Dear visitor,
Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant
contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced
by Vodafone customers.
Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders.
You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.
Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.
More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly.
Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints.
The site will remain online for as long as possible as a
reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.
It has been a privilege to run this initiative
and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In
particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their
continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.
You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.
Until next time,
Adam Brimo

I'm just over it and am going to cancel my contract. My 3gs calls drop out or I need to dial 4 times before it goes through . If I see 1 more call failed screen I'll smash the phone. Plus after comparign the 3g internet service its night and day. downloading a page or checking emails honeslty takes 3 times as long as my make on oputs .
for all vodphone's commitment to service I called and they dont give a crap . No word that it will even be better ever . not good enough

Vodafone customer for 3+ years here. I've been enduring constant dropouts, flakey reception and poor 3g data speeds for too long. I have an iPhone 3GS in 24 month contract with Vodafone (expiring December 2011, which can't come too soon.
I am in a rather unique situation because I also have a work phone which is an iPhone 3GS as well, same version of OS (4.02), but work phone is through Telstra. Telstra coverage is almost flawless (I travel interstate for work weekly) and always where I have limited to no coverage (3G or normal network) on my personal Vodafone iPhone 3GS I can compare to the Telstra coverage on the work iPhone 3GS. Telstra is consistently better every time I check, and I don't think I've had a single dropped call on the Telstra iPhone.
Vodafone on the other hand I'd say 40% of my calls are dropped (yes, even when I'm in CBD area in different states), or get to the point where its chopping in an out and the person on the other end of the call cannot here me.

13653 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Network coverage at 21 Jan 2011 09:46:25 AM
I signed up to Vodafone nearly 2 years ago and can hardly wait to change carriers; I have no phone coverage at all in my house (so that when people phone me I'm not aware of it until I receive a message some time later), which means when I want to make a call I have to go out into the street and even then the signal is weak. This is very annoying because I work from home and often miss work-related calls

13652 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Extreme at 21 Jan 2011 09:45:41 AM
Their decision to go offshore with their call centre was a mistake.
The amount of time it takes to:
1. Get through to a consultant
2. Break through the communication barrier with the consultant
3. Organize simple requests such as global roaming (this took 15 mins)
4. Constantly drop off the call then go through the process of the the call queue again.
Ridiculous!

I get mobile internet drop outs at least 20 times a day. I get NO coverage at least 2 times every day. I called vodafone and got disconnected - 3 times consecutively!!! I emailed them - four days ago - and got no response. What a joke.
13650 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Really bad at 21 Jan 2011 09:43:47 AM
I had all sorts of problems when I switched to vodafone from another provider (prepaid).I asked to have my number ported, instead they gave it to another customer! After 4 days of complaints and calls I finally got my number back. The city shop that signed me to vodafone prepaid were useless when it came to any hep over this matter. They simply said to contact my previous provider. The vodafone call center was quite poor at times regarding customer service. A few times I was cycled through the queue and hanged up on. Luckily I had a few helpful call center operators to assist me. My recent issue is recharging my prepaid which I was unable to do so using the 1511 number. My number was not recognised. Then I tried calling their 1300 support number but it was not available. So I called support using the 1555 number. I explained my situation to the call center person and they recharged my phone using my voucher's details. However, when I asked her to why the recharge option didnt work via the 1511 option, she ignored my question and after I repeated my question she said that my line was noisy and that she had to go. I will be switching to another provider after this prepaid expires.
13649 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is reception faulty at 21 Jan 2011 09:43:46 AM
I can barley get reception or 3G reception, most of the time i have nothing. The internet keeps dropping out. I got told by vodafone that they will provide better customer service and better reception than 3, but this is not the case its just as worse. I have been with vodafone since November 2010 and im one very unhappy customer

13648 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is very! at 21 Jan 2011 09:43:35 AM
I lost my phone in Bali in August. Contacting the number on the Vodafone website meant a 25 minute wait on Hold and then only to be asked why I had rung network connections. the Vodafone consultant tried to give me a 1800 number to call, I explained that that only worked ithin Australia and explained to her again that I was Overseas. this did not seem to register. eventually she was able to put a block on the phone and give me a number for the insurance company to get a replacement phone. this call cost me over $100 as it was made from the hotel phone. I had to get first my sisiter then my Assistant at work to deal with the insurance compant and vodaafone to try and organize a replacement phone. this took six weeks and had to be bought to France by a friend. after the in excess of 15 phone calls and considerable cost I found the phone did not work. I tried to call again but was put on hold and decided to wait till I returned home in late October. More phone calls revealed that they had not removed the original block when they set up the new phone despite the fact that they charged me my monthly service charge and Phone insurance excess and other charges. One telephone consultant even told me that the numbers to call on the website were wrong and needed to be updated (without a hint of irony or guilt). It took 3 months for Vodafone to get me phone working. its like they never have people who lose their phone overseas and have delt with this process in a very unprofessional manner. The problems did continue with the new phone unfortunately and eventually after many phone calls some of the charges had to be taken off the bill which made things slightly better but only fair given the very poor service. I am leaving them as soon as my contract is up.
13647 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is at 21 Jan 2011 09:43:24 AM
My phone always cuts out. I thought it might have been my phone however, after receiving the exact same phone from my work but with another carrier, it was clear that the issue is with the provider. Picture messages are always delayed. Sending messages to more that 4 people at once always comes back as an error, although everyone has received the message.
I also called once to investigate my gig usage as I know 100% that I did not use as much as claimed and I was made to feel like i was an idiot. So the following month I manually recorded my usage and surprise surprise I am not the idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

