Dear visitor,
Since its inception Vodafail.com has made a significant
contribution towards raising awareness of the problems and issues faced
by Vodafone customers.
Vodafone Australia customers have had the opportunity to voice their concerns, their fears and their troubles from every corner of Australia and beyond our borders.
You have gathered the courage to stand up for your rights as consumers and to make your voice heard.
Each and every person who shared their story should have a sense of pride in this achievement and the changes that have occurred since the start of Vodafail.com.
More recently, traffic to Vodafail.com has declined significantly.
Having achieved the goal of raising awareness and promoting concrete action in early 2011, we have now reached the point of closing Vodafail to new complaints.
The site will remain online for as long as possible as a
reminder and an example of what is possible when we share our experiences.
It has been a privilege to run this initiative
and I'm am forever grateful for the help and support I've received. In
particular I would like to thank Melissa, David and Travis for their
continued efforts over the past 15 months. I'm also thankful and humbled by the support of ACCAN, Choice magazine and a wide range of media outlets, blogs and websites.
You can still browse existing stories and find out how to file a complaint if you are experiencing problems.
Until next time,
Adam Brimo

I received a sharing dock in the mail last week so I can plug my USB modem into it to make it wi-fi. The first few days was good, but lately when I get home from work, or try to get on the net in the morning I can't connect because the USB won't connect to the net while in the docking station.
I just spent probably a good half an hour just turning off/on the docking station and re inserting the USB and waiting for it to reconnect to the net. Very frustrating and I seem to be having to do this on a daily basis.

Re my post 24 May 18113. Went to Vodafone <<STORE DETAIL REMOVED, TO PROTECT THE TRUSTWORTHY>> earlier this week to look at getting a cheap handset to put my Amaysim sim card into. Just happened to mention to the store person re the above post - they UNLOCKED my Blackberry Storm 1 on the spot. Store Manager said, "I wouldn't trust anything Vodafone say!"
28 May 2011 06:33:18 AM: Thanks for the update, thrilled you have had success. Well done!
I have purposely removed the store name as Vodafail needs more store managers like the above.

18164 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is International texting at 27 May 2011 08:22:19 PM
International texting to Canada and the US have been unavailable for most users for approximately 2 weeks. After calling Vodafone I found that:
(1) I am still getting charged for these failed messages
(2) they have no idea when the coverage will come back on. No idea at all.
Thanks for letting your customers know Vodafone.

18163 Someone from ACT thinks vodafone is Vodapennytel fail at 27 May 2011 06:58:04 PM
Please put Pennytel ('PT') on the no go alternatives.
I am posting here due to the lack of communication received from Pennytel (a carrier that now uses the Vodafone network) to let off some steam.
Story is this: Optus recently dumped Pennytel as their official carrier, Pennytel has now requested its users to switch to their new Vodafone plans. They promised delivery of the replacement sims on 2 May. They promised, "2 working days".
This concerns the late delivery of my replacement Pennytel simcard and Pennytel's poor communication and service. This has to be the worst combination. Penntel (incompetence) combined with Vodafone (uber incompetence).
I am very upset with PT's tardy service. My phone has been disconnected since 13th May. Probably due to the port to Vodaphone initiated by PT. I was advised on 2 May that replacement Pennysims would be shipped within 2 working days. It is now 27th May. That is 25 days. Still no sign of a pennysim in the mail. Methods to contact me on the phone were gone for days since 13th May. The only remedy was to purchase an emergency simcard.
This is a pain, as it isn't my usual number. This problem is exacerbated by having a very ill grandparent who has me on call.
One thing that upsets me further is me having contacted Pennytel almost a dozen times between 2-20 May. Every single e-mail I sent was received and I got the auto reply:
"24-48 hours and we'll contact you" along those lines.
This didn't happen. Only until 4 days ago have I received reponse.
Almost 21 days later from 2 May, I receive an e-mail: "Case priority: Low. Please send us your address to confirm shipping".
So I did. But why do I need to confirm my address? I've ordered products and sim cards in the past. They shipped to the shipping address as specified in my profile. Also, if they needed me to confirm my address, why didn't they send this e-mail ages ago?
In addition, they setup this system on their website to streamline the switching to Vodafone plans. You simply log into your account and click on the voda plan you wanted to go into. The claim, "We'll do the rest". So this e-mail 20 days later to ask me to confirm my address? Utter bull shit.
I have never been so upset with the customer service of a company before.
In addition, since the beginning of receiving the Optus cancellation announcement to the Vodafone switch (Was known since Mid-April)I have sent various e-mails with simple inquiries concerning the new plans and so forth. I just wanted clarification on what I was getting into. Is that too much for a customer to ask questions on things he isn't 100% on? Well, objectively I think that's quite fair. Well, Pennytel hasn't responded to any of those either.
Really, I just want my micro-sim delivered so I can get on with daily business. I have ill relatives that need to contact me in emergencies. I have customers that need to contact me. The fact that I have had to go out of my way to purchase an emergency sim is already too much.
Overall, the lack of communication, the loss of business and the overall frustration and suffering I have endured has led me to elevate this to the TIO and ACCC.
I hope that Pennytel can quickly resolve this so I can just get on with normal life.
Pain in the ass.

18162 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is 50% discount for 3 months fail at 27 May 2011 06:50:51 PM
I applied for a pocket wifi plan $39 in a store and they have a promo 50% for 3 months. So when I got my first bill, I was billed in full so I wonder why the promo did not happen, then I rang them and the Indian guy told me that wait for 4 months sir cause it will be deducted on your fourth month bill. ok I waited for 4 months, then 4th comes but still no discount were found in my bill so I rang them again. this time an Indian girl and now telling me that they don't have promo during that time WTF. I told her that I called on my 1st month but the Indian guy told me that it will be credited in my 4th month but its not happening. So I decided to cut-off my connection. Be careful on any promo from Vodafone cause its not true.

