Dear visitor,
Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant
contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced
by Vodafone customers.
Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders.
You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.
Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.
More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly.
Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints.
The site will remain online for as long as possible as a
reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.
It has been a privilege to run this initiative
and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In
particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their
continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.
You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.
Until next time,
Adam Brimo

I always thought that there must be bad reception at my house and at my office. Now after vodafail I realise that maybe it is Vodafone is the problem. So many times I am talking to my niece and she says "I can't hear you" I always thought "must be because I am on a bus/train". Actually there is bad reception everywhere.
14100 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Lara at 22 Jan 2011 05:54:36 AM
I don't like Lara. Many times with the automatic voice system it says I will just put you through. Then the voice says "you have been put through to the wrong area, you should dial 1555" and then it hangs up on me. I had dialled 1555 originally and it took 40 minute of my time to tell me that I need to dial 1555!!!!!!
14099 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is 20 years of fail at 22 Jan 2011 05:33:30 AM
I live in the northern beaches of sydney and constantly get drop outs and low or no service! The biggest issue is lack of infrastructure in that this has been a problem for years.... i even went into a Vodafone store to inquire and state that I will be leaving in March when contract is up. The store manager then piped up and stated that a new tower was due for the ingleside area. It is hard to believe that it would ever happen. As of March im gone....
14098 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Compounding Fail at 22 Jan 2011 05:24:36 AM
Now even when I log on to pay and view my bills, I can't even do that. It tells me twice that my password is incorrect, then on the third attempt with the same password it works. The entire system is garbage. Really obscenely bad customer service. INternet that won't work. No replys to emails, no joy on the phone, website that won't allow bills viewed or account status viewed. These guys should be out of business.
14097 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Terrible reception at 22 Jan 2011 05:23:03 AM
I am sick of this i never have reception for like 3hours at a time. I keep trying to make calls but get service not available which is a load of crap then why does my phone have full bar reception showing. Also i can never get reception to get onto the internet. This is ridiculous now i know how vodafone make their money but getting people on plans and not letting them use any of their cap usage! I am wasting my money paying for a service i cant even use. Get your act together vodafone! management need their rich asses booted out on the streets! Wake up vodafone this is daylight robbery!!!
14096 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is reception at 22 Jan 2011 03:05:34 AM
Hi again, I work in Potts Point, NSW, just near King's Cross. My vodafone deal stated that I would be entitled to reception (perhaps a small ask), but on countless occasions I was able to receive a call, then a message like 'service unavailable'. Then, I moved out of the office to a make a call. Boy, my 'phone bill was high. So I'm faced with a mostly useless, expensive service... For what? My money! And when I call to complain, it costs, unless I call the 1555 number. This often takes 20-30 minutes or more, with no guarantee of a good outcome. It's the "faceless vodafone" syndrome. After several emails, a chap called Dirk kindly reduced my $338 bill by $100. Still, that's not enough. I want to get out of my vodafone contract ASAP
14095 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is on a scale of 1-melbourne storm, the're the storm at 22 Jan 2011 02:39:21 AM
Over a month ago we have contacted both VF and the TIO to get the contracts stopped. After going through the TIO we got someone from VF to cancel the contracts and at the time we were simply going to upgrade our handsets and stay with VF.... that was until they told us that as existing customers we would need to wait at least a month before those phones might be available to us. As such we called back to cancel everything. We straight out said to the rep we just want to cancel it and not speak to retention at all. The rep refused to cancel and instead (after already waiting 65mins for the initial callback, put us through to retention who after waiting 45mins on hold simply hung up on us. Took all this information to the TIO who are now going to cancel everything for us however that might take 4 weeks "Due to the volume of complaints received"
22 Jan 2011 02:12:11 PM: Just curious, why did you go to the TIO to cancel your contract if you just wanted to resign? Was it just for a new phone? I don't mean to be rude but was the TIO neccessary in the start? I say this as someone who has also gone to the TIO and is still waiting "Due to the volume of complaints received"
14094 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is at 22 Jan 2011 02:09:33 AM
You think vodaphone customer support is ridiculous, Virgin aint much better. Im thinking of starting up a virginfail site. Customer support is horindous.
22 Jan 2011 03:32:38 AM: hi there I was with vodafone about a year ago, and had my contract cancelled for all the usual reasons as listed on this site, I went to virgin, and have been with them since, I have to be honest and say I have found virgin to be exceptional and loved the customer service. I was up and running within 30 mins of connecting to virgin. This was about a year ago, however my use is very basic, and not complex, so I haven't had to use customer service for over 12 months, and for the record my phone under virgin has dropped out once, and that was because I was in a train going through tunnel.
22 Jan 2011 04:35:44 AM: Would you beleive I have been trying for 6 months to return a phone that I didnt want. I wont go into particulars as the story in to long. But anyway they now tell me it was returned when I still have in sitting in front of me..lol
22 Jan 2011 09:42:30 AM: what does horindous mean?
22 Jan 2011 10:20:51 AM: You suck
14093 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is 100% at 22 Jan 2011 12:11:35 AM
I recieved a text MSG from them saying your bill is going to be $179 (from a $69 cap) due to usage outside of your cap MSG **** for more information. So I MSG that number and recieve a text saying this number is currently unavailable please try again later (I wonder if they'll charge for both msgs...) so I call the number and recieve a detailed outline of my cap which says I have $393 of $400 'credit' available! So I call information for a WTF and get told 'sorry we cannot access that information as we are generating a bill for you, please call back in 7 days' WTF PEOPLE??!! 7 days to explain what you are doing?! Apparantly there is NO ONE within the company that could answer my question! ALSO I have the typical reception issues, i do have to say that my reception was fine up until a few months ago just after my son was born now it only works if I disable my 3G connection and only sometimes. I have people recieving msgs at 3am that I sent at 3pm - some only recieve half the MSG and some not at all. The icing on the cake was tonight, I had a car issue and was too scared of risking driving it home just in case I couldn't use my phone that I left it at a friends and she drove me home - at midnight! Now this was just movies with a mate - what if I was out with my 4month old son and I broke down in the 30 degree heat? It scares me, the whole purpose of my phone is redundant. END RANT! thank you website for letting me get this out!
23 Jan 2011 09:26:13 AM: You cant dispute a charge until they have actually generated the bill to give you something to dispute ..
14092 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is epic. at 22 Jan 2011 12:05:05 AM
choosing vodafone is possibly the worst decision i have ever made. i regret choosing them every single day. i drop out of service in most places and become un contactable. if only i wasnt locked in to a contract for another year. worst. network. ever.
22 Jan 2011 12:07:51 AM: Check out the 'how to complain' link at the top of the page and escalate your problems to the TIO, they will be able to assist you out of your contract
14091 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is line drop. at 21 Jan 2011 11:48:42 PM
my partner and i got interested in vodafone deal of unlimited txt and calls i was bit execptical about how can a company make those claims im sure there was a hidden fee but no there wasnt i was confident moving from optus to vodafone will be better for the pocket i was wrong. first day was ok but i notice that the bar on my signal keep dropping sometime is full and sometime is just one bar and when do make a call the other person cant hear me or my voice is cut out and i have to repeat it. i never had any problem with optus line always was clear and realible. i will wait for 3month if vodafone doesnt change then i will try to leave on the ground that they cant provide a good service.
14090 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is F- at 21 Jan 2011 11:08:24 PM
Vodafone's pricing is pretty good but their network coverage and speed in all non-metropolitan areas on the west coast are a joke. I'd be better off with dial up rather than use the pre-paid wireless "broadband" stick I brought. They should really be called "wireless dial-up" sticks :P
21 Jan 2011 11:18:42 PM: network coverage in metropolitan areas is also a joke
14089 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is random at 21 Jan 2011 11:07:57 PM
happy to add my voice to all the others. I live in an isolated backwater called Randwick, and my iPhone spends more time "Searching" or "No Service" than actually connected to anything.
Only positive is that most the time my wife cannot contact me. Damn.
Got better reception during a recent trip to Noumea than I ever get here: despite Cyclone Vania!!
Thing is, generally complaining doesn't help. There are three ways to get your point across 1) with your feet, as you walk away, 2) with your wallet, as you close it, and 3) at the ballot box
I wouldn't be paying Vodaphone the compliment of actually complaining, because that betrays a naive faith that they would do something about it. Any company that allows its name to be as trashed as this clearly is being run by fools and clearly will not survive.
Make room down there in that grave OneTel, here comes Voda