13645 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Monumental FAIL at 21 Jan 2011 09:42:56 AM
Is locking customers out of their own web login some sort of ridiculous attempt at 'fixing' Voda's security issues? Or are they keeping people out of their account logins so that they can't see what sort of mess may have been made of their billing history? On 14-01-2011 discovered that my well memorized password had mysteriously changed, considerable time on hold later Voda managed to (temporarily) restore my password and I was able to login to myvodafone.com.au, but NOT see my account usage details. On 20-01-2001 discovered that my password had stopped working again. Still unable to log in, and see calling them again to resolve prob as a waste of my time.
Suffered long term poor network reception in inner Sydney suburbs and I'm hardly ever more than 6km from Sydney CBD and wonder how many people think I intentionally gave them a wrong number when they've tried to call only to receive a 'not in service' message? :(
So glad I'm only a pre-pay customer (or I'd be seriously worried about what is happening to my account!) it's going to be easy to jump this sinking ship as soon as my credit expires. My commiseration to those who have suffered more than me through Voda's lack of performance, especially those on contracts - good luck in seeking fair compensation!

13644 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is failure to honor warranty at 21 Jan 2011 09:41:38 AM
i bought an i-phone from a vodafone store and on its last 3 months of its warranty the phone failed and was sent to vodafone for repair (together with my friend's i-phone, so there's 2) but it took over a month for them to get back to us saying the units were water-damaged when in fact they cant show us any proof it was water-damaged (and i can tell honestly that the iphone hasnt been wet at all)and they were charging us over $300 each to repair it. So I just decide to get my i-phone back from them and it took another 4 weeks before we received it. Eventually the warranty expired while the unit in their hands, I took the i-phone to a private technician and he repaired it for $80 and no water-damaged like vodafone claims. How's that for warranty????

Calls get dropped out a lot, reception is bad in certain areas. 3G doesn't always work and making international calls is a pain.
13642 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Poor reception in metro at 21 Jan 2011 09:39:52 AM
I've have 5 services currently on Vodafone over the last two years, reception has been poor in the Melbourne metro area. Even in my home, again in metro, I cannot use mine or any other Voda phone. There is little or no signal and forget trying to use it in my study. There is a spot under my front veranda where I can conduct an almost successful conversation - but try and move from that spot and it's all over. I've complained to Voda a number of times over the couple of years and best they could suggest is to switch off 3G, put the network selection on manual and hope for the best. A month to go on these contracts and they wont see me for dust.
13641 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Draining my LIFE!! at 21 Jan 2011 09:39:42 AM
I am going on my 5th year being a loyal vodafone customer but am really starting to loose my patience with coverage issues getting worse and everytime I call with a problem my call is dropped or it simply hangs up on me.
I have spent my entire lunch breaks on hold and when it gets to about 55mins in either the call drops or they are hanging up as they know its a complaint.
If you tell the automative system u are after a new contract it will put you through to someone, sometimes instantly but as soon as you tell them you are having issues they drop you back into the que and so the waiting process begins again, which usually ends with the call being dropped.
At first I thought it was the iPhone 4 giving me trouble but friends of mine are not experiencing half the problems I have as they are with different carriers. I would really like to get out of my 2year contract but am willing to stay with vodafone on a month to month basis in hopes they will resolve these issues. It would be greatly appreciated if someone has advice on the best way to have my contract dissolved???

13640 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Major FAIL at 21 Jan 2011 09:39:23 AM
My partner and I changed to Vodafone less than two weeks ago. As soon as we joined, we have immense difficulties accessing the internet, even in CBD Melbourne. To top it off, my partners iphone, which was less than 1 week old shut down. We went to two seperate Vodafone stores, had to wait half an hour both times to be served by customer service, who tried unsuccessfully to solve the problem. We went home and tried to reboot the phone, still not working. We told one representative three times that we had tried all these things and then were told that they couldn't help us, wasn't their problem and it would easily be fixed. I mentioned to them that it was a faculty product and I was told that the phone was given to us in working order, implying that we had broken the phone. To top it off we were then told that we had to contact Apple ourselves to sort out the problem, all this within two weeks of joining Vodafone. We went to Apple, service was FANTASTIC and within 10mins, were told that the phone had major hardware malfunction and had a new phone!!! Vodafone, you should take a leaf out of their book. Vodafone, shame shame shame.