I have 2 accounts, a 29 per month mobile phone and a 15 per month mobile broadband. I decided to upgrade my mobile phone to a nexus s. This sounds relatively simple, call them, upgrade mobile. nooooo, they upgraded my mobile broadband (a usb stick) to a 29 per month mobile phone account. I now have 2x29 per month mobile phone accounts.

I really can't believe the last sentence of your story: "She put me through to the customer call centre in India, I was transferred to the technical department (start the story a third time) and they said that my area was below standard and offered me 50% discount on my bills for June, July and August because they were erecting a new network tower in my area in June." I was told EXACTLY the same thing when I went into a Vodafone store and was put on the phone to someone in India and then put through to the technical department. I was told my area was on the border of being rural (I live in Lesmurdie/Kalamunda...) and that the network towers in my area interfere with each other... Wow!

Earlier this month VODAFONE admitted to faults in SMS service, hence they are giving people free sms service on a nominated sunday.
What use is that to people who doesn't need to send sms on that day. They should be CREDITING CUSTOMERS ACCOUNTS for charges on SMS that failed on the day!!!
When my contract is OVER, its OVER VODAFONE ! ! ! TELSTRA or OPTUS are my likely future service provider.

18155 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is delayed voicemail at 27 May 2011 03:31:05 PM
What the bloody hell is the use of a VODAFONE Mobile if people can't call you when they need you.
My mobile doesn't ring, it defaults to voicemail. And my voicemail arrives 1 week late. Becuase it defaults to voicemail which arrives late and there is no list of missed call on my register.
To make matters worse, VODAFONE doesn't notify me that their service is not working or if they are compensating customers for the inconvinience. They just pretend everything is working fine.
I have since acquired a TELSTRA pre pay, once my contract with VODAFONE, its GOOD BYE FOREVER ! ! !

I just receied my voice mail today, for message left as far back as 5 days ago.
What makes it worse, I tried calling my mobile no and I can confirm what my callers complain about. My phone doesn't even ring, it automatically defaults to the voicemail, which sadly doesn't work.

1 Jun 2011 03:25:23 AM: The two could quite possibly be related. Surely if it's fraud, the offenders should be relatively easy to pin point by following the money trail. If your credit card has been debited by a frauster, whether at Vodafone or outside of the company, if the transaction is shown as "Vodafone Tullamarine" then funds will have been debited from your credit card, credited to "Vodafone Tullamarine", then if the funds have been transferred on to somewhere else, follow the money trail. Note also banks log IP's each time you initiate an internet banking session of any kind.
The whole Vodafone saga seems fishy to me, the company should have its telecommunications license suspended until they are capable of providing an acceptable level of service to its existing client base before being allowed to sign up more customers.

I hate LARA! I want to meet her so i can scratch her face off with a cheese grater! My vodafone issues have been going on for almost 3 years now. When i lived in bondi they said my poor reception was due to my location. When i moved to cronulla they said the same thing and that their "technical team" are looking into it. Im again on the phone to them. This time they are offering to send another "imaginary technical team" to find out why my area has no reception. I absolutely despise this company. The next operator i speak to that can not speak english is going to cop it!
18150 Someone from VIC thinks vodafone is Unsent SMSs at 27 May 2011 01:37:16 PM
I recently realised that none of my SMSs to the USA were being
transmitted. For about 5 days I was sending messages that weren't being sent.
First I called vodafone (which didn't help), and then went to the Vodafone shop twice. It was only after two visits and an hour wait that I was
informed that the system that sends SMSs from Australia to the USA is
not working properly. They also informed me that they had *no* idea
when this issue would be resolved.
Vodafone has failed to inform their staff of this issue as well as their customers!! Of course, this issue isn't listed on their website.
This SMS problem has being ongoing for at least 5 days.

So in all seriousness, I would really love to know why most staff at the Call Centre seem to be competely useless. They can't seem to deviate from their script, and have no sense of empathy or product knowledge:
My only conclusion is that it is one, or more of the following:
A) They lack intelligence
B) They struggle with our dialect
C) They are uneducated and aren't trained extensively even though they are supposed to be the experts

18145 Someone from SA thinks vodafone is Unusable at 26 May 2011 11:25:37 PM
I signed up in Melbourne and moved to Adelaide in the last few weeks. I am extremely disppointed with the data service in both locations and would like to get out of it. The service is practically unusable. Sometimes the Pocket WiFi just drops internet altogether and just goes to a 'local' network only, as if I had one. At other times perfectly sensible web pages give a Windows error screen as if the connection has dropped. Go back and try again and it goes onto the page. At other times the pages take forever to load and I just give up after a few minutes. This isn't how it should be. And after many years of sending and receiving emails from various phones, I can receive emails but have tried everything but cannot send from my Nokia E71. Just can't fathom it. Would love to go onto something better. The service is so bad I don't know how I managed to rack up an extra AU$65 in data charges in the first month in a 1GB package. I wish they had warned me. Luckily this month it is only AU$16 extra with 6 days to go. Not a word from them - a vary convoluted logging in process to find this out.

26 May 2011 09:27:19 PM: You'll have to ring up Vodafone to find out however if the coverage map on Vodafone's website says that you should have coverage then you might be able to get out early. Might as well give them a call and find out though. Best of luck!

18138 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Mobile internet capacity at 26 May 2011 02:59:53 PM
I have a Vodafone post paid internet service, <<PERSONAL DETAILS REMOVED>> which I usually use in my apartment located in Rockdale NSW 2216. My SIM is plugged into a Huawei K3765 device as the K4505 they sent me recently gave me more of the problems outlined below. I can connect on the internet at odd, off peak times such as 2:00-6:00 AM but on many days from about 6:30 AM, there appears to be poor connectivity. If I reboot my computer, the Vodafone Mobile Connect software shows that my device has reception on the 3G network and then the GPRS network and sometimes USPDA. When this occurs, it is very hard to connect to Vodafone and surf the internet. I have called Vodafone to ask them to upgrade capacity on their network because their staff say that I am in a strong coverage area. On my contract I have until March 2012 but Vodafone will not release me from the contract early. Their staff just keep saying it is my computer's settings or the devices settings, but I have recently reinstalled Windows and used a stock standard "optimised" install of their software. Very disatisfied. Shame on you Vodafone!