14087 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is failing to deliver stardard terms of agreement‏ as per their website at 21 Jan 2011 10:15:00 PM
I'm on a Vodafone $100 per month infinite plan and experience about a 40% dropout rate. That is, 40% of the calls I make and receive drop out mid-conversation. This rate is higher when I call other mobile phones whose carrier is Vodafone.
As somebody whose business relies so heavily on a working mobile phone network, signing onto this contract is one of the worst decisions I've ever made. So bad in fact, that I've asked Vodafone to release me from the contract because they have breached their Standard Terms of Agreement, which can be found here: http://www.vodafone.com.au/stelprd/groups/webcontent/documents/webcontent/dev_007573.pdf .

14085 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Dealers putting in false data at 21 Jan 2011 10:01:44 PM
We were contacted by a vodafone agent a few months ago and offered a new phone on a 2 year plan. The wife said yes and received the phone. The paper work contained fraudulant details, including phone numbers that were supposed to be our home number but was an interstate number, false email addresses and other details. For the month that she had it she was unable to make phone calls the majority of the time. The free 3 months and $10 off per month was not provided as promised and we spent hours on the phone getting this added to our account. That took many phone calls to finally sort out. We also spent hours on the phone on our weekend trying to contact customer service in regards to not been able to make phone calls. On one phone call to customer service they hung up on us after they were unable to resolve our complaint. That was very rude! In the end we went to the ombudsman. So then vodafone called us (I dont know how they managed to get through with their rubbish network), the guy on the phone blamed my wife for the network issues and said that he would send her a simpler phone if she couldnt work out how to use the one she had. In the end we had the contract cancelled thanks to the ombudsman. Stay away from vodaphone!
24 Jan 2011 01:31:02 AM: This is really serious. It really is. And once again, it seems the TIO has helped Vodaphone escape serious legal consequences for their behaviour.
That is more a Police matter- fraud- than a consumer issue. Also, had you any previous relationship with this agent? If not, why did he contact you?

14084 Someone from TAS thinks vodafone is All Carriers Have Issues at 21 Jan 2011 09:59:19 PM
Hey Everyone, this is my first and last visit to Vodafail, being both a Telstra and Optus customer I thought I would see what all the media is about and I must say i have had a number of issues with both my Telstra and Optus services, including slow data speeds, billing issues, waiting on hold for customer service for in excess of an hour, customer service and stores recommending the wrong plan to get the sale and it keeps on going.
No matter what service you are on I think that you will have issues of some sort and that is just life, nothing is perfect, as no one is perfect. I can't believe that Vodafone is the only company that seems to be vindicated like this website has. Maybe all carriers should have a fail site, and maybe someone should independently start a "WIN" site for all companies too.
Thinking of that why is there no "Woolworthsfail" or "juliagillardfail" site, then everyone can whinge about everything.
Reading some of the messages on here really make me feel like Australians are becoming more like the Whinging Poms, be Australian and pat those who do well on the back and help things get better in a constructive way.

