm out.

19111 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is at 10 Aug 2011 09:02:10 PM
Has anyone had problems with the Nokia E5? I have had countless trips and calls to Vodaphone because of handset failures (like hangs and restarts mid call, mid text or internet page). After much grief, and only 3 months into a 24 month contract, I "begged" or a replacement phone when the Vodafone store staff, despite being very nice, coudn't even set up the email to get it to work (after 2 trips to the technicians to be software updated/reloaded -why on a brand new phone?). In the swap the the fantastic (so far) Samsung Nexus, Vodafone now want to charge me an extra $5 a month because the phone is "worth more" (both were on teh $29 cap). Apparently, among the harrassment calls from All Phone telephone sales to renew my contract, they offered me a Combo Deal with the USB of internet access. I have registered my disatisfaciton with the store in question and have now submitted a complaint to the TIO. I have had more use out of my old Nokia phone in the past 3 months because the E5 is always away being fixed or is just too unreliable. Yes, I have service problems too and I work in the CBD, in Newcastle recently, only in range for about an hour but I am hopeful that the promise of fixing their network is true. I can put up with that, but the insult of so much inconvenience then being charged an extra amount for the next 21 months was too much for me. The staff have tried hard including the help desk in Mumbai (who offered a small credit for loss of phone the 2nd time it had to be sent away). They must be so sick of the negativity everyday; I feel sorry for them.

19110 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is chronic at 10 Aug 2011 07:32:46 PM
Been trying to get an explanation as to why im paying $80 a month for a service that only works 50% of the time. This has been going on for months now and they still have not resolved the issue. To make matters worse i went overseas for a month and fell behind on my payments, my phone is now barred - i asked them to kindly un bar it as i will make payments weekly and they are sticking to their guns and making me pay the full amount before i can use my phone again. $80 a month for a network that hardly works and now they have the balls to barr my service because i fell behind payments. No comprimisation, What a joke. What can i do ??
17 Aug 2011 07:07:51 AM: You falling behind in your payments is Vodafone's issue how ? when you signed the form you were signing an agreement that you would pay your bills on time and a month in advance and they only way vodafone will bar your account is if you have not paid two months bills in a row. So i fail to see how Vodafone is responsible for this.

Been with Throwdafone for about 5 years. Early on they were fine, over the past few years their service has been totally shitful. Absolutely disgraceful.
I reside less than 2kms from the CBD in a capital city and the service is patchy, mostly drops out, I have to go into my backyard to take and make calls.
I have to sit my phone on my kitchen table at an odd angle to receive any net coverage. Pages drop out or are hideously slow.
STILL having problems quite a bit with texts not sending.
As a paying customer as I say this - FIX YOUR PRODUCT FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!
10 Aug 2011 02:52:40 AM: Even better: I signed up for the Live AFL Scores thing through Vodafail.
First season I signed up, no dramas.
This season = nothing. Then, in the middle of the night last week, I started getting quarter by quarter updates from matches FOUR months ago!
Woke up to 17 new text messages with quarter time, half time, three quarter time and full time scores for the next few matches, then nothing since.
Your service is inept, fraudulent and pathetic Vodafail.
10 Aug 2011 12:30:01 PM: they are providing cutting edge service which is still stalled in 1957.

I stupidly signed up for a pocket wifi in February. For the first two months it was great. Since then, useless. Continual dropouts, extremely slow, Vodafone keep saying stupid things like change sim to another device which is what they say to everyone, again and again.
They sent me out a new 850MHz Pocket Wifi 2 which "would solve the problems" - it didn't. Works sometimes, but not often and not well.

19105 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is unfathomably repugnant at 9 Aug 2011 06:16:37 PM
I legally attempted to unlock my Nokia phone through the vodafone website, costing me $25, and I was provided a bullsh*t unlock code. I entered the code thrice, only to have it permanently block my phone. When I called vodafone they reiterated that the unlock code provided was correct and that the issue would need to be passed to the "unlocking difficulties" guy. They also told me the issue should be resolved in 3 - 4 days. I was sent an email from this guy on July 1, 2011, saying:

Hi,

Thank you for your query regarding IMEI ---------------. We are currently checking your unlocking code. You will receive a reply from us once the code has been verified with the handset manufacturer.

We trust this has addressed your query.

Kind Regards,
Manoj

...on July 9, 2011, I sent an email back saying:

Hi,

Could you please update me on the progress of getting my phone unlocked?
I'm overseas until the end of July and would really like this sorted out soon.

Thank you.

Kind Regards,
Patrick -------

...I received no response. On July 23, 2011, I sent another email saying:

Hello,

Could you PLEASE update me on the progress of my phone unlock!
I was told this was going to take four days. It has been almost a month now. What is going on?
I would also appreciate if you replied to my emails instead of ignoring them.

Thank You.

Kind Regards,
Patrick -------

...still no response. I then sent another email on August 1, 2011, saying:

Okay... So it has been a month now and this is my third email (the other two seem to have been ignored).
WHAT IS THE STATE OF MY PHONE UNLOCK???!!!
IMEI ---------------

Kind Regards,
Patrick -------

...no response. It is now August 9, 2011, and I've heard nothing. I am going to call them. The only reason I had been emailing was because I was in Malaysia. The whole purpose of buying the Nokia phone was to use in Malaysia. Total waste of money. The point of this rant is: if you need any indication on how lacklustre vodafone's approach to email is, the evidence is above. Wankers!

19102 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Pocket wifi - very low speed at 9 Aug 2011 11:37:10 AM
I got Vodafone Pocket Wifi 2 mobile broadband modem on Aug 8th 2011 and was very disappointed with the download speeds I am getting from it. I used www.speedtest.net to check the speed and the peak speed I am getting is only 0.6 mbps !! Average speed is even lower :-( I am using this device in Parramatta, Sydney and the Vodafone coverage map shows excellent coverage. Following is my observation on the environment
1. Signal strength on the mobile modem shows 5 bars which is the maximum best
2. Network connection shows 'H' meaning HSDPA. I suppose this connection is better than 3G
3. Only one device connected to the mobile broadband
4. Signal strength on my laptop is again 5 bars which is the maximum best

Vodafone website says that the speeds will range from 300 kbps to 3 Mbps but will vary according to the signal strength in the house. I am getting the best signal possible but the peak download speed is just 600 kbps which actually is terribly bad. I was expecting a speed atleast 1.5 Mbps

This is very unfair and not according to the promises made by Vodafone. I will be returning back my set to Vodafone and switch back providers
10 Aug 2011 12:35:50 PM: u paid money 4 it, now not happy & u found this web site to vent. should have done more research & u wouldnt be out of pocket. i just wish people would stop buying stuff from this gr8 company.

19100 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is epic expensive fail at 9 Aug 2011 09:51:38 AM
My email to vodafone:
Dear Vodafone,

your coverage is the worst out of any network I have ever used.

How you can call what you provide as a 'service' is beyond me. The past 3 weeks experience has been worse than normal, costing me time, urgent communication and money. Your total lack of consistency is beyond a joke.