Firstly, I kept the grovelling letter from Vodafone Hutchison CEO Nigel Dews form March 3 were he begged for forgiveness for their crap service.
His address is: 40 Mount Street North Sydney, NSW 2060, tel: 133 121.
My advice to all is to bombard him and his office with letters - if you can spare the extra dollars send them by REGISTERED mail to him personally so he'll have to sign for them or at least nominate someone to go and sign for them.
He can't not sign and take delivery because he can't take the risk some may be legitimate business letters.
It's all about inconveniencing him and his rubbish company in the same manner he inconveniences and frustrates us.
Not only do I have a dreadful service in the Berkeley Vale/Fountaindale/Wyong area with constant drop out, late messages and voicemail delays - I sometimes have to drive down the street to make a call - but they have just tried to charge me over $200 for ROAMING during a period I was in Asia and had Data Roaming turned off! In the invoice it had me sending TXT messages every two seconds from 6am!
The useless man in India tried to tell I was supposed to call them to have ROAMING turned off. Like hell! There is even an advisory warning on iPhone 4 to turn off Data Roaming when travelling overseas to avoid high costs.
I travel OS every few months and am no dummy.
We turned of Data Roaming on both our phones the day we left (while sitting on the plane at Sydney Airport) and they can't explain how this has happened.
If I tried to falsely bill someone in my business I would be before the courts charged with FRAUD, but Vodafone are committing a fraud 24/7 by selling a service they can't meet and over-charging customers.
This company sells the sizzle, not the sausage. All we are doing is supporting their marketing via V8 Supercar teams and Formula 1. They are a bullshit company.
My next move: The TIO and hasta la vista Vodafone! Scumbags one and all!

it appears that voadafone bonus dollars redemption-vodafones loyalty scheme, has not been working for it appears -over two months,i have been trying for 2 weeks and after the usual customer service run around was told try again in 48 hours.Of course it does not work then either. This is important from a balance sheet persective as in effect redemption converts a contingent liabilty to an expense so it is something that is concerning ,and also annoying for a consumer.
22 Jun 2011 07:16:25 PM: I tried tonight to redeem my bonus bank dollars and the website wasn't working properly. I think you can increase that to 3 months now...

I am on a $79 with 2GB data plan. Spent 3 weeks overseas, occasionally using roaming to check email and use maps. I return to $2000 usage racked up. One call I was charged at $80.85 per minute. Then for the privilege I was barred from outgoing calls because I went over my cap. DISGRACE!!!! They wont drop the restriction until I pay up but i haven't even been billed yet!
I will be demanding a refund if they take that $2000 and a release from contract. ** UNACCEPTABLE **

We purchased a phone for our son for Christmas 2010. We were able to recharge once. After that every attempt failed. Both on the internet and via customer service. No-one can work out why. We are so sick of listening to the voice activated software, that eventually tells us the department we require is closed. Basically we want the phone unlocked so our son can use his phone via a decent provider. We purchased this phone for safety purposes, not very safe if he cannot use it. On another matter, my mobile was with three mobile (now vodaphone) and is now basically useless unless within 30 km of the GPO. I have tried calling them and every time they have hung up on me. I cannot say politely what I actually think of the Vodaphone service.
Back to our son, who is in Year 7, he just wants a phone that works so he can text his mum and dad and check his favourite sport results via the internet.
Please help us, my brain will explode if I have to listen to the voice activated software or inane attempts to resolve the problem.
Thanks

25 May 2011 10:31:52 PM: 2 things: make a complaint here: http://www.tio.com.au/ComplaintForm/ComplaintFormS1.asp
that takes 10 minutes and they will let you out without fees etc - just complain hard enough and explain yourself.
Secondly, I'd by a cheap mobile outright (you can get a cheap nokia for $80, then an Amaysim sim card. It's got cheap rates without any chance of billshock.
I don't have Amaysim, I have TPG $50 plan which gives you $1000 worth of calls/text, but you can go over the cap which means risk of billshock.
Goodluck!

I left Vodafone in February due to ongoing coverage issues and am still trying to get the remaining balance refunded to me. I am sick of calling their Mumbai call centre to sort this out. Considering legal action, so over Vodafone!

You have tried to resolve the issue and have appeared to be unsuccessful, the next step is the TIO, takes about 10 minutes max to complete their on line form.
The TIO details found on the How To Complain tab at the top of the page.

I have a vodafone post paid and wireless accounts. I am so disgruntled by their service and their network that I am planning to start a video and post it on u tube to account for:
1. The number of times I get "No Service" (18 times yesterday - in Sydney CBD!)
2. When calls "fail" or "drop off" (does anyone get a connection around QVB or George St)
3. When the internet connection fails. (It never seems to work and Vodafone consistently charge us for it)
I have been on the phone with the company a number of times since October, making a complaint, with no support. And when I go to their stores, the sales agents actually ask me to drop their plan and go with Telstra!
Its typical of a hutch culture - get a stake in a company and run it to the ground and sell it off. Voda shame!

After months of poor network coverage and signal loss whilst working in Perths CBD I have spent endless hours on hold with no results at all. I had been into stores and the sales staff said they are unable to help and they even reccommended trying a different phone carrier. I think it's time for legal action against such a uncompitant company.

Been trying to move from Woe-da-fone since 20/5 unsuccessfully, to Optus. They have been so obstructive, whether purposely or just inefficient is anybody's guess. Another call, they tell me 24 to 48 hours. Optus has been very helpful. My patience is wearing thin, but I have remained calm and polite - surprisingly! Fingers crossed.