21 Jan 2011 10:03:37 PM: Who wants to lay money this is yet another Vodafone Employee?
21 Jan 2011 10:15:20 PM: Sorry to let you down champ but no I don't work for them and no I do not have a service with them. I think this whole idea of just complaining is just ridiculous and wonder what better things there are for people to do. Enjoy your time on here, I personally have better things to do.
21 Jan 2011 10:21:36 PM: Well you may think it is ridiculous, yet you came to visit the site. Not just that you came back to visit again after you said it would be your last visit.
Anyway, I guess you can't be a vodafone employee, as even they will tell you the NextG network is far superior to any other 3G service in Aus. So if you are truly with them and experiencing issues, you seem to be the only one I have heard of.
However all of that is irrelevant, as this site was created to show Vodafone customers they are not alone, and low and behold it has so far brought 13,000 people together that share an equal amount of frustration with the Network.
Whilst you may think it is ridiculous, many don't including the Australian Communications Consumer Actions Group: http://www.accan.org.au/news_item_full.php?id=128
;)
Anyway, if you have better things to do, I am sure you are off doing them instead of typing up a reply to this.

21 Jan 2011 10:29:49 PM: This is NOT about "having a whinge". Here something in business that is known as a "transaction": You pay for a service, that service is delivered at an acceptable standard.
If you bought 100 apples at the grocery store, only to find 50 of them were rotten on the inside when you arrived home, you would conclude that the grocery store has not provided the service you paid for (i.e. 100 edible, non-rotten apples). If, however, you found only 4 of them to be rotten and then demanded the grocery store replace them, you would of course be within you rights, but may then be considered as, as you put it, "having a whinge".
At the moment, Vodafone delivers a service with a 40-50% call dropout rate. This is in comparison to the other Telcos, whose dropout rate is estimated at less than 10%. Vodafone is not delivering services to an acceptable standard, whereas Optus, Telstra et al are.
THAT is why this site exists.

22 Jan 2011 05:58:11 AM: I thought he said it was the last time he was visiting the site....why are u checking the comments!!! LOL. Ill take that bet for vodafone employee.
22 Jan 2011 08:48:33 AM: I have teltra. No problems in Tassie. Wife has vodaphone...terrible coverage even in Launceston.
22 Jan 2011 09:18:02 AM: Definitely from a prissy Vodafone employee. The poster is from Tassie where they have a call centre. The failure of Vodafone in Australia is indefensible. Voda employees if you love your company so much go and start your own website and call it VODALOVE or some such shite.
22 Jan 2011 02:07:24 PM: Everyone that expresses an opinion that's different from mine must be a Vodafone employee.
23 Jan 2011 07:08:48 PM: Yeah dirty Vodafone employees with their damned differences of opinion.
24 Jan 2011 07:37:28 AM: i don't have a vodafone service too i've got an optus service, and living in tassie the serivce is not all that cracked up to be, slow internet speeds 350kbs thats not broadband speed, and sometime it doesn't connect, living blackmans bay i get 2g - 3g at my house there sometime no signal and there a tower just up the road, so it show that it not just Vodafone, was in kettering the other week with a friend also on optus i had 3g, on his phone no service a 2g phone only, so yeah
24 Apr 2011 10:32:09 PM: I have vodafone mobile and I have telstra Internet .. It I guess depends on where you live as to the speed.. My mobile rarely drops out.. Recently I tried mbb and it worked fine... I am an EX staff member please don't hold this against me !!!!! And I can tell you from the inside .. They don't care and they are pushing sales like you wouldn't believe even know they know their network will not hold any more.. Don't even bother with customer care go straight to the TIO this will then get you out of your contract.. Going through customer care will only get you frustrated... Going through the TIO will force the voda staff to man up their TIO dept again and just start letting you out of the contract just to get through their complaints

14082 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is an extreme fail with poor advice to assist customers at 21 Jan 2011 09:55:43 PM
a year ago i got my phone unlocked which led me internetless as i had to configure my own connection settings as i did not know the details of the fancy technical details for vodafone live. eleven months later i finally took action and approached my local vodafone dealer to solve my problem. unfortunately the unenthusiastic employee advised me to call customer service. to my knowledge calling them would lead to hours being put on hold and in the end i would eventually be paying a hidden fee for the call. to my surpise i resolved my own issue by simply logging onto the vodafone website which had all my answers within seconds.

I have major reception problems and I live close to the Sydney CBD. I was outside Star City the other day and had zero reception and couldn't receive an important call. Also have delayed texts and voicemail and call drop outs. I've had ENOUGH!! What the hell am I paying for?? I'm changing carriers tomorrow. Good riddance VF
14080 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Dropped calls & reception issues at 21 Jan 2011 09:43:44 PM
I changed to VF 2 years ago and regret the day I signed the contract. I've had problems since that first day. I live 10 minutes from the CBD in Adelaide and my phone constantly drops out. Friends say they text me messages that I hardly ever get or they appear hours later. I work in the city of Adelaide and I sometimes do or sometimes don't get reception in my office. I've got 2 months to go and I can't wait to get out of this terrible nightmare...good bye VF

I bought the vodafone usb modem from DSE on the weekend for $99 with 12 gb data. I'm currently in Wollongong, NSW.
The download speeds I'm getting are around the 15-20 KB/s mark, it even takes ages for google to load. This is driving me crazy.