After having an initial issue with my previous number I stupidly have kept using your prepaid while my issue is pending.

As soon as I can resolve everything with your business I will be changing service provider immediately.

I will be doing the same for the fleet I currently have set up in our office.

You guys are a joke!

Reply from Vodafone:
In order to assist with account related queries, please provide your 4 digit PIN number (the pin is the one you selected for your account when you connected to Vodafone), as well as your Mobile Phone Number. This will authorise a Vodafone agent to access your account.

Please note: if you have received this response and you already provided the PIN and Mobile Number/ your question is not account related/ you are a Non-Vodafone Customer please reply to this email via your inbox, otherwise your email will not be submitted to our correspondence queue.

If this is a new email in response to an existing email query, please update the existing email and do not submit a new one. This is to ensure we receive your update correctly.

My reply to Vodafone:
Dear Vodafone,

I do not have a pin on my prepaid service.

How about you do your job and provide a proper service instead of wasting more of my time.

The amount of money and time you have already cost me, due to such abhorrent coverage and service, is a disgrace. Not to mention the amount of money wasted on connection fees from having to call back numbers up to 5 times, mid conversation.

I am still waiting to hear from the Vodafone Ombudsman in regard to my existing plan, which you charged me over $2000 for, for uses that are physically not possible with your coverage. This issue has been ongoing for close to 5 months, and you still continue to charge me for a service I no longer use, that you cut connection to 3 months ago.

No less than 5 of my family and friends have had exactly the same problem with being overcharged for phone usage and also had to wait months until you resolved the problem, during which time you emailed them to tell them that it was a one off situation. Fortunately for me I no longer receive the highly upsetting calls from Vodafone on a daily basis telling me that I need to pay you or you will cut me off, as you have disconnected my plan, but never attempted to resolve the questioned excessive charges from your end.

After countless failed attempts to resolve the issue with you, and after being cut off from your overseas customer call centre, and hung up on by many staff who did not understand my complaint, I am still waiting for you to resolve my initial issue. I assume at some point someone will get back to me, but based on your coverage, I would have to guess that you are finding it difficult to get in contact with me.

Vodafone reply:

still pending.

when will they fix it!!!???
8 Aug 2011 09:02:53 PM: It sounds like they've started working on fixing it but it really depends what area you are in. Might be worth checking if you are in an area that has the hope of getting better soon: http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/aboutvodafone/network/index.htm

Vodafail.com Moderation Team
9 Aug 2011 12:46:30 AM: I checked that. It is all very weak info. No known faults in the area etc...
Plus the 'Troubleshooting' link is not correct on some of the pages.

from http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/aboutvodafone/network/index.htm

it directs you to

http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/service-and-repair/the-service-centre/troubleshooting-guide/index.htm

but from http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/aboutvodafone/network/network-850/index.htm

it directs you to

http://www.vodafone.com.au/help/index.htm

which is a crappy knowledge base 'tool'.

They can't even get their website sorted !?

The trouble shooting routine is vague and weak and puts the blame on devices or 'coverage'.
The problem is not coverage when the network 'forgets' you every now and again.
No matter where I am or what device I am using I have the same problem with Vodafone. Make a call = fine. After a while, go to make a call 'network busy'.
Try to receive a call 'busy tone'. Try to access data - no response. Try to send txt - won't send. 'Reboot phone' as suggested by Vodafail - all comes good.
So do I have to periodically (every hour or so ??) re boot my phone ???
9 Aug 2011 02:09:43 PM: Yea at best that is very bad web design and at worst it is misleading. If you've already filed a complaint with Vodafone and not gotten anywhere then its time for the TIO. If you want to stick it out on the Vodafone network then you should ask to be compensated for the poor service.

i use to work for vodafone, while i worked for them not a single problem. i lost my job for advising a customer not to sign up with vodafone because they had no coverage were they are i advised them it may be better to sign up with telstra or someone with a bigger network.

Ever since my phone bills are always $300 but im on a $45 infinite plan and use crap all internet. now my ohone gets disconnected every month because they f*&% me around continuously. i do not understand why they do it do they honestly get people to sign up just to piss them of?

also while i worked there my partner of 5 years passed away they gave me two days off. i asked for more and i was turned down. i managed to get two weeks holidays so when i went on my holiday i et a phone call asking were i was? they explained they gave my holidays to somene who needed them more. i sued and got no were because their lawyers are so use to spinning crap they won
8 Aug 2011 12:49:42 PM: they fire you for being honest - i like that. that's how they get their snake-oil salespeople: weed out the honest ones so that only the dodgy ones remain - it's called "corporate culture".

you should be proud you didn't fit in there.. keep your chin up you deserve a lot better than to have to work for Vodafail it's a shameless company, and anyone with an ounce of integrity doesn't belong there. good on you for doing what's best by the customer, you were probably the only one there that ever did that.
11 Aug 2011 09:41:57 AM: i use to work for vodafone also in melbroune we use to spend ages tring to sort out indias problems they were going to close but we had to to stay on for another six months to try and help india out then got shown the door. They even hang up on us if we tried to get a customer help so what help is the poor customer going get. Maybe if they had not outsourced overseas (slave labour by the way) and never merged with 3 they would not be in the shambles they are. My advice to cutomers is do not touch vodafone they do not care unless they are making money

19092 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Not blocking IMEI at 7 Aug 2011 04:28:36 PM
My iPhone 4 was stolen last weekend, upon realising that my phone had been stolen I immediately phoned 1555 Customer Care, however every time I selected the 'lost of stolen phone' option the call cut out. I attempted to call for about 3 hours, then waited until the store opened the next day. I then went into the store, was 'greeted' by incompetent and rude staff who needed me to spell out what my issue was and what I wanted them to do. Finally they gave me a SIM swap but were also unable to get through on 1555 to block the IMEI, I left the store and continued to call the 1555 number, finally 20 hours later I got through and was informed my iPhone IMEI would be blocked within 48 hours, 7 days later and according to both ATMA and Vodafone my IMEI remains unblocked. I have phoned Vodafone numerous times and they are confirmed that they had not blocked it and had no idea why they couldn't do it. They continue to say they will escalate the issue and that they will phone me back, and yet they have not rectified the issue, nor has anyone who has said they will call me back done so. In the meantime for insurance reasons I asked VF to email me a copy of my contract, they said this would arrive in my inbox within 24 hours... 6 days later and nothing. This is one of many concerns I have with Vodafone, I have had 6 months of poor dataspeed and no reception despite working in the city and living 2 ks from the city... I am so over VF and I WILL get out of my contract.
7 Aug 2011 04:42:30 PM: ppl in the store get paid to make sales and couldn't care less what happens to you after you've signed the dotted line. You've tried contacting VF so now go here:
http://www.tio.com.au/ComplaintForm/ComplaintFormS1.asp