13638 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is really SH!TTY with overseas texting at 21 Jan 2011 09:37:38 AM
Is it true that you cannot just freely send text messages to Canada? This is what I have been told by a service consultant at Vodafone. She said that they only have texting agreements in place with two Telcos in Canada. And they aren't necessarily the biggest two.
So consequently I cannot send text messages to my daughter. When I explained my predicament the consultant suggested that perhaps my daughter could change providers in Canada. Never mind her contract though. I am a new customer with Vodafone, and never in a million years would it have crossed my mind to enquire about the ability to send SMS messages.
If someone knows otherwise - please respond.
Not cool Vodafone!

13634 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Very Poor and doesn't really deliver at 21 Jan 2011 09:35:40 AM
My problems are:
1) delayed messages and voicemail even to other vodafone phones sometimes days late. As well as receiving messages all at once instead of throughout the day when they were sent.
2) poor service and call drop outs especially within my house. I've tested this besides other phones with other providers who have full coverage and watched my service decline to zero. My previous telco had no problems with call drops outs or service within my house.
3)fluctuating 3G coverage especially within the city.
4)unhelpful staff when contacted either through the call centre or within a shop.
5) Question really - has anyone questioned the amount of information collected when applying for a contract?? I didn't have to supply as much information for a mortgage.
Thanks for organising the website! I now know I too am not alone and will consider other telcos as this seems ....are there equivalent websites for them???

24 Jan 2011 07:01:11 PM: Yeah the eternal question. I think if home loans were invented 15 years ago they would be very different also the telcos are protecting their own interests cos property is always where you left it and increases in value, mobile phones not so much.

Alright, so before going on a vacation out of the country I call the customer care and ask them about the roaming charges. The customer care dude tells me everything but doesn't tell anything about the data charges on roaming. Guess what, I'm charged $83 for 8 megabytes of net surfing. When I call back and ask them what is this shit! More than $10 per MB of data?!!They said it's standard across all service providers, but since you were not informed about it by the call center guy, we are gonna waive off $20. So, you still need to pay $6.3 per MB of data. Is this Sane or what? And next thing I know is, they don't waive off a dime irrespective of offering that $20 waiver. So, they are asking me to pay all of 83 bucks.
13630 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Not at 21 Jan 2011 09:33:45 AM
Venting your tough talkin spleen at the Customer service agent is pathetic in the extreme. They didn't build the network, they don't maintain the network, nor can they do anything to make the network better.
If you really want to make a difference, then you should all call the CEO's phone lines or head office switchboard instead.

21 Jan 2011 12:57:44 PM: I don't think any of these people are expecting the customer service agents to change the world, in fact, expecting anything of them is generous to say the least. Could it be that customers are merely yearning customer service representatives to just do what they're getting paid for?

I went to use my phone and it was disconnected, I had rang and after taking over and hour to get it soughted, as I could not understand the person I was talking to. I had told them that I had paid by direct debit to which they organised, and was ringing to let them know that the money had come out and I could prove it by bank statements. I faxed the bank statements through as they advised me to do, and that they would contact me. 2 hours later, my phone was still disconnected so I rang them back, and they stated that they had not received my fax, however records indicate that it had gone through fine from my end. Cut a long story short I had to ring them three times. So it ended up been approx 6 hours without a phone. I then rang back and threatened to take it to Consumer Affairs. My phone was back on within 10 mins after that. Absolutely Useless Vodafone. Not any credit back, and letter of apology, after they then realised they were wrong! You should not be allowed to provide this service, I can now only speak highly of Telstra and Optus! Goodbye Vodafone, its a pleasure to be leaving you!

13623 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Rubbish Network at 21 Jan 2011 09:29:46 AM
I had wireless internet for 2 years with Vodafone and it was an absolute disgrace. Constant internet dropouts and failure to log on to the network. The wireless dongle was a useless piece of garbage. We have 5 computers in the house ranging from laptops, Mac's, and PC's, and no matter what hardware was used, the same issues were always there: dropouts, failure to log on to the network. I will never go with Vodafone for anything ever again, and im only 30 years old, so that means they won't get a cent from me ever again, neither will they ever see business from my wife, or any of my future children. Keep doing this to people Vodafone, and your days will be numbered. People get locked into contracts for 2 years at a time, but like me they will leave once the contract is over and will never come back and will slander your name at every opportunity. My complaints were never taken seriously as I was always instructed by "technical support" to do the same thing that the previous drongo told me to do. Eventually I gave up and got another internet contract that has none of these problems, paid my monthly bills with Vodafone until my contract ran out. Vodafone never again!

I always have issues with it disconnecting, or it not connecting at all. i have been to the stores and they said said it was just a bad simcard and so ive had that replaced. but it doesnt change. now i swapped by useage and the customer service guy said i could go up to $39 month for 8GB so i agreed and now it says only 6 on myvodafone. i have emailed to complain and days later no one has bothered to return an email or call. not happy.