14076 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Just step back and think about it at 21 Jan 2011 09:23:07 PM
I think that all you vodafone customers that are having problems with your service should all just step back and think about what you are saying. Out of the three top talco's that been (Telstra, Optus and vodafone) Vodafone is the only one that was able to finally provide customers with unlimited call and texts and a new phone for $45, now at the end of the day when you have all finish having a cry to vodafone you might consider the fact yes you maybe getting call drops but at the same time you are paying alot less for alot more. Everyone knows that Telstra has the best coverage, you all new that when you signed up for a voda contract that it would not match to telstra's coverage, so it is really your fault that you are too cheap to spend the extra, i personally have had all of the problems described with vodafone and with three, however i do not complain because i like paying less even if it means call drops. You have all got to consider Vodafone's situation that they are currently preparing their network including merging of three hardware with voda, to cope with all the new customers plus all the ones from three so i would expect there to be some issues . I believe that things will get a lot worse before they get better and when they do get better aussie people will finally have descent coverage without having to pay through the roof IE TELSTRA.
21 Jan 2011 09:37:59 PM: Take a step back you SAY and get jammed in the ass, Pay $180 a month for no internet and no calls Get a Life!! you say pay them money and be happy your getting a cheap deal Typical cop it sweet attitude
21 Jan 2011 09:43:37 PM: Hahahaham $45 for an infinite service that you can barely use is not good value. Nor could it be classed as a Telco, as that would imply you could make calls (something that can't be done on Vodafone due to no coverage or constant dropped calls).
Telstra pricing is by far the best option as it is similar to the rest, but yet with the best coverage and performance.

21 Jan 2011 10:12:35 PM: What good is an infinite plan if all you're doing the whole time is calling people back, or can't access the 3G network you paid for?
Regardless of whether Vodafone's customers are happy with cheap plans, if Vodafone are going to provide a service with a 30-40% dropout rate, they need to inform the customers that frequent call dropouts and a generally substandard network is what they are signing up for. I'm not saying that Vodafone should be forced to advertise themselves as a shitty network. Rather, they should NOT be presenting themselves as a great network, which is what they're doing at the moment (see www.vodafone.com.au).

21 Jan 2011 11:15:33 PM: Vodafone coverage where I live is so bad my phone does not even ring when someone calls me so I moved to Telstra and now get 4 of 5 signal bars! I pay more but at least my phone rings now!
21 Jan 2011 11:27:54 PM: The thing is that there was a misrepresentation in the first instance.
Pay for a Merc expect a Merc. Pay for a Hyundai expect a Hyundai. But where in the specification sheets did Vodaphone forewarn us that our dollars would be paying for a service with such pathetic cover and such frequent call failure?
Misrepresentation.
I bought a phone service. Not a lottery ticket with an actual successful call as the prize.
And, no, I don't have to consider Vodaphone's situation. Vodahone have to consider Vodaphone's situation, and I have to consider *my* situation. If Vodaphone could not run and merge with 3 without creating this disaster, they ought never have proceeded. It's called due diligence. Therefore, their situation, as you put it, is of their own making. Their due diligence failed. Their planning and forecasting has been manifestly inadequate. and you can bet if any of their suppliers were as hopeless to them as they have been to their customers, they would be first to cut the supplier.

14074 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Vodafone are the Chuck Norris of FAIL at 21 Jan 2011 09:19:59 PM
Where do I start?!
I am attempting to run a small business and made the critical mistake of choosing Vodafone when I moved to Sydney, for my internet and mobile. BAD MOVE, and one which I will NEVER EVER make again - once the last contract runs out in March I will never ever use Vodafone ever again for anything at all, ever.
ISSUE 1: Hardware
In I 2008 bought a Vodafone-brand phone for $60 to use with vodafone prepay. Within 3 months it simply stopped working - it would start vibrating for no reason at all (even with vibrate set to "off") - no call or sms, just vibration; it turned itself off for no reason - particularly when the battery was fully charged (when it was low it was more reliable). I moved to Sydney in 2009 and immediately got an iPhone with vodafone for $80/month, plus a USB modem for Vodafone roaming wireless internet, thinking I'd be sorted, living as I do IN THE MIDDLE (2000) OF THE BUSIEST CITY IN AUSTRALIA. Think again...
ISSUE 2: VODAFONE
I live in The Rocks, next to Circular Quay, in the CBD of Sydney, a city with millions of people. Since moving here I have not had a single conversation on my BRAND NEW IPHONE at or anywhere near my home which has not dropped out several times. I'll be on a bus on George Street, just down from Central Station, and the signal will drop out. I'll be in bloody HYDE PARK and the signal cuts out. I'll be somewhere and it shows five bars of signal - so I'll call and then within minutes it will drop to no bars for NO REASON AT ALL as I haven't moved.
My "VODAFONE USB roaming wireless" was so crap - i.e. non-existent - that they actually ended up refunding me the money I'd paid for that particular contract and cancelled it. I LIVE IN THE SYDNEY CBD!!!! Hello!!! You can't provide bloody wireless internet in the densest suburb of the country! FAIL!
Oh, and then we have issue #3:
VOICEMAIL IS DOWN (but we won't bother telling you, nor tell you when it is working again) issue:
I have an iphone.
Towards the middle of 2010, I kept getting calls from people asking whether I'd got the message they left two weeks ago. I hadn't. After a few of these I called VF and told them of the problem. They then told me it was my fault (!) for not checking my messages, that yes, there were messages waiting to be heard. But I had set everything to "download" (or whatever) the voicemail messages automatically onto the phone itself so I could keep them, and replay them later without making any calls to a voicemail number. They said "Oh, that's called 'visual voicemail'. Yes, we've been having problems with that lately".
"How lately?" I asked, and then, for her benefit, also answered "about two weeks?" and she agreed. "Yes, about two weeks".
I insisted she make sure this conversation was being recorded and that it be played to a supervisor as soon as possible.
"So you are telling me your voicemail service, part of what I'm paying for, has stopped working, I've been getting calls and not notified of them due to this fault in your system, and you couldn't so much as send a text message to warn me to check via dialling the voicemail number so I don't miss vital information?"
"Do you realise I've been attempting to run a small business with this phone? Why didn't you notify me when -or before- you knew there was going to be a problem?" I asked.
"Calm down" she said, "you're not alone, there are presently more than 420,000 customers with the same issue".
"Oh, that makes it all okay then!! That makes me feel so much more kindly towards your company" I said, in radically different words. "You've just kept half a million people from getting any messages without telling them, for half a month!", I said.
"Do you have ANY IDEA how impossibly cretinous this situation is? I have known hardened criminals (well, I haven't, but the rhetoric was quite good) who would faint at the suggestion of something of this degree of obliviousness to your contractual terms and duty of care towards a client base."
It was eventually fixed - or so I found out in August, but I had to call them to find out, didn't I.