and they must get back to you within 10 days
10 Aug 2011 04:10:52 PM: That's not true. If you go into a store and politely ask the staff to help instead of yelling, MOST people in the vodafone STORES (not dealers) will be more than happy to help you as they get paid for being there regardless of what they're doing. I used to work in a CBD store and refused to help customers who were rude. Obviously not everyone is like this, so unfortunately those people have a bad experience.
12 Aug 2011 08:51:22 PM: how do you think customers felt after being lied to, placed on hold for total 20 hours on ten occasions, and after being conned, then not given a refund. gfys
17 Aug 2011 07:10:54 AM: 1. you need to realise that the store people are there to help you and your mood does rub off onto them, you come in yelling and screaming - no matter what your situation is they will give you shit service in return because who are you really to be yelling at them first thing in the morning for something they ARE NOT responsible for.
2. waste your time with the TIO because that will get you know where, vodafone have not breached their contract in anyway.
3. you have lost your phone blocking the imei only stops someone else from putting there sim card into it - you still don't get it back they can use it for videos, apps (if you have any) just the sim can not work inside it so you have not only wasted your time worrying about getting your imei blocked for no reason but you are carrying on and realistically blaming vodafone for you losing your phone.
4. want a copy of your contract - go into a vodafone store (calmly) and ask them (nicely) to print you off a copy.

19091 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Painfully FAIL at 7 Aug 2011 03:37:43 PM
I am in a $90 a month contract with vodafone and have experienced little to no reception since my signup to vodafone, i have reported the issue three times and each time they assign the call to a technician to investigate the issue and then im told there is nothing wrong.

In the mean time im still paying $90 a month for call dropouts, intermittent data issues even though 3G is available and nothing is being done about it.

I am seriously over the service and customer service offered by vodafone overall.

I live on Oxford St, Taylor Square in the buzzing, vibrant centre of the city of Sydney and I have little to no signal both for phone calls and on the 3g network at most times. It pains me to pay $70/month to Vodafone for a service I do not receive. Perhaps if I lived out in the deep, desolate outback it might be a little bit more understandable. I sent them an email telling them that I get no signal and how it pains me and I received NO response at all! Are they actually a telecommunication service or do they simply sell phone contracts with no actual service provision?
7 Aug 2011 04:46:36 PM: you pay, yet you don't receive. ask for your money back and if you spend more than 10 minutes on hold or if they flat-out refuse just complain here:

Billed $1700 for excess data download eg 3.7gb in 7 hours No idea what download was. Vodafone will not, despite my express consent, inform me what download was or where it came from. No previous history of excess downloads. Suspect phone or billing fault would welcome advice on how to proceed.
7 Aug 2011 09:13:20 AM: you have tried resolving it by contacting Vodafone, so the next step is the TIO - take 5 minutes to fill out this form and someone must call you within 10 days.

http://www.tio.com.au/ComplaintForm/ComplaintFormS1.asp
7 Aug 2011 10:37:19 AM: Thanks . I will follow that advice. I have documented all contact with vodafone but I am amazed that vodafone will not disclose what download was or where it came from.
12 Aug 2011 07:25:31 AM: My mum just had the same thing happen last night! They told her she downloaded movies! She wouldn't know how the he'll to download a movie on her iPhone! Doesn't even know what YouTube is! And what's more suspect, it happened at 2.15am.. Vodafail!
13 Aug 2011 08:18:30 PM: i had the same issue for $1200 worth of data i never used,i went on the voda face book site and got more help then when i tried there customer "care", i got a email back saying they will reduce the bill to $40 which i agreed to as i didnt want the hassle of going to TIO, but i would have if they tried to make me pay in full.
2 Sep 2011 12:32:40 AM: Resolution. Vodaphone dropped all charges. But there is a good ending.
They have now credited me $1700 in addition to withdrawing the original $1700.after being misled for weeks by representatives of this hopelessly compromised organization registering a complaint with the TIO resulted in immediate resolution in my favour. Vodafone had claimed that my phone had used more data in 7 hours(whilst I was asleep) than our two phones had used in the previous 12 months. When I am at home I connect to optus cable via wi-fi. I believe that vodafone is involved in deceptive condult Well done TIo

19085 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is MASSIVE FAIL at 6 Aug 2011 08:29:54 PM
I was overseas (In the USA) in late June and July and a week before I left, I went into a vodafail shop to get them to check that it was on international roaming and it would all be fine overseas. They assured me it was after checking my account and fixing it all up. I am a prepaid customer, and because I was going for a month I purchased $49 flexi credit hoping it would last the trip (note this has a 30 day expiry)

I get over to South Korea (stopover) and I noticed it didn't pick up signal to any network but because I was only there one day I didn't worry, thinking it would be okay once I reached New York.

New York - Day 1 no sms from Voda saying I'd joined an american network.
I tried manually selecting networks, it didn't work.

New York - Day 2 still no connection so I used hotel phone with a prepaid card to call up the vodafail overseas customer care number.

I get put on hold for ages, and I get transferred to different people each time having to explain to each person what was going on - no one saved details on file or told the next person. I explained that I was not able to receive/make INCOMING or OUTGOING calls and yet each different person would say to me "It's okay we'll give you a call back on your mobile once it's sorted" I had to practically yell at some of the customer service reps what I had said quite a few times "I CAN NOT RECEIVE CALLS"
Unfortunately the call cut out (I'm not sure if it was on their end or my end...) and I had to recall and start the process all over again.

The second call, I got trasnferred to SEVEN different reps. Finally through to the IT department (mind you I had to explain the situation again and again to all SEVEN reps grr!)
IT Department checked my account and notified me that it should be working and that my settings were all correct. Therefore not their problem. I explained that I had been in to the shop and they'd fixed it but my HTC Legend wasn't working and no they couldn't call me back cause my phone DID NOT RECIEVE INCOMING CALLS!
They put me on hold (about 20 times throughout my two hour conversation with the IT department) and said that they could try some trouble shooting with me over the phone.

They requested that I manually try selecting the network (which I did - even though I had tried this myself about 100 times since I'd arrived in NYC) that didn't work. Next they got me to dial all these codes (don't remember what they were called tho.. ) that didn't work. Then they told me the only option was to factory reset my phone and hope that worked. Because I was overseas, I didn't have my cables to back up my phone (this is a brand new phone too!) and so I'd loose all my photos which I'd just taken, all my numbers etc.

I did do what they suggested and factory restarted my phone. It didn't work either. I was starting to get quite annoyed by this stage - I really needed a phone while OS and didn't want to keep using the hotel phoen because it would charge me evry time I used a call card as well.

After TWO HOURS on the phone - the call dropped out and I lost them again.
I tried calling back, but couldn't get to the IT department and they told me to call back later (apparantly something happened in Mumbai and half the office was gone).

When I tried manually selecting network a couple of days later- it said "UNABLE TO SELECT NETWORK SIM/NETWORK ERROR CONTACT YOUR SERVICE PROVIDER"

I couldn't waste another two hours on the phone so I had to leave it till I returned to Australia.

When I got back on the first day back - I went in to a Vodafail shop and they told me that because I was prepaid they couldn't help me out and If I wanted to have my phone looked at it would take 4 weeks and they don't supply back up / replacement phones for prepaid customers.
I called the call centre once again and they said they didn't understand why my phone still wasn't working (even in Australia!) and that I must have damaged the phone.