I think it's just vodafone australia that absolutely sux! NZ Voda was fantastic! The only reason I'm even still with them, is that I've yet to find another provider for my parents who offer an actual pre-pay service, rather than a direct debit one...as soon as I find that, and my 12 month contract is up, I'm gone. I have random reception issues that they can't explain, and they can't even follow simple delivery instructions. I also had to argue with a customer service rep to convince them my address existed! official complaints laid and nothing done about it...apart from an "apology" GRRRRRRRR

I think they don't care about customers because they shamelessly say cancel the service.
Final thing,thanks to vodafail.com

21 Jan 2011 09:42:18 AM: its not just cell burn causing issues. voda have to manage backhaul capacity, backend system capacity and uptime etc etc.
21 Jan 2011 09:51:26 AM: Regardless of the pricing - if a company sells you a phone with attached data usage this should be usable. The many comments here are pointing out that even trying to make or receive voice calls is problematic.
If a company purports to be a telecommunications carrier there is a reasonalb eexpection that the basic services should work clearly that is not the case.
Vodafone are totally in control of signing up additional users. They could put a maratorium on signing on new users say for 3 months until they improve things - however they do not.
They are compounding an already bad situation. Your suggestion that it is user externalisation of the problemm is laughable. To use an analogy if you bought a new $15,000 car versus say a $100,000 BMW - is there an expectation that the cheaper car has substandard breaks or steering. I think not - it functions as a basic car.

25 Jan 2011 03:32:26 PM: to be fair a $100 000 BMW would most likely have a upgraded brakes system.. maybe even ceramic brakes which have a better reaction time, to use that as an example is a bit ignorant.

Frustrated by continued poor coverage, drop outs and slow SMS/email messaging I emailed Vodaphone with a very detailed list of my concerns and a request for advice on how best to deal with these concerns and what options were available - in return I received a standard form response full of jargon and not the least helpful. I replied with words to this effect 3 days ago and have heard nothing back. Here's the form response I was given - can you decipher it? Does it help ease your pain?
Vodafone's GSM (2G) network covers up to 94.52%* of the Australian population. Our GPRS (2.5G) network covers 92% of the places you live and work in Australia. 3G available to 94% of the Australian population. Capital cities and larger regional centres operate on UMTS 2100MHz and smaller regional centres on UMTS 900MHz. 3G services are available in Vodafone's 3G areas - compatible device required. Poor customer service - being on hold for more than half an hour before giving up.
Calling back the next day and waiting 40 MINUTES before getting to talk to someone about a handset issue and then being told "it is the battery", when I had already bought a new battery for it (as I assumed this was the problem).
Paying for a contract but having no phone for a month while the handset was sent away to be fixed under warranty and then being without it for an extra week when they can't even be bothered to let you know it is back from repairs.
Getting your supposedly "newly replaced" phone home and trying to charge it and realising that it is no different to the one you sent in for repairs over a month ago.
Realising that you'll be without your phone for another month or more with no guarantee it will work when you get it or a claimed new replacement back...
As soon as I am out of contract Vodafone will NEVER get my business again!

After being a vodafone customer for several years starting with a work mobile (that I did not pay the bills for) and then moving onto being a direct customer I have had my fair share of network problems. That is not what I want to post about.
When I decided to leave Vodafone, I contacted their call centre. After around an hour in various queues I finally got to speak to someone and requested that they terminate my service and contract. As I still had around two weeks before my contract was up I was told that I couldnt forward date the cancellation so would need to call back once the contract had finished. This was quite annoying as I really didnt want to have to go through the pain again.
Roll forward two weeks. I called again to request that I cancel the contract. This time I waited in excess of an hour to talk to someone and when I finally did they would not terminate the contract for me. I had to answer a whole bunch of questions about why i was leaving and then get put through to someone else who had some "great offers" to talk to me about - despite my protestations I went back on hold, this time for another 45 minutes (at least).
The next person eventually cancelled the contract.
Roll forward 1 month - I got a bill. Not for the phone service but for two video packages that I had on the phone. APparently termination of the phone contract so the phone no longer works does not automatically cancel these services.
As the bill is only $7 per month, I think I will just pay this for the rest of my life to avoid the need to ever have to deal with Vodafone again!

Here we hit the problem. They can't/won't email the password. The email they sent me with the login link takes me back to the page where I need my password. 2 hours on hold for this unsatisfactory outcome. Still unable to login and check my usage.

I tried to pay off my Vodafail bill of $9. It would not accept an online payment. I called Vodafail and was on hold for half hour, finally put through, then transferred to 5 different people. Each time they asked me to repeat my personal information and why I was calling. Each time they said they could not take payment and assured they would transfer me to someone who would.
After the fifth transfer I told the Vodafail staff I have spent the past half hour trying to give them money which nobody seemed to take. She assured me multiple times she would transfer me to the right person. Then...she HUNG UP ON ME. I called again and was on hold for about 40 minutes before I hung up.
Vodafail sucks.