Too many iPhone users (just do Highlight all and see how many with iPhone - None with Android)
You cannot have a fashion item & a usable phone (not just player) @ the same time.
Try HTC & you will see the difference.
Good luck wherever you go & thanks for helping with improved performance in the last weeks.

21 Jan 2011 09:05:56 PM: Sorry there are almost as many Android and Blackberry complaints. It is just there are more iPhone's in the market so they stand out more.
Don't worry, all smart phones work perfectly on Telstra's NextG network, it is only vodafone's failing network that cannot cope with Smartphones.

21 Jan 2011 09:07:06 PM: Agree with the reply, also quite a few Nokia complaints as well. The only constant is that the Vodafone network can't handle smart phones.
21 Jan 2011 10:41:54 PM: If the problem is the iPhone, why aren't iPhone users on other networks experiencing the same issues? Why are they not launching a class action suit against their carriers, or constructing websites such as this one?
14071 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Hopeless customer service at 21 Jan 2011 09:03:02 PM
I am on a pre-paid plan and suspect I'm being charged for calls which should be free using V2V free credits. Received text message advising low credit. This surprised me because I had made very few calls. Tried to log into My Vodafone on-line account to check call history/account details etc but received error message re incorrect username/password.
First call to Vodafone Customer Service (VCS) - Was told my number wasn't on their system and I would need to re-register but can't re-register because my number doesn't exist!! Couldn't contact Vodafone by their email link as they were having 'technical problems'.
Second call to VCS - Told I'd have a temporary password texted to me - didn't happen.
Third call to VCS - Operator logged job with their technical people and advised I would hear back in 72 hours. That was over nine days ago and I'm still waiting.
Fourth call to VCS - Waited on hold for 90 mins before call answered. Operator then put me on hold while he contacted his technical people but after another 80 mins the connection dropped out.
So after four phone calls (that's the ones that actually connected to a real person) countless non-connects and many hours on hold I still cannot access my account on line, can't cancel my automatic recharge authority or even raise the issue of the phone charges.
I have been a Vodafone customer for around three years using the same phone number and the same pre-paid plan but now I don't exist - funny thing is they still charge me for the calls I make!!
Vodafone is a disgrace and their customer service is hopeless.
I'm lodging a complaint with the Telecommunications Ombudsman.

It would be really nice to.. um.. maybe... MAKE A PHONE CALL... without having 'call fail' happen up to 15 times!!! Or to be able to use the phone without having to stand outside in the street, despite living in the middle of the capital city! And it's great when you get a SMS from someone that they sent 3 days ago!! And despite the polite sms's from Vodafone curstomer service saying 'were looking into the problem'... they don't bother to get back to you!!! Grrrr!!! Contract up in 8 weeks... SHOVE IT!!!!

I started to notice no data connection when there were attenna bars on my phone. some calls cut out on the callers end and they can't here me? didn't think too much about it. but it's been getting worse over the last six months.. I was attempting to make a fault call to report it and as soon as a consultant outside Australia answered my call... Broadband disconnecting at least 20-30 times per day. sometimes more than once every 30 seconds. Really quite annoying. GIZMO tech says its a fault at their end because my equipment is all working fine. emailed twice to complain with no reply. Ready to change now.
I also used to think the best thing about Vodafone was their aussie call centre staff, but now they're all indians and I can't understand anything they say.
Also, Lara never gets it right, and she never picks the answers I need. Lara is only there to try and waste enough of your time so that you will go away and not complain. Lara sucks
Can anyone recommend any better ISP?

14063 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Ultimate Fail at 21 Jan 2011 08:33:22 PM
Ever since I adopted the smartphone system in December 2009, I chose Vodafone due to their competitive plans and was unable to do any research (due to purchasing the phone as a replacement for a lost one).
I have never fully been satisfied with Vodafone's performance. Slow, continual dropouts of Phone and 3g signal and occasional delays in SMS. But in the last 3 months the dropouts have increased signifcantly and the network is slower than it has ever been.
I have troubleshooted till the cows come home no avail. I can understand the poor coverage, but poor provision of services is not good enough.