Since the last 2 months I have been facing mobile broadband speed issues. Repeated calls for tech support hasn't changed anything. They said it's a network issue so what are they doing about it? NOTHING... The speed doesn't even exceed 10 kbps at times where the stupid modem shows it's got full network coverage and excellent connection. I am sick of this..Every month they don't hesitate to charge me money for this though...Great going vodafone.. I'm stuck with you for so many months more... :(:(:(:(

Vodafone has caused me nothing but problems, it constantly cuts out, rarely get coverage and is very slow. Recently they have charge me near to $2k for excess use of internet. Most of the usage was over the long weekend when I had no service at all! Showing blocks of 7-8 hours of usage consistently, even when im sleeping im apparently surfing and downloading. Not happy. Then they offered me 50% reduction on my $2k bill for a month!

I contacted a Vodafail Supervisor this afternoon to cancel my contract. I am 2 months out from the end of a 24 month plan. I took out a $69.00 p/m plan for 2 Blackberry Storm 1 9500 handsets. The Supervisor advised (after checking with his "technical department") that any Blackberry Storm purchased prior to 18 March 2010 are UNABLE to be UNLOCKED from Vodafail due to Blackberry factory default settings. OMG - nice paper weight. The Amaysim sim card and pre paid voucher I purchased are now useless unless I purchase a cheap handset. The Supervisor told me he was unable to assist with this issue. Told the Supervisor Vodafail need to accept liability as they were trying to talk me into upgrading to a iphone4 24 month plan at min $29 p/m +15 p/m for the handset (reduced from $18.00). How can they onsell a product to their customers then leave them in the lurch?????

I'll make it clear that I have now changed carriers, but will continue with this nightmare story. I used to have a broadband account with V'fone, but due to spending more time at dial-up speeds and complete drop-outs rather than being connected.I logged multiple job request to rectify the situation to no avail.I asked V'fone to terminate my contract because they were not delivering the product I had paid for and I stopped receiving bills. 8 months later I receive a request from a debt collection agency to recover $300 on behalf of V'fone, and since I was to depart for an O/S trip the following day and had plans to apply for a home loan in the near future I settled the account with the debt collection agency, I did not want to have any credit "black-flags" against my name so felt compelled to finalize it. On my return from O/S, I rang V'fone and tried to recover my funds from them.
I was bounced back and forth between departments for 3 hours to try and settle this affair, made all the more difficult because of the thick accents of the call center operators and more-so because nobody had any clue how to handle my case.
In the end, they brushed me off, saying that because I had paid the debt collection agency, the matter was out of their hands, and then refused to credit me the amount to another mobile account that I held with them.
Simply, they billed me for a service that I was no longer a part of, and then refused to give me my money back when challenged.
Recently, when I changed carriers, the credit black-flag made it very difficult to convince another telco-carrier to take me on as a customer.
Every time I see the V'fone logo, I see red in more than one way.
Screw you very much V'fone.

18104 has prompted my memory and hence to alert everyone to a kind of work around....
So, the situation....Looks like you have reception, but can't make a call. It just keeps saying call failed after about 30s-1min
Then, call 1555....wait for Lara to tell me that they have a fantastic call recording service, and it still works well.....
Hang up in her ear, bleating expletives.......
Then, make your call and it goes through.......!
So if I was an out of control conspiracy theorist, I would be assuming all sorts of machinations of electronic decisions being made about if a phone can get through or not and it being decided that... because I wanted to call customer dis-service that I should be let through, but if I wanted to say....call my mother in hospital, then I cannot get through.
Lara has a direct line to Jimmy Baker it would seem.
I hope that someone somewhere uses this workaround to their advantage, say....when you've just had a leg ripped off by a tiger in Wagga Wagga and need an Ambulance. Sure, tigers aren't native to Wagga Wagga, but there's more chance of one singing Puff the Magic dragon in the main street than making a call with my iPod3GS.

If, for reason of outstanding balance (as little as a week), Voda decide to disable my service, I notice the following;
- My phone actually continues to operate normally as if nothing happened /provided/ I do not switch off/on or otherwise reboot the phone. I have successfully sent/received calls and SMS during at least one period recently when I know that a linked service on another SIM was disabled.
If Vodafone in their infinite wisdom, a wisdom that knows no bounds, decide to re-enable my service (given that I AM a long-standing customer who has never failed to clear all debt within days of realising my dilemma), I then notice the following;
- Dependent on the state of the previous cosmic phenomena, my phone may -appear- normally registered to the network when in fact; it does not receive incoming calls, does not receive incoming SMS/MMS, does not allow sending of SMS and.. and.. wait for it, does not allow outgoing calls but provides NO indication whatsoever as to there being a local issue, with the remote number dialled just returning an engaged tone or similar.
Being ignorant of any problem, I have then gone for /weeks/ without important communication. Contacts are abhored at the fact that I have not replied to important SMS and that my number is unavailable for long periods of time.
Would Voda care ? I'm willing to guess.. not.

So how could this reception issue impact heavily in a life and death situation ?
How could a mobile phone be such a vital life dependent link ?
OK.... well...I am 44 yo man, currently looking after a friends 9yo daughter, while the mother is at the hospital helping her friend give birth to her first child.
I have just found that the home phone here is a rechargeable out of charge.
It looks old, but it isn't taking money from anyone while not actually working. And there is a couple of broken toys here that, although broken, are not taking a hundred bucks a month while defunct.
So here I am, unable to contact anyone. I should be able to trust that my money each month is going to help me in a tight spot. Or are we too reliant on these devices ?
I guess I just have to sit tight and hope that I do not need urgent medical help.
Thanks Vodafone....
PS. Well, at least the internet works and I can bitch about Vodafone....
By the way, the internet is NOT with sloDafone, ie. you are reading this...

sales guy from Vodafone called, offered complimentary upgrade to quad band usb modem. Said it will dramatically improve speed in central melbourne as they have new 850 network.
recived and tested new modem - same speed of around 1mbps. Asked the same sales guy to organise the return of the supplied modem.
This brain disabled person cancelled all mobile broadband I had including the old one that we had no intention to canccel.
When calling vodafone support guy tells me that I called and requested the cancellation which is of course not the case.