My credit expired - even though I hadn't used it. I have since been forced to buy a new phone
(am now with Optus and have a brilliant iPhone 4) but I was so angry that I spent all that time and worry about a phone and money on credit when I hadn't used any of it and it expired.
6 Aug 2011 09:37:51 PM: I just realised how long that post was apologies guys my voda rant gah

19081 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Extremely bad at 6 Aug 2011 05:39:15 PM
I have managed to break free of my contract with Vodafone. I had two phones attached to the accounts, I agreed to keep old 3GS and return the iPhone4. I had paid the last bill and also paid the remaining cost of the 3GS. The cost of the iphone4 was added onto my bill until I returned it via their reply paid postal bag. This had been done and instead of the account going to zero, it has gone from $1200 to now $289. This was not expected. I contacted Vodafone this week (Tuesday) and was told that my account was zero and that I owed no money. The person could not explain why the account was zero and why I was getting bills. I have since today opened a letter from their collections department and I find that I owe even more money. I ring back today and I get told that I did owe money but they cannot explain why. I have to ring their collections department on Monday. This is very frustrating, I'm so glad I have left them. So much for 2/47 bill account assistance. Their organisation needs an overhaul as its clear their systems are not effective enough to conduct business.

19076 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Mega Fail at 6 Aug 2011 09:32:46 AM
My Vodafail story:

I moved over to Vodafail in may last year, and went with a HTC Magic. My fiance was already with them, so I came over to get the free V2V calls. At the time, we lived in Sunnybank and the only place we could get reception was by going out to the street or standing on a chair in the walk in robe. Wasnt too bad as most of my time I worked in the Valley and had reception there. Anyway, after using my phone for a few months it was having issues with dropped calls, random restarts, and sometimes just completely losing the VF network. I had the distinct pleasure of calling the call centre and was advised to take my phone into the repair centre at Milton. As I was told it would only take an hour to re-flash the software, I took it in at lunchtime and came back after eating lunch.

First fail (not including dodgy handset and crap coverage): The tech working on the phone buggered up the mainboard, so we have ordered parts from Sydney so you will need to wait for a week for the parts to arrive.

Second fail: Call them after a week without the phone to find out if it is ready to pick up. Sorry, the part was not available in our warehouse, so we have ordered it from the manufacturer. It will take about 3-4 weeks to arrive.

I am pretty pissed off now, but what can you do. One would have thought that you would keep stock levels up of current phone hardware, but that would be sensible.

Third fail: Four weeks later, I still havent heard anything so I give the call centre a call to find out what my options are for getting a replacement. Unfortunately I have no option for replacement as I am on a 24 month contract, so I can buy out the remaining 21 months to pay off the handset and move to another provider at some prohibitive rate, or I can buy another handset outright and just use the sim. Not excited about either of those options, I gave the repair centre a call.

Fourth fail: Sorry, didnt someone call you to tell you your phone was ready last friday (this being the Thursday of the following week). Uhh, no...

Pick up the phone, use it for a few more months and still have exactly the same issues.

Fifth fail: Back to the repair centre, somewhat more nervously wondering how long I will be without a phone for, and advised that it will only take an hour. After another lunch at Milton, back to the repair centre and deja vu time. Exactly the same thing has happened - main board broken, no parts in the warehouse, and a month before I get my phone back.

I am normally very patient, but that was it for me. The repair centre advised that the only way I could get a replacement phone was to go through customer care, so I left and called customer care later that day. I was then told that the repair centre are the only ones who can authorise a replacement phone, but as it was now after 5 on a friday I couldnt do anything until monday.

One useful bit of information I did find out was that if you have two repairs performed on the one device, then VF are obliged to swap your handset with another to the same value or less.

I went into a retail store, and to the storepersons credit, he was very helpful in talking with the customer care people over the phone and organising a swap to a new handset, a HTC Desire.

Sixth fail: As part of the swap, they needed the old phone back. Luckily the store guy gave me the Desire so I had a phone over the weekend, but then I had to go to Milton to pick up the crap phone and take it back to the Mt Gravatt store. Got to the Mt Gravatt store and the guy I spoke to wasnt there, so they were going to give me another phone, but eventually got it sorted.

The new handset is much more reliable, but VF coverage and data speed is still woeful. We moved to Bellbird Park and now have one bar if we are lucky. My fiance is now 37 weeks pregnant, so I am just hoping that I am home when bubby decides to make his arrival because she probably wont be able to call me and who knows how quickly a SMS would go through. She was working at Griffith Uni Nathan Campus where there was also a distinct lack of coverage, so we just used email to talk rather than attempt a phone conversation.

Her contract is up in the next few months, so we will be moving away from VF. Most likely it will be to Telstra because they at least have better coverage and excellent data speeds in comparison.
7 Aug 2011 02:28:45 AM: Welcome to Draconia... (Bellbird Park) been having this problem for 2 years here

Like everyone else here I also get such bad reception that the wifi I bought is pretty much unusable. I certainly would not be able to watch a youtube clip with it. I also have a vodafone dongle which is almost as slow. Something which ought to take a couple of minutes online takes at least twenty. Pages do not load, website unavailable etc. The girl at the vodafone store told me that she had the same wifi and her reception was crap, too. Of course, nobody at the store told me this the day I bought it, only the next day when I went back. Basically, I bought something that does not work. I am a prepaid customer so do not have the contract problems many people here have. When my credit expires, that's it. So far, considering the problems I've had, my 14 GB data has lasted me seven months, though I imagine I would have used that credit by now and happily paid for more had it worked. I do not use the internet the way I would like to. It's too slow to check emails unless I have a reason to look, facebook is slow and youtube is not a realistic option for me through vodoafone. Any business genuinely interested in keeping its customers should not have its complaints dealt with in another country. Invariably they do not understand my problems, know about the offers etc. Plus, I feel it is inappropriate to complain about poor internet coverage to someone who probably lives in poverty and does not really have anything to do with vodafone beyond reading a script and pointless troubleshooting which cannot improve their coverage. So I will not complain again, as I believe Vodafone in Australia probably do not even receive my questions anyhow. I will merely switch to another internet provider that actually works.

Not only should people avoid Vodafail, people can't even rely on Nokia anymore when it comes to their smartphones. I knew Vodafone was a little dodge atm but was hoping the recent upgrades (particularly around Hornsby where I work) would improve the service. As everybody knows, this is not the case. And what makes it worse is the fact I am using the Nokia N8 which has a great camera but fails at texting, calls and general usability. Apparently my phone doesn't like the word 'disappointed' as when I type it in a text message (a frequent occurance as a Vodafail customer) the message closes without saving or sending. Worst phone, worst service. If I wanted a 12 mp camera I'd buy one. Why cant Nokia and Vodafail let me talk and text like I pay them for???
6 Aug 2011 12:47:52 AM: There's a software update for the N8 due out very soon (if not already) called Symbian Anna, it should fix your typing problems with the phone, it's overhauled the keyboard and a whole heap of things.