I am living in the Melbourne and I am constantly getting a message says there is no internet connection and my calls constantly drop out too. This is so frustrating and I couldn't believe that I have such a poor reception in the city.
I have tried to call Vodafone customer service which I believe in it was based in India and the wait time was ridiculous. I have called to ask a simple question and I was waited for 45 mins. Every phone calls took me 45 mins to wait as if I have no life and I would spend all my time to wait and listen to the repeated message " hang in there, and we would be there with you shortly".
I also tried to complain via internet but unfortunately the complaint eform was down too. Is anything at Vodafone is really working? I have posted a 2 page long complaint letter to them about 2 weeks ago and I heard nothing from them to date.
It's time for Vodafone to deliver a decent service and customer service.
Thanks for whoever set up this website and I hope it will bring a better outcome to all of the users in Australia

The media company that owns smh clearly has a problem with VHA and the bias reporting is nothing short of unethical and disgusting.
If you think for one second that Vodafone do not care, you are wrong. Of course they do and of course they want to get things right. Their execs are working around the clock to try and serve you better.I am the partner of one of the managers and I see it first hand.
Please be patient, please try and be more gentle.
They hear you and share your pain every day and want to get it right.
Have a good weekend.

21 Jan 2011 08:11:00 PM: Whilst I can only imagine what the Vodafone front line staff (both in store and on the phones) are going through the only people to blame for this is the heads of the network.
So when you say 'please stop doing this', we as customers say 'please stop screwing us over'. That is not an attack at you, but at the network itself. Vodafone (and the execs of vodafone) should never have let the network degrade to this capacity. They still continue to charge customers a monthly amount, yet they are not providing the service that we are paying for. Additionally they continue to sign more customers up to a network that just doesn't work for so many people.
Again, I do feel sorry for the situation this has probably left you and the other front line staff in, But you need to direct that back at the management team.

I have been a vodafone customer for 12 years. Over the past 2-3 years I have had drop outs on almost every second call. As I had never had problems before, I assumed it was my phone causing the problem but after purchasing a new phone the drop out persisted.
The internet access is absolutely ridiculous. It is the speed of my first dial up modem in 1998. I don't even bother with it anymore- far too frustrating!
After 12 years I think it is time for me to move on to another company. I still have 12 months on my contract which gives me plenty of time to look around for a better service.

just like everyone else, service issues and long waits in que when contacting vodaphone. Charges showing up from no where. Example: i will put my phone on the bench and not move it. One second it has ful bars, then back to nothing, then back to full bars. So, i go to make a call/message, thrn it drops out again. Was told i have perfect service at my house....i get none. What the?! I swapped from 3 mobile because i was getting the same thing. Was told i have 3g and could use interent under cap, but was charged $100 for nothing.
hmmm...frusteration.

I had recently my online access to my account blocked. When I called Vodafone's customer service, the poor machine, Lara, prompted. Asking me a few questions, Lara transferred my call to someone else. As usual the music got on, while keeping me waiting. I did wait over 4 hours and 20 minutes before loosing all sorts of respect and trust for Vodafone. Wondering what a poor, low ripper vodafone is!!

I have experienced dropped calls and messages that never went through both to me and by me. My bills have been huge, I have never just had to pay the cap amount. I am beginning to think that they have ripped me off big time. I rarely use the internet and have stopped making calls due to the high cost of my bills. I have complained many times to the outlet where I was sold the phone and others, only to be told "bad luck you are stuck with it until your contrat finishes". I have spent hours on the phone waiting for customer service (what a joke!!). Vodaphone are innept, incompetent and downright rude. They are morally bankrupt and should be held to account for the grief they cause people.

Living in Dulwich Hill, cannot get phone reception in my house. LIterally have to walk onto the street to get coverage and if I do recieve calls or texts messages, they are usually delayed. Went to complain at the Vodafone store in the new Westfield on Pitt Street Mall. They gave me a number to call to fix the problem as they could not help me. And I had NO COVERAGE THERE EITHER! I walked a bit further down and then got coverage.

Patchy reception even when line of sight with tower (N97 mini worse than N95 8G so partly handset issue). Complaint about reception on South side of town more or less brushed off by foreign call centre operator - need records & so on before investigation by tech. Seems to be a volume issue as well as signal - if the tower is busy there is no reception. I am buying a passive induction cradle & 12dB antenna kit to try improving reception at home & parents place

well i have a great day sitting on the phone, listening to music supplied by Vodafone customer service, oops did i say service, my issue is the coverage first off, it seams since they bought 3, there is no coverage, drop out after drop out, second, service from vodafail staff, oops i think i said service again, sorry...went into my local store not long ago, to get some advice on a matter, after standing at the counter for about 5 min, while the 5 staff sat on the lounge playing with there phones and computers, well it was enough time to fill out a survey form in the shop.....of cause, poor poor etc was my answer's, i went up to them and ask for some help, and got the death stare from all but 1, after all that i got, i dont know as a answer, now i see that they have spent millions on doing up there stores, what a wast of money, still the same staff.....why dont they sped the money on there coverage.
So i went in and signed up with Telstra, bit dearer but great customer service, and now i will have coverage, well when my number gets released, another issue, after waiting 7 hrs for that to happen, i rang them, hope your sitting down, i got thru and it only took 20 min, i get told that they had my DOB wrong, which i have corrected with them several times over the last 11 yrs, now i have to wait, another day.........gee i feel a bit better now, thank you for this site, i wonder if we can one for the banks

I bought my wife her first "expensive" post paid phone and initially was told that the town of lithgow had some problems for reception but we would not experience it unless we left town. We do not live on the edge of town. As a matter of fact we live in thew BRIGHT GREEN reception area of vodafone's coverage map however, over the town of lithgow, there should be a great big red cross that shows the coverage as it is now. We thought we were alone until we found out about the complaints.
The coverage in lithgow is so bad. My wife can only get reception in one corner of our backyard. We recently moved. 90% of places we looked at, we could not move to because the coverage was worse. Vodafone-Fail

I have been with Vodafone for less than 3 months and firstly I was told I would have my contract with my then service provider paid out, that hasnt happend and Im in debt that I cannot afford to get out of.
Secondly I randomly have 'No Service' in areas such as the cbd of major towns and cities where you would expect full covereage.
My phone calls drop out and my messages dont go through to their intended recipient until, in some cases, 1-2 days later.
I was asked to pay a large amount of money for a phone I was supposed to get for free.
I want out of my contract but Iv been told a Vodafone employee that Vodafone wont allow it-I ask, what ever happend to my rights ?? Im not happy with them so I want out-End of Story...
Its just pathetic I sighned up to try and save money with a certain plan and its been nothing but a headache...