I have been with vodafone for many years now! Originally pre-paid i was comfortable with my choice of carrier. I then chose to go over to a contract. I have had reception problems for the last year & 6 months, & i was told the exact same thing with every call. Its your phone.. I had by this time changed my phone three different times. I then rang up to cancel my contract & sat on the phone for 1 hour. After i was put through i could not understand the lady. & asked to be put through to the manager. After another further ten minutes on hold i was told that i could have 50% off my cancellation fee. Again i asked to be put through to the manager. Another further ten minute hold before i was put through to the manager. Vodafone's service is unbelievable. You should not have to be on hold for an hour before speaking to someone. I have since changed carriers & havent had a problem. Thanks vodafone for being a FAIL!

Hi I can't wait till both our contract's run out in 2 months, for the past nearly 2 years, it has been constant drop outs, and lack of coverage. When visiting Lancefield/Romsey there is no coverage. When I complained to some locals, they said "you aren't with Vodafone are you? It doesn't work here"
As I'm going to be visiting there regularly this year I can't wait until I can go with someone else who offers a decent service for the $$ we pay. Also had problems with late voicemails & texts, and when signing up got a 10% discount on the contract, with 2 months free, this has never happened, gave up being on hold and talking to several different people who all promised to fix our account, never have got the 2 free months, and no 10% discount. Absolutely hopeless. Think we might have to go back to Telstra, they are rip offs but at least you get the service you expect.

I just got the new iphone with vodafail 6 days ago. Was told when I got the phone that if the coverage was bad either in my place of work or my home that I would have cause to cancel my contract. Came to work and guess what.. no service! I work in East Melbourne. Have now spent a total of 3 hours and 14 minutes dealing with them on the phone and have been told that yes we do have problems with our coverage, but you need to wait 5 business days for us to 'investiage' your claim. I have spoken with 7 different people on the phone and have got nowhere. What was interesting was that they kept on trying to offer me better plans or free stuff. I am on a $49 plan, and they offered to upgrade me to the $70 plan for free, not bill me for 2 months, and also give me a credit. I asked how this would help me when I GET NO SERVICE!!! What a complete joke. I have signed up for the class action law suit against them and am going to take this as far as I can. I want out as soon as possible, and I will never ever recommend them to anyone.

Some months later I wanted to buy a new battery for a popular Blackberry handset and the Vodafone store told me that none of the Vodafone stores in the Melbourne CBD had the battery in stock. Talk about useless.

Here is a list of the issues I have had in the past 3 week I have been a customer.
1 - Multiple dropped calls when calling another Voda customer less the 1 km away with the CBD.
2 - Failure to set up a new pre paid sim x2. Firstly after completing 90% of the process I got transferred and needed to go through the entire process again with an actual person. Secondly after completing the entire set up process and waiting for my number to come through for 6 hours, I called and was told nothing had been recorded and needed to do it all again with the customer service rep.
3 - After setting up my vodafone online, i then needed to reset the password, entered my number and was then told i had failed to answer my security question 3 times and was locked out for 24 hours.
4 - Tried to register my Credit card online, never used it before ever, but was told i had tried to register it too many times and could not complete.
5 - after being told by a CSR that the amount i topped up would determine which prepaid plan i could go on, i had to call customer services to change plans.
This is all within 3 weeks, after 3 years living in the UK i cannot believe how backward and prehistoric the vodafone network is in Australia. It is extremely expensive and incredibly hard to do anything involving changes to your account.
Oh and i forgot, after picking up a my new sims from a vodafone shop telling them i needed micro sims for a iphone 4, he gave me normal sims. I returned to the shop and then cut them down, but i still needed to trim the smaller sim to phone the phone.
Joke. Is Telstra any good?