Have a handset, that has been repaired, came back only part working, refreshed Software, now working beetter, but still not fixed. replacement handset (SE X10i) not available (out of stock), can only get a mini - FAIL

All other SE Handsets (other than Galaxy SII) also out of stock - FAIL

SE Arc which was announced as being available in April still not available on VF - FAIL

All other handsets that are available are considered an upgrade, and require me to lock in to a 2 year contract - BIG FAIL

I'm not on a contract... think I might finally be switching.
6 Aug 2011 12:50:39 AM: All those problems are Sony Erricson's fault not Vodafone. Vodafone can't control SE stock levels, or when SE decided to make a phone end of life (as the X10 was withdrawn by SE months ago), they also aren't at fault for SE not releasing the Arc on Vodafone.

I've only been a vodafone customer for a week (when I was upgrading on 3 I was told that there won't be 3 soon so I might as well change now). I can't believe how bad vodafone is!! It shocks me that in this day and age that a network can be this bad. No matter where I am, my network drops out every 5-10 seconds. It's ridiculous! And every single call drops out. And I can never use email on my phone, it cant ever connect. I would have never believed things could be this bad. And calling overseas call centers for help is a joke!! They never have the answers - I'm getting out as soon as I can.
5 Aug 2011 09:41:22 PM: Vodaphone bought Hutchinson and ruined their name...bought 3 mobile and completely stuffed their system....getting 3 mobile to move over to Vodaphone....not a good idea...as long as their are 3 mobile customers..it has to stay online....they must notify in writing to all existing customers of 3 mobile of a change...you do NOT have to move to Vodaphone....contract cancelled when they do change it....
6 Aug 2011 12:52:47 AM: The above post is incorrect, it was a merge not a buy out, and it is true once 3's contract with Telstra ends there won't be a 3 anymore.
7 Aug 2011 11:56:23 AM: That is right..I just found out that Hutchinson and Vodaphone merged...This did result in hutchinson's poor reputation even though when they were just hutchinson...they had an excellent name.... I apologise for the incorrect information on that.... However, Vodaphone must confirm with 3 mobile contracts and you do NOT have to move to Vodaphone to keep the service....by doing so they negate the contract with 3 mobile...

Delayed SMS Messages and worst of all Very poor customer service from people that don't even know that Canberra is the capital of Australia! I am leaving Voda-no-phone and going to another provider this weekend.

Didn't Cancel My Account upon Request & listed Default on my CF. I cancelled the account in february, moved over seas in march and then they listed my account as default in July because I stopped payin... what the heck can I do about this?
4 Aug 2011 04:35:02 PM: If they had officially cancelled your account then it sounds like an error in their billing / debt collection. It would be best to contact Vodafone directly and ask them to remove the default. They should be able to correct it but if not you might have to talk to the TIO or find out which collection agency is responsible for listing the default.

Vodafail.com Moderation Team
4 Aug 2011 05:17:23 PM: I'm going through a similar thing. Rather than cancel, the service note says I was going to 'port' the number. I told them I was going to another provider - I can only assume that they assumed I wanted to keep the number. Why they would assume that for a mobile broadband service is beyond me. End state is that even though I cancelled the account, they left it active waiting for it to be 'ported'. I'm still fighting the bill and the credit default.

Service and/or internet continually drops out in Sydney CBD. Constantly have to refresh and toggle airplane mode. Very annoying. Tried to speak to customer service but they were blatantly rude to me. E.g. "if you ACTUALLY read what I said.." being very condescending and impatient. For a company that is losing hundreds of thousands of customers every month, vodafail should really get some more polite customer service staff. Changing to Amaysim as soon as my contract ends next month. Good riddance vodafail.

19056 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is rubbish!! at 4 Aug 2011 12:33:48 AM
Used to be with ThreeMobile for many years ... then after many network issues was transferred to Vodacrud, which they insisted was a 'far superior network'. Instantly noticed that Vodarubbish was far worse than Three.

While in Melbourne CBD I did have good signal .. BUT .. this didn't mean that I had good service. The internet data was soooooooooooooo slow. Webpages constantly timeout, cant access email etc. Their data backhauls must have been very congested -- what contention ratio are you running voda??

Call quality was like talking to a robot, providing that you could actually make a successful call. Another annoying thing was that I would get missed calls, even though it never rang. Tested this many times calling between 2 phones. Can't get a spare line eh?

If your looking for a new provider, take advice from everyone here ... don't be fooled by their pricing/marketing ... there is a reason why their network is so congested, and they will attempt to lock you in for 24months so that you get plenty of time fully experience the pain.

I'm glad to see that I was not the only one with phone issues. The tech support were always so confident that the service was working fine, and that 'my phone needed servicing'. What on earth needs to be serviced? Oil change, top up the fluids, check the spark plugs??!! These things are not serviceable, and any firmware/settings can be done from itunes or pushed from the network.

How on earth can they run a company like this? Why don't the industry regulators step in and put a STOP to all this? I think 24month contracts are a bad idea, and reflect a companies lack of confidence in their product (by locking you in). If you have a good product, your customers will stay! Alternatively, if your product is a Vodafail, then they will leave one way or another.

Since exiting the contract (big thanks Mr TIO), I have been on pre-paid with another provider. I only pay for what I use, if i need more then I recharge, else the money stays in my pocket. Best of all, no excess charges, no contract, can leave anytime!

i cannot receive any messages or phone calls at my own home, and they tricked me into a new contract.

i was told i could continue my contract on my phone from my 3 plan, with the new galaxy s but because i was continuing the contract i had to pay a bit extra off the phone which was fine because i knew my contract would end THIS july. However to my suprise i find out i was put on a new contract and i have to stay on this phone for ANOTHER HELLISH YEAR! i cant even talk to my friends! and what if my car breaks down, i dont get alot of reception where i live let alone the many black spots. I am so angry its not funny. If i wind up stranded because of them they are getting a serving.

19052 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is where do you start? at 3 Aug 2011 09:18:07 PM
It's reassuring, in a way to read i'm not the only person dealing with sub-standard service.

I'm on a $49/month cap for my mobile phone (iPhone 3) which has some data usage allowance - i'm not sure exactly how much because i hardly ever access the net over the mobile and, since my billing dramas started 2 weeks ago, no one at vodafone has been able to tell me !!

Vodafone sent me a letter on 27/6/11 telling me of a 'correction' to it's billing system which would see some types of internet usage attract a fee. I also have a wireless broadband account with them, and because of this wrote back to them asking them;
why they were doing this?, at what specific rate where they going charge these services at? and how they were planning to differentiate between the 'regular' and 'newly charged' types of usage.

I aslo asked for a copy of my contract (that contians my signature) with them to be sent to me ASAP.

My reply answered none of my questions. They stated a link on the MyVodafone site that i should visit, the Standard Terms of Service page. I checked it out, and there's 3 different versions of it - which one is applicable to me? I don't know, because they didn't/haven't sent me a copy of the contract as requested!!