After reading a lot of comments and hearing a lot I have restrained up until now not to post anything here, but the time has come as now, am extremely frustrated and disgusted with the poor service and customer service for that matter given to us. Like a lot of people we have had the constant call drop outs, not able to call anyone even with full coverage shown on our phone's, constant call failed and the list can keep going as am sure you are all too aware. After several atempts with Vodafone and being on hold for up to 4 hours at one time we too have received the base answer of no its not us its your phone or it's your sim card, only after long persistance did they then say to us that "yes we are in a process of upgrading our system and yes we do seem to have a few teething problems". It was only after I contaced the Onbudsmen did they start to listen. Even after speaking with the resolution team we still seem to have issues with communication in what they offered us to do with our account. Promises, promises, it is getting beyond a joke. Now we have been offered to get out of our contract on the basis of us sending our phones back of which we have has just shy of 12 months. We currently use these for business although at this point we have had our own disgruntled customers as they have not been able to get hold of us with the current situation. Not too sure if I am being harsh or unfair but don't you think they would release you from your contract and let you keep the phone that you have been paying off for this period of time due to the anguish they have caused. If that they case and they want us to return the phones do you think they should give us a cheque for the difference of 1/2 the price of the phone. If it was Vodafone chasing one of their suppliers I am sure they would ask the same and persue until they got what they wanted.

I have been with Vodaphone for about 4 months. I grilled the so called manager about their service and was assured that i would get good service in Craigieburn. I have kept the emails which i now laugh at. It is amazing how a company can charge you for services that are not up to specification as advertised. I have tried to get in touch with them by phone and give up in disgust, i hate that lara, and once you get past her, you are holdng on forever. I only use their mobile internet service, and it is frustrating how the service drops from 3g to nearly no service. Very hit and miss if you try to use skype, and frustrating when pages are too slow to load. Bring back dial up internet, a better alternative to Vodaphones 3G
14007 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Extremely at 21 Jan 2011 05:45:50 PM
Was with '3' Mobile.
Ordered a Iphone4 with vodaphone once my plan ended. Did this online, but was 'denied' due to lack of identity proof.
So order one on phone. Order confirmed, but told with take 4 weeks.
I go to store, who give me a phone straight away.
I then call vodaphone (several hours later) and cancel (with confirmation number e.t.c) the order for my Iphone 4.
4 Weeks later, I receive TWO iPhones in the mail (one from the internet request that was denied, and one from the phone request that was cancelled - I have proof of all this).
I immediately (that day) call vodaphone. Wait several hours. Get them to send me a return envelope for BOTH phones. I stress that I have two, and I need two return envelopes.
One envolope appears, 2-3 weeks later.
I call again, tell them to send another envelope, tell them that if they charge me for these phones im gonna be furious.
Anyway, they promise 2-3 days. Week passes - nothing.
4 weeks after recieving the phone, spending hours trying to sort it out, NOT being sent the correct return, not being able to return these to the store...
I get charged...around $2100, taken straight out my account.
I RAGE. Go to a store, rage at the staff, who tell me they can't get me a refund immediately. I rage some more, and they agree to call their state manager - who organises a refund in two days. They also organise a courier to return phones, and confirm that phones have been returned.
I'm disgruntled but let it slide.
Two weeks after - ANOTHER F(*&ING $2100 out my account. This time I go into a blinding rage and storm into vodaphone, I tell them I want my money NOW or I'm going to the ACC and whoever else will listen to this.
I'm a student, I can't afford $2100, let alone $21 to be unexpectedly taken out my phone account.
Anyway, I get overcharge fees from my bank, I can't pay rent, can't eat, have no $$$ for several days. Money gets refunded. I'm assured that I will get some sort of compensation.
I get ONE months free bill. One months, after spending at a minimum, 10-15 hours trying to sort this out.
Anyway,
Anyone think I should follow up? Complain more? Will this get anything done?
feel free to e-mail suggestions on what to do to - (PERSONAL DETAILS REMOVED)

Although I believe all the telco giants in Australia are as bad as one another - the waits, the poor response to complaints, the silly troubleshooting when the problem is obvious - their poor poor service courage.
They should be fined by the toothless ACCC so that other telco's and businesses realise that you cannot enter the market and claim to be a reputable company - and shaft customers like we are being shafted.
I especially feel sorry for those thousands who do not make the effort to wait 45 mins to speak to someone and voice their discontent.

I have been a vodafone customer since last four months. It was okay at first place but has been weird since last few weeks. I have been dealing with dropped calls, no network coverage, more than a day delay of voicemail, delivery failure of text messages and mms within Australia and even overseas, very very slow 3G, takes forever to load even facebook. No wonder I am one of those furious vodafone customers. We neef to put a pressure on them for a month free of service, wont pay monthly cap. Hope this helps the vodafone authority to fix it with a promise of good service!

I rarely can use mobile internet at home, i have to move my handset (iPhone 3GS) around sometimes hold my arm in the air. But more importantly, there is a confirmed problem with the Vodafone network that does not allow it to connect to Optusnet mail servers. I cannot send mail at all from my phone, and rarely can I receive mail. Error message "Cannot get Mail The mail server mail.optusnet.com.au is not responding. verify that you have entered the correct account info in mail settings." You can see this problem recorded on whirlpool forums. It has been going for months. I want out of my contract, my iPhone is useless with vodafone. I have reported this issue and continually told they are working on it and I will be informed when fixed.