I have been experiencing coverage issues for about 6 months now, not happy. I thought I would wait it out; thinking Vodaphone would surely fix the issue promptly, but now I've had enough. Not only do I have issues with network coverage - I am now not receiving my voicemails until 5-10 days after they've been left. My data speed is also crap... And to top it all off my handset's battery now seem's to have died - getting less than 5 hours life on full charge.
Have been trying to get in touch with vodaphone to get information on where I stand contract wise. Can someone please let me know what the go has been in relation to getting out of contracts early given this extreme breakdown in their service offering?
Any recommendations for Australian plans and networks to change to? I want to get an iPhone 4 contract...
Help would be great.
Cheers,
N

I bought the Vodafone pocket wifi after the guy at the Vodafone store told me it would work better than the mobile broadband usb stick which I had and gave me such poor coverage.
Turns out he lied...the pocket wifi is even worse than the usb stick and I get little or no coverage at all now.
I went back to the store and told him and he said it was too bad as I had signed up to a plan.
Seems like they'll tell you anything to get a sale then they don't want to know you after that.

After 15 years with vodafone, they have failed me. It's like a sour marriage now.
Finally got out of my contract, without any EXIT FEES! (had 14 out of 24months to go)as they can no longer provide a phone and network that actually works.
Week in week out, the same petty excuses, 'we will replace the phone, upgrade you to a better plan, give you free credits' etc, etc (just like a cheating partner), couldn't take it any longer, I had to leave them.
Poor service in Mackay, calls drop out, you know all the usual stuff.
VODAFAIL WILL NOT IMPROVE THEIR SERVICE IN THE BIG CITIES, what hope do we all have in regional areas?? None. Time to go to another provider. Thanks

18095 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Been 4 days and phone still not active at 23 May 2011 09:17:54 AM
Hi, Im originally a 3 mobile customer who after a year of bad network coverage and roaming charges in Sydney CBD I decided to cancel my contract with 3. When I spoke to the customer care team they convinced me to switch to vodaphone where I will get a better service and better coverage. All I have to do is await a new sim card and call vodaphone to activate it. Few days later I received vodaphone sim and I called them after pressing to many buttons to get to a real person who advised me it will take 24 hours, next day phone doesnt work, called back and they say another few hours, still phone doesnt work. called again the 3rd day and was told 24 hours. How could this people lie to customers and arent this conversations recorded. Its been 4 days since then and my phone still has no service, my family and friends can not contact me and everytime I voice my anger with vodaphone customer service they suck me in with compensation like 1 month free service. Now im on 3 month free service as compensation but whats the point as I still can not use my phone and not even a customer of vodaphone as yet. I have tried to cancel my contract with them and they are not listening to me and kept trying to suck me in. Im really frustrated and angry right now and wonder if there is an ombudsman who can help me with it.
23 May 2011 10:03:31 AM: Yes there is an ombudsman that can help, details found at the top of the page on the How To Complain tab.

I joined up on the business plan of vodaphone last year( so I can claim some calls back on tax), I received a brand new sony xperia x 10 @ $80 per month plus Insurance and internet which came too $100 per month. July was when I signed up for it, I recieved a threatening letter late september demanding $200 that was overdue and any failure would result in a mark against my name on the crediting sytem. After informing the powers that be and paying them the said money owed,I then informed them that I will not pay a bill until I have received one in the mail and not before ( a small charge added for paper bill but worth it!). Then my phone started playing up, y'know, miss calls, line drop out, internet stalling, programs failing. This I could handle, putting it down too latest gadgets bugs. But then the ph would just turn itself off for no reason, sometimes Im on a call , sometimes on the internet, sometimes on its own accord. It got so frustrating that I took it in for a service around the 20th of december last year, where the shop kindly gave me a loan ph to use in the meantime ( a nokia slide ph worth only $150, with only a tenth of the gadgets that I had on the xperia and the screen size dropping down to a mere 1 inch) and I was grateful for the staff for the ph for calls! I received the phone about 14 days later( missed out some super new years eve shots), had the ph for about a week and same thing was happening, ph was turning itself off. (The staff at the shop were very understanding to my frustrations and assisted wherever possible, supplying a new battery thinking it was battery failure, sitting on the ph talking too Vodaphone I.T. etc etc) I took the ph back and I informed them that the same problem was happening in that the ph turned it self off, the staff just gave me that "Oh Yeah " Look, like I was making it up, but as the staff member was holding the ph it just turned itself off, it was funny to watch the expression suddenly change too " geeez, he's telling the truth" Look, lol, I had too laugh. Anyway, they sent the ph away again, and three weeks later I received the ph off them, all I did was go home and try too turn the thing on and this time it just wouldnt turn on, took it back and even the staff were flabbergasted, they tried changing batteries, plugging into the power but whatever they tried the ph would not turn on. they were on the ph straight away, explained what had happened to whoever it was on the ph and I got instructed that another new ph would be sent out in a week or 2 on their express urgent delivery,. Well I hate too see slow because I received the ph in 6-8 weeks later, but the ph wouldnt accept the sim card, the staff tried and tried again, but nothing. That ph was sent back and I rang them about 4 weeks after that to discuss my bill which was $200 overdue again, I explained to them that why should I pay a bill if I dont have the ph to use, I was prepared to pay some of the bill for the ph calls but I refused to pay the full amount until I received my sony xperia x 10 back which I had signed up for! I was then told that my bill was scrapped and that I could do a swap ph, so swap my xperia for another ph, the gentleman helped me to choose a ph and I chose the HTC Desire HD in replacement for the xperia ( The reason why I hadnt received the xperia is because they were out of stock and it never entered into anyone's mind to inform me of this). A week later I called vodaphone and asked where my new HTC ph was? I was then informed that the staff member I spoke too didnt have the authority to do the swap and I would have too wait for the xperia. Well folks, here's the situation, I have been using this loan ph since december 20th of last year, out of the $100 per month I have had 3 months swayed, I am still yet to hear from vodaphone or anyone in what is going on with the ph I signed up for?? So the good news is Im getting FREE ph calls, the bad news is no phone!