Anyway, I then received my July account to find i'd been charged $286.65 for data usage - from my PHONE, not the wireless b/b!(My normal total for both is $90) Like i said earlier, i hardly ever use my phone for net access. I rang 'customer service' to ask what was going on, explained my situation, only to be told that i must have used the data because it's on the record and that's pretty much it.

When i asked for details, they couldn't provide any specifics because the bill hadn't been generated yet. "Really?", I asked, "then how can tell me the exact total if you don't have all the details of the charges, then?" "Um, err I'm sorry, but that's how the system works... etc."

I hit the roof when the bill was finally generated two days later.
According to Vodafone, i'd used 14mb of data and at some point went past my limit (whatever it is) and have been charged $286 as a result. Interestingly, the rate i was charged before the 'billing correction' they wrote to me about and after it is almost 4 fold. eg: before - 123kb = $3.60, after - 193kb = $12.60.

In one instance, for daily usage that i wasn't aware of, i was charged $73.80 FOR 69KB !!!!!!!!!

I've looked at my daily usage since, and there's a pattern - every 30-40 minutes, even with ALL my apps removed and me not touching my phone, i'm being charged $0.90 for 6kb of usage over 5:01 mins. Every time - $0.90,6kb, 5:01 up to twenty times a day. I can assure you, it's not me doing this!!

I'm getting my info and documents together and will be writing back to Vodafone and to the TIO to get results, because this is just plain ridiculous.

I'll take responsablity and pay for services i've used, but when you're dealing with a company that wont tell you what your entitlements are, won't answer genuine quieries to thier billing system, and charges you inconsistant and stupid costs for services you haven't used or received any benefit from, then something's gotta give..... and it won't be me!

Thanks to all who've shared thier experiences here ( amazed at the sheer number!) and to the creators of this site!!
All the best.
4 Aug 2011 07:24:17 AM: This also happened to me . refer to my post below (19034), I am being charged $250 for this months bill for data usage as well, apart from the facebook fiasco in my post below, i looked back at my records and I was charged $61 for using 132 MB data at 4AM in the morning and charged $30 for another time at 5AM a few days later. I'm sleeping at that time, and have wifi at home too so why would it use their, they tried to get out of this and stated I might have some 'auto updates'with iPhone applications, this is ridiculous.
5 Aug 2011 09:52:42 PM: question? Did you download the apps from vodaphone???? this may be why you keep getting charged even though you not using them...the system keeps the apps open...I have found many faults in their system and they ignore what I tell them...told the TIO the same thing....they are taking notice...

19047 Someone from NT thinks vodafone is Someone is lying at 3 Aug 2011 03:18:24 PM
Have struggled with Vodafone's poor network for over two years now. Probably a bit of a sucker to have signed up with another 24month contract. The optimist in me wanting to believe they could be bothered to fix their network in a regional part of Australia.

Funny thing is, around 6 months ago, the coverage got worse! Signal is less than what it used to be, making 3G useless.

Recently (last couple of months) found that the Internet has gone from dog slow to no access at all (or slower than dial up for every 10th page-load attempt).

Rang Vodafone and got told it will cost me over $800 to terminate my contract for a service they apparently think they are providing. Apparently the network issues are to do with my handset and/or sim card... even though I can duplicate the conditions on two different handsets and friends of mine are having a similar experience.

Now postponed while there is an "investigation" launched into my problems. A process which apparently takes "a month or so". The support person could not provide details as to exactly what this investigation entails, but my cynical side tells me a large part of it probably consists of doing absolutely nothing until they can come up with another reason to keep me tagging along and paying that monthly fee for a service they are not providing.

Awesome way to keep customers and improve good will.
3 Aug 2011 03:59:58 PM: $800 to terminate their contract is way too much if they can't provide the service you signed up for. It's time for the TIO - details on the 'how to complain' page. Goodluck!

3 Aug 2011 05:49:54 PM: Thanks for the advise (and the website). Have done exactly that... interesting to see what the response will be.
20 Oct 2011 03:37:30 PM: Well, after contacting the TIO, Vodafone were quite cooperative in allowing me to exit my plan. We ended up agreeing on a $300 figure.

Have now switched to Optus and can actually use my phone for data and voice calls... whilst paying less for the privilege.

Thanks again for hosting this site - it's a lifesaver resource for those stuck in this Vodafone mess.

19044 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Extremely at 3 Aug 2011 12:09:10 PM
Just spent an hour and a half discussing a mysterious charge on my current Vodafone bill, transferred through the office like a beach ball. When i tried to ask what the charges related to they advised they could not disclose the information due to their privacy act. If i am unaware of what the charges relate to and they cannot tell me how can anything be resolved? When i asked them to be removed was transferred again, but again no help. What is stopping every telephone company adding these charges and when ever there is an enquiry telling the consumer they cannot disclose it due to their own protection? What Bullsh**.

When i signed up to the original contract, it was said i would receive 3 free months, was this info ever sent to where it needed to be, don't think so, spent countless hours trying to fix this and on my 6th attempt with customer care they finally rectified the matter, not just on my account but my girlfriends also.

Handset is also busted after 8 and a half months and was told to go to Vodafone/3 repair shop and would be fixed in an hour, when i got there they told me to go back to the shop where i originally purchased it, did so and when i went back the girl behind the counter couldnt understand as to why i was back again... yet another blunder

Vodashi* in my mind... waiting now on a call back from the TIO after leaving another message, can these guys get anything right?
5 Aug 2011 10:19:10 PM: ask them to quote clause and verse of the Privacy Act and watch them choke....why??? because it doesn't exist....charges on your account after confirmation as account holder Pricay Act doesn't exist....they MUST tell you....

(refer 18756)you would be better of with 2 cans and a length of string.I have recently been released from 2yr contract 6 weeks in after lengthy conversations and multiple excuses from vodafone customer service supervisor.
For those of you sick of your service simply ask vodafone customer service what their interpretation of MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS is, because its surely not the same as their customers who buy mobile phones to use primarily as a contact tool.
So then when you get the usual act dumb reaction from the CS rep let them know that you now intend to use your PHONE-JAMMER, when they ask what that is, tell them: Its where you take the phone back to the Vodafone store and JAM it up someones arse!. (I'm sure I heard the VF CS rep giggling in the background) Anyhow stay with or join Telstra for hassle free phone coms its worth that little bit extra (especially for emergencies) as we are all finding out...

19034 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Failed. at 2 Aug 2011 09:31:07 PM
Hi,
Being a loyal customer who has never had any problems with Vodafone for the past 6 years or so. I am frustrated that Facebook was advertised as being free on my plan. However, after calling customer service when I realized I was well over my cap from data usage with Facebook, they stated that Facebook was only free through accessing 'm.facebook.com' and not through the iPhone application I had downloaded. Vodafone clearly needs to be more clear cut with data usage information.
3 Aug 2011 07:40:46 AM: This is something I think a lot of people would not be aware of!!

In a weird way I find this the most disgusting this of all as this clearly is misleading the public.