However lately, the 3G coverage becomes really weak again. I can hardly use Skype to take to my parents oversea, and the internet speed is extremely unstable and slow...
The sadest fact is that it takes forever to be able to talk to Vodafone customer care center, and there's no one from Vodafone having the guts to tell everyone what the hell is wrong with their network issues.
Even if we cant use the mobile net, don't we have at least to have the right to know what went wrong and when the network service shortage will be fixed?!
And I'm sticking on a 12 month contract, DAMN!!!

When l signed up l specifically asked about coverage where l work. I work with kids so its important l have coverage... well l get none. I have tried calling them up several times and lm always put on hold for over an hour and a half to just give up before l can get put through to cancellations. I have asked if someone can call me back but l am told that sorry, cancellations cannot make calls to customers. I am constantly trying again but think that l am purposely being put on a dead line

Awful reception for calls, way worse for Internet. Call to complain and get fobbed off, it must be the phone they say! Now they have a new tv ad with stereotypical white austrailians playing callcentre staff. I have never talked with anyone with an Aussie accent, only (as far as I can guess) Indian. They do not listen to my complaint and obviously have a certain monologue to follow which they do not diverge from. I want out but after paying twelve months of a 24 month contract they want their handset back for nothing. Seems very unfair to me.

after being released from my contract, and being told that i could keep my handset i inserted a pre paid sim only to find the handset is still locked.
I am now on hold with my third call to vodafone after two unsuccessful unlock attempts. how hard can it be? very frustrating, i just want to be able to call again!

Im actually from Qatar which also has vodafone, and 99% of calls drop out in the city center while virgin offers flawless service. I though Vodafone was only rotten where im from but am delighted to see that people are speaking up abut it. Good luck consumers, companies should not run a business if their service doesnt work and their customer services keep you waiting for hours. I made the mistake of getting a local vodafone sim in oz because, surprise, the qatari vodafone sim which was meant to work OS didn't. As soon as I got it, the first 3 sims the shop gave me were faulty - I had to literally go into the shop because customer services were not anwser, i got the callback service but when it called me back it hung up on me before I could say "you service sux"

I have a 3GS iphone. Mainly it runs on 3G but not infrequently the vodafone 3G network seems completely unresponsive despite telling me I have full signal strength. Sometimes I can't make or receive any calls and txt messages refuse to send and I don't even attempt to get data because it just doesn't work. When I turn off 3G it works fine. This problem seemed to happen all of a sudden in my area (Main Beach, Gold Coast) but all my friends on Vodafone had the same problem so I knew it wasn't me. I couldn't call vodafone to complain (because I couldn't make any calls) so I emailed them and despite me explaining all my friends in the same area on vodafone had the same problem they sent a generic email back with a 'noreply' address stating that the problem was with my handset not their network. I knew they were wrong but just for completeness I put my sim into a nokia 3G handset and that didn't work either. When I left Main Beach everything started working again. I later discovered that turning off 3G seemed to fix the problem and now, despite paying for 3G data as part of my contract I leave 3G turned off so I can actually have a phone that works. My flatmate has had to do the same thing with his vodafone phone.

The software on my mobile packed up 2 weeks after the warranty ran out. I returned it to the Toowong store, to be advised it would be sent to Milton here in Brisbane for repair. It went to Melbourne instead, and when it came back a master reset had been done, resulting in losing important phone contacts, and locking access to almost all of the songs I had downloaded previously from Vodafone Live. When I called the store, they claimed to have never heard of anything like it, and couldn't help. Useless.
22 Jan 2011 02:38:29 PM: I remember you, I told you in the beginning that your phone would probably get wiped and you should back everything up and even I showed you on the repair form that you READ and SIGNED! I also told you that your phone MIGHT go to milton but would probably go to melbourne. Milton is for customer's to go to for a quicker turn-around and some phones go to melbourne so milton can still have a quick turnaround but you didn't want to go the extra 2 suburbs over. And when you called us we told you that we didn't know how to fix the vodafone live song thing but you could call customer care or come back into the store and we would call them for you. I'm sorry we can't possibly know everything but we will help you to the department that knows.
Please don't name our store and call us useless when we have done everything right and honest and have tried to help you but of course you didn't mention any of that. It is unfair and untrue.

22 Jan 2011 11:33:58 PM: In my experience the in store staff genuinely try to be helpful. However the call centre staff and tech support etc are where the bad service begins. You can't blame in store staff for what happens, they just try their best to do what they can for you. It is vodafone corporation that is the problem not the individual workers at store level

I received an 'overdue' notice, on the Mrs postPay phone, for $16.38 (not much in the scheme of things) but assumed someone (Mrs, kids) downloaded something or otherwise exceeded the cap ($29) so I went to try to download the appropriate bill (2nd most recent) to check what the extra charge was for, but alas it wasn't available (response: 70112: This bill is no longer available), but funnily enough, previous bills *are* available. Hmmmmm, sounds suspicious. Oh well, caveat emptor.

We have extremely poor reception here at Joyner (and almost everyone around me). I emailed them & got several responses suggesting my phones were the problem. 5 different phones (three different manufacturers) cannot all have the same fault in the same area.
Vodafone coverage is the pits here.
Love to go elswhere but I undertsand Telstra has the only decent coverage here but I won't go them. I hate them with a passion

I can't use my phone inside my own home and I am continually dropping out when I do finally get a line. This has cost me job opportunities and caused issues when I have rung hospitals to check on my mother when she was in. This has gone on for too long and I am switch to another provider.