Latest offer is "4months free wifi". FAT lot of good it is, doesn't work, slow speeds. The most useful comment that the 1555 help desk has suggested "use the wifi between 2am and 6.30am, and you will have no issues". This is driving me nuts!

I use my phone to make a few calls, and I check the weather occasionally - most people's grandma's would use more data than me.... imagine my surprise when I got a $1400 excess data bill. As most of you seem to know, their data network is totally crap - I actually purchased a telstra dongle three months so I could read email. So I rang the 1555 BS line and got some clown who advised me my push data was sending me over the limit. I explained to him I was not a nutbag; there is no way I am going to use 2GB of data in ONE DAY over there absolutely crap data network.... he was not buying, so I lost it. I have put up with a crap data connection for 12 months (half way through the 24 months contract)... I am really time poor, so I put up with it, with some help from (my now great friends) Telstra. Today blew my mind - this guy treated me like an imbecile.... the offered a $100 discount (ie go away and let's forget about it all). I went and logged with TIO.... these idiots can GO AND GET STUFFED!
18089 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is How to get a refund/credit at 22 May 2011 08:26:45 PM
Voda have upgraded their voicemail and you now have to ring their voicemail to check your messages as most of us can't get ringing alert to work properly to phone us with our new voice messages. Everytime you call voicemail they charge you a flagfall plus call costs (at least $1 a time).
THis adds up to big $$$ that Voda is ripping us all off for on purpose.
Therefore call Billing Dept and get a refund. I did. They offered me 100% credit on my plan cost for 3 months...then on my next complaint call a few days later they credited my a/c with another $20.
If everyone demands a refund/credit they will have to get of their arses and fix their problems properly.

Vodafone have buggered up their new voicemail system so that ringing alert for many people does not work. That forces you to ring to check for messages, which of course costs you about 80c to $1.50 everytime you check depending on howe long you take. This cost isn't covered in the infinity plans so its a trap that we'll all be paying for on our monthly accounts.
I believe this is intentional to get more money from us to pay for their lost customers who have seen the light and left Vodafone. Beware. Ring their billing department and get a refund.

After tolerating atrocious coverage/reception with Vodafone for 2 years since I moved to my new home in a Brisbane southwestern suburb I now find their new voicemail system isn't working properly either. I spent nearly 3 hours on the phone to them on 4 separate calls last weekend and its not fixed...and another 4 hours on 4 or 5 calls this weekend.
Now I am told the coverage issue isn't going to be fixed in my area either....no work is planned.
So, sorry Vodafone....but chase me for my $$$. I'm off to the local Telstra and Optus stores on Monday to see who can give me the best deal. Vodafone can take a flying f#*k. I'm gone...and I suspect a large chuck of their new clients will be pulling out too when they realise what a mistake they've made by hooking up with Vodafone.

18084 Someone from QLD thinks vodafone is Coverage is awful at 22 May 2011 08:10:26 PM
I live in a built-up suburb 16.5kms from teh Brisbane CBD and can only get what Voda describe as "Outdoor coverage"....which means they don;t guarantee reception inside.
As I run a business I find this pretty unacceptable. This wasn't disclosed when we signed up on their plans of course.
They have offered credits on my account to appease me but what I'd really like them to do is bloody fix the problem...and they tell me there are no planned upgrades for my area at this time. Fan...bloody....tastic!! Tossers!
I cannot believe the arrogance of the top echelon at Voda Australia with an attitude like that. They have the money to upgrade their voicemail platform (which as far as I'm concerned was working perfectly and now is completely stuffed) while they ignore reception and coverage issues. I hope the board of directors sack the lot of them and get a management team who really know how to deliver service and quality.
Interestingly, sometimes I have 4 aerial bars (full reception) on my phone then it drops off to one or two (or none) within a couple of minutes even though I haven't moved. Its like the signal is wavering everywhere. My poor neighbour is seen discussing hois business with the world while he sits on his front fence in order to get reception....Yep, he;s with Voda too....Bloody unbelieveable!

Since the knuckleheads at Vidafone decided that they needed to alter their voicemail system my wife & I cannot get their voicemail ringing alert to work. This service is precisely why we changed to Vodafone some time ago as we are real estate agents and are constantly turning our phojhes off & onn when in meetings and we need the ring alert when we turn our phones back on to tell us our messages. We are on the infinite plan and dialling into Voda voicemail to check messages costs about $1 per time with flagfall and call costs. We probabpy check messages 7 or 8 times a day on average so imagine the monthly cost of that.
Despite over a week of investigation they haven't been able to fix the problem.
I am SOOOO over vodafone I am considering leaving and simply not paying their bills but I realsie that will only cause my credit rating to be impacted.
I just wish I could actually speak to someone in a senoir position in Australia instead of getting indian call centre people all the time (as nice and polite as they are I'm just not getting the problem resolved).

I have been a Vodafone customer for six years, given them countless customers from refering people and have spent a lot of money on Vodafone services. For the past six months I have recieved AWFUL coverage, days without the use of my phone and messages that never send. Every call cuts out AT LEAST twice. So, I email Vodafone asking if either a) they can fix the problem or b) compensate me for such terrible service. Vodafone's response was that I should change to another network provider as they were not going to fix the problem and wish not to compensate. For six years I have been paying them and THIS is the help I get. I get told to go away. It is infuriating that they can get away with it!