Please send an email to fairfax or sydney morning herald. I am sure they would want to pick up on this story.
3 Aug 2011 09:10:48 AM: It is disgusting, out of all the iPhone users out there on Vodafone, how many would know this? A large majority of my friends have iPhones and are with Vodafone yet did not know this until I informed them.Ridiculous.
3 Aug 2011 12:28:25 PM: That is really bad, it would be worth sending in a tip to SMH or http://delimiter.com.au/anonymous-tips/ so they can check this out and let more people now.

Vodafail.com Moderation Team
3 Aug 2011 03:56:52 PM: Just done. Been thinking about this and one might argue that they did not know the increased traffic after the merge might cause all the problems they did and that moving the call centre to Mumbai caused more teething problems than they expected. These are the reasons I have been giving myself to stay with them as the unlimited plan was a pull.

The above though is just blatant manipulation of the truth. I have had it now with these guys. I am all for competition in the market place and hate monopolies but feel that Vodafone either has to

1) Make a change at the top and clearly sort out their culture
2) Stop lying to the public and admit they got it wrong and are still getting it wrong
3) Bring back the call centre from Mumbai and show Australians that they actually care by creating local jobs and as such is a way of 'giving back' to the economy
4) Sort out the false advertising which is nothing short of zero integrity
3 Aug 2011 04:13:32 PM: Yea, it has been 5 months since they announced their network and customer service upgrades. Although it took them years of underinvestment in their network for it to degrade so badly so I imagine it will take them a few years to sort everything out. They just can't expect everyone to hang around that long while they get it fixed.

The call centre definitely needs to come back to Australia. When it's night time in India and day time in Australia, someone from Australia should be able to answer the phone.

3 Aug 2011 05:29:05 PM: Hi,
I'm the original poster of this and was just wondering If anyone could help me out, I am currently over my bill by $250, evidently from data usage with facebook. When I called customer service, they simply stated I had to pay for the bill since it was my fault for accessing it via the iPhone app and not via "m.facebook.com". This is a huge amount considering I usually pay $47 for my plan and Iphone ($29 cap). Everyone I know that is connected with Vodafone and has an iPhone has been accessing it through the iPhone application. Thanks
3 Aug 2011 07:59:15 PM: Hmmm...if you can't use the apps then their terms and conditions lie.

I have the prepaid brochure next to me and it says:
Unlimited mobile access to Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn and Foursquare is only available within Australia and only if accessed via the sites: mobile web sites (m.facebook.com, m.myspace.com, m.twitter.com, m.linkedin.com, m.foursquare.com), Vodafone Central or official applications for compatible handsets from the sites using Vodafone Live access point (APN).

Note that is says official applications for the compatible handsets so you shouldn't be charged any extra data. The only thing it calls out is the use of 3rd party applications.

Postpaid sould have similar terms and conditions
3 Aug 2011 08:31:31 PM: Thanks for pointing that out! It seems ambiguous since it says the application must be accessed using "Vodafone Live access point".
4 Aug 2011 08:35:34 AM: The access point (APN) is just the Internet settings for the phone. If you can access the Internet using Vodafone then you are using the correct APN.
4 Aug 2011 09:04:24 AM: Then I am using it correctly. However, after calling customer service 3 times, and making them read these term conditions above, they still seem to insist the only correct way to access facebook for free is via "m.facebook.com". This is absurd.
4 Aug 2011 09:15:58 AM: Yea it does sound like you are correct and that using the iPhone app shouldn't be charged. The app would actually use less data than the mobile site so you would think they would be happy. Just be persistent and tell them you are going to the TIO if they can't resolve this because it is a breach of the terms and conditions you signed up to.

If they still don't want to remove the charges then you can file a complaint with the TIO. They will have someone from vodafone call you within 10 days to sort it out.

I was charged $61 for using data at 4am in the morning and $30 at 5am - I would be sleeping at these times and I have wifi at home so I don't know what these charges are for. Customer service stated it was from some 'auto updates' with the iPhone, but if that was the case, wouldn't it just use my wifi?

Major Incompentence on the part of Network Architects & Admins...
What is going on there..??

I have to flood ping a gateway or DNS server for like 20 secs to wake up a "sleeping switch port" (oversubscribed) to get some level of throughput...

The oversubscription model is not designed with the underlying infrastructure capabilities in mind...

I suspect the underlying debt ratio (financial business model) is heavily reliant on an unrealistic oversubscription model to generate the required revenue streams capable of servicing the underlying debt facility...

What has been experienced to date is typical of short-term improvements (a reduced oversubscription model) in performance which coincidently disappear once media has changed it's focus from Vodafone (VF) and the VF propaganda machine has blurted out how committed it is to customers and network improvements while re-establishing the previous oversubscription ratios because the underlying debt facility requires it...

The root cause is not in the technology, it's in the financial business model that supports VF...

Nearly all business use debt facilities to provide operating cashflows, but, a carrier like Telstra has invested nearly $4 billion in it's 3G network, but they have chosen to offer less value for money to end-users but provide superior network coverage and performance using an oversubscription rate that is aligned to the underlying capabilities of the network platform architecture...

Fix the root cause of the problem and you would win a base of loyal customers committed to a business that is committed to providing performance and value...

Definitely no improvements since the media firestorm of some months ago....

19024 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is FAILLLLL! at 2 Aug 2011 12:01:48 PM
Been with Vodafone with my iPhone 3GS for over a year and no issues... been really happy until a few weeks ago when I received an email saying that, based on my usage, I may incur additional charges based upon a new charging policy that means Vodafone would start charging for some things it hasn't previously charged for (such as visiting Websites that require you to enter login details). Okaaaay... not happy, but fair enough I would just change my usage habits.
Coincidentally, a few weeks later (ie, at the end of July) my internet and email speeds on my iPhone 3Gs have dropped to a snail's speed. Sllooooooow internet loading times, emails with attachments that take forever to download (a 400kb attachment took nearly 15 minutes to download this morning) and sometimes I can't even connect to the AppStore or iTunes. Been going on for about a week now...
On the phone to Vodafone now...

19023 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is How embarassing... at 2 Aug 2011 11:47:10 AM
Whilst speaking to a customer representative yesterday (my 3rd in this particular call) she mentioned that she was struggling to hear me. Why was this? I think we know why... I had no service in my office in the middle of Sydney's CBD!!!

The CR then asked if she could phone me back on my landline number - Amazing. I guess it helps my case right?

When she rung back I was told that I'd be passed to the retention team. Looking forward to the thought of speaking with my 4th representative of the call I was disappointed to hear that the 'Technical Team' were unable to speak to me because of a 'Technical Issue' and that someone would call me back in 24-48 hours. How embarrassing...

24 hours on and nothing. I'm not surprised, just more motivated to leave this joke of a company - More power to me! (just not to my phone signal).
2 Aug 2011 12:34:11 PM: she had to call you back on a landline - oh the irony

Vodafone has loss of up to 300,000 customers !!!!!

The following is part of the news from The Australian newspaper --

"VODAFONE Hutchison Australia is today expected to reveal an exodus of mobile customers from its network, with analysts tipping the departure of up to 300,000 in the six months to June 30".