When I signed up with vodaphone around september 2010, I got this fancy samsung galaxy S, The phone itself is sweet. What shits me is that I was told my deal would allow me 2GB of data every month. Turns out this isn't the case as I've received a bill/s for almost three times my monthly cap amount because of apparent excess usage and I dont use it that often. No more than I did with my previous provider and I averaged around 100-150mb a month. This was a real piss off, not to mention the constant loss of network, go to catch up with mates in the city, and cant call them to find where they are. Why? BECAUSE VODAPHONE SUCK MONKEY BALLS!
13584 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Unimaginably incompetent at 21 Jan 2011 09:12:21 AM
I switched to vodafone from 3 because they were the only company to offer the handset I wanted. When I got my new phone they said it would take a few hours for my number to transfer from my old sim to the new sim, however within about half an hour I noticed the 3 mobile sim was no longer active. So naturally I was rather excited. I booted up my new phone with vodafone sim included and waited for my number to activate... and I waited. After a couple of hours I thought it was getting a tad ridiculous but I couldn't go back to the store because they had closed for the day so I called the good old help line. After holding for what seemed like an eternity (close to 45 minutes) someone finally told me that it was likely a manufacturing fault and told me to take my phone in to the vodafone store the next day to verify. I did this and someone with the same handset as me traded sim cards and you guessed it, the phone was working fine but my sim wasn't. So what they did was give me a new sim and transferred my number accross, saying it would be 2-3 hours before it transferred again. I waited about 6 hours before I contacted the vodafone "customer service" again and explained my story and he said he'd have to consult some other people and get back to me. They got back to me the next day and asked me if I'd tested the phone etc (as I had already explained to them I had done) and when I reiterated my frustration he said he'd have to consult some other technical staff who could not be contacted til the next day, but he assured me I would be contacted.
To this guy's credit he did get back to me and he explained that there was a problem with my account... it had not been activated by vodafone staff. He assured me that it would be up and running by that evening and took it upon himself to get this done. It was not, so I called them back and was just given generic instructions to reset my handset and try again, etc. Still no luck. The next day when I woke up I finally had service, an entire 4 days with no service and this came for me at a time when I had recently moved to a new city without a job. I could not organise my job interviews or anything and I explained this to the vodafone staff and eventually I was given the royal bounty of the first months fee waived from my contract. Hardly a just reward. Anyway, the story doesn't entirely end there, but I won't go into as much detail.
Although I could now make and receive calls I did not have my full service activated. I was still unable to send or receive mms and had no internet connection. I called "customer service" again and held for close to 40 minutes before being walked through setting my phone up and then being told my service would be activated a short while after hanging up. Anyway, long story was it hadn't. So I called again and whoever I had spoken to hadn't activated whatever they needed to on their end, but this issue was fixed this time.
In addition to all this about 50% of the time I make calls from home I get a bad line where either I can not hear what is being said or the person I'm talking to can't hear what I'm saying. Sometime when I send sms messages it fails many times before it finally sends and on odd occasions it sends multiple messages, I've had upwards of 10 duplicate messages sent.
The funny thing after all this I received my first bill and it was for the full amount. I had to contact them again and remind them they owed me a month but I didn't bother to call them this time, I just emailed them.
One thing is for certain, the next time I buy a phone I'll make sure it's from a different provider.

I have just cancelled my contract with vodafone after nearly 2 years, after having reception problems for nearly 1 month, customer service told me they would look into it and get back to me in a week, after 1.5 hours on the phone i took the next step and went through to cancellations and got out of my contract without any fees which was the only possitive thing about the whole situation

Calls drop out all the time, ongoing lack of signal, voicemail and text messages not being sent through. Zero customer service, zero reliability and it seems to be getting worse and worse as the weeks progress.

My reception in my apartment literally went to nothing for approx. 4 days in December. I'm assuming because they were doing their rolling repairs. I switch to 2G and it worked. But I pay for 3G not 2G.
My real anger comes from all the stories of people ringing up and getting bills credited after argueing with them for a long time. I'm not a confrontational person, I don't want to ring up and abuse staff and ask to speak to managers just to get a credit on my bill. They should just give everyone a credit on their bills until the problem is fixed.

I took out a contract for a mobile 3G broadband stick last year. It's only ever worked badly (despite living less than 3km from the nearest tower). Vodafail won't let me cancel the contract and instead I'm lumped paying $49.95 a month until the contract finishes. HATE!

Whenever I go inside a building, that's it. No reception. I usually have to be a few metres away from a building to get any reception at all. Not very convenient if you have to make an important call regarding something INSIDE THE BUILDING that you need to stay close to, hm? I can't even use my phone in my own house. Usually I have to wonder around to find those 'special' pockets of reception that are few and far between. If someone calls or texts, I won't know anything about it until I go outside. The only exception is when I'm in the city. How can the reception be so different 20 minutes drive away?

Very slow and sometimes unable to browse at all on an Iphone and an Ipad. I also recall losing the service completely in Northmead. On calling them, I got told to reboot devices, etc even though i repeated several times that both my mobile and my wireless broadband stick showed no service. The indian CS insisted that there were no network issues, and I insisted in turn to be put through to someone in Australia, whereupon I told them what the issue was. Coverage was restored several hours later... why not tell the truth , Vodafone?

Towards the end of each month I regularly try to check my usage via the Vodafone website to see where I stand with included calls to avoid incurring extra charges. On more than half the times I try to check, the website says it cannot retrieve details, please try again later. It's extremely frustrating. I can understand it happening occasionally but not more than 50% of the time! Fortunately my 24 month plan is up next month, so I can find a better provider.

I'm not in a mess anymore as i finally switched carriers.
I lived in St Kilda East at the time and could never get reception!!! it was so frustrating, the only place i could get coverage in my appartment was in one corner of the balcony (not fun in on winter nights). Whenever i complained to them they simply stated that 'that you are covered on the map so you DO have coverage' .... NO vodafone ... there was no coverage. And no it wasn't my hand set, i swapped it three times and friends with vodafone also had the same problems. Also because there was no coverage my messages weren't getting through till days later.
I learnt quickly why they have amazing deals. I'm now with another carrier, there customer service is annoying but unlike vodafones i hardly have to use it as i have perfect coverage!!