I used to be with the 3 network and my mobile phone reception was good enough to not have to use my landline. Since Vodaphone takeover I have 5% reception if i am lucky, my landline costs have increased and I continue to be billed for calls and mobile internet (which is free if used in a 3G reception area, but in my area it does not exist). Nearby areas are roamimng areas which I have to pay 55c/mb. Not Happy!!!
18074 Someone from Somewhere else thinks vodafone is More Irritation at 22 May 2011 10:01:07 AM
Another thing that really irritates me about dialing the Vodafone 0800 number is the initiation one must go through just to speak to an operator. If I only have a simple question and just want a simple answer that could be asked by anyone, why do I have to give so much information? It's just a question, it doesn't pose a national security risk, no-one will steal my details or any other information, I just want to know something simple!!!
Why can't Vodafail set up a simple help number with a real human being on the phone at the other end to answer such simple quesitons?????

18073 Someone from Somewhere else thinks vodafone is Irritatingly failed at 22 May 2011 09:55:51 AM
My complaint about Vodafail is about the number of security checks they have. I have had one instance when the woman was so concerned with knowing my passord, my mother's maiden name and a host of other security questions that she credited whatever amount it was to my cellphone and not to where I wanted it to go to, namely the Vodem. Of course this created untold hassle for me when I desperately needed to get onto the net from a remote location, couldn't because I didn't have enough credit on the Vodem, couldn't use my cellphone as there is next to no Vodafone coverage at Clark's Beach and so couldn't find out what had gone and where my credit had gone to. I ended up driving for an hour back into the city where I was able to use a landline to phone Vodafail, wait, wait, wait, piped music before someone answered, and finally, a clever man had a look, realised what the woman had done and the problem was solved but not until I'd spent $X on petrol to get back into the city. No apology was ever offered for my inconvenience.
18072 Someone from NSW thinks vodafone is Once again, failed at 22 May 2011 12:34:29 AM
I previously posted of my experiences since late November, when all went so horribly wrong. Prior to this I was enjoying mobile broadband of at least 1.5Mbps, which I was more than comfortable with. Anyway, I noticed problems starting before I left to go overseas for nearly two months. Got back, same annoyances. Roll on 3 months, still the same level of failure. I contacted the ombudsman, they contacted Vodafail who contacted me saying that I had been released from my 24 month contract as requested and that I could have my last month's regular charge of $39.99 gratis. In the last week, tired of waiting for the supposed upgrade of their network to materialise, I decided to end it all. With vodafail. Called em up and got through to the cancellations department. Had quite a bit of fun with the call centre bod who seemed to be willing to offer up her first born should I choose to stay on... $10 of your bill, no contract, free Mega modem, mo delivery charge...and so it went. I settled that it couldn't hurt for her to send me a new MEGA modem. Received the modem, was getting a lift home from outside Penrith in Sydney's west and... yes! i was getting 3Mbps. Couldn't believe my eyes. So how bloody disappointing was it to get back to my apartment in Chippendale in the CENTRE of Sydney to resume my post November 2010 service of a mighty...0.08Mbps. Yes, you read it right-one fiftieth of the signal strength I was expecting. Absolutely pathetic, Vodafail. Shame on you and all your empty promises.

I ditched voda 2 months ago through the ombudsman. Now I've been given a marketing assignment to write a pitch save voda. Ugh. Anyone got any genius ideas??? They seemed to have pulled out all the marketing stops which makes it hard to come up with an idea.
The only thing i've come up with so far is to have a chat service on this site where you can voice your issues one on one to a live service rep. Thoughts??
The only thing i've come up with so far is to have a chat service on this site where you can voice your issues one on one to a live service rep. Thoughts??
21 May 2011 10:48:28 PM: I should add that me and my whole family were loyal voda customers for ten years and never had any problems. My 3 months of terrible reception and 12 agonizing hours on the phone to customer service means il probably never go back. But now, looking at it from a marketing perspective its pretty brutal how in the period of a few months a brand image can be completely destroyed.
22 May 2011 12:50:35 AM: which uni you at??
You should google skype because they had problems too, but managed them totally differently to Vodafone - they apologised and issued free credit to everyone (I think, I read about it ages ago) but whatever they did they did a good job and people knew they were genuine about it and honest about owning up to their mistakes, which made people feel less unhappy :) Voda, by contrast, ...well you know what happened there.. crocadile tears from Nigel Dews and no real action, placing every possible barrier between a sane customer and the exit!
Here's what I'd recommened:
First and foremost, prevention is the best cure, so they should have known in advanced that their infrastructure was inadequate - in marketing courses they never shut up about how important marketing research is - and this is a perfect example of why! They should have ensured quality, because losing loyal customers (which are cash-cows for the company) are like losing gold bullion - last thing you want to do!
Assuming they made a massive oversight and allowed this to happen, they should:
i) conduct a company inquiry into it immediately to learn how severe the problem is. Act soon to nip the problem in the bud, do not wait 3 or more months before taking this step.
ii) make a press release stating the problem, it's cause and what people can do to get around it (where possible)
iii) give something back to all customers to win back faith, it could be something small but just the acknowledgement to say "my bad"
iv) knowing that some customers, esp the self-employed and business customers, need their phones to be reliable, they should give customers an easy way out with no contract termination fees - that's the very least they should do - most of the furor was because of a relatively small (by "small" I mean 40,000 or so, which is small in relation to their total customer base) number of customers who relied on their phone's reliability, and were let down.
v) do not under any circumstances get your call centre to lie to customers
vi) make sure your call centre staff are capable in terms of their product knowledge and representation - do not allow your image to be degraded by poor resourcing of customer service staff (the Tasmanian ones are just ok but the Mumbai makes auschwitz seem welcoming). Make sure there's no incentive for call centre staff to transfer calls endlessly, infuriating customers.
vii) Vodafone should liaise with regulators (namely the TIO) to advocate for them to undertake a massive and ongoing marketing campaign of their own to ensure full awareness, so dismayed customers know where to go if Vodafone or any other telco aren't handling their enquiry properly. Why should Vodafone do this? because it would actually benefit them by incentivising them to improve their service - at present they have no reason to improve because the 1/100 customers that actually go to the TIO has so small an effect (usually less than $100) that it's not worth Vodafone worrying about it too much.
viii) give customers accurate timeframes as to when services will be functioning, and send that to them (don't make them have to go out of their way to find it).
That's my 2c. Actually, it's a lot better then anyone at Vodafone could come up :)