Full report can be found at --
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/australian-it/telecommunications/mobile-exodus-from-vodafone-as-analysts-tip-the-loss-of-up-to-300000-customers/story-fn4iyzsr-1226106225824

My congratulations to the person who started this website. It goes to show the "power of one" and the effect that one person can have when you get the information out.

2 Aug 2011 09:15:55 AM: if they have lost that many why has the network not started too improve!!!!!!!!!! but i must say that i was on thursday island last week & i had signal just wasn't voda
2 Aug 2011 09:27:57 AM: it hasn't improved because they're still marketing like crazy... they con people into joining and a month later, once they've found out about all the problems, the customer leaves. if you get a phone just for show, and you don't actually ever use it, you'll be fine with Vodacon. But if you ever want to use it to make a call you'll have to go elsewhere, that's why people are leaving, because some people, some strange, strange people, want to make phone calls.

mind you, every time someone leaves it's not simple, you have to learn another language in order to converse with "customer service", you'll be subjected to their baboon-like manners, and finally, when you've negotiated till you thought you couldn't anymore, you'll discover the coveted TIO, who will get you out within 10 days. Now, about 40 days or so after you were first looking for a phone carrier, you are back to where you started, and you can then go to Telstra, Optus or one of the others.

This is the cycle and it's worse than water torture.

Voda is a waste of time, waste of money and a waste of space.
2 Aug 2011 10:12:31 AM: Thanks, I originally started the website to get my personal Vodafone problems sorted out but I'm really happy that I've been able to spend some time on it and help everyone else out as well. I don't think of it as the power of one though, if all of you didn't share your stories and speak up to Vodafone then nothing would have been done.

It shows that when we come together to solve a problem, we can achieve a lot more. Vodafone has said they are investing heavily in their network (now) but I imagine it will take a couple years before all their customers see the benefits.

19020 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is standard at 1 Aug 2011 08:27:15 PM
Vodafone are standard ya'll are trippin, service is aite 3g better then the optus network, i was with voda complained to the TIO got out of my contract fairly easy which is less then i can say at telstra or optus, basically just took advantage of the bad press that all you suckas are doing, with Virgin now using the optus network... its shit, doesnt have the constant drop outs that voda had a while back but will get distorted calls every say 5 calls, occasionally will drop out, 3g is farkin aweful and i live in metro sydney.

used to work at Optus then moved to voda... swear optus had a site like this a few years back, also got a million customer calling complaining about the network.... its just sh*t in australia atm sorry only decent is telstra and they cost an arm and leg.. voda have the best deals hands down.. IMO

19015 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Extreme at 1 Aug 2011 04:38:43 PM
Poor quality service, minimal reception even though they swear there are no issues in my area, continual invoice issues with my 2 VF bills. You ring up and complain - so to ease the pain they offer a reduced (better)plan - then charge you for a plan change - then deduct $1500 from your account for cancellation of contract. WTF Vodafail BIG TIME!!!! I WANT OUT!

I have a telstra sim in my ipad and it doesnt go below 3 bars - vodafone No Sevice

19014 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Useless time wasters at 1 Aug 2011 01:38:28 PM
Sent an official complain to e-mail listed on VF site. Complain was for 7 different points of over billing and miss handling of the account.
This was substantiated by 15 pages written communication between VF and us.
Received an automated resolution for something that is totally unrelated and saying that case resolved.
How far can they go to turn away any remaining customers

19011 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is txt messages 3 days late. no coverage. $500 excess internet charges on mobile. Very poor coverage in my area. etc.. etc.. at 1 Aug 2011 12:53:03 PM
Vodafone are charging me for 1300 calls - on a $45 'infinite' plan, plus calls to retrieve my own voicemails, and to 3 customer care. On top of this, my 1gb of mobile broadband is 3 times slower - when I even get reception - than dial up internet. I had to download onto my phone because the internet on the computer was not working at all - then I get a txt saying I owe them $497 in excess usage charges !!!! I spend an hour or so on the phone every week trying to get help from them - being constantly told to go online to see the fine print of my phone contract, then I will understand all the charges - but I can't get into my account due to the online internet being completely unreliable !!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH. Was with 3 for over 12 years prior to this - without one problem. I want out of this contract.
1 Aug 2011 10:43:29 PM: The TIO can help you get out of your contract and hopefully fix up that terrible bill as well. Check out their details on the 'How to complain' page.

19009 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is doing it again at 1 Aug 2011 08:30:42 AM
It's happening again.
Calls and txts not getting through. Phone 'disappears' off network after a while and you have no idea it's happened until you try to make a call and get network busy. Then re boot phone and find messages and calls have not been getting through.

19008 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is Very_+_Deceitful at 1 Aug 2011 01:36:09 AM
Vodafone pretty poor through out year - keep telling me it's my fault - told them I'm a tech and trapped them on sooo many issues - which seemed to frustrate them immensely - last two months _pityful - the more I phoned in the bigger it got until today when I finally relented and gave an address really close to me [ coz I dont trust them in India anymore] - then it totally failed - supervisor offers new modem/sim free / then says no its the network but refused to answer me if it was all of wa or my area - then said my area poss out coz getting many many calls from my area with bad coverage - seemed Dodgy to me - suspect blocking of sim [ from data received from me today to ?enable? service request to fix - MaB by next friday] Don't believe because I trapped them by using diff modem just up the road. [and mine? - No Network] - and used at my house = other modem OK 3G - mine No Network.mine previous switching between HSDPA/EDGE/3G all the time - but never downloads on 3G - switches to HSDPA immediately - Constant dropouts _ disconnections for hours - voda sez its to fix /upgrade - then seems shaped to between 87 - 400 kbps MaB 800kbps if lucky afta -- pages loading worse than dialup - constant exit/reconnect or reinstall - but only lasts for a short while Have wasted more than 5Hrs on them today 31.7.2011 - Bad Bad Voda - sooo much more to tell - Grrr!!!

19006 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is 100% at 1 Aug 2011 12:19:37 AM
I signed up in Feb of this year with IPHONE 4 on that $49 unlimited deal. I had the phone for a couple of months before I started cracking the shits due to poor coverage I called up and spent hours on hold to finally speak to someone. They ran test and everything and couple of weeks later I had to call back because they said they would call me but they didn't. So when I called them they offerred me everything 3 months for free, Discounts on my bills. I said to VODAFONE that, That was a nice thing but there is no point with the poor coverage. In the end they said they would send out a recovery bag for My Iphone 4 to send it back and they would cancel the contract free of charge. It has now been 6 months and I have not received my recovery bag and I have rang up a couple of times to get it.
Yet still have not received it every time I have tried to call in the last month or two I spend ages on hold and then get disconnected but now when I ring I get DUE TO HIGH NUMBER OF CALLS WE CANNOT TAKE YOUR CALL AT THE MOMENT! What is that crap about?
They have sent me a disconnection bill of over $1000 and I cannot get a hold of this pathetic company! I think I will take this up with the TIO!