13571 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Billing Problem at 21 Jan 2011 09:07:58 AM
Signed up in November on a plan. Was not advised that the Infinity plans (which would have suited my requirements a lot better) were being released the following day! Exceeded the cap I signed up to but was not informed. Called Vodafone and upgraded to an Infinity plan (more expensive per month than original plan but suited me better). Sales rep agreed that the cost of the calls over and above my previous cap would be credited as I had agreed to sign up to a new more expensive plan. Bill arrived - credit not applied! Emailed Vodafone 3 times and got an autoresponse each time. Tried calling 3 times but was on hold for 15 mins or more each time. Vodafone then barred my calls. That day I eventually got through and spent 1 hour 10 mins on phone with agent who struggled to understand the issue. With respect to the agent, she was new to the job and clearly did not have the appropriate training. However this was extrememly frustrating as there was no supervisor available for me to talk to but she could not help me. Eventually persuaded her to unbarr the phone and give me a commitment to have a call back from somebody that could help within 24 hours. No callback! Received a text 5 days later saying that my "billing issue had been resolved". Also received an email to tell me my account was overdue - again with an amount that was overcharged! Phoned Vodafone again and got through to an agent after 20mins on hold. After 30 mins call he eventually agreed to credit the charges as was originally agreed 7 weeks earlier. What a struggle and ultimately I am listed as the customer who did not pay on time!

Signal mostly at one bar, but cannot receive make calls. 3G just doesn't exist as internet mostly doesn't work and when it does it goes after loading half a page. I have both my mobile (which I stupidly recontracted myself for another 2 years in Nov) and mobile broadband with Vodafone. My mobile - drops in and out all day every day, I work in Sydney CBD so you'd think there would be AT LEAST 3 bars of coverage, nope. I travel on the train from West Sydney through Parramatta every day and there is barely any coverage any time along my daily commute. Mobile broadband - The last 4 months I have had the mobile broadband nightmare of nightmares, barely 2 bars of reception, I connect only to be disconnected within a minute or so sometimes within a matter of seconds. Each session I spend on the net is filled with me reconnecting at least 50 times in every half hour. Seriously.
After numerous times waiting on hold for up to 45 mins at a time I got through to the "technical" department (after actually getting through to someone twice previously that morning but due to no call drops outs had to call back again and again). Their solution to my coverage problem was to get into my car, put my laptop on my lap and drive around till I found coverage in a nearby street and then call them back!!! So they expect me to drive around continually looking at the coverage bars on my laptop screen to see when it picks up then pull over, call them back abnd sit on hold for another 45 odd minutes.... wow how has this guy not been made the president with his ingenious solutions! I let him know what I thought about that idea and asked to be put through to someone to disconnect my broadband as as far as Im concerned I am not getting what I am paying for, excellent! No, not really as I was on hold to the disconnection dept for another 30mins and hung up. Fumming, I attempted this fun excercise in the morning. This time asking right off the bat to be disconnected and again told I had to be put through to the disconnect dept "NO WAY!" told the cust service girl to get them to call me, Im not playing this game every day. Was told they would call me within 48 hrs. 5 days later, I get a call, saying that i am in contract for another 3 months and I would be charged a cancellation fee and that I had the option to fix my coverage problem but had "declined" the tech persons offer to resolve it. How is it acceptable to send a person driving around with a laptop in hand surely at the risk of having an accident or getting a fine for using a laptop while driving! There solution was a joke! After an hour of agruing with this guy and getting no where, I hung up. I wish to god that I had never reconnected my mobile phone with them or got mobile broadband, compensate your customer vodafone, we are paying for a service we are nto receiving, they are not holding up their end of the contract! oh btw, even if u sign with them and have coverage issues, bad luck. Coverage is not guaranteed, even in the middle of Sydney CBD! What a joke.
I now yell out "Vodafone Sucks" each time I walk past any Vodafone outlet, hoping the new customers will listen to my warning and stear clear! God help us all.

I rang Vodafone and spoke to them about it and then they said- the address that I had my phone registered at- this area will be checked, and if it comes back that there are network issues- i will be able to get out of my contract free of charges. If not, it will cost me about $450! They can't just investigate the area the phone was registered at- as THIS IS A MOBILE-- SO I AM MOBILE- and so the network issues are happening everywhere i go!

13565 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Useless Reception at 21 Jan 2011 09:05:54 AM
I can not understand how you can live within 6km of the centre of the second largest city in this country and have such poor reception that half your calls go straight to voicemail and you have to stand outside in the rain to get good enough reception to make calls. If you offer a service you need to deliver it and if you have a certain number of users in an area you need to update your network so that it can support the users. Vodafone is globalisation at it's cheapest.

Like most at the moment, go from 5 bars to drop out in no time flat. Have been with Vodafone since inception in the belief that if all they do is cellular, it will be the best. Sadly after so many years, I am very wrong. Their care factor is zero. Substantial refunds is the only applicable penalty for this lot.

Since 3 linked to Vodafone roaming I can't even get reception in parts of Glebe let alone rural NSW where i often work eg the New England Highway, Hunter Valley. Live just 1 hour north of Brisbane. I and my 2 sons are all with vodafone did this to support their sponsorship of motor racing. Our reception is pathetic. If there is a tree or anything else in the area there is no reception.... Even in our house we have to go outside to either send or receive calls. When people visit who are with other Telecos they are able to receive calls etc. Have also been having problems with calls just dropping out, You then have to recall them which makes Vodafone more money. Not a bad ploy...........