21 May 2011 03:39:09 PM: Your mother needs to go to the TIO as soon as possible with the disputed amount and evidence, simple procedure, can take less than 10 minutes to complete their on line form..
The TIO apparently 'suspends' the disputed amount whilst an investigation is being performed.
Also it is worth mentioning that your mother is being harassed by an apparent Vodafail employee.
The TIO will ensure that a Vodafail representative, I believe from the Vodafail resolutions team, will contact your mother in 10 working days and try to negotiate a mutually agreed solution.
I suggest that you discuss the best result and fall back positions with your mother prior to the call.
The TIO details may be found under the How To Complain tab at the top of the page.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

So got the txt msg yesterday from Vodafail to say Voicemail had been upgraded reboot phone as visual voicemail may not be working until you do this. Turns out Visual Voicemail has not been working since at least monday, and surprise surprise its still not working
18064 Someone from WA thinks vodafone is only good use: This is the phone you give your toddler to play with, doesnt matter if they make a call it WONT work!!! at 21 May 2011 12:13:11 AM
Call after call made to Vodafone for help as the website said i have coverage yet i was getting none, time after time it was something wrong on my end: the SIM card is too old, so i replace it, the phone must be faulty so i buy a new one, doesn't work, so they tell me it must still be the phone, i inform them it is a BRAND NEW Vodafone phone (which then proceeded to freeze and not work sent it away to get fixed comes back worse), i assure them it has VODAFONE written on the damn thing, They then tell me it needs turning off and then turning back on, so i do this repeatedly - nothing. SMS's not going through or when they did it was in the dead of night, I get informed that there has always been service for my location and i need to recheck the internet and make sure i know where i am located(my locations spanded 2 towns i might add, from my house to my work NILL coverage at all, and yeah i think i know where i am located)
This went on for 3 years, the last straw during a call while expressing my frustration with the person assuring me the problem is on my end not theirs they hung up on me! In the end the decision to change phone providers was an easy one when A) i couldnt call emergency services when there was a fire in the middle of summer, location of the fire: next to a gas pipe line and B) When a car slammed head on doing 100km an hour into a Truck, luckily there were others there with RELIABLE providers. As much as i hate hate hate Telstra at least i know that i can make calls that could save a life. Do yourself a favor DO NOT GO WITH VODAFONE NO MATTER HOW GOOD THEY MAKE IT SOUND, YOU WILL BE SORRY.

Bought a Vodafail mobile broadband stick from Woolies after checking online that I'd get coverage at my house. Not a single bar of coverage. Went into Vodafail and apparently (according to them) the three houses in a row where my house is don't get any coverage, but the rest of my street does which is why their website says I'm covered. Huh???? Then had to try to return useless stick to Woolies and listen to how wonderful and gracious they were that they were so kind as to refund my money even though they didn't have to. I think they expected me to be grateful.

I made the big mistake of signing up on a 24 month plan with a new iPhone 4 last week at the Miranda NSW store, 2 hours later as I was driving our of Sydney for a week away the front facing camera stopped working. Wednesday night i called India on 1555 they told me I could take the phone into the store and they would swap it, I went there on Thursday morning they were closed, I couldnt call the store direct as the phone was not being answered. I went into the store again today and they refused to swap my phone, i called my new friend in India again 1555. Steve (the indian) told me to take the phone to Parramatta and they would swap it, I arrive at Parramatta, no they wont swap it. I again call my BFF in India, this time I get a female, she tells me to take it to Blacktown, I go to Blacktown they wont do it either. So at this point in time Ive travelled from one side of Sydney to the other and the only thing Ive achieved is high blood pressure, low battery on the new one camera iPhone 4, wasted 4 hours of my life that I will never get back, and used half a tank of fuel and $5 for Parking. I leave Blacktown and receive a call from India, telling me to go back to Blacktown as they will speak with them again and have the phone replaced, nope they wont do it again. So now I call the Chatswood office, after 10 minutes I get the receptionist who takes my details and will get someone to call me back, 4pm today an Aussie from Tasmania calls me, still wont swap my phone. SCREW YOU VODAFONE YOU SHIT ME TO TEARS.
No I have to make a Genius Bar appointment in the Sydney Apple store, I know they will sort this out.
Lesson learnt today, only buy directly from Apple and Screw Vodafone.

20 May 2011 10:49:49 PM: I thought that all phones were on a 30 day return if they are Dead on Arrival (DOA), as your phone is not fit for purpose surely it fits into the DOA criteria?
Also mysterious that your BFF and others at Vodafail have advised you to return to (several) stores for a replacement yet the stores refuse, perhaps an illustration of great Vodafail teamwork, team dynamics and team organisation.
Suggest off to the TIO for you, details found at the top of the page on the How To Complain tab.
Suggest you do it sooner and not later.

22 May 2011 09:49:02 PM: There's a 28 day swap period, however with all iPhones they must first go back to Apple to be assessed. The swap is then generally authorised within 2-3 days.

I have had the same trouble with Telstra. I have recently move house, and wanted to sign up with Telstra. Fine they said. We will have your phone connected right away, and you will recieve your Modem Five days after.
During the next FIVE WEEKS, I waited for the Modem, they kept sending it the wrong address, then putting in another order. I kept telling them my right address, but still, they kept sending it to the wrong address. Now I am must add, that I am BRITISH and have always spoken the Queen's English, if the people that work at Telstra do not understand English, they should NOT be working there. Finally I got in touch with Robert Maclland's Office, and they sorted it out, getting my Internet up and running after Five weeks of waiting, but Telstra sent the Registration Papers AGAIN to the wrong address. Now I am wondering that when my Bill is due, will they send the RIGHT address?