I have been with VF for over 10 years with no problems until the recent ssytem upgrade.
Now, I get no service inside my house. I need to go outside to make and recieve calls. Quite painful giving the recent rains!
I also do not get any service in my office, which is in Wollongong CBD.
I get my text messages hours late, if at all...
When I have tried to contact VF, they put on hold for an hour, then I get a message stating there has been an error and the call is ended.
I have tried to email them, with no success.
I have attended the local store, to be told that the staff have my full sympathy, and that the staff member uses Telstra and is much happier with them...
what can one do?

I have been trying to upgrade my plan for over 2 months! I don't understand how such a simple process can be so flawed.
Firstly, I went to the 3 store times, only to be told different things by each representative. 1) We can't process upgrades here in the store and I got told to call the direct line 2) You need to go online. (But online tells you to call???) 3) yes we can do this in store but we don't know when we're getting iphone4's in.
So which one is it?? How are these staff getting trained if all can't provide a consistent answer? By the way, this was from 1 store (corner Bourke Street & Swanston Street Melbourne CBD)
Secondly, it took 7 business days to process a bpay payment and when I tried to upgrade over the phone they advised they couldn't process as I was in arrears. The first time I called, the operator said he'll take down notes about my issue and for me to call in 48 hours. Fine. Before I called the second time, i made sure i checked online to make sure the payment had cleared. It told me I was in arrears for 0.32 cents when the day before it said $68 (i paid that $68 a week ago) where did the 32 cents come from? Another system stuff up from vodafone i'm sure Second time I called, they said I had to wait 4 days!!
And the worst part, they could see no notes from the previous operator!!
Third time, i finally got through to the upgrade team, they could not put my address in "the system" because South Melbourne was coming up with a different postcode?? Does outsourcing call centre teams mean that all integrity and service is completely lost? Obviously vodafone doesn't know what customer service means and are happy to give these people in Bangalore or where ever, poor systems, poor training, poor everything! I then got put on hold and got hung up on.
I have called again for the 4th time only to get told that they can't put my exact address because they use a system that reads off google maps? What on earth do they do with new estates which aren't on google maps yet?
Surely I have gone above and beyond what a customer is expected to go through before I start complaining right?

My last to bills have been $84 and $93, as they are charging me for Vodafail to Vodafail calls, Vodafail to 3 calls, and txting, when they are all meant to be included. Customer service in India (after 4 calls) finally revealed that my old plan had been discontinued and I'd been swapped to another plan WITHOUT ANY CONSULTATION with me, the consumer. I await my next bill with interest .......
13548 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Pretty bad at 21 Jan 2011 09:00:04 AM
Over the last few months, there have been countless - AND I MEAN COUNTLESS - times when I have not received text messages from my Vodafone friends and they have not received mine. I have rebooted my phone so many times - on one occasion, one of my friends received my messages several hours later! It's appalling.

My office in is in the Melbourne CBD and getting a signal is almost impossible. When I do I get EDGE rather than 3G.
In November last year I had to take my daughter to the Monash Medical Centre in Clayton for urgent treatment but could not get a signal to call the rest of the family to let them know what was happening.
At Xmas time I was staying at my sisters house in Belair in Adelaide and could not get a signal. On the way over we stayed at a hotel in the main street of Horsham and could not get a signal. Forget about trying to get a signal on the Western Highway. And NO, it is not my iPhone's fault!
My contract ends in June. I will be finding another carrier.

They did not answer my calls for complaints, or even for normal inquiry, at any time. It's time for the government to get tough and regulate this corrupt teleco. industry.

I have had my contract cancelled with voda, now they are still sending me txt's saying i have been sent bills for access that i havnt used. When I try to download the bill from their website I cant because im not registed. I try to ring them to get it, but after going thru the menu's it says "Sorry an error has occured" and hangs up. No matter what menu i use, it still happens. i try to go into the voda store and they say they cant help me. This I understand, Most of the voda shops are privatly owned by people trying to make a living, its not their fault but Voda's. I email voda and dont get a clear answer only one saying "You had the chance to cancel your contract, but didnt" All I want is my last bill to be cancelled, because I didnt even have the phone on! Great work Voda!

Purchased a prepaid SIM yesterday afternoon.
Tried to activate it via their website three times using different browsers because every time I tried it crashed at the last step. I had the same problem with activating mobile broadband a few months back too.
I eventually relented and called 1555 to talk to the automated thingie and was told that I would be SMS'd my mobile number within 1/2 hour but it could take up to three hours. This morning the service was still not connected and the website still would not work and still no SMS with my new mobile number.
I tried finding an option on their phone service that suited my problem (You had to enter a mobile phone number for everything but I didn't have one yet!) and ended up having to choose something else so that I could be transferred. I could then be connected although the service was not working instantly as I was told. It took half an hour.
I'm glad it's a prepaid SIM so I can opt out anytime.
